What to do during a hotel weekend in London?
From the London Eye to Tower Bridge via the Palace of Westminster
The finest architectural gems of London line the banks of the Thames. Board the panoramic capsules of the London Eye to admire the city from above, before following the river to the majestic Palace of Westminster. Its neo-Gothic silhouette and iconic clock tower Big Ben are majestically reflected in the waters of the river.
The walk naturally leads you to Tower Bridge, whose glass walkways offer a dizzying experience 40 metres above the Thames. River cruises let you admire this heritage from another angle, passing under the arches of the Millennium Bridge to the foot of St Paul's Cathedral. The view of Tate Modern and the Globe Theatre completes this journey to the heart of historic and cultural London.
Stroll through London's iconic districts
Let yourself be seduced by the unique atmosphere of Camden Town, where the colourful façades of vintage shops sit alongside the lively stalls of the covered market. This alternative district immerses you in a rock and creative atmosphere, between street-food stands from around the world and local craft shops.
The walk continues through the picturesque streets of Notting Hill, famous for its pastel-coloured Victorian houses and the antique dealers of Portobello Road. On Saturdays, the antiques market turns the district into a true open-air museum.
Over in Shoreditch, street art covers the walls with spectacular murals, while trendy cafés and contemporary art galleries bear witness to the creative revival of the East End. A walk through these districts reveals the authentic London.
Indulge in a traditional English brunch
London mornings take on a special flavour over a hearty brunch, a true British institution. From poached eggs to sautéed mushrooms, crispy bacon and baked beans, every bite tells a story of centuries-old culinary traditions.
Which means of transport are best for getting to London?
Take the Eurostar to King's Cross station
The Eurostar links Paris to London in just 2 hrs 17, dropping you in the heart of the British capital at the majestic St Pancras International station. This direct rail link departs from Gare du Nord.
The arrival station, St Pancras, next to King's Cross, is a true London transport hub. Passport and security checks take place before departure, allowing you to leave the station quickly on arrival. The Victoria, Northern and Piccadilly Underground lines as well as numerous buses serve this district in full renaissance.
Travellers can take two pieces of luggage and one accessory with no restrictions on liquids, making the journey more practical than flying. For a stress-free trip, plan to arrive at the station 45 minutes before departure, as the gates close 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
Travel by ferry
Sea crossings to London offer a unique travel experience, combining comfort and discovery. Ferries offer regular crossings from French ports, with modern ships equipped with restaurants, shops and relaxation areas.
This option is particularly advantageous for family trips or when travelling with your vehicle. The vast outer decks let you admire the White Cliffs of Dover, the first legendary image of your British stay.
Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports
The three main London airports offer regular connections with the British capital. Heathrow, the closest to the centre, connects to Paddington in 15 minutes via the Heathrow Express or in 50 minutes on the Underground's Piccadilly Line.
From Gatwick, the Gatwick Express reaches Victoria Station in 30 minutes. The terminal is also served by Southern and Thameslink services to several London districts.
Further north, Stansted offers the Stansted Express to Liverpool Street, a service running every 15 minutes. Coach companies such as Terravision provide transfers to King's Cross and Victoria, with frequent departures and attractive fares for travellers.
