Best Western Plus Hacienda Hotel Old Town

Always love staying here. The location is great and you are easily able walk to Old Town. It is also not far from many of San Diego's theme attractions like the Midway and the Zoo. The hotel is always clean and comfortable with a helpful staff!!

The employees were extremely nice and helpfull. The property is in a perfect location for all that Old Town has to offer, and close to the freeway to make it extremely easy to get around San Diego. Plus the hotel has the potential to be a gorgeous property, already has the panoramic views, but the overall condition of the buildings are very tired and in need of maintenance and repairs. There was a couple stand out employees that really tried to help us and made the trip still fun, Ricky the driver was very nice and helpful, along with the front desk employees were all great.

We've just returned from a couple of days stay at the Hacienda hotel in San Diego which we enjoyed. The hotel itself is quite large and spread across a number of buildings all within the same complex, and is very well situated for visiting the Old Town area which is lively in the evenings with restaurants and live music. The hotel itself is nice, albeit slightly tired in a few areas decor-wise, but the staff were pleasant and we had no issues with the cleanliness of the hotel. The only issue I would say was that the air conditioning unit in our room had seen better days and was pretty noisy, meaning you could choose between having difficulty sleeping due to temperature or because of noise, and it was a case of the lesser of two evils! The wifi also wasn't great, consistently dropping in our room so if you're going to rely on that then you might need to move around the hotel to get a good signal. That said though overall we had a pleasant experience there and would have no issue recommending to others looking for a base to explore the city from.

The lady at the front desk (Barbara) was very, very friendly and efficient. The hotel is located a very short walk from the main street with restaurants and shops and a short walk to the Old Town area. You can't beat the location. From the outside the hotel looks beautiful, especially with the mosaic stairs. Unfortunately, our room was a bit run down. Our room was a good size with two queen size beds, a sofa and a table and chairs. The bathroom was also a good size with plenty of counter space with a sink inside the bathroom and another smaller sink outside the bathroom, which would be quite convenient for a family. The beds were also comfortable. But, unfortunately, the room was run down. For example, the bathroom door was on a roller and to open/shut it you had to lift and pull – as it was constantly stuck. The door was scraped up which looked bad. The closet door was off the hinges and couldn't really be moved at all. The AC cover in the bathroom was hanging partially open and looked like it had never been cleaned. The grout around the tub was sloppily applied. There was no trash can in the bathroom. The carpet looked worn enough that we didn't feel comfortable taking off our shoes in the room. Sadly, this room was one of the most run down I've stayed in, in a long time. But I will still give it a decent rating because of the positives. Honestly, given the location, I'd probably stay here again – but would hope a different room wouldn't have the problems this room had.

The lobby was nice. Our room was also updated and clean, BUT the walls were paper- thin and we could hear everything from next door. Toilet paper the thinnest we've experienced in travels. 😖. Breakfast average, but it's a very small space to eat in. Great location - easy walking distance to old town Temecula and easy access to wine country.

The hotel and rooms are tired and in need of a refresh BUT the location is perfect! Parking is an issue... I stayed with my 80-year-old mother, and we had to park down a hill and walk up to our room with our luggage because they do not offer bell service and the parking at our building was full. The front desk staff was very nice, and the overall feel of the place is good! I would stay here again! but do not expect great parking options!

I actually stayed at this property in February of 2017 for a Valentine's getaway. The visit was pleasant although navigating the different buildings and levels in conjunction with the parking garage could be a little challenging at times. Now 7 years later, I am disabled which presents more challenges. Because of that fact, I had questions about the property and accessibility before booking for the Labor Day weekend and phoned ahead of time. I identified myself as a prior guest who is now disabled but also a diamond level Best Western rewards member who had a few questions. The person I spoke to was brusque and jumped to conclusions before I finished asking my questions. Overall I got a sense of feeling like I was not welcome at the property and was more viewed as a liability than a welcome guest. This saddens me, because now I'm traveling with a fiance' and I thought for our few days in San Diego it would be fun to stay at Old Town and experience the ambiance of the park especially the local cantina where there is live music. Now instead we will stay at a different Best Western and drive over to the park to the state parking lot and go over the grounds on our mobility scooters but then return to a different hotel. I don't feel that the person I spoke to understands the value of repeat business guests; maybe because the property is adjacent to the state park and patronage during a busy national holiday weekend is almost guaranteed.

Solid 3 star hotel. Well kept and maintained but could use some fresh exterior paint and the potted plants could use consistent watering..the bed was comfortable and the sheets were crisp and clean. Breakfast buffet was hot, plentiful and very satisfying. Good location near old town and close to freeway exits and entrance. Very professional and attentive staff.

Hotel complex common area is pleasant with water a fountain and outdoor sitting tables with ok view Rooms and furniture inside are dated, unadorned and dreary …for 300 dollars a night I expect the rooms to be in a much better condition. ….Hotel is close to local bars and restaurants. You will encounter cheesy tourist trap market and Tex-Mex restaurants in the neighborhood. ….Rooms are reasonably clean

We've visit Best Western Plus Hacienda Hotel Old Town in San Diego many, many times. This place has declined so much, and we'll never use this hotel again. The staff believe that any room on the "plaza" is a great room. Nope. As soon as we opened the door, the smell of cleaning solution was overwhelming. The folding door of the closet was blocked by the nightstand, and the front desk and staff didn't fix that problem. "I'm off, now" Some electric features work, others don't. Open the shower slightly and it hits the crooked toilet. Years ago, the hotel was nice. Old Town is great with nice restaurants nearby. It's a shame they've let this place decline so badly.

Very poor service at check in. The hotel itself is beautiful, with a beautiful view and great location.

Room was extremely out dated. The outlets in the bathroom did not work. Hotel guest were blasting music late at night and front desk refused to notify security. Check in process was also an issue, we had to wait all day to check in, when we're finally able to they gave me and my family a room that did not have direct access from the elevator and we had to go up two flights of stairs with our luggage.

I had a very pleasant stay, and the staff was very accommodating. The staff even left a note on my door in case I needed housekeeping at a later time, that was a very nice gesture.

This hotel was absolutely amazing! The room was extremely cozy and peaceful. The grounds were delightful and well maintained. Amazing views from the 500 and 600 buildings. The swimming pool was clean and maintained well. The complimentary coffee in the lobby was a huge bonus! Walking distance to many restaurants and other activities. Perfect location to most Central areas of San Diego that are great to visit!

This hotel could be nice with some money and TLC sunk into it. Falling into disrepair, dirty, unkempt. The employees don't seem to care about making it a CLEAN, enjoyable stay for customers. Everywhere you walk around the property, it's just dirty, and nobody does anything about the dirt, leaves, garbage, cobwebs, etc... Pool was very cloudy and hot tube was also, and then was shut down the last half of my stay, wouldn't have used either anyway by how cloudy and gross the water looked. The location, being right in Old Town, was it's only saving grace, being able to walk right into Old Town to explore and find food/drink.

Great place to stay, in the heart of Old Town. It has a unique character, not just a big box hotel. Ask for as many discounts as you can. There are less costly places to stay but they are a little further out. We pay a reasonable rate and close to everything, including the transit center and the light rail and busses. Can't get any better than that. Plus there is an Old Town Trolley that will take you around the city all day, with on and off privileges at an excellent price. There's a liquor store that has so dam many tequilas, it will make your head spin. All the restaurants are pretty good, drink and stumble home....the way I like it! LOL

I have stayed at this hotel on business off and on for over thirty years and this will probably be my last. The wifi situation is a joke. I had a wifi router in my room and still could not connect to the internet the entire two week stay. Lobby staff always just said "Our provider is looking in to it and your welcome to bring your computer to the lobby and use our wifi". The last thing I want to do after work is come to the lobby to read and send business emails. This has been an ongoing problem at Hacienda since getting rid of the CAT-5 plug in cables and going to wifi. There is no reason in this day and age why they can't provide decent wifi in all the guest rooms. Most vacationers probably just use their phones for their one or two night visits, but there are also many business travelers that rely on good wifi. Also the rooms are way past due for upgrade (new carpet, bathroom fixtures, furniture, etc).

Not up to the service I've come to expect from other Best Western locations.The problems caused to us by the lack of Internet connection was a serious matter to us and a major disappointment.

My husband and I stayed at this location this weekend. I personally loved the hotel and its location. We encountered an issue with the room but as soon as we told the front desk, the rep moved us into a new room. He was very helpful and we felt taken care of. This is why I love Best Western. I will be coming back.

The only good thing about this run-down hotel was the location to Old Town. Moldy grout in the bathtub, sliding closet doors inoperable & falling out of their grooves = no closet, peeling paint in the bathroom, bathroom faucet didn't fit sink & there was a hole. Maintenance is apparently non-existent. Thank God we only booked 1 night.

I thought it couldn't be THAT bad since I've been going to this place on and off for years. I was so wrong. The entire building is not being kept up well. The inside of the rooms is disgusting. Dirty, stinky, broken items. Never again.

Started off as not too great. We were told to call for shuttle from airport when we got to baggage claim. Called and said someone would be there in 15 minutes. Walked out to where we had to meet driver and had a missed call from the hotel the driver was at lunch so it would be 30 plus minutes. We took a taxi.once at hotel we checked in but room was not ready. It was OK because it was early so we left our bags and went to lunch.found out the restaurant was closed for maintenance. Again OK as there are several places near by to eat.went to our room and keys didn't work so had to go back to the lobby where the girl at desk scanned our keys again and then came up with me to try it.beds were comfortable and room was clean, fresh towels daily. Our only issue was the sliding door to the bathroom was hard to open and close. Otherwise we had a great stay and are planning on coming back with friends next year

Wanted a mini vacation for a couple of days. Great location. Walking distance to everything in old town San Diego. Love this hotel and the hacienda style. Great views.

Loved this hotel and view and that it also had a balcony and the breakfast to go was different but good 😊

I was happily surprised how nice this place was. The price was fair for the room. The only improvements I would suggest are maybe have help with guest bringing their luggage to the rooms as there is a lot of stair which can be hard for older guests and that the restaurant opened the outside areas for breakfast and offer more on the menu at a more reasonable price. $30ish for every dish was a bit much when you can walk across the street and get twice as much with better quality at many different restaurants. But with this said, I would absolutely stay there again and recommend it to friends.

Perfect location proximity to Old Town and public transit center. Staff are friendly. Rooms are rustic but clean. Could they use an update? Sure. But our bed was comfortable. We had plenty of towels and toiletries. We had an issue with our first room. The front desk moved us to a new room on the 2nd floor of the same section. Where our room was located was a more quiet section. We really didn't hear any of our neighbors. If budget allows, we would certainly stay here again. We did not use/see the pool area. We did not eat at the on site restaurant.

The dead bolt was missing from our door, luckily we had the chain on the door set. Another guest tried to open the door and luckily the chain held. My wife was nervous after that incident.

The staff was really awesome but I was surprised how dated and old the rooms were. It's a bummer because the location was great. Really wish they would do some updating on the inside because we loved the location.

We love love the Best Western Hacienda Old Town. It is very clean and the staff is wonderful and very helpful. They made our stay comfortable and welcoming. will definitely stay again in the future

For the price of this room a night I expected better quality. The beds are ok, the internet is terrible (wouldn't recommend if you're on a business trip - had to use internet elsewhere), the staff is nice. All rooms are only queen beds. Wouldn't stay here again. Would ask for a refund if I could. Not worth the money.

Dissatisfied!!!! The property was oversold on Memorial weekend. Our reservation was for Thursday, 5/23 - Monday, 5/27 at the Plaza level with two queen beds. However, we didn't get the plaza level. We checked in late Thursday night and Jovian said they are over sold of the plaza room. And to check back in the morning because they 3 plaza rooms available. The next day, we had to argue with the front desk (Jainie) who was determined to not moved us. Even after telling her that we need the plaza level room for husband who had both knee replacement surgery and has issues with stairs. She said the plaza rooms are for guests who are checking in today and are paying a higher rates. However, our rates were higher too that weekend. She even went on to say that Jovian was new and didn't know how the room inventory works. It wasn't until the Manager- Lainie come to speak to us that this issue was resolved. The trip that was supposed to be relaxing turned into a stressful one. We will likely not be staying at this hotel again.

The hotel is at good location next to old town. We upgraded to city view room and its on the top floor of building 6 which is the highest point of the property that can see SD. And the good thing ended there. Internet can connect but is slow in responding of about 10s for every single click to the internet. It is not useable so I have not used it after all. There is only 15 cramped parking spots in building 6 and I have not seen any spot available during the entire stay. I have to park at the hotel restaurant parking which are about 300ft deep downhill from the room. So I have to walk up and down hill every time to the car with the kids and luggages. The room is old, dark and updated like in 80s. The carpet is dirty. The restroom door cannot be locked and there are multiple cracks on floor tiles. The restroom has patching and caulking here and there so the overall condition is below average and we did not complain. It is what it is of the room since the hotel is old style motel building. After the stay, hotel told us there are damaged tiles and they charged my credit card for it. I explained that the cracked tiles were already there once we arrived. We did not make any damage to the tile. It's existing. Unfortunatley we did not take any pictures prior to arrival and we did not think about it as the restroom is not in prime condition for many things so we did not report during the stay. Now we need to pay for a damage that we did not make. The hotel cannot prove we have made the damage and did not provide further information other than notifying us they will charged us for the "Damaged tiles". There is no justification and hotel will not discuss further. A vacation stay turned into an unpleasant and tramatic experience with the falsely accuasations of damage that we did not do. Think triple before you book and if you still insist to stay here, take pictures of everything upon arrival and report all broken amenities or it will become you paying for this old facilities.

Broken toilet with flooded bathroom. Next room had boogers on the wall and old food fell out of the pull out sofa.

Well-located and pretty property, but it's run down and old. I paid almost $300 for one night, but the internet was slower than just using cell service, there was not enough parking for us even though they charged me for parking, and the phone in the room didn't work because there was actually no wall jack for it. The worst part, though, was that the staff checked us into a room that was still occupied. We walked in to see other people's luggage and belongings. Then later that evening while we were out, the staff checked someone else into our room and deactivated our keys. Everyone is lucky not to have had their luggage stolen after that fiasco.

The room is shabby. The bathroom shower was plugged up. There was old soap in the tub. Too expensive for an old hotel. The elevator did t work.

Excellent location as you are staying in Old Town within a few minutes can walk to many restaurants - and the large Resturant on the property had good food at good prices too. You also have close freeway access to get to downtown in minutes and you are close to all things to do and see in San Diego. Our room was large with lots of plugs for your cell phones, laptops/pads etc., clean and comfortable and lots of mirrors too. This is a large pretty multi level hotel on a hillside ( with several elevators ). We stayed on the backside of hotel building 8 and found it to be very quiet. I suspect the rooms that face Old Town mat be a bit noisy, especially during the weekend. Looking forward to returning here in the near future.

This location offers walking distance to dining, shopping, trolley tours, museums, local golf course & trolley station. The property is picturesque & very well maintained. You'll have multiple patios to access and enjoy plus pool & jacuzzi. Parking can get tight & scarce later in the evening. I've never eaten at the restaurant only when it was an Acapulco long time ago.

We try to stay at the Best Western Hacienda in Old Town whenever we visit San Diego. It's in a great location, nice rooms. This time however, it fell far short of expectations. WiFi (an absolute necessity & one of the #1 items we look for in a hotel) was out - the entire time. No discount offered, only excuses & apologies. The heating & cooling system is new - and overly complex. There are no written instructions. I got it to cool the room once, but could not get it to do so again.

My husband and I have stayed here every year for over ten years. We love this hotel. It is beautiful, has a great restaurant, and is conveniently located to most attractions, including public transportation. I highly recommend this property.

It was nice being able to park and walk to visit Old Town and we were a short drive to the zoo and Midway Museum. The hotel is spread across a steep hillside and can be confusing to navigate. Staff weren't especially helpful. Our room was large and clean and had a nice view. Downsides were a drippy faucet and noisy air conditioner.

worst best western I've ever been to/ bed linens, towels damp bathroom pocket door broken so no privacy front desk acted surprised no way they weren't aware of it building had no elevator put us (3 women in 70s) on 5th floor no one at check in advised us of this situation......

We moved to this hotel after having a really awful one the night before. It's a quaint/vintage hotel

Elevator broke 10 times during stay. Had to haul luggage down 3 flights of stairs on check out. Returned 1st day at 2:15pm and the room wasn't serviced. Hotel staff tried to tell me it was because the Do Not Distrub sign was on the door. I told them we took it off when we left at 9:15am.

Stayed here with my family from April 26th-28th, 2024 and ran into issues with the elevator in building #600. As soon as we parked, we were greeting by multiple guests who made us aware that the elevators had been down all week. We'd press the button and wait but the elevator would never come. Our rooms were on the top floor too so we had carry our luggage up while people were trying to come down. It was just a hassle. We saw what looked like a repair man the first night we were there but never saw anyone after that. I've stayed here multiple times and never had any issues like this so I guess I'll just say it was a bad weekend. Just a tip, stay away from building 600.

My family of stayed at the Old Town Hacienda for 2 nights on a weekend after visiting Legoland. We were 5 adults and 3 kids who stayed on the plaza level in 2 rooms. The rooms were big and clean. The showers are hot and they give you small complimentary shampoo and conditioner. If you have a big family take your own shampoo conditioner and body wash. This is great for kids who love the pool. The quiet hours are 10pm to 7am and was happy with our stay. We were able to visit Old Town plaza and enjoyed the proximity of stores and restaurants. We mainly relaxed at the hotel and enjoyed our time.

I'd love to rate this hotel higher, but this place has slowly gone downhill. Having stayed here several times over the past 20 years we've seen the changes. Room fixtures needing repairs, check in staff that has no record of any room preference requests, and a general lack of upkeep on the hotel grounds. We really like this hotel but the past few visits we have been fairly disappointing.

I emailed this establishment 7 times over two weeks and did not get one reply. Since my stay I have filled out their “how was your stay” survey and I have still not had a response to my complaint about the lack of response to my emails and the off hand response to lack of response to my emails to the check in clerk. When I booked several months ago I requested interconnecting or adjacent rooms as I was travelling with my 18 year old niece who had never been to the US. On checking in, we were told that the last interconnecting rooms had just been sold, but we could have adjacent rooms which involved transferring via three elevators or a short walk up a slight slope! We opted for the walk! I have bad knee and I've seen coped with slighter slopes in San Francisco! So back down the hill we went and were given rooms “close” to each other. My room wasn't ready, but was assured by the check in guy that the would be the cleaning would be expedited! Two hours later I was told my room was ready! Our rooms were on the same level, but were several minutes apart. I asked (one of the many questions I'd asked in my next numerous answered emails) about a guest laundry. His answer was “yes we have that”. Not information about where it was. Back down to reception a few days later. Unfortunately got the same guy! Gave us a map showing where the laundry was. Said to go up the lift and it was just a short flight of stairs. He had no idea how much a load of washing and drying cost. He thought about $3.50. It cost almost twice as much and the short flight of stairs was not short! Location was great. Service in the restaurant was slow, but the food was great. Bar food was not great. The chicken wings were so hot we couldn't eat them even after taking them to our rooms and rinsing them off. Ought

The Best Western was a bit pf a "mixed bag." Overall, lovely property and I adored how there were plants all around the property. Was not a fan of the room lighting, as I am a reader and puzzle addict. The bedside lamp was fairly worthless for my purposes. The room was clean, despite all the stuff I require to allow me to travel. Only needed some cleaning once in the 6 days I was there. Remote went "off" and it was corrected quickly. Replacement was kind of wonky near the end of my stay, but I made due.Great area to stay in, as there were nice shops and interesting places nearby. My last morning I was waiting for someone to come and collect my two very stuffed bags to be taken to the airport with me, At almost 68 years, it would have taken me forever to get my things down to the lobby. Never would I have expected to do this as a "self-service." Maybe travel has changed. I know that hotels and other service industries have a lot of trouble filling service positions.

This hotel is in a good location close to attractions in old town…and not too far from the airport .reasonably clean with functional gym and pleasant fountains and landscaping. The room furniture is dated and worn down Bed was comfortable and staff were helpful

Location is GREAT! Just upper from Old Town main drag- restaurants, shops, historic district, and trolley (metro) station. Settings are lush with beautiful plants and trees! It's built as a “Spanish garden”. Bedroom spacious and comfortable with entrances facing gardens. Beautiful views from the staircases and varandas. It's an older construction and it “shows” at some areas. Shower/bath tube had a clogged drain. Told two different employees but it wasn't solved during our stay. First day there I got super confused with the layout, floors, numbers sequences. It got more clear as the days went. Breakfast is not included and it doesn't worth to it there. Go down the street and you'll find several restaurants for it. Really recommend the HACIENDA though.

Great location short walk to the old town transit center. Lots of good restaurants mostly Mexican. Easy access to the state park. Also has nice barbeques available for guests to use which we did a couple of times.

I have stayed here several times and it is always fantastic! The rooms are always really nice and have that early California feel, that i love, as does the whole property! The service is really good, and everything is conveniently located, even though the property is spread out.

Local Restaurants close early. We loved the location but by 9:30 PM most places nearby were closed We did not experience the restaurant on the premises but next time we will Maybe summer might be different

Check in staff was very helpful and caring. The rooms were well appointed, very clean with beautiful views. Housekeeping was very helpful. If you enjoy Old Town San Diego you couldn't ask for a better location.

Staff was very helpful and friendly. I left my purse by accident and clean crew called me to go back and get it. Nobody does that anymore. Place was clean and very cute. Spacious rooms with beautiful view.

The property was great.The location was great. The bathroom toliet not so. Was looked at twice but still did not work right. Michell was not very cust. friendly. Daniel was great in making res. Dillon was very accommodating. I will come and give you another try in the future.

Very noisy! Not just planes but service carts on cement walkways, other guests, car alarms, traffic … unexpectedly loud. Food at Tequilla was terrible. Wings so over fried as to be literally inedible. Steak over done, only covered half the bun. Cheap pours in bar. I tend bar and I know a fair pour. These were cheap. Overpriced. Nice staff, pool good, clean room.

The grounds and location of this hotel are great. Our room was spacious, but had a bit of a musty smell. Furnishings are old and worn. Bed comfortable. Lots of hot water. Our room was only cleaned once during our 4 night stay, and that was only because we called the front desk on the 2nd morning to ask that it be cleaned. Front desk argued with me saying that housekeeping wasn't cleaning our room because the Do Not Disturb sign was on the door (it wasn't). Remote had dead batteries, TV reception would intermittently lose its signal, internet was hit and miss. Shuttle from airport is $8 PER PERSON. Parking in the hotel's garage is $20 per night--$15 if you are a Best Western member (I was). No complimentary breakfast at this hotel, but restaurant upstairs has a $15 breakfast buffet. There is coffee and tea in the lobby and a small coffee pot in the guest rooms.

This hotel is always clean and reliable. It seems a little old, but the room is very clean, and everything is in good working order. Everything in Old Town is a short walk (under 5 min). We love to come up here for a few days just to unwind.

Hotel is in a great location near restaurants and shops. Our first room in the 600 building definitely needs a remodel, old carpet and dated bath. Our second room in 800 building was nice and updated.

The wife and I checked in to the Old Town Hacienda this past weekend with our three year old granddaughter for a two night stay in an “oversized room” with two queen beds. At check in, 4:30pm, I was given a regular room in the 800 building, which I explained that I have been coming here for more then 25 years and I know that the 800 building rooms are just small regular rooms. The staff member advised me that those rooms were all they had left and the only other option are rooms at the very top, which are also mainly cheap rooms and where everyone's vehicles get broken into. After sending us to three separate rooms, one of which had a couple already in the room which my wife and three year old walked in on, we finally just settled for a small regular room in the 500 building where you are forced to walk your luggage up several flights of steps. No bill adjustment or anything honored. Just the explanation that when the hotel is booked to capacity, it's first come first served and you get what you get. Not good business, especially when check in is 4pm and I got there at 4:30 pm. Bad business for this hotel, staff there don't care about the business.

I was a little concerned bc of some of the reviews; but the intrigue of the place itself plus location made me decide to take the risk. And I'm soooo glad I did! Such a cute place with a unique look and the hotel room was very comfortable. We heard no noises people here complained about (except my son complained about my snoring) and slept very well. There are a TON of stairs, so if you have issues with mobility, make sure you tell them and ask for a room you can reach by elevator. I saw one older gentleman have an extreme difficulty and I Cdnt understand why his family didn't ask for a room with less stairs. The location is amazing-right in Old Town and five minutes from the state park part. Really enjoyed our stay.

Between the air conditioner being so close to the bed and the toilet squealing all night we did not sleep well. The air conditioner did not cool the sitting area because it was in the sleeping area. You can hear your neighbors talking thru the walls. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. Great location for Old Towne San Diego. One block away from restaurants and gift shops. Parking garage was secure but dark, poor lighting.

Being tied to Government travel rates, unfortunately this was the only hotel I could get near Old Town. The hotel is even more tired than when I swore I'd never stay again in 2004. I was given a room in the dreaded 500 block (they obviously hate me) and I lugged a heavy laptop case and even heavier suitcase (and a bag of room groceries) up endless stairs, just to find out that the room keys wouldn't work. Talk about anger! Long story short, drenched in sweat, I finally got into the room. It's very dated, needs a complete refurbishment and the sheets are too small for the beds. Paper thin walls, you'll hear even your neighbors sighing at their ugly rooms. NO.... Internet. There is a WiFi called Hacienda Guest, but it disconnects immediately. I've complained every day, but the front desk acts surprised and say they'll send an engineer. If like me, you are an international traveler, you are doomed unless you obtain a US SIM. I couldn't call my family or do my corporate timecard. Yesterday, they said their lead engineer would come and take a look. Surprise! No one came to our room. Five days later-- I check the binder for the room and see that if you turn in dry cleaning by 08:30, you'll get it back the next day. Strange, there were no dry cleaning bags or forms in the room. I brought my clothes to the front desk and asked to turn in dry cleaning. "I'm sorry," the lady said. "We no longer do that." So far at least, this hotel has stopped surprising me. So there you have it. I can't blame it on a post-COVID malaise, it's just the hotel's determined mission to lose any customer they can get their hands on. I for one will stay further away, rather than staying here ever again.

We have stayed in this hotel in the past. The location is perfect for easy access to food, drinks and local site seeing. But parking is bad. The parking garage for building 6 was being used to store renovation materials and we ended up parking in the street. We notified the front desk, but were charged for onsite parking anyway.

I do not recommend this hotel but it does have an excellent location in the heart of Old Town. This Best Western, once a shopping mall built in layers up the hillside, was converted into a hotel in the 70s and probably never refurbished since inception. Beds were bearable but the rooms (I stayed in several) were not clean and the furniture was very shabby. There is such potential in this property but, I'm afraid, it's just a money-haul for the owner. Never was able to eat at the property because I could never secure a table; it seemed to have plenty of local customers.

We found this hotel by chance and luckily they had a room. I've never been to a resort but it felt like it, all the greenery so beautiful. The walk to old town is so close. Coffee and tea in the lobby at all times. Employees go above and beyond

Our rooms, we had several, we all musty and smelled weird. The shower handle was broken on in one room until late at night-close to midnight when it was finally fixed. The furniture was absolutely beautiful...when it was purchased in the 1980's. The rooms were tired, old, worn. But the location was fantastic. We expected more for $300+ a night. Beware, if you get building 6, it is a long, long walk and two elevators to your room!!!

While the staff was very nice - from the front desk to housekeeping, ultimately, you're paying for the location. The hotel layout, while a bit confusing at first, is unique and well situated in a hill partially overlooking Old Town San Diego. Walk out the front or another side exit to find yourself right in the middle of the food, shopping, and tourists. The room, in the 300 building, was a nice size with very high ceilings. We were situated under some stairs, so there was very little natural light, especially if you want privacy. My biggest issue was the condition of the furnishings. The veneer of the particle board bedside tables was missing in places, bubbling up from condensation and spilt beverages over the years. The fitted sheet was anything but fitted. It basically gathered into a bunched mess when we got into bed, and it was barely covering the mattress come morning. Otherwise, the room was fine... just tired. It felt and looked clean, and I think the cleaning staff is making the most out of some rooms that need updating very soon. For now, swapping out some junky looking bedside tables and some good fitted sheets might be a nice compromise. One other thing for management: the parking garage is frighteningly dark. Aside from creeping out my daughter and wife, it's very difficult to park and read signs. Food advice: enjoy a light or full meal and an incredible tequila and mezcal collection at Tahona Bar, just 1 1/2 blocks away. Check out the old El Campo Cemetery next door and its interesting history.

Wonderful Hotel and location! San Diego gas gaslamp quarter is close, trolley is nearby and sometimes the hotel shuttle will take guests to that area for free if they aren't busy with airport service. Some of the rooms are huge! Every area is serviced by their hotel shuttle and. Handicap access is available.

Best Western Plus is the brand we look for when traveling. The Hacienda Hotel Old Town met all of our expectations and then some! Clean, comfy and walking distance to wonderful shopping, tasty food and plenty of Margaritas!

The Hacienda is bouncing back after its Covid related struggles. Front desk personnel, housekeeping, airport van, etc. are all back to "normal", and a joy to work with. Public space computers do not work at all -- just glorified door stops. Printing boarding passes is a challenge. I really miss newspapers -- but that isn't Hacienda's fault. Current plans are to visit again this year.

To begin with this is a great location from which to explore Old Town San Diego and the rest of the areas in and around San Diego. We were excited to stay here because 10 years ago when we were in San Diego we saw this hotel and decided when we come back we were going to stay ‘there'. Unfortunately our stay didn't live up to our hopes. During the booking process I said we would need the shuttle to pick us up at the airport, 3 days before we arrived I called to make sure we would have the shuttle. I was told that it wouldn't be a problem and to call when we arrived and they would come and pick us up. When we arrived I called for the shuttle and was told it wasn't available and wouldn't be for at least 2 hours and that I should call an Uber! When we got to the hotel our room wasn't ready and that was acceptable because it was early in the day, @ 9:30, however we were told it should be ready for us by at least 1:30 or 2. I also checked to make sure that the shuttle was not charged to us since we had to get the Uber instead for $5 more than the shuttle. I was assured that we would not be charged and would never be charged for a service we didn't receive. After leaving our luggage with them we set out to take in Old Town. We returned @ 1 or so and checked on the room. Our room was not ready but we were told it should be by 2:30. We left to get something to drink and returned @2 or so. No room for us, but several people came in and were sent off to their rooms. Finally my husband asked why that was happening while we sitting there and waiting. They checked again and we were told ‘your room' isn't ready. I asked ‘our room'? What does that mean? After 5 hours, some of it waiting in the lobby in front of them, we were told ‘Oh, we could give you a different room other than what was designated for you. What? Crazy! ! So we did finally get a room. The room was just ok, nothing special, and housekeeping was a little sketchy. There were 2 bath towels, 1 washcloth and 2 hand towels for a room with 2 queen beds. When housekeeping did come, they took all the towels, they left 3 bath towels, 1 hand towel and no washcloths. They also took our 2 plastic cups and didn't replace them. Ha! Getting back to the shuttle, we scheduled it to take us to the airport with some trepidation, but it did work out. However when we checked out of the hotel I asked to make sure we hadn't been charged for the shuttle when we arrived that we didn't get. The same lady that told me we would never be charged for a service we didn't use, said that there was a shuttle charge! I pointed out that we never got the shuttle so I thought she'd just take that charge and use it for our departure, but I guess not because then I ended up paying cash for the shuttle we were yet to take. I asked for a print out of our bill, and there was a shuttle charge that we never had, so then I was refunded the money. Some of these things are almost funny, but a hotel really shouldn't be run like this.

Reserved and paid for 2 bed handicapped room. Hotel called and asked if could change to walk in shower. Did not mention only 1 bed in new room. Had to pay for extra room for caregiver. Management was extremely unhelpful.

We love this place. The tequila factory in the building has great food. It gets pretty booked so it's a hit n miss what room you get. Plaza level is best. Parking good. During summer is best. Been coming for years we love it

The lady at the front desk was very nice and helpful. Our room had a great view of the city and many restaurants, shops and bars within a 5 minute walk. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

The room was comfortable, and the lobby was gorgeous. In fact, the entire hotel and grounds were beautiful. The staff was friendly and helpful, the location was perfect. The coffee in the lobby was yummy!

My husband and I stayed here for one night in room 409. The hotel is extremely well located in Old Town San Diego (steps from the Whaley House and many shops and restaurants!) and check-in was a breeze. As other reviews have mentioned, the staff here is very warm and welcoming, as is the lobby, that has a working fireplace! The hotel is obviously older and could use a bit of a facelift, but has "good bones" as they say, and its hacienda style fits the neighborhood well. Note that your room could be a bit of a walk from the elevator, if you have lots of luggage. We loved the pool/ hot tub that was available. Unfortunately, we did not visit the restaurant while we stayed here so I cannot comment on the $13/ pp breakfast that was advertised, but it seemed like a great deal! The room itself was clean, comfortable, and cozy, but some of the furniture (chairs especially) was in poor repair, with stains, and really should be thoroughly cleaned or replaced. There was also a distinct musty smell that permeated the lobby and room when we arrived; however, that could have been because it was raining out and the hotel is showing its age. Later, once the rain cleared, it was not as noticeable. Sleep quality was excellent. Overall, we enjoyed staying at this property and would absolutely stay again the next time we come to San Diego!

The staff were all very friendly. I had always wanted to stay here because it was so beautiful outside. However room 703 was a huge disappointment. Dark, terrible lighting, worn bed with springs coming through, the couch totally dipped in the middle, too hard to sit on and dirty. We never went barefoot because the carpet was so greasy dirty. Other than that it was okay. Maybe another room might have been better but for us, it was NOT GOOD. ;(

We really enjoyed our stay here. The rooms are very clean and VERY comfortable. The staff is amazing and they really tend to your needs. The breakfast was very delicious and a very affordable!! I cannot wait to stay again

The facility is out dated, It was raining when we got there, rain drops were so noisy. Parking is limited. The front desk gave us parking permit and told us we can park inside the garage or street, but he didn't say that parking permit is only for garage and there is a fee. When we got the garage it was full, we had to park on the street, but still pay the fee

Extremely rude staff. Unprofessional. Room was dirty,and dated. It did however have a great view. Location was perfect. However the staff ruined our trip. Having the door pounded on at 8 am and getting yelled at by a combative employee will ruin a day. We packed our bags left old town ruining our weekday getaway.

This hotel has unique character and is not your typical brand hotel room and campus. Convenient to Old Town shops and restaurants. All within a very short walk. Staff friendly and attentive. Tequila Factory restaurant has excellent food, service, and drinks. Breakfast is best in Old Town.

This is our favorite hotel to stay in every time we visit old Town San Diego. The rooms are spacious for our family, the atmosphere is beautiful and the location is the best. The hacienda is walking distance form all our favorite Old Town attractions and the hotel offers gorgeous views of old at night.

Best Western in Old Town San Diego California was our favorite Best Western hotel. Sweet then just up quiet beautiful landscaping extremely friendly staff ing included hot tub and swimming pool. We really enjoyed the Spanish architecture design of a rooms

The location next to the Whaley House and Old Towne San Diego is what makes this property above and beyond. Plus a nice Mexican restaurant at the top of the resort with a great view and food too! Otherwise, having to pay for parking every night, and rude housekeeping and staff that is nice but they do not treat guests like they are special can offset it all! There is a cheaper and nice and clean BW down the freeway on Hotel Circle, so keep that in mind.

This was a great location for our conference. The staff was friendly and accommodating and it was walking distance to anything people wanted to see and do in Old Town San Diego. The conference room was set up exactly the way we requested and the catering was good,

The Hacienda Best Western is our go-to in San Diego. We would like to thank Michelle Linza, Kamron Wilson and Ricky Sangco for making us feel welcome. All three offered us outstanding customer service. The location is excellent - right in Old Town - and the property is gorgeous. Plaza level rooms are very popular. Room 105 in Building 1 is a really large room with two queen beds and lots of windows. Although that has been our favorite, we stayed in Building 8, room 821 last week. I think you would really like Building 8, top floor. Here's a tip: Rooms 821-822 have a view of SeaWorld and Point Loma. Rooms 823-824 have a great view of the bay. Try to get one of those four. The parking in Building 8 is excellent and the elevator is conveniently located, making it easy to get your bags from your car and into your room.

20 years ago this hotel was awesome. 20 years later it is outdated. Beds were worn out, shutter blinds not staying open, sofas and rooms need updating. No maid service available. Great location though

This is always our "go-to" hotel when staying in San Diego! It is quiet, comfortable and the location and vibes can't be beat. My wife and I have been coming here for 10 years and now with our kids and it never disappoints. Just steps from Old Town and Café Coyote. Highly recommend!

Our stay was warm and inviting. No problems with check in or when checking out. It is wonderfully located in Old Town, San Diego. Their restaurant, The Tequila Factory is located in the same structure and the food, drinks and atmosphere is OUTSTANDING! Our family and friends had chosen this location because we were in San Diego for our father's burial at the Mira Mar National Cemetery. The hotel is walking distance to so many shops, restaurants and churches. It was like living within a Mexican neighborhood.

My partner and I had a wonderful relaxing stay, although it was just for one night, it was a great night. The room with the view was a plus. The room was tidy and very clean. The bed was comfy with fluffy pillows. The hotel is located near all the beautiful restaurants and local stores, not to forget the live music, small cemetery and and ghost tour attractions. You don't have to drive anywhere else. its a special place to say the least.

I wish I could give this place a better review because the staff was so kind and helpful. I sprained my ankle the day before check in and they were wonderful assisting me with the change in circumstances and helping me bring my luggage to my room. The room itself though was awful. The windows and walls appear to have been made with tissue paper given how little noise they blocked out. Seriously, you can hear everything, even people softly walking past the room is extremely audible, let alone traffic noise and conversations in the plaza. Several shutters were broken. The door jamb has like an inch of space around it for some reason, like the carpenter just decided to eyeball it instead of measure. There was a long black hair on the pillowcase. The bathroom tile has little chips and the tub is ancient and ugly. The in room safe had no power, but maintenance was able to replace the batteries within a few minutes of my calling. I asked for extra towels and was told they'd be brought up but they never were. I paid extra for a plaza level room but I don't feel like it's worth it given the plaza noise. It's unfortunate, because the plaza layout of the hotel is so cute. If only the rooms were a little updated and soundproofed, this would be a wonderful hotel. The pool is accessible but the laundry room is not. The detergent vending machine in the laundry room appeared to be broken.

The Best place to stay when traveling, visiting and being in Old Town San Diego! The complex is huge! Many different sections mostly all with great views of Old Town and San Diego! Like a labyrinth at 1st but easy to learn the layout! Many stairs and elevators to help you get around! Great view from third level of SeaWorld fireworks! Highest level will give you the best view of Old Town and San Diego!!!

Lost water moved rooms then lost power in new room. Wall are thin can hear neighbors. Friendly staff . Clean rooms . Was there during Day of the Dead celebration. Very neat to see. I walked around the entire stay. Did not drive

The place is ideally situated in Old Town to enjoy all the amenities. From the outside the hotel looked beautiful but once inside it was a whole other story. The room should be worth walking up all the stairs. Our room was well outdated and a big disappointment (other than the view), especially for being a Platinum BW member.

Great location but very noisy depending on where your room was. Staff were nice, check in was not good due to a long wait for the room to be done but check out was fast and easy within walking distance to all the shops restaurants and bars. Very convenient

Best place to stay to experience San Diego Old Town. Old Mexican hacienda style buildings. Although connected through elevators, but ups & downs could be a maze. Good for physically fit people. If you are adventurous, then take the chance ~ you won't get disappointed.

We have stayed at many BW Hotels over the years, and stayed at this one many years ago, but it has definitely changed. It is designated a BW PLUS, but I have no idea why. We recently stayed at the San Diego Best Western Plus, September 27 to September 30. We used a BW FREE ROOM offer on the first night, which I will discuss a bit further at the end.. First let me say the staff were friendly and helpful, but their friendliness could not make up for our lack of a positive experience. 1) Check in... we got in town and at the hotel early, and I figured we might not be able to check in until 4pm. BUT, they had a list to sign for when a room was ready. We never got a call. Come to find out, they were waiting for a 2 queen bed room to come available... which we didn't need. We only needed ONE queen, but that was the only room available when we booked... so had the front desk asked the right questions, we could have gotten in early. 2) the first room (#201) they sent us to smelled awful, very moldy and musty. So we asked for a different room, which the front deck gladly obliged. BUT, that room (#400) was also mildew smelling but not as bad. even though my allergies were going wild, we stayed in the room. I realize the units are near the water, and I'm sure that has a major impact. But these rooms smelled bad! 3) one of the major issues I had with the room is that the carpet was FILTHY!!! dark spots throughout. (I took photos and posted in this review) I walked around in my socks, and in several places my socks actual STUCK to the spots on the carpet!! DISGUSTING to say the least!! And yes, I realize summer just ended and hopefully you had a full house for the summer that left things a bit dirty... but what are the housekeepers doing??? They can't SPOT CLEAN the carpet??? 4) Since we're on the topic of housekeeping; Wednesday, housekeeping left one of those cards you slip in the door lock, WHITE on one side: "Privacy Please" and a BLUE side: "Please Make Up Room". On Thursday morning when we left, I stuck the card in the key slot, BLUE SIDE OUT... and was surprised to find the room had not been cleaned, bed not made, and no new towels. Also, they provided in the bath tub, TWO hair conditioners (in different looking bottles), but NO shampoo. They obviously didn't READ the labels and because they looked different, ASSUMED one was a shampoo... wrong!! Both of these issues indicate LACK OF TRAINING. We are business owners, and I can't expect my staff to do the right job, without the correct and proper training!! 5) We were disappointed that the JACUZZI and FITNESS center were both closed. I injured my back a few months ago and was looking forward to sitting in a HOT JACUZZI, but that obviously was not going to happen! And again, I realize stuff needs to refurbished, but how about waiting until the COLD and RAIN start, to do that kind of work. We still have warm, summer weather in SoCal and San Diego into October. 6) I have never stayed at a Best Western Plus facility that did not offer a COMPLIMENTARY BREAKFAST..... at least rolls and muffins. The confirmation email I received from the BW call center even shows the BREAKFAST ICON as one of the AMENITIES!! BUT... no breakfast included! Again, not sure why the Hacienda is designated a BW PLUS hotel. 7) AND FINALLY.... Our stay consisted of 3 nights, and because one of those nights used "REWARD POINTS", I had to use the BW 800 number to make the reservation. The 800 REP had to make a one night reservation for the FREE night, and then a two night reservation for the additional nights. I thought, NO PROBLEM. BUT, it seems that the reservation REPS at the 800 center, don't relay that info to the reservation REPS at the hotel itself. SO, I begin to get notifications from Citi Bank for charges coming from BW Hacienda!! I immediately went to the front desk and asked what the charges were for, and no one could tell me why?? Finally the manager on site came out and said they would look at the issue and let me know. I finally received a call from Jamie (I think) let me know that I didn't submit the "REWARDS VOUCHER".... WHAT??? I asked her what voucher... and she said I needed to print and bring the VOUCHER for the FREE NIGHT. I told her that I was TRAVELING and have no voucher to print. I was finally able to email her, NOT a voucher, but the "CONFIRMATION EMAIL" I received from the BW 800 REP. What a hassle!! I'm supposed to be on vacation and relaxing, not dealing with a bad card charge, and was chasing down VOUCHERS!!!!! NOWHERE in the email did it say PLEASE PRINT and PRESENT THIS AT THE HOTEL... Don't your HOTELS and 800 REPS communicate?? Don't the hotels have access to the SAME INFO?? Couldn't the HOTEL have looked up the reservation and the confirmation info themselves?? Obviously there are many hotels in San Diego.... Sadly, we won't be back to this one.

My wife and I visit SanDiego twice a year for the past 10 to 12 years, and we always stay at the Hacienda Hotel. The HH always delivers a great stay and they have never disappointed us. We are already planning our next return trip in May 2023 and the Hacienda Hotel is an important part of those plans.

We have stayed at the Best Western Hacienda in Old Town 3 times over the last 6 years. One of those years was in 2021 during the pandemic. Our parents stayed here 2 times with us. One of the best parts about this hotel is that you are steps away from Old Town - and our family LOVES old town! You are also only about 10-20 minutes max from the main attractions in San Diego. Our first stay 6 years ago was amazing and I gave a glowing review right here on Tripadvisor. It deserved the praise at the time, so we came back during the pandemic and were amazed again with the grounds, the room, the staff and the breakfast included in the stay. Just one year later and our stay in July 2022 had so many disappointments. 1. The breakfast is no longer free for AAA members and the quality for what they charge you - $12 for adults and $8 for kids - is embarrasing. Snacks bought at a dollar store are better quality. The restaurant during the pandemic(2021) made us breakfast sandwiches and burritos cooked to order They were amazing and free with the stay ! This time it was stale muffins, limitied selections and no flavor in any of the buffet items for $20 one morning for me and my son. It made me not want to eat at the restaurant for lunch or dinner because the quality was so bad. We went to the Old Town Mexican Cafe the other mornings of our stay and for the same price got wonderful cooked to order food that was enough for sharing. 2. The room was the same quaint, spacious Spanish hacienda style room that we have loved but many parts of it were filthy. The top of the microwave had sticky dust, the inside of the fridge had frozen puddles of goop, and the stains on the carpet were really bad - and all over the carpet. We stayed in the plaza level rooms and it was not this way last year or a few years prior and we stayed in the same room as 2021. I must say that the housekeeping staff we encountered were really trying to keep everything going and were very friendly and accomodating. However the carpets need to either be replaced or be professionally cleaned. Also the sheets kept popping off the corners of the bed because the elastic was so worn down. This is not the cleaning staff's fault. 3. The pool was wonderful but there were never any towels. The kids swam every day and we would even ask for more towels to be brought and nothing would get restocked. My husband said the gym is also in a sad state and he has enjoyed a late night workout in there on previous stays. 4. The price - we payed almost $100 more a night this year compared to last year and with the breakfast gone and the room cleanliness seriously lacking I wonder if we will return. To even type that makes me sad. This has been one of our favorite hotels as a family and we are grieved to see it go down in standards. I really hope it improves because we would love to come back if it does.

This hotel never disappoints!!!! We have been staying at this hotel for over 25 years and the service, quality, cleanliness, service ,location etc…… is the best !!!! You will not be disappointed!!!! Quality is top notch !!!!

Beautiful grounds, charming hotel style. Love the neighborhood with restaurants and shopping near. Easy walk to metro trolley system where one can get all over San Diego. Hop on and off bus trolley also stops nearby that gets one all over San Diego. Beds SUPER comfy!!! Smelled strongly of detergent/softener - I loved the smell but know that this might bother others. This is my new home away from home when visiting San Diego!!!

the second time we stay at this hotel. We had a problem with our room and we called the front desk to take a look at it. With in minutes they changed our room and we were very satisfied. The rooms are rooms but the location is perfect, the scenery is beautiful, what else do you need. I will stay here again and again.

Great hotel... Simple as that. The only thing to know is the property is huge and has 7 buildings on it and that means a lot of walking to get to the front desk. So I would suggest requesting buildings 1,2, or 3. Short walk to the main street for food and shopping. Would suggest Chi-Chi's Mexican Cantina on the corner it is going through growing pains so the service might be slow but great food and wonderful staff.

This was a wonderful hotel in the heart of Old Town San Diego, close to numerous restaurants and shopping. The ambiance and decor of the hotel was beautiful and charming and really helped me feel like I was on vacation (as opposed to staying in the city proper). The surrounding neighborhood was quiet and we had a beautiful view of the city from our 6th floor. The pool was very nice as well once the temperature of the water was warmer on the second time we swam. The hot tub was unfortunately out of commission but it was being worked on so I can't really complain about that. I would definitely stay here again!

I stayed at BW Hacienda for 11 days for a work trip. The first room I was given in building 200 had large carpet stains that welcomed me as soon as I opened the door. The room was musty smelling. I tried to over look all of that, then went to the fridge and opened the freezer portion and there was leftover food from the previous patron. The water pressure was next to nothing along with NO HOT WATER. I called the front desk on Day 2 to let them know and the receptionist seeded surprise that I didn't know the whole building was out and wondered why they didn't tell me. She then asked if I wanted a different room.. umm yes please... my next room in the 800 building was 100x better but could still use work on the cleanliness, sanitization, and odor. If you open up the kuerig machine... do yourself a favor and don't use it. This location has so much potential but needs a lot of updating.

the fan on the A/C was very noisy the whole time it was on. the toilet moved when you set down on it. the room was clean, but for the price I expected these two thing to be in better condition. for a minute I thought I was staying in a motel 6.

I love the friendliness of the staff. Also the fact you can walk to great restaurants and bars in minutes. No Uber needed it makes for a very relaxing stay. Also the hotel bar and restaurant was excellent

We stayed here because family was staying here and wanted to be close to them. The hotel itself is in a great location and is beutiful. Lobby people very helpful to change our room and put is closer (those in the handicapped or building 600 are alot further away but closer to pool. The room was ok but smelled musty and was pretty dark but amenities were good. Like that they had the restaurant/bar on location but strange that you have to go thru two different elevator systems because the buildings don't connect. Found out later that it was previously a open air shopping center which explained things. A little pricy for what you get but couldn't beat the location if planning to stay in Old Town

front desk service was rude. we have stayed with a lot nicer people in the past that worked there. cleaned room only twice in one week. had to call to remind. restaurant used to be comped for guests. may not return.

You are playing for location only. Don't let them put you in the 600 building. The parking is a night made with only a few spaces that are all for compact cars with nothing but SUVs in there. If you have to park in the main garage it takes 3 very slow elevators to get there. I got folliculitis from the pool due to the PH in their hot tub and pool not being correct!!! I spent the rest of my vacation in pain unable to walk or sleep from the pain of the rash. Mattress on the pullout what supposed to be a full but was a twin and so uncomfortable!

Our stay at this hotel was not what we expected. Our room was not as clean. There was a no smoking policy but a few guests in our building were smoking. The hotel is very closed to Old Town. But parking is not the best at the hotel. The iron was broken and the ironing board was not in the best shape. We expected a better stay but unfortunately it is not was we wanted.

The hotel was very quaint and picturesque. located in Old Town San Diego. We enjoyed it a great deal. The hotel staff, especially Jeff who assisted with the van and lobby, were all great. It was close walking distance to restaurants and shops. The pool was lovely too.

My girlfriend and I had an amazing time. The room was alot larger then we expected. We were close walking distance to local restaurants and shops which made it so convenient to get out without driving.

I took a tour group of 50 guests to attend at this property. The hotel is situated in eight separate buildings with distinctive Mexican Hacienda style architecture, but all with elevator access. Housekeeping was provided e Rey second day but laundry and toiletry items were always available. Our room was spacious, almost suite size. The common Plaza, pool areas and city outlooks are magnificent. We dined at the outstanding Tequila Factory & Restaurant with spectacular rooftop views of San Diego's Old Town, great and generous breakfast buffet and authentic Mexican cuisine at reasonable prices. We held a presentation meeting and a catered buffet dinner here, both including projected presentations. Sales Director Lynn Allen quickly and efficiently transmitted all of my instructions to hotel staff including a last minute request for 46 box lunches. Her billing explanations weee clear, transparent and final charges weee east to settle (not always the case with some hotels). The meeting rooms are on the smaller side so this property as it pertains to groups is best suited for smaller groups or family events such as ours (up to 50 or so guests). Our group did get first class treatment. So I would highly recommend this property for families or smaller group events.

We stayed at this hotel in August 2022. Location is the best - right in the middle of Old Town. Rooms are very dated , very old. We stayed for two days and receptionist told us that due to a staff shortage our room will not be clean during our stay. Parking was $15 per day witch was nice Overall is old and not very well cleaned , old fridges, old coffee machines .

Location was perfect for walking to various restaurants, ice cream and Old Town. Staff was friendly. Plenty of outdoor areas for our family members to gather together during our reunion. Views were outstanding. Even able to see evening fireworks from the balconies.

Overall, a very pleasant stay. The room was clean and the proximity to Old Town restaurants and shops was a plus. The pillows weren't the most comfortable but they weren't a deal-breaker. We would very likely stay here again when visiting San Diego.

I am president of a railroad club hobby group. Our group of about 50 guests stayed at this property, some for the core four nights, and some like us tour leaders, stayed for seven nights. The feel of the hotel is more like a Mexican style hacienda resort off the beaten path rather than in the large city minutes from the major Old Town light rail, bus and Amtrak station. Their outstanding Sales Director Lynn Allen not only arranged for rooms, but meeting space, audio-visual services, an evening buffet banquet meal and on our last day, box lunches for our group. Meals at the rooftop Old Tequila Factory Restaurant & Cantina, be it breakfast or dinner were well prepared, with generous portions and reasonable prices and stunning rooftop city views. All meeting room and audio-visual and buffet banquet setups were executed and completed on time or ahead of schedule. The buffet dinner was generous with three entree dishes, various side dishes and desserts. Meeting space is best for smaller parties of approximately our size, 50-60 guests. The hotel appears to cater more to families and tourists, but our group of 50 received VIP treatment. Special praise to the audio-visual manager Art Fisher whose services are very reasonably priced and Sales Director Lynn Allen. Lynn was the key to organizing the hotel team for all these events with clear instructions throughout our stay and whose transparent explanation of charges in setting up our stay made settlement very straightforward.

Hotel is in a great location. Close to the freeway and many food choices. You can drive to nearby food locations or there are many that in walking distance from the hotel. This hotel is big, but once you are there, you figure it out quickly. Parking garage is gated, but parking was pleniful. We stayed on the plaza level which was very nice. Many tables and chairs outdoors and a stairway that leads down to the street level. The pool/hot tub was on our level. Room was spacious. Couch, table, table with chairs, dresser, closet, fridge, coffee maker and microwave. Small sink outside the main bathroom area. In the bathroom there is a large counter top with sink, toilet and shower. Also a multi plug in/charging station.

This one is located right in Old Towne so you can't beat the location. However the walls are super thin. Ask for a top floor room because we had people above us that all hours of the day and night stomped and ran about keeping us up. Great food but overall wouldn't return unless I could specify my room location more

The staff was courteous, pleasant, and professional; my room was clean, spacious, and fresh. Although I was attending a local educator's conference, I would definitely "gift" a weekend stay for my adult children and my grandchildren; Sea World is within a 10-mile radius, and the local shops were colorful and very pleasant.

Booked with Expedia for a nice long relaxing mini vacation. When we checked in, we were only able to get a room in an area that my wife did not like. The clerk (Sherry) mentioned that they were booked for Comic Con that weekend and had no extra rooms available, but Comic Con is not until 7/21. They don't offer rooms on the lower floors if you book with Expedia. When I went back to the front desk to mention our room was dirty and the bed was a mess, I heard the clerk offering changes to room location to customers checking in - we ended our three-night stay the first night. We have stayed at this location for 30 years and have seen it at its best and now at its worst. We have enjoyed this location right in Old Town. Unfortunately, customer service and the condition of the rooms and beds have ended this long-term relationship.

I've stayed here for the past 15yrs. 15-30 days a year. The only thing going for this hotel is the restaurant. Rooms are in need of repairs n updating. Carpets stained and torn. Bugs (silverfish n centipedes in bathroom) mold smell around ac. Shower parts broken. Obvious drywall repairs poorly done. Trash in walkways.Upon check-in multiple guest complaints at desk about broken exhaust fans and doors not working etc. is why I didn't complain I really was hoping it would be a better experience but by the end of this stay it may be my last.

The rooms were musty,light didnt work,not enough towels asked for 8 since there were 3 of us was told that was to many,They charge for parking,Not a clean feeling Had to spray the room with lysol,The first room was so bad requested another room,they also charge for parking,The price of the rooms should include parking

Depending on your room location and how recently the room has been refurbished, you can have a great stay or a disappointing one. I liked the hotel's location and the friendliness of the staff. I disliked that we had to take 3 elevators to get to our 600 room and numerous shortcomings of the room. The breakfast was boring in that it never changed. I thought some of the common areas needed sprucing up. So, decide if you want to take a chance.

Checkin is at 4 and we did not get a room until after 6.Paid for a upgraded city view but we got a room with no view that was so old and run down. Spoke to the manager Ismael the next day and he was very apologetic and helpful.

We relaxed at the pool. Walked down steps to Old Town for lunch, dinner and dessert. The room/balcony was perfect for firework shows. Our room was clean, the hotel is relaxing to walk around. The staff very nice.

This was our second stay at the the Best Western Plus Hacienda in Old Town, and it was another enjoyable stay. The property is massive, but once you walk around a bit you start to learn where the different buildings are. The best part of this property is the wonderful view of the bay from some of the upper level buildings. The location is also fantastic since you're able to literally walk out of the hotel and go down the street to many of the Old Town establishments. If you're wanting to just visit Old Town for shopping, dining and sight seeing, this place is ideal. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and will definitely look to stay here again if were in the area.

Dirty, broken, ran down rooms. A. C broken. No window screens, plumbing bad, ice machine broken, no service, no house keeping, no front desk calls ever picked up, uncomfortable beds, very small t.v's.

No continental breakfast. At the facility, the restaurant closes at 8 pm. They do charge for parking. Tight parking area. Building/room old and outdated. Old smelly room. Old Toilet/bathroom. The fan didn't work. The blinds did not close all the way. Small TV... I have a computer monitor bigger than their TV. not worth the price. Look around...shop around... Nor worth the price they are charging.

Hopefully the hotel will be renovation. It is very dated. The grounds are beautiful and the scenery is wonderful. The staff is phenomenal. But since my last visit at the hotel in 2014, very like had been updated.

As stated in the title - there was urine on the toilet seat. Our second day there we came across an empty water bottle with chewed tobacco. The room smells like mildew. The walls are very thin and you can hear all that is going on and the people above when they walk.

The room had a musty "Old Motel" smell. Their policy is to clean the room "every other day". We got nothing on day 2; I called and asked for it to be done, they said it would. Did not happen. Apparently no soundproofing between floors...sounded like the folks above us were practicing their tumbling it was so loud.

Jun 7-11 ...Failed amenities. Worst hotel experience in 20 years. Not enough staff to service the rooms. Room serviced one time in 5 nights. No Kleenex since Jun8. No working phones. Amy (manager) tried to charge guests $10 for a hardboiled egg in the lobby due to no restaurant. Stains on the room carpet were expected. The hotel staff is very defensive and not friendly when I explain how a non-disabled guest took the Disabled Parking Handicap spot in that I paid to use since I had to get a car due to the restaurant being closed all week and pay Amy $17 a night. This hotel does not meet the Best Western Plus quality standards.

Grounds are beautiful and the staff was very nice. The room was terrible. It felt dirty. The carpeting was torn and looked filthy. Not enough amenities like coffee in the room and they don't clean every day which would be fine if they gave you enough coffee and creamer to last. Room was also very dark.

Took my parents from HI to visit San Diego. The hotel is in a great location but needs a lot of updating. Rooms are not the cleanest. Furniture needs updated. Power went out and was not told about it.

Check-in was friendly, but she didn't mention breakfast, so not even sure if they had it. Everyone who worked at the hotel was kind and friendly. The property was built as a shopping center and later remodeled into a hotel, but that was clearly many years ago. It's due for a major refreshing. Lots of stairs and somewhat maze-like layout, but that's really part of the charm. You can walk right out into the middle of old town when you leave the gate though, so it's easy to forgive a little worn carpet and a broken shutter here and there. Clean, comfortable bed, hot shower, but dated TV. We did redeem our free drink tickets in the bar, and the restaurant also looked welcoming. If you're looking for something a little quirky and charming and not so corporate feeling, this place really captures the spirit of Old Town.

Was visiting our Son for a once in a lifetime and we check with front desk 3 times to make sure we will have a shuttle for graduation at 7am, no one came and so a taxi took us which was an hr later than we should of left. U cant take that back. Horrible

I highly recommend staying here if you want to experience the Old Town culture of San Diego. The hotel is in a hacienda style and truly beautiful. The customer service I received was excellent and very welcoming.

the service was amazing the hotel views were beautiful from all the hall ways from elevators and on the patio, walking around the hotel many shops and restaurants, and of course walking to Old Town San Diego Park was amazing

Problems from beginning to end. Not what we are used to experiencing from Best Western. Location was the only positive part of the stay. Professionalism needs to be taught. More check-in parking spaces would be appreciated.

The front desk was very helpful. Room was very nice. I liked the location since we could walk to restaurants and shops. The only criticism is no breakfast, although they have a voucher for a restaurant around the corner. However if you stay several nights, you have to pay for breakfast beyond the first day.

The rest of the hotel looked great, our building was awful. Building 600 is furthest from the Old Town activities and up a steep hill. The room was dirty, had stained carpet and not properly vented so everything felt wet. We were promised conjoining rooms and when we arrived they had none available as apparently this is a "request." Had I known this, I would have booked elsewhere. We were placed street side which with young children is not ideal by any means. The room did not feel secure so I'm glad I brought an extra lock with me. While walking around the hotel, literally every other building seemed so much better, building 600 is awful. We also paid for parking and were not able to park in our designated garage because it was over crowded. Overall- book elsewhere with kids, big waste of money.

Location is great hotel has a good appeal upon arrival but bring your cleaning supply including broom.patio dirty room not to clean.requested housekeeping FORGET It came back to how j left it stayed for 3 nights.. will most likely never stay again j guess that's what j get for stayin at best western.. if u do go go with low expectations so if it's good for you you won't b to dissapointed..

The hotel has such lovely ambiance. The plants and flowers and view of San Diego are spectacular. The rooms are dated, and you may actually have to climb a lot of stairs to get to your room. The dinner is nice but avoid the breakfast buffet. If you want your room cleaned and freshed up you need to remember to request it, it's not automatic. But other than that its an exceptional value. My grandson loved the heated pool.

I stayed here last summer and was disappointed on this trip to find that parking and breakfast are no longer included. The elevator broke before we could get to our room and my mobility-impaired husband had to take the stairs because maintenance hadn't arrived. A screw popped off the handrail as he went up. The shutters in the room let in too much light at night. The view from our room was lovely and faced the city, but that meant more noise, including airplane take-off. At night we could hear the man in the next room coughing. The cleaner they use now is so strong that I could smell it even before I entered the building. While we enjoyed our trip in June 2021, I'm not sure that we'll be staying here again.

Wesley checked us in and he set the tone. Friendly, informative and attentive! Tim and Abraham served our needs at the Restaurant bar and it was truly a treat. Later, we had a great meal at the restaurant and Tim was a gracious host and server. We couldn't have asked for better service. Our room was clean,comfortable, and not at all plastic as are so many corporately designed accommodations. Very close to historic Old Town and to the embarkation point for the Trolley that will take you almost anywhere in San Diego.

Great little family getaway. It's our top hotel to stay at when we visit. Beautiful hotel! Our favorite to stay in Old Town San Diego. We love the location, close to the main strip… restaurants, stores, bars.

We stayed at this property for boot camp graduation to which the shuttle service was very convenient. Overall it is a lovely property which has nice views, especially from the 600 bldg. It is quite large and can be tricky to navigate but there are shops and restaurants within walking distance, (we loved Coyote Cafe). Rooms are kinda dingy and really need to be renovated, especially the bathrooms. Luckily we didn't spend a lot of time in the room as it was not worth the $169/night we paid; however, we loved the staff, location and shuttle. Until rooms are renovated, I will probably stay elsewhere but for graduation, it met our needs.

The restaurant that overlooks the town is quite beautiful at night. Drinks were made well with appropriate mix alcohol. The rooms were very clean with high ceilings. Outdoor seating so you can relax and enjoy the view at night.

This hotel needs a desperate renovation. Carpets stained, bathtub backs up, and the door handle was about to fall off! The website stated the restaurant closed at 11 pm on a Saturday when in fact it closed at 8 pm. We were celebrating my son's birthday so I called ahead to see if they could put something in the room. They transferred me over to a voice mail and Scott was supposed to call me back. They never did. Number one rule in hospitality is to call back the customer. We checked out the next day and booked at the Hilton. When we arrived they had a nice spread for my son. I like BW but was throughly disappointed in this location. I hope they renovate soon!

We were aware of booking a budget hotel for our last few days in town. The bonus was being in the middle of Old Town and proximity to airport. Very easy to walk to restaurants (highly recommend the Coyote) The cons sadly outweigh the pros: - We were out in the oldest building (#5) and it shows. Imagine going to your grandma's for the holidays and remember her bathroom being outdated by 30+ years. The shower was disgusting. -Ignore the posts about breakfast. There is none. Coffee maker in room but there was an old coffee filter left in it so I lost my desire. It's very difficult to find a quick go and go coffee or breakfast nearby. Very inconvenient. The room was dark and felt like prison. I could hear every neighbor and their showers or toilets sounded like a jet flying over us. Our bed sunk in the middle so my husband and I would roll to middle. It's quite comical but also they should charge less for the old rooms. Sounds like we had a different experience than the newer part. I read many reviews and decided on this hotel but overall it was a bad decision. I can see a Marriott Courtyard out the window and wish we went there.

We requested our King rooms to be together and was placed in the oldest building. The rooms need updating. I have stayed in the newer rooms and those were a lot nicer. The drink tickets were for soda, Goose IPA or Budweiser, being served at Tequila Factory. They could have offered a Margarita.

Great hotel. Staff is excellent, rooms are perfect- my room was a suite with a balcony (and the windows open!), walking distance to local restaurants and tourists areas, great experience overall. Will stay here every time I travel to SD.

I paid for an upgraded view, and I got the pool view, instead of a bay view. The rooms are run down and not upgraded. There Is no elevator access to the 4 and 5 floor. The door handle did not work, you had to manually lock your own room. No coffee creamer.

Great walking distance to everything offered in and around Old Town. Located near 2 major freeways and 10mins away from Gaslamp/East Village so Uber and Lyft aren't too expensive. Would definitely recommend!

Beautiful views from our room. The room was very clean also the hotel was very clean. We loved the margaritas at the restaurant upstairs. Would highly recommend this hotel. I felt very safe. Loved it.

It a shame this place has so much potential but it's rundown, with old worn mattresses.we liked the photos online but this was deceiving I definitely would of picked another hotel had I was able to really see inside what I was paying for.

Hotel right in the center of Old Town was a perfect spot to walk around. The hotel had great views of old town and San Diego. Property had an authentic feel. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. The stairs to the rooms are no joke so if you can't do steep stairs make sure to let the staff know at check in. Would stay here again.

Nice place for adults, but not for children. Parking was less than adequate, and breakfast was not included (was led to believe it was when we booked). Very nice staff, helped us get situated quickly. Was hoping for more in amenities, but really we needed a night to rest before our big trip, so it met the intent.

Overall a beautiful view, nice weather and warm pol. Hotel itself starting to age with a slow repair uptake. Staff likely overworked and underpaid as they gave the vibe that the guests were a nuisance. ZERO extras for your dollar. Including smiles or customer service.

Literally the free breakfast is phenomenal. Top it off with the most amazing server Ernie who truly makes the day start perfect. The pool was a blast and the view is breathtaking. Lots of walking so please utilize the elevators if you can find one.

Be careful not to check in after business hours. You will have to carry your luggage up those stairs. They turn off the elevator after housekeeping goes home. Beautiful property, lots of restraunts nearby. Maintenance staff is great. Rooms are nice.

I have always wanted to stay at this hotel and finally made it happen. I was not disappointed.. The views are amazing the staff are so friendly. My only negative is that the walls are very thin. We woke up to our neighbors whole conversation loud and clear. The hotel is a bit of a maze, but the views as I said make up for it. The staff from the airport shuttle to the front desk people A+ service.

The hotel is unusual with rooms on various levels in different buildings set in beautiful surroundings and a good restaurant. The architecture is in character wilth the Old Town. The staff are extremely friendly and efficient and made our stay extremely pleasant.

Not respecting department of defense workers. Breakfast at 7am is too late for many business travelers. Most start work by 7am and have travel to get there. Many more choices in san diego that are not as dated.

This is a older hotel, great location. The out side is well maintained. The room we had need up dating. Furniture ,bed was past use date, needed updated. Tiolet, tub very brown. Tub did not drain. Window covering broken, did not work.

Stayed here so many times. Love the location and hotel. Sherry gave us great customer service. There was a male with longer black hair and glasses that almost ruined are stay. But Sherry saved the day.

The hotel location is wonderful. You are in walking distance to old town. However the rooms are not worth it. The walls are thin and you can hear everything going on in the rooms next to you. The landscaper was out at 7 in the morning using the leaf blower right next to our room. We stayed 2 nights and got charged for 3. I would not recommend staying here.

I have stayed at the Hacienda Hotel in the past when traveling for business. They have always met my needs as a BW Platinum Member. However, on this past trip the hotel fell far below what I expected. The front desk was rude on a call made from the room asking for information. There was NO breakfast for customers in the morning. Toilet made a whistle noise when filling up with water.

When we arrived check in was fast and easy, the room was in pristine condition, we could smell the clorox when we opened the door, very clean! Great location, just walked out to San Diego Ave and there were lots of nice restuarants to dine at. We were very satisfied with our stay here.

Terrific views. Location is unbeatable. Perfect for stays in old town. Customer service is amazing. Family friendly. Nice restaurant. They staff is always accommodating to our needs/requests. We were completely satisfied.

Arrived at this hotel, tired and stressed! Marisa the Manager went over and above to make our stay affordable, gave us a quiet location and perks like free parking and discount vouchers for breakfast. She checked on us shortly after to make sure we found our room ok and if we were happy with everything. Loved the location! Staff are the BEST!

I really love the exterior look and feel of the hotel. It's a really lovely location right in the heart of Old Town. The downside is that it felt a bit dirty and rundown. The floors and bathrooms were a little gross.

Really nice staff very helpful and kind. You should try the Tequila Factory on the premises, Nice place to enjoy with friends or just enjoy the atmosphere. Love the hotel being near shopping and dining. A couple hiccups but a overall good experience.

$800 for 2 rooms for less than 48hours and they charged for parking!!! This did not include valet in that charge. Rooms are small and extremely outdated…beds super old and uncomfortable. I thought for the money they were charging it would have been nicer…lesson learned

The location is what we love most and why we come back, very convenient. The staff are very friendly. Special mention to the Manager Marites Flauta. We witnessed how professional she handled guests when we're waiting to be helped. Such a warm personality and professionalism deserves a promotion.

This is a great spot with everything you need close by I highly recommend choosing another restaurant then the one in the hotel staff at night is rude and disorganized but the hotel 100% satisfied and I've been to almost all best western in San Diego

Perfect location. You can park your car at the hotel, get settled in your room and walk where ever you need to go. Restaurants, live music, museums, ice cream parlor, fresh flour tortillas etc… The hotel also has a delicious restaurant, The Tequila Factory.

Best western hotel was incredibly amazing from the staff to every amenities it's a great location for a getaway . I'm so glad I stayed here I enjoyed the view and it's located a block away from walkable restaurants and bars or just to have a night walk. Randy at front desk was very accommodating and exceeded our expectations. He's so friendly with honesty. I loved his service.

The BW Hacienda Hotel Old Town is right in the middle of Old Town. The location is perfect you can walk to everything. The lobby and grounds are well maintained. The furnishings were a bit dated in our room, but everything was clean and comfortable. I would stay here again.

It is worth upgrading to a room with a view. We were able to see the fireworks at Sea World and had a great view all the way to the water. Excellent location for shopping and restaurant/bar hopping. Great overall atmosphere.

the room had too many neglected issues. 1. Many of the shutters were no longer connected to the rod so when opened many stayed closed. When opened by hand some just fell closed 2. The prongs for the floor lamp cord were broken off so it did not work 3. the ceiling fan was so out of balance it wobbled and made so much noise it was unusable. 4, The bathroom fan did not work. 5. The switch for the bathroom heater was broken. 6. The built in stopper for the tub was broken and was sitting on the side of the tub. 7. 1 blanket for 2 beds. 8. There was no daily room service. That is not a problem but there was only 1 outside trash can for the building and it frequently was overflowing. 9. 2 packets of coffee for a room for for 4. Even though we were told coffee would be in the lobby there was none. The front desk told me there was a glitch and there would be none. it is a beautiful property but Far too many nelected items to give more than 2 stars.

This best western plus hacienda hotel had a great view for our balcony room. Great location for all the old town attractions. It is nearly the best spot to stay if your going to old town. Lots of restaurants and shopping in walking distance.

The location is great. Close to all activities in the area very convenient. Staff was very profesional and helpful. Had a couple of issues with the cleanliness of my room but staff was willing to move me rooms just to keep me satisfied I told my wife I would like to take a weekend getaway at least once a year to this hotel.

Our family and friends have been staying at this hotel for the past 15 years. The rooms are spacious and always clean. The complimentary drink cards are a win!!The location is prime! It's a great place to unwind with the kids and enjoy Old Town.

Very dissapointing stay. Twenty minutes to get lukewarm water in the shower. 1/2 armoire for everyone's clothes and no closet. Spider crawling on bed, staircase broken not usable. Ice machine on 1st floor with room 824 on the 3rd floor...wait for it...no ice in the machine. All this for 176.00 per night....but wait, there's more...17.00 extra per night for parking! Don't stay here!

The hotel is very well located. You are a very short walking distance from Old Town and many restaurants, as well as close to many San Diego features and fine restaurants. Its prices are reasonable. The hotel is getting on in age, but that is also its beauty. It's in a beautiful setting with mature landscaping and resembles the hotels of the Golden Age of Hollywood...very, very nice.

There was no cleaning staff even though the hotel was completely booked. The rates were higher than ever and the excuses blamed on COVID were endless. The wrong sheets were used on a king sized bed and the bed wasn't made correctly. Worst hotel stay I have had in my 64 years.

The Hacienda is an older hotel but very well kept. The room was small but charming and very clean. The hotel internet service was very good. It's conveniently located within walking distance to Old Town. Would be happy to stay there again.

Nice place, quiet and felt very safe. Within walking distance to all the great places in Old Town. It is a landmark. Would recommend staying here to anyone. Was a great experience. Can hardly wait to visit here again.

We had a great stay at the Best Western Hacienda. Location was great, we could walk right down to Old Town. City views are beautiful. Breakfast was convenient and good. We will definitely be staying here on our future trips.

I stayed there on a bus tour. Staff had to Load luggage because there were so many elevators and buildings.. They did not load my luggage on the bus and waited till bus driver stopped the next night and called them. I waited till 2:30 am the next morning to get my luggage and they did not even have an excuse.

Great location. Room was nice and comfortable. Amenities were great and service was wonderful. The entire hotel staff was friendly and courteous would definitely stay here again. Have stayed here several time. Would recommend

I have never had a bad experience here. Never has the staff been abrupt, unkind or having a bad day. I have been coming here for over 10 years and the hotel is still beautiful and the staff here is awesome.

The Best Western Plus at the Hacienda is wonderful. The property is beautiful, the staff at every level are super friendly and the location is excellent for seeing Old Town. But, it's also super convenient to everywhere else in San Diego. We'll definitely be back!!!

Overall experience was great. There was some inconvenience that really was out of hotels hands and more with inconsiderate people. The person in the next room smoked all day and all night. Don't expect a fancy room but it is comfortable. Loved the view I had beautiful hotel!

You can't get a better location unless you are directly on the beach. The staff in all areas of the hotel are great! Downside is lots of stairs. Many restaurant options within walking distance. Get a room on the main level to enjoy a large shared patio area, updated rooms and to avoid stairs. We did not have any problems with parking in the garage on a weekend in August. I would definitely stay here again. The staff was fantastic!

My experience from start to finish at the Hacienda was top notch. The staff was friendly and helpful. The courtyard, the pool, the restaurant were all excellent. The room is a little dated but very clean. I would stay here again for sure. Located in a very quaint Old Town area of San Diego.

our car was parked in the parking garage, since you have to pay for parking we figured there'd be some security but nope. staff was rude, horrible and unhelpful. guess it's a common thing for them they weren't too surprised about the whole ordeal! like I wasn't expecting them to pay for damages or anything but they literally brushed us off and said it's not their problem. lol. never again.

The Hacienda is cute and very convenient (in Old Town and a short drive to downtown, Harbor Park, Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Mission Park Beach, etc). Unfortunately the rooms are dated and run down (stained carpet, mildew, etc). The staff is great and it the price is good, but not a pleasant experience this time.

Both my bed and my grandson's bed were not made up properly with clean sheets. The sheet only covered half the mattress forcing you to have your feet on top of the bare mattress which had been used by other people - unsanitary and unacceptable. My room was near the pool which was pretty noisy but expected. However, I apparently had kids in a room above me jumping up and down on their beds - banging on the ceiling for at least an hour in the early evening and then again at 1 AM waking both of us up. I should have called the front desk but didn't. Lastly, we hoped to get breakfast at the restaurant but found that they only had a take-out box which you could get and eat somewhere outside. We were not given a coupon for the take out box either. Not what we expected for a vacation. Although the check in/out staff was wonderful, I doubt that I will stay in a Best Western again and though the location of this hotel was great, I would not recommend it for anyone.

August 7, 2021. The room was not ready at 4:30 PM despite completing online pre check-in. Hotel shuttle service was canceled for the day. We had to be at Petco Park by 5:30 PM. The hotel paid for a taxi to Petco Park. We received free hotel parking and $20.00 off of the room rate after we returned from Petco Park to check-in at 10:30 PM. Management did the right thing after we complained. So, we eventually had great customer service. Thank you. The room was clean and everything worked.

Hotel definitely has a hacienda vibe. Grounds are nice. Beware, the property is somewhat expansive along a hillside and to move around you must go through a labyrinth of stairs and elevators (very old elevators) to get around. Rooms are a bit outdated. Property is clean and well maintained. Restaurant is good. Great access to Old Town.

The hotel is renovated from an older one, but not complete modern. Electronics/electrics in the room were new but furniture were dated, the stay was safe and quite. The location of the hotel is super, just a couple of minutes walking to the market and the food streets, tens of Mexican style restaurants /bars available.

Pros:The place has killer views, easy access to MTS (trolley) and freeways, as well as Old Town Trolley tours and multiple restaurants/shops are within walking distance. Parking is available for a small fee which is good as city streets fill up fast overnight. Onsite laundry ($1.50 ea wash/dry) Onsite Restaurant-Tequila Factory Cons: The place is old, no pun intended, it shows in the rooms as we had multiple offenses (tile in bathroom coming out, sliding door could not be completely closed or you were stuck in there, and entry door handle would not turn, so it took several tries to get it to open and you had to shove hard against the door as the wood was swollen in the frame as well. Also, we had the previous guest's clothes in the drawer of dresser& food in fridge) General Info: The breakfast was super simple (your choice of ONE: egg burrito, egg sandwich, pre-boxed cereal or yogurt with granola bar. Each item had banana & came with choice of regular coffee or orange juice-that's it) There was only one wait-staff to take orders and get drinks, so people pile up fast from 7:30-9:30. There are STAIRS! I mean lots of stairs. The hotel sets up against the hillside, so you have to climb from lobby to your destination and it's like a maze (maps are posted in several places to help). There is an elevator from parking garage and a few others around property, but if you can't handle the ups and downs then getting to the pool will be a challenge. Pool towels were hard to come by, but soon learned you need to pick up the RED phone and call down to front desk & they will eventually bring more. Bed comes with firm mattress covered in white linens and 4 pillows per bed. We had double bed and couch room. The couch made out to a twin bed, also with white linens & tan acrylic blanket. The AC is at window and was musty, which could use some service. No pen & paper provided, nor shower kit, so be sure to bring your own supplies or perhaps call to front desk (I honestly got tired of always calling for towels or things) I'd stay there again because of where it's located and the views. It's not 5 star anymore and price point is high due the the location and view; otherwise it should be priced at (current status)$80 a night instead of of $130-$150. (as a point of reference I travel 3-5 times a year for both business & pleasure. Stay at Marriott, Wyndham & Hyatt properties. Booked this thru AAA mobile app. I try to be fair & honest as I appreciate other reviews with same info)

I love this place and have been here several times, BUT i wish they would work on the restaurant. the service is horrible and the staff needs help with customer service. this is my second stay this year and yes the first time was in the middle of COVID but now to have the same guidelines is crazy when every restaurant in the area are OPEN. is it because this is more convenient? who knows I just know this hotel is not cheap and if I am going to continue going there this better get fixed or i will not return no matter how much I like it.

One couldn't ask for any more convenient location for visiting Old Town. Room was clean and beds comfortable. As usual, only one luggage rack for two people. Check in service was prompt and friendly. Didn't like the idea of having to walk elsewhere for the free breakfast so didn't use the tickets. I would grade it higher, except it lacked a comfortable chair and only way to watch tv or read a book was to sit on the bed.

Anytime we visit old towne San Diego this is the hotel we like to stay at. The hotel needs to be upgraded. Location is great cause it's walking distance to everything. Just please upgrade sooner than later.

the location was good but I will not stay there again to get to your room you had to take to many elevators it is like a maze just to get to your room.We had four family's that were together and were all in different area's of this Hotel and only six floors and had to take to many elevators just to get to our rooms.

This is the perfect hotel for staying in the San Diego Old Town area. Walking distance to everything in old town and the surrounding area. The grounds of the hotel are very pleasant and relaxing. Almost every room has a view of the immediate surrounding city. You can watch the fire works every night from Sea World from the upper balconies. We will most assuredly be coming back to this hotel.

The Hacienda used to be great so we booked there again and it's been about 4 years since we were last there and I was terribly disappointed with staff, cleanliness, no towels , spa didn't work, leak in our shower onto the floor and Rooms were dusty. For how much you pay it's definitely not worth it .

BW is lucky to have this landmark of a hotel. The BW Hacienda Old Town is a unique and very good Old Town San Diego experience. It is wonderful to stay this hotel. The hotel is NOT a prototype of some new bottom line, fake hospitality, corporate brand.

Have stayed here before, but this time all was different. The front desk people were good. However, when you are on vacation or at lest when I am on vacation I don't want to make my bed, take out trash, and have to go and look for a restaurant that has a more than a burrito for breakfast!

I want desperately to love this hotel. The truth is that it fails in too many ways. We stayed for 5 nights, and not once did our room get cleaned, and we had to call and ask for new towels and toilet paper (which I had to go down and get myself). The elevators didn't always work, and basics like laundry were in their one non-ADA compliant building. The breakfast they offered was a burrito or a sandwich so if you pretty much don't eat eggs or pork you don't get that most basic of hotel amenities. Lack of water pressure and some basic maintenance was needed as well. The worst was the parking. You pay $17-$19 per day to park, but the truth is it's sketchy at best. We were in building 6 and the day we checked in we couldn't even get our little car into a spot because not only were the spaces too small but they had garbage and construction materials taking up over half the garage. This was a fairly pricey hotel, so to be nickel and dimed to death for poor parking and non-existent services, seems like a bit of a waste. It's a gorgeous property and the rooms are nice enough. It's a great location if you want to stay in a smaller area but still have some options, but they either need to step up to make it worth while or drop their price. Transparency on the exorbitant fees, and better parking options are the most needed things for this location.

Amazing staff, food and Mexican Atmosphere of Old Town! Rooms are spacious, clean and come with great views of Old Town, San Diego and the Pacific Ocean in the distance! Less then a block from Old Town, 2 Blocks to Trolley station and short trip to Anywhere in San Diego!

Check-in was slow with a line; however staff was too helpful. We liked the hotel and the amenities. Location is perfect for the old town visit, breakfast was a bag service due to covid situation but delicious, parking fee was cancelled as their offer. Pool was nice. We enjoyed our stay and would prefer the hotel again next time.

Family and friends came in for a weekend from AZ and CA for a loved one's memorial service. The hotel staff were very accommodating and friendly and the property was beautiful. The proximity to Old Town shops and restaurants gave us plenty of options for exploring and enjoying the beautiful weather. There were plenty of gathering spaces on the property for our big group and we enjoyed the restaurant, pool and plaza area. Would definitely stay at the Hacienda Hotel again!

Best Western Hacienda is a beautiful, perfectly located hotel in San Diego's Old Town. The property is gorgeous and the rooms are lovely and very comfortable. Lots of restaurants and local fare for anyone's liking.

Currently in the middle of a one-night stay and it is quite possibly the worst hotel (noise-wise) I've stayed in. It's midnight, the herd of wild buffalo upstairs has been stomping around, seemingly in a footrace to nowhere, for about 4 hours now. I called the front desk shortly after 10 PM in which they stated "they would look into it". The AC unit/fan is on its last two legs having been set on high in a feeble attempt to drown out the constant thud, thud, thud. It's rattling only signifies that my hope, much like it's motor, is dying. My 5 AM trip to the airport can't come soon enough. I'm too old for this. I hate this place. Don't stay here unless literally every other hotel in San Diego is booked, and in that case, sleep on the airport runway, it'll be quieter. 4 hours and 23 minutes to go...

This was the perfect place to stay for our first time vacation to San Diego. Old Town was central to everything we wanted to do. The metro transit system is only 10 min walk away and we were able to take the transit trolley and buses to every place we wanted to go...downtown, Seaport Village, Coronado Beach, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, and the zoo. Also hiked up to Presidio Hill behind the hotel for the views and a visit to the museum. The property itself covers 5 acres and built on a hillside. There are different levels and views. After a couple room changes we ended up with a lovely view (above the pool). There is also a laundry room. The property is very quaint and well maintained. The beds were comfortable. Overall I would definitely stay here again.

Staff was helpful getting us a new room due to loud neighbors, and quick responses for questions and other needs we had during our stay. Pool area was nice and complimentary drink and meal tickets were great to the restaurant that was also on the hotel grounds

We chose this hotel for the location and the positive reviews. But, unfortunately we will not return. We should have switched to another hotel after the 1st night. We left exhausted because of lack of sleep after our 5 day trip here. Positives - 1) Great location - literally steps away from everything Old Town, 2) nice staff, 3) good breakfast (even though limited because of covid) was limited to a breakfast burrito or white toast breakfast sandwich and coffee, tea or juice served to go in the hotel's restaurant, The Tequila Factory with outdoor seating, 4) the bed was somewhat comfortable. Negatives - 1) Very noisy room issues/noisy hallway. The bathroom sliding door was loud when you open/close (and hard to push/pull) and the only light switch runs a loud bathroom light fan, 2) the toilet ran all night (despite requests from maintenance), 3) we were near the garbage area, so had the added bonus of garbage day in the wee hours, 4) hallway was very noisy with foot traffic, 5) outdated room interior (bathrooms, carpets) and old plain bed linens, 6) room is dark - if you want privacy your have to keep your blinds closed because there is guest traffic walking by in the hall, 7) no parking available in hotel garage - even though it's was part of of our rate (note: the hotel allows the public to park there!), 8) lots of steep hills & stairs to access our room, 9) hotel, although charming, was not clean (especially interior stairs and halls). I think that room renovations could make a big difference here to improve the guest's stay!

I understand it is Old Town San Diego however the rooms are way over due for renovation. Our room smelled musty and it could have been cleaner. Sofa and carpet was in need of shampooing. I requested a floor level room and waiting till 6PM to check in and they put me in a Plaza level floor (3rd floor). Would I have known they were not going to accommodate me like they said I would have checked in earlier.

We love staying at the Best Western hotels and this one specifically we try to stay here at least once a year to relax its awesome love the food the drinks the ambiance just lovely. You get what you pay for when you stay at this hotel. You are greeted with very friendly gestures like your free drink at the bar and your breakfast buffet in the morning (due to covid you have choices now bit still good choice of different burritos and sandwiches). The views are beautiful any where you look theres an amazing view. The closeness of all the shops and restaurants and things to do is awesome.

I will not think twice about staying at this hotel again. Employees were extremely nice! The free breakfast was decent--nothing to complaint about it. The room was super clean and the façade of the hotel is really nice.

Hacienda Hotel Old Town is located walking distance from Old Town State Park and easy driving distance from Balboa Park, Zoo and Sea World. The hotel was clean and comfortable and staff went out of their way to be helpful. The price was excellent. Well worth the stay.

This is the perfect spot to stay when visiting San Diego. The hotel is beautiful, always clean, comfortable, friendly staff and continental breakfast included. Best of all you have your own gate walking straight into Old Town. This is definitely my favorite place to stay.

We have used Best Western Hotels as our preferred destination over the years and have been very pleased with each and every experience. There has been issues during our stays and the attentive staff quickly and efficiently handled them. We recommend this chain to friends and family and always look first for Best Western wherever or whenever we travel for business or leisure.

This is a great old hotel with awesome views but has become shabby. The shower was leaking, the towels were thin and stained. The room itself was large and clean but worn out. We stayed one night before an early flight.

Quaint Spanish style look. Quiet in most areas of 8 buildings. Covered parking (charge). Great views of city, ocean, hills. Easy access to main streets of old Towne. Complimentary tickets for food and drinks.

We paid for a city view for an extra charge and we didn't even get that at all. Room was supper outdated, pillows Were hard as a rock! My partner and I regret staying here! Please save your money and book at a different hotel! Reception didn't even care that I was not satisfied with my stay.

This hotel is our go-to hotel in San Diego because we love the location in Old Town. Its easy walking distance to everywhere in Old Town and we have a great time each and every visit to the Hacienda. This last trip though, on the first night, a family a few doors down decided to have what appeared to be a family reunion in an open area the hotel calls "The Plaza". there were about 10 screaming kids that never seemed to tire of displaying the lung capacities throughout the night along with knocking on and bumping into our door periodically. There was maybe a dozen drunken adults that spent the night attempting to laugh and shout over one another, a boom box that blasted loud bassey music - it was all pretty unnerving as my wife and I attempted to spend a quiet evening watching tv. It didn't work. In my younger days, I might have gone out and confronted the guests behind the gathering, but at my current age, I decided it best to entrust that responsibility to hotel staff. I called the front desk to ask them to quiet the party down - and I assume they tried - but there was no change in the noise outside our door. An hour later, I called a second time, and again, no change in the noise level. Finally after 10:00 pm, the noise ceased. Not sure how management could allow this family to dictate whether other guests would be allowed to enjoy their stays at the hotel. The next morning, I went to the front desk and asked whether that family would be staying another night and they told me that they would indeed be there a few more nights - so I asked to have our room changed. The front desk clerk was very sympathetic and did a good job setting up our move to another room. Second night was great - too bad management didn't have the cajones to quiet that party down and prevent our first night from being screwed up miserably.

Best location in Old Town San Diego. Large property with pool. You can walk to everything in Old Town, no need to drive. We visit San Diego often and always stay at this hotel when visiting Old Town. The San Diego Trolley (Train) station is nearby and the Old Town trolley tour Bus picks up and drops off directly in front of the hotel. The hotel has its own full service restaurant onsite.

Big tip: refuse any room in 600. It is not ideal. Try to get rooms in 100 or 300 if you can. Other buildings are good also. Many of the rooms are unique and calling the desk to reserve may get you some special options on rooms. We love this property. We have stayed in 4 different buildings. The beds are comfortable in all rooms. The walls and subfloors are a bit thin. The restaurant on property is great.

Located right in the heart of Old Town, close to restaurants and shops. Love the architecture of the building. Staff were all very friendly and service was excellent. We visited SeaWorld which was just a short drive away. Would definitely stay here again.

Great location and looks great from the outside. Very disappointed with the condition of the rooms picked the city view rooms but my room was a dissapointment very dated with lots of repairs needed. The tack strip was exposed by the bathroom and cut my toe.

Discounted rates should have been offered due to the COVID changes. There was a lot of trash laying around, granted it was small, but it made a huge difference in the overall look and comfort of the hotel.

Clean friendly fast service and gave me best price possible for last min trip. The restaurant on the fifth floor was amazing I recommend to stay at the best western in old town San Diego. Gift shops and restaurants all walking distance.Only a 10 min drive to the beach.

We stay at this hotel frequently. It is ok... It has the best location and is walking distance to everything. Makes it easy to drink and have dinner and walk back to hotel.Their parking per night is the lowest in area.. The hotel is on the older side, the rooms are outdated, but sufficient and clean. All in all OK. Breakfast is great. Old Town Tequila Factory is restaurant on premises. Any other time of the day, depends. We have had both good and bad experiences but breakfast always consistently good.

The bedding was amazing, i slept like a baby! They offer nice ac system to control the temperature! although the location is in a nice spot so heat wasn't an issue! lots of areas to lounge around outside around the resort or in your room they offer table and chairs to relax and enjoy those late night cravings! The hospitality was amazing, everyone was so nice at check in and check out! definitely recommend using the parking garage! there is a fee each night you use it, but worth it!

The Hacienda is in the perfect location for any destination in San Diego. The property is beautiful and the staff is always amazing! We've visited quite a few times and have always loved our visit. It's charming and is well worth the money. It's a great value.

We brought our kids for the first time to old town so we decided to stay at the best western. It was perfect for all of us. The room was spacious. We were close to the pool, so we decided to go in and the pool was heated. We got a complementary breakfast burrito at the Tortilla Factory which were great. Also received a free drink either non alcoholic or a drink from the bar for each guest, which was nice. Definitely will be back again.

We booked this room as a Best Western Rewards member as well as using our AAA membership. Both of those added half-price parking (regularly $17 per night), 2 free drinks and 10% discount at the Tequilla Factory restaurant on the rooftop of the property, as well as breakfast each morning, which consisted of a breakfast burrito or sandwich and juice or coffee. The grounds are beautifully maintained, sitting on a hill overlooking Old Town and towards the ocean (too far to quite see it). The restaurant has a small happy hour area where you can watch the sunset, while enjoying a cocktail, the firepit and appetizer. Dining is currently available on the front enclosed patio area. Our room with a king bed was very spacious. It it opened off the main plaza level with a courtyard feel. The floors are mexican tile with a french-door entrance, and wood blinds on all the windows. Since the room faced west, it remained dark even as morning came. Althought we did not use the pool, we walked by it. In the evening it is lit up nicely, with warm tempature. The staff were very friendly. We had a problem with a vending machine, and the manager took care of us very quickly with a great attitude. The parking structure is a bit tight as you drive through it, however it felt safe and gave easy access to whichever level your room was on. There is easy access to the streets of Old Town by stairs from the hotel. It was a nice stroll in the evening to find a sweet treat and check out the nightlife. The location is central to downtown, the bay, San Diego Zoo, Balboa park, Coronado Islan and more. We look forward to returning to this location and visiting more of San Diego's gems.

We booked a room with a view but there was construction going on and water was off in the tower of rooms that had a view so we ended up in a regular room. It was still clean and comfortable. The hotel location was great right in Old Town. Staff, especially Kristen was very nice and helpful. We enjoyed the free drink vouchers, 10% discount coupon and the daily breakfast sandwich or burrito vouchers. We ate at the Tequila Factory restaurant on the rooftop. The drinks, food and service was great! We would recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

This is a great property. The decor and property itself are outstanding. The fact that they have a restaurant on site really makes it a plus although there are dozens of places to eat and shop within a few minutes of walking - literally! Their breakfast is much better than your average grab n go at BW during COVID. They offer fresh made burritos and breakfast sandwiches with juice and coffee in the restaurant on the fifth floor. The pool is extremely warm. Unfortunately the spa is closed, but it didn't affect our stay. We really enjoyed it here and we will be back for sure! Marites at the front desk is absolutely amazing! Thank you for making our stay so nice!

Lovely hotel in a great part of town. Easy access to freeways. Lots of outdoor spaces and courtyards. Tons of character and a maze like setting with surprises around every corner. Room needed a new couch. Bed was comfortable. Room very spacious for me.

There is no chance I will ever use any other hotel in San Diego, this hotel is beyond my imagination, the hotel is way more than expected, I was hesitant to stay, we didn't even thought about the hotel but we asked anyway, boy I am happy, the hotel vies are to die for, the staff is so nice and they care for you as a person, not a business, the room was just beyond expectations, it was exremely clean and just AWESOME, this is our new little secret for me and my wife, there is NO WAY we are staying at a different hotel, we were beyond impressed. You have to try the Restaurant, due to covid restrictions it was a bit of a downer, but the views were impressive. Thank you to the staff that took care of us. ML.

The hotel was very cozy, the driver who picked us up from the airport was very friendly and offered up a list of things to do. Great location! Walking distance to Old Town with shops and restaurants galore. Staff very friendly. View from hotel and on site restaurant was breath taking! Very clean, comfy bed, linen felt crisp and clean. They accommodated our needs after returning for a second stay since we had to check in early - two people in our party had just had surgery and needed to rest.

Found this gem on AAA site. Lovely Spanish styled hotel in heart of Old Town- literally steps to all the action. Staff are wonderful. Beautiful vistas and rooms with balconies. The restaurant at top is lovely with delicious food and cocktails. Beyond delighted with this stay. On site parking. The rooms are older furniture but super clean. Really enjoyed our stay. Staff make you feel like most valued guest. Incredible value and highly recommended.

Front office personnel were amazing informative and friendly. Parking was a little tight. Walking out of the parking garage was a sight for sore eyes, Was beautiful. As we walked to our room we were very pleased with the scenery. Opening the door to our room we were even more amazed. It was spacious clean well lit very welcoming. Only complaint was the toilet didnt flush well. Complimentary drinks for 2 at tequilla factory Great thing about where our was we were steps away from old town. Major plus pool was open and was heated perfect for night swim Complimentary Breakfast was good as well. We will be back

You cannot beat the location to walking to shops and restaurants. We were pleased with property although I was told on the phone that both the pool and jacuzzi was open however when we got there the Jacuzzi was roped off. We went upstairs to Taquilla Factory fir Sat brunch and was pleased with how they recreated their options. Good food.

When we checked in, we were told we were upgraded to a better room due to it being slow with everything happening currently. The room was great, food at their restaurant was also really good! And everyone was so nice and helpful when needed! Would definitely stay here in the future again!

The room was honestly very surprising. It was almost like a one bedroom apartment. The thing that shocked me the most and weird as it sounds was the dishes in the kitchenette. Friendly staff and location is the best part. Your in the middle of old town San Diego waking up on historical land with amazing people and rich history. The best part was being right behind the number 1 most haunted house in all of America. At midnight we had gone for a walk and with other curious people we walked the grounds of the “Whaley House”. I'll definitely be back! Very soon!

Best Western Plus Hacienda Hotel in Old Town has the perfect location; just around the corner of the main drag (quiet), and in walking distance to everything. Desk service was very good, and the room was comfortable. However, we were not fans of the Tequila Factory Restaurant that was attached to the hotel.

We love this hotel and have stayed here many times. There's a unique charm here most hotels do not have. Walking distance to everything local and a great atmosphere in town. Front desk staff was friendly and very helpful

Having free food and drinks with the El Presidente made this stay well worth it. I also enjoyed learning that the hotel also has Kitchenettes so that I could cook something if I was planning on staying longer. Good deal.

Friendly, helpful staff. On-site Mexican restaurant was delicious! Near airport (though airport shuttle only words on weekends due to covid). We would stay here again. *The only problem we had was with other guests. Our room was between 2 rooms, whose families either new each other or decided to party together. They propped their doors open so they could easily access each other's room. Some stood in the doorway and we could easily hear them talking and laughing. At 10:30pm my husband got up and nicely asked them if they wouldn't mind closing their doors. Which they did... and then proceeded to continue their party outside in the open courtyard, just outside our door. We were going to call security, but because of the unsettling times we are currently living in, we were honestly afraid of what the partiers might do. Around 1:30am they finally disbanded. We couldn't have been the only ones to hear them. The entire hotel has exterior entrances to guest rooms and not sure how security didn't hear them either. I'm all for having a good time, but not when we have to get up at 4am to catch a flight.

We come here all the time for a get away. We love the location. Its in the heart of Old Town San Deigo. Can walk to the trolly to take you to the Meri time museums and Zoo. The welcome drinks are a plus and the great breakfast.

The staff here was amazing, right now in the world where things aren't ok. they sure made things feel so great. All the staff members were following all guidelines and regulations by keeping safe. I want to thank all the staff and management at this hotel, thank you so much to the SALES team Lucy Gomez for making this stay so beautiful, I love this hotel and haven't stayed here in a while, and coming back felt refreshing, they made everything so perfect. I've been staying at this hotel for over 8 years. It is always the best experience. The hotel grounds are beautiful. I love the "Hacienda" style of the rooms & the décor. Staff has always been welcoming & friendly. Pool area is always clean & maintained. This last stay was so impressive. While other hotels have discontinued any type of free breakfast, The Hacienda Hotel has went out of their way to keep it going. They provided a to-go style breakfast with choices. Wonderful!

The Hacienda is our go to hotel in San Diego. It has charm, is in the heart of Old Town, and yet has all the modern amenities you want in the 21st century! I would recommend it to anybody looking for a relaxing getaway or a business conference.

Room was very nice, in the heart of old town san Diego. Just a 3 minute walk and your in the center. Staff are all very nice and helping. Beautiful view from 3rd floor it is a big climb up there tho no elevator. I would love to stay again.

Love this place, It's right in the center of old town. It's walking distance from everything there. The best place to eat breakfast is on the patio at their Tequila factory restaurant. You can see the ocean and city overview from there.

From arrival to check out everything was easy. Staff and cleaning was excellent. Location was perfect. Room are great. View from rooms are great. This was the best getaway weekend my wife and I had in san Diego. By far.

We have stayed at this hotel a few times a year over the past 10 years. We walked into our room and received a call 4 minutes after we walked in with a noise compliant. We were in our room literally 4 minutes..we apologized but were a little confused on how this could be. 10 minutes later security came up..we were sitting on the bed talking.. security said we were too loud but we were just sitting there talking..we told the security guard we were sitting there talking and he said well you got complaint and I see alcohol in your room.. there was a bottle of wine and we wernt drunk.he accused us if being drunk.it escalated from there..we were innocent just enjoying our stay and company and were basically told to leave for no reason. I will never stay there again.. the customer service and management sucks. You lost a long term loyal client.

Very nice hotel, and the staff is great. The Hotel is in a great location, to shops and resturants. The hotel has a nice resturant and bar at the hotel that is very nice to have, also they have room service also.

This beautiful hotel is the best bang-for-your-buck in San Diego. Close to all areas--downtown, Sea World, Old Town Center. The value is amazing. The staggered buildings on the hillside are truly iconic and unique. Rooms are very clean, great mattresses, quiet & efficient heating/cooling in each room. Great restaurant in hotel. Nice pool/jacuzzi area with views of San Diego. Absolutely my favorite place to stay when visiting San Diego.

The hotel was pretty empty this p[ast weekend I had reserved a room there --cost me more than $200.00 - what I got was a noisy room a loud buzzing all day and all night I had a guest that stayed above us that every step he took was heard - and I mean loudly there was no friendliness checking in and when I complained to management the next morning about getting zero rest, sleep due to the upstairs guest and the loud buzzing - there was nom hey I am reall sorry all she said was since you a rewards member I will give you more points ????? really I spend almost $250.00 for a room where NO rest was gotten, lousy uncaring attitude from the manager and staff and No sleep and I will be given points ??? - what happened to the day where an establishment appreciated your business. ESPECIALLY during these CoronaVirus times they should really be appreciating our business Proceed with caution if you choose to stay here

This is the place to stay in Old Town! Beautiful grounds, excellent customer service, and the restaurant at the top with an amazing view of the city has fantastic food. Such a pleasure everytime we visit!

This is the only place I stay when I am in San Diego. The staff has gone out of their way to ensure everyone is taken care of. Great perks with the lunch and dinner, food was great. Will see you all again soon.

We had a great stay at the Hacienda! They took really good care of us in our time of need. We had been kicked out of our original hotel because of Covid-19. Best Western Hacienda took me and 4 others in and took great care of us. Wasn't sure at first but once we got there we realized it was an upgrade. It is pretty much in Old Town and you can walk to everything. The rooms are nice and so are the views. Can't wait to go back when Old Town is not in lock down. The staff was very nice and made us feel welcome.

On a resent business trip I had to change hotels at the last minute, the staff at the Hacienda Hotel Old Town was very accommodating and helpful and set me up with a nice room. The in-hotel restaurant is great, I loved the breakfast burritos. This Hotel is right in Old Town San Diego so it is a perfect place to stay while checking out Old Town.

I had to make a desperate emergency trip to San Diego during the pandemic to pick up a stranded family member (trip was not Covid related) and my stress levels were pretty high already. The staff put me at ease, demonstrated excellent social distancing techniques, while still offering a fantastic, cheery welcome. Room was VERY clean and had been sanitized, and they spaced out the guests so we hardly saw anyone else while there. I was so unnerved by the need to travel, but the incredible professionalism I encountered here, along with the very quiet accommodations, were just the respite I needed. I hope to return under much happier circumstances to enjoy the hotel and restaurant again! (Restaurant offered meals for pick up during the stay and it was easy to order and retrieve our food. Plus... wow, so delicious!!)

Great hotel right in the heart of town. Staff were extremely helpful making the stay all the more pleasant. Place was appropriately spanish casita style with great views. Rooms were spacious and most importantly beds were comfortable.

Lovely setting, convenient location, excellent shuttle service. Breakfast buffet wasn't the best due to food being cold, both mornings. Jeff, our shuttle driver, picked us up at the ship and transported us to the Hacienda. He was a very pleasant and accommodating individual and represented your Hotel with flying colors. We saw him the next day and he greeted us, asking how our night and stay was going, and asked if there was anything he could do for us. Excellent! When in San Diego again, we will strongly consider staying at the Hacienda. SRE

Very disappointed. Paid extra for a room with a city/bay view. Received a room that had a view of the next buildings roof and the tree in front of our room. The rooms are in need of a serious upgrade. Paint peeling in the bathrooms, decor very outdated, pillows are like rocks, ice machine missing parts, even though we had two sinks and a bathtub our room came with one bar of soap. Kleenex dispenser had one tissue left in it. TV is an old LG flat screen. Was very disappointed when I walked in, expecting much, much more from a Best Western.

This is a great place to stay while in San Diego. Close to restaurants and shopping in Old Town. Clean rooms, could use updating, but still comfortable. We will always stay here when visiting in the San Diego area.

I was traveling with 2 groups. At first they couldn't find me, then they found me as part of one group, but not the other. Had to make a phone call and wait a while. The hotel is open and I didn't feel safe. We had trouble with our meeting room, as well. Distances were long. Had to go through 4 elevators or a good number of steps to get to the lobby. The layout is confusing. Rooms were clean, but a little dated. Some electrical outlets didn't work. Great location, though.

this place needs some upgrades. the staff is friendly and helpful. the location is nice and central for the area but can tell this place is needing some big upgrades for rooms. not a big deal but when you have pvc pipe showing in a featured water fountain you know they are cheap on upgrades

Great location, great service, clean, would return again and highly recommend. Able to sit outside our room on a porch. Water fountains and staff were extremely accommodating. When I asked for directions- they led me to the area I needed rather than just pointing. Would come back to San Diego to just enjoy this atmosphere. Also had microwave, refrigerator, etc in the room. Spacious. Comfortable beds.

We had a great stay at this property. It is a half block away from Old Town and close to a myriad of great places to eat and drink. Service was very good, friendly, fast, and informed. Make sure to purchase the buffet at the front desk as there is a discount applied. Ask for a room with a balcony view of old town. The inner rooms are disturbed by housekeeping carts on the cobblestone early in the morning....

We booked this hotel to be in San Diego for a granddaughter's birthday. It is in the middle of the Old Town San Diego Park and walking distance to most of the sights. This hotel has been a staple for a long time. The rooms are large and comfortable. The restaurant on sight is good and provides a buffet breakfast. We will definitely return.

You will have to walk quite a bit to get around this property but you will enjoy the surroundings. Ask for a room close to the lobby if you have a problem walking. Old Town is only steps away though and the trolley tours leave from one block away. This hotel is clean and well maintained, and we found it very quiet.

What can I say this is one of the more charming hotels I have stayed in. Rooms are rustic. Nothing fancy. However, price point is excellent. What keeps me coming back is location. Not downtown but that's a good thing. There are is peaceful with a ton of history, charm, and eateries. The staff is professional and friendly. The Wednesday stone and cheese for guest is a great personal touch. The tequila factory restaurant offers great selections. Since I have status with BW I receive coupons for breakfast, dinner, and a margarita all on the house. Jaime at the restaurant is a wonderful and friendly waiter. When you are away from home you want to feel comfortable and cared for. If you want fancy go elsewhere but I'd you homey stay here. I will be back.

This is literally the best hotel I have ever stayed at. If I could I would live there. It is beautiful and old town is literally down stairs. I am never staying at another hotel in San Diego again!!!!

Is is a very nice place to stay and very central located in Old town San Diego. Great resturants located near by and just a short walk to trolley station which you can use to talk you to alot of great locations around San Diego

Pros: Great location in the center of Old Town with easy walking distance to local restaurants, etc. Cons: Over priced with added on charges for parking and breakfast. The breakfast buffet had a limited selection and the food was just barely warm. The coffee was just warm also. The rooms are not well sound insulated and it was hard to sleep due to the guest next door talking for hours on his phone and we could hear the entire conversation through the connecting door to our room.

Step back to 1979! Felt like I was in “that” room reserved for one night stands. BROWN toilet, nasty tiles, pocket door that wouldn't slide, Queen when promised a king, refused to go bare footed. NASTY!

Fabulous place, LOTS of stairs and one could get lost, but this is a charming hideaway next to Old Town. Our only problem - that of a noisy upstairs neighbor was corrected by moving us to another room without so much as an eye blink. Very good on-site restaurant - Old Town Tequila Factory - which has a terrific patio, with hard -to-match views. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

Stayed here over Christmas and loved the location. It is a two block walk to all the action in Old Town. The hotel is showing it's age and could use some updating. The hotel is really spread out and confusing to find your room. The stairs from outside to get to the room were exhausting. Breakfast at buffet was ok, nothing great.

It's a hidden gem right in the middle of Old Town. Every staff member we met was super nice. It's an older hotel, not too fancy, but very comfortable. The price was great, pool & hot tub area has a wonderful view, plenty of parking and good breakfast buffet. I'll definitely stay here next time I go to San Diego.

Very nice hotel. Staff was amazing. Rooms clean and comfortable. Only real issues were parking was pricey and the sound traveled very through the floors. When the people above were just walking it was very loud. Still a very good experience and would stay there again.

Lots of fun locations to visit within walking distance. Got upgraded to room with view. Beware of stairs especially if your drinking lol. Our car was broken into be sure to lock up your belongings and don't leave anything in your vehicles. Spots are very small. If you drink coffee make sure that they are refilled in the morning.

We stayed here about 6 months ago, and loved our room, services, and location. So we booked another stay at the end of December. We were warmly welcomed and told where to find our room. The layout of this hotel can make that difficult, and it took us about 15 minutes. The double queen room was clean and adequate. However, we did not get the correct number of towels or glasses for the 3 of us. Some of the towels were thin and old. One had holes in it, There was only one bar of soap and no bathmat. This hotel does not exemplify what a BW Plus hotel is supposed to be.

We had two great nights at this delightful facility. The room we had was not huge but very adequate and beautifully appointed. The room was right on a series of beautiful courtyards with tables, Bar-B-Qs, pool and hot tub. The facility seems huge with 6-8 buildings, beautiful landscaping, short walk to Historic Old Town and a million restaurants and bars. Don't overlook the Tequila Factory restaurant and lounge on-site - great food and they made the Best Western breakfast the best I've ever had.

This hotel is in the heart of Old Town San Diego and you have everything within walking distance. We really enjoyed staying here. The front desk service was great. We ate at the Tequila Factory Restaurant during their brunch and it was really good.

Love the whole property and the way it blended in to Old Town. Very convenient and parking was always available. The architecture and landscaping was beautiful. The view was great and easy access to the shops and restaurants!

I stay in a hotel about every other month. This one was definitely not the worst, but nowhere near the best. If you want a hotel with an ideal location in Old Town for a fair price, this one works. I'd rather stay at the Crowne Plaza in Hotel Circle and drive into Old Town. Or the Cosmopolitan is pricey but so worth the stay. Deodorizing fragance was overpowering in the room; hot/cold control is backwards in the shower, and the HVAC needed service. Bed was okay but not comfy.

Awesome hotel - from the breakfast to the rooms to the views, and the customer service. Parking is easy - elevators, stairs very accessible for me, with a cane. Walk to Old Town for dinner and things to do. I travel to San Diego several times a year - I'm staying here from now on!!

We have stayed at a couple of hotels around Old Town. Hacienda is on my favorite list. Checking in the desk clerk was very friendly.She was very welcoming to the hotel and informative. We stayed at the 600 building which sits at the top of the hill with a great view.. You can see Old Town, ocean, and airport . The rooms were clean. On the same property restaurant Tequila Factory with also a great view. We did get vouchers for breakfast and some drinks for Tequila Factor. The hotel has the hacienda feeling with building at different levels. But don't worry there are elevators will get you to the bottom and to the top of the hotel. They do offer shuttle service to different parts of San Diego. Pool area was clean and the water was warm. There are chairs outside of the room. Enjoyed the night lights sitting outside. As regular customers, we get a good rate, so I don't want to complain. However, there are a few things they could do that would make me happier. As a senior, it would be nice to have a grab bar at the end of the tub for more security in stepping out of the shower. The towels were rather skimpy and sparse. No facial tissue was available. Biggest on-going problem is the so called "business Center'; with its lack of a network. Trying to check e-mail is a study in frustration. The network slows down, then forgets what it's doing, and logs you back to the hotel home page. Although it worked decently well to check in to the return flight, it doesn't connect to a printer (although one sits right there) and you can't print a boarding pass or luggage tags or anything else. It has been this way for the last four (4) years and nobody ever does anything.

This hotel is in the heart of Old Town. You can walk around the area feel safe and enjoy the sights, smells and culture and be close to home. The front desk is so accommodating and the rooms and the architecture are perfect for the area.

In the heart of San Diego nestled on a hillside in beautiful Old town with all its historic charm and history. Minutes to beaches, Balboa Park, the World Famous San Diego Zoo, Sea World and beautiful Downtown San Diego and the famous USS Midway aircraft carrier. A 15 minute drive over to the beautiful island paradise Coronado. Home of the famous Hotel Del Coronado. Price, comfort, ambiance, walking distance to pubs and restaurants. The room was homey in beautiful Spanish California decor. Very comfortable with a wonderful view and outside seating to enjoy the view. Top drawer staff and wonderful full breakfast at the Tortilla Factory. Arrive hungry. This property has it all.

We were there for graduation at MCRD. I loved this location. It was in the heart of old town so easy to walk places and close to the trolley. The people at the hotel and the restaurant were exceptional. Some of the the nicest I have ever come across at hotels. The shuttle drivers were the best. The next time I go to San Diego I am definitely staying here.

The hotel is definitely the best location for the Trolleys, Old Town markets and the restaurants. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, and everyplace was very clean. Our room was immaculate, and very roomy.

We have stayed here several times before and love this place. The staff has always been great to us, very helpful and friendly. The location couldn't be better..a bunch of restaurants within walking distance, Old Town just outside the lobby. A short distance to a lot of what San Diego has to offer.

This hotel was a stop for one night. Room was a bit dark but beds were comfortable and room clean. The parking was under the building and open to street with signs to not leave anything of value so suspect there may have been issues. The rooms are accessed from a wrap around outdoor walk way also open to public so not as secure as I am used to. The location is close to many nice Old Town restaurants. Somewhat charming but for price I expected a bit more. For one night it was fine.

This is a very nice comfortable and clean themed hotel in Old Town San Diego. It is very close to Old Town proper. We took advantage of the proximity of the hotel to the Old Town Trolley line and were able to go to many of the San Diego attractions via the trolley and not have to drive anywhere. The restaurant and bar at the hotel are very good the service from the wait staff was impeccable. We will definitely make this our hotel each time we visit San Diego.

We only spent one night, but were pleased with our stay. The restaurant is great. The view from the restaurant in lovely. My only objection is the bed pillows which were way too plump for sleeping. They were great, however, for reading or TV watching in bed.

The staff for the hotel is always fast, welcoming and thorough. The lounge staff always keeps me coming back on these extended stays. With a crew like Nick, Mike, Octavia and Vernon it makes sense why they are always packed, they are all wonderful personalities making these long stays away from home far more tolerable.

I arrived around 11:30 to check in I was told that I was not guarantee the Room on till 4 clock gave them my number to call me I did not get a call till 3:00 p.m. Even though I am a gold member with the Best Western points program When it was time to check out I paid extra for an hour and a 1/2 late check out and when I arrived with a 1/2 hour to go my keys were deactivated which was frustrating luckily found one of the cleaning staff to open my door. There Is a restaurant in this hotel called the tequila factory we had a group of 19 people to our surprise we only had one waiter taking care of this party and service was unacceptable we finally had to get the manager to get things going food was very mediocre probably because of large party the hotel has good location but has a very awkward layout But does have lots of elevators and parking in which they charge for unless you have Triple A.

The greatest Hotel we have ever stayed at. Walking distance to Dowtown and so much to do. Took our kids to the Waleys house they had a great time. Staff at the hotel were very nice, great customer service

The room was not up to standards. The shower did not drain so we showered in each other's shower water. When the front desk was notified, they wanted us to wait around for them to fix it. When we instead asked to be switched to a different room, we were treated poorly by staff. One positive about the resort is the amazing restaurant upstairs.

The hotel is conveniently located, clean and quiet (inside the room). We were worried about how much freeway noise we could hear outside, but inside the room it was very quiet and we slept well. Our beds were newer and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. We will stay here again and highly recommend this hotel.

You cannot possibly get closer to the center of it all in Old Town. The rooms are a bit dated but charming. The hotel is nestled in the hillside. We are talking 4 levels of hotel spread on the hill. I would get an upstairs room due to if there are kids upstairs who cannot walk you do not want to be under that. Plumbing in the bathroom was loud. Neighbor showered late and i jumped out of bed thinking our shower just turned on. Crazy. Lots of places all around to shop and eat. Fun to be had. Very good price and we loved the free drink cards presented at check in. Charge for parking was a bit much but what can you do. The car was secure in the garage. All in all i would stay here again when in SD.

While we liked the location within walking distance from the Old Town, the room itself was small and dingy. Spiders in the bathroom. In the morning, the groundkeeper was rattling equipment right outside of our door.

The hotel was perfect. I just wished we would have stayed longer than one night. The hotel was beautiful. We felt like we were at an expensive Mexican Resort. The room was large, well decorated, quiet, we loved it. The staff at the front desk were fabulous and told us to call if we needed anything. We felt well taken care of.

The location was perfect - a block from the Old Town trolley station and restaurants, easy access to the freeway, unique and beautiful setting, gorgeous view from our balcony, and the kindness and service of every single employee we had contact with was second to none! The buffet breakfast was excellent and much less expensive than any other hotel I have been to. With our AAA membership, breakfast and on site parking were free, which made it even better! With several buildings on the campus, don't be surprised if you get a little lost; it makes for some humor with your group and others you will meet who are lost too! Next time I visit San Diego, I will definitely come back to this hotel!

This is a really great hotel, beautiful landscaping throughout and tile work on stairs. The staff treated us well, gave us some vouchers for restaurant on site that was really good. Our room was clean and the view exceptional. It was super close to Old Town, so we could walk down there in 5 minutes. I will stay here again.

Great atmosphere, love the view and the hacienda vibe throughout. The restaurant was excellent, the food and drinks were great. I loved how there was so much to do and most everything was within walking distance. The view from the restaurant and outdoor seating was awesome.

The hotel and room was tops !!! Super large rooms with very comfortable beds, pillows and bedding !! Shouts out to the Front Desk Staff of Edwin and Marisol!!! You started our mini vacation off on a great start! Super friendly, polite and they knew what they were doing !!!

I stayed at the Hacienda Hotel for three nights in November, on a business trip. The hotel was lovely, the grounds were gorgeous, neighbors were quiet. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. Just steps away from great restaurants, fun shops and the wonderful Old Town San Diego park. Would definitely return for a vacation stay.

We only stayed one night after a cruise. We did have to wait about 40 minutes to be picked up from the terminal but that is the only thing that I can say about our stay that wasn't great, and that was just the luck of where the van is when I called. The driver Zack was fantastic on both of our shuttle trips. The check-in process was made more pleasant by the friendliness and knowledge of the staff. They had to hold our bags for a couple of hours because we arrived so early. We walked around Old Town for about 90 minutes before they called to tell us our room was ready. We had a very nice room with a balcony. I understand that there are a couple of buildings that don't have complete elevator access but with all of our bags, we need one that did. I really wish we could have stayed longer.

First time staying at this hotel. Big complex but easy to get around. We had 4 adults in the room. Plenty of room 2 double beds and a sofa bed, we had a corner room. A little noisy in the morning when housekeeping starts to clean. Plenty of parking but it's a tight fit even for a regular sedan. Easy walk to Old Town even for my elderly parents. Would definitely stay again!

I really wanted to like you BWP Hacienda. You were recommended to us by friends who travel a lot to USA and we came. We arrived after a long road trip and yes, you did speak too fast for my weary head. You tried your best to direct me on your site map with your fast drawing which again I couldn't keep up with. I tried to engage in some friendly banter and I was shot down in a flaming heap. We always book our travel to include breakfast. Alas this was not the case when we enquired. As we were told twice on the two separate occasions we asked. Oh, we booked with Expedia and it doesn't count. Oh you're not a triple A member? It doesn't count. Like which overseas holidaying family is? It was a very abrupt no with a ma'am attached to the end. Suitably polite it seems if there's a ma'am or sir at the end I'm very surprised at other reviewers comments who had glowing reports. Yes we did get our 15% discount voucher, for one breakfast, lunch or dinner at the hotel restaurant. Oh and the one complimentary margarita drink... dated a day previous. It wasn't about the freebie, just attention to detail. We were in Old Town San Diego and happily paid for our drinks throughout our stay. I really wanted to like you BWP Hacienda. I did like the site layout as spread out and hillside as it is. We didn't get a room with a view but that never bothers us as we mostly explore throughout the day I did like the pool and spa and onsite coin operated laundry. (Businessmen / women only require tokens?) I did like the room service and staff who did a great job each day I did like the self parking but not the price per day I did like the closeness to Old Town and nearby eateries. I did like the 600pm lobby drinks and snacks. So I did get my free drink I suppose. A very nice red ale beer (red trolley) I really wanted to like you BWP Hacienda I can tell others do and our trusted friends did and probably still do. My first encounter with you and subsequent enquires left me with a bad taste. Probably not the salt of the earth around the edge of my margarita glass I was hoping for. If you have read this far. Please don't let me put you off. Old Town San Diego is a great place to visit.

This place is a must if you are looking to stay in Old Town. There is nothing to complain about and its easy access to everything. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. They went out of their way to get us into the pool while my husband worked and we waited for our early check in. Best hotel!

Gorgeous hacienda style hotel in middle of old downtown San Diego. Access to street markets, museums, shops and restaurants are all walking distance. Highly recommended stay for either business or pleasure. Staff is super friendly and the welcome Margaritas are a must! My only downside if you can call it that is that the doors to the rooms are glass, which make them quite pretty and unique but unfortunately you can hear a lot of what's going on outside when you're trying to sleep.

We had a very nice stay and the front desk staff is terrific! The location is excellent and we enjoyed walking over to Old Town. The breakfast in the morning is very convenient. The location is very close to the zoo, museums and beaches.

I booked this hotel due to the location and the free breakfast. The hotel staff is amazing! The front desk and shuttle driver were exceptional! Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication regarding the free breakfast they offer from their website. Apparently, they don't offer one. When I explained that it still says so on their website, they said that was a mistake and then gave us free breakfast vouchers at the local restaurant for us to use. I have mobility issues and I wouldn't have booked this hotel if I would have known how far our rooms were. They do have elevators but you have to walk a bit to get to them. Our rooms were on the 6th floor and we had to take two different elevators to get there. The restaurant was down the hill from our room so the trek back was hard for me as well.

You. can expect to have great service at the Hacienda Best Western Old Town. The location is fantastic, as well as the property. You'll feel special with their rewards program. Claudia was great about recommending the Tequila Factory upstairs on the roof with a view and authentic Mexican food. Edwin provided great service with airport transfers via the hotel shuttle. He even handled my heavy bag for me!

Our mini vacation was very nice due to great service at the hotel . We love the fact that we did not need to drive any where to enjoy Old Town San Diego. The location of the Hotel is Great, restaurant was satisfying . Over all we had a great Couples mini vacation

The room was overall clean however there was a huge amount of hair on my bed. I told the staff but they didn't seem to care. The person who checked me in was friendly and probably would have done something about it. I was just too tired to switch rooms. Also my bed was hard as a brick. I was on first floor.

A favorite stop for the family! The Spanish theme of the hotel sets the mood for your visit to Old Town. Everything in walking distance, park, walk and enjoy! Always a free breakfast and welcome drinks is a plus! This has been a family spot for over 15 years!

this was the perfect place for our 2 night stay. Great location. Was able to park in covered garage and walk to restaurants and shopping. Room was very clean. Loved our room off the plaza. Water fountain and courtyard right outside our room was nice. Breakfast buffet was really good too. The only negative comment was that check in seemed a little disorganized and it took a little longer than expected but it was really busy when we arrived and our experience and stay far outweighed the slight inconvenience at checkin.

We weren't expecting much from a room booked by the airline, but boy, were we impressed! This hotel is fantastic! Not your average cookie cutter hotel, this place has so much personality and atmosphere! The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, very outgoing and welcoming. The restaurant on site, the Tequila Factory, offered a wonderful dinner for weary travelers, with a view. The hotel is right in the heart of Old Town San Diego, and we are sad to not be here long enough to go explore! We will definitely be planning a weekend trip to this hotel and Old Town! This is one of my favorite hotels. Mainly because it's in the heart of the Old Town area of San Diego, but also the breakfast is probably the best we've ever had at a hotel. Also, the rooms are well kept and the pool is nice.

This well-located hotel in Old Town features a South West/Mexican décor. Very pleasant outdoor patio area on the plaza level, including the pool and hot tub. Rooms were spacious, clean and well-furnished. Very nice Mexican restaurant on the top floor, also with outdoor patio. Excellent service from all the staff we encountered during our 1 day stay. We wished we could have stayed longer!

Was there for lunch. Servers weren't much help for my gluten free diet. I had to struggle to get choices I could safely eat. Very hard to get around and find. Price was good. Choices very limited. Staff not to helpful.

This hotel is a great location for old town. We came with two other couples and everyone's room was different! Ours was dark and on the patio, which was noisy at night with people walking and talking outside but comfy beds and close to the pool. The other people's rooms were much nicer and had private balconies and nice views. The restaurant was really nice and food great. I loved the location of this hotel and old town is gorgeous.

great love Old Town Best Western Hacienda is close to walking distance of many museums, shops, hop on hop off bus. great place but motel is a little confusing at first need a few days to get used to the elevators and different buildings.

The hotel is located in the heart of San Diego's Old Town district. I love the location! Close to shops, great food and the trolley. The hotel is pricey for limited amenities! There's isn't a free breakfast, and you have to pay for parking. Plus, the rooms smell like chemical cleaners. I do love the location, but plan to stay elsewhere in the future.

This is my forth stay at the Hacienda Hotel and was NOT disappointed ! Everyone is so friendly and I always got a hello or a good mourning ! The staff at the front desk were very helpful with every request I had and so close to Old Town we could walk everywhere ! I just can't think of staying anywhere else ! Loved the Hacienda.. it was walking distance to all the restaurants, shops in Old Town. Rooms were large, clean and loved the vintage decor. Staff from check in to hostesses and bartenders were awesome

This hotel has a very nice outdoor setting (palm trees/tables with umbrellas/nice views from multiple sites on the grounds.) I stayed here for a conference but the site gave me a feeling of being on vacation. My room was fairly ordinary but it was on the same floor as the conference room so very easy access. Others at the conference were in the newer section of the facility and they raved about the views and how nice the rooms were so I guess it's a trade off between luxury and convenience. Since I didn't spend that much time in the room the convenience was worth the trade off to me. And there was a table with umbrella and nice views right outside my door so....

From the hotel staff to the restaurant staff, very professional and accommodating. Very good experience. The only complaint I have is that the room I was in, the beds were very uncomfortable. I prefer a firmer mattress. these were to soft.

Weekend getaway amazing staff and a beautiful view. Buffet was seriously lacking and the staff there were not very friendly or helpful they just pointed out where to sit. They also blocked off a section for those who were eating off the menu to sit.

From the moment I stepped into the complimentary airport shuttle, I was warmly welcomed and accommodated. The Hacienda Hotel provides the ambiance of Old Town and the comforts of every modern amenity. Just step into this historic property and you are presented with a sea breeze filled hallway that may just lead you to the adjoined Tequila Factory for a beverage and the BEST lunchtime buffet! Combine the evening "happy hour social" and it makes this one of my all time favorite stays! I live less than an hour from this hotel and I choose to stay over when I fly into San Diego instead of go home!

Nice location, hotel rooms need to ne updated. Furniture is out of date, loose wall plugs, noisy bath fan, leaky showerhead and poor out dated lighting. Elevators out of inspection by a year and floor light inside are incorrect.

Clean room, nice decor and great location. They property is huge! Right in the heart of old town with lots to do and an easy Uber to the downtown area. 2 blocks from the trolley your station which was the main reason we chose to stay hear. Breakfast was decent but the dinner at the restaurant was not very good. I plan on staying here the next time I visit.

Just got home from San Diego an a great stay at the BW Hacienda Hotel Old Town. Wife an I love the hotel.The Hotel is great an the staff is outstanding. We would like to thank Edwin an Stephanie an all the staff for making our visit so much fun. The hotel is located in Old Town.One block from Old town State Historical Park,Heritage Park Victorian Village, Mormon Battlaion historic Site. All worth visiting. One block from Old towns main street with restaurants, Cantina an shops.At the Hacienda Hotel Old Town they have a great Restaurant /Cantina called Tequila Factory. This is were you will receive your complementary breakfast in the morning,Every night Happy hour. On Tuesday,$ 1.50 Taco nights/ Karaoke . Wednesday nights Commentary Wine an cheeses.View from dining room to die for. Unreal.! We are retired so we travel mid week.Hotel, staff an theses events made our stay even better. Several different types of rooms to fit your needs. Great views of San Diego.Hotel offers Free shuttle from airport an also free shuttle to Midway which is were the cruises leave from.Summary excellent place to stay before or after cruise.Also worth mention at Old town state Historic Park is were Old Time trolley service is. They have 10 stops all over San Diego.We like to take a day with them an go all over seeing the city.Thanks again BW Hacienda can't wait to return.

This hotel is amazing! Beautiful property and great location. My wife and I enjoyed our stay so much. The only downside in an otherwise perfect stay was Saturday morning when we ordered breakfast for out room. It was supposed to arrive at 1015 but it was almost 12 before we got the food. The food that was delivered was not as described on the menu. It was a little disappointing and we didn't end up ordering anything from room service again after that. The employees we interacted with though were fantastic, even the lady who delivered the food was so sweet and couldn't have been nicer. I will definitely be staying at this hotel again as we have another vacation booked for next month in October!

The worst hotel. Extremely dirty, peeked under the bed and behind it and there were empty boxes left behind from previous guests. Rude staff, they don't offer a late check out, and they put holds in your credit card even after paying. Never coming back to this hotel again.

I got a room for one of my construction guys @ the Best Western Plus and they loved it and were very satisfied. The whole point on getting him a room was so he didn't have to drive home and could relax. He told me it was a great experience.

This hotel was a perfect quaint family hotel. Felt as though you were in mexico, with the flowers, pots, architecture, tile and decor. Room was spacious and clean; pool wasn't busy, so was perfect for the kids. The staff was friendly and helpful, and this was perfect walking distance to tour Old Town.

25 years ago we stayed at this hotel. In February of this year we went back for a two week stay. This hotel does not disappoint!!! Due to a delayed flight and very late arrival there was a small hiccup with our accommodation. The manager was called and he made everything right AND MORE!!!!! We were extremely satisfied. I highly recommend this hotel, very friendly staff, great food and cocktails. The location is perfect to explore Old Town!! This manager went above and beyond Nancy

First, the good: Except for one employee who seemed annoyed at me asking her why the computer in the lobby froze as I was printing my boarding pass, all of the employees I dealt with were very helpful and pleasant. The bad: 1. It was incredibly noisy outside my room for hours that night – at least until 2 a.m. The sounds weren't just from the noisy neighborhood but from people in the hotel and, in addition, a weird and repeated banging-metal noise that sounded as if someone was hitting a car with a bat. The neighborhood was replete with souvenir shops and (at night) drunks, so I'd describe the theme as Tacky Tourist. 2. The slats in the doors and windows didn't keep light out (in fact, the ones in the door were so wide that it made me nervous that people could look in easily), so the light outside the door effortlessly made its way in. The room did not make me feel secure as a single woman. Luckily, I was so tired from my long flight that I was finally able to get 4 hours of sleep. 3. The room is so tired and old it looks like a a bad Motel 6. Things like the granite countertop in the bathroom looked as if they were thrown on at the last minute, probably to replace 1945 Formica countertops. The furniture doesn't look antique (which it isn't supposed to anyway – no one expects a Best Western to look like a B&B); it looks like the stuff that people leave on the sidewalk when they're moving and don't want to take things with them. 4. The room charge for the above – which was supposedly a “negotiated rate” for a wedding I was attending – was at least $70 higher than the advertised rates I saw online from all the usual reservation places (at least 6 of them) after I got home – and what makes it even more irritating was that there's a ripoff “facilities fee” ON TOP OF THAT for…WHAT? The employee at the desk said that it was for things like the junky coffee maker (from which small white bugs emerged and parked themselves atop the filter/pod). That's like adding insult to injury. If you feel compelled to charge these fees, add it to the room rate. A bottom-of-the-line single-cup coffee maker is not a “facility” – I'd be surprised if the stupid thing cost more than $10. What's next? Charging for the junk furniture? I was expecting someplace like a Hampton Inn - clean, modern, and basic. That's not what this was/is. If I had to do it over again, I'd go somewhere else.

Nice hotel dated furniture to fit a hacienda I guess. Clean environment. Staff was friendly and helpful in the lobby as well as the tequila factory restaurant. Lots of stairs so be prepared. Overall I enjoyed and will visit again

I stayed at this hotel during comic-con and chose it because we had limited choices as hotels are all booked during the con. A lottery system is used to get a Hotel during this time and ALL the hotels in San Diego raise their rates because of the high demand. Our room was clean and decent but outdated. We were put in the farthest unit too. A long walk and three elevators to get to the front desk...... Especially when you have luggage to haul. Outside floors were dirty and could use a cleaning. On the positive side staff was very nice and helpful. Old town shopping and restraunts are close to the hotel too. We used the train to get downtown and the station is about a ten minute walk. For what we paid, I'll stay elsewhere next comic con.

my mom wanted to go on a last min trip to san diego. So i booked a decent hotel , this was my choice. I liked it, we all did and it fit what we needed perfect. This hotel is literally around the corner in old town. It is walking distance to all restaurants , bars, shops. It was very lively during the day, but quiet at night. Check in was quick and she gave me step by step direction to get to the parking garage, room, and restaurant (where we had 2 free drink tickets at 15% off coupon!). The room was nice, high ceilings with a cabana type feel. Outside the room there was a table to lounge at, which we did later that night. I slept on the pullout couch and although it did the job, it was strange feeling the shape of other bodies on the cot! The blankets were itchy due to the fabric, but otherwise I actually slept surprisingly well. I would suggest a new comfy mattress and some nicer blankets. Oh! And pillow upgrade would be nice as well. We went to the restaurant later that night after our day trip at the beach. My mother and sister got the free drink and food so I can't say how that was, but there was a busser who works there that is really cute.

I honestly enjoyed my stay, amd the staff was so pleasant, and professional, it was really very nice stay. The food was fantastic, and the live music was excellent, I look forward to returning again. Well done.

Was in 62* room,very old room and can feel humidity in it.hotel is huge and swimming pool very small so many people in a small swimming pool. Clean but old. Very average but location is good in old town

Went to take a shower the first nite there and the handle to turn on water fell off. Called front dest was told maintenance had gone home for the day. They could not give us another room because they were full booked. After day out we needed a shower. Was told they would find us somewhere to take a shower. My husband was led to another room to take a shower but I refused to be walking all over the property to take a shower. I assume this room was empty so why were we not able to occupy that room. I assume it was a more expensive room and they didnt want to give us that room. Was told maintenance would be in at 6:30 the next morning so I told them to send maintenance up at 7am. We got us early and waited until 7:30. No one had come so I called again and was told that maintenance was informed and they would send them right away. 2 men came and the entire unit of the handle had to be changed. We had come to San Diego for a family wedding and spent the first night with no shower and had to get up at 6;30 to wait for maintenance. This to me was very poor management and terrible service. The shower should have been checked before someone occupied it. I will never book this property again and advise people to check everything when you check in.

This was a nice place to stay within walking distance to Old Town shops and restaurants and a short Uber drive to Petco Park and the Gas Lamp district. Breakfast buffet didn't have a huge selection but was good.

We stayed in room 100 - from 7/16-7/23. We scored our room thru the SDCC lottery. I had called the day before check in to let them know that I had a special needs child and would prefer a room closer to the main office or an elevator. I was very surprised to have the room we had, which was essentially the building behind the front office either up 1 flight of stairs or next to the elevators. We were picked up at the airport by Rudy who was very friendly and helpful. Along the short drive he gave us some great pointers and recommendations. Check in: Check in was a breeze with Bobby. Since we had already pre-paid for 2 nights we were charged the remaining along with incidentals. We were given 2 cool keys since we were apart of the group that booked thru ComiCon. Room: As the name states- it's Hacienda style. It's goes perfectly with the name of the location in Old Town. We had a double queen bed with a twin fold out couch, a small table and a small tv. The beds- not comfortable at all. Which was surprising considering we had just checked out of the Best Western Mini Suites in Anaheim and had the most comfortable beds. My son slept on the pull out couch and had the the worst sleeps ever. He had no issue with the pullout bed from the Best Western in Anaheim, but the one in this room he could feel all the springs in paper thin mattress and it was very noisy. Outlets: not enough. We had to crawl under the bed to plug in our phone chargers. Blinds on our door where broken. There was a microwave that didn't always work in our room, and a small fridge. The walls are thin as we could hear our neighbors above us using the restroom and the neighbors next to us watching tv. There is no free breakfast so you'll have to find either Uber/DoorDash or go to the Tequila Factory. They do offer a service where you can place your breakfast order and put it on your door and they'll bring it to your room when the next morning. The pool: it's by the 500 building so almost across the property. The bees seems to love the pool as the 2x we came here the it was full of dead bees. Not sure how often it was cleaned as they were left on the side of the pool the next day. Overall; we had an okay stay. We were limited as we didn't bring a car ($20 per night for parking). But this did allow us to get out and explore Old Town more than we probably would have had we had a car. There are some great restaurants within walking distance and the Trolly to Downtown is a 7 min walk away. Overall- this was likely our first and last stay. Unless they have a renovation which brings in new mattresses it's not worth the cost.

It takes 3 different elevators to get to room 633, there were used purple fake nails by our beds on the floor which my son was playing with, the shower rod was ripping out of the wall on both sides and the tiles were coming out with it. Check-in was not ready at 4. 5 hours of turnaround time and our room was still unsatisfactory, unsafe, and cost a bloody fortune. I'll never stay at a Best Western again.

Stayed here for conference at San Diego Convention Center. Very nice. Rooms are clean, comfortable and accommodating. Took Lyft to/from Conv Ctr. Love the location and it's not downtown San Diego. Love Old Town San Diego.

Every time we visited old town SD we always saw this cute hotel. It seemed perfect. Steps away from everything. We decided to book and stay for two nights. The checking was good but when they had to give me a map to get to our room it was a maze. I didn't realize how big this place is. We had to take 3 elevators to get to the back/top where our room was. The room was spacious but out of date. We were located next to the street and it was so noisy. On our first early morning the gardener decided to trim trees that we were up by 6 am. We also noticed that the freezer had a glass bottle that was broken and there was frozen glass all over. I think the property is beautiful but the room we were given was the worst. Maybe ask for the rooms at the front of the property. Oh and be prepare to pay $19 a night for parking.
