Best Western Plus Island Palms Hotel & Marina

Clean and Comfortable rooms with spectacular Oceanside views! Excellent food and service at the restaurant! Located by long bayside walking path. Fishing pier with beer canteen situated across the street from the hotel. Quiet and peaceful away from the traffic of the city.

Stayed here as a family of four over spring break. Beautiful and safe location. We drove down about 45 min from Legoland. However, it is very close to the airport, Old Town and Balboa Park (~ 15 min). Has frequent views of military aircraft and helicopters. This was a plus to us. There is a waterfront path frequented by walkers and joggers. There are at least four restaurants on the strand including the famous music venue Humphreys. We didn't get a chance to try the restaurant on-site but it looked nice. We didn't want to pay the $20/person breakfast. There were two pools that were both kid friendly and nicely heated. Our room was an extra spacious double Queen with a kitchen. We were very pleased with that upgrade. The fitness room was nicely equipped and clean. Only negative during our stay was there was a boiler repair occurring in our building that resulted in no hot water for several hours. After some negotiations we were able to be adequately accommodated. Overall, this was a minor inconvenience in what was a very beautiful and memorable vacation.

Please stop spraying Lysol disinfectant everywhere!!!! The smell inside the hotel rooms and hallways is disgusting! Instant headache. Also, something in the room gave me an asthma attack. Probably the overuse of aerosol disinfecting sprays. I overheard another guest describe the smell inside the hotel as “like a Starbucks bathroom.” I think that nailed it. The place is old and moldy, I guess they think spraying disinfectant constantly will make a difference. I had lots of trouble sleeping because of the smell. If you have asthma, allergies, or are sensitive to odors, this isn't a place you should stay. I can't ever recall being so uncomfortable or miserable at a hotel.

Shelter Island is a great place to stay. It's close to the airport, quiet and the views are stunning. We had marina views from our patio which we enjoyed immensely. We booked the breakfast rate which was really great because it allowed us to fill up before a busy day out. The couch in our room was a sofa bed and it wasn't very comfortable to sit in for long periods of time. Front desk/guest services was responsive every time we called. We also loved using the gorgeous pool, but being close to the hot tub meant we could hear the people there every night until about 11 pm when it closed. Sound proofing isn't great - a family member staying in another room heard people talking (not yelling or partying) until 3 am. Bring ear plugs and a sound machine!

We recently stayed at Island Palms Hotel and Marina with its spectacular view of the marina. This was our 5th stay at the hotel and hopefully it will not be our last. The restaurant and bar, whilst having a fairly limited menu, serves up lovely food with friendly and courteous staff. The rooms are perfectly adequate for our needs but could perhaps benefit from a refresh in the near future. The location is fantastic having amazing marina views to the rear and bay view to the front and is well located for the international airport. Since returning home (to the UK) we have an issue that we wish to discuss directly with customer service at the hotel. We have sent several emails and contacted Best Western in the UK to confirm the correct email address. To date, no-one has replied to our communications. We would appreciate if a member of the management team would reach out to us at the earliest opportunity in order to quickly resolve our outstanding issue. We are making plans to return to Island Palms later this year.

Will always stay with BW! Great service and super friendly! Will refer others to stay here! Breakfast was always good and ready before all meetings. Clean and airy in all rooms and conference rooms. Enjoyed my stay.

Very nice property 5 star dining and cocktails 5 star rooms right across from the bay Perfect view of lights across the bay to downtown. Staff always friendly and welcoming. Grounds clean and landscape

Can't say enough about how terrific the entire staff was from check in to housekeeping. I wish I had the recipe for the Mai Tais they serve at the bar. THe restuarant menu did not dissappoint, either. Terrific selection. Try the Tuna Tataki appetizer and the smoky Rib Eye.

My husband and I booked a scenic view suite for a recent stay of 4 nights. We were disappointed that the “view” from the room was a tiled roof and the “view” from the balcony was the adjacent building. Not very scenic at all. The front desk was courteous but no other rooms were available and was offered no adjustment to our bill for $300 for one night. We checked out after one night and found other accommodations. As a long time Rewards member, I was very disappointed.

The area is very beautiful. The rooms were clean and nice as well. No issues with the room :) I did however have an issue with my bill, which the manager was very helpful and quick to fix once it was brought to their attention.

This is a nice location but unfortunately someone entered our room and stole cash from our backpacks. We had the "do not make up the room" sign on the door but it was obvious that someone let themselves in. They tucked my wallet into the wrong pocket after taking only the cash and zipping it back up. Good lesson to always lock stuff away but very disappointing though. We didn't have time to stick around and find out how this happened and obviously we weren't getting our cash back (It was both our Canadian and American and approx $120 ish). The beds were comfortable...

This used to be my go-to place in San Diego, but it has slipped. This stay was in the Casa Del Mar building. Its wooden frame creaks and sags, and you can smell the rot in halls and rooms. This building lacks the character of the older parts of the resort and the luxury of the Casa Marina building. You can fix that by picking the right room, but you can't fix the $25 NIGHTLY PARKING FEE management has added! In Point Loma! It takes a lot of nerve to rip people off like that when you're already the only BW in town without free breakfast. That said, I loved the BW Yacht Harbor a mile down the street that gives you both free breakfast and free parking.

Quiet. Comfortable. Clean. Parking across the street. Marina View. Easy walk to other restaurants. Shelter Island is still old school and has not been turned into developments with skyscrapers. Nothing higher than 2 or 3 stories. The Bar/Lounge Happy Hour is the way to go. Prices are very good, even for wine, which was fine and drinkable. The food is quite tasty and we were quite surprised how good it was. Breakfast in the hotel is actually a REAL breakfast. Not those chaotic buffets with tons of people running around and grabbing stuff and fake eggs. You order from the menu! Breakfast served hot and to order. No chaos. Window seats on the water.

My husband and I went to San Diego for a quick, one night, getaway and had a wonderful time! We spent some time in La Jolla to walk along the water and then headed to Shelter Island. We were able to check in an hour early. We then went for a walk along the water right in front of the hotel! It is gorgeous! This is one of the best parts of this hotel. The other major positive is that we can walk to Ketch for dinner! We love being able to walk to eat or get a coffee! There's a coffee and gelato place right next to Ketch. There are a few other restaurants within walking distance too. We love dining with a water view. We have stayed at BW Island Palms about five times now and will definitely be back! The only thing that surprised us this time was the $25 parking fee. We don't remember ever having to pay that in the past. There's free parking across the street though. Overall, this is a beautiful location!. We always request a marina view!

We are locals and were going to a concert at Humphrey's and did not want to drive home late so we booked a room and were totally pleased either the accommodations. We stayed in the Del Mar rooms and had a wonderful view and dinner and total stay.

I'd been wanting to come to this property since the first time I visited San Diego. Even knowing that the marina view were the best rooms I picked the basic one. Huge mistake. The view to the parking lot in the first floor was not enticing and the room in the small side, very basic. But as days went by (we stayed 3 days) I was happy for my selection. First, the bed was comfy (pillows so-so but that's the norm), the housekeeping was great, the reception desk amazing. Then we realized that, yes we have the parking lot view, but cross the street and you'll find the sea and boats. Beautiful. Second, loved the area. Loved it. I'd stay again here in a heartbeat. Then parking lot: yes you have to pay 22 USD (or so) to park in the premises overnight, but you have plenty of free parking across the street and you can also park your car during the day even without a permit: we returned to take a breather every day and that was awesome. Overall, yes I'd stay here again. Small, a bit on the basic side, but clean, good service, next to the sea and marina... Yup, all good!

The location was very peaceful and close to the airport. The only negative comment I had was there was a sewer smell coming out of the toilet. We noticed this on our third night. Since it was after 9 PM we called the front desk and spoke to Alex to have the maintenance check it in the morning. The next day no calls, no voicemails, and no missed calls…no follow up calls. We ended up just closing the toilet lid every time otherwise the bathroom would smell like a sewer. Housekeeping forgot to service our room even though they were right next door when we left and I made sure the sign to make up the room was hanging. I called the front desk, they sent the housekeeping, I told them we were leaving and they could come anytime. When we came back, the bed was made up and the towels were replaced but the dirt on the floor was not cleaned. This is the same day we noticed the sewer smell in the bathroom. When we checked in there we no trashliners. The nightstand varnish was peeling. The coffeemaker has mold and it's obvious that it was not cleaned prior to our check in. Other than that our stay was nice..The hotel staff was nice, the restaurant staffs were very accommodating and very friendly. I would come back here, it's a very nice location. Thank you.

What a great stay we had, thank you Best Western Island Palms. Such a great setting with very friendly and accommodating staff. Super kid-friendly too! We enjoyed the restaurant and lounge, the food quality, selection, and presentation are not the typical hotel restaurant fare. Thank you Island Palms for helping create beautiful family memories!

I am mixed on this review. The hotel was great. The stay was awesome. But there was a mix up in booking between the third party vendor and Best Western. Our dates somehow magically were for the previous week. No email from the hotel asking if we were coming, no contact whatsoever. Then when we tried to check in the nice guy behind the counter said oh your reservations were for last week??? So we had to pay for our stay again. Lucky for us the third party vendor, after contacting BW said they would refund it. BW said it was not their fault. Again, when no one shows up for 3 days I am sure you rented those rooms.

Planned a quick trip to San Diego Shelter Island. We usually stay At Humphrey's but the were over priced for the time we wanted. Thought we would try the neighboring hotel “Island Palms”. So glad we did. Room was great, ground floor in Casa Marina building. Facing the marina. Room 478.

The entire building stank especially the hallways and the stairs. We contemplated on leaving in the middle of the night. The air quality in the room was so poor. It smelled of molds and the AC was blowing out dirty air. Everything felt old and dirty. The shower water pressure was weak. Even the pool was disappointing. It was not even heated. Did not see a single staff around to complain to. We are only about 2 hours away from San Diego and regret having stayed at such a crappy hotel for 200 plus dollars when our home and pool are 200% nicer and cleaner. It was the worst decision ever. Never again will we stay in this hotel.

You will be so happy you booked this property. It has a fantastic location, the friendliest staff and great amenities. I've stayed here three times and was never disappointed. I highly recommend this hotel.

Hotel rooms need to have USB ports there was none. Rooms are nice clean. The location is beautiful. Dining facilities are outstanding. Coffee in the morning you can't beat that and the people are outstanding and great they make you laugh. They make you feel comfortable just like being with other friends in your family.

Booked this hotel based upon the reviews that said there was a playground and beach on the peninsula, in addition to the 2 hotel pools & 2 hot tubs. The hotel felt very private, secluded and safe. There was plenty of free street parking for during the day, and the parking lots (across from the hotel) were supposedly free overnight and at your own risk. I didn't rent a car this trip, so I didn't test it out. There is hotel parking for $25/night in their parking lots, and also a garage near the tennis courts for overflow. When booking the room on-line direct with the hotel, there is an option to "Include breakfast" for approximately $15 to $20 more per night. I ended up booking this option, which allowed a $16 credit towards an entree (at the hotel restaurant) on the Breakfast Menu (7am-11am) for each person on the reservation. We enjoyed starting our vacation day with a nice breakfast. Most of the entrees are priced between $14-$16, so we only had to purchase coffee or juice, if we wanted it. The $16 credit, also paid the tip on the bill as well, so that was nice and unexpected. We still tipped on our meal to be generous, as we had excellent service every morning. The front desk could improve check-in information- I only found out days later they have a fancy coffee machine across the lobby for free from 7am-10am, it's kind of hidden, so I didn't notice it ever. There was also a Polynesian show on Thursdays (which we missed) and a DJ pool party/music on Fridays (we also missed). The hotel location is ideal. It's away from the hotel that hosts concerts (Humphrey's?), so the concert noise isn't a nuisance. This hotel does not charge a resort fee, which was amazing. The other fancy hotel next door, was crazy expensive and did have a steep resort fee too. I loved that the area was safe and I was able to run around Shelter Island, which was a 3.5 mile loop and perfect to continue my marathon training while out of town. Only con- the room was a little musty/humid, but the marina is right outside the room, and the other side of the building has open water as well. The air conditioning wall units worked great, so that was a big plus.

We arrived tonight.We we're so excited for this trip,I requested a marina view third floor phoned twice to confirm.We arrive to a bottom floor ,ok no problem.I phoned front desk the lady was rude and short with me saying they have nothing left. When we arrived she was on her phone and I had to say hello ,then she got off her phone. Our room is dirty and gross ,It's like a motel 6.I pulled down my sheets to crawl in bed ,there was a long black hair in my bed (I'm blonde) I wiped down the major touch surfaces.The light switch in the bathroom was a dark color it's now cream coloured.There are stains on the bathroom wall The chairs feel wet.The furniture is very old and tired.I will go talk to another staff member in the morning . Our view is of the marina which is nice. Our package came with breakfast from the restaurant and they were both pretty good. It is a nice area to stay it is quieter and right at the water The people at the front desk the next morning really nice.

My family of 5 stayed here as it was the last leg of our California road trip. It was a lovely end to a week of visiting various California destinations… the BW suite was spacious for 5 (2 queen beds & a pull-out couch) with a kitchen and a large bathroom. Free bikes and 2 pools overlooking a beautiful water setting. Staff was very nice. Would stay here again!

We arrived at 3 pm. I knew check in was 4pm so I was not surprised when I was told I would be called when the room was ready or if I wasn't called by 4 to come back. The only issue was the front desk agent was really hard to understand, she mumbled and seemed a bit spacey. We walked away asking each other “what was she saying?”. After 4, with no call, back to the desk. Huge line. When I finally made it to the front, our room still was not ready. Apparently there was a communication issue between housekeeping and the front desk. After some back and forth, we finally had a room. I want to commend Maria for helping us. She was in training and I could tell stressed but she was friendly and efficient. We had a double suite with a full kitchen. Walking in, we were disappointed. Our scenic view was of other buildings roofs and a tiny sliver of water seen between huge trees. Everything was really worn and outdated. Not only worn, the room was DIRTY. There were splatters all over the old kitchen cabinets, inside them and under the sink. The ceiling fan was filthy with black dirt all over it. The carpets were questionable to walk on with bare feet. The kitchen on inspection was lacking. This suite sleeps six (sofa sleeper) but I found three coffee cups, three plates, four saucers and three bowls. In the silverware drawer was three forks and knives, four spoons. No glasses only cheap plastic cups. No cutting knives. I found some banged up pots and pans, a couple of cooking utensils, coffee pot, toaster. That's it. No dish towels, no pot holders. Under the sink a used sponge and a half-empty tiny bottle of dish soap. In the bedroom, the beds were on the firm size but manageable. Unfortunately, one pillowcase had black stains all over it. The beds were so close to the wall/closet that the second person would have issues getting in and out. That's when I realized that although the room had been “updated” it was only at 50%. For example, they had a granite shower surround and countertop but left the worn out tub and cracked sink. The toiletries were communal attached to the shower wall but the shower gel was completely empty. There weren't any washcloths. There were just so many little things. Paint was chipping all over. The toilet needed two flushes to work. The shower valve leaked. There were broken blinds. The bedroom door didn't actually have a latch so didn't really close. The bedroom fan squeaked all night. We had to keep calling for supplies that should have been replenished like the plastic cups. We finally got washcloths but I had to ask for them. This “resort” was on the cheaper side for San Diego. However, you get what you pay for. I wish we had paid a little more for a cleaner, better maintained property.

We arrived at this hotel on a Saturday and left on Tuesday. Great location. The only issue I had was with parking. I feel if you are going to be charged for parking, then there should be a parking spot for you. You shouldn't have to search for a spot across or down the street like we did.

Never having been to San Diego, I had a difficult time deciding what area to stay in. I was very happy with my choice of this hotel where we recently stayed for 4 nights in a king bed suite (2 rooms/2 full bathrms!) in the Casa del Mar bldg facing marina. Arrived evening of July 4th and saw a beautiful fireworks display in front of hotel on bay. Our room was clean, wonderful & spacious for the 3 of us except the bathroom had not been renovated yet which on phone was told it would be. All the windows could be opened and, with temps in 70's, was a delight since we had just visited Palm Springs (110F). Pull out was comfortable for our daughter as was our king. I chose the breakfast package which amounted to a $16/pp/per day voucher. NOTE: gratuity is included (should be printed on voucher). We were not informed & were giving tips to our servers personally until we got a receipt because we ordered other items. Also, it is not $16 total but a breakfast entree up to $16. Location was great -from here it was a short ride to all the places we wanted to visit. We would definitely stay here again but request a room closer to main bldg where restaurant is. Parking space close to room location was difficult to find after 9pm.

The room was not cleaned properly at all. Found a used hair brush in between the mattress and headboard, staples and crumbs on the carpet, a used tissue under the bathroom sink( no trash can in bathroom) no silverware in kitchenette…had to call front desk to bring up. Also had to call for extra blanket and was told there were no extra blankets. For the price I paid I would've expected a much cleaner room and more understanding from the staff.

The Island Palms hotel has views of water and boats from the balcony. The access to the airport, downtown San Diego, and restaurants is outstanding. The Pt. Loma weather makes for a cool summer, away from heat and closeness otothe ocean. The rooms are clean and the restaurant has good seafood.

The location was great, close to a lot of restaurants, airport etc. etc. However, our room left a lot to be desired. Very dirty and desperately needed painting. Furniture old and tired looking. Things that should have automatically been stocked in the kitchen were not and we had to call housekeeping for dish detergent, sponges etc. etc. we had a nice marina view room. Was not impressed with their restaurant, the blue wave. All in all would probably not return.

Loved everything about this property... Great location and friendly staff. Only con is the decking on the second floor... Ended up in urgent care with my 2 year old to have an inch long splinter removed from his foot. Other than that minor inconvenience the hotel was beautiful and we will definitely be visiting again on our yearly trip to SD.

This hotel was so wonderful that I extended my stay several nights. The service was fantastic every step of the way. I particularly loved the "luxury apartment" feel of the suite I had. My suite overlooked the marina, and the overall vibe was relaxing and very welcoming. A special note of thanks to the fantastic staff at the front desk, who were very kind and welcoming. This place is just a gem in the heart of Shelter Island.

Very nice place to stay , a little outdated . Hallways have an old smell to it . I feel a little too expensive for this type of room . Shower head has no pressure , it took forever just to shower and rinse my hair . The staff though was great !! Just don't go to the restaurant, bad slow service .

My trip was for a church retreat. The hotel staff were especially kind, helpful and went out of their way to assist me with finding the perfect room and location so that I was close to the event. ( I have a handicap and I had a LOT of luggage !) The food served was delicious and plentiful, and service was efficient and gracious. The location is awesome, right on the marina on Shelter Island.

Coming in a little late with this review. We stayed here for a couple of nights in November. It's a nice place with decent view of the water. It's older, but everything works. Very good value overall. I would stay here again if in the area.

The location is great. The rooms are nice and spacious. Occasional street care noise but overall it was really nice. Too bad it rained all weekend. Our boys have brought their xbox to play but the new TV does not allow any external devices to work. They gym equipment is also wanting according to my son.

This was a birthday for my daughter's 15th over the Martin Luther King Jr weekend, we stayed in a mini suite with water view, spacious room and my daughter loved that our building had its own smaller pool and jacuzzi made it feel more quaint which was nicer for me who prefers not to be in a swimsuit in public so I enjoyed the fact that only 2 other guests were in the pool area with us!

Island Palms never disappoints. It's my favorite hotel in San Diego. It's also the best value. The location offers the opportunity to walk around Shelter Island and enjoy the views and art installations. We enjoyed seeing the osprey nest that has been built near the point. Two ospreys were in residence. What a treat. We also enjoyed the sound of barking seals in the harbor. Really what San Diego is all about.

The front desk staff members were nice and friendly. The hotel room was a good size. The beds were comfortable, plenty of desk area and the bathroom had plenty of counter space. The negatives were the fact that the room was a bit dark – they need better lighting. The room and hallway looked a bit worn out, could use new carpets, but not bad. (Probably the lighting was not that great, so one wouldn't notice the little issues.) The location was nice, with ocean in the front and the marina in the back. There were 2 pools and a sauna with views of the marina. In spite of the minor negatives, I would stay here again.

We enjoyed the hotel, it is in a beautiful location right by the marina and the bay. The staff was great both for check-in and at the restaurant for breakfast. Plus it is close to the airport which made it easy to return the rental car.

I stayed here for two nights - one on each side of a flight to Hawaii. For my first stay, I arrived about 4 hours before normal check-in, but Clinton at the front desk found me a room and checked me in early, which I greatly appreciated because it had been a long day of travel. I had a great room facing the marina in back of the property. It had a nice little patio and there was a walkway to the marina, pool, and hotel restaurant. The grounds are lovely and extremely well-maintained. My room was really cozy and smelled really clean when I walked in. The bed and pillows were a dream to sleep on. All of the staff that I had contact with were great! This property is across the street from a lovely park that seems popular with the locals. Very close to a naval training station, so the military aircraft flying around was pretty interesting. I felt safe as a female solo traveler.

We like staying on Shelter Island because of the location. It is quiet, seems more like a neighborhood than a resort area and really convenient to get to other areas in San Diego. And San Diego Bay is right there. This hotel is nicer and a better value than other hotels in the area. The staff is friendly, professional and fast.

The room was clean and very nice, it has a balcony that let's you view the marina. Staff is very friendly. Theres a parking garage and tennis court. Across the street is a small park and beautiful views of the city. Parking is $25

What a find this elegant hotel is with easy access to outstanding restaurants in the scenic yacht area. It is clean, comfortable, quiet and secure. Places to walk and its peaceful ambiance is worth the stay,

There is a bay view and marina view. The bay view looks over the parking lot and road around Shelter Island, marina view has a nice walking path in front of the buildings. We had 3 rooms in the 100 building, all the same but just a tad tired. Loved that the windows opened for fresh air. Woke up to the fog horn at 6am, a pleasant surprise. Good place to stay on Shelter Island, bikes were available too.

Stayed here for two nights in June 2022. Great spot to stay! Clean, beautiful views of marina or views of the Navy base just across the water! Would definitely stay here again! Only issue was one night loud banging at 2AM-4AM from either above or beside our room. It sounded like a washer /dryer running for hours.

This is a beautiful hotel with very clean guest rooms. The rooms have extremely comfortable beds, spotless bathrooms and good internet. The location is in a beautiful area and rooms have a small patio with a gorgeous view of the marina and the San Diego skyline. Great places to walk and excellent restaurants nearby.

I would definitely stay here again. The rooms was nice, the view was amazing. Did have few issues: Guests below us were smoking weed, and it filled out room with the smell. I had a headache all night and was mad. Called the front desk they said they would send security to investigate. I thought this is a smoke free location. They said it is, and they would be charged $350 for violating rules, I asked to speak to a mgr. not on duty. Went to front desk in AM talked to front desk no Mgr. on duty yet explained issues, I was credited for half my stay. Parking is $25 a day, that is ridiculous. No continental breakfast. Elevator was out of order all weekend, suddenly Monday AM working. Vending machines were stocked wrong, hit button for a red Gatorade and blue came out. If you don't like blue this is a problem.

The views of the harbor, multiple pools, and peaceful surroundings led to a relaxing and rejuvenating week-long stay. We held a training for 33 people on the site and the staff went above and beyond to make sure all our participants had what they needed. Maddie and Jaime are extremely supportive, communicative, and attentive to details.

This hotel is in a very nice location. We had a beautiful view outside of our hotel room door. We have stayed here several times and we always enjoy it the hotel property is beautiful. The rooms have everything you need to enjoy your weekend. We were celebrating my nieces birthday and this made it even more special than it was

The location was great. The staff was great. The room was only OK. Clean but dated and there was peeling paint on the bathroom door. There were areas on the wall that had been repaired and the repair was lumpy. They could have done a better job! The lobby looked clean but there was an old smell in the air. Needed Fabreeze!

Third or fourth time we've stayed here, great as always. We had a Queen Studio and our room had been refurbished since our last visit. Great view over the marina from the balcony and we didn't hear any noise from other guests though the hotel was quite busy.

The room was not cleaned well and the odor of mold was so strong that it smelled like a herd of cats had used it for a litter box. We were traveling the next day and stayed here due to its close proximity to the airport and the location looked lovely (it is) By the time we settled in, it was late, and we thought we could stand it for the night, so we didn't ask for a room change. just left as early as possible and killed time until our flight the next day. One of my worst hotel experiences ever.

Great visit. This Hotel so our go to place to stay when in San Diego. All the staaff we encountered were friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Highly recommend staying here. You won't be disappointed.

This is a nice quiet hotel with ocean views. However I had two issues that I will not be going back or recommending. I was charged twice 2 separate charges for room plus $200 deposit fee. Then when I went to check out they said my card didn't go through ( because they had already taken the money) they said I had to pay with credit card which I did. So for 3 days I was charged $1,616.14 in total. The manager told me in 10 days the reservation charges would be refunded. 13 days later still no refund. I called 2xs to management. They now told me I have to contact the card company. What a headache!! Let me throw in that the hotel restaurant is way overpriced for the quality of food. I ordered breakfast and the breakfast sausage tasted like one of those cheap microwaveable frozen food patties. This is a nice area on Shelter Island Drive I suggest looking into other hotels on this street. Good luck!

Danny and his fellow staff are outstanding. They go above and beyond because it's obvious they just want you to be happy and to enjoy your vacation. Unfortunately, I can say just the opposite for the staff in the rewards program. It is genuinely a group of, how does the expression go, corporate pinheads. I don't mean to be judgmental but I have never seen such a lack of common sense in my life. Again, my Kudos go to Danny and his fellow staff members for just having a positive attitude and willing to do what it takes. I've been coming to this establishment for over 10 years and I will continue unless the rewards program what's in somehow. When in SD with family we always choose Island Palms for the location and size of the suites. Location puts you close to all that SD has to offer. Views of the city, the bay & marina are great. Nice salt water pools & spas. The 2 bed suites in the older part of the hotel are great for families with a good sized living room, bedroom, deck, and a small kitchen with full sized fridge and electric stovetop. It is a great value when traveling with family.

We enjoyed a great 3 night stay. The hotel was full but was still quiet. We had a lovely view of the marina and enjoyed coffee on our li'l deck every morning after our morning walk. We were there for SDSU family weekend so used our rental car more than we would have liked but next time we look forward to enjoying the peace of the hotel and its amenities (like the pool) more.

The view is amazing. The right room will give the most amazing experience. Dany is the best, most caring, helpful person. We hope to see him become the manager one day. We love the marina side view. The blue wave has a tasty burger and the Monte Cristo was very good as well

Beautiful view. Walking distance to many places to eat. I would recommend the newer side of the hotel. The pools were nice. Nice bar & very pleasant bartender. Very convenient the bar to the lobby. The view to look at all the boats was amazing.

The room cleanliness was absolutely not acceptable. The first room was filthy, and didn't even look like it had been cleaned in I don't know how long, thus, we had to be moved. They did move us to a "better" location, and it was a nicer room, however, the carpet was so dirty that our feet were black. When was the last time the carpets were even cleaned.

I have stayed here numerous times over the years and its showing its age the room was dated and in need of updating, bathroom fixtures were broken and you could tell where the repairs were made instead of a replacement being made. Housekeeping is not thoroughly vacuuming, visible trash under the chairs in the room. when I asked for a different room I was told none were available but given the option to cancel my reservation without penalty, but where was i supposed to get a room in San Diego on a Friday afternoon with no reservation? The logic of this offer was baffling. This stay was very disappointing.

On the nightstands, in the bed- even made their way into my suitcase (kept off the floor). We told the manager but he didn't care. He didn't ask which room or any questions, as if this were a normal occurrence. We also pointed out the huge gap under the door to the outside that let water and whatever else inside the room. Again- no concern on management's part.

The view from the balcony was amazing, from sunset to sunrise! The bed was comfortable and my stay was great. I tried to book an extra night but they were fully booked, I see why lol. The location of the hotel was literally right across the street from the first attraction I booked which was amazing. I walked right across the street and I was there. I didn't get a chance to enjoy the pool due to my short stay, but I'll definitely check it out next time.

We stayed here just one night to attend a concert and it exceeded our expectations. A wonderful hotel with beautiful surroundings. Two beautiful pools and hot tubs overlooking the Marina. Close to downtown and other San Diego attractions, but tucked away in a peaceful, quiet location.

Was surprised when we checked in there is a daily fee of 18.00 a night for parking, also thought the plus was continental breakfast not so it's a Resturant you pay for breakfast. The room was nice with a view of the marina

I was Checked in By Alec at the front Desk. He was so nice and helpful and he surprised us with a beautiful Room. It was my first time at this Hotel and he really made are stay the best. I was so surprised by the upgraded rooms overlooking the Harbor. The location was so fun, right across the street from the pier. There should be more people like Alec working in hospitality. He was very pleasant at check in. We did appreciate the Hotel having the restaurant on site as well. I love the tiki torches! Keep up the great service ! We will be back for sure! Bad experience this stay on Labor Day weekend, power went out Friday and Saturday. Also original price I was quoted for rebooking on Labor Day weekend was not honored. Although service was great, no apologies, no coupons for future stays, nothing was offered for the inconvenience of no power on and off for the Labor Day weekend.

Pretty nice place still for its age. Our room was lovely with a balcony overlooking the marina. Shower head was broken and once we called about, it was replaced immediately. Room was clean had had coffee maker, small refrigerator and a microwave. Location was awesome. The lady at the front who checked us in was not welcoming at all.. bad start. But, the tall, dark-haired manager was super friendly and accommodating. You can't beat the view of the bay... One tip I have is to not waste your money on parking. We parked across the street every night which ended up being closer to our room than the parking lot at the far end of the hotel. Overall, very satisfied.

The front desk is helpful and friendly. The hotel is in a good location. The rooms are well equipped and very clean. The suite is particularly nice and comes with a full kitchen. My only gripe would be the $25 parking fee.

We had to wait for our room past check-in time. The rooms are nice and large, but could be cleaned better, especially the bed linens. Pillows are awful. Ice machine didn't work, parking is extremely limited and they need more luggage carts. We had one breakfast at the hotel restaurant which could have been much better. The oatmeal I had was the consistency of soup. We also ordered sandwiches to go for our sailing trip on The America, but they were soggy and they didn't follow our request regarding no condiments. Nice to have water on both sides of the hotel. We stayed in the Casa Del Mar building which has an elevator. Both pools are very small.

The hotel location and rooms were wonderful. The Blue Wave restaurant was great for lunch, happy hour and dinner. The restaurant staff were so friendly and helpful. The food was very good too. It's the most upscale Best Western I've stayed in. I'll be back.

The awesome king patio suite was spacious with a full kitchen, living room and separate bedroom. Vaulted ceilings and plantation shutters with lots of windows overlooking the marina. The private patio included two loungers and patio table with beautiful views of the marina. So relaxing and scenic. Wall air conditioning unit in the bedroom was a little noisy at night but wasn't bad. Overall we enjoyed our stay and will definitely return here.

Hotel is in a great location on the island and not a bad hotel. The room was a bit cramped with bulky furniture, which left almost no room for luggage to be anywhere. Bathroom was decent. Shower head was small and did not produce a decent spray. Mattress was way too firm for a comfy night sleep, but as a regular traveler, i've learned to suck it up. Cleaning staff only delivered clean towels during stay, and did not enter room every day, never refilled coffee or condiments.

I absolutely loved staying at the Best Western Island Palms Hotel on Shelter Island for the last four nights. There is so much to recommend it, I barely know where to begin. The location itself was gorgeous. Shelter Island is a strip of land (not really an island) jutting into San Diego's "Big Bay," with a view of the opening to the ocean on one side and a harbor of yachts on the other. At one tip of the island to the Southwest there were some big sea lions lounging about and occasionally jousting with each other. A short and beautiful walk up Shelter Island Drive takes you to a number of restaurants and coffee providers. The island is positioned such that you can get beautiful views of both the sunrise and the sunset, and I enjoyed both during my stay. It's a quick drive from there to Downtown, Coronado Island, Mission Bay, or even La Jolla, so as a jumping off place alone I'd recommend it. (By the way, I saw dolphins off Mission Beach and separately, off Coronado! Keep your eyes peeled - they're off the Pacific Coast all summer long.) There's a long strip of grass on the Big Bay side of the island with a paved walkway that lets you stroll the entire length of the island. There are a few sculptures - all beautiful - to explore here, and great picnicking areas as well. There are plenty of benches if you want to just sit and take in the bay as well. The Best Western Island Palms Hotel had that mysterious element - "charm" - that is missing from so many modern properties. Rather than a tall tower of cookie cutter rooms, this was a two-story property (and one-story in spots, such as where I stayed). Some of the units had patios or balconies, and nearly all had views of the water in one direction or another. There were two pools and two Jacuzzis. The pool nearest me had a rounded, asymmetrical shape that I found appealing. Both Jacuzzis were round and small, but big enough for several people, and the other pool was long and rectangular, with a fireplace (gas) at the end that was lit at night. I thought I could gather with other people there, but one family took it over and ignored anyone else who tried to sit nearby. I had a room right off the pool, and when I opened the door to enter the room for the first time, I was thrilled by its loveliness. The room had two queen beds under a slanted ceiling with wooden beams, a remarkably quiet air conditioner, and a ceiling fan if you wanted to cool off more quickly. The rooms had large plantation shutters, that I could open or close at will. The bathroom was truly beautiful - a dark reddish-brown polished granite graced the shower and sink area. There was no tub - just a shower - which was all I planned to use anyway. In the bedroom area, The HD TV sat on a long cabinet that served as a desk at one end and housed open shelves at the other, with just enough drawer space for my clothes and a much-used refrigerator for small food and beverage items. There was also a microwave, but I talked myself out of microwave popcorn and didn't use it. One minor annoyance: the room I was in was better suited to a King bed, because with two queens, it was a squeeze to get to the closet or the shutters on the window. But this was minor. One other note: I found a large, furry caterpillar on my wall there the last day. It didn't appear to be harmful, so I let it be. That was the only bug I saw in the room, thank goodness! Right outside my door was the gate to one of the two pools on the property. This curved pool had a truly "deep" end (8') as well as a shallow end. The pool was comfortably warm, as was the nighttime weather, so I swam one night until nearly 11 pm, the closing time for the pool (it opens at 8am, for those who enjoy an early dip). Just outside the pool were bicycles for rent (free to hotel guests), but I saw a father and son having some frustration with the phone app that made the bikes available. I didn't try it, but I saw many were missing during the day and back at night, so clearly people figured out how to get them that to work. There is a restaurant on the property, the Blue Wave Bar and Grille, that had killer fish and chips - the fries were as delicious as the freshly breaded cod. It was a little pricey, but I didn't mind because it was so tasty. I had a burger there that was not cooked to my specification (I asked for medium rare and it was well done) and was messy as heck to eat. I'd recommend skipping that, unless well-done and messy is your jam! The drinks were reasonably priced for the area. I loved the blood orange margarita and the pina colada (which you could order with an extra float of rum, if you wanted). Both came from pre-made slush mixes and were delicious! But it was really the people that worked on this property that made my stay fun and memorable. The man who checked me in gave me a choice of rooms but suggested the one near the pool and restaurant, and it was a good choice, as that's where I spent most of my time when I was not off exploring San Diego. All the waitresses at the restaurant were kind and solicitous (I didn't complain to them about the burger, btw). I never tried the coffee at the restaurant because there was free coffee in my room. The view from the restaurant deck of the marina was just wonderful. On Thursday night, a fire dancer performed at the main pool - two 15 minutes shows, 45 minutes apart. Before the show, people were handed Styrofoam-covered light sticks with three patterns. Between shows, I gave mine to a kid who had missed getting one. He was so happy - that made my day! Also between shows, the manager talked to me, and I expressed my pleasure at the place and the people. My only criticism, I told him, was that I should have been able to order food and a drink from my pool seat and not had to walk up to the restaurant. He said they had done that recently but were short staffed that week. I know personally I would have eaten more had that been available, so maybe it was good that it wasn't! ;-) But the manager then personally delivered to me, poolside, a pina colada, gratis, which was a super kind gesture! It was clear that the guest came first at this property, a practice sorely missing at most properties these days. You can't go wrong with a stay here, and it works for older singles (like me) or younger people with large families (like many of the other guests I interacted with). I can't wait to book a trip there next year. I don't usually return to a place I've been before unless there's a compelling reason. But there are a several reasons to return to this place. I just hope the same manager and staff are there when I return!

I'm disappointed in our 7 nights stay, our room smell and had dog hair everywhere...Not unagainst pets ....but for people like me that is allergic to cats and dogs its a big deal.....front desk try to move us to a room that we didn't want Because it smell like pets! We asked if they vacuum the room again MIKE was very kind and did his best but the room still smell and had dog hair. NEATNESS to say my husband didn't want me to complaint anymore so instead I suffer 7 nights of allergies......they never asked or even offer to mover us .....we paid over 2000 to stay I felt they should've had accommodated us.... Not to mentioned the view On the second floor a big Palm tree block the view of our room also......and if your going to have CUSHIONS should make sure THEY'RE AVAILABLE TO ALL ROOMS!

My wife was skeptical about staying at a Best Western. She thinks they're "budget hotels" and in the same category as some other 3 star lodging choices. That may have been the case in the past, but BW has completely turned things around the last decade or so. This place was great!! The grounds were manicured and clean, the rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff was friendly and helpful.

The hotel is right in the middle of Harbor Island. Super location. We visited the bar each night before going out to dinner and Jeff made some of the best Old Fashioned drinks we have ever had. My wife's martinis were perfect - Hats off to Jeff. We booked a room with 2 queen bedsw - and that is about all that can fit in the room. Seriously there was 10 inches of space between the edge of the bed and the closet doors. The room was very cramped and while the sheets and pillows were very comfortable, the mattress was worn down on one side and you could feel it slant down from left to right.

We've been coming to this hotel for years, through the pandemic this hotel has proven that it's worth it. We try to visit at least 3 times a year. The pool is wonderful, the beach is right across the street and the staff never disappoints. After a few months away we finally returned, the experience was amazing! They had fire dancing! My kids loved it. The staff handled out lights for the kids and we enjoyed. As we walked backed to our rooms we enjoyed cornhole and jenga. The dinner was amazing! This truly is a hidden gem!!!! Thank you Leidy for a great experience!!!!

We were originally booked at a place across the bay, and we were very unhappy. Looked this place up last minute on Trip Advisor, so glad we did, and that they had a room for 2 nights. Even though this is not on the beach the water views are amazing. If you are on the Marina side the views of the Marina are beautiful. We would like to stay again, and stay on the first floor at Casa Del Mar by the pool, great view and easy access to everything. Do not compare this place to a Best Western, this is nothing like you see. This place had 2 pools, a walking trail along the Marina and there is a walking trail in the front as well along the water too. It has great view of San Diego during the day and at night, absolutely stunning. We stayed in a 2 queen bed room. Many extras here, within walking distance to restaurants and a amphitheater where they had a concert both nights we were there. We are actually thinking about coming back to stay here. You can save a bit of money vs staying right on the beach, and honestly we'd come back to visit the culture and activities. Great value too.

This is our favorite hotel in the San Diego area! Wonderful staff and a wonderful full service hotel in a beautiful setting! This is a perfect choice for couples, family or even if you're traveling for business!

If you want to relax and get away this is the place. Love to sit on the balcony and drink my morning coffee or drinks and watch the boats go by or watch the sunset over the marina. The check in and check out is very easy and there is a restaurant on site.

Price is expensive your paying for the location and view from the rooms facing Marina, if facing the front the hotel is no big deal other than you can walk across to the water but isn't a beach to hang out and lay out, more for fishing off the dock.

Overall this hotel is in a great location, we have stayed here a couple of times and do plan on a return visit. It is a nice getaway for a couple and lots of restaurants and activities nearby. There is plenty of things to do and see in the surrounding areas and is also a nice place to just stay and relax and have a couples time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It is also a great option for families to have a base camp for all of their San Diego excursions.

This is a perfect setting for relaxation, quiet, and ease of access to Point Loma, Ocean Beach, Airport, Old Town, Downtown, Balboa Park (15-18 min by car or uber/lyft), Sea World. There's walking, bicycling, relaxing by pool, hot tub, relaxing in room (marina view), great breeze, open windows with island feel, didn't move my car the entire 6 days. Lots of lovely people walking the area (often with their dogs) throughout the day and evenings, quiet, safe. Beautiful boats in the marina, Sea World fireworks at night. The restaurant in hotel by the pool is very good and reasonable $ - Both Pools and both hot tubs were well maintained and a pleasure. I had a corner suite in the Del Mar - upper floor - Room 510 (because I wanted to try out a suite for a future trip) - but I took a look at the double rooms overlooking the marina and they looked great - just perfect. If you're a fan of the non-elevator, non-high-rise experience when you're in San Diego, this is a terrific choice. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and made our stay fabulous.

We recently stayed at this property for a short Summer family getaway. We normally stay in Downtown San Diego and discovered this property on Shelter Island and decided to give it a try. Best decision ever! Shelter Island is a beautifully tucked away location and this property sits right in the marina with beautiful views throughout. Although the property seems to be a bit older than newer properties in downtown, its well kept and you can't beat the location and views. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating which was nice. We look forward to our next visit very soon

A great getaway! Has everything you need so you don't need to drive your car. We had a lovely room with a balcony overlooking the marina. We took walks everyday. The hotel restaurant did take out as well as in person dining and it was delicious. We recommend the fish tacos! This was our 2nd visit and we definitely plan to return.

We love this place and when checking in the room wasn't what we wanted so Danny in the front desk found us a better room which made our day. Then my husband having some medical issues had to fly home - I stayed as we rented a home for our family vacation and they were coming down. In the morning when I went for breakfast- Robin - my waitperson was so kind and understanding when I told her what happened. She checked in with me often and it really helped reduce my stress. Great staff- great location - so don't hesitate to book!!

Only stayed one night but it was delightful relaxing pleasant tranquil enjoyed walking along the harbor we enjoyed the beach atmosphere and the entire experience was quite delightful. This was our second stay at the best Western shelter Island and we have another state scheduled for the end of this month. I am certain we will be back frequently.

We were only here for two nights, but it was wonderful. We were walking distance to many restaurants. The Park and walking trail at Shelter Island was wonderful. Old Town was just a few minutes away. Laid out on the beach at Shelter Island. Didn't want to be around crowded beaches so this fit the bill. I would stay here again.

Very comfortable beds and pillows. As a woman travelling alone, I stayed in Casa Marina and felt very comfortable and safe in an indoor setting. Beautiful location between the marina and the bay. The breakfast menu was excellent.

Stay was good. Had a nice time and the view was good also. I was a bit disappointed with the carpet cleanliness. The room size was ok, I was expecting a little bit more. Staff was good. Had a complain regarding the sliding mess door. It was falling down when ever we open or close it, reported that but was not fixed. That didn't really matter much but from a service point of view did not expect that. During checkout we mentioned that again and person at front desk mentioned he will look into it and get it fixed and I guess because of that the parking fees was waved for me, which was very nice of them. Felt a little of over priced for the room. But over all it was a nice and happy stay.

Very good location and beautiful view from room on the marina. Room nevertheless was old and the in-room breakfast was never received. Housekeeping on request only. They did however empty bins almost daily and we always had more than enough towels.

My family of 5 (4 adults, 1 young teen) stayed 2-nights at the end of a week long vacation to CA. We needed 2 rooms and at booking we knew that they'd be in different buildings, but with 2 adult kids in one of those that wasn't an issue. At check in I was told that our rooms were close to each other, which they were, but they were both 1st floor of motel style buildings so the doors were right along sidewalk and anyone walking by can see directly into rooms if blinds aren't closed. Worse was that these rooms do not match any of the pictures online and are very small. There was hardly enough space to open the door without hitting the first bed, the second bed is so close to the closet that it is difficult to use the closet, and there is barely enough space to lay a large suitcase flat to open it. In contrast to this, the bathroom is quite large with beautiful title, but there is a lot of wasted space. One of the light switches didn't work to operate the fan and lights over the shower and toilet, but I didn't want maintenance coming in during our short stay, and I expected housekeeping to have reported this already. The A/C unit ran constantly, and although blowing very cold air, it struggled to keep the room at a comfortable temp. Also the window blinds are wooden slats so they don't completely block out the sun in the morning. We had no issue finding parking spots in front of our building when we returned at night, the hotel was a short drive from everything we wanted to do in San Diego, and the restaurant hostess was extremely helpful on an evening when we had to eat quick to get back to the zoo before it closed. If we're ever vacationing in SD again, I might consider staying here again but that would only be if I could be sure I was getting rooms that look like the ones on the website.

BUYER BEWARE - absolute unethical scam property in my opinion and experience. We were here for the "big bay boom" 4th of July event. We drove 10 hours to be here. We booked our ~$600/night (+additional $25/night parking) suite well in advance. The Best Western booking site at the time offered just TWO OPTIONS for your paid choice of view, those were: the premium "Water view" (facing bay and fireworks) and lesser "Marina View" (facing a parking lot of boats). The huge firework display is on the bay side so of course we purposely booked the premium "water view" side instead of the marina side where there is no balcony fireworks show. When checking in, they switched the room and instead gave us a "Marina View" side suite without informing us of any issues. When we walked to our room we were of course surprised to see that our view was the parking lot of boats (marina side). This was not what we reserved, and not what we paid for. The staff admitted other guests had this same "problem" (bait-and-switch?). The staff attempted to propose that "water view" can mean either side. Keep in mind this is shelter ISLAND - so it's all water view - AND the water view side has a price premium over the marina side. The site manager, Nawaf, offered through his lobby attendant (at first he would not come to lobby) to compensate just $25 - the daily parking fee. This is laughable and it's very unfair to the front staff to put them in that position to relay these types of messages to customers in this situation - so I asked to speak to the manager directly. He (Nawaf) came out to the lobby and then offered $100+tax in addition to the $25 parking. I refused because IMO this is a clear bait and switch and they may have oversold rooms or sold my room for more to someone else for more hoping that I wouldn't complain when they pulled their "water view can be either side" scam. For that reason, I would absolutely advise all who read this to pick a different location. If we knew we wouldn't have the room we reserved, then we wouldn't have selected this location for our 4th of July vacation. We would have selected one of the dozen other options we were looking at for this event like Bay Club. It's really a shame that this has to be my initial experience and resulting review of the property. I will be posting the same review in comments section of YouTube reviews that suggested we stay here as well, since the (paid? comped?) Youtube reviews are what influenced us to choose this property over others.

We always come to San Diego for the 4th, this was our 1st time staying here and we absolutely loved it. Rooms are very spacious and clean, the view was great and the breakfast at the restaurant on site was delicious and wonderful. We will definitely be staying here on our next trip to San Diego!!!

$25 to park in addition to the already expensive overpriced small room. When you open the door it runs the corner of the bed it is so close. The room is EXTREMELY small and very hot when we checked in ar 1230 in the morning just to get a little sleep before heading back out.

This is a very beautiful, clean, well kept hotel across the street from the water. The rooms are well cleaned and the coffee maker is well stocked. I've always had great experiences with Best Western & this 1 exceeded my expectations. I HIGHLY recommend this Best Western for your stay.

The room was clean, well laid out. Very quiet at night. Nice view of the harbor. Conveniently located - we were able to walk to several restaurants during our stay. No complaints about the room. When it was time to fly home the hotel was a 12 minute Uber ride to San Diego International Airport (even with traffic).

I would go back in a moment, didn't want to leave and well be back. Views were wonderful, I would stay on the Marina side next time. The room we stayed in had an extension that blocked 1/2 our view, which I didn't like. Make sure you ask for a full view room if you want a water view.

This is the 2nd time we've stayed here. The view of the marina is really nice. It's clean and comfortable. The service is very good. The location is great because it's away from the touristy hotels on hotel circle. Overall, it's a great place to stay.

This location could be so much more. The room was dirty. Earring in shower found by my child, scrunch with hair onto of the lamp, trash and dirt in the pull out sofa. Our feet were lack after walking around in the room for a few mins. Light comes in at sunrise... no sleep .. loud! Doors slamming, dumpster bins banging, parking is terrible... and they charge. Don't recommend end

Better than the pictures on their website imply. Far from the hustle and bustle of hotels near convention center but with easy access to all the sites and activities in SanDiego! Convenient parking, relaxing pools, nice patio for outdoor dining and beverages.

It was very nice hotel in location and view and clean and i thinking to back there with my family in the future the staff there was friendly and the area was very quiet and safe I saw the security around there which very important to put security for any hotel so the residents will feel more safe just I think it's not need to put more parking fees

I will be back ,overall good stay my kids were happy . The rooms are clean, a little outdated ,very 80's but still nice . Some of the channels on cable did not work . They could have better toiletries their shampoo conditioner was horrible but we made it work . The views are amazing worth the stay very peaceful and relaxing

My hubby and I stayed for 2 nights at this lovely hotel in May. Clinton at the front desk checked us in and was really nice and friendly. The room was very clean. We had a cute balcony where we sat and watched the boats sail by. This was our first time staying there and it will not be our last. We loved this hotel and it's location on Shelter Island. Yes, it is an older hotel, but it's quaint and has charm. It was sufficient for a weekend getaway for my hubby and I. We were very pleased with our stay.

Don't let them check you into Bldg "A" as the critters are on the floors, bed, in drawers, bathroom... The floors, shower and area outside of my room weren't cleaned adequately prior to my check-in with garbage in the garden area and someone's old drink left on an air conditioner

I love this hotel! Great location - in close proximity to some of the major attractions in San Diego. Nice view anywhere we looked. Guest Services was efficient too. Whenever we asked for something, we got them within a reasonable time. Our suite was also very spacious, perfect size and layout.

We stay here every year to visit family while attending training sessions and have never had a complaint about anything to do with this property, rooms clean, well appointed and lovely views. Walking paths along the marina side and walkway, grass and sandy beach, fishing pier across the street. Can watch both navy and cruise line ships as well as sailboats and jets leaving North Island Naval Air station. Fun yet pool and saunas for relaxing

Parking $18. If you get back late no parking spots, then have to park across street public parking. Homeless there. They say no dogs, not true they are everywhere, left in room barking all hours. Light switches in room that control nothing. No one cleans room , staying 5 nights had to call for cleaning , towels, toilet paper etc

Unbeatable location and helpful staff. Nice grounds and amenities. Our room was badly in need of a refresh. Peeling wallpaper, sticking shower door, and sagging worn-out mattress. Included a kitchenette, which was quite handy, but missing some needed drinkware/dinnerware.

WE have stayed here several times, but for odd reasons we booked at the Dana across town, that really did not work out on this trip, so we checked out the BW Island Palms to switch rooms. They were super friendly and showed us a nice suite with a partial view of the bay. The Dana was kind enough to let us out of the rest of our reservation and we had a wonderful time at a nice accessible suite at the BW Island Palms. Room was great, house keeping was nice, restaurant was good, they have a DIY laundry room. A great time overall.

The pros: bed was super comfortable, location was great, restaurant on site had good food and friendly staff, property was safe and well landscaped. Cons: our room was dark, poor lighting, main pool was small and very few lounge chairs we couldn't use that pool, in general not much pool space. 2nd pool on site down the path had more chairs. Overall I might stay again if I had a better brighter room.

The room was small - to be expected in an older property, but still not a good thing. Worse, since we booked through TripAdvisor Plus, we were placed in a room facing the street on the ground floor. The property staff mentioned that 'since we had booked through a third party', they were doing this. No information was available prior to our arrival about the $18 parking charge (either on TripAdvisor or the BW website), but that's not much of a surprise when dealing with properties like this. The ice machines are well hidden, even though the soft drink vending machines are well marked - ice being free and drinks costing money, I believe. Desk staff were slow at check-in, though polite (other than the mild scolding about not booking direct). Parking stalls are designed for compact cars, and our SUV barely fit. The tissue dispenser in the room was empty and no replacement box was to be found. Fresh paint was in evidence, but the painters hadn't properly stripped or sanded the walls, leaving peeling paint beneath the new. There's no 'plus' to this Best Western, other than its location.

Visited in May 2022 with a large family group. The hotel was clean and rooms seem to have been recently renovated. At the time there was no cleaning service, but they were very attentive bringing towels as needed. Great views, but not a lot nearby.

We had stayed here based on our timeshare trade. We were told that we would have a nice room and king size bed when I called 2 weeks in advance to . Well, we got the king size bed (very comfy by the way) but our room had broken window shutters, tv did not work, we were looking at the parking lot, was just run down, and helicopter noise all day/night due to Navy Seal training across the street. We asked to be moved but was told they were booked til the weekend. They would contact us Sat if they had another room. A day before we were to checkout, and we never were called to switch rooms, we were told the hotel showed that no one was in our room and we had to go downstairs NOW to give them a credit card. So we go downstairs, give them the timeshare information with receipt and let them know were were unhappy anyway but were leaving the next day. About an hr later, they found "us" in another room. They gave the room we were to switch to, to someone else!!!! I asked for a receipt and she accidently printed a receipt showing what the 7 day cost was and it was LESS than what we paid. We got NO refund from them, no comp, no nothing for them giving our room away. We do not recommend this hotel. We plan on visiting San Diego again but will never stay here again or at any Best Western Hotel. When I got home, I called Best Western Corporate who blew it off.

The Front Office Manager had a "I Cant" attitude. I had asked for early checking and when we arrived at 2:30PM we were told by the FOM that the room was still being clead and it should only be a few minutes. That was not a problem. We walke around the hotel to look around and when we went by our future room we noticed that it was clean. We went back to the front desk at 3:25PM and asked if we could gain access. He told us that the room was still out of service. Turns out that they were holding us up so they could show the room to a prospective event client and that they needed to wait until they got the all clear from the banquet manger before they could release the room. Turns out the room was shown over an hour earlier and that there was not hold on the room. The FOM failed to communicate with his staff which caused us to wait for no reason. I am currently the Director of IT for a company which has a Portfolio of 8 Embassy Suites and 2 Marriott hotels. In the 10 years of my association I have never seen less communication with staff then what I saw this past weeken. This was not Hospitality deserving of your hotel. These are my thoughts.

We have stayed on Shelter Island previously (at Humphreys) and decided to try Island Palms this time. The front desk was extremely helpful with making sure we had the correct room (even gave us an upgrade) as well as nearby recommendations. The room in the Casa Del Mar building was clean and comfortable and the view to the marina was fantastic from the rooms as well as balcony. I would easily recommend the hotel as well as return again.

This hotel has beautiful rooms close to all the restaurants. The setting and views of the Marina are wonderful and it's off the main road so it feels more relaxing. I will stay at the hotel again. The front desk is amazing and very helpful!!

Danny at the front desk makes this marina property our go to in San Diego. Always helpful and accommodating. Centrally located on Shelter Island and the ground well maintained. Blue Wave restaurant on property always delicious with a great patio overlooking the marina.

I was verry pleased with the lady that checked me in this time Adriana.I come here every month and this time she called the room when I arrived to make sure everything was ok.She was super friendly and nice . I have catered over 300 weddings in my life. An I have to admit, mine was my favorite! After re-planning our wedding 4 times due to COVID, we finally made it happen and at the perfect place. Best Wester Island Palms Shelter Island! To say that the bride had absolutely ZERO stress about the event would be a lie, however anything the hotel could do to alleviate anything, they did and exceeded expectations. Everything from them was spot on! The room was beautiful without the overkill of flowers. Some simple orchids was all i added. Brides everywhere, if you want a relaxing wedding call Madison at the BW! I cannot say enough about the food and service. I never went for a tasting, my bridesmaids and I had stumbled upon the hotel for my bachelorette weekend and had the Salmon and Short Ribs, they were amazing, so dinner was picked. Which reminds me all of this was planned after August! A December wedding is tough, sometimes there is rain. The inside backup plan was beautiful. I had bought some simple fabric, they had an arbor left from a previous wedding and there we had it. Of course it did not rain and we were able to get fabulous pictures outside! There are a few important things at a wedding. Is the food hot? Are the drinks cold? Are there smiles on everyone's faces? We had all of that and more. Madison Bear, you MADE my day so simply perfect. I never want to stay anywhere else. Between, Danny, Theresa, Summer, The chef I never met (usually you do as the bride but it was all perfect I did not have to), and so many more I cannot remember your names at the moment. I am very sorry. But I will see you soon!!

We checked in and when we got to our room (2nd floor) we had a Marina view. We called the front desk and they moved us to our Water view room we booked. No problem at all just a little mix up. The room was clean and very comfortable. When you open the door to the balcony with the breeze from the ocean was amazing! We enjoyed having the opportunity to be able to sit outside on the balcony with the cool breeze. The swimming pool area was great and they keep the water about 80degrees. I do know they offer beach bikes but we did not use them. The property was very clean and staff was friendly. I do have a small complaint though. Our room was a two bed with plenty of room the bathroom was also big, but we had a walk in shower and there wasn't any place to put your shampoo/body wash except on the shower floor. I wish they would provide some type of shelving unit or small wood bench so your not always having to bend down. Other than that our stay was very pleasant and quiet. If your looking for a quieter place (hotel) instead of in town this would be one of those places. Only 15min away from USS Midway, Mission Beach, Liberty Station. There will always be ups and downs of places people stay at which I get. I recommend Island Palms Hotel & Marina. Also there is and $18 a night for your vehicle. I know some people just park across the street. Enjoy!!

I've stayed at The Bay Club and Humphrey's before and enjoyed both. Always wanted to try The Island Palms and finally got around to it. Check in experience was okay. The staff was efficient though not especially warm. Nothing bad but didn't especially impress me either. I stayed in room 418 in the Casa Del Mar building. It was a spacious studio suite or mini-suite with two queen beds, a kitchenette with a full size refrigerator, and a bathroom with some pretty blue tile. There was a back door that opened to a patio sitting area and beautiful view of the marina. It's also close to the pool, which means it could get a little on a warm summer day. Since it was April, though, there wasn't that much activity. The room was very clean and well maintained. The decor could use a little more character. It's a bit generic but not that big a deal. Still a really nice room. This is a huge property with three different buildings, a restaurant, a garden area, and a walking path by the marina. I didn't try the restaurant, but I've noticed that it gets a lot of good reviews. I think I slightly prefer The Bay Club over Island Palms, but I would highly recommend both places, as well as Humphrey's. Now I just have to try Kona Kai.

Best Western Island Palms Hotel & Marina has been one of our favorite places to stay for many years. it is so relaxing to stay and walk around Shelter Island and enjoy the area and it is so close to many other wonderful sites in San Diego, CA

Impressive location, great views, nice neighborhood!!! The hotel is a bit old but clean and comfortable. Good Free WiFi, nice and friendly staff, great pool and tub area, nice bar and BBQ with great views. On the other hand, the telephone didn't worked, its VERY noisy, you can hear all your neighbors, cars and specially military planes and helicopters all the time. MY ROOM'S DOOR NEVER LOCKED EVEN THOUGH I TOLD THEM! Room 106 can be just pushed to be opened. The continental breakfast is VERY poor, 30 mins before closing there was no milk, no juice and no coffee!! Also the menu at the BBQ area and restaurant bar is VERY expensive considering the quality of the food.

If your looking to relax and unwind this is the perfect place for it. From the rooms to the grounds and pools everything is here for you. It's a short drive to downtown or all of the other many attractions in S.D.. On the other hand I would like to keep this Hotel to myself and family so stay somewhere else. LOL.

We booked this place through RCI to celebrate our 25 year wedding anniversary and were horribly disappointed. The king bed was very hard and uncomfortable and the sound barriers are nonexistent. We could hear everything our upstairs neighbors were doing. It sounded like they were training elephants to jump off the bed and it went on late into the night then again at 4am. We complained to the office several times and heard nothing but excuses. We were also told this was a king with a view but all we had a view of was the parking lot and garbage cans. The room was also by the entry to the building. So every time someone went in or out we knew about it. We probably won't be back to San Diego for a while but we will never be back to this place.

Clean, bright and airy rooms. Quiet comfortable hotel with marina and water views available. Ask for the Casa Marina building which is the newest and has an adjacent parking structure. Casa del Mar also offers delightful marina views (and a small pool with romantic fireplace seating), but is older and a little musty smelling. Great sidewalks for walking or jogging. Nesting osprey with young in April 2022.

I am a fan of BW Plus hotels and this one did not disappoint. Great location along the Marina and across from downtown and the ship channel. Nice restaurant and bar in the main building. If you sail this is the place to be. Only nit is the walls were a bit thin (at least in our room) .

Made a reservation with a king bed and marina view, Got stuck in a room that was dirty, the shower didn't work, the phone didn't work I had to walk to the front desk in the rain. The remote didn't work correctly. I am a Diamond Select Best Western member but at this hotel this means nothing. If you decide to stay at this hotel, make sure you call to be sure you're are guaranteed you are going to get the room you requested. Because this hotel doesn't pre assign rooms for Best Western members

location on Shelter island was terrific. Bikes are available for free. Pools are lovely. Res't by the pool is very good, so are the drinks! We stayed in a large Casa de Mars condo on the third floor with a wonderful view of the fishing pier and bay. Do not get a 1st floor room: no view. Will come back next march for sure!

Our family of three stayed here (first time) in March 2022. Got a suite so that adults could be separate from child. The Pros: --very nice room, spacious and comfortable. --wooden blinds kept most light out while sleeping --two bathrooms in the 1 bedroom suite --quiet!! --Lovely private patio --Blue Wave restaurant was delicious and the hostess in the mornings (Maria, I think) was so helpful and friendly --All staff we encountered were very accomodating. --Gorgeous property overall, with great views and foliage everywhere. --Although the hotel is not new or newly renovated as far as we could tell, it was overall very clean and in good shape (from what we saw) --Lovely walkway along the marina between the buildings --AC & fans worked well in our experience --Live music on the weekend was great at the restaurant! The "could be improved": --Upon late check in, the kitchenette trash contained previous guests' garbage, including multiple wine and beer bottles. --There were sheets for the pull-out sofa, but no blankets or pillows. --We arrived after 11 pm and had crossed a few time zones.. housekeeping was knocking the next morning before 9. (No D-N-D sign was provided.) When I asked if they could come back later (in an hour or so), they seemed put-off and then did not come back at all... for the rest of the stay (6 days). So we started our stay with a full trash can and one towel per person and it stayed that way. We ran out of kleenex the last day, and were getting low on TP. They did knock on the door the very last day of our stay right before we checked out, so I guess they did eventually remember us! (Had we stayed longer, I'd have called the desk to ask about this - but wasn't a huge deal.) --Main pool was closed for a few days during our stay (only small pool was open and it was packed each time we saw it). --Restaurant did not have muffins or pastries half of the days we inquired --- though they were on the regular menu. --Shower was on an adjustable rail, with max height very low (great for a person 5' or so but not much taller). Ours would spray out into the bathroom no matter what we did. We found we had to hold the sprayer while showering to avoid making a mess. (It shot me in the face the first morning - what a wake-up call!) Overall, very nice experience for our first family trip to S.D. We would stay here again in the future.

We stay here about every 4 months. This visit was great as usual. Teresa, Stacey, and Shawn were excellent as they always are. The only issues were the hot tub in the Casa Del Mar pool was overloaded with chemicals and for some crazy reason the Clam Chowder was taken off the menu. This was one of the better offerings. Besides that it was our usual excellent visit. Please put the Chowder back on the menu.

Overall we had a great view from our room. This location was quiet. The only issue we had was the A/C unit was old with the thermostat located on the outside of the unit. I will be going back to this location again and I do recommend this hotel

Needs some renovation. Overall, clean property with friendly staff. Parking is limited but there is public parking across the street. Nice views of the bay. Good value for the money. We arrived late and our room was taken so they gave us a better one and comped the parking!

Had a great time.. this hotel has a great location, close to attractions. Beautiful views of the bay and marina. It was great to be able to wind down and fish off the pier. The room was clean and very nice. Very friendly staff.

.I have been staying at this property since 1981 and consider it the only place to stay when in San Diego. Couple the Island Palms with Point Loma Seafood Grotto around the corner and you have a trip to tell your friends about.

First off, the room was not ready when it was time for check in, had to wait for over an hour. When we did get the room, it was hard to open and close the door, gap under door as well. Beds were comfy, bathroom ok. I've stayed here before several years and it wasn't in bad shape.

We decided to take a stop in San Diego and received an email from Best Western highlighting the BW Island Palms location…so we decided to try it. It was a perfect peaceful location. We had a very private Marina view room. We enjoyed to hotel Blue Wave restaurant and several other walkable restaurants nearby during our stay. Walking along the Marina and across the street to the bay was a perfect vacation surprise. We'll definitely be back.

Start off this is wonderful location and our military discount was good. We booked 4 nights and are Diamond Plus members. The rooms are small no big however, attention to detail are bad. When you walk in all you smell is distinct mold walk in the bathroom the wallpaper is moldy and peeling off the wall the shower is Rusty the toilet is old and it's only foot off the ground. The carpet is very old and feel so dirty on your feet that I put towels on the floor that I had brought for the pool so that we did not have to touch the carpet with bare feet. There is a microwave there is a refrigerator and you will pay $18 a day to park none of this is a big deal. The bad is we are handed towels daily that are shredded that look worse than something I would wash my car with that's a problem and on the 4th day early in the morning we found cockroaches in the bathroom and then around refrigerator area. I can deal with all the other things because I truly enjoyed the property but the moldy smell and Cockroaches we will not ever except. I did write a review and management NEVER responded back. That's not good either.

We were in room 139, Marina View with 2 queen beds. The little patio that looked out on the marina was a highlight. It was nice having microwave and mini fridge. The beds were worn out. My biggest complaint was the free bicycles. The two that were left when we checked them out were for a small girl and the other had a flat tire

This is a classic property with an excellent location.. Very clean and service was exceptional. Staff was friendly and always helpful. Views were spectacular. Grounds were spotlessly kept and amenities exactly as advertised.

The shower head and tub faucet was totally discolored so that I didn't want to use it. The sink basin had two large cracks. Dust around the back of the side tables.... Enjoyed the location but the room itself was not satisfactory.

Beautiful location on the Marina, a boutique type feel with a wonderful restaurant and pool. Outstanding customer service giving you the homey feel. Stayed in a 2 room suite which was beautifully appointed and especially enjoyed the rooms outdoor patio. I highly recommend Island Palms.

This was our 3rd stay at the BW Island Palms on Shelter Island. The rates are reasonable, and the location is minutes from the airport and from the downtown area. Our room was updated, clean, had a pretty bay view and quiet at night. We always park across the street in the free public lot instead of paying the hotel parking fee of $18-$20 a night. You are close to many restaurants including the Blue Wave restaurant on site which is good and has a nice setting next to the pool and marina. If you are bay view, you will see lots of military activity on the water and in the air. The marina view is pretty too but less activity.

This is a well placed hotel for visiting San Diego provided you have a car - public transport is rather distant. The venue is quiet save for some fixed wing and helicopter traffic from the naval base across the water, which is quite interesting as there are few hotels where you step out of your room to see an aircraft carrier sailing by. Ask for a room with a marina view; the ones on the passage between the front and back of the property are somewhat noisier and look out at a stairway. The hotel is very clean and well kept and the staff are excellent. Some of the property is getting a little worn; the safe in our room didn't work. Though the maintenance man was prompt, very pleasant and helpful, he couldn't fix this because the safes in many rooms are obsolete and can no longer be maintained. If you are bothered by this, try asking for a room with a brown, not beige, safe.

This hotel is like being on a tropical island with all of the beautiful trees and flowers. With lots of places to stroll and enjoy nature. Our room was very nice and spacious with a balcony overlooking the marina. The staff was very friendly and helpful with every need during our stay. The restaurant on site was very nice for all of your meals and the food was very good. Would not hesitate to go back and stay again!

This is not just a hotel it is an experience, like an Island getaway, the grounds are lush and tropical with heated pools and amazing views of the harbor and bay. The room was clean, bright and comfortable with a great view from inside the room or the cute balcony bistro set. The staff was friendly, professional and attentive. Dinner and Lunch at the Blue wave restaurant was DELISH, the menu is very diverse and super accommodating to us non meat eaters ♥, will definitely make this a regular dining stop. The drinks from the bar were yummy, Bloody Mary's with spicy green beans, we look forward to hanging out at the new outdoor bar patio overlooking the harbor and catch some live music. You will love it here, promise.

This hotel had the feel of a tropical hideaway. The view was incredible and we had a wonderful afternoon riding the bike available to us. It was close to attractions such as Sea World, Liberty Station and Seaport Village. Can't wait to return and get away again.

Great ambiance, Theresa the bartender was absolutely amazing. She took care of us all day while we were enjoying the pool. The guacamole and chips, and barbecue salad was so good. Pool and people were so fun. Such a great time!

My wife an I stayed at the Island Palms property for 8 nights 2/8-2/16. Prior to our arrival I called Danny at the front desk to confirm our reservations and to verify that our requests for king bedding and a quiet area with a good view could be accommodated. Danny did not disappoint the room was perfect, clean, quiet and had amazing views of the marina. The restaurant on property was very good offering the same outstanding views along with good food and service. The property overall is a little dated and could use a few updates but the location, service, cleanliness and friendly staff made up for any shortcomings. I would highly recommend this property to anyone.

I've been bringing my family here for years. As soon as one stay at the Best Western Plus Shelter Island Palms and Marina ends, I immediately start looking forward to the next one. It's that good. The setting is wonderful, providing amazing views basically everywhere you look. And the service from people like Leidy and Danny is amazing. We particularly look forward to seeing Danny's smiling face every year! San Diego is one of my favorite places to visit. But I never have to think about where I want to stay when I visit San Diego. I want to stay at the Best Western Plus Shelter Island Palms and Marina!

Great location, comfy rooms, nice suites. Multiple pools, friendly staff, large bathroom. Very close to the pier and the beach, plenty of parking. Multiple buildings and locations, soda machines and we asked the restaurant for water and they gave us cups.

The location was great close to lots of things we wanted to see. The staff was so accommodating and friendly. Clean rooms, nice hot tub and comfortable bed. There was no housekeeping service provided in our week stay, we were fine with that but would have liked it if at least at some point the towels were picked up. By the time we left we had a huge stack. We will definitely stay here again!

The pool, fireplace and hot tub were lean and in such a beautiful setting, overlooking the marina and a view of the hillside filled house. The bed was comfortable, nice sheets and pillows. The view from our patio was amazing. The bay with the boats and the view of downtown San Diego. Restaurants within walking distance. Such a treat!

We had some issue with our travel agency and flight cancellations. Garby, Alec, and Danny at front desk were so nice and helpful. The hotel is beautiful and clean. Other staffs that we encountered also very nice. It is in a nice area and nearby many nice places, restaurants. We will definitely go back and visit.

Fabulous location with spacious suites with living room and kitchen, all window filled rooms overlooking the adjacent marina. Excellent value and fun for families or couples. Very chill and comfortable place to relax and recoup. Nice amenities and easy access to recreation--walking and biking.

It is a great location, very picturesque. The restaurant was very good with great views of the marina. The room was in a good location with parking on-premises. There is not a bad view to be had, the front of the Hotel faces the bay and North Island.

This is the greatest place to visit in SanDiego. The location is fantastic, with views of the bay, and plenty ot picnic and walking areas. All the rooms are good clean, well equipped, and with views of either the bay or the marina. The restaurant is exceptional, both food and service. Also with a view. The staff are good people, professional and eager to assist. This is more than a best western…it is a resort.

This property was a huge disappointment. Bathtub shower didn't drain. Sink didn't drain. dirty old carpets. Chipped and dirty doors and baseboards. Torn furniture. Poor tired lighting. Noisy heater and air conditioner unit. The bar was fine. The restaurant food was very poor and greasy. Who burns an omelet? Nasty. It seems nobody cares, They did listen to my feedback at checkout and said it would be relayed to management. Terrific location though.

Fabulous locating overlooking marina. Nice lanai. 2 pools. BUT room a disaster. No hairdryer, light bulbs burned out, furniture old and chipped, cheap coffee pot and one caffeine pod with poor coffee, carpet worn, shower lacking grab bars and fiber glass buckled floor, towels thin without and worn. Planned 3 nights, left in a hurry after 1. Manager was understanding. Waived parking.

Location was fantastic, room decor a little old, really needs a refresh Price was a little high as hotel was dated, but then again location is the high point The odd thing where there was a chair directly behind the door that stopped the door from opening all the way which made it hard to get suitcases into the room. Very weird. And no place to move the chair to once in. Very unusual.

The location is awesome. The view on the marina side is wonderful, especially at Breakfast from the restaurant. The staff is responsive to guests' needs and very courteous. This was the second time I stayed there, and hopefully not the last.

This isn't the first time I've stayed at this property and it won't be my last. My girlfriend and I try to come here at least once or twice a year just to relax and hang out around the hotel. I highly recommend booking a room with the "Marina View" as it has the most amazing view at sunset. It's perfect if you are looking for a romantic getaway or are just looking for a place to kick back and relax. For those who may be here on business or might have kids that require internet access, we had a good wifi connection in our room (room 510). After a few speed tests, I was getting about 12-15 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up. Good enough for streaming videos or video calling. It's possible that I've just been lucky staying here, but in my experience I've never had any issues about noise. The rooms are quiet and I slept great. Overall, I'd highly recommend staying here. It's conveniently located near a lot of great restaurants and isn't too far from the freeway, but at the end of the day when you are ready to wind down, it's located far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown areas that it seems more peaceful (especially at night).

I had a wonderful time visiting my Son and Nephew who are military. The hotel was awesome, the view awesome. I will definitely be returning in the future. On my last day before checking out we walked along the water. We saw the Navy ships come in. Amazing.

This was such a great hotel. Located right near the water. Every room in our building had water view, either to the bay or to the marina. Nice pools, and hot tubs. Complimentary bikes for use. They are not the best bikes, but we had a nice morning ride on two of the beach cruisers along the bay. No breakfast with the hotel, but with the view and location that wasn't a big negative for us. The Blue wave is in the hotel and has a good breakfast to purchase.

What a great location. It served as a great base to explore San Diego, and the surrounding areas. Clinton checked us in, and was amazing! We plan to return later this year. The view was our room was incredible!

I hate to share how great this hotel was - I want to keep the hotel to myself. It is one of my favorite hotels I have stayed in. The reviews were absolutely accurate! So beautiful! The attention to detail is incredible. We loved staying here! We were in Casa Del Mar on the bay side but either side has a beautiful view. We rode the offered bikes and had a beautiful time. No breakfast offered but there are many good restaurants nearby and the walk in the bay is restful And relaxing. Loved it !

First they charge $20 a day for parking. Then the lady in the front desk said my room would have a view of the marina but all I see is bushes. Also the room did not have an ironing board I had to request one. The microwave didn't work. Also the safe did not work. The room is dated.

Pros: Staff and Location ... AWESOME. Cons: No Continental Breakfast. Due to COVID-19 mitigations, there's no Maid Service for stays under 4 nights ( we stayed 3 nights). Mattress and Pillows were just plain AWFUL, probably the worst we've ever encountered in all of our travels. On-Site Restaurant (Blue Wave Bar & Grill) seemed a bit pricey.

The room we stayed in was very dirty and needs a lot of repairs. We files a complain with the front desk but the staff just gave us the business card of the Manager of the hotel. Although, he was very apologetic to us.

The location is great, by the bay. Hotel is spread out. Room was kinda dated and pretty small. Stay was not bad but not what I expected. Also, the 16 bucks for parking on the property is kind of sad too but seems it's status quo for SD.

Over 10yrs period, I stayed at this establishment around 4-6 times. Still good but can be better! Rooms need to be updated to keep up with current decors and styles. The window AC for sure annoying and extremely noisy. Overall, highly recommended if the price it right, sometimes it's overpriced for the overall value/experience and location.

We had a wonderful stay at Best Western Island Palms Resort for our anniversary. The location and the view was wonderful. Our room on the top floor at Casa Marina has an excellent view of the marina and the amenities were great including refrigerator and microwave. The Blue Wave Bar and Grill on site has excellent food and service was great. Definitely will be back in the future. The minor thing is we didn't get our welcome kit as Platinum reward member but that was fine.

A friend and I decided to stay overnight in San Diego. The location of this hotel was beautiful. They had a great restaurant and great bar that was open late. The staff was absolutely amazing! Jennifer, Alec and Aqeel helped us check in. They were all so kind and provided fantastic customer service. They even returned my phone to me when I lost it. I would definitely recommend staying here.

We had a really good experience upon our check-in and our request for an ADA room was arranged quickly and efficiently. The room was well located with easy access to the pool and jacuzzi. The restaurant food was very good and the service was excellent.

This is a truly unique hotel! It is a spacious resort-like property. The location is superb with wonderful views in every direction. There is a lovely walkway overlooking the marina as are the two pools and hot tubs. The lounge and restaurant have wonderful food and beverages priced very fairly. An earlier review stated that this property is not your typical “cookie cutter” hotel. This is true and such a welcome change from brands that insist on building lodging where every hotel is identical. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

We choose this Hotel because of its proximity to the airport and unique location. We read reviews and they seemed great. We rented two rooms. The double bed room was ok. Although the main door opened into one of the beds so you would have to squeeze to the side and then close the door to get into the room. The king bed was not great. There was a significant sag or hole on the left side of the bed. The bathroom drains had a fowl smell that we reported once and a guy came out with a liquid. The smell went away but when it came back we just kept the door closed. For the price, I would have stayed elsewhere.

The hotel was nice and the staff was very friendly. We had a great time at the hotel wish we cold have stayed longer. There are a lot of great restaurants around the area and in Point Loma. We enjoyed eating at The Point Loma Fish Shop and the surf and turf near old town.

This was our 1st stay at this property and it was very nice. Check in was fast and easy and the staff was VERY accommodating and meeting a couple requests. GREAT location and grounds are pristine and very well kept. Hotel is older but seems to be kept up well. Property is large with many different types of accommodations and room types. I do recommend and we will stay here again on our annual trips to San Diego area.

Brought the kids out for a few days to San Diego and had a few special request when I checked in, and Jennifer at the front desk, not only fulfilled those request she noticed I had kids and gave me a room close to the pool. Awesome customer service.

This is a very beautiful hotel with wonderful views and centrally located. It's very quiet and safe. It's a great place to visit if you are from out of town. It's also a nice place to do a staycation if you leave in town. . We live staying here.

Just returned from 5 nights at this hotel. I can't relate to the fact that travellers has called this hotel a "Travellers Choice 2021". In all respects, it's an awfull hotel. How Best Western have the nerve to call it "Plus" is a mystery to me. The hotel is run down. Poorly maintained. Room service is not offered. You have to call and request it, but even then, they don't do it. In two occasions they "forgot" to do our room, even though it was requested at front desk. The room was small and dirty. View to a vending machine. No one offer to bring the luggage to your room. Customer service is extremely bad. No solutions are offered. All they can say is "We are sorry". Shelter Island is OK. A lot of hotels. A lot of yachts. A distant view to down town San Diego. Good advise............save your money. Stay somewhere else. There are plenty of hotels offering better deals and with a much better customer service.

We enjoyed everything about this hotel. We loved sitting outside looking out over the marina and enjoying a bottle of wine. The pool, hot tub, and fire pit were perfect and the landscaping is beautiful and we spent several hours just hanging out there. We enjoyed going for a run or a long walk on Shelter Island each day. There's a really cool trail on the beach on the mainland not far away too and within walking distance. The overall value for this hotel is off the charts! The third party that we booked through mistakenly canceled our reservation, but we were taken care of and even given an upgrade.

It's a sprawling resort with palm trees and lots of plants, lobby which is a classic of mid century California design, my room was a cottage with a little outdoor seating area! And Gabby at the front desk was terrific. This is SO NOT personality less cookie cutter FRANCHISE (for record I dislike most hotels). This is the one to savor, enjoy ..

We came down to SD for a long weekend. This Best Western is a great combination of great location, service, and value. It's really like three different hotels with a variety of room layouts. The guy at the front desk, I believe his name was clinton, was very friendly and he made check in easy. We stayed in the Casa Marina building facing the marina, great views during the day and beautiful at night with all the boats and christmas lights. The room is spacious, bed comfortable, and clean, everything (TV, heater, lights) worked as they should. Didn't hear much noise from the other rooms. The hotel is in a great location on Shelter Island with lots of park area to walk along the bay and it's less than a 10 minute drive to downtown SD. We hadn't eaten at their Blue Wave restaurant before this trip (let's face it, usually hotel restaurants are, at best, just OK ) so I was very pleasantly surprised at how actually really good the food at the Blue Wave Grill is. I understand they have a new chef so I guess we visited at the right time! But both the food and service was excellent. We come to SD several times a year and we'd stay again when we come back.

We came to the San Diego area for a family emergency, so the trip wasn't for fun. This property gave us nice respite. The location is terrific; much less hustle and bustle of hotel circle or downtown. Great views, generous and well appointed rooms, terrific staff, and lots of shopping and restaurants nearby. There is also a nice on site restaurant, so you don't even need to leave the property. Great walking, biking (bikes available), and sightseeing too. Two great pools top it off. Definitely will stay here in future.

Celebrating my husband‘s birthday, we decided to stay here again, but this time I booked a suite and how lovely was it! It had a nice front room with a dining table, nice kitchenette area, 1 and 1/2 bath, nice bedroom with a large balcony overlooking the Gardens and the marina! We selected Best Western Plus for a quick staycation and were blown away with the experience. Check-in with Jennifer was easy and she made us feel that our business was valued. Our room was incredible, with a view of the ocean from our own private balcony, and the winter rates were irresistable. We'll be back again soon!

We stayed here for the second time over Thanksgiving and loved it again. This time there was an issue with the room I thought I had booked, but Jennifer at the front desk was very helpful and competent in resolving the situation to my satisfaction. This hotel is in a great location on Shelter Island with beautiful views of the marina and San Diego Bay, and great walking paths around the island. At night you can see the San Diego skyline; very pretty. It's easy to get everywhere from here, and yet you feel like you are on a tropical vacation.

First time staying at this resort with a view. Walking along the coast line in the morning as great as we watched the sail boats on the water. Lots of things to do and the food was great with lots of selections. Kids park and place for resting and roasting marshmellow near the water too.

This hotel is very nice and in a great location. We stayed here in August, 2019 for 5 nights in the Casa Marina and loved it. This June I booked the hotel again for 2 nights in the Casa Marina with a king bed and requested a Marina view, top floor, quiet room. I reconfirmed a week before arriving in November that we would get a king bed in the Casa Marina. Upon arriving we were told no king beds in the Casa Marina were available and we would have to go to the Casa Del Mar building. We arrived at 5:30 in the evening so it was not a late arrival. Instead of a quiet room in the Casa Marina our room in the Casa Del Mar was right above the spa and pool, not exactly the quiet location requested. I really like this hotel but would be hesitant to book again. The online reservation system lets you choose what building you want. I can understand they cannot guarantee a top floor, view of the marina room but I expect to get a room in the building I reserved and the size bed I reserved. The room in the Casa Del Mar was very nice but the spa and pool do not make this a quiet room. In summary, their reservation policy leaves something to be desired. I would have given this hotel 5 stars if we had gotten what we reserved. We had breakfast twice in the restaurant and found the food and staff very good.

Room was very clean , staff was very helpful, like Jennifer at the front desk who helped us with our reservation, etc. The manager, Aqeel, was very good in assisting us with our billing and corrected any issues immediately. The entire stay was great including the dinner at the restaurant/bar. Of course the location was absolutely the best......

Vacation was fine, but the facility is average, We expected a more elegant resort, but it served our purposes. Food was very good. I am not sure if we were given the best of their rooms, based on comparability to our Manhattan Club NYC room. We would not necessarily recommend it to our friends.

I was here in mid-November and on my last day had a late checkout query that Danny (front desk / reception) accommodated to cap a good week at this property. It made my exit and lengthy wait time for an evening flight far more pleasant and efficient than would have been otherwise. I look forward to future stays here.

Shelter Island is a narrow piece of land sticking out into the bay. There is about a 3 mile path to the end of the island and back on the opposite side. From the front of the hotel is a beautiful view of the bay and downtown San Diego. Great sunrises from here too. The back of the hotel looks out onto a huge marina (you can Paddleboard there) and beyond is Point Loma and that neighborhood nestled into the hillside. Location is 20 minutes to downtown and just 10 minutes to the airport. But we didn't hear any plane noise probably because the military occupies most of the land between the airport and the hotel and would be off limits to commercial planes. We experienced way above average friendliness and service with the staff. Sales Manager Madison arranged a private family breakfast for 20 of us and got every detail right. Danny is amazing at the front desk for getting just about anything done. Restaurant served good food, inside when it was cool and outside on the patio overlooking the pool when the weather was nice. Lots of free parking across the street if you want to avoid the on site parking fee. We hope to return soon.

We usedBest Western Plus due to it's very close location to SeaWorld and the bay. Upon check-in, we noticed our double queen room did not have a freezer included. We called customer service to see if they had a freezer available for our 9 month olds frozen breast milk. After speaking with Jennifer at the front desk, Aqeel (manager) upgraded us to a suite to accomodate our specific needs, as it has a full-size refrigerator/freezer and kitchen. Incredible support, the room is 2nd floor with a view of the bay, if you're able to book with this location this is the place to go. Across the street is a large fishing pier with a restaurant, as well as a kids playground/swings. There's also a restaurant attached to the main lobby area, which includes a large selection of wines with a solid food menu. The outdoor seating is an elevated view to look at the city/home lights of San Diego in the distance, this was fantastic. We ordered a burger/fries, calamari, salmon, and they offer a kids menu as well. You need to check this location out.

My wife and I came here for our four year wedding anniversary. We live in San Diego but love she area this hotel is in. I got a great room for a fantastic price. So many things to do in the immediate area. Would recommend for someone out of state or a staycation in your own city.

We had previously stayed at this property, though some time had passed since our last visit. The intervening years have been good to the Island Palms. The property is well maintained in a beautiful location. The staff, throughout our 4 night visit, was excellent. They were all friendly, courteous and efficient. A special tip of the hat to Front Desk Personnel Leidy and Danny. We were only one couple of four that had booked this property for a wedding in San Diego, and I can tell you it was 8 thumbs up ratings. Our accommodation in the Casa Del Mar building was very spacious and quiet with a beautiful marina view. The property has posted quiet hours from 10pm til 9am, and we witnessed no violation of this policy. We look forward to another visit and we will not wait so long to visit again.

Location was great with nice views. We were happy with the price. They obviously won't tell you this but you can park for free in the lot across the street instead of paying their daily parking fee. Would definitely stay here again.

This place was awesome! the general atmosphere was great. The location was great. The staff was fantastic. Enjoyed every last minute of this trip. I was going for a clean and reasonable establishment to stay in while in town for my sons graduation from MCRD. So much better than I was expecting! We will no doubt stay here again next time we are in the area. If you're reading reviews from folks down rating this place you can disregard them. You won't regret staying here.

While this looks to be a decent property, there are a few areas that require attention: There needs to be more than one person for check-in/check-out. Lengthy delay in regards to both. Requested a quiet room. Yet, we were given a room overlooking the parking lot on a Saturday night. Needless to say, not quiet. Did request a marina view room, but that did not happen. The so-called heating/cooling vent is in disrepair and should be revamped. Ice machine nearby probably hasn't been in working order for years. Had to get ice from the restaurant. Speaking of the restaurant...enjoyed a lovely lunch outside on their patio. Decided to return for dinner. Totally different experience with inedible ceasar salad and a server that did not return for a long time. Had to hunt him down for the bill. Disappointing, especially given the excellent service at lunch.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Island Palms and had an amazing stay! The staff, location, rooms, and amenities were ALL outstanding!!! The beds are VERY COMFORTABLE and the views are amazing!!! Also, Clinton and Aqeel at the front desk are "AWESOME!" We will definitely be back when we visit San Diego!!

Pros: Beautiful waterfront location close to airport and many area attractions, tennis courts and multiple pools on site, friendly staff, spacious and comfortable guest rooms, reasonable prices. Cons: Some guest room features needed repair, small noise issues, parking fee. Surrounded by water and a marina, it's difficult to imagine this property being just 10-15 minutes from area landmarks like the airport, SeaWorld, and Mission Beach- when there it feels a hundred miles away from a major metropolitan area. Of course it being in southern California, traffic sometimes adds quite a bit of time to even the shortest of area drives. Not your standard, cookie-cutter rectangular box, this is a fun property with a waterside walkway, multiple pools and hot tubs, an on-site restaurant, and tennis courts (my two night stay didn't afford me time to enjoy most of those, but I look forward to a future stay). Comprised of multiple buildings, my king bed room was at the far end of the complex and featured lots of space and nice decor touches like plantation shutters. I welcomed the expansive work desk and sofa for relaxing at night while watching TV. The room would have benefited from some better attention to detail. The towel hook on the wall outside the shower was about to fall off, the door hiding the refrigerator was just as loose, and despite the room being clean the air vent in the bathroom ceiling was dirty. On the first night of my stay I heard the late night banging of doors in the hallway (they're difficult to close quietly) and in the morning I was awoken by the sounds of the marina outside the room, including but not limited to squawking seagulls and people bringing their barking dogs to their boats. Despite these minor inconveniences, I would gladly return here next time I travel to the area. These days unique properties are getting harder and harder to find, and this is the kind that makes one feel they're truly on vacation.

It was a beautiful locations however walls are thin and we were awoken many times in the middle of the night because of people upstirs and next to us. The shower also had air bubbles in the floor and i almost fell a few times in the shower.

This hotel is gorgeous. We had an upstairs room with a view of the harbor with a patio. The room was very spacious. We were traveling with our E-Bikes so needed an elevator which was very roomy and easy to get to our room. Our bed was super comfortable and everything was very clean. There were lots of amenities that we didn't have time to enjoy this time around but are already making plans to come again!

The location was ok.. need a car to get around.. the property also needs renovation.. old furniture and decor, the carpets needs a good cleaning and the bedding needs to be refresh . But overall ok for the money

The property location was great and very close to downtown and other tourist locations, we loved the location and the view. The front desk services was superb and I definitely will visit this location again.

I reserved my room 8 months prior to my stay. When I arrived, I was put into the oldest building and told I was given an upgrade to a suite. I did not want that, but wanted the room I reserved in the newest building. I was given a verbal runaround as to why that room was not available. I was told by different people the hotel was full, the room was out of service as was the other two similar rooms they had, the rooms were getting new mattresses, I would have to vacate a couple hours when the mattresses came (no problem for me to do) and then seeing no new mattresses even come into the building. Why was I given the runaround? I had a heck of a time finding my room at night as the room numbering system in the front of the building did not match the numbering in the back. My room was 222, the front of the building rooms were in a different sequence (the 150s). No elevator in the old building, I had to climb with all my luggage to the top floor, (there was an elevator in the room I had reserved.) Not a good way to start my trip. Despite being promised that night I would be able to check in to my reserved room the following day, it took me a half hour on the phone with a staff person to finally make this happen, as he was definitely bent on my staying in the room where I was.

This hotel is in a beautiful location right on the Marina. Not a lot of shopping nearby, but some nice restaurants and coffee shops (I recommend trying the coffeehub for a good local place, it just about a mile away). Very quiet and relaxing. Staff was super friendly. Really couldn't be happier with my stay. Would definitely stay there again!

The setting of this hotel on Shelter Island next to the marina is wonderful, especially for those of us from landlocked states. The room was spotless, the staff courteous. We did not even experience the usual noise one might expect from adjoining rooms. The garden, with the marina just beyond, outside our front door was a perfect place for a predinner drink. Parking was convenient, if a little tight.

The location on Shelter Island is ideal for a relaxing visit. There are boats in the marina on one side and the main channel for boats entering and leaving San Diego on the other. There is an abundance of wild life to watch, seals, pelicans, etc. You can also watch planes and helicopters from the military base. The hotel itself is very comfortable and clean. The pool area is great and so is the restaurant.

Great location on Shutter Island. Views of the city, marina and ocean. This is our second time staying here and we will return. Large resort style hotel. Free bikes to borrow for the day. Two pools/hot tubs. Clean modernish rooms. Quiet surroundings. Close to great views, things to do and places to eat.

This resort was breath taking. The view was incredible! The room had wood blinds, and had a balcony overlooking the harbor. We loved watching the ships pass by. The pools overlooked the marina and our building's pool had a fireplace. The restaurant, The Blue Wave was exceptional! Our waitress Justine Ketell was the best waitress ever, and made sure everything was perfect! The food was great! We just loved this hotel, and when in San Diego will stay here!

The hotel has seen better days. Our room was old and falling apart. The shower door would not close, the dresser drawers would not stay closed (the dresser leaned forward). The ac system struggled to properly cool the room and the granite countertop was cracked in half. Would not stay there again.

We have stayed in San Diego many times over the years and like to stay in different places. Two years ago, stayed downtown. Last year, stayed in Mission Bay. This time chose Shelter Island, a place between these two areas and decided a first time stay at this establishment after reading online reviews. We were not disappointed. I want to add that there are several great hotels to choose from on the island and we decided to give this one a try. The BWPIPAM is ideally located on Shelter Island. We got a room on the Marina side. The room was clean and very comfortable with an outside seating area. Room had a comfortable bed, coffee maker and a small refrigerator which came in handy. Right behind this establishment is a walking path right along the marina, ideal in the morning. Several fine eating establishments are within walking distance too. Also another choice of a walking path (And park) right across Shelter Island Drive that runs the length of shelter island with cool breezes off the bay and a great views of downtown San Diego and the bay. Spectacular views at night and sunny days! The staff was very kind and was able to help with all our needs. We would 100% stay here again in the future.

We are BW Elite members, this hotel was very convenient since we were going to a concert at Humphry's that night. The concert venue is only a short (walking) distance from here. We enjoyed the bar, had a couple of drinks and appetizers, great service which sometimes is difficult to find in COVID times.

I feel staying at the Island Palm Resort through RCI, was very disappointing because of the location of our room. We attempted to get a room change several times, but we were unable to get a change despite seeing many bay rooms available throughout the resort.

Great hotel and location. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Only issues were some how having two reservations. Resolved and given free parking for the inconvenience, which was more than fair. Safe did not work and although reported was not fixed. Also using the bathroom was like taking a shower on a trampoline. The shower tub combo had been upgraded by installing an insert over the existing tub. Somehow water had been trapped in between. We were fine but someone with balance issues could fall. No response from management when we reported it.

We stayed at Island Palms for 12 nights. It was even better than we expected and we would definitely go back! They treated us well from the moment we arrived. We did have to wait for our room to be ready and it was about 5pm before we got the keys. However, they did give us free parking so we were pleased. The marina view is beautiful! We were in the Casa Del Mar building close to the pool. The room was very clean and comfortable. One of the more comfortable beds I have slept on in my opinion! The bedding was nice and cozy too! One day about 3pm our smoke detector started beeping. It continued throughout the night into the next morning. They kept telling us someone would come fix it but no one ever showed up. We went to the office and told them what was going on since phone calls were useless. They apologized and Danny gave us some breakfast coupons which was nice and he got our alarm fixed. Kuddos to Danny for the excellent customer service. Breakfast was very good but like all of California was on the expensive side. $40 for two meals...I can't say much on the cleaning crews or maids because we never had any service which we didn't need. Towels were easy to get. The pool was never crowded so we got chairs and loungers everyday. The pool was a little chilly but refreshing. A wonderful stay of 12 nights! If I am being picky and I had to point out any negatives there were a few. The room needs more towel bars or hooks. There was only one of each in the room but we never had a place to put wet towels and bathing suits except outside! The bathtub had a liner in it but it felt like it had never been glued down so when you took a shower it would wobble and water got underneath of it. It was a weird sensation on the feet. The water had an odor to it when you first turned it on. Not sure what that was but it was fine after you ran it for a few minutes. The other con was parking. We felt each room should have a designated spot. On the weekends the hotel parking lot is packed full! If I had paid for parking and wasn't able to park in the lot I would have been unhappy. These are me just trying to find a negative and no way would it effect my decision in staying there again! Our trip was wonderful and we hope to see you again in the future BWIP! We have been to San Diego twice, in 10/2019 and 9/2021, and stayed at the Best Western Plus Island Palms both times. Other than the common pandemic adjustments, our most recent stay was just as good as the first. We stayed in the Casa Del Mar building both times which I would recommend. The location is near perfect. There are some restaurants in a reasonable walking distance (and it's a pleasant walk), but it's not far to downtown, the zoo, beaches, etc. The parking lot gets pretty crowded on the weekend but we always found a spot, even if it was far from our room. (Also, I believe there is a parking garage at the southwest end of the property that we didn't realize was ours until midway through our stay, which might have been closer than where we ended up parking). When we came back late in the evenings we frequently saw hotel staff patrolling the parking area which is appreciated especially with the $18/night charge. The room was comfortable and in my opinion a great value for what we paid. The hotel clearly isn't new, but everything worked that we needed to and was clean. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. One suggestion I'd have for the hotel is in this time of limited housekeeping, to stock the rooms with enough toilet paper, towels, soap, etc based on the length of stay. We had to call guest services twice to get more of those items during our 8 night stay, which they came and dropped off while we were out. All the staff we spoke to during our stay were very friendly and helpful. The wifi worked well for a hotel; on this road trip we stayed at a couple of other hotels where it was so slow we just used data on our phones but here it was fast enough for normal browsing. We will definitely stay here on our next trip and keep staying here as long as the quality doesn't go down. Given the location right on the water the price is very reasonable and when I have searched other hotels in San Diego out of curiosity, comparable hotels in much worse locations seem to be only a little cheaper. I would highly recommend it for anyone spending time in San Diego.

This Best Western was so conveniently located close the Humphreys Concert venue. Rather than driving home at night, it was so nice to just walk a few blocks and get rest prior to going home. The bed was comfortable and the room was very clean. The staff is helpful and cheerful.

On the spur of moment we decided for a weekend getaway. We have never experienced Shelter Island and thought we would give it a try. I chose Best Western after reading some favorable reviews. For a room under $200, I was very pleased. The room was comfortable and well appointed with a great view of the Marina. We enjoyed the bar area and appreciated the great service (front desk included). We Will Return (5 Stars out of 5)

This is a beautiful area in San Diego. The staff is very nice and helpful. The hotel is older but well maintained. We had a big family gathering in this area and this hotel served our purpose very well

Good location near harbor and restaurants. clean room, quiet at night, beds was comfortable with soft pillow. Refrigerator was rather small, together with coffee maker. But, overall, it was good value

We met a small group of friends for a 5 night stay. Our room was clean and comfortable and very safe on Shelter Island. The staff were friendly and helpful. In this new Covid era we were apprehensive of how they would handle room cleaning but they made an effort to insure we had all we needed.

Love the views. You can walk across the little street to the boardwalk at the San Diego Bay. We love walking the military aircraft in the afternoon. Watching the boats is so relaxing. The little beach was fun for our little granddaughter to play in. The on site restaurant near the marina side has nice views, nice people, good food and reasonable prices. There is an onsite playground now. So fun. We will be back. We loved the little dorm frig, coffee maker and microwave in the unit

Stayed only 2 nights this time. But stay here a couple times a year. Great place! Great views of the harbor and marina. Walking distance to Humphreys for concerts and many restaurants on Shetor Island.

I was looking for my room, unsure of the building, a team member saw me struggling with my food, bags, map & room key. He came right up offering his help, took the bags, leading me to my room & handed me a wet wipe to clean my hands as he exited the room with a “Enjoy your stay”

Beautiful hotel with sprawling landscape and views of the marina. Clean spacious rooms with multiple pools and things for friends and family to enjoy. Milkious at the front desk was absolutely superb and made up for the customer service that lacked at the bar in their restaurant. Overall fantastic stay and looking forward to my future trip.

My husband and I booked our rehearsal dinner here for our wedding since our venue was close by, we also used this hotel to block off rooms for our wedding party to stay. Steve Schell, the Director of Sales & Catering was our contact and he was SPECTACULAR to work with. Not only did he help us create our perfect rehearsal dinner, but he worked with us to create a contract that gave us everything we wanted at a great price. He also set up a wonderful room block discount for our guests. We had complications elsewhere with our wedding venue due to COVID and Steve was so quick to help connect us with other nearby venues to find us a new space to host our event and he saved our wedding!! I highly recommend the Island Palms Hotel & Marina not only for its location and amenities, but for people like Steve who work there and make the entire experience flawless! Thanks also to Maddie Martin for coordinating, and the staff who ran our rehearsal dinner wonderfully.

Room was clean. The Grounds were beautifully landscaped and maintained. The housekeeping staff were kind and efficient, brought extra towels as needed. The Front Desk was very helpful. Loved the Free bikes that were available. The pools and spa were clean and a nice size. The Restaurant Food was delicious. This is a great location with great views of the Harbor. This Hotel was fabulous.

We were pleasantly surprised by this resort. The staff was exceptional on check in . Our room was large and comfortable. The bathroom was large which is a plus. We had a Marina view looking at the Point Loma hillside. The room was quiet but I understand summer can get rowdy so they have strict rules in place. The only problem was a leaky toilet which I reported three times to staff but maintenance never fixed it.

Pay the little extra for the marina view. It is definitely worth it. This place has more privacy than the typical hotel. Outside the hotel is a nice area to go for a walk along the marina. The restaurant served good food for the price and the outside eating area has a good view of the marina.

We took our 10 year old granddaughter on vacation to San Diego. The room had a small kitchenette which allowed us to make breakfast in the room. The room was quite large, plain, but with a good view of either the harbor or the marina (we liked the harbor for watching the big boats come in.) We really liked the pool (however not enough lounge chairs) and we ate several meals at the restaurant. We stayed there four nights and would likely stay there again.

This is the second time we have stayed here. The hotel has a beautiful layout, but king suite we had was dirty and we killed nine cockroaches and finally stopped counting. This was a three night stay. Shame on Best Western for letting this beautiful hotel get into such a dirty state! The furniture, carpet, walls, and doors are filthy! We wore our flip flops the whole time because the carpet was so dirty. The layout of the hotel is beautiful, but the rooms need a "deep" cleaning very badly. The restaurant for dinner is over priced and lousy food, go to the BRIGANTINE! Four minutes away and awesome food and service!

We were pleasantly surprised during a recent multi-day stay at this hotel on Shelter Island in San Diego. The staff was efficient and consistently helpful, with the accommodations being excellent––not pristinely brand new but very modern and well-maintained. An added bonus was the hotel's internal Blue Wave Bar & Grill Restaurant, which offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner with more reasonable prices than the Vessel Restaurant at next door's Kona Kai Resort. The Blue Wave's personnel is excellent and the quality of food exquisite in our humble opinion. Overall, this property and its accommodations and perks are a much-appreciated alternative to the more expensive Kona Kai and Humphrey's Half Moon Inn, both located on either side of the Best Western Plus Palms Hotel.

This is a very well run hotel along with a friendly staff. Rooms are exceptionally clean with very nice decor. Downside to hotel is the nightly parking charge of $18.00 and on Saturdays nights you're lucky if you can find a parking spot near your room.

Some information to help you with your selection. I've posted pictures of the property maps which I wasn't able to find online. This would have saved me tons of time. From the way rooms are currently listed on the website, the ones that don't say either Marina building or del Mar building are in the Grand Marina garden or in the sunset garden from what I can tell. If you are looking from Google maps, casa Marina is the one closest to the tennis courts, then it's casa del Mar, then it is Grand Marina garden, and then the pool, and then the lobby and some other buildings, and then the sunset garden buildings. We stayed in the Grand Marina garden building, number 208 upstairs. The room description said scenic view and in this case it means a view of the marina. For whatever reason the casa Marina and casa del Mar room descriptions give you Marina view for that same view. Our suite room has a real kitchen that includes pots and pans and dishes and silverware. The bathroom has a shower but no tub. The living room and kitchen is separated from the bedroom with double doors. There is a patio if you could call it that pointing towards the walkway which is fenced off with a low fence, but it isn't something that mostly faces the marina. It kind of does. And it's not private. I can see what people mean that it is an older building and could use renovation but honestly it's just fine. The beds are comfortable and the shower is fine. We like having lots of space here and also being quite close to the pool. We've been parking in the parking lot across the street overnight and it's been fine. The signs indicate that you aren't allowed to park overnight on the street itself. But the lot that seems to be fine and there are some RVs over there. There is a laundry room with coin-op laundry which we used and worked well. I'm told that you can buy detergent from a machine in the laundry room. You can check out a key from the front desk to get into the laundry room and they will give you quarters to work the machines. A few other things, one is that we really don't hear airplane noise. The other is that the location seems to be reasonably convenient. And finally, the folks at the front desk have been helpful. I think that the pricing for this hotel is reasonable given everything and we are having fun.

This hotel is in need of an update. Our room had a leaking faucet and a very large stain on the carpet. We usually stay in Casa Del Mar building but not this time. I paid for a marina view and was give room 147 which has large plants in front of the room and a tiny bit of marina view. There were only 10 lounge chairs at the pool and 5 of them were broken. I told the front desk who called maintenance, the maintenance man said, “that's all we have”. I told him they needed to buy some new ones. No reply. We go there every year and I think we will try another hotel on the island next time. Hopefully they will update the hotel by next year.

BW already has my extremely detailed review. Also expressed my displeasure with several details during check in, check out and stay with onsite Front Desk Supervisors but seemed to fall on deaf ears. Including fraudulent charges on my room bill from onsite restaurant which took too much time to get credited at checkout. Average Best Western Hotel in an exceptional location. Don't be fooled by location and scenery. Step up your game BW Island Palms as Ill be looking to stay at other Hotels when I'm back in SD in a few months.

I really do not like writing negative reviews but I as much I research in hoping to find the perfect hotel, I am certain that others do as well. I chose this hotel because of the great reviews. It was not great, though there were some pros, the lack of cleanliness unfortunately outweighed the positives. Pros... Large room (we stayed in the King with full kitchen) Nice view of the Marina Comfortable Bed Cons... NOT clean...hair on the bathroom floor. Chocolate on the barstool. Walls dirty. Windows not clean. Dated. Inside cabinets and doors with holes. Housecleaning will not clean if less than 4 day stay. Which, when using the kitchen, a broom or vacuum would be good to have available in the room. Kitchen- minimal utensils and plates/bowls/cups. I did let the front desk know about the room condition and asked for housekeeping to clean. No one ever came to clean the room during our 3 night stay.

The hotel property was very clean and the grounds were well kept. The lobby was well stocked with hand sanitizer and the staff demonstrated their commitment to keeping guests safe. Our suite provided us with a great view of the marina while being quite private. The patio was spacious and relaxing. The suite itself was homey, spacious and comfortable and the kitchenette was well stocked with all of the necessities. The staff was very courteous and the check-in process was efficient. We received a timely response from housekeeping when requesting extra pillows. The pool area was very clean and tidy. Our overall stay was very pleasant.

Convenient and nice area by Marina and Bay. Staff was helpful and friendly. Restaurant was good. Rooms are now dated. Bathroom was not clean by my standards. Tub was dirty and chipped. Walls were dirty. Things wear out and become hard to clean over time. We have stayed here for trips for several years and always loved it. Restaurant was OK. Nice pool area. Nice staff.

Great hotel. Still suffering from staffing shortages and COVID protocols, hope we all get back to normal soon. This location has always been our “go to “ in the San Diego area. Lots to do, and close to everything, it is a great place to stay if you do not want to deal with the madness of downtown.

Great property that's seen better days. Recent stay was disappointing. The location is outstanding. The concept is good. The execution seems to have fallen off considerably. I've stayed here a half dozen times prior; always exceeded my expectations. This most recent stay...the hotel fell short.

BW Island Palms Hotel has been a decades long favorite hotel in San Diego but a recent visit has left us discouraged and looking for a new place to stay in SD. This hotel has lost it's charm, cleanliness, and quality since our last visit 2 years ago. What a shame for such a perfect location to be lost to something that should be so easy to keep nice! Shame on you Best Western!

We have enjoyed many family vacations at the Best Western Island Palms Hotel. When we deduced to travel to some place were the weather was much cooler than our home surroundings, we decided to visit the Island Palms Hotel. All of the employees are wonderful and helpful. The suite was very comfortable with a great view. The Blue Wave Restaurant serves delicious food all day. We love the grounds and the ability to walk the length of Shelter Island, making a complete circle each evening. The hotel location allows for short day trips to Coronado Island, Seaport Village, SeaWorld, etc. We saw the fireworks each evening from SeaWorld.

We had a great week long stay at the Best Western Island Palms. We stayed in a marina view one bedroom king suite with a kitchen (no oven). I called a week before our trip and Danny recommended the marina view room and said he would pick out a good room for us. We were very happy with the room. It was clean and modern enough (some signs of age but nothing too noticeable). I should note that I have very high standards for hotels. The separate bedroom was great since our toddler goes to bed early and naps during the day. The bathroom was separate from the bedroom which was also nice. The balcony was a good size and the view of the marina was great. We could also see the bay from our balcony. The hotel was quiet. We were never disturbed by noise. Housekeeping stopped by once to give us clean towels and take out garbage. That was fine with us but if you want more frequent service, you probably need to request it. Our room was missing a toaster and housekeeping promptly brought one (and a replacement when the first one didn't work). I highly recommend walking on the path along the bay (across the street from hotel) for amazing views of downtown San Diego and to watch all the boats and helicopters (naval base across the way) going by. It's especially pretty in the evening. There's a bay beach across the street from the hotel which was great for our toddler to play in the sand (water was a bit murky but we saw several locals go in). There's also a nice playground on the bay a short walk from the hotel. The hotel is in a very scenic area and we were impressed by the views. A few minor suggestions for improvement: a sponge and/or dish towel for kitchen, lid for kitchen garbage can, our balcony only had one chair but others had 2 chairs, some rooms had a door mat but ours was missing (would have been nice to wipe off sand from shoes), towels by the pool (maybe they're supposed to be there but were out when we visited).

Hotel is in a great location with a great view on the marina side. Loved this about the place. However, the room is another experience. Very worn and dirty stained carpet. Double room was very small. Housekeeping did not tend to our room the second day so we asked for fresh towels and left it at that. 3rd day went to the front desk to make sure housekeeping would tend to our room that day. Was told it would happen and even asked what time I would like. Asked for noon time as we would definitely be out at that time. Returned to the room at 4:00 PM and no housekeeping. By this time our trash was overflowing and we were completely out of TP and tissue. Called the front desk and all they could do was deliver TP and towels, too late for housekeeping. Three night stay and not once did our room get a visit from housekeeping. For the extremely high cost this was totally unacceptable. Everyone I spoke with was very nice but no follow through with my housekeeping requests.

We had for rooms for 12 family members. The double queen suites we perfect for all us. the marina side had a beautiful view. A playground just down the walkway for the kiddies. They accommodated us with early check in as we had a very early flight.

We came to California to release the ashes Of a family member, the area she was raised in and loved so much. Everyone at this Best Western was amazing, from the lovely ladies that kept the room immaculate to the fun folks in the lounge, everything was Great! The location is absolutely perfect, the marina on 1 side of the hotel and the bay on the other.

We can't say enough good about BW Island Palms Hotel & Marina!! We stayed here for a week in July 2021 with our four children and it was wonderful!!! The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant and bar were great. The rooms were clean and tidy. The views are unbelievable on both sides! We enjoyed seeing the military planes and ships come and go from the nearby base. The pools are perfect for kids! We have no complaints here- truly had a great time here and can't wait to come back!!

The hotel has 3 different buildings at 3 different price points with different amenities and views. This was not explained when I reserved the hotel. The customer service was subpar, internet didn't work, many guests had complaints at check-in (should've been a warning ⚠️ to me) and lots of miscommunications. Management did try to compensate for the many issues we had during our stay. The hotel is in a great location and with a few adjustments could've been a fantastic experience.

We just needed a safe and comfortable place for the night to eliminate a 2 hour drive home from SeaWorld. This room was that. And that's it. We were charged an incidental fee in case of damage to the room, but quickly realize the room already had smoking odor, burn marks on the walls, cracked wood throughout, stained carpet, and a broken patio door handle. All reported. The front desk seemed indifferent. They offered to send a maintenance man...

Shelter Island is a good central place to be in San Diego. We went for the Marina view room which was cheaper and also a better choice view wise. Loved the balcony and used it a lot. Was not aware of the parking charge ($18) a night. Also there is no free breakfast at this BW as there is at most. The room was very spacious and well appointed.

We have been vacationing at Island Palms for three generations in our family. Always we are extremely happy with our stays.So many memories at the pool, bicycle rides, food, and watching boats and birds for hours on the patio. So many years of family fun.

Located about half way on Shelter Island with views of the bay and marina, this hotel is just what we were hoping for. Our room was large and comfortable, with chairs and table on the balcony. There are two pools and a tennis court and plenty of parking. We got a great night sleep and enjoyed coffee on the balcony in the morning, watching the boats, ships, and waverunners. There is a lovely walking path along the bay and a small sandy beach with fire pits. The hotel is close enough to all the tourist areas of San Diego, without the noise and commotion. The front desk staff is exceptional and we had no problems at all. We will definitely come back to stay at the BW Plus Island Palms Hotel and Marina.

Good value for the dollar. Nice setting on Shelter Island. This is my go to place whenever I visit San Diego. Walking distance to other food options and attractions. Small bar, with an intimate setting.

Great rejuvenating location. Pools and bar and restaurant are great. Walls are a little thin so earplugs recommended if a light sleeper. The carpets however, are filthy and need replacement. Housekeepers do a great job but they can't do anything about the carpets - they're stained and dirty and need replacement. I've stayed at this hotel several times over several years and this is the case in many rooms. I would definitely stay again and recommend it to anyone staying in San Diego. Just don't go barefoot in the room if you're sensitive about carpet cleanliness.

We have traveled worldwide, and have stayed in all type of hotel/resort properties; Danny is an absolute professional, who focus is to make sure you are taken care of, feel like a VIP, and that every part of your stay is a five star experience. All and any requests are immediately handled with respect, courtesy, and a positive attitude.

This hotel is our favorite place to stay in San Diego. This time we stayed for 7 nights. Excellent service, quite (after pool hours), and very nice setting as we had a marina view. We ate at the restaurant for breakfast and food/service was very good. The wifi is awful. Nowadays we depend on good communication. It was 2 bars but went to zero intermittently. I tried to work with their off site IT but no luck there. We have good iPhones and iPads and no problems at most other locations. The reception was kind of poor for our TMobile cellular except in the parking lot so that was not a great workaround. I would urge management to upgrade their wifi service soon!

During a recent trip to San Diego, we stayed one night at the BW+ Island Palms. This was a second time staying at this hotel, and once again, it exceeded our expectations. The location is outstanding - great views, memorable walks along the bay, and all-around nice people. We ate twice in the restaurant - great service and the best breakfast burrito I have ever had. Check-in was smooth and the staff was very accommodating. "Covid" safe but not over the top. Great value and we will return!

We stayed on the marina side of the apartment. Make sure you ask for a water view, as some views are blocked by palm trees. There were 2 chairs outside, where we enjoyed sitting and feeling the cool breeze.

My overall experience was great. The location is super fun. They have complimentary bikes. My family rode to the local bars, restaurants and shops. We also rode to Liberty Station which is a must when you are in town!!

The room (a suite) was very nice and roomy. However, this hotel is not prepared for the pandemic. No cleaning service available, and no way to communicate what you needed. No dishwasher or oven either. No soap or cleaning tools provided to wash dishes. I had to ask for everything. I wrote a daily list of what I needed and brought it to the front desk. Also, no procedure to get rid of trash or the mounds of towels we accumulated daily. I have stayed at other establishments during the pandemic that handled these situations much better. Note: this hotel does not provide a free breakfast either!

You won't be disappointed! I had Marina view. Quiet. Clean. Best mattress! Great pool! Sunset every night! Walk to local eateries. All the staff gave 5* service. Can't wait to go back soon and stay longer!

Liked our stay here. Nice clean & comfortable room. Loved the view. Dining was subpar for the price especially the pasta dish, pretty much hamburger helper. Parking was free across the street so I wouldn't pay extra for their parking.

The island palms resort was a beautiful hideaway spot on shelter island and so much is walkable. Restaurant is OK (vegan friendly/options HA-none!) but staff especially front desk Danny was the “ get it done! “ guy of the trip! So convenient to the Marina.

Lovely property with beautiful views and a walking path along the marina. Spent four nights in the Del Mar Building. The room was quiet and comfortable and the service was wonderful. Tennis courts (with lights!) were well maintained. Will definitely stay again!

Very nice hotel on Shelter Island. The hotel staff was always accommodating. The area is pretty quite and you can always see the Navy ships going in and out of the bay. Would definitely stay here again.

Location great! Shelter island is easy to get around, walkable. Nice patio on our room. We drove everywhere in SD and found parking pretty easily. (No shuttle on shelter island) Asked for more coffee packets and got it quickly. Not fancy but clean.

The hotel is a must stay in San Diego. The Hotel is absolutely beautiful. The view of the Marina and Sun Set were gorgeous and the staff is amazing. They are so friendly and helpful. The Suite I stayed in was beautiful and had everything I needed. The beds were great and everything was top of the line. You should make the your go to Hotel.

The location is fabulous for this hotel. However, that being said, the carpet was disgustingly dirty and the locks on our slider did not work. I complained immediately after arrival and was advised they would take care of the problems. We stayed for two days and nothing was done.

Great view, great staff, overall great experience would recommend 100%. I stayed for 3 nights 4 kids 2 adults patio was awesome sun rise and sunsets were amazing you need to stay somewhere near by restaurants and attractions this is the place. Pool and hot tub clean and beautiful.

My husband and I have stayed at this location at least three times over the years. We have always loved the location and appearance. We had a good experience this trip as well but noted that the interrior of our building and room seems a bit outdated. Everything was clean but we had to call to get more washclothes and no communication was provided on housekeeping during the Covid situation. Walls are a bit thin so you can hear pretty much every conversation happening in the rooms around. We noticed quiet hour signs posted this trip which suggests others have complained about this problem. Parking is always a bit difficult here as well. We were lucky and were able to find a spot each evening we returned but noted the last night they had blocked off an entire row in front of our building with no signage or notice. We will probably try a differnent hotel next time we head to San Diego.

This is the perfect weekend getaway destination for couples. The Wife and I enjoyed the relaxing room and plush king bed. The staff was extremely polite and helpful. All in all a great experience.....

The location was in par with what I was expected. The price was in par of what I expected. There was the amenities I expected. The team from the front desk to the restaurant were fun, engaging, and nice. The housekeeping were welcoming and nice. I definitely will come back again. Maybe the turn off was certain guests within my area that made it uncomfortable. Either than that, I loved this place. This is too quaint.

This hotel was delightful. Not fancy but an amazing value for the price. Harbor Island is tiny and interesting. Very thin strip of land. The hotel location is water, rock, public grass and sidewalks and benches. Then the road, the private parking lot (paid, reasonable $), the hotel, then water, harbor with boats. The rooms are small but clean and decorated with some character. Our ceiling was wood and beams painted white. The doors to the rooms open to the outside. There are 2 stories with stairs. I was ground level and could park my car in front of my room and see the water across the street. I kept thinking I was right on the water for cheaper than some generic hotel in Mission Valley. I am very happy with my choice. The little restaurant had large windows overlooking the boats and an outdoor bar and swimming pool area. I did not eat there so I can't speak to the food. The desk staff was very friendly. Like a nice clean motel but funky and interesting and on the water. Awesome!

The Island Palms is a great little gem in San Diego. We have stayed there many times over the last 10 years. Its in a lovely setting on Shelter Island, close to the airport. They don't build hotels like this anymore. The only thing I would suggest is to upgrade the plumbing fixtures. They all work fine, but are clearly in need of replacing. Our most recent stay was during May of 2021, so the pandemic was still in its (hopefully ) final moments. The Island Palms is a great place to stay..it just needs a little TLC...screen doors that open and close easier...little things. We will be back !

We wisely selected a second floor Casa Del Mar Water View room facing the quiet marina. The deck was inviting and comfortable. Everything you need is a short walk away. I recommend an early morning walk around the island.

I've been staying here approximately 4 times a year for a training conference. The location can't be beat. Marina on side and the bay on the other. Great for walking for jogging. Lots of fine dining in the area and the restaurant on site is pretty good. Every second story room has a good view of either the bay or the marina. Every once in a while the navy helicopters across the way can get a bit noisy but they usually shut down around nightfall.

This hotel was amazing. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I would recommend that you get a room with a view of the water. It was so nice to see all the boats every morning. The hotel was in a great location directly across the street from the bay. There are several restaurants near by and it is a 10 minute drive to the airport.

This location is a really nice location for a Best Western. Also, it is clean and the rooms are very comfortable. I will stay again at this location when I am in San Diego. Only issue can be parking when it is really busy since the hotel does not seem to enforce parking permits.

Staff was very accommodating and helped us with parking issue. Was a fast check in and chack out amd beautiful overlooking the ocean and marina. Highly recommend this stay it was a great surprise for us when we arrived and during our stay

Our room was filthy! The carpet was stained and the charging station on the desk didn't work. Our building was missing an exterior door handle and the fireplace at the pool didn't work. When I called the front desk I was put on perma hold.

Boat Marina in back, Bay across the street out front, with a smaller beach. Great views. Friendly attentive staff, the restaurant was great. The Chicken quesadilla was amazing would highly recommend it!

I enjoyed immensely my stay at the Best Western Plus Island Palms in San Diego. This is a beautiful location with good access beaches, SD Zoo, Sea World. I highly recommend this hotel for business or family pleasure.

This was our second stay at this property. We thought we booked a marina view room, but were given a room next to the parking lot. No other room was available to move to and hotel insisted we booked a "non view room". Room was large but could be updated. Carpet did not seem clean. Had VERY noisy people directly above us. Hotel restaurant was still not allowing dine in -- carry out only. No free breakfast is offered. Only coffee in room, no tea bags. Property needs security to walk property at night to keep noise down. Our stay four years ago was much nicer.

We had a great experience using Island Palms. We had four rooms. Great views. Nice staff. The only downfall-the heater would not work consistently. And we had no kitchenware for our bigger suite. And we were given late notification of our room availability.

Beautiful location for this hotel on the Marina. Navy ships are visible passing by the bay. It's a quiet part of Shelter Island in San Diego which I loved. We had breakfast at the restaurant both days we were there and it was superb!

Beautiful scenery suites are just perfect and roomy. $18 for parking! Restaurant was okay but many great options nearby with amazing views. Boat rentals nearby ... Will go back because of the location!

I was not happy with the surprise fee . I received an email with my total . Then got a new total 2 weeks later of an additional $300 I've stayed here twice in less than 6 months . There won't be a 3rd time . Manager on duty said oh well thank you .

Was pleasantly surprised by amazing front desk staff, but immediately let down by condition of guest room. Extremely noisy (noise transfer between rooms) with almost every surface needing TLC. Paint chips, scuff marks, stains, carpet worn out. This facility could be excellent, but the ownership needs to invest in the rooms. We ultimately checked out one night early due to our concerns about cleanliness and noise and went to another hotel in San Diego that was far nicer/cleaner/amenities for $10 less per night.

This is a hidden gem. Bed was comfortable bathroom shower clean. Room was right across from bay and gorgeous view of downtown San Diego. Normally I travel with Lysol spray, Orange cleaner, and Clorex wipes to wipe down room bed bathroom toilet and this room didn't require all that extra you could smell disinfectant and staff took time cleaning. If your looking for peace and rest this is a nice place. It's an older property that is well kept. We visited the restaurant onsite and even though limited staff working we never felt unattended too. The view from restaurant seating outside the bar area has views of the bay where the boats are parked and just overall nice ambiance. Didn't experience bugs, bed bugs, or dirt from floor. The only disbelief was seeing other hotel guest be dirty with not throwing their trash into trash. Overall as I like small hotel feel with quality this is a for sure I will return. The room has a microwave and small refrigerator which is perfect for small snacks storage. So definitely wasn't overpriced either for my days stay. It's located on the other side of the bay from downtown San Diego not the hustle bustle of crowds. Simply loved being able to walk across to access walking trail and bay with sand and fire pits first come first have. Will definitely stay again. There are a few rooms available with patios.

Check-in and check-out was a breeze. The wait is never more than 5 minutes. Tyler at the front desk is especially helpful and friendly. Hotel grounds and pools are clean and welcoming. Room is small but adequate.

We made a last minute decision to visit San Diego and we chose the Island Palms as they had a room with a kitchen. I was happy to see they were not price gouging as we have experienced on the Central Coast of California. They do charge $15.00 for parking in an unsecure parking lot, which is unnecessary. They did not charge a resort fee. The hotel is on Shelter Island. This was our first time staying on Shelter Island. We have now stayed in each of the different areas of San Diego, and this was one of our favorites. The hotel has rooms that have a bay view or a marina view. We chose the bay view as I wanted to see boats coming and going, rather than boats sitting in the marina. It was a good choice as it was very noisy, at night, in the Marina. Also, we ran across someone smoking weed on the walkway along the marina, though the property is non-smoking. The smell permeated throughout the building. There is a road between the hotel and the bay, so you are not directly on the water. There is a lovely walkway and a fishing pier. My husband served in the Air Force and we could see the planes leaving the navy base on Coronado Island from our balcony and our room. While the planes are loud, the flights are not continuous, but rather random, so the noise isn't aggravating. To us the noise is a reminder of those in the military sacrificing their lives for us. The bay view balconies are not private and they are not at the front of the building. They are set adjacent to the walkway and door of one's unit. They hold a table and two chairs. One can see the sunrise, but not the sunset. Unfortunately I am giving the hotel 3 stars due to their allowing partiers to continue to party after repeatedly being asked to shut down the party; the lack of trained security; the maintenance and cleanliness of the room; lack of sufficient personnel. Our biggest complaint is the hotel being used as a party place and the thinness of the walls. The noise comes through the wall vents. On Friday night young people checked into the neighboring room. At 9:30 PM the music was turned on and it was bass heavy. Quiet time at the hotel is 10:00 PM to 9:00 AM. There are handouts at the front desk advising guests they are given one noise warning, the 2nd warning all non-guests are asked to leave, and the third warning, they will be evicted with no refund. By midnight we had complained 3 times. The party was shut down, but at 5:00 AM the partiers started noisily leaving. I complained to the manager the next day and I was told the group was checking out. Unfortunately the next night new partiers came in. At 7:00 AM kids started screaming in the room adjacent to our bedroom. Kids were skateboarding down the middle of the parking lot, making it difficult to back out of one's parking space. Guests in a downstairs unit had their door open and loud music on. Their pit bull escaped their room and the group went outside and started using the F word quite loudly in front of their children. There were three of us in the Bayview King Suite. It had a full kitchen and one bathroom. We found the room had a musty odor and my daughter stated it smelled near the sofa, as though something had been spilled, and it had soured. The sofa bed had sheets, one extra pillow in the closet, but no blankets. I called at 10:45 PM and asked for a blanket. I had to call twice, and I was told there were only "2 people working". 35 minutes later security delivered the blanket. When the sofa bed was opened we found food on the ground between the mattress and the back of the sofa. The springs on the sofa bed were broken. The following day we asked housekeeping for a vacuum. The sweet housekeeper came in and apologized advising the sofa's are too heavy to move. She vacuumed up the mess, obviously left by kids who had previously used the sofa bed. Due to Covid the hotel puts the dishes for the kitchen in a large Rubbermaid type container. Unfortunately there was food encrusted on the plates and the silverware. We don't know if the hotel is cleaning the dishes, or if they were cleaned by the last guest. If the hotel is cleaning the dishes they should put a sticker indicating they are clean, and they need to do a better job checking the cleanliness of the dishes before putting them in the container. The blow dryer smelled like it was burning when used, and it made a strange sound, so we took it to the front desk to exchange the dryer and housekeeping brought us another blow dryer. In the middle of the night either the refrigerator, or the AC went on and it started out a low rumble and it ramped up to a roar. The hotel has two swimming pools, and 2 tennis courts. There is a restaurant. Breakfast is not included with the hotel room, which is fine with us as we typically find hotel breakfasts are tasteless. This hotel has many amenities we enjoy. It is in a scenic and walk friendly area. Unfortunately they need new management who controls the property rather than turning control over to the guests.

The hotel is great and fantastic location close to everything. Danny at the front desk went completely above and beyond for us. The housekeeping was on point. The pool was also amazing nice and warm..

The exterior is very pleasant and the view is amazing. It is very quiet and I loved that we had a balcony so every morning we got to see the ocean. The pictures don't do it justice as it was better looking in person. I went with my significant other and we spent most of our time out of the hotel so for the price we paid it was worth it. (As a best western member) Only complaint would be that I had to wipe down the tables because they were visibly dirty like cup rings & the bed was not too comfortable (very hard).

We enjoyed the view of the boats, people walking and the music of Reveille across the way at the Navy Base. It was conveniently located next to many restaurants including those we ate at in the Marina.

This location is beautiful. Water on both sides. Well appointed rooms. Extremely friendly staff. Gorgeous views. Comfy beds. We will forever come to the Island Palms! You can eat the value. This place needs us down

Very nice location and easy to access on shelter island. Check in was great, we were helped by Danny who was enthusiastic and helpful, he explained everything and answered all our questions. The room was clean, modern and had a great ocean relaxing feel. We had a side room with a balcony waterfront view, which was nice. This location offered free bike rentals, so we took advantage of that. We went down in the afternoon and were helped by Kyle who also was enthusiastic and helpful, he explained everything and let us borrow the bikes. That night we wanted to use the hot tub. We went to the pool area in the Casa Del Mar building. All I can say is wow the view and area was amazing. It is an enclosed area with clear walls and a gas fireplace. It is elevated a little and you can see the entire waterfront, all the boats and houses dimly lit. In the morning there is a breakfast to go bag, which is standard at any Best Western these days. I really hope all Best Westerns go back to full breakfast once the pandemic is over. We were helped again by Danny who again delivered top notch customer service. If we are in the area we will definitely choose this Best Western again.

Wonderful 8 days stay! First time starting at a Best Western in a long long time. Very impressed! Front desk associates were always friendly and very helpful. Due to COVID restrictions restaurant wasn't open but in the morning they had a coffee bar set up along with a Nice grab-n-go breakfast. Will definitely stay here again.

My husband and I came for an impromptu mini vacation to Point Loma in San Diego. We are diamond members and have stayed at Best Western's from here to kingdom come, from the great to the " how can they call this a BW?" And I must share that this is by far out favorite. The room was spacious, the view excellent and the bed was awesome but the best was Clinton at the front desk who really took the time to go the extra mile and make as well like to call it " magic happen" . Bravo all the way around to this Best Western.

We had the best time staying here! Everything from the view outside of our room to the personal service we received the minute we arrived until we left was fantastic! We can't wait to plan our next trip!

We loved our huge room with kitchen and view of the boat marina! There are tons of windows and even a door out onto a patio and path along the water. 2 pools and restaurant was open as well. We would go back.

This has been my favorite place to stay whenever I come to San Diego! I was lucky enough to find a room available when booking a surprise trip for my girlfriend over Valentine's Day weekend! Pulling up to the lobby we were greeted with a beautiful view of the sunset over the San Diego harbor and knew we were in a for a special weekend. We had a warm and welcoming check-in with Leidy who had our keys ready and waiting for us upon arrival. Kyle made the booking process as smooth as could be and put us in a marvelous room which featured a gorgeous view of the Marina. We had a delicious breakfast while soaking up the sun out on the Blue Wave's patio which overlooks the Point Loma Foothills. Our server Stacey provided terrific service! Walking the area around the hotel we enjoyed all the beautiful surroundings and charming Shelter Island atmosphere. We had an amazing dinner at the scenic Bali-Hai, delicious chocolates from The Elegant Truffle and swung by Humphrey's for cocktails at sunset. The Best Western Plus Island Palms is truly special, and my compliments go out to General Manager Bob Levine who has done a marvelous job of providing a Covid-safe environment for his guests while providing unsurpassed service and a truly unforgettable experience. Throughout our stay every was smiling and genuinely happy to be able to enjoy such a magical place. Thank you to the entire Island Palms team for providing us such an outstanding stay! We cannot wait to come back!

We had a wonderful time staying here, like we always do. You cannot beat the views looking out at the Marina, Downtown, and the San Diego Bay. They made us feel very safe (Covid-19) so that was nice. Very clean. Great Staff, Great View, Great room with a view!

Great trip from check in to check out. Views are lovely. Our room, 123 was perfect. Right on the water in the Marina Enjoyed watching the boats coming and going. Super quiet and very walkable. Opportunities do rent for a fee: paddle boards, kayaks and boats. They had bikes to borrow for free. Restaurant on site which is always nice along with the a bar. Or walk a little bit and hit up some of the other restaurants on the island. LOVED this location and hotel.

Enjoyed our stay. Customer service was good. I would rate this hotel five stars but unfortunately after our dinner we arrived to the hotel & found no parking available. We ended up parking across the street. lol

They told me to give them a credit card to hold the room it will not be charged. Then they charged the card 4 days before I arrived. When I arrived they never said I was pre charged so the told me they needed a card to charge the room. When I called the reserve they informed me I had to check with the hotel. I did and was informed I would be getting a refund in 4-5 days no apology nothing they just said ops and goodbye. So I am waiting to see if the credit my account.

Promised a tub in room and hot tub(bad back) got neither at check in. My last called to correct and they said sorry nothing they could do. I then had to call sales team and they were able to help but it was stressful for vday

We absolutely love this hotel. Since Covid has limited our travels and cut out four cruises, we've opted to stay at the Island Palms every month and have done so for 8 months straight. It's still a getaway, but it's close and it feels very safe. Their cleanliness protocols seem to be very good. We're already booked again for next month!

We booked a trip to San Diego back in July 2020 when most things in our state had opened back up. By January, many places had shut down. Because a large portion of our trip was non refundable, we traveled and figured we could be by ourselves in San Diego as well as we could at home. When we arrived the hotel was lovely - and huge! It stretched on for an entire block. I paid a reasonable amount for an upgrade to a suite so that we would have a refrigerator and stove since restaurants weren't open in the area. The room was large, clean, and had very comfy beds. We did have a light in our kitchen that needed replacing as well as some cigarette ash residue someone had left on the exterior wall. Otherwise everything was clean. The location is beautiful- our room had a back door, and when we stepped outside we were just steps from the ocean (bay). At night we sat outside and viewed the sailboats in the bay and the lit up hillside- hard to photograph but quite a lovely view. More ocean across the street with nice parks, piers and walking trails. Shelter Island is a tiny bit inconvenient without a car, but short Uber rides to Balboa Park as well as Point Loma and the ferry to Coronado allowed us to easily visit some the best of San Diego. We definitely will be back when we can appreciate the museums and restaurants!

We had a small issue when we arrived that our room was placed right next to the stair well door and we could hear it every 5 minutes when it slammed. We asked for a different room and they then put us in a room that was not upgraded, smelled bad and the view was bad. I then told them about this and they were so apologetic they put us in a comped suite. This trip was for my birthday and we drove 10 hours so they understood. Never be afraid to stand up for your stay because it's your comfort that matters and they 100% understood that!

Speedy check in, convenient access, views out of our window of the water was phenomenal to see during sunrise and then walk to other side — absolute breathtaking view of the San Diego bay. Room had a sterile sticker which can only broken when someone enters. We felt safe, room was clean and we almost forgot we were in a pandemic and had a grand time.

Stayed for 3 days and 2 nights. Riom was clean and confy. Hallways had that "smell" but i think all hotels do. Views where great. Obviously with the whole pandemic all the amenities where non existent. Only thing i didnt like is that the parking isnt included in your stay. They charge 18 a night to park there. Which would have been nice before i bookeked my stay. Other ten that it was a nice experience:-)

We felt very safe staying in this hotel. Everything was very clean. Yeah the bathrooms are a bit dated but you cant beat the view of the boats and the location is great for taking walks. We will probably be back here again on our next trip to San Diego .

The Best Western Plus Island Palms Hotel & Marina is like a getaway just 15 mins from the downtown center. There are views, water, Ana tranquility. I stayed just a couple days but I enjoyed myself. I got to watch the sunrise and sunset, stroll the marina, and be by the pool.

There was an actual ring of dirt around the bathtub. When they gave us another room the shower had water sloshing around underneath, you could feel the broken floor boards. When we told them, they said they knew about it!

Room was clean and specious. Service was good and friendly. Parking is a problem. People parking wherever they want. Room chairs or seating area could be more comfortable. Views were great and even though the stay was in the middle of a pandemic, people had masks on and hotel seems to be following federal and state cleaning guidelines, which made family feel more at ease.

Perfect place to have a relaxing pandemic staycation. Hand sanitizer readily available everywhere throughout the grounds. Friendly accommodating staff. Beautiful marina views from the balcony. Great part of San Diego to walk around and not be surrounded by crowds. Highly recommended.

We loved our 2 day getaway. Great views, relaxing sounds and attentive staff. I love to take pictures and there are so many opportunities. We listened to revelry, the national anthem and taps from the naval base echoing across the bay both days. (You don't here them in the room- we are out walking at sunrise and sunset)

Love it! See Jeff the bartender at a ge Blue Wave. He makes great drinks! Eat the fish taco - best in town. Swim in the pool - nice and warm. Sit by the fireplace - romantic. Get the Marina view - relaxing.

While times are different with COVID 19 the rooms were clean and I was able to call guest services if we needed any additional towels, cups, or toiletries. The staff was friendly and helpful when we checked in and out. There are great views of the bay and the marina. Our family stayed in a suite with a kitchen. We liked having a full size refrigerator. Their restaurant was opened and we ordered take out one night and enjoyed our meal. My 10 year old son doesn't usually like fish & chips and he like the Fish & Chips from the Blue Wave Bar and Grill.

First room they gave us was dirty. There was an actual ring of dirt around the tub. And the bed had been slept in. They clerk said there was no way for them to know if a room was clean or not. Then when they gave us the keys for the second room they told us to look for the seal on the door that showed the room had been sanitized. So I guess there was a way for them to tell if the room was clean or not. The second room we were given had standing water UNDER the shower. You could hear it and feel it. Once you were in the shower you could feel the broken floor underneath you. When we reported it they said they knew about it! Yet gave us the room anyways. Unfortunately we will not stay here again. With that being said the location is awesome, we will definitely be back to Shelter Island just at a different hotel. They have listed in the amenities that there are bikes available for guests free of charge. We asked if a reservation was needed to secure a bike and the person said "No reservations needed we have plenty of bikes". When we went to check out two bikes there were none. When I asked how many there were I was told 3. I'm not sure how 3 bikes are enough for a resort of 200 plus rooms. Save your money and look for another hotel on Shelter Island.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The 2 queen suite with full kitchen and sofa bed with marina view was perfect for our 3 night stay. We enjoyed long walks in the morning along the Shelter Island Marina or on the Bay side with views of downtown. The location is good for exploring pretty much all the highlights of San Diego. Extremely comfortable beds. The only negative was the lack of some kitchen items due to extra sanitation for Covid-19. But otherwise, highly recommend this resort hotel.

Awesome location! Both sides of the property has amazing views. The grounds are incredible. I love the suite options to make homemade meals for my daughter stationed in San Diego. I have stayed here 3 times and the staff goes above and beyond to make each stay comfortable.

I've been to this property twice now, both times were this year. I hope to return very soon! The location is great! The Junior suite and the Full suite are both very comfortable and roomy! The view on the 2nd floor is amazing, this time we were on the harbor side and it was beautiful! We ate our last meal on the balcony, it was so nice, I wish we would've had more of our meals out there. There's a great place for a picnic right across the street, nice place to take walks or ride bikes along the water.

Love this hotel! If you want the best view of the water, go for the Marina view. Our room was right on the edge of the marina and it felt very private. It was also nice and quiet, I loved that our room was off the main walkway I think that helped. The only part that bummed us out is the pool is not heated (which I totally understand because of the location) and the hot tub was closed due to covid. Neither of these would change my mind about staying here again though. This will be our go to hotel!

We needed to spend the night in San Diego while our pet was undergoing surgery and we stayed here for one night. Danny at the front desk was very accommodating. We had a spacious suite overlooking the marina and we felt very safe. Social distancing, masks and Covid-19 precautions were all in place. We will be back for a longer stay!

Excellent service and cleanliness. Starting at check in and check out everyone was very friendly. We were glad they had bicycles to rent we took advantage of that. The pool was great, clean and warm water.

Whenever we come to San Diego we stay at the Island Palms. The location is great with airport convenience and beautiful harbor and marina views. We've stayed on both sides of the hotel. The suite option with kitchen is a plus for longer stays.

Rooms are spacious and comfy. I loved the views of the bay and Marina. You can enjoy a walk around shelter Island where there are incredible eatery's. Maybe do a little fishing or boating. Overall outstanding

Loved the location and the room. Room was clean. It definitely felt COVID safe. Would stay here again. My only small complaint was check in clerk was not friendly. But beyond that very nice stay. Easy access to almost every where in San Diego. Also clerk never said anything about breakfast options. So I have no idea what they do we went elsewhere downtown.

THe hotel was very nice and everyone was very helpful. This was frist time staying in the bay area. We felt very safe and they had many signs for everyone to wear masks and social distance. The room had a sticker on the door to show it was sanitized, very helpful!

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The room was clean and nice, the views were lovely. Even though there isn't daily housekeeping due to the pandemic, the staff was attentive and very quick to bring anything we needed during our time there. The restaurant on site has a limited menu but the kids meals were delicious and easily big enough to feed 2 kids. There were 2 pools so there was always somewhere to swim even trying to keep social distancing. The staff was friendly, everything went well. Really happy to have found this.

Good stuff: Nice room, hand sanitizer dispensers everywhere, Blue Wave restaurant food good. Bad stuff: $18 for parking which was not disclosed in booking. Area jammed with beach goers who were not using Covid 19 precautions. Receptionist neglectful...did not call when room was ready as she promised, even after 4PM checkin.

This was a nice central location, easy access to freeways and local attractions. It was a nice room with a big bathroom and a balcony with partial view of the mariner. Check in was fast and the staff were super friendly and professional. Obviously service of the rooms is changed because of COVID, as expected and fine, however the room smelt musty, damp when I entered - possibly an issue with the AC. No cleaning of the rooms also meant coffee supplies were not replenished so ask for more upfront is you are staying more than one night. Room decor was okay but I have stayed in nicer at this price point. The fridge was old and inside door was rusty. It's the details you notice.

Kyle, and I believe it was either Jessica or jasmine in reservations were phenomenal help, Stacey at Blue Wave was so attentive and sweet towards my husband and I. We only stayed one night but the room we stayed in is perfect, the view we had of the marina at night was wonderful to see coupled with how quiet it was. My husband and I both agree we will definitely be coming back for our staycations. Our first time to Shelter Island and I couldnt have asked for a more relaxing time.

I had reservation for Water View room and I have paid for it. Front desk person has given me room on the Marina View side without any explenation. When I told him that I already paid for Water View, he told me that in his opinion water is on both sides. He was unplesant and arogant. When I told him that I am not accepting Marina View side and I will call the Best Western Headquater Office he finally gave me Water View room for which I already paid for.I came to rest and enjoy beautiful San Diego. I do need any problems with front desk person in your excellent hotel. If he does not know what is the difference between Water View versus Marina View sides, he needs more training. If he did it on purpose, then this is the management problem.These situations happened couple of times for me in your hotel (BW Plus Island Palms Hotel & Marina San Diego) but never in the another branch. I already made reservatin for in your hotel in February 2021 for four nights and I hope that during my check in, I will not meet this arogant and rough person again. Sincerly, Jozef Baran.

Took a two night trip to the San Diego area and stayed at this Best Western due to a previous stay. The mini suite we booked was great, spacious and comfortable. Had a slight view of the bay and enjoyed the cool breezes in the early morning. The afternoons and early evenings were unseasonably warm but the air conditioning in the room worked well. The pool was advertised as being heated and it wasn't, a bit too cool for me. Due to the COVID restrictions, there was no maid service and we did not feel the need to request additional items such as towels or shampoo. However, a suggestion might be to either place additional trash containers in the room or a larger one since it was not being emptied. A guest in a room next to us was smoking on the balcony, an issue we encountered on our last visit despite the no smoking rule. Did not use the restaurant or fitness center facilities. This hotel is in an excellent location with nice views of the bay and plenty of areas to take walks or rent bikes. Danny on the front desk checked us in and he is a great employee, welcoming and helpful. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Unbelievable location and views. However; what really made our stay so incredible were the employees of Best Western. They showed us comfort and care throughout our family's entire stay. Thank you for your great service and excellent knowledge of the area.

We were greeted by Daniel at check in. He was amazing. Very thoughtful, friendly and kind. He assured us our rollaway bed would be in the room shortly, before we even made it to the room it was there. The housekeeping staff is also fantastic. The rooms were extremely clean and well prepared, extra towels and linens as requested, were delivered by a very friendly face. I wish I would have caught her name, she was very sweet as well. The rooms are spacious and well kept. Cozy and comfortable linens and beds. Bathroom is also very well appointed. View form the room is spectacular. With the marina on one side and the harbor on the other,you really can't go wrong here. We've been back multiple times since covid and will definitely return soon. Upon check out, we were greeted by Danny, not Daniel. Danny was wonderful as always. He was there for us on our last stay as well. He is very helpful and kind, a little funny too. Stayed here 9/4/2020 to 9/7/2020. The bad: The rooms are dated. The bathroom was dated as well. Bathtub with a tile surround that was moldy and a shower curtain. Who even uses a bathtub with a shower curtain anymore?? Nice patio area attached to the room until the sprinklers turned on getting my wife and I wet, making the area unusable until the sprinklers turned off. Parking was horrible. I was charged $18 a night to park on the hotel property but could not park on the property had to park in a city lot across the street. I addressed this with the front desk after the first night and was told the parking charge would be removed. Upon check out the charge was still on my bill, so to the front desk again and this time the charge was removed. The good: The pool area was open and clean. great location and views of the San Diego Bay and Marina. I would have to think twice about staying here again. Previously stayed here a a couple years ago and had a great experience this time not so much. Hotel is showing its age and the parking situation needs to be improved.

This will be my go to spot anytime I visit San Diego. I love the location, the hotel is beautiful, the pools are amazing.... Absolutely fantastic. I love being able to walk across the street and walk the trail along the Marina.

I am attempting to repost my review of the Best Western at Shelter Island. I have stayed at the hotel a few times and dine at the Blue wave restaurant. All I can say is if the management does not start asking the pool crashers to leave, the paying guest will not want to be there any more. Each weekend, the same pool crashers with the infant and young children, some with diapers on, occupy and take over the pool. Its noisy and all the trash from the food they bring in to avoid paying for food at the pool side restaurant builds up. The trash containers get trash piled over the tops of the cans, which are emptied late in the evening on the weekends. The hotel is in great location, beautiful setting and the rooms are very nice. The restaurant / bar staff are friendly and quick. The rooms very nice, clean, smell great and are quite comfortable.

We stayed for 5 nights. The weekends had more people than the week nights. Great views of the bay and marina. Food and beverages on site where decent. Covid precautions in line with most other locations.

This is my second time staying at this property. The first time many years ago was fantastic. This time around, meh. There were clearly some mold issues going on in the room as I could see water pockets in the wall by the kitchen sink. It also smelled very musty and I had to air out the room every day or else I would get a headache. The room definitely needs some updating. Furnishings are the same as when I stayed here 10 years ago. The amenities are great but unfortunately were limited due to Covid. Location is fantastic - restaurants galore and you are surrounded by water. It is very nice to sit on the balcony and watch the boats go by. I had issues with security allowing a guest to park her "camp" chair in the garden area and throw cigarette butts in the grass. I thought this was a classy property but they apparently allow that so ugh. I liked the location but I would definitely stay somehwere else on Shelter Island until this property is updated. Also, when they say that a property is smoke-free, they need to enforce this and not allow guests to throw cigarette butts all over. Why have security if they aren't going to enforce any of the rules?

We have traveled the world and have been so frustrated by our limited options these days. We absolutely love this hotel with their views and easy access to local restaurants and fun activities. It's our new fave for sure!

This hotel is our absolute go-to for a quick family trip back to San D being former Pt Loma grads! We love everything about this hotel from the spacious rooms for all 5 of us, the marina view and walkways, the pools are so fun being on the marina, great onsite restaurant, family friendly atmosphere, you just can't help but to enjoy it here. The staff is always amazing and consistently gone above and beyond to make our stay fantastic. Love the location on Shelter Island and how close it is to downtown, beaches, Sea World, and many favorite college eats. Everything is why we keep coming back over and over!!! Andrew S.

We've been staying at the Island Palms for years as my in laws have had a boat docked in the attached marina. We have never had a bad experience, until today. After being in the car with two kids all day we arrived to check in at 4:00 only to be told our room wasn't ready yet and they didn't know when it would be. They said they would call when ready. I eventually went back to the lobby only to find out it was ready and they had forgotten to call me. No offer to upgrade or do anything for our trouble. They did not provide the WiFi access code, I had to ask for our parking placard, and apparently there is some type of grab and go breakfast but we got no information about that either. Our room has a beautiful view, but is in need of repairs. The door sticks and is very difficult to get open. The paint in the doorway to the bathroom is peeling a lot. And the room itself is very small for the amount and size of furniture that is in it. Very disappointed and we are here all week. Abby Brown, Phoenix AZ

This hotel is amazing. It is very affordable, and you would not believe the location. Rooms are comfy, excellent bedding and beds. Beautiful views all the way around. Very friendly and helpful staff. With so much to do in the area, this is a great spot to enjoy a few days away.

I stayed her during Covid times on a trip to San Diego to enjoy my daughter's newborn son. Complaints upfront: this is a motel with cars right outside your door and some partying going on! The rooms need remodeling, whew! Dark and outdated. But old and outdated it may be, the AC works great! Totally worth the stay, The walk down Shelter Island marina every morning was wonderful. One morning I was adjusting my mask, looked up, and there was the USS Abraham Lincoln (Nimitz class aircraft carrier) right next to me! I was thrilled...and I thought a sky scraper had fallen on its side right next to me! The marina is lovely and I enjoyed my coffee every morning on the deck outside as the restaurant was closed to indoor dining. The real reason to stay, in addition to the location, was the wonderful people. They are warm and friendly, and smiles shone even through masks, and service was awesome. No request was too small or too large. The manager said he wanted me to have a perfect stay, and indeed I did.

Highly recommend this hotel. Was looking for a fun place for my birthday and this hotel was the perfect place! Loved the Marina View and beach across the street. Hotel was very clean and had excellent customer service!! And I couldn't believe the price for such a beautiful experience.

We stayed in the Marina View room (thanks to others here for the suggestion) with 2 queen beds and there's one thing everyone should take into account. The rooms are SMALL! It took work not to stub ones toes on the desk chair because it didn't push under the desk. They should remove the rolling chair and use a regular 4 leg one. The room had a wonderful view and was very quiet (unless seagull noise bothers you of course). The carpet was in need of a cleaning or replacement and we had to physically remove the Microwave from it's cubby and set it on a chair to plug it in so we could use it as it was not plugged in and there was no plug close enough. The bathroom is very nice with the tumbled travertine shower, the towels are fluffy and large. Lastly, be aware that there is NO breakfast included as there is at every other B.W. we've stayed at, nor is there any coffee in the lobby just the normal "bleh" single serve in the room.. We were not aware of this when we made the reservation or checked in. They do have a rather pricey restaurant on site though.

I needed to get out of the house and head to the beach. The hotel was priced right and was beautiful! The views were AMAZING. Everything was perfect. We slept so well, first night 10 hours and the second 9 1/2 hours. Normally I sleep ~ 7 1/2. Very comfortable.

Danny was a great front desk host you couldn't ask for a more polite person thank you so much for a wonderful stay and we hope to be visiting again soon the fact that it was beautiful and the best for couples was amazing perfect for families as well

Our family of 3 absolutely loved this hotel. While it is about a 10min drive from downtown San Diego (Gaslamp, Midway, Balboa, etc) the location can't be beat. There are great views of Coronado and the marinas, plenty of great food options within walking distance, and even a small beach in front of the hotel (with plenty of grassy areas for spreading a blanket and enjoying lunch). Just a beautiful area and perfect starting point each day. The room was much larger than expected (we were in the Casa Del Mar building) and though a bit dated, was very clean and comfortable. Plenty of parking, two pools and great views, we'll definitely be back next time we're in San Diego. The staff so very friendly and always wore masks (Covid).

Great value for the cost. Walking distance to great restaurants on Shelter Island. If you like craft beer and seafood this is the walking place for you. Hotel is close to the marina, walking and biking trails and kayaks for rent nearby.

Location and view were great. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Offered great recommendations on where to eat. Check In and check out was very quick. I will definitely come back to this location as it was close to everything

My family love's the Best Western Plus Island Palms. Grounds are well kept, friendly staff, well appointed suites, 2 pools, close to fast food and restaurants. this was our second stay and will diffidently be going back. Being it is a BW Plus you usually get breakfast this property doesn't give a free breakfast. On site Blue Wave grill has great fish taco's.

This was our second trip to San Diego where we stayed at the Island Palms. We liked the first trip so much we came back to the same hotel. The location is perfect with the bay view on one side of the hotel and the marina on the other. Ideally located near the beaches, Balboa Park, Little Italy, Point Loma, the Embarcadero, The USS Midway tour and many other areas. Looking forward to our next stay.

This place was a great place to stay. It was clean, and the staff was super friendly (especially Danny). There were bikes available for us. The location is close to the water, shops, and restaurants. I would definitely stay here again.

at the first you see everything wonderful and very nice ......but going in to our suite was very stressing to have to deal with broken pipes and not being able to have our second suite ready. WE booked for 2 days the pool was very nice i guess becase is near by the lobby. The rooms definetly need to be renovated grand suite and queen suite. the staff was very friendly. But the owners need to get on renovating this plac asap. i took my family to have a nice vacation having "The best suites" so I thought and endup very stressing.....no vacation for me but my the kids had a good time in the pool! Need some complementary stays on renovated rooms if not i rather stay in a motel. Sad but true!

I'm so happy I was referred to this place. It's beautiful, it has beautiful views, the staff is friendly, and it's quietly tucked away with not a lot of foot traffic around. Aside from the beds that are not as comfortable as I would have liked, I'll definitely be returning!

I would totally recommend this hotel. The staff is friendly and very welcoming. Our room, the property, everything was very clean. I love the location went on walks and walked across to the pier where there was fishing. I enjoyed everything about our stay.

Booked this hotel through Priceline and chose this hotel because it stated it gave free breakfast. This area is a tourist area so everything is expensive. When I arrived Best Western told me they do not serve free breakfast. I ended up spending over $100 on me and my guest for the two days I was there on breakfast. VERY disappointing. Its ok if you are a hotel that doesn't serve free breakfast but DON'T falsely advertise free breakfast and then when your guests arrive drop the bomb. Wont be staying here again.

We stayed for two nights and were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. We got a great price and the hotel was nice and quiet. The pool area was relaxing and pleasant with a view of the marina which is locked and private and quiet. Across the street is the inlet to san diego harbor from the pacific and we saw dolphins and the bike path for walking was nice. Its a bit of walk to shops and several miles around the bay to downtown but the view of the city is nice from the bike path across the street. The room and hotel area was clean and well maintained the beds were comfortable. The landscaping was pretty with lots of hummingbirds on the bird of paradise flowers. This is a smaller hotel really relaxing and quiet with a beautiful slightly out of the way location but lots of parking easy right near your room.

Excellent location for visiting San Diego. View of water and Marina. Good parking, and a quite location. Easy to get around to all the things you want to visit. The front desk people are very helpful, and friendly, also the servers at the grill, and bar.

We stayed for 3 nights at this hotel, just as San Diego was starting to shut down because of covid19. The place was therefore pretty quiet, but we really enjoyed our stay. We had to change our booking at the last minute, but emails sent to the hotel were answered quickly and helpfully even though we'd booked through a third party. We had a 2nd floor room in the Casa Marina building overlooking the marina. I'd always choose marina over water view, as the water view has a car park, road and another car park between you and the view! We loved sitting on the balcony and watching the comings and goings. It's a nice stroll along the pathway between the buildings - ours was the furthest away from reception/bar/restaurant but this wasn't an issue at all. The car parking was my only gripe with the hotel. They charge $15 per night when parking across the street is free. This wasn't explained on check in and so we were hit with an unexpected bill for the first night... then I read some reviews on here and we moved the car after that. It's a little bit cheeky. Maybe it's something which can be relaxed at quiet times? The location on Shelter Island is great. It's about a 10 minute drive to downtown San Diego. We found the whole city to be really easy to get around and were impressed with the amount of free parking available - Old Town, Balboa Park and on street parking is free on Sundays. We'd definitely stay here again when we come back to San Diego.

A great location for watching military aviation, naval vessels and yachts. This hotel has had some updating, but is showing its age. Conversations can be heard from the contiguous rooms, do it's best to get a top floor to start with. Some buildings have two floors and one building has three floors and most of the buildings have elevators. Both of the front or back rooms provide nice water views. I noticed noise coming from bathtub drain when the neighbors used their bathroom facilities. We also encountered some occasional sewer gas smell as well. Our king bed room seemed pretty clean and we were supplied with six pillows. I found the bed to be comfortable. The bathroom is adequate but is somewhat small. The hotel has a bar and restaurant and the restaurant has good food. They close fairly early, generally around 9 pm. We lodged in the “fountain building” and the ice machine near our second floor room didn't work. I noticed that area also needs housekeeping cleaning attention.

On Shelter Island a nice location, more built up than I expected and not a quiet location. It is near Naval base and helicopters buzzing around from early till late. Stayed four nights so that was a bit annoying. A 2-story motel more than a hotel as access to rooms is from outside not via reception. Balcony water view room, well, we could see the water, just. Over the road and carpark and if we dodged around the tree branches but yes it was there. Nice reception area. Parking $15 per night is limited so wont always get a space near your room. Free parking over the road for 48 hours if you are not staying long, I would drop off bags then park over there. (not covered but level and in sight of hotel) Sink outside bathroom area, not my favourite lay out. Small safe but too shallow to be useful. Comfy bed but soft pillows We had dinner in the Blue wave and breakfast but found service to be rubbish frankly. Food ok and at least on china crockery and real cutlery unlike a couple of other BW+ we have stayed in recently, all using disposable plates cups and cutlery, but still had paper in room for coffee and had to keep asking for coffee refills for the room Nice area for a stroll, good couple of sculptures. We ate up the road at Kona Kai, better food and service.

We had a long layover, and decided to book this hotel using points with American Express. The airline took our 10 hour layover and turned it into 5 at the last minute which wouldn't have been such a problem if we weren't traveling with a 2-year old. Brandy checked us in at midnight - gave us tips on food, ordered extra blankets for the baby's crib and when we went back to check out 4.5 hours later she went out of her way to get warm milk for my daughter before the restaurant opened. We were extremely grateful and impressed. The room for 4.5 people was tiny but again (free with points) and it was clean and located in a really serene marina. The location of the hotel is peaceful and has quick access to the airport. Thanks again Brandy!

We really enjoyed this hotel. Just a bit removed from the city. A quick drive to downtown on Harbor Drive. The hotel is water or harbor view with 2 pools and on-site restaurant. There are lots of great seafood restaurants nearby. The only downfall is the parking charge but there is free parking right across the street.

Thoroughly enjoyable stay at an old-school hotel on Shelter Island. Great location if you're into boating or just watching boats and ships. Marina-side rooms are quieter than street-side rooms. But the streetside isn't terribly noisy to start with. Room is spacious, beds were a bit soft for my taste but probably fine for others. Staff is efficient and friendly. Check-in and check out was a breeze.
