"A Decent Hotel Stay!"
KennedysMomma, 29 Septembre 2026

My husband and I recently stayed at the Dextro Hotel in San Diego and overall had a very pleasant experience. One of the first things we noticed when walking into the hotel was how wonderful the lobby smelled. It immediately created a fresh and inviting atmosphere. We were also greeted by very pleasant and welcoming front desk employees, which made for a great first impression. We stayed in Room 910, which had two queen beds and a nicely sized bathroom. The room was comfortable and overall very nice. However, the carpet did have a noticeable odor and seemed like it could benefit from a deep cleaning or shampooing rather than just routine vacuuming. We also noticed a rectangular metal piece propped against the wall inside the shower. We weren't sure what it was or where it was supposed to be attached, so this may be something maintenance needs to address. Aside from those two issues, we enjoyed our stay. The hotel has a welcoming atmosphere, the staff was friendly, and we were comfortable throughout our visit. I would recommend the Dextro Hotel to others visiting San Diego and would consider staying here again, just not in room 910.

"Great home base to explore the city"
dancing_girl14, 26 Septembre 2026

Went to this hotel over Labor Day Weekend for 2 nights. It is within walking distance to many things, and we took the train down from North San Diego County and never needed a car the entire weekend. There is construction going on in the street right outside the hotel making it very unsafe to walk in certain sections. You have to actually walk in the very busy street to get through it. This is a city issue, however, and not a hotel issue. There are many restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, etc all within walking distance. Our hotel room looked over the freeway, but was a quiet room. We had a king bed, and one chair. We did need to ask the front desk to please bring us a desk chair since ours was apparently missing. It was in our room when we returned later that night. The bathroom and room were both clean. The lighting in the room was pretty dim, but ok. We could see the pool directly from out window. It sits on the corner of the property and had maybe 4 lounge chairs? We only saw 2 people use it the entire time we were there and they only stayed about 15 minutes. It is not a fancy resort hotel. The front desk was helpful and competent. The coffee in the lobby was good, but when it ran out, it took a LONG time for it to be refilled. The kitchen should always have a replacement pot brewing and ready to go. I would recommend this hotel if you plan to be out and about and not actually spending your time at the hotel. We walked to Balboa Park, Little Italy, the Gaslamp District and to the train station from the hotel with no issues.

"Solid Little Italy stay until the fees pile up"
maxnicetrip, 17 Septembre 2026

The Dextro sits in Little Italy — not right on the water, but a reasonable walk to it, and the neighborhood itself is great. That location plus one outstanding employee were the highlights of my stay. The good: Glitzey at the front desk was fantastic — efficient, warm check-in and always patient and helpful with any room or service questions. On the day breakfast was comped, the food was genuinely good with a nice selection. The not-so-good starts at arrival: Parking runs $45/night (a $35 discount doesn't fix it), which is more than the public lot across the street — so that's where I parked. That's backwards. On top of that, Ubers kept parking parallel across spaces at the hotel, blocking spots in the lot. In the room: No microwave, inconveniently placed outlets, and a TV stuck at 720p with muffled speakers that randomly shut off. Housekeeping removed my coffee creamers without replacing them. At checkout: Breakfast carries a premium fee for what's essentially the same continental spread other hotels in this chain give away for free. Like parking, it left the stay ending on the wrong note. Getting around: The main exit funnels you onto the freeway only, and the water view faces a Marriott that blocks the sunset entirely. The bones of a good hotel are here. But when parking and breakfast cost extra — and both cost more than readily available alternatives — it doesn't feel premium, it feels like the property is squeezing every dollar. Bundle both into the room rate and fix the in-room basics, and this could be an easy recommend. Until then, I'd shop around.

"Leaking ceiling, no solution"
Steve G, 30 Juillet 2026

My friend and I stayed here during San Diego Comic-Con in a room with two queen beds. The hotel itself was fine, but on Friday night our room developed a major ceiling leak that left a large amount of water on the entryway floor. Front desk and maintenance staff came up, confirmed the leak, but because the hotel was sold out, the only room available was a single king, which didn't work for us. We were told we could switch rooms the next day, but when maintenance returned the following morning (after the leak had stopped), they claimed there was no leak. That evening the front desk again offered only a single king room and acted as though the leak had never happened until I reminded them that two employees had witnessed it the night before. Fortunately, the leak never returned, but no real solution or compensation was ever offered. I understand a sold-out hotel limits room options, but even a partial discount would have shown some concern. Instead, the only suggestion I received was, "We can give you more towels." At checkout I asked about compensation, but the manager wasn't there. I was told the manager was supposed to call me, but I never received a call. Based on how this situation was handled, I won't be staying here again.

"Great place to stay"
Adriana M, 22 Juillet 2026

Checked in, friendly staff from the start. Our room was ready, clean, great view, big TV. Our room had 2 comfortable queen beds. The room also comes with shampoo, conditioner and shower gels. The area we stayed in was quiet, no loud traffic, no loud guests, got a good nights sleep. I did like that there are security measures in place such as needing a key to use the elevator and entering the secure parking areas. Thank you for the hospitality!! We will be back.

"Gem Near Little Italy"
Caroline B, 11 Juillet 2026

We enjoyed all aspects of our stay. The front desk was courteous and kind. Check in and check out were smooth and effortless. The hotel was about a 10 minute drive from the airport. They included a hot breakfast which included eggs, sausage, potatoes, for no additional cost. It was delicious! The dining staff was exceptional. They made sure to attend to our needs. We were walking distance to Little Italy! What a bonus! Loved this little hotel, I definitely would recommend it!

"Nickel and Dime the Mess outta you."
Postalsaint, 10 Juillet 2026

Clean hotel. Room was nice. Everything worked in room. Only negative...Thia hotel will nickel and dime the mess outta you. Charge extra for everything. Charging for parking is B.S. I don't care if that is the standard for California. you are running a business you have complimentary parking. Overall I would not stay here again.

"This is the place to adventure SD"
FirstHospitalityMKE, 15 Mai 2026

Great staff, even better location. This is a perfect choice of solo, or date weekend in San Diego!

"Friendly Staff Okay Amenities"
Elizabeth C, 04 Mai 2026

The lobby appeared clean, had a small, but decent size seating area. The breakfast buffet was the typical buffet breakfast included at many hotels, they had pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs and potatoes. Also the hostess offered us juice and coffee too. The cost for us was $20 person, some people have it included in their room fee. The room, was a bit dark ( 4th floor). The overall the room was okay. The only thing is that the tub looks to need a refurbishment or be cleaned better. I wore my beach shoes to take a shower, but the water was backing up, so it was a defeat effort. My husband took out the stopper and the water flowed freely after that. The hotel is a short walk to the many restaurants in the area. The staff we encountered at the front desk, and in the dining area were friendly and accommodating.

"Good experience great people"
Pioneer62318215561, 03 Avril 2026

The front desk attendant Litzzy was super nice and attentive and went above and beyond to help us. Emma from housekeeping was very nice and very helpful.

"Spring Break getaway - Good bang for your buck - mid-tier hotel that wont break the bank"
Lee D, 17 Mars 2026

Lots of mixed reviews online for this hotel - and all make sense now - there is a lot going for and against this place. Pros: 1. The staff were great, very attentive and always happy to help with any room needs we had - the team at The Dextro are one of its finest assets and we appreciated them. 2. Location is decent - just 10 minutes walk to Little Italy main strip (India Street ) which has many great restaurants and a cool vibe, too. The hotel is also within a reasonable walking distance to the amazing Balboa Park (1.5 miles) and awesome USS Midway (1.3 miles) - two highly recommended spots to see for anyone looking to keep up their step count and take in some culture. 3. The room was clean and the beds were actually very comfortable (bed snob here!). Granted, the bathroom could do with some updates but it was fully functional for our needs. Cons: 1. The outdoor pool needs cleaning / cleaning more frequently - we used the pool once and it was full of leaves and dead bugs - I ended up getting the net off the wall to give it a mini clean myself (!)- needless to say, we didn't use it for long. 2. Decor - the hotel has had some uplift in parts but still has a tired look and feel about it. 3. Breakfast cost - we couldn't bring ourselves to pay $20 per person for breakfast - a family of 4 (2x adults + 2x kids (ages 13+11)) would be $80 for a basic breakfast - we wouldn't get value for money from that so brought food in or went out each day. I'd recommend the hotel considers more options on pricing for breakfast if it wants more guests to take up on it - e.g. a child value option. All in all, this hotel was value for money - no frills but reasonable.

"Find another hotel."
reginam113, 15 Mars 2026

Room smelled like dirty feet! Window faced the parking lot and a stairwell used 24/7. The gate banged 24/7 on the stairwell. Room was dark and dreary.

Owner Response, 15 Mars 2026

Dear Reginam113- Thank you for sharing your experience with us — feedback like yours, while difficult to read, is exactly what helps us improve. We sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered during your stay. The odor in your room is something we take very seriously, and we will be following up with our housekeeping team to ensure this is addressed immediately. We also understand how disruptive noise can be, especially around the clock — the stairwell gate is something we will look into right away to find a lasting fix. As for the room's view and lighting, we completely understand how much the overall ambiance of a space can affect your comfort, and we wish we had the opportunity to move you to a different room during your stay. We truly hope you'll give us another chance to provide you with the experience you deserved. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us directly — we'd love to make this right.

"Extremely dubious and disappointing. A 6.0/10.0"
BrookeInTheAirTravel, 14 Mars 2026

Hotel review: DEXTRO Little Italy, BW premier collection hotel Location: San Diego, CA Rate: 550/2 nights Room: king room, bay view 6.0/10 This supposed premier Hotel in the heart of San Diego, 2.8 miles from Balboa Park and about 3 miles from San Diego International Airport (SAN) is not off to a great start. They have no airport shuttle service to or from the hotel which wouldn't be expected from a “standard” hotel. From a premier hotel, the transportation is supposed to be part of the service. The staff were quite nice, pleasant, and overall proficient. However, i found the restaurant pleasant and it's menu artful though the ambiance could definitely be better. The room, though, was inexcusable. From an antique-style heater/AC unit, to exposed wiring along the walls, a bathroom door with no sliding track along the bottom, peeling wallpaper, strange marks along the walls, and zero housekeeping service or room service; the hotel's ambition is there but they let the typical and conventional “low-quality” Best Western mentality influence their interior redesign which is severely lacking. This is not a premium hotel. This is an average hotel masquerading as premium. The exterior and the staff are the only consistent offerings. A 6.0/10.0 final score

"San Diego"
Robert D, 07 Février 2026

This hotel is in a great location. As a BW roo.s have been renovated and they win awards for cleanliness, comfy beds and helpful staff. Excellent restaurants within walking distance, lose to airport and convention centre.

"Fantastic stay"
Guide780013, 14 Janvier 2026

Fantastic stay. Very clean hotel and amazing staff. Everyone went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and taken care of. Would absolutely return.

"Move onto looking elsewhere as so rude here...see below as the proof"
Nol P, 27 Décembre 2025

Most of my reviews are positive ones! (85% about not kidding). This place at Dextro BW had a very poor attitude guest relations person today (Dec 27) msg me back so rudely and when I only said to make sure to read and not skim read as so many do these days now and as my whole key point was missed. Plus I had to follow up already as no reply for many days before today and before Christmas too even. So yes I was a bit annoyed as it was. I am also a Best Western rewards gold member and wow this is how I was treated today! So here I am reviewing accordingly and not enjoying this. I felt the need to cancel and try and book elsewhere taking a chance at rates to lock in and even though I booked for here months ago! I did manage to get a nicer place! Here is what I got back exact word for word below that set me off to look elsewhere and so rude and all I was trying for was a quiet spot of hotel as I dislike loud obnoxious selfish other guests. I am clean and do not smoke and am never stomping or banging loud! This was why I wanted to ask in the first place and not replied back until I had to write back and ask again. ... The DEXTRO Little Italy, BW Premier Collection Please read this message in full as well. You booked a standard two queen bedroom. These go up to the 9th floor only. You will be offered a room within this range. Floors 10 thru 16 are considered upgraded rooms but since you did not pay for an upgraded room, it will not be offered. Thank you ... (Except for saying the thank you, the rest is so darn rude!) With only so many days to go for my trip there to see the USS Midway and etc, I feel better now booking elsewhere! A much friendlier place who I assume I will give 5 stars to in the end.

Owner Response, 27 Décembre 2025

Dear Nolpreen- Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'm very sorry to hear about your experience and the way our message came across. That is not the impression we ever want to leave, especially with a valued Best Western Rewards Gold member. Your request for a quieter room was completely reasonable, and I regret that our response did not feel helpful or courteous. While our intention was to explain room categories and availability clearly, it's clear the tone missed the mark, and for that I sincerely apologize. We also regret that the delay in communication added to your frustration and led you to cancel your reservation. Your comfort and peace of mind are important to us, and we should have done better in addressing your concern promptly and with more care. Thank you again for taking the time to share this. Your comments will be reviewed with our team to ensure we improve how we communicate with guests moving forward. We truly wish you a pleasant trip to San Diego and hope we may have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future under better circumstances. Best Regards.

"Great stay"
fatima f, 17 Novembre 2025

Great location, 5 minute walk in a safe neighborhood to the Little Italy area which is known for its restaurants and bars with a great weekly Farmer's Market. Other notable areas to visit such as Gaslamp, Hillcrest & Barrio Logan are a reasonable drive away. The hotel is nicely appointed, when you first arrive you see the bar & lounge area that turns into a restaurant for the morning breakfast buffet-which I didn't partake in because I wanted to walk to the different neighborhood options nearby, but what I saw seemed good to me. The hotel pool is across its parking lot with an adjacent gym which includes basic needs. Always at hand were plenty of clean towels. The hotel is 16 stories high and round so your 360° view depends on your room location. In room 1507 I had the city view which included the highway at a short distance. Rooms have a “balcony” but basically just for show and view because you can't step out. They are roomy and well appointed and of most importance clean. Staff were always friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I would definitely stay there again when visiting beautiful San Diego.

"This hotel checked all the boxes!"
Jeremy B, 06 Novembre 2025

From the moment we checked in, everything about our stay felt easy and welcoming. The staff was friendly, professional, and eager to help. They guided us through the parking garage and clearly explained how to get to our room, which made settling in a breeze. The room itself was gorgeous — beautifully decorated with a modern, coastal vibe and incredible views of downtown San Diego and the bay. Waking up to that skyline and the water sparkling in the morning sun was just the best. Everything felt clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed for a relaxing stay. The location couldn't have been better. It was right in the heart of the city, close to all the fun in Little Italy and just a short walk to Seaport Village. Whether we wanted a lively dinner spot or a quiet stroll by the water, everything was within easy reach. I used the gym a couple of times during our stay, and it was convenient, clean, and had everything I needed for a quick workout. The pool area was another highlight — peaceful, never crowded, and the perfect spot to unwind and soak up that classic San Diego sunshine. Another thing I really appreciated was the 24-hour pantry. It was always fully stocked with snacks, drinks, and other little essentials, which made grabbing a quick bite or beverage so easy. It's such a simple touch, but it really added to the comfort and convenience of our stay. The lobby was spotless and had a great atmosphere — stylish and inviting. I didn't get a chance to try the restaurant this time, but it looked like a great place to start the morning with breakfast or wind down with a cocktail at the bar. Next time for sure! Overall, this hotel checked all the boxes: friendly service, beautiful rooms, great amenities, and a location that puts you right in the middle of everything. I'd definitely stay here again and am already looking forward to my next trip to San Diego!

"Great spot for a weekend getaway!"
Sara R, 03 Novembre 2025

Amazing views of the ocean and city! Delicious food and great service. Best sleep I had in months. Lots of things to do around in walkable distances and also driving.

"Clean but lacking"
pa0laglz, 31 Octobre 2025

Stayed at the Dextro in Oct 2025 The hotel is clean. However, several things could improve. It advertizes parking, but 35 dollars per night makes it excesive, could consider other hotels with that cost per night. The bed seems really old and lumpy. Slept badly. Pillows also lumpy. No foam pilows. The A/C malfunctions, even turned off, it doesn't turn off; had to unplug it. We had no drinking water when we arrived. Terrible lighting, even with all lamps on, it is poor. The bathroom also lacks proper lighting. Here there is no shelf in shower so had to leave stuff on the floor. The TP holder is not good, you roll TP and it slips off :S The breakfast buffet offers only scrambled eggs and potatos and ham. Poor for 20 bucks. It looks nice and clean enough, but probably wouldn't return.

"Good experience"
Jessie T, 08 Septembre 2025

Nice... 🙂 Ok let's be real. All the staff was very friendly and the hotel smelled really clean when walking in. Room was clean. The only thing is the TV channels were not registering well you had to click on it to see what was playing. Other then that it was an amazing experience and everyone was very welcoming. Thank you all for your kindness and help.. Cutberto (the bartender) was amazing, he was very friendly and helpful also made good drinks also had a good conversation with not just one person but everyone I was very happy to see that.. Viba (manager) He was very friendly and helpful he communicated with everyone which was nice to see. Antonio (front desk manager) He was very helpful and nice. Communicated with everyone and acknowledge everyone around. Paul ( is one of the front desk clerks) he was very nice and explained the late check out nicely and let us check out a 1 hr late. Much appreciated. The housekeeping staff was really nice. Appreciate them..

"Luxury at a great value & Star staff"
Calton Tamim A, 07 Septembre 2025

Excellent and memorable stay. The hotel and the staff provides a luxury hotel experience with beautiful accommodations and gracious friendly service. Immaculate rooms, great F&B and convenient location.

"One night stay"
Shilo R, 03 Septembre 2025

We had 2 rooms, they couldn't give us adjoining. One was booked through Expedia and the other directly. The rooms are very different the one through Expedia is outdated where the one direct is super updated and much nicer. Staff super friendly but front desk couldn't figure out how to give us adjoining rooms and when she was calling the manager they wouldn't answer but responded via text. Bar staff was very nice as well.

"Great location"
cassiegrl, 03 Septembre 2025

Great hotel. Super clean and staff was wonderful. The lounge/restaurant was nice as well. Great drinks and food. Love the location as well. Walking distance to Little Italy

"Thank You!"
Donna B, 24 Août 2025

A Heartfelt Thank You I want to express my deepest gratitude to Julie Sigua at The Dextros Hotel for going above and beyond in helping us recover a lost soft toy that holds immense sentimental value. Julie not only took the time to search thoroughly and locate the toy, but also kindly arranged for it to be shipped all the way back to us in Scotland. Her kindness, empathy, and dedication turned a moment of distress into one of heartfelt relief and appreciation. We are so grateful for her extraordinary efforts and the care she showed throughout the process. Thank you, Julie — you truly made a difference!

"Great staff, clean, odd bathroom"
Tuckahoe, 16 Août 2025

The staff was so great, everyone was incredibly helpful and friendly. We enjoyed being a quick walk to Little Italy and had several great meals there. The room was small but functional. It was clean and fitted our needs. The bathroom was odd. There was only one hook to hang wet towels and no ledge/shelf in the shower for soap, razors or shampoo. The pocket-door was a little off its track and the lighting was really bad. Would not stop us from staying here again though, overall it was a good stay.

"Follow up to previous 5 star review: Still the best/most comfortable value in the downtown/Little Italy area"
NorthStar20115645196, 14 Août 2025

I've stayed multiple times since they completed the remodel of the lobby/dining and bar area. What was already in my opinion a 5 star stay is now even better! The rooms are super comfortable, the location is great, and the staff is always very friendly, courteous and professional. There is no better value/bang-for-your-buck, this is the best place to stay. I have to give a shout-out to Paul and Littzy, they always go above and beyond, thank you for the great stays!

"Good enough for a few nights"
hawktraveler8, 28 Juillet 2025

It was clean, definitely needs a little upgrading. Bed was comfortable. I got into town early and didn't expect early check in. I dropped off my bags; most hotels will send you a text when your room is ready but this wasn't an option. They said just come back at check in time bc they guaranteed a room then. I also thought it was odd that the few people that were checking in around me later all received low floors-2 or 3. There's 10+ floors so how did we all get low floors? Additionally, you need to remind your hotel staff to not say what the room number is when they give you your keys around other guests. This is basic safety. The gym was wonderful, didn't try the pool but it is pretty small. Not hot tub.

"A terrific hotel that won't break the bank"
NorthStar40492167592, 15 Juillet 2025

The Dextro doesn't offer a lot of amenities and it certainly isn't a luxury hotel. However, it is clean, with a cool retro design. It seems as if it were recently remodeled. It has an amazingly friendly and helpful staff. It is located within easy walking distance of Little Italy. And you simply can't beat the price given its location. I highly recommend it.

"Single woman here. Clean, Safe, Walkable to Balboa Park. I'd stay here again."
Wanderer36617647579, 22 Juin 2025

Nice hotel for the price in an expensive city. The bed was comfortable the bedding, towels, and pillows are very nice. The room was clean. Walkable to Balboa Park (1.4 miles) This Hotel is near a busy freeway. I was on the 15th floor and the traffic sound does die down at night. I'd stay here again. Breakfast is $20

"Poor Quality Stay – Would Not Recommend"
Ashley R, 17 Mai 2025

I chose this hotel thinking it would be a decent, budget-friendly option, but it turned out to be a disappointing experience from start to finish. The entire hotel had a strong, unpleasant smell—like pool water mixed with something stale. It hit me the moment I walked in and never went away. My bathroom had visible mold, which was both disgusting and concerning. The light above the shower was literally hanging down, and the door lock to my room was broken, which made me feel unsafe. It was clear that maintenance is not a priority here, and the overall condition of the hotel was neglected and run-down. The only positives I can mention are the friendly staff and the convenient location. But unfortunately, that wasn't enough to make up for how uncomfortable and unsanitary the stay was. I wouldn't stay here again, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who values cleanliness, safety, or basic upkeep.

"What an amazing experience!"
Desi D, 29 Avril 2025

I want to thank the staff for being great at what they do. They take their time with each Guest to make sure they have the best experience! The front desk people were amazing. The housekeepers all try to open your door, but hey, there's usually 4 of them just trying to get their job done! Even the Valet, one driver his name is Cam, he was great. I don't remember the other guys' names, but they're all wonderful. I stayed here for 4 nights, and I'm just wowed out at the hospitality. I'm from Las Vegas too, so I know alllll about the Hospitality Industry! And of course, the Night Auditors and the security guard were easy to talk to and made the night a bit more fun. Of course I have to thank the GM and AGM for being so hospitable. I will definitely be staying here many more times to come!

"Great Hotel"
VtaTraveler, 26 Avril 2025

This was a great stay. The bed was comfortable, the room roomy, and a great breakfast buffet serviced by two sweet ladies. Matthew at check-in was especially kind and helpful. The views were pretty spectacular from the breakfast on the 16th floor. We'd definitely stay here again.

"Avoid this hotel"
kaiqiz2019, 05 Avril 2025

Hotel Closed without prior notice! According to Marriott, property has been closed since 1/15/24. I booked a Priceline reservation in November 2024 for 1/17/25 - 1/20/25. When I arrived I found the hotel is closed. No one called, text, or emailed me of this closure and cancellation of my reservation. I contacted Marriott customer service directly who was not helpful at all or apologetic for the lack of communication of my reservation being canceled and the hotel closing. The customer service says since I booked via Priceline, then they cannot provide prior notice to the closure. So it looks like the contract between Marriott and Priceline is only for collecting customer's money instead of providing proper service! Very unacceptable and poor customer service from Marriott. They have officially lost my business. Do not book with Four Points or any Marriott property they do not care about providing guests with good service. Shame on you, Marriott!

"Ok for few nights"
Fabio B, 30 Mars 2025

Very close to Little Italy and main transports. Quite noisy as the highway is just behind. It is a pretty old building that requires renovation, which is now happening in the lobby. Overall it's ok for a weekend, the price is not bad, but better than most of the hotels of the area
