Hotels in Rhône

I don't even know where to begin. I booked this hotel based on all the stellar reviews. But when we checked in and got to our room (very late at night due to a lengthy flight delay), I thought there must be a mistake here. I can only surmise that when there are stellar reviews on TripAdvisor peppered with just a few bad ones, that clearly there is a huge discrepancy between the quality of rooms being offered. We booked a superior queen. On the website one of the photos makes it look like there is a floor to ceiling window. In our case, the room had 2 small windows - the only way to look out them would have been to stand on the desk - which I wouldn't dare since it was just a piece of wood anchored to the wall. We felt like we were in a basement apartment - dark and dreary - even though we were on the second floor. The least the hotel could have done would have been to acknowledge the difference in room quality and charged accordingly. Not so the case - we still paid top dollar. The icing on the cake though was the filthy staircase we had to climb after exiting the elevator. Other reviewers referred to how clean and charming the landings and staircases were. Again, we found the total opposite. Maybe it's a function of the floor? We exited the elevator on the second floor and were shocked at how unclean it all was (see photos). Perhaps this part is still undergoing renovation? I certainly hope that's the case. And last but not least, we had but barely a 1/3 of a roll of toilet paper in the entire room. It was as though someone had just checked out and they hadn't replenished the bathroom. Needless to say, we left first thing the next morning. I'm giving the review 3 stars - strictly for the hard working staff. They were all very polite and pleasant and eager to help. I feel badly leaving such a poor review in light of the wonderful staff, but there is no way I would return and feel compelled to share my honest feedback for the benefit of future travelers.

Do not stay here until renovations are completed. Hotel is in total disarray. Plumbers, plasterers, builders, tilers, all there & the hotel is totally covered in layers of dust, smells of fresh paint, exposed cables & wiring spotted, water off at times & constant noise in the day! We were only staying one night & unfortunately arrived mid afternoon, if we had moved elsewhere the moving etc would have wasted our leisure time in Lyon. Nobody in our group of 5 slept for more than an hour or two hours the whole night. I would add that although rooms are generous the new design is very poor! The breakfast was actually very good & well organised. If renovations are completed I would actually recommend the hotel however at the minute it should not be operating for guests. It is an accident waiting to happen. We were not informed of building work even though we booked in January to stay yesterday.

Every person in Hotel De Verdun 1882, Christopher, Leonie, Emily, Musdafa and Anas were super friendly, helpful and enthusiastic. We truly have an exceptional experience staying in Hotel De Verdun 1882. Besides, the hotel location is so great. Room was very clean and nice.

We stayed here for one night whilst travelling through France. It was well-equipped and maintained and the staff were friendly and helpful with a good knowledge of English. Our room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom was modern, clean and well-equipped. We had heard that the hotel parking was limited and accessed by a car lift with some quite tricky manoeuvring so we opted for a nearby carpark which was well located although rather expensive. The hotel itself is well located within easy walking access to the old town, cathedral, bars and restaurants but we felt the area around the hotel looked in need of some regeneration. It wasn't exactly threatening, but the hotel staff said they locked the front door at 10pm (they gave us a key code) and when we arrived back at 9.30pm it was already locked with a rough sleeper encamped outside. No doubt the area is up and coming but perhaps hasn't quite got there yet! Otherwise we were very happy with the hotel and enjoyed a good breakfast before leaving.

Within the next month or two of fall 2026, expect renovations. We were not notified and there was construction dust, cables, building materials, tools and workers underfoot and using the elevator/lift. Luckily, I read someone else's review a day ahead and knew what to expect. It was too late to cancel. The elevator stops on “landings” between floors, so if you are opposed to lugging luggage up and/or down 13 steps, ask for help. We were placed in a tiny renovated room on the first floor, so tiny that my husband's knees touched the door when he used the toilet and he had to open it to buckle up. There was room to only lay out one small to average size suitcase. We asked to upgrade and the reception staff kindly accommodated (without charge) our second day. The staff was wonderful and did their best under the conditions (internet and electricity out from time to time amid the mess and confusion). The cheapest materials were used for the remodel such as plastic shower curtain hooks and spring loaded rods that fall if you tug at all. Plus, the lack of a comfortable chair or two and enough hooks for towels and luggage space, as mentioned. The renovated breakfast room appeared to be nice but we chose to eat breakfast elsewhere. Ice and ice buckets (an American thing) are not available (they were at our hotel in Beaune), but water and coffee dispensers are available in the dusty reception area. A wonderful location near restaurants, shops, and sites. In a larger room and without the mess, we would stay there again. Stars are for the reception staff and the location.

The hotel is a very nice boutique hotel with about 30 rooms. Originally a large rich private home, operating as hotel 100+ years. Fully refurbished about 5 years ago. Nice location. Christophe on front desk is very helpful has been there s long time. Stayed 2 nights as break from Madrid to Milan. Loved the funicular in the old town and Basilica notre dame at top, walking around old town and james joyce irish pub in old town. Ate at Ramen restaurant 1 block from hotel. I saw a self service laundromat 1 block from hotel. Many machines. Back to hotel. Hotel very clean. Contemporary. Comfortable bed and plenty hot water Breakfast is limited but high quality. Easier to eat in hotel in my opinion. Although i rated hotel a 5 , I do have a few negative comments. We prefer to stay in hotels that do not allow pets. The BW website still lists this hotel “as pets not accepted”. We saw a dog there 2 days. We also saw a dog in breakfast eating area. My wife and french woman sitting next to her did not appreciate dog in breakfast area. Also there is no english speaking tv channel. Not british tv or cnn international. Suggest you add at least 1 for english speakers. Owners sent us email but i never had opportunity to meet or talk with owner. I was surprised in small hotel , one of owners not visible. Although I rated a 5, i would not stay again. We prefer no pets in hotel other than service animals and especially in breakfast eating arrangements We were told policy changed 3 months earlier to allow pets. Suggest you change policy back to not accept pets. If not you should update BW website to clearly communicate you now allow pets. Our only issue was the new pet policy that is not to this day communicated on the BW website.

Good location with a short walk to restaurants and city centre. Very close to the river. The rooms and hotel were very clean and spacious. A good place to stay while visiting Lyon.

We had a 3-night stay for work in Lyon (two single rooms #304 and #306from 7 until 10 July 2026). This is a very nice hotel! The team at reception and at breakfast are absolutely lovely - so welcoming and cooperative - and the rooms are compact, functional and very clean. The rooms face the beautiful inner courtyard, which makes them quiet and pleasant for a business trip. The breakfast with hot and cold items is more than enough to start the day, and the small buffet is of very good quality. Thank you for having us at Best Western Crequi Part Dieu Lyon Hotel! We liked the hotel and loved your team and will recommend the hotel to our colleagues for visiting Lyon.
