We stayed here twice for a total of seven nights at the start and end of our trip to the region. Very nice expereinces both times! Sebastian and Lisa at the front desk and Ilene in the breakfast room were a joy to see everyday. It was like staying with friends. There are numerous good restaurants you can walk to in the neighborhood but try to make reservations because they are furiously popular with locals. (And the Lyonnaise REALLY like to eat out with friends!) On Sunday mornings there's wonderful food market along the river two minutes from the hotel. Only downside is that the remodeled historic building's modern elevator stops between floors so you have to walk half flights. Plus there's no parking at the hotel itself, but we always take cabs inside cities so that was no problem for us. Get online tks to any (!) performance at the magnificent Theatre des Celestins which is only two short blocks away.
We've been coming to this hotel for the last 20 years and have yet to be disappointed. Location is perfect, and while the rooms are a little small, they have everything you need and are very comfortable. Hopefully we can keep coming back for another 20 years!!
Lovely quiet room with super thick walls throughout the hotel. Great location for both sides of the city. Restaurants and bars aplenty within short walking distance. Good breakfast selection - eggs, streaky bacon, cereals, pastries, breads, ham/cheese, yogurts, teas and juices, coffees.
No AC and it was very hot on the 5th floor. Yes, we can open the window and it was possible to cool the room, but only a little bit. When the window is open it is way to noisy to sleep.... being right in the middle of bar and entertainment area it is very loud... although being right in the middle of the action is nice too.... but it would be so much better with AC and the windows closed! Other than the excessive heat in the room, the breakfast and room size were okay. The location was great. However due to the lack of AC there is no way to enjoy these things. We asked about the AC and was told that it was closed until later in the season
The hotel is in a great location close to tons of restaurants, cafes, bars and the river. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Room was small as is typical in Europe but clean and served its purpose. The room seemed to be quite warm with no ability to turn the heat down however we could open the windows which cooled the room nicely. Overall we felt it was very good value for money and would return.
The Best Western St. Antoine, Lyon, is beautifully situated steps away from the pedestrian bridge to the old town and steps away from the multitude of good cafes on rue Merciere. Many museums and important sites are walkable. Although small, the hotel has been designed for customer comfort. Our room had a closet, desk, night tables, wonderful shower, tv with one English language channel, mini-bar fridge, and a very comfortable bed. The room was very clean. We don't always take breakfast in a hotel, but the breakfast here was fresh and varied, including a fresh fruit salad each morning offered in a well lit room. Lastly, staff was knowledgeable and accommodating. We would stay here again.
Location is very good, staff are helpful and smiley, breakfast is good, cleanness is good, rooms are small hard to open cases. I recommend and I will chose again if I go to Lyon. Thanks to Halina and Orhan.
The room was quiet and away from street noise. Comfortable bed and excellent shower with strong pressure. The manager was very helpful when we struggled with the safe. Minor issue was the door to the corridor being noisy when closing but you could quieten it with your foot. We had a great 5 days in Lyon, we especially liked the 'Musée des Confluences' which was the best natural history museum we have seen for a long time. Also the museum of the 'frères Lumière' was a revelation, they were making movies as early as 1895 of an incredible quality with surprisingly smooth motion. The 'Musée de l'imprimerie' was another fascinating experience, you learn a lot about early printing and how much it was plagued by censorship from both Church and State. On Thursday Sept 8, when we went out to eat, the great bell of the Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste was tolling ominously. A sound we shall never forget. For whom does the bell toll we wondered. Our beloved Queen. How kind of the French. May we return the favour one day.
We stayed for (1) night in Lyon. This hotel was perfect for a quick stay because it's close to everything! It's a busy area with many restaurants, boutiques, bakeries and even a full grocery store on the street. The hotel staff spoke great English and were very helpful. The apartment was a spacious two bedroom for our family. I would stay here again if ever visiting Lyon.
I do not know why they put a luggage rack in the room, it would either have to have gone on the bed or on the desk. This room was small, small, small. I do not know how they make a distinction between 2 and 3 stars, but room size must not be one of them This was uncomfortable
We arrived here in mid October. The check in was easy. It was still warm but they had decided to turn off the air conditioner so the rooms were a bit stuffy. Depending upon your room location, it might not be practical to sleep with the window open. Some people have rooms right above a noisy dinner place. If you like quiet, you might see if you could have a room in the back. Breakfast was not included and for 16 euro wasn't worth the price. There is a lovely bakery across the street. Location was excellent. Nothing fancy. Rooms small but clean.
This is a reasonably priced hotel perfectly located between Vieux Lyon and the bar district at Presqu'ile. The rooms are small but there is everything one needs for a comfortable stay - good internet connection, comfortable bed and a shower that works well. The front desk staff is very personable and speaks reasonably well english. We had trouble with our rental car and Evan from the front desk really made a difference by helping us out calling the car company several times on our behalf to get assistance. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
The rooms are small but the service of the front desk staff is huge! Clean, comfortable room within walking distance of all the sights, restaurant row and shopping. Perfect location... The front desk staff are amazing! Friendly, helpful, smiling people who made our stay even more pleasant.
the hotel was well located. Close to numerous restaurants, shopping and vieux Lyon. The staff was friendly and very helpfull. In some instances, they went above and beyond. Would definitely stay here again.
We stayed for 1 night and picked this hotel for location and previous experience with Best Western in France. Some reviews were not so good but we couldn't fault anything. A friendly welcome and helpful information, our room was modern clean and with a minbar and good air conditioning (it was during hot weather in France). Breakfast was good and included fresh fruits.
Really good location. Next to the restaurants. Between the rivers. Short walk to the old town. Could walk everywhere. Room spacious and clean and well equipped. Staff good. Only downer was even tough we booked well in advance we were give a room where the window looked out on a wall. Make sure you ask for a room with a street view
Great location just across from the old city near a fot bridge. Staff very welcoming , friendly and helpful with every little thing. Room small but very clean and crisp bedding. Not fancy but a fine stay for a very reasonable price. Definitely would recommend!
This hotel is very conveniently located. Rooms are simply furnished, comfortable beds. Breakfast is available for additional pay, but there is a wonderful bakery across the street and a nice little grocery on the corner where you can buy fresh fruit, yougurt, etc.
Possibly one of the smallest rooms I have stayed in. You cannot walk past the bed without re-arranging furniture. Separate toilet and wash basin / shower, not very convenient. Comfy bed though, on the positive side. The "view" from the window was an indoor shaft, so keeping the drapes shut made sense. Breakfast was decent, but rather poor choices.
perfect location in the heart of te island, with pedestrian bridge within feet to cross the Saone and walk to old Lyon AND within feet of cheap public parking. Easy to reach from everywhere. Staff is exceptional and do care. Rest of the hotel is a Best Western Plus - all you can expect.
Stayed for the 5th consecutive time over 10 years at this hotel, this time for a total of 5 nights and at the occasion of the Dance Biennial of Lyon. Small but cozy and very well located hotel in the downtown heart of the city and from which one can easily travel to many key places and sites of Lyon. Breakfast is hot, very complete and a welcoming start for the day, excellent staff!
Small but nice hotel in a good location. In the first room I was given the window faced a narrow lightwell, so I asked to be moved to another room. This was done with no fuss and I was very happy with the second room. Whilst the 1st one may have been quieter, I prefer a window with natural light. The room & bathroom were compact but clean & adequate. Also had a safe & small TV. Breakfast was nice; a little bit of everything and frequently replaced. Would stay again.
Firstly I'll say the positives out weigh the negatives of this hotel. The staff are mostly very friendly and polite. The location is excellent as well. There are a few negatives though. I'll start by saying the room is ok, but with zero view. All we could see was a wall about 10ft away from the windows. It was basically looking out to a very small courtyard. Also if you're a night owl and fancy a drink in lyon, make sure you've got plenty of charge on your phone as you'll be required to phone the hotel to let you back in. The receptionist goes for a wander during the night, so if you don't have a phone then you're going to be banging on the door to be let back in. All in all I would probably stay here again, providing the price is right.
I was not staying at this hotel this time in Lyon but would on my next visit thanks to the helpful staff at reception. So very kind to an Aussie tourist trying to catch a cab. Thank you very much Patricia.
I only stayed one night and it was just standard. There was no one at the desk upon arriving and we had to wait a bit since I guess it was left unmanned while they were on break. Once they arrived, the staff was friendly but upon checking in we were a little surprised we were only able to access our room by going across the courtyard, through the (not included) breakfast salon and through to the dingy single elevator. The building seemed old and the rooms were small. It was clean but dated. Decent location within walking distance to the canal but a bit far from the busier areas.
It's an OK hotel but you can't beat the location. Have fun finding the place. It's on a side street that seems impossible to get to just of Place Jacobins. They offer no parking. There is one very near about half a block but it will cost you about $30 for the day. I would stay there again.
Stayed in this hotel for one night on business, would happily go back. Warm greeting at Reception, room was clean & comfortable - being extra picky I could say it was slightly on the small side but for an overnight business trip it was perfect. Main thing was the air conditioning was terrific! Breakfast the next morning was very tasty with plenty of options to satisfy everyone.
Booked online just two days prior to arriving, paid less than €100/night. For that we got: - a nice hotel on a quiet street; - a small-ish room with a comfortable bed on the 5th floor; - a modern, well-equipped bathroom; - helpful English-speaking staff; - a block from dozens of restaurants and bars; - a block from the Saone River and walking bridge over to the old town. As others have said, this is truly a fabulous location, with so much to see on foot. We did not take advantage of the €8 breakfast buffet, opting instead for coffee and croissant down the street for less than half. Because we were out all day the small-ish room wasn't an issue, but I did knock my head on the sloping ceiling twice before I learned to duck. If we go to Lyon again, the Saint Antoine will be our first choice.
Great budget hotel in central location, friendly staff. Comfortable and with good basic facilities. Would stay again. Great places to eat nearby. Many tourist facilities and Information Office nearby.
Centrally located for restaurants, old Lyon and Sightings. Public parking garage very near by which is a must in Lyon where traffic is tormented inevitably way thinkable. Hotel is in an old classic building and the most important renovation has been done, it‘s sound proofing which is sufficient. For the price there is no competition in that location. To find the hotel entrance look for the sign „Diplomatico“ on the promenade Quai Sr Antoine.
This city center hotel was extremely close to the pedestrian bridge that leads to the Old Town. It is literally surrounded by restaurants and bars, but tucked away enough to be considered a quiet location. Our room was perfect for us; compact, but good use of space. The linens were crisp, the bathroom was spotless, the shower had great water pressure. The staff was friendly and accommodating.
The location is ideal for a vacationer. Steps from the pedestrian bridge leading to the old town. A great variety of dining options just steps away; everything from fast food to fine dining. The hotel was exceptionally clean. The room was a decent size, well furnished and spotless. The front desk staff was very helpful and available 24 hrs a day. My room faced a light shaft, rather than overlooking a street, and this provided a very quiet night even with the windows wide open. A real good option in Lyon!
We were assigned to a room with a window that opened to the interior. We could not keep the window open due to an overwhelming stench of garbage, and the room had no air conditioning — we were somewhat deceptively informed that the hotel had turned off the AC because guest were complaining it was too cold. After 1 miserable night, we asked for a room facing exterior so at least we could open the window. Our request was granted and — guess what — the new room had an AC unit! The new/improved room made a world of a difference. The first room was barely habitable and yet we were also told we'd be on the hook for all 3 nights if we chose to depart early rather than suffer in that dungeon of a room unless they could find a new dupe to rent it. Good grief. So it all ended well, but beware of your room assignment.
Myself and my partner stayed at this hotel for 6 nights in total. When we first checked i we were allocated a room on the top floor which we both found to be too small and too dark for our liking. After discussing this with the lady at the front desk she changed our room for a slightly larger room with much more light and a much bigger window! She was more than happy to do this for us and we both immediately felt comfortable and happy with the hotel. In fact we found all of the staff were very friendly and more than happy to go out of their way to help you. If you are going to Lyon to make the most of the city the location of the hotel couldn't be better. Along the same street is an awesome little cafe, boulangerie (great for picking up lunch!), grocery store and many small unique shops. It is also just around the corner from a street packed with bars and restaurants, which if you are in Lyon to enjoy is perfect! On our first night walking back to the hotel we were slightly worried as the area was busy and loud, but there was no need to worry, as soon as we got into the hotel all of the noise was blocked out and in all of our 6 nights we did not have 1 night of disturbed sleep. The hotel was perfect for our stay in comfort and location and we would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to enjoy the vibrant and exciting city of Lyon during the day and night!
I found the BW St Antoine to be be extremely well situated to enjoy Lyon's lively restaurant and bar scene and the easy access to the foot bridge over the Saone River made it very convenient to visit the old town or take the funicular to see the cathedral at Fourvière or the Gallo-Roman ruins and museum. The hotel is very convenient to shopping and to Place Bellecour to join any tours.
I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights, travelling alone and I had the best experience in Lyon because of this comfy hotel. It is just walking distance to the old town and St. Pierre Cathedral, less than 5 minutes walk. You can take the funicular to Notre Dame and enjoy the scenic view from the top of the hill. The hotel is surrounded by shops and restaurants, just next door is a small grocery store. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, thank you for accommodating me on early check in after such a tiring trip. I would like to mention the night receptionist for helping me book and showed me the room on the night before I check in, I was so desperate to find a good place to stay and Best Western was indeed a heaven sent! The room I booked was small and nice- more than enough for one person. I tried the breakfast once and it was nice. Though I suggest they could maybe add 1 Asian dish like noodle or fried rice. Thank you! I will come back soon!
An honest hotel with a very accomodating and friendly staff. The room (405) given to us had a smell of cigarette, after informing the reception we were promptly changed to room 105. Although it did have a smell it wasn't as bad as the previous one. The room was on the small side but this is compensated by the location, close to all famous Lyon sites and great restaurants. For advice of where to eat well at a reasonable price the staff suggested Le Layon, we weren't disappointed. Recommended!!
This hotel is situated near old town (Vieux Lyon), restaurants, shops are waiting for you from front door. Local transportation is also close, meaning couple of buslines. Metro is not close, so from airport, which has transportation to Lyon Part-Dieu railway station, you need to take taxi to arrive to hotel unless it doesn't bather you do have some more time in metro.. It's 15 EUR, 2 persons with luggage by taxi to hotel. Everything else is in walking distance. Using metro, tram, bus is easy. River cruise, old town, shopping, restaurants very close.
We booked through a third party website which claimed there was parking on the premises. When we arrived and inquired about the parking, the woman at the front desk informed us that it was, in fact, just regular city parking. Room was small but clean. Lots of choices for breakfast.
We only stayed one night in Lyon, so I was happy to stay somewhere that was convenient for sightseeing. It's about a five to ten minute walk to Bellecour and Cordeliers metro stations. The lobby is very small, so it's a little chaotic when there's a large group of people checking in. It gets a little loud at night because it's close to a street with many bars. (It's perfect for those who want to spend a night out drinking as it's very quick to get back to the hotel.) Our room looked clean enough elsewhere, but then there were little hairs left on the bathroom counter.
This nice little hotel is placed just in the middle of the city center. The Saone riverbank is next door, the street with all the restaurants are just around the corner and the shopping streets also very close. I had a nice little room with a modern interior including coffee and tea facilities. Breakfast was simple but good. The only negative thing was some noise form the street Friday night, but it could have been much worse. The internet worked well.
This hotel was quite a distance from the city center and finding it was frustrating . The receptionist however was most accommodating and facilitated our check in and assisted in settling us for the night. Room was comfortable and bathroom clean. The parking in the back was a blessing since street parking is almost impossible. A good choice for a one night stop over.
Hotel with excellent location and with recently rebuild rooms and bathrooms. Some rooms are very small with a difficult circulation around the bed. Small bathrooms. In some cases with toilets space only for kids or small people. Friendly staff, very good breakfast and excellent location near most of the key touristic zones: Shopping, restaurants and old town (5 m walk across the river)
OK, so the room was big enough to sleep in, but that's it. I've had enough of these French chain hotels with their tiny rooms and wish I'd spent a little more to get something more comfortable. However, I would have rated this average (because I got what I payed for) if it wasn't for the fact that the en-suite bathroom stank of sewage and that's in February. Don't bother! Good location though.
We stayed here for three nights this October. Our room was on the fifth floor but the lift only goes to the fourth floor so we had to to go up a few steps to our room, which was not a problem. Our room (502) was a little on the small side but had everything we needed. We don't watch TV so I can't comment on how good it was but i did appreciate having a kettle and the opportunity to have a hot drink in the room. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was very modern and clean though there was scum round the base of the tap. (Sorry, but I am very picky about taps and overflows!) The towels were changed daily even when we hung them up. Free wi-fi was available and we had no problems with it. There is also a computer in the reception area. We had the buffet breakfast each morning and were more than satisfied with the choice of food offered and the way in which it was constantly refreshed. We found the hotel to be well-situated, meeting all our needs, and would not hesitate to recommend it or to stay there again.
This hotel is in an ideal location in the middle of the peninsula and close to everything to see in Lyon. It is in walking distance of Vieux Lyon and all of the major squares and shopping streets. My stay lasted 10 days. The accommodations were clean and comfortable; and the room and bathroom, though small, were adequate for one person. I loved the fact that the windows opened to the outside, but they were good insulators when closed. The hotel and the public areas were clean and inviting. The service was excellent and the manager, M. Collet, was very nice and very professional. He went out of his way to help me when I had a problem. The elevator stops in between floors so it is necessary to walk up or down a few stairs; this is not idea, but it was not a problem for me. It might be difficult for others. Of course, my luggage was taken up and down by hotel personnel.
This hotel is very central, in a street with only historical buildings. My room was no. 307. The historical experience started with getting to the room with a heavy suitcase. Because the building is old, there was only one, slow lift, also used by the staff, and which stopped only between floors. The room started with a long corridor (photo). The shower room was small but well designed (photo). It had no drying line. The luggage storage area unusually good, and the bed was comfortable (photos). There was a bedside clock. The air conditioning was easy to work, as long as you found the instructions in the Guest Directory. There was an adequate supply of electrical sockets. The TV was OK. The Wi-Fi was easy to access, but signal was weak, and service ended just after 23:00 on the night before my departure; there was no problem getting a new code, but the code print-outs were very faint. The view from the window was of an ochre shaft (photo), part of the charm of an older building, but it did mean the room was quiet. The Breakfast Room was very small, but the buffet was good – this was the first European hotel I have stayed in where the breakfast buffet included dried dates and a juicer with fresh oranges. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Stayed there for 2 nights during the Euro cup semi-final match. Lucky to got a room during that time in such a great location with all sorts of facilities within a walking distance. The city was vibrant with football fans... really enjoyed the hotel surroundings... people dancing, singing whole night. Definitely overpriced that time...but can't blame hotel authority for that. Bathroom is very small but okay. Lyon city boat, old bridge all are nearby. Lots of food zones but could not find a single English menu.
The hotel is in a very central location, close to pubs, restaurants and shops. And the staff was very helpful. But the rooms had a strange plan-a narrow long hall between the beds and the toilet-not to mention it was seperate than the bathroom. And note that elevator stops in the mid-floors so either way you climb up or down to your room's floor. It's not easy if your luggage is heavy.
Hotel is tucked away down a side street, but don't be put off, as sooooo close to the most amazing restaurants; possibly 40 down a street 20 metres away!! Add to that, an outstanding food market 60 metres away and you are in foodie heaven. We hired the apartment (5 men) and it was everything we needed - ignore the entrance hallway and lift (both from a 50's movie); the apartment is really pleasant (although might be chilly in Winter, as little heating)
The hotel is literally a 5 minute walk over the bridge to Old Lyon. It is centrally located and you can walk to most restaurants in under 10 minutes. The main walking streets and markets are within minutes of hotel. The Christmas market is either a 20 minute walk or a 6 minute taxi. The minimum taxi fare is 7 euros and that will get you to 90% of Lyon.
really really great! perfect location to walk around the center of the city and to vieux-lyon! all front desk staff was helpful and the internet was amazing! didn't have the breakfast but looked great as well. beds were beyond comfortable
Very nice staff, fluent in various languages and eager to help. Not a good breakfast buffet, bottle water upon request not available in the room. Location is great for going to historic area and restaurant for dinner. Would recommend for short stays, but take your breakfast at any other place and make sure to have drinking water before calling it a night.
Great hotel to enjoy the city of Lyon. Decor was clean but tired and the room was tiny, just a double bed with 3 foot of space around. Perfectly located near to restaurants, bars and attractions Good breakfast Good Service
Very centrally located and ideal for one night or two maximum ! The hotel is clean but decor is in need of an upgrading to reach today's standards , the room was acceptable but rather small and the bathrooms are uncomfortably minute . The service is excellent and personnel is helpful. Hotel is close to all amenities including a grocer and patisserie so we did not go for the breakfast offered . Public parking is two minutes walk away??
I thought I would get a room that looked like the first room pictured on Tripadvisor-- nice and tasteful. I booked this hotel thinking that all the rooms look this. However I got the Klee room with a red and orange colour scheme which was just not what I wanted at all. I also found the teal coloured toilet very weird and not at all pleasant. Room itself is quite okay but the colour scheme is just tacky and not what I was expecting and this really put me off to be honest. Wouldn't really stay at this hotel again given the chance. Staff were helpful and the location is great, but for next time I will look for a hotel with rooms a bit more tastefully done.
Great location, but the hotel is perhaps a little tired. Staff were excellent and very helpful. If you want to be in the heart of the old city and will be out and about all day, then this hotel is OK. The rooms are small as expected in this old part of town.
Good location easy to walk to restaurants, sights, expensive shops. Because of location the room a bit depressing, looked out onto narrow street with high buildings so permanently dark. The room's decor didn't help. Very new, modern bathroom but older visitors beware, the bath was a bit high to step into with no grab rails. The toilet was separate with no hand basin, so had to go into bathroom to wash hands, opening two doors!. Room had coffee/tea facilities, mini-bar, TV,phone, WiFi. Reception staff very, very helpful with good English and knowledge of the area. Good breakfast. Metro, excellent tourist office 10 minutes walk.
the hotel is excelently located, marvellous views of fourviere once you are in the street. Clean and with two excellent things: wifi connection and the bed. On the other hand being at this hotel was like playing tetris with yourself from the bed to the door to the shower and....i prefer not to speak about the toilet, you should be a really short guy to be comfortable at this place...
The position is absolutely good to visit the center: near to the river, it's easy to reach, a park (not for free) is available just few meters away and it's ok to start for a walking visit to the historic center or the shopping area. Inside the rooms are small (expecially the bathroom) but comfortable; the breakfast is ok.
Very nice hotel in the city centre. Easy to reach. Good position, it is very close to a few metro stations. Fantastic staff. They are all so kind and nice... A good hotel to stay at a very good price. Rooms are not so big, but very nice and clean. I like it.
