Although the building design and room decor was a little disappointing, being rather ‘cold' and utilitarian, the staff were all really helpful and willing to go out of their way to assist with anything. Also, wonderfully relaxing and enjoyable massage in the spa by Melissa! Those people, plus the hotel's own car parking, both underground and surface, both with 22kw EV chargers, and 10 minute walk from the old town centre, all serves to raise this rating.

"Good stay but noisy!"

Very pleasant reception and kind with wee gifts. Room was very clean and pleasant. Hotel is going through a refurb. It was very noisy at night ( second floor) as it faces the street. Boy racers and sirens. Sadly we slept badly. Parking underneath which was great.

We stayed for one night. We were on 5th floor overlooking the square. Room was quiet, cool and comfortable. We were happy to pay for parking. Loved the view and people watching after our dinner. Receptionist English was excellent. Breakfast was delicious too. 10 mins to the main square. We ate in a quiet side street L'Instantane, which we thoroughly enjoyed.

We had a lovely stay while exploring Claremont Ferrand and the Auvergne. Hotel is going through a transition of ownership, so going to have a spruce up. Spotlessly clean, Good location, wonderful attentive staff (especially Sam) and a wonderful breakfast with plenty of selection........what more could you want!?

"Poor hotel"

This is not a 4* hotel..... it's a basic hotel with average staff and average facilities.....It wasn't cheap and the room was small and lacking in facilities.....air-con wouldn't work, several times I contacted reception. I gave up when I knew I was being fobbed off about the fact I couldn't turn it on from the controls in my room and they had to engage it from reception.....it never worked. The only thing nice about this hotel is the view from my balcony..... and I don't pay to "sleep in a view".

"First stop on the drive back to Spain"

I hate AI but I used it to recommend where to stop on the drive back to Southern Spain and it suggested here for our first night. I'm a Best Western member so didn't need too much convincing and the reviews looked great. I was drawn to the superior room but couldn't work out if it had a bathtub like the comfort room as we fancied a soak after our first leg of driving. I emailed the hotel to ask but sadly got no response so I booked a comfort room with breakfast. We arrived at a sensible hour and headed straight for the underground parking. A tad on the expensive side but i wanted to make our journey straightforward and hunting for a space or car park, then lugging a case to the hotel wasn't part of my plan. We were welcomed at reception by a friendly chap, something I've found consistent at Best Western affiliated hotels, and we were soon checked in, freshened up and back in the bar sampling a glass of local red wine. I found the food option that appeared on a sheet in the room a little confusing as to whether it could be taken in the bar so in the end we didn't try it. The sweets in the room were a great touch and I ate them all before my wife got a look in. We had a rather superb night's sleep. The bed was supremely comfortable, noise from the road was minimal and the temperature was perfect for us. Breakfast was served on the upper floor. What a fantastic idea. It would have made an impressive restaurant location in the evening. The coffee was very good but the absolute star of the show was the large selection of local cheese proudly displayed with information attached. There are two things I always make a point of indulging in when passing through France; cheese and wine, and I found my happy place at the Hotel Litteraire. When a cheese is so gooey you need a spoon you know you are in heaven. It set us up for our full day of travel to Perpignan. Checkout was simple and a pleasant farewell. Any down side, I hear you ask. Nothing much. A bit of music in the bar wouldn't have gone amiss. It felt like the library it resembled. Oh, and a hair net on longer haired breakfast prep staff would have been appreciated.

Stayed with our dog. Warmly welcomed. Secure underground parking made unpacking the car in the rain easier. Clean and spacious room. Delightful breakfast buffet, local produce and ample choice. Very friendly and helpful staff.
