The hotel is located between the train station and the center of the city close to a square. If you do not have difficulty walking then it is fully possible to walk from the station but it is not very close. In the vicinity of the hotel there are restaurants, bars and a supermarket. We had a superior room on the fourth floor with a very nice view of the city and towards the Puy des Domes. It was a normal sized room in modern design with air conditioning which was somewhat noisy but worked well. There was a minibar, a nespresso machine, a kettle and a safety box in the room and the wifi was free. We appreciated that the hotel offered two bottles of water complimentary that were in the room. The television had French, Spanish, Italian, English and German channels. The bed was big and we had a good nights sleep. The room had a minimalistic balcony with entrance odd enough through a window. There were no chairs on the balcony. Bathroom and toilet were in separate rooms. The bathroom was clean and had a shower in a tub. The hotel has a nice top floor with a small terrace overlooking the city and towards the Puy des Domes. Breakfast is served here, which allows you to enjoy a beautiful view while eating. The breakfast was an unusually large and well-stocked buffet. As hot dishes there were scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon and pancakes. Bread, several different kinds of local cheeses, various marmalades and organic hazelnutcreme were available at the buffet. There was an orange press so you could make your own juice. Of course there were muesli and several different kinds of yogurt. The hotel has both a bar and a restaurant on the ground floor, but we did not try these. The reception staff were very nice and everywhere at the hotel we were met by smiling staff who greeted us. It felt like it was a good atmosphere among the staff. We thought the room was very good value for the money and the hotel was nice and very well functioning. Thus, it is a hotel we would highly recommend.
Looks quite forboding from outside, but a warm and charming reception awaits inside by efficient and professional staff. Lovely room , comfortable and quiet. and only 90 euro per night including Private secure car park. 15 minute steep uphill walk to town centre to the beautiful Notre Dame du Port cathedral. Breakfast room a bit of a 'Bun fight' so we didn't partake. Bought croissants and coffee from nearby café run by a charming Tunisian. All together an interesting stay in CF highlighted by a political rally with accompanying Riot police ! Well it was Bastille day !
Was visiting Clermont-Ferrand for work and was suggested to stay here. Upon arrival they were very helpful and spoke good english. I was worried because my French is non-existent. The room was great, it was facing the front of the building, when I opened my window I had a beautiful view of the park across the street. The breakfast is amazing! Not only is the food good, the view is gorgeous, The rooms had mini fridges that was convenient to keep water and snacks cold. Across from the hotel is a Carrefour (mini supermarket) you can purchase anything there. I had no problems with the hotel at all. The only thing that I would suggest improvement on was that the Nestle Cafe machine in the room was very dirty so I didn't use it. They were really helpful getting me a taxi at 3am for my departure to the airport. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would go back myself.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay over three nights. The hotel staff were courteous and welcoming. The breakfast was hearty and well worth the cost ; the staff in the restaurant were very attentive and could not do enough for us.
The very idea of having a hotel with the memories of a local writer is interesting and not easy to follow in all details. And yet it it is a success. Very agreeable rooms with a very nic coffee machine with capsules!! The breakfast on the sith floor with a beautiful viwe to the cathedral of clermont is among the best one can imagine. A special word for the hostesses at breakfast. Very helpful and tactful unusually so. I rturned to the hotel recently. the only problem was that although they had a problem with the electricity which forced to leave at 9 am they were unwilling to offer a substantial compensation.
I've stayed here maybe 5 times over the last year and it's a great establishment. The decor is different and to me, inviting. The rooms are simple but it makes for an easy stay if that makes sense. The room is outfit with a mini fridge, coat closet small couch and basic amenities. Keep in mind a few things: the HVAC is really controlled from the front desk, so if the room is too warm in the summer you have to chat with them. The breakfast is adequate and good for me, a variety of breads, meats and fruits. A few hot items and sweets as well. The view from the breakfast room is incredible as is the balcony. Around the hotel are many decent restaurants and a Carre Four which is a grocery. The tram line is about 1/2 block away. It's an easy walk to Jaude and many parks. I plan to stay here again. It's a great place!
The rooms are extremely basic and not functional. The air conditioner and wifi don't work. The staff don't seem to care. The wardrobe/closet in the room is covered by ugly curtains (no sliding doors). The parking is not included and must be paid separately but worse, once you're in you can't get out with a large sedan without damaging it because the access out of the -2 level is extremely tight. The breakfast price is abusive: 16€ for basic continental. Not American breakfast as advertised.
A fabulous bed, WAY more comfortable than the Hotel Fourviere in Lyon, with a duvet and pillows of a much higher quality! Add to that, the coffee capsules in the room were the same ones used at this luxury hotel in Lyon in their RESTAURANT!!!!! I would have preferred the air conditioning to go down to 16c but as it was raining, it was easy to open the window for a breath of fresh air and have quiet on the streets.
Stayed one night in double room w/ 2 kids. Very nice bedroom and bathroom. Hotel is at walking distance from downtown Clermont. The breakfast room at the top of the hotel offers great views of le Puy de Dome. Parking fee €14/day.
We used this hotel on our way to Spain to stop for the night. We had a family room for 4. The room was ok, though with beds for 4 obviously cramped. Staff is very friendly. The breakfast is on the Sixth floor with a nice view over town. Recommended!
Overnight stay in this modern centrally located hotel. Nice rooms with a Nespresso machine, great eating areas with a good breakfast. Nice open air balcony with views over the city, what's not to like!
The hotel has a new management under best western and the rooms and the lobby have been upgraded. It now has a small bar and a restaurant. But that's pretty much it. Service levels remain basic and in fact non existent. The best thing about the hotel is the view from the rooftop where breakfast is served. Unfortunately my room was at the same level and I woke up every day with the noise and the smell from the breakfast area!!
Third stay in Clermont at this hotel. Travelling by rail it makes a good stopping off point. Rooms and public areas have been smartened up since last visit.Worth the extra for a room with a view of cathedral and Puy de Dome. Restaurant in hotel is dependable which is good if arriving tired. Breakfast on 6th is well worth the money: excellent
A really nice hotel with great, friendly attentive staff. Very comfy bed with lots of pillows and rally nicely appointed room. From check in to check out this was just a very pleasant experience which is rare these days. Compliments to the staff at this "little gem"!
We have stayed here before whilst enroute through Spain although this time the receptionist was far less helpful than the one previously. Generally not a great area. I was not happy to let my teenagers venture out without me. Clean, modern, evening meal was ok but breakfast was very limited. Ok for a pit stop.
I convinced my wife and kids that the Puy De Dome was worth a visit. I was thinking of breaking up our holiday with a couple of nice short stays before we drove to our gite on the Lot/Dordoygne border. So booked 2 nights at this hotel which had ok reviews. Unfortunately the following morning we wanted to go and take the train up to the Dome it was really cloudy and grey and it didn't look like clearing up. So we decided to take a leisurely look around the town (we were going to do that late afternoon). We saw the cathedral and the abbey and the other sites. The hotel is quite central and all the site are easily reached on foot. We did see pretty much most of the sites and took some nice pictures. There are shops and cafes nearby so it is a convenient location. I just felt that this town lacked abit of soul and atmosphere. Maybe that is just me and my past experiences of other places. We had visited Dijon a few days prior and really liked that town. Can imagine staying there longer to visit some of the vineyards. We left disappointed with the all round experience. The price of the 2 night stay I thought was around £40-50 too much, that would have dampened the disappointment somewhat. The rooms were ok, decent size, shower was good with plenty of hot water. Wifi connection was slow. One thing to note is that the underground car park for the hotel is quite tight, especially if you have a 4x4 or a bigger car. The receptionist looked like he had done some long shifts and did the weekend shift as well - bless him. Overall, I think it was a missable trip, but I think it's always worth doing it for the visit to the dome. We may go there again to visit the dome but not to stay overnight.
We stayed overnight on a drive from Girona, Spain, to Paris. We enjoyed our stay. The hotel was clean and modern. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. We booked an executive room which came with tea/coffee facilities and a mini bar. My only problem with the room was that there were no dressing gowns or slippers for us to use. The buffet breakfast was basic ... A small selection for Continental or some items from a cooked breakfast. Not a huge choice but something for everyone. As I have already said the staff were really helpful. My husband needed to print, sign , copy and scan some items and they really went out of their way to help him which was really appreciated. There is nothing much to do in Clermont but the hotel makes for a comfortable stopover spot. We would definitely stay here again.
Stopped over night on our way to the south of france. 10 hours driving and arrive at the hotel. Checked in and told there is no parking and given a map of Clermont Ferrand for alternative car parks. Just what you need after a 10 hour drive. The lady on reception told us breakfast was on the 6th floor. From this i took that the breakfast was included? Oh no. Booked through booking.com. 2 rooms. 198 euros for both. Checked out following morning. Was asked to pay.... no problem. Only to be called half way to the south of france by the hotel, to be told we only paid for 1 room. What sort of shambles is this hotel? We booked 2 rooms. Assumed i paid gor both rooms as the price was almst 198 euros. What they didnt tell me was that there was a tax to pay for both. That breakfast was chargeable and that i owed another 148 euros. Absolutely farce. Couldnt check because of driving and no internt access and then explained i would check when i get home. Only to get an email 2 days later to say they had charged my card for the 2nd room without my permission Wouldnt recomend this hotel to anyone.
Hotel Des Puys is well located on a square just outside the city centre. The reception area looks like a car rental office and the hotel itself definitely is more business than leisure oriented, but service is adequate and friendly and the staff even manages to speak English, which is always a bonus in France. We had a room on the first floor with a rather interesting semi-open floorplan. Space is adequate, the bed is comfortable and we had no issues whatsoever with noise outside. The breakfast is fine and the area on the topfloor really has fantastic views with the friendly staff only enhancing the experience. The hotel has its own underground parking garage although garage is a sophisticated word for a dark grotto much more suitable for small french cars than for somewhat larger german limousines, especially when the very small entrance to the deepest floor has to be navigated. But Clermont-Ferrand is a nice and lively place, easily explored by foot from the hotel and we would certainly not hesitate to recommend this hotel for a one or two night stay.
The hotel was undergoing restoration whilst we were there and the reception was in a temporary area. This did not unduly bother us, but there seemed to be problems with the electrics from time to time and there was no bar. The hotel is located on the edge of the historic district, about ten minutes walk from the cathedral. Our room on the fifth floor had a balcony and a pleasant view over the town towards the distant hills. The room was on the small size but is about what you expect for a European city centre hotel. There were no problems with noise, either internally or externally. Staff were pleasant and courteous and the breakfast buffet well stocked. If ever in the city again, I would be happy to stay here.
Good room, nothing special but nothing to complain about; I was on the 4th floor facing Place Delille with a nice view over the town. Hotel services are ok and the hotel appeared well maintained and cleaned. The breakfast room in on the top floor with a nice view over the town and the surrounding hills. The breakfast choice was ok (but not exceeding the meam expectations, even if the lady part of the hotel staff in the breakfast room was very helpful and welcoming). Should I ever be back to Clermont-Ferrand, this hotel would be my first choice again.
We left quite happy with the one night experience. It would be nice to have English speakers on each shift and in the restaurant. We asked the restaurant staff to call an employee from the reception area to explain the menu lists.
Typical European Room, Nice bathroom. We had a small deck which overlooked the square which was nice. The A/C did not work, but it was cool enough with the window open. The restaurant in the hotel is fairly decent. Staff is very friendly and accomodating. The hotel is walking distance (or short tram ride) to the place de Jaude, Train Station, and Cathedral.
We arrived following a long day's driving and received a warm welcome. The lobby was bustling and the staff were very friendly. We had booked 2 rooms, both were very similar, no complaints. Lovely bathroom and in-room facilities. As stated by previous reviewers, the breakfast is simply fantastic. The view from the breakfast room was fabulous, you got a real taste of Clermont-Ferrand, and the range of food was absolutely excellent. Everything you could ask for. The lady who attended us was very chatty too. I had thought the hotel was a little pricey, until I saw the breakfast!! Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel.
Very nice hotel. The breakfast was wonderful and had gorgeous views of the city while you eat. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The beds were very cozy with nice linens. I enjoyed the ability to open the windows for fresh air. The Internet was unreliable in the evenings. The park across the street was noisy and seemed to be a hang out for local teens/young adults. Near a grocery store but not many restaurants to choose from. The bus line is directly in front of the hotel.
When I arrived three young men with a ghetto-blaster were shattering the peace of the square outside - and of everyone else within several hundred metres. I found that my room overlooked the square and asked for one at the back instead. The receptionist gave a Gallic shrug - and said that he would call the police if they didn't stop by 10.30. Fortunately they did stop well before that, but when I ventured into the square later i found it to be the haunt of several unsavoury characters with vicious-looking dogs. This is a shame, since the hotel itself is quite nice, with great views from the top-floor breakfast room - and a pretty good breakfast too.
We stayed here for one night on our way South. It was lovely to have a balcony (small) just to be able to have some fresh air and enjoy the sun. The view was nice - we were able to see the mountains. It is handy for the shops, cathedral and restaurants. Very clean but the Wi-Fi was slow and non existent at times. Underground parking is provided, which we thought was slightly expensive but as we travelled onward we discovered most of the hotels charge in and around the same price. Didn't eat in the restaurant as there was a limited dinner menu choice. Reception staff could have been friendlier and there was only 1 person on each time I had cause to visit the desk so I had quite lengthy wait to be attended to, but all in all I would stay here again as the location is good, it is clean and well kept.
After being absorbed into the Best Western chain the hotel has undergone some more renovation. The same traffic noise and drunks with their dogs battling it out until late in the square below still persist. I know that's not the hotel's fault but it does detract from the experience. On my second evening I returned to my room to find an A4 note stuck to the balcony window on the inside saying 'Wet Paint'. In other words workmen had come into my room without my permission or knowledge to do work commissioned by the hotel. I was more annoyed that the hotel management refused to accept that I had a legitimate complaint - these guys could have gone through my stuff, used my toilet, helped themselves to my passport or cash, or just done something out of badness - and a cursory offer of compensatoon soon dis appeared when I came to pay the bill. Sorry Hotel des Puys, that's my last visit of maybe 25 previous. Oh, and the wifi is still rubbish.
Hotel was clean, rooms were comfortable and the breakfast was good (Served on the top floor with a good view!) Staff were very friendly and spoke English. On site car park which was overpriced but very convenient. Would definitely stay again if passing through.
We wanted a cheap stay for the night on our way to the south, and got pretty surprised by the quality of the Hotel. The external aspect of the hotel is so-so (it looks like a regular building from the 90's), but the interior is much better than it looks: * Rooms were very comfy, practical and well decorated * very very nice view from the restaurant at the top of the building * close (walking distance) to the center and the cathedral * exquisite family breakfast * friendly staff The parking is a little bit tight for large car, but the staff proposed to move his car so we could put ours instead. Overall, very pleasant surprise!
Stayed one night here in July. Very friendly staff and nice location to the old city. We stayed in a Junior suite on the sixth floor right next to the breakfast room. Very nice room with an excellent bed. The room was spanky clean, and it almost seemed they just had painted the room for us. Did use the parking garage which was simple to access. Got some beers and went to the look out spot on the sixth floor after dinner. Very romantic. In my opinion the only downfall was the breakfast buffet, nothing special about that one, but the hotel is definitely worth a visit.
We spent one night at this hotel. It is at 10 min walking distance from the old city and cathedral, add 5 min and you are at "la place Jaude" with plenty of restaurants in nearby small charming streets. We had a family room which is actually 2 bed rooms one with 2 beds for kids and the other with 1 twin for adults with large bathroom and toilets. Each room has a tv, AC works very well (reached 40C outside when we were there).
pros : hotel is clean, close to downtown, rooms have been renovated, the terrace is great for breakfasts with a view on the cathedral, wifi works, housekeeping is fine. cons : the staff at the lobby is not very helpful, the carpark is very narrow and expensive, the restaurant was closed without any previous notice, one lift was out of order.
