"Real charming hotel with super-b customer service!"

5
branosf, New York City, New York 08/01/2023

Amazing property in must-stay Montmartre. What really stands out here is the customer service - absolutely super b. An (I hope I am spelling it correctly) was helping us with whatever we needed, from any random requests, to restaurant reservation and suggestions, thru booking taxi for us (uber and bolt are pretty bad in Paris, so check with frontdesk on your way back to airport especially) As everywhere in Paris, obviously rooms are a bit smaller , so spend few bucks on the bigger room. They are super charming , same as entire hotel (and neighborhood). If available, try to get room on the 5th floor, you might get an Eiffel Tower view.

"Memorable stay in Paris - thanks to this place!"

5
mmajecki, Gliwice, Poland 19/11/2022

The stay in this hotel was an excellent choice! Everything was perfect - the location, the view at Eiffel Tower from the terrace, the cleanliness of the room, the comfort of our stay and many more! Special thanks, though, have to be directed towards the whole front desk team, who made sure to make it a truly memorable experience. Their effort, help, discretion and support in setting up a scenery for a proposal on the terrace was simply invaluable! Roses, champagne, candles, macarons - all prepared with a great care and attention to detail! Thank you all for a great experience and even better memories, hope to get there back in the future!:)

"Great place, great location"

"Great Hotel in Montmartre"

5
KT3448, Miami, Florida 08/08/2022

The hotel is really lovely and has a great location. The upcharge for a room with a view was worth it. I had a balcony with a table and a view of the top of Sacre Coeur. I loved sitting there. At check-in, I received a delicious pastry that made me feel very welcome. Also, I was there in July and the ac worked great.

"C'est fantastique!"

User 07/08/2022

Fantastic location, absolutely spotlessly clean and very helpful staff (who looked after me whilst I was sick one afternoon too!) The mattresses were soft and the (short) walk from Blanche station is uphill but worth it! I would not hesitate to stay here again. So many options for food and drink right on the doorstep.

Pierre-François Duhamel, Directeur général at Best Western Plus Hotel Litteraire Marcel Ayme, responded to this review
Dear Sir, I am particularly touched by this testimonial which pays tribute to the dedication of the team of our establishment. Beautiful room on the top of the hotel (53 room) with terrace with view on Eiffel. No fridge in room. But thee is kettle and coffee machine. Bed is too soft for our taste. Everything was clean. Staff was great! Breakfast big choose and delicious.

"Just what we wanted"

JN65, Liverpool, United Kingdom 31/05/2022

Great location in the heart of Montmartre, totally safe and convenient for everything. Abbess metro nearby. We had a superior room which was compact but also very cleverly designed to provide every comfort. Comfy bed. Good sound proofing. Aircon worked and windows opened, so your choice. Good wifi. We didn't have the breakfast so can't comment on that. Staff were helpful, always around 24/7 and spoke good English. We only had one minor issue (with the tv) during our stay which staff helped to quickly resolve. We booked a taxi through the hotel to the airport and that worked well too. No complaints at all. Liked the hotel and would happily go there again.

I didn't get what I paid for. I paid for a Superior King Room, which was the 2nd most expensive rate, this was for a weekend treat for my daughters birthday. Upon arrival I was informed the room was cancelled and they couldn't find my booking, even though I had confirmation of the booking and had received 2 emails about my upcoming stay. I queried the room and was told that is what I paid for, which was on the 2nd floor and opposite the stairs! Not happy at all, as I requested a balcony too. There were no toiletries in the room and again when I asked for these I was accused of leaving the "Do not disturb" sign out, even though we only checked in that day. The shower head didn't work properly either and there was a lot of noise from above and to the sides of the room. I truly believe that they cancelled my room and then put me in what was only available without an apology or explanation, hence the room and lack of hospitalitity. Best thing about the hotel was the comfy bed and location.

Margot Kielt, Directeur général at Best Western Plus Hotel Litteraire Marcel Ayme, responded to this review
Dear Madam, I would like to assure you that we have taken into account your feelings, which you have shared twice on the internet. I took the time to investigate with my teams as I was so surprised by what you mentioned, it is very rare that we receive this type of comment. When you arrived, we did indeed have difficulty in finding your reservation. Unfortunately, this inconvenience caused you to have negative feelings, which we understand given your expectations for this special occasion. However, the room you had was the one you had booked in terms of category, it is one of the most spacious in the hotel with two windows. The guests in general are very satisfied with it, we never have any remark about the noise. For your information, the option of a room with a balcony is extra and depends on our availability, as indicated in your pre-booking, we cannot guarantee it 100%. I am sincerely sorry for these misunderstandings, I hope you will give us the opportunity to make up for them. As an exception, given the situation, I would like to offer you a free upgrade for a future stay. You can contact us now by e-mail (contact@hotel-litteraire-marcel-ayme.com) to arrange your visit. "Loved it!! Fantastic Boutique Hotel in the heart of Montmartre. "

phineas-whatudoing, wigan 10/05/2022

Absolutely loved this quirky boutique hotel, stayed 4 nights with my sister. We were lucky to get a room with a balcony, being on the corner we had views of the Eiffel Tower to the left, treated every night after dark to the Tower sparkling, to the right we could see one of the remaining windmills of Montmartre and we could see the top of the Sacre Coeur peeking over the rooftops. The ròom was spotlessly clean with a coffee machine and safe. Breakfast was buffet style served between 7 to 10.30am, great selection in a lovely breakfast room. All the front staff we encountered were welcoming and really helpful. The hotel is in a perfect area with plenty of good restaurants, shops and bars. A short walk down the hill takes you to the Moulin Rouge area and a walk up the hill you brings you to the Sacre Coeur area, lots of bars, shops, artist square, loads of quaint streets to explore and of course the Sacre Coeur lovely seeing it lit up at night. Would definitely recommend the hotel and really can't wait to go back there. Had the most amazing time - loved it!!!

Pros: - Neat, clean and well decorated hotel - Good location in Montmartre, close to public transport and restaurants - Welcoming and friendly staff speaking English well / easy to communicate with - Charming and light room. Quite big for Parisian standards - Very tasty breakfast in small and quiet space on the basement floor. 7-8 am we had it to ourselves Cons: - Could hear a lot from our upstairs neighbors - Bathroom a bit cold but ok (don't know how they heat it during winter though)

"The most welcoming staff and the most perfect location"

5
LucisInFundus, Seattle, Washington 27/01/2022

Absolutely the best front staff we have ever encountered at any hotel. Everyone was extremely amicable and helpful. The location is just perfect to visit Montmartre because it is close to literally everything but tucked in on the upper side of the street to make your rest really peaceful. The staff were helpful and very friendly. We'll likely book this hotel again when we'll go back to Paris.

The hotel is located on the Montmartre hill, close to many cafes and restaurants, but in a rather quiet street. The surrounding area is very nice and romantic and the connection to the main sights via bus and metro is good. The rooms are small but clean and nicely decorated and the staff is very friendly

Dear Madam, dear Sir, The whole team is very pleased that your romantic trip went well. Thank you for sharing your satisfaction with us through this wonderful review and all these positive mentions. We are indeed located in the heart of Montmartre, near many cafes and restaurants. We are fortunate to benefit from a quiet setting where you can relax and have some rest, without forgetting the romantic atmosphere that is always present in a neighborhood with typical Parisian charm. We are glad that you appreciated the decoration of the rooms according to Marcel Aymé and the friendliness of the staff. wonderful hotel right in the heart of Montmartre. easy walk up the hill to Sacré-Coeur,the artist markets and restaurants. Plenty of really good bistros and bars with outside sitting within easy walking distance of the hotel. with the windows shut room is very quiet. Easy walk down the hill and you are in the Moulin rouge area. I stayed in a twin room with my sister and it was very very comfortable. beds very nice slept very well. . decorated so cute and decent size shower. the toilet was in a separate area than the shower which is nice if you have someone in the shower and you need the toilet area. the front desk staff are amazing and go the extra mile in helping out the guests. Huge Shoutout to Hanafi and Julie. They made my stay better than I could have ever thought. In the afternoons they have flavored water and little cakes for the guest for a nice afternoon snack. . Great location, amazing wonderful front desk staff. Only negative would be the wifi is a bit slow. Everything is gets a 10 in my book

"Excellent location and value for Boutique hotel"

5
Traveler8008, Los Angeles, California 03/10/2021

We were given the best room #53, which is super spacious for Paris hotels. The bed was big and comfortable. There are plenty of pillows and thick towels. They have a shampoo/soap combo in the shower, so you'll need to bring your own conditioner if you need it. The shower pressure is great and temperature consistent. The only drawback is the the shower head is too far back and doesn't angle, so you need to be very close to the dials or use it as a wand. Big shout out to Hanafi who checked us in. He was warm, friendly, and had great recommendations. He gave us these delicious puff pastries when we checked in. The hotel offers complimentary French sweets in their lobby. They are so good and disappear quickly. The location is a five min walk from a Metro stop. It's another 7 min walk to Montmartre. There are cafes, boulangeries, restaurants (very good ones), supermarkets, wine shops, and more. The location is lively through the day and night. I would stay in this area again in a heartbeat.

"Long weekend "

Melukeo, York, United Kingdom 16/03/2020

What a great hotel. I was treated to a 3 night stay by my wife. She upgraded us to room 53 on the fifth floor. Not only was it a cozy (good size) room it also had a balcony where you could see right across Paris to the Eiffel Tower. An amazing view in both day and night. The room itself was a good size. King size bed. Good shower with hotel supplied shower gels and shampoos, and a large tv. Soundproofing was superb and it never got too hot or cold at night. USB sockets and a little safe are always a welcome addition to any room I stay in. The hotel itself is located by some great restaurants and bars. A little shop is located just a few doors down for any essentials or snacks you may want. I'd 100% stay here again. All the staff we spoke to were really friendly and helpful.

Three night stay in one of their superior rooms.Compact but well thought out storage with tea and coffee making facilities, very clean and a comfortable kingsize bed. Reception staff are polite and very helpful.Good location for the pleasant cafe bars in the area. Short walk to the Metro so quickly into central Paris.

"Boutique Hotel"

philipb963, Paris, France 03/02/2020

Great location, friendly enough staff and well decorated and very clean. Lots of nice bars and restaurants nearby. Comfy bed and up a side street so not a lot of road noise. Only things that let it down was the toilet was a little snug and the water pressure for the shower was hit and miss. Coffee machine in the room was great for 1st thing. Would go back if the water pressure was better.

directionMarcelAyme, Directeur général at Best Western Plus Hotel Litteraire Marcel Ayme, responded to this review
Dear Sir, Thank you for pointing out all these positive points, I am delighted that you appreciated our location and the comfort of your room. The bedding has been carefully selected and the soundproofing reinforced to ensure you a quality sleep. Everything has been thought of to make you feel at home, we have equipped the rooms with Nespresso coffee machines and Marshall docking stations to allow you to enjoy relaxing moments throughout the day. A wine by the glass service is also available at the reception to enhance your evenings. I regret to discover your remark about the water pressure after your stay, when I can no longer intervene. On a simple remark, we would have offered you another room so that a technician could correct this malfunction. I hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you again in our Hôtel Littéraire, a true tribute to the work and life of the French writer Marcel Aymé who lived for many years in Montmartre. "Tiny rooms with limited facilities..Good Location"

3
vinaybasutkar, Bengaluru, India 05/01/2020

This place is small and comparable to the tiny rooms in Hong Kong. The rooms starts and ends after you see a double bed. The restrooms are quite a shocker with space for a WC being the total area for a toilet. We had 3 rooms and all were really small. The basic facilities such as glasses and forks etc weren't available since the guy at the reception didn't know where the 'Breakfast Lady' keeps it. So if you take a dine out, prepare to eat with your hands and use the plastic cups kept the bathroom for drinking wine if any. The breakfast is chargeable at 18+ Euros/per person and is repetitive. We didn't eat after the 2nd morning. On hindsight, I would given this place a miss and looked at a better hotel... Tastefully done place though....That and a decent location were the only saving grace.

directionMarcelAyme, Directeur général at Best Western Plus Hotel Litteraire Marcel Ayme, responded to this review
Madam, sir, I sincerely regret to read your disappointment, however your testimony surprises me greatly, as it does not correspond to the experience usually lived by our guests. Our rooms are certainly small, but they correspond to Parisian standards and are equipped for your comfort. We are totally transparent about their size and the facilities provided. How unfortunate to have drunk your wine in plastic glasses! We have a wine by the glass service at the reception desk, and we would have been delighted to offer it to you. We also provide cutlery on request. The breakfast buffet does not change daily, however the variety of products served makes it possible to vary the pleasures each morning. Its price is 16€, not 18€. It is justified by the quality of the products and the choice on offer: the local pastries, homemade cakes, cheese and cold cuts... The list is very long and our guests generally find what they are looking for. I hope that our excellent location has allowed you to take full advantage of the capital for the festive season. "Best Western Plus is a Plus "

GLVB, Racine, Wisconsin 26/12/2019

The hotel is clean, quaint and has generally solid amenities. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They speak English and others. We purchased a room rate that included breakfast; I recommend this. It is a nice spread of meats, cheeses, breads, sweets and hot dishes. Fresh fruit juices etc., are also included. The location is really a plus...within a 5-15 minute walk are bars, restaurants, Moulin Rouge, transportation stations shopping and tourist sites. It is up on a hill so that should be considered. We loved it. It reasonably priced. Thank you to all of the staff that were so gracious to us during our visit, especially in navigating our ground transport during the strike!

"Perfect!"

User 12/11/2019

I could not have been more pleased staying at this perfect little hotel in the most perfect location in Paris. We arrived early morning from the US on a red eye flight and I was initially concerned about the regular check-in time with our 2 huge luggages and maximizing our time in Paris. We were only visiting for 2.5 days/3 nights and my main focus is to see all the sights on my list within that short time frame. I emailed the property ahead of time to ask if I could store the luggages so we could start our sightseeing early as soon as we arrived at the hotel (check-in time is normally at 3 pm?) and they responded yes. As soon as we arrived at the property, I instantly fell in love with the location (Montmartre), the lobby and the front desk agent (Hanafi?). He was very helpful and understanding of our desire to freshen up from the long flight and wanting to explore as soon as possible that he did not hesitate to search for available rooms and at the same time, accommodating my initial request of having them on the same floor, right next to each other. Though the rooms are on the smaller side, they were perfect for my family's needs. The rooms have everything we needed: clean soft towels, a safe, a wardrobe big enough to hang our clothes in, and clean bathrooms and showers with a strong water pressure (a plus for my husband). And what can I say about the location...I particularly loved the quaint streets filled with locals who went about their day to day business. There were some tourists walking the streets but they did not outnumber the locals. Restaurants, boulangeries, cafes, fresh seafood stands, flowershops and little stores abound the neighborhood. We even caught one restaurant chef shopping for ingredients from the local seafood stand and closely inspecting a fish for its freshness. We waited in line along with the locals to buy our daily breakfast pastries at Boulangerie Alexine's for our breakfast on the go. In addition, Sacre Coeur was about minutes walk from the hotel and the Metro. Our short Paris trip was perfect and the hotel and its location was a big part of it. Thank you for a wonderful experience, Best Western Plus Litteraire Marcel Ayme!

Dear Madam, A big thank you to you and your family for this testimony which pays tribute to this typical district of Montmartre that we love so much, a setting for a daily life bathed in history and a rich heritage. Hanafi is delighted to read that you appriciated the rooms. His experience, professionalism and kindness are qualities that are unanimously recognized. He has done everything necessary to ensure that you enjoy every moment while benefiting as soon as possible from the cosy comfort of our family rooms and their quality equipment. You have not missed the traces left by our favorite writer Marcel Aymé. The tribute paid to him by our Hôtel Littéraire through works of art and its decoration is an echo of the life he led here in Montmartre. His house, located a stone's throw from the hotel, faces the sculpture of the Passe-Muraille that gave its name to one of his short stories. From the Lapin Agile to the cafés on Place du Tertre, from the vineyards of the Butte to the Moulin Rouge, from the Moulin de la Galette to the Sacré-Coeur, you are in the heart of Marcel Aymé's Montmartre. We are happy to have shared it with you and that you have the best memories. Frédérique HANSSENS,General Manager, Hôtel Littéraire Marcel Aymé 4* +33 (0)1 42 55 05 06

This is a lovely little hotel in Montmartre. The staff are friendly, the rooms are very well decorated and the beds are super comfortable. Had a two night stay here. Stayed at the top floor and could just see the Eiffel Tower (just) which was a pleasant surprise. The hotel is so close to the Moulin Rouge and the metro. The rooms are ‘compact et bijou' but clean and equipped as per described on their website. Staff were polite and helpful and the breakfast was adequate and very continental (don't expect a full English). I'd definitely stay again!!

The most perfect location in Paris' most perfect little neighborhood. First, this neighborhood should be your starting point for all of paris. A gorgeous little artist enclave. Narrow quaint streets with sketch artists wandering and the greatest street food. We arrived early and the front desk man couldn't have been more accommodating. He got us in and made us all so welcome. Nice little baked goods to welcome and treats on display are a nice touch! Clean and all new everywhere. Small...but exactly what you need. Dont let the big company branding set you off....this is a cute little boutique hotel!

Dear guest, This is an enthusiastic comment that I enjoy to read ! You have perfectly grasped the spirit that reigns in our establishment, whose warm welcome and original decoration are the key to its special identity. Our Hôtel Littéraire is an ode to Marcel Aymé, an emblematic novelist from La Butte. Like you, he loved to walk around Montmartre daily, meeting his friends in cafés or in their painters' studios. The Paris of artists is expressed in our hotel through works of art, books and decoration that pay tribute to our favourite author. We are pleased to have provided you with a place to rest comfortably when you come back from your explorations of our beautiful capital. Hotel was recently renovated and there is some thought behind every detail of interior design . It's not a big hotel for mass tourism but rather 'family' atmosphere. I frequently stay there for businss trips. Breakfast buffet is just great.

My wife and I were there for 3 nights and found that the hotel met all our expectations. It is perfectly located in the heart of bustling Montmartre and surrounded by excellent restaurants. It is very close to the metro. All the reception staff were helpful but we must give a particular mention to Ragna who was extremely helpful and ensured that we enjoyed our stay.

Location is ideal in the centre of Montmartre: pletora of cafes and restaurants to enjoy any meal. Staff is welcoming and polite. Rooms r quite tight ( pretty normal for Paris ) but very clean and cozy. Bathroom is en suite ( but note that privacy is 0 as it is literally 40 cm from the bed ) Nice breakfast. Poor WiFi. All in all if u want to experience Montmartre and look for a quality place with some charme and character I think this is a perfect place. It would be my first choice for Paris ( as I like the area ).

I really can't say enough good things about this hotel. I booked it on Expedia and even verbally confirmed with Expedia that the reservation was made; however, when we arrived, the hotel did not have our reservation much to my dismay. This could have been disastrous since the hotel did not have any of the apartment-size rooms available that I had booked. Instead, the incredible staff took care of us and came up with the perfect solution. They honored the Expedia rate I booked and were so apologetic (even though it was an Expedia issue and not an issue with their hotel). Additionally, the hotel is so charming! The décor was fun and our rooms were spotless. Breakfast was delicious and the cream puffs we were given at check-in were the best!! Lastly, the location is ideal and we enjoyed strolling around Montmarte. We look forward to returning!!

Dear Madam, We remember you and your stay perfectly. Once again, what a pity for this misunderstanding about your reservation and of course, we were more than happy to find the right solution. Thank you for complimenting our team and the decor of our Literary Hotel. The writer Marcel Aymé loved his district of Montmartre and enjoyed taking inspiration from it for his works. From now on, you know where your Parisian address is and don't hesitate to call us to personalize your next visit. Mathieu PREVOT General Manager Hôtel Littéraire Marcel Aymé 4* 01 42 55 05 06

My husband and I had a great stay at this hotel in Montmarte. The best part is the location. The neighborhood is wonderful — it's walking distance to the Sacre Couer, Dali Museum, Moulin Rouge, lots of cute cafes and bars, and importantly, close to subways to get you to the other main tourist sites. We loved all the cute little design details throughout the hotel. Our room was clean and we really appreciated the air conditioning (we were in Paris during a record heat wave). The bath was AMAZING, it was so nice to come home to a great shower, towels, and nice smelling lotions and soaps. We loved the breakfast downstairs, which we had to purchase separately — for vegetarians, there were baked beans, pastries, jams, yogurt, fruits. One con was that our room was TINY. We totally understand small city living spaces (we are New Yorkers so we're used to it!) This was a little odd though — one of the walls jutted into the room, taking away a good chunk of the living space. (Imagine a pizza with the top right quarter missing). It did make it a little tough for two people to maneuver around / deal with luggage. I have a feeling that the other double rooms don't have this layout, though. (We has room 40). We also had an issue with the sink clogging up, but the reception desk was so nice about it when we told them at checkout and deducted one day's breakfast charge. The customer service was top notch throughout our stay. Overall, we would definitely recommend this hotel as a base for exploring Paris!

I had a wonderful stay at Best Western Plus Marcel Ayme. Everyone was lovely, the room was clean and it was wonderful to see the street from my window. It was excellent to have a coffee machine in the room. The area is great, tube station Blanche just a few minutes away. Lots of restaurants, very atmospheric. I loved it and hope to be back soon. Thank you

We loved our spacious, modern room in Paris. The room had a separate sitting area with microwave and a convertible sofa which was perfect for our family of four. It is located in a nice part of town. There is easy access to the center of Paris as well as to other very nice neighborhoods including Mont Martre. It was reasonably priced for Paris. I was unable to find any other room of similar size for a lower rate; all were much more expensive.

I'm staying quite often in Paris for business reasons and for the time being the Best Western Plus Hôtel Littéraire Marcel Aymé is one of my preferred places to stay. Not too expensive for the value provided and no tourist masses walking around. Excellent breakfast, recently renovated in a nice style...

This was my first trip to Paris and this hotel was a great part of the experience. Front desk always had a very friendly rep working. I'm picky about beds/linens and was so happy to crawl into this comfy bed with nice linens and six good pillows. The room was spotless. Hot shower with thick towels. AC cooled the room in mere minutes. Hotel is a block from a street filled with great restaurants and shops and there is a laundromat the next block over. Three blocks from metro station. My only complaint is that I would have loved a little refridgerator for soda/water but that's it. I would recommend this hotel to anyone! Loved it!

This hotel is the place to be if you truly want to experience Paris if your young or old. I highly recommend it. They made it convenient for me to stay and having a handicap excess was perfect. They always continue to asked and care about how we were doing. We stayed 12 days and I will be returning to this hotel like it's my home. The bar across the road was as fun as Paris A truly must do and stay at this hotel. Nice room, tiny closet size bathroom. Comfortable bed. Staff was pleasant. Hotel was quiet. In a good location for walking around the Montmartre section of Paris. The lobby of the hotel is comfortable and full of memorabilia about author Marcel Ayme.

Dear guest, I want to thank you for your testimony regarding the quality and comfort you found in our Hotel Littéraire. I am happy to read that you haven't missed our many references to Marcel Aymé. In each room, which bears the name of a book, a friend, a character of the author, a quotation invites you to read more. Have you take time, back from a random stroll down the stairs and streets of the Butte, to browse through a book from our exceptional collection of Marcel Aymé's works? From "la Jument Verte" to "La Vouivre", from "Les Contes du chat perché" to "Le Vin de Paris", you enter in a world of wonder, humour and tenderness. It will be a pleasure to welcome you again to further explore Marcel Aymé and this district of Montmartre that he loved so much. sk4nder, Melbourne, Australia 04/06/2019

The Marcel Aymé is a neat little hotel nested in the back streets of Montmartre, up behind the popular Rue Lepic. My room was small but adequate in size - run of the mill for this part of town. See what I did there? A few small complaints on the room - there was no fridge, so it was impossible to cool a bottle of water, or heaven forbid a bottle of vin blanc ou champagne. There were also no glasses in the room, only plastic cups tsk tsk or mugs for coffee. The room was otherwise modern, near and clean. Plus the buffet breakfast was good value at €16, though I'd recommend the nearby Café Tabac as an alternative. I'll most likely stay again. Maybe I'll bring my own glasses.

"A lovely place in a terrific location"

User 06/05/2019

We had the great fortune of staying in a fifth-floor room with a balcony and a queen-sized bed, which is not always something you'll find in Paris guest quarters. The room was very nicely arranged and felt more spacious than it actually was. As is often the case in France, the toilet and (excellent) shower were in separate, very small rooms, with the sink in its own adjacent independent space. The bed was super-comfortable and amply pillowed. Everything was very clean, surprisingly quiet (given the nearby nightspots, and that we were there on a Saturday night), and cleverly decorated. The balcony had a view of the Eiffel Tower beyond the rooftops of the city to our left, and a traditional windmill at the end of the street to our right. A great place to photograph the sunset! I might also add that the staff were uniformly friendly and very helpful; and although there are restaurants and bakeries all over Montmartre, it's hard to beat the breakfast buffet offered by the Marcel Ayme. We spend a lot of time in Paris, and Montmartre in particular, and this is the best hotel we've found there.

We booked four nights at the Marcel Ayme and it was our first stay. We wanted somewhere close to the centre of Montmarte to avoid the worst of the hills. Not only is it well situated off a quiet road from Rue Lepic, it is a very modern place, bright, clean with a very warm and welcoming staff. We stayed four nights in one of their family rooms, pretty much an apartment. Large double and a high quality fold up sofa bed double. We got two largish room, a ground floor annexe next to the main hotel. With a small kitchenette, a microwave, fridge and 2 ring hob. We could make up a speedy breakfast for us and our two kids. I wouldn't try doing more than that in it really. The room was modern, great decor, warm and despite opening out onto the street, very quiet with great black out too. We could not fault it at all and it provided the perfect base for Montmarte. Place du Tertre is a 10 minute slow walk (those hills) and all the shops on Rue Lepic and Abbesses are the same. We would definitely go back and easily recommend it to others.

"Beautiful little hotel in amazing neighborhood"

User 19/02/2019

I really enjoyed my stay there. The room was spotless, as were the towels and bedding. The neighborhood was beautiful and full of character, with lots of cafes, shops, and a couple of grocery stores within walking distance. The metro was close as well. I especially appreciated the professionalism and hospitality of the staff- they were always available, super friendly, and helpful. I'm giving it 4 stars instead of five for a couple of reasons. 1- the Internet didn't work well in my room 2- I requested a room with two twin beds. They were so close that they were touching each other, and it was like having one big mattress, which defeats the purpose of requesting two beds. But these were minor inconveniences for me. I loved this place and would definitely go back next time I'm in town.

Loved this hotel, great location but if you have trouble walking or have bad knees avoid it at all costs. Close to all types of great things but it is on a hill. Just refurbished, very clean, staff very helpful. All spoke English, some spoke Asian languages (sorry I don't know which). Breakfast looked great but I just walked down the hill to a cafe each morning and people watched. Is in part of town where real people live but still close the tourist sites and Metros.

This hotel exceeds expectations. It is in a very busy and touristy area but located on a quiet street that leaves you still only steps away from restaurants and cafes. It is the perfect place to stay for families or otherwise. We had five rooms which including two sets of connected rooms and a single. The connected rooms for families has great space (for Paris it is super specious!) and are bright and comfortable. The single room, while smaller, is still comfortable. The service was excellent. We didn't have the breakfast because there are multiple cafes down the street to have breakfast but I did take a peak at it and it seemed like good value for what they had. Highly recommend!

The hotel is beautifully furnished and in great condition, the theme of the hotel giving you the vibe of the history of the area through a specific person. We had two kids and two connecting rooms, this worked well for us, the rooms are smaller than perhaps some are used to but that is part of the charm of the building, the area and the city. Loved it.

User 06/08/2018

We stayed for 4 nites had booked 3 rooms, 1 triple and 2 doubles. Rooms in general very small (one of the doubles nr 20 should be avoided it's even smaller) but nicely decorated paying homage to Marcel Aymeè. Toilet is tiny and indeed very uncomfortable for bigger people. Looks like it's a recently refurbished hotel. It's very close to Montmartre only 8mins but note it's uphill...Breakfast with quite small selection, just continental. Big minus that there is no fridge in the room and we had to cope with 35+ degrees every day...thankfully hotel staff was quite kind to fill up glasses with ice cubes every day so we could drink chilled water...Aircon works very well in the rooms.

"Not as great as the reviews make you believe"

User 03/07/2018

The location is nice if you want to be next to bars and restaurants. The problem was that it is on the hill, every time we returned to the hotel we had to go up the hill, even from the nearest metro if was up hill. We were there for 5 nights. The first night we got room no 2, be advised, do not get this room. They call it an apparment because it has a mini kitchen which is very nice, the room itself is tiny and it is at the level of the street, you cannot open the window because it is right on the pavement. At 7:00 in the morning you cannot sleep because it is like sleeping in the middle of the road, very noisy. After the first night we complained and they were very nice and moved us to a room on the third floor. This room was great. But there are no mini fridge in any of the regular rooms. On our last day in the hotel after 4 nights, when we where going outside to the city, the receptionist which was not there on any of the other nights insisted we would leave the room key with him even though we didn't want to and was not asked that before. He insisted this is the hotel policy, we grudgely compiled. When we returned that evening there was a female receptionist we never seen before, we told her our room number and she gave us the key, not even asking for our names, she would have given it to anybody who would have asked. One day we run out of toilet paper, the cleaning lady did not replace it. When we called the reception to ask for toilet paper and they told us to go down and get it. I would expect a hotel with 4 stars to bring toilet paper to the room. On our third night we bought a large bottle of soda and left it at the reception to put in the kitchen's fridge, the guy was nice and he labeled the bottle with our room number, in the morning when we tried to retrieve the bottle it was not in the fridge, it was set on the floor next to the fridge.

Dear Madam, Dear sir, Thank you for choosing us for this 5-night stay in the heart of Montmartre. The area is known for its famous hill which offers an exceptional vantage point on Paris when you arrive at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. The streets are hilly and this is the very charm of the neighbourhood! However, public transport allows you to travel the majority of the area without getting too tired. We have assigned to your request one of our apartments with their independent entrance and everything necessary to be autonomous during your stay (fridge, kitchenette, kitchen, safe, WiFi, air conditioning, etc.). I myself have slept within this apartment which is quite functional and soundproof so it amazes me that you have been so inconvenienced. Sometimes it is possible to perceive the noise of the cobblestones, but is it not an authentic Parisian experience? I'm sorry if our procedures surprised you. We actually keep all the keys at the reception to avoid losing them during your walks. It is also a way for us to know which clients are in the establishment or not in the event of a fire drill, for example. Exceptionally, we agreed to keep your bottle in the fridge. It stayed cool throughout the night, but in the early morning we had to remove it in order to receive our deliveries and start the breakfast service. That's why it was cooler when you recovered it in the morning. The whole team is dedicated to your daily comfort. We hope you enjoyed all these little touches and you will come back to enjoy a new literary break. Mathieu PREVOT General Manager Hôtel Littéraire Marcel Aymé 4* +33 1 42 55 05 06

Our room was beautiful, fresh refurbished with a balconette, brand new bathroom and everything that we could possibly have needed. The staff at reception were extremely helpful and the friendliest people we met during our entire time in Paris. We found the location perfect as we were away from the CBD but it was easily accessed by public transport. It is an easy walk to the Moulin Rouge, which is lovely to see at night time and Montmartre is a beautiful little walk away. With each room having its own story from the author Marcel Aymes dedicated to it and the story avaliable for you to read, it just made it that little bit more special.

BELLTRIP2010, Newtownabbey, United Kingdom 20/06/2018

Just back fro 3 nights in this hotel. Recently renovated so very clean. A few good points and bad points to follow......rooms are decorated paying homage to various artists in this boutique hotel...... Good......in Montmarte "village" with great charm, very clean, the best air con. we've ever found and we travel widely including the USA and the Far East, daily maid service, friendly staff, coffee and tea facilities at the start, very comfy beds to rival any cruise ship, "a slice of cake available.....during the day", safe provided, 4 little choux pastries supplied to guests on arrival, laminate floor with bedside carpet runners, some newspapers in reception, electronic room locks, great double glazing, 5 minutes walk to Abbess metro (use the elevator), Sacre Coeur 5 minutes away with great Paris views..... Bad points.....NO ICE, in the hotel at all, our room had 2 designer office chairs and no armchair/settee, no cupboard to store clothes on shelves in thin wardrobe, no glasses but one materialised for a glass of wine as only plastic/kids style containers, tea, coffee and milk not replenished after 1st day, some tea stains not cleaned bedside cupboard, there was supposed to be an "honour bar" as there is no conventional bar.....this did not exist, no "nibbles" at reception as stated,a phone call to the hotel enquiring about a shuttle before we booked said there was none, but one was organised when we were leaving (?).....38 Euro to CDG, taxi from CDG is crazy 70 Euro!!!, breakfast is 16 Euro each (not used) and no other meals available so we were told but many restaurants 100 meters away, rolls etc frozen in freezer not fresh (?), tiny lavatory area......I cant see how anyone "on the large size" would fit, staff seemed to be all agency so not familiar with the hotel services, 1 English channel out of 30 is CNN,

Dear Madam, Dear Sir, You have quite understood what makes the soul of our establishment. We have dedicated it to a famous author of the Butte de Montmartre: Marcel Aymé. Like you, he surveyed the streets of Paris to marvel at monuments such as the Sacred Heart. We offer our guests the pleasure of a few pastries or cakes during the afternoon at the reception to awaken your child's soul. I regret however that we did not appreciate the decoration and the clean equipments of our rooms. Know that they are all unique and invite everyone to delve into the universe of our dear writer. On less solicitation, we would not hesitate to introduce you to a different room. The breakfast room is transformed as the day progresses into a screening room and a Honesty Bar. It opens every evening from 5pm to 10pm and allows everyone to feel at home: you just have to serve yourself and enjoy a relaxing and comfortable place to enjoy a drink. We offer our customers a taxi to go to the different places of the capital. Taxi drivers are dependent on the sometimes dense traffic of Paris and maybe that's what influenced the price of your ride. However, all the staff are well acquainted with all the hotel services and it amazes me that you may have perceived a lack of understanding on their part. I am at your disposal if you would like to discuss it more extensively. In Montmartre or elsewhere, a thousand things are still to be discovered, you now know where to stay when you come to Paris. Close to the Metro, lots of cafes, Sacre-Coeur, Chat Noir, Moulin Rouge, Laupin Agile, to name a few landmarks. Balcony overlooks Rue Tholozé but very little sound when the window was closed. Easy walk to and from Metro (Blue line 2 - Blanche), for most people (wheel chair, walker, etc., would be very tricky). Nice breakfast hosted by a wonderful young man (manager/host), who was more than happy to chat in both English and French. He gave us a great recommendation for the Gustav Klimt exhibition (which was amazing), and was without a doubt one of the nicest people you could meet on one's travels. Wifi is less than brilliant in the room, and the prices very steep for a beer in the honour bar, but those problems were easily solved by leaving the hotel and going in just about any direction more than 30 steps. Room was spotless, sheets and pillows everything you could hope for. There is both elevator and stairs, so access is good. Take some time to learn about Marcel Amey before you go as he is an interesting character, and then go and see the statue just up the street. All in all, great experience!

We booked a room via booking.com but the booking was cancelled twice. After contacting the hotel by phone a couple of times I ended up booking directly with them. Staff were polite and professional and they all spoke perfect English. The room was small but had all we needed for a 4 nights stay, It was clean and the bed was comfortable. Toiletries only comprised of soap and shower cap but to be fair I Didn t ask if they had shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush and toothpaste. The hotel is a bit up the hill from moulins rouge but totally doable even if you are 8.5 months pregnant like me! The area is really lovely with easy access to the centre and all the tourist attractions. We would definitely stay there again.

We arrived at the hotel on 2.4.18 for a 3 night stay. Upon arrival there was a room available (number 15 on the first floor) however when we arrived it was 2 single beds. We ended up being that busy on our trip I never bothered asking for a room with a double and the view was a busy street in Paris just like I'd imagined. Really impressed with the fresh modern decor of the hotel and how it had a real new and clean feel to it! Room had a large flat screen Samsung TV which allowed for screen mirroring which worked great in watching series in the evening via my Nerflix account. The rooms also have a Nespresso coffee machine however I never used this and generally got coffee from machine in the dining room in the morning. We never received any toiletries until the second day however I have no doubt if I'd have asked it would have been provided. There was one member of staff in the evening who generally was pleasant but on 2 occasions was preoccupied and found he was not the most accommodating. However I found the staff to generally be friendly and welcoming. I would 100 % stay here again and would recommend this hotel to friends and family. Attached are some photos!!
