"Room for improvement in some areas."
The hotel is ideally placed right in the centre of Caen with a secure underground car park directly opposite the entrance. The restaurant 'Le Royal' was next door but is not owned by the hotel!? The room we had was adequate but the toilet seat was loose and the shower dripped onto the bathroom floor. Breakfast again was adequate but nothin g special and on one day, they simply forgot to put out scrambled eggs! One staff member stood out - Remi. His cheerful 'can-do' attitude was something the other staff members should aspire to. Because of him, my rating was four stars instead of three!

"Large comfortable room, helpful service"
LOCATION: On the Place de la République, it was with within easy walking distance of major sights: Abbaye aux Hommes and Hôtel de Ville in one direction, Abbaye aux Dames and the Château, the remnants of Guillaume le Conquérant's (William the Conqueror's) and his missus, Mathilde, fortified bolthole, in the other. Bayeux is just a 20 minute train ride away and not to be missed: the amazing tapestry is still delighting the masses with its story after a thousand years and nearby is one of the most elegant Gothic cathedrals in Europe. ROOM: The large de luxe room with two sets of French windows onto a small balcony overlooking the Place de la République was extremely comfortable. Large bathroom with plenty of room for toiletries. SERVICE: Amiable and smiling throughout with welcoming, knowledgable reception staff. BREAKFAST: Included in the de luxe room rate I'd opted for and good value. France is a carnivore's paradise but as a vegetarian, I was well satisfied with the selection of summer fruits and cheeses.

"Amazing hospitality !"
The hotel has been renovated so most of the interiors, fittings & amenities were new. The size of the room was decent not too large not too small but definitely much better than the Paris hotels. Had breakfast one day and I feel they could have little more variety for 14€. Plus the AC in the room was not working to it's optimal capacity given it was 107F but it was bearable. All in all I loved the place.

"The Best of the Best Westerns"
The nicest Best Western I've stayed at since the 90's. The U.S. BW's should follow their lead. Clean, nice breakfast and very nice staff. Jeremy and Remi were very helpful. I'll be happy to stay there again.

"Best hotel in Caen"
Met the best hosts, Jeremy and Dany, at Best Western Royal in Caen. They are the nicest hosts in Caen. They gave us the best services while we were staying at the hotel. They gave us directions where to go for sight seeing and what to do in town. I'll highly recommend people to stay at Best Western Royal in Caen.

"Excellent location with some issues"
This BW in the very center of Caen has an amazing location, close to everything, so you can cover the attractions on foot. It is set in a pedestrian zone overlooking the central park with interesting sculptures. Staff was very kind and check in fast. Our room was pretty small and they asked an odd question if we wanted it to be cleaned next morning ??! Our safe deposit box did not work, asked twice for that, the guy came to our room but it couldn't be fixed. No offer from the hotel to change the room. There is only one English news channel. Didn't have our breakfast here as it was not included in the price, and it costed around 14 Euros pp which is way overpriced.

"A real gem"
We stayed in Caen as a base for visiting the D-Day beaches. Caen is beautiful and I recommend taking time to explore the city if you are visiting. The Royal Hotel if centrally situated and is a very clean and smart hotel. Our room was a little small but fine for a few days. Breakfast was more than adequate if a little uninspiring. Overall clean and did the job of a short term stay very well.

"Excellent value for money"
If you are the traveler visiting Caen for a night or two by car, this hotel comes in very handy. Right in front of the hotel is a large underground car park and the main attractions of the town are within easily walking distance. The bathroom has a nice bathtub and the room is very cleanly kept. The reception is very polite and friendly. The tariff was also reasonable, found no flaw during our stay at all.

"Fabulous hotel"
Man we were pleasantly surprised by how great this hotel was. The location is perfect, right in the middle of town with plenty of choices for food and shopping. Briac at the front desk was extraordinary, he helped us with directions and anything we needed. The rooms were cozy, with everything you need and we had a great view up on our balcony. We're already looking forward to coming back!

"Fabulous location in this fantastic location"
Clean rooms , fantastic front of house gentleman and nothing is too much trouble. Briac is so helpful and Caen as a destination is a little gem. Nice restaurant and intimate bar area . Great shopping . I would recommend this hotel . Underground parking opposite

"Super nice, super friendly - great location for a base when exploring the area!"
Wow, just a fabulous stay. We visited for two nights in September (10th and 11th) for exploring the Landing Beaches, and World War II sites of Normandy. The hotel is situated on a nice square so we had very nice views out of our window. There is construction going on (improvements) to the square, but all the businesses were open and there was still lots of activity. The room was spacious and we received great housekeeping service every day. The hotel was super clean throughout. Breakfast, included in the room rate, was very good, and there was lots of variety. You were able to visit anytime during the several hours each morning that the buffet service was provided, rather than having to make a reservation for a table, which was great. The staff, including Laure, at the Front Desk, were very friendly and helpful in calling cabs, giving recommendations for restaurants, etc. She was especially nice and pleasant with each encounter. We had a great lunch/afternoon snack there, also, at the outdoor bistro, Café Coronne, at the hotel. We treated ourselves to the delicious "charcuterie" board, which featured the wonderful patés, sliced meats and cheeses, wonderful French butter, and assorted greens, and great bread. For dessert the creme brullee and café au lait was fantastic! This hotel is highly recommended as it's super conveniently located downtown, so you can walk lots of different places easily. The only drawback was the construction, which isn't the fault of the hotel, but did take away visually just a tiny bit. All in all, though, great visit.
