Hotel De Verdun 1882, BW Signature Collection

The hotel is a very nice boutique hotel with about 30 rooms. Originally a large rich private home, operating as hotel 100+ years. Fully refurbished about 5 years ago. Nice location. Christophe on front desk is very helpful has been there s long time. Stayed 2 nights as break from Madrid to Milan. Loved the funicular in the old town and Basilica notre dame at top, walking around old town and james joyce irish pub in old town. Ate at Ramen restaurant 1 block from hotel. I saw a self service laundromat 1 block from hotel. Many machines. Back to hotel. Hotel very clean. Contemporary. Comfortable bed and plenty hot water Breakfast is limited but high quality. Easier to eat in hotel in my opinion. Although i rated hotel a 5 , I do have a few negative comments. We prefer to stay in hotels that do not allow pets. The BW website still lists this hotel “as pets not accepted”. We saw a dog there 2 days. We also saw a dog in breakfast eating area. My wife and french woman sitting next to her did not appreciate dog in breakfast area. Also there is no english speaking tv channel. Not british tv or cnn international. Suggest you add at least 1 for english speakers. Owners sent us email but i never had opportunity to meet or talk with owner. I was surprised in small hotel , one of owners not visible. Although I rated a 5, i would not stay again. We prefer no pets in hotel other than service animals and especially in breakfast eating arrangements We were told policy changed 3 months earlier to allow pets. Suggest you change policy back to not accept pets. If not you should update BW website to clearly communicate you now allow pets. Our only issue was the new pet policy that is not to this day communicated on the BW website.

A wonderful, friendly, cosy hotel with a fabulous location. All staff were unfailingly helpful, courteous, knowledgeable and friendly. Ideally, we would like the rate to include breakfast. We had breakfast one morning, and it is very good quality, but seems a little expensive, given the very many options available nearby as alternatives.

Hotel de Verdun 1882 is a charming and comfortable hotel in a beautifully renovated old building. It is located very close to public transport and within walking distance of the main attractions of Lyon. The Christmas Market was in the next square. Our bedroom was comfortable and well equipped. Without exception, the staff were friendly and informative. There is an optional breakfast served in the reception lobby which we had on three of our five mornings. The wide choice of food was of very high quality (much of it organic and locally sourced).

This hotel is great. The location is ideal. The staff were courteous, friendly and very helpful. The owners, Gilles and Isabelle, were wonderful. They were so hospitable and engaging. The hotel itself and the rooms were clean and very comfortable. The breakfast they offered were fresh and of good quality. Our family had a lovely stay in the Hotel De Verdun 1882, BW Signature Collection, Lyon. Staying at this hotel made our visit to Lyon a very memorable one. This hotel was excellent! I highly recommend staying here. It was one of the highlights of my visit. The owners, Isabella and Gilles, were there to greet us in the lobby each day. They were wonderful: friendly, kind, helpful and willing to answer all our many questions. They offered advice and recommendations for Lyon. At the hotel they have created a booklet with all of their favorite places in Lyon, not just restaurants, but shopping, museums, and day trips. The hotel itself is charming, full of art and interesting books. And it is spotless. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms and lobby. The rooms are so bright and fresh. The hotel is quiet and comfortable. They offer breakfast, and honestly I was a bit skeptical expecting a typical hotel breakfast. But this was delicious and fresh everyday. Fresh croissants, pain au chocolat, and baguettes. Local, ripe fruit. Eggs, meats and cheeses. And, of course, coffees and teas. The location is great. We walked to most of our activities. I found Lyon to be very walk-able.

An attractive building with its charming facade. Customer service was welcoming. Small rooms, a little claustrophobic facing internally into other apartments, but hidden with pot plants so you weren't being watched. We had 2 rooms, one split beds for children, and entrance door to both could be closed off so there was interconnection with both rooms. Fittings were quaint and in keeping with the heritage building. Limited space for storage but we managed. Small bathroom in the main bedroom with limited space for storing bath items or towels. Distance to old town was a fair walk. Originally we booked thinking we would travel from Perrache station however there is limited service from this station and had to uber to Part Dieu for most of our travels to other towns. Apart from being small rooms, the only other negative is the laundry service. We had asked at the desk how much the laundry was and advised that it is dependent on the size of the laundry bag. No pricing list could be located by the receptionist. The next day we left 1/2 a small plastic bad with reception. Again no pricing was provided. When checking out we notice we were charged 71 euro for laundry. We did not want to raise this at the time of checkout due to guests in the reception, however this is very expensive price for laundry, considering it was 1/2 a bag and mainly small items. If we had known prior we would not have proceeded. Recommendations for restaurants provided and we went to 2 of them. One which is just a few steps away - Bedda Terra Mia. which I highly rate and we thoroughly enjoyed high quality dinner and drinks. The other was the best which was Carmelo closer to the old town. Very eclectic and you need a reservation. We asked the hotel receptionist on our day of arrival if she could assist with reservation as it was my birthday, and maybe it was a communication issue, but she advised us that all the recommended restaurants contact details are on their website - asserting that we contact them directly. Anyway, I reserved online for our last day in Lyon. An enjoyable stay however I would not stay in this area due to our travel preferences.

We had to do a PCR test before we could continue in Switzerland. Couldn't find a place to test the next day. The hotel helped us and we were able to test a few hours later. We also received very good advice for visiting Lyon. Thank you. We were very pleased with our choice and would stay there again anytime.

Lovely cosy and comfortable hotel within an easy walk of all major sights. Family owned and operated they were very kind and helpful. Clean modern amenities and lovely continental breakfast. Highly recommend, was the perfect place to stay for our 1st night in Lyon.

Hotel de Verdun is a wonderful hotel. Close to Perrache station in a slightly funky (in a good way) neighborhood, it's a very comfortable place to spend a few days in Lyon. The room was perfectly clean, bed was delightfully comfortable, bathroom big enough and design and furnishing of room hotel was excellent. Staff was uniformly friendly and helpful. Gilles and Isabelle, the owners and operators of the hotel, were justifiably proud of their establishment and the folks who operate it. We look forward to staying at Hotel de Verdun 1882 again, highly recommend.

We felt welcomed and valued the moment we stepped through the door into the light, airy, appealingly decorated main hall. The staff were friendly, efficient, and helpful, relaxing us after our travel and first encounter with Lyon traffic. Our room and ensuite were spotless, the bed was extremely comfortable, and the doors closed without a sound.

We received a very warm welcome from the hotel owners. The hotel just finished renovating and it shows. The entrance is really chique. We had a very pretty and neat room. The interior is quite unique and they preserved the elegant style of the hotel. The location is also perfect. Closeby is a parking garage and most sights are within walking distance. 10/10 would visit again!

We spent 11 nights at this wonderful little hotel on the Presqu' île, located within an easy walk of Place Bellecour and Rue de la République and many of Lyon's major sites and just a few minutes from train, tram and bus services. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable. A variety of choices for breakfast included seasonal fruit and local products and was served in an attractive dining room. The hosts, Giles and Isabelle, were friendly and welcoming and they and their staff were only to happy to assist with any queries or needs we had.

We stayed here for three days in August 2019. The staff was the best I've seen. Friendly, attentive and always helpful, from the desk clerks to the breakfast area to the cleaning staff, with a special tip of my hat to Christoph and Gilles. I am trying to learn French but I'm still a beginner. Christoph and Gilles were patient enough to allow me to attempt to speak/practice my French. They all speak very good English, so they could have insisted on speaking English. Always friendly and nice to see their smiles every evening when we got back to the hotel. There was no airconditioning, but the limestone walls kept things cool enough that with a fan we were very comfortable. Also, the location can't be beat.

Hotel is 3 minutes walk from Perrache TGV station, close to many casual restaurants. Very warm welcome from new owners, who run the hotel as a family business? My room (on the back of the hotel) was very quiet, well equipped, recently renovated. I received good advice when looking for a restaurant nearby, and excellent guidance to enjoy 1 hour expo in superb Muséee des Confluences at the end of a busy day. Breakfast was great for me, with excellent bread and local cheese

Another nice hotel we stayed at while in Lyon. Staff was really good. Giles(?) made sure to be up at 4:00 am on New Year's Day when I left and offered to make coffee, made sure I had water. They also allowed me to cut my reservation by a day since my plans had changed. Each staff member I met was very friendly. Room was nice and clean,. Bed was comfortable enough. issues: -Heat didn't heat very well. It was in the mid 30s outside, just would have liked a little more warmth. But then, could have just been me. - No heat in the bathroom. See above. - Not an issue, but I guess I just assumed ther would be a small fridge in the room, but no. Good hotel and wasn't especially expensive.

Small hotel not far from the center. Very kind staff (best ever).The room was simple but clean, maybe the bathroom could be better. The hotel has a small car park very close to the hotel itself. Breakfast is quite good (sweet or salty options available)

I have to recommend anyone who comes to Lyon to arrive at this hotel. The hotel is right in the city center with parking. There is a lot to do in the area. We made a trip to Europe and this is one of 6 hotels that we have reached and I have to say that he is the best. The owner of the hotel and the staff treated amazing, we had an amazing experience at the boutique hotel that feels like a house. The cleanliness in the room was really excellent. We were with a baby and took care of us to bed and everything we had to be. We will definitely go back there again on the next vacation to Lyon. I am very recommended.

Stayed for one night, room was lovely and clean. It had squeaky floorboards but hey it's a very old building. We met three different staff and they were all lovely. The breakfast was a little over priced but there was plenty of it.

The management and reception staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating. We had a great experience here. They organised a taxi to the airport and allowed us to keep one room free of charge for the day. Wow. You don't often get that kind of service! Thanks to all the staff and management - greatly appreciated. In addition, they were also helpful with local tips and knowledge and spoke great English- better than our French! Hotel is clean and well serviced. Close to shops, restaurants and some of the main attractions in Lyon. Great value for money.

We stayed at this hotel over the long Easter weekend. The room was fairly large, and the sofa had been converted into a sofa bed for our daughter. The bathroom was small but functional and clean. Wifi generally worked well. Staff was friendly and serviceable. The hotel is centrally located and close to Perrache train station, ten minutes walk from Place Bellecour and just over 15 minutes walk from Vieux Lyon.... overall good value for money.

Great affordable hotel, clean, excellent and friendly service, well located and best of all, family friendly. We stayed at a family room with our two young children, very difficult to find this type of room (2 double beds) in most hotels regardless of your budget, and hotels are bit pricey here in Lyon. Luckily found a review mentioning the family room and glad took the advice, room is good size even for two very active kids aged 4 and 5, good heating system for these winter nights. Breakfast buffet is limited in options but good. There's a self-serve laundromat down the street and can pay for the machines with credit card (pin type), also there's a supermarket and lots and lots of little shops selling almost anything you could need and even more at a the nearby Victor Hugo Ave. (pedestrian type).

Room had no air conditioning, so had to leave windows open - which meant the mosquito's got a feast. Room was very small, but not an issue for me personally. Only had hot water once from the shower, happily the room temperature counter acted this. Lots of noise started around 6:15 am, but I was on UK time so it felt like 5:15. Wifi was ok for browsing. Whilst it wasn't the worst hotel I have stayed at, I would't stay again.

We stayed here for 3 nights while watching the European Rugby finals. We had room 33 and it was a good size with double bed and a sitting area with sofa. The room was clean as was the bathroom and the water hot. Wifi is available free in the room. The room did not have air con but this was not a problem for us as the weather was not hot. The lift is minute so could be a problem if several people were leaving at the same time with luggage. Breakfast was simple but boiled eggs were cooked to order. The rest was typical continental fare but the bread was good and croissants fresh. The coffee from the machine was excellent. The hotel is in a good position and a short walk from Bellecour Square and the old town. There are several restaurants in the same road as the hotel and hundreds in the old town. The metro is 10 minutes walk away. Reception staff all spoke excellent English and were friendly and helpful. A good 3 star hotel. When we stayed it was extremely good value.

Except for a small hiccup concerning my reservation (nothing serious), I found my stay at this hotel good value for money. All staff members were very friendly and spoke good English, providing a few tips for looking around the city (I think 2 nights are adequate to get a good enough feel for the place). The hotel provided me with a quiet room, as I requested in advance, consequently it was at the back with no view. Also, the room, although fair sized, was a little subdued in terms of light but these are very minor quibbles. Breakfast was simple, but a reasonably good choice and quantity and nothing to complain about (I particularly liked the authentic French ‘pain' though). The hotel was conveniently located within an easy 10 minutes' walk from the rail/tram station. There were plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. If I was visiting Lyon again I'd certainly consider this hotel.

The location of this hotel is near a train station and a short walk from the city centre and "square". It is housed in an old building with small lifts and typical retro place. Rooms are very clean and organised. However a little small, could be due to the structure of this building. Staff at reception is very nice and courteous and remembers me after just one night of stay! Recommend this place anytime!

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. I knew it was in a good location, the 2nd arrondisement in Lyon, at the heart of the citybut wasn't expecting too much. The bed was very comfortable and the room was nice. Not huge, but still nice and comfortable. The front desk staff was superb - friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The hotel doesn't have any parking facility, but the staff told me of a commuter lot right around the corner where I parked overnight for 4 Euros, rather than using the public parking facility at 20 Euros. Great tip! Plenty of restaurants nearby and well located to walk around the city of Lyon. I stayed on 2 November 2015 and paid less than 100 Euros for the room, a good value for a center city location in France. The breakfast was kind of meager so I just found a café nearby to eat. I would definitely stay here again.

Good location not far from the train station and walking distance from the place Carnot , subway , buses .... the room are old but clean , bath room is very small but recently renovated We were on the street side and got awaken from the student of the school on the front the most difficult was that we didn t have any A/C we were suffocating in the room and had to try to sleep with window open (street noise) when sleeping is an issue in a hotel .... well not very good

You need a map to find this hotel. It's situated at Gare de Perrache ( TGV train station). Look for the exit of the place of Carnot. This hotel allow us to explore every day life of French People. You have every kind of local store around hotel. Plus you can walk to tourist attraction. Ex le Vieux Lyon. We did our laundry in the laverie nearby. Check weather before you go, no airconitioner. It could be really warm in the summer in France.

Good location, clean room. A bit old on the inside but well kept. Bathroom door couldn't be closed. No air conditioning but we could use fans that the receptionist gave us. They were kind enough to have our bikes in the conference room for the night and the receptionists were very friendly, spoke good english.

We picked this hotel because it looked very convenient to the trains and the Resistance Museum. Our room and bath was small but fine for 1 night. The included breakfast (for 2) made the $116 per night rate a good deal for us. Friendly, helpful front desk staff made for a better experience.

Good location, big room, comfortable furniture, superb bed, but ... level of amenities in room is lower than comparable BW hotels (i.e. no water boiler and coffee/tea in the room) and no possibility to adjust room temperature. Also roadworks just in front of the hotel in early April, which might be bothering if you stay in front room during the day. Don't get me wrong though. It is really an OK hotel and I had a pleasant, uneventful stay ;)

This hotel is towards cheaper end of BW range, but comfortable and good value. Close to Perrache station and river cruise quays. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast not outstanding but adequate. Accommodation and all facilities clean and working. Quiet street.

The staff as nice and helpful. The location was good for exploring downtown. Hotel is small and could use some updating. Small balcony room was nice to have. The rooms was hot and noisy as it was on street and we had to have the windows open. A/C would be a good addition.
