The Welcombe Hotel, Sure Hotel Collection by Best Western

We had a very enjoyable 2 night stay having visited the hotel last year. The hotel is perfectly situated for visiting Stratford, just 5 minutes away by car. The huge grounds include a golf course and beautiful gardens. We were very well looked after during our stay by the friendly staff. A particular mention to Bilal at reception who always goes above and beyond to ensure all guests have a memorable stay. A mega asset to the hotel.

Our room was shabby, dirty and very disappointing. It smelt strongly of cigarette smoke, the carpets were filthy, the sink was cracked and the shower was blocked. Even the toiletries felt cheap and lacking in quality. For nearly £300 a night, this was completely unacceptable. The restaurant experience was equally disappointing. The minimal staff available were clearly trying their best, but they were let down by poor management, organisation and training. Food arrived very late and, incredibly, at completely different times for different members of our family. Some people were even forgotten about altogether. Overall, we left feeling thoroughly ripped off and extremely disappointed. At nearly £300 per night, we expected a far higher standard of accommodation and service. The experience simply did not come close to representing value for money.

I had a really lovely experience staying at this hotel, and I wanted to take the time to mention some of the staff who made my stay particularly memorable. I believe the receptionist was called Bilal, although I may have remembered his name incorrectly. I stayed for one night on 31 August, so hopefully the hotel can identify who was working that afternoon/evening. I mentioned to him at reception that I was planning to ask a girl to be my girlfriend, and he genuinely seemed excited for me. He listened to what I had planned and went out of his way to change my room to one with the best view. It was such a thoughtful gesture and made the whole experience even more special. He was incredibly professional, friendly and attentive, and I was genuinely impressed by the way he conducted himself. He is a real credit to the hotel. The cleanliness of the room was also impeccable. Everything was spotless and well presented, which made the stay even more enjoyable. We also had food at the hotel, and although it wasn't really the type of food I normally like, I have to say it was very good. The two young waiters who looked after us were fantastic. They were extremely patient and friendly, particularly because we arrived quite last minute and then took quite a while deciding what we wanted to order! Unfortunately, I don't remember their names, but I hope the hotel will be able to identify them from the date and time. Overall, it was a genuinely memorable stay. The little personal touches and the way the staff treated us made a big difference. A huge thank you to everyone involved, especially the receptionist and the two young waiters. They represented the hotel exceptionally well. Sorry I wrote this late 😄

Had a really great stay at The Welcombe this weekend. The team were really lovely and helpful (thank you Christine - Reservations, Bilal - Reception, Claire - Restaurant and Ben at the Golf Course). The Spa is wonderful with fantastic facilities and I had a really amazing massage (sorry I didn't catch the Therapists name as I floated out!). The hotel is set in beautiful grounds and located really close to Stratford if you want to venture out.

This is a beautiful hotel a former 19th century period mansion. It has lovely original features. It's surrounded by a golf course and has a spa. Neither of which I can comment on as we didn't use them. We paid £175. For one night so not cheap. That included breakfast which was self service and very very good and the staff were friendly. So all good so far. Until, our room it was a standard room. And it was not clean, the bathroom was dirty with grime on the sink fittings, a dirty shower curtain. Cheap shampoo etc and no spare toilet roll, towels dumped in the bathroom instead of being placed on the rack. No complimentary water. Lazy cleaning, very lazy. Bed was ok and clean bedding room just tired! Went to the bar at 6-15 and an ordered 2 club sandwiches. So I paid for them and waited, then the bar man came over and said the kitchen doesn't do sandwiches after 6pm! Nothing mentioned on the menu. It was a sandwich the easiest thing to make in a kitchen. I thought I would check with reception and whilst trying to have a conversation with the nice receptionist I was shouted at by a woman who appeared to be in charge saying there's a sign on the bar they should have directed me to it, directed me? Clearly the staff at the bar had no idea. So I trudged back to the bar now a long queue as people getting refunds for sandwiches or changing their orders . I did find the sign, it was hidden at the end of the bar behind a point of sale for crisps and a half drank pint of lager dumped there. Yes table cleaning and glass collection not high on the menu here. They ran out of wine glasses.I had to asked for our table to be cleaned. To be fair the lads behind the bar were great, clearly confused but that's down to staff training. So don't ask for a sandwich after 6pm yep ridiculous and it's on the menu but nothing on the menu to say that. I moved the sign for them and put in a position where it could be seen. You're welcome! So in summing up they need to raise their game.

I would like share a very honest review and experience my friend and I had at the spa of the Welcombe hotel. I picked this hotel as I have had many happy experiences prior to this visit, with my husband, we have also stayed in the hotel lots of times. However on this occasion the spa and facilities were not pleasant at all. On arrival we were greeted by a lovely guy who gave us our locker Padlocks, and explained everything perfectly, we then got changed and went for a swim and we had both booked treatments, everything was fine with my massage, However my friend came out from her massage in pain, I had requested that we both have a aromatherapy massage, mine was perfect, but my friends was a Swedish massage which was way too much pressure for her, she said there had been a breakdown in communication as to why she was given a Swedish massage, she spent the rest of the day relaxing because she was in pain. We then went for afternoon tea which was absolutely awful, my friend is gluten free and I had informed the spa of this before we arrived, she could not eat any of it as the scones did not appear to be gluten free, it was all very dry and the sandwiches were definitely not freshly made, so we both left most of it, but the worst part of this experience was the dead flies on the table next to us, which had not been cleaned, so this definitely put us off eating the afternoon tea. Finally we then went to get changed to leave and in my friends shower was a clump of dark hair, the cubicles had obviously not been cleaned or inspected, the lockers are run down and the whole place is in need of a full refurbishment, the guy who was serving in the afternoon was the rudest person ever, he had upset another customer who i tried to calm down in the changing room, she was so upset because she had asked for a locker padlock. I have tried to contact the spa management and hotel via email before I posted this review, however its now been weeks and still not had a reply, how bad is the customer service, when you cant even get a response from a complaint.

We had a really lovely stay, would definitely be happy to return. A special mention to Bilal on reception, who was incredibly helpful, professional, and welcoming. He clearly knew what he was doing, which made everything smooth and easy from the moment we arrived. The pool was great and breakfast had plenty of options. The bar team was also friendly and attentive. Overall, a great experience. Thank you to the whole team, and especially Bilal, for making our stay even better!

We stayed for 2 nights for a wedding at a hotel nearby. Out of 10 I would say 9. There are only two criticisms I can say is the attention to detail in the rooms. A quit paint over is all that's needed. Also room service and tray charge is quite expensive. I only stayed bed and breakfast the room was clean, beds comfortable, breakfast was amazing. I won't comment on the spa because I didn't get a chance to use it with such a short stay. The staff were beyond helpful, one night I was having a hard time taking a few drinks back to the room, a member of staff noticed this took everything to the room for me the room card failed to open the door this was resolved in under 5 mins. Would I stay again? Yes the rooms need some TLC but not much. If room service seems expensive don't request it. Plus those charges maybe best western and not the hotels choice if it wasn't part of a chain.

This was supposed to be a memorable stay celebrating my daughter's 50th birthday it will be one to remember but all for the wrong reasons. !! No lift to upstairs which I found extremely difficult with heavy luggage fortunately a member of staff a very polite young man offered to carry our luggage for us this was the only member of staff that actually spoke to us during our stay !! Our room was not the cleanest and uninviting the mattresses were unbelievably stained also the mattress topper's ! The tv more times than not was unwatchable.The spa ladies changing rooms were not clean and flooded with water another visitor A&E worker put towels down to help prevent a slip hazard!! We spent some time in the jacuzzi which would have been lovely if we hadn't had to endure 3 youths on the sun loungers right opposite all smoking vapes !! My daughter went to go in the outdoor pool but was met with 2 youths blowing their noses into the water which they found hilarious !my daughter physically scooping phlegm etc out with her hands !! She decided not to go in as it became a health hazard! We decided to cut our time in the spa short as we both felt physically sick !! We spoke to the young gentleman on the spa reception who informed us that they had previously been spoken to ref their behaviour. Breakfast was not inviting overcooked/dried up food this was at 8am breakfast started at 7.30am I asked a member of staff for freshly cooked eggs which seemed like a big task to ask ! Some of the plates were not clean the 1st had an eyelash on the second had bits on 3rd time lucky i had a clean plate !The best thing was the toast can't go wrong when you do it yourself! The table could have done with a wipe the floor area around tables were not clean, my cup was stained in the bottom obviously not checked when table was laid by staff !! Going through reviews as far back as 2025 complaints are very similar which concerns me that a year on they have not been dealt with so very sad really.Note to self check reviews before booking !! On checking out we passed on our complaints and Health and safety concerns to the receptionist who was most apologetic and later that day we received an email with reference to a full refund.

In a lovely location and building looks grand from the outside, however…. Room 316 was very tired, dirty and very basic. No air con, no fridge. Mattresses & duvets were heavily stained. TV kept switching itself off and glitched, which I presume is poor connectivity. Limited channels. My mom compared it to a YMCA. Duty manager made aware, said they don't have budget rooms and didn't offer to move us. Not worth the money paid. The spa - the floor in the changing room was very wet, another guest was putting towels on the floor as they were concerned about slips, trips and falls (A&E worker). They were a group of anti-social lads vaping at the poolside, dry humping the poolside and emptying their noses in the outside thermal spa and jacuzzi. I scooped out flem as I sat on the side. Couldn't bare to stay in there, disgusting. Spa staff were informed of this however the outside pool remained open with other guests in it, and simply said they already spoken to the group? We wanted to use the facilities the morning before we left however after experiencing the above, we couldn't guarantee it was clean. Breakfast - dried out food, dirty plates, cups, tables and floor in the restaurant Staff - some need training in customer service This was a post birthday treat, my mom was quite upset with the whole stay. Would not stay here again. Fortunately we have a full refund being processed via booking.com

Great hotel. Felt like I was in a National Trust building. Our room was clean and bed very comfortable. The spa and swimming pool was amazing. Great views and a lovely walk down to Stratford through the fields. Great choices at breakfast. Evening meals were delicious too. Very friendly staff. Stayed for 3 nights, would have liked to of stayed longer.

Lovely hotel in a great location. We had a great stay and made use of the Spa facilities which were excellent. Dinner in the bar was very tasty, we sat outside to make the most of the garden views. Staff were excellent- friendly and attentive. The only negative was the breakfast-sadly long waits for the refresh of foods and then when it came out it was cold.

Stunning location and gardens for a drink at an evening however the overall experience was quite under whelming from the photos we viewed. The building and rooms does need someTLC. We had no toilet paper in the room. The shuttered blind was thick in dust. We had afternoon tea and whilst the food was nice the service was shocking. Spa facilities were good. It was good value for money but some greater attention to detail is needed here

Upon arrival we were delayed on check in. This was resolved with a complimentary drink for all the party and free breakfast. Getting said drink was delayed by slow and unmotivated bar staff. When getting to our room we immediately noticed the smell from the bathroom. Though it was apparent that there was nothing left in the toilet, the smell was as if it had not been flushed after the previous visitors. There was also numerous mid length black hairs on the bathroom floor. We were advised that 10 cleaning staff were off sick on that day. The decor in the room was damaged and aged looking. No sugar left with the teabags/coffee only sweetener. As we are allergic to dairy we had to ask the Bar staff for alternative milks. We were then met with rude, sarcastic and unmotivated staff from behind the bar. A large presence of "Not my problem" type attitude was witnessed from these staff members. Our executive room was situated over the top of the entrance and thus we did not sleep peacefully due to a constant noise of front entrance doors opening and closing. Further to note the only method of cooling in this heatwave was a meager desk fan. We would recommend a larger fan or multiple be supplied for such a room size. Other than the above the hotel and gardens are lovely places to be. We would not likely return unless the above is considered or addressed.

We had a great time at the welcombe despite some difficulties that were eventually managed. However on return we are being bombarded by finance for desserts that were never ordered and apparently it's our fault for not telling reception we needed to pay for extras.

I wanted to write and thank everyone at The Welcombe for helping to make our daughter's wedding on Saturday 1st August such a magical and memorable occasion. The hotel provided the perfect setting for the day. The beautiful gardens were a stunning backdrop for the ceremony, and everything looked absolutely perfect. However, a beautiful venue is only part of what makes an event truly special, and it was your staff who made the real difference. From the moment we arrived on Friday until we checked out on Sunday, every member of the team was friendly, attentive, professional and genuinely caring. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and we felt looked after throughout our stay. The quality of the food was exceptional. From the canapés and sandwiches served during the afternoon to the outstanding BBQ in the evening, everything was beautifully presented and thoroughly enjoyed by our guests. Please pass on our sincere thanks to everyone involved. Your hard work, attention to detail and warm hospitality helped create memories that our family and friends will cherish for years to come. Thank you once again for making such an important day so incredibly special.

The hotel is set in beautiful grounds. I am not a golfer but I imagine it would be a good choice if you like golf, the course looked good (although scorched sadly from the extreme weather recently, no fault of the hotel!). The hotel itself is a lovely historic manor house, although maybe the decor in the room was a little dated compared to modern hotels, I didn't mind that, our stay was still comfortable. We had the bed and breakfast package. The breakfast was good. I'm not a meat eater but there was stuff for me to enjoy. Our room was a family room so lovely and spacious with an updated bathroom. Despite the recent hot weather, the room was a good temperature at night. They did provide a fan but we didn't use it as having the window open was sufficient. We had our evening meal there and it was delicious, the waiting staff was very courteous and it felt like nothing would be too much trouble. One of the reasons we chose this hotel was the spa and pool facilities. Again, perhaps not the most modern, that didn't matter as these were lovely. Jacuzzi, outside jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and a pool. It was a very relaxing experience. Ultimately, it was comfortable, clean, and a very relaxing experience overall.

Initial impressions were poor with a used medical plaster being found in the bowl of tea/coffee sachets and one of the lights over the bed not working. The order system used by the waiters at dinner time appears to be defective with my bowl of olives being brought only after the main course was served and we asked where the olives had got to. My wife was served vanilla ice cream instead of the strawberry ice cream that she ordered. My wife did not appreciate being shouted at in the dining room with the accusation that she was trying to leave without paying for the drinks. The drinks bill should be included in the residual bill paid when checking out. Cleaning of the room was desultory with the bin under the desk emptied, but the bin in the bathroom left full and untouched. The picture on the tv kept breaking up. On the second day, I found what appeared to be smears of blood on the tiles of the bathroom wall behind the towel rail which was rather revolting. This is not a standard of service that we would expect for the price paid. I get the feeling that this hotel is heading towards insolvency.

On first glance..fabulous. great grounds and helpful staff. Lovely big room which made it easy to overlook a few small faults. Spa great. On leaving the room, and stripping the bed we were horrified. The mattress has never seen a protector and seemed to be grade 2 listing with the building.

It is in a great location and the staff are friendly and helpful. My bedroom was small and the light in the bedroom didn't work. The hairdryer was also broken. My friend's bed was uncomfortable and had a spring sticking out of the top of the mattress. The meal took an hour to arrive on the first evening but arrived more quickly on the second evening.

Overall, the hotel felt tired and did not offer good value for the price we paid. The location is convenient, the park is lovely, and it's ideally situated for visiting Stratford, which are definite positives. Unfortunately, the room was expensive considering what was on offer. Older properties can be full of character, but they still need to be well maintained. The carpets were noticeably worn, paint was peeling from the walls, there were visible signs of previous water damage on the ceiling, and the windows could not be opened for fresh air. Outside, the garden appeared neglected, and the tables were not wiped down before guests used them. The dining experience was also disappointing. Our food took nearly an hour to arrive, which is particularly difficult when you're travelling with a hungry ten-year-old. Overall, while the location has a lot going for it, the standard of maintenance and service simply didn't justify the price. Unfortunately, we wouldn't return, as the value for money just isn't there.

In general we really enjoyed our stay at this rather 'faded' and quirky hotel. The breakfast was very generous. The spa was fantastic. Very easy to use and not crowded. A good sized pool and two smaller spa pools. The staff were friendly and attentive. The grounds are lovely. The bed was very comfortable. The evening dinner in the restaurant wasn't great. We had an air-conditioning unit directly outside our bedroom window which on reflection I should have asked them to move us as it was very noisy. The duvet ( not the cover) was soiled ( probably clean, but stained) which I feel should have been ejected before I was able to make comment on it. However, this hotel has enough charm about it to make we want to stay again.

A stunning hotel, in a brilliant location, with staff who couldn't do enough for you. Brilliant for those with gluten and dairy allergies (breakfast had a separate table of Gluten Free/Dairy free alternatives. Will be back

We had a stay at the welcombe in Nov 2024, and I had an amazing massage by a fabulous lady called Sally. So for Christmas 2025, my husband bought me a spa day here again. The day was good: facilities etc are all good, staff lovely, and afternoon tea fine, but the star of the show is the massage and facial by Sally again. Absolutely fabulous. I had no idea I was so tense until she started working on my back. And I've not felt so relaxed for ages! Sally you have a real gift. Thank you.

Extremely impressive building, great grounds and a grand drive up to the hotel, through the beautiful golf course. Parking by the entrance was easy and the car park seemed fairly safe and lots of spaces. I had paid for an upgrade to garden view but clearly the room wasn't available. I was given Room 115 which overlooked a huge flat roof with great views in the distance. The room was fairly spacious but incredibly hot (luckily they had provided a fan but beware, no air con). Bathroom was spacious but the shower was over a bath which was slippy as hell and on 2 occasions my life flashed before my eyes. There is a sign and a mat but even with the mat in there it still is a little dangerous (high step out of the bath etc). Bed was spacious and comfortable. No Fridge provided which was a real pain, Basic kettle and tea/coffee facilities. Windows were huge so room was bright and they opened which was nice. Breakfast was good, free range eggs which is a massive thumbs up, plenty of selection and good value given the price. Breakfast room was large and very grand, service was good although I had no idea until the last day that you could order a coffee, i thought it was filter only!! Staff were all really nice, ordering an Uber was easy to get into town. The gardens here are lovely and the golf course was actually very good, I played a round although was disappointed that there was no discount from standard pricing for hotel guests (£40 per person plus £40 for a buggie) Overall we had a great 4 nights stay here and would definitely come back, it was very good value and apart from a few things (View from room, no fridge, slippy bath/shower) it was all really excellent.

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. It was a surprise 70th birthday treat from friends and all 6 of us stayed. We were all looked after so well and I was made to feel so special by the extra mile many of the staff went to. We had super accommodation , the food was wonderful and the setting perfect. It wasn't a sleek and perfect place but the history and faded elegance shone through supported by such great staff. We will be back. Thank you so much.

Have visited a few times now but this last visit was exceptional. Our upgraded rooms were beyond what we could have imagined and made the trip I had gifted my parents on their 60th wedding anniversary even more special. I had promised them a room that I had enjoyed a few times and assumed close to the best in the hotel but clearly not! The staff were as friendly and approachable as ever and we enjoyed a good breakfast. If you enjoy historic houses, pretty parterre gardens, country views, friendly staff, a nice swim and steam and a sense of grand, this is the place. Stratford and many NT houses are not far away at all so it makes a lovely base for your break. Looking forward to another visit already!

Well didnt want to leave this review but the hotel have given us no choice. Travelled from Canada to a friends surprise party. When we checked in for the night the front desk didnt ask for a credit card which we found quite odd. As we went to our room we noticed how run down it was, the paint was coming away from the walls, windows wouldnt close (it was raining). Cold room, water would not go down the bath tub, spa area was dirty, gym was awful nothing to wipe down the machines after a work out. Day of check out went to pay....oh your room has been paid for. Oh maybe a surprise from our friend. Days pass no one admits to paying for the room. Head home weeks later to find a message from our friend saying his disabled sister had been charged for our room and hers. Front desk had done this ! We had tried to pay. Then discussions start from the hotel and us. Hotels fault not ours. We dont enjoy threats after it was your mistake.

Had a very relaxing Spa break at the Welcombe hotel this weekend. We had our lunch on the bar terrace in the sunshine and dinner in the restaurant, food was amazing and Lyndon made a pretty top notch Espresso martini! Spa was very chilled and no time pressures which is sometimes the case in other local hotels. Friends had massages and I had the facial we were all very chilled and beautified afterwards. Special mentions to Ryan in the bar and Elisha who made sure we got our breakfast. Room could have done with a fan (it was a hot weekend) and the spa an outdoor bar area but other than that a very strong 9/10.

awful hotel. loud thumping music until midnight - so dont expect a relaxing stay. cannot believe its a best western. definately avoid stopping at this hotel unless you are a vampire and are awake all night! Cant add photos but have videos of the noise levels.

The location of the hotel was good, however a couple of points would not make me come back again. Once we checked in, we weren't told information like breakfast times or if we wanted to book breakfast (or dinner), we weren't told where the restaurant was and there just seemed to be a general rush to get us checked in and gone. The breakfast was really poor, all was quite oily and the coffee tasted like dirty socks. The plates were also dirty, which put us off more.

An idyllic spot for a few nights stay, beautiful grounds, and a grand building. But the staff and service absolutely made the stay. Hard working, professional, friendly, approachable and thoughtful. Thank you so much.

My wife and I are regular guests at the Welcombe Hotel and have been for several years. This speaks for itself; our go-to hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon. Why, you may ask. First easy access from main roads and the M40, set in spacious and lovely grounds. You feel immediately you are in the countryside with many lovely views. Second, the range of bedrooms surpasses so many hotels and suits most needs; it always meets ours. The public rooms and restaurants are excellent, and outside seating above the Italianate gardens is wonderfully spacious and relaxing. Overlooking the well kept golf course attached to the hotel adds to the feel of the place. We love the fact that the hotel has made the decision to make features of many of the original fittings and coupled with many high ceiling rooms you get a sense of what a Victorian country house stay must have been like. As to food and service, the main restaurant is sumptuous and service attentive, informed and helpful. Special mention here for Claire, who is exceptional in understanding needs and ensuring get the best advice on the menu offer. The bar is excellent too, with a good range of drinks and a really excellent bar menu. Breakfasts at the Welcombe are something special with a wide range of hot items and equally tempting cold items - and such as croissants and Danish pastries. Front of house is always welcoming, friendly and helpful. Special mention here of Bilal on reception who knows the rooms so well and is so caring when new guests to the hotel need that extra bit of guidance on arrival. The house keeping staff are excellent too and they do such a thorough job in preparing and refreshing rooms. The car park is ample and the ground and adjoining land great to walk and relax in. There is a spa with treatments too and this is a great feature for those that like those kinds of facilities. When we visit the Welcombe we immediately relax into our stay knowing that we will not be disappointed. And yes, I have already booked for us to stay again.

Nice large hotel lovely park and garden

A very lovely mini break. We stayed in Isabella's room and it was perfect. Very very clean and decor of good standard and in keeping with the building. Staff are all wonderful and helpful with any queries. We had a bar meal which was very tasty. Also the spa is nice. Good sized pool and the outdoor spa pool is great. Will definitely be back

Having visited this hotel in the past, we were looking forward to spending a night here again. The location and initial ‘grandeur' of the place is stunning, however the standard has dropped considerably since our last visit. The interiors are shabby and staffing has evidently been reduced to a bare minimum. What had felt like a high quality hotel is now very ‘second rate'. On arrival, our booking was nowhere to be found. The receptionist was very pleasant and helpful and gave us an “upgrade” as a gesture of apology. However, if this room was an “upgrade” I would be very worried to see the cheaper ones!! The space was adequate and some effort had been made to freshen up some of the decoration but the formerly plush curtains had most definitely seen better days and were ripped and tatty (I have added a picture). The area outside the window had obviously not been cleaned for ages and was littered with cereal packets and plastic bottles. There were insects in the mugs left out for tea/coffee which was off putting to say the least! Lack of finesse in the dining room was also disappointing (no tablecloths at dinner or breakfast). The food at dinner was good, but breakfast was extremely poor (my grapefruit and orange segments tasted like they had been soaked in chlorine!) One of the waitresses dropped a knife which unfortunately fell down the back of a fellow diner ….. there wasn't even an acknowledgment or apology!! I sincerely hope that this hotel will be able to be refurbished and returned to its former quality. We will not be returning until it has done so.

I booked three rooms under a "golf break" package, only to find out the golf fees weren't actually included in the price. Because of this misleading advertising, I called the front desk the very next day to cancel. This was well within their "free cancellation" policy, and the staff member verbally confirmed it was cancelled. Despite this, they still charged my credit card £507. To make matters worse, their booking system is completely broken—I never received a single email or text confirming the initial booking or the cancellation. I have been trying to get my money back for weeks. I've called three separate times and have sent multiple emails as instructed by their staff, but they are completely ignoring me. I am now being forced to file a chargeback dispute with my bank. Do not trust this hotel with your credit card details. They will take your money and disappear. I will gladly update or remove this review if management finally decides to step up, do the right thing, and process my refund.

My friend and I visited for a spa evening and whilst attention to detail is needed in some areas and improvements need to be made, the reason I've given five stars is purely based on the service we received from Chay. He is a real asset to the place and really made our visit!

Stayed one night enroute home. Lovely building and with golf club next door. Which was amazing. Hubby looked up price £25-£40 a round. Really cheap. Might go back for a game Restaurant really nice. Three courses and two bottles wine for 6 worked out £50 pp. downsides if any really. Ed paid deluxe executive rooms. Two couples had a room overlooking flat roof and no view. The other couple got a far better room with great views. I recommend asking for room with a view Spa was ok. Two pools. One indoor and big then hit outside small jet pool. Steam and sauna All in price

Stopped in apartment. Mostly good apart from faulty light switches and lack of opening windows. Very spacious and breakfast was very good , plenty of choice but improvement to cooking of sausages would further improve it. Driveway to apartments need urgent attention due to pot holes. Lovely gardens and would return at the right price

First visit here. We were a little worried as we had read a few negative reviews. Our experience was excellent from reception to our room The Countess Suite to the restaurant food and staff. Yes it's a little tired in places but that doesn't distract from the beautiful building and location, We did have a swim and I can understand that if you wanted a spa day there were a few bits that were not working and that would be a negative.

On paper, this should have been a nice hotel set in beautiful surroundings just outside the centre of Stratford. However, it was really quite disappointing. The rooms were very tired looking and in a desperate need of a re-vamp, or a fresh coat of paint at the very least. The room itself was spacious although finding a dried bogie on the wall of the bathroom was pretty disgusting. Another of our party found that the shower wouldn't drain properly due to hair clogging up the plughole. Mixed reviews about the staff, a good proportion of whom were unfriendly and looked unhappy to be there. There were some nice spaces / rooms in the hotel lobby to chill out although waiting 1.5 hours for a pizza from the bar after they lost our order was very poor. Another of our party woke up early around 5-6am to take the dog for a walk to find the security guard fast asleep at the front desk. The spa, specifically the women's changing room the most disgusting changing area I have ever seen. There was surface water covering the floor of the whole changing room which was mixed in with mud from peoples shoes and dead hair. The laundry for used towels was overflowing and there were used towels on the floors and benches. There was not a cleaner in site. I am not sure how a changing room can be allowed to look so unhygienic. We booked a time and a table for breakfast as we were a large group, as advised when we checked in. However, that was pointless as when we arrived at our allocated time, no table had been reserved and the staff had scrabble together to get a table sorted. Overall, this hotel needs some major work.

Nice hotel. Very busy on Friday night but managed to get a table in the bar and had pizza. Team look like they know what they are doing and are well drilled. Breakfast really was fab. So well done to the hotel manager for having a great team. Room was old but have no complaints on cleanliness and the furniture. Had great character. Health club was brilliant. Nice pool. Sauna. Steam. And outside area was all good.

Just above average in my view. Hotel grounds are lovely but the hotel is very dated and clearly areas that need some maintenance and tidying up. Hotel room was clean. Check in too ages bearing mind they had 3 staff members and we had a booking number. Plenty of staff at breakfast but like another review there were breakfast items being replenished when it didn't need it and also other items never replaced at all. Bar only ever seemed to have 1 member of staff so too time. All in all a good 2 nights stay for the price but needs a bit of work and whilst busy needs the management to review some practices.

I contacted the hotel the day before my arrival as I had two double rooms booked. Unfortunately, my mum became unwell and couldn't attend, so I needed the booking amended as my eldest child needed to stay with me instead. I was told this would be marked as urgent and someone would call me back, but I never received a response. On arrival, I was checked into a ground floor room (I believe room 014) and advised that a fold-up bed would be added, which was fine. However, the condition of the room was completely unacceptable. It was one of the most unhygienic rooms I've ever stayed in — there were stains all over the carpet, marks on the walls, and the net curtains were dirty, black at the bottom, and even ripped. For £138 per night, this is simply not acceptable. I returned to reception to complain. The staff member didn't even need to see the photos I had taken, which suggests this is a known issue. I was then shown another room (010), which again had stained carpets. I asked if the room was dog-friendly and was told that it was. The smell and stains strongly suggested urine, so I requested a room where pets were not allowed. I was then moved to room 364. While slightly better, it was still far from clean. The room was very small for three people, there were moths present, hairs on the mattress, and underneath the bed was filthy. Door frames and general areas clearly hadn't been cleaned properly. This lack of cleanliness was consistent throughout the hotel — tables were dusty, chairs were stained, and communal areas were poorly maintained. Despite seeing several cleaners, none appeared to be addressing these issues. Breakfast was equally disappointing. The buffet was poorly managed, with items not being replenished. There were no fried or scrambled eggs available, and although staff said more was coming, it never arrived. I was not the only guest complaining — for a paid breakfast, I expected a full and properly stocked service. The spa facilities were also underwhelming, with several features not working, making it feel like a waste. Overall, this was a very disappointing stay. The hotel fell far below expected standards in cleanliness, service, and facilities. I would not return.

Lovely location, great staff! The walk into town and back again was set against the river which made it pleasant. Food in the restaurant was delicious. Thank you for making our stay so good.

The grounds of this hotel are stunning. There is a beautiful formal garden and a monument to walk to. On arrival it feels very grand. There is a nice drive in along a private drive. It's about a 40 mins walk into Stratford itself or a few minutes drive. The main building is an historic hall where the late queen once visited. The hotel staff welcomed me on arrival. We later learned we could have upgraded our room for £20 but this was not highlighted by reception staff. We might of done this if we'd known, especially as we pointed out we were celebrating but this was not acknowledged in anyway and we didn't notice the sign. Better customer service would have been to acknowledge the fact we were celebrating and to draw attention to the offer of upgrades for such occasions. The hotel has the potential to be stunning but the interior has a tired feeling and is in need of some fresh decoration. It's a very historic and grand building so it could be really nice indeed. I'd rate it more 3 star than four with the potential to be five. That said we had a great one night stay. The room was clean and comfortable. The heating was warm when outside it got quite chilly. There was a great selection of teas and coffees in the room. This definitely a plus for me, with fruit and mint tea plus coffee bags-very good. The towels could have been better. The bed was comfortable and we had a lovely view over the garden. The breakfast was delicious. However, I would recommend them purchasing a coffee machine upgrade rather than flasks of filter coffee, which was not good coffee. There was plenty of hot and cold options on the buffet. The spa was good. The facilities in the spa were nice. There was an outside jacuzzi, an indoor pool with hot tub, sauna and steam room. The foot spas were out of use. Again it was a little tired in places and my top tip is to bring a lock for the changing rooms. We weren't informed we needed one but the reception guy kindly lent one to us. There was drinking water available in the spa. All in all I would stay again.

Built for a Manchester Cotton Magnate, this place reeks history - a lovely drive up from the main road and suddenly "wow" - didn't expect it to be quite so impressive (it helps that the weather was glorious). Great reception staff. A lovely bar overlooking the italian terrace/garden and a stunning view that goes right across to Warwick. Our room (007) was spacious and comfortable with a huge en-suite (Bath and separate shower). We established base camp at the round table in the bay window of the bar and had a great afternoon with our friends and their dog (doggie treats available at reception). Staff throughout our visit were lovely and welcoming. We had dinner in the restaurant - well presented and tasty. We went towards the end of the breakfast service but still more than enough food and very good. We really enjoyed our stay.

Very old and that gives a love.y ambience . ., however very dated . Need massive overhaul that I feel would cost millions . Staff were lovely and very helpful but the decor is in desperate need . Old metal windows, drafts and worn carpets in room and corridors . Breakfast in a lovely old room worn but fittings and carpets and furniture all very tatty not just old . Food quality was great and staff very helpful. Cigarette butts at front door . Ugh ! However the swimming pool was a proper health hazard . It was filthy . Plasters on bottom of pool , dirty toilets and the floor was soaking . I slipped a couple of times signs of hair all over . I would close it down if I was an inspector and I am a regular member of my own local gym . Most adults used the jacuzzi and even that had evidence of needing a clean .

Lovely hidden away hotel with beautiful grounds and walks, and dog friendly. Staff all attentive and friendly and the pool on the spar was a bonus. The only thing that could be better is to have a light at the entrance on the road. At night it is easy to miss the turning.

Have been going here for a spa break with friends for the last 10 years staying in an apartment on site . The staff are lovely and work hard and we're doing their best . however this is our worst experience and the owners really need to get on top of maintenance and care SPA The jacuzzi was out of order the three days we stayed ( no signage ) All of the foot spas did NOT work. One of the spa experience rooms was shut . The locker room was appalling and no locks available The toilets in the changing room were broken and messy . Overall very unkempt There were no loungers round the pool and one of the four heated beds didn't heat up So if you want a lovely spa experience do not book this spa . APARTMENTs We stayed in 402 Self catering apartment No knives and limited serving crockery. The kettle sos not turn of when boiled , the curtains were dirty and the blinds kept getting stuck one of the windows was stuck open , the dining chairs very worn appreciate that the place is old and.characterful but basic TLC and more staff would help

Stayed here 41 years ago for the first time. Enjoyed it then and enjoyed it now. A lovely grand building to stay in. Have seen that a few people mention a worn carpet or a drafty window but I think that adds to the feel of such a lovely building. More than happy with our stay and with the staff who were very friendly and efficient. Can't wait to go back.

Fabulous place to relax and unwind. The massage and facial with Sally were amazing and I felt refreshed and relaxed. The staff were attentive and kind and the facilities were fantastic would highly recommend!

This is a great hotel but may not be for you if you are expecting modernity and 4*+ perfection. It is a vast period building and does therefore need some acceptance that things such as heating systems will not be the most modern and you may not have modern windows or furnishings. Furnishings are generally good and fit the period profile of the building. The room sizes are fabulous and have a luxury feel. The bathrooms are modern and very well presented. The staff are accommodating and very helpful. The Spa, gym and swimming pool are fabulous and are well worth a visit. They really helped make the whole stay an absolutely fabulous one. Highly recommended and very reasonably priced given the location and facilities. We will definitely be coming back here. Would also make for the perfect wedding party / party venue.

Just a few minutes from Stratford centre this quiet, elegant hotel with beautiful garden and far reaching views is perfectly situated for exploring the area. Executive rooms were spacious and nicely furnished, clean and comfy and very warm. The staff in both the hotel and spa were super helpful and friendly, really enjoyed the excellent customer service. I would recommend a book light as all rooms are dimly lit, which is very romantic but does make reading the menus a little tricky! Good choice on the restaurant menu and I can recommend the belly pork. Limited choice in the bar and took a while for food to arrive even though there were only 7 people eating, however it was hot and plenty of it, I had the chicken tikka which was quite nice. Overall, we had a most relaxing and pleasant stay in beautiful surroundings with lovely staff and would very much hope to revisit.

Have just returned from a four night stay with my boyfriend for a new years retreat before we return to the London grind and had a wonderful time! Our room was upgraded to a lovely suite, which we appreciate so much. We stayed in room 136 and it was gorgeous, a large king size bed with a separate dressing room and large bathroom with shower/ huge tub and his and hers sinks. We required a fold out bed to be made, just as my partner suffers from a back condition which they happily accommodated. The room was peaceful and we slept well every night. The grounds that the hotel are on are stunning and we went for a few walks also to see the monument. The food was delicious and as we were there on the breakfast and dinner special, we had two courses to enjoy each evening. I highly recommend the Thai green curry and sticky toffee pudding! Breakfast was great too, with a big selection of hot and cold food to choose from. We made good use of the spa as well, but found this could do with a bit more care to match the standard of the hotel. The jacuzzi and foot spas weren't working, parts of the changing room were quite grubby and we had to leave the pool area for nearly an hour one day as they hosted a water aerobics class. But we still enjoyed it, and the outdoor pool was good fun! A shout out to the staff who were incredible (although some of the younger staff could do with a bit more training on etiquette as standing around talking loudly and not paying attention to guests isn't great) but honestly, I really couldn't fault it otherwise as nearly everyone we encountered was so welcoming, friendly and couldn't do enough for us! We really loved talking to the manager - Simark - apologies of spelled incorrectly - but he was so friendly and always cheerful to talk to! We will absolutely return to the welcombe hotel and our week there was really special at a time we really needed an escape. Thank you to the amazing staff for making that happen!

We stayed for two nights between Christmas and New Year and had a wonderful stay. Check in is quite late - 4pm - so I booked a facial at the spa to while away the time until we could get into our room. Hubby stayed in the bar and had lunch. Fantastic facial - really relaxing and the spa setting - from what I could see - was really nice looking. Initially there was a bit of a mix up with our room - we went into the first room only to find that there were 2 single beds so we headed up to reception to ask them to make it into a double. We went out to the car to get our suitcase and then returned to the room. Within those 10 or so minutes, another couple had been given the room and had unpacked their items and our key wouldn't work in the door. Everyone saw the funny side of it and as the other couple had unpacked, we headed back to reception to get a new room. Luckily we did as the first room definitely wasn't the one we had booked....it was nice but we had upgraded for our stay. Room 135 (Thomas Warde Room) is the bedroom directly above the hotel front entrance and it is HUGE. As you enter the room, you are in a lobby area, then you walk into the bedroom which is seriously big. You also have a separate dressing room which also leads you into the large bathroom with both a walk in shower and separate bath, double sink and loo. As it was the christmas period, the lit up reindeer and christmas tree directly outside the bedroom window was actually really nice. The bed was comfy and we had no noise at all apart from a few odd slams of the entrance door downstairs...it didn't bother us though. Breakfast in the morning was good. We are vegans and so had to order vegan sausages with the waiter. They weren't great and we only had them once. There was lots of choice of breakfast food - hot and cold. One thing in particular that we really liked was the 'free from' island which had lots of gluten free cereal, milks. bread and spreads. Really nice to see this and I've never seen it in any other hotel so well done The Welcombe for thinking of it. The bar area was really nice to sit in at the end of the day. Good choice of drinks available and we actually found them cheaper than some of the places we went to in Stratford. All in all, a nice relaxing and pleasant stay. We'd come back for sure.

Started off 5 finished 1. Arrive at the grounds they're lovely , the hotel is self is very old but feels looked after. The spa was very nice , clean and staff seemed decent. We have a 7 months old , so we came back to our room around 8pm to settle her for bed , we noticed the voice of what sounded like 3 foreign men in the room above. It seemed they were probably drinking. We waited until about 9.30 and sent a email to reception asking ‘what time is it irresponsible to be loud?'. I didn't get an answer so after about 30 mins at 10pm I called reception to ask someone to speak to them just to ask them to lower their voices . 20 mins later , nothing . Probably louder than before , 20 mins later called again . Said someone was going to speak to them . 20 mins later , still loud probably more drunk and even louder. So I called again . To be told . They're just talking , we're not going to knock and ask them to be quiet . Very passive aggressively. It's not even later , it's heavily disrupted our sleep , ruined our whole experience. I've got 3 recordings of them tell shouting at the top of their voices . In my opinion , cheap hotel , cheap staff attitude. Good enough for people to get drunk in their rooms in a ‘spa' hotel . And the staff couldn't give a …

Unlikely we would stay again. It just didn't meet expectations. Room ok (119) very big as marketed as a Lady Caroline Suite 🤣. Constant noise from extraction fan system so avoid if you're a light sleeper. No little extras which you come to expect from a hotel that markets itself in this bracket, eg no bottles of water, thin basic quilt. Size of room over substance! Bed comfy enough but pillows atrocious and small. No housekeeping - just a bag with fresh towels and tea, milk sachets, biscuits left outside your door. Steps up to this room so avoid if mobility issues and your up in the ‘attic' so feel out of it a bit. Food we had was good. Self service so hot breakfast more like luke warm under heaters. Had the New Year Eve meal. Food was good, but very rushed - literally as soon as one course over the next was there. No asking if you wanted a drink - just offered still, sparkling or tap water. If you want a glass of wine you have to be proactive and flag down someone or join the large queue at the bar think it was to encourage a quick turnaround. No where to sit after to have an after dinner drink either - people had been rammed in. Meal wasn't actually what we had pre-ordered (at hotels request) but we ate it anyway as we liked it and it was good if somewhat small portion. Spa good, nice pool. Individual pods out of order but very nice. Did close at 3pm (when reception had told us 8pm). Staff in hotel are very nice. Would I stay again - probably not. Stunning location and great areas to walk outside, very dog friendly, but relies on this outside appearance, inside the offering other than big rooms just doesn't match compared to other hotels I've stayed in for same price.

The hotel is a typically historic almost Tudor like building, set in independent grounds Including a golf course, and spa. The Christmas decorations were classy and not over the top..The wood panelling and low lighting felt warm and comforting. We upgraded to a garden view room which was overlooking the Italian gardens ..worth it if you are there during hours of light say summer. Wayne and his staff couldn't do more despite having to work Christmas Eve, Christmas day and boxing day etc. Buffet breakfast was clean and plentiful Highly recommend

Visiting friends locally, we decided to overnight in this hotel . A very imposing building made all the more welcoming by being well heated throughout. Our room - just a standard - was a very good size with a beautiful view across the gardens. The bathroom sported lashings of hot water , good pressure, adequate shelving for our toiletries and a noteworthy efficient flush and refill! The bedroom was particularly pleasing with a large "dressing table" and plenty of drawer space. Staff were pleasant and breakfast was very acceptable in a very grand room . Negatives - v. minor. The rooms are a little tired in decor , ie the bath having been refinished rather badly, The sink taps were separate, not mixer and as the water was lovely and hot, this meant running a basin of water to wash hands safely. The wardrobe would be rather small if staying more than a couple of nights. No safe in the room or mini fridge. Despite these small irritations we would be very pleased to return next time and felt the hotel offered good value for money. Date of experience: December 2025

This could be a great hotel but it is tired and there is no attention to the detail you would expect from a 'premier' collection hotel. Tired decor, poor quality afternoon tea and a lack of care in the spa, despite the lovely staff. It was an 18th birthday celebration which should have been a lot more special, especially given the cost of the stay!

Great hotel, service, rooms and breakfast.. a real listed character hotel that is very special, our room was super!!! And as long as you can afford it.. STAY!!!

Had a fantastic full body today with Sally. She is very knowledgeable and was able to adapt the massage to work on some problem areas

It is a sign of a good hotel when something is not quite right and they respond positively and quickly preferably with an improvement. Our "query" (not complaint) about our original room was dealt with in exactly this way and we were instantly upgraded to a lovely suite with four poster bed. Solutions like this are not always available obviously, when the hotel is full etc. but we were fortunate and the response was instant. This is a fabulous old building with beautiful gardens, which we overlooked at breakfast. Breakfast was buffet style but had good quality items like proper pastries, decent jams etc. I asked for a couple of poached eggs and they were absolutely perfectly cooked. The spa is also very good with a nice pool, steam rooms, sauna, gym and small open topped jet pool/jacuzzi. Sadly I didn't get to use the Golf Course as it was not within our time planning but it looked good. A very nice visit and one that will inspire us to return.

Our second visit to this gorgeous historic hotel and a lot has improved, The shabby furniture has been reupholstered and the furniture moved around to make cosy seating areas. Despite this being a repeat visit we were still wowed by the imposing exterior which is very much 5 star. Interior not quite up to 5 star standard but almost there, so will definitely be back to see what else has changed. Beds comfortable, nice towels and bedding, ok products. Staff lovely, remember them here last time we visited so must be a nice place to work. Unfortunately there was a burst water main on day 2 of our visit, but despite there being no water in the rooms the staff were amazing and even offered to relocate us to another hotel which we declined. Superb location next to open space and lovely walks through fields into Stratford on Avon. Very much a place to return to and surprisingly affordable considering its grand exterior. Lots of parking places. Will definitely come back

There are hotels that you can't wait to go back to ,and this is one of them. This was the second time we stayed at the Welcombe. This hotel ticks absolutely all the boxes, a beautiful setting with beautiful gardens, lovely walk to Stratford upon Avon, excellent and friendly service, gorgeous food in the restaurant,and as for our room it was spacious with a wonderful view; the bathroom was immaculate with a bath and a shower. We were only there for a couple of days this time, and we can't wait to come back. I definitely recommend this beautiful hotel, you won't be disappointed

Amazing place, so beautiful . Stayed for the meal/ spa/ brekki deal. For that money you get wine in room/ dinner/ use facilities and lovely breakfast . Pool and sauna lovely . Ahmed in restaurant and his staff very professional and hard working - I watched him work endlessly all night . All staff were excellent . Room was just lovely - Room 003. Gardens worth a look even in the rain . Considering its size the whole place was also very warm. To those who slate it for the odd carpet rip or rattling window - it's an old building and the deal we had was amazing . We are very lucky to get to stay in such a place when the world is in such a mess and people are suffering , quit whinging ! All in all was an amazing deal and we thoroughly enjoyed and thanks to all the staff for making it unforgettable .

We stayed here for a friends wedding, and it was a beautiful venue! The room was clean and a decent size. Bed was really comfy! Had everything we needed. Breakfast was also really tasty!

We've had a lovely weekend in this beautiful hotel. The facilities are excellent! Golf, Spa, food, drinks and the first class friendly service from all staff made it a special weekend. Great location for a stroll into Stratford along the river. We were made to feel so welcome. The rooms are spacious have stunning views of the garden and countryside. We'll look forward to returning one day.

Beautiful hotel, very warm, cozy and peaceful. We had a beautiful room, clean and spacious, some lovely extra touches. The spa was amazing, very clean and tidy. All the staff were friendly, helpful and cheerful. The hotel is walking distance to town, we got a Uber back £15. We did the ghost walk around Stratford which was brilliant. It's as if someone ripped out a page of a fairy tale book and brought it to life. The place, is astonishing , the drive to the hotel, amazing, beautiful in all kinds of weather. My fiancee and I have been enjoying coming round to this splendid hotel for the past 4 years. It is worth every penny , I always book us the wonderful Countess suite , as it is so beautiful , fell in love with it from the first moment we saw it online. Breakfast, is delightful especially after a night out and you need that extra help to stop the hangover. They've got everything for you. From continental breakfast to cooked breakfast. Dinner is beautiful there aswell especially with the view that you get. Quite exquisite if I do say so myself. Parking aswell, is brilliant as you don't pay for parking. They've got a spa and a gym if I remember right, we didn't have a chance to check that side out of the hotel this time but we did two years ago, beautiful and peaceful, exquisite views and just such an astonishing area to have the hotel in. Team, all of you , especially the housekeepers, THANK YOU , you're doing such an amazing job and I do hope you get that extra love and thanks from everyone ! Keep up the great work !

Nice enough but lacking with staff training and frosty management. I had the audacity to ask if we could have our coffee order as it had still not arrived and my husband overheard the manager say to the kitchen that we were complaining! We were not complaining just asking nicely if we could have our coffee order!!! First night the service was very slow at dinner and we waited 45 mins for our starter. Nice executive suite with great views but disappointed that our shower was a shower over the bath. Nice and handy for Stratford upon Avon and some areas were a bit tired. All in all a good hotel with just a few tweaks required.

Really beautiful hotel. A great location near Stratford town centre. All the staff were attentive - Reception staff were very helpful and restuarant staff were great and happy to help with my requests. I booked this hotel hoping to use the spa facilities, but unfortunately didn't get a chance - hopefully next time!

This is a beautiful location in a historic mansion. Easy 20min walk from Stratford town centre. Gardens are beautiful and the rooms are clean. The house is lovely. We would have given a higher rating but for a few issues. Firstly our room had not been cleaned and the bed slept on. We were quickly moved to a new room and given a free drinks voucher. In the restaurant we were served the wrong starter. Staff were apologetic and let us keep the starter. We had someone else's drink put on our bill. Again this was quickly rectified. The majority of the staff came across as unhappy and fed up. The staff in the Spa were particularly stern and we felt a nuisance not a paying customer. It felt that they were perhaps short staffed and struggling to cope. This all said we would stay here again.

Great location, lovely staff, a little old fashioned but not a bad thing Dinner was really good and reasonably priced. Swimming poo very nice and not crowded We have stayed here a number of times and will stay again.

Old World slightly ‘collapsed' feel hotel but full of character and charm. Business function. Great sized rooms, break out rooms close by, huge terrace doors right off the main function room. Stunning views over the valley. Bar was snug, good pub style food in evenings, with excellent breakfasts, catered meals for large group also very pleasant. Room was a good size if a bit dated in decor. Lovely views over the formal gardens, not overlooked. Nice staff, helpful. Housekeeping invisible but did an excellent job each day. We all wanted to stay here again!

I was disappointed with several aspects of my recent visit. The steam room was out of order and we weren't advised beforehand which we were particularly looking forward to. The water refill stations were regularly empty, and the foot spas were also not working. While there were plenty of chairs available, there were only four loungers, which were always occupied, making it difficult to properly relax. The ladies changing rooms were also not very clean, which was disappointing for a spa setting. On a more positive note, the gym facilities were good and well equipped, and the afternoon tea was lovely. The full body scrub was very good. However, the massages were a letdown. My friend and I booked the same treatment but had very different experiences. We weren't asked about our preferred pressure, and the massage itself was extremely gentle and didn't feel particularly effective. It was a shame, as we were really looking forward to a relaxing and special day for our milestone birthdays. With a few improvements, the spa has the potential to offer a much better experience overall.

Lovely period building, totally let down by poor and inefficient services and staff. Shower flooded floor, reception could not grasp simple English when reporting. As a result reported problems were not dealt with until escalating to management. Even then the maintenance man was given wrong instructions. Very loud noisy parties in middle of night (2,3,4am) with no staff to find to deal with it. Breakfast buffet ran out every day (3 days) and came out in dribs and drabs, so there was rarely a full buffet of all items available at the same time. Periods with no staff in sight to ask, then suddenly lots of staff appear running around like headless chickens. Large wedding party on one day/night, making it impossible to get served at the fairly mall single bar with just two bar staff. Ordered wine with meal, it didn't arrive and chased then but when it did arrive, after had finished starters, an incorrect bottle was provided. Wont be staying here again.

Visited for a family wedding,very impressive as you drive up,the grounds are beautiful, our had been recently refurbed and was very nice,very clean spacious and had everything you needed,bed was very comfy. all the staff we spoke to were great and friendly. food was very good at the wedding and the breakfast. not the cheapest but would definitley stay again.

Overall a very nice stay, room was clean and comfortable but the bed was a little firm. The food was great and the spa was lovely. Staff were very nice and helpful.

Spa few days away. On arrival , spa not working , hadn't been open for 3 days. Why not inform people before arriving , as whole idea of staying here is to use spa facilities. Lots of people complaining on arrival. Receptionist unhelpful, and uninterested , didn't give directions to restaurant , breakfast times etc. We had to drive to another hotel to use the spa . Not ideal. Room , twin , well might as well been a double as beds next to each other , no gap in between. Needs updating , not big. Bathroom really old, nowhere to hang towels ,and shower rail all rusty . Evening meal was good , but took 45 mins to get our drinks and another 30 mins to get out starters . Found staff short and abrupt . Spa working the next day , but very busy and considering it had been closed for 4 days , areas needed a good clean. Steam has broken tiles where you sit . I would say whole place needs an update , looks uncared for . Staff need to put a smile on and more training in their roles . Only two people friendly and really helpful were duty manager Claire and next day Muts. Wouldn't visit again.

We had an excellent experience on a charity golf day. The team were so helpful and really polite to talk to. Particularly special thank you to Eleanor Scannell for her hospitality, as well as Sam, Ollie, Sam and Luke. Eleanor was super attentive and made sure our experience was incredible.

Such an amazing welcome to the hotel and Sarah at reception went that extra mile to make sure I had a great stay! I will definitely come again and next time bring my dogs too!

Upon arrival the building was very impressive. The grounds were immaculate and there were plenty of car parking spaces. Check in went very smoothly and we were lucky that our room was ready ahead of check in time. We were directed to our room which was up the main staircase. Fortunately we were fit enough to carry our luggage as there was no one to assist. We did notice others struggling later in the stay and we offered to help. Our room was huge and well appointed whilst being spotlessly clean. The furniture does need replacing and is unfit for purpose. There was a notice asking us to forgive the appearance of the furniture but at the rate charged for an executive room we felt that it fell below our expectations. The bathroom was lovely and beautifully tiled. We had lunch in the bar which was very good and dinner in the evenings which was excellent The waiting staff we encountered were extremely pleasant but it was clear that there were too few staff to service the number of guests. This resulted in long waiting times which was not their fault but we suspected some guests were not as patient as us! Food at the buffet breakfast was good but staff did not replenish items and had to be asked repeatedly for tea and coffee. The installation of a drinks machine would alleviate this issue. We particularly booked this hotel to use the leisure centre but the pool and wet areas were out of service. Not very satisfactory. The staff working at this hotel were doing their utmost but were expected to multi task in areas where evidently they had received little or no training. Despite this they remained cheerful and polite with customers. A matter for management to resolve by supporting them more effectively. A spotless hotel needing some renovation Overall a pleasant stay in an historic hotel in an excellent location.

We visited after last being here 10 years ago, and were excited to go back and see how it was. The hotel itself looks grand , and a great place to stay. The communal areas are good, the grounds are good , and the staff are very helpful and pleasant. It does appear that they are understaffed. In the bedroom, there is no fridge and no safe. The Spa is generally ok, but the gym is in need of a refresh in some areas eg. On the lat machine, the thigh bolster kept sliding off when setting up the machine. In the restaurant, they were very slow bringing starter ( about 45 minutes) , the main dish was luke warm , and the side dishes did not appear until several minutes later. By which time , the main was even colder. It was taken away, but the other main remained, so we ate separately- you can guess what the sides were like, hot for one, lukewarm for the other ! The staff tried to rectify the situation with a compensatory drink - one beer, one cappuccino. Beer came at the same time as desert. However, the Cappuccino had to be asked for again ( about 35 minutes later!). Would have thought that a bit more attentive following the main dish debacle !? The coffee finally arrived , and it was lukewarm ! Really !! Overall, we were sat at table for almost 3 hours which is not where we would have chosen to spend such a significant part of the evening. The inside of the Hotel was tired, with threadbare carpets. The room was described as “executive “, but it was simply a bit larger. The furniture was also tired , with a stained carpet. Would I return ? Never !

Mohammad was especially helpful in showing us exactly how to walk to town through the woods. The spa facilities were amazing and relaxing.

We had an amazing stay at The Welcombe, booked with Groupon and was worth the cost. Hotel is dated in some places but it is exceptionally clean and the staff cannot do enough for you. The grounds and views are stunning and it is only a short drive away from Stratford upon Avon town. Spa facilities are really good, the pool is an excellent size. The vitality pool was lovely. Partner used the gym which was adequate for the length of stay. Tried food from the restaurant & bar, both equally enjoyable and breakfast had choice for buffet style breakfast.

Loved this stay. Every member of staff was friendly and helpful, the dinner was excellent and the room comfortable and well equipped. The gentleman in charge of breakfast, Muts was particularly helpful rescuing me when I set fire to the toast (entirely my fault) and even preparing a freshly brewed coffee to my companions high specification! All delivered with a smile.

Lovely hotel, with stunning grounds, only stayed for one night before moving one. All staff we welcoming and helpful, especially Muts, who looked after the dinner hall for breakfast

If you accept this hotel is old with faults but also with historic charm the stay is enjoyable Walkable into Stratford and quiet as away from the main road The rooms and decor vary in standard the old part of the hotel and rooms being furnished with standalone old pieces of furniture The garden leading to the golf course is beautiful and the surrounding parkland very special Check the website for both the spa and restaurant as neither were correct for our stay

It's a solid 4 out of 10 for many reasons. Pros: Stunning ceiling architecture and ornate details. The gardens are beautiful (albeit they need a new hedge cutter) staff were all pleasant The spa was fantastic and a really nice bonus Negatives: The hotel could definitely do with a bit of money being spent bringing it up to standards. Things are edging on tatty which is never ideal. The food and drinks prices are extortionate for what you get and unfortunately the restaurant experience wasn't the best. We would still come again though as overall we did enjoy it.

Lovely old building with lots of beautiful features. Bearing this in mind, old buildings come with a few niggles. Conversations with other guests mirrored our views that it's in need of an upgrade. Our room (130) was very small, but the bathroom was a good size but was obviously planned when people were no taller than 5ft, as the shower head was halfway up the wall and only managed to wet my shoulders at best, and the sink was about 3ft off the floor! No window blind in the bathroom although the glass was opaque. The sink took an age to drain and the toilet needed to be flushed twice to get rid of anything at all. The bathroom door didn't stay closed or lock very easily. I had to use the teaspoon to prise the plug up and drain the bath as the mechanism didn't work. No personal safe or fridge in the room. Buffet breakfast was okay and seemed to be replenished fairly quickly from my experience although there was a slight wait for certain cooked items. Dinner menu over our stay remained the same every evening with very little choice. If you're vegetarian then I hope you like risotto. Bar prices are through the roof as with the majority of hotels. A pint and a large glass of red wine was just over £18. I stayed here over 10 years ago. Would I stay again? No, unless I hear the rooms (especially bathrooms) have been refurnished.

My third stay and the best yet! I thought the previous room to be comfortable and nice but this one was exceptional. Breakfast is well organised and the variety of items on offer is very good indeed with attentive staff quietly keeping things topped up and tables cleared. The spa area is clean and offers many activity options. I have not yet tried the gym but it looks good. I'm now very fond of this old house and am trying to sort out when I can fit in my next visit! There's so much to do in the area too. All staff were great from the warm welcome from Sarah at reception to spa and dining. My favourite short break hotel!

Stately Home feel, with visions of bygone grandeur. Pretty grounds and lovely views. Executive Double room tired and wallpaper peeling in bathroom. So a quality Food & Beverage service badly needed but sorely missed. Waiters all young and poorly trained, with little to no attention to detail. More like herded sheep. Didn't know which wines by the glass available, didn't know what "greens" accompanied the main meal I ordered, couldn't even explain which cheeses were on the cheeseboard. No offers to refill drinks. Tables left pile high on terrace with dirty plates and glasses. Restaurant manager running about like a mad person to try to air some semblance of efficiency. Very sad. Would I go back? Like many have said, the faded grandeur not enough to excuse the luck lustre and amateurish levels of F&B service. A real shame.

We spent our Wedding Anniversary at The Welcombe. Stunning hotel. The staff were fantastic and could not help enough with any queries we had. We were given the most fantastic room overlooking the Italian styled garden. The pool and spa area were very good and not overcrowded. Although the restaurant did not have a massive menu the quality of food was very good. We will definitely be returning for another visit.

Beautiful hotel with the most wonderful staff who go over and above to ensure you get the best stay in this peaceful and perfect setting just outside Stratford upon Avon. All of the staff do their utmost to make everything excellent, from reception to management. Muts - the breakfast manager - is so efficient, kind and competent and nothing is too much trouble. A busy man, but he always has time for his customers and works tirelessly.

We booked a one nights stay (Sunday) at the hotel that included breakfast, a two course evening meal (note you don't get to pick from the main menu) and 2 rounds of golf. The course itself is fine, very challenging, elevated greens, lots of blind spots (perhaps could do with a few more bells, definitely one on the 3rd. Warning signage needed on the 12th as balls fly down the very steep hill, as those teeing off can't see the fairway or green. It not hard to be near the green with your drive. Sunday our tea time was at 12.30 and we were 25 mins late going off. There was no one in the starters hut managing players going out. The first tee is not visible to the Pro Shop so anyone can turn up free of charge and jump on the first tee. There is absolutely checking on players by anyone and having stood there for nearly an hour, no one will convince me otherwise. It took our experienced group of 4 players, 6 hours 30 to play 18 holes. A chap from the pro shop came out on a buggy as there had been complaints. He told us that he spoke to the slow players. We saw no improvement in the pace of play. We had one group try to jump off a hole 3 onto our tee, the 12th tee, as they had 3 groups of 4 players waiting on the 4th hole. Got to the halfway house at 4pm, it was just closing. Completely understand but when it's 29 degrees, blazing sun and you've now got no water left, someone should have took over or bought water round for everyone. We saw four groups walk in after 9 holes. Day Two Monday went off at 9.40 - 5 hours 15. Another dreadfully slow round due to slow play ahead of us. Again, no management of who was on the first tee. Perhaps we were just unlucky, personally I just think they let anyone “play”there is simply no management it's all about revenue. The Hotel Our room was fine, we had a suite. Room 102. The living area had the sofa made up to a bed. There is no bedside light or waste bin, both are needed. Toiletries, shower gel, conditioner etc. There are tea/coffee making facilities but no fridge. As some other reviewers have said the rooms are tired but this was not an issue for us only staying one night. Our room was clean and had all we needed Evening meal - pre ordered on arrival. Portions were small and the mains not hot. There was a wedding taking place on the Sunday, the music was playing loudly until 23.30, then the noise from the guests leaving. So our windows had to stay closed. Breakfast was the usual offer and fine, again though food just not very hot. Due to finishing golf so late on the Sunday, we never got to use the Spa facilities. The upside is how nice the staff were and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is impressive to look at with fabulous views. Would I go back or recommend this venue……..I don't think so. Had I not been part of a group booking and not wanting to offend to person who booked everything on our behalf, I definitely would have complained and expected to get most of my money back.

Attended with Golf Society and stayed at The Welcombe. The course was very challenging, especially being hot and ball can run a mile with a putter off the tee. The Welcombe hotel is very nice, we had dinner hosted by Ahmed, very engaging, organized and provided us with halal / vegan options. Thank you and will definitely visit again!

Ahmed the waiter was brilliant. Really looked after us. He managed the food really well despite some confusion with some orders. Everyone was really happy.

The positives: The hotel is situated in a lovely location, with a stunning and picturesque garden backdrop. You can feel the history of hotel and see the character of a by gone era. The quality of the food served was very nice, and the staff delivered good customer service, where required. I had a lovely large room, with a comfy bed. A quiet venue, to enjoy the spa, rest and relaxation The negatives: This hotel is 3 star at best when it comes to facilities. There are no lifts throughout the hotel, which was not explained at booking. Coupled with no obvious porterage service (only 1 lady at the reception desk), this would make it very difficult for anyone with a disability, limited mobility issues or simply being able to lug your suitcases up multiple stairs and stairwells. I arrived at 6:30 pm for a 1 night stay and was disappointed to hear that you had to book a table in advance for dinner, so no availability. For the size of the venue, a larger restaurant would surely be advisable or inform guests at booking? (You could order food from the bar and eat there, which we did) However, the worst feedback was the standard of the housekeeping. There was no air conditioning, and a wonky standing fan was provided. The sash windows were filthy, in and out, with cobwebs, dead flies and bugs (in and out), which was very off putting. The bathroom fixtures and fittings severely need replacing eg a leaky shower head, no sink mixer taps (this is basic), cracked grouting etc. Also, the TV was positioned in front of the only mirror in the bedroom - weird! With some attention given to the above points, the hotel could be so much better.

Hesitant to book after reading some reviews but the room was fine. It was clean and large with a decent shower- plenty of hot water and power. Staff were very nice. The spa was a nice addition and we loved the outdoor jacuzzi pool. Lovely gardens and nature reserve walks on the doorstep of you wanted a walk. The hotel was a bit dated and tired in places and the food was decent ( not rosette type standard) so we felt the DBB deal was good value. We would be more than happy to return and felt it would be good for a group . Easy access 5 min drive to Stratford upon Avon which was our reason for visiting. Lovely old building in a beautiful area.

The trip was for our wedding anniversary, it didn't augur well when nobody mentioned this on check in or leave a note in our room, despite being asked was there a special occasion when I booked the stay. The room itself was disappointing and was conspicuous by the absence of things I would have taken for granted at a room costing £300 per night. No minibar, no fridge, no safe. These should all be a "given" in such an expensive room. I was recently away at the Holiday Inn in a much cheaper room and all of these things were provided as a matter of course. When I used the gym, the equipment was very old and outdated and badly needed investment. The belt on one of the treadmills was slipping and dangerous. i notified a staff member of this, but while I was there nobody even put an out of order sign on the machine. I hope that nobody hurt themselves on it later. At dinner, I had prepaid one evening's dinner. However I was flabbergasted to be told that the cost of the standard 3 course menu was £34.95, but we could only take £20 worth of credit if we wished to choose from the a la carte menu. This was not a cheap stay, it was £600 for 2 nights and to hear this just come across as a complete rip off. I have stayed in many hotels around the world for business and leisure and in general, you get what you pay for. However, the reverse happened here. I paid £600 for 2 nights and feel completely cheated. The room was more at a £100 a night standard, the absence of such basic items in our room stinks of cheap and nasty. I have worked in the hospitality at the high end and believe me, this hotel would get nowhere with a Forbes inspection. Overall, I was extremely disappointed and feel cheated at what we got for our money. Won't be returning.

My wife and I stopped in the Suzanna Suite and we loved it. We both thought the food was excellent. You can go on a number of walks up and over Welcombe Hills directly from the car park with great views. The room was huge, the fitness area and pool are good, the gardens were looking great especially with it being summer. The young lad manning the fitness desk really needs to understand he is a vital point of contact and must smile and be far more customer focussed. I digress, our room over looked the garden and golf course. For the money, we thought it was just about right. You will see this hotel has some mixed reviews and I can see why, it needs some finesse and some investment but these are NOT normal times and businesses are prioritising finances. A couple that ate next to us complained their wait for food was excessive. This was categorically a lie. We both ordered at the same time and were served within 20 minutes. Following morning they were complaining at check-out to get their bill reduced and then walked outside and got in hers and hers brand new Mercedes. So, take some of the lower score reviews on here with caution. With some investment this would be a £500/night hotel for their premium rooms.

We have just returned from 3 day break at this hotel. It was excellent value and in a great position for Stratford-Upon Avon which was well worth visiting. 30 minutes walk across the fields to the road into Stratford. Food quality at the hotel was very good and nothing whatsoever to complain about with the varied meals we had. .Breakfast was very good too with a Gluten Free table, bread , cereals, spreads , ect and a separate toaster. Some have commented on the dated furniture, carpets ect but this is so often the case in a period property such as old, historic manor house and just adds to the character. Our late queen visited back in the 80s. The gardens were beautiful looking on to the golf course attached. I was a bit concerned with the online pictures, as it looked as though there was only a shower without an overhead spray too, but it was absolutely fine . My photos will explain what I mean. We would definitely return and next time I think my husband will be bringing his golf clubs.!!

Went with a bunch of guys for a golf trip of 3 nights and four days. Hotel facilites were good, the spa area is amazing and well worth a visit. Claire in the dining room couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The hotel could benefit from an additional bar, as a function was held on Friday and a wedding on Saturday, which made the one small bar very busy. The two young lads behind the bar were brilliant, which is more than can be said for Roger, who was rude and dismissive on more than one occasion to several members of our party. Roger apart, the rest of the staff were brilliant and we enjoyed our break.

We had a wonderful time here, enjoying the quiet of the countryside and and ambience of the hotel. The beds, though, were out of this world. Most comfortable bed I've slept in. Very accessible to Warwick and Stratford and just a pleasure to hang out at.

What a gem of a hotel, we really loved our stay and also the spa. Everything was very clean and staff welcoming and helpful. A really great breakfast in the morning too, my girlfriend was really happy with the hotel and we had a really lovely short stay. A really nice location too.

Was upgraded on arrival to a 4 poster suite. Room was spacious bathroom fantastic don't think I have ever had such a comfortable bed. The evening meal was of an extremely high standard befitting a hotel of this standard. Staff were very helpful and courteous. The view from our room overlooked the gardens which was a joy to look down onto. I would recommend this hotel to anyone without a second thought. The only downside to our stay was that we had only booked for 1 day next time it will be for a full weekend. Thank you for an excellent stay William & Linda

I was so impressed with this hotel and spa, everything was spot on! Hotel grounds - beautiful kept with nature walks and golf Hotel reception - staff welcoming, friendly and helpful. Room - wonderfully large with a huge bathroom! The decor was modern and it was clean with a amazingly comfortable bed. Restaurant - food was delicious, good size and the staff were professional, attentive and friendly. THE SPA - AMAZING!!! didn't want to leave. There is plenty of space and different facilities to use but the outside thermapool is by far the best part of the hotel!!! I cannot wait to return!!!!

Really lovely room, good food and lovely staff. The decor does feel a little dated. The entrance areas and corridors could use a bit of updating and the parking restrictions seem a little stern and unwelcoming.
