"If you have a bargepole use it to keep the correct distance from this excuse for a hotel."
Woeful would be an understatement. It was like a visit to Fawlty Towers without the humour. They simply didn't care when we arrived, they didn't care whilst we were there and even when we pointed out how much they didn't care, they didn't care enough to even find out why we said they didn't care, didn't bother to respond or check or reflect as to why we had such a woeful stay and then didn't have the courtesy to even care about why they didn't care. I think it would be fair to say our experience was that it was a place where they don't care with the staff being led by the woefully inadequate excuse for management that will give you the sort of experience that makes you write a review like this. Be prepared to be disappointed!!
"Fabulous!"
We booked the Library for Sunday lunch to celebrate my Mum and Dads 65th Wedding anniversary yesterday. This place is amazing, absolutely beautiful and full of history. I cannot thank the friendly and helpful staff enough for making our afternoon a fabulous occasion they are so professional and nothing is too much trouble. The food was gorgeous and the room was just perfect. Special thanks to Marius, Daniel and the waitress who served us ( so sorry didn't get her name). We will definately be returning and I would highly recommend a visit.
"SPECIAL OCCASION - DON'T STAY"
We booked a one night stay to celebrate my 60th Birthday and booked directly with the hotel the State Room ( Bridal suite) informing them it was a special occasion. We arrived and had a bar snack in the afternoon which was lovely while we were waiting for check in. On check in there was no recognition that it was a special occasion even though my husband had paid £250 for the night Our room I must say was lovely. Paying for the most expensive room in the hotel we did expect more than one complimentary tea / coffee but what did surprise us was not even a bottle of water in the room. We arrived to eat in the restaurant dressed up for my special day and were asked would you like the bar menu or restaurant menu? which disappointed us, surely you would eat a bar meal in the lounge bar. Still no one asked or acknowledged my birthday. The next morning breakfast was appalling you would expect a pot of coffee or tea but no they poured you half a cup ( like being abroad) only asked if we wanted toast after asking people that came in after us, when the breakfast came the scrambled egg looked like they had swept it up off the floor. At checkout we complained to reception. on seeing the photos of what we had been served and saying we could not believe my Birthday had not even been acknowledged she asked us to complain by email to be passed to manager. Receptionist was very understanding and by the time we arrived home she had the cost of the breakfast refunded. This has definitely been a Birthday to remember for all the wrong reasons. Should have never booked here. If you are thinking of staying here for anything special DON'T.
"Never been to anything better"
Staff spot on the waiter at breakfast was very friendly and the banter very good and brought sausages for our little dog nothing too much trouble if we were getting married again this could be the only place well done the whole team our special place
"Unforgettable, wonderful "
What to say about this hotel… it is a very special place indeed, steeped in history. Welcoming warm, classy… it is a little akin to stepping into Downtown Abbey in terms of the professionalism and courtesy of the staff. The grounds are stunning… it is extremely welcoming of dogs … even giving our friends dog a plate with treats for breakfast. Marius the receptionist is the consummate professional but also just delightful. We stayed with children and a dog… and felt totally comfortable. Wonderful stay we are already looking at when we can visit again.
"No room waiting for us… disgusting hotel and disgusting service"
We booked 3 rooms months ago and was looking forward to all sleeping over together away from home after shopping in Birmingham and Christmas markets. We arrived early and was advised we were unable to check in for another hour which we completely understood and said that we will be checking in late as we are going to go shopping and for lunch with the children. When we returned instead of 3 rooms they only had 1 even though we booked and PAID for 3 well in advance earlier this year. The manager would not speak to us and said there was nothing he could do as he is fully booked apart from 1 room which he would be charging us for- we showed our booking confirmation and payment confirmation and still said he had no rooms for us and then said because he only kept us one room he moved it to the smallest in the hotel. We all went int the room to charge our phone last we had 3 children with us who were crying and distraught thinking we were stranded. The room of what we saw it was dingy small dirty and dark. We charged our phones and drove 3 hours home full of disappointment. The manager did not help us and now we are in the process of claiming our money back. Absolutely disgusting place - I've read other reviews with a similar experience. DO NOT BOOK HERE - much nicer hotels and service in the area.
"Very poor customer service"
Unfortunately this review is not about the venue, which is lovely but about the lack of contact from the duty manager Marius who was unavailable when l tried to contact him four times after a not so good Christmas Party Night. I booked this evening as a Thank You to three lovely friends who have given me such amazing support during an horrendous year. Due to me falling on the day which resulted in a fractured wrist so l couldn't attend. On enquiring the next day about their experience l was upset and embarrassed about the feedback. After emailing Sophie who handled the booking she informed me l needed to speak to Marius the duty manager. I have rung four times and he is never available, so left my telephone number for him to contact me. To date no contact. As an ex business owner working in the area, who has previously booked the venue successfully, l am disappointed. This does not give a good impression for the business. Surely the job of duty manager is to look after your customers.
"Fantastic Christmas Stay"
This hotel never fails, excellent room superb dinner and breakfast but best of all are the staff having to work during a very busy Christmas period everyone of them were cheerful and most helpful cannot wait to return this hotel is a real gem
"Superior room with a view - brilliant stay"
Stayed here overnight in December as part of a deal on a booking website. What can I say but Wow ! The hotel is really beautiful set in amazing grounds and full of history. Our room was a superior double with a view of the side lawn. It was well appointed warm, clean and tidy. Reception was very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Really could not fault our stay.
"No room!!"
So we arrived at our hotel approx 1pm following a 2.5 hour drive. We were told we couldn't check in as the room wasn't ready! No problem we left our cars and got a taxi into Birmingham were we spent a wonderful day at the Christmas market and shopping. Tired out we headed back to the hotel via taxi again. When we arrived to check in we were told we had no rooms booked?!?! We had confirmation of 3 rooms for 6 of us via email and the money had been taken, but for what ever reason they had cancelled 2 of the rooms!! Absolutely disgusting! We had 3 children with us and had to find some where else to stay! Every where in the area was fully booked! We then had to drive home, in the dark and heavy rain after an already exhausting day! Arrived back home approx 10.30 pm full of sadness and disappointment! The manager on the desk could t have cared less either! Basically said it is what it is! I'm absolutely appalled!! Do not book this hotel!!
Account Manager , General Manager at Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Good Evening, Thank you for taking the time to send the above however, as you are well aware, and was proved to you several times during your visit, there was only one booking in our system under your name. Although we appreciate you had a long day and were looking forward to your visit, we cannot be held responsible for third party errors. Had we not have been full house, we would have been all too happy to provide another room for you via a direct booking rate. We apologies on behalf if the relevant third party and we would hope to see you again in our hotel for a more positive visit.
"Welcoming Hotel"
My partner and I stayed here for Halloween. Just one night. We are returning guests who booked the Devereaux suite this time. The room was very cosy and the bathroom very large. Wow was our reaction. The receptionist was pleasant and most welcoming. The house has so much history and it was like staying in a mansion. Our meal in the evening was good, as expected. Bar staff were also friendly. Negatives: Our room should have had bottled water supplied but didn't. The breakfast was OK, but not great. Overcooked. We have had better. This listed Manor house has so much to offer and well worth visiting and staying for the night.AF
"Excellent service for afternoon tea!"
Visited on a midweek afternoon with my mother for afternoon tea. From entering, we were made to feel very welcome. The room was warm and we were seated overlooking the gardens. The food was presented beautifully and the china crockery was lovely. All of this was made better by the wonderful waitress, who was very friendly and couldn't do enough for us - thank- you! Don't miss the beautiful gardens; we visited on a sunny November afternoon and the flowers were still in bloom.
"Lunch"
We were there for lunch and my wife ordered a steak, it so fatty it was inedible. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and that too was inedible, It was full of coleslaw & side of coleslaw, no salad. I couldn't eat it.

Apologies that your experience was not up to our normal high standard, we will review the menu and produce.
"The Best Afternoon Tea "
So myself and 9 of my friends went to this lovely historic hotel for a delayed afternoon tea,it should have taken place on Friday 9th September but due to Her Majesty passing away we postponed it and there was no issue with this,Lewis ,Marius & Sophie were very understanding and the celebration happened a couple of weeks later. Well it was absolutely perfect and I and my friends enjoyed three hours of pure indulgence at the hotel there were plenty of sandwiches Several varieties including cheese and pickle, tuna and cucumber, egg mayonnaise and ham with mustard. The variety of cakes was excellent as were the scones, clotted cream & jam and because there was so much food we ended up bringing some home with us in special boxes so that none of the cakes were damaged. The tea and coffee were supplied in abundance in many varieties including Earl Grey,Cammomile & Honey, regular and decaf tea and coffeeand the were refilled on several times. The service was excellent too and the food was enjoyed on fine bone plates, tea cups and saucers. A really big thankyou to everyone at the hotel for their warm welcome, wonderful service and everything else that made the occasion so perfect.

"Restaurant experience.Hall is beautiful yet food disappointing and expensive"
Hall beautiful but we was disappointed with food quality and was very expensive for what it was and the service wasn't brilliant ether we will not be returning We wondered why the restaurant was empty!
Account Manager , General Manager at Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel, responded to this review
That's a shame to read, we normally get amazing reviews and guests comment on how reasonable the prices are.
"It was like being on the set of Fawlty Towers #Simply Awful"
Rude, unrepentant, short staffed and just simply did not even care enough to apologise. From within seconds of checking in our heckles were raised by the rude receptionist who just doesn't seem to understand that she works in customer service and that hotel guests are not inconveniences to her day or evening. Just when we thought it couldn't get much worse we went breakfast and to say that there was a baying mob of unhappy and hungry guests would have been an understatement. I fully expected at any moment someone to lead a charge to the kitchen to make it ourselves. We get people don't turn up, we get things go wrong but how you deal with it is what most people remember and I will remember this list for a very long time.
Marius Radu, Guest Services / Front Office at Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback, it's a shame that you did not enjoy your stay when so many on the same day did and had an entirely different experience to yourself. We certainly were not short staffed at any point, but it is clear that breakfast did not go to plan like it does 99% of the time - please accept my apologies for the inconvenience of the morning. My staff are certainly not rude, unrepentant or of lack of care to apologies to guests if needed but it will require that the guest first off behave in a manner that is respectful to the team.
"5 Stars For Marius"
We held our recent conference here for my company. We hosted in the Malt house which was on the ground floor level. Nice room adequate for our needs. The building is beautiful and a lovely setting for weddings. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay as i was only really sleeping in my room. We however were entertaining clients and i have to feedback on there behalf also. The food was very poor and i have to say the breakfast was appalling. The hotel is a little tired in parts and needs a bit of TLC. However there is a true gent that works at the hotel called Marius, this guy is an absolute gem, who goes over and above to make sure everyone is happy. I feel sad to read that some people have criticized this lovely man. He literally runs this place single handed. The rest of the staff are a joke however. Marius was off on our final day and we had to go and ask for tea and coffee to be brought in at the designated time i had asked for a comfort break. So all in all my review is for Marius give this guy a pay rise he is the main man. If i go back to this hotel it would be to see his lovely smile and receive his wonderful welcome.

"Conference stay"
Visited this hotel for a conference we held in the Malt House room on the ground floor of the building and had a pleasant stay/successful conference - all thanks to the hotel's amazing Manager - Marius! Marius delivered an outstanding level of service and commitment to the hotel and made sure we were looked after, which was in fact a highlight of the stay. Marius worked so hard we could not believe it! The outside of the building is absolutely beautiful - especially the gardens plus parking was free & no problem. My bedroom was beautiful with lots of light and space, however; other guests in the party complained of the opposite issue of a dark, small room so this is slightly off - putting when you are entertaining customers here in case they get a bad room... The food I experienced was not good - from breakfast to dinner it was all not great and for such a lovely place this should be improved. The breakfast was particularly poor. Overall, a nice stay despite the food. Big thanks to the lovely Marius for all his help, hard work and dedication - from telling us the history of the building to setting our conference room up, serving drinks until we all left and being very efficient all round, he is a legend!

"Birthday treat"
Booked Castle Bromwich as a birthday treat for myself and children. It was close to Birmingham about 30 minutes drive if that. Staff were lovely, nothing was too much. They informed us about all the history of the building which my children loved. Beautiful place, lovely sized very clean rooms. Would recommend a stay

"An excellent venue for corporate events"
My company, Smartex Limited, needed a venue in or near Birmingham for a 2-day conference and exhibition for 125 delegates, including overnight accommodation and meals. We discovered the Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel, a classical country house situated a few miles outside central Birmingham, and convenient for the M6 and M42. It had a conference room large enough to accommodate over 120 delegates, and a large marquee which proved an ideal setting for our exhibitors and for refreshment breaks and networking. With over 40 bedrooms, a good number of our delegates were able to relax for both days without setting foot outside the several acres of handsome gardens. What really scored with us (and we've been doing this for nearly 30 years), was the service level and the quality of the food. We had dinner for 72 guests in the main restaurant, where the staff were polite, fast and extremely capable. The wine was reasonably priced and the three-course dinner was first class. An adjacent bar area stayed open until the last guests left at 3am. The whole experience was relaxed, efficient, friendly and of real quality. Highly recommended.

"The perfect hotel"
This is literally one of the best hotels I have stayed in. Stunning building and a welcoming reception area. The grounds are lovely to walk around as well. I was staying in one of the outbuildings. Room was spotless and well maintained. Comes with the usual tea and coffee making facilities, fan, iron and ironing board. The food is exceptional. I had the steak and prawn (surf and turf) and the steak was cooked to perfection. Cheese board was perfect, with the right mix of sweet and savoury. It was so good I had pudding as well, a really good brownie in filo pastry. The menu was well thought out and there is something for everyone. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff. They are all very friendly and professional. I would happily stay here again and I hope to be back again soon.

"Wedding reception"
We Recently held our wedding reception here and I can't fault it at all. The staff were fantastic especially Marius!! The venue is a beautiful place and the grounds are very well kept. The food was incredible (an afternoon tea and a hog roast). Staff were very friendly and got involved with us all. They went above and beyond to make sure our stays were good. I loved the state room and miss the beauty of it already. Many of our guests commented on how beautiful the place was. For anyone considering to hold their wedding or event here I would highly recommend. Thankyou for helping with our special Day you really did a fantastic job! The Gibson's.

"Disappointment"
I had planned on eating here tonight and I admit I was a little later than planned to arrive. A long busy day at work. I asked at reception if food was still being served as the website states 5 pm to 9 pm. I arrived at 8:50 pm. I was told that the kitchen has been carnage all night and that the chef has had a nightmare. Was asked what I might want and eventually told to go the the bar where I would be given a bar menu. At three minutes to 9 I asked at the bar and the girl went to check with the kitchen only to return with an answer that the man I spoke to at reception had shut it. I don't know if this person is new as I have not seen him before and have stayed here for sometime now on and off. I would have stayed and waited for him to return if it wasn't for the fact that I needed to change my plans and eat elsewhere. Why on earth would someone deliberately waste my time?
Account Manager , General Manager at Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Good Evening, I hope this email finds you well. Thank you for taking the time to send over the below feedback. Firstly, please allow us to apologies for any inconvenience caused during your visit to our hotel. It was certainly not our intention to waste your time however, clearly this has happened due to a breakdown in communication. The action to close the kitchen early is not taken lightly although in this situation, it was necessary. This is a rare occurrence across this industry and do not foresee any reason for a repeat in the future. With regard to the miscommunication, we have discussed the matter with our team to ensure this will not be the case in future. We apricate your custom and patience.
"Afternoon tea"
Attended for afternoon tea, a professional group of ladies. Short supply of sandwiches also bread dry as though had been left out. Not very quick in offering drinks we had to ask. Myself and a friend often go for afternoon tea at the Arden hotel, which may I add is half the price and the food and attention far superior. I had intended to compare with castle Bromwich hotel, however I would never book here again. The manager also appeared to be watching/monitoring us throughout our afternoon. I would not recommend this hotel.
Account Manager , General Manager at Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to review you recent visit however, we are surprised that it does not reflect our usual high standard of experience. We apologise that this was not the case for you and will take all your feedback on board to ensure an even better service in the future.
"Never, ever stay here. Beautiful main building but noisy, room was not in main building. Very noisy music all night"
Noisy, sleepless sauna nightmare. Had so looked forward to staying here so is a real shame. It looked so beautiful from photos. And it is on arrival. However, our room and indeed most rooms seem to be mainly in very unspecial 1970s outbuildings. It gets worse. Shower is a dribble when you can any water out at all. There was literally no hot water. Reception said would send someone to look at. No one came. I couldn't be bothered to re-ask. It gets worse. Room is very small and very hot (it was sunny and hot day in August) where no air conditioning. So window has to be open. Even without that, the music from wedding was non-stop and all night. Reception apologetic but advised nothing they could do since fully booked. The hotel warms can be noisy where events are on, but I had specially requested at time of booking a room as far away as possible since we had an early start where my son is competing in the National BMX Series. It gets worse. Had looked forward to a lovely full English breakfast which had paid for in room rate. Asked at check in what time breakfast served. Unfortunately not until 8am. 8am….this is crazy. So no breakfast on cards for us. Not great start to competing in National BMX series. Will travel up from Virginia Water with early start next time. Inevitably will have got a lot more sleep than will here. And would have got to eat breakfast. Would be a nightmare but that would mean sleep was involved. Genuinely advise you to stay at home and set off early to where you are going, or Premier Inn or anywhere in fact but here.
Account Manager , General Manager at Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest, we are a very popular destination, not only for use of the hotel but also as a wedding wedding - something that we make common knowledge as we do with many things by putting on our website. We do not advertise that we have air con in our rooms as we are a 400 year plus listed building, we do list breakfast times which start at 7am weekdays and 8 am weekends (like most hotels btw), We were not aware of any shower issues until you reported it then onsite our maintenance team resolved it straight away - not bad i'd say, So all in all after reviewing your review it seems had you been a bit more diligent the you would not have found yourself in this situation. Please dont blame the hotel for your mistakes - please look at the sheer number of positive review we get! TOP TIP to anyone ready this review, dont be like Moty1974 have a read through the hotels website before you book it and if you do make a mistake "own it"!
"A gem of a find…"
This was a last minute booking as needed to stay in Birmingham. The building and gardens are breathtaking…it's just oozes centuries of history. We enjoyed drinks in the garden and a lovely meal. Special thanks to the superb bar staff! We will return.

"No wi fi in annexe"
We stayed in 2 rooms in the Dovecote annexe for 6 nights for the Commonwealth Games. Rooms were good size and clean but we had no wi fi access because the signal was too weak from the main building. We reported this to 3 different members of staff but was only resolved on the last evening. Looking back through reviews this problem is not a new one, but hotel has obviously not invested in a booster for the annexes. Apart from that issue, a good stay, hotel well situated.
Marius Radu, Guest Services / Front Office at Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest, thank you for the review. Sorry that the WIFI failed to reach the annex (Dovecote) during the your stay, its great to read that the booster we bought worked. As you can imagine for a commercial property - when some like technical issues occur with WIFI it is not a quick fix like at home, hence the short wait for the resolve - I'm sure you understand. Happy to report all WIFI is working well throughout the property.
"Commonwealth games stay"
Excellent find in this stunning 17thC hotel, with most beautiful gardens to relax in. Our 2 rooms were both in the Brew house building adjacent to the main hotel. Lovely clean comfortable and quiet rooms even though the hotel was full . A perfect stay for our Commonwealth games visit to Birmingham.

"Drinks good but hotel scruffy around the edges"
We decided to go for walk and stopped for a drink at the hotel last weekend. Initially all was good with a nice seating area overlooking the hotel lawn - an ideal spot for a relaxing drink on a sunny afternoon. Service was efficient and easy. However the hotel was looking very scruffy around it's grounds - a dirty and tatty marque, rubbish tip in the car park and any spare outside area used as storage. Later we went for a walk at the hall gardens (separate to the hotel) and more piled up furniture and rubbish was stacked and very visible all along the boundary - not a great view for customers of the hall gardens. So overall very disappointed. This hotel could be very good but needs work to get there.

"Afternoon tea."
We were greeted by a very friendly receptionist upon our arrival, we were soon assisted by our very friendly and attentive waiter who showed us into the Garden Resturant. Our afternoon Tea and Coffee was served with a selection of delicious sandwiches and a choice of lovely cakes and scones. All in all we enjoyed the food and the impeccable service. The Hotel is a joy to behold as are the grounds. I would not hesitate Castle Bromwich hall hotel as a place to visit and enjoy the afternoon tea. "Afternoon tea and evening meal for a hen party"
Absolutely shocking service got there at the time stated we could go in room which we payed for it wasn't ready and when we did get in we had to to tidy it up bar service was Appalling because they had no staff at one point they had no glasses had to wait for the afternoon tea and the main meal was a complete shambles they forgot some orders some of the group actually left which I don't blame them we waited over an hour and half to speak to manger when he finally came to speak to us he admitted to our faces he chose not to come and speak to us absolutely fuming completely ruined the day
Account Manager , General Manager at Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest - Many thanks for your review - We are looking into this matter as a priority as sadly there were some of your party that really let themselves down with regards to the amount of alcohol consumed and then becoming very hostile to our waiting on staff (one of which was as waitress that is heavily pregnant) - pretty shameful behavior. Whilst we accept some ports of your stay did not go to plan it is beyond acceptable to treat anyone in this way. We will be in touch!
"Excellent allergy care"
As a coeliac I contacted the hotel before visiting to let them know of my food allergies. They assured me that they would be able to meet my needs. I was attending a function at the hotel as well as staying and they arranged for suitable food to be served there too. Once I arrived the staff were wonderful, arranging for me to meet the chef and ensuring that all of the food I was served was allergen free. The food at the function was fantastic and a number of the other guests were jealous…. It was clear that they took my condition seriously and we're trained to understand it, checking with me where necessary. Special thanks go to Lewis and Daniel, Mikaela and the reception staff for all their help.
Account Manager , General Manager at Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Hi Klaire R Thank you so much for your great 5/5 review, Allergen Awareness is a top priority for us. I will pass on your comments to the team. Many thanks again and hopefully see you again soon. Kind Regards
"What a lovely find"
We stayed here prior to an NEC event and what a find. It's not far from the NEC and so much nicer than staying in a bland/expensive hotel nearby. The hotel looks stunning, lots of history and has a large garden if you want to sit out with a drink and enjoy the sunshine or take a stroll. We had a lovely, comfortable twin room in the main hotel which was full of character with windows that actually opened (rare these days) and a modern bathroom with waterfall shower. We had a nice bar meal at night (pie & chips) and a great full breakfast. The staff were fab - a shout out to Sophie on Reception who was so helpful, Peter on breakfast duty and the girl in the bar who were super friendly and made our stay even nicer.

"Needs some improvement"
Main hotel is beautiful. Restaurant was good but poor selections for vegetarians. My room was in an annexe away from main hotel and was clean and comfortable, but WiFi from the hotel did not extend to the annexe. Potential problem on check in when the American express card I had used to reserve the room online was not accepted on site. Beautiful grounds were looking a little uncared for. Would I stay here again? Yes, but perhaps not at £100 a night

Dear Guest, many thanks for your review. Regarding the vegetarian meals, we are currently creating and testing our summer menu, I have communicated to our chef your thoughts on the vegetarian meals and we have taken note of this. The WIFI has never been an issue inn the past but we acknowledge this is critical for all guests and we are looking into this now - if possible please could you call the hotel and ask for Lewis as your room number would be helpful? 3rd Party Companies such as booking.com, hotels.com have there own policies on what types of debit or credit cards they accept. "Private 90th Birthday Party"
I booked the group room for a family celebration of my mother's 90th birthday for yesterday afternoon and can only say we had a magnificent time. The building itself was fit for royalty, not only those who have visited it over the past centuries but also 'queens' such as my mother. The room was perfectly laid out for our group of 16 and the staff were flexible enough to allow us early entry to add a few personal touches. There were no issues with my mother gaining access in her wheelchair from the front door to her place at the table. Though three of our guests unfortunately had to drop out that morning the reduced numbers were not a problem with the management. Regarding the food, most of our group had special dietary preferences that were happily and skilfully accommodated by the excellent chef who provided sufficient quantity and exceptional quality of food for our tastes at a very reasonable cost. Nobody was disappointed. Thank you so much. The group is till talking about the food, the service, the ambience of the building and and mother still talks about the day and the great gardens. The staff though young were always professional and exceptional and we were happy to see they enjoyed their serving as much as we enjoyed their service. I can say no give nothing but praise for our experiences provided for us on the day.

"Fathers Day"
My wife celebrated my special day by taking me to the restaurant for the Father's Day A'la Carte Menu, On arrival we were greeted by Lewis who promptly made us welcome and seated us at our table and explained in detail the menu.We made our selection and asked for the wine list which had an excellent variety. The white wine was brought to the table in an ice bucket and on trying it was at the perfect temperature and the food was the same..Well done Lewis first class service and excellent food we look forward to our next visit

"Stunning site with a few big issues and lots of little ones"
The site is stunning, as beautiful as the photos if not more so. It was a short drive from Resorts World where we were attending a conference, and we got a discount from booking directly with them. I can fully imagine why people would choose it as a wedding venue. Unfortunately there were just so many problems which need correcting. Big ones: -We booked a deluxe double, at a slightly increased charge. This specifies that you will get a room in the main house. We did not. We were not offered a partial refund or apology for this. The annex is lovely, but it's just not what we paid for. -At the restaurant, I asked whether we could get the chorizo and prawn pasta without the chorizo. We realise this was different from the menu but was happy to get something else if needed, as I am pescetarian. The dish just sounded delicious! My partner joked that this didn't just mean picking the meat out. The waiter said that was fine, and absolutely could be done. When the food arrived, he placed it down saying "The prawn pasta without the chorizo." Immediately we saw something which looked more like a large piece of chorizo, rather than a tomato. We decided to wait for the waiter to return and double check. That was the right decision, because he returned a few minutes later and said that there was chorizo in. I have never in 13 years of being pescetarian been served red or white meat in a professional setting. I asked for fish and chips instead. He said that we wouldn't pay for the incorrect pasta dish or the fish and chips. We were charged for the fish and chips on the bill. -We were thirsty in the evening after we returned to our room. Not wanting to travel outside into the main house, we decided to get a drink of water. There was one tap in the bathroom, without a sign saying it wasn't drinking water. There was also a kettle in the room, so we assumed it was drinking water. It tasted really very odd and not right. The next day, I got a tap water at breakfast, and also got a tap water at a restaurant just up the road. Both tasted normal. I can only assume from this that the water in our room was contaminated. Small things: -The path from the annex to the main house across the little lawn at the back had a hedge which was overgrown so you had to push through it to get through. -Our breakfast table had crumbs and jam on the tablecloth as we sat down. They didn't offer us another table or to swap the tablecloth. -We ordered sourdough and olives and oil. We didn't get sourdough, but other bread. The waiter at the end said, "Did you enjoy your sourdough?" We didn't really know how to respond as he had served us the non-sourdough. -In the morning we weren't really sure what to do at breakfast (e.g. which elements we were allowed to serve ourselves). The waiter said that he would make us toast. The bread went in the toaster and remained there until cold, at which point another guest, who presumably thought it was help yourself, took the toast. The waiter never brought me toast nor apologised for not bringing it so I self-served in the end. -There were small dark hairs on our bed when we arrived, one on the top of the bed, and one under the blanket on the sheets. -There was a lovely selection of shower gel and shampoo in the bathroom, but no soap for washing your hands. We assumed you used the shampoo in the end? -The waiter in the evening seemed a bit overwhelmed and undertrained. He was lovely, but left the dining room for long periods. At one point, a guest resorted to running after him (literally running) to try to order more drinks. -Someone who looked like a manager came into the restaurant in the morning during breakfast, and criticised guests within ear range of us eating breakfast, for what seemed like a minor infraction. This felt unprofessional. -A few guests were leaving ahead of us, and the same (manager?) was asking them how their stay was. One guest commented lightly that they didn't have biscuits in their room as promised with a jokey tone. The hotel staff member responded defensively in a situation which could have been smoothed over or joked about very easily. I realise I've listed a lot of things, and the second list is really small things you could forgive if there were just one or two of them. Even the top few would be absolutely fine if they were the only problem with the booking. But the combination of everything took what was meant to be a relaxing stay in a 4 star hotel to being less than that.

Dear Ruth Thank you for taking the time to review us at Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel. Clearly we did not deliver on our normal high standards and please accept my apologies for this. When we receive feedback that suggest a drop in standards I do use the review for training preposes with the departments to ensure that the mistakes are managed better in the future - this is certainly happening with yours. I would add is that the water throughout the property is all drinkable so we do not use signs to let people know that it is drinkable as this is the norm in the UK, also we as a commercial property have regular inspections on things like water, gas, electrics etc and we have no issues - water does tend to differ in taste from location to location due to the hardness of the water. I would ask that comments suggesting contamination is left to the professionals so that we are not victim of scaremongering based on conjecture. Lastly i do feel that some recompense is needed in this case with regards to the room and food costs - please call me on 0121 748 0030. Kind Regards Lewis Poole
"Serious food safety issues"
The stay was poor from start to finish - and was staying for a 30th birthday which was truly ruined. I'm coeliac and cooked weeks in advance with breakfast, informing the hotel of my dietary requirements and checking they could cater. On checking in the receptionist wasn't very friendly and was quite dismissive. Asked me to sign the usual check in paperwork, and I turned to the second page to check what it said and saw my allergens written down (great!). I triple checked and made sure to say I cannot eat from a buffet due to allergens which she said she'd let the kitchen know. In the morning after a terrible nights sleep due to disturbance from other hotel guests being rowdy we came down excited for breakfast. It was a bit of a weird set up with a good trolly and drinks opposite reception in the waiting room area. I mentioned again my food allergy to the waitresses and that I could eat from the buffet, would need it to come from the kitchen. Whilst they were speaking to the kitchen an older member of staff spoke to me took my room number and I explained the waitress had gone to the kitchen to sort out my breakfast, he said yes they knew about my allergen not to worry. Then some time later after being seated for a while the waitress brought out two vegetarian sausages, half a plate of mushrooms and a cooked tomato. I was really confused and asked why there were no beans or eggs etc which should be GF. They were very unsure about allergens and she said the chef had said these were the only GF vegetarian items. I asked if she could double check and she came back and said I could have eggs and beans and they would sort it out. I had become quite uncomfortable by this point as when you have a serious good allergy and the staff are giving you no confidence they understand basic food allergen safety which they're required to by law (to avoid killing and causing serious harm to people) I was wondering if I could trust what they had given me so far. It was a dry plate so I hadn't started luckily as was waiting for toaste eggs and beans, when she came back I asked if she could triple check the sausage and then a male member of staff came out and informed me that the sausages they had given me and told me were safe and GF (after I had explained I had a seriously good allergy 3 times - on booking, check-in and at breakfast) contained wheat and were not GF. I gave him the plate and said I can't eat that then, it's a good job I didn't start or the hotel would have sent me to hospital. He said ‘we didn't give you those, it's a self service buffet and you helper yourself'. The communication was horrendous and I had to go on and explain they had come straight from the chef who had said they were confirmed GF. He then backtracked and said they thought they were GF as they weren't labelled as containing gluten and only contained wheat!? I am truly horrified at the lack of food safety training at this hotel, that waiting and kitchen staff could not know wheat contained gluten and basic allergen safety. He spoke to me like I didn't understand and said wheat extract is GF and I had to explain BROWS to him. But my biggest concern is how many people is this hotel poisoning and that they could kill someone. Luckily I didn't eat the food, but what happens when someone's child, mother, husband, nan comes and goes into anaphylaxis because they didn't realise there were nuts in it? Where is their allergen booklet they're legally obliged to have? Where are the allergy labels on the buffet? Basic inconsideration too like all the fresh fruit in directly next to the toaster and in my room they put Gluten biscuits with teas and coffees, but these are minor and no issue compared to being given good and told it was GF which could have caused me to be seriously ill, and off work, in which case I would have sued them. As it is I'm on holiday for the week for my birthday but left feeling uneasy that if I don't report this to the local authority and the food standards agency they could kill someone and I can't have that on my conscience. I would appreciate management getting in touch via email to let me know how this happened, and how they will prevent it happening again. I would additionally add that I was made to feel like a nuisance for having allergies and then ignored/treated dismissively after receiving my refund for breakfast. Historically I've worked in a lot of hotels, so hate to leave bad feedback but it was so badly run and the staff were really rude. We also got hardly any sleep as there was a wedding and the guests we're running riot without reprimand. Again, I'm a fairly chilled person and my brother got married recently so I get having fun, but screaming, singing and shouting it rooms for hours around teatime and then again screaming in the corridors around 2pm. The first time I genuinely thought it was a Saturday night event downstairs and they were singing sweet Caroline full blast and it sounded like kareoke but eventually realised it was the room next door. We came down and spoke to someone who said they would inform reception. They at 2pm when it happened again I rang down and they were very blasé and said the first hadn't had a drink in 2 hours and were just saying their goodnights, it wasn't really acceptable at all. No one came up although they did say they would ideally we called again. They didn't luckily quiet down after around 30 minutes but continued talking loudly in the room. I didn't complain as in fairness you should be able to talk in your room and in that's they weren't doing anything wrong. The issue at that point was the walls between the rooms are wood not brick and have zero sound proofing. So sad as I simply couldn't recommend anything g buyer avoiding this hotel completely, but it has such potential. Beautiful room and grounds, just poor customer service, no knowledge of allergens, bad management and rooms have no sound proofing. The food thing simply isn't acceptable and isn't dangerous, they cater weddings, breakfasts, afternoons etc. This needs addressing urgently.

"Two lovely overnight stays."
We had a few nights in Oxford last week but we decided to stay overnight on the way there and back to split the journey. We came across this hidden gem. A beautiful building with lovely surrounding gardens. Our room was a separate one in the 'Brew House' building and we could park right outside, which was great! A very spacious and comfortable room and a bargain at the price. It was quiet at dinner, so we didn't need to book and the food and service was excellent, as was the breakfasts. The waiting staff couldn't do enough for us. All in all, two very pleasant overnight stays in a lovely place.

"Afternoon Tea"
Friend and I bought our Moms an afternoon tea voucher and arranged for them to go on a week day. Sandwiches were hard and dry, clotted cream was frozen and whilst the serving staff were very kind and tried to replace items it totally ruined the gift we had arranged. Manager didn't want to know and just handed the gift voucher back to them, they ended up elsewhere for food. We realise we all have bad days but to do nothing !!!
Account Manager , General Manager at Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Becky S Please accept my apologies for the drop in standards with the afternoon tea delivered. I will be discussing this matter with the kitchen team to see what went wrong, as you can see from our previous reviews our afternoon tea is very popular and although this is clearly a "one off" it should not happen. Thank you for your encouraging words regarding the teams efforts to remedy the situation and that the voucher was returned - effectively the manger offering a full refund. Kind Regard's
"Very Disappointing"
This hotel is very convenient for business travel due to its close proximity to one of our sites, I used to stay here a few years ago and stopped and I was reminded of my reasons when I stayed early April 2022. The shower pressure was poor and took over 10 minutes to properly rinse out shampoo let alone the conditioner! Evening service was good although some of the staff were more interested in staff chatter than customers requirements. Breakfast service where do I start....! when I arrived at the restaurant the waiter was not present he was however busy chatting to the receptionist and seemed in no hurry to deal with the customers waiting to enter the breakfast room. When he did tear himself away he showed me to a table that had not been cleared from a previous hotel guest. I selected an alternative table and I was told I could not sit at that table as it was set for dinner! (more than half of the dining table were laid out for lunch/dinner service its 7am!) The waiter took more than 15 minutes to return to my table to take my order and this was only after I had to request his attention. He did not write anything down which was evident with the fact as it was wrong! I waited over an hour after chasing updates 3 times and each time to be informed its on its way! once the wrong breakfast arrived I informed the waiter that I had requested no Black pudding and to my shock he removed said black pudding from my plate with his bare hand!!! throughout my entire wait I was only offer one cup of tea, which was probably a blessing as it was stewed! and the only updates i received were from me chasing up my breakfast! throughout this breakfast service I witnessed 3 other hotel guests leave without receiving there breakfast due to the length of time taking to either be acknowledge and take the order or for the food to arrive and the table behind me received a plate of scrambled eggs only which was ordered as full english with scrambled eggs!!! I WILL NOT be staying here again! regardless of how conveniently close it is to the workplace!

Dear Christine D, please accept my sincere apologies for the poor service received at breakfast and the low shower pressure. I would very much like to discuss the matter with you personally - please when you have time call the hotel and ask to speak to Lewis Poole

A bit old school when you enter reception but the rooms are quiet and quaint. Have stayed a few times and never been disappointed. Good access to motorway and local amenities. Beds are good quality and the towels soft in comparison to even the Crowne and Plaza

The reception was rude. The servers were children and rude. The manager (if you can call it that) was just a bitter weird man. Didnt even stay the night. I left for the belfry. I wish i read the reviews.
"management"
Absolutely disgusting, while staff got upset by management i had to wait to be served so as a table of 6 we left. We will not be back. Staff upset who seemed to do a good job in keeping customers happy.

"Only stay here if you are happy to sign all your human rights away! Owners sit at home watching you live on cctv"
I cannot believe what I have just witnessed, I'm currently staying at the hotel for a second time (for business within the local area, booked by my work place) below average 3 star, dirty room and near next to no staff to run the place. A young girl who is serving and running around like crazy because the lack of staff has came running out crying, literally tears rolling down her poor face. Obviously on seeing this I rudely listened into her conversation, the owners are sat at home watching CCTV of a family sat in the lounge (when on earth is this legal?!?!?) I shall be contacting the SIA tomorrow to speak to them with regards to this!!!! The waitress has been told off for allowing this family to sit in the hotel lounge, what sort of hotel refuses guests the right to sit in the lounge when other guests have the rights to? I have no idea why the owners are watching their staff and the customers on the cctv while they are at home but this seems very much against anyones human rights of privacy, when I checked into the room nothing was mentioned about giving my permission to be live streamed around the world while I go about my business unaware of being on camera. I will however be contacting my company and refusing to stay here again, seeing how this place is run, the quality of food (not even to the standards of a cheap pub cain) and now the fact my privacy is being violated! I did stop the waitress to ask if she was ok and ask what the issue was but she didn't give anything away, just said she had some bad news. Obviously their staff are more in fear of losing their jobs than being in a happy environment.

Dear Stay49366308811 Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay, sadly on this occasion its a disappointing read and clearly we did not maintain our high levels of customer care that we pride ourselves on. Regarding the incident with the member of the team, I have fully investigated this situation now and can confirm that this has now been resolved - I am not permitted to go into the details but I can say is that there was a lot more to this situation which thankfully the investigation aloud me to discover - resulting in the fair resolution. Regarding the CCTV I can confirm that we comply to all rules and regulations regarding how we monitor the hotel, its staff and its patrons. Any maintenance/H&S/cleanliness issues (like with all hotels falls under general hotel operations) we ask you to report such issues to the manager on duty who will promptly rectify this issues. I am happy to discuss this matter further should you wish to (still whilst conforming to GDPR) please call the hotel and ask for Lewis. Kind Regards
"Terrible service & rooms"
Stayed here on Tuesday the 6th of April for work and was extremely disappointed.... I booked superior double through their website and when I checked in I was put in the "dove coat" this is an outbuilding round the back and off to the side of the main building. (Which is also cheaper to stay in £89 per night compared to £109 that I was charged) When I asked about my room I was told they were fully booked and that's all they have... If the room had of been of decent standard this review would be very different... But.... The room was terrible... Firstly the heating was off so if felt like a fridge when I walked in. Next the wall light about the bed was hanging off the wall, 2 ceiling lights were hanging down aswell. Then I noticed the walls.... The paint had bubbled and was peeling and the walls had marks all over them... If this was a cheap hotel I could understand but.. this is supposed to be 4 stars.... I would definitely NOT recommend you stay here .. overpriced and you don't get what you pay for
Account Manager , General Manager at Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear cafolla87, I am disappointed to read your review - clearly something has gone very wrong resulting in you having to stay in a room that you did not choose. The dove coat is a stunning period building created around the same time as the main hotel and very popular with our regular guests, maintenance issues are reported to a dedicated team who successfully manage the entire estate - because of your comments I will review the reporting procedure and discuss the issues with the maintenance and the housekeeping team to ensure our high standards are maintained. Please accept my sincere apologise for the issues with change of room and the maintenance issues with the room. Please would you mind calling me (Lewis) at the hotel to discuss this matter further and I would also like to enquire into the compensation offered and the reduction of the room rate as its not mentioned in the review. Kind Regards Lewis
"Business was a pleasure"
I stayed with a colleague after a show at the NEC. A hidden gem, the building itself is stunning along with it's surroundings. Reception were friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the hall. All the staff were really attentive in a quiet professional way and looked after us really well. Dinning in the hall is a treat. Food was excellent and dining room has bags of atmosphere. Maybe I just loved the building, but the stay was perfect. Shame this was business, next time I'll take the wife. : )

"Business overnight"
Poor deal. Expensive - When I arrived on a Sunday night there was no one on reception - I had to wait ages to check in - they appeared to be understaffed. The evening meal I had was overcooked and the chips hard and overcooked with lots of scraps of potatoes, The worst thing was I asked for a 5am call as I had an early flight from the airport. That didn't happen and when I went downstairs the night porter was in the bar area and I had to get him to let me out and he said he FORGOT to ring me !!! The superior room was pleasant but right at the top of the house - and would not be good for someone with mobility issues.

Dear andyhughes2017, thank you for your feedback. I have discussed your food issues with the food and beverage team as well as the head chef - our food should surprise and delight our guests - we will double our efforts to ensure that this is happening every time going forward. I do hope that you brought this to the attention of the team at the time? Regarding your missing morning call, I discussed this matter with the person involved and impressed upon them how important it is that this does not happen again going forward. Please accept my sincere apologise for the mistakes made and please allow us the opportunity to welcome you back to Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel again in the future booking with myself directly to reassure you of any concerns you may have. Great to read you liked the superior room and don't worry all of our accessible rooms are located on the lower levels of the hotel. Kind Regards Lewis Poole
"Good value, pleasant staff and convenient"
Ignore the previous review about safety and security! We had a great stay. The car park and hotel were and felt safe. They must now have a state of art CCTV system. Room and accommodation was great. Staff friendly and dinner in the restaurant was good. We would stay agin and it was handy for the NEC ( the purpose of the trip)
"A well deserved rest."
Stopped off here on the way back to Cambridge. Fantastic looking place. Beautiful well kept grounds. Was able to sit outside, sipping gin and tonics, watching the sun set, in March. Excellent meal, great staff, good comfortable bedrooms. Reasonably priced. Would come again.
"CAR JACKING"
If your life lacks excitement I suggest you stay at this hotel. They throw in CAR JACKING at no extra charge. We were in the process of parking when we were attacked by 3 men one wielding a machete. Our car was stolen with our overnight bags. We then spent 2 hours with the Police. We were not asked to pay for the room but did have to spend £140 on a taxi to get home. We were not harmed but a frightening experience. The car park is not secure. If it ever happens to you you will find it very difficult to get your insurance to cover your losses, Chris Steere
"Enjoyable weekend stay"
Lovely staff and lovely location. Very accepting of dogs which was amazing. Room was nice and clean and food was delicious. Easy access to the gardens and parks across the road. They even left out water bowls and bins for the dogs especially, really nice touch to make our stay easier. We will definitely be back next year!
"Valentines night"
Great reception from Marios on arrival, he remembered us from a stay in August 2021! Young lady on reception remembered us as well. Very friendly staff. We had booked the Bridgeman Suite as it was a special occasion where the beds were decorated with heart shaped paper which we thought was lovely. Our Valentine's meal was superb - congratulations to chef and Marios for his hard work in making the evening a tremendous success for us. The waiters on duty, Michael and (Secunda?) were friendly and very professional. We had a great night.

"Disappointing Afternoon Tea!!"
Very disappointing experience. Me and my friend, who is chef thought very poor offerings. Would not recommend to anyone. No choice of teas, sandwiches were ham, cheese n pickle as I said lactose intolerant. Had to ask for sandwich for friend. One finger of salmon/cucumber put on plate. Portions small/poor considering money paid. Thought Hotel would use vintage crockery given it is an historic building. Lemon cake dry and macaroons were tasteless. So disappointed........ Courteney, our Waitress tried to see if she could get return of voucher but to no avail. Do not go there......

My daughter and I checked in at 9.45pm Wednesday night. The man on reception was so helpful and polite. We stayed in the Bradford Suite which was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was really enjoyable but the highlight for us was the lovely man unfortunately do not know his name who spent time telling us all about the history of the hotel and gave us a little tour. I would definitely stay again if I was in Birmingham and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

"Great building, staff need to be trained to give the wow experience"
The hotel is amazing, the rooms brilliant. I was staying just as things were starting to kick off with the pandemic so the hotel was quiet. No one available to check me in. Had to phone the hotel to find someone. Plenty of parking, although I could imagine this filling up quickly if there was a function or the hotel was busy. The room was lovely. Really nice bed, lovely chair to relax in and plenty of hot water. Although I hung my towels on the towel rail, they were changed. I was under the assumption that hotels should only change towels if they are on the floor or in the sink. I did not need them changing so minus a point on the environmental front. Breakfast was cooked to order. Poached eggs on the first day were fine, the second and third day they were overcooked. Coffee was awful. I am sure it was instant. Staff, although trying hard, the training they have had is minimal. A few were ok, but one word of advice. If a coffee cup is empty, you could ask if a refill is required. Luckily, the coffee was grim, so I did not require one but was not asked. Tasted like typical grim instant hotel coffee. This is an amazing building, with amazing rooms and decor. It's a shame the level of service does not match up to this. Show the staff a little direction and you will provide a great experience.

Again another delicious meal with family and friends at Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel Gardens busy with happy smiling faces. Marius and Daniel and their team made it joy to spend the afternoon with them. COVID friendly and very comfortable with all staff with a keen eye making sure everyone had a pleasurable afternoon. Highly Recommend.

Hi pjm762, Thank you for your review, we wish to see you again in the future.
"Quite Good"
We hired one of the private rooms and it was great. Nicely decorated and very private. The food was OK and the staff tried very hard with the service. Overall we were pleased with the service. It was good to see the manager on duty which is rare these days. The reception area is a bit disappointing. There is no need for guests to see the ugly security TV screens. I would give the reception a make over. The toilet area near the reception is also tatty. Take down the signs as the are ugly.

"great stay"
stayed here for 4 nights in the Dovecote hotel staff was lovely and welcoming on arrival the room was really nice except there was loads off dust on/ in the wardrobes and in the Drew's what I wasn't happy about because all my clothes got all dust over them the next day after i checked in but apart from that all good
"Alright if you must"
Arrived, checked in no issues. Got to the room and it was freezing as one of the windows won't close correctly. I know they are old but at least put something in the gap. Evening bar and meal was fine (fish and chips) and a pint. Breakfast is from 7-9. I was working at the NEC so needed to be there for 10 o'clock. Went into the breakfast area that was around a third full with about 10-12 people at half 8 and ordered a full English. 50 minutes later no food. Just as I was leaving, a group who were already seated when I entered received their food. So this is not a one off missed order. 2 ladies came in after us and sat waiting to give their order for 15 minutes, before standing up and leaving without eating anything. I spoke to reception and told them about the wait and they said the food is on its way, but it was too late we didn't have time now. There seems to be a lot of young people working there who didn't really have any direction and things seemed very hap hazard. If you are a hotel and breakfast happens everyday, how can you not cook a full English in less than half an hour. The group who were in before us who received their food at least 50 minutes after ordering all had eggs Benedict. Toasted bun, wilted spinach, poached egg with some sauce. How does this take more than 15 minutes? There is a lack of leadership and care about this place. I was hoping to receive a phone call today from the manager as reception said they would inform the manager when they got in. Still nothing. Not sure I will get a reply on here. I want 2 things from a night away. Decent room and breakfast. Massive fail on the breakfast. I did get £14 refunded for the breakfast.
"Never again!"
We booked a Sunday Lunch for 4. On arrival decided to have a drink in the bar prior to lunch. The chap in the bar didn't seem to understand English and how to make a drink. He had to be shown how to slice a lemon by the manager. The dining room was cold and completely lacked any atmosphere. We were booked for 2pm lunch only other guests in dining room were having cream teas, odd combination. Lunch arrived, good sized portions, in fact too much couldn't see what was on the plate. We asked for horseradish sauce to accompany our beef, told there wasn't any. As we were finishing another group came in for Sunday lunch and they were given horseradish sauce! We'd already told the manager couldn't believe no horseradish sauce with a roast beef dinner, he didn't respond. Very young inexperienced staff. Wouldn't visit again.
"Mother in law,s 75th birthday"
The service was excellent and so was the Sunday lunch we could not fault the food. Thank you for a lovely afternoon. They made my moms 75th birthday special. The yorkshire pudding we're the biggest i have seen.
"Lovely Staff, let down by a Poor Hotel"
Brew House - Room 625 This review is going to conclude in a pretty negative manner, sadly. Before that, though, I do want to say how friendly, professional, attentive and fantastic the staff are. Unfortunately the hotel lets them down Very uncomfortable bed. Solid pillows (I slept on the bed cushion!). Hairdryer broken. Towels missing. Previous guests clothes in the wardrobe. Stains on the carpet. Wedding during our stay (so very loud music and neighbour guests until 1am) which is fine, if one is forewarned which we were not and had paid upfront. Curtains didnt draw across the full window length. Breakfast options were very limited. We left a day early (despite having paid in full, upfront) as we couldn't imagine staying any longer and having another sleepless and painfully uncomfortable night The lovely staff need a payrise for staying here! Im sure it was once a stunning hotel but it needs some TLC/attention.
"Patrick (lives in the area)"
We spent the afternoon at Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel and after a delicious Sunday lunch with family and friends. Marius and his staff made the whole afternoon a delight. We was expecting some hiccups with short deliveries and staff problems that's been happening with pubs clubs and hotels in the area, we'll if there was any we was not made aware of it. Perfect afternoon for us. Big Thank You to Marius and all his staff. Be back soon. Kind regards. Patrick
"Anniversary treat"
Arrived before check-in, so had a lovely sandwich lunch in the bar. Slight problem with our room, but moved straight away. Executive twin in main building - tired, but - come on - the building is over 400 years old! The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom very modern with a lovely shower. Dined in the restaurant which was really enjoyable, thank you to Tiq and Jamie for looking after us. Food was great. Breakfast also very enjoyable. Many thanks to Mariso and Sophie for looking after us so well. Sophie said my husband reminded her of her granddad (he is 80!), she was a real treasure. The gardens next door are well worth a visit also. We would have no problems in staying here again.

"My wedding at Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel"
I had my wedding at castle Bromwich hall hotel on 28th august 2021 and I had such a wonderful time. Marius and Sophie are great at what they do and the day was everything we wanted it to be. We will be visiting again for anniversaries. The service was wonderful and I fully recommend.
"Filthy and tired"
Seemed ok when I first arrived just a bit tired. Pleasant lady on reception (who turned out to be fantastic) I was dispatched to my room with wifi code which worked sadly the wifi didn't Quick shower and a bit of tv (on a really small tv) then bed after a 4:30 am start In the morning i noticed the toilet seat had excrement on it !!! Being a man I had no need to use the toilet seat previously. on further examination the outside of the toilet pan also had excrement spattered on it. Utterly disgusting and totally acceptable. On looking more carefully at the room the carpet was Unvacuumed and there what appeared to be the contents of someone's nose on the wall. I went to reception and let my thoughts be known with photos also as evidence. The receptionist was brilliant and promised to sort it out by way of partial refund and move room by the time I came back in from work. When I returned I had been “upgraded” to an executive room in the main house. Not really an upgrade, smaller bed, smaller room, small tv and no bath. Better view though Was cleaner room and comfortable Breakfast was appalling. Very very limited choices full English was cheap ingredients and not a lot of it. The general condition of the hotel was poor it looks great from the driveway but look a little deeper and this place is crying out for investment. Broken furniture, filthy carpets, poorly maintained grounds and buildings, severe portion rationing and cheap ingredients. No partial refund arrived Make of that what you will, I stay in lots of hotels on a weekly basis the only good thing about this place was the receptionist
"Under staffed"
Poorly staffed, the staff are none stop running around trying to deal with overwhelming amounts of people. This morning there were two girls serving around 30 other guests, one girl not even a waitress (Receptionist) having to run the whole place it seems. This hotel has great potential to be something spectacular but they need a lot more staff to raise the service levels. I hope these people are being paid a lot of money because the amount of stress and pressure I have witnessed them under this morning is ridiculous. Hats off to Chloe and Nina. I hope on my return journey to see double the staff with a little more work f a relaxing atmosphere.
"Beautiful hotel, beautiful feeling"
The moment I walked in i was greeted by the beautiful Nina, made my life so much easier to check in and sort my diner reservations out. None stop smiling and made me feel at ease after a stressful journey. After a little confusion with rooms Nina managed to sort everything out for me and even upgraded my room. After this experience I will always come back and recommend this hotel to the rest of my colleagues while in the area
"Avoid like the plague."
My family travelled from Scotland for a special occasion and booked rooms in the Castle Bromwich hotel for 3 nights. On arrival rude staff refused to accept the booking confirmation and said no rooms were available due to a wedding booking. One staff member/manager? told them she wasn't paid enough to deal with complaints and walked off . No offer of help to find alternative accommodation for an 80 year old woman and her daughters as they said it wasn't their problem. My family contacted the booking agent immediately to report the issue but the following morning received an Email from them to say they had not shown up at the hotel.. Rude, unhelpful and then lying . We found out that night the same thing happened to another guest at out celebration who had booked in for one night. In the words of my niece they couldn't run a bath never mind a business
"Wouldn't recommend staying"
We went to a wedding at castle Bromwich hall hotel the wedding was lovely and the food was good some of the staff was lovely and helpful, however the rooms! To begin with they said to check in after 2 so we did they was quick to take the money out my bank 3 times may I add not just two which I was paying for my moms Room, now I have to wait for that money to go back in while they got there money nice and quick but the rooms were not even made Nando's and food all Over the room why did they let us check in if our rooms weren't even done? Like I said quick enough taking the money out my bank the women said she would Sort me a discount out but still Hasn't been sorted out as the room was £95 which is scandalous for what the rooms are there small and with only two tiny little windows so no air Coming in at all, I won't be staying there again unfortunately and I won't be recommending anyone to stay however it's a nice venue to get married in and they make sure everything is moving smoothly especially Sophie
"How did they ever get 4 stars???"
What can I say....the first room in the attic of the Brew House had rodents having a party in the ceiling at 1am, add to this a bathroom with black mould badly painted over. The next room had a lovely bathroom but the inevitable dirty net curtains and drapes hanging off the rails. As for the food...fortunately the bar food was mostly ok but how can bought in wedges of Brie be consistently served cold and hard in the middle. Spinach and ricotta tortellini which was swimming in what resembled tasteless watered down cream. Rae in reception was always pleasant but the same can't be said for some of the other staff. I certainly won't ever go back.
"Lovely lounge and resturaunt, food very good."
Really dirty net curtains in the bedroom, was told maintenance would deal with it,not nice to look at,nothing happened as it was the weekend, room by the bins, which kept blowing back across are window in the wind. Woken at 5.30 a.m. by the bins being emptied.
"Not all its cracked up to be"
The evening meal was great with fine dining at its best with wonderful staff and great value for money. The bar and ground floor areas are pleasant and comfortable. So they have all this right. Let down by the bedroom. The bath had a great crack in it that had clearly been there for some time and either it leaked through the crack or the plug was not fitting properly because the water kept running out. There were loose tiles on the floor and mould on the silicon in the bathroom, the window in the bedroom would not shut, luckily we could shut the curtains in order to keep the cold away. When we told them about the bath they did agree to reduce the price of the room, however this never happened. They did say that they would look at the bath while we were having dinner, this then turned into 'when we had left'. Would be interested to know if room 314 has a new bath!!! Management must have known that the bath was like this, after all no one cleaning the bath could have not noticed a 3" split, if they didn't then they should have! Breakfast was well cooked, tasty, plentiful with great poached eggs. One pair of guests decided to take all the jugs of juice to their table and I would have expected the waitress to deal with this. She was easily distracted and had to deal with a mother who thought it was good for her child to spend the whole breakfast period running around the room with several boxes of cereal. The mother stood by our table to give the waitress her order and as a result the waitress confused our order and thus we had a long wait for breakfast. It was such a shame with a few pounds spent on the bedroom the stay would have been good and they could charge more and still given good value for money. When we left in the morning and walked to our car we noticed what looked like a tip, or where someone had been sleeping in one corner, not a good impression.
"Not what's advertised"
I booked a superior double room expecting a spacious double room with period decor and a bathroom with a bath. I was given a classic double room that was clearly an out of place unused office room turned into a basic bedroom. I rang reception and stated that I had booked a superior double room and I didn't think I was placed in the right room, I was told they were fully booked and would knock £20 off my room rate (I'd already heard them say this to someone else on the phone whilst I checked in) I also asked at reception if they offered room service, which they do, to then get to my room and find no menu. The room is freezing, the window won't shut properly so there is a constant drift coming in. Bathroom is lovely and modern, just disappointed there was no bath like I expected. It is not what I expected at all, I stay in Birmingham with work quite a lot now but I won't be staying here again.
"Impromptu Afternoon Tea with Cakes"
Just dropped in with two friends and asked if it was possible to have pot of tea for 3 persons with cakes. It was and the service was excellent, the tea and cakes were delicious at a very reasonable price. Thank you for a pleasant afternoon in cosy surroundings.
"Amazing hotel"
Amazing service (Asim gets a special mention), but the staff are friendly, polite and are an asset to the business. Fantastic stay in a historic hotel steeped in history. Can not praise it enough. Will be staying again
"A lovely short stay"
We stayed for two nights and really relaxed. Very quiet. Nice gardens.Food was all fresh, reasonably priced and good quality. A lovely, rich in character property. Staff were courteous and friendly. We will come again. :)
"Could be so much better"
Myself and three family members booked here for the 12:30 Christmas Day lunch. I have both good and bad comments to make so I'll start with the bad, get them over & done with and then end on a high! We arrived to a very warm welcome and were told punch & mince pies were waiting. Mince pies BEFORE dinner?? Bit odd. Anyway couldn't see them anywhere - must've been in another room! We sat down pretty quickly as we had two disabled people dining with us. Drinks came quite quickly as did each course. We all thought the portion size of the main meal was a bit meagre; no roast parsnips and one very tiny (the smallest I have ever seen) pig in blanket. Veggies came in a separate dish so we could all take what we wanted. Although I prefer fairly crunchy veg, we all thought these veg were just on the very hard side. I had chocolate brownie for dessert which was more like a chocolate sponge but the ice cream was gorgeous and I ate it all anyway as it tasted very nice irrespective. Bit of an odd thing with the cheeseboard - we waited and waited but in the end I had to ask (it was listed on the menu). I hadn't seen anyone else being given the cheeseboard at all. The chap looked a bit taken aback when I asked and I reckon they had to go & milk the cow before actually making the cheese, it took so long, but what came was acceptable. Nothing to write home about, a very basic cheeseboard, one between two, with no butter for the crackers and not nearly enough crackers to go around. Could have been so much better because the cheese was a very nice selection & very tasty. Seemed like it had been rushed & not put together properly. Despite all these niggles, we did enjoy the food and we had a very nice time. It's just a shame that some things could have been so much better with not much extra effort to be honest. We were asked literally about 8 times during our meal if everything was ok. Seemed a bit over the top, but I'd rather be asked too often than not at all. What I liked about this Christmas Day lunch was that each table was served at its own pace rather than the whole room being served each course all at the same time. This building is beautiful and the Great Hall is such a lovely room to have Christmas Day lunch in. This place has everything it needs to be a superb choice for Christmas, but some really small (and odd) things let it down. Hopefully next Christmas will be better!
"Disappointed no one got back to me"
I chose this hotel for my partners birthday , on the 1st January 2020 it was close to home and a beautiful looking building . On arrival I was very happy with my choice the hotel looks stunning and is set in lovely gardens. Our room was equally as lovely I had chosen a superior room so that it would be in the main building as the other rooms are in a separate building. The bed was comfortable and the room had everything you could need for a night away.. Bathroom was equally as lovely if not a bit modern for the building ( could have done with being renovated to its era for that extra special wow). I'd also booked the restaurant for a 3 course meal which was ok but didn't leave us feeling wow, cost for a 3 course meal for 2 with a bottle of wine was around £80 . After dinner we decided to relax in the lounge area by the bar, sitting in the comfy sofa area I was horrified to see a mouse walking around the floor!! My partner did tell the man on the desk as he walked in and is response was to move a mouse catching devise from one side of the room to the other. This then ruined was was a lovely evening because I couldn't settle . Breakfast at the hotel was much nicer than the evening meal with a good selection of continental items plus the choice of a cooked option. Over all for one nights stay with breakfast at £180 I'd say I've stayed in better for less, Sadly after speaking to 2 separate people regarding our concerns about mice and emailing the hotel no one seems to be concerned
"Christmas lunch"
booked 3-30 didn't get seated until 5 o'clock upstairs room which was not very Christmassy. Main meal was nice apple pie came freezing not eaten had ask water cheeseboard wasn't best definitely not worth what we paid lacked that Christmas Day feeling definitely wouldn't book again . Few other tables complained
"Boxing Day Disaster"
AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! We had booked a table for 12 on Boxing Day, starters only 8 starters had came out, 4 starters came out 15 minutes later than the rest .. The MAIN course was an absolute disaster, it started when one of the young waiters came it with 4 turkey dinners when only 1 had been ordered, 1 was placed down and left to sit while they tried to scramble to get the rest out, still getting it wrong the second time they then tried to rush the 3rd time, this time serving RAW beef (not rare) because the service was so bad people had finished their mains 45 minutes before some people were served their raw mains, and when they did try and serve the good 1's an hour later, they hadn't cleared the raw meals from the table #SHAMBLES! A 50% discount was reluctantly accepted, I do in feel in this case a full refund should have been offered!!! Such a shame!!! Avoid the plague at the moment!

"Could do better - we only had lunch there"
We regularly drop into the Hall for a coffee or lunch as we love the location so much, my wife's grandmother was a chambermaid at the Hall and we find the building stunning, however the food is very hit and miss. We dropped in for tea and coffee today which was of a good standard and well presented, we usually read their complimentary newspaper over coffee but the staff couldn't find the paper today. We then decided to stay on for lunch, my wife opted for winter vegetable broth and roll and I went for pie of the day and confirmed the waitress confirmed it was ok to exchange the mash for chips. We explained that we wanted the soup and pie as mains and wanted them served at the same time. The waitress brought my wife soup and me soup together so we explained again we wanted the soup and pie together and that I had not ordered soup.. She apologised and said my pie would be with me in 2 minutes. It wasn't. My wife was very disappointed with the winter veg broth - it was hot water with courgettes and onion, she ended up leaving half, the roll and butter were fine. My main was served 5 minutes after my wife had finished, The pie was really nice and turned out to be ham and mushroom I think. But was ridiculously salty. The chips weren't chips as we have had previously (triple fried) but were a few fries in a bowl. The new general manager came over to us and asked us if we were regulars and asked us for feedback, which was good and we gave him very honest feedback on today's food. In hindsight we should have sent both meals back to the kitchen. It is 2.5 hrs later and I am still thirsty from the very salty pie and we have just noticed from the bill we were also overcharged, being charged for the 'chips' as and 'extra' which I actually exchanged for the mash. Its a great location with huge potential just needing to up the food standard and be consistent in the food quality.

Good Afternoon Jon E, Thank you for your feedback following your visit. I am sorry that on this occasion we fell short. Please be assured steps have been taken now and changes are being made so we would love to welcome you back soon to show this to yourself. Kind Regards Reception
"Disappointing birthday trip"
We chose this hotel based on the lovely pictures, for a memorable birthday break for my boyfriend. We pulled up to the hall and were impressed with what we saw. However once we checked in, we were told we were based in Dove Cote and not staying in the main building. This was quite disappointing as when I booked the hotel, I put in a note stating that we were staying for a birthday etc. Nothing was accommodated for that which was disappointing, as we've had great responses in the past from other hotels. Dove Cote is on a different road to the main building, you can walk over but will need to move your car over to the separate building. It's like a converted horse stables or something similar. We stayed in a room on the top floor and had the floor to ourselves. The room had its bathroom downstairs and the bed upstairs. We went back to reception to see if there was any possibility of changing rooms/upgrading but the receptionist was quite blunt and rude when saying the hotel was fully booked. Also the bathroom wasn't cleaned properly. There's was urine at the back on the seat, which was there when we checked in. Super gross! Hated to think what else hadn't been cleaned properly! We wouldn't stay at this hotel again and felt like we were falsely advertised a room.

Good Evening AryMook, I am disappointed to read your comments regarding your stay with us. We have a variety of room options such as superior rooms and suites which are situated in the main building of the hotel, on this occasion I can see you booked through a travel agent and booked a classic double room I am very sorry if this was not explained clearly to you. I would like the opportunity to discuss the service you received further and also to discuss the cleanliness of your room as this is not our standard. Please send a personal message and we can get this solved, otherwise please call the hotel on 0121 748 0030. Kind Regards
"One night stay"
Stayed one night while in area visiting Jaguar Manufacturing Tour. Was bit concerned after booking due to the negative comments left by others, but needn't have worried. We stayed in the Devereux room which was very large with wood panelled walls, and fireplace, plus an ENORMOUS bathroom with two sinks, bath and great large shower. Had great nights sleep. Bar area was lovely with comfy seats - we'd eaten in the Toby Carvery down the road before arriving, but would have had no reservations about eating here. We had breakfast in our room due to an early start and it was fine. Large on-site car park and prompt helpful staff.
CBHH-Reception, Reception at Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Good Evening 2outandabout2019, Thank you for your lovely feedback from your stay here at the hotel. I am very pleased to see you enjoyed the Devereux suite, I will be sure to pass on your comments to the rest of the staff also. We hope to welcome you back soon. Kind Regards
"1 Star breakfast"
Nice character hotel but severely let down by the breakfast. Buffet style with such a limited selection. One type of tinned fruit, cardboard cheap sliced bread, where the brown had ran out. Pastries, well best not talk about them. And the cooked breakfast, well the 15 or so fried eggs on heated tin tray looked inedible. So I asked if asked if the ‘chef' could cook me something poached eggs. Where the young lad returned and said the ‘chef' wasn't cooking poached eggs today. I use the word ‘chef' very cautiously because the limited breakfast looked like it had been cooked a 6 year old. Management: I am not the only one commenting about the breakfast. How can you let your ‘chef' present such a low standard 1970's style little chef quality food. Poor show and severely let's your hotel down.

"Great hidden gem"
This lovely hotel hosted a surprise 80th birthday meal for my mother and 17 guests. We had the pleasure and privacy of the garden room which was perfect for the occasion. The Manager and his staff were very accommodating and so helpful to pull the surprise off and service was second to none not only to top off our celebration with a selection of well cooked hot dishes, steaks, lamb shanks, soup of the day and freshly cooked bread rolls. I highly recommend this venue for dining and the grounds are beautiful.
