Description

Whether you're sightseeing, working or visiting Reading University, you can expect clean, comfortable and affordable accommodation at Sure Hotel by Best Western Reading. This eye-catching red and grey brick building was originally constructed in the 1800s as a house in the same style as the famous Huntley & Palmers biscuit factory. The hotel is in a quiet spot opposite a lovely church but within walking distance of Reading town centre (less than a mile away) and Reading University (half a mile away). Each of our simply furnished en-suite rooms comes with a fridge and microwave, along with Freeview TV and tea and coffee-making facilities. Some feature a kitchenette, so you have everything you need to store and heat up food in the comfort of your room. Our reception is open 24 hours a day and, as part of your stay, you'll get complimentary use of our onsite gym, plus free Wi-Fi and parking. This enables you to leave your car at the hotel and walk or catch the bus into the centre of Reading so you don't have to pay parking fees. If you're here on a sightseeing trip, there's plenty to see and do in the region, including Windsor Castle (21 miles away), Legoland (18 miles) and Cliveden House (20 miles). The hotel is also just over a mile from Reading station, which has connections to London and Heathrow and Gatwick Airports. Property refurbished in October 2023.

"Unprofessional Handling of Booking Error by Staff"
evandr0carl0se, 14 Mars 2024

I recently stayed at Sure Stay from March 12 to March 15 and encountered a highly disappointing incident involving an employee named Jennie. Despite extending my reservation and paying for an additional night, I returned to find my room emptied of my belongings. Jennie's handling of the situation was highly unprofessional, escalating to threats and confrontation over a simple misunderstanding that was later proven to be a system error on their part. This experience was unsettling and not reflective of the quality service I expected based on my initial impressions of the hotel. While I have had positive experiences with Sure Stay in the past, this incident has left a lasting negative impact.

"You would be desperate to stay here"
358kerryh, 11 Janvier 2024

The room was dirty, the bathroom was disgusting, it looked like it hadn't been properly cleaned for months. The window let the wind in, there was a thin duvet and very old thin pillows the bottom sheet was stained the lamp broken, human hair along the top and to top it all the door handle came off in my hand! I complained and was offered a free upgrade next time I stayed!! Old and dirty hotel.

"Lovely hotel"
Jules P, 16 Décembre 2023

This is a lovely hotel in a large old building. High ceilings and spacious rooms with an added extra of a full size fridge and microwave in every room. This makes staying away from home very much easier from the catering point of view. Town is short bus ride or 15 min walk and the University is within walking distance for any events you might want to go to. Staff are all friendly and helpful. My favourite hotel to stay in.

"My Home Away from Home"
StevenWeston, 05 Décembre 2023

I've stayed here repeatedly since 2006, often for many months at a time. The main draws are clean rooms, the convenient location, and the helpful staff. The only drawback is the age of the buildings, which means some sounds might be heard from louder guests. But only on two or three occasions, out of all the many years I've been staying here, has this marred my experience.

"Happy Stay, Comfy room "
798mdp, 04 Décembre 2023

Spent a night at Sure hotel Reading for a work purpose. I was staying at room 117. Nice lovely cozy room with big enough toilets with morder shower and toiletries. Nice comfy bed with heating and better facilities than Travelodge so far I have found. Surprised to see sink , kattle microwave and fridge coffee tea in the budget double room. Happy stay and staffs were friendly too...

"Excellent"
EduardBlagoci, 02 Décembre 2023

There is free parking inside the hotel courtyard. Checking in process was very quick and simple. Our room (115) was clean and unexpectedly well equipped with a kitchenette containing a microwave oven, an under-counter fridge, cutleries, tea cups, coffee and sugar. There was also a spacious glass-top desk with two cabinets on each side (under) and a hair dryer. The bed was quite comfortable (didn't woke up with my usual shoulder pain) and we had a quiet night. Modern an-suite with shower. There were fresh towels on the hot radiator (towel rail), the shower had good water pressure and the extractor fan was silent enough not to bother us. I would definitely consider booking again.

"Absolutely terrible"
lors0412, 22 Septembre 2023

Bathroom was disgusting, shower head sprayed all over walls and floor, sink tap sprayed everywhere, mould and mildew all over window and skirting boards, blood stains on bed linen requested new ones also dirty, bugs could be seen on bed, smell of mould in wardrobe, everything felt dirty to touch, walk to rooms air was not fresh smelling mouldy smell, staff were very helpful but the cleanliness of hotel seriously needs to be addressed

"Great solo stay"
Resort61069755687, 10 Septembre 2023

Great quiet, clean stay. I was lucky enough to have their newest room and had everything I could have asked for. Welcoming and friendly at the door helping me with any questions I had. Great price and room for a one night stay!!

"Away Time"
Paddy2908, 31 Août 2023

We are more than happy to visit this hotel again. Helpful friendly staff. Hotel breakfast excellent. Couldn't have wanted more. The room was very comfortable at a decent price. Hotel parking in Reading, great.

"Reading festival stay"
Dj3king, 28 Août 2023

Stayed for one night to go to the festival, location was great as was the hotel. Staff were very helpful, keeping bags safe if rooms were not ready and people wanted to go and the shuttle bus was brilliant.

"Super helpful staff"
Holly W, 19 Août 2023

Really friendly and helpful staff. We stay here regularly and always have a good experience. Would happily recommend and continue booking every month for the next year we are in Reading. Good rooms, good facilities.

"Sure- Reading"
katy197391, 09 Août 2023

Basic budget hotel- you get what you pay for and read previous reviews so knew what we were booking, simply needed hotel for location. Room very dated and old fashioned, however bonus having a fridge and microwave which was very useful with a family. Cleanliness was questionable. Only needed a basic room for sleeping as out all day. Staff very friendly and helpful.

"Visiting family"
fspalding, 08 Août 2023

Room clean & comfortable staff friendly & helpful bathroom needs upgrading bath was cracked toilet roll holder broken & showed screen not adequate as floor became very wet/flooded hotel close to town centre

"Terrible place"
Bronson180, 02 Août 2023

This Hotel is disgusting on arrival the receptionist while checking us in done nothing but chat with her colleague. Then we were supposed to have been given a card with details of services provided this was not the case the card was blank, on arrival to the room there was a very strange musty odour and the sheets on the bed were stained and ripped. The room service even though asked for did not happen the rooms were dirty and under the bed and the table the amount of rubbish was terrible. We were told to leave towels in the bath if we wanted them changed tell reception we did this and came back the next evening to find the towels still in the bath soaking wet. When my friend woke up on the last morning he had bites across his shoulder and on his wrist which were itchy and red then when complaints were made the management team have come back with disgraceful responses. I will be looking at seeking legal advice going forward.

"Needs a complete upgrade"
83SarahLL, 26 Juillet 2023

The hotel looked empty from the outside and not in use. Inside was no better and looked dated and tired. The room was basic with very old sanitary wear in the bathroom, the bath was chipped and the rubber plugs had clearly seen better days. However, the beds were comfortable and clean. Breakfast was included in our stay and it was fairly basic again in terms of continental options. Not overly child friendly either. The restaurant area needed a thorough clean as the dust and dead flies on the window sill demonstrated. Overall, did the job in terms of somewhere to stay for the night, however wouldn't rush back.

"Excellent price for outstanding service"
hattinghmgm, 17 Juillet 2023

We stayed in the hotel in Reading and it was lovely. I was a bit scared, coming from South Africa and not knowing what to expect, but this was outstanding value for what we'd paid. Thank you very much.

"Great Place to Stay in Reading"
PhilNewbury, 16 Juillet 2023

Needed a reasonably priced hotel for a work trip with parking and a gym. Did not expect to find a hotel which ticked every box and was centrally located. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the breakfast was perfect and the room comfortable. I will definitely be staying again :)

"Cheap & cheerful "
Departure00972365423, 09 Juillet 2023

Very cheap & cheerful. Lovely room with a comfortable bed. Although the bathroom was very dated it was clean & had everything I needed. The fridge, microwave & cutlery was an added bonus. Didn't use the restaurant or bar facilities so cannot comment on them. Staff on the desk (2 males) when checking in was not the friendliest, didn't smile or greet us & didn't look up from his paperwork when speaking to us. The lady on the desk when we checked out was much more friendly.

"very poor rooms at an overpriced hotel"
business-trav22, 06 Juillet 2023

The hotel is tired and poorly designed, the rooms are poorly laid out with our room having a double bed where the side of it was against a wall, not what you would expect for a hotel charing over a £100 per night, will make me think twice about staying in a best western hotel again.

"Regular Visitor"
Trevor S, 29 Juin 2023

Stayed at this delightful hotel many times and never been disappointed. Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are comfortable, clean and have the amenities that you might need. Recommend the Sizzling Spice restaurant nearby which offers guests a 10% discount.

"Good Staff"
Abbey2010, 10 Février 2023

Arrived late in the evening having been out with colleagues for a few drinks. The late night porter was very very helpful and friendly and showed me up to my room whilst carrying a plug in radiator which he set up. The room was clean and comfortable but was a bit dated, particularly the bathroom. Breakfast was alright. Sausage was a bit strange but the rest of it was ok and it arrived quickly. The breakfast room was very cold. The continental buffet was pleasant. When left my room, the corridor smelt of weed which wasn't so pleasant and there was a couple at breakfast filling their pockets off the continental buffet who brought the experience down. The service was good. The place needs updated. The rest was average.

"A comfortable stay"
Joan D, 11 Janvier 2023

This a 2 star hotel which is well placed with ample parking. We were very pleased with this hotel. It was clean warm and comfortable. Our room was very well equipped and the staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was excellent.

"Staff are amazing and helpful"
delyth13, 10 Janvier 2023

Arrived and was immediately upgraded to a club room in the coach house. Room was of a fair size, everything we needed and clean and no complaints about that. 1st night was comfortable and slept very well. 2nd night the room was freezing and we could not get any heat out of the radiator. It was past midnight so we used the spare towels as blankets. Kitchen (Wardrobe) facilities was a great asset. We made our own breakfast using the microwave. Fridge and small freezer added bonus, as was the kettle. Pleased with the club room in the coach house, cannot comment on rooms in the main hotel.

"My favourite hotel"
Jules P, 13 Décembre 2022

I love staying at this hotel. It's my favourite and I've stayed in a lot of hotels this last 2 years. It's a lovely old building with high ceilings and big heavy doors. Rooms are spacious and comfortable and always clean. They have very deep baths too. The staff are all friendly and helpful, I would recommend to others.

"Avoid!"
albertlovell, 12 Décembre 2022

Horrible with mould on window and stains in the bath, when reported no one gives a S***. worst experience to date having stayed over at many locations. breakfast room was freezing. Room was 60s decor and bed had seen better days. would of had a better night sleep in the car. avoided having a bath next morning as it was disgusting.

"Be SURE to stay"
fjvw, 16 Novembre 2022

Extremely convenient location. Rooms have fridge, kettle and microwave for storing and heating light snacks.Comfortable and good value for money. Parking in the grounds plentiful. Staff very polite and helpful.

"A convenient location at a reasonable price"
Richard C, 05 Novembre 2022

The hotel is a bit tired but the staff are friendly. We chose this hotel because it was convenient for a central Reading bus and had a car park. There was a reasonable breakfast spread and the bar was handy for an evening drink

"Budget low end hotel but warm welcome"
mazthirsk, 26 Octobre 2022

Very pleasant staff on arrival, if your after just a low end budget hotel then this is for you to just get out head down after very long drive clean bedding, shower and toiletries very good. Hotel was warm breakfast looked ok but we didn't have time lovely lady was offering us breakfast she was so nice :)) bless her carpets are a bit dated but like I said if it's just to get your head down it's fine it worked out at £27 pp 2 adults 2 children family room double and 2 singles the singles was bit hard and pillows bit flat

"Sure Hotel Reading"

"Comfortable stay"
Benu M, 14 Octobre 2022

Booked through Sure Hotel website. Waited too long as could get better rate if booked earlier. On arrival, they knew we were due but initial confusion on room as we booked non- smoking. We actually got a better room. Bed was comfortable with plump mattress and bedding of good quality and clean. One of the windows needed sealing as a bit cold. Bathroom was large with clean fresh towels. We did find low lighting. Switch for mirror in bathroom not working. Heating OK. Fridge and microwave with sufficient crockery and cutlery. Tea and coffee facilities great. Hangers provided. Hot water for shower or bath. Did have to ask for bath plug. If you wish there are options for continental or hot cooked breakfast. Did not appreciate the mopping on check out time as it was slippy. All the staff we came into contact with were happy and smiley.

"Average hotel, noisy house keeping. Outdated, very noisy."
Tina N, 14 Octobre 2022

I've stayed here twice now, on both occasions booked a late checkout. On the first, housekeeping kept banging on my door, asking me to leave. Explained I had late checkout so they made as much noise as possible so I left early. The second today 13th/10/22 @ 10.40 housekeeping is hoovering outside my door. Banging into the door and skirting. I know they need to clean but you would think they had some consideration. The room itself is very outdated, windows don't shut properly so can hear all the traffic etc. also very cold, due to the gap in the window and no heating on. Reception staff seem to be very helpful and pleasant. And the location is good. I don't think I will stay here again!

"Friendly and clean"
lauratX3560DE, 03 Octobre 2022

Our room was clean, basic but then it is a budget hotel. Handy to have a fridge in the room particularly helpful when staying a while. Breakfast was very good my omelette was excellent and the lady who served was really sweet and helpful. Lots of parking. Good location out of the town but near enough to walk. Staff on reception helped me with info on transport to London even though they were very busy, they gave good advice and happy to help. The pub just up the road was excellent too and you get a discount when staying at the hotel. I would stay again next time I am in Reading

"Our Second Home"
Carolyn_Arksey, 02 Octobre 2022

We have been staying at the Sure Hotel In Reading since March,we stay between 4 and 5 days a week. Katy and all her Colleagues work very hard to make your stay comfortable and pleasant, nothing is too much trouble. We stay in rooms with kitchenettes as I can make easy meals for when my husband comes back from work ,which is only 10 minutes drive the main reason we stay here. All the rooms have kettles fridges microwave and crockery,YOU DO NOT FIND THIS IN ANY OTHER HOTEL!! It makes our long stays much more affordable, and there is also free parking in the very large car park. The hotel is spread over 3 buildings ,so plenty of choice in different rooms and prices. Always clean linen, fluffy towels etc, some beds are different to others, so before writing negative reviews maybe ring and give your preference of what you expect and Katy and her team will do there very best to accommodate you. The bus stop is right outside the hotel on both sides of the street and it takes about 20 to 25 minutes to walk to town buses stop in various places and also right outside the train station, extremely convenient if you are traveling on with luggage. There are fans and heating in all rooms and irons and ironing boards in some rooms, if you need one it will be brought to your room. There is a launderette round the corner and many eating places around the hotel, at which some you can get a discount with you room key card, And lastly how many hotels allow you to eat your own food In there dining room!! Not many I think!!. The breakfasts always looks and smells delicious and they also have a small menu at night for guests who don't want to eat out or have takeaway. All in all, remember this is a budget hotel with many good extras ,and the best extra is the fantastic service and friendliness you recieve from everyone that works here including the hard working Housekeeping ladies and gents, always have a smile and a nice Hello in a morning when I see them starting there shifts, and I do enjoy my Chats with Katy and others on reception when they manage to have a minute or two spare,. Many thanks from Carolyn and Graham

"Good budget hotel"
lukemU8739RE, 27 Septembre 2022

Facilities are good; fridge, microwave free wifi lots of parking not bad for a budget hotel. I booked a single room clean and comfortable. Staff friendly. Price was the best I could find for Reading. I stay in the area often and prices have risen which is why I tried this hotel. Just out of town you can walk or catch the bus from over the road.

"Not the best in the west"
James M, 26 Septembre 2022

This is possibly the worst hotel I have stayed in. The building looks beautiful from the outside and when arriving I thought I was in for a treat, however as soon as I stepped inside I was contemplating paying £200 for a room at Premier Inn. The place is really run down, falling apart at the seams. On check in I was directed to the “Kendrick Building” and was told my room was on the first floor. Unfortunately there are about 5 different staircases each leading to 4 or 5 rooms, there aren't any connecting corridors linking them all. Eventually I gave up and went back to reception and was escorted to the room. The room numbers follow no logic, I was in a room that started with a 9 and the room next to me started with a 5. On entering the room I was again thinking about walking back out and paying over the odds for a Premier In . It was really bad. Peeling paint, bashed up walls and a strange smell. At least the bed would be comfortable right? No. It was rock solid and seemed to be very short compared to most other budget hotel beds. The sheets had a few faint stains but were otherwise clean. It was fairly noisy so I thought why not close the window - oh wait, how do I raise the blinds? The pull cord to raise and lower them had been chopped off. Not that it would have mattered anyway, the windows were shut but single glazed, badly fitting and draughty. The room faced a fairly busy road so there was constant traffic noise, sirens, and drunk people passing by throughout the night. The bathroom was roughly half the size of a shoebox. To use the sink I had to stand in the doorway. The toilet was shoved up so close to the sink that my knee was touching it. The shower was quite small but adequate, although the shower head sprayed in every direction except where you pointed it, and looked like something from the 80's. Which was probably the last time it was cleaned too - it was filthy. After again contemplating an expensive late-rate Premier Inn I decided to go out for dinner rather than risk the restaurant. I came back around 11pm planning on getting a good nights rest before a long day of meetings the next day and I fell asleep at about 11.30pm. BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZS!!!!! What the HELL is that? It was a very loud fridge located behind a wardrobe door, whirring away like a potable AC unit. Nice of them to provide a fridge, but I would much rather not have one than be woken up by a very loud electrical buzzing sound every 30 minutes. The final straw was the guest next door whistling for about 10 seconds at 30 minute intervals until about 3am. At this point I gave up and slept in my car for a couple of hours. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. Do not waste your money.

"Comfortable stay"
Q3530EYcharlesa, 26 Septembre 2022

Gem of a place really friendly staff. Room was modern added benefit of a fridge and microwave. Lots of free parking and free wifi. For a budget hotel it offers alot of facilities inc gym parking I will certainly use again next time I am in reading

"Overpriced and sub standard rooms"
kevinlingard2022, 23 Septembre 2022

Do not stay here. This accommodation is not worth the money. Hotel rooms were outdated and reminded me of student accommodation, not the standards I would expect from a hotel especially given the price paid.

"Worst hotel ever! Disgusting!"
josephmA1916GC, 23 Septembre 2022

Worst hotel ever! Light switch hanging off, half painted walls, filthy carpet, cobwebs and spiders everywhere, stains on walls. Shower was falling apart and you could see how poorly it had been put in. The fuse board for the entire building was open and an inch from the shower. Woken up by a clock tower that starts chiming every hour from 5am, then woken again at 7.30am by workman drilling in adjacent room. Didn't stay for breakfast it was that bad!

"Student Room"
stephenwhunt, 11 Septembre 2022

Staff pleasant, main hotel building looked nice. We were put in an annexe building to the main hotel, which seemed to be an old converted house. This building was run down with smelly hall ways, although our room was clean and quiet, not quite sure why we had a mini kitchen in a wardrobe with microwave and full fridge?? WIFI weak signal in this part of the building.

"Sloppy"
TravelUpsAndDowns, 10 Septembre 2022

This place feels more like a hostel than a hotel. The reception wasn't welcoming, and the 2 people manning the check in desk appear not to like their jobs. The rooms in this hotel are spread between 4 buildings. I was shown to the front door of my building, my room was on the 1st floor, where the stairs and the landing is dangerously dark, there is a light there, but I couldn't see a light switch. The room itself was claustrophobic, just enough space for the double bed with uncomfortable lumpy mattress, and shabbily furnished (no, not shabby chic!). There is a microwave and a fridge in the room, the storage bit in the fridge door was broken. The en-suite needs some attention. The taps when turned on full gives a trickle of water. The light pull was a broken bit of string, fixture for old mirror was left on the wall with holes under a replacement mirror. Breakfast next morning, I decided to forgo a full English and had the haddock and poached eggs, it was not appetising. There were other overseas guests have breakfasts there, and they all complained about the same things I have written here. A lovely lady in the reception desk was the only smile I saw when I checked out. This is so disappointing, as I expected better from something Best Western put their name to. There is absolutely nothing about the place that is attractive.

"Lovely stay"
123johnsonharley, 02 Septembre 2022

Helpful staff who had room ready on arrival at 11am. Prepared shuttle buses for those going to Reading festival which was very helpful. Also posted back my coat for free as I accidentally left it there

"Excellent Hotel for Reading Festival"
MadTitan, 02 Septembre 2022

Hotel was extremely well organized for the reading festival weekend - made my whole weekend stress free. Everyone was very helpful in making sure people arrived to the festival and got back safely. Definitely worth the money if you are looking to do a day at the festival and need a place to sleep after, couldn't recommend enough

"Requires improvement"
sarahlmills66, 22 Août 2022

Very outdated decor. Didn't feel clean. Unwelcoming. Lovely building on the outside but our room was awful , had the feel of a very cheap hostel. Wet floor in bedroom, stained sheet , fridge and fan looked ancient, broken tiles and rusted shower screen in bathroom. Nothing welcoming about the room. Staff polite but not friendly. Definitely not worth the money and won't stay again.

"Excellent base for Reading town centre"
Jeanette15, 22 Août 2022

We always stay here when coming to Reading - which we do quite frequently. It's such a convenient location for the town centre with the added bonus of onsite no hassle parking. The rooms are always clean and comfortable and the staff are friendly and helpful - especially so in my case this time as they kindly posted a left behind watch back to me!

"If I could give none I would"
Soprano2605, 21 Août 2022

This place is terrible!! So unsafe for a woman travelling alone. It didn't bother me that it was basic and a little noisy. I knew I was going to get that with the price but the safety was another factor. If you get put in the external building say no. I was terrified for my life! People banging on my door during the night, having to walk through a dark car park. A woman banging on my door during the night saying she has been attacked. When I complain members of staff even said they do not usually put women in there alone! Disgraceful!

"Improvement required, disappointing."
louisemH9561IP, 20 Août 2022

Damp patch on bedroom carpet. Stain on bedsheet. Room very dated. Felt shabby and unclean. Rust on shower screen, patched up broken tiles in bathroom. Polite but not friendly welcome by staff . At £85 a night not including breakfast this isn't good deal. Felt like very cheap B and B . Disappointing. First time booking with Best Western. Will avoid in future.

"adequate"
jwf322, 08 Août 2022

Pro: affordable, good location, good on-site parking, attractive building on the outside, unpretentious, on a good bus route into the town centre. Con: basic furnishings, outdated decor, thin toilet paper, plastic tablecloths, needs a deep clean, bathroom floor floods when using shower, no extraction fan in en-suite, wall light above bed means you can't sit up in bed, no eye-contact from reception staff who looked bored, leaflet rack has nothing about Reading (does it really have no attractions?). Summary: adequate, but don't expect to feel pampered.

"Basic but ok"
jomateer, 30 Juillet 2022

Room was very basic but clean. Had all amenities listed, including a fan which was very much needed as windows did not open. Mattress was a killer. Very hard. Staff friendly. Ample parking. Easy to find. Cooked breakfast was ok.

"Shocking"
carla6781, 23 Juillet 2022

High prices for bacteria invested room no aircon no shower as full of limescale and that's just the basics if I could rate it lower I would of mould every where and windows don't even open the blinds broken horrible

"Very First memorable stay in UK"
netraihiremath, 22 Juillet 2022

We booked online for this hotel and as soon as we landed , we arrived to hotel and just made payment and we are set. Very friendly and caring staff. I came with my husband and 2 yr kid. Enjoyed the stay here. My kid enjoyed walking around. Bingo! I found a new home just beside the hotel. Thank you so much for everything.

"Pleasant stay overall"
mbushong, 09 Juillet 2022

V helpful staff bit unimpressed with bathroom and kitchenette . Need a thorough clean of bathroom and revise kitchenette . I don't consider a fridge and old fashioned microwave a kitchenette. Also some disruption of sleep quality due to workmen working on other rooms

"WILL NOT BE RETURNING"
Laura F, 05 Juillet 2022

Stayed in Reading for my Daughter's graduation - This room cost me over £100 per night. Overpriced and disgusting is how I'd describe it. The carpets were full of stains, mould in the corners of the rooms, toilets, and the shower. The sheets were barely clean and very discoloured. The first room we were put in had a filthy floor, as if they didn't own a hoover, and curtains that could not be shut at all. Not even reaching the bare minimum of expectations at this point. Already stressed and disgusted, our start to my Daughter's graduation celebrations were not off to a good start to say the least. We were then moved to a 'better' room after complaining. This floor was equally as dirty as the first and had used wash cloths on the window sill - disgusting and completely unacceptable. What else hadn't they been bothered to clean? We then found out that there was no cleaner on site meaning this is what we were stuck with. Following a bad night's sleep, we woke in excitement for the graduation ceremony (and to leave this 'hotel') and found that not even the shower works properly!!! It immediately started to fill with water due to a drainage blockage and begun spilling over the bathroom floor. Literally every aspect of this hotel was a disappointment. No refund or compensation was offered by the hotel staff which is not only poor management but also unacceptable. And to top it all off, after reading other reviews, the staff have been fully aware of all these issues for years and still have done nothing about it.

"Utter Filth"
Vacation08814344560, 04 Juillet 2022

Utter filth. I walked into my allocated room saw black dots on the bed, (possibly bed bugs) saw the limescale around the shower head and went back down to reception and handed my key back to them. If you value your health avoid avoid. Best western should be ashamed of themselves having this hotel under their brand name. If I could give it no stars I would of done as it doesn't even deserve the one! You have been warned!!

"THE WORST HOTEL I HAVE EVER STAYED IN"
familyfeatherstone, 02 Juillet 2022

DONT EVER STAY THERE !!! I can honestly say it was the most disgusting place I have ever been to . The first room was the worst . The curtains were torn and grey the main curtains didn't pull across the window .The carpet was stained and sticky. The mattress was just pulled out of a skip and the bedding was so grey and stained it didn't look as if it had seen a washing machine. The second room was only slightly better. I really don't think that the management team had any hospitality experience because if they had there is no way those rooms would look like they did . Who ever owns this property should be ashamed .

"A decent budget hotel"

I stayed for one night. The room was small but clean and the shower was good. The room wasn't very soundproof and I was woken up a couple of times. The staff were very friendly and helpful. All in all, it was decent value for money.

"Great location"
Azodo, 09 Juin 2022

Quiet location=peaceful sleep. The staff were very softly spoken and patient. Variety for breakfast with choice of hot and cold + snacks included. Good supply of hot water. Shame that I went when they decided to do some repair and so it was noisey until 3pm.

The staff couldn't have been more helpful when me and my 4 filthy friends turned up on our bikes 1/2 way through the King Alfred Way. They offered us a room for the bikes and told us not to worry about the dirty bikes. A real treat, nice rooms, and great staff. What's not to like? So grateful to be so we'll treated, meant a lot many thanks!

"Tired, dirty and smelly"
Andy S, 16 Mai 2022

If you want to spend the night in a hotel room that smells like an old ashtray, has an uncomfortable bed and you can hear other guest breathing then this is the place for you. Best Western seem to think that cheap can excuse anything and have allowed this hotel to go many years past the point at which it should have been totally refurbished. We won't be going back and I won't be recommending anyone stay here if they can avoid it.

"Not a great stay"
MiniMiles007, 08 Mai 2022

I'm used to Premier Inn and they are amazing compared to this hotel. Standard rooms booked but we were moved to club for some reason, seperate building to the main hotel, awful room, too hot, noise from other contractor residents leaving for work at 5.45am, heavy footfall past window, noisey gravel carpark right outside window. We were in Reading for a 21st Birthday so this experience let us down.

"Not the worst hotel I've stayed in. It's probably top 3 though. "
caravan-shaker, 01 Mai 2022

Bizarre stay at this hotel. The room was unclean with old dust over the curtains. You can hear everything going on in the surrounding rooms. I heard a guy in the room above evacuating his bladder and sadly I could hear every detail and drip. I'm glad he wasn't horny last night. You could hear everything outside the building too. Sleeping wasn't going to be easy as a result, and this was made worse by the horrible bed and pillows. The TV was broken, there wasn't enough towels, and the room was tired. Good news is it was cheap. Sadly, not cheap enough to make up for all the issues.

"Changed to a different hotel...."
729andrewe, 29 Avril 2022

My wife's birthday trip down south did not start well. Had booked two hotel rooms at Sure hotel which quite frankly were pretty dreadful. Both toilets had copious stains in them from previous occupants, both had numerous noticeable marks on the walls, coffee cups not cleaned properly, general air of lack of cleanliness in both. Worse was a microwave in our daughters room which had the inward side of the glass door broken, should somebody use this it should be considered a severe health hazard. I complained and were shown two separate upgraded rooms, these were better overall though though upon inspection all the toilets were still stained with one having fecal matter in. The nice enough receptionist stated that these were the best rooms shown. He did refund the cost and we have now found a lovely holiday Inn hotel out of town....a complete contrast at a similar price.

"Awesome Hotel"
watson-marsh-uk, 28 Avril 2022

Let me say from the start that I adore this hotel; it is excellent value for money to stay, the employees and management are hugely impressive, and the rooms are excellent for a two-star hotel. I have always received a fantastic welcome here, professional, efficient, and friendly service; always looking to go ‘that extra mile' to assist you have a great stay. The rooms are particularly good for a two-star hotel; wonderfully comfortable and well-appointed together with being in good decorative order and clean. Most rooms benefit from a small kitchenette with microwave, kettle, refrigerator and sink ideal for preparing a quick snack. The bathrooms are always spotlessly clean and well maintained. The tv's are large and the Wi-Fi excellent. Located in a suburb of Reading, with ample free parking and close to a bus route into the city centre as well as a range of local shops, pubs, take aways and restaurants.

"Lovely place and friendly staff"
Daniel A, 27 Avril 2022

I really enjoy my long term stay in Sure hotel! definitely recommended! The place is well looked after, the staff are very friendly and always ready to help, 24hr reception service, parking spaces, gym facilities, i could go on and on.

"Excellent stay"
marcgM6636GU, 20 Avril 2022

What a lovely friendly hotel , I stayed over whilst racing the DW . The staff are excellent , especially the night security man - Marc . What an amazing member of staff , a true asset to the hotel , what a gentleman . You always feel say with him around , looks after all you needs . If anyone deserves a pay rise this man does . The hotel is excellent , location is central . Clean , tidy . Beds very good , excellent nights sleep . Quite , relaxing . With a fridge and microwave in the room all needs are catered for .

"Dirty Bedding and Room"
Billy095, 19 Avril 2022

The bedding had not been changed, there were hairs in my sons bed. I would of complained, however, it was late at night, The reception staff are polite and friendly. and are willing to help out where possible.

We will never stay in this hotel again,we didn't sleep all night, doors banging shouting in corridors and was worse as the night went we came away for a break but had to book another hotel for following day, was so tired I didn't feel safe to drive home

"Really bad sleep"
sjayyvize, 14 Avril 2022

Mattress was like sleeping on a plank of wood. Internet connection was not the best. Couldn't park my van as the car park was full. The only good think was the little kitchen area but it wasn't worth the money we'll too over priced

"Just don't."
xXGrace5Xx, 10 Avril 2022

I booked in for 2 nights. The staff upon meeting were rude, didn't offer to help with my suitcase (I was clearly struggling), didn't offer to show me to my room (which ended up with me being lost as the hotel is split between different buildings that I didn't know), and honestly it wasn't a great start. My room was a suite, it was tiny, the bathroom is not suitable for anyone who might even think about being plus size, there was marks on the wall, on the bedding, the carpet, the window sill was filthy, the internet is spotty. Honestly, the only redeeming thing is there were two lovely women at reception when I checked out and helped me to order a taxi, and that the location is near to where I needed to be. I took photos because I couldn't believe that a hotel is allowed to be at this standard, I wouldn't recommend it at all.

"Never again - avoid at all cost !!!"
Thefollowingtravel, 07 Avril 2022

First feeling when in the car park was of a weird and kind of unsafe hotel.. Then once we got the key of the room things only got worse: room of really poor decor, bathroom small and bathtube drain broken so you couldn't actually drain the water away from the bath/shower, small curtain that left so much light in that was impossible to sleep even with sleeping mask on! Noise kept me awake most of the night as continuous Lound noise from upstairs and from the car park for majority of the night and then all started again in the early hours of the morning. Bed quality :terrible.. Had a bad back all day as mattress was absolutely obsolete and of such a poor quality it was impossible to get comfortable for more than few minutes in a row! Continental breakfast had such a poor choice and nothing was freshly made - just some some cheap poor quality cold as stone muffins, pain au chocolat and croissant - lidl in comparison would have been luxury compared to these! Poor selection of drinks too. Sadly we saw the other reviews on this hotel too late otherwise would have never booked there. Just... Terrible.

"Clean, Comfortable, Friendly Staff"
sharonwK4518QB, 22 Mars 2022

Stopped here for one night to break up a long journey. Very easy to find with my satnav. Lovely, cheerful staff at reception offered me a free upgrade and I had a spacious Club Room which had a kitchen area with a fridge and a microwave. The room was clean and the bed was comfy. Had a good picture on the TV. The shower was good. Can't say any more as I was only staying one night. Would stay here again.

"Budget hotel with five star service"
935LauraB, 14 Mars 2022

This hotel markets itself as a budget hotel and sure enough it's very economically friendly but don't be fooled- this hotel has the best service I've had In the uk. As a mother travelling solo with her 8 month old baby I was very stressed at the prospect. But the staff at this hotel have done anything and everything to help me. Theyve helped me with things that I never expect any hotel to do as standard. When I arrived they got all of my bags out of the boot of my car so I didn't have to leave my son alone. They even got me a drink from the bar and bought it to my roon when I told him what a difficult journey I had. He set up a travel cot to my Room ready for my arrival and when it didn't go up properly they bought a brand new one for me. They put in a big bowl because they knew I'd have to heat up his formula. And the icing on the cake is when they ran out to my car for me to collect the coat that I'd left inside, so didn't have to wake up my son to go out again. This has been a very stressful day, but it would have been a lot worse without the amazing staff at this hotel and for that reason the 2 stars it gives itself are worth so much more.

"fascinating victorian building in Reading"
460lynf, 04 Mars 2022

We had a room in the 'coach house', which was handy for the car park and very quiet. the room was adequate with a well equipped kitchen cupboard - great if you want to make your own food, although the lighting didn't quite reach into the cupboard (we are old with sight loss) very clean, warm, well ventilated and with a comfortable bed. all the staff we met were friendly, helpful and relaxed. the bar was very basic, as was the bar menu, but well cooked and we ate there for the 2-night stay.

"Nice stay"
stephenbarber2022, 02 Mars 2022

The hotel was easy to find and we had no trouble parking there. the check in was quick and easy, the WiFi worked adequately, and my room was clean and tidy. I didn't use the bar or restaurant as we were working early morning.

"Disappointed"
zahirileanne, 05 Février 2022

The room was freezing (204) Keys wouldn't work recived attitude from a staff member when asked about the key he threw it across the desk . Very disappointed as I was travelling for work and I have alot of work in the area I'm disappointed to say that I won't be returning and this was the ideal location for me

We had a brilliant time here. The staff were amazing, The food was delicious. We couldn't fault the place at all. If you're looking for an intimate getaway in the south of Scotland you'll be hard pressed to find somewhere that ticks more boxes than sure hotel.

"Good night"
Charlie2002R, 01 Janvier 2022

Travelled with 2 friends and had an enjoyable time in reading with the hotel being up to a good standard. Staff were kind and helpful with the facilities all to a good standard. Plenty of room for parking so I would happily visit again.

"Disgraceful attitude of Dan the deputy Manager, we booked to stay at the sure hotel reading for 14 th December."
susie1950, 17 Décembre 2021

We arrived to stay here for one night as we were attending a family funeral at Easthampstead Crematorium. When we checked in there were no masks used by staff or customers were not approached about wearing them either, we were masked up. But felt very vulnerable The receptionist was behind a screen but came and showed us to our room without a mask. We thought we were to be shown to a room in the main part of the hotel, and no one said anything different. We were taken across the muddy car park round a gravel path through trees, walked through a fog of smokers who were staff, were they stood outside. No lighting when we got back from the funeral so was difficult to see where we were treading. We did not complain about the room at that time as we had pressure of getting to the funeral 30 minutes away. And what with the stress of driving down from Norfolk at a very sad occasion we were not in the right mind to discuss it, but know-one available anyway. The bed was very hard and lumpy which was very difficult to sleep. The next morning there was not anyone at the reception, so we rang the hotel after getting back to Norfolk. No one was available to speak to us as the manager and deputy manager were not in attendance we were told by Sheldon, the deputy manager Dan was supposed to ring me back today at 2 pm. At 4 pm decided to ring myself. Spoke to Dan, and he was not agreeable at all, and could not offer any sympathy to us. And made us excuses about the lack of use of masks. , I would strongly advise that this hotel was not used as in our experience was not a happy one. The only good thing we could say was the en-suite looked like it had been refurbished and was clean. From a very unhappy traveller.

"Good for a 2 star. Reasonable accommodation."
funboyfour, 20 Novembre 2021

Needed budget Hotel as visiting University. Initially apprehensive due to some reviews but needn't have worried. Booked via booking.com for £49 for a standard room. However decided to upgrade on line to a superior double. On arrival the receptionist said we had been given a “free upgrade”. When I referred to the upgrade I had done on Booking.com, the price jumped to £59. So not sure if we were upgrade by one or two levels. Anyway wasn't going to quibble over £10 which is still cheap. Our room was in an annex at the rear, next to a large car park. Room had adequate en suite (smallish)with a very good shower. Bed was very small. Also had fridge, microwave, sink and tea/coffee facilities. Complimentary toiletries. Heating worked. In my opinion quality is somewhere between a Travelodge and a Premier Inn, clean and tidy and no issues as mentioned in other reviews. However proximity to the Uni and parking made this a good choice. Didn't sample breakfast.

"Great place"
fionasN2823KY, 19 Novembre 2021

Really warm and welcoming place. The staff go out of their way to help you and make sure your stay is nice. This is so appreciated when you're working awaya lot. Special thanks to Sheldon, Karim, Katy, Georgia and Emma who were especially great.

"Short overnight stay to see family good price and easy access of motorway. in area"
fs0mrq2z52vq0cda2021, 08 Novembre 2021

We stayed a Saturday night for a birthday party on Sunday. We didn't realise that local half marathon was scheduled for the Sunday. The roads out side were closed so we had a job to move car . Had to walk and take a taxi. The hotel were excellent especially the lady on reception. She helped us with lots of things . The hotel is quite old and in some places need tlc . Our bedroom had a fridge and microwave but the blinds looked a bit broken. Just needed some overall care. Beds were solid. Not a good night sleep. Fireworks going off up to 3am lol

Apps_J, 30 Octobre 2021

Tired, uninviting room, very uncomfortable mattress and pillows, felt like student accommodation. Value good by booking the day before, would have been very disappointed if I paid the price a few days before. Toilet bowl heavily stained, making it look dirty. Heavy smell of smoke in corridors. Inside definitely didn't match the outside. Staff friendly and efficient, didn't use bar or restaurant so can't comment

"Terrible"
randjord, 29 Octobre 2021

If you want someone opening your hotel door at 01.15 am then stop here. Also noisy arguments in corridor in the middle of the night. Never stopped in a hotel as bad as this ever before. Didn't report problem but left as early as possible.

"Ideal location, budget hotel, could be excellent but needs work!"
brambleandpixie, 29 Octobre 2021

The hotel itself is stunning but the disappointment kicks in when you enter the room. This is a very budget hotel, as a BW member we were entitled to a free upgrade and what we had as an upgrade wasn't great! I would of hated to see what we would of got if we hadn't had an upgrade! The shower dripped constantly, the towels were dirty, no bedside cabinet so the phone is on the floor, the window doesn't shut properly, sink was blocked and very noisy from other users as the rooms are so close together. When someone opens or closes their door, it almost shakes the room and is extremely loud! The servicing of the room was non existent and after asking for the room to be serviced, I received a bin bag and two towels. Not really the right idea! Ideal for workers, contractors etc, for people who are just there for a place to rest their heads. If you are looking for a leisure stay, I would more recommend the Calcot Hotel in Reading where it's stunning hotel and rooms are superb. This place needs work.

"Dirty"
solomons636, 27 Octobre 2021

Horrible rooms that are dirty stained carpets and bedding. 100% had bites in my legs and was itchy though out the week stay. Would not recommend. Fine if you are on benefits and can't afford anything but would not come here again

"Lovely staff but rooms need a bit more attention"
RayCrimson, 25 Octobre 2021

The hotel is just down the road from Reading University and a short bus ride or 15-20 min walk from town. The staff were lovely and very helpful. The receptionist upgraded us to a club room to when our intended room wasn't ready. A staff member also showed us how to get to our room. The room was pleasant enough although we had issues getting the heating to work and a chair that was about to split. The staff promptly resolved these issues though. The only real complaints we have is that the freezer was in desperate need of defrosting, so much so that we could barely fit anything in it! The room was somewhat clean besides, a small stain on the sheets and bathroom floor mat and some cobwebs behind the TV by the USB port. The bed was comfy enough to sleep in.

"Unfortunate Room Allocation"
tafaram2014, 25 Octobre 2021

The staff I met were all great. But the room I was booked into smelled badly of cigarette smoke, there were cigarette buts on the roof from the bathroom window, the heating was not working and did not have a thermostat. Though I confirm the room my friend had was exactly the opposite so I was just unfortunate to have this particular room. Bedding was quite clean, had a comfortable bed and pillows. Great price as well.

"OUTSTANDING TWO STAR HOTEL"
chris-anthony-uk, 28 Septembre 2021

The standout memory for me of this hotel will be the awesome, friendly, and professional customer service from all the staff however in particular from Katy who was absolutely wonderful. This two-star hotel is very good, I stayed in a standard room in the coach house annex, which was quiet, well-appointed, and comfortable. The double room benefited from wonderful bed with excellent crispy clean linen, pillows, and duvet. The television was a little poor however the Wi-Fi was excellent. The microwave and refrigerator in the room were a welcome addition. The bathroom had a bath and separate powerful shower, was spotlessly clean with fluffy towels. Located on the edge of the town, just a quick bus ride from the railway station, the location is good with a large car park; benefits from some nearby local stores including Tesco Express and numerous take aways. Highly recommended and will return

"Charming, convenient and cheap, but horrible mattress"
profstout, 28 Septembre 2021

Just spent the night on the way back to Heathrow. Wanted a place to get a decent night's sleep before a long flight. while it is a Charming place, with nice staff and great location, the bed was horrible and you feel every spring in the mattress.

"Best Western Sure Hotel Reading"
martinsalmon124, 20 Septembre 2021

In all our years of travelling not only in the UK but Worldwide this is the first time we have ever had to walk out of any form of accommodation and refuse to stay. Website pictures and indeed the reception area of the Best Western Sure Hotel in Reading paint a completely different picture to that which we were offered. Our nominated accommodation was a loft room which was located away from the main hotel two buildings down in what can only be described as a run down property. It was very difficult to pick a section of the carpet within the room which was not stained in some way, décor was extremely tired and dirty. The bathroom and fixtures were heavily stained, unclean and leaking. Around the bathroom door and within the bathroom were hand and finger marks with the appearance of blood or worse. Photographs are available on request. I am really not sure what action you will take but please do not allow other visitors to be coerced into staying in these rooms without serious inspection and action.

"Awful"
I9277IGrichardr, 14 Septembre 2021

Stayed Friday just gone poor sleep and to cap it off the mattress stained with urine showed receptionist and got moved rooms but instead of previous night being free for making me sleep in someone else's body fluid made me pay another£79 please don't stay if you value health or sleep

"Great place to stay when in Reading"
fjvw2021, 07 Septembre 2021

A very good choice especially if you want the option of being self sufficient and careful re Covid. Very clean and well equipped. If you want luxurious surroundings maybe not your choice, but rooms very adequately equipped to a standard I don't usually see in U.K.

"Great"
J4728VGstuarta, 05 Septembre 2021

Great value, a bit outdated deco, but the staff make up for it with their professionalism and friendliness. Breakfast is great, i would definitely visit again if in reading, and would recommend to others

"Such amazing staff and extremely clean and nice rooms"
CharlotteVBNE, 30 Août 2021

We had to book this hotel last minute for reading festival and it did not disappoint, they were lovely and clean and very practical rooms. It was amazing for the festival as they had there own shuttle bus running as well as night staff. The customer service was outstanding and we would definatley stay there again if we went to reading. It was a 15 minute walk from central reading so it was a perfect location.

"Small room."
Mr_AGB2021, 21 Juillet 2021

When checking in I was not provided any hotel information. I was just asked to pay and was provided a room key. The website stated a gym facilities but I found no evidence of this nor was i informed during check in. I had a standard double room. The room was rather small which has a double bed and a small dressing table. There were two units, inside one was a kettle, sink and fridge. The other was a wardrobe for hanging clothes. There wasn't much floor space and the party walls are thin, you can hear next door quite clearly. In essence I found the room to be nothing more than a bed in a room, i found it too compact to work in there. Ideal for a night away and somewhere to crash but not a place away for business. Just a footnote. I'm sure I've left a couple of items behind. The hotel have my info. It would have been nice to have been contacted to let me know or just send them to me. But they have made no effort at all.

"Very helpful staff"
pest2014, 16 Juin 2021

Can not fault this hotel, great value for money, staff very helpful. I stayed on the hotest day of the year, there was a fan in the room but it was still hot. They offered me a move to a family room on the first floor, much cooler and very spacious. I am also working nearby and they have allowed me to park my car while I am at work. Room clean staff friendly and free parking, so great value of money in reading, thank you Michelle xx

"COMFORTABLE HOTEL WITH FREE PARKING"
Cheshuk, 16 Mai 2021

I have stayed a few times at this hotel as it is perfectly placed for The Royal Berks Hospital and the town. Plenty of free parking which is covered by CCTV. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the rooms are very good with comfortable beds. Breakfast is delicious and plenty to choose from. This hotel gives fantastic value for money, I would thoroughly recommend it.

"Great staff always friendly"
591msd, 16 Mai 2021

Staff couldn't be more helpful including showing me a short cut to the hospital and directions to the town centre which is only 10 mins away. The breakfast room was closed due to covid however I had a takeaway option, lovely and hot and freshly cooked. Lots of signs re face mask wearing and hand gel available. Being a female on my on I felt safe and at home mainly due to the staff. The room was modern and the bathroom new, I stayed in a club double, this had a fridge and a microwave handy to pop to the shop around the corner for supplies. Will stay again next time I am working in Reading.

"Not recommended"
hontie, 15 Mai 2021

This hotel is really good for people on benefits or if you are some sort of gang member. You can find this on gumtree, the manager (Kathy) advertising there. Just don't forget you bank card. If they could charge you to speak to them, they would. If you a good paying resident you can do what ever you want, even smoke in you room. The corridor smells of weed often. Just bring you bank card to the reception and they are never going to ask a question or tell you off. People listening to loud music 3 o'clock in the morning, so you will not get any rest. Don't think if you will complain about this then the Hotel manager (Kathy) will do anything, but she does give you empty promises instead. She is a well trained LIAR and train her stuff regularly for the same. The time I stayed there had some gang meetings, with loud music and breaking Covid-19 government rules (two house holds should NOT meet up in closed space). It's a Pandemic. The hotel have CCTV, to see everywhere what is going on. But if you bring your money, you can do what you want. Don't recommend to a nice working people to stay here, even for one night.

"Unprofessional customer services, moulds in the rooms extremely dirty not a hotel but rather a hostel"
mharni2021, 29 Janvier 2021

Extremely dirty filthy smelly place. Sewage around the rooms in 800 is so bad making all rooms smelly, dirty inside. Extremely horrible receptionist I have even dealt with . It's actually a hostel not hotel.

"Disappointing"
IVAreview, 03 Novembre 2020

Well It's simply tired and outdated. This is not hotel this is just a guesthouse not worth the money. No air-conditioning Strange set up in the rooms Need to be more cleaner Single glazed so quite noisy because next to the road Can get better Hotel for same price

"Great Hotel"
julesphillips1, 01 Novembre 2020

Sure Hotel is clean and warm. Good quiet location with nice view of church from certain rooms. Also enjoyed the church clock chiming. The staff are cheerful and friendly. Breakfast had a lot of choice and flexible to give a takeaway container for someone unable to come to breakfast room. I will definitely stay here again

"One night budget hotel"
derekw23, 28 Octobre 2020

One night only. Parking easy and not too far from town 15min walk. Check in clunky and slow. Didn't get the room I booked but it was fine enough. Get what you pay for and this was ok for the money but in no way luxurious. Shower average but I thought the room was clean enough. Didn't use any facilities. Would potentially stay again if looking for a cheap room.

"Good value comfortable hotel"
564MarkB, 27 Octobre 2020

We stayed here for one night as a family when visiting Windsor. Whilst only being a two star hotel, the hotel is clean and comfortable and is doing everything it can to operate in a Covid secure way. The room had a good size fridge which was useful. Beds were comfortable. There is ample free parking too.

"Fantistic place only to be let down by the shower!"
201petery, 01 Octobre 2020

My only issue was the shower, the shower door should be on the opposite side than it is because it covers the show control so that it is impossible to run and set the water temperature before getting it. As it is you have to get in the shower and experiment ...too hot and scold yourself, too cold and shock! Move the door so that guests can set the temperature before getting in. There is no tray in the shower so you have nowhere to place shampoo. The shampoo provided although is free is far too small and barely washes let alone a body. It is a shame because otherwise, it is a nice shower room The reception was fantastic, friendly and helpful. Room was spacious and clean Great parking Beautiful building Excellent breakfast

"Excellent value"
suemarb, 28 Septembre 2020

We had stayed at this hotel twice before, but this was the first time since it was taken over by Best Western. A lot, if not all, of the hotel had been redecorated and had new carpets. Our room in the Coach House was clean and well laid out. There was an en suite with shower. I would have preferred a bath, but maybe if we'd asked we could have been allocated a room with one. There was a kitchenette with Sink, microwave, fridge, cupboards with cutlery and crockery. We took in microwavable meals and ate in our room. The bed was comfortable. Heating in the room was efficient and controllable. Plenty of free parking. We paid for breakfast at the hotel, which was basic. Orange juice and a choice of cooked food. No cereals or croissants etc, but what we had was well cooked and hot. Pleasant staff. Would stay there again.

"False info on websites"
Stephen B, 16 Septembre 2020

Book on booking.com , upgraded to a executive double , website states room is 199 sq ft and they are advertising hotel as 3 star. Room no more than 120 sq ft bed against wall ( no access from one side) bathroom so small when sat on toilet your legs are under basin. Called reception to ask if in correct room, receptionist not interested in helping just said it's executive because it's been refurbished.went to reception at 7:30 am to speak to management, again reception completely unhelpful , saying no management on duty night manager gone home , day manager not available until 2:30. Covid No mask being worn at check-in or around hotel by guest or staff On check in receptionist showed us to our room without a mask , handling our key card and entertaining our room, which should not happen as our room is our bubble, have these people been trained ? Just now received a email telling me that it's a 2 star budget hotel not 3 star as per booking.com website. Executive upgrade in budget hotel, well thats a new one on me .

"Staff"
Chef B, 17 Août 2020

I've been staying here for quite some time and wanted to make a point of letting anyone thinking of staying here know that the staff here go above and beyond for all guests, I lost my phone one night and a young woman (Susannah I believe) made a point of trying to locate it on her computer for me, I walk by every day and they're nothing but polite, and just tonight the night manager mark went out of his way to make sure I felt ok as I felt a tad ill, amazing people and great value, definitely recommend!

"Weekend in Reading, Berkshire"
lynnd22082020, 04 Août 2020

This hotel was well placed for our visit to daughter and family. It was easy to find, the room was very clean and comfortable, and also quiet. Plenty of room to park the car. Not sure if breakfast was available in the main building but we had a kitchenette so easy to make drinks and 'quick' porridge. As we were there to visit family did not do any touristy things but I know there is plenty to see and do in Reading and it offers easy access to the countryside around.

"Very nice stay"

"Very good hotel"
Froggy_Joe, 13 Mars 2020

Found this hotel a couple of months ago when I moved offices. Very comfortable beds, the fridge and microwave gives an easy option to the continual eating out at restaurants (those who stay away a lot will understand). Rooms are always clean and tidy, staff very friendly, good bar that does food as well

"Won't be staying here again!"
frankiehughes, 10 Mars 2020

I stayed in this hotel because I had an interview the next day in the surrounding area. On arrival I received my room key and went up to my room. Upon opening the door I was hit with the smell of cigarette smoke and the room had not yet been made up yet. There was rubbish everywhere and the bed had not been made. I went down to reception to inform them of my misfortunate experience to which they responding by giving me a new room. I then went up to the new room and the key didn't work. I then went back down to reception for the third time and reported this- they fixed the room key and I went up to my new room to be greeting with a strong stale tobacco smell. I was up all night as the bed was uncomfortable and the fridge in the room made a loud noise. When I got up in the morning to take a shower it was cold and I could not change the temperature of the shower. Then, when I went to dry my hair before my interview the hair dryer did not work. I will not be staying here again and I don't recommend this to anyone.

"Very disappointing!"
katherinealexand2018, 05 Mars 2020

I only needed a bed for the night to make my early start the next day in the area more bearable. Luckily I arrived even later that I had originally planned. After paying for the full breakfast to be told that breakfast starts at 7.am, when I was leaving at 6.45! Told that maybe the kitchen cold leave out some continental breakfast bits for me - i'm guessing not much more than a box of cereal! I was booked into the Annex, as I opened the building door I was greeted with the overwhelming smell of smoke & marijuana. I couldn't get to my room quick enough. I was next to the car park, large draughty windows with only slat blinds. So the room was never dark or completely private. Had anyone stood close to the window they could see in. I could certainly see them. The room was small and the bed pushed into the corner by the window to make more room to walk past. I did go back to reception to ask if the block was smoking, I was told it wasn't, but the response I got was "oh, I shall try to work out who that is". Well it's not difficult is it, the smell is a give-away. Even if they did discover who it was, they didn't get it to stop. The smell was just as fresh the next morning. I had used my bags to block the large gap under the door to stop the light & smell coming in. Great i'm sure to have a fridge, perhaps if the room is big enough, but when it is just in the cupboard next to the bed, I was kept awake by the car park lights and the noise of the fridge. I could have cried, money wasted, no real sleep and hardly a safe feeling away from home. I could on about the features of the room and what wasn't great, but they are almost insignificant to the rest. I just know I will not be staying again and will think twice before trusting Best Western!

"Excellent hotel"
akashjanu, 05 Mars 2020

The rooms and hotel is excellent in terms of service and quality . The room has basically everything from microwave to heat food , nice and big rooms , 32 inch TV and free internet . I have nothing bad to say about the hotel room and service

"Run down"
jezturnerTurner, 29 Février 2020

Pretty tired looking and run down rooms. Damp patch on the ceiling, everything crammed in and generally could do with redecorating all over as wallpaper is marked and peeling. Everything seems clean, just really tired.

"Great value for a lovely stay in Reading"
emilymS7860CD, 26 Février 2020

Absolutely lovely stay here at the sure hotel in Reading. Fantastic rooms with a fridge, cutlery and plates. The staff were amazing, they went out of their way to upgrade our rooms to ensure we were all next to each other at no extra cost. I loved our stay here and will absolutely be staying again.

"Great value, friendly staff - recommended!"
fduarte20, 26 Février 2020

Had a one night stay with a few friends and have no complaints. Rooms were affordable, had everything we wanted and no one had any issues. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. We'll definitely come back.

"One night Stay"
Trevor S, 17 Février 2020

Just returned from a one night stay and for a 2 star hotel I can't fault it; I've stayed in 3 star hotels not up to this standard! I like the option of self catering and nice to see that rooms also provide crockery and cutler,y which is a nice thought as not encountered this in such establishments abroad! Thank you to all the staff, especially reception staff that made me so welcome and looked after my needs :-).

"Good value if a little on the tired side."
976neilp, 08 Février 2020

There are many reasons you might want to budget hotel but if you do you at least want to know it's clean and tidy. This hotel is a little scruffy around the edges but actually it offers a remarkably large amount of facilities and is in a very good location with parking. I have stayed on several locations at great prices. The room is a little scruffy the tiling in the bathroom is old-fashioned and doesn't match but it's been cleaned properly and does the job. In addition the room has a microwave and the fridge so if you can't afford to go out from meal we can always ping something yourself. Lots of parking a couple of local nearby pubs and a few takeaways as well. You can get a bus into the town centre or alternatively it's about a 20 minute walk. So if you are on a budget this is a good deal. Nice friendly and helpful staff as well.

"Bound to stay at a room like MR scanner"
Heyecan G, 29 Janvier 2020

I have never stayed at a hotel like this. A room like MR scanner. Paying more for transferring to another room. Non- operating heating system. Irrelevant and ignorant staff. Several times a day, I had informed them of the problem with the heating system.

"Excellent service i"
ASBBucks, 26 Janvier 2020

Well stocked rooms with microwave and kettle, always very clean. Helpful check in staff who consider parking etc and provide a consistently good service during regular (weekly) stays. Thoroughly recommend for a basic hotel stay in Reading.

"Simply great service"
sami5252, 24 Janvier 2020

The best service I have had in a hotel; friendly helpful and the staff go out of their way to ensure you have comfortable stay. Rooms are basic but then it is two star budget hotel. Breakfast was of high quality and served with a smile. Rooms are clean and even the housekeepers seemed happy. Close to the town and plenty of free parking. Wifi signal was reliable. Compared to other hotels prices are low in an expensive town, believe me I shopped around. A bit of a gem.

"clean, tidy comfortable"
Daydream369697, 24 Janvier 2020

Rooms are very clean and have very comfortable beds, rooms come with a small kitchen area with fridge ,microwave and kettle and hob, which is very handy. well placed for a short walk into the town center or to catch the 24 hour number 21 bus service. I was presently surprised at the high quality of the hotel for the price with free parking as well. I would highly recommend

"Humm"
Mapledown, 23 Janvier 2020

I'm surprised that this is part of Best Western. Very disappointing as reception could not find room, then when going to lounge found ceiling had been badly repaired and not painted was leaking again. All furniture was very well worn and had to in in lounge as restaurant was prepared for breakfast. Ordered Tikka Massala but when arrived only had three/four pieces of burnt chicken in it and no heat or flavour. The second night I checked in again due to work and went to a room where the carpet was soaked and weirdly the bed was soaked including the duvet but the ceiling was all dry so had to move me to another room.

"Brace yourself, long and honest review!"
RayrayC87, 23 Janvier 2020

Firstly getting to the checkout desk can be quite a challenge if someone is already being served as the front opens directly into people. The staff were friendly but asked for payment despite my company having already paid upfront when booking. I checked into my upgraded standard room and couldn't believe my eyes!!! I had a large fridge with microwave onto, two beds one single one double, however, they were extremely uncomfortable (I could see the springs) and the duvets were very thin. The bathroom was basic but the best part of the room. I couldn't find the electric point to use the TV but I did have a few ants to keep me company by the work desk. I asked if I could have a different room and was shown a standard room which didnt even have a shower appliance. I was not given any information on where to get dinner or breakfast. Other guests were asking to swap rooms. I stay in hotels 3nights a week every week and have never checked out of a hotel within the same hour of checking in. It was worth losing the money and staying at the Ibis instead.

"Amazing hotel for great price"
AndreaF2587, 19 Janvier 2020

We went to Sure Hotel for a visit to our old uni town and it didnt dissapoint! We got a free upgrade, from put lovely concierge and the room was clean, cozy and spacious. Location is very good as close to the uni and town so we just walked to get to the hotel.

"Good value, clean budget hotel"
Andy C, 22 Décembre 2019

I've stayed at the Sure Hotel (which also seems to be called the Hillingdon Prince) a couple of times recently. Great value for money as it was less than half the proce of the local Travelodge on the dates I stayed. First time was a single room in a separate building part of the complex. Very small room but had everything you needed, it looked to have been recently refurbished and was spotlessly clean. Second time I had a double room in the main building, a bit more space and nice and clean. Both rooms had the benefit of a fridge and microwave. The full breakfast with continental buffet was good and not too badly priced at a tenner. Alsdo one advantage unlike the travelodge is that there is parking, a real bonus in Reading where paid parking is pretty expensive.

"Base for visit"
767richardo, 20 Décembre 2019

Pleasent person when booking in. We were shown to a room in another building away from the main hotel. There We're puddles on the way. The room was good, looked as though it had been refurbished. The fried Breakfast on the first morning was good, on the second morning the hash brown was rock hard the fried eggs were hard, the bacon like rubber. We were very dissapointed with it, we can only assume there was a change of chef on the second day. Also there was water coming through the breakfast room ceiling on the second day as it was raining, not good, as they already had water issues. They need to spend money on this hotel to bring it up to a reasonable standard

"Low-standard hotel near Reading university"
th0mas155, 13 Décembre 2019

We booked a family room for 3 for two persons (my wife and me). We were looking for a refurbished twin room, and this room was offered to us. The size was ok for a couple but too small for three persons. Where should the people sit in the evening if there is only one chair? Where do I arrange my clothes if there is only an open hanger but no cupboard? Why do I need a fridge and a micro-wave in the room? Would I book a room that smells from the precessor guest? The bathroom looks newer (tiles, floor) but the tap technology is not adequate to 21st century. Where would you find two separate taps for warm and cold water? Do you first rinse warm water into the sink before you can wash your face with warm water? If you take a shower you want to regulate the temperature yourself but do you first want to dismantle the apparatus to get the water a bit warmer? We booked breakfast in advance for GBP 9.00 but the variety was very limited. Same "bread" (not suitable for European stomachs) every day, always same natural yoghurt, fresh fruit for the cereal from the can. We have expected a bit more for this price. Once in a week (Sunday) room was not serviced which was done again on Monday. We had the room because it was 5 minutes walk away from the appartment of our son who lives in Reading. And it was quiet (location was a big plus!). Next time I would search for a private B&B instead.

"Terrible"
Phil K, 12 Décembre 2019

Placed in a room that was nothing more than a vacant studio apartment...room was filthy, and was not in anyway connected to the main premises. With no phone, if you wanted to speak to anyone you had to walk outside and across to the main building, For £78 this sort of room was unacceptable. The heating didn't work so when I did go back to the main desk to report this I was provided another room in the main building which was considerably better.

"Inexpensive, convenient... All you need!"
RobinJamesDavis, 11 Décembre 2019

This place isn't expensive, it's a short walk to town, and if all you need is a bed for the night in a clean hotel with no frills or unnecessary extras, it's perfect. The staff are polite and helpful, the rooms are a decent size, and considering how little we paid for it we couldn't have asked for more. It's a great building too.

"Staff great, rooms clean but disappointing"
James J, 09 Décembre 2019

Close to town, parking. Rooms clean, staff friendly shower great. Also decent price. Now for the down side. Room had small double and single. Double only suitable for 1 adult or 2 children. It was pressed up against a wall so hard to get out of if you wanted to use bathroom. Also states there is a bar, It was nice comfortable area in need of decorating. Bar had 6-10 spirits and 1 beer on tap. Also closed at 10.30 on a Friday evening,

"Very happy"
maryxxx2019, 07 Décembre 2019

Over all I'm very happy with our stay. I booked online and got an excellent deal. It was quite cold outside but our warm was lovely and warm. I was shocked the we had a mini kitchen ..which was great idea!

"Not good"
KevinRayment, 06 Décembre 2019

The hotel was very full with a group of cyclists. As a result my room was not in the main hotel but I was lead past several houses to a large building up the road. My room was right at the top of the hotel and was in need of maintenance and had no soap tray in teh shower or anywhere to hang a towel. The staff were pleasant and apologetic and said they would have moved me if the hotel was not as full, hence the rating of 2 rather than just 1.

"Brilliant value "
rodbs1, 02 Décembre 2019

Stayed here again (third time), ideal for hospital appointments at Royal Berkshire, very comfortable, rooms well equipped with fridge, microwave, kettle etc. Plenty of crockery and cutlery, guests encouraged to make full use and there are plenty of small shops close by for provisions. Reception staff on arrival and checking out very helpful and friendly. Only rated 2 star but worth more for cleanliness, friendliness and value.

"Clean and homely"
Alison55zz, 01 Décembre 2019

Homely, friendly hotel Close to town free parking Room was clean new bathroom good shower Breakfast I ordered an omelette was big and filling I was able to work in the lounge using free wifi after checkout Wifi reliable Would recommend to others looking for a low cost room

"Dirty"
Rstuvwzyz, 30 Novembre 2019

I stopped here for one night having looked at the hotel on the Best Western website. It looks a clean good hotel, but I was sadly mistaken. When arriving I checked in and was escorted outside and had to walk a 100 yards to another hotel, or part of the hotel. I was escorted up to a room which on the first floor was large but quite bare. A fridge and microwave which did not work. A desk which was a piece of work top at a height you could not possibly work at. The bathroom was down some stairs. The decor required a re-paint and the curtains and nets required throwing in the bin. I enquired regarding evening dinner and Toledo bar food was available. I could not have a cup of tea with the kettle requiring cleaning. The hotel is not to the normal standard and I would suggest you do not stop

"Never again"
Readingstudent, 28 Novembre 2019

Hotel looks lovely on the outsids, great location near universal and the Oracle and is clean and clear throughout, until the room. Stayed in one of the 'top studios' with kitchenette, dated dangerous looking stove, scruffy cabinets, tired looking cutlery and microwave. Bathroom so dirty I couldn't use the tiny shower 1st night, also dirty room, dead flies and other people's hair. Heating was also stuck on all night. Approached reception, lovely lady apologised, said the maintenance man would be sorting heating, and bathroom was cleaner ... air vent still filthy, and food from previous occupants still there. Bed was also uncomfortable, springs in my back. Also very popular with construction workers, all lively and polite , but noisy and smoking at every entrance, place stink. My business paid £95pn, insane. Never again

"Great little hotel"
Jules5252, 26 Novembre 2019

Friendly service, not just one but all staff were helpful and made me feel comfortable. Rooms are basic but spotlessly clean. Breakfast excellent I had the most amazing huge omelette highly recommended.

"Avoid if you want to sleep"
Pablo1066, 25 Novembre 2019

No in house food. Order from the bar and wait for delivery. The Roos have no sound proofing and many people shouting and chatting all bloody night. Bed is terrible, I would have been better off on the floor. I checked out early and made a note to never return.

"Best Western - normally tired rooms and nice communal"
Ian H, 18 Novembre 2019

We stayed at this hotel to be shown to a scruffy sub standard room, even by Best Western standards. So we asked to moved in agreement with my payment for an upgrade. We were shown a larger room that stank of stale milk, but as it was late, we put up with it. The bar area was closed, so a drink wasn't even an option. On the Saturday, I returned to the hotel at 3 pm to find that housekeeping had not changed the beds or towels or done anything about the smell. I reported to reception and the guy stated that housekeeping worked until 5 pm and that it would be done! I took him at his word and we went out for food. upon our return, the room still stank and had not been cleaned, no clean towels and no beds made!!!! First time that has ever happened to me.

"Cute little hotel"
Charlalalaaa, 14 Novembre 2019

Really clean, nice hotel to stay in. Has a very tiny gym which was useful. Great room with everything you need. Bar wasn't open until 6 but shops/pubs are just down the road. Staff were lovely too and very helpful.

"Not good review"
conradthomas, 13 Novembre 2019

OK where do I start here!! We check in and the guy in reception said he would take us to our room (nice little touch I thought), when he put his coat on I thought "where is this room"? after leading us out of the hotel across "the car park into what could only be described as "student accommodation block" we were then lead around the whole block as he could not find our room!! this is while I was carrying all our bags, when he did find our room we were greeted with a "BUDGET ROOM" sign on the door!! nice. Down to the bar for some food where the guy who checked us in was also the barman! drinks consisted of "any cans from the fridge" as the ONE beer you have on tap is off!! The bar menu consisted of around 7 items 3 of which off the menu, we were then advised there is a good pub down the road!! So after we come back from the pub we went back to the room where I noticed many issues with the room, the room has not been cleaned in some considerable time, there is also some very poor maintenance.

"Good if you don't want any sleep!"
zoearmstrong0416, 29 Octobre 2019

I would never stay at this hotel again, after a night of being woken up by only what i can describe as a church bell ringing on the hour every single hour some absolute idiot decided they were going to test the fire alarm at 5.30am!!!! No staff visible to reassure all was ok after the alarm, The room was small and smelt damp with stained carpets, shower no bigger than a single wardrobe, bathroom floor felt soft and sunken when stood on. Only positive was there is a fridge in the room!

"Excellent value for money"
Russ P, 25 Octobre 2019

Very friendly, efficient staff, good sized rooms, all with fridge and microwave, free internet. Ideal for families / couples looking for affordable accommodation near to Reading centre. Lots of attractions in surrounding area. Ive stayed here almost every weekend since March this year. Highly recommended

"Great breakfast, staff and value"
graemes169, 25 Octobre 2019

Staff were helpful. The chap before me had booked the wrong room (there was three of them and he'd booked one room with two beds) the staff were genuinely scrambling about trying to see what they could do to help, they were utterly sincere. Breakfast was great, a very good full English. They have an ice machine near reception ;-) but no ironing board in my room, did have a microwave oven though. Bathroom was in great condition and may have been renovated recently. You can get the windows opened to a decent degree for ventilation, not that half inch you get at other hotels. Bed was comfy and TV of a good size for the room. It wasn't the biggest hotel room I've ever stayed in but didn't feel small or cramped. Bed was large and very comfortable, slept right through the night. I interacted with four members of staff during my stay and they were all extremely helpful and interested in me and my stay. Car park is a little haphazard but I think we all got in, I arrived at midnight and found a place to park. I would definitely stay here again.

"Lovely staff and comfortable"
forensic2be, 24 Octobre 2019

Check in was friendly and very quick My room was clean and had everything I needed I loved the fact I could cater for myself as I didn't feel like going out Very goodnight nights sleep and bed comfortable Breakfast in the morning was delicious and waitress was kind and helpful For the price you can't really go wrong

"Awful hotel"
Aku4, 23 Octobre 2019

I was working in reading for an extended time. I have stayed multiple times at this hotel including a 1 month stay. During weekings, I would not be using my room. I miscalculated by a day. In the morning they emptied my clothes and medicines. In the evening when I got there, they said they had thrown them away. A few weeks later, I brought my daughter with me for work experience where I was working. I booked 2 rooms. At 4AM the police woke me due to a report of a child being there. Absolutely outrageous.

"Adequate for a night"
Terry C, 18 Octobre 2019

Stayed for 1 night on business - there aren't many hotels in Reading which come in under budget! Room was basic but adequate and also had a microwave, sink and fridge which was useful. The bar does serve curries, but made use of the microwave and ate in the room. Room was clean, as was the bathroom. Breakfast was good - fruit, cereal, toast, yoghurts etc. or they did cooked options. Had the porridge which was as you'd expect, but other people's sausages / eggs / hash browns looked rather tasty. Pretty large and free car park round the back. Would stay again if in the area.

"100 pounds mistake - saga of disgust"
vassi2017, 16 Octobre 2019

I had to change my room 3 times and upgrade ones, yet deficits in terms of cleanliness were still unsettling: unmissable stains and hairs in bedding, used bedding, uncleaned stains from human excretion in the toilets. What was even more unsettling were the receptionists' assertions that the rooms offered to me were done, clean and if I didn't like them I shall change the hotel. This insinuates that what was offered to me is an acceptable quality standard. The last ‘tolerable' solution was a room with toxic smell from cleaning causing headaches and nausea.

"No wardrobe in my room plus heating didn't work at all"
basitovaisi, 11 Octobre 2019

No wardrobe in my room plus heating didn't work at all. This was flagged to your staff many times but no action was taken to make my boiler working. Heating is a basic thing which should have been check before checking your guest in.

"Nice rooms"
Stevemijas, 29 Septembre 2019

Great rooms , especially studio and above , clean comfortable great shower , excellent location for Royal Berkshire Hospital, and busses near for town , station etc , only 10 mins. Staff very helpful and friendly. Good value.

"Clean comfortable & friendly"
Dc999901, 20 Septembre 2019

Great hotel; my room was clean, basic but comfortable. The staff are friendly and I felt at home even though I was staying alone. Wifi was good and plenty of parking. I tried the bar meals one evening food was home made. Rates are good compared to other hotels in the area and handy having the fridge and microwave in the room. Would stay again.

"Make sure you are not in the annex - simply dreadful"
cardinals3366, 11 Septembre 2019

Without a doubt the worst room I have stayed in. Whilst the bedding was clean and fresh the room was incredibly shabby and smelt rather musty (or perhaps there were some dead bodies under the floorboards) It looked as if the building had been used as some sort of hostel before becoming a hotel and without the benefit of any upgrades. The stains on the carpet were competing for attention with the rotten windows and shabby curtains. Make sure you take earplugs! On the plus side breakfast was good although significantly marred by showing Piers Morgan on TV and speaker.

"The Usual Good Standard"
Sherril E, 07 Septembre 2019

As per other times we have been in the UK, we based ourselves in the Hillingdon Prince in Reading, where our son lives, and came and went from there. The staff are so friendly - nothing is a bother. I became very ill during one night and Mark, the night porter, assisted my husband in getting an ambulance. He then brought him a coffee while we waited and kept checking on how I was doing. My husband greatly appreciated his support. We spent a total of 21 nights at the Hillingdon Prince, mostly having the continental breakfast. I didn't want a full English hot breakfast but I did express the wish to just have a couple of poached eggs on toast. This would have cost us the same as a full English breakfast; a senior staff member at reception arranged for me to have just the poached eggs on more than one occasion for the same cost as the continental - a small thing but really appreciated. The rooms all have a fridge, microwave, crockery and cutlery which means that you can self cater, which we did for our evening meals most nights. It is also a great location as it is on a very good bus service, and there are local shops and food outlets just a few minutes walk away in both directions. Coming from New Zealand we needed to pack for all eventualities hence we had big bags, but being in our 70s we are unable to haul these around with us when we are just going away for a few days, or even over to Europe for a longer period. The hotel were happy to store the large bags for us while we were away which made everything way more manageable.

"Reading Festival Sunday"
KW202002, 30 Août 2019

After reading the reviews I was worried about what we would find when we stayed here but I phoned before arrival and made sure we stayed in one of the newly redecorated 'club double' rooms and although quite small they tried to make the most of the space. A second wardrobe concealed tea/coffee making facilities, microwave and sink and although the room had no air con, an electric fan was provided in the other wardrobe. Bed was comfortable and pillows and bedding was clean and soft. Staff were friendly and helpful. All in all a good stay. The only negative comment I would have would be the extortionate mark up on cost due to it being Reading Festival. Usual cost of a room is around £40 and I paid £130! For a 2* basic hotel that's a bit cheeky.

"A pleasant suprise..."
CiciB123, 26 Août 2019

Had heard a few people say this was a bit in need of a facelift but I must say the reception looked spotless and the staff were absolutely LOVELY!!!! Super chatty and really friendly and the room they put us in was SPOTLESS!!!! The whole room (bathroom included) was immaculate. Freshly painted and so comfortable. Would recommend in a heartbeat. :-)

"Go elsewhere HP awful"
Pocu1000, 26 Août 2019

This is a dreadful hotel that needs so much TLC. It is tired old and dirty. Checkin a mess, taken to our room that wasn't cleaned or ready, asked to use anyway as I needed to change so we could go out on time, but our keys to room didn't work, flaff to sort out. The linen on floor we were told they would come back, hours later when we returned were still there bed unmade. U don't think they had cleaned it, fresh towels were there. But everything was old, failing apart and dirty, the carpet thin and stubborn with a iron burn, not nice to walk on as stratcy. I couldn't bring myself to use shower, it didn't look clean. The bathroom was a closet really. Overall grim and staff didn't care to fix or apologise for mess ups.

"Reading Festival stay"
Missusjolly, 26 Août 2019

Given that the alternative to staying in a hotel for Reading weekend is a tent the standards we were applying were low. But as we were shelling out £118 without breakfast it had to be a notch above just having a flushing loo and a lock on the door. Sadly, that was about the size of what we got. We were in a room away from the main hotel. It appears that rooms in the main hotel are passable. If you get any say when booking, ask for a room in the main hotel. You may have more luck. But we weren't so lucky. The main problem was we were in a ground floor room, and realised at unfortunately far too late a moment that the curtains were coming off and therefore couldn't close properly. This meant that passers by (or other residents nipping out for a tab) got a lovely view of us in bed. That didn't feel too secure. I didn't sleep well. The room was grotty, the carpet looked like someone may have died on it in the 70s, but the cleaners had clearly done their best (nifty point on the loo roll). However, I didn't chance the shower. The bed linen was also thankfully clean. If hotel management reply and say “why didn't you mention it at the time” the answer is a) the queue to complain at reception was long b) what could you have done - you certainly couldn't have moved us. The hotel was full. And I doubt you had handy men on call. The taxis (shuttle) to the festival aren't free. But they were an absolute godsend there and back. That was a massive plus. The staff seemed pleasant too. All in all I feel a big mugged of £118. But I suppose it was a notch up from a tent. We were in room 800.

"Spotlessly clean room"
dha77uk, 17 Août 2019

I stayed for 1 night and I've never stayed in such a clean room. I checked in late evening and the staff that were on the front desk were very welcoming and courteous. The morning was a little less slick but I've already rebooked.

This hotel should not be rated at all it is a dive. There are so many negative feedbacks I cant believe I missed them upon booking. The rooms are filthy and wasnt even made up for the second night. The place is only fit for workmen builders who are working on site. It was covered in scaffolding and not finished. They upgraded to a room in main hotel where wallpaper was hanging from wall. Reception staff rude and unhelpful. Bar closed at 10.30pm and not 11pm as stated. No point in complaining as the Manager just says if you dont like it go somewhere else. Wrote an email of complaint and they couldn't even be bothered to acknowledge it. This is undoubtedly the worst place (I cant call it a hotel) I've ever stayed. Even if you want to be close to the university like I needed to be don't waste your money on this flee ridden pit. Beds had springs sticking out and covered in bed bites in the morning. Please read ALL of the negative reviews on trip advisor and booking.com prior to thinking about booking this place. A sleeping bag in a shop doorway would have been more hygienic....the negative list goes on but it has already been addressed by all previous negative feedback.

"A good overnight stay"

A very clean place to stay, friendly staff and room very well equipped. The towels were soft and clean and the pillows nice and spongy. TV good size and shower good. I would recommend and stay here again in the future.

We were very happy with the accommodation as the room was clean and a good size and well equipped. There was a lift to all floors and the hotel seemed to be well maintained. There was no air con in the room but the fixed wall fan made our stay comfortable.Only one small criticism was toilet seat faulty but still able to be used safely. Free parking an absolute bonus. We would use this hotel again.

"Helpful staff, thougtfully equipped room in a central location."

Fantastic and friendly welcome from the staff. The scrupulously clean room had been equipped with care - a microwave, fridge and hob in addition to the usual kettle - with nice linen. I was pleasantly surprised and have already booked in my next stay.
