Very friendly hotel, easy to get to. In a nice area, atmosphere good nice bar! Rooms very clean a little dated but comfy. Clean hotel and gym. Staff were pleasant. Just a shame I had a bad experience in the restaurant, starter came out was lovely, then they forgot about me! When I got the food an hour later the waiter apologized for the long wait, I could see it had been rushed it was greasy and burnt on the outer and inedible, I was hungry but it wasn't worth a night of indigestion ! It's a shame, but the staff were nice and polite.
Thank you for your honest feedback. We're pleased you enjoyed the hotel, location, cleanliness and friendly service from our team. We sincerely apologise for the long wait and disappointing quality of your main course. This is not the standard we aim to provide, and we will be reviewing your comments with our restaurant team. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we hope to welcome you back for a much improved experience.
Great stay lovely staff was looked after well
Thank you so much for your lovely review! We're delighted you enjoyed the great location and that our team looked after you so well. We hope to welcome you back again soon!
Have just returned from a long weekend at this hotel with a coach company from Essex. I had a lovely experience. The hotel is lovely and my room was comfy and clean. The restaurant was very pleasant and the staff and food excellent. I must praise in particular Theresia in the restaurant who was happy to serve us and did so in a friendly and efficient way and yet also welcoming. I found the manager Kamal amazing - he was so efficient and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for him to please the guests. They both enhanced my stay and are a credit to Best Western.
Thank you for your wonderful review. We are delighted to hear that you had such an enjoyable stay and that you found the hotel comfortable, the food excellent, and the service welcoming. Your kind words about Theresia and Kamal will be passed on to them as they will be thrilled to know they helped make your stay so memorable. We hope to welcome you back again soon.
Booked as an Alton Towers package break. Wasn't expecting luxury for the price but did expect to be able to safely wash my children without the fear of them coming into contact with black mould. This hotel has more examples of various different types of mould than an average cheese factory and would probably be great for scientific experimentation. The shower and bath in our room were covered in black mould, all around the sealant and behind every tap. The pool area was disgusting, mould in every crack and crevice. Staff were surly and unhelpful, giving incorrect information about pool opening times which led to our plans for the day being thrown off. The room was genuinely not clean. Sweet wrappers were left on the floor so clearly it had not been cleaned and there were bits of food on the chair when I pulled it out from the dressing table. Carpets are dirty and threadbare with holes in. Honestly I wasn't expecting luxury and I know you get what you pay for but this was dirty. I would never stay again. Positives were the breakfast was decent. Nice fresh warm pastries and food regularly replenished with a good range to choose from. Parking was also easy and plentiful.
Thank you for your feedback. We're very sorry to hear about the cleanliness and maintenance issues you experienced, particularly the mould in your room and pool area. This is not the standard we expect, and your comments will be shared with the relevant teams. We're pleased you enjoyed the breakfast and found parking convenient, but sincerely apologise that your overall stay fell short of expectations. Kind regards,
Hotel is found lacking in the cleaning of bar lounge, furniture upholstery very dirty on the arms, carpet frayed in several places, not a good look, and not conducive to relaxing with a pre- or post-dinner drink. Public stairway to 1st floor needs a good clean, along with the adjoining passageway carpet. Room was fine excepting the constant traffic noise, night and day, and growth of weeds on balcony, some easy fixes here but not in time for us! The leisure pool was very nice but not the easiest to navigate from changing room to pool as the wet stairs were very difficult for a user with some mobility issues, therefore I only used it the once.
Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that certain aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. We appreciate your comments regarding the public areas and accessibility around the leisure facilities, and these have been shared with the relevant teams for review. We're pleased you enjoyed the pool itself and found your room comfortable, and we thank you for taking the time to highlight areas where improvements can be made. Kind regards,
Was probably quite good 20 years ago but hasn't been updated since. Got there to be told the lifts were out of order, one had broken down some time ago and the second one couldn't handle the extra traffic or so the duty manager said, by day 3 it was still out of order. Room was tatty, stained carpet, broken sink and mould in the bath/shower, nothing a decent clean and s bit of bleach would not fix. Was there for a work meeting, others at the meeting had had previous experience so stayed elsewhere. Restaurant staff were friendly and accommodating although the Aircon was broken so not s great place to eat when it was 35 degrees outside and probably hotter inside. Ty whole place was tired and could do with a major refurb. One to avoid in my opinion.
hank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. While the lift and air conditioning issues were the result of unforeseen maintenance problems, we appreciate the inconvenience they caused. We're pleased to hear you found our restaurant team friendly and accommodating, and your comments regarding the room condition have been shared with management for review. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. Kind regards,
Booked a King Suite and was looking forward to our overnight stay. We checked in and was pretty disappointed with how tired the property looked. The lift was broken so up the stairs with our cases. When we got to our room we found it was a family room with twin beds, not the King Suite we had booked. The reception staff, although she knew failed to inform us that the King Suite that we had booked had been allocated to someone else and the family room was it, nothing else was available. Called the manager and all he could say was sorry and offered us a free dinner in the restaurant. Had the reception staff told us this on check in we would have left the hotel and made other arrangements, she obviously knew this little detail but decided not to tell us. Tired after a long day and it was late afternoon we decided to stay. The food, dinner and breakfast, at the restaurant was nice. Overall the room and decor of the whole hotel looked very tired and in desperate need of update, I cannot recommend this hotel and will not be staying here again. Parking was £5 per 24 hour.
Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that your stay did not meet expectations. While we regret the room allocation issue and appreciate your disappointment at not receiving the suite booked, we are pleased our team was able to offer a complimentary dinner as a gesture of goodwill. We also apologise for the inconvenience caused by the lift outage. Your comments regarding the condition of the hotel have been noted and shared with management for review. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. Kind regards,
4* prices -4* experience Given wrong room, told no spare rooms. Expected to share a double bed with my 16 year old son. Lifts broken - not accessible at all, and have mobility issues and got given a room on a 2nd floor that involves stairs. Shocking experience and not what I expect from a best western
Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear about the issues you experienced during your stay. While our team worked to resolve the room allocation concerns, we regret that the available options did not meet your needs. We also apologise for the inconvenience caused by the lift outage and appreciate the challenges this can present for guests with mobility concerns. Your comments have been shared with management for review. Kind regards,
Dated. Cheap sausages. Staff that love to chat and gossip. Over priced bar. Smelly.
Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that your stay did not meet your expectations. While tastes and perceptions can vary, we take all comments regarding food quality, facilities, cleanliness and service seriously. We will share your feedback with the relevant teams for review as we remain committed to providing a welcoming environment and a positive experience for all our guests. Kind regards,
Booked this hotel for last 2 nights of a round the UK trip, as we have Merlin passes for Alton Towers. Location was great for that, we usually stay in Stoke but this route brought you out on the right (left) side of the car queue! It's a unique building, architecturally interesting, modern but classic. We had a family room up in the rafters. Husband enjoyed playing with the electric velux blinds-! There was a sleeping area for my teenager with a dividing wall, then a lounge area with table and 2 chairs. Sofa, one TV (freeview only), giant size adult bed and a further single for my son. All beds were extremely comfy. Room was immaculate. Breakfast was very good, full English, most of it as a buffet, you could also request extras such as black pudding and vegan sausages. Yoghurts, fruit, cold meats and cheeses, cereals. Plant based milks in small fridge. Close proximity to Tesco, McDonalds, and m&s food hall a few miles away. Pool area was clean, lovely sauna, didn't try the steam room. Very quiet late afternoon apart from a couple of hot tub hoggers! There was a separate jacuzzi area in the main pool though. Towels and locker padlocks were provided, we brought towels from the room though. The best part of this hotel was the staff. The new lad being trained on reception and the lady helping him were very kind. 4th floor lift was out of order but they told us how to get to room via 3rd floor lift, so just one run of stairs. Lady who came to check the slow draining bath returned with handfuls of shortbread for my son! Breakfast staff were lovely too. They do a good job of recruitment here, well done! I'd definitely book here again, the pool and free parking were bonuses. Get a package with free breakfast if you can as it's a good start to the day. We also did the no room service for free drinks option, just asking for extra loo roll and towels as needed instead. The 4 free drinks were much appreciated!
On arrival the rooms booking was wrong whilst it was resolved by the helpful staff, one of the rooks smelt of wet dog and after dinner I returned to find a can of air freshener on the side for use. The hotel could be amazing with investment.
Our family recently stayed at the BW Michaelover Hotel in Derbyshire, and unfortunately the experience fell a long way short of what we would expect from a 4-star hotel, particularly given the price we paid. The initial welcome was good, and our first impressions were actually quite positive. There was plenty of parking, which was convenient, and the hotel appeared pleasant enough on arrival. We also ate in the restaurant on our first evening. The food was reasonable, although the service was very slow. It was also one of the hottest days of the year, yet the heaters were on in the restaurant, which made the dining experience particularly uncomfortable. We stayed in the Chatsworth Suite, which has a good layout and could potentially be a very nice room. Unfortunately, the condition of the room was extremely disappointing. It was tired, dated and, most importantly, not particularly clean. The furniture was scratched and damaged, the carpets were peeling, and there were numerous signs that the room was in need of significant refurbishment. The accompanying photographs show some of these issues. The bathroom was equally disappointing. Although it had both a bath and shower, there was mould and dirty-looking grout in several places, including behind the soap dish. Some of the tiles underneath the shower were actually coming away from the wall. The liquid soap dispenser next to the bath was empty, and despite asking for it to be refilled, this was never done. More concerning was the shower itself. The tap/temperature control was broken and had no handle, making it difficult to control the water temperature safely. This was not simply a cosmetic issue – it presented a genuine safety concern, particularly when trying to adjust the shower while the water was running. Again, the photographs clearly show the condition. The room did have air conditioning, but unfortunately it wasn't producing cold air, which made the room uncomfortable given the exceptionally warm weather during our stay. Overall, while the initial welcome and parking were good, the condition of the accommodation and the level of service were nowhere near what we would expect from a 4-star hotel. The room needs significant investment and refurbishment, and basic maintenance issues clearly aren't being dealt with promptly. For the price we paid, this was very poor value for money. Based on our experience, I would not consider this a 4-star hotel and, unfortunately, I would recommend avoiding it if you have other options.
Not the best hotel I have stayed in to say the least. We arrived late and checked in to be told the lift was out of order so we had a bit of a hike to get to our room. We were greeted in the room but the lovely smell of sewage but due to the late hour and the fact we were tired we stuck it out. The bed was incredibly soft and lumpy at the same time. The bottom of the bathroom door was absolutely rotted and falling apart. Everything was old and worn out. The breakfast was not great either. The hot plate was only replenished on request and then there was a wait. Sausages over cooked and bacon undercooked and you could have played golf with the fried egg yolk and don't even start me on the hash browns, I think they were cut out of old cereal boxes. We told reception twice about the smell but on both occasions we were met with complete disinterest. Even on checking out the two staff at reception didn't even ask about our stay and again we were met with complete disinterest. We had three rooms booked for our family and we all felt the same, we won't be going there again. I wish I had taken photos but unfortunately I didn't think at the time.
Awful rooms, awful experience no one takes responsibility or accountability. we arrived at 1:00 p.m. was charged 30 pounding in the room early there had no air conditioning when I complained took four hours and still it wasn't fixed. move to another room shower leak complained and it wasn't fixed.
My daughter and I joined the leisure centre and while we were in the process there was a rude, loud, disrespectful costumer. Connor was the staff member who was extremely calm and collected, signed us up and managed the situation perfectly. For his age we found him mature and respectful to all. I never write these, but felt when you have a member in your team, especially in customer facing roles, that are this good at their job.. you should keep hold of them. So thank you Conner ! Also Sam who I met yesterday, very polite, inquisitive as to why I would like a ‘compliments' slip… and was directed to this site. Such a relaxing place, especially after the recent updates. Keep up the good work lads.. we notice!
Thank you for taking the time to share such wonderful feedback. We are thrilled to hear that both Connor and Sam made such a positive impression during your experience with us. Connor will be thrilled to know that his professionalism, maturity and calm handling of a difficult situation did not go unnoticed. Providing exceptional customer service is something we pride ourselves on and it is fantastic to hear that he made joining the leisure centre such a positive experience for you and your daughter. We are also pleased to hear Sam was helpful and welcoming and that you're enjoying the recent updates to the leisure facilities. We will be sure to pass your comments on to both Connor and Sam. We look forward to seeing you again soon! 😊 Kind regards,
The hotel is situated on the outskirts of Derby, with no local facilities such as restaurants within easy reach, thus one is a captive. On arrival at the hotel, the welcome was at best perfunctory, and the fact that I had accidentally booked for one person not two not very well handled. The room itself was a good size, but the room curtain was badly torn and should have been replaced. The shower screen over the bath did not fit, meaning water flooded the floor and the wash basin was badly cracked. The room lighting was poor and the bed side lights useless - we had to use torches to read by. The restaurant menu and food were at best "average" and service perfunctory. The cost of our one night stay was "full" for what we got. Throughout our stay, we did not feel "Welcome" and the room we were allocated desperately needed attention. We won't be staying again.

Really nice hotel. Rooms very reasonable. Service for food and drink was excellent the first night. Absolutely shocking the second night. Really ruined my stay. What a shame.
Thank you for your review. We are pleased you enjoyed the hotel and that our team delivered excellent service on your first evening. We are very sorry that your experience on the second night was so disappointing and that it affected your overall stay. Consistent service is extremely important to us and we will be reviewing your feedback with the team. We hope to have the opportunity to provide a much better experience on your next visit. Stopped over with work visit Looked ok from outside No air con in reception even though 37 degrees outside Room second floor well dated inside Booked a table in the restaurant ordered club sandwich and onion rings took an hour to arrive !! Called it a night and went to bed Air Con hit n miss in room So dissapointed with restaurant didn't bother with breakfast Won't stay again sadly
Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry your stay fell short, especially in the heat. The air conditioning issues and restaurant delay are not acceptable and we're addressing these with our teams. We appreciate your comments on the room and service and we're using this to improve. We're sorry you left disappointed and hope you might consider giving us another chance in future. Kind regards,
This hotel is down it is run down with exposed wires in the bathroom hot towel radiator . The hotel staff can be some good some just rude .
Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry to hear about your experience and especially concerned by your comments regarding the bathroom condition which we are addressing urgently. We also apologise for the inconsistency in service and will be reviewing this with our team to ensure a better experience for all guests. Kind regards,
we were on a holiday with Crosskeys travel and asked for a disabled room, 1st one was not ideal, or second, but the third was. and Zakira Kamal, and Emma went out their way to get us a step for the shower and raised toilet seat, and extension cable for my mask. and also a charger for my phone. they were brilliant. nothing was a problem for them. they were so caring and helpful and went above and beyond duty of care to help us. all staff we met were excellent, even in the in the restaurant. if something on the set menu was not to our liking you could order from another menu. jools Jose and Paige were great to us and the service was good. the room we had was big and the beds so comfortable with air con, which they sorted for us as i messed it up. the room was cleaned every day and spotless. we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. and a nice gesture from Emma to come out and wave us good by and Zakira who gave my wife a hug the day before as she was off the day we left. a lovely gesture from lovely beautiful caring staff. i would recommend staying here, and hope one day to go back and visit them. each and every one a star, who all loved the job they were doing. well done all.
Thank you for your wonderful feedback. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay and that the team went above and beyond to support your needs and make you comfortable. It's great to know you were happy with your room, the cleanliness and the service throughout including in the restaurant. Your kind words about the care and attention from the team as well as the thoughtful farewell, mean a lot to us. We truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you back again in the future. Kind regards,
We booked the restaurant for a family dinner, we were asked to pre book our food because there are 9 of us. I have no problem with this. When we arrived the restaurant wasn't busy, maybe to other tables occupied. We were taken to our table and informed the waiting staff that we had pre ordered. They then left us for 15 minutes before returning to take a drinks order. Slow considering how quiet the restaurant was. We then waited for an hour for the food to arrive, after the one member of staff in the restaurant wasn't prompted to see what the hold up was. The service to clear the table was just as poor, again the staff had to be prompted to do it. The food when it arrived was at best average.
Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry to hear about your experience. The delays in service and food are not acceptable and do not reflect our standards. I have shared your comments with the team and will address this internally. Kind regards,
Spent two nights here as a base for a wedding. Cosmetically the hotel would hugely benefit from a total revamp, as furniture, fixtures & fittings are out dated & in places grubby, however, the staff were amazing throughout our two night stay. The cleaning team worked hard to keep the rooms maintained to a good standard. Upon arrival we were placed in a room overlooking the A50, the traffic noise was unbearable; upon going to reception to ask for a different room, the manager had it sorted within minutes and helped move our things swiftly to ensure we had a good nights sleep. Kamal, the restaurant manager was funny & açommodating, making all the guests feel welcome. We booked a table for fifteen for breakfast on day 3 which wasn't ready when we all arrived, however, Shakira, who was on duty, ensured everything was dealt with swiftly & professionally. She organised freshly cooked food items to be brought out to cater for the sudden influx whilst carrying out her other duties. The team worked very well.
Thank you for sharing your feedback following your stay with us. While we appreciate your comments regarding the décor, we're delighted to hear that our team made such a positive impression throughout your visit. I'm pleased we were able to resolve the room move quickly to ensure a comfortable night's sleep. Thank you again for choosing Derby Mickleover Hotel. We hope to welcome you back in the future. Kind regards,
Recently stayed here after a change to my original plans. I'd initially booked to visit the area in April, but due to work commitments had to rearrange for early May. I called on the morning of arrival to upgrade from a twin to a double, and everything was handled perfectly and sorted promptly when we arrived. We checked in shortly after 8pm and were greeted by Zakira (I think - I'm so sorry if I've got your name wrong), who was friendly, welcoming and informative throughout. I had followed signage for the parking stating “Pay on Arrival”, so it was a little confusing to then be asked to enter my details again at check-in. As a refund couldn't be offered, we were instead given two complimentary drinks, which was a great gesture of goodwill and more than fair for the inconvenience. The room itself was an 'Executive Double' (101) and provided a spacious, clean and comfortable environment for a good night's sleep. We found the additional pillows in the wardrobe a great comfort and the only slight downside was that the room felt a little too warm and the air conditioning didn't seem to make much difference. As such, we ended up sleeping with the balcony doors open. There was some background noise around 7am when glass bottles were being emptied, although as an early riser it wasn't really an issue for me. At breakfast we were again greeted by friendly staff, with the self-service options clearly explained. After enjoying a toasted bagel with Marmite (delicious!), we moved on to the cooked breakfast. Honest feedback from someone who works in the industry: overall it was good, although a couple of the sausages seemed as though they may have been reheated from the previous day, and the hash browns had perhaps been sitting out a little too long. That said, the overall selection — from cooked breakfast and continental options to yoghurts and pastries — was extensive and definitely enough to set you up for the day. Unfortunately our plans on the Tuesday meant we didn't get chance to make use of the leisure facilities, but the pool looked inviting and wasn't overly busy during our brief look around. Overall, the atmosphere throughout the hotel felt relaxed yet professional, with plenty of spacious areas to unwind outside of the room. I'm not a particular fan of football but the surrounding décor made for interesting memorabilia to those who I'm sure appreciate the history. Thank you to all the team members we interacted with during our stay — I'd definitely keep this hotel in mind if I found myself back in the area again.
Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review of your stay. We are pleased to hear that the room upgrade and check in experience went smoothly, our team particularly Zakira made you feel welcome. Your feedback regarding room temperature and breakfast quality has been noted and shared with the relevant teams. Thank you once again for choosing Derby Mickleover Hotel. We truly appreciate your recommendation and would be delighted to welcome you back in the future. Kind regards,

We went as a group of 40 and everyone had a great time. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The rooms were all very clean with our bathroom having a bath with shower over it. The bed was fine with plenty of room. The bed room had plenty of drawers and wardrobe space. We had breakfast and dinner included in our package and the dinner was outstanding. I did not use the swimming pool but members of our party said it was good
Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are delighted that your group had such a great time and that our staff, rooms and facilities met your expectations. We hope to welcome you all back again in the future. Kind regards,
We visited the hotel for a short weekend break. The hotel is a few miles from Derby itself. It is easy access from the motorway. Check in was smooth. We stayed at a suite room. Just by walking into the room it was clear that a few years ago, this would be the base for a lot of football teams based on the pictures on the wall. The suite toom was nice and big. We had a living room area with a fridge and large tv as well as a large dining table. The bedroom was big which also had its own television set. There is a balcony but for safety issues we could not use it. We also had a large bathroom with a separate shower and a bath/shower combo as well. Some of the furnishings showed wear and tear, but that is reflected on the price. It would have been nice to use USB sockets by the bed, well actually more plug sockets by the bed. We had breakfast included and it was a nice set up. Very much to the Best Western standard, fried eggs, hash browns, good Danish pastries, croissants etc. The coffee from the hot drinks machine was not that great, I settled for hot chocolate. The hotel has a small swimming pool which we used. We also tried the sauna and steam room. They also have a nice gym. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel.
Thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the smooth check in, spacious suite, leisure facilities and breakfast. We appreciate your feedback on the furnishings, plug sockets and coffee, which we will take on board as we look to improve the guest experience. We are glad you had a pleasant weekend stay and hope to welcome you again soon. Kind regrads,
We recently had our wedding day at Derby Mickleover Hotel. From the get go Hannah Orchiston put us at ease and explained the whole process, she is clearly passionate about her job and it shows! The venue are also pretty flexible if you want to just dry hire the venue (which we did) but staff were still around helping to tidy the tables, tell people where to go and make sure myself and Corey had everything we needed. Zoe covered the chairs and used the most perfect coloured bows to match the colour scheme we had planned and the chairs looked so lovely for the ceremony and reception. The day went smoothly and I knew there was nothing to worry about! The DJ Andy was awesome and such great value for money too. Big thank you also to Kamal, who went out of his way to fetch our food, keep our drinks topped up and even had a bit of a dance with us. The room we stayed in was on the 3rd floor and was huge! The facilities were also very clean and the bed was comfortable. We enjoyed spending the day after having a cooked breakfast which was delicious and buffet style - followed by a couple of hours in the pool, sauna and steam room. Which we also thoroughly enjoyed. Location is perfect as it's just off the A38 and for us locally was very easy to get to- free parking for guests is also a win! There's plenty of space in the car park as well as an underground space for additional parking. Would highly recommend Derby Mickleover for any couples getting married as the whole team were so accommodating and professional. Thank you so much , from Mr & Mrs Hind x
I have been coming here for the pool, gym and sauna for the last 8 months and since the new year they have improved everything phenomenally, the service by Sam, Craig and Connor is amazing, incredibly personable and welcoming. I have been recommending this leisure centre to all my friends recently.
Thank you for a fantastic review! We are pleased to hear you will be reccomending our gym. Kind regards,
A great stay - thank you ! I'd definitely stay here again. Easy to find, parking close to the entrance, straightforward check in. Lovely sized room with plenty of space. Good lighting and desk. Fabulous breakfast.
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback! We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and found everything from the parking and check in to the room layout comfortable and convenient. We're especially pleased that you enjoyed our breakfast the team will be thrilled to hear your kind words. We truly appreciate you choosing to stay with us. Kind regards,
Let me start by saying this hotel is absolutely beautiful. The front foyer is incredible, full of character and gives the whole place a really warm, homely feel. The location is ideal - perfect for a quick trip into the city centre or for venturing further afield. With an easily accessible car park as well!!! I was initially a bit sceptical after reading some of the reviews about the Mickleover, but I'm so glad I didn't listen, as I will definitely be returning. The food was excellent. The breakfast menu is small, which I personally prefer as it makes everything feel fresher and there's still a good selection of pastries and cereals. The dinner menu offers something for everyone and everything I tried was just as fresh and enjoyable as the last. I really can't recommend the food highly enough. The staff truly make the experience. Everyone is so friendly and always happy to help with anything you need. There's a great atmosphere among the team - lots of laughter and a real sense of a close-knit working environment, which is lovely to see as a guest. The manager (Kamai i believe if his name) is polite, approachable and always up for a chat. It really feels like the hotel has turned things around, so full credit to him and his fantastic team. 10/10 – a wonderful stay. If you're looking for a cosy room, great food and a relaxing spa visit, I couldn't recommend this more. Thank you for a great stay
Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a warm and thoughtful review. We're absolutely delighted to hear that your stay exceeded expectations and that you found the hotel beautiful, cosy, and welcoming from the moment you stepped in. It's wonderful to know that our location, parking convenience, and dining options all contributed to an enjoyable stay. We're especially pleased that you appreciated the freshness and variety of our menus your kind words mean a lot to our kitchen team. Creating a friendly, relaxed atmosphere is something we're very proud of, and it's fantastic to hear that this came across throughout your visit. Kamal and the whole team will be thrilled to know they helped make your stay special. Thank you again for such generous feedback and for giving us the chance to show you the genuine experience here. Kind regards,
This is the second time we have stayed overnight at this hotel after having attended an annual function. The hotel is clean, tidy, NOT dated, has excellent spa facilities available to residential guests free of charge, The breakfast was excellent buffet style served in a light and airy breakfast room, with lots of choice from croissants to a full English. We attended a function of 100 attendees, the food served was of excellent quality, presented eloquently on the plate, served by staff who were well trained and delivered each course impressively quickly without fuss or fault. A quick mention of the restaurant manager who conducted the staff superbly. The bar prices are no more than you would expect in a hotel of this standard, featuring good quality wines and spirits but sadly lacking in a quality real ale / beer, being located so close to Burton on Trent I would have expected this to be a standard offering, unfortunately no decent bottled beer either, just euro fizz. This did not spoil our visit to this wonderful hotel though.
Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are pleased to hear you have returned to the hotel for a second year. May we kindly ask what date / event you attended please? We appreciate your comments and will pass your kind words onto the restaurant manager who looked after the event you attended. Hopefully we can welcome you for a third year and should you have any events of your own please contact our events team, they would love to host you. We will take on board your comments regarding ale/beer available on the bar. Thank you ever so much. Kind Regards, Hannah
We stayed here on the 14th march for our wedding anniversary, it was lovely from the minute we arrived , clean friendly and the food was amazing , thank you
Awful experience 1st room was full of flies 2nd room no beds made up 2nd room was above a wedding party so loud with noise and the room vibrating from the base of the music until early hours resulted in no sleep which was a real problem due to us being there for our young daughters trampoline competition at 8am the following morning No breakfast in the morning which we paid for due to either being told the wrong information at reception which was the restaurant opens at 6:45 or the staff running late and telling us on the morning that it will not be ready until 7:30 Was told a Manager would be notified and we would be contacted about our horrendous experience and we have heard nothing Would never book this hotel chain again
This used to be one of the top hotels in the area. Now it's in desperate need of a refurb. All the staff were great. I remember coming here in the early 90's and it's not seen a lick of paint since. Don't get me wrong for £50 for the night being able to use the pool hot tub and sauna it's good value. Would love to see a company take it over and bring it back to it's former glory. Bed was very comfortable and hot water. We didn't eat so cannot comment on the food
Stayed at the Mickleover Court this weekend whilst visiting family. I've used this hotel for over 20 years and although it needs a bit of TLC here and there the over all experience is always very good. In particular the staff on reception and breakfast are really outstanding, everyone is so friendly and always looking to help, this makes such a difference. Rooms are clean and beds really comfortable. The breakfast is great. Looks like the pool / gym has been refurbished and this is an added bonus especially if you have children with you. The hotel is just 200m from Mickleover which has recently seen several good bars and restaurants open. I'd recommend you give the Mickleover Court a try and see what you think.
Another very pleasant, comfortable stay, close enough to visit family! Our "go to" choice!
Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback. We're thrilled to hear you had such a great stay. We can't wait to welcome you back again soon. Kind regards,
A big thank you to Lee the Maintenance Manager who helped me get my car started again when the battery was flat after going to the pool with my friend. Very friendly and speedy support. Much faster than the road side rescue services. Great work Lee!
Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback. We're thrilled to hear you had such a great stay. We are so glad Lee was able to assist you, we will ensure the feedback is passed on to Lee. We can't wait to welcome you back again soon. Kind regards,
sam and lee on leisure reception were really helpful!
Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback. We're thrilled to hear you had such a great stay. We will ensure Sam and Lee are passed on the great feedback. We can't wait to welcome you back again soon. Kind regards,
I recently visited this venue after seeing the impressive renovation photos on the website. Unfortunately, my experience did not reflect what was advertised. While I was informed that renovations had taken place, I was told these were limited to the swimming pool ceiling only. The women's changing rooms were extremely disappointing — they felt unclean and very dated. I was particularly concerned when using the steam room, as another guest warned me to be careful of flies in the shower area, mentioning she had been bitten. This was quite alarming. On a positive note, the staff were lovely and friendly throughout my visit. I don't enjoy leaving negative feedback, but I feel it's important to share an honest experience so others are not misled by the website photos. I hope improvements are made to bring the facilities in line with expectations.
Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear about your experience which fell below the standards we aim to provide. Your comments are taken seriously and will be reviewed with the managment team. Just back from our 2nd visit to the Derby Mickleover Hotel which we booked on Great Little Breaks. WOW the 2nd visit was just as good as the 1st. Thank you to Zakira who made check in quick & easy and who was so personable, friendly & smiley ☺️ it was nice to put a face to the emails. Breakfast & evening meal were delish & the room was perfect, spotless & the bed sooo comfy. A hotel which we've recommended & will definitely return for a 3rd visit. Thanks Team 😊
Thank you for your fantastic feedback. We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay. We will ensure the feedback is passed on to Zakira and the team. We hope to welcome you back soon. Many Thanks
We often use Best Western hotels - and they are great. This was booked to visit a family party staying with 2 children (under 10) and we booked directly with Best Western partly using acquired points, this is where problems started. On arrival, reception couldn't deal with them, wouldn't accept them, asked for full payment - after explaining how ‘their' system worked - they accepted it ! Then, the room, and getting to it - common areas are messy, poorly decorated, dirty, damaged door handles on fire exits and water leaks near sockets. The ‘family' room, had stained carpets, filthy windows, a random selection of lights that worked and didn't, clothing items from previous guests left behind, a dodgy stained bath, loose toilet and an extractor fan that made an incredible noise and blew smoke into the bathroom from smokers outside who you could hear speaking until late at night! Thinking we'd at least get breakfast, the room used as a restaurant was full and we were asked to return in 20 mins - I suggested, why don't you schedule people when they check in as many hotels do ‘oh we didn't think of that' With two hungry children we left - however before we did, I asked to speak to a manager - none were available ! I asked that one call me - nothing. Only an offer, you could call us after complaining to Best Westen. The hotel needs closing, refurbishing and staff retraining before they reopen - and to add to it, they had a Fawlty Towers weekend on - how appropriate, if only Basil had been in charge it may have been better.
Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear about your experience which fell below the standards we aim to provide. Your comments are taken seriously and will be reviewed with the managment team. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and apologise for the inconvenience caused to you and your family. Kind regards,
We stayed 3 nights over Christmas. On arrival we were directed to our room, there was no one to help us dispite being on the 3rd floor and my partner has mobilty problems. There is only one lift working, and that was the slowest lift in the world. We were told afternoon tea was being served but but finished at 16.00 - check in 15.00 By the time we had taken our bags up and come back down, there was very little left. We booked a suite, the room we had was large with a seperate lounge area. The heating in the bedroom wasn't working so we had to have a blow heater in the room. The shower hadn't been fitted correctly. The bed was 2 single beds pushed together, but instead of a zip and link mattress a standard double was placed on the bed frame. The food wasn't the best, one night I asked for a strawberry sundae - strawberry ice cream and squirty cream is not a strawberry sundae! Chrismas lunch was medioca - frozen vegetables and roast potatoes, small portion, 1 /2 a carrot and 1/4 parsnip! The smallest portion of chrismas pudding. We went to the bar on the 27th in the day time and asked for a hot drink, but they don't serve hot drinks from the bar, (the hot drink machine in reception was "out of order waiting pepair") from check-in to check-out. The lady behind the bar directed us to reception, who said they would have to ask in the Gym (which was also closed) - so no hot drink. We complained to the manager Ash on the 27th about our room, and he gave us a 10% refund off our bill but to be honest we should have asked for more. The staff were mostly good - Mo was lovely and couldn't do enough, also the housekeeping staff, but I can't remember their names.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry that several aspects of your day did not meet your expectations. Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused and thank you for raiding your concern with our manager. Your feedback has been noted and will be used to support ongoing improvements. Kind regards,
Staying for a colleagues funeral, a time to meet up with friends. Hotel was recommended, comfortable newish but if you want a drink after 11pm .Bring your own.
Thank you for your review and feeback. Your feedback is very imoortant to us and i will ensure to pass onto the relevent deparments. Kind regards,
Myself, husband and one of our sons went for Christmas Day lunch and were thoroughly disappointed throughout from arrival to departure. Tables in reception area were not cleared and we had to move dirty glasses to find a place to sit. We were neither offered nor directed to the welcome drink which was part of the menu. We never did get it. There was no Christmas ambience and we felt decorations were minimal. Service in the dining room was very poor and we had to ask for our table to be cleared twice between courses. The food was minimal and of poor quality. We didn't even wait for the coffee as we felt we would enjoy it more at home. As soon as our son got home he sent an email of complaint and to be fair we were refunded approximately a third of the cost. For me it was not just about the money it was about ruined memories of positive family time. My husband is 94 and particularly wanted to go out for what he hoped would be a special occasion. Sadly this was not the case, and no amount of money can put that right.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I am truly sorry that your Christmas Day experience fell below expectations and it had impacted what should have been a special family occasion. While I appreciate that a partial refund was provided, I fully understand your point that this was about the experience and the memories, not the money. Please accept my sincere apologies, particularly given the importance of the day for your husband. Kind regards,
We had Christmas Dinner here for the 3rd time but definitely the last. Communication was poor following the booking, had to chase payment, menu choices, etc. On the day, they were let down by very poor service. We had to ask for drinks, were not offered bread which was hit and miss for all tables, had a wait of 50 minutes between starter and main meal, etc. No communication from the serving staff - it was like a drop and run scenario! We waited over 30 minutes for the dessert dishes to be cleared, and left without the Tea/Coffee included in the price. Others also did, with one couple called back to their table as they left after waiting for coffee which arrived as they were on their way out. There was no management/ direction, with tables being served out of order and no organisation. Some of the staff so obviously did not want to be there. We gave our thoughts to who we thought was the head waiter on the way out.
Thank you for your feedback. I am very sorry to hear about your experience and the lack of communication, service, and organisation throughout your Christmas Dinner. This is not the standard we aim to deliver. Your comments have been shared with the management team and will be used to review our planning, staffing, and service delivery to ensure improvements are made. Kind regards,
Attended the hotel for the 3 day New Year break. Absolutely brilliant. We attended last year and returned this new year. Staff friendly and attentive. Upgraded to an executive room. Super kingsize bed. Sofa and TV area. Clean and comfortable. Food was excellent. With a good choice. New years eve gala dinner exceptional, with a free bar. Alan and his staff looked after us well.
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear you had a brilliant New Year break and that you chose to return this year. I will be sure to pass your kind comments on to Alim and the team. We hope to welcome you back again soon. Kind regards,
This is a difficult review to write as this hotel has been a firm family go- to for over 20 years, so it hits hard having to write such a negative review influenced by the recent stay my family member had over Christmas. Like every year members of my family stay at Mickleover Court, there are always one or two snags that let it down but it is always genuinely a positive stay. However on this occasion too many things happened and has left each one of us vowing to never return. Before my grandmother even arrived the service received was nothing like we'd ever experienced before here. They tried to charge her for the Christmas meals on top of the stay, twice. After arguing back and forth and getting nowhere we decided to leave it and see what happened on check in. On arrival my grandmother was upgraded to a suite “due to her being a regular guest”- more like they'd realised their mistake and wanted to make it right. The suite on first inspection was beautiful, 2 separate bedrooms and a large bathroom with a bath and shower. This is where the pleasantries end unfortunately. The room remained cold throughout the stay as the air con didn't work, in fact it was so cold she had to take the quilt off the spare bed and sit with it wrapped around her in order to stay warm. The knobs in the shower didn't turn so she was unable to use the shower during her stay. The first night my grandmother had friends joining her for a meal, they all said how lovely the food was, however when it came to paying the bill they added on my grandmother's food (she was staying on a package that included all meals!) she queried this and this was argued about by 2 different members of staff, who insisted she must pay, so not wanting to cause a scene or worrying she'd perhaps made a mistake she paid. The next morning the money was returned to her account and an apology issued from a manager, I believe. Throughout my grandmothers stay it seemed to be a reoccurring theme that nobody seemed to know what they were doing as there was simply no communication between departments. For example we'd booked and paid in advance for breakfast for some family to visit and we'd even confirmed this at check in the day before, however walking into the restaurant the next day, the manager seemed unaware of our booking and said “yea I have you here Mrs ***, just go and sit down at any table”, it was only when we questioned this and told him we'd booked table for 8 that he actually seemed to realise but still told us to just sit anywhere. Luckily there were 2 tables of 4 next to each other at the back so we chose to sit there but had to push them together ourselves, clearly nobody had passed on the info to the restaurant and I dread to think what would happen if there were more of us! The next issue faced was at Christmas dinner, my brother and his wife visited to have Christmas dinner, he said it was diabolical. First they brought the wrong order out, twice! Then when the correct orders did arrive it was appalling portion sizes. A stuffing ball not much bigger than a marble, 2 perfectly circular slices of processed, formed turkey, 7 Brussels, 1 section of carrot (julienne style) and the same for parsnip and some gravy, definitely not worth the £80 pp paid. Something I found very strange, was when I went to visit later on that day, we were sitting having a drink together in the lobby when a manager raced over, put an arm around my grandmother and proceeded to tell me “we're friends” before turning to my grandmother and saying “you owe money for drinks do you want them adding to your room bill or do you want to pay now?” She asked for them to be added to her overall room bill to which he replied that he didn't have access to do this on the system? Very strange considering he just gave her that choice, however she went to the bar and settled the bill. Later that night she came down for the evening buffet and was met by the same manager who said before she even had time to speak “would you like me to escort you to pay your drinks bill from earlier?” She was absolutely appalled, she told him she had paid and showed him the receipt. I am disgusted she was treated this way especially as someone who has stayed at this hotel atleast twice a year for the past 25 years. To top things off the pool was closed, the once beautiful, grand glass lift is STILL out of order (5 years now I believe, maybe longer!) and there are a lot of signs of wear an tear throughout this once decadent hotel. When you start to lose your bread and butter customers then that is the time things need to change and quickly! For the first time in 25 years my grandmother said that next year she won't be staying here, and will not be returning ever again, it is so sad that this tradition has come to an abrupt end due to the careless attitude, neglect of the hotel and general lack of care.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I am genuinely sorry to hear about your grandmother's experience and how far it fell below the standard you have come to expect from us over many years. Also, that your grandmother will not be returning to us this Christmas. This is clearly not the level of service, care, or communication we aim to provide, particularly during such an important family tradition. Your comments have been shared with senior management for full review, as we take this feedback extremely seriously. Kind regards,
We looked forward to returning to this hotel for a second Christmas break. Unfortunately, our room was cold, staff did provide an additional heater which helped. Apparently the heating was temperamental in this area of the hotel. The room was very tired with black mould in patches around the bath. It felt like we were in an annexe and the corridor had peeling wallpaper and was icy cold too. On a positive note, the staff are amazing and the food was great and plentiful. The entertainment was very good. Unless this hotel has a major refurb and overhaul of its heating we will not be going back and could not recommend to friends in its current state. Such a shame as the staff work so hard to ensure everyone has a good time.
Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear about the issues with the room condition and heating during your stay. Your comments regarding maintenance have been shared with the relevant teams for review. I'm pleased to hear that you found our staff, food, and entertainment to be enjoyable, and thank you for recognising the team's efforts. Kind regards,
We spent Christmas 2025 in this hotel The staff were beyond excellent and the food far beyond any expectations. The room was clean and well presented. The only problem was the air con but I guess that was operator error ! The whole experience was first class and nothing too much too oblige ! I have ,in my career stayed in many hotels, both business and pleasure but never before treated so well . Thanks guys and hope see you again Les and Barbara
I would like to let you know how very disappointed we are with Derby Mickleover Hotel, 28 of our family booked and paid for the Christmas,New Year party on Saturday 3rd January at the hotel a while back, family were coming from far and wide to be there, booked hotels on booking.com and travel. Two ladies from the events team at the hotel, Hannah & Zoe phoned up earlier to say they were cancelling the evening due to not enough people going, we said that our 28 family would make it a lovely evening, but Hannah and Zoe were not very apologetic at all and just said they would give us a separate room but would be charging a lot more for drinks etc! This is unexceptable, and only 10 days before the event, I would never stay at this hotel again and an extremely disappointed at the way our family have been treated. And what made it worse is that Hannah did not apologise and then put the phone down! What a way to treat people!!!! We had our annual Xmas party here this year, 23 of us, we had welcome drinks and canapes, then were called into our table where we had a lovely 3 course meal, and unlimited wine and beer, it literally kept coming! such a great night, we ate, drank and danced the night away, the food was delicious, the staff were fabulous, the photo booth was a great touch, Hannah was our point of contact and was super helpful, but all of the staff were great, for £69 each it was a bargain, I think I drank that in wine alone! we will hopefully be back next year, well done guys and thank you x
Visited this evening for our annual works night out - big mistake. Deafening music on arrival (I use the term loosely). The free drinks on arrival were without choice - either you wanted the one thing they offered or went without - we did the latter. We were herded into the dining area and had to wait a long time for the starters to come out and even longer for the main course. Most of us had gone for the Turkey Roast dinner. It was abysmal, rock hard Brussel sprouts, overdone carrot, awful roast potatoes with a piece of stuffing that you needed a magnifying glass to spot and Turkey that seemed as though it had been prepared a couple of years ago. Gravy was pretty much non existent. I get that it is difficult to cater for a large group of people but don't charge extortionate rates and serve sub standard stuff that took for ever to bring out. Add to the equation unlimited awful wine which resulted in the ‘youngsters' behaving as though their average age was 10 lowering the tone even lower which I didn't think was possible. My advice is give it a miss and maybe go somewhere more classy like McDonald's.
Having stayed in BW hotels before, I was not expecting too much. Staying for one night only, and at a remarkably cheap price, we decided to give it a go. What a great surprise. Despite what some others have implied, the hotel was clean, well maintained and modern. Without being told at check in, we found our rooom had been upgraded, always a nice surprise. Other than the reception staff - efficient, but unsmiling - we found all the staff fiendly and helpful. A further surprise was that our room included four vouchers for free drinks at the bar; I believve it was in exchange for limited housekeeping? At that rate, our room was virtually free? The restaurant was fine, with an adequate menu, and the food very good. Breakfast next morning was fine, though understandably the kitchen struggled to keep up with demand, two coach parties staying in the hotel, almost 90 people, all arriving at almost the same time. No criticism of the staff here, who did their best to ensure the buffet remained stocked. WE travel to Derby a few times a year and have always struggled to find somewhere to stay at a reasonable price, and usually end up in a dispiriting Premier Inn or Travelodge. WE've now found our "go to" overnight stopping place and thoroughly recommend the hotel.
Being a party of appox 30 we were booked in for the weekend, and had asked for our Dinner at 6.30pm , On a comfort break, our driver rang a head to give out eta, she was then told our dinner would be 8pm, after telling them no, she was told 7pm, On our arrival we were then told it would be 8pm as they had problems with the cookers !!! but the following night would be 6.30. (again it was 8pm ) they gave us a couple of drinks vouchers as an apology, On entering dining room, we found several partys, Appox 300 people, and we were all served at the same time, the following night was same menu but with chicken instead of Turkey, also asked for a brown roll, Their were none !! Again another full and cramped Dining room. My Room had not been cleaned properly as I found money on the floor and dirty marks around the sink, One drawer was also missing from the unit in room . The swimming pool was out of use, As I read other Reviews, it appears it as been on going for several months, I have waited till now to write this review, as we were told we would be sent an email for a review by the lady who came out to wish a safe journey , and no one as had one!! I wonder why ?
As a venue looked lovely in the foyer foe Xmas, dazzling infact, but rooms look dated and in other rooms alongside ours the sliding doors were broken. Lack of bar staff very few smiling faces. Eparty meal fantastic and those staff friendly
Colleen, paige, carly, jake, zakira and jules, especially have been lovely every time we have stayed here. Going above and beyond to make us feel at home and have a lovely conversation every time I saw them.
Great hotel, fantastic service and staff are absolutely lovely and welcoming. Worth mentioning: Colleen, Paige, Jake, Carly, Zakira. Absolutely fantastic staff! Would recommend staying here.
Tonight was our first night here and had booked a table in the restaurant for dinner. Our waitress Theresa was friendly and extremely helpful with not just the service but making us feel welcome, talking about family and other experiences. Well worth the vist and Theresa is a credit to the hotel. They only negative is we won't get to see here again before our visit ends.
The staff at this hotel are the best ever! They are so understanding and enthusiastic and will do anything to help - nothing is too much trouble and a special mention and thanks needs to be conveyed to Zakira, Alim, Colleen, Theresa, and Carly. The hotel itself is in a great location, and we were able to visit many areas of the Peak District during our stay. The food was also amazing and we enjoyed both breakfast and dinner for 4 nights. We can honestly say we had an amazing time and we can't wait to return.
Many issues with this hotel. We were holding a family wedding gathering nearby so lots attendees booked here. Calls to the hotel go unanswered and plenty of our party had tried over several weeks. Once in our room we found the carpet threadbare, the bathroom had black mould and the sink took an age to drain. The pool is closed and the restaurant has dirty covers on the soft back benches. There was a fire alarm and evacuation in the hotel whilst we were in the midst of dressing for the wedding. We had to grab our clothes and exit from the second floor using stairs. Both my self and wife have mobility issues and she has terminal cancer. I stumbled on the stairs and exacerbated an existing injury, the result being having to abandon the wearing of dress shoes, and, being the father of the bride, it comprised how my outfit felt. The staff were unapologetic to me, saying only that they had to comply with regulations. I have trained as a fire marshal and we always notified people in the building that a test would take place within a certain timeframe, instead they induced panic. The breakfast was as good as any and staff attentive, after the wedding we returned to the hotel and had to go looking for someone to provide reception service, effectively anyone could have come into the hotel unobserved, no security. Rooms in this hotel are not cheap, the Premier Inn close by is much better value. This is the third BW hotel we have stayed in since April and will probably be our last, I will choose much more carefully in future.
We had an amazing party at Mickleover Court Hotel celebrating a big birthday 🎂🎊🎈🍾 The room looked amazing, the food was wonderful and the DJ was awesome. We didn't want the evening to end. Thanks to Hamnah, Amil, Andy and the team.
Thank you for your kind words, it was a pleasure to host your party. Thrilled you had a wonderful time and that everything was as you wanted it. We will pass your comments on to the team and the DJ. We hope to welcome you back to Mickleover Hotel again for more special occasions to come.
Was looking forward to a night away with my husband, but on ringing to check what time the pool was open till was told that is not usable at the moment, i understand that this has been the case for quite some time sadly. Wont be going due to this as this would of been part of our night away. Why Advertise the pool if it isnt being used? Also on reading it only lists continental breakfast not full english.
We booked a function room in August for a birthday party and the process from booking enquiry to the day went really smoothly thanks to Hannah. I look forward to booking again soon, a quality venue and quality service
Very tired hotel, front door doesnt work, good start when you arrive, door in the room to get on the balcony sealed shut for safety reasons, no windows so no way of getting fresh air into the room, so woke up with blocked nose and rough throat due to the air con. Pool was shut but the hotel still charged full price. The room was very tired, as was the whole hotel. Staff were good though, and so was the food, but brace yourself for the bar prices!
Held our wedding reception here in August following change of date. Considering the short notice the help and support we were given by Hannah Orchiston was fantastic. The reception was lovely with all the details taken care of for us on the day, lovely decor and personalised touches. Highlight was the confetti drop which made for a really special moment and pictures. Would definitely recommend the venue and service which we were given, it made what could have been a very stressful day much smoother and relaxing for us both.
Great night in the Morley Suite. Food lovely and plenty of it. Staff very helpful in the day and the evening itself. Big shout out to Hannah who went above and beyond to make sure we had the night we wanted. Andy the DJ also great-played a good set and got us all dancing. Would definitely recommend. Thank you.
We booked a suite for a private function which we had been planning with Hannah for the last few months and it was fantastic. Everything we had asked for and more, she and the team did an amazing job and worked with myself all the way through! Couldn't recommend Mickleover Hotel better, we will be back! Thanks team!
Thank you for choosing Derby Mickleover Hotel as the venue for your private function. We loved hosting you and pleased to hear you had a wonderful event. Your kind words will be passed to Hannah, thank you. See you again next year!
Really good anniversary meal with family & friends. Great 3 course meal and room facilities. Thanks to Hannah for helping us organise at quite short notice.
Hannah has provided fantastic customer service while assisting us with booking training facilities at the hotel. Nothing has been too much trouble, and every interaction has been friendly, prompt, and helpful. Thank you, Hannah, for your support, it's been a pleasure working with you!
Thank you for your feedback and generous words. Hannah has said it has been a pleasure working with you and hope that we can work together on many more bookings to come. Kind regards,
We attended the hotel for a Fawlty Towers Exprience which was alot of fun. Afternoon tea and evening meal was lovely. Mention to Kobi on the bar, very friendly and helpful. Also Emma on reception who has since helped us locate lost property and kindly kept us upto date. Hoping to stay again soon.
Thank you for your lovely review! We're thrilled you enjoyed the Fawlty Towers Experience, afternoon tea, and evening meal. Your kind words about our staff will be passed along – they will be so pleased to know they made a positive impression. We're glad we could assist with your lost property and keep you updated. We look forward to welcoming you back for another enjoyable stay soon. Kind regards,
Very pleased with our stay here at this Best Western hotel. We opted for this hotel as a cheap alternative for Alton Towers and served perfectly if you dont mind a 40 minute drive between them. The room was spacious and beds comfortable. Decor dated but ample storage provided. Rooms on level two provided a nice view across the Derbyshire countryside. Complimentary bathroom products smelt nice (shampoo/shower gel/handwash). TV/hairdryer/biscuits/tea & coffee provided. We chose this hotel as the price included access to the pool & sauna but unfortunately the pool was closed on our visit. The hotel was very clean & welcoming with ample complimentary parking for guests. Closeby are restaurants and shops just a short drive away. I made use of the charity book sale in reception. I would recommend this hotel.
Thank you for sharing your feedback! We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay, and appreciated the little touches such as the bathroom amenities and charity book sale. We're sorry the pool was closed during your visit and appreciate your understanding. It's great to know that you would recommend us to others. We look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit to the area. Kind regards,
We recently celebrated my daughter's 21st birthday at this venue and couldn't have asked for a better experience. The staff were extremely helpful, the venue itself was spotless, and everything ran smoothly from start to finish. The duty managers were absolutely brilliant – nothing was ever too much trouble, and they went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect on the night. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone planning a special occasion. Speak to Hannah she is wonderful.
Thank you for your kind words, we loved hosting your party. We hope to welcome you back to Mickleover Hotel again for more special occasions to come. Kind Regards,
I recently had my wedding reception here at Derby Court. Zoe and the team were amazing and did everything they could to help make our day special. The room layout was just as I imagined and the buffet food we opted for went down a treat. The DJ from the hotel played exactly what we asked for and the dance floor wasn't empty all night ! My suite was lovely and spacious enough for 10 of us plus 4 professionals to get ready in ! I got married at the local church and Zoe even ensured I had an umbrella and dry route to the car ! All our guests enjoyed their stay and the spa facilities available. We will deffo be back !
Thank you so much for your extremely lovely comments. We strive to achieve the perfect experience for our guests, it was an absolute pleasure to be part of your special day with the help of Ava as well, who shone all day. Please don't be strangers our front door is always open to our friends and if we can help with anything in the future I would be delighted to help. All the very best for the future. Kind regards,
Lovely gym facilities and pool. Had to leave the gym because the morning opening at 6:45 is too late and my work changed. If they'd open at 6am - it would be great and could go back.Shame I had to leave. Lovely staff too. Other people in the local area said they would go too if it opened at 6am, let's you do an hour exercise, then get ready for work.
Thank you for your feedback! We are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us, I will mention your comments about a 6am open to our leisure manager. Thank you for the mention of our staff it is lively to see them get recognition. Kind regards,
Booked a two night stay in this hotel SOLELY because of the pool even though it meant getting taxis in and out of town, thus extra cost, on arrival we were told the pool was closed due to a new roof being fitted. We had only booked the previous week but were not told this at the time of booking. We were given 4 drinks tokens but this did not compensate for lack of pool. Booked a king room but were allocated a classic double, this was rectified quickly when pointed out. Went to our room and wanted to order room service. There was no menu in the room (or any information about anything) we rang reception and they bought a menu up. We ordered room service but then they rang us back and told us we had ordered from an old menu. They started to read the new menu over the phone and I asked if they could bring us the new menu, which they did, begrudgingly. Ordered new food and by this time as a type 1 diabetic was having a low sugar episode as had already taken insulin based on first order. When I mentioned this they said the food would probably be a long time due to other orders before us and suggested I came downstairs to collect it when it was ready rather than waiting for someone to bring it, showing no understanding of how a sugar low affects someone. I did make it down to get a coke (and also asked for a bottled water but they didn't have any) I was literally shaking and in tears at the bar but no one asked if I was ok. We had had a very difficult journey to the hotel on a national express which ran out of petrol, which, whilst nothing to do with the hotel, meant that my routine and sugars were already disrupted, so I was very stressed and clearly unwell. On the second night ( having made sure we had lots of snacks we rang for room service to be told they did not have enough staff., so we ordered through Deliveroo! Despite large room would not come back.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to read about your experience and the distress caused during your stay. We apologise that the pool closure was not communicated prior to your arrival. We are also very sorry for the challenges you faced with room service. We appreciate you highlighting these concerns and will review our procedures with the team to ensure we provide more proactive support and clear communication in the future. We are pleased to hear that your room allocation was rectified promptly, but we sincerely regret that your overall stay did not meet expectations. Kind regards,
We recently got married here at the end of June. Our wedding was organised by Hannah, everything went to plan and she was helpful in sorting everything out for us for the day. She even managed to upgrade the room for us due to another cancellation. Food was delish and the in house dj was a hit all night! The rooms were a bit dated but overall good. Special mention : (unfortunately I didn't catch her name) but there was a blonde lady with short hair, and she couldn't do enough for us. Anything we requested, such as extra chairs, microphone for speeches, extra food in the evening, she sorted it for us with no hassle. Everyone mentioned how accommodating she was and she really did make a big difference to the evening.
Thank you for your kind words. Many congratulations to you both, we loved hosting you and wish you a happy and healthy marriage for years to come. All the best and thank you for choosing Derby Mickleover Hotel to be a part of your special day. Kind regards,
Attended friends 50th. Wedding Anniversary celebration on the evening of 16th, August, The occasion was very well organised with a delightful buffet and music through the evening, Well done to the events organiser who did a great job.
Good afternoon, Thank you for your kind words. We hope you thoroughly enjoyed your friend's party. We hope to welcome you back to Mickleover Hotel again and hopefully host your own future celebrations here with us. Kind Regards
We've stayed here before, found it to be a really pleasant hotel, rooms are good size, all the usual items you need in the room - tea, coffee etc etc. We needed to stay this time with our new puppy, so when we saw it allowed pets, even better. Its always gong to be awkward with a small puppy, but there were a few issues with our stay concerning this. 1. The first issue was taking the puppy for a walk. Not an issue in itself as thre is a lot of grass/green areas. The issue is where do the poo bags go? There are no bins in the car park (other than the multitude of bins with cigarette stubs in, that were full to overflowing and were not bins for anything else), there are no bins by the roadside, in fact I was advised to use the hotel bins around the back, but these were only shown as glass, cardboard or food waste bins, nothing for general waste. I used one that looked like it had bits of everything that others had been undecided on too. The closest public bins I found were near the pub about half a mile down the road. For a green area, and presumably an area where a lot of dogs visit, its very strange not to have bins dotted everywhere. 2. Breakfast was the next issue. Dogs are not allowed in the Restaurant. On the first morning, both my wife & I had to sit in Reception, at the very low tables, watching everyone else go into the restaurant. They couldn't even find a dog bowl for water. I find this very frustrating as my dog, even at a young age, is much cleaner than most of the children & some of the adults in there. On the second morning we were allowed to walk through the restaurant and sit outside at a proper height table, although the issue we had there was being plagued by wasps. I have absolutely no issue with any of the staff, they couldn't be more helpful & we would stay here again (although maybe not have breakfast here), but as more and more places accept animals and quite a lot of us live with animals, I really don't see an issue with a puppy curling up under the table in the restaurant area.
Thank you for sharing your feedback and for returning to stay with us. We're delighted to hear that you find our hotel pleasant, comfortable, and that our team were able to make you feel welcome. We appreciate your comments regarding the challenges you faced while travelling with your puppy. We understand how important it is to have suitable facilities when staying with pets, and your observations about waste bins and breakfast arrangements are very helpful. While our current policies mean pets aren't permitted in the restaurant itself, we are always looking at ways to make stays more enjoyable for our guests who travel with animals, and your suggestions will certainly be taken into consideration. We're pleased to know you would choose to stay with us again, and we hope to welcome you back soon for another enjoyable visit Kind regrds,

Excellent hotel, great location, especially if you know your way around Derby. Hotel staff were fabulous, soo friendly and welcoming. Room was clean and spacious. Breakfast was great, service was quick, everything you could want. Ate at restaurant one evening and it was lovely. Very relaxing experience, pool was a lovely bonus. Price was fantastic too. Will be booking again soon

Visited in August2025 on coach holiday. One of a group widows/widowers. Supplement for single occupancy. Rooms were large clean and tidy.Well equipped but no fridge or safe in my room. Welcome individually controlled as no access to balcony and no opening window. One of the two lifts was not working. Staff very helpful and service in restaurant to a high standard. Food varied from excellent to poor. Overall amenities good and would visit again.
Brilliant venue and very friendly staff. Made my birthday party a wonderful night. Would recommend this venue for your parties
Happy with hospitality with swimming, breakfast and room service. Helpful staff. Will recommend this hotel to all my friends and family.
We held our golden wedding party at the hotel. It was efficiently organised by Hannah Orchiston and the DJ Andy Gardner was also excellent. Many people commented on how good the food was especially the labeling for vegan and gluten free guests. Many thanks to all the staff who helped. We had a pleasant room and enjoyed the breakfast the next morning.
With an associate nurse, my charity, me&dee, has set up a child bereavement group called Guiding Stars. This is very sensitive to handle, and to have just right for those attending from the moment they park their car, are met by receptionists, to how we use the room for lay out and refreshments until we leave. The care and empathy to allow us to hold our monthly group meetings is second to none. All staff are so appreciated. A special mention to Hannah Orchiston, Meetings & Events Sales Co-ordinator who has been extremely patient and understanding while we have switched rooms, times - all to make the group work in the best way possible. We have also cancelled a previous venue booked for our Christmas Party for families facing short and uncertain futures together through our correspondence with Hannah and a coming together of making this work for both parties.
My husband and I celebrated our ruby wedding at Mickleover Hotel. A few of us stayed over everything was excellent. We had a 3 course Sunday lunch served in the Morley suite which was excellent. The room was set out beautifully with white tablecloths and seat covers with red bows, we provided extra decorations with no problem setting them up. This was all made possible by Hannahs excellent organisation with the assistance of Mary ,Carly, Chris and the brilliant waiting on staff sorry I dont know all your names thank you Debbie and David Howard.
We had an amazing party in the Morley Suite at Mickleover Hotel. The venue was perfect, and everything ran smoothly thanks to Hannah, who was incredibly organised, friendly, and helpful throughout. Her hospitality really made the day special. The staff were great, and the service was excellent. Highly recommend for any event!
Thank you very much for your kind words. We loved hosting this special occasion for you, your family, and friends. We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel soon. Many congratulations on your graduation once again, thank you for choosing Derby Mickleover. Kind regards, Hannah
There was a group of us that travelled down to this hotel at the end of June, we had a bit of a bumpy start at the beginning when we arrived, but after that was sorted we had a great time. The Hotel was lovely, the rooms were very spacious, there was a swimming pool and facilities that was great as it was a really hot weekend. The dining room was also spacious and the food lovely, breakfast was self service, but so many things to choose from. There was also a seating area outside which was a lovely place to sit in the evening. The staff overall were very helpful and kind, a thank you to Alim the restaurant manager. Also can I personally thank Hannah Orchiston from group bookings who made the booking experience a pleasure and then meeting her at the Hotel that weekend was just great, a big thank you Hannah from myself and our group for being so helpful. Lastly can I thank Ash the General Manager of the Hotel for being so kind to our group, it was very much appreciated. I would recommend this Hotel as it's very comfortable and you can so relax in it.
Thank you so much for your lovely review! We're thrilled you and your group had a great stay and service. Hannah, Alim, and Ash will be delighted to hear your kind words. We hope to welcome you back soon! Kind regards,
I checked in about 7.45 on Tuesday night and running late for a meal with my team, dumped my bags in room 415 and went straight out. Returning after 10.30 and feeling under the weather, I want to go straight to sleep and start to get ready. One of the first steps is to draw the curtains but... The window is in two parts, the main window and to its left a diagonal section, like a half-bay window. As per the attached pictures, the curtain rail ends at the main part and does not cover the diagonal. But this can't be, can it? Surely one of the basic premises of any hotel is to help its guests get a good night's sleep, surely they can't provide only half a curtain rail, allowing light to stream in early on a summer's morning? So I spend the next 20 minutes ensuring I'm not missing anything and wondering if I'm being a complete moron. I consider asking for a room change, but by now I just want to get to sleep and if they can't provide the most basic of hotel facilities in this room, would asking for another in which the curtains actually cover the window get me anywhere? I manage to pin the curtain to the wall using a chair to cover the lower part of the window, but the top part is no better and it should not be up to me to do this in the first place. I manage to stay asleep until c.4.45 but after that the room is too light to get back to sleep. In the morning I speak to one of the hotel managers about this. Her first response is "thank you for letting us know, if we're not told about these things we can't do anything about it". I'm struggling to understand A) how this can happen in the first place, and B) how it's not been reported before. I then point out that I had a rather poor night's sleep and I'm told that something will be taken off my company's bill. The invoice came through yesterday. A whopping £14.20, or 10%, off - so that makes £128 for a bad night's sleep. Not good enough.
Thank you for your review, and I'm sorry for the inconvenience caused by the curtain issue. We appreciate you bringing it to our attention. We hope to welcome you back for a better experience next time. Kind regards,
I really don't enjoy leaving bad reviews, bit this hotel doesn't deserve more than a 1 star. They advertise themselves as 4 star....well, maybe they were in the 1970's! It's very tired...very. Needs a complete overhaul. I am relieved that it didn't cost much to stay here. Warning: if you're taller than 5'3" then you won't fit under the fixed shower head in the bath.
Dear bumblebee808, Thank you for your review, which we were disappointed to receive. We will certainly take on-board your comments, and ensure that we divert our focuses to the relevant areas. We do hope that this doesn't deter you from visiting us again in the future. warm regards Ash
At last they have put the fuses back in the bathroom towel rails. Nice and warm now. Pity the shower only got to tepid on the hottest setting. No doubt someone scalded themselves and now spoilt it for everyone else by complaining. Otherwise just the same as last time we visited - good clean hotel with good facilities - a little understaffed in the breakfast room on Sat due to a conference diverting staff to the conference centre. Good underground car park which is warm and dry - if only it had EV charging points.....
Dear AlanKit, Thank you for your feedback, and glad to hear that you had a pleasurable stay. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Warm regards Ash
I have stayed here before and liked it, but it's seems to be a bit tired and not as good. Room - it was ok, a decent size over looking the car park , not enough tea bags, excellent shower, could not get the A/C to work properly. Parking- good parking and free including under the hotel itself Breakfast- this was poor, the eggs like rubber and we stayed there for 3 nights and they were like that 3 times. Hash browns overcooked and beans also. Staff- the staff were excellent, special mention for the Irish lady and Spanish guy at breakfast they were both attentive and very good. A credit to the hotel. Swimming pool- it was adequate and clean but needs a refurbishment
Dear SteveN362, Thank you for you feedback following your recent stay. Whilst your stay was adequate from your comments, please be assured that we will take on-board your comments constructively with the relevant Heads of Departments. We hope that we are able to welcome you back to our hotel in the future. Warm regards Ash
I booked this place for a two night stay specifically because it had a gym and pool; however on the second day the pool was closed because they had put too much chlorine in it. They gave me a small discount off my stay but that hardly compensates for the fact that had I known I'd have stayed somewhere else.
Dear Brighton9, Thank you for your review, which we were naturally disappointed to receive. As I am sure that you can appreciate, the health & safety of our Guests and Employees has always been paramount to our hotel, and on this occasion, the Leisure Team took the relevant calculated decision with this in mind- which we fully support. I am glad to hear that you were compensated and genuinely do hope that this doesn't deter you from visiting us again in the future. Warm regards Ash
Our executive room was well specified and roomy. The bathroom was very good. Staff were excellent and tended to our needs. This included:extra toiletries, fruit tea (as my wife does not have caffeine). A relaxing stay at this Spa hotel.
Dear EthanHuntMI, Thank you for your lovely review and it sounds like you both had a really pleasant stay. I look forward to sharing your comments with all of the Team involved. We hope that we have the pleasure of welcoming you back soon. Warm regards Ash
