Comfortable beds, clean room with everything we needed. Easy access with free parking and a nice pool. Very friendly staff and a simple, but nice breakfast. We left for one night for another occasion and were never in doubt about coming back for the rest of our stay here in Santa Cruz.
Checked in after a 12-hour drive and was charged $259 (293 including tax) for this hellhole of a room. Apparently, they are doing some upgrades but instead of not putting guests in there until they're done, they're taking advantage of people wanting to stay in Santa Cruz on a Saturday night. Features of Room 111: grille on a/c bent, drapes not hung properly, filthy platform to bed, no washcloths and one very limp hand towel, floors that were stained and broken, graffiti on front of refrigerator, hair in the shower drain and dirty/moldy shower, and a COCKROACH! We tried to get washcloths from the office but they closed and locked up after we checked in. When we complained the next morning, we were asked if we wanted another room. I told her this was a "one and done" and we'd never stay there again, and to cancel the rest of our stay. Can you imagine putting a guest who is staying a week in a room like this?
The bed was actually very comfortable. My husband and I only needed it for one night since repairs were being done on our house. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Laura recommended a place to eat within walking distance that was very good.
The hotel rooms for both my family and the friends that we traveled with were both unacceptable dirty and unmanaged with a number of broken, dirty, and unsanitary items. The refrigerator was filthy it had tissue, hair, and a pool of standing water at the bottom with a broken pen floating in it. When the staff (women in plain clothes) came to fix the TV which wasn't working she used one of the rooms hand towels to wipe it down as she said they didn't have cleaning supplies ( I asked for them telling her I would be willing to clean down the room myself if she could send over the supplies) she dipped the towel in the dirty water at the bottom and proceeded to wipe down the refrigerator, microwave, and dresser. Keep in mind there were only 2 hand towels in the room and she never brought more each time I asked I was told they were short on towels and that they were being washed. Room had no smoke detector, door was broken, ironing board was broken into 3 pieces and was unusable, lights were falling out of the ceiling, blankets had cigarette burns and what appeared to be some type of glue stuck all over them. This stay was our first at this location the stress was very draining and not our normal Best Western experience.
I had to contact corporate after the manager denied making additional charges on my card as soon as we left ...the hotel location kept hanging up on us when we were trying to find out why we had multiple charges...corporate relayed to us that we were under surveillance the entire night because me and my son seemed suspicious....they never once communicated their concerns, but accused us at check out for items which were never even in the room ..the managers personal blanket and a lamp??? Who would take home an over used blanket?? They only had sheets!!! No desk lamp ... They also had an issue with us eating their crappy breakfast in our room... They told corporate we must have snuck people in since we didn't not eat in their tiny office , in front of their face....the owner really needs to make some changes here....very upset that we were being watch as well as their lack of communication and dishonesty.
I enjoyed the stay and the area, a lot restaurants and bars around , walking distance nice and cool and fresh.
The hotel is in a convenient place, the room was good but the breakfast or lack of it was terrible, no coffee or orange juice, we had to ask for it but the orange juice was vile. only boiled eggs and bread available despite being at breakfast an hour before it closed. The guy running the breakfast did not have a clue.
Thank you for caring that i have a good experience ! The rooms were clean and i property was clean . The manager cared about the hotel and the customers
Worst hotel in my life! Hotel staff/desk was a piece of sheet! Rooms were crap had to relocate my technician. Room had not been clean and had a bloody tampon in the toilet.
Fresh coffee every morning with doughnuts for breakfast. Appreciative of the hotel manager Laura, who was very nice and helpful with getting checked in and making sure I had everything I needed. It made for such a pleasant stay. Will return next time I'm in the area.
Wonderful stay as always! Rooms were clean. free breakfast. Stress fee. For the rate I can say this hotel is a much better stay than other hotels of comparable price range in Santa Cruz. Laura is very proffessional and accomodating. We will be returning again!
It was great and last minute(my mistake) but very accommodating.I felt at home, staff was great and attentive. I have stayed a few times since and will always come back here when I'm in the area. The rooms were clean and a very quiet stay. The waffles are my favorite breakfast option hands down.
This hotel is fantastic. It's my second time staying here and won't be my last. The person at the front desk has been genuine, helpful and responsive to any needs. Even the housekeepers took it upon themselves to resolve the issue I had with my room key seemingly not working (it was my mistake), their helpfulness stood out from many hotels I have stayed at in my life. The room is very clean, with no weird smells. It's quiet. It's peaceful. It's affordable. What more could I want... I'll be back again. Thank you!
I stayed here for a week and had the absolute worst time the hotel itself is okay but there's a hero on dealer living on the property so I had tweaked a constantly roaming the parking lot and no king on my door looking for drugs. The front desk customer service representative is a childish person who is unwilling to help any complaints you will bring to her and say your the problem for example I returned to my roof one day and a car was hanging out of his parking spot so I didn't want to squeeze my car through and damage my car his car or the building I went in to locate the owner to ask for it to be adjusted she instantly shut me down saying it's in a parking spot and keep denying me help when I said I wasn't comfortable so when I got fed up with the lack of help and just drove through the exit since her lack of assistance she then tried to kick me out of my room and the property locking me from my room and denying me access back into it with my room key. She claimed I had nothing but aditude and was rude to everyone but here's the thing if you work customer service you should be willing to help disgruntled customers to make them feel more welcome but she just made me feel unwelcome and like I'm the problem for trying to ask for assistance she will not give me her bosses number of any way to form my complaints overall my worst stay I'd rather sleep in my car on the streets.
Love staying at Best Western properties. Just did not expect this kind of average- less than average accommodation at this particular location. Toilet was not properly cleaned. Breakfast was not served Saturday- 1/27 AM without any proper notification. Just frustrating and guests felt they were shortchanged.
Awesome rooms excellent front desk lady very very nice and accommodating. Will tell friends to come. Breakfast is pretty quick clean and coffee is always hot. This is my go-to from now on. Recommend all to come.
The hotel room was very clean and has some upgrades like shampoo, conditioner and body wash dispensers instead of the small bottles they have at other hotels. Vanity mirror has lights and defogger with just a touch of the mirror. Definitely will be staying there on my trips to Santa Cruz. Hotel room is very close to the boardwalk.
My family was threatened by the erratic behavior of another guest who was yelling in the parking lot and then invaded our privacy by opening our car door, entering the back of the car where our kids were, taking their pictures and making disturbing comments. We felt uncomfortable and left a night early.
I love this recently remodeled hotel in town for its willingness to offer hospitality. And for the great price. My daughter loved the pool in the summertime. Sometimes might be loud from street people, noise from the alleyway or college kids drinking in a room all night. Bring earplugs or ask for a por at the front. Usually it's quiet for Caltrains workers staying during the week. There are always families staying at this location. Everyone who works here goes above and beyond, keeps the place clean and open. This spot is close to many eateries and to downtown, to boardwalk & beach. Also nearby are local spa destination, Thai massage, and a gym right next door. Plus several grocery markets are right up the street, in addition to numerous convenient stores/gas. The courthouse is across the nearest large intersection where you will find EV charging too, or at Whole Foods that is equidistant or only slightly farther. You can tell they don't have the budget to make for the best reviews but there's no telling why. This hotel is the cleanest, one of the safest, most hospitable and best deal in the Santa Cruz tourist area. Also check out the Best Western app to save more on your trips.
The Manager was awesome and exceeded our expectations. The cost of the hotel was ridiculous. Best Western / Surestay I am ashamed of you for charging this much for this location and amenities(lack there of).
This was the most horrible room I have ever stayed in. There was sooo much wrong with this room. The toilet was missing pieces and was wiggling, the TV remote didn't work, the tub was cracked and had black mold where the caulking was coming out, the floor was sticky and dirty, the pillows were absolutely horrible, the “bedding” was a tiny, thin blanket and two top sheets (one on the very top), there were massive areas of missing paint throughout the room, our door had about a 1 inch gap on bottom when it closed.
The rooms were OK, it was more so the neighbors they were definitely there partying and not the good kind Had lots of foot traffic coming back and forth all night, which was concerning especially because there was no real additional like top lock on the door. Definitely a little sketchy.
The staff let me check in pretty early, but into a room with two queens and not a king. Staff was friendly and the price for Santa Cruz was good—less than $100. Buuut, there were some issues……maybe because of my early checkin? Toilet clogged first flush, wall thermostat did not work, permanent residents double parked behind me causing me to have to go door to door looking for the car owner, no mat or washcloths in bathroom and breakfast was late
Room was smelly and microwave was dirty. Glad I had Lysol wipes with me to wipe highly touched areas like door knobs, switches, remote, parts of doors, tables, counters, chair, faucets, and toilet as I got visible dirt off on quite a few of those. Ice maker was very disgusting and the catcher had very dirty water that seemed black in color. A few women that looked like prostitutes/crackheads were walking around on both days and homeless people were staying in the grounds that looked so sketchy. Breakfast was horrible, it was better than nothing. No syrup for waffles, no basic scrambled eggs, sausage, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, bananas/oranges, tater tots like other Best Western Hotel. The creamer had no lid open for kinds of ferms. I felt so unsafe with my family the one night we stayed.
“Great location with easy access to all Santa Cruz has to offer! The ocean beaches are only minutes away! Great food and drinks right across the street. very quiet and clean. Laura is the Best, will definitely stay here in July.
I been staying at this hotel for a min I love the office lady everyday I'm there I gotta atleast speak to her. I love how she accommodate My needs no matter what time or day it is. I came to my room checked in left and came back after midnight and realized my tv had no sound and without a problem they got me a new tv
Difficult check in, late at night and had no towels or soaps in room, had to go back twice to get. Lights by bed did not work. One thin blanket on bed...had to go back and ask for extra blanket. Every thing in room was as cheaply made as ever seen in motel. Both mornings we asked for room to be cleaned was not done.
I was initially given a key to a room that was occupied. Awkward. The manager then gave me a key to a different room saying they'd just finished cleaning it. But when I went in - there was a dirty sheet balled up on the desk, and no towels in the room. I found a housekeeper in the next room - gave him the sheet and told him I had no towels in my room. No one ever brought me towels. I mean - no hand towel, no bathmat, nothing. Then, as I left to get dinner, the door wouldn't shut. I had to jiggle the handle from the inside in order for it to close. It felt really unsafe. My gut reaction was that's three strikes, I should leave and get a different hotel. But I didn't trust myself and brushed it off. I really should have left. Other things wrong with the room / hotel - the toilet seat was broken, the outlets on one side of the bed didn't work, the sink faucet was wobbly, the soda machines were all out of order, and the person/people in the room above mine were so loud I couldn't sleep - even with ear plugs. I should have trusted my gut. I thought I would save some money by getting a no-frills hotel. But this hotel couldn't even get the basics right. Absolutely not worth it. Never again.
Supervise the breakfast and should maintain cleanliness. Serve single packets of peanut butter & honey. Replenish pastyif empty. Must have separate thongs for the bread & pastries. Manager should return call when left a message.
MAJOR TRIP HAZARD IN ROOM-BEWARE! The flooring transition between the bedroom and bathroom is 1 1/4 inch tall. United building code is max 3/8" to 1/2" max. After bringing it to managements attention they wanted to blame it on their assumption I was intoxicated, No apology, no comp. Just rude with no help. DONT STAY HERE!!
We enjoyed our 3 night stay that included breakfast...waffles, pastries, fruit, coffee, etc. The managers go out of their way to make sure you feel welcome & have everything you need. Our room was newly renovated & very clean & well stocked. The refrigerator & microwave were a plus too. The location is a 5 minute drive to the beach, boardwalk, & downtown. We didn't have time to enjoy the pool but noticed it was clean & well maintained. The staff made our stay a good one & we will be back on our next visit to Santa Cruz.
We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights and we were nicely surprised how clean and friendly it was. Bed was sparkling white and comfortable. Free breakfast is very simple, but nice, we loved fresh waffles and plenty of coffee. Lora, the manager worked very hard to make sure that everything is working and all the guests are happy. I will definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and family.
Great little hotel less than a mile from the beach, clean, relaxed, excellent new Management team running this place! Very friendly staff. I think it was just bought by Best Western 6 weeks ago, and is being completely renovated. I stayed in one of the suites, looked nice, and it was very clean and quiet. New beds seemed nice, very comfortable I slept well. Great breakfast options in the morning, waffles were delicious! Coffee in the rooms smelled really good, and they new coffee pod machines. Parking here was VERY safe. I was impressed with how well the parking lot lit up, and liked it had a lot of security cameras in it. I stayed for a week while working on a project for Google, and had no issue with my truck being bothered at all. I believe it was just repaved. Loved it had a great pool area with chairs to lay out in the sun, and good wifi coverage. I was also close to the beach and the pier (4 min drive), when I wasn't working there was tons of stuff around to do. The eating options were outstanding, I didn't have to drive to find a good meal once. Starbucks is .1 miles from the hotel, The Water Street Grill .1 miles, Taqueria Los Pericos .3 miles, Marianne's Ice Cream .3 miles (Best in SC), Jack In The Box .2 miles, Salsa Thai .4 miles, Lillian's Italian Kitchen .3 miles, The Habit Burger Grill .4 miles, McDonald's .4 miles, Ferrell's Donut Shop .4 miles, Santa Cruz Diner .2 miles, Samba Rock Acai Cafe .3 miles (If you like ACAI BOWLS this place is off the charts!!). The managers and staff of this new property seem very intent on making sure people have a fantastic stay. The only thing missing in my suite was bathrobes and slippers lol. I enjoyed my stay, and will be back the next time I am flown in for work again, or if I need a few days off at the beach. My rating 5 out of 5 stars.
Went for a lil get away with my husband for my birthday so I booked thinking this would be amazing for almost 300 for one nice but no walked in to the lobby and they had appliances all in the lobby. Second they had no clean rooms or even a decent from to put me in. The smell was horrible. Smelled like it was cleaned with a smelly wet mop. Was the worst 300 spent! Wish I would take back
Stayed here because it was a Wyndham property and we needed a weekend away (and to use points) Bad me, didn't check reviews. Wyndham is usually reliable. Now that it's newly remodeled, its pretty good. Call directly for breakfast info, as there wasn't a place for breakfast when we stayed during the remodel. So no breakfast as of 4/14/22
