"Lovely hotel with sea views, excellent reception staff, in particular Camille who was very helpful."
Aine M, 28 Juillet 2024

Super parking, nice terrace with sunset views comfortable rooms, friendly reception staff. I will definitely stay here again. Not sure about the waiter in the restaurant though 🧐 - beautiful walk to the old town along promenade, takes 15 minutes but also you can catch the bus from the street behind the no's 6 or 9 - €2 will get there in less than 5 minutes! Also the Maisonette Malecot patisserie is 5 minutes walk and has the best croissants I have ever tasted!

"Highly recommendable!"
Andre M, 26 Mai 2024

After two VERY disappointing experiences with the Best Western Hotel Le Cheval Blanc in Honfleur, Normandy, and the Best Western Hotel de la Rade in Cassis at the Côte d'azur we were pleasantly surprised about this gorgeous hotel which felt more like a 4 star hotel. Located right on the beach it has an elevator, the air condition was already turned on in early May (a BIG plus!!!) and it has parking which we hardly ever got in any of the 8 places where we stayed during these 3,5 weeks in France. We had a room on the 5th floor with a beautiful view on the Atlantik ocean. It was very quiet and one of the best experiences on this trip together with Hotel Parisianer in Paris next to gar de Lyon. Lovely hotel staff. We can highly recommend this hotel in St. Malo, you won't regret it.

"Lovely hotel with great Views"
nickN4617XA, 18 Septembre 2023

This is an excellent hotel with great views over looking the promenade and sea. The hotel is clean and tidy but the Wifi connection could be better. The staff are friendly and helpful. We very much enjoyed our stay.

"Photos lie"
douglasmD3, 29 Septembre 2022

Arrived at about noon and was told the room was not ready, although they did not actually check. Went to see the restaurant and the fish smell is overwhelming. Came back at 3 and went up to the room. There is barely enough room to walk around the bed. They give you a luggage stand but there is no more to put it and still walk around the bed. This is a terribly overpriced hotel whose only redeeming note is that it is on the beach. I don't understand why Best Western puts its name on this hotel. It is a disservice to the brand.

"Average hotel"
emiromer, 15 Juillet 2022

Hotel location is perfect .But little bit old reception and rooms. It needs to renew Rooms is too small . Staffs were so helpful. Elevator was another problem just one elevator it has. You have to wait it all time Hotels restaurant and cafe location was perfect and amazing sea view Value 3

"Well located, well run hotel on the beach"
pthomas156, 12 Mai 2022

My idea of the perfect hotel on the waterfront in St Malo was one with a balcony to watch the gigantic tides come in and out. I researched many, and to my surprise the one with the best offering was the Best Western Alexandra, a chain I associate with America's West. In our three days and nights in St Malo, the BW proved its perfection. The location is very good — walkable from the Old City but near the fun of the ocean, with kite surfers, sailing go-karts, kids playing in the sand. It is close to Les Charmettes Hotel, which had a lively front porch happy hour and a wonderful Breton kir. And on the street side it is in a neighborhood of exquisitely beautiful stone houses with architectural touches it was a joy to discover. Plus a cheese store, a chocolate boutique and a pharmacy well-stocked with all the French beauty products American women load up on to bring home. But the overarching reason I reserved here is that they had available at a reasonable price an oceanfront room with either a bow window or a terrace that boasted a table and two chairs. When I reserved, about two months early, I specifically requested a terrace, and I received a message back that my request had been noted. Happily, my request was granted, and the little terrace was wonderful. The room itself was compact, but amazingly managed to have everything we needed. It had a tiny fridge, a good shower, great wifi and a wonderful towel warmer. We enjoyed having breakfast each morning in the waterfront restaurant, Etrave. We could choose from a small (12 euros) or large (18 euros) breakfast as it was not included in our room price. If it had been warmer in the mornings we might have liked to dine on our terrasse but the first week of May was not warm until the afternoon! Then it was sunny and delightful. We had dinner one night in the hotel restaurant and had a lovely meal, one of the nicest of our trip. The fish soup was especially good. The menu was quite varied (I had seafood risotto and my husband some type of perhaps quail) and the wine list reasonably priced. In addition, the hotel staff was friendly and quite helpful any time we needed anything. One staffer took the time to make several phone calls for us on our last morning when we were headed for an overnight on Le Mont St Michel and realized we didn't have the code from our hotel to park in the overnight lot. The amount of French required was beyond what I had for that. We also appreciated the secure parking ($14 a night), which wasn't so critical in early May but I'm sure is worth its weight in gold in July and August. But we especially loved waking up each morning and coming back each day to the view and sound of the dramatically changing tides from our terrace — something so special to Brittany and St Malo. I would love to come back again.

"Excellent choice!!"
caroline2, 27 Novembre 2020

Another delightful stay in this well maintained hotel with a sea view. The rooms have been nicely refurbished since my last stay. Nice reception staff with helpful suggestions and a gated parking well appreciated when the town gets busy. The only thing missing is a menu with a better selection of either vegetarian or flexitarian dishes Overall an excellent choice!!

"Good location, but hotel is tired. "
HarbourTwo, 07 Septembre 2020

This hotel is in a good location, a nice walk to the walled town centre. It is a small hotel with small rooms and small bathroom and the elevator was annoyingly noisy with a repetitive clanging noise. The hallways and room decor are dated and tired looking. However, the staff were very friendly, parking on-site is available at an additional cost and it is clean. The seafront location is lovely, though we did not have an ocean front room.

"St Malo"
MSharon_920, 03 Décembre 2019

Very nice small hotel on the beach within walking distance of the walled city. Great location, very nice staff. The rooms are smallish but many have a view to the ocean. The rooms also have an electric pot for hot water and internet. I really enjoyed my stay and plan to return.

"seafront hotel"
sossytraveller, 25 Novembre 2019

The major reason of choosing this hotel is its proximity to the sea. Better choose a seaview room since that's a hotel feature anyway. Some rooms have an open balcony while some don't , like mine. But since it's winter, having a closed balcony is better. However, they didn't check beforehand if my room window was functioning properly. I wanted to open it but it was stuck. The staff also wasn't able to open it and they needed to replace a part of it but would take more time. I was offered a similar room at another floor however, it was too late and a hassle to arrange things again into the luggage and transfer. Breakfast was good especially the crepe and other pastries. There were only a couple of hot food choices like eggs and sausage. There was no variety and you'll eat the same food everyday. It's around 20-30 minutes walk to the Intramuros and around 20 minutes to St. Malo SNCF station. There's also a bus stop 5 minutes walk away on the main road. The main road also has Carrefour and other restaurants . It's more on the residential and relaxing part compared to Intramuros area so it depends on what you really want during your stay.

"Fantastic seaview"
caroline2, 06 Septembre 2019

This hotel is right on the promenade, it's very quiet at night, only the waves can be heard. The room in itself was quite large with a bow window, the view is really amazing. The room furniture could be improved as they seem a bit outdated. A special word about all the staff from the reception to housekeeping they were all very friendly and helpful!!! There is a parking on the spot which is a great plus in busy season, it is probably a good idea to reserve ahead of time as the parking is quite small. Would certainly recommend this hotel.

"Happy with our choice, enjoyable stay!"
Freebird_71, 16 Août 2019

To stay 4 nights in Saint-Malo is serious business, there are hundreds of options to choose from so it's always good to look for advice on the Internet. My wife had booked this place in advance, but you never know what to expect, especially when you travel with children and the four of you need to fit in one single room. To my surprise, the room was really large, it features a terrace, air conditioning, mini-bar, extra pillows, complete bathroom, excellent reading lights and good quality beds. As we arrived I immediately noticed we would face some trouble using the TV: the Philips model in the room was old and the generic remote control would not allow to choose the image source. After a friendly conversation with the lady at the desk the next morning, we had the TV changed for a better, more modern one, so we could enjoy HDMI or USB connections to watch movies. The free Wi-Fi is excellent and stable. The hotel is located on the beach promenade, so the location is good and it's not complicated to park in the surroundings. However if you want to go Intra-muros, you need to walk half an hour (or take the car, it's full of parkings there). The breakfast is very good: you can squeeze some oranges with a juice machine, but you can also have the non-fresh one anytime. Nice fresh French bread, croissants, yogurts, some cheese, eggs... Overall very good experience, will not disappoint you!

"Pleasant stay...."
Ramidjea, 12 Juin 2019

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights for my son's birthday weekend. We had a family room on the top floor with a great view to the sea. The staffs were very kind and professionnel. Last year, we had a very bad experience at a hotel situated in Luc-sur-Mer, Normandie and I was quite sceptical of booking a hotel to spend a birthday weekend, but this hotel is so so so good in all aspects and I don't regret for haven chosen this hotel. If I had to pick a -ve point, I would say there was no free garage, however we had a lot more free space outside so we parked out and it really didn't bother us. Overall we enjoyed our stay and looking forward to visiting your hotel.. maybe next year. Cheers

"ok"
120jerseygirl, 16 Mai 2019

the rooms are quite snug the bathrooms are too small and some toilets you can hardly get into.. we had to ask for a more accessible room which they gave us with walkin shower. not the easiest car park to get into .

"Last night of our holiday before travelling home"
jerry728, 22 Octobre 2018

Whilst it isn't the easiest hotel to get to (especially on a busy Sunday afternoon) it's worth it! Situated directly on the promenade overlooking the sea, it has wonderful views and a surprisingly good restaurant. The 'formula' menus were well thought out and the quality of both cooking and presentation exceeded our expectations. The room was comfortable and well decorated and the staff were attentive and helpful

"Do not stop here for a drink"
Kim W, 11 Septembre 2018

We stopped here for a drink while out walking. Our waitress Catherine was the rudest waitress I've ever been served by. She cleared our table, snatching cutlery etc without a word. When she brought our drinks out, these were slammed on the table - I actually thought the glass was going to break. The cappuccinos we ordered were only half full, and at a cost of 5 euro's, a full cup would have been appreciated. She did not utter a word. I would NEVER go back to this hotel for a drink. This waitress really needs to be sacked!

"Exceeded our expectation!"
mandieree, 29 Juillet 2018

We did a lot of research before booking this hotel, and it paid off. The location is perfect for a beach holiday, yet a comfortable enough walk to old town (25 mins). We had a sea view room with a balcony- it is well worth the additional charge. The rooms are dated, but comfortable. Housekeeping is amazing, our room was spotless! The restaurant is also quite good, I recommend dining at sunset, it's spectacular. We didn't take advantage of the breakfast as it was a bit expensive, and there are plenty of cafes and a grocery store withing walking distance. The parking is on-site and very convenient, although if you have a big car- good luck getting in and out of the driveway located on a one-way street that allows street parking for some insane reason. Of all the places we stayed during our travels, I think we were the most satisfied with this hotel.

"Wonderful Stay on the Coast"
SMH071, 27 Juin 2018

The Hotel is located right on the water. Great place to walk along the promenade to the walled city or just enjoy the beach. We had great views from our room with an outside balcony. The rooms were clean and roomy for European standards.

"A classic Hotel situated on the Bay"
dtredhead, 21 Mai 2018

This hotel has a lovely situation but is a long way from the 'Intra Muros'. A good half hours walk, or a €8 taxi ride. The promenade outside is broad and full of holiday makers enjoying themselves. As befits a 4* establishment the breakfast (€17) was excellent including egg, bacon and sausages and all the other continental varieties. The room we has (308) was very well appointed with comfortable beds, a nice bathroom with a separate loo and had a little balcony with a table and chairs and quite perfect when the sun is shining, as it was!

"STAFF STOLE OUR IPHONE! NEVER GO THERE!!"
Malene N, 20 Mai 2018

NOT BEST WESTERN STANDARD! Right after check out, at the parking lot we realized we forgot our iphone. Went back in at went to the room, looked at the exact spot we left it, IT WAS GONE! And the cleaning ladies had just been there! WE KNOW THEY STOLE IT, BECAUSE IT WAS TURNED OFF (WE HAD LOTS OF BATTERY ON!). No staff wanted to helped. Said noone would do it. But how would a phone disaper and gets turned off in a few minutes??? Also "find my iphone" was turned off in the meantime. Why would "BEst Western" accept thiefs as staff? UNBELIEVEABLE! I REPEAT - DO NOT GO THERE. NO HELP AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!

"Right on the beach. Great views out to sea"
FWG_11, 18 Mai 2018

This is a great hotel in a brilliant place. Restaurant and terrace look straight out on what can only be be described as a perfect beach. Restaurant manageress was brilliant.. and the food delicious. Will definitely return

"Perfect hotel for a seaside stay"
Roving_Correspondent, 03 Décembre 2017

Stayed in a room with a lovely view facing the beach. Hotel is well-appointed, clean and well-staffed. Hotel parking is limited in number, but well-secured and certainly convenient. We did not try the restaurant, but another guest said that it was pretty good.

"Wonderful hotel!"
Librabby, 04 Novembre 2017

We stayed at this hotel the last week of October and we are so glad we did! Our room had a breathtaking view of the sea. Breakfast was amazing, everything fresh and delicious and so many choices! The staff was very helpful and very nice. The hotel is right on the magnificent beach of Saint Malo so all we had to do was to go out and we could walk for miles along the beach. I highly recommend this hotel.

"Fourth visit and still 100% excellent"
Sauvarin, 17 Août 2017

Our stopover in St Malo would not be complete if we didn't stay at Hotel Alexandra. It has everything one could want. Position, parking, excellent staff, very clean and extremely comfortable rooms and yummy food! We have promised ourselves that our next stay will be longer than one night - making it a short break holiday destination. Thank you very much.

"Not Tesla friendly "
Mark W, 27 Juin 2017

I visited this hotel enroute to Jersey as my Tesla said there was a destination charger there. When I arrived the car park was empty so I asked if I could charge my car for an hour or so while I had lunch at the hotel. The response was a big fat no. Consequently the restaurant lost out on a lunch order and the hotel is a no-no for me in future whatever car I may be driving.

"Amazing location, great restaurant, lovely staff"
Carole F, 23 Août 2016

We chose this hotel for our 25th wedding anniversary trip (with the kids!). When we arrived we were pleased with the on site parking and even more pleased when we realised they had upgraded us to room 506 - sea view. The views were beautiful. The hotel is literally across the pedestrian walkway to the beach - so really safe for kids and near for anyone with problems walking far. The food, whilst not cheap - was lovely, and the pictures of the setting sun on the sea were worth it. The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough to help. There is a mini bar. if you are fit and healthy then the old town is within walking distance, but we took a taxi which was about 10 minutes and not expensive. We ate out the second night and the hotel gave us a brilliant recommendation for a sea food restaurant which was not overpriced, as some are in the old town.

"Pleasant overnight stay with family"
Andrew M, 16 Août 2016

We spent the night here as a family before getting the ferry back to Portsmouth. We stayed in a family room, which was very pleasant and comfortable, with a large balcony. The location of the hotel on the sea front couldn't be better - beach is literally outside. We all ate at the restaurant, and unlike one of the earlier reviews had a very good experience. Food was good (nothing flash but all very pleasant), and our waitress was superb - spoke good English when our basic French failed, and chatted away to the kids about the little toys they had with them. We'd recommend this place - only advice to the hotel would be to remodel the disabled access so as to make more of the bay window in the restaurant overlooking the sea - the view is spectacular and should be made more of.

"Right on sea front"
MazSolihull, 14 Juillet 2016

Stayed 1 night in a sea facing room with balcony, outside was a promenade then the beach and sea. Wonderful view. Room was very good (beds a bit too firm for our liking). Full bathroom and separate toilet, all very clean. Had lifts so no problem for people with mobility problems. Staff were very friendly and spoke English, Restaurant for both dinner and breakfast was okay, prices for room very reasonable 130 euro per night but the meals for two came to 150 euros, not so good. Parking was 12 euros per night. WiFi was free. Would definitely stay again but would probably go out for dinner elsewhere.

"If Only . . . ."
Preston B, 28 Juin 2016

If only the restaurant staff and the chef were up to the same standard as the accommodation we would have rated this hotel as excellent. The restaurant staff were totally inattentive, even though the restaurant was less than 30% full and the food was very poor. I had the grilled steak, which was very fatty and tough but the frozen chips were awful. My wife's salmon was tasteless. No-one asked us if the food was any good even though we left quite a lot. We may stay here again because the room was very nice and a good size but we will NEVER eat here again!

"Excellent hotel set along the sea wall"
Renaud D, 08 Mars 2016

We spent two days at the hotel. The room was very confortable with a great see view thanks to a bow window. The location was excellent with a small walk along the see side to the old town. We had breakfast and dinner and they were both excellent. The staff was very kind. We have also use the parking service and it was very convenient (but not for free). Please note that, despite an excellent soundproofing in the room, on a very windy night, you could hear the wind whistle. No matter what, we slept very well !

"Very poor"
Evita P, 27 Juillet 2015

Hotel very old fashioned and expensive. Small and not clean rooms. Breakfast poor and 0 local products. Does not deserve 4 stars but 2 maximum. Really not worth the visit. Staff is nice, not their fault. Nice view on the sea. Far from any shops though.

"Very nice waterfront hotel"
luvshk, 26 Juillet 2015

The best part about this hotel is the location. Waterfront and only a 10-15 minute walk to town. The room was very comfortable and the breakfast was a nice spread. Sadly I only stayed 1 night. I only wish that they had more English channels on tv but I think it's common not to have English channels as that was my experience with other hotels I stayed at in France as well.

"A nice hotel in a lovely seafront location"
Mark G, 08 Juillet 2015

We stayed at this hotel for a weekend getaway. The staff were very friendly, the room was large and well appointed and the stay was very comfortable. It is facing the main beach in St Malo, so maybe see if you can secure a sea front room. It is just a 20 minutes walk along the beach front to the old walled town where you'll find the restaurants and shops, though there were some nice places to eat also along the way as well as a good restaurant at the hotel. Be aware of the extra charges that you might incur. Breakfast was a bit expensive at €17 per person and we weren't expecting the €12 per day to park on site.

"Overnight stop"
Neil S, 03 Juin 2015

This is another hotel I have stayed in a few times being only a few minutes drive from the ferry terminal and 10 minutes walk to the walled city. The rooms though fairly small are very clean and comfortable. There is plenty of secure on site parking and a nice restaurant overlooking the sea offering a varied and enjoyable menu. A good place to stay for a long weekend in St Malo.

"Just Wow!"
Rony A, 16 Mars 2015

The room, the view, the staff...above expectations! Loved everything about it, the location next to the sea and just 10mins walk from the centre. We had a terrace in our room that overlooks directly the beach. The staff was really friendly.Thumbs up!
