"Best choice to stay in city center of Poitiers for BW Rewards members"
metal5774, 16 Octobre 2023

Basically, the quality of the room itself, the service, and even the location are excellent. I didn't have breakfast so I can't comment on it, but in the morning there was a nice smell of bread in the hotel, so I can imagine that they probably serve delicious French croissants.

"Poor"
PeterD808, 20 Septembre 2023

Do not understand the positive reviews for this place. Our room (106) was allegedly a Superior King Size room. It might pass as “Superior” in Wormwood Scrubs but for a 4 star hotel? Never. The room decor was drab in the extreme with bare walls and head height windows that overlooked a flat roof. The in room safe was devoid of usage instructions. The only storage available for clothes was a shop style rack! The overhead shower in the wet room shot a cascade of water out of the side of the shower head but nothing out of the actual shower, the hand held shower was a tatty, cheap plastic device. The WC in the separate toilet was not firmly fixed to the floor. Would strongly suggest avoiding this one.

"Great stopover "
cliveandsuzanne, 06 Septembre 2023

Great hotel on the very edge of old town, so a couple of mins walk to main attractions . We had a very large room with great facilities . Innumerable restaurants on the doorstep ( oh le bistro very good) Breakfast excellent with a number of unsolicited kitchen treats ! Staff very helpful, franglais useful.

"Not worth the rate"
Trencita_12, 03 Septembre 2023

Disappointing stay here is putting it mildly - we booked a king suite at a not low rate, and the "sitting room," adjacent to the bedroom had an old broken sofa bed that could not be folded closed, thus making it impossible to use as a place to sit - in addition it had a cigarette burn hole on one cushion, and the thin carpeting was stained in a number of spots. The unadorned drab rooms were reminiscent of a prison waiting room with the cheap carpeting and plain beige walls. We had booked this hotel especially to have a/c and the small wall air conditioner for the bedroom was worse than useless. In fact, we turned it on, closed the door, and came back two hours later to find the bedroom warmer than the sitting room, which had no a/c. When I mentioned it to reception, there was little response. But perhaps the crowning insult was the afternoon desk clerk (British accented), who, when we asked for two glasses for a bottle of wine we purchased at the shop next to the hotel, refused our request, saying at first she didn't have any glasses (there is a bar at the reception desk with a shelf of glasses about three feet away in plain view) and then telling us that she couldn't give us glasses because the hotel patrons "steal them or break them and imbed shards of glass into the carpet and the maids get injured." When I said I had never heard of such a thing, she said it is "common in France." We've traveled many years in France and other European countries and this was a first. To be fair, when one of us went back down to reception to beg for a bit of ice, she relented and gave us two glasses, saying she could get in trouble for doing so. The good - breakfast was a good value for 15euros. The morning reception worker was very cheerful and willing to point us in the direction of the sights in Portiers. Location was great. There are other hotels nearby - I'd check them out before booking this one.

"Highly Recommended"
swarden205, 30 Août 2023

A lovely Best Western hotel in the centre yet in a quite location. Room was bigger than your average Best Western hotel rooms abroad and also had air conditioning, which was most welcome considering it was 38 degrees. The breakfast was fantastic, plenty of selection both hot and cold. We would definitely return to this hotel.

"Very good "
colette d, 30 Juillet 2023

Well located hotel with good payable underground parking which is great considering it being central. Room large with AC. Didn't have breakfast so can't comment. Town with its restaurants and bars on your doorstep.

"Lovely Hotel"
GlobeTrotting112362, 01 Juin 2023

This is a lovely hotel in the upper part of Poitiers with plenty of restaurants to choose from. The staff are really friendly and helpful. We had a car and there is parking beside the hotel for only 8 euros per night. We enjoyed the stay so much when we returned to Poitiers a few days later we booked in again.

"Good value, location, and amenities"
wadeemmerson, 13 Avril 2023

I always stay at this hotel when I'm Poitiers for business or leisure purposes. The service is impeccable, polite, and efficient. There are several very good restaurants within a few minutes' walk of the hotel.

"stayed one night (midweek) in each of two consecutive weeks during this years June heatwave."
jillpV7681IT, 17 Août 2022

The air conditioning, tv, clock and kettle did not work on the first visit. There was a similar problem the week after. I think there were problems with the electricity being unable to cope with the load . After a 200 mile drive to the hotel, we were unable to sleep in the room due to the heat, and checked out at 5am, still with a drive of 300 miles in front of us, as did at least one other guest with the same problem. Because of the problems on the day of the second visit, we were eventually relocated by Grand Western to a nearby hotel. I have raised these issues with the management of the hotel but despite being promised a reply, none has been received. My wife is handicapped and unable to walk and I am in my 70's.

"Old but many positives!"
KendeMalamu, 05 Janvier 2022

It's not a recent hotel but compared to the more modern BW we stayed at the previous night it has 5 very positive points in its favour: 1) there is not a sliding door between bedroom and toilet but two real doors! (There is a hallway between bedroom and hotel corridor). 2) there is an electric shutter which makes for very dark room! We faced a courtyard which was quiet 3) the city car park next door (not hotel car park) fits cars over 2m and is very cheap 4) the owner (who manages the breakfast) is super friendly 5) the O Bistro restaurant right opposite is fantastic for dinner I would recommend this hotel but don't have high expectations on decor or modernity. The King Size bad is a plus in France!!

"Quick stop off for us"
valerieLoughton, 01 Octobre 2021

Ugly building from the front but the pool is nice and the restaurant was exceptional really good quality food and wine. The reception area is rather plain but the staff are excellent. Our room was a bit basic but the price reflects this, comfy bed and loads of parking. Brilliant front desk staff.

"Overnighter"
lanzadreamer, 12 Novembre 2019

Location, faultless. Right on the centre of the old town. Ideal for sightseeing. The reception is tucked away up a side entry but once found its a pretty straight forward check in procedure. It's not huge and doesn't need to be. The room was more than adequate for me travelling on my own. Clean bedlinen, laundered towels and a tea tray stocked. Safe in wardrobe if needed along with enough clothes hangers to keep all shirts crease free. My view wasn't at all interesting but then I didn't pay for a view. 2 mins walk to the main square gives you all you want to zee see. The reception doubles up as a casual bar, while breakfast is in the first floor bar? Go figure. Breakfast was vast and catered for all. The staff were all very pleasant and courteous. Room service is an option extra should you choose.

"EXCELLENT LOCATION AND EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY"
cogstewart, 23 Septembre 2019

The Best Western in Poitiers is ideally located for exploring the town centre on foot. Numerous bars, cafes, restaurants and shops together with the main historical attractions are all within a few minutes walk of the hotel and with secure hotel parking available you can forget the car and stretch your legs. The hotel is very well appointed with large accomodation and a large comfortable bed. Poitiers has a lot to offer and the Best Western is the hotel I would recommend.

"Very comfortable hotel in the center "
hermanlit, 18 Septembre 2019

I start from garage as very often in France, hotels located in historic centers have garages so small, that parking there requires special driving qualities. The parking in this hotel was easy. The room was specious and beds comfortable. The location central making all sights within a walking distance. The breakfast tasty and the lady in charge making one feel at home by offering to make an omelette or by bringing a local cake to a table by her own initiative.

"Excellent and comfortable"
travel035, 02 Septembre 2019

The Best Western hotel (Grand Hotel) in Poitiers is a very nice place to stay. We drove in and parked right next door in a city parking lot for 5 euro overnight; the hotel charges 7 and the parking is down in a basement and very tight, so there is no reason to park there or pay more. The bed was quite comfy, AC in the room but didn't need it as it was cool, the breakfast is extensive, more than one could really want. It is located very close to the center of town on a walking street packed with shops and restaurants. It is easy to drive into and to get out of. The train station, though, is a taxi ride away; one can walk but it is a real schlepp up a steep hill and through town. Recommended highly.

"Fine really!"
bertie515, 05 Août 2019

We stayed here on our return journey with our dogs from our house in Spain. The hotel is very centrally located and has very reasonable secure parking. The English lady on reception was really lovely and so helpful and made a fuss over the dogs. They loved her! It was a reasonable room rate so we got exactly what we paid for I think. The room was large, the bed comfortable and it was clean. The hotel is very tired though.

"Too worn down for 4 stars"
ArjanvR, 01 Août 2019

Hotel is on a perfect location right in the heart of the old town. Nice façade and entrance. Woman at reception is not very interested in new guests. Tells us that breakfast is an extra E.12,50 per persoon, so we decide tot go out for breakfast. On checkout another lady tells us that it was complimentary. Bed is way too hard; pillow is too fluffy. Bathroom can hardly be called so.

"Good Value for Money"
finest132019, 29 Juillet 2019

The room was modern, spacious, clean with a fold-out sofa for the kids. The hotel featured a fabulous breakfast with very friendly staff that made us feel very welcome and they offered an excellent selection for breakfast, all good for us as a family of 4.

"Bad shower experience"
Sherpa48333087115, 30 Juin 2019

The shower base in our suite was extremely dangerous as it was incredibly slippery and caused me to fall in the shower recess. Reported the problem to reception who stated all of the showers had this problem and said it was due to the cleaning agents the staff used. I suggested it was time more consideration of guests safety was due. I have trouble walking at the moment as a result and I have photos to illustrate the bruising on my hip.

"Lorraine"
Climber57815389603, 07 Mars 2019

My husband and our stayed at The Best Western in central Poitiers, an ideal location, hotel was warm, pet friendly and had everything we needed for an overnight stay, we liked the small patio, great to release the dogs there

"Great location."
Kimberlee H, 03 Janvier 2019

You can never go wrong with a Best Western Hotel and this hotel did not disappoint. Comfortable and well presented room with fridge, There is parking with the hotel so make sure you book it ahead. If you do not or there are no spaces, there is a car park less than 100m away, which you will be able to find easily. Hotel is in a great location with shops, bars and restaurants immediately outside. Lovely city too. Would recommend

"Brilliant central location"
frankandsheila2016, 06 Octobre 2018

A good hotel but a wee bit on the tired side. However, very clean and comfortable with all we needed, perfectly located in the centre of Poitier, and surrounded by really good restaurants. The lady running the breakfast room was a delight and the breakfast itself was excellent. We used the multi-storey car park next door which was just 2.50 Euros overnight (definitely recommend), but would point out that there is not an up ramp and down ramp, it is one and the same which is somewhat confusing. We would definitely return.

"Good central location. It should be a 3 Star hotel, not 4. "
supmike, 31 Août 2018

The location of the hotel is very central. There's a supermarket next door with a few shops and many restaurants outside. It's a couple minutes walk to the town center. The hotel itself is a 3 Star. Maybe in this town it's considered a 4. The rooms itself are average and could use a little facelift. The price is more indicative of a 3 Star. The room was clean and spacious for two. The bathroom could use some cleaning. You'll see black in the showers and a fan covered in dust. The shower has only a half door so water will splash out especially if you're not careful. There's one elevator for 4 floors (including the ground floor.) It's slow so have patience when there many guests. Breakfast was pretty basic with mostly pre-made/packaged items. WiFi seemed slow but I found this to be the case with many places in France.

"Great location, perfect for a stopover"
Shenlad, 07 Août 2018

We stopped here on our slow journey down to the south-west and I don't think we could have made a better choice. The room and service alone were heading for four stars, but Marie in the Breakfast room earned the final star! It was as if she had invited us to her own house for breakfast - her omelettes were exceptional and there was nothing that she would not have done for us. Otherwise the hotel was exactly what we needed - it's own parking, aircon and a spacious, functional room at a price better than the Ibis down the road. It was also near 20+ restaurants so finding dinner was easy.

"Great location"
G8614UCdavidb, 22 Juillet 2018

Right in the centre of Poitiers with secure underground car parking. Comfy bed. Good breakfast, pleasant staff. Car park is very dark and grim. Access to the hotel is up a steep, narrow staircase - no lift. Room needs updating. Pleasant staff, good location.

"Very good central position"
SpeckledHen2, 19 Juillet 2018

Good position in central Poitiers and easy to walk to the sites and restaurants.. Nice clean room, good welcome, only drawbacks - it was hard to find how to approach it by car with the one-way system and the car park space was very small for a 4wheel drive. But I would really recommend this hotel for convenience, comfort and value for money.

"Good"
Outside101, 28 Mai 2018

Great location, parking next door in public car park, no issues and cheap. Reception area is lovely, staff very good, multi lingual. Room was clean, functional, safe, Wi-fi, standard toiletries and a kettle. Nice view, no complaints,

"Love this hotel"
Airmilesfreak, 22 Mai 2018

This was our 3rd and 4th stay here..we always stay here at the beginning and end of our holiday in France. We had to cancel one of the days at the beginning due to the rail strike and bring a car with us..no problem..I just emailed ahead. We always get a lovely room ...314 this time with a bath and shower ,safe , COFFEE and a great breakfast with a locally produced butter. They are so friendly especially the English receptionist. We will be back another year.

"At the price, a decent choice for location"
The3ofus60614, 17 Mai 2018

The hotel is located on a semi pedestrian street that is eye appealing stone paved to match the surrounding buildings. And while the setting is attractive, the hotel is steps away from restaurants at a variety of prices points. What is more, the location is excellent for visiting and walking about in this exceptional city. The hotel is very reasonably priced. The bedrooms are well sized. The hotel performs as it should: Clean rooms, comfortable beds. The "decor" is functional as is the terrace. Breakfast is typical of a hotel. The staff was helpful and courteous. Of the restaurants in the street, we enjoyed Maitre Kanter, an Alsacien restaurant and Alain Boutin, classic French, nicely presented.

"Good location"
Margaret G, 05 Mai 2018

The location was excellent but it was hard to figure out how to get into the hotel from the parking garage. Our room was nice. My biggest complaint was breakfast. The linens were dirty, and this was first thing in the morning. Staff hadn't shown up on time so nothing was set up.

"Great Hotel"
x81sd, 15 Avril 2018

Compared to most european hotels the Best Western presents premium accommodations. For Americans this may seem unusual as Best Westerns are typically 2.5 stars but in France they are 3 to 4 stars. This one has suites with King Size beds which are a rarity in a land of bouble beds. Great location in the center if town and parking located downstairs.

"Great central location but easy to find and access by vehicle"
StuartBuk, 11 Avril 2018

Wanted a city centre hotel that offered on site parking as I was on a motorbike. Parking was fully secure, which was great. Ideal location less than 500 yards to central square. Hotel was clean and spacious with very pleasant and helpful staff. Ideal for an overnight stop. So easy to find off the main road into Poitiers.

"Ultimate nights sleep "
Andrea I, 23 Mars 2018

We arrived around 6pm to a warm welcome and swiftly went to our room but there was no mattress protector we mentioned this to reception on our way out and on our return upgraded to a superior room with protecter. The rooms come with automatic shutters and the windows open to allow a lovely courtyard fresh air! We literally slept for England with 10 hours of the best bliss sleep ever had in a hotel ! The underground car park is right next door and worth the €7. The room was a little tired but the bedding was lovely and white and bed very comfy. Would we stay again - definitely just the rest we needed after the drive from the euro tunnel.

"Perfect location "
IanLaura, 13 Mars 2018

Very good hotel right in the city centre. This hotel does exactly what it says on the tin. Very clean and comfortable room for the money. Very friendly receptionist who was very polite and helpful. The hotel was quite difficult to find and if it makes any sense try and approach it from the east as all the city centre streets are pedestrian only. The hotel parking is great and right under the hotel. The restaurant almost directly across the street is fantastic and very reasonable priced.

"Standard hotel in a very good location"
SurreyMasha, 01 Octobre 2017

The rooms here are clean with everything you need, including a fridge and kettle, which is unusual for french hotels. It is right in the centre near lots of restaurants and the sights of Poitiers. To get there you are told to follow the signs to the hotel de ville carpark. This is easy to follow and we parked there. It is right next to the hotel and worked out a couple of euros cheaper than the hotel carpark for a night. There is also a small supermarket nearby and plenty of breakfast places if you do not want to eat at the hotel.

"Perfect location in the heart of this historic city"
Gymstress, 19 Septembre 2017

Fabulously located in the heart of Poitiers. A well appointed, city hotel. Staff all professional, and mostly multilingual. A good value breakfast which can be taken, in fair weather, on a sunny terrace. Poitiers is, like so many towns and cities in France, easy to drive past/through without realising how many extraordinary features it includes. If driving do ensure you Pre book parking, or risk having to reverse out of the ramp to the hotel parking!!

"Well located, inexpensive "
adrian m, 11 Septembre 2017

I booked this online during a very last minute trip to Poitiers. There isn't much choice in the way of charming inns in this small city but I can attest to their very good central address, cleanliness of rooms and friendliness of staff. The parking was full when we arrived but the municipal parking garage is literally next door and .40 € cents per hour. The room (especially for the 100€ we paid) was large, very quiet and clean, although the public areas need a bit of an update and a musty spell pervaded the hallways. We did not try any of the f&b outlets.

"served its purpose"
ruusta, 05 Septembre 2017

My wife and i stopped in here as a pit stop in the middle of a road trip. The room was clean, modern, updated. The bathroom was big and bright. The hotel itself was conveniently located in the old part of town, walking distance to shops and restaurants. It was good.

"One night stay...nice"
Laura K, 09 Août 2017

We are on our way from Rocamadour to La Baule-pit stop here. In room 312, very clean, queen size bed, great location. Happy overall. 86 Euros includes parking but only if you have a tiny car. I would recommend.

"This is an OK hotel, nothing special but with great staff"
Timgin, 10 Juillet 2017

We stayed overnight en route back to the UK from France and it did the job. Our room was absolutely fine, a nice big bed which was very comfortable but nothing special. The bathroom was a little dated with a very small shower and a separate toilet which was a bit at odds with the rest of the room which seemed more modern. The receptionist who checked us in couldn't have been more helpful and overall the hotel is good. It has underground secure parking which was welcome and is smack bang in the middle of the old town so was walkable to the main parts. There are lots of bars and restaurants directly outside the hotel so you will not be short of choices.

"Very god hotel in ideal locaton"
Chris C, 08 Juin 2017

Lovely rom (upgraded - thank you) Friendly staff. Clean and well appointed. Situated close to shops and restaurants used the Parkng Hotel de Ville which is next to the hotel but their own parking is also available. Recommended !

"A very pleasant stay"
Airmilesfreak, 28 Mai 2017

We stayed here at the beginning and end of our French Road trip and i am sure if we were in Poitiers again that we would stay here again. It was a taxi ride from the station (too hilly to walk with a suitcase) although we did get the local bus back. The hotel was very central and handy for all the restaurants. First we had a room on floor 2 and at the end of our holiday a WOW one on floor 3. We had a fridge, a safe and a microwave and coffee making facilities and nice toiletries. Breakfast was included with the usual continental fare of cheeses, meat, croissants and beautiful local butter. The room had shutters which we closed at night and that kept the room cool. The rate of 90euros per night was great too.

"Overnight on route to Spain "
David G, 19 Mai 2017

Fantastic hotel at a fantastic price only downside having to pay €7 for parking which I wasn't aware of public car park next door which I'll use next time a lot cheaper very clean and modern highly recommend

"Grand is but a Name"
PMUK, 19 Avril 2017

This is a bland city centre hotel, suitable for business overnight stops, but lacking any charm. We asked for a twin-bedded room, but it seems the Grand only has double beds. The room was of adequate size and had tea and coffee-making facilities, and a TV. What more does one need? Well, a loung to chill out if I was staying for more than one night, perhaps? Breakfast was 12 euros 50, but boasted cold meats and cheeses and hard-boiled eggs in addtion to normal continental breakfast fare. Pity I couldn't do it justice and would have settled for a simpler range for less money. The night's stay was pricey when factoring in breakfast for two and the car parking charge.

"NEVER AGAIN"
Chairmanofthecompany, 06 Avril 2017

Where do I start? Could not find Hôtel had to be guided in via phone with Hôtel despite 2 sat navs trying to get me there! English lady on reception did well but that was the only plus. We asked 4 times for a price for breakfast for the children...never got a reply Had a drink in the so called Bar on the 1st floor at 9pm we walked out after 10 minutes of watching the person in the photo climbing all over the furniture and making so much noise knocking pictures off and books down from the shelves I think she was dusting...left our drinks and refused to pay...this was still put on our bill in the morning, we discussed, we won with a miserable man on the reception. Woman receptionist then tried twice to add 50 euros for breakfast that we had not had. I had prepaid through Booking.com if we had not we would have walked out If you are considering staying there DO NOT..

"Not all it boasts"
Andy N, 30 Mars 2017

Le Grand Hotel was indeed a grand hotel, once. Now it appears to be run as a cheaper alternative. We were given the wrong room which resulted in a couple of guests walking into our room 2 hours later. We arrived at the weekend as the hotels says, there would be no bar open. So we had to venture out for food & drink. The room however was good & tea & coffee facilities were provided in the room. Shame only 1 sachet of coffee, 2 tea bags & 2 sugars between 2 people necessitated numerous visits to reception over our stay. Shower head rail was broken & looked like it had been for quite a while but a separate toilet made up for it. Overall, the hotel needs an overhaul.

"Spacious place"
KentheEnchanter, 28 Janvier 2017

We stayed one night at Poitiers en route to Bordeaux. Unfortunately, it was Christmas day, so the two restaurants that were open were booked for the night. Fortunately we had picked up a baguette and some ham and cheese and wine on the A10 (French highway rest stops rule!), so we had our own Christmas Dinner. But to the hotel...easily the most comfortable and luxurious of our trip...lots of room, King bed, nice bath facilities, a safe, lots of amenities that were often lacking at other hotels during our two week stay. And a great rate. Parking in house and municipal parking literally next door, lots of nice (closed on Christmas) restaurants just across the street, and some beautiful churches we walked through the next morning before leaving. Very courteous and helpful staff with excellent English. Would certainly stay there if we returned.

"No dinner, no bar and no curtains! "
Chris B, 20 Novembre 2016

Arrived in early evening on a Sunday to be told without apology that there is no restaurant, room service or bar available on the weekend.! Slightly stunned but decided to make the best of it as there are restaurants nearby (just a pity it was pouring with rain). Checked in and went to our room on the third floor which had no curtains just a 'net' - luckily not overlooked but still a weird experience. Finally don't choose this hotel if you have dogs with you as despite the hotel accommodating pets this is right in the middle of the town with no walking areas to exercise the pooches.

"Old hotel strategically located but in need of a serious upgrade..."
Albernio, 30 Octobre 2016

The hotel is old. In particular the washrooms need a total renovation and most of the carpets stink. Heating is insufficient. For Canadian standards this would be a less than one star range road motel, but for some mysterious reason in France this hotel is a four stars.

"Very pleasant stay"
Warren S, 21 Octobre 2016

Hotel is located in the town centre, meaning everything is just a walk away. Room was spacious and clean with friendly staff and a decent breakfast. Would stay again next time i'm in Poitiers. Bars/restaurants close by.

"Road Trip through France September 2016"
Roger B, 13 Octobre 2016

Poitiers was a single night-stop for between Reims and Lourdes so we looked for somewhere convenient, in the City, with parking, internet and breakfast. The Best Western was perfect. Despite advice not to follow GPS instructions, our Garmin found it first time. Parking under the hotel was straightforward, as was the check-in. The rooms were good, with bath, shower, air-conditioning and free internet. Just outside the hotel there were lovely bars and a seafood restaurant which had local lobster and mussels. The following morning, there was a good buffet breakfast with excellent, personal service. Poitiers itself was not explored, but as a night-stop, the Best Western was super.

"Great Hotel"
sandymac64, 30 Septembre 2016

What a wonderful experience. From first booking at reception with a very pleasant, helpful, knowledgable young man called Octovian. Very professional and excellent english. the night service receptionist called Benjamin was so helpful, polite and always had a smile. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious. My only complaint about the room was that two twin beds had been pushed together to make a very large double (superior room), which meant one side of the bed was way too far away from the bedside cabinet attached to the wall. Overcame it by moving a coffee table to that side of the bed. Location is great and very central to all that Poitiers has to offer. An abundance of bars/restaurants/coffee shops/retail therapy and the beautiful square just to watch the world go by. Beds were very comfortable and towels changed every day (we were there for 3 nights). Would be helpful if TV had instructions on how to find English channels - only found out from another guest on departure that TV could be retuned. Don't miss the breakfast. Very good value for 12.50 euros. You can help yourself to as much or as little as you need and a very good selection. All served and waited on by an absolutely delightful lady called Marie. She couldn't do enough for us, even to the point she found some English magazines left behind and had them put in my room. A very large selection of the usual european breakfast items, but do try out the omellette which Marie makes t5o perfection. Hot boiled eggs too and I can't forget the scrumptious little bits of cake she would bring to the table. Toilet separate from the bathroom/shower. No sink in the toilet though which meant to wash your hands you had to visit the bathroom/shower room anyway. I bought a little anti bacterial hand gel for the toilet - we managed with that. All in all the staff and the people of Poitiers were very friendly, helpful and most of them spoke English but appreciated us trying some of their language. Yes I would go back but would not stay for any more than 3 days unless I was going to be doing other things outwith the city.

"Excellent hotel"
David R, 21 Septembre 2016

Extremely convenient location in the centre of Poitiers. Very good facilities. Car park under hotel which is really convenient and not too expensive. Comfortable bed. Decent breakfast. Highly recommended.

"Clean, efficient and very central. Usual Best Western standard,"
Maureen M, 07 Septembre 2016

The best part of the hotel was it's location. We did not partake of breakfast there a ta pricey did rather better at the Boulangerie .Poitiers was a wonderful place to stop in on the road south .I would use it again.

"A nice stay on pour way to Spain!"
Margaretha K, 07 Septembre 2016

I think i will be the 5th time that we have a stop here from Holland. We booked a superior room but that was not available when we arrived at the hotel. The reception was very good and she offered us free breakfasts and free garage. The normal room is also quite good but next year we book the superior again

"nice, great location"
Ivebeeneverywhere99, 04 Septembre 2016

Great central location, near restaurants, sites etc. Nothing to complain about and nothing to get excited about. Clean, efficient with everything you could want except style or character. No air conditioning so if you keep your window open it can get noisy.

"Great central location"
Daddyo923, 04 Septembre 2016

We used this hotel as a stop over on our way south. We arrived just after 9pm. Finding the entrance was a little tricky. We'd booked a parking space in the tight car park but it was unclear exactly where we could park. The hotel did have English speaking staff which helped our stay. The room was clean and tidy, just the odd scuffs on the wall here and there. We had booked a 2 room suite and because of our late arrival the sofa bed was made up already. The bathroom was fine, clean and tidy but the shower head wouldn't stay in place. The staff were accommodating when we asked if we could leave our car in the car park as we weren't leaving until later. The hotel is right by plenty of restaurants some were a bit pricey but we found a very good Italian one that stayed open a little longer to accommodate us. WF

"Disappointing "
Tweety80, 02 Septembre 2016

Spent three nights here. Room was lovely in decor. The shower was the worst I've experienced, a mere dribble, and when we asked at reception we were told that's just how they are. Air conditioning was mediocre too, taking ages to get to a comfortable temperature. The worst part was breakfast, we walked in with an hour left of serving time to a room in which every table was cluttered with dirty cups and plates. There was no juices, no pastries, including croissants and we had to ask for a table to be cleared. Very poor service for a hotel of this rating!

"Good city centre hotel"
KernowTraveller9, 31 Août 2016

Nothing remarkable about the actual hotel, but in a great position just off the pedestrianised area close to the main sights, restaurants and bars. Reservable parking which is pretty tight and the entrance to the underground garage is just before you get to the hotel. We overshot because someone was parked across the entrance so had to reverse down the one way street. Ideal for a stopover.

"Great location, ideal for stop-over when driving to South of France"
sim0nr0b, 23 Août 2016

Great location near some good restaurants and a supermarket. Underground car park was brilliant, if a little tight to park. We had a family room with air conditioning and a big bathroom. Third time we have used this hotel as an overnight stop on our drive South and highly recommend.

"Two thumbs up"
Valentin W, 18 Août 2016

Excellent location, all the amenities and the room comfortable and quiet; absolutely recommended it for vacation!!!! It's located in the heart of the restaurant area and steps from center plaza ; buses, taxis and supermarket very close to the hotel; personal truly friendly and helpful

"Great hotel in a great location to see Poitiers"
FiFiJones14, 12 Août 2016

We stayed in a family room with 2 doubles. It was very clean and comfortable. Luckily the room had air con as it was very hot. We stayed with 2 young boys (4&6) and it was fine for us. We could walk to many restaurants and shops in very close proximity to the hotel.

"Not a 4 star hotel"
Sophie Q, 10 Août 2016

The best about the hotel was the room , it was big and adequate for a family. The hotel in general needed a good lick of paint and the lift smelt of damp. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The big downside was the breakfast, i.e. Don't bother paying 10€ per person for it. The big upside was its location as it was literally in the centre of a beautiful pedestrian town amongst multiple restaurants.

"Great location!"
YankeeinQatar, 02 Août 2016

Great location right in the center of town with limited parking but no problem, public parking is merely yards away and very affordable. Very friendly helpful staff. Our room was quite small and tight but was just fine for an overnight visit while on the road. If we were staying for a longer visit I would have requested a larger room. Walking distance to a variety of restaurants, cafes, shops, and City Center.

"A comfortable average priced hotel"
Ianc35, 24 Juillet 2016

This medium priced hotel provides the necessary needs for the resident, a good sized quiet room, a small shower cubicle and bathroom, a wide bed and efficient air conditioning. The outside gate closes at 9pm and is opened by a key code. The parking is very tight for the larger car. Breakfast was good with a wide choice and could be taken either inside or on the adjacent terrace. We were served by a bubbly waitress who was very helpful. We had dinner at a nearby restaurant, Le 16 Carnot, which a wide menu and well-cooked food. One of us ordered the grilled marlin but the wrong dish was supplied. This was changed without question and proved to be a delicious choice.

"Great hotel in an amazing location"
SetonSteele, 17 Juillet 2016

We stayed here for 1 night on route to Perpignan & loved the hotel. The location is slap bang in the centre of town so great for a wander then back to dress for dinner. The welcome was cordial & friendly & English was spoken when my French faltered. Easy to check in & no fussing about. The room was in a dated corridor so we were slightly concerned but this soon dissolved as we discovered a gorgeous room, clean light & airy with a separate bathroom through a double door, this extra door kept any hotel noise out late at night. The in room welcome pack was nice, water, tea & coffee aplenty. The shower was powerful & the whole room clean & tidy. The aircon was a godsend & so powerful, the shutter on the window also helped at night as it closes completely so no early morning light to spoil a lie in The breakfast range is huge! so many excellent choices from local cheeses to crisp pastries & breads. ONE DOWNSIDE. Parking is a nightmare! I should have listened to the previous reviews. I am currently collecting quotes to remove the fire extinguisher paint from my car

"great location, good breakfast !"
kotbury, 14 Juillet 2016

Nice hotel located in the heart of the old town. Friendly staff, good breakfast (you can enjoy it at the terrace), very comfortable bed ! Only problem was the wi-fi that do not work well on the upper floors.

"Good sleep"
Anders H, 13 Juillet 2016

This is an okey hotel for a night or two. It's a little bit worn down but the beds were okey. They have a parking garage. There are some bars and restaurants right outside. The area is okey for a walk. The service at the hotel was very good and they speak English.

"Good Hotel with easy access to central Poitiers"
petermet, 05 Juin 2016

We used this hotel both on our journey to and from the Dordogne. On the way down our room was spacious and satisfied our needs in every respect. On the return we were allocated room 312 which was satisfactory but not of the same standard as our previous stay. On the first visit I took breakfast but as it was purely continental I decided to give it a miss on our return. On both visits one of the reception staff was an Estonian lady who went out of her way to make us feel welcome. The main value of the hotel is its central position and easy access to the main square in Poitiers with its numerous on street eating facilities. Visitors of an energetic disposition may wish to walk 600 yards to the Parc de Blossac which was created in the seventeenth century and includes many attractive features including the trimmed lime trees which adorn the many avenues. The only negative feature of the hotel is its parking arrangements. The underground car park serves the hotel and other establishments. The spaces allocated to Hotel parking are unrealistically small and parking a large car in such spaces is almost impossible. A charge is made for parking and the management of the hotel should consider allocating less spaces of greater size otherwise I will not be returning to the hotel on future visits to France.

"Chain hotel"
Millie G, 05 Juin 2016

Good first impression in the lobby, but the rooms were below average. Cheaply furnished rooms, the most threadbare towels I have ever seen, generic 'body and hair shampoo' in the bathroom and a WC that smelled faintly of urine. There was a safe in the room but it was not attached to anything; the whole thing could have been taken easily. We were traveling with a tour group so maybe we got the cheap rooms. The breakfast was wonderful, though. Lots of choices from bread, pastries, fruit, yoghourt, juices, coffee and much more. The location was very central. Lots of restaurants and landmarks within easy walking distance. Bottom line: I would rather have stayed at a quaint hotel with more personality than a cheap american chain hotel.

"Great location "
sambolinisquarepants, 01 Juin 2016

We stopped here on our way to Carcassonne. Lovely hotel right in the centre. There are shops ,bars and restaurants a plenty just a stones throw away. Stayed one night and had a great night sleep. Great start to a great journey .

"It's fine"
GandCtripper, 18 Mai 2016

The rooms were fine, the shower was a bit weak and the towels were a touch threadbare- but other than that it was perfectly acceptable and good value for the centre of town with all the main 'bits' on your doorstep and close to the airport (15 mins by taxi and about €20). Not sure I like the idea of having to key in a code to get through to the hotel entrance in the evening, but it wasn't a particular Kat problem really

"Great location"
Rosalie R, 16 Mai 2016

We were very happy staying at Le Grand Hotel the room was very generous in size as was the bed which was also very comfortable. Breakfast was a wonderful assortment and catered to every taste. I became quite ill during our stay and the staff were fantastic helping us contact a doctor and translating when needed and enquiring regularly on how I was. Wonderful hotel!

"Very quiet central hotel"
paulW3933FP, 14 Mai 2016

A locked space was found for our bicycles with no difficulty. Staff were helpful and the room was delightful and quiet as the hotel is set back from a pedestrianised street. Very convenient location right in the middle of the old town whilst not too far from the station.

"Quiet Comfort in the Heart of the City"
shmacculloch, 11 Mai 2016

We had just arrived from a long overseas flight and were delighted with our clean QUIET room overlooking the courtyard. The staff were courteous and helpful, especially the Estonian receptionist, and we enjoyed a generous and delicious breakfast the next morning. Can't beat the location as we were within walking distance of all the sights. A perfect place to be gain our holiday.

"A very good overnight stop."
Ken B, 17 Avril 2016

A comfortably adequate room right in the centre of town. The double bed was enormous & we could easily have slept across the width of the bed. The shower was very basic but did the job. The breakfast was also very good with a good variety of choices.

"Overnight stay in Poitiers"
suzisuzi, 27 Mars 2016

We stayed here on an overnight stay before travelling to Rouen. The room was comfortable and clean but strangely the actual toilet was opposite the bathroom and was rather cramped. However, everything else was fine. The receptionist had obviously not heard of the phrase 'meet and greet' and was extremely brusque. We found a fabulous restaurant opposite the hotel called The Bonheur' which had a live duo and the food was fabulous. The hotel is in the centre of Poitiers and has underground parking.

"Very happy with our choice"
Emma T, 08 Mars 2016

We stayed here as part of a weekend visiting Futuroscope and Poitiers. Parking was great, we had a space right at the hotel. I have never stayed in a quieter hotel room, it was so peaceful. Having 2 rooms meant that we could close the door on the sleeping little ones. It was perfect for our requirements.

"Wished we'd stayed longer!"
BeavanDaf, 11 Février 2016

Although being situated on a main street in the middle of the town, we thought this was a very quiet and relaxing hotel, the entrance being through an archway and off a small courtyard. Our room was really large and the bed was enormous (and comfortable) and there was really nothing I'd fault. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful, with the option of sitting outside on a roof terrace. And all of the staff we dealt with were extremely friendly and helpful. Our timetable meant we only had the one night there but I'd gladly choose this hotel again if we return to Poitiers.

"Best of a mediocre choice"
A_Huntley_Jacobs, 03 Janvier 2016

My wife and I stayed here with our dog on the long drive back from Bordeaux. Firstly, may I say, ignore all previous reviews which refer to parking nightmares. There is a car park 10 metres away, with hundreds of spaces, for under 5 euros - and we have a 1.8m car plus roof box. High vehicles have to park on the ground floor and there are probably 25-30 spaces available there. The parking attendant refuses to allow anyone to park there unless they have a high vehicle. We booked a standard room, it wasn't very big and our dog is large so we were quite hot during the night as there was no air conditioning. The location is superb, right in the town centre with bars and restaurants nearby in abundance and the staff on the desk couldn't do enough to assist us with our queries. Poitiers isn't endowed with a number of great hotels, so this was as good as we could find.

"Very good location, mediocre hotel"
Marialzbeta, 01 Janvier 2016

The hotel is very well located in the city center, there are lot of good restaurants nearby but the hotel and rooms are quiet. I wouldn't rate it a 4 stars hotel, it's quite outdated and especially the bathroom needs to be refurbished. We didn't try the breakfast as we didn't expect too much given the condition of the hotel; there are plenty of chances to eat outside. Staff was mostly helpful, some were rather careless.

"Decent hotel in central location"
Riesst, 25 Décembre 2015

The Best Western Poitiers Centre Le Grand is located in the historic old town. The access to the hotel is through a courtyard. The hotel is away from noise, in an old building that has been renovated. It has 50 rooms that are well appointed. Some of them are narrow. The beds are extremely comfortable. The bathroom is slightly outdated, with an exhaust fan that worked poorly. The breakfast is plentiful for French standards. The service is attentive. Eggs are freshly prepared on request. As it is a hotel “garni”, it has no restaurant. I recommend “Le Bistrot du Boucher” just opposite. Next door is the “Taverne du Maitre Kanter” a restaurant chain specialized in Sauerkraut and mussels. The access by car is difficult, due to the many one-way streets. The city is on a hill, if you take a wrong turn, it becomes a real challenge to get back on track. The hotel garage is dark and narrow, suitable only for small cars. Overnight parking costs € 6.50. As an alternative option is the car park of the Casino supermarket, located 50 meters down the road. The night tariff is € 3, but after 09.00 AM it turns more expensive. As a small hint; it is preferable to ask for a room away from the lift which is old and noisy.

"Another pleasant stay"
Armagnac295, 19 Décembre 2015

From arrival to departure each member of staff we met was professional, efficient and pleasant. Stayed one night in a standard room which was quiet and comfortable. Location is brilliant, a short stroll to all amenities and in a safe and well lit area. Breakfast was sufficient and varied enough for most people and served by a charming lady. Parking is bookable in a secure garage which as has been mentioned is fairly tight for space. We left our car in the Hôtel de Ville car park which is roomy and well lit - cost was around €7.50 for 24 hours.

"Perfectly located in Poitiers"
Carl-Henrik P, 17 Décembre 2015

+++ The wonderful woman serving breakfast. So charmante and lovely. And she washed my clothes. +++ The hotel location in the heart of Poitiers. Within 100 m there were a couple of very good and value for money restaurants. And the cosy pedestrian area. +++ The points you get which can be accumulated for free nights anywhere in the world. And Best Western has so many hotels. ++ Very quiet rooms. No noisy streets outside. ++ Quite comfortable room and bed. Has what you need. + Fast and convenient check in and out. + Ok price. - A free bottle of water the first night. But not the following two nights. - - Little choice in the minibar. No beer. Bad.

"Comfortable and well located"
TucsonCeedee, 23 Novembre 2015

The Best Western Le Grand Hotel is very conveniently located. Our room was quite large and very comfortable. Staff is friendly but a special mention: Marie is an absolutel gem who made sure we had an excellent breakfast. We'll definitely stay here next time we visit Poitiers, which, by the way, is a lovely city.

"Great location"
OSUWASHMAN, 06 Octobre 2015

A really lovely place to stay whilst visiting Poitiers, lots of bars and restaurants right beside hotel, car parking available. Rooms clean and very well stocked, staff were very pleasant and helpful. Highly recommend this place. Room had black out blinds which helped for a great nights sleep

"Very nice hotel, excellent location, rooms and breakfast"
PnONL, 05 Octobre 2015

This Best Western hotel has an excellent location, very nice rooms and great breakfast. Despite the fact that your can hear noise from the corridor, we would certainly come back again to this hotel with its friendly staff.

"Quiet rooms"
bradziker1, 24 Septembre 2015

Room was decent size – although having the toilet in its own separate cubicle always is interesting. Fridge cold, and safe big enough for laptop. TV but no English channels. Automatic blinds on the windows make the room dark, and it was very quiet. Breakfast on the first floor from 7am. Basic cold continental items – no hot dishes. Not sure how this rates at 4 star with no true restaurant or things like pool, etc. Lots of restaurants and grocery stores in immediate area.

"Great hotel and location."
Phil C, 14 Septembre 2015

We stayed here as a family of 5, there was more than enough room for all of us with an adjoining room for the children, only one room had aircon but the rooms were cool anyway, Breakfast was extra as part of our stay and at €15 was a bit expensive for what was offered.

"Very good location ..."
Carsten A, 23 Août 2015

... in the heart of the old town of Poitiers. It is just a two minute walk to the central plaza in front of the magnificent town hall. The hotel offers parking for 6,50€ per night in the garage, which is really a bargain, but be aware that the parking lots and the whole garage are really narrow. The rooms are clean and offer what you need, but are a little small. We have not taken the breakfast as we had to leave early, but we assume it being worth the money as well.

"Eddie."
Johnnyjohnnyooh, 22 Août 2015

Eddie at reception was wonderful. He replied to my email very promptly to secure a parking spot in their garage. The garage however is very very tight and the path up to hotel has a lip which was hard for me to drag up suitcases. This is a small detail though when your tired from driving it's very frustrating . But it's perfectly situated and I would return.

"Ideal Situation "
BernardR515, 19 Août 2015

Having only stayed in hotels near Futurescope , this was our first visit to Poitiers itself. A very well placed hotel in the centre of the city, the staff were very helpful and when required spoke English, the rooms were comfortable and well maintained, there was no restaurant but this not a problem as there were several just outside the entrance and breakfast could be taken in the hotel, the parking was both reasonable and secure. Would visit again

"Great Hotel In The Town Centre"
Stuartmac-11, 14 Août 2015

Hotel quite uniquely situated in the centre of a busy bar and restaurant area. Impressive entrance to hotel makes you feel good. Room was spacious nicely furnished with an excellent bed - separate toilet and shower room. Helpful reception staff make you feel at ease. Only drawback is parking in the underground car park is limited and the spaces are very small. That apart it's a good place to stay, and worth a recommendation.

"Lovely Central Hotel"
JessiejamesLondon, 13 Août 2015

Stayed here for 2 nights. Lovely position right in the pedestrianised centre of Poitiers with all the bars and restaurants on the doorstep. Our room was large and clean and had tea/coffee facilities, large flat screen tv, aircon, and a huge kingsize bed. Also bathroom with shower and a separate toilet. The staff were very friendly and helpful and reception staff speak English. There is a small car park I think but we did not have a car. The continental breakfast was good in an attractive room, and there is also a pretty outside terrace. Really recommend this hotel.

"Best downtown location"
Philippe G, 29 Octobre 2014

A well run hotel in the heart of Poitiers: very helpful staff, large and clean rooms, pretty good breakfast but poor room ventilation and access to rooms through one small elevator that runs very slowly.

"Excellent hotel, in central location."
ellieboyer, 27 Août 2014

The hotel is great but what is extra special about this hotel is its staff. Nothing is a problem. From the moment we checked in everything was done to make our stay enjoyable. Reception to house keeping the standard was very high. The hotel is in a fantastic location, very central with restaurants any where you look. (The food in the restaurants to die for).

"A great stay"
Marie-Annick, 22 Juin 2013

Located on in the historic center, opening onto a quiet courtyard, within comfortable walking distance of the major monuments. An older hotel, taken over by Best Western and brought up to their standard which is very comfortable and yet still moderate in price. Definitely a cut above an Ibis (though I am also a frequent Ibis customer, and like them in general) in terms of room size, amenities and the quality of the breakfast, which was exceptional. Those of us who remember the good old days when hot drinks were made individually for each breakfast table by an attentive host(ess) will appreciate this holdover from an earlier age: no nasty machine-made coffee. The buffet assortment is not particularly large (though more than adequate) BUT the staff will also make eggs (scrambled, boiled or fried) on request. In good weather breakfast can be taken on an outdoor terrace. The hostess on duty in the breakfast room when we were there was exceptionally warm and pleasant, and kept the hot coffee and milk coming. The desk staff gave us an excellent dinner recommendation (it was a Sunday night and many restaurants were closed). Parking can be found either in the hotel parking garage or in the public garage next door which was very inexpensive for an overnight stay. One warning: be sure you come prepared with a good map of the inner town or a GPS because the approach to the hotel via the city streets is complicated by pedestrian zones, train tracks, hilly topography and one-way streets. However both the city and the hotel are well worth the trouble. Highly recommended!
