OK for an overnight stay. The room was average. Annoyed they preset the TV volume level very low (excessively). The bathroom stank a bit of sewage and the air conditioning was ineffective and its control panel was super bright (could not turn off or dim at night). Outraged a bit by their policy of charging €30 for our pet Labrador. The fee is somewhat excessive. They claim it is to cover the costs of cleaning. Well, they don't do a great job as there was evidence of fur from previous dogs in the room. No pet bed supplied and dog poop on the grounds from owners not being responsible. The total cost was around €150 for the night (with a dog), so not cheap for a motel. They have a restaurant on site but the menu was dull. The bar was well stocked with choices so wasn't terrible. Would be nice to see snack options served.
Lovely hotel with friendly and very attentive staff. Rooms small but clean and comfortable with tea and coffee facilities in the room. Pool lovely although limited seating available. Restaurant lovely and food fantastic- not cheap but worth it. Accepts dogs and grounds are lovely for a walk. We would return without hesitation and recommend this hotel.
We have stayed at this property before and we liked it then as we do now. We are travelling back to the UK from Spain and this hotel is conveniently located not too far off our route. We were warmly welcomed by a lovely friendly receptionist. We were upgraded to a bigger room which had a lovely bathroom with bathtub and a separate loo. The bed was very comfortable with extra pillows in the wardrobe. The only reason for not giving 5 stars was that this hotel allows pets and we were woken up by a howling dog!! Not what you want when you have a long travel ahead of you. There are rooms outside of the main hotel so maybe guests with pets should stay in these!
Booked this hotel for 2 reason. 1/ Easy access to & from motorway en route to Spain. 2/ Dog friendly. Check in was efficient & friendly and there is a large field on site for the dog. They do charge 30€ for the dog, but you know this in advance. We had a lovely breakfast in the morning which we took back to our room and overall we found the experience good. We have booked for our return road trip. Thankyou.
This hotel, is cold and uninviting, we booked this hotel for an overnight stay on a Sunday, the restaurant and bar were closed. The room was so cold we had to bring a fan heater from our car to warm up the room, the w/c was situated far from the bathroom which is very unhygienic, on a previous stay we booked B & B, the breakfast was very poor everything had run out and was not replenished, look elsewhere, we will not be returning.
We were very pleased with the size of the room, how pet friendly they are and the quality of the breakfast. It is also super close to the motorway but at the same time, in the middle of a huge park. It even has a swimming pool! The person who received us on arrival, Manpreet, was absolutely lovely and sorted us out after we realised Booking.com had messed our reservation.
We'll what can I say!!! Arrived at the hotel after a 7 hour drive o ly to be told it was an extra £30 euro per dog. We only have 2 very small dogs and it did not stat that on Booking.com !!!. Then to be told the restaurant and bar was closed as it was Sunday. The shower and bath water does not go to a hot temperature. To top it all the room is cold as the heating isn't efficient and the room looks very uninvitting clean but very much like a prison cell. Very disappointed as we have used this hotel prior on our usual trips to Spain and return. A very miserable stay !!! Would like to be contacted by a manager please Thank you
They charged my card, after I left the hotel with an extra €30, I emailed them to ask what this was for, and they said my dog. On booking the room on Booking, com, it stated like most other hotels, charges mat be applicable, but don't normally charge when you arrive with a dog. They said they didn't know we had a dog, until they saw us leaving, despite the receptionist, being situated opposite the entrance!. If I have to pay for my dog please be upfront with the charges, and not sneakily after leaving, even then €30 is extortionate. I suggested they made the charge for a dog clear for customers. The room was large and comfortable, but the restaurant evening meal was expensive, and slow service.
We booked this hotel only the night before the date and in poor weather conditions we found it hard to locate the hotel as our Sat Nav was not functioning. We phoned the hotel and Alexandra the receptionist guided us to the hotel. She was knowledgeable, polite and brilliant at our time when we were getting anxious. Five stars and big thanks to her. Dinner and breakfast was very enjoyable. The room had a very comfortable bed, the bathroom was spotless and well appointed. All in all the Hotel was great and Alexandra superb. Highly recommended for a restful stay eight kms from Poitiers centre.
Fantastic hotel, super friendly staff on arrival. Great stopover returning from Spain to uk. Modern rooms, comfy bed and great shower. Lovely surroundings and even a pool. Restaurant available good meal but service a bit slow. Free parking and lovely breakfast in the morning before we departed. Would highly recommend and will be staying there again.
I never leave reviews but I feel compelled to do so on this occasion. We had an absolute disastrous start to our French holiday. Our car broke down on the first day of our two week break. I had two young children and a husband who were absolutely devastated and exhausted. With an engine failure, our car had to stay in France until it could be repatriated to the UK. We tried to find a hire car, but being August, there were seemingly no cars available. This is when Manpreet on reception became our knight in shining armour! Manpreet phoned around countless car hire companies, even calling her husband to get him to walk to a hire car company near to where they lived. Eventually she found us a hire car when no one else could (not even the AA insurance team!) After securing us a hire car to save our two week holiday, she also personally went and made my 7 year old son a ham sandwich when he was hungry because the restaurant was closed. Manpreet at the Best western in le bois is honestly one of the best humans I've ever met in my life. When me and my family were lost in a country with what felt like nothing, she rescued us. It was above and beyond what she needed to do. What an absolute angel! I will never forget what you did for us Manpreet (should you read this) you are one of life's absolute hero's! What you did for us went above and beyond! Thank you so much. And if Best Western read this - Manpreet should definitely be rewarded for her beautiful nature and care towards your customers. Just to add - our evening meal was super and the hotel room was very comfortable with great beds! I would definitely recommend this hotel - I will probably return anyway to give Manpreet another cuddle for being so kind.
Sadly disappointing. Went with family x2 young kids for a single night stay to break a longer journey south, we were allocated a family room #105 seemingly over the restaurant. Banging and crashing until early hours, extractor fans and air con equipment outside the window so couldn't open because of noise. Internal air con utterly inadequate - control panel locked and controlled at reception, despite notifying reception and them dropping the set temp to 21 the room temp never dropped below 27 due to the feeble flow of barely cool air that wafted from a single vent largely fouled by a crossbeam installed for the wardrobe. Of course the hum of equipment lasted all night and the air con itself switched off around 9am and wouldn't reactivate from the panel as, presumably, reception had set a timer on it from their central panel. We sweated, tossed and turned all night and didn't not sleep well. I note the ‘canicule' of extreme heat in Aug 2023 had by now broken and exterior temp was in the low 20s. I shudder to think how hot it must have been for guests in that room when air temps were in the 35s. On departure I spoke to another family who had the same issue with air con in their room as well. Finally, for some mystery reason there is no soap except for shower gel in a dispenser that is hard to reach unless you climb into the bath. Despite complementary tea/coffee, there is no soap; weird. Can't recommend.
Ideal hotel when you travel to or from Spain. Breakfast and dinner are great value for money. The big pool outside is an absolute winner! It is open from 09.00-12.00 and 14.00-19.00. It also features an extensive yard to play on, a badminton net, a basketball yard and a pétanque area. The rooms are conform the price. One minor point: the springs in the bed are a little too much. My child moves a lot when trying to sleep and that feels a bit annoying.
The hotel was lovely , grounds spacious lots of parking. Room large spotless, very well decorated tea coffee provided Very easy check in lovely guy on reception spoke very good English Location off motorway but nothing in walking distance Lidl across road but busy road so need to drive We booked this hotel instead of our usual gite accommodation as a relaxing break with the pool for couple days chilling however this was short lived as the pool is open 9-12 2-7pm and they actually ask you to leave at 12pm We were an elderly couple reading books bothering no one We believe it's so the people that chose to dine in the restaurant or on the terrace infront don't look at people in the pool! The restaurant and hotel on a lunchtime was very quiet as it's a layover hotel This isn't made clear on booking sites.
We received a very warm welcome at this hotel; the room was recently refurbished and it was pleasant that it had tea and coffee facilities. The hotel is right next to the N10 which is a toll-free way to get to Bordeaux. It was helpful that the hotel warned us that the restaurant would be closed the night we were there so we could plan ahead; not so good that we hadn't realised this meant we couldn't even get a beer!
A good stopover, near both the A10 and N10 just south of Poitiers and in attractive wooded grounds. Modern hotel with clean, bright and comfortable, reasonably spacious rooms with Juliet balcony, large shower etc. Tea and coffee-making facilities in the rooms were a bonus, although not keen on paper cups as they tend to go soggy after a couple of uses. Staff were helpful and we were able to check in early. We had arrived unexpectedly early in the afternoon due to having to cancel a planned visit to a chateau/gardens because of atrocious weather/heavy rain. The evening meal and breakfast in the restaurant was good.
Booked a week ago for this evening. Arrived to check in and was told I had to eat in my room as the restaurant is reserved for a private party. I made my booking directly with Best Western, but nothing was mentioned about not being able to use the full facilities of the hotel.
the Room was ok , apart from that there is nothing good to say about this place. They charged my credit card , accidently they say but I am still waiting on a refund. Despite numerous emails , still no refund. Service in the restaurant was terrible and the steaks they served us were just pure fat. When we complained, the manager said 'that is how steak is in France'
In England, the 'Best Western' brand is quite shabby and so we (a couple and a big Rhodesian Ridgeback) were a bit apprehensive about booking L'Hotel bois de la marche as our first stopover on our road-trip from Calais down to Andalucia. We couldn't have been more wrong. Firstly, the hotel is in a perfect position for travellers. It is 2 minutes off the autoroute, 5 minutes from a big centre commercial and yet situated in the most idyllic Poitou woodland and farmland with only a rumble of traffic in the distance. The hotel itself isn't a grand affair but the rooms are large and clean and the linen and beds are good quality. We experienced no problem with cleanliness or smells despite the fact that there were plenty of travellers with their pets (I only mention this because another reviewer mentioned it, we experienced nothing of the sort). Secondly, the staff were particularly charming - the receptionist Manpreet is lovely as is Kate, the English-Poitevin manageress in the restaurant. Couldn't have been nicer. The two of them, along with the restaurant manger, are a very professional team. The restaurant is excellent - they serve the traditional 'beuchelle' from Tours, which is basically an offal-based stroganoff-style blanquette - and there is a good wine list. It is a rare treat to find proper old-fashioned cuisine bourgeois these days, too many restaurants in France major on burgers and similar English-American muck. There are excellent veggie and lighter options too, confit of leeks excellent. As other reviewers have mentioned, the breakfast too is excellent, there is nothing like waking up in France to the smell of coffee and fresh bread. Thirdly, the hotel is organised around dogs. There are great walks in the woods, which are full of deer and it's possible to give the dog a good run before putting them in the car again. So all in all, thoroughly recommended and by no means an expensive option.
We stayed for one night on our way from the UK to the south of France and wanted somewhere that was convenient for the Autoroute. I really only needed somewhere clean and comfy to rest. However, everything about our stay was excellent. Our room was quiet and clean. It was a simple room but very comfortable (air con is a joy in 33 degree heat!) and the huge shower was a real bonus. What made the hotel great though was the pool and the peaceful location. On a hot day, after a long drive, throwing myself into the beautiful pool was bliss. The pool and sun terrace are beautiful too; I could have spent all day there. Because the hotel isn't near a lot, we opted to eat dinner in the restaurant- and I'm so glad we did. The food was excellent and reasonably priced (2x courses for 2 people plus a couple of drinks each was about 60 Euro). The whole restaurant is very modern and it felt like a lovely treat. We had breakfast there the next morning. It was a fairly typical buffet hotel breakfast but it was done really well - with good, fresh, local ingredients on offer. There are a few areas of the hotel that look a little bit tired (e.g. the tiny lifts, some of the common areas, the bathroom doors) but don't let it put you off as it's all cosmetic. Finally, all the staff we met were wonderful: friendly, helpful and incredibly good at what they do. In particular, the gentleman running the restaurant on the night we stayed (3rd September) was a total professional - serving all the tables on a busy Saturday evening. Overall, a really great hotel for a stopover and I'd happily stay again and recommend it to others. Thank you!
We stayed here for 2 nights, hotel staff friendly, but did not go out of their way to help. The lift was smelly, room clean, but toilet small. We had a loose tap, in the bedroom and short it toilet roll, when reported, staff did not seem too concerned and tap was not fixed while we was there. Restaurant nice, food nice, but a little pricey. Swimming pool, clean & lovely, was nice to use and help cool you down in the hot weather. Nice local and great grounds.
We have been visiting this hotel for the 10th time in 12 years. They manage to improve breakfast and the rooms every year and the restaurant maintains it's quality. Also a nice walk in the forest for your dog nearby and the kids love to swimm in the pool. There is also a patisserie nearby so you can get baguettes for the trip ahead.
Great hotel for dogs and a good stopover en route south. Our room was newly renovated, tastefully so and large for us, dog and a toddler. Friendly staff, lovely big grounds to walk the dog round. It's in need of work which is a shame as you want it to be restored to its glory! Excellent restaurant, delicious food.
We were warmly welcomed at reception but the room was very small and dirty. We didn't notice in the evening as we arrived in the dark. Lovely restaurant with great food. Returned and floor stained toilet minute and the next morning found opened sachets of body wash from previous guests in the shower. Told reception and they didn't seem bothered. Breakfast poor and service lacklustre. Such a contrast to the food and service in the restaurant.
Nice hotel in lovely settings friendly staff excellent receptionist. Food was good breakfast great choice. Service the night we ate there was a little slow, kitchen issue? but food nonetheless was enjoyable. Staff were attentive and next year we will be back
A very nice hotel with helpful and friendly staff. A relaxing stay with a nice prepared meal in the restaurant after a pre-planned late arrival. The reception staff were incredibly helpful and kind. Thank you for a great stay and see you again.
We made here a 1 night stop on the way to our holiday destination. Hotel is located in a woody area and is quiet even it is close to the high way. Parking is right in front of the door. The check is was smooth and nice , the lady spoke very well English and was helpful and nice (something you do not see every day in France !) . I had forgotten a plug for my electric device and the reception lady was happy to provide one from the hotel. The hotel itself is nothing special but clean. Shower in a bath , something I am not so keen on. Water was also not very hot I have to say. At night we ate in the hotel's restaurant. The chicken was delicious ! and restaurants service was also good ( English menu available ). We relaxed in the outdoor pool before travelling on to our destination. All in all a very pleasant stop on the way .
Nice stay, but lock your door from inside overnight. We stayed over here as a stop off to go to the ferry north from the south of france. The hotel was clean and the pool a good break for the kids after a drive on a hot day. The reception staff were helpful although our room was ready quite late. Unfortunately although the food in the restaurant was good it all came out at different times which was a shame and we had to wait a long time. Staff were apologetic though. Lots of children and families at the hotel as it was summer holidays. I lock the door from inside always as we have small children but glad I did as in the middle of the night someone tried the door. Perhaps this was just a mistake but if you are a family then I would suggest keeping the door locked for extra security.
This hotel hsd everything we needed - clean and comfortable room, plenty of parking, friendly service and good food. The hotel was clean The, spacious and airy and covid provisions were well implemented so it felt a safe place to be. The pool was an added bonus and we enjoyed the lovely parkland setting. Dinner on the terrace, was excellent and breakfast, served in the lovely, modern restaurant was very good. Don't be put off by previous negative comments - we would definitely stay again. My only suggestion would be the provision of extra towels if required for the pool.
We opted to stay at this hotel with no regrets at all . Huge parking space. Reception was clean and spacious. Covid hygiene was in order Check In was zippy Room was very spacious and if not all the room options were there, covid reminded us that less touch the better. We could opt to call in the reception for it. Pool was super clean Resto was nice The outdoor setting was quiet and clean for afternoon bruskies Room service was great too I will come back
Convenient for through routes but in tranquil location. Clean comfortable room. Agreeable light meal al fresco from outside bar service. Convenient parking. Delightful pool, though somewhat smaller than it appears on the photograph. Well organised to respect social distancing
Stayed overnight on our drive to Spain. Booked a bungalow room in the grounds after reading reviews - perfect as you can park directly outside the room and carry bags straight in. Great if you are travelling with dogs. Plenty of grounds (not fenced in so couldn't let the dog off the lead ). Restaurant is good. Def stay on our next trip
We stayed here on the way back to the UK as it was on our route and you know you're largely safe with a Best Western. The staff provided very good and friendly service. The room was perfectly adequate, there was nothing wrong at all with our brief stay it's just average as you would expect.
The location is excellent when travelling with dogs. The extensive grounds means the dogs can have a run after being cooped up on a journey. We requested and were allocated a bungalow in the grounds which makes it much easier dealing with the dogs We have stayed here many times and on this occasion were disappointed that things were not up to the usual standard. There was a problem with the toilet flush, it taking many hours to fill after use, we resorted to using the waste bin from the bathroom filled with water. The air conditioning unit in the room did not function. We did not report these until the morning as we were tired after a days driving and the weather was not conducive to running across to the hotel from the bungalow. I was told if we had reported the issues would have been addressed . As a gesture of good will the fee for the dogs was knocked off the bill. Breakfast was disappointing in that staff did not keep the breakfast bar stocked . The service was not particularly busy but items , particularly the hot items were running out, I waited for a period for more eggs and bacon to arrive but gave up after a period of time
Very good value for a 3* hotel, conveniently located in wooded grounds just south of Poitiers, approx 10 minutes off the motorway. Our room (207) was very clean, and bed extremely comfortable - I don't remember sleeping better. €12.50 per head for an extensive buffet breakfast that meant we didn't feel the need to buy lunch. Clean, medium sized pool and plenty of parking. We missed the turning to the hotel when we first arrived - it is literally off the roundabout. The only thing that prevented this being a 5* review is the lack of a room safe. I would definitely stay here again.
Good location from motorway, friendly hotel staff and very good evening meal in the resturant. Very reasonably priced. We arrived at 9pm and restaurant staff were more than happy to serve us. Room was clean and perfect for a one night stop over.
Delightful welcome by very helpful receptionist. Swam in pleasant pool. Reasonable room for cost. Comfortable bed. All round great value. Would certainly return. Nice grounds and easy access to and from major routes north and south.
A very nice hotel well placed for traveling through France. Hotel is currently undergoing a full refurbishment, whilst this did generate some noise it was acceptable and our room had already been referred/ Evening meal in the restaurant was excellent.
Wonderful staff, great rooms, Top Notch food, and CLEAN everywhere, definitely worth a visit for whatever the reason, very close to all main access roads, and easy to find. A great nights sleep in a very comfortable bed. We will definitely stop again in the future.
Stayed for an overnight stay on the way to Bordeaux. Hotel is conveniently situated just off the A10, but is not at all noisy, set within a small area of Woodland. It's not much to look at from the outside but the room was newly refurbished, spotless and comfortable. Restaurant was good albeit felt a touch expensive. For the summer months it had an outdoor bar area set amongst the trees (which was very 'shoreditch') and also served tapas style dishes along with drink. Also had a small but appreciated pool. I wouldn't spend a holiday here but for an overnight stop en route somewhere or for a trip to futuroscope it was ideal and for the price very reasonable.
We had chosen this hotel because of its location on our way to Spain. It was close to the autoroute, with a nice restaurant and a pool for the kids. Breakfast was okay with lots of choice. Good quality/price ratio.
This was a very comfortable and convenient stopover on our way through France to Spain being situated just south of Poitiers between the A10 and the N10. It is in the process of being refurbished. Our room was newly decorated with spotless newly fitted bathroom. The restaurant area was very attractive and the grounds are lovely. There is some road noise during the day but it was quiet at night.
Ok as a stop over night with good location to the N10 to French dordogne region. The swimming pool is good however they are currently having building working carried out so it can be a little noisy. Food and drink is expensive also.
The hotel is off the main drag. There are NO vendor machines for soda, candy or snacks in the hotel. We NEVER saw a pool nor did we see any signs for a pool. They were working on the cabins in front of the hotel and changing the windows in the main hotel along with redoing carpeting , painting etc. Our room was recently redecorated. We went to the restaurant to see what the menu was like. The wait staff was "room number" three times. told them I am just reviewing the menu to see if we want to eat here or not. We left since they were so rude.
This is another really convenient stop over place off the A10. It is set in a lovely large area of parkland so is quiet with plenty of parking. There was some refurbishment going on at the time of our stay but it didn't disturb us. The staff were really friendly and helpful and spoke good English. The restaurant was first class. Our room was newly refurbished and was perfect for our needs. We would definitely use this place again.
Don't be put off by the unprepossessing exterior seen from the road! The grounds are large and well kept, our dog loved his walks! Inside, the building is well designed and very well maintained. The staff at the reception and in the restaurant were very welcoming and professional. The room was large enough even with our big dog. It was very clean and well appointed. The dinner surpassed our expectations with a large choice of refined dishes using the best ingredients and seasonal products. The prices, especially those of the wines, were reasonable. Shame we stayed only one night, next time we will stay longer!
We booked this hotel as a stop over on the way home from Spain so were looking for little more than a bed and a meal. The hotel was very easy to find. Our room was pleasant and the bathroom was fine. Some parts of the hotel could do with an upgrade and it did look as though work was being done. The weather was poor so we did not get out to walk around the grounds but on a pleasant evening I think that would be a treat. Bar prices were quite steep - but it was good to be able to have a drink before dinner. We went into the restaurant thinking we would have a light meal but changed our minds and decided to make an evening of it. It was the right decision. Excellent food and wine - everything was just perfect. Reception staff were helpful and friendly. We will definitely use this hotel again
We stayed here for one night en route to Portugal. We arrived in torrential rain which meant we did not see the hotel at it's best or be able to use the lovely outdoor pool. The staff here make the hotel. The receptionist speaks brilliant English and all staff were very polite. Parking is easy and a very tranquil setting in the forest. On a sunny day the grounds would have looked wonderful. Sadly the rooms are very tired. We had a triple room, really good size for three adults but the standard to be honest is not what we have come to expect from Best western. The rooms are shabby. They lack that extra attention to detail. Carpets are stained and tired in the room and corridors. The beds were comfy and lovely clean sheets. Bathroom was clean and fresh towels. The balcony railings were rusted and the balcony full of leaves etc. We spent a quiet night, totally undisturbed and the breakfast was excellent. This review sounds very mixed message. Yes it is great for an overnight stop but the building itself needs some attention to the upkeep.
Stayed here as a stop over whilst doing a long drive to the south of France from calais. Only needed a bed for the night and stayed in a family room which was plenty big enough with double, single and cot. No fridge in room, basic but clean. On first floor and could hear a party going on downstairs but didn't affect us. Would use again as a stop over as was easy and good value for money.
Tired is not the word to describe this place. Just don't know how it survives in the modern world of Trip Advisor, social media and AirBNB. Staff very friendly and accommodating but our part of the hotel had that boiled cabbage smell. The hallways were dark, had stained carpets, hallway doors that hung open, scratched skirting boards and a general feeling of past glories. The rooms although clean had evidence of multiple cabling upgrades and several decades worth of decor changes. Sitting on the toilet was a challenge as the recently added large green translucent multiple toilet roll dispenser was located exactly where my left shoulder would normally be positioned. The paper cups in the room for morning coffee just added to the feeling of ongoing cost cutting in the face of declining revenues. Must have been a great hotel once but next time, we will put that extra bit of effort to use the internet.
My wife and I stayed overnight recently. We arrived without a reservation, but having done some research online beforehand. What a lovely hotel!! We had a room on the fourth floor, with a view (unfortunately) of a local road - but a part of the view was also of the nearby woods. The road, to be fair, was about 60-80 metres away, so we suffered no noise problems. I believe there are rooms which look solely out onto the pool area and the woods surrounding the hotel: the grounds are enormous!! There are several recreation areas apart from the pool - a petanque / boules court; a tennis court; outdoor event area (it looked like it was intended for outdoor F&B, maybe BBQ?) and plenty of space to take a decent walk (you and your dogs) for 10-20 minutes. The room was very well furnished, the bed very comfortable, the bathroom fine (even though some previous reviewers do not like the separate WC), and the AC easy to adjust to our preference. Nothing negative at all to report. The wifi in the room was likewise very good (fast to connect, fast to refresh and open pages). We ate at the restaurant that same evening. There is a very good menu - full a la carte, or three choices of set menus. We chose the mddle-priced set menu and were delighted! Our starters (I had a mixture of tomato varieties with parmesan wafers and a splash of pesto, my wife had tuna carpaccio) were perfect. Our main courses (we both chose the chorizo stuffed chicken breast) were likewise excellent, and were accompnied by a near-perfect risotto. Finally, our desserts (we both chose lemon meringue tart) were truly excellent. Truly excellent. I have a passion for lemon meringue, and eat it wherever I go - I have to say that what we were given at Bois de la Marche was without doubt the absolutely best lemon meringue creation I have ever tasted - and by a long way!! The meringue was creamy and sweet: the lemon was beautifully tangy; the pastry superb. The lemon and meringue tartness and sweetness complimented each other perfectly. Absolute bloody heaven!! The wine selection was very good, and the wine chosen was excellent. There were two draft beers on offer, and I chose Grimbergen (an abbey beer) - good choice! The staff - at Reception and in the restaurant - were very friendly and helpful. I spoke in very poor French to them all and they replied only in French back to me, with a smile on their faces. When my wife addressed them in English (French not being one of her languagues) the response were always polite and in perfect English. Would I return? In a flash!! Yes!! Absolutely!! Would I reccomend? After the above, I have to. But I would much rather keep this lovely little gem of a place to myself, to be honest....!
Very good deal with a room form four of us ! Excellent swimming pool, weather was very hot when we went there and we really apreciated to cool in the water, until 21:00 ! All the staff is very kind and they managed to find another vacancy on our way back form Dordogne a few days later, incredible ! The breakfast is a great moment too !
We have stayed at this hotel many times. It has large grounds for walking the dogs. The rooms are big and comfortable with super king beds. Friendly staff and good food. All floors are served by lift. The pool area and outside terrace looked inviting even if we didn't use it, we arriving just before dinner and leaving early the following morning, It is the only hotel where we have felt we could let our dogs run free off lead the grounds are that extensive
Stayed here on a visit to Futuroscope as a cheaper alternative to on site hotels. It is a very nice hotel, large family room with a king sized bed and 2 singles. The pool is a good size and outdoors with heating. Had stayed here 18 years ago on a similar trip and was pleasantly surprised that it did not disappoint second time around. I would not eat in the restaurant again but there is not much more around. Did notice a shopping complex just across the main road and could maybe have found an alternative meal, particularly with children, like a buffalo grill.
Ours was an overnight stop-over on a Sunday. Greeting at reception was good and informative, the initial impression was that the public areas were very tired and in need of a refurb and decoration. Our room (217) was a similar condition, although the bathroom (no toilet) looked to have been recently re-tiled the shower curtain (dated) had mold around the bottom. The toilet was in a separate small room with no wash basin. They could do away with the bath, fit a shower cubicle and then a toilet would fit quite easily into the room - not a lot of thought needed. The restaurant did look well presented but offering food at Paris prices - being a Sunday most restaurants in Poitiers are closed so they have a captive audience, there is no bar or snack menu. The pool was an added bonus but there were insufficient sun-loungers for the number of people there (8 loungers max - 15 to 20 bodies). The grounds are extensive and its a lovely setting, the staff we encountered were good, polite and efficient - just needs a good make-over. Would we stay again if in the area........? Not sure.
We booked 2 rooms for a 3 night stay on our way home to England to catch the last of the good weather. We booked mostly for the outdoor heated pool and we weren't disappointed. The reception staff were fantastic and made every effort to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The restaurant was pleasant, if a little bit over complicated. At lunchtimes they serve the same menu as in the evenings, but were quite accommodating when we asked for something simple and made us a few cheese and ham rolls and chips. So we can't complain at all. Breakfast was fine, and the coffee good. Although I can see why people said it was a little dated in the rooms, that's true enough, but it's clean and the restaurant and where you eat breakfast was really very nice, and generally we found the staff lovely. I'd stay here again and thought it was good value.
This title "self-service" is the closest I can think of. It's a weird place, probably because of the staff ! Checking in was terrible, the lady literally ignored me twice to attend people coming from outside, same happened with checking out (although then she ignored me only once :) ) After check in I went to my room and it was dirty and messed up, probably someone had just checked out .. Came back to reception and they just gave me another key to another room ! No sorry no apologies no nothing !!! Not even a word. There was no one at the front desk almost every time we needed anything. Breakfast .. No one around from the staff, and if they are around they are busy with something else related to anything except costumers !! Lunch and dinner .. You'll be served and you have no right to complain, ask, choose, or ask for more, just eat what's being put in front of you !! Room service was a lovely story as well .. Probably the only thing they did was make up the bed; and that's it, everyday I come back to my room and I see the same dirty spots in the room !! Makes you think, did they change the sheets after the last person was here? I really doubt it. Unfortunately .. Waste of money.
A well located hotel if looking to break a journey south on the A10 / E5. The Hotel is set in attractive grounds with a superb Terrace by the pool to catch the afternoon sun. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The somewhat spartan room was clean and perfectly adequate for a one night stop. However, the hotel is let down by a number factors. The external condition of the property is poor, aging mildewy paint on the rendering, rust on the balcony railings, and rotting wood by way of example. In the bathroom there were no toiletries (just soap in a dispenser), the toilet paper dispenser looked like it had come out of a public loo and their was insufficient hot water to run a bath. The swimming pool, whilst possibly out of season was green, and the sun shades on the terrace were in total disarray and not functioning. I found the restaurant disappointing a with poor selection of dishes on the menu. My goat was overcooked and dry and the rosti frazzled and inedible. The restaurant gave the impression of trying to do everything on the cheap which it wasn't. I expected better from a Best Western.
Disappointed with outside of hotel. Everything is very tired. The staff were helpful in changing our room to a bungalow outside as we had our dog with us and although the room was very cold it was comfortable when the heating had been on for a while. No wifi in the room due to maintenance issues. Consider €10 excessive charge for our dog. Grounds pleasant, reasonable restaurants 5mins drive. Easy to access from N10
The hotel is past its best when it comes to the decor and furnishings wihtin the rooms, coridoors and reception area. it is fairly old fashioned and could do with a spruce up. Te furnshings are straight out of the 1970's - 80's. that said it was clean and tidy with everything woking OK. It is a good location for the main routes and set weel back making it nice and quiet. The restaurant is much more modern and the food served for dinner was excellent and could not be faulted. Very pleasant and helpful staff, with no problems checking in or out. Free wifi worked well. Breakfast is a standard buffet affair with lots of choice with lots of options covered.
Stayed here for two nights on business. Good value hotel and easy to find. Close to the motorway. Clean and tidy. Breakfast was top class as was the evening meal. The staff were helpful with my lack of French. Would stay here again.
Stayed here for one night on our way back to the UK. Conveniently situated just off the motorway. We had asked for a ground floor room and were given one away from the main building. Excellent being able to park in front of the door and nice to have our own little terrace. However the terrace only had one chair - I peeked next door and they all had two. Also the terrace was badly in need of a sweep! The only othere downside was the wifi which was a bit iffy, being away from the main building. On the whole however we were pleased with our choice. The room was reasonably spacious with a separate toilet. The meal in the restaurant that evening was really excellent. It was so nice to be given a choice other than DUCK, DUCK, OR DUCK (we had spent 2 weeks in the Dordogne!). Breakfast was 12 euro which we didn't mind as the room had been a very reasonable 67.50 euro. It was plentiful and good to be offered scrambled egg and sausage as well as the usual continental. The hotel was very, very quiet so the service was excellent. Would I stay there again - defnitely!
Perfect location for a stop-over on your journey to the West coast of France and with nice staff that speak good English. However the building and menu are outdated and both require a good make-over. Meals were served in total disorder. Breakfast was very complete and good.
Stayed one night on our recent trip to France. In the countryside just of motorway. Staff very friendly and informative (no problems with language as Receptionist & waitress in restaurant vg English). Ate in restaurant and had a lovely meal (real French cuisine) and also found breakfast next morning to be your typical continental. We didn't avail of the pool, but walked around grounds,. large green area and some woodland.
We needed a hotel on route to the South and the location for our overnight stay was ideal. Our initial impression on arriving at the hotel was o dear what have we done, the hotel looked tired and the decor in need of an update.. however the pool area and the decking outside of the bar was perfect. We booked a table in the restuarant, the food was excellent, a great menu which was cooked and presented beautifully. The room decor was not to our taste, but it was very clean and we had a good restful sleep. The hotel is very close to the motorway, but we did not hear any traffic noise as it is set within a nice wooded area. All of the staff in the reception and in the restuarant provided excellent service, all in all we were very plesed with the hotel choice.
The hotel is offering good service for location and price. But please avoid the awful restaurant...breakfast is acceptable but not diner. The hotel is clean good standard and quite, easy to find south of Poitiers near the motorway exit.
The location of this hotel is fantastic just off the motorway. The grounds are lovely great for walking the dog. There is a swimming pool and outdoor eating terrace. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Our room was OK, lovely outlook with a balcony, very clean and a very comfy bed however the thing that let it down was the carpet it looked so tatty. The air con was superb and very quiet. We ate dinner & breakfast in the restaurant, there was a bit of a wait between the starter & main but that was fine for us. The food was very good for dinner and I enjoyed the breakfast as I like a continental style breakfast. My Husband likes a hot breakfast and was not impressed with the hot selection. We will definately book this hotel again but I do have to say that a 20 euro charge for a dog is very steep I have never paid this amount before. Also the free wifi is terrible.
