Hotels in Poitiers: what our guests say

Best Western Plus Poitiers Centre Le Grand Hotel
"Right in the middle"

Nick H, 01 Octobre 2026

The hotel is at the end of a one way street, so going there by car means parking the car! Either in the garage of the hotel (limited) or in the public one next to the hotel. In the evening it gets pretty busy there, so turning back is quite impossible. All streets leading to the hotel are quite narrow and some are a bit steep. The hotel itself is not on the street but inside the block. So you walk a few meters through a gate (locked in the evening, code is given) to the reception. Reception was friendly and helpful. After roaming the inner city and the parc (gets closed at 10pm!) we spent a calm night. Breakfast next morning was delayed some minutes as someone did not show up. Reception made the preparations quickly and breakfast was fine. Seems it is even possible to sit outside. However, dont expect much of a view. Due to the traffic situation, I would not visit by car again.

"Alright fir a stop over"

rikiberg, 17 Mai 2026

The hotel was easy to find and park. Friendly staff, and close to the bars and restaurants of the city centre. The rooms were adequate and clean . Breakfast was bountiful, but once items were finished, nobody appeared to be replenishing them.

"All right"

delagioventu, 13 Juillet 2025

Hotel is ok, biggest asset is its position, right in the center. Hotel is a bit worn out, certainly not a four star (whoever gives these stars?). Room was clean. Hotel displays it has parking on site, but does not mention you have to reserve in advance. I insisted (a lot) and was granted a parking. It was allegedly fully booked, but when I passed by late in the evening several places were still available. Beware as well to keep the code they give you, for the garage door but also for the hotel, as they close the outside entrance (at around 20h or something).

"Good Comfortable City Centre Hotel"

Trevor S, 15 Juin 2024

Very central located hotel which the four us found to be ideal for our one night stay. Reception staff were fine and our rooms were a decent size, comfortable and very clean. Not much of a view but on this occasion wasn't really that bothered. Negatives for us was the small towels…please B&W, this hotel is supposed to be a plus in the chain - get those towels upgraded! Finally we couldn't use the hotel parking because our SUV was deemed to big for a single space so had to go in the public car park directly next to the hotel…..huge multi but boy the spaces were very very tight so headed up a few floors where it was quieter.

"Best choice to stay in city center of Poitiers for BW Rewards members"

metal5774, 16 Octobre 2023

Basically, the quality of the room itself, the service, and even the location are excellent. I didn't have breakfast so I can't comment on it, but in the morning there was a nice smell of bread in the hotel, so I can imagine that they probably serve delicious French croissants.

"Poor"

PeterD808, 20 Septembre 2023

Do not understand the positive reviews for this place. Our room (106) was allegedly a Superior King Size room. It might pass as “Superior” in Wormwood Scrubs but for a 4 star hotel? Never. The room decor was drab in the extreme with bare walls and head height windows that overlooked a flat roof. The in room safe was devoid of usage instructions. The only storage available for clothes was a shop style rack! The overhead shower in the wet room shot a cascade of water out of the side of the shower head but nothing out of the actual shower, the hand held shower was a tatty, cheap plastic device. The WC in the separate toilet was not firmly fixed to the floor. Would strongly suggest avoiding this one.

"Great stopover "

cliveandsuzanne, 06 Septembre 2023

Great hotel on the very edge of old town, so a couple of mins walk to main attractions . We had a very large room with great facilities . Innumerable restaurants on the doorstep ( oh le bistro very good) Breakfast excellent with a number of unsolicited kitchen treats ! Staff very helpful, franglais useful.

"Not worth the rate"

Trencita_12, 03 Septembre 2023

Disappointing stay here is putting it mildly - we booked a king suite at a not low rate, and the "sitting room," adjacent to the bedroom had an old broken sofa bed that could not be folded closed, thus making it impossible to use as a place to sit - in addition it had a cigarette burn hole on one cushion, and the thin carpeting was stained in a number of spots. The unadorned drab rooms were reminiscent of a prison waiting room with the cheap carpeting and plain beige walls. We had booked this hotel especially to have a/c and the small wall air conditioner for the bedroom was worse than useless. In fact, we turned it on, closed the door, and came back two hours later to find the bedroom warmer than the sitting room, which had no a/c. When I mentioned it to reception, there was little response. But perhaps the crowning insult was the afternoon desk clerk (British accented), who, when we asked for two glasses for a bottle of wine we purchased at the shop next to the hotel, refused our request, saying at first she didn't have any glasses (there is a bar at the reception desk with a shelf of glasses about three feet away in plain view) and then telling us that she couldn't give us glasses because the hotel patrons "steal them or break them and imbed shards of glass into the carpet and the maids get injured." When I said I had never heard of such a thing, she said it is "common in France." We've traveled many years in France and other European countries and this was a first. To be fair, when one of us went back down to reception to beg for a bit of ice, she relented and gave us two glasses, saying she could get in trouble for doing so. The good - breakfast was a good value for 15euros. The morning reception worker was very cheerful and willing to point us in the direction of the sights in Portiers. Location was great. There are other hotels nearby - I'd check them out before booking this one.
