Guest services was absolutely amazing a gentleman my the name David helped me get a last minute room for the night for my family and I . He was extremely understanding and kind thank you David .. our room was nice and remodeled well worth the stay . I'd definitely recommend
Pretty much only slept there but everything was to my satisfaction. Rooms very clean, requests were handled speedily and the kids especially like the suite design. Decent options for breakfast. Breakfast time can get really crowded. Our room had a decent sized fridge, microwave, stove top, coffee maker. If you're going to make your own hot meals, bring utensils and dishes. Great distance to Legoland, beach, eateries and etc. Would book again.
We booked at another hotel through booking.com 2 weeks prior only to find out upon arrival that the hotel was all booked up and our reservation was cancelled. I called Best Western Carlsbad by The Sea and spoke with David he stated they had a few rooms available. He was very accommodating and provided us a room at 11pm at a discounted rate. I can't thank him enough for providing outstanding customer service. David, thank you so so much!
Great experience with the help by David at the front desk. Drove 8hrs to Legoland and found out my booking was on the wrong date somehow. I was tired and upset. David help me resolved it all and took care of me and my mom. It was a bad start but ended up well. Thank you for taking the time and effort to help your guests!
Great rooms, spacious, clean, great amenities. Great location, always a friendly staff. Stayed here several times, always consistent. Good breakfast, hot food available. Great layout, easy to get around and for the price, you're getting a higher end feel. I love that..
David was very friendly and helpful! He went above and beyond and made my stay even more pleasant. The rooms are very nice and clean. Quiet area..nice for relaxing. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful. Continental breakfast offers a wide variety of options. The grounds are nice and well kept.
Our experience has been great so far, been staying out here for 3 months. The rooms are incredible! We usually stay in the king suites, there perfect for us blue collars who stay out of town for work. 100% recommend coming here and asking for david at the front desk. He is always looking forward to accommodating you in the room that best fits your traveling needs.
Our stay was wonderful! The customer service, from David at the front desk in particular was amazing. He quickly helped us out with a reservation mishap on my end and saved the day. The other staff that I encountered were also so helpful and friendly. As for the rooms, they are extremely clean with just enough space. I would definitely stay here again as the location, rooms, price and customer service were fantastic.
My overall stay was great. We were on the side of the freeway which is noisey but I didn't mind it, it helps me sleep. I wish the 2 bdrm had cooking utensils for the room, that would be so helpful. The staff was super nice.
Went on a 2 night stay for Legoland and got way more than what I expected. The pool and spa were open late for a good time after the theme park. David and the staff were great with the accommodations we asked for. The breakfast buffet was more than I expected with different choices of food each morning. We also got complimentary water and snacks. I'll definitely be staying here again on my next visit to Legoland.
I made a mistake with my room reservation and David was very kind & professional. He was able to fix my mistake and make my accommodation. This Best Western have soft towels, comfortable bed & bedding! Not only very clean, the room & property was clean & well maintained.
First of all, I've stayed at this Best Western before and had no issues. This time was different. Upon check-in, I was upgraded to a two-bedroom suite because I'm a Best Western Diamond member. I was staying by myself, so I didn't need the two bedrooms, but okay, no big deal. When I got to my room, I noticed each bedroom had a bathroom. One of the bathrooms had a small hole in the wall to the right as you enter. I took a picture of it. In the other bathroom, the faucet wasn't anchored down and moved all over if you tried to use it. I was only staying two days and made it work. But I went down to the lobby and showed the woman at the front desk the picture I'd taken of the hole in the wall. She looked confused, then apologized and said she'd let maintenance know about it. I told her it didn't bother me, since again, there were two bathrooms. But I wanted to show her so I didn't get charged for it because I certainly didn't do it. She said not to worry and that I wouldn't be charged. Here we are two days later, and there's a $150 charge to my credit card. I called the hotel and the person that answered said I was charged because they found a hole in the wall. I explained my conversation with the front desk person and how I pointed it out. He said to call back at 10am and speak with her. Called back at 10:15 and he told me she wasn't coming in and to call back tomorrow. I plan on doing that, but it's not going to change my review. The hotel is in a great location and even though it's a little run down, it's fine. But after this experience, I don't plan on going back.
David at the front desk was excellent. He is attentive, intelligent, quick, communicative, and understands great customer service. He went out of his way to assist us and made sure to exceed our expectations for all our needs as travelers. Since I was told they are in need of a general manager at this hotel, I strongly recommend David be promoted to GM. He knows the property and the ways to improve it. No one else at this hotel comes close to him. Thank you for your expertise!
I chose this hotel because of the location and the kitchen in the room. Not just a microwave and tiny fridge but full kitchen to cook. I stayed Monday thru Friday and wanted to be able to cook a little as well as go out to enjoy the area. So let's break it down as quick and straightforward forward as possible. Pros: Location Price Kitchen Clean Nice gym Cons/things to improve Pots, pans, utensils, plates weren't in the room. You have to call and ask for them but you don't get Bowls or actual glasses. You just get the tiny plastic cup or the little disposable cups for coffee. The satellite/cable was down from early Tuesday to late Wednesday night. This sucked more than I thought it would. Getting updates from staff was nonexistent so you have to call for updates that were never really updates. I was given 50 bucks off my final bill for the inconvenience though. The staff are... friendly but don't feel genuine in my opinion. Overall I don't know if I would or wouldn't stay here again. The staff feeling like they really don't care about the guests is a big deal to me. Give me a clean functional room, a safe area and staff who genuinely care and I'm a happy person.
stayed 4nights every morning we hard Good breakfast great coffee. had big rooms full kitchen and separate bedrooms. enjoyed the spa with my family. everyone was nice great service. kids liked the stay too
Hotel is near the 5 freeway. If your room is on the east side of the property the freeway noise will be deafening. The room was clean, but worn. Price was good, but hotel including lobby needs a makeover badly.
I had a suite which is small but clean. Quiet hotel i was on the top or 3rd floor. Staff was very nice and quick to help. Average amenities which you should expect from a Best Western. Breakfast was adequate but repetitive.
As a returning guest, I have yet to be disappointed. Staff is really pleasant to work with, and very accommodating. First visit a few years ago for Mothers Day with family was one for the books! Family and I will be visiting again soon. Got to rack up my points!
Excellent location for business or pleasure. Fresh and clean room with comfortable bedding. All the amenities and utilities included were working as intended. Exhaust fan in bathroom and AC unit in room is a personal favorite to have when on a long stay away from home. Exceeded expectations.
I love everything about this hotel. From the warm welcome from the front desk agent to the clean and comfortable room. I really like the pancakes or waffle for breakfast. They were soft and sweet. I was there for a wedding and my friend who was getting enjoyed it so much that he extended his stay for an extra week.
Excellent front desk service from David. Great hotel. Fantastic help from all the staff. Super location and facilities. Do not hesitate to book this hotel. If you're staying for business or pleasure it serves both perfectly.
David at the the front desk he is awesome guy let us check in early I really appreciate him I bring my family for Lego land and stay close to beach it's just perfect the hotel it's also close to the mall and to the train station
Nice customer service, David was helpful, let us check in early and the location is really close to Legoland. Rooms are big and looked really clean, lots to choose from for breakfast options as well.
We arrived sooner than expected and David was a great help in getting us checked In quickly. We booked specifically for Legoland and my son for a special Lego gift from David at time of check in.
My name is Josie and I'm very satisfied with my stay here at Best Western Carlsbad by the sea very clean very nice it has anything you need for a stay very close to the beach friendly environment smoke free David at the front desk was just an amazing guy very helpful, respectful, answer all my questions and was able to get me a room super fast I'm very pleased with his service 100% will recommend this Hotel ✨
Some of the best customer we've ever had. David and Katie are an asset to the Best Western organization. They both went out of their way to help us adjust our reservations due to our arriving early with our very tired grandkids. Thanks David and Katie for your extraordinary service and attention to your customers needs.
This hotel is very Close to freeway, close to the mall free parking close to legoland close to the beach very accessible to eveything. Easy check in experience and was able to check in early today with Davids help. Facility lobby is very clean and nice. David is very helpful in check in and helped us find a great room.
Perfect service.. especially David behind the desk did do a great job.. When I arived and my company forgot to reserve a room, David fixed it..A very nice room offer.. Thanks again for the perfect service.
Great stay! David checked us in, and was very friendly and accommodating. Pool was nice and warm for an evening swim. Room was very clean, beds were really comfortable. Gym is really nice. Continental breakfast is top notch. Katy was at the front desk in the morning, and was warm and welcoming. We always choose Best Western because we always have a good experience and get a good value.
Everything exceeded my expectations especially the fabulous customer service by Katie and David and the quality, quantity and varied daily breakfast menus! The pool and spa area was beautiful with multiple shaded seating areas.
Took a time for myself (no kids) It was very restful night, the place was clean and a lot movie channels to enjoy. My friends enjoyed the time, also close to the beach, we enjoyed the walk and a warm shower Thank you
The rooms are incredibly in poor condition. Huge stains on the carpet, bathroom door would not close, our shower broke 2 days into our stay so we had to move rooms, no kitchen utensils, fridge light broken, lights would randomly turn off and on, chipped pain etc etc.
Do not stay here. Stay anywhere along this street better than this. Husband and I needed a few nights away I had a promo so chose this but.... The room was small we had a kitchen and only to wake up the middle of night all kinds of roaches in kitchen!!! We packed up o demanded my money back at front desk they have kids working front desk. The kid didn't even know how to do a refund he had to call manager in middle of night. We had to wait. The pool was gross never saw it cleaned had sand at bottom the first day with about 20 kids from the beach jumping in. Breakfast girl was great she had it nicely stocked. I did get a refund. But they should not have roaches.
I am San Diego North County local, stayed most of the Best Westerns in North County, and now I wanted to check this Carlsbad one. The location (close to the beach) is great, very short walk. Ralph supermarket around the corner. Right off Freeway (this makes the place a bit noisy…but very convenient). The lady who checked me in was very friendly (did not ask her name…) I asked if this BW had “bathtub” because I wanted to take a bath and some of Newer BW do not have tubs (only shower). And I was told this location has Tub so I was very happy. I was ready to take a bath and realized that they did not have tub stopper….I called the front desk. After a couple of tries, I was able to get the stopper after 3 hrs or so. As soon as I checked in the room, I realized this “distinctive” smell, cannot pin point exactly what it was but it was not pleasant….I set up the “desk” area for work and found out the “Desk light” was broken. I called the front desk immediately, and they fixed it quite quickly, which I appreciated it. There are no daily housekeeping, and you need to request (I did not). I needed more Hair Conditioners and “sugar/cream” packets (for those room coffee). I found the housekeeping staffs and asked her if I could have extra hair conditioners and Sugar. We could not communicate, unfortunately. I tried, gesturing playing like “Charades”? But she did not understand. If the hotel could just briefly train the staffs with just a basic room necessities in English in the future, that could be really helpful, I thought. There was some construction (or cleaning?) going on with the pool/hot tubs (you can NOT use them). There were construction noises throughout my stay. Since the hotel is located right off freeway, it gets quite noisy which is 24/7, I 5 is a very busy freeway. Free parking, which is wonderful! And free breakfast, which is also fabulous. From my experiences, it is a bit over-priced for what you get. The staffs I encountered during my stay were really nice and friendly, thank you. I used Fitness Facility. There were 3 cardio machines and the machine was placed very spaciously, which was nice. And it was clean.
Won't stay here again. Chose this property because it advertised a hot tub. Checked it our first day and it wasn't on. Was told it would be working soon, it wasn't ever heated up enough. Also, our room smelled very musty. We should have requested a room change immediately, but we were tired and hoped it would air out. It didn't. They did offer a good rate though, so if you do stay make sure your room smells ok before you move all your stuff in. You also have to request housekeeping if you want more towels or your room straightened- I wasn't told that when I checked in. I thought the bed was comfortable.
There is a substantial amount of freeway noise that is heard in the room and it made it difficult to sleep. The room was nice and clean but the bathroom faucet was leaking, the tub stopper would not stay up so the water would not drain in the tub, there was mold on the tile and the shower head was pulling away from the wall. They did say they would have it looked at but I find it hard to believe that these issues would not be found when they clean the room. Seems as though repairs are not handeled.
Had a three day stay planned for a medical procedure in Carlsbad for a functional quadriplegic. Spoke with Cynthia Hack and she went the extra mile to get a handicapped room set up with everything required. On arrival, the room was not ready, we went to the room to leave our luggage and was a disaster, things on the floor, beds in disarray, trash on the floor and a general dirty feeling. They said they would clean it immediately and Cynthia was not on duty at that time. She was contacted off duty and came and confirmed the disaster. She found another room that was an upgrade and did not charge for the upgrade and made sure the maximum to help us was done. Had it not been for her extra effort and commitment this would have been a scathing one star review.
Super nice staff(very accommodating), clean hotel and upgraded. About 7- 10 min walk to beach and amenities. Would definitely recommend to all. The price was great too! Best price for hotels in southern so- cal
I recently stayed here for 3 nights and wasn't even able to stay the last night due to the bugs and mold. The hotel offered me a small portion of my payment back but refused to give a full reimbursement. They also moved me to a different room due to the mold being “highly toxic” but only moved me a few doors down. I would stay far away from this location if you are in the area.
very friendly and a little quietly hotel, reasonable price with hot breakfast. frontdesk very sweet and warmly greeting. Easy parking, nice swimming pool, and close to freeway, you can go anywhere in San Diego.
The room was spacious and well furnished. The staff was nice and friendly. The breakfast was pretty good as well. I really enjoyed staying and definitely would stay here again if I am back in the area. Highly recommend.
Our stay was wonderful. We were walking distance from beach to see a beautiful sunset Restaurants we're close by. Freeway close by made it easy to find hotel. Wonderful breakfast. First time I have seen pancakes at a Best Western made fresh
Nice breakfast as there were many items to choose from like pancakes, sauages, bagels. Eggs, potatoes. Orange juice, coffee, milk and several other items. The pool area was clean with towels. Parking area was well lit.
The hotel is nice the suites are equipped with everything a big fridge stove, sink, huge room, the AC works perfectly we had to turned it off because it got cold. Its very centralized to everything and about 5 min walk to the beach.
Enjoy our stay. Clean room, comfortable beds, good breakfast, clean pool/hot tub. Friendly staff. We arrived late at 1:30am and he was so kind to show us where to park and helped my husband and son take our bags up to our room. We definitely will stay here again.
The grounds are well kept, the breakfast was good, the staff is friendly and helpful. The problem was the furniture in room was uncomfortable making the stay uncomfortable. We had booked six nights but left after one because of that. Upgrade the furniture and it's not a bad place.
room smelled of smoke. stains on carpet. bad paint. refridgerator doors on backwards. no hot water in bath sink. Really quite depressing condition. I could not recommend this Best Western t o a friend.!!! Quoted $190 on line and the actual bill was $273 per night! TERRIBLE VALUE AND CONDITION!!!
Noticed a person flashing there light at random vehicles, didn't look like he was a security at the location Ac in the room wasn't working properly Furniture looked old and needs to be replaced also didn't like that I was given a room with full size beds when I requested queen
Room was musty, took a few days of fan running to get rid of it. Full kitchen is nice but it had no utensils. One of remotes could not change channels. The cable channels did not come in consistently. Internet did not work until after I spent 45 minutes on phone with the ISP. Front office service was good.
Hotel is conveniently located to the beach, stores in the Carlsbad area. We were in the area for a baseball tournament. The hotel amenities fit exactly what we were looking for. Comfortable rooms, hearty breakfast and nice pool area. Great place for a team to stay
DO NOT get a room on pool side unless you want noise and disturbance late into the night. It was like sleeping next to a railroad with luggage moving and very loud voices until 2am. Room with musty smell. Breakfast poor for a vegetarian. Worst Best Western we have stayed in. Some compensation was offered for the partying, but not enough to offset loss of sleep for which we paid. Pillows in bed - marginal
This location was lacking in may ways, from staff at the counter on their own devices and not interested in the customer in front of them, to the sticky carpet and broken fixtures, super loud highway traffic, just overall, find a different hotel if your in the area
Hotel rooms are outdated and need repairs/updates. Original room had broken shower head and room smelled old and moldy. Changed rooms and new room was decent but noise from freeway behind hotel was loud. Could hear guests outside room at pool very loudly.
The staff is friendly and helpful. the room was clean smells good and has more space. my family was enjoying staying there at best western hotel. thank you SERGIO for all your help. everything in this hotel was perfect.
For a quick in and out experience, I recommend this clean Best Western facility - right off the 5 freeway and close to numerous little restaurants. The rates for the room were great, the space in the King suite was nice for two people, but breakfast was not really edible.
The beds were absolutely horrible. The mattresses should have been changed out months ago! All the pillow were some kind of thick cheap stuffing which made it difficult to sleep on without a neck ache. The noise level of people chomping up and down the stairs, kids running around screaming and the noise from the ice machine went on from 8pm until 1am in the morning for two nights straight. The lighting in the room was poor, the kitchenette included a fridge, cookstove top and mini dishwasher but not one utensil, plate or pan - go figure! All the furnishing in the room were cheap and uncomfortable. The door between the bedroom and kitchen would not stay closed. And what kind of motel or hotel does not offer guests tea bags either in the room or at the hot breakfast bar? Best Westerns used to have a good reputation but not anymore. Will never stay at this place again.
The staff is friendly and helpful, but that's about the only positive. One of the towels in the bathroom had a dark dirt smudge on it. There was hair in the bathtub. And, the worst part is that it took a total of 15 minutes (!) in the morning to get hot water. The water was freezing cold for 5 min so I called the front desk. He advised me to 'just let it run until it got hot". It took all of 15 min until it was at least lukewarm. With the drought going on in CA, this is completely unacceptable. For the thousands of gallons of water they must waste per week, I think it would be far more advisable to add an inline heater to the lines. On top of that, since I'm a Best Western member, I received an email after check in, telling me if I would give them a "10" rating on the review they would send me, that they would add 1000 points to my membership points. So, in other words, they're now bribing people to give them a positive review. This means, you can't actually get a correct rating on the particular hotel.
The motel itself is fine, staff are courteous, but some basic maintenance items seem to be ignored. Loose toilet seat, non-working phone, bath light bulb out, terrible, archaic TV. Decent breakfast, bed was comfortable, room seemed clean.
Rooms were extremely clean and accommodating and smelled good, compared to others hotels we have stayed before. Loved that the kitchenette and bed were in a separate room. Breakfast options were good also.
Staff was excellent! The hotel was a disappointment. Room very outdated and dark. Mattress seemed old. Parking lot needs attention. Jacuzzi out of order, had to walk across street to use neighboring hotel. Bathroom repair fixed quickly and great customer service.
I definitely recommend this hotel. We were there due to our home being fumigated. We stayed in a unit on the 3rd floor away from the freeway side, so it was quiet enough. Our unit had an apartment size refrigerator with a freezer that we needed and were so glad to get. It was well maintained and clean. I especially enjoyed the very friendly staff which made our stay pleasant and the breakfast had a decent variety of choices. I would stay there again.
We stayed at the BH Carlsbad (3 nights) for Sectionals swim meet and it was a great time here. The rooms were VERY clean and quiet every night. The full kitchen is awesome and the flat screens TV's were great..if you get the suite the seperate bedroom is awesome. The included breakfast was perfect and delicious, when we were there they had omelletes, sausage, french toast (hot) and your usual cold items (cereal, yogurt, toast, bagels, bananas)..the coffee station is plenty good. For the price of the 3 nights this is a a definite worth. We look to staying here for next year's Sectional. I know for those swimmer parents reading the reviews - this place is good and very easy to manuever around..the drive to Alga Norte was only 10 minutes and no traffic. Perfect place for the swim family.
I've stayed here before two years ago and it was ok. This stay showed how a business can change. The rooms a small and outdated. The second day when we returned there were no clean towels or coffee in the room. I went to the front desk and looked in some cabinets and said that he couldnt find any and told me I could go to the market and buy some! Second day say thing. Third day the same thing. This time though the front desk said it was probably due to covid.....cant make this stuff up. Fourth day I gave up. I will never stay here again. Try Motel 6 it's probably a better deal.
We stayed 2 nights at the best western Carlsbad by the sea to visit legoland and we thought it was a great hotel from checking in to checking out. The breakfast was amazing and the apple juice there is the best apple juice we've ever had. The only thing I wish they did was put families on the bottom floor for the simple fact that kids jump around and people under us probably don't want to hear them jumping off the beds or running around. But all in all we would stay there again!! It was close to the beach and a mile from legoland!
Love the fact that they have Kitchens in their rooms! The staff is helpful, The breakfast is satisfying. They have laundry, nice pool area and fitness center. It is a few minutes from the beach. We like Carlsbad!
Breakfast, pool and hot tub were excellent amenities. Katie, Patrick and Hector accommodated my personal requests. To each of them, thank you. Room was super clean and staff was 5 star friendly. Hotel location is close to beach.
The hotel was very close to the village and the outlet shops. The hotel and the room were clean and the staff was very nice. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was very good. I would definitely stay there again.
Lovely and welcoming place! We stayed at The BW Carlsbad for two nights but wished we had stayed there our whole visit to California. The room was lovely and spacious and clean as a whistle. Katie at the front desk was welcoming and courteous in a genuine way. We ran into a housekeeper “Dora” who was absolutely the MVP of the hotel. She was attentive and kind in a way that really enlighten our stay. The breakfast was a nice touch. The location was perfect, too, people wanting to take in all the historic sites. We would gladly stay here again. Read less
A great place to stay! The suites were affordable and the staff incredible. Breakfast is also included with your stay. Someone is available at front desk 24/7 and they pick up the phone on the first ring. Highly recommend!
My only complaint is rooms are getting a little tired and need updated. Room was great, service was great. Breakfast was good. Everything worked. We didn't spend a lot of waking time in the room and can't speak to the television at all.
This room was ok, but nothing to remember. The decor was outdated and there was several places that you could tell repairs were needed. Our sofa bed did not work and when we received a roll out bed, it did not include sheets or blankets. We were told that since we ordered a room with a kitchen we could get all supplies needed for cooking except bowls, but after calling and asking for these items several times they were never delivered so we ended up eating out the entire time, adding over $350 to our trip as a group of 6. Plus the food we brought to cook went untouched. If you just need a bed to sleep in, these will work in a pinch, but next time we will look for better accommodations for our family.
Throw up was left on the living room wall. An old customer's door card key was left on top of the refrigerator. Found hair on tub & shower walls found a broken vape cartridge and dirty written on napkin under our bed. The room was NEVER sanitized or disinfected. It was TERRIBLE!
Really good experience, would give excellent rating but there was little things in the rooms that need to be checked regularly. If I reported it I'm sure they would have fixed it. We had an issue with AC unit and the replaced the whole unit.
The sheets were stained & old. The sheets had a bad odor to them. The sofa bed sheets had stains & there was an old sock under the sofa bed & food under it. It was obvious they have never vacuumed under the sofa bed…
Service was great and rooms were very neat and clean I refer this place to all friends and family all the above and very satisfied with motel give it five stars all around. This is a place I'll definitely come back to you.
I read the reviews before my stay so I kinda knew what to expect. This is definitely not my type of hotel. I don't mind staying at the Best Western, but this one was gross and needs to be remodeled or shut down. I went with a soccer team so the rate was good for a 5-night stay, but I rather have paid a little more for a cleaner, better experience. My toilet ran non-stop. It would stop for a second and then come back on. I did notify the front desk but they really didn't fix it. I also took a bath while I was just trying to take a shower. The water would not drain while I was taking a shower. They should definitely have hard wood floors, but there's nasty carpet. And the carpet in my room had a nasty dark stain. Like someone try to clean that up. My son's room had different colored stains on the furniture. Yuck! Another room had a roach but I don't know if that's normal for that area but yuck again. The free breakfast was not great. They need to provide more protein type options. Based on the location of this hotel, you would think it would be a lot more fancy and clean and nice, but it is not.
This Best Western is less that 1/4 of a mile form the ocean. Great location. The actual motel has some wear and tear. The breakfast was pretty good for the price. Housekeeping never came and I had to go directly to housekeeping and brush up on my Spanish to get extra large towels, pillows and bed sheets. I think it is one of the most affordable for Carlsbad, California.
Good location, very closed to Legoland, and to the beach, we have a good breakfast, the staffs are friendly and accommodating and very quick to our requests. My grandchildren like the beds, and we have kitchen that also convenient for our family dinner.
I don't think it's deserves 1 star rating. The room was overpriced for the quality of room. I've seen hostile rooms nicer. The floor was so dirty I wore my socks when I touched the floor then threw them away. I did not let any of my belongings to include shoes and luggage to stay on the floor. I kept everything on the counter but I felt it was cleaner. I would definitely not recommend this hotel for children or adults.
Walking in alone as a woman was a bit scary. I've never stayed in a hotel alone before so once I checked in. I didn't leave until the next day in daylight. The outside seemed a bit sketchy. But the room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast is gross. Coffee was good
A non- smoking room that reeked of smoke with the smoke detector covered with a plastic bag, no shower curtain, no bath towels, and such humidity in the room that the floors and sheets felt clammy. We tried to switch rooms, but the only one available made us want to throw up upon opening the door due to smelling like wet dog, mildew, and smoke. The couch cushions were so disgusting we covered them with a sheet. The quilt on the bed had makeup and other reddish marks on it that were discovered when removing the sheet for the couch. The smell and humidity couldn't be mitigated by opening the windows because all other guests around us seemed to be smoking, have dogs, or both. If there had been any other room at any other hotel available in the area, we would have left immediately. I was given 2 towels for a family of 4 and a can of air freshener. My whole family woke up with headaches, sore throats, and stuffy noses from the cigarette smoke smell in the room. I will never stay at a Best Western again. It was completely unacceptable.
We chose this place because it was reasonably priced snd had enough room for our family of six. Will not return due to size of the room, bugs (like many, many bugs) in the room, uncomfortable mattresses and the worst sofa bed we've experienced.
Had am amazing experience!!! I couldnt have asked for a better hotel. It was walking distance from the beach and an amazing hotel to stay at! I cant wait to go back again next year. I completely recommend this hotel if you want to visit the beach!
- Rooms are not getting cleaned during the stay (7 days) and no towels exchanged unless you chase the room service - Sofa bed had no pillows and blankets (and the bed was not straight once pulled out) - Kitchen had nothing in there (no dishes or anything) - TV remote was broken - 1 AC was not working called several times no action - Water was coming out of the smoke detector (got it fixed in 2 hours) - pool is dirty and not often fresh towels available - hotel is dated and old - breakfast was the only highlight: good service and cleanness
This hotel is currently under renovation and seems to be understaffed. I would not recommend for a week long stay like ours but 1 or 2 nights would be ok. Housekeeping did not show up to our room until the 5th day of our stay after multiple requests. The suite we stayed in had a an old foldout sofa bed that needed replaced. The bed however was new & comfortable. Breakfast was crowded but had good choices - oddly they had no bread for toast but plenty of bagels? Overall the experience was underwhelming but I was told new management had just taken over I believe this location to be trending up for quality but they have a way to go. The staff is very friendly and helpful but maybe a bit overwhelmed right now.
Very close to the beach. Nice pool. Good breakfast. Kept us supplied with towels and other needs, though COVID restrictions prevented room cleaning during our stay. The rooms are very small, but clean. Coffee maker useless.
The room size was good and our family for nicely. However, there were cockroaches throughout our room. There was nothing that the staff could do right then. We won't be coming back until this problem is solved. The location is great but what does it matter if you can't enjoy the room. I haven't stayed in a best western in years and thought I'd try with family. It is sad to say but it is a best western, so my expectations were not high and this room was even below my expectations.
We stayed four nights, and our room was not cleaned once. We requested it be cleaned three days in a row and for various reasons it was not cleaned. (Personal items in room, cleaning service contracted out, they did clean it) We were given trash bags and towels for the room. The police were at the motel daily. The first night we were put in a room that had fecal matter under the bed. We were moved to another room the second night because they had no place to move us that night. Aside from the room issues, the staff we did interact with were helpful and friendly.
This Best Western has several prostitutes regularly working on the East wing. We have stayed here on several occasions in May and June. There are more prostitutes and sexual solicitations each time we stayed. We could not safely use the pool area. This is a dangerous and horrible place to bring children. CAUTION IS ADVISED WITH YOUNG CHILDREN. The hotel management did not respond to complaints.
great hotel. Staff is very nice. People staying here are quite. Very comfortable beds. The rooms feels and looks clean. The showers are nice and clean. They gave a lot of TV channels. Fast internet. Staying here is pleasant.
We checked in for two nights on our way south to San Diego. The staff was awesome and helpful and held packages for me and gave us great food tips. The hotel was in an easy location right by the beach and the village and parking was a breeze even in our huge SUV. We could walk to the Village and the boardwalk. It was a perfect spot.
The room was not clean I spent an hour wiping down everything with disinfectant wipes I brought and then to top it off they had mold on the ceiling. My child has asthma so we had to leave for her safety.
Checked in and first room smelled like an ash tray. Moved to second room and came across two roaches during the night. Some spots were missed by housekeeping from the previous guest. Doors to bedroom and bathrooms did not align well and had trouble open and closing them.
We stayed at the Carlsbad Best Western due to the proximity to Legoland. Our experience was not good here. There was a lot of cigarette and marijuana smoke from other guests that permeated into our room. We asked for room deodorizer and housekeeping was off work. The smoke detector went off in our room at 7 am. in the morning. There was no remote in the room. The room phone didn't work because the cord was missing. The sofa was dirty and hard bus bench quality. I wish I could say something nice, but I really can't about this hotel. I will not be staying here ever again.
Property is pretty run down. Bathroom door would not close, completely visible while in the restroom. Couch was heavily soiled. Permanent residents living there, looked like prostitution & drugs. Only 1 roll of toilet paper & 2 towels for 3 people staying 2 days. I'd pay more for something nicer.
This hotel stay was just what my family and I needed! There was plenty of room for everyone and very comfortable. Also, it was close enough to everything so we did not have to spend too much time in the car to get to the attractions.
Room rate was a good value for the area. Comfortable bed and linens. Hotel lobby, breakfast grab & go station, and pool area were sparkling clean. But room itself had stained carpet, smudges on window, residue on TV console, and a hair in the sink. I didn't report this on-site, due to blase responses from employees about issues regarding guest communication and customer service. Need better way to monitor guests using the pool, rather than leaving one gate open and simply having time slots assigned (due to COVID/social distancing), as various people were randomly coming in to use the pool who didn't sign up. Had to ask for pool towels twice. Didn't see instructions for using breakfast area, had to wait for someone to come out to serve the food. Overall, customer service was lacking, and communication to guests about some basic issues/amenities was missing. Seemed like management didn't care much about guest service, unapologetic when issues were mentioned. This is not the experience I'm used to when staying at Best Western.
For the price this hotel was great! I've stayed in much pricier hotels that aren't this large. I had a king/kitchenette room. Having the sink, microwave and large fridge/freezer when traveling with kids is amazing. We didn't feel cramped in this room since the bedroom is separate from the living/kitchen area. I also appreciated the large lighted mirror area outside of the bathroom. This allowed me to do face/hair while someone utilized the bathroom for showers or tooth brushing. Grab and go breakfast isn't the best after being used to a hot breakfast buffet, but I really appreciate them still offering quite a few options. This saves a lot of money rather than having to purchase breakfast at a restaurant every morning. Would recommend this hotel for budget minded families for sure
I don't know how to phrase this properly: this is a good hotel--just good. We stayed in a King room. The room was small, but very clean. Even though our room faced the pool, and not the freeway, we could clearly here the freeway in our room. It didn't bother us, we thought of it as white noise--but I could see it bothering others. There's nothing special here, but nothing amiss. Our rate was fantastic--$71 for a Saturday night.
We have stayed at this location many times before. During this covid era they had to reduce their breakfast selection. However you still get a good variety of cereals, juices, milk and breakfast sandwiches. As always the staff is very friendly and accommodating. This location is within walking distance to shopping and beach.
This was a amazing experience with a amazing front desk staff. She was very helpful with acknowledging the Covid-19 process and the open amenities on site and the process of using them. She was amazing. However the room was not cleaned No clean towels trash was in the trash can and the refrigerator had some type of soda spill
We had a two bedroom suite and little roach bugs were everywhere in the kitchen and some in the bathrooms. We had washed the counters before going to sleep but they appeared once the lights were off. The rooms were way to small, one bedroom door couldn't even open fully. Rooms were dingy and the one narrow uncomfortable sofa was stained. We wouldn't sit on it until we covered it with the bedspread.
Phone had no cord, no place to plug in the coffee maker, no directions to how to turn on the shower--you had to pull down on the water spigot. All that after moving rooms due to a smoke detector that could not be fixed.
I really was impressed with the knowledge and courteous manner of the Front Desk Staff when I called ahead to make the reservation. They gave me the correct information about their incidental policy and what amenities were closed due to COVID. The suite was quite spacious and I enjoyed being able to cook. I would like to suggest that glasses or ceramic mugs are included in the dish set and that the housekeeping staff changed the sheets as mine were not. I washed themself as I was too tired to switch rooms. The second area that can be improved is to have security as I observed any homeless people in the parking lot camping out and their kids running around the halls. To be fair, this seems to be an issue with majority of the hotels in California due to COVID. I would most certainly come again as this property has great potential and offers an amazing value for business travelers such as myself.
Looking for a nice hotel near the beach, I thought this fit the bill. But after we checked in we noticed the elevator did not work. We went to the stairs and had to step over vomit. The rooms have outdoor hallways and are small and nondescript. The only nice thing about it was it had a mini fridge. The TV was difficult to operate. Channels had to be input as a two digit number, followed by a hypen, then a three digit number. Took me forever to figure this out. Several "long term" residents (read homeless) that wander the property. One corner of the front parking lot is where the trash is...and there's alot of trash. Couches, dumpsters, and other furniture fill that section of the parking lot. The hotel clerks were very cordial and polite and a couple of blocks south is a nice shopping center with plenty of restaurants and groceries.
The f is wrong with this place. Seriously. We get there and get a nonsmoking room. What do u expect smells like smoke. And me and my bro get fleas all over us and our stuff my legs are coverd in bites. The jacuzzi has dead bugs and a coke can in there the colors a brownish blueish. The pools full of leaves and other crap. Room 309 is ours. Only there for 30 min max. This place is garbage. The other rooms were nice but smelt like smoke. DONT GO HERE ITS HOT STEAMING GARBAGE!!!!
platinum members never once had a problem . But the best western by the sea was not good they let a family of a lot of people live there and they had the whole complex dirty . Partying outside no respect
Made a big mistake staying here before reading the reviews. The rooms are disgusting, there is trash everywhere and it's FAR from the beach. It's also very sketchy and It appears half the staff actually lives there and chain smokes even though it's advertised as a smoke free hotel. Also other families are living there long term. But if you're looking for quality this is not it.
My husband, dog and I tried to take a quick impromptu covid escape to the beach, definitely learned my lesson! We initially were trying to stay at a different Best Western location that Google said accepted pets. We were diverted here by reception. I wished we had taken more time to look at reviews, but we were excited to get out of the house. The hotel is definitely run down and acts as a long term residence for many folks. There's trash all through the parking lot and hallways. Our room had a musty smell that was made worse by the AC. The walls are very thin, you can hear the sound of the freeway and people yelling all night. The worst part is our room had fleas! I can't believe we actually paid money to stay here!!
We always stay at best western hotels and have even stayed at this location before the epidemic but this stay was beyond one of the worst 2 nights we originally got a room that had broken window screens and as soon as you open the door the strong smell of cat urine and cigarettes hit you to the point of feeling sick. It was horrible. I walked back to reception and complained they gave me a different room that didn't have the smell of cat urine but still had a strong odor of cigarettes and mildew, they offered me another room which smelled just as bad I had no choice but to stay since we had no other choice. during the middle of the night people were outside drinking and being loud. I usually dont mind people having fun but the type of people who were walking around like zombies were also hitting the window where we slept. This stay by far is really making me second guess staying at another Best Western again. I feel like I paid way to much to experience such a horrible stay.
Everything is good with this hotel except that the room we ended up with reeked of smoke (and this was supposed to be a non-smoking room). All our clothes (including unused ones in bags) reeked of smoke once we left the hotel. This had been a great stay if it hadn't been for the smoke issue.
The name is misleading. This is more inland than “by the sea”, really. There's another Best Western that's really across from the beach and really facing the ocean and that's the one that should be named “by the sea” lol. This BW should remove the “by the sea” from its name. This was the old Ramada hotel and got rebranded as BW when they got bought by the conglomerate, obviously. Rooms were renovated back in October 2019 according to their website and the 1-bedroom suite with a kitchenette and separate bedroom with a king-size bed along with the 55” TVs on the wall in the bedroom and in the living room are a nice touch. There were no kitchenware available though so that defeats the purpose of the kitchenette unless, of course, if you brought your own pots and pans lol. Overall, it's worth checking out. The beach is less than 5mi away.
I had the opportunity to spend 3 nights with my points, locally, due to my hours being cut & being way too close to my family for a litttttleee too long! I needed a quick break so I decided to give here a shot! I thought both ladies at check in 4/6 and check out 4/8 were great! Very approachable and accommodating. I had to call the front desk at 12AM because of my rowdy neighbors and the gentlemen on 4/8 took great care of it! I did move rooms for tonight. The pool was closed, gym was closed, food was limited, ALL to be expected with the current times but just to note, they DO have all of that which is great! And laundry, vending machines, MAPS of the place so you know where your going!! and just cozy rooms. I think the best way to start off a getaway is to enjoy the staff. And I did! Thanks!
I'm gonna start off by saying, Angelica at the front desk is great. Super good experience checking in and all. Room is alright, super noisy by the freeway.. but that's not my only complaint unfortunately. After 7 hours at LEGOLAND with my 5 year old, all she wanted to do was go to the pool and swim... she's a little fish so she LOVES the water... well, there's only a couple towels in the room and no pool towels available that were of convenience.. so when we got back to our room to shower from the pool, cold and wet... I thought “oh I should call the front desk and see if they can bring some towels bc we had to use the towels for the pool”... I call and ask if we can get some more towels please and the lady on the other end says “yeah you can come get them at the front desk, they are Up here” in a RUDE as hell tone.... yeah well, guess what.. I've worked in hotels for about 4 years. From the motel 6 to a 4 star by the beach in pismo... that's NEVER OK! I can understand if there was no other staff to bring them and if that's the case, that's fine... but what she SHOULD of said instead was “yes ma'am, I am the only staff on duty right now and I am unable to leave the desk, would you mind coming up here and getting some?” That would of been fine... but when I say “uh, ok, I guess we can go get some” and she says “yeah bye.” That's NOT ok. I was going to be staying here at the hotel every LEGOLAND trip which will be about twice a month but you lost a customer. She sucks. And ruined it. Her name is weird and starts with Lok. Didn't get the rest. When I went in to get towels, there was a man there talking to her and it seemed to be a personal visitor of hers. I'm NOT happy. Best western, she's NOT an asset to your hotel. Lost a costumer, and if I could check out now and go next door, I WOULD!
A very nice well kept surprise location. The breakfast and pool areas were what one would expect to find at a much more expensive facility. Looking forward to coming back over the years to come. Thank you
My stay was enjoyable and comfortable. The first morning for breakfast was extremely crowded, but I think that is to be expected for a Sunday morning. There is noise from the freeway at nighttime, but that didn't keep me awake at all. I did notice the rooms that are closest to the freeway have double windows. My room, I think, was the third room in from the side closest to the freeway. .
Extremely friendly and welcoming service, close to the beach but also close to the highway. Recently renovated with clean rooms and good hot breakfast. For the price, it's really hard to beat. Only real cons were some road noise (we had a room on the outside wall) and limited food choices within walking distance. The benefits of price and pretty comfortable beds more than made up for it though. We will likely stay here again on return trips.
Great value by the sea. Wonderful breakfast room And staff. Walking distance to village. Lots of lovely restaurants and easy coaster train to San Diego. Has pool and hot tub but ocean across the road. Could use bathroom renovations but clean and tidy. Second visit but will go again.
Stayed in suite which was recently renovated. Marble/marble like counter tops everywhere. Great tile all over. Very clean. Suite has fold out sofa bed in living room. Kitchen has regular size fridge/freezer, microwave, kitchen storage for your own dishes. Even has a dishwasher and garbage disposal. 2 very comfortable beds in separate room, 2 tv's, and spacious bathroom. Great location as close to ocean and Carlsbad, Oceanside, Encinitas, La Jolla, etc. Freeway access very close. Great price for all of this. Breakfast room has same high quality renovations, spacious and wonderful selections of great food.
The hotel was very affordable. I had a 2 bedroom suite to accommodate the kids as well. Televisions in all of the rooms that had regular basic cable. We should have packed our Apple TV as the internet was very good. Very comfortable beds ad pillows. . Breakfast was the highlight. More than the continental breakfast, we had bacon, sausage, eggs, and potatoes as well as a huge variety of pastries and fresh to eat waffles. I would recommend this hotel any day of the week.
We needed a large suite, sine we planned for eight of us to visit LEGOLAND together. For the price, this was an excellent choice. The breakfast was served in a spacious, clean room, and the buffet included every breakfast item you can name. The swimming pool and hot tub were in an attractive, well-maintained enclosed area, and were a perfect size. Staff was very helpful, and every effort was made to make us comfortable.
This property had terrible ratings under Ramada. After years long restoration, and rebranding, I expected a wonderful experience from Best Western. Yet the heat didn't work in the room I was assigned, the 2nd room wreaked of smoke, and theb3rd room had dangerous loose carpeting.
This is a large, well designed facility with multiple buildings and spacious contemporary rooms. It made a good first impression, but it was a frustrating failure for us due to insufficient staff and supplies. As we checked in, the reception was annoyed snd overwhelmed, with only one person handling both check in, phones, and requests from guests. Our first morning we were pleased with the extended buffet breakfast including hot and cold items serviced by an attentive staff person. But the second morning, most of the food ran out, and there was no seating left, and so we left and came back a half hour later, thinking we could take food to our suite. But, no one had replenished, so even less food available. No evidence that anyone cared. Hot food steamtrays empty. Only one kind of cereal left but only two tiny cartons of chocolate milk. Ling line trying to make waffles. Very disappointing for the dozen or more people standing around needing breakfast. When our hungry group of 8 checked out to go find a breakfast restaurant, there was still a line of other hungry people extending out of the breakfast area milling like cattle. We had chosen this hotel partly because of the economics and time saving of breakfast being provided. Instead we spent over $50 to feed our group of 8 elsewhere. I feel like sending the hotel our breakfast bill! What was even more irreplaceable was the time wasted. This beautiful facility deserves better management.
It was our last night in California and we had to sleep in a hotel before leaving on our next journey in life. Beds were comfortable and staff was pleasant. It was nice way to leave the place we called home
My friend arrived after seeing a concert at the Belly-Up. We were greeted warmly by the nighttime desk manager. Check-in was easy. The room was huge, clean, and comfortable. It is right next to the beach. There is merely a two block walk for beach access. The breakfast was above average for a continental breakfast. All of the staff was helpful. The only issue was that maintenance men were making a lot of noise around 7 AM. I believe they were setting up a new sign, but they were oblivious to hotel guests' sleep. That could have bee
If you're looking for a simple, no frills stay at an excellent price, this is the place for you. However, be aware that the rooms are small and also be aware that this property is right next to the 5 freeway, so if freeway noise bothers you, ask for any available rooms away from the freeway. The staff will be happy to oblige. The breakfast was decent and staff was friendly. The cook took the time to say hello to each guest in the dining room and asked about how the food and service was. Happy travels.
I love the newly updated suites. They are nice especially for the price. What bothered me was being awakened by jackhammers and hammering on the wall as well as having to listen to the construction workers conversing loudly using profanities. I complained to the front desk and they did nothing.
This Hotel is in the middle of a huge reno and will become a Best Western once they are done. The price we got through PriceLine was very good so we can put up with some inconveniences. The pool area has still not been done but except for the furniture it is ok. There is a lot of construction noise during the day. You have to go across the street to another hotel for the breakfast and boy is it busy with huge lineups. I think once they are done it will be a very nice place but the price will also reflect that.
We enjoyed our stay...staff was so nice and especially house keeping..we stayed in the 2brm family room...it was clean and inviting and we had a small kitchen and were offered cook supplies..to use during our stay..we'll difinally be going back..
Stayed here over Labor Day weekend. It is a beautiful hotel. Still needs to be finished remodeled so that the parking spaces are available and so that you dont have to trek across the street for breakfast and a workout. But other than that it was a great stay.
Room was spacious and beds were very comfortable. Kitchen was very and it was very nice having a full size fridge and freezer. Breakfast was very good but a little inconvenient with little kids across the street. Very convenient and comfortable stay to go to the beach and Legoland
