This was my second visit to Hotel Zico. My first visit, in June 2026, was flawless. During this, my second visit, I was woken by loud talking and laughter on the balcony outside our room around midnight, as well as the strong smell of marijuana smoke. The balcony is shared between several rooms, and is enclosed by a roof and walls on three sides. The AC units for each room draw in air from the balcony. I called the front desk, but they said the balcony was outside so they would not do anything about the smoking. I pointed out that the hotel website said the hotel was 100% smoke free, but the front desk (politely) said that didn't apply to the balcony. I asked if it would be possible to change rooms and was told no. The next morning I spoke with the day manager. She confirmed that the hotel would not stop anyone from smoking on the balcony. She said there was only one room available for us to move to, although she warned us the new room was near the highway, and highway noise might be bothersome. (We noticed the highway noise but it didn't bother us at all.) The move was a hassle, but preferable to breathing smoky air. Given that (i) the balcony is shared by multiple rooms, (ii) the balcony is almost entirely enclosed, which traps any smoke, (iii) all the rooms on the balcony have AC units that draw air directly from the balcony (including smoky air if people are smoking on the balcony), and (iv) the hotel advertises itself as a "100% smoke free" hotel, I think the hotel should either (A) ban smoking on the balcony or (B) warn guests with rooms on the balcony that their AC units might draw in smoky air from the balcony. Once we were moved to a new room, our visit was fine. The staff (while generally unhelpful with the smoke issue) were otherwise pleasant and professional. The rooms were clean and pleasant. The breakfast is pretty good. The ability to park in a gated underground parking deck is really nice.
Thank you for returning to Hotel Zico and for sharing such a detailed account of your stay, DasDakotaMan. We know a second visit carries higher expectations, especially after a first one that went so smoothly. We're glad the day manager was able to find you a different room, and that the highway noise — which can be a real concern — turned out to be a non-factor. It's also good to hear that the breakfast, underground parking, and overall cleanliness continued to stand out, along with a team that remained courteous throughout. Guest comfort is the standard we hold ourselves to on every stay, and we appreciate you recognizing the moments where that came through. We hope your travels bring you back to Mountain View again, and that your next visit reflects the level you experienced the first time around. Warm regards, Guest Experience Team
Loved the table tennis, but the AC was LOUD, and they need to offer plain eggs for breakfast. Don't do a first floor patio room until they renovate them. Too much to mention here.
Janice, we appreciate you taking the time to share this. Glad to hear you enjoyed the table tennis, but it's clear we missed the mark in a few important areas. The loud AC and your comments about the first floor patio room are definitely not the experience we want for our guests, and we will certainly look into both. Your note about offering plain eggs at breakfast is very helpful feedback, especially for guests who prefer simple options, and we'll keep that in mind as we review our offerings. Thank you again for staying with us and for being so candid about what worked and what didn't. Warm regards, Guest Experience Team
We were eaten alive by BED BUGS!!!! DISGUSTING FILTH AND ODOR My wife and I stayed here. I submitted a bunch of pictures on my wife's account. Since she is the one that purchased the room. The review was suppressed. So now I am leaving a short one. They had bed bugs. Our bed sheets were covered in blood. I had so many bites and I was uncomfortable for a few days. We literally have PTSD from the trip. We were scared to bring our clothes in and had to quarantine them. It ruined our entire stay. We were only there for one night. We were DISGUSTED when we left. There was a fishy odor in the room. The floors were unclean and there was a random tissue on the windowsill. The entire room was gross and unsettling. I will never stay at a BW hotel again. They made us plunge a plugged up toilet we never used. It was plugged up when we got there. We had to walk through the hotel with a plunger. it was embarrassing. They made us come to the front desk and get it. Edit: don't worry the hotel manager replied and let us all know that the majority of the guests won't have bed bugs in their room. what a relief for future customers. I love how he told us to bring it to his attention, when the next day when we checked out, after our one-night stay. we did bring up the bed bug infestation and the rude receptionist demanded we take it up with the booking company we used. Best Western does not stand by their hotels that they sign contracts with. half of these reviews are fake. look at all the people talking about the disgusting fishy odor in all the rooms in the cigarette smell in the bugs. get ready to quarantine your homes everybody because apparently they don't care at all. Edit: Quote from the hotel in the comments below, ", we're genuinely concerned to read comments like yours, as they are not reflective of the experience the vast majority of our guests have during their stay." - Great way of saying not every room has bed bugs. They admit it themselves. Stay at your own risk. They aren't taking it serious. Countless other people are saying and showing the same information. We have pictures of bed bugs in the room. I was hoping to resolve this amicably but since they don't want to take responsibility I am going to start uploading and sharing the bed bug we captured in a bag. EDIT 2: Corporate and the hotel refused to refund me for my stay. It turns out Best Western doesn't offer refunds for their "Signature Hotels." - They are such dumps that they wont stand behind them, I have spent HUNDREDS on extermination at my house and had to quarantine everything. CORPORATE offered me a $25 gift card THEN RECENDED THE OFFER. Cory, the supervisor on hand said he refused to honor the $25 gift card, which I didn't want to begin with. But how disgusting? He went back on his own staffs word. Best Western is DISGUSTING. This hotel is DISGUSTING. So now here are the pictures of a bed bug WE CAPTURED IN OUR ROOM!!!! IT LOOKS LIKE THIS BED BUG HAS HAD A FEAST ON QUITE A FEW GUESTS!!
Scott, we appreciate you taking the time to describe what happened. What you've shared is very concerning, and we understand how upsetting this must have been for you and your wife. This is not the experience we want for anyone who stays with us. We take reports like yours seriously and immediately bring in certified specialists whenever such concerns are raised. Their inspections follow strict protocols to ensure every guest room remains clean and sanitary. While those results have not reflected an active issue, we know that does not lessen the frustration you describe. Your notes about the room condition and the odor are also being looked into. Our team works carefully to maintain our Mediterranean-inspired building, and your comments help us see where extra attention is needed. We're genuinely sorry this stay left such a poor impression. Warm regards, Guest Experience Team
False advertisement with the breakfast ! Not worth the stay
We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. It's disappointing to hear that breakfast did not meet your expectations, and we understand how that would affect your overall impression of the stay. We'll be reviewing how we communicate our offerings to be sure everything is described clearly and accurately. Thank you for pointing this out so we can do better for future guests. Warm regards, Guest Experience Team
Infested with bed bugs. I got bites all over my body. STAY AWAY from this bedbug hotel.
We appreciate you taking the time to share this. What you've described is very concerning, and this is not the experience we want for anyone who stays with us. Our rooms are regularly inspected by a professional service, and we will be having them do an immediate and detailed check of the room you occupied. Thank you for bringing this to our attention so we can address it right away and ensure the comfort and safety of our guests. Warm regards, Guest Experience Team
this hotel is clean, quiet, and the rooms are so cute. i love staying here! i want to give a special shoutout to the women who work at the front desk though. they are all SO sweet, helpful, and just make you feel very welcome. as a woman who traveling alone, feeling safe is a top priority and i definitely feel safe here. especially with the kindest women working!! thank you!!❤️
Hannah, it means a lot that you shared this. Hearing that you felt comfortable and safe here really warms the heart. The women at the front desk will be touched to know their kindness stood out to you—they take a lot of pride in making guests feel cared for. We love that the quiet space and the cozy rooms added to your stay. We'll be looking forward to welcoming you back the next time you're in Mountain View. Warm regards, Guest Experience Team
I think the hidden gem of this place are the meals cooked by bona fide Grandmas! No matter how much I may purchase at other places, there's nothing like stopping in, grabbing a coffee, getting a meal for breakfast & chatting it up with the cook! I love it!
What a pleasure to read your note. The kitchen is truly the heart of Zico, and those Grandma recipes really do set the tone for the mornings here. Knowing you enjoyed coffee, a homey breakfast, and a good chat is what we hope for every day. It's the little rituals that make our place feel personal. Thanks for making our cooks smile with your kind words—it means a lot to all of us. Warm regards, Guest Experience Team
We had to wait several hours after the check-in time for our room because rooms were not cleaned yet. Some of the front office staff were curt, bordering on surly. The hotel is understaffed and in dire need of upgrades. The blinds and the toilet paper holder in our room were broken, we were told that because of staff shortages they only clean the rooms every three days. After 3 days we had to ask for fresh towels and our room was finally cleaned after 6:30 pm on the third day! This our third time staying at this hotel and it will be the last.
Awesome Xperience! Great location, terrific staff and extremely well managed. Rooms are clean. and coffee flows until 2pm. Breakfast is really nice. Best of all Humming birds come in to bathe at fountain every morning at 7am and there is a red tail hawk nest across the parking lot. Just super fun all the way around. Highly recommend
Very disappointed with our stay here. The pictures are extremely misleading and look nothing like what you will stay in. The room was dark and did not give a clean vibe. The musty old smell also did not help. Highly recommend staying somewhere else.
Zico Hotel, Mountain View, California. This hotel was a huge disappointment. My wife had same-day surgery at Stanford Medical. We live a four-hour drive from this location. We had booked for two nights. Surgery was scheduled for 5 AM the morning following our first night's stay. I phoned at 9:30 AM Zico Hotel asking that the room be cleaned and comfortable for when she would arrive following surgery. We arrived back to Zico before 11:30 AM. Our room had not been touched by the hotel staff. My wife had a 1:15 PM follow-up the day following surgery. I asked for a late check-out near 1 PM. I was told that if we did not checkout by noon, there would be an additional $30 surcharge. I walked the hallway several times during our full day stay. Two cleaning carts were left unattended in the hallway with one additional cart parked in the doorway of a guest room. Nothing was done in the with the carts and the rooms till about 4 PM. The courtyard photo in the Zico listing a very narrow strip with artificial turf with one of the long sides, concrete walls bordering a noisy freeway exit. The toilet seat was loose, a challenge to attempt to set on it. The bathroom was extremely small and the open door came to within an inch of the toilet. The room was small. The sheets were loose upon our arrive and a long strand of hair was on the bottom sheet. The free breakfast is continental and minimum at best. During the past 14 months I have stayed in more than a dozen USA motels/hotels. When and where there was a breakfast with the room, the TV in the breakfast room was one of the three broadcast networks or CNN. Zico's breakfast room had Fox News, which says something about Zico Hotel. The king bed was comfortable. Stay was a couple during August 2024
Absolutely love the character of the hotel from exteriors to interiors. Like an exotic little inn. Only nitpick is that there is lack of convenience after garage locks up for the night. Then again you can easily walk to the nearby In-N-Out Burger or Walgreens.
