Located in an area in front of Central Bus station and that next to Central Railway station both rundown and aging. Sadly a pretty poor to grotty area with nothing within a few minutes walking distance. Photo shown of hotel is very misleading. From the stations its ugly painted side with word HOTEL large. A bit of a dodgey walk crossing the road or you could use an old subway. Breakfast was identical daily and somewhat limited. Ironic that a smiley face picture of two fried eggs and large tasty looking sausage was not provided. Stale cerals ,choice of 3. Croissants same. Despite having the trams and buses directly in front the 5 day stay was not noisey. It does not have an evening restraunt but sells a few drinks and crisps sold by receptionists fropm a glass cupboard. . Our shower leaked all over the bathroom floor tiles despite us not using it? Lift was just about adequate broke down last day. However alternative is around a corner thankfully. Room was large with a/c Huge bed. No facilities ie swimming pool or anything ...basic. Car park is a joke and one of our taxis decided against entry. Street pavements and cobblestones not ideal however transport into city routes 6&7 directly outside. So alln in all a real letdown but staff were excellent and friendly. So were almost all the Bulgarian people we stoke to. Its well worth paying more to be a mile away in the city. which is well worth a vist and two day trips out extra. Plovidv and Rila monastry as absolute must. .
Very dirty, noise, below average breakfast. On my arrival the bed covers had stains of blood! I asked to have them changed and they brought other that were also dirty. Bathroom was full of hairs, even the walls of the bathroom! Better go to one of the next hotels as I did . Which ever you choose it will be better.
Location wise the hotel is great, reception staff and staff at breakfast were efficient, breakfast was basic but good and fresh, nice coffee. The major downside of this hotel is house keeping, we were there five night with friends who also had a room for five nights. When we checked into the room the small of bleach was overwhelming. However, the carpet was not clean and when we touched the sink it was gritty, on a couple of occasions when we returned to the hotel we were missing specific towels, I think all they did was to wipe a towel over the sink and toilet and maybe the shower as well. We complained, our friends room was not touched one day after we had been out till 7pm and they could not do anything as no housekeeping staff on site. When we were in reception on two occasions waiting our friends to go out we heard two other couples checking out saying hotel was good except cleanliness in their room.
A decent four-star hotel a few steps from the central train station. Great price too. Small but sufficient breakfast-room with basic food selection and a calm atmosphere. You can easily tell it is a bit understaffed, but all employees do their best to fill in the gaps. I was especially impressed with the person managing the kitchen (sorry, forgot to ask for your name), and my favorite receptionist, Magi, such a calming presence, always with a honest, warm smile to make you feel right at home. Located in a kind of sketchy area, with very few decent shops or restaurants nearby, but still only a ten minute walk from what one might call the nicer parts of town. Some traffic on the main road close by, but overall quiet at night. Would have gone for 9 out of 10 because of the location, but 4 out of 5 seems too harsh, keeping in mind the excellent personell. Thanx!!!
I stayed here on two separate nights on either end of a 5 day trip to Varna. I chose the BW as it is right next to the train station. It is perfect for anyone looking to stay close to the trains. The airport is only a 25 min ride away on the subway. There are dining options and grocery stores close by. One weird thing happened when i stayed though, and this was why i gave 3 stars. When i arrived, i went right to bed as i had been traveling for about 15 hours. I was awoken to a staff member entering my room to fix a light. No warning, no time to put clothes on.... just came in. I was so tired i just let do his thing, but any other person may have been very disturbed by this. I could have been in the shower, or otherwise indisposed. Anyways, other than that, the stay was good.
The hotel has all the amenities for a peaceful holiday without any extra worries. Close to the station and close to everything you need! Easy transportation and friendly staff who are ready to meet all your needs for a great holiday. I`ll be back for sure!
Hotel was really handy for bus and train stations, also only 30 mins walk from centre. Room was clean, good and well presented and reception good helpful, friendly and efficient. Free breakfast was allright, decent selection except for coffee machine which was either broken or bad.
My stay here was good, the landing photo on this page is a bit misleading, those trees on the right are now buildings. Still, decent wifi, a smart tv, comfortable beds and provided breakfast made for a nice stay. The real bonus was the location, 1 min from central train station meant i got to the airport in 30 mins. Lots of grocery stores, bakeries and cash exchange place as well
Really happy with the room, its facilities, the staff, the breakfast (and the breakfast staff were lovely!) My Best Western Rewards status was recognised and the staff were very responsive to any questions I had, and were happy to accommodate. The area where the hotel is located, is a bit on the run-down side, however the hotel itself is very well located for transport links. Assuming all remains the same with the hotel, I would definitely return to this hotel in future.
This would have been a good stay if it wasn't for the absolute disregard for cleanliness in my hotel room. Let's start from the beginning: We got to the room and there were bugs on the carpet and a random pill (!) under the table. There was hair on the chair and on the bed and there was a layer of dust everywhere - on the lamps, bathroom air vent and also in the AC. I went to the reception to ask for proper cleaning and when it was supposedly done, only the bugs had been vacuumed. But the pill under the table was still there which means that the room was barely cleaned and not vacuumed properly. The dust was also still everywhere. The shower drain hasn't been cleaned in forever, the corners of the shower are slowly molding and water even leaks out of one corner onto the bathroom floor. We wanted to make tea/coffee in the room, but the kettle had a layer of black dust from the inside! I have the pictures to support all of my claims. It seems like the cleaners do only the bare minimum and unfortunately this lack of cleanliness has ruined my stay. The reception staff was polite and apologetic - it is of course not their fault, but rather the complete lack of supervision over the cleaning at this hotel. Not the standard that I expected.
The hotel is located just next to the Underground Station (Metro),in a walking distance are Central Railway Station and Central Coach station. There is parking next to the building. Gusts are getting free mineral water in the room, slippers, and free breakfast. There is a safe box in the room, an air conditioning (which didn't work in our room), and a fridge. Free coffee and tea are available in the rooms and at the reception area. Night receptionist is not very friendly and helpful, but the day receptionists are very nice. Receptionist Angelin did the check-in and check out, and it was very professional, polite, and helpful. Spacious rooms, clean and spacious bathroom. Free coffee/tea/water. Comfortable bed. It was a bit hot in the room. Couldn't cool it off. Nearby activities: City Centre is about 5-10min away. Train Station, Underground, and Coach Station are within walking distance. Hotel is wheelchair friendly. Breakfast was a standard buffet breakfast. Butter croissants are very delicious. Staff is polite and helpful. Very good choice for staying in Sofia. Perfect location! Helpful and friendly staff!
It was an amazing accommodation for me. I came Sofia by train and the hotel is very close to the Sofia Railway Station & Bus Terminal and it took a 3-5 min to arrive with a big luggage. 9 a.m. was an early time for an check-in but the staff helped me about an early check-in and im so thankfull for it. The room was so clean and well organized. I shared the same room with my parents and there was an extra bed for me (it was comfortable) and still there was an enough space to move. The AC was a little bit old but it was working nicely, Internet connection was good and I was able to use it without interruption. The bathroom was clean. There was a lot of options in the breakfast room. I ate a lot actually and everything was so tasty! Kitchen' door was open when i was in the breakfast area and it looked so clean to me so i never felt anxious while eating. The chef (i think her name was Sofia sorry if im wrong) was so smiley and the coffee machine wasn't working for a reason when i was there and i asked for help, she quickly fixed the machine without me having to ask a second time. I asked to many question about the hotel, public transportation, markets etc. to the lobby staff and they answered nicely without getting tired. Hotel' location is not the best for a trip to the Sofia Center. But at least it's close to the Lions' Bridge and local markets. It was a wonderfull experiance for me and I enjoyed. Probably I will prefer this hotel again when I come to Sofia.
Well run hotel that has a great location next to main bus station and right by a tram and Underground stop. 10 mins into city centre Rooms clean and waist basic do the job Staff very friendly - in a city not known for customer service , this place shines out. Breakfast ok but the food felt cold sometimes All in all though a nice stay
This is a good choice if you're arriving by bus (one block walk) or train (right next door), which was my main reason for staying here. As with other properties in this chain, this location features clean, safe, comfortable rooms with spacious beds and helpful reception staff 24/7. However, I was surprised by how spartan the breakfast was. There were very few dishes offered compared to other BWs (and other chains), and even some of those were no longer available. For instance, there were no bananas. I would normally not mention that fact but, when the kitchen door was propped open briefly, I saw a few of the employees munching on bananas while the guests went without. Needless to say, I was not happy a) that they were eating while on duty and b) that they were helping themselves to the best fruits and denying us guests the opportunity to have them. The other issue was a persistent puddle of water outside the shower that greeted me when I checked in late at night. I thought housekeeping missed it and it would be gone the next day but it was still there and even seemed to grow (it was not coming from running the shower itself, as faucet was on the opposite side). It was hard to walk into the bathroom without stepping in it. Overall, I would still stay here again and recommend it, but go in realizing that it is not on a par with other BW locations, and don't expect much food in the morning.
I've stayed here before and all had been good, especially for the price. But this time there was a fair amount of mold in one corner of the shower, and twice there were small cockroaches. I ended up switching hotels after the second roach, and likely won't come back. Shame, because I really liked this hotel in the past.
A nice clean hotel where the staff speak English and are all very helpful. Comfortable main beds. We were 2 adults and our 14 years old son who was provided with a one person sofa bed that was too short (he placed the chair to rest his feet while sleeping). Housekeeping is not as we are used to in other countries. They just empty the bins and change the towels left on the floor. They don't clean the shower or the bathroom or any of the surfaces. They don't vacuum the carpet and they don't supply coffee and tea sachets every day. However, one can take complimentary tea and coffee from the lobby anytime (filling water for the kettle from the nearby toilet sink). There's a small food store a few steps away from the hotel. Water, beer, etc are very cheap. Nescafé coffee is more expensive than in Malta. A few more steps further there's a Billa supermarket (at Central Station). The location of the hotel is a bit away from the main attractions. We walked once (about one hour walk) and we enjoyed it. The metro is very frequent and costs only 80c of euro for each trip per person, so location is very good. Breakfast is good too. I recommend this hotel.
We stayed for 2 nights arriving late. Rooms are comfortable. Hotel is 2km from main central street. Breakfast is ok. Had a noise circuit breaker close to our room which didn't make our sleep the best one. We tried to organize a transfer from airport to hotel but staff rejected to do it. Hotel is ok
I have stayed at the hotel a few times now. It's not located in the best part of town but if you have a departure from the train station or the airport it can work out as a really cheap alternative using the metro to get to the airport. The staff were very friendly, the room simple but clean and good breakfast for the price. The only negative, it's so nice around the area at night but I don't stop at this hotel for the local nightlife!
We stayed here two nights recently on our trip to Sofia. Convenient spot to access the main train and bus stations as well as its steps away from the subway station. It is also an easy 20-30 minute walk to the city centre and all the attractions. The rooms were an okay size, nothing huge but perfectly good for our family to sleep in. A cot was provided for our toddler and was waiting for us in our room upon arrival. Breakfast was included, and was a full breakfast with bacon and eggs; food was good. I also would like to mention that the front desk staff were fantastic! Very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The hotel manager even came out and greeted us when we first arrived; nice touch and much appreciated! We will look to stay here again when we are in Sofia.
We have just returned from a 4 night stay at the Best Western Terminus Hotel in Sofia. What an amazing hotel this is, on the doorstep of a fantastic public transport system. The hotel is around 1 mile away from the downtown area. Don't let that put you off, the tram stop is directly outside the entrance. The room was spacious and had all of the necessities to ensure that we had an enjoyable stay. The fridge was a really useful addition. The bed was huge in the king room!! The housekeeping staff were great and serviced our room daily. The breakfast was a continental buffet style. Again, this was a great start to the day and was included in our room price. A good selection of hot and cold options. There is no bar area in the hotel however there is a fridge in the reception area where you can purchase alcohol and non alcoholic drinks to take away to consume in your room. All of the staff members that we met were professional in their conduct and were polite, friendly and helpful. We loved the luggage room availability - as we had a late flight, the staff agreed to look after our luggage so that we could enjoy our final day in this beautiful city. The hotel price was an absolute bargain. This alongside the quality accommodation and friendly/helpful staff makes this a great choice of hotel. I would highly recommend and will return here in the future. Don't be put off by previous comments about the area around the hotel. As in any city in the world, you need to be vigilant. We had no issues at all. We found the Bulgarians to be extremely polite and welcoming.
I am always a bit concerned staying at 'train station' hotels but have to say I was delighted to stay at this hotel. As you can guess the hotel in very close to the train and metro station. You can walk into central sofia from the hotel but as it was raining when i was there the metro was great to get to centre and later to airport. Room was spacious and comfortable, Breakfast was excellent, hot and cold options. Staff attentive and helpful, Very happy stay
This hotel provides a modern Western-style hotel experience. The staff is courteous, helpful, knowledgeable. The breakfast is excellent with many hot and cold choices. The area of the hotel is not great, near the Sofia Central Railway Station.
Me and my sisters spend two nights at the hotel and had great experience! The staff were very welcoming and helpful. I had to storage my breast milk in their freezer and the chef was super nice and helpful. A receptionist name Ivan helped us a lot with finding good spot to eat and hang out in Sofia. Breakfast was great and tasty. The only thing they need to improve is cleaning, it felt like it's not so clean. Overall very recommended!
My train arrived to Sofia late in the evening, so I was looking for a decent accommodation very close to the train station. Best Western seemed to guarantee a safe standard, but this hotel far exceeded my expectations. Spacious room with new equipment, comfortable bed, very good soundproofing (I slept very well, despite the fact that the window overlooked a busy street with a tram line) and a tasty breakfast with a decent selection of dishes. And on the top of that - very friendly staff: all of them. It applies not just to the nice ladies at the reception desk but also to the staff who prepared and served breakfast. I was on a business trip this time and (unfortunately) I didn't have much time to enjoy hotel's comforts but it will be my first choice for the future trips to Sofia.
Excellent location for transport. Main railway station is about 200 metres away and the trolley bus/tram stops are just outside the hotel. Like most Best Western Hotels this is modern, clean and well staffed. The rooms are large, very clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet is excellent.
Excellent hotel for the money. Comfortable room, big desk, great bed and fast free wireless. Finally an hotel with multiple electric sockets for charging phone, laptop, kobo etc TV with Netflix and Youtube Will stay here everytime in Sofia
I was looking for an accommodation that did not look like a remnant of the communist era and wouldn't be too expensive either and this was a very good choice. Large, modern, well-lit and spotlessly clean room, helpful front desk staff, good communication with the hotel prior to arrival. Only the breakfast was rather so-so, very limited choice. And the neighbourhood around the hotel is not the most exciting in the city, but it offers good connections to other districts.
Booked this last minute as we needed a hotel with close proximity to the central station. It is very close, just a few minutes walk. Rooms are comfortable except for the air con that wouldnt change temperature for some reason, so the room was very hot. There is an opening window but onto a noisy street. Breakfast was included and was adequate, except the hot dishes were stone cold. The staff were very helpful and friendly and we would stay again, should the need arise, but would check the soap and shower gel dispensers next time before we get in the shower and find they are empty!!
The original hotel is Sofia Plaza hotel, now the hotel already changed to best western hotel. We stayed two days, cozy room as best western hotel usual, breakfast is good as well, especially scramble eggs, very yummy, we loved it. Hotel has good location and near train, metro and bus station, airport also easy to reach, and the surround of hotel has convenient living area, supermarket Billa nearby. If visitors want to visit city center by vehicle, we very recommend stay here with free parking space and then take metro to city.
Not sure why such rubbish reviews. Went with some trepidation but really happy. Good price, yes not in the centre but 2 stops on underground so much cheaper. Breakfast fine although one day no milk in coffee machine. Staff lovely not communist. Room clean Only quibble is the lift. If someone left the door open then it would not work
When I read all the reviews here. I thought that I had made a bad choice. I found this place very good and had no problems for the price I paid. The breakfast was not great but for the price I paid I did not expect it to be. I was near the Metro so I explored a lot of Sofia in 4 days, the fare is 1.60 to travel the whole line. It is next to a Casino, I had a look in there and it seemed fine if you like that kind of thing. So as a solo traveller the Shower was good the bath was good with a lot of hot water and had a nice time in 4 days. I would return again for the hotel experience.
everything , after the SYNNY BEACH HOTEL in lanqkwai, but guess what ...well location 5 minutes to the main cebtral train station , which is ok during the summer time. Winter rain, snow, cold it is deadly. Across the street yoy will find the tram, but who can give you directions , if you can not communicate ??? no one not even the reception, english is not a well known language. You take the train another ordeal until youreach the depot where you can see staition information in english , that is another story in another review. Hotel less that basic. Problems NO TOWELS ,when we checked in they told us that soon they will have the towels returned from the laundry. At the agternoon when we returned we were informed that towels were OVER NO MORE availability. they brought us one that was already used... astonished ???? another thing coming room we were assighed on the first floor, which floor was used for a short stay ... an air condition unit which was struggling to maintain a temperature of 10 degrees celcius while outside was -7. asked for a second blanket... yaa right...Since my army service i had to sleep with my clothes and overcoat on. Take a shower after a long day .. come on you've got to be kidding. The longest day ever.. finally the morning arrived, found us frozen ( we had asked for another room lol ) . Breakfast , for the locals, ok to my taste lousy poor degrating as the one we had at kyridis hotel in komotini. Coffee and only coffee , in my own plastic cup because i was wondering. Room poor to ok . The placeis ideal for local people who go to Sofia for their businnes only for one night it is not for an extensive stay. We choose this hotel since we were in transit for our next day trip. Do not recomend the hotel for anyone unless you would like to have a 4th class casini at the lower level. Cold weather, cold hotel, cold people, wifi did not find it Of course i will never stay again and of course i dont recomend it. Ξενοδοχείο για λίγο στυλ Πλατεία Βάθης κλπ κλπ λάθος αν το κλείσετε
We have stayed for 3 nights in this so-called Hotel. It looks nothing like the pictures they advertised, the pictures were taken before the hotel was rebuilt a long time ago. The condition of our room was awful, probably it has never been cleaned. I could not put my clothes on the furniture as it was that dirty. The carpet was stained and there was some sawdust on it. Half of the electronic devices were not working, such as lamps, sockets. Fun fact, the TV channels include some hardcore Bulgarian porn. Breakfast: bad quality food, sometimes no cutlery is provided, terrible coffee, the chairs and tables are falling apart in the dining room. Staff: rude, unhelpful, they think that accepting your money and providing a service for it is an enormous favour from their part. Never smiling, never a kind word, they answer all the questions with 'I don't know', even simple ones like how to get to the city centre or where to buy public transport tickets. All in all, I expected nothing but this 'hotel' is below that. Do not let this review discourage you from visiting Sofia, since it is a great city with lots to do and great restaurants to explore, this hotel could not spoil our overall experience.
We had a solid experience at the Sofia Plaza Hotel. When we first arrived it was a little sketchy because its in the northern outskirts of town and right next to a Casino, but it turned out to be a very nice place for the four nights we stayed. The room was big and clean and we loved the Bulgarian feel. It is an easy 15-20 minute walk south to the center of Sofia, so expect to walk a lot if you're not using a cab. Every one was very friendly and spoke English. Not much to complain about.
We spent 3 nights in this hotel. Old fashioned yet comfortable. Room we got on the second floor quite large with a comfortable double bed with airconditioner. Very little toiletries provided.Towels and bed linen not changed during our 3 day stay. The breakfast good but coffee was cold, only on the last morning coffee machine worked. The lady incharge of breakfast rude and unhelpful. Two of the reception staff good smiling and willing to help but the rest didnt want to smile and answer questions .As it was a package holiday we had paid in advance and we notified the night before that we intend to check out early morning after breakfast next day to catch the plane. But when handed over the key and said good bye the person at the reception doubted our payment and wanted proof without even going through the computer in front of him. We were made to feel like thieves which spoilt our holiday.Wish they emply more pleasant and efficient staff Mrs Perera
