The hotel staff at the reception was professional and friendly. The room was very basic, clean, qnd a new rest room. Unfortunately, the hotel set up gives it an ackward motel-ish feeling. The pillows were really poor, only a quilt and the room felt cold. The bed is good and firm. You hear all the noise from.other rooms (moaning, snoring, opening and closing doors...). I slept poorly. Breakfast is acceptable Bring your own pillow and ear plugs. I will avoid staying here in future trips.
Perfectly located- so close to the train station. Very clean- rooms could do with modernising a small bit, but other than that, they are perfect. All staff were friendly, we were given a map on arrival too, which was ideal. Would stay again!
The negative part: The surroundings are not worth writing home about. And the location is not in the center. You have to walk abt. 100 meters to the Tube and spend 10 minutes to come to the city center. The rest is all positive! The rooms are large, airy and clean. The breakfast - Covid-19 considering - absolutely adequate. And the eggs, scrambled or boiled are perfect. I hate lousy eggs for breakfast. Many 5-star hotels do worse! But what makes this hotel outstanding is first of all staff service. Be it in reception or restaurant, it is close to perfection. Nice, friendly, smiling and serviceminded. I have been in many 5-star hotels who could learn from this hotel. And to top it all the room prices are - seen with Danish eyes - very low indeed. Will I come back? Hell, yes!
this hotel deducted 90% of our deposit because cancellation due tioconfid 19 and did not think of replying to there head office in Milan we are not the only quests who think this type of handling confid 19 is really bad
This was my third visit to Hamburg and first time to stay out of town and was not disappointed. The reception staff were friendly , helpful and welcoming . We arrived in the morning with my niece after a tiring flight and we were pleasantly surprised to get a room after waiting for only 30 minutes. We had settled in the lounge waiting for after noon check in. This is a rare gesture as I have been at hotels that insist on waiting for check in time even when rooms are available. The room was clean and with two beds, suitable as we were two. Hot shower, medium bathroom, necessary toiletries. ( bring along your bathroom slippers and shampoo) Check out time was suitable and we had the option of leaving luggage in baggage store Two super markets, convenient store, restaurants all within a 2-7 min walking distance and so was the train and bus station Our room overlooked main road, so sound of cars though the night I would stay again !
First impression was vexing to me as in front of the hotel there were only flags of Hamburg and the European flag, whereas in other hotels across Europe you see the flag of the respective country in addition. Hotel is quite old and some parts could need some renovation. Staff is friendly. Rooms are clean. Nevertheless room service could improve as the bottle of water that I received and emptied on the first evening was put empty next to the glasses instead of taken away. Beds were okay but you could not manage to get it really dark at night with the curtains. Breakfast buffet was nothing special, seen it better and bigger in other comparable hotels.
We have done over ten annual trips and nowadays we lean towards the German markets for their quality. We chose Hamburg but had little knowledge of the city apart from reading a book earlier this year about the devastating air raids which took place in WW2. I had no idea where best to stay, just how big the city was and what it would be like to get around. I looked at hotels and found that those around the centre were either too expensive or fully booked so I decided to look a little further out and to chose a well known brand. I found the Best Western International had vacancies at an acceptable price but although I was a little apprehensive about its position decided to book it. We stayed for four nights and I have to say we were very pleased with it. We bought a Hamburg Card at the airport which gave us the use of the cities transport system for five days and also discount on excursions we took. It proved to be an excellent buy. From the airport we took the S1 into the main station then changed to the U2 which took us to a station about 100 yards from the hotel. The journey on the U2 was about ten minutes. On arrival we were met with a very efficient and friendly reception staff. We had upgraded our rooms and found them very nice, clean, a good bathroom and a very comfy bed. We had dinner in the restaurant which on a Thursday had an Italian theme. It was a buffet style and found it good and reasonably priced although we didn't find the soup we had seen advertised on the menu in the lift. We decided to try the breakfast the following morning and then decide if we would take it on the rest of our stay. At 13€ it we found it pretty good with a reasonable choice so we decided to take it for the remainder of our stay. We had drinks in the bar for three of the nights although we were surprised that both the bar and the restaurant were closed on Sunday evenings. There is a supermarket and also a fuel station nearby which both sell alcoholic and soft drinks so we resorted buying a bottle and sitting in our rooms. A few negative points are that there was no safe in the rooms, the TV didn't have many English news channels ( with the situation over Brexit the BBC would have been useful) and the coffee and tea were not replenished during our stay. On the positive side though we found all the staff extremely pleasant and efficient. All in all I would recommend this hotel even though there is nothing of much interest in the area The time taken and ease to catch a train into the city centre (and beyond) is well worth the effort and over the five days we were there became no bother whatsoever.
As a family of four we were put in the annex, with one main entrance to our two rooms - that was fine. The rooms were nice and clean and the carpet had a sort of surreal 3d effect if you stared at it. The wifi was good, the cleaning good. There's easy acces to the city with metro stations nearby. BUT the breakfast at €13 was expensive. We chose to buy our breakfast at a supermaket nearby. And the service at the bar was a bit slow. Especially the first night, we waited quite a while before the bartender appeared. Mixing drinks could also take quite a while.
Located about 200 meters away from the Underground Station Rauhes Haus (U2 and U4), can be reached easily from airport and Central Train-Station. This hotel is an older structure however with vizibile improvements in key areas like bathrooms, access for disabled, elevators, etc. The personnel is very friendly, English speaking, supportive and polite. Rooms are clean and well keept, with sufficient room and wall storage for clothing. Free WLAN included, breakfast however is to be paid separately (not overpriced). Breakfast is consistent and various offering a good jump-start in the morning. Waitresses are professional, maintaining the buffet filled and tables clean. Very well organized service. The hotel also has a restaurant and a bar both with a good selection of meals and drinks... The receptionist are friendly and approachable ensuring a smooth stay in Hamburg. The easiest way to commute to the City Center it is via Underground, individual day tickets available at €6,60 ... I will rate this with an excellent for people in transit or for an economic overnight. The only downside of this hotel is the noise coming from the adjacent fitness studio which in the evening apparently is hosting Zumba classes causing some noise. Otherwise no complaints, the hotel offering a good service for the money. Recommendable? Yes, without any hesitation.
Had a very nice stay. The outside and halls were a bit older looking hit the actual rooms were very nice and updated. The lady at the front desk was also very nice and knew a lot about the city and could answer all our questions.
A smart , modern and very clean hotel that lies to the east of the city. We found the staff to be friendly , welcoming and helpful. Our room was comfortable and contained all usual the refinements you would expect from a Best Western. The en-suite was excellent and the beds gave a goo nights sleep. The only downside for us was the location. If you are travelling from the airport by taxi or shuttle bus then there is no problem. If not then you have to get the train to Hasslebrook then take on a walk for twenty minutes for the rest of the way. That said once you are book in getting to the centre of the old city is easy as there is an underground station opposite . The train from there can get you to within a few hundred metres of the Rathaus. And from there you can walk down to the dock side, which is well worth seeing. If we ever decide to return to Hamburg we would be happy to stay at this hotel again as the price represented good value for money.
Hotel is clean, but old and tired. Rooms have no air conditioning, no safe, no fridge, no iron or ironing board, WiFi is not secure, no effective double glazing. You pay for room up front - nobody does that anymore. Very noisy at back end next to gym. Had to move rooms - no assistance offered. When I suggested that if I couldn't move room I would have to move hotels and ask for money back they went on attack - not hotels fault, no money back! New room, although clean, smelled - old smoking room and the smell is ingrained in fixtures and fittings. Needs gutting and bringing into the 21st century
To be honest I do not normally write my opinions but in this case I felt that I had to. Hotel was correct, meaning that the room was nice and clean but I would not have expected less paying 124 € per night for a double room of single use. Our flight connection in Dusseldorf was cancelled so we paid a call to the hotel informing them that we would arrive around 22:30. The answer of the receptionist was “Very well but I will cancel the room at 23:00”. I tried to explain that the reason why I was phoning here was because we had suffered a flight cancellation due to Air Berlin's strike and this is the reason why we were arriving later than expected. Here answer was again “Very well but I will cancel the room at 23:00”. No way to convince her. We arrived in Hamburg and the GPS showed that we were going to arrive to the hotel at 23:05. Therefore we paid a new phone call to the hotel and the same lady answer was unforgettable… “You will call me in 5 minutes and let me know that now you arrive at 0:00”. Travelling is not always easy and with this disposition even less. Guarantee the reservations the way you want but do not leave the people that have had a really eventful trip in the street in the middle of the night!
If I would come to Hamburg again this would be my hotel of choice. Clean, quiet. Excellent service. Good value. Delicious breakfast buffet. Attentitive staff. Bathrom is a bit small for a big person, but functional. Close to subway.
Stayed for 2 nights start of december 16. Hotel is a few mins walk from the city centre alongside a mian road not far from the main station. city is nice and alot to do there at day or night. we got the train from the airport which was only 3 euros or so. and took about 25mins. xmas markets are good but i'd recommend going to the DOM for a night as that has much better nightlife & a bit more of an adult xmas market. food and drink is about the same cost as in the UK.
Although expensive I consider it was a good deal for Hamburg in the Christmas period. The breakfast was expensive and not included. The bedroom was big, clean and confortable. Near the underground we reached the centre very quickly. Poor wifi.
Breakfast not included in price. No air-conditioning. Rooms very clean, with comfortable bathroom and bed. Parking spaces available which was great. The staff are all very nice and the employees at Reception desk are very helpful and most importantly speak English which is not so common in Hamburg. The hotel is situated in the outskirts but still close to the centre by car. There are certain times when the road is very busy but at night it is very quiet.
The hotel staff was nice, the restaurant nice , but the layout was odd. You walk into the lobby, all appears to be okay , then you have to go outside to get your room, in a courtyard. It put me inmind of a drive up motel.
The hotel gave us all we needed. The railway line is conveniently nearby and that brings you to Hamburg central without any inconvenience. The staff at the hotel were great. The room was just what we needed for the one night stay.
We stayed here on two occasions , the first time before visiting Berlin for 3 days and then coming back. First, young lady checked us in, with lots info and excellent friendly manner, later In the restaurant we met an Indian lady who was again excellent . On our returned we were met with a very warm welcome and jokes as if we were part of the family. We maybe shouldn't mention names but Thank you Sandra and staff. Hotel was in a very nice location, and we were pleased with every thing. July 13th 2016 Pete and Ann
The hotel is a bit far from the centre, but it has good connection by metro (direct line to Rathaus). It is a bit old. The staff is helpful, the bar-tender in the bar is a bit lofty but it is bearable. The restaurant is good with good food. The rooms definitely need renovation, though they are comfortable and internet access is provided. They could upgrade the experience if they want to keep customers.
The hotel is very outdated. The rooms were like a sauna. I had to ask the front desk for a fan. For the price, it's a rip-off. This was a one hundred and fifty euro hotel that should be more like sixty a night. That would still be high. The bright spot is they have an amazing staff. I can't say enough nice things about them. They knew the sites in Hamburg and helped point us in the right direction. The front desk was amazing with my children. Overall, over priced.
When arriving on a rather hot sunday afternoon, the building already promised at first sight some unease in the stomach, which grew during the checkin process. The guy at the reception was not really familiar with German language and not very helpful in explaining, that the bar and restaurant are closed and if we wanted cold refreshment, we should walk to the end of the floor for the vending machine. The room itself proofed the first impression. Furniture absolutely worn out, no safe, no fridge and no aircon, temperatures in the room estimated at 28°C. The only 'highlight' was the bathroom, which was obviously modernized recently - however it was so small, that only one person just could stand in front of the sink. Cleanliness was ok, breakfast also. Views from the window into the noisy backyard - because of the high temperatures we had to keep the window open all night and the noise in the early morning threw us out of bed rather quickly. Disgusting is the fact, that whenever we used the main entrance of the hotel, we had to walk through a stinking cloud of tobacco smoke - the smokers yard was just besides the entrance door and frequently used...
The hotel was rather below average compared with other Best Western hotels. The rooms are located around a back yard and it had the atmosphere of a motel. Two rooms had one entrance and it was quite noisy.
A very pleasant hotel and its location. The crew was helpful. Breakfast had a vide selection of cold cut and hot meals. Room was space full and clean. Close to communication to the center of the city. Singel trip on the u/ban Euro 1.50
I liked this Hotel, it was in a perfect location for me and the room was great, breakfast was second to none and the restaurant in the evening was very good. The staff are very helpful and friendly. I would stay here again.
I was a little worried about staying here as I normally stay in the Boettcherhof and have heard a couple of iffy reviews from colleagues. I can only say that my experience of the hotel was very good, from the greeting by the reception staff to the breakfast in the morning (plenty of choice). The rooms were a good size and not red hot as with most hotels in Germany, bed comfortable, so I had a good nights sleep. Nice little bar with a big TV, great for the mid week sport. I will probably stay here again rather than the over priced Boettcherhof.
This hotel was absolutely fantastic. The hotel staff were superb. Especially Sandra. With 2 young boys 5 and 1 it was difficult to occupy them. Helped with directions, advice, maps and by being very helpful and welcoming. Would definitely visit again. The rooms were great, spacious and very clean. The cleaners left sweets for the kids everyday after they had cleaned the room. We had medication that had to be refrigerated which this was not a problem. The location was super. Not even 10mins from the U-Bahn.
This hotel was sufficient for our purpose - a place to stay near to the hotel whilst on business. Location is great in that sense however there didn't seem to be a lot else nearby. On the plus side the food was great and the staff were extremely helpful when required.
Me, my wife and 2 toddlers stayed here for 3 nights in February 2016, and all i can say is... Excellent. The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. Yes the rooms are quite basic, but more than adequate for what we required. We had a family room out the back of the hotel which easily took the double and 2 singles leaving plenty of room for the kids to play. Bathroom was lovely, and felt very fresh. I must add here, the cleaners that came round every day were certainly my boys favourite, as every day they had a new packet of sweets on their beds!! Parking was free in the courtyard, but we opted to pay the 10 euro fee every night to have the car securely parked in the hotel garage. Also it was easier to unload/load the car up as the garage was closer to our room. The restaurant and bar were lovely, and the bar staff were exceptional... talking to our children and asking them if they had had a good day etc etc... The hotel is conveniently located near to the U-Bahn which makes getting into the city very easy. All in all, if we visit Hamburg again, we wouldn't hesitate for one second going back here. Thank you to every one there that helped make our stay much more comfortable.
Stayed here in October 2015. Front desk was very helpful however the WIFI was terrible, the hotel needs a refresh, still using keys, my heating system broke down, the towels were worn. There were lots of disturbances during the night from outside the hotel. Overall I believe the hotel is very dated, unless its an European thing. For the price I paid I probably expected something a bit better.
Hotel was very easy to find, area seems okay. There was free parking available in back or for 5 euros you can park in the parking garage. We stayed in room #10, had a gigantic key lol. Even the bathroom have some pretty old style huge keys. The room was clean, cozy, the bathroom was great. It is cold now here but I don't believe the hotel had air conditioning, our window was open when we arrived. Had dinner at the restaurant, food was great. We didn't have breakfast included but it can be purchased for 13 euros. Here are some downfalls: The hotel walls are definitely not sound proof The Internet was bad ): wifi really didn't work well. When it did only worked on browser could not load apps. Also it really only ever worked late at night or 6 am when no one was using it
Located few minutes walk from Underground system.Reasonable size of room for a family of 4.Very well speaking English the receptionist which helped us during everything we asked during our stay.Good area around even Lidl outlet nearby. The only thing is rooms without A/C which when we were there it was very hot.
Was here for one night, on our way to Berlin. Good and comfy hotel. Good breakfast. Welcoming staff and good wifi connection. Cheap, and a parking area in back (good for us with cars :D ) Supermarket around the corner and a gas station as a neighboor
Nice smal hotel , with NICE place for bikes in theyr garage , breakfast was good hot and cold food Littlebit outside centrum but not much with taxi , fits this hamburg harleyday god for me and my friend , they also offer to take care of our bagage because we arrive early , and rooms was not finish
Pleasantly refurbished Hotel, convenient Location, free car park, 5 metrostops from City Center, excellent breakfast, friendly staff, clean and well equipped rooms, good acoustic ilsolation in front rooms, if windows remain closed. I can't but recommend "Hamburg International" to all those who do not intend to spend all their savings on a good night's sleep im the City.
Best Western Hotel Hamburg International lies in a quiet yet easily accessible area in Hamburg. Hotel it self is like Best Western hotels usually, well run, comfortable and good value for money. We enjoyed our stay here.
