This was quite a surprisingly good stay, which I did not expect. The location is very central - regarding infrastructure this is a benefit due to the proximity to the central train station and the closeliness to the main shopping street. At the same time, this can be seen as a downside if one takes the night clientele of the downtown area into consideration. However, I cannot blame the hotel for this. The interior or at least my room was a bit old-fashioned. Nonetheless, the room was well-equipped and I notice renovation works on other floors. What most suprised me was the superb breakfast buffet. Here is the reason why: the chef was greeting loudly and friendly, the scrambled eggs were made from real eggs instead of powder, the quality of food was really good. No - this is not a modern hotel. Nonetheless, at this price, it will be difficult to get a clean room and such a great breakfast anyway around. For a business trip (one night or two), I can really recommend.

Worst experience in our hotel choice in Germany. It does not look like European quality. better to stay at some B&B rather then at this hotel. While you step out of it seems like in a dangers of a street homeless and drunk people. The staff is like not interested in anything. to speak with a receptionist you must wait and please her to come to the counter. Avoid and find your better place to enjoy the city.

Near to plenty of restaurants/bars. Discount on multi storey car parking, but it will not accept €100 notes and will only accept German registered cards. Do they not like overseas visitors? Good choice of dishes for breakfast including fresh fruits, jams fruit juices, cold meats and cheeses. Error in booking system meant manager had to agree to providing 2 single rooms as the twin as booked was not available, and firstly we were sent to a double room,by an inexperienced member of staff. Hotel bar closed for 1 week, but no notice given on arrival. No restaurant as it closed over 2 years ago.

They should rename and rebrand to Disgasterer Hoff. Then it will be the reality and the level they meet. This unbelievable situation can happen in 21st century. It like you travel with a time machine and appear in middle ages In short, they deny my stay at hotel, while having a prepaid voucher, and did not provide any confirmation of this, swearing that they did not charge the agency yet. How to call this but dirty andy cheap corruption. Now more in details All starts from the way they describe their hotel and rooms in booking systems: as you can see from the prepaid voucher I got from my agency, the room was a classic room with twin bed. While checking in, the front desk ladies were not in mood to assist: one of them was enjoying her breakfast at reception; the other one says that she is busy, and was continuing to make up her table. They told me that the room is not ready yet, and I should call them EVERY HOUR to know if it is ready. I left my baggage (be careful with this, when I open later, it was upside down and out of their boxes). Later they tell me that I have a single room booked with one 90cm bed. I start to insist that a classic room was booked, as in voucher. Their single rooms are so tiny with ugly red carpets with dirt spots and the bed from 1889. I asked to provide me the classic room and with a double bed, to which they aggressively shouted that if I do not want that room, they have nothing to offer (although, the online systems were showing plenty of rooms) they will put out my luggage and I must leave their hotel. I called my travel agency, and they told me that it is a twin bed (just one of twins, and not 2), and the classic is not always mean it cant be single. So, a dirty trick to catch clients, instead of writing single room and single bed. When I told them that the room can be accepted then, anyhow I will stay just a night, the “always eating ladies at reception were having their lunch” (who were keeping contact with their manager on phone) told me that they do not want me to stay in their hotel. Well, I was even happy for that, and asked to sign on my voucher that they deny my stay to receive back my payment, they start to swear that the stay is not charged so they can not provide and should not provide any paper, and they will call police if I will not leave the hotel. I called police myself, who told me that such situation is not under their control and I should talk later to my layers. However, as the hotel receptionists were insisting that police should come, I stay and after 2 hours of waiting a police officer, who perhaps was one of their friends, finally appeared, and told that I should leave the hotel and “if they in Germany says that did not charge, it means so, because they do not lie”, although, he himself was not of German origin. I left the hotel, as already called a taxi and booked a room at Sheraton hotel. Just imagine if one would not have money to afford another hotel he will stay homeless So one who can leave someone without a shelter /and it can do a person who has this in his blood this caracter/ but he himself will become homeless for his life, as bumerangue law is there always. KEEP THIS MONEY as a TIP FOR THE TOILET I used at their hotel. For more, their cheap and corrupt service does not cost. People were talking that Prince of Hannover love to pass by this hotel.

Unfriendly and rude staff, look like they do not receive celery and do not wish to work or respond to your questions. Dirty smelly carpets all over the hotel with the smallest rooms we ever seen. Shame to #Bestwestern chain to have it included. Step out of the hotel in the evening and appear in most dangerous area of the city with drunk shouting strangers. Just choose any other hotel in area but not this one. NO GO!

We were expecting a nicely furnished, cozy hotel room, as one can guess from photos, but we appear in an old hotel with very small rooms with smelly carpets :((( Wish we were booked another hotel. When your room is not nice, it influence all your vacation. Well, we mistaken because of best western, maybe it is Worst Eastern chain? Who knows? We would not recommend this hotel unless it is same for you to pay 4 and 2...

This hotel understands the art of hospitality! Without a doubt one of the best experiences I had in a while. Can highly recommend this place to anyone who needs a good night of rest in Essen and surroundings.

Definitely recommend for business or pleasure. Great location just opposite the train station with a lovely atmosphere and team. Efficient, organised and clean. Decor a bit dated but this hotel has great charm and is in a beautiful building. Shame not to be able to visit the restaurant attached due to the restrictions at the moment but would love to come back and do so.

Very good hotel with amazing staff. The room was perfectly clean and comfortable. Nice decoration, dressing, coffee into the room and TV. Very good bathroom. The girl at the reception was very kind. A real pleasure to sleep here! I do recommend!

This was an excellent hotel. We had a fabulous, spacious room with two work spaces, double sinks in the bathroom and an excellent shower. There was a separate toilet and bathroom. It was excellent value for money. · The extractor fan was a little noisy and went on for 10 minutes after leaving the bathroom or toilet. Our room was up a few stairs after going up in the lift which meant we had to drag our suitcases up them.

Only one thing to say: I never imagined that in 2019 a four-star hotel wouldn't offer air conditioning. The room was so hot that we decided to run away and find another hotel to stay in (the only thing a receptionist told us was that they could give us a fan for the night). Please don't book here during the summer: you will be cooked in their rooms.

This is a very nice and clean cityhotel. With good reception and service. The beds were comfortabel and the bathroom was modern, bright and clean. A few small misunderstanding regarding the booking, but the staff fixed everyhting quickly. I can recommend this hotel for families. Good location near metro and train station. I´ve would have given 5* if the aircondition would have been adjustable, but the room stayed fresh regardless of this.

Essen can be a bit intimidating with the “homeless” around the main station. This hotel is 3mins walk from the station. The staff were very friendly. The bar was in a train station style and was empty. Breakfast was very basic. Room was clean and relatively newly renovated. I would recommend this hotel over others in Essen which I've stayed at.

Directly at the Central Station of Essen. Room smelled very strongly of cold smoke but otherwise quite clean and firendly stuff and good breakfast. The area around the hotel is not very nice but on the other hand very central.
