Very nice hotel in the center of the village. Very conveniently placed and with parking facilities next door. Room was big and clean. Downstairs bar was also very nice. Hotel seemed recently renovated and staff was very friendly and helpful.
We stayed at the hotel for one night. The service and staff were professional. The room and bathroom were clean and met our expectations. The breakfast was varied and delicious. The parking lot is in front of the hotel and secured with a barrier. For a short stay the hotel is fine.
2 Nights and never again. Mosquitos is no good in room. First night killed a bunch. Then I asked to have the room fumigated. Next night was ok. Doors to bathroom was heavy and noisy. Ate at the restaurant first night. Food was ok but the waiting time. 1Hour and 20 minutes for one dish and dessert. Only 2-4 people in the place. Wonder how they will cope with a full house. Parking ok but not cheap. There is better places in Harderwijk.
A nice hotel in a lovely little town, we visited this hotel for the final 2 days of our European motorcycle tour, we entered hotel and reception went though our booking, advised it had been booked room only would we like to add breakfast, we did she asked would I like to put motorcycle in there garage (at a cost) our room was on the 5th floor it was small but clean and after all you only use it for sleeping. We had dinner in the restaurant it was a lovely meal and the bar was very nice. We ate in hotel restaurant our second night as well food again was fantastic and I thought it was very reasonable priced. Breakfast both mornings was very good with quality products and plenty of choice. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff I would have no problem recommending this hotel to family or friends and we will visit again. Thank you Best Western Hotel Baars
I would give the hotel a zero star if possible, the sheets had blood stains and hair strands, also the carpet and the shower were dirty plus the workers were horrible and accused me of lying and this is probably the worst hotel I have visited in netherlands
the most horrible hotel to stay in, with dirty carpets, very lazy and non-interested workers. do not go there! especially the blond woman at the desk. horrible. even with he "do not disturb"-sign on the door, the cleaners are entering your room at 8 in the morning. very bad hotel, after more than 30 years of hotel-experience, I can conclude that! DO NOT GO THERE!!
This is the original family hotel, genuine warm friendly staff. Clean high quality rooms with AC. Wifi that works for your email/ meetings. Fantastic food,at a very reasonable price, and amazing staff, YES I said it twice but its worth saying again. Try the Dutch cheese board .... a revelation!, with Port if your British. All in all the best hotel I've stayed in, and I send most of my year in hotels.
It was very comfortable stay. Very clean room with LCD Television, free wifi. Sometimes is harder to find parking place, but i ´ve parked my car everyday. Reception was very nice and frinedly. City square just around the corner. Breakfast were okay.
Mum and I stayed here twice during our cycling holiday, once at the start and once at the end. We were really impressed with the service on both occasions. This was particularly noticeable on the first night when the hotel offered to assist us by printing off directions/maps for the tour in English when the tour provider failed to do so. We were also able to store our luggage on our day of departure until nearer the time of our train, free of charge, this was extremely useful. Both rooms were large with comfy beds and beautiful bathrooms. The breakfast on offer is a buffet style and is really great; a range of options and a very relaxed feel. A fantastic place to stay to explore Harderwijk as it is close to the shops, the river and the supermarkets. Fabulous!
Stayed at the third floor with partly slanted wall. A bit tight around the bed. Modern bathroom, recently renovated. Room has nice pvc-floor with realistic wood print. Dust on cupboard. Very thin walls, could hear conversation in the next room. Sound insulation from street is poor. A lot of scooter and car sounds. The room is pretty warm, no airco. Hotel parking (€ 8,50 a night) is available and pretty close to the entrance.
If you are visiting this area, stay here. Bar is great for an after work drink and some good food. You are surrounded by so many restaurants that I could not mention half of them in this post, so I will mention my favorites. Jerusalem, BurgerZaken and Holy Moly.
Attentive management and staff, quick to respond, tastefully decorated, relaxing atmosphere, excellent food and wide range of beverages. Facilities and IT support are of a high standard.Situated within walking distance from the many central attractions of this historic town, make it the perfect location.
Stayed for 5 nights. Great night sleep. Nice breakfast in the morning and the evening meals are excellent. The staff are friendly and helpful. Only down side is parking at the hotel is limited and might have to stay in a parking garage a block or so away, but an easy walk. Lots to see an do in the area.
No air conditioning (unless you pay for a ‘luxury' room) breakfast poor. Room was stifling with no air con - fan provided but unacceptable in modern days where air con should be standard if you want a decent nights sleep.
We stayed at this hotel for one night on our way to Walibi Holland theme park. The rooms was comfy with air con, providing toiletries and tea/coffee, staff was friendly and the hotel was ideally situated in this beautiful town. We ate out at an Italian restaurant close to the hotel and then we sat outside the hotel for evening drinks. Very peaceful and picturesque.
I can't speak to the hotel, the outside looks nice. I was in the bar which is part of the hotel. After tramping around Harderwijk for looking a drink that in a place that wasn't a restaurant I found Baars. The staff are very nice, multilingual and it is warm. Good selection of draft and bottle beers, coffee too. A really olde worlde Dutch hotel bar lounge.
We purposely booked at Hotel Baars as we didn't want the traditional modern hotel. Our room was very spacious with a great view looking onto the church. Loved the sound of the chimming bells. Our room was on the dark side and could have done with more lighting. The heating worked well. The bed cover was very light and I thought we would be cold but as it turned out it was warm enough. There are blankets in the cupboards. WiFi fast and consistent. The Hotel is conveniently situated in the center of town so within walking distance of everything. Parking is available not to far from the Hotel. Staff are helpful and friendly. Overall a pleasant Hotel.
Good hotel, clean with nice rooms (I stayed in the suite which is quite spacious with a bathroom with jacuzzi ). Heating was a bit of a problem and took a while to warm up the room. Breakfast is adequate. Hotel offers parking down the street. Location is nice in the center of town.
The hotel and rooms are of a very good standard. Beds are comfy and everything is very clean and well maintained. The location is very good, it is right on the central road with many shops and restaurants. Only problem with this is that it was very noisy on a Friday night and didn't;t get much sleep. There was also a lot of noise from just outside my door, not sure what it was, kind of buzzing/machine sound??? Worthy of note is that there restaurant is lovely, really good food. In conclusion a good quality hotel but request a quite room away from the main road.
Let's start with the best thing of this hotel, the staff. They are very friendly and helpfull. Always greeting and making a small talk with children. Also the hotel has a parking permit for free parking nearby (5 min walk). This was excellent. Breakfast was sufficient and well stocked. However, the hotel is a bit dated. The basic are all there and it's fine for a night or weekend. But it is not very modern. The bed cover was synthetic and it was warm. All in all, a good stay with thanks to the staff.
The room was Poorly maintained rooms , dark and dingy, tv not work mini bar I stocked, need I go on !!! Heating went from freezing cold to boiling hot all night so not a comfortable stay. I complained but was told this is usual for there double room and if I wanted things to a better standard I should have booked a deluxe room.
I just returned from two phenomenal days at the Hotel Baars. First, the front office and service staff was extremely attentive. Second, the rooms were recently updated and, despite the traditionally small Dutch bathroom, the renovation made sure all amenities were tastefully available. I also had a gorgeous view from my room. Third, I had two dinners at the Hotel Baars and they were scrumptious, especially the Schnitzel served "Dutch" style. I also enjoyed the bountiful buffet breakfast. Overall the Hotel Baars comes with my highest recommendation.
we spent two nights at this hotel , the location , the hospitality , the room is a bit old but who cares? very nice buffet breakfast and above all I want to mention the the great man at the front desk Loy who did all he can to make our stay the best. well done....
A short but first class experience. My wife, daughter and I arrived around 9 pm and were greeted well by the receptionist and given an excellent room with very comfortable beds, before parking our car overnight in the nearby garage. In the morning we had an excellent breakfast from a wide choice of quality foods and a friendly chat with one of the staff. Check out was also quick and efficient. A great place to stay in a beautiful small town.
I have never stayed in a more welcoming and friendly hotel. The staff are superb and incredibly helpful. The food is excellent, as is the service. The room was clean, spacious and very comfortable. The location is very central. I will stay again next time I am in the area.
We read some good reviews on this hotel , but very disappointed when we arrived, the bar area is nice and welcoming but the room was not. Room was old tried and tatty, the double bed was two twins push together, the TV didn't work properly, the mini bar was not turned on as it didn't work and had a note stuck to it to go to the vending machine if you wanted anything, we asked to be moved to a different room but they told us nothing else was available, it got worst when we went to breakfast it was very low quality and no choice at all. My advice would be go somewhere else
Harderwijk is located somewhere hard to explain, but in the town itself - location of the hotel is very good. Bar is located in the same building as hotel, so if you need one more beer before sleep - the choice is yours. Breakfast is quite nice (omelet and sausages plus ingredients for sandwiches). When you enter your room during cold weather - it's really cold inside, so you need to turn heating by your self. Shower cubicle needs extra attention, as it looks like small spaceship with two seats and possibility to control flow directions. Unfortunately floor in bathroom is very cold. One thing that makes this hotel special - stairs. Inside stairs are like from Harry Potter movie, they go different directions and tall people - watch your head!
this hotel is lovely the staff are great and cant do enough for you the food is excellent too there is plenty to do in the area a few shops and plenty of bars and restuarants the dolphinaruim is only a 10 minute walk from the hotel which is well worth a visit
In short, middle of summer, stained dirty carpets, ageing towel and worst of all zero aircon in the rooms. Do not stay here in summer. Ever. The location is great, quiet and relaxing, and if this hotel could simply clean the carpets, replace the towels and install aircon it might be worth considering this on your next trip.
Spent the night here 9th August, what a beautiful Hotel with the worlds most comfortable beds just had my best night sleep in a long time...situated in the heart of Harderwijk surrounded by a good selection of bars and restaurants it's a great place to stay .., hope to return some day..thank you
Overall, the experience was fair. I had very good service by the wonderful women in the front, specifically Willeke van Norel and Femie Klein. PROS: - Location - conveniently located next to lots of shops (that don't ever seem open), Biddinghuizen (for music festivals), and more - Free parking - 5 minutes away to free parking, which isn't horrible, but you need to pay 8,50 euroes if you want to park in the back - Restaurant - the restaurant is surprisingly very good! Make sure to be clear what you order though. I noticed that they tended to bring the wrong orders (like we didn't want fries with one of the burgers). Not sure if they were pushing revenue, or just actually didn't understand us CONS: - The rooms are a bit old - stains on the walls, must smells from previous smokers or humidity, and more- - THE BREAKFAST - while the breakfast was abundant, they do NOT tell you that it is 11,50 euroes per person per day. I felt like this was a bit sneaky as they welcome you to come in and get breakfast, but do NOT ask your room #. By doing so, you begin to assume that the food is free. When you finish, they do NOT say anything to you, nor do you sign anything. Again, you don't think that you will get charged. While I understand that it should not be free, they should make an effort to actually tell you that it is NOT free so it is not a surprise later - During music festivals, expect the hotel to work with the cab companies (monopolies) and charge you 50 euroes to go back/forth about 19km to Biddinghuizen. Normal cost is about 25 euroes, but since there is very limited supply and barely any Ubers, they will nickel and dime you Overall, I would stay here again, but really wish people pre-warned me about how the hotel operates.
We have eaten at this restaurant (and stayed at the hotel) a few years ago and were very pleased. Now we went back for a nice dinner and were again pleased with the food and service. The menu is not very extensive but all dishes that we have tried so far are of a high quality standard and very tasteful. We will definitely return.
A great little hotel by Best Western. The feel of a European hotel with a bit of western charm. The rooms were nice size, but no air condition, but it cools off at night so open windows. Could use some screans to keep bugs. Bar and food was good. The town was a neat sea side resort.
We landed late in the day at Lelystad Airport and the incredibly helpful receptionist there booked us into this hotel and sorted out a taxi (48 euros). Then I read some of the hotel reviews on TripAdvisor! Harderwijk, the receptionist had advised, was preferable to Lelystad and indeed it turned out to be a fascinating place . Spent a great evening exploring the town (except for the swarms of midges by the waterside) trying to piece together the history of a place I had never realised existed just a few hours earlier. The hotel was more than decent. The room was spacious and comfortable with a view over the nearby church and totally quiet. Bed was comfortable, bathroom nice. WiFi was free with measured download speed of 7.69 Mbps - not too bad for a hotel. There's nothing really negative to say about it. We ate at the hotel and the set meal was excellent with great service. Breakfast perfectly pleasant too - the usual buffet-style continental affair.
Good room with pleanty of space, but then it was a suite. Clean. Bed a little on the soft side. Acces pritty good. Large bath. Small shower. Downside was difficult parking. The hotel is in the center of Hardewijk. The hotel has about 12 parking garages that you pay extra for. Don't bring a large car. I only just got mine in there. The alternative is one of the parking garages on the edge of the city. The upside was the food. You get large porting of really good food. If your into deserts, skip the starters and have the "lots of everything" desert. Too die for! The breakfast was good. A large selection of dutch and international foods.
Quite decent rooms and newer washrooms. What sends the rating down is mainly the lack of good heating, very bad lighting in the rooms. So if you need to work in your room, better bring your own lamps if you don't want to work in the dark. Wi-Fi Internet access is extremely poor, unless you ask the reception for a Hotspot password that will only give you access by the lobby or at the conference room. Beds are good, but janitorial services are substandard. There were long hairs all over the carpet from previous guests, then they didn't cleaned up the shower and bath tub for several days during my stay until I complained. Joints between the ceramic tiles were orange - yellow (this means bacteria buildup for the non experts). It seems that they never heard about bleach. Breakfast is a little bit below standard for the average hotel in the region but it's not really bad. They have a terrible card activated electrical system in the rooms, so when the card is taken off the switch, all the power in the room will go off. This means that if you leave your laptop or other important electrical devices running for your working needs, they will stop working as soon as you (or the room maid) removes the card. I won't say don't go there. The location is great, by beautiful downtown Harderwijk, with many good restaurants and pubs. But be prepared to be in the cold (if winter time) and to barely have Internet access in the rooms.
I came here visiting during winterholidays, because my husband is located here for work. The hotel is old and charming. The room was OK in size, but for what it costed I had expected more, and better facilities. Breakfast is not included, and if I had knew that at first, I would not eatend breakfast evry day. For 5 mornings there was no changes in what was served. Harderwijk is a smal town but have several good restaurants. Best time to spend here, I belive must be in the summer. Nice beach area.
Good hotel. A bit old now, but staff makes up for it. Still has mostly carpeted rooms, however they look great. Make sure to get a comfort room. Close to the small shopping street and restaurants. They will park your car for you if you ask them nicely. Wish they had a gym.
Close to city center and a number of restaurants, the location of this hotel makes it very convenient. During summer months, the rooms tend to get quite hot, so make sure to book a room with an air conditioner. The staff is terrific, including the bar / restaurant.
Smaller town and your options are not plentiful. If you set your expectations appropriately, you will live through it. Expectations should be for a clean, bare room. If it is cold, your room may feel like a 19th century orphanage, as mine did.
My father and I stayed at Baar's for 8 nights and were very pleased with the hotel over all. It is centrally located. The staff was very helpful, breakfast was the same everyday, but had enough options that you could mix it up a bit for variety. Heads up, if you like to open your windows at night for sleeping, the rooms on the Smeesportstraat side of the hotel are a bit noisy from vehicle traffic and late night partiers. Ask for one away from that street.
This was a coach trip to Amsterdam & Bruges over a long weekend, although the hotel was a bit far out from where we were going the staff went out of their way to be helpful and they were all charming, even waving us all off when we left on our last morning. The food was very nice and served up piping hot and attractively presented. A vegetarian option was available each evening. There is a beach nearby which is worth a look with some lovely shops and a market on Saturday. I would recommend this hotel.
Having read some reviews, I wasn't expecting much but this Hotel was far better than many others stayed in. Room was small but clean and well appointed. Breakfast was especially good with fresh produce and real scrambled eggs not the powder stuff! Evening meals were adequate and edible - nothing special but very welcome after a busy day. All in all I would recommend this hotel - and the Staff were excellent. It can't be easy catering for a coach party, having to do everything at the same time. Well done, Hotel Baars.
We stayed at hotel baars for three days on a coach holiday. It was great, nothing was too much trouble for the staff, they were good humoured and extremely helpful . Food was excellent. Lots of fresh vegetables and salads at every meal. Our room looked out onto the church and the square. It was a big room well furnished and very comfortable. Every member of our tour felt that this hotel could not be faulted. The staff made our stay in the Netherlands.
Having stayed previously in several Best Western franchise hotels, I wasn't expecting much of this one - the penultimate stage of our round the iIjsselmeer lake cycling tour. However, we were pleasantly surprised. The downstairs of the hotel is a rather limited and dated brasserie-style, but the room on the first floor was comfortable and modern. Strangely, the toilet was a separate room inside the bathroom. What made the greatest difference to our stay was the very friendly and helpful attitude of the staff, and the fact that our half-pension meal was the best we've had all week: fried mussel salad starter, preceded by a kiwi and ham appetiser, and followed by a choice of either salmon or pork. Both were good and very well presented. Dessert was also delicious. The meals were served quickly and staff were very attentive at all times. The hotel had a separate garage across the road for our bikes. It was also just a short stroll to the boulevard and the lake front, where we enjoyed a lovely evening walk with the sun setting across the water. Our best evening yet on this tour. I would recommend this hotel. I agree with other reviewers that it's a bit dated, but comfortable all the same. It's just inside the old city wall and right on the costal cycle path.
