"Nice stay, friendly staff"
V951PFdavidp, 02 Octobre 2024

We had a nice stay in this hotel. Staff were very friendly. Rooms and hotel were very clean. Room itself was small and the bathroom tiny and not hugely private. There was a patterned glass door, but not great. Shelf above the sink is in the way when cleaning your teeth!!! Aircon didn't seem to work leaving the room stuffy. Beds and pillows were very comfortable and the shower was good. Food at the hotel was excellent, both dinner and breakfast.

"Top Notch Experience"
Thomas B, 15 Septembre 2024

This is a wonderful hotel in a wonderful city! We stayed for only one night. The front desk upgraded us to a Deluxe Room, and it was great! The location can't be beat in central Bern. Spotlessly clean. Right next door is a fantastic grocery store where you can buy prepared foods. We didn't eat at the hotel restaurant, but it looked very appealing. The next time we return to Bern, I will try to book this hotel for sure!

"Awesome Stay"
erin464, 13 Septembre 2024

This hotel is fantastic! It is the only hotel we stayed at out of 7 as we traveled across Switzerland that had air conditioning. Not only that, but the room was beautifully decorated, with herringbone floors, a modern design, and an ornate pale blue ceiling. It was a small room, but built-ins helped make the space flow efficiently. I'm not 100% sure what room type we were in. I'd booked a Boutique Room in the Annex, which per the description, said that it was not accessible via the main building. However, our room was definitely part of the main building, so I think we were in a different room type. Whatever it was, it was amazing! Our room had a fridge, safe, and fancy coffee machine (that took a few tries to figure out, even with instructions!). The bathroom was a good size and had a waterfall shower head and a lighted magnifying makeup mirror. We also had a balcony, with a charming view at the back of the building overlooking other beautiful historic buildings and rooftops (the entire old town is architecturally protected). I only wish we'd had chairs and a table on the balcony so we could have sat out there and enjoyed it more! The hotel is in a great location just a block away from the clock tower and a few minutes' walk away from many restaurants and pubs. I loved that it has a Coop next door with an in-store restaurant. We had breakfast here each morning, and also ate a lunch and a dinner here. Super convenient and much more affordable than dining out in Switzerland! The other great thing about this hotel is that it has a beautiful rooftop bar. Note though, that when it is full the elevator will not let you go up. We tried this and wondered why we were pushing the elevator button for the bar, and nothing was happening. Eventually we went down to the front desk who clued us in. However, the receptionist overrode that and sent us up in the elevator to try our luck since we were hotel guests. One thing to note about the rooftop bar is that it is not entirely outside. It mostly is, but there is a small interior section with a bar and some tables, which came in super handy when it started pouring rain, forcing everyone inside. The only weird thing about this hotel is that when we first checked in, we had two facecloths, but after housekeeping cleaned our room the first morning, they never gave us facecloths again. They replaced all of the other towels but for some reason, never facecloths. Not a huge deal but something to note (I carry my own, just in case). We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

"Clean, comfortable, central."
floofers, 05 Septembre 2024

A clean, comfortable and centrally located hotel. Good value for money, too. Water pressure in the large shower was great. Little Toblerones on the pillow on arrival a nice touch. Breakfast had lots of different things to choose from and good coffee.

"Don't stay here during summer!"
Vince K, 18 Août 2024

It was a hot summer day (in the 80s). The hotel is advertised as having air conditioning, but the fan was only blowing warm air into the room, even at the “coldest” setting. I understand that it is common in Europe for air conditioning to not be as cold as we expect in the U.S., but this was just bad. They should not be allowed to advertise their hotel as having air conditioning if the cooling is non-existent! We had to sleep with the windows open all night, which led to mosquito bites (and we had to deal with outside noise like clocks chiming). I would not recommend this hotel during the summertime. Other than the heat, it was a nice hotel that is centrally located to old town Bern,

"Clean, comfort, central"
lovinglife1113, 14 Août 2024

Really enjoyed our stay here. The hotel is centrally located in the old city. Our room was very quiet, clean and comfortable. The mattress was great (we like it on the harder side). They offer breakfast as well. We will definitely stay again when in Bern.

"4* Review for a 4* Hotel"
Samuel C, 31 Mai 2024

The hotel was absolutely everything you would want from an inner-city hotel: Clean and very well positioned - a ten minute walk from the main train station and right at the start of the Old Town. The room was well-sized and the en suite was fantastic. The breakfast was OK; I think on both days we were later in the breakfast sitting and the selection had deceased. The only semi-major issue was that the air-con didn't work.

"Wonderful simply wonderful"
LLMCA, 30 Mai 2024

Ohh la la. What a breath of fresh air after staying in Switzerland for 15 days [ and 6 other hotels] this was the cherry on the cake as our last stop. This hotel is 4 stars, from the staff, the restaurant, the bar on the top floor, the size and cleanliness of the room, to its location. Stay here! (for as many nights as you can) You will Not Be Disappointed.

"Perfect location in Bern"
jamaplus, 23 Février 2024

This hotel is in a lovely location near old town Bern. SO many wonderful stores and restaurants nearby and a full service grocery store. We reserved a deluxe room which was spacious and comfortable. Standard rooms can be quite small. The staff were kind and helpful. The rooftop lounge and patio were first class. We didn't eat at the hotel restaurant but will definitely do so on our next stay. Would highly recommend this hotel.

"Best Western plus bern"
GrandTour589523, 15 Février 2024

Very good hotel, located in the center of Bern, close to the Train Station (7min walk) and to the river. I was even upgraded cost free to a better room. I like Nespresso coffee machine in the room and Rituals soap/shampoo 😊

"Excellent location and very clean, comfortable modern rooms"
AngusMilly, 29 Décembre 2023

Very clean, modern and comfortable rooms where everything works well. Friendly staff. Great rooftop bar and fondue area. Easy (flat) walk from main train station (exit station by tourist information office for the most direct route to the hotel). Hotel is right in the middle of the old town and close to restaurants, shops and main tourist sights. The astronomical clock is just a street away! Breakfast was ok but they kept running out of things and we had to wait for dishes to be replenished. Also there is no door to shower/bath and an opaque glass door to toilet which you can sort of see through - a lovely modern room but VERY open plan!

"The place to stay in Bern"
Traveler21521847415, 26 Décembre 2023

Our stay at the Best Western Plus Hotel Bern was fantastic! The hotel's location in the heart of Bern's old city was ideal. The rooftop restaurant boasted incredible city views, and the food was delicious. The staff was attentive, the rooms were comfortable, and the hotel's central location made exploring Bern convenient. Definitely recommend this spot for a memorable stay in Bern, especially for the stunning views from the restaurant!

"One of my best rested nights"
Vguudeal, 20 Décembre 2023

Reception was very welcoming and friendly esp SV. Room was properly warmed and sufficiently big. Instructions pre-arrival (hard pillow and setting up sofa bed) were carried out which made checking in efficient. Toilet was clean and the bed and general comfort probably gave me my best night of rest on a 14-day trip. Toilet door could be more opaque though…

"Just one problem "
arlenetravels, 28 Octobre 2023

We liked this hotel. It's well-located, with lots of nearby options for morning coffee and dinner. Room was attractive, clean & modern. The one problem is that there are almost no electrical outlets. None at all in the bathroom, none near the bed, so it was really inconvenient to charge phones & tablets. I understand that it's an old building, but this is fixable.

"Pluses and minuses for Hotel Bern on the edge of Old Town"
JGR001, 23 Octobre 2023

Best Western Plus, which used to be Hotel Bern, is strategically located on the fringe of the Bern Old Town. In front of it is the French Church and to the side is KornHaus. The hotel itself is narrow but deep, with a very small lobby. We were given a room in their ‘annex', a standalone structure inside the block, where you had to cross the terrace of the original hotel, then climb up a short flight of stairs to the newer structure. There were only nine rooms in this annex since the rooms were ‘suites', with a bedroom and a living room, both with doors, separated by a hallway that included the door, the T&B, the washbasin, and the wardrobe-safe-ref cabinet. In the living room is a sofa bed with a TV screen on the opposite wall, and the work table with chair under the TV screen, plus a small coffee table. What was impressive were the BBC channels, in addition to CNN and CNBC. The T&B was pretty small. The wash basin was outside, opposite the T&B sliding door. The bedroom had its own TV screen. We didn't appreciate the low ceiling. The AC was centralized. There were two floor lamps that didn't seem to work. Breakfast was on the restaurant on the lower ground. They had no custom egg service but at least they had fried eggs in addition to scrambled and hard-boiled options.

"High price doesn't match the experience at all. "
Philip B, 01 Octobre 2023

Morning staff was pleasant. The evening gentleman was not. Air conditioning was turned off September 30 because "it's Autumn," even though it was 76F/24C. We were told there was nothing they could do about our miserably hot room other than open a window. We did that, but it did not help with anything other than making the drunk partiers outside even more obnoxiously loud. They also charged us for more laundry service than we actually sent down. I would never stay here again, nor recommend anyone else do so. It's far too expensive for such a poor experience. The neighborhood is conveniently located, but the hotel is a real disappointment.

"Nice Stay in Bern"
EKandRK, 04 Septembre 2023

Nice hotel. Room was small but had everything we like/need. Location was great, just around the corner from the Clock Tower. Breakfast was decent. Staff were all friendly. Two off site parking options which the furthest was a 5 or so minute walk but there is room in front of the hotel to stop and drop luggage. Hotel also provided discounts for parking. Roof top bar was nice with great views.

"Excellent hotel for location and comfort when visiting Bern"
spaggia, 02 Septembre 2023

We were met with the warmest of welcomes when we arrived by a gentleman working at reception on the evening of our booking. We had booked a deluxe room and it was spacious and comfortable. After unpacking we went for drinks up on the rooftop terrace which was lovely. The hotel was in easy walking distance to all we wanted to see and visit in Bern. We would highly recommend this hotel.

"Cute & Cozy"
AstridBG, 05 Août 2023

I was really surprised how luxurious our room was. This hotel exceeded my expectations. After a long travel day, it was nice to sleep on a clean and cozy bed!!! Too bad I didn't spend enough time there. I would highly recommend and if I am ever in Bern again, I will definitely stay there again.

"Wonderful hotel in a beautiful city!"
422anon123anon, 20 Juillet 2023

The room is beautiful and big, with a great bed, a small fridge, and a large bathroom. There are two elevators, there's a supermarket next door, and the tram is nearby. The location is fantastic, right in the center. The city is wonderful too, I loved the bears! On the first night, the air conditioning started leaking. The next day I had quite a puddle on the floor. I told reception and within a few hours they had fixed the problem and cleaned the room, a very fast and wonderful service. I didn't have problems with it again and the air conditioning worked perfectly, for which I was very glad as it was summer and very hot outside.

"Nice Hotel"
Sushmi K, 12 Juillet 2023

Excellent. It lacks parking. Wish parking is there inside the hotel. Everyone in the family enjoyed the stay. Television has programs for Arabic and European audiences. Could include more american and asian channels.

"Modern and well located hotel"
Sam C, 08 Juillet 2023

Room is spacious and we were given a room in another building with a private balcony. Even though there is nothing to view from there facing building inside, the cushions and a table arranged there are good for a short stay with a cup of tea/coffee. Location is good. A bit far away from train station by walking, but still manageable. Walking distance to the old town area though. There was also an incident that the front desk was helpful. After checked out and left the hotel, we found we left a camera somewhere in the room. We went back to hotel and we were offered help immediately. If I will stay in this town again, will likely choose this one as first option.

"Excellent hotel with coll roof bar"
SwissMarcello, 04 Juillet 2023

Excellent small hotel in Bern Old Town. Great rooftop bar with good mojitos and excellent views over the city (not cheap though). Smallish, but comfortable rooms with air condition, good beds and desks to work at.

"Perfect location and great hotel"
Ben C, 30 Juin 2023

Ideal central location with plenty of restaurants and supermarkets nearby for lunch and dinner options. Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly giving us their recommendations about public transport and answering any questions we had. The rooftop bar was especially a favourite of ours and was utilised about 3 times in the one night we were there. Breakfast in the morning was excellent as the choice was brilliant. Already planning our next trip

"Above and beyond service"
I6719ZHmicheld, 06 Février 2023

We recently arrived in bern after a long day of traveling from the united states and the service from jiri on the hotel staff went above and beyond to make our stay more comfortable. The other staff members of the hotel were also very helpful for locating points of interest throughout the city.

"Best Stay in Switzerland!"
Jennh0, 23 Janvier 2023

It was the best decision ever that we chose Best Western Plus Hotel Bern as our base for 8 nights! We booked a Suite-1 Double Bed for three adults and were pleasantly surprised that our room was a lovely two-bedroom suite designed like an apartment - a home away from home after a long day and spacious enough for us ladies. The hotel is approximately a 7-minute walk from Bern Bahnhof (Bern Central Station). You could also enjoy window shopping along Marktgasse as you walk! Alternatively, if you travel with luggage, you could use the extensive tramway to take you to the hotel. Take tram numbers 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10. Alight at Zytglogge, two stops from Bern Bahnhof. Ideally located within the old town, attractions such as Bern Minster, Parliament Building, and Einstein House are within walking distance from the hotel. Moreover, Coop supermarket is next door if you need to get your daily necessities or a quick hot meal!

"A clean, bright hotel - conveniently located in the center of Bern, would stay again"
Adventure09873073498, 08 Janvier 2023

Visited here after Christmas 2022 for 5 nights and we had a wonderful stay. The hotel is very up to date with high quality finishes, comfortable bedding and a great shower. The rooms were a bit small but did have a great closet to unpack into. I would have appreciated an included breakfast offering or just some morning snacks in lieu of the paid full sit down service. We both would certainly stay again.

"Nice hotel in good location"
Ezz1_12, 03 Janvier 2023

Lovely hotel that is nicely decorated in a simple but modern design. The reception staff were helpful and pleasant. We were happy with our room, modern and comfortable and a nice bathroom. We slept well on the 5th floor. Our only issue was that other guests were smoking in their rooms/ bathroom as in the morning there was a lot of cigarette smoke fumes in our room coming from the vent in the shower. We notified reception at checkout and they seemed to make a note of it. Other than that a good stay.

"Overnight business trip"
gjjui, 28 Décembre 2022

Lovely hotel, impeccably clean, with a gorgeous roof top bar Welcoming staff and easy check in Was incredibly expensive for one night on business. My room was on the top floor and was huge with a stunning en-suite Right in the centre close to bars restaurants etc etc

"Enjoyable stay"
bk_in_chgo03, 27 Décembre 2022

Hotel is close to old town and train station. Hotel was a bit older but in excellent condition and a remodeled bathroom. Comfortable beds. Our room had a balcony with a bit of a view. Rooms were quiet. Would stay again if in Bern. Did not try the bar or restaurant.

"Terrible stinking hotell"
tarmoploom, 17 Décembre 2022

It is the worst stinking hotell from hundreds of hotells I have visited. Hotell room stinked so bad, that it was not possible to sleep. From service personal there was no help, service personal made it with their comments even worse. I booked for two nights. I left hotel after one night.

"Excellent location, comfortable stay, staff a bit snarky"
RamblinRoes, 15 Décembre 2022

The location of this hotel is exceptional. It is in the center of the Old Town, steps away from the clock tower and easy access to the train and trams. Also very handy to supermarkets, local shopping and dining. Our standard room was quite comfortable and very clean. The breakfast is pricey (they all are in Switzerland) but a good value. Our only comment would be that the front desk staff could be a bit snarky. Polite but not friendly if that makes sense. It was our only experience in several cities and multiple stays that we felt the welcome was begrudged for some reason. It was really no big deal - just strange. Regardless, would happily stay again and recommend highly.

"Great hotel but just wanted a drink"
BobN676, 01 Décembre 2022

I stayed here in September. Lovely hotel to sleep but I visited the bar for a drink and felt like the staff ignored me despite being sat at the actual bar. It took ages to get a drink or to be acknowledged by the staff. Not sure if I was missing something or a way of doing things or the protocol for engaging with staff but it was really disappointing after a long journey.

"Best Best Western!!!"
Curlygir, 06 Novembre 2022

This Best Western is the best one that we ever stayed at! This is far better than any Best Western that we've stayed at in the states! The service is great and the room was fantastic!! The location can't be beat. We would definitely stay here again!!

"Great central location"
Traveller376, 29 Octobre 2022

The biggest benefit of this hotel is its central location. It is close to the clock tower and is surrounded by many restaurants and shops. It is within walking distance of the train station. The rooms are small but comfortable and clean. The use of light colored wood in the hotel brightens it up and is calming. We didn't have breakfast here so I can't comment.

"Swiss vacation"
Lyndon O, 02 Octobre 2022

This hotel has an excellent location and awesome staff. A great experience for us. We would re-book this hotel in an instant. We have travelled for over a month and this facility was superb! I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

"Comfortable and Modern Hotel in Great Location"
sjk52, 19 Septembre 2022

I stayed at Best Western Plus Bern Hotel for two nights. It is perfectly located right in the center of the city and an easy ten minute walk from the train station. We arrived early, and the hotel stored our luggage until check in at 3. The room was decently sized especially for a European city hotel and must have been recently renovated. This hotel isn't exactly unique and charming the way of smaller boutique spots, but it is very clean and modern. Everything was comfortable. The staff was accommodating. We didn't try the breakfast but it looked very good!

"Location!! Location!!"
vireshjain, 29 Août 2022

The room 705 is flawed. You have to take multiple flights of stairs to reach your room, very inconvenient for people traveling with luggage. It also crosses the seminar room!!!!!! Then the bathroom door did not work for a family travelling with a daughter!!!! the door doesnt close properly and is always ajar, and the best part it opens fully on a simple touch. On complaining the answer was they are aware and it will take at least a week for parts to arrive. In BERN!!! FEDERAL CAPITAL!!! And why the heck will you SELL a unserviceable room!!!! The only good thing about the hotel is location.

"Book a flexible rate"
RomyF_13, 20 Août 2022

Be careful when booking this hotel. I booked through Best Western ( I am a member). I did not realize that my booking was non-refundable. I had to postpone my trip because of illness and the hotel did not even honor a change in days. (Another hotel honored this request even with the restricted booking). I lost my money. I am in Bern a lot. I have eaten in their restaurant. The food is good but expensive. Don't know about the accommodations because they would not honor my need to change.

"BEAUTIFUL PLACE IN BEAUTIFUL CITY!!!"
atanasyolov, 15 Août 2022

I am Atanas Yolov from Bulgaria. I and my family lived in Best Western Plus Hotel Bern for 4 days from 16.07. to 20.07.2022. it was our first time in Switzerland and in Bern and we were pleasantly surprised by the wonderful hotel and the magnificent city. The hotel is an old building, but spotlessly clean and in excellent location. The employees are always smiling and extremely polite. We were especially helped by the administrators Mrs. Irene and Mr. Vicenzo, for we are very grateful to him. We will gladly return to Bern Hotel.

"Nice hotel in a Great Location"
joe_desourdie, 12 Août 2022

The location is amazing less than 5 minutes away from old town and a bunch of restaurants and activity. Hotel was very clean and the bathroom was very nice. Price was very reasonable compared to other options and well worth the money. Some reviews said it was loud but I did not have that problem at all- was very quiet our entire stay. Breakfast is very expensive though so be prepared to eat elsewhere in the morning.

"In the hearth of the city!"
Athens85, 26 Juillet 2022

This hotel is located downtown in the city of Bern. All the majors' landmarks of the Swiss Capital can be easily reached on foot. If you arrive by car, a parking is located 3-4 minutes on foot from the hotel with a special price for hotel guests. Even if you are coming by train in 10 minutes, you can reach Bern main station. We booked a Deluxe Room that was very modern and comfortable with a small balcony. I believe the hotel was recently renewed. Rituals products in the bathroom are a plus! Breakfast was also very good with a great choice. I strongly recommend this hotel for a stay in Bern.

"Good Location, Good Hotel"
GeneP788, 19 Juillet 2022

We stayed one night and the place is very convenient, centrally positioned and accessible to the city centre. It was easy to go around and the staff well trained. The room was adequate in size for European standards and very clean . The amenities are adequate. We could have stayed longer.

"Great hotel that is centrally located"
FlowerLover77, 14 Juillet 2022

This is a great hotel right in the middle of old town Bern. There are two parking options, one is an underground parking lot about 3 minutes away (walking) and makes sense if you are parking between 5 PM and 9 AM the next day (it costs $18) and the second option is another underground parking lot That is seven minutes away (walking) that makes sense if you're parking for 24 hours (it costs $28 for 24 hours). In either case, it has very good restaurant indoors with an outdoor seating area, the hotel and restaurant workers are very helpful and speak fine English, and the room is very clean. We had room 433 and they said it was one of the biggest ones in that class of room. It seemed like a queen size bed (based on US sizes). I would definitely stay there again because it is centrally located Two lots of things in Old Town Bern. There is a self-serve laundromat called Jet Wash that is about a seven minute drive away from the hotel.

"Historic hotel in old Bern"
Camila W, 07 Juillet 2022

Worthwhile to read the history of the building and the hotel which reveal the progressive background of Switzerland---not generally associated with the country--and the foreigners that have found a welcoming place there, from Albert Einstein, to Lenin and other more recent refugees.

"Good bern hotel"
harmonymanila, 06 Juillet 2022

Hotel have a nice room and the staff are extra nice courteous. The place is clean. Breakfast is ok. Staff at breakfast are also very helpful. Hotel also have free shampoo and soap. The bed is soft and also pillows. Each room have safety box. Hotel is also near the stores and grocery. Walking distance. thanks

"A quality hotel in a great location"
Emma D, 24 Juin 2022

Our visit to Switzerland had to be cancelled in 2021 but Hotel Bern kindly transferred my 2-night booking to June 2022 and it was worth the wait. I had booked a deluxe room with breakfast for both days and we ate in the restaurant for the first night as well. It was well worth the extra money to book the deluxe room (room 412) as we had more space than in a standard room, a sofa in the sitting area and little lobby on entry with storage. The hotel is very quiet despite being in the centre of the city and we even had a little balcony for fresh air. The room was well appointed, modern and clean. The bed was so comfortable and the rain shower was luxurious. Despite not being a very large room, it was very well designed with a clever use of storage and the coffee machine. Security was also good at the hotel. It was a comfortable temperature that we could easily alter using the air-con system or simply let fresh air in by opening the door to the balcony which some hotels do not have the option of. If I was being pushed to find fault I would say that an extra socket for the hairdryer outside of the bathroom and near a mirror would be helpful but that really is a minor point. We ate in for the first night and the food was a good quality with a wide menu - try the house burger - very good. We were even given a little 'amuse bouche' in between courses. Prices are good here - prices across Switzerland are much higher than in the UK and other places in Europe but Hotel Bern prices were reasonable compared with other hotels and restaurants. The hotel is excellent located with just a short walk to all places of interest - the historic clock, river and bears den (we saw all three bears). It is a historic hotel and it is nice to stay somewhere with character rather than a faceless hotel. Bern as a city was also revelation - so clean and attractive and well worth a visit. If we are ever lucky enough to come to Switzerland again, I would definitely stay here again without hesitation - thank you.

"Great location, great staff"
mehmin, 06 Avril 2022

This was our very first stay at BW. The location was central. The room was recently remodeled, tidy and clean. The bathroom and shower was exceptionally modern and functional. Celine at the front desk was most helpful, courteous and always a smile. 7 minute walk from Bahnhof through downtown with the streets buzzing with crowd in shops and cafés. 1 minute walk to the river and the popular bridge. 2 minute walk to the parliament building and beautiful view of the Alps on a clear day. Will certainly come back.

"Convenient stay when in Bern"
StephanieSuni, 14 Décembre 2021

Center of everything. Right next to hotel is clock tower, walking ahead is the pit bear or take SBB train few blocks away. Coop supermarket is just next building! Hotel privide free Public transport for roaming around Bern! So thanks for!

Super clean and a really nice hotel. We would definitely book again. All the people were very nice and the room was extremely clean. Also everyone was very helpful for all kind of information. A big thank you to the team

"Nice"
Member_France, 22 Août 2021

We spent one night in this hotel and loved its location in the beautiful old town. Our room was not too big but nice and functional. Next time we will ask for a room at the back, as we like to sleep with open windows, and the noise from the street was quite loud. What is really a pity is that the rooftop bar was not open, so we did not get to enjoy the view, which was one of the reasons for which we chose this hotel.

"highly recommended"
Peter S, 25 Mai 2021

The staff were all very friendly and helpful, the food was excellent, room was clean and disinfected, the shower was large and easy to use. We were travelling with our e-bikes that could be securely stored in the cellar, although the lift was too small to accommodate them so the stairs had to be used.

"Loved this hotel"
Karl L, 25 Mars 2021

As the heading says when we finally found this hotel after a few wrong turns from Google Maps it turned out to be close to everything and not difficult to find at all. Historically it's a gem as it was originally a Volkshaus which is a trade union house where members could go for meetings, a meal a chat or just a bath back in the late 19th century. A book in the room traces the history back to the buildings foundation which was great to read if you like history. It's in the centre of the old town and close to the main monuments and shopping areas. The restaurant was excellent with a lovely array of dishes available during Covid which made a nice change. Everything served was perfectly cooked and served with a smile and it was reasonable by Swiss standards. Breakfast in the same restaurant was continental and I think you could ask for a hot breakfast but we weren't offered this as an option which was the only issue we had in this hotel. Rooms are clean bright contemporary and well maintained and well stocked with tea coffee a mini bar etc. Everyone we met was friendly especially the young girl in reception who was so helpful and unbelievably happy every time we met her so find out who she was and thank her for us. Like I said at the start I loved this hotel, where it was how friendly it was it's history and the food so what else do you want from a hotel?

"A star in the Best Western universe"
THS2010, 21 Octobre 2020

This hotel epitomizes what often makes Best Western excellent value in Europe. Staff were very friendly and helpful (although one local restaurant recommendation wasn't very good), room and surroundings werer super clean and felt new (not sure if the property was recently renovated but it sure felt like it) and room amenities first class. The restaurant was very good for breakfast and one dinner but note that on Sundays there is nothing else open nearby. With a great location right in the centre of the city (and next door to a supermarket) this was a great stay and amongst the best value of our travel in Switzerland.

"Beautiful"
juliakV875YJ, 22 Septembre 2020

Everything was really super! We had a great weekend here. Nice room, hotel has a perfect location on the old center! Also there is a wonderful atmosphere panorama bar on the top! Next time if I come back I would like to stay here again!

"Fantastic Experience"
Nadia3137, 03 Juillet 2020

Fantastic hotel, wonderful staff, clean gorgeous rooms. I loved everything about my stay. When I arrived I was greeted by a wonderful receptionist Celine, she gave me the best room I could have hoped for and was eager to help in any way. The hotel is in the center, very clean, rooms look fantastic, it has an air condition (life saver in the heat), bed is very comfortable, bathroom and shower fabulous. There is a panorama bar on the top with fantastic view of the city. The rooms are very quiet. All the members of the staff were eager to help in every way and always had a big smile on their faces. AT departure I was given a small gift as gratitude for my stay. Loved, loved Loved everything about my stay and will stay there again.

"OK - but don't stay here until the rebuilding is finished"
Maurer123, 27 Février 2020

In my view it is unacceptable to keep a hotel open during extensive rebuilding and refurbishment. The noise - which starts before 8am is one thing - but the noxious fumes quite another. Otherwise a good central location.

"Very very Bad "
rabeasibai, 27 Février 2020

We checked in for 3 nights and the hotel under total reconstruction, room smell paint your lungs will be feels like a wall , workers all around from 6.00 am - 6.00 pm I have called them 3 times to change my room they said fully booked I don't recommend at all You can't sleep from sounds

"Great place in the heart of old town"
AnnEFaraola, 24 Février 2020

We stayed here 2 nights. The room was very well decorated and comfortable The shower was fabulous. It was walking distance to everything in Bern. The 12:00 pm checkout was great. We didn't have to rush out on our last morning. If I ever return to Bern, I'll stay here again

"The hotel is in the middle of a massive rebuilding and refurbishment project"
Sheenite, 29 Janvier 2020

I am sure it wil, be very nice when completed, and the restaurant and newly refurbished room I stayed in were very good quality, but right now it is noisy from 8ish with builders drilling and hammering. Ask them when they are completing before you book if you care about this.

"For the Young Athletic Professional"
LuViPortland, 22 Janvier 2020

In case you're used to the breakfast buffet that BW properties throughout Europe and elsewhere include in the cost of the room, you might notice "Breakfast buffet" under "Amenities," then "show more" in this Tripadvisor listing. If you're a BW member and actively seek Best Western whenever you travel, you can't be faulted for assuming that breakfast is included in the price here. It isn't. We were given the last room completed, sharing a wall with the next room to be completed. The hammering felt as if it were happening inside our room, and the workman was gracious to let us know that he was nearly done. He hadn't thought that we were in the room. All the people at the hotel were just as friendly, and are working under very difficult conditions as they renovate the property. Front desk and breakfast room workers are respectful and do everything to make guests feel welcomed. The room: Outlets about ten centimeters from the floor are black. Most European outlets use two-prong plugs, so getting to the floor and working with adapters into unfamiliar outlets can be quite difficult unless you are Swiss and accustomed to the three-prong outlet, designed three-to-a-location, and black. Black is certainly more stylish than white, but plan to be on the floor and bring a flashlight to see the outlets. The room temperature control seems adequate: Three fan settings which were working, and an ample temperature range which was not; the room was hot no matter how low we turned the thermostat. We couldn't open the door to the little balcony because the balcony was under construction. The bathroom designer must have enjoyed creating this bathroom. But I doubt they ever negotiated using it. I can't remember a tub /shower anywhere without a single grab bar. The hand held vertical bar is located in a position that forces water out of the surround and into the bathroom. The tub is very large and comfortable. However, getting into the tub and reaching the taps made us feel lucky to be tall. More on bathroom design: The round window between the bathing area and the sleeping area is, again, stylish, especially if your travel companion and you don't mind a hint of exposure. But if one of you gets up in the middle of the night, take that flashlight because turning on the bathroom light will light up the sleeping area. In conclusion, a very notable design project with wonderful, hard-working employees, more suitable for guests who don't care if their room is "easy" to use.

"Below expectations"
Ol_Kino89, 26 Décembre 2019

Queen room by the renovation works at the hotel. Renovations done during Christmas time. No working internet so had to cancel some important Skype meetings with colleagues in other parts of the world. I am pretty sure I won't stay at Best Western ever again. Anywhere in the world.

"Very noisy, nice new rooms, but without a view"
icbernard, 08 Décembre 2019

Pros and Cons. It is nice to be in newly renovated rooms. I have nothing to say against the room. Everything was clean and new. I liked the way they arranged the separation between the sink/shower and the bed, with a sliding panel. The bed was very comfortable. However, perhaps because of the major renovation, forget about hot water except if you are among the first to shower. It was barely reaching 35 °C. And it does not improve in the afternoon. Also, the construction makes a lot of noise. They start in the morning, but if you need to work, it is very difficult even if you play your own music loud. What I did not like at all, is having my window facing other windows 5 m away. There is a central light well, and the windows of many rooms were facing it. Given its small size you do not get any daylight in your room. And you can see everything happening in the other rooms, so you have to close with the thick curtains. Breakfast was decent, nothing special. They make the eggs you want. The railway station is just 10 min walk away. There you'll get all buses and trams you need (don't forget the transportation pass that the hotel gives you). The location is nice too, in the center of the old city. Finally, there is a vey nice run to do along the river. Exit the hotel to the right, and then turn right on the main avenue, continue straight to the bridge, cross it on the left side. At the end, there are stairs and then a trail connecting you to the river, go to the right. You can run without cars for at least 5 km. Since you run a U shape path, with the city center inside the U, it is possible to go back to the hotel with a bridge located on the other side of the U.

"Location "
90priscilab, 08 Octobre 2019

Really comfortable hotel with good bed sheets, towels and pillows. Great location. We did not hear noisy from the construction, and the staff were really helpful and nice. We got free drinks on their restaurant and a free entrance for the cassino

"Great hotel, great location"
Mike2407, 01 Octobre 2019

I'm not quite sure why some of the reviews of this hotel are so negative regarding construction work. OK so the hotel is undergoing major renovation but they're not exactly hiding it. I was sent an email after booking warning me there was building work going on and that there would be noise and disruption and I could cancel if I wished. However, as I was staying at a weekend I went ahead. Even though there is clearly a temporary feel to some parts of the hotel (the reception and lifts for example) the staff were quick to explain what was happening and answer any queries. The room I stayed in was newly refurbished and was finished to the highest standards. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the bathroom and shower were very modern and there were enough power points around the room for more than my needs. There was a Nespresso coffee machine in the room and even an umbrella in case of rain! The hotel was right in the centre of Bern only about a 7 minute walk from the main station. When the hotel is finished I'm sure it will very impressive. Just a word about the girls on reception who were all friendly and very helpful with any queries.

"A little upgrading should be fine"
nelizza, 23 Septembre 2019

The entrance was under renovation when we were here last month. Had no proper signage of where the entrance is. Room was clean, the size was okay but there was no view :(. The bathroom was big and I love the toiletries and the sliding door between the bedroom and bathroom. The aircondition was not working well but we didn't bother to complaint as we were there for less than 24 hours. Breakfast was decent but it was nice.

"hotel is very nice with excellent location but currently under construction"
desislavabuyukliiska, 10 Septembre 2019

this hotel has the best location you might wish in Bern - in the heard of the downtown, surrounded by many restaurants and bars, close to everything, only 5min walk to the central station, very quite area, but in the same time full if life. Hotel room was really beautiful furnished and very comfortable, I felt like home during my 16days stay. I really liked the espresso coffee machine in my room and Rituals cosmetic provided by the hotel. What I didn't like was the two elevators - one to the reception and another one to the room, and the lobby was small and not really pleasant to stay, but I hope that when the renovation finishes it will look really great. Breakfast was good but a bit boring if you stay too long.

"Not Up to Best Western Standards"
mercedcampgirl, 03 Septembre 2019

My husband and I are big fans of Best Western hotels, however, our stay in the Bern BW was completely disappointing. We were on the 5th floor which was under construction with workers, tools, equipment, wiring, dust and noise everywhere. Maybe this was only on the 5th floor where we had our room. I don't know. If so, they should have closed off that floor to guests and only booked rooms where hallways weren't full of projects in progress. I feel bad leaving a bad review as we, like I said, normally love our Best Western hotel stays. Bad decisions were made by management to have guests walking around this mess! (Please see photos.) The room was clean, yay!, but the decor was stark and cold, not welcoming at all. Finally, our room had no air conditioning, only a fan. This was not sufficient during Switzerland's record heat wave. With global warming, Best Western Bern needs to realize that air conditioning is needed to keep its guests comfortable and happy!

"Very centrally located in Old Town and near to train station"
Crvan, 26 Août 2019

When we stayed there, the hotel was undergoing extensive renovations however we were notified of it before we made the reservations and also the renovations in no way impeded our stay at the hotel. The renovation work was only done during the day while we were out touring. The hotel is extremely well located in the heart of Old Town as we walked with our suitcases from the main train station in under ten minutes. We were also literally a three minute walk from the old clock tower and everything else Old Town Bern had to offer. While the hotel offered breakfast for a fee, we went to other more affordable places for breakfast. The room we had was large and had not yet been renovated however it was very comfortable and clean. We arrived early and they offer baggage storage until your room is ready. The staff at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful with any questions we had. While the hotel is under renovations, this may not appeal to everyone however we highly recommend the hotel for its great staff and location. We would definitely return to this hotel in the future.

"Construction noise unacceptable"
Honesttravelr, 26 Août 2019

Do not even consider staying at this hotel until the construction is completed. The noise begins at 7:00 a.m., lasts throughout the day, and hopefully ends at 18:00. It is very loud and very stressful. Wish we had known before we booked here. The location is good and the room and staff are nice, but nothing can compensate for the noise. The hotel should not be open during this major construction. Also the air conditioning does not appear to be working and it is hot!

"Worst Hotel"
LolaNaida, 11 Juillet 2019

Hotel is under renovation and it is noisy smelly stinky and very hot! NO air conditioning only a small fan. No water after midnight. No free water. No garbage cans in the room no tissue. No nothing Room is poorly organized. Outlets are inconveniently located very low in corners! Almost no space to walk aroun. Receptionists are unfriendly Not worth money paid The only good point is location and very nice efficient breakfast staff. Food is okay. Everything else is BAD! NEVER AGAIN will we set forth in this overrated hotel.

"Loud building work & mess"
star17city, 27 Juin 2019

We stayed at the hotel which is being renovated, so much of it is a mess with exposed fittings & plastic on floor & boxes laying around. The corridors are basically a building site. Not sure why the hotel didn't just close but I guess profit is more important than providing guests with a proper service. We were told that the building work would only be carried out from 0800-1800. But it started bang on 0715. So no lie- in for us. Staff were very nice, but we were not happy with the awful state of the hotel & the noise. My advice: stay away until renovations finished.

"Located in the Old town"
Yvette H, 12 Juin 2019

Location was paramount because we took day trips by train. The tram was located a few steps from the hotel which dropped us off at the train station. It would have received a rating of excellence but the hotel is under dramatic renovation. We were only notified shortly before arrival. We were offered a glass of wine in the restaurant for our troubles. The hotel renovation looked like Arnold Schwarzengger had been by. From a PR stand, the hotel guests should have received complimentary breakfast daily for their inconvenience. The hotel staff was impeccable. Once the hotel is completely renovated, it will be the ideal stay in Bern.

"Not what I expected"
LKS20190528, 28 Mai 2019

The hotel is undergoing extensive renovation and is a construction site. You have to go through the work areas to get to the room. The staff do their best despite the situation. Had been in place to warn about construction work when booking.

"Catastrophic"
Journey15573034957, 16 Mai 2019

I travel for work a lot and this is probably among the worst visits I've had to date. There was major construction going on which would not have necessarily been an issue if it had been reflected in any of the following: Price Advance warning Possibility to cancel Noise control management of construction to only affect parts of the hotel. sticking to advertised times instead of starting to drill at 7 am Even without any construction activity I would never come again as their handling of the issue shows a lack of care and respect for hotel guests.

"Noisy, dusty, unsafe conditions for guests"
KKelTexas, 26 Avril 2019

This will be a lovely hotel someday - as it is in a wonderful historic location in Bern. I was booked as part of a group for Collette travel at this hotel for 4 nights. I stepped off the elevator after receiving my key and thought I was in the wrong place. Noise and construction: There were jackhammers going with white powder and dust in the air, wires hanging from the ceiling and various workers with a variety of equipment. The noise was deafening. The level of construction was unbelievable. This was not light remodeling under way. Overheated: Once I made it to my room, it was well appointed but hot. The bathroom floor was heated but the front desk said there was no way to turn it off so it heated the room - and my only window was an interior window into yet another space under construction. I requested a cooler room and was moved to another room with an interior window - it was still too hot. They brought me 2 fans. Unsafe: Besides the white plaster powder in the air and hanging wires throughout the halls, workers smoking in the midst of construction, the floor had two sets of stairs for emergency exit. One near the elevator (I was on the far side away from the elevator, blocked by plywood wall) and one near my room that was locked. Asking at the front desk, I was told that they would unlock it in case of emergency. Our tour guide told us that the hotel had told their agency that guests were never booked on floors under construction. BUT then I found a few reviews regarding our travel agency and the same hotel and construction - even 6-9 months ago with similar complaints. I'm not sure who is at fault - but every floor was under construction for our group. In either case: The extent of the construction is not light-remodeling. The hotel should NOT accept guests in this hotel until their construction is completed. And, the travel agency: Collette, should NOT book guests in this hotel. My trip to Switzerland was a memorable one. Its a shame that this hotel was used for our stay.

"Conveniently located hotel"
Tour53731492576, 18 Avril 2019

I booked in to the hotel for a week while attending a conference. The hotel was under extensive renovation but the staff tried their best to make my stay comfortable. The hotels central location, free bus ticket for the duration of stay and friendly staff add to its positive rating.

"Close to everything good!"
MarcoSuGAD, 12 Avril 2019

A charming hotel close to everything that happens. One of the clerks had little impatience and a bit of harsh conch. But all was bypassed. In the end I think he reviewed his concepts and became as enjoyable as everyone else. The room we were given was a bit small but nothing that would disrupt the charm of being in such a beautiful location! Good breakfast! The location is great for those who like to get out and venture out into the surroundings. Parking requires a good walk. But this place is one of those that you arrive and it saves the car without needing of it for long. There are many things to do and when you stay you get a pass that allows you to use the means of transportation for free for the time of lodging. The bathroom was perfect and perfectly suited to people with special needs. Spectacular shower! Very cool!

"An example of good services"
rogeriolot, 11 Mars 2019

After a few days I returned to my house, I could not wait more to write about my stay at the Best Western Bern. When I booked the hotel and received a message informing about the hotel's works, I confess that I was apprehensive. And on arriving at the hotel, the check in Manager was the first person with whom I expressed my sorrow over a misfortune that had occurred to me when I forgot my backpack with documents, camera, Ipad, money and other personal effects on a connecting train that had just left, a few hours ago. Wenting up to my room, walking down the aisle in works and without the thermal comfort, I confess that I was unimpressed and I thought that the hotel management could have spared us from this, closing for renovations. But the next day, reading the various posters informing about the progress of the works and especially the Administration's intention to keep the hotel open and with that, to keep the employment of its employees, I began to thank them for what it meant. Because the manager was extremely kind and efficient when took an interest in my problem and tried to locate my luggage and most importantly, knowing that I would leave the hotel in two days, tried to make the train company aware with that. So, if they found my luggage, it would arrive in time on my hands so that I would return calmly to my house. And it happened! Back at home, I just have to dedicate a bit of time and register my sincere and extreme thanks to Andrea and to the entire team of the Best Western Bern Hotel for the dedication and example of good services. Certainly, if the hotel was not open, I would not have had the opportunity to receive such exceptional treatment. Thanks for everything. Good luck!

"Not worth its 4th star"
Cruiser47577333650, 04 Février 2019

Hotel is conveniently located in historic Bern. The building looks nice on the outside, but has been modernised to death with bad taste and cheap materials in the rooms. It really looks and feels like a 3*. Service was nice, but it is hard to get over the disappointment of the interior appearance of the place.

"The hotel is renovated"
andersh763, 29 Janvier 2019

Do NOT book this hotel. Normal prize, but it is under renovation. It should NOT be open. Every floor is renovated, but a few rooms are awailable. In the corridor there is dust, bare concrete walls and the workors wear helmets. No helmets were handed out to guest, but are needed. When they started to drill, the sound level in my room was so high so I had to leave it. A SHAME that it is open.

"OK at present and I suspect better once the renovations are completed"
Travelman4ts81, 12 Janvier 2019

This is a nice hotel in a historic building. Centrally located in the middle of old town Bern and within 5-10 minute walk from the railway station. A well appointed breakfast was also well received. The room itself a double was minimalist but had essentials and adequate room. My issue, as other reviews also discuss is the renovation work. This perhaps wouldn't have stopped me booking but would have been courteous to be informed of at the time of booking as such coming as a surprise when arriving and checking in. I stayed on the third floor which required walking though a section of that floor undergoing renovation before getting to my room. A complimentary drink was provided due to the inconvenience which I didn't expect but at least acknowledged that it was an issue. A further issue included the kettle which didn't cut out and as such overboiled which could have been dangerous.

"Do not go"
Christianne070, 17 Décembre 2018

I can only say one thing about this hotel: avoid it. There is a renovation going on which will take a lot of time. When making a group booking this was not said which is not very polite, it can also not be found on the website. Since we are here for work we get up early but drilling starts at 8, you walk through the renovation, only one elevator working and no stairs. The night I arrived the restaurant was also closed for a group booking and no room service available. A disaster and as somebody else already said:a welcome drink does not make up for this and besides that, if the restaurant and bar are closed you can not even get the drink. All in all a very impolite way of treating the guests.

"Avoid"
Johnandrews62, 07 Décembre 2018

This hotel is undergoing major renovations. In my opinion it's not fit for occupancy. Had I known there is no way I would have booked and paid in advance. The staff at the desk were helpful but quite frankly they have no right to charge you for staying in a construction zone.

"Hotel Bern - Avoid if Possible"
paul h, 01 Décembre 2018

Trip Advisor Review: Avoid Hotel Bern if Possible Dates of Stay: September 28, 29, 30 & October 1, 2018 The Best Western Hotel Bern is currently undergoing major renovations that affect all floors. These renovations make a stay at the hotel very unpleasant. When the hotel guest arrives they are confronted with a tall, tower crane and support structure straddling the front entrance to the hotel. Reference the photograph I have posted. When the hotel guest enters the lobby they see a sign that indicates the level of noise they will be exposed to each day of the week. Reference the photograph I have posted. When the hotel guest takes the elevator up to their floor they are greeted with wires hanging down from the ceiling and exposed pipes, etc. in the hallway. Reference the photograph I have posted. As the hotel guest walks to their room, besides the banging and riveting-like noise they will hear during the daytime, they will be exposed to dust from the renovation work. Finally, I believe there is a serious problem with the fire escape routes. A sign in the room indicates there are two fire escape routes; a stairway near the elevator and another stairway at the opposite end of the building. The stairway by the elevator has been blocked off by a wall erected presumably because of the renovation work. Reference the photograph I have posted. If this is correct and a fire blocks the other stairway then the hotel guests would be trapped. So, in conclusion, I'm sure the Hotel Bern is very nice under normal conditions but while it is being renovated it should be avoided, if possible. Otherwise, a guest should be ready to accept noise during the day, church bells ringing at night while trying to sleep, dusty and unsightly conditions, and possibly a fire escape safety issue. It seems to me that if the Hotel Bern truly had the satisfaction of their guests as a priority they would find another way to perform these renovations. Ideally, they would close the hotel to guests, complete the renovations and then have a grand reopening. At a minimum, they should close one floor at a time to guests and perform the renovations on that floor. This is unconfirmed but I was told the renovations would not be completed until some time in 2020. Finally, I stayed at the Hotel Bern because it was the hotel used by Collette Tours as part of their Switzerland, Austria and Bavaria land tour. Collette Tours has been advised of the unacceptable conditions of this hotel and, in fact, gave me a refund of $300 because of the terrible conditions of this hotel. If you are considering taking this tour in the future you should ask if this hotel will be used. If it will be, I would recommend that you select another tour. You will not be happy staying at this hotel while it is being renovated.

"Nice reception, but not so good the hotel."
Leonardo O, 22 Octobre 2018

When we maid the reservation, we didn't know that the all hotel is in reformation to put air conditioning. The hotel was under renovation and a mess with noise starting at 8 in the morning which did not allow us to continue sleeping. At reception we were not informed that breakfast was not included and upon check out they charged 20 euros per person for the coffee, which is not the best. The confusion was so great that there was room that charged the total of the coffee and others that did not charge. They should have reported on the breakfast charge, since we paid 80 euros for a very simple coffee and it came out quite expensive at the end.

"Under construction beware"
Ritchie B, 17 Octobre 2018

Fine if you will be leaving early in the morning but loud construction from 7 30 until 5 pm. Drilling jack hammers banging etc. Also dusty and cables hanging out, workers using the lifts. Beds were comfortable though

"Doing remodel currently"
Jamie H, 14 Octobre 2018

Very convenient to old town Bern. The hotel is being remodeled at the moment and it's quite noisy especially during the day. They are not doing remodel at night. Hotel housekeeping was excellent and did a good job cleaning room and construction dust. One of the two elevators was unoperational during most of my 4 day visit. No air conditioning but they do supply a floor fan in the hotel room. Staff was helpful and very polite. Also a coop grocery is located right next door.

"Big disappointment"
Jane R, 20 Septembre 2018

Thank goodness we only stayed for one night as we were put on the 5th floor which was a total construction site. There is no way any guests should be staying on this floor as it was not safe. There was no ceiling in the corridors and electrical wiring was hanging down from all over the place. Building materials were on the floor and we were literally walking through clouds of dust as we made our way in and out of our room. Can't believe authorities would allow people to inhabit the hotel (particularly 5th floor) in this state, compromising our health and safety.

"Hotel under construction"
Mikko66, 28 Août 2018

Room was very nice and clean, no air conditioning. Staff was very friendly, spoke english well. Stayed there 3 nights, earliest wake up was 5.45 am, when workers started their repairs in the hotel. Breakfast was ok,but the price 20 CHF, I think is too much. No parking place at the hotel, metro parking 150 m from the hotel, costs about 40 CHF/night. Church just across the street, bells ringing every 15 min, well...if you like bell sounds. Would have given 4 "star rating" but construction while I was there....

"Good location and staff"
Brisbanebilbo, 08 Août 2018

Older building renovated with smallish rooms. Good location in centre of town so no issues with getting around. Hotel gave us free tram passes to get around which was nice touch. Staff good and all spoke english. Rooms nothing special. Could open windows to get some air as no air con. Not usually a problem here but we were there in summer.Bar and restaurant which was good. Few maintenance issues. Safe key didnt work so we had no safe and bathroom very small.

"Ok"
Jared R, 27 Juillet 2018

The hotel looks nice and historic from the outside but is a little dated on the inside. There was clearly a remodel at some point but it doesn't all fit together. The staff is helpful and nice but the rooms are a hodgepodge of different generations. None of these really fit inside this building. The location is great though.

"Solid hotel with friendly employees"
Kelly P, 26 Juillet 2018

We booked 2 rooms on Best Western points. You do have to pay a per-person tax at checkout even with the room being free. It was about 14 francs for 2 adults, 2 kids for one night. We had rooms 401 and 402 which were connecting in their own little wing. They were generally quiet, although with the windows open you could hear the clock and the kitchen below, but once the windows shut, the noise was gone. Room 402 was smaller but had a nicer bathroom and a nice soft mattress. Room 401 was larger with a fold-out futon but the beds were rock-hard. I ended up folding my duvet in half and sleeping on top of it to make the bed manageable. Both rooms had a fridge with 4 included waters and Toblerone, nice touch. Being Gold members we got coupons for 4 free drinks at the bar. Within a block of a Starbucks and a couple of good Italian restaurants. To get there from train station, walk to entrance, take a left around the corner, then turn right on the first street and it's about 3-4 blocks down. Sadly we did not get to spend much time in Bern but it did seem like it would have been a great location if we did get to tour the town. I would stay here again, but I would probably ask for an extra duvet so that I could have both covers and something soft to lay on, ha! Oh, ladies, the hotel only had a soap dispenser in the bathroom that they call "toiletries" - the soap is supposed to be for body and hair - um, no, trust me, bring your own shampoo and conditioner. But even with minor hiccups I would definitely stay here again. It was a bit hot when going to bed with no A/C but it cooled off fine after an hour or so, so the lack of A/C was not an issue.

"Not pleased"
Devon C, 23 Juillet 2018

We stayed here for one night on our way to Kandersteg. Unfortunately, we were not pleased with this hotel at all. Aside from the excellent location, this hotel does not have much going for it. The room was spacious, but the bathroom was incredibly small. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, and there was no AC offered in the room. This was extremely disappointing, as it was over 32 degrees outside during our stay. The hotel does offer a small standing fan, so we positioned that as close to our bed as we could, but it did not help very much. We didn't sleep very well. The breakfast was not good - the eggs smelled like fish (?) and made my stomach turn, so we just ate some yogurt and went on our way. All of this was so disappointing as we were extremely pleased with the location upon check-in. Very sad that the rest of the hotel didn't live up to our expectations.

"Nice Hotel"
DianeO546, 25 Juin 2018

The hotel was nice and clean. The hotel location was near city center so it was close to city transportation . The beds were very hard and uncomfortable. The room was good sized with a view of the rooftops. Breakfast was not included. Parking was in a lot about 1/3 mile away from the hotel.

"Good location in city"
keneng, 06 Juin 2018

Centrally located in town and near train station. Close to most tourist attractions. There's a good restaurant located within hotel which you can hold closed door events for up to 30 pax. Supermarket is located few steps away. Hope the door key can be changed-old fashioned bell that's really heavy.

"Rockstar - A. Marbacher"
Ravi_Bhuptani, 28 Avril 2018

I got a bit late in reaching the parking zone where our Tour Bus was parked and the lady at Front office A. Marbacher helped me connect my tour operator even though I was not a guest at the hotel. She helped me inform the tour operator that I'll be there in a while thereby not missing my bus! Thanks a ton.

"Great location"
Pauline D, 26 Mars 2018

Two night stay for businesses, within walking distance of main train station, old town, shops, restaurants, and the river. Hotels provide vouchers for tram, buses, and funicular. Bring toiletries such as shampoo, but these are available on request.. the key is on a large metal fob. Restaurant on site, but several close by. Bilingual staff very helpful. Rooms are compact. Common room with iron and ironing board.

"Great centrally located hotel"
TravellinMama17, 12 Février 2018

If you need a clean and moderately priced place to stay in Bern this hotel is perfect. We had a adequately sized suite for our family that gave the three of us enough space to spread out. We had a lovely balcony that allowed us to take in the architecture of Bern. The complimentary breakfast was a nice touch so we did not have to worry about finding a place to eat. We really like the location as it was easy to head out to sight see, as everything is walking distance from the hotel. We also found it easy to get to the train station for travel. There is a department store right next door so if you need snacks or anything it is right next door.

"Excellent price value"
Peter F, 12 Janvier 2018

Centrally located, just in the old town, near Bundeshaus and shopping arcades and Cathedral. , excellent price value, really friendly staff (Reception), nice, clean and spacious rooms. Restaurant attached with good local cuisine.

"Nice hotel"
Dato13, 03 Janvier 2018

Nice hotel in the very centre of Bern. Rooms are small, but clean and tidy. Bathroom is very small and it makes certain discomfort. Staff is friendly. Breakfast is quite good for that small hotel with large selection of meals.

"Centrally Located Business Hotel"
keneng, 09 Décembre 2017

Located in the heart of old town, it makes sightseeing and getting to train station easy. However the rooms are old and in great need of a makeover. Restaurant offers good venue for private dinner function of up to 25 pax.

"Perfect location"
Sirpa2015, 07 Novembre 2017

Everything was good in this hotel. The location is just perfect. The room was nice and clean. The duvet was so wonderfully thick and soft, I slept so well. That been said - the church bells do disturb a little bit early in the morning (maybe they do also in the night but I wouldn't know, I was sleeping :-). The breakfast was very good. I was very happy with this hotel.

"Nice hotel in a perfect location in the centre of Bern"
wyssdaniel, 17 Octobre 2017

Nice hotel in a perfect location in the centre of Bern. An excellent place to stay for everyone who likes to stay in the centre of the city. The only thing I didn't liked: The bed are too hard, really! Rest is good.

"Exactly what I wanted"
Barb A, 28 Septembre 2017

The best thing is the location - in the center of Bern close to everything! But there are many other good things as well. I had a single room for four nights & it had everything I needed. Breakfast was good & varied although chaotic a couple of mornings. After a day (and evening) of touring and enjoying Bern I appreciated the English language TV channels...British mysteries - my fav! Friendly staff. I would definitely stay here again.

"Just an okay hotel"
trippintheworld, 21 Septembre 2017

We only stayed one night recently and the best thing going for the hotel is the location. We had to park our car about 5 mins away in a garage, it worked. The hotel is around the corner from the main areas, but the hotel was just okay. If you get a good price go for it, I think I overpaid for what we got, but it was a rush visit. Bedding is nice.

"Nice area, hotel was Ok, done the job"
Tracy N, 05 Septembre 2017

We arrived here as a stop of on our way to italy, there was 3 of us and we had a family room, the room was sizable but the Wifi was terrible, barely worked at all, room looked a little tired and shabby but was clean and comfortable, parking was pricey but thats to be expected in switzerland as nothing is cheap, a short walk from all the shops, it was quiet enough, but being on the 6th floor you are quite away from all the hustle and bustle below. Staff were helpful and friendly

"Location, Location, Location"
Stefan C, 26 Août 2017

This hotel is extremely well situated in the centre of the beautiful old town. I had an inside facing room which was quiet and immaculately clean. The bed was Swiss-style and comfortable. It was quiet. The staff were very efficient and helpful. I ended up leaving behind a jacket in a wardrobe, because it had been warm and sunny throughout my stay and I ended up not needing it! After a brief phonecall they sent it to my next location without charge and it arrived two days later. It is a classic mid-range city centre hotel.

"Totally convenient and comfortable"
Ruslanli, 17 Août 2017

Just few minutes walk from Child Eating Fountain, the Zytglogge and Bern Central Station, so we are very close to the shopping areas and reach public transportation with ease. The room we stayed are not big but clean, comfortable and quiet (we stay on the 3rd floor). Breakfast was great for me. Bacon and drinking yoghurt (bluberry flavour) were my favorite breakfast menus :D What I appreciate the most is the hotel staff, the ones I met were absolutely professional, I really mean that. They could provide you all the things and assistance you expect that a high standard hotel can. I wish they can see my comments and I would like to thank all of them again here. I really enjoyed my stay there!

"Good Hotel in the Center "
Habib S, 07 Août 2017

Lovely staff. Rooms are big . Worth the money . bathroom is small but so clean. We enjoy our stay there but Bern is so quite it is better to stay in Interlakn is much adventure and active until midnight

"Cosy affordable Hotel"
Guven P, 06 Août 2017

The hotel itself was in a great location in the old town close to everything. The room we stayed in was a little small but was comfortable and well priced. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Fine for solo or budget travellers.

"Big, cozy room"
krenno2, 31 Juillet 2017

Our room was huge, for American or European standards, it does not matter. The location was superb just around the corner from the Clock Tower. The beds were comfy, it was nice to have a table, chairs, and a coach to feel more at home than in a hotel. While other posts mention the decor as outdated and trying to be modern, that is not something I really care about in a hotel, and the hotel was plenty clean and well kept up. I would highly recommend staying here, as long as you are good with no air conditioning and leaving very nice windows open that get a greet breeze to keep the room cool.

"Good Location, but..."
Nadav K, 25 Juillet 2017

Switzerland is expensive, and Bern is not any different. My wife and I were looking for a nice, reasonably-priced hotel around the old town of Bern. We were excited to find the Best Western, a 4-star property right on the edge of the old town (a one minute walk from the Bern Clock Towers and many other attractions. The pros: great location, the staff, relatively reasonable price, cozy. The cons: this is not a 4-star property. The room was small even by European standards, the bathroom was small, there was no A/C (there was a window and a standing fan), and the key was a physical key with a weight (??), so we gave it to reception every time we left the room. In truth, this hotel feels like a budget hotel. Did the Best Western do the trick? Yes, it was a safe and relatively comfortable accommodations. Check in and check out were quick and efficient. We parked in an underground garage located less than 500 feet down the street. This is not a bad option for Bern, which can get very expensive. However, do not expect a 4-star level property.

"Not the best but not bad"
citybreakaddict274, 20 Juillet 2017

We stayed for one night during our visit to Switzerland. The hotel is in a great location in the old town, a short walk from all the main sights and bars/restaurants. From the outside the hotel looks very impressive. Once you go in things go slightly downhill. The hotel facilities and decor is pretty basic. Check in was efficient and luckily our room was ready despite an early arrival. Our room was on the fourth floor and was OK. No view, a little fan you could plug in but everything else looked a little sad. Best western have tried to make it super modern but on a shoestring budget. The bathroom was clean but not nicely decorated, and the shower was tiny. We ate in the restaurant on the night and although much more grand in looks the food lacked quality. The service in the restaurant was also slow and sulky however the check in staff, cleaners and others were all friendly and pleasant. A perfectly functional and decent hotel for a short stay. But you wont be "wowed" or asking them where they bought any of their furniture. I imagine its decent for business trips but I wouldn't recommend it for a romantic trip with your loved one!

"Fine hotel in excellent location"
LarsDane, 16 Juillet 2017

Staying here when visiting a supplier in Bern. Arrived early evening at the hotel after my luggage failed to show up in Basel Airport, necessitating a quick shopping spree in Basel for the bare necessities for the next-day visit. It is a relatively short walk (< 10 mins.) from the railroad station and very conveniently located close to the Altstadt (historic city center). The check-in procedure was fast, and the concierges were both very helpful and quite fluent in English. I even got a free ticket for the public transport in bern, although i never got to use it - I had had plenty of transport that day. I had booked a single room, which were on the uppermost floor, complete with slanted ceiling. The room was quite small, but had everything I needed, especially a nice, hot shower in the small, but immaculately clean and well-functioning bathroom. A brand new shirt (courtesy the travel insurance) needed an ironing, and i was told that there was both iron and board freely available in the floor below. The sleep quality is excellent, and I slept like a log all night. Breakfast is good, varied, and though (as usual in these parts) expensive, absolutely worth the money. Recommendable.

"Great Location"
Lindsey T, 13 Juillet 2017

We stayed at the Best Western Hotel Bern on the first night of our honeymoon. They had prosecco waiting for us in our room upon arrival! The room was very clean with 3 large windows. The hotel was a short, direct walk from the Bern train station and is located right in the city center- within walking distance to all attractions, restaurants and Aare River. Front desk staff was very friendly. The only down side was that cigarette smoke would flow into our room from the balconies of other guests. We would stay here again if we return to Bern.

"Reasonable Average Hotel"
Jorganmeister, 13 Juillet 2017

Good location about ten minutes walk from the railway station in the heart of the city. Friendly greeting, but a small room (even though I had "been upgraded to a larger room") that was quite old and worn, albeit with a fairly modern design. It was adequate but not luxurious by any stretch. Service in the bar was friendly but I didn't eat in the restaurant. The room was reasonably quiet, although it was possible to hear the local clocks chiming. They were out of synch so at 23:00 I got 22 chimes in succession! Overall a perfectly acceptable stay.

"I would be very happy to stay here again."
Frances44, 11 Juillet 2017

This is the fourth and final hotel that I stayed in on my Grand Tour of Switzerland with Saga and we stayed for only one night. My room was very nice and modern and met all of my requirements. As a tour group we had a separate dinner menu from guests who were not part of a group. All guests had the same breakfast. There was a fridge with complimentary water which was very welcome and a mini Toblerone. I asked for an extra pillow and this came very quickly. There are tea and coffee making facilities but the flex on the kettle is too short. The television set is very good but it is too close to the ceiling. The only seats are a large chair in the corner underneath the TV and a stool. The only comfortable place to watch is from the bed. Otherwise the room was very good, clean and there was plenty of hot water. We were served our welcome drink just before dinner. There was a selection of drinks to choose from including red and white wine. Dinner was the best meal I had during the whole tour. I had a delicious cold soup followed by an equally tasty chicken dish which was so plentiful that I could not eat it all. I looked in envy at the dessert that other members of our group ate but I was too full to eat it myself. I prefer continental to cooked breakfasts and was very happy with the one I had at this hotel. This is the first time that I have stayed in a Best Western Hotel but hopefully not the last.

"Friendly Front Desk"
jawndi, 09 Juillet 2017

The front desk people were extremely helpful with all if our questions in English. This was the first stop of our trip, so we had many questions. They also held onto our bags for many hours until our room was ready. The breakfast was was all you can eat, and it was fantastic. The location was great. Walking distance the amazing cathedral, the stream, and the bear park.

"Hotel Bern, Bern Switzerland"
urspeterz, 05 Juillet 2017

Great, central downtown location, everything is in walking distance. Don't miss the farmer's market on Tuesday or Saturday Clean, functional rooms. Surprisingly quiet at night Excellent breakfast. Overall, the hotel Bern is a great value.

"It's okay"
Cbs3383, 02 Juillet 2017

The location of this hotel is fantastic but the hotel rooms themselves leave a lot to be desired. They are very old and standard style rooms, the bathrooms aren't very clean and the carpet is filthy. When house keeping made up the rooms, we were at breakfast, I had outfits laid out on the bed for the kids and they threw them all in a pile on a chair. The restaurant was great, which was a plus. Overall, I would find another hotel unless you are just looking for a place to sleep and don't have kids with you.

"Centrally located to visit the lovely town of Bern!"
vivi63, 27 Juin 2017

Great location, great front desk staff. Our room was huge which is unusual in Europe so nice to be able to get around without running in to each other. Front desk staff was very helpful in giving us some tips of where to go.

"Location is really great"
Fereidun S, 26 Juin 2017

We had very good experience with staff. The hotel was basically clean and restricted. The only drawback was serving breakfast. It was supposed to be between 6 to 10 AM. Going in at 9 AM meant to tolerate the noisy staff that would work to make the area ready for lunch or some other event. This was pretty hard to go through

"Very disappointing."
HelenFrench_12, 26 Juin 2017

Although a historic building, the rooms have an outdated, cramped, cheap modern Ikea feel. Convenient location to explore the city on foot, but that's the only thing in its favour. We were given a disabled room, which we did not request. The bathroom was as inconvenient to able bodied travellers and a normal one would be for a disabled traveller. Eco-lighting on the landing, so bring a torch. The choices on this review to rate the price are "Budget" "Mid-Range" and "Luxury". No option for Budget hotel at a Luxury price.

"Very convenient location to explore Bern's historic centre from."
Sue and Alex P, 22 Juin 2017

This hotel is under ten minutes walk from the main Bahnhoff and easy to find (as long as you do your pre-trip research on which street to follow from the station) It is located just yards away from the many wonderful buildings that make up the Historic part of the town which are all easily walkable, and probably best savoured and appreciated that way. Should you want to venture further out of town then using this hotel includes a Bern Pass for your stay. In terms of eateries, if you don't want to use the hotel's main restaurant, then you are only minutes walk away from the Barenplatz area where there are so many choices that most tastes should be catered for. Breakfast buffet in the hotel provided plenty of options and the staff on duty were very friendly. Reception staff were always on duty and more than happy to help with any directions guidance or other queries. Room was nice and spacious, very clean and quiet which again was a big plus in terms of recommending this as an option base to readers of this review,

"Very nice hotel in a very central location"
Check_Please123, 29 Mai 2017

Right in the heart of the old town, this European style hotel was very charming. It was clean, bright, and had a hotel staff that was very accommodating. The breakfast included was beautifully displayed and was a great start to every morning. I would certainly recommend this hotel if you you're going through Bern

"Good location nothing else "
Serhat U, 18 Mai 2017

One of the best locations in Bern where everything is in walking distance. Unfortunately everything else about this hotel fails. Very simple rooms, small beds. No hot food in breakfast other than eggs. This could have been 2 star anywhere else in Europe.

"Fab location"
the_lofty_attic, 02 Mai 2017

Modern Swiss rooms, super comfy bed, and a funky chair I wish I could have taken home! Breakfast was great, but best of all was the location being convenient for walking to all central Bern places and sights. Was a pleasure to stay here.

"Good location for visiting Bern"
bustrav_18, 29 Avril 2017

Location is close to train station and Old City. Room is good size. Bed is not the most comfortable we have experienced during our trip. Front desk service is mixed, some very good. Others very unfriendly.

"A very underwhelming hotel"
pro-travelguy, 13 Avril 2017

The positive about this hotel is the location. The rooms are small, sparse, dark. Hotel's floor plan is like a figure eight, many seemed to face each other in interior open space. Breakfast was basic, scrambled eggs crusty from sitting too long.

"Clean affordable hotel in great location"
421Traveler_123, 11 Avril 2017

We stayed at this hotel for one night during a long weekend in Bern. The room was small, but clean, and the service excellent. The hotel is located on a central area of town. I would certainly recommend it.

"Better Western"
Mercedes D, 09 Avril 2017

The hotel is located 5 minutes walk from the railway station and so in the heart of the city.our room was clean, light and big enough. The staff at the reception friendly. Wifi was fine. What could be improved? Definitely Breakfast. There is just a person to look after it and it was a mess. Most tables empty but with used cups and saucers and food. When these things were eventually collected, not a sign to clean the table for the new customers, you are supposed to have breakfast surrounded by other people's breadcrumbs!!!appalling!

"Nice Hotel, perfect location."
EmmGR, 30 Mars 2017

My wife and I had an excelent time in this Hotel, the building is nice, the personal was very kind and pacient, the rooms are small but clean and with modern style, very comfortable bed, bathroom was ok. The restaurant is just excelent, order some wine with a good Schnitzel, waiter was very friendly and efficient, price is a bit high but is worth. Just 5min walking and we found a Christmas market at the Waisenhausplatz with a very nice atmosphere (there is a subway stop there & a Starbucks) from there you can walk to all famous places Things to consider are: there is no parking lot and you need to park at an underground parking (good & safe) 5 min walking from the hotel, even with luggage was easy. You get parking discount with the stamp from the hotel. There are not bell boys so you handle your luggage by your self, the elevator helps but corridors are narrow on the upper floors. Breakfast is standard. For sure I will stay here next time I visit the beautiful Bern!

"Great experience! "
Annie C, 22 Mars 2017

The location was great and the rooms were clean. The first room we stayed at was facing the main street so it was really loud in the morning at at 530am. We went downstairs to let the front desk know and they moved us right away to a room facing the balcony. After that it was really quiet! The rooms aren't too big, then again its Europe, it's never big! It was two single beds in the room, which was fine. I think for the price and location it was a good choice! Will come back and stay again!

"Perfect location for all the main attractions and train station"
Matthew M, 22 Mars 2017

Customer service, the breakfast and the room were all very good. As others have noted it can be quite loud on the city side, so if you get a chance, try and book the other side. I was woken up two nights in a row around 2-3 in the morning by drunken arguments Can't really fault the hotel for any of that, though, so would fully recommend a visit. Everything you want to get to is within 10 minutes walking distance - though I didn't get a chance to see Bear Park since it was a little further out of the way.

"Very nice hotel in the center of Bern"
avipiti, 25 Novembre 2016

The hotel is located in the center of Bern, and is within a few minutes walk from many restaurants. The room was of nice size, very clean, and service was excellent. The train station is around a 7 min walk from the hotel.

"great place in the centre of Bern"
trunge, 23 Novembre 2016

Very nice actually. Right in the centre of Bern; super friendly welcome by reception staff and spacious, clean room. Good breakfast too. Location is great with many restaurants and bars right "next door". Anything to "moan" about? The hotel doesn't have its own car park so; you need to drive 2 minutes and then walk back 5. Rooms could do with a few more sockets to charge laptop and phone(s). That's about it on the negatives and that's not a lot.

"Great front desk staff, modern, updated hotel in great location"
pbirdie3, 17 Novembre 2016

Location is excellent, right in the center of Old Town. 2 stops on the tram from the train station, or you could walk in 6-8 minutes. Tram stop less than 1 block away. Great for walking the city and seeing all the landmarks and sights. Front desk staff was excellent. Room was updated, pretty spacious, clean with great bed. We had a room on the back side which was very quiet. Bern is expensive and this was an acceptable price. Would definitely stay here again.

"Great Location and Clean Rooms"
Jetlag1332, 09 Novembre 2016

Located right next to the old town this was a great hotel to use as a base when exploring Bern on foot. It's a few blocks from the train station (maybe 10-15mins depending on walking speed) but you can walk along main roads and see some markets and shops, making it a pleasant commute. Overall friendly staff with clean rooms and a great location

"Charming!"
Jadacyyz, 05 Novembre 2016

Had a great stay for 3 nights while in town on business. I believe the hotel is due for a renovation. Style aside, you would never know anything is worn out. It is so clean and well kept. Staff are absolutely charming and friendly. Service efficient, restaurant is very good. Location is excellent in the heart of town and a short walk to everything you need, including the main train station. Tip: pay a little more and get a double room for some extra space.

"Great hotel!"
WausPaus, 04 Novembre 2016

I was in the hotel for 6 nights and it's a very nice hotel. The staff are extremely polite, friendly, very professional and always try to help. The room was small but very functional. It was very clean. The restaurant was very good and the food was delicious. The restaurant staff made it a very joyful experience. When I return to Bern, I'll definitely try to stay there again.

"Love it :)"
samira_hassan, 01 Novembre 2016

I like the locations, it was in the middle of the old town and where you can commute easily to other locations. I used to walk around a lot in the evenings and I enjoyed sitting out watching the passers. The Bern Train locates just behind, the shopping malls or avenue was just walking distance. I simple fall in love with the hotel and the small city, too much history and stories around ;)

"Great room for little $$"
czechago, 22 Octobre 2016

Located just outside the wall of Old Bern, this hotel is central to the entire town. Great service from a friendly staff. Modern furnishings add space to a modest sized room. We wished the bed was softer, but with all the walking we did, we still slept well.

"best place to stay"
cristina c, 19 Octobre 2016

In the Middle of the old Town, it is easy to walk a round, and see the great city, full of charming places. The room was grest, people on the hotel's reception were very kind and helpfull, i really enjoy my stay.

"Bern iti"
vishalBDS, 12 Octobre 2016

Pleasant stay. No issues.lovely room, most importantly Sleptwell. location is great, walking distance to all attractions and bern train station. Plenty of options to eat and drink. Trams stops minutes away.

"A Very Nice Hotel in a Great Location"
Mike_B52033, 05 Octobre 2016

We enjoyed our one night stay at the Hotel Bern. Our room, though not large, was comfortable and clean. The decor was modern and fit with the style of the hotel. The welcome at reception was excellent and we found the staff helpful with tourist sites, parking etc. We also enjoyed a very nice dinner in the hotel restaurant. This hotel is in an excellent location to visit the sites of old town Bern.

"Good location but expensive parking"
Paul M, 29 Septembre 2016

Hotel is in a very good location with direct access to the cosmopolitan shopping area of downtown Bern. Negative aspect is that there is no parking available and you have to park in a local public car park which hits you for swfrcs40 for an overnight stay. That quite a bit just to park your car at this hotel. Wireless access is free and works ok during the day but gets very slow when in the evening. Rooms were ok, comfortable but not cheap either...£200 for a queen bed room makes it rather expensive, but that is the norm in Switzerland... Good if you want a good hotel in central bern but don't drive there...

"Bright and cheery"
diggadoo, 23 Septembre 2016

Right in the middle of town, walking distance from the station and close to the old city, and the river. We had a very bright and cheery room, quite spacious and with a balcony. In the 1914 Volkshaus - largely gutted apart from the facade. Very helpful staff, and a free public transport ticket as a bonus.

" Inhouse fair"
Dsteiner73, 18 Septembre 2016

Local and got accessible location in the city center of Bern. Nice location and very tasty finger food, kind and nice service personal. So recommendable place in Bern to run inhouse fairs, briefings and similar events.

"OK hotel, nothing special, but great location"
a193991, 07 Septembre 2016

This hotel is good for a weekend. It is right in the middle of the Old Town of Bern, very centrally located. It is marked as a 4-star hotel. I don't like the European system of distributing stars, as this hotel according to me is a 3 star hotel. Room was just ok, rather small, the bathroom with shower very small. it has a coffee maker, mini bar (with free water bottles), Samsung TV, work desk. I booked through booking.com and the confirmation served as a ticket for free public transport on day of arrival, including from the airport.

"Swiss efficiency prevails"
Doj D, 01 Septembre 2016

Hotelbern is in a great spot, close enough to the railway station to walk, a short stroll from the lovely old town, Trams and buses in the immediate vicinity. It is a tidy clean hotel with decent room and a much improved restaurant over the past couple of years. There isn't aircon in the rooms, though to be truthful this is not often a necessity given the climate.

"Not a four star hotel"
ljavier34, 15 Août 2016

While the location of the hotel is great (right next to the clock tower), our rooms was dated, small and did not have AC. I think we were probably given one of the smallest room, but it felt like we were staying at a hostel. With that said, the room was very clean as was the bathroom. The lobby makes you think you're staying at a better hotel, but as soon as you go up to the rooms you realize that is not the case. At best, it is a three star hotel. Very friendly staff

"Great choice"
Hilary c, 12 Août 2016

I think this was the first time we have ever stayed in a chain hotel, usually preferring small boutique places, but this was an unexpected surprise The position is fantastic. Close to everything to see in Bern. The reception welcome was warm and efficient, and our room spacious and bright. Comfortable beds, conplimentary water and chocolate! The decor is eclectic, but not overpowering. Bern is expensive, and I struggled to find a hotel that was in a good position, good ambience and not so expensive it made your eyes water. This hotel fit the bill.

"Great hotel, great location"
austinmook, 10 Août 2016

The hotel is really great. The location can't be beaten: it's a block away from the main plaza with all the restaurants, and a block the other way to the top of Kramgasse, the main street in the old town. It's perfect. We had one of the rooms that faced Marktgasse, which means that we had a "bay window" type room with extra space. In fact, the occupants of the room we were assigned to had not checked out, so they upgraded us for free. Quite a nice treat. The restaurant in the hotel is also very tasty, though we only had lunch there. The bathroom was good, too--with a bathtub shower. The shower head has an LED readout of the water temperature and volume of water and "grades" you on your water usage. It's a fun game to play to see how quickly and efficiently you can get sufficiently clean. Great place. Highly recommended.

"Good location, wonderful staff, poor value"
sp0rk, 20 Juillet 2016

The good: The staff was attentive, polite, accommodating, and everyone I encountered spoke near perfect English. First rate staff. Very clean. You could not ask for a better location if you're a tourist in Bern. The Bad: No AC, for what they charge to not have air conditioning was a bit shocking to me. 40 franks to park overnight 2 blocks away. I felt like the rooms were designed for leprechauns, really really small. Trying to wash my hair in the shower I kept banging my elbows on the walls/shower door. I kept knocking stuff over and banging into things. For the price, stupid small! Instant coffee for the in room coffee maker? Really? The one bath towel was waffer thin and scratchy. Oh, did I mention there is NO A.C.?

":)"
Norwegian77, 12 Juillet 2016

Very good location! Ok price. The staff were really polite and friendly. The food was fine, good cheese (the staff was serviceminded). The room was ok (312) I could here sounds from the neighbouring rooms though, but it did not drive me nuts.

"Good location but could do with improvements"
SealGirl, 08 Juillet 2016

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in June. Our room was good and clean but the bathroom was quite small and a bit dated. There was no air conditioning unit in the room but we were provided with a fan. Unfortunately this appeared to have been a bit worn and if you had it on a higher setting it made an awful noise so didn't cool the room down very much ( we didn't bother informing reception regarding this as we were only there two nights and did not cause that much of an issue ). Staff were friendly and helpful and we were provided with a pass for free to use on the local transport which did come in handy. When checking in we weren't actually told of check out time and had to check with reception the day before. There is a safe in the room but this is locked by a key which I'm not keen on as I am always concerned about losing something like this while out and about so prefer the coded safes. Overall the hotel was nice and in a good location but could be improved.

"Decent Stay - but not amazing"
ladymacb29, 01 Juillet 2016

The service was great. The room, however, was tiny. Yes, I know it's Europe, but if I had another person in the room with me it would have been extremely cramped. The shower was small, as well. Instead of bottle amenities, they have a fixture in the shower with shampoo and conditioner that you can get out yourself. The style of the rooms is very modern.

"Great location in the old city"
Heather M, 01 Juillet 2016

The hotel is a budget friendly hotel in the old city. It is a short walk from the Bern train station. The hotel room and bathroom are very clean. If you are looking for a fancy room, fancy bath products, etc, this is not your hotel. If you are looking for a clean room in the old city that is somewhat budget friendly, this hotel is for you. Pros: The staff is very nice and very helpful. The location is great! The breakfast is very good! Cons: Bed was not comfortable. Room did not have air conditioning and it was warm. (Our room did have a fan for circulating the air) and there were no screens on the windows to let in cool air at night and keep bugs out. Room was very small. Room and bathroom more like a motel than a hotel in quality.

"Close to Tourist Sites of Bern"
km18766, 21 Juin 2016

Great stay. I was there for one night. It is clean and comfortable. Close proximity to all the major sites. We ate at a great restaurant named Luce down the street. Only complaint I have is the unsecured luggage storage prior to check in. They store it in a room adjacent to the main desk, that is unlocked and guests are allowed to enter and leave with luggage as they please.

"Great location in the Old Town"
loopy101, 24 Mai 2016

This hotel is in an attractive building well situated in the Old town, but only 10-15 minutes easy walk from the main station. Some of the walk to it is under cover as a lot of the streets in the old town have covered promenades. I wouldn't bother getting a taxi or tram from the station unless you have a particularly large suitcase. The reception is helpful, and embarrassingly good at English. You can get a free bus/tram pass for your stay on arrival which is well worth having. Our room 529 on the 5th floor overlooked a large church. Some of the rooms on the other side of the corridor overlooked the internal courtyards. Although the hotel was built in Art deco style, the rooms are quite modern, possibly a bit nineties in decor with colourful wardrobes and carpets and weird burgundy units in the bathroom, however, everything is very clean and functional with safe, kettle, hairdryer, and fridge. The bathroom and bedroom could be slightly bigger and there could be a mirror other than the full length mirror in the wardrobe as I had to dry my hair in the bathroom, but these are minor niggles. The heating works well or you can open the window for fresh air. When we were there in late May, it was pretty quiet, apart from Saturday night, but it doesn't bother you once the window is closed, as the double glazing does what it should. We didn't book breakfast or have dinner in the hotel, so can't comment on the food, but it looked pretty formal and quiet in the evening in the hotel restaurant, so we decided to eat out and there are plenty of choices nearby. The shopping is very good in Bern, if expensive, but again you are very close by to most shops and the ubiquitous covered walkways are all around the hotel. It's very easy to walk from hotel in the middle of the old town to either side to overlook the beautiful Aare river, or to walk to the old clock, the many statues and the lovely Kunstmuseum - Art Gallery is only a 15-20 min stroll. Regarding weather in late May, we experienced 25 degrees and sunshine one day and nine degrees and rain the next so I'd take layers with you at this time of the year. Recommend this hotel for a break in the beautiful compact city of Bern.

"Bern"
MmeSquirrel, 19 Mai 2016

Funky hotel room but great size, super view of the old roof tops, quiet, and close to everything. Breakfast was extra, but with a good variety to choose from. Wonderful sound of the church bells ringing and the pigeons cooing. Shopping and plenty of restaurants nearby.

"Central location! "
MichelleByrne79, 15 Mai 2016

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in a recent trip to Bern. It's located in the centre and a short walk to everything! We were offered a free bus and train ticket from the hotel but never used it as we walked everywhere - it's all so close! Highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning on staying in Bern for a weekend get away.

"Good location"
TRIPSTER077, 11 Mai 2016

I stayed at the Hotel Bern for 2 nights. The hotel itself is very nice. The breakfast area was very well attended with a variety of foods to eat. The hotel staff was excellent! My only complaint would be the room. You accept the fact most hotel rooms are small in Europe, but we had a very small room and it was decorated in a kaleidoscope of bright colors. It was not easy on the eyes. The corner chair was very modern and the desk chair was a slanted backless seat you had to be very careful not to fall off. Both highly uncomfortable. I would highly advise not to have a room facing the front of the hotel. Due to the excessive heat in the room, I had the windows open and you could hear the loud voices of people walking past the hotel all night long. Unfortunately, I was there on a Friday and Saturday night so it was lively. The location is excellent. Within easy walking distance to old town, the train station and shopping. I would definitely stay here again but hopefully not in the same room.

"Needs a Total Facelift"
denisd37, 10 Mai 2016

A second rate budget hotel at 3 star prices with dowdy rooms and halls. Thee mattresses were flat and hard. There was one tiny light bedside with extension cords everywhere. They actually had large hotel "notices" nailed on the walls as if they were pieces of art. Te carpets needed cleaning and the halls were gloomy. Obviously 20 years ago they thought the decor was modern but it's worn out Ikea.

"A modern interior behind a traditional exterior"
Dromedaryman, 08 Mai 2016

This Best Western Hotel in Bern is a short and pleasant walk from the train station. Perfectly located in the old quarter, a modern hotel hides behind an authentic original grey stone façade. Restaurants, shops and public transport (trams and trains) are all within easy walking distance, as is the scenic Aare river. The furniture in my room had interesting contemporary designs and the walls were colourfully painted. But my room was small, almost cramped, and had no external windows, only a view into other rooms across a small inner courtyard. A decent European breakfast is offered in a busy dining-room. The front-desk staff are multilingual and always ready to offer maps and directions if asked. Everything is functional, clean and efficient – all very Swiss, in fact. This hotel is good enough for a short business trip, but don't come here on honeymoon.

"Good place for a short stay in Bern"
Leon S, 01 Mai 2016

I opted for this hotel to stay in Bern due to its great location. The overall experience was good. The hotel staff were friendly and the hotel was clean. The hotel does not have the key card system to unlock the doors so instead uses a key with a HUGE key ring which means you have to leave it at reception every time you leave the hotel. This is not really a problem except that when i returned there was a queue at reception and i had to wait 10 minutes to get my key. Regarding the breakfast, I had to wait 20 minutes for the scrambled eggs to be brought out to the tray by which time I had finished my breakfast. Similarly the last pieces of bacon had been sitting in the tray full of oil. I did not see that replenished. In the absence of bacon and eggs I opted for the strawberries which happened to be rotting. The salmon was good as was the selection of yoghurt. Overall the breakfast quality and service as well as waiting for my key let the hotel down. I would stay here again due to its location but unless the breakfast was improved I would opt for a breakfast at one of the coffee shops in Bern .

"Top, top, top"
Barba001, 23 Avril 2016

What an excellent place to stay and enjoy your city trip or business trip. We stayed for 3 nights. Perfect reception, with very kind and professional employees. Bed's ok, room super clean and very comfortable. And the location; in the middle of the centre of Bern and the Bahnhof.

"Good for very short visit and stay"
alireza k, 21 Avril 2016

Like every other Besr Western hotels. Near to city center. My trip was only one day stay in Bern. It was my first time in Bern. So for me being in the city center and middle range price was important. I didn't like the design and public space of the hotel. It is very small.

"Good location and value for money"
Tomas_sthlm, 18 Mars 2016

Stayed 5 days for business. Hotel is on a good location, on a walking distance from main train station and several tram/bus stops. Rooms are rather small (though within european standards), but with quite modern and tastefull design, aslo well maintained and clean. Mine was overlooking inner yard and it was very quiet, appreciated it a lot after busy day. TV was positioned bit wierd - too high, but it wasn't an issue. Good choice of english language channels, both news and entertainment. Breakfast was just average, it could be improved. Staff was very helpfull and friendly.

"Good location. Decent rooms"
alfredteng, 29 Février 2016

The hotel is in a central location and very near to the old town and train station. Very convenient. The rooms are decent and clean, although not big. very basic amenities so don't get your hopes too high. For first time visitors to bern, this is a good choice since you can stroll around the hotel.

"It's OK but will try others next to benchmark"
Steve B, 20 Février 2016

Have stayed here twice for business, but have found the room standard and attention to detail wanting. Little things like make sure my shower soap is replenished. However, it is very handily located in the old town and has a great restaurant/bar in the Volkshaus. Great for socializing with colleagues.

"Comfortable well located hotel. Good balance of room size, quality and value"
PVTraveler01, 13 Février 2016

Hotel Bern is a centrally located hotel with comfortably sized rooms (European standards). Rooms are clean and comfortable and connecting rooms are available! Good sized and well appointed bathrooms. Quality breakfast .featuring hot (eggs, sausages, bacon,...). and cold options. Central location near the covered walkway of shopping, excellent selection of restaurants nearby (1-2 blocks) ranging.from quality pizzerias to fine dining..Would definitely stay here again

"Ok just ok "
SoccerTease, 19 Janvier 2016

Nice shower no bathtub in my room. Nice central location but not a luxury hotel by any means. Clean though and I guess good value for the cost. I didn't care for the pillows but luckily brought my own.

"Good value for Switzerland"
COMom45, 24 Décembre 2015

Ok. Let's get this straight first-everything in Switzerland is expensive in relation to any Midwest city in the United States. We expected that everything would be expensive and we were right. The hotel prices are high and you get what you pay for! We found the Hotelbern on trip advisor and booked here because of the decent reviews and because when I emailed them about a 2 room rate, they were extremely responsive. We ended up with 2 rooms-both good sized twin beds-with a connecting door. The rooms are clean and no nonsense. A desk, nice closet space, comfy chair and plenty of good lighting. Cons of this hotel and rooms: towels were ratty, soap dispenser in showers is for hair and body and don't work well, pillows are flat as pancakes, rooms are kept very hot so you have to open the window. Pros: location is only 5 minute walk from train station, people are very nice, beds are comfy, rooms are quiet, good value for Switzerland. Yoshua gave us especially good service. He hooked us up with a late check out because my son was feeling sick. He also made a recommendation when my hair brush broke. Also, all the wonderful servers at the bar in the morning and evenings were so sweet. These people are impressive. Many were from other countries and they spoke multiple languages including English. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would go back.

"A sure value"
NG F, 28 Novembre 2015

Reliable value in a very central location in Bern. Rooms are small but functional. The roomdesign is colorful, which is not everyone's taste. Bed is comfy and fluffy pillows and blankets are provided. Tiny bathroom, rather minimalist. No way to regulate the room temperature which might be an issue. WIFI free of charge and great speed. Rather on the expensive side but then again everything here is.

"Funky and Fun"
Anita H, 26 Novembre 2015

Hotel has a modern style. Was clean and quiet. Location was close to tram lines, shopping, clock tower and Coop. Was a short walk to the train station but not too far. Hotel staff were very knowledge and helpful. Enjoyed our stay.

"Nothing fancy for high price"
Kostianxk, 25 Novembre 2015

I am a bit disappointed with Best Western Hotel Bern. The rooms are very average, pretty small and also the hotel would need renovation. The bed was not comfortable at all. For that price i would expect more. The highlight is the location of the hotel which is just one step out of the city centre, and professional and very helpful staff.

"Very nice standard"
Steve B, 03 Novembre 2015

My first time staying in Bern and this was right in heart of old town. Hotel room was smallish but fine for one. I found the room temperature too warm for me so left my window open all the time. Very clean and tidy rooms. The breakfast choice from the buffet was excellent. Very nice croissants!

"Very Impressed"
mcingh, 01 Novembre 2015

Fantastic welcome by staff who allowed us to check in early. Hotel is in older part of town and is quiet. Our family room was modern, HUGE, very clean - what a first impression! although it faced back of the hotel we had doors to open and the view overlooked old quaint buildings . Hotel is five minutes from train station, and as is with Bern shopping everywhere(according to net reviews of Bern there is 6kms of shopping and this is true!!) Breakfast is great and also should you desire afternoon apertives free crudites and tje service is friendly and attentive. Highly, highly recommend this Hotel and also the city of Bern is so worthy of a visit...

"Comfortable hotel a short walk from Bern railway station"
L H, 25 Octobre 2015

I only booked an Economy room, but it was spacious and well-equipped (room 332, I think). Bern isn't a cheap city and there isn't as much hotel accommodation as you might expect, so I was pleased with this. Some of the attention to detail was lovely, and made my life easier: a large umbrella in the room, and power points which take a range of different international plugs so I didn't need an adaptor. There was an unusually wide range of TV channels, German, French and UK (including all BBC, ITV and most of the 4 channels). There was a good selection at breakfast, with fresh scrambled eggs and a hot local breakfast dish with onions and ham (I forget the name). There's a machine for boiling your own eggs. The hotel is a short walk (about 5 minutes) from the station, but it's on a relatively quiet street so I got a peaceful night's sleep. People I spoke to next day who'd stayed in other hotels found Bern to be a noisy city (trams, late-night revellers), but I didn't have that problem at all when I stayed in this hotel.

"Ok for Business"
Janis857, 21 Octobre 2015

Room was ok but overpriced. Guests on the street side hear the different local clocks bong regularly all night. Guests on the inner side have an odd window into a closed air shaft which does allow for fresh air. Location is excellent, within walking distance from the train station and easy walk to all the sites, and the big Bern conference center on the other side of the river. Reception staff were helpful as were the staff handling the conference rooms in the hotel. Price includes free pass for local buses. Staff in restaurant were less helpful. Coffee was not great - but there is a nice COOP store next door with everything from groceries to notebooks, and several coffee places nearby. The Luce Italian restaurant in the next block had consistently good food at relatively reasonable prices.

"Your choise - silence or view"
Anni B, 03 Octobre 2015

Friendly, functional, clean, everything works as they just can in Switzerland. The hotel location is excellent, right "there", five minutes' walk from the railway station. If you want to sleep, take one of the smaller rooms which is facing an inner small court, as outside, there is a bar open all night and the young are making a lot of noise and having loud music outside. Breakfast is good. The hotel seems expensive to foreigners, but I guess everything seems so in Switzerland.

"Excellent 1 nights stay"
the_baron1, 02 Octobre 2015

Just a 1 night stay at this city centre hotel in the heart of Bern. Ideally located for the sights and shops of Bern and many cafe's and restaurants within walking distant. The hotel is very modern and although I had a single room it was very big with a double bed and very large flat screen TV with loads of channels from most of the European countries surrounding Switzerland. All the English TV stations were available. As it was our last night in Switzerland our group had a leaving do and meal in the hotel. The meal was excellent and the portions were large and wholesome. Breakfast in the morning was good with a choice from continental to cooked although no bacon but some type of cooked meat which I avoided. Reception staff very helpful and friendly and quickly acted on my request for more pillows etc. Would go back again to this hotel.

"We will not go back again"
charleswu1950, 19 Septembre 2015

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Bern between Sep. 04-07, 2015. We had very unpleasant experience with the hotel. The old fashioned toilet flush was not working well. Room was small and the old type of safe deposit came with a key with room number on it (lucky we didn't lose the key). Chair in the room came without back-support. Further more, the cleark behind the counter, in a rude tone, refused to offer us a "zero balance receipt" when we checked out (such receipts are required by many companies in the U.S. for tax purpose). Breakfast room was crowded and food was running out at 8:15 AM.. The only good thing I can say is it's convenient location to the old town. We stayed at this hotel several times before Best Western had taken it over. It was a better hotel at the time. No, this hotel has lost our business after our recent stay. We will not go back again.

"Terrific location; clean rooms; pleasant staff; no complaints!"
Orion7777, 15 Septembre 2015

The Best Western Hotel Bern is ideally situated -- just a block from the clock tower and Old Town, and about three blocks from the train station. The rooms are small, but clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. There is no A/C, but the rooms have fans. We stayed in a room overlooking the rear courtyard, and it was extremely quiet on that side of the building. Those rooms have small balconies. Breakfast (included in our rate) was excellent and plentiful. The free WiFi was outstanding. Overall, we couldn't have been happier with our choice of this hotel, and with Bern, as our base of operations during a wonderful week touring Switzerland by train!

"Can't go wrong with this location"
Shan199, 14 Septembre 2015

Excellent location. Right at the heart of the old town. Close to everything including the railroad station. There is a super market next door if you need to buy something. Parking is 3 min walking distance. Staff was very friendly. We booked two rooms side by side. Both were spacious and clean. Would stay there again
