Description

In the picturesque conservation village of Drymen, within Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, Buchanan Arms Hotel and Leisure Club, is a historic base with adventure on the doorstep. Originally built in 1763, it offers comfortable rooms, some overlooking peaceful gardens, a leisure club with an indoor pool, sauna and gym, and Guy's Restaurant for hearty Scottish fare. The National Park is the great draw. The eastern shore of Loch Lomond lies around four miles away, the West Highland Way passes close by, and the climb up nearby Conic Hill is rewarded with one of the finest loch views in Scotland. Set out early, breathe in the cool highland air, and let the path lead you up to that long silver stretch of water. There is heritage too, with the ruins of Buchanan Castle a mile away and Glengoyne Distillery a short drive off. Central Glasgow is around 30 minutes by car, putting city and Highlands within the same trip. Base yourself in Drymen and let Loch Lomond set the rhythm of your stay. "Hotel stay"
robbiec793, 17 Septembre 2026

So I've stayed here recently. Yes the hotel is a little dated and the boiler was broken so no hot water. However, the staff, especially on reception were extremely friendly, polite and helpful. One in particular. I think her name was Julie or something like that. The breakfast is reasonable, although I'd say to class as a Scottish breakfast you need Lorne and not link sausage. I would definitely stay here again as it's perfectly placed for exploring Loch Lomond and surrounding areas. Apparently the bar serves and excellent Malibu and milk!! Who knew! It was surprisingly good!

"Slam, creak, bang"
FlashG82, 04 Septembre 2026

A good hotel for walkers as some of the rooms are a fair walk with more twists and turns than a Wetherspoons toilet route. The hotel is tired and home to a lot of ex (dead) spiders in the corridors. The floorboards make more noise than the slamming doors with the upstairs room trying to get their 10000 steps at 0615 through to after 7. Every morning. Door that is ‘alarmed' left open all day through into the evening / night. Also, heating was on full pelt with all the windows left open so not sure what to make of that. Rooms were clean though and comfortable mattresses.

"Excellent Welcome with a peaceful location"
Ivan H, 20 Août 2026

Stayed at The Buchanan Arms. With Greenline Coach Holidays. A very friendly warm welcome was given. The rooms were comfortable. Bed was decent. Food was a good standard.. A peaceful location. I would definitely recommend and I would visit again.

"Buchannan Arms Hotel and Leisure Club"
guy m, 10 Août 2026

Friendly staff, homely environment, and great food. I'll definitely be back

"Extremely pleasant stay"
Tom C, 28 Juillet 2026

Great stay - executive room ( 39) large well furnished and clean King bed very comfortable - Dinner in the restaurant was excellent and well served - as was breakfast and the pool was enjoyable Couldn't fault anything

"Poor sleep - the spa saves it"
Lorraine m, 26 Juillet 2026

Stayed for one night with my partner purely for the spa access and that was definitely the best bit of our stay. I do have to say that we can't fault the staff. The girl who checked us in was absolutely lovely and all other staff, including at breakfast, were friendly and welcoming. We also can't fault the spa - it was clean and relaxing and we had a lovely time chilling in the jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. The spa is 100% the selling point of the hotel. We booked a King Executive room which was very spacious, if somewhat dated and a little dusty, and had a huge bed we were looking forward to. The bathroom was very modern with good shower and nice towels, however the toiletries were pretty much non existent so I was glad I had brought my own. Unfortunately we had a terrible sleep for 2 reasons: 1) the bed was the hardest mattress I have ever tried to sleep on. It was honestly like a concrete slab. I am genuinely perplexed how it could be so firm. My partner likes a firm mattress and even he said it was agony. 2) the room was sweltering. The radiators were off, however the piping all round the room was red hot with no way to cool this so even with the windows open we were sweating all night which added to the poor sleep. We were also very disappointed with the breakfast. The continental selection was very poor. Just some sad looking cereal, tinned fruit and very limited cold meat and a lonely slice of cheese. The hot food was from the menu only, and was very limited in choice - full breakfast or porridge. We both opted for the full breakfast and it was OK , however the scrambled egg was inedible. We understand it's a 3 star hotel so expectations should be lower, I guess, however they charge 4 star prices , at £160 for 1 night bed and breakfast, so we do not feel it was good value for money at all given how uncomfortable we were and the poor breakfast. The spa really does save this hotel.

"Bit tired but still ok!"
Wendy F, 26 Juillet 2026

Stayed here with friends and although we were in the basement rooms we still had a decent stay. As mentioned in other reviews the decor and general appearance is a bit tired and could do with an update, the hotel is in a good location. The rooms were clean, not huge but for one night was ok. We did have an issue with one of the lights hanging off the wall but just stayed clear and reported it as we left. The food at night was really good, huge portions and well cooked. Waiting staff did their best. Breakfast was nice, good choice. Don't stay here if you are overly picky or expecting a luxury hotel, but it's good value.

"Miserable night of no sleep"
Liz R, 11 Juillet 2026

Worst sleep ever!!!!!! The hotel room was so hot and no way to control the heating temperature. We had to get reception at 10:30pm to open the stuck window to allow the heat to escape. They also had a birthday party that played very loud music through to 12 midnight. And people in groups outside our window talking loudly until 1am. Not against functions at the hotel but we needed a good night sleep. The hotel should not have booked other guests other than those at the party to stay in the accommodation. Saying that, we are on the West Highland Walk and really needed to rest and recover. Which was impossible. Bed was hard and not restful but the spa before dinner was excellent. Overall, poor sleep , unhappy stay and bad start to our next long day of walking

"Shabby and dated"
770giss, 10 Juillet 2026

Beautiful location and really handy for Loch Lomond /west highland way but the hotel room we had was disgusting. Shabby and dated. Didn't get our room cleaned whilst we were there on a 2 night stay. Bar staff , pool staff and waitresses were really warm and friendly but I would never stay here again. Breakfast rubbish, you would be better off elsewhere and there is a nice bakery nearby and other restaurants for meals. Need to improve, and embarrassment to Scottish hospitality. There are much nicer places for the price you pay here.

"Loved our stay"
Evie K, 19 Juin 2026

Stayed for two nights, perfect location for exploring nearby Loch Lomond. Staff are so friendly and helpful, especially Julie on reception. Dinner was so enjoyable and great value. Our room was comfortable and quiet. Would definitely stay again.

"Lovely stay"
Sab77786, 19 Juin 2026

The hotel was perfect for what we were looking for—quiet at night, in a great location, and serving excellent food. Julie on reception was fantastic and went above and beyond to help us throughout our stay. Her friendly and helpful attitude really made a difference. If I'm in the area again, I will definitely stay here again and would happily recommend it to others.

"Put fans in each room"
eastridgevince, 11 Juin 2026

This place was very nice. Very large room. Clean! I would recommend they get a fan for each room. We requested one just a little late, as they had run out of them. Also, not a big deal, but it would be nice to have someone assist with your luggage. As I was carrying our heavy suitcases down the steep stairs, a young man working at the front desk watched me struggle, but did not offer to assist. Not a big issue, but would have been nice to have assistance.

"Too small"
Toni D, 01 Juin 2026

The room was too small for a couple that you could barely move in the room. We were doing the West Highland Way and our luggage was cramped in there. Beautiful decoration, but the TV was awful. Would have been better if it had been a smart tv to be able to unwind after the walk of the day.

"A mess"
Tanya H, 27 Mai 2026

The rooms are spacious, but not very clean. There was a layer of dust on our bedside tables, and mold on the walls in the bathroom. Service is a hot mess. Our room wasn't cleaned while we stayed there (two nights) - no clean towels, no taking out the trash, no cleaning the toilet or straightening the bed. (Profuse apologies from the reception, "we'll talk with housekeeping tomorrow, here are some clean towels, let me take out the trash for you"). One of the two days, our packed lunch order got misplaced, no packed lunches when we intended to set out. (We'll get it ready for you now, give us 20 minutes) A cup at our table at breakfast was cracked - everything spilled out. This is not at all what I expect from a four-star hotel.

"Awoken by very creaking floors above early"
Dean S, 25 Mai 2026

Stayed here for a wedding and was woken at 7am the morning after from the worst creaking floor imaginable from the room above. I get it's an old hotel but it was so loud and bad and went on for ages. The breakfast was pretty poor aswell, eggs were literally like rubber. The positives are definitely the gym and pool etc. Don't usually leave negative reviews but the breakfast and noise from room above was really bad.

"Horrendous"
_karennisbet72, 17 Mai 2026

Awe arrived in the hotel and left within 20 mins. I got a voucher and the hotel is really embarrassing, lpoor, dirty and old and smells really bad. Absolutely horrible and not to be rude but a smelly old folks home

"Ghastly stay in Drymen"
Michael H, 01 Mai 2026

This is an awful establishment with staff only marginally better than Basil Fawlty. Staff need proper training and some care taken to offer a professional service to visitors. The only good thing about our overnight stay was the group of musicians having a jam session, guitars, banjo, harmonicas, fiddle, drum and singing. I think I would rather sleep in my car and have a takeaway if I was in the locality again.

"lovely place to stay"
af9422, 28 Avril 2026

we were gifted a wowchr for a ovrnight stay at this hotel this included dinner and use of the spa facilities. what a great find staff were lovely we booked a great masage (thanks maxine) and used the pool facilities. Staff could not have been nicer. room was great clean and comfortable. Dinner was excellent too overall we would def recommend and look forward to returning thanks to all :)

"Hotel in desperate need of update"
Jacqueline S, 18 Avril 2026

Poor experience at Buchanan Arms whilst walking the West Highland Way. Not sure if they save the shabby rooms for the walkers, furthest from reception down three flights of stairs. The man from reception kindly carried our bags down on arrival, however no one free to do the same on leaving. The bar man's first words were, “hang on a minute”. Room was shabby, dusty and no one appeared to ever move or clean behind the furniture. Breakfast tepid. Hotel run by kids who have no idea

"Sinking ship over last 2,years to what it was"
David M, 14 Avril 2026

As a loyal customer over the last 10.years , I've had enough , the reception as soon you walk through is a absolute embarrassment attitude problems customer care shocking the attitude of one in particular who i had problems with last year I dont know how she still has a job, I travel all over the world go to hotels and get a warm welcome. Here it's like a ice bath shocking . Seriously management up your game with a few of the receptionist who are arrogant this one in particular. She's beefs put on a course for her customer care. Yous know who it is the same one who had had numerous complaints The positive of hotel was Anitta on breakfast in morning and the night manager ester a credit to this hotel I wont be back Up your game reception absolute shocking

"Disappointing Stay"
Pioneer19964616291, 05 Avril 2026

Just home from this hotel after an overnight stay with my husband and so disappointed with our stay here. I had bought this through wowcher and when I booked it , I was asked to pay an extra £50 on what I had already paid due to it being a Saturday stay and lack of rooms and for this additional cost it would be a superior room! Well the room we were given was definitely not superior it was anything but! It was dated, carpets absolutely filthy , bathroom was old and could seriously do with an overhaul. The so called superior room's bed was basically 2 single beds joined together , bed was uncomfortable, lumpy mattress that dipped in the middle so both of us had a terrible sleep. The corridors leading to the room are old, worn and smell bad. We had a meal included in our stay, it was ok nothing special, portions were quite small and adds on's expensive and again small portions. No atmosphere in this hotel, it was Easter weekend so it would have been nice to have some sort of entertainment, sadly there was nothing. The bar had a tv showing old football matches , very loud and could hardly hear our conversation, bar staff surly and bored. The lounge was much the same zero atmosphere and another tv playing old music videos. Breakfast was buffet style , not a great selection on offer, no glasses next to the drinks dispensers meaning had to go back to your table and collect glasses and go back to get a drink of juice or water. Food was lukewarm at best. I would not recommend this hotel and was keen to leave early and go home.

"Disappointed "
MurielBFife, 25 Mars 2026

This may he premature, but we've travelled enough and been in a lot of hotels to know what's good and what's not. We just bought a double whisky and a glass of wine - as the one brandy on offer was very expensive - the young man who took our payment didn't as much as say thank you or acknowledge our custom. There was no offer of a receipt? Really not good enough! Our meal was OK. I enjoyed the curry dish which was labeled Tikka Masala - Not! My husband didn't enjoy it. The deserts and cheese boards were very enjoyable. The service, again, was very under par. Wine literally plonked on the table and left. OK?? Had to request desert menus and were then asked if we would like to order our main course!? We came here often, granted years ago, but I wonder how it survives wit such low standards of service. Plus...... They don't serve lunch?? We travelled nearly 2 hours to be told we're not doing lunch today. We did find lunch nearby but hey! Here for another night yet but with very low expectations. Such a shame. We loved this hotel.

"We had a mixed experience"
derek5176, 23 Mars 2026

Exceptional service and dinner, but rooms and breakfast need attention "We had a mixed experience here, though the staff and dining were clear highlights. Dining & Service: The staff were incredibly nice and welcoming throughout our stay. We had a really enjoyable dinner; I started with the falafel, which was served with a delicious hummus sauce—a great combination. For the mains, the Fish and Chips had well-cooked, flaky fish (though the chips felt a bit like they might have been reheated). My wife really enjoyed the Chicken Tikka Masala, which had a lovely, rich sauce. The Hotel & Rooms: The bar and lounge areas are actually very nice and comfortable communal spaces. However, the room itself was very basic and felt quite dated. My biggest complaint was that it was far too warm. I had to open the window fully to cool it down, which felt like a safety concern for an upper floor. We also found the bed wasn't as comfortable as other hotels we've stayed in. Breakfast & Check-out: Breakfast was a bit of a letdown; the buffet could have been warmer, milk wasn't labeled, and no vegetarian options were clearly visible. We had arranged a late check-out for a long lie-in, but unfortunately, the cleaning staff had their radios on in the corridor, which was quite loud and disruptive when we were trying to rest. Overall: It's hard to tell if the hotel is 'quirky' or just dated, but it was clean and the service was excellent. We would consider coming back, but only if there was a particularly good deal."

"Get the training started."
AandF68, 18 Mars 2026

Returned to the hotel after several years , last there for a wedding . Must say the standard has dropped. When we arrived the young girl was pleasent enough but she could have stood up to greet us. The room was fairly basic and small but clean enough , only problem was the heating was very high. We did not have evening meal but used the bar , staff require some training as they could not find products on the till or know the appropriate measures to use , a lot of glasses and cups left on tables for long periods of time in lounge area. All in all our stay was fine for the price but definetly room for improvement .

"Value for money"
Victoria L, 16 Mars 2026

We stayed for a Saturday night on a Xmas gift voucher from our friends (you'll need to pay extra 30£ for a weekend stay). The hotel needs refurbishment, the decor is dated, some carpets on the stairs are torn and we had a broken chair in our room which we told the reception (hope they will replace it for next guests). The room was OKish for a 3-star hotel, otherwise, although we made a couple of loops before reaching it (but that's typical for old British hotels :). What we can't fault at all was the dinner. I had mussels for a starter and sea bass for the main. My husband had smoked salmon and stuffed chicken. We also decided to go for toffee puddings. Everything was quite tasty, although the restaurant was full. The service was also good. Unimpressed by the breakfast though. Very basic ingredients for a traditional. Scottish breakfast. Only fried eggs on offer, no scrambled eggs…The leisure centre wasn't bad. Quite small, sauna wasn't hot enough, and we didn't manage to get to the steam room as it was constantly busy. We were lucky to have live entertainment and enjoyed the performance of a singer. Taking into account that this was a voucher deal, I have to say we were overall happy with what we've got. Shame we haven't had an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful area as it was raining non-stop.

"Best hotel in Scotland"
Dolina D, 14 Mars 2026

We stayed as a family at the Buchanan arms for my birthday. When we arrived there was a birthday card and a teddy for each of my girls they were so delighted! This is our 3rd time staying here and we will be back again soon this hotel has everything you would want in a weekend break. The pool is warm and clean and my children love it. It opens at 7am which is perfect with little ones! The food in the hotel is some of the best we have ever had at a hotel! We love this hotel and will be back again soon!

"Great hotel worth a visit"

"Enjoyable stay"
Cliff D, 28 Février 2026

Stayed here recently for two nights. Hotel a little dated in places but very clean and we had a lovely big room. Leisure facilities are excellent and the food was excellent, both evening meal and breakfast. Can definitely recommend and hope to return

"Best night at Buchanan Arms"
Cherylanne K, 28 Février 2026

I stayed at the Buchanan arms for one night and had the best time. Dinner was wonderful. The food was top notch. I used the leisure facilities and was very happy to be able to have a sauna and swim while I stayed. The staff were fantastic and helpful, I lost an earring that was very special to me and staff managed to return it to me. I was extremely happy to have it returned. Although I only stayed one night (Christmas gift), I will definitely be returning for a longer stay. Drymen is a beautiful town and I will be back

"Awful hotel"
Michael D, 26 Février 2026

Spent the night at the Buchanan Arm hotel, started off well , visited there amenities , then when down hill from there visited the restaurant Food was awful didn't even think pre scooped ice cream was a thing with it covered in freezer burn 🙈 , then fire alarm went off 4 times during the night , poor girl on reception didn't know how to fix , Breakfast was a whole new low , heat lamp in the buffet style breakfast wasn't working so they removed all food items and I thought they were going to start taking orders but no just took it into kitchen and reheated and re served ,🤢defenetly avoid this hotel

"Two day Break"
Fairliebhoy, 24 Février 2026

Arrived on a Sunday afternoon but were disappointed to not get anything to eat. The evening meal was good as was breakfast. The room was a good size but a little evidence of dogs being in it. It was also exceptionally warm making it uncomfortable to sleep. Had to sleep with windows open in mid February! Overall it was good value and the staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Not a lot of atmosphere in the bar or lounge. Drymen itself is a lovely place, with other bars and close to Balmaha.

"Great stay at Buchanan arms"
Roberta F, 20 Février 2026

We had a lovely time in this hotel the room was lovely we were in room 11 very big clean and the king size bed was so comfortable evening meal was Very good and so was the breakfast.mostly the staff made our stay as they were so nice and welcoming thanks

"Good food, room badly in need of upgrade."
susansR3949FS, 16 Février 2026

We were on a 5pm deal dinner bed and breakfast, which was terrific value. The evening meal was plentiful, well cooked, fresh and delicious, breakfast was basic Scottish fair buffet style but well cooked and buffet style. The leisure club was excellent with a good pool, sauna and small jacuzzi. The gym had a good variety of weights and bikes, running and rowing machines. The lounge is nice with colourful sofas, the conservatory is cold with no atmosphere, as is the bar. The room we had was in the basement, a room given to people with dogs, it was badly in need of an update. Furthermore, it was freezing as the radiator only gave out minimum heat even the bedding was cold, so felt damp. Moreover the hot water was not hot, as best it was lukewarm and at worst cold.

"Spa & Afternoon Tea"
wendyashman75, 15 Février 2026

Just back from a visit to the spa followed by afternoon tea. The spa is a bit tired and could definitely do with a little TLC though the staff were nice and friendly. The afternoon tea was a disappointment. I'd given them a few days notice that there was a vegan in the party but what they provided was poor. 3 vegan sandwiches all with the same “filling” of just coleslaw while the meat eaters were provided with a platter of sandwiches with various fillings. If you can't provide decent vegan food (which let's be honest isn't that difficult in this day & age) then at least be honest and we could have gone elsewhere. The young server was friendly and communicated our dissatisfaction with the manger and we were offered a free drink though most of us were driving so we couldn't really take advantage of it. Another slight grumble is that we were booked and prepaid for 6 but one friend was unwell so couldn't come. We were give Prosecco (which we were taking away) but only 5 Mini bottles instead of the 6 that had been paid for. Overall a disappointing experience.

"Fantastic Value Winter Break"
Audrey M, 15 Février 2026

Stayed for 2 nights all in all great place, staff attentive and hepful, food in Restaurant was delicious, drinks reasonably priced, spa was perfect, room was comfortable warm and clean all you need for a short stay, Drymmen is great wee village had a wander and stopped into the local pub, Breakfast was abundant with top class ingredients, only one thing it needs to be hotter, but we will definately be back, for £99 per night what is not too like

"Excellent"
Gordon G, 14 Février 2026

Room was great , spa was excellent , maybe a bit busy , dinner i had fish chips one of the best I've had breakfast was a bit short of stuff , but we went down at 9pm next morning I went down at 8-30 it was excellent , so we had a very good 2 nights the second night there were people in strumming , the music was excellent

"Disappointing Stay"
HazelB1971, 14 Février 2026

Stayed here as part of a voucher deal and paid to upgrade our room. Arrived early as planned a walk along the WHW and it was no issue to leave our car in the car park. Check in was quick and easy when we returned and we were placed in room 38 - avoid this room at all costs!! It's right about the front doors which need serious maintenance! They squeak and bang every time someone goes in or out - which is a lot! It's also at the top of the stairs and is very noisy, especially when the reception staff are dealing with people. Good, comfy super king size bed but the shower (over bath) was terrible. Not nearly warm enough and as I was washing my hair, my husband had to wait at least half an hour for the water to reheat - not ideal when you have a dinner reservation. We had a two course dinner included in our deal and the waitress took our order efficiently and quickly but after three quarters of an hour no food had arrived. When we asked we were told that unfortunately our meals hadn't been ordered. Apologies were given, as well as a complimentary drink, but we didn't get our meals till after 9. Also the dining room is so brightly lit, it doesn't really lend itself to a romantic, intimate space As the socket next to my bed wasn't working I had to place my bedside lamp on the floor to get a working socket. We didn't bother going for breakfast so I can't comment on that. Drymen is a lovely wee village but we won't be rushing to stay at the Buchanan Arms again.

"Night away"
Resort01144382361, 11 Février 2026

We arrived around 4pm the car park was full and we had to park on the street, so no issue there. Checkin was quick and easy. We were in room 7. The view from the room was an old fridge next to staff cars I assume. We just closed the blind so no issue. We had book dinner prior to arrival so it was fine. We went to the bar for a drink before dinner and we rang the bell multiple times and no one appeared. I went to reception and they got the bar staff. My partner is veggie and I said this on the booking. Starters were nice my main sea bass was good my partners veggie tikka masala what basically the veg from the steak pie with tikka masala poured over. All of the veg was hard and huge bits of veg not cut up, on my partners plate and my broccoli wasn't cooked either. I said to the waitress and she never returned with the desserts menu. We had to chase someone down to give us menus and take our orders. The dessert was good. Breakfast was fine basically a regular hotel breakfast. Overall it was a good visit and we would return again.

"Spa day with afternoon tea"
Kimberly M, 10 Février 2026

Treated my mum to a spa day with afternoon tea. Staff were lovely, facilities were lovely too. Afternoon tea was absolutely delicious, cakes were perfect! Lady let us finish the bottle of Prosecco and we sat in the lobby with drinks for a good few hours, will 100% be back. Such a good day

"Great but breakfast issues"
carol s, 08 Février 2026

Lovely pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room. Pool was warm, area clean Evening meal was lovely. Breakfast wasn't great for vegetarians or gluten free as there was zero signage to help with choices also the dishes of meat and non meat breakfast items were all mixed up, therefore bacon was being lifted over vegetarian dishes. Tongs and ladels were unlabelled as to which dish they belonged. I choose the vegetarian items with my fork. The vegetarian evening meal was fabulous. The room was nice, comfy mattress and quiet. Small issue with an area in bathroom but hoping it will be rectified, staff listened well regards it. Photo attached. Overall a nice hotel, lovely comfy couches to relax in. The beautician was fully booked, we should've booked sooner.

"Good overnight stay"
Alma W, 02 Février 2026

We came for dinner, bed and breakfast. Very friendly welcoming and easy check in with straight forward instructions on how to get to our room. The room and bathroom was amazing very fresh and clean. Dinner was very tasty and good size portions. The only reason I haven't gave five stairs as the lounge and dinner could do with a little updating even a lick of gloss on the woodwork and the fire place in the lounge was very dusty as if it hadn't been cleaned for a few weeks. Apart from that everything was fine and we enjoyed our stay and probably be back.

"Amazing short family break"
jennifer m, 24 Janvier 2026

Just back from a two night stay here and would highly recommend. We had our 1 year old baby girl with us, and we all really enjoyed our stay. Rooms were clean, food was lovely, and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Special mention to Brian the duty manager who went out of his way to look after us. We will definitely visit again.

"Definitely visit Buchanan Arms hotel!"
Yv1, 16 Janvier 2026

Stayed on the Winter dinner, bed and breakfast deal and could not fault a thing. Lovely room, enjoyed some downtime in the pool and sauna area. Followed by a delicious 2 course dinner, haggis bon bons, lamb shank and steak are amazing and totally recommended! Then full Scottish breakfast the following morning with loads of choice and continental options. Great experience with lovely staff throughout the hotel, in particular restaurant staff who moved things around so we could sit by the window at dinner. Nothing was a bother. We met couples who were regular guests we will definitely be back, even tried to book for later this month and unsurprisingly the hotel is full until March.

"Lovely stay"
Denise R, 13 Janvier 2026

Had a lovely stay here, staff very friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble. Dinner waa absolutely delicious and service was great! Rooms were warm comfortable and clean, very comfy beds

"Fabulous hotel and staff"
karenh14, 08 Janvier 2026

Stayed on a voucher deal, but absolutely didn't feel inferior. We were upgraded in our room- at least I assume we were as the deal was "cosy double" if this was cosy double then the premier suites must've taken a whole floor! Huge superking bed, separate seating area with table , en-suite with fab shower. Food in restaurant was delicious, had 2 x courses as part of deal and definitely don't get a cheaper menu - food piping hot and Quality food prepared and obviously not "pub grub". Used lesuire club , not busy at all, and enjoyed a swim, sauna and steam. Breakfast next day was also high standard again with quality ingredients- full Scottish breakfast was huge ! I have to mention the amazing lady who was on shift (blonde, English girl), she was a one woman power house who despite being the only member of staff on, left no one waiting and was such a friendly, bubbly person and made every guest feel attended too. She is an absolute asset to your company, but actually all of the staff from arrival in reception to leaving were fabulous. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay.

"Lovely hotel, frequent visitor."
Q6608ZQlauraf, 04 Janvier 2026

We love this hotel and have stayed countless times but this time were booked into the family room which only had one working radiator. The room was absolutely freezing and had we not been able to use the spare duvet from the additional bed, we would have had a very chilly stay. The one working radiator had a sofa in front of it which wasn't ideal. Sad really as the room, itself was lovely, very spacious and clean. Will be avoiding this room when making future bookings.

"Fantastic stay for couples"
Kimberly C, 27 Décembre 2025

My husband took me to the buchanan arms for my 40th birthday. The rooms are lovely, my husband spent sometime in the pool while I had a fantastic back massage. We then enjoyed a amazing meal and cocktails in the restaurant. We both had a great night sleep and enjoyed breakfast before leaving. Staff were extremely professional and pleasant. Fantastic experience

"Not to be missed fabulous hotel"
Raymond K, 12 Décembre 2025

A fabulous overnight stay on a dinner bed and breakfast deal. Loved it so much rebooked on checkout . This hotel has a 3 star rating probably the best 3 star I have ever stayed . The place is decorated to very high standards with the food and staff fabulous. For a break to charge your batteries this place is a must , our experience was wonderful. Thanks to all staff . This place is available on a special with Wowcher but they price match with less Wowcher T's and C's so book direct.

James I, 01 Décembre 2025

The hotel has a great location with plenty of on site parking, check in was smooth, we went straight to our room No 23 very spacious warm and clean. We found the bar prices good and any member of staff we had dealings with were friendly and helpful. We dined in the restaurant where we started with Mussels and Three Bean salad followed by poached haddock fillet. Both courses were outstanding. Breakfast in the morning had plenty of choice both hot and cold. However if I could mention one thing was that the breakfast plates for hot buffet were cold would not take much to correct this. Also yes the place could do with a refresh in most areas but it is a three star hotel I have been in four and five star hotels suffering from the same faults all in all the staff make it a great place and of course the very reasonable rates.Did not have time to sample spa but will do so on next visit.

"Dilapidated and short staffed"
Donna S, 10 Novembre 2025

Beautiful big building on outside but so disappointing inside. The inside really hasn't been very well maintained at all. Got into our room, which was tiny, but main issue was how run down it was and not best cleaned! Asked to move to a better room & whilst the new room was larger in size, it really wasn't in any better condition/state of cleanliness. Mould, cobwebs, built up dust, poor finishings, e.g. giant holes in wall at radiator, etc. Tv wouldn't work/no service. Standard of cleaning not great at all....see photos. Mould and soap scum on shower/taps, etc. Disappointing to say the least. Was no point in asking to be moved again as they were apparently fully booked. Breakfast was awful; there were only 2 staff on, 1 was serving and the other was dealing with kitchen duties. Food items and fresh juice, etc had run out and they couldn't keep up with guests coming in never mind topping these up. A very disappointing stay and not to be repeated.

"Fabulous 2 night anniversary stay"
nessie2665, 10 Novembre 2025

Booked 2 night dinner B&B offer for our anniversary & our friends joined us for 1 night too. We were allowed to check in early as room was available which was lovely and then we enjoyed afternoon tea which we pre booked for £16 per couple. It was the tastiest chicken & bacon sandwich I've ever had as it had a little kick to it. We enjoyed sitting in the lounge watching the Scottish Rugby on the TV. Dinner both nights was tasty and plentiful. I especially enjoyed the haggis and orange juice at breakfast which was busy on the Sunday mornings as most people came down late. I was very impressed with the spa area as the pool was heated to a relaxing warm bath temp unlike other pools elsewhere where I dip my toe in & find it freezing cold, although we didn't use the gym I could appreciate the size of the space and the many different appliances on offer including a weights room. This is defo a wonderful asset to the hotel guests and the local area. We ventured around the corner to other pubs for a drink and to watch a singer before returning to the hotel bar. We had such a wonderful time that we may come back next year for our anniversary again the hotel staff made us feel very welcome.

"Fantastic stay"

Had a great stay at hotel , superior room was decent size . Had dinner and breakfast and both really nice . Found staff very helpful . Special mention to beautician Maxine myself and wife booked massages , put us at ease with everything and fully relaxed after it … definitely return 👍

"A wee night away"
lornaa483, 27 Octobre 2025

We have stayed here previously and has always been good. The staff are friendly and helpful and the lounge area is very comfy. We stayed in the king room which was clean and very spacious. The bed was comfy so we had a good night sleep. I can't comment on the food or spa as we ate elsewhere and didn't bring swimwear so couldn't use the spa. Will definitely be returning so will try the spa the next time

"5 star meal"
Maria H, 10 Octobre 2025

We had a fantastic experience in the Montrose Restaurant. We were celebrating our silver wedding anniversary. We both enjoyed a 3 course a la carte menu my husband commented on how fresh the steamed muscles were and his steak was cooked to perfection by John the head chef. Ava and Stephanie gave us wonderful table service and were happy to discuss our menu choices with us. My poached haddock was so tasty and had delicious accompaniments. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening meal and I noticed the duty manager Grace engaging with guests ensuring they were enjoying their dining experience. A lovely, lovely evening. Well done to all the staff.

"Lovely retreat"
JOHN S, 02 Octobre 2025

Smooth check in by Rosie who was always helpful and friendly and happy to assist. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean. The food was always of a very good standard with attentive staff on duty. We made use of the swimming pool and gym and again the staff were always on hand to assist. Overall excellent value for money and a very enjoyable break and we will definitely return.

"Wouldn't bother."
Wolfy1066, 12 Septembre 2025

Ok where do I start.. My partner and I were here for a birthday gift she was given. Firstly we were met by reception staff who didn't bother greeting us.. we were met with Next... No hello welcome or any other greeting. We explained we were here for the pre booked afternoon tea. The woman said go to the bar..... Where's the bar,? She pointed. We went into the bar and again said why we were there and were met with a distracted staff more interested in her partner getting home.. she handed us a pot of tea and told us to get to the lounge . Health and safety? No. Ok so we sat at a table and a young man came in plonked down a cake stand that had water marks on it.. no hi or greeting in any way . Cakes consisted of 2 small scones with jam and cream a couple of bits sizes cakes and 4 sandwiches . I would guess Nothing was home made apart from sandwiches. The place looks like a old folks home inside looks a bit run down. Not what we expected at all. Pretty gutted to be honest. Staff need a attitude transplant a smile may help. Food was shocking. I have never left a negative review in my life. I can always find something positive to say. Not in this case. A gentleman sitting with his grandson told us the spa was good and the food used to be good . We didn't use the spa so can't comment... Sad to see somewhere with a lot of potential being run like this. Hope it improves in the future...

"Amazing Service and Food"
Frank H, 12 Septembre 2025

How do you mark perfection this hotel is one of the few hotels in UK who actually care about their customers and give a true 5* service. Room was spacious and very clean throughout, the service from arrival to departure was a true 5* experience. We had dinner in the restaurant and all I can say three course meal cooked to perfection. The waitresses in the restaurant although young gave a true dining experience. Ann in the bar is an amazing young lady who really cares about you and goes the extra mile to ensure you enjoy your drinks and have a good time. The Spa, pool and gym facilities are very good. The management should be proud of the team they have assembled at the hotel all I can say is can't wait for my next stay. We had the Afternoon Tea sandwiches should be cut triangles and there should be savouries such as sausage rolls quiche or similar, manager needs to improve on high tea, that said it was tasty.

"Bad service"
Sightseer59863275532, 12 Septembre 2025

Second time trying to book this hotel for a break, had to pay £40 upgrade for a room that had hair and toothpaste in the bathroom, large radiator not working!.. Restaurant was a whole different experience, booked a table for 7.30 was asked to take a seat in the lounge and they would come and get us when table was ready, was in the lounge 10 mins when another couple was brought in to do the same, a wee while later Manageress came and got the other couple and we were left waiting, I waited until 8.20 and then had to go to reception to ask what was happening we had been waiting almost an hour receptionist got the Restaurant manageress who asked me "have you booked a table?.. what's your name?"... I told her I had booked a table for 2 through their reception for 7.30 and was still waiting was told she would sort it, she came back asked me if I had booked a table yet again we were eventually shown to a table 8.45, handed a menu and ignored for the next 15 mins or so by waiting staff, a member of staff eventually came and took our order , then came back again 10 mins later to ask "what was it you ordered ?"again! ..both time no record of the order was taken down!.. meanwhile there was a couple kicking off and a lot of unhappy diners... it was a very poor service, my partner was very agitated as we had been ignored not even offered a drink!.. poor show all round manageress didn't have a clue what she was doing!.. only good thing to come of it was the food was good when it eventually came. No towels at the spa, notices up telling you to bring towels from your room to use. There is no lift and place is like a maze... dark and very dated... Reception staff and spa staff only ones that knew what they were doing! Needless to say we ate out on our second night!...

"Really Impressed"
Paul H, 09 Septembre 2025

We went as part of the Alfa Romeo Owner's Club and had a very enjoyable stay. We stayed in room 51. The room was adequate; an ironing board and heated towel rail would have been handy. The bed was large, but the mattress was tired. The room was warm. Great facilities for the price; pool, sauna, steam room, gym; even a squash court. In the evening the staff looked after us really well decking out the room with a distinctive Italian feel and the food was excellent. The butternut squash soup was really good as was the chicken with peppercorn sauce. The ice cream was actually top notch; not something all establishments understand. Breakfast was very good too. All in all really good value.

"Let's keep it short. Top class in every respect!"
NeilJ1227, 08 Septembre 2025

A group of us (six couples and a family of three) stayed at the hotel for the second night of an Alfa Romeo Owners' Club event. Dinner, bed & breakfast was superb value with the hotel really getting into the swing of things with Italian flag coloured bunting, serviettes and an Italian themed menu. The staff were wonderfully welcoming, extending that welcome to the mascot (a collie). The bedrooms were excellent, the food was tasty and all in all, exactly what we wanted. Well done to everyone on duty during our stay and to the conference manager who was, not unreasonably, having a weekend off but had set everything up beautifully.

"Great staff, poor food."
N3921SEjudyh, 05 Septembre 2025

The staff were the best feature of this hotel who were overworked, and the local musicians in the bar. The evening meal was average (gf options catered for), but the breakfast was awful! Left too long to dry out and next to no gf options, except cor toast which they did claim to offer. The rooms were ok. Probably not going again.

"Reasonable"
2725ejk, 03 Septembre 2025

Interesting mixture of good and bad. Staff were friendly but the place was dated. Carpets in our bedroom all stained with god knows what but unfortunately not much the housekeepers can do with that until owners call for necessary renovations. Went for dinner, definitely lacking in attention to detail there - my wine glass had a big streaking sauce stain on it and cutlery was a bit minging. Setting a table and checking everything's clean is surely bare minimum so maybe a bit of direction and encouragement needing to be provided for staff there. The kitchen, however, seem to be getting it right. Best steak of my life, after a couple hours walk I thought I'd been sent to heaven during that meal. My friend had the lamb shanks which had the same effect. Major compliments to the chef, couldn't have been better.

"Magnificent stay"
Michelle D, 20 Août 2025

What a beautiful hotel. Beautiful food and friendly staff. Well situated to visit many great historical sites and Lochs. The small village is quaint and has everything you need if you don't want to travel too far. Great experience, we will be back.

"Worst hotel I've ever stayed at."
craig A, 17 Août 2025

I don't like giving bad reviews but this was bad. Bed wasn't made properly and we had to remake it. Linen and a towel dirty. Heating on and absolutely roasting during the night in August!!. Mattress too hard. Breakfast was cheap products and dry. Pool was roasting. Possibly the worst hotel I have stayed in.

"Dated and daft comments by staff"
daveinglasgow, 30 Juillet 2025

This place is ok. It's not average but s bit below as it does need some tlc. Our room unlike others was OK. Nothing special but ok. The steam room needs work as its not hot! but when the steam does cone in at last stay away from where it comes in or you will get scolded. The sauna has a small hole in the side and the girl said this was so you could breath lol and is about as hot last night's pizza The changing rooms were grubby ( mens) but the pool was nice. The gym is basic. Typical we don't care but want it on our sales brochure gym, i.e., no smith machine , very limited machines. It does have a good set of dumbbells though so you can do some things So if it's less than 75 quid a night go for it. If it's over £ 100 there are far better options

"Unclean"
GGOT, 09 Juillet 2025

Room was like a college dorm room, spare, worn and dirty. Very worn carpet was not vacuumed (as were hallways) and room and entire place moldy. The trash was taken out but had to ask for more toilet paper. Front desk cold and unfriendly. Will not return.

"Great overnight stay."
Q6608ZQlauraf, 06 Juillet 2025

Stayed at the Buchanan a few times and loved each time, Room was really spacious and the bath was enormous! Staff around hotel couldn't have been more helpful and the evening entertainment was great. Breakfast was a bit disorganised but food was good and staff, again couldn't be more helpful.

"Over-priced"
Colin J, 30 Juin 2025

Firstly, I would like to say that the staff were amazing and could not be friendlier. When we went to them to report the multiple issues with our room they were understanding and very attentive. However, for the price we paid for 2 nights and the quality of the accommodation we can't help but be disappointed. The room still had soft-drink stains on the wall and the bedsheets had obvious red/ brown stains. From the photos, we were led to believe the room would be of a high standard however it seemed like the room had seen better days (holes in the wall, paint peeling and there was water damage on the lamps). Our shower could not keep a consistent temperature and would go from extremely hot to extremely cold. We reported this and to the hotel's credit the issue was seen to within the hour. This did not resolve the issue and myself and my partner had to shower in cold water. We also expected there to be an ironing board, iron, hairdryer (which you would find at most budget hotels) however none of these were included with the room. I was surprised and disappointed we weren't offered any compensation for these issues and we were still charged the full amount. In summary, although there was nothing majorly wrong with the accommodation the state of our room and the multiple issues had us come away extremely disappointed. We paid £260 for 2 nights (breakfast not included) which is a lot of money for us. We have paid considerably less for hotels which were of a much higher standard and I would not feel compelled to write a review if not for how much we were charged. I will not be returning to this hotel any time soon which is a shame because the staff were so lovely and the area location is ideal for trips into Loch Lomond and the western highlands.

"Poor head receptionist"
Brandon P, 29 Juin 2025

We stayed for one night in an executive king room. There was mold in the bathroom. All in all it's nice for the price however the staff were so difficult to deal with it left a very, very, very bad taste in our mouth and nearly ruined our trip to Scotland.
