    « a great pre cruise idea !!! »

Right from the first greeting at reception my friend and I had a fabulous time at this hotel - we had help with our suitcases to a spacious, spotless twin room on the first floor. We didn't have an evening meal there but the breakfast was amazing and plentiful. They kept our car for the 8 days we were on the cruise and organised a taxi to the port which arrived on time. This was all for £97 for the 2 of us. We will be returning to this lovely friendly hotel very soon.

    « Weekend Break »

We stayed in the Wyldes family room with 3 adults, very large room bath and walk in shower, staff very freindly and approachable, would definitely stay again.Broughty Ferry is a lovely seaside location and is very central for the east coast.

    « Tour stop »

The hotel has a great deal of character, great staff and rooms have very clean ensuite bathrooms. Location wise near the beach the hotel is povides a wonderful stopover for the North Sea. A nice stopover from the usual places in Scotland.

« SHORT BREAK IN BROUGHTY FERRY »

As Broughty Ferry is just a short drive from our home in Edinburgh Woodlands Hotel was an excellent place for a short break. My wife and I enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to return or to recommend it to other people. The hotel was clean, comfortable, friendly and extremely good value.

« Friendly staff make the hotel »

I messed up the booking but nothing was too much trouble for reception staff. Welcoming clean and well maintained. The bedroom was a twin(my error) the single beds not firm enough for me but that's personal preference but room was immaculate and ready early. Ate in the restaurant good food portions reasonable but felt lack of imagination with vegetables ( garden peas,) W when trying to be quality simple things like this can be easily sorted. Pool excellent nice size and gym equipment looked in good condition. Breakfast good excellent porridge but perhaps closer eye on toppling up hot food. Will book here again good value and environment

    « Nice hotel »

Was only here for one night although was a lovely hotel and very clean. It's a bit out the way of restaurants and pubs etc, but the hotel itself was nice, quick check in and check out and staff were friendly.

« Only one night but... »

I only stayed but one night, but I was most impressed by the hotel,. The staff were very friendly. My room was spacious, comfortable and well-appointed. I would certainly consider using the hotel again.

« Mum and four children »

I had a great stay with my 4 children. It was fab to have a room that would accommodate me and my children. Breakfast was great but it would have been much easier for me to manage had I been sat closer to the buffet rather than drag my children through the whole restaurant to get to the library. Aga was exceptional from the moment we arrived until we left. The lady in the health club was great too and lovely to talk to and interested in my kids. Would definitely stay again with my children. Thank you.

    « One Night Stay »

Just returned from a single night stay for Our Anniversary. Lovely modern clean room, very quiet and very comfortable. Enjoyed our stay. Staff pleasant in the bar and very helpful assisted with our request for glasses and ice for our Champagne. My only complaint would be the Reception staff.... check in and check out we were left waiting just that little too long and didn't feel we were truly welcomed. Other than that we had a nice stay. Would return.

    « Highly recommend »

Stayed here for two nights and it was fantastic! The staff were above and beyond helpful even helping us find a screw driver to allow my son to put batteries in his remote control car. The place was spotless one of the cleanest hotels I've ever stayed in ! The leisure suite was also spotless and very nice to be in!

    « Two night break »

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights recently and enjoyed our stay. On arrival there was more than adequate parking, despite being early we received our room keys and check in was fast, efficient and informative. Our room despite being a standard room was more than adequate. Breakfast was good. We used the swimming pool on 2 occasions and it was also very good with the girl on reception very pleasant.

« Liked the Restaurant Best! »

This hotel is adequate for most needs. The restaurant is excellent and I visit it frequently. The bar is too small for large events and could be extended. The rooms are fine, generally but the attic ones should be avoided, as they have small windows and sloped roofs. Their bathrooms are narrow, there are noisy water pumps in them, which are loud when in use and there is poor soundproofing between the adjoining bedrooms.

    « Short Weekend Break »

Great hotel with excellent leisure facilities and great value for money , will definitely return with other family members for another weekend break. Staff were excellent , very helpful and friendly to ensure you had a pleasant stay. Easy access to Dundee and many of the surrounding areas for any golf enthusiasts.

    « Wee gem »

Sadly we only had one night at this hotel and arrived after 9pm so didnt even try the leisure facilities, they looked nice though. The room was on the top floor so lots of steps, not for the less able but we were offered help with our luggage. The room itself was nice, clean and fresh. We had a couple of drinks in the bar, nice atmosphere and well priced. Breakfast was busy but ample. Well worth a visit.

    « Incredible »

We stayed in the ?Wyldes? room - the best room we have ever stayed in. It was an enormous kingsize room with two chair beds for our two boys. It had a wee table and chairs and a comfortable chair as well. The bathroom had a beautiful modern big bathtub and a big shower. The room had everything we needed and more! The omelets were so tasty and the rest of the breakfast. We sat at the bar area which was lovely and tastefully decorated. The staff was so friendly, helpful and kind!

    « Spa weekend »

We had treatments booked one at 2pm and the other one was 3 15pm I was the later one so I went to the bar and ordered a sandwich it was lovely the staff were brilliant they were very helpfull. I really enjoyed my treatment thank you Christine hope to see you again Our evening meal was great good size portions well presented and value for money and again the staff were great also great choice for breakfast well done everybody at woodlands hotel.we got a really good sleep it was lovely and quiet. « Restaurant Review Only - Fantastic »

We visited the restaurant on 28-Mar-18 for my daughter's birthday (4 of us in total). The staff were so friendly and helpful, and hid the birthday cake my mum had bought for my daughter. The prawn cocktail was lovely, nice and light sauce. My aunt and I had the balti and I would say it was the only thing I would mark the restaurant down for as it tasted a bit "Uncle Ben's" if that makes sense but it was still very nice and portion sizes spot on. My mum had fish and chips and she said it was lovely. My little girl had fish fingers, chips and beans, it would've been nice to have had the option of potatoes instead of chips but I got her a side of broccoli instead. My mum and aunt had the chocolate and salted caramel tart and both said it was absolutely amazing. The staff were so attentive and welcoming, from the assistant manager to the waiting staff. I could not recommend this restaurant more highly, we will definitely be back for lunch soon!

    3
    « Miserable staff »

The hotel was about right for a three star hotel, some of the decoration was however a little jaded. Beds, rooms and facilities available would have earned a higher rating as they are quite good. Food pretty much as expected nothing to write home about! The biggest let down or gripe is the miserable attitude of the staff who are employed to make you feel welcome. No acknowledgement unless they are greeted first, no smile and absolutely no how can I go beyond my duties to make you feel at home. I have stayed in best western hotels in various places in and out of the UK and this as far as customer care was poor. You don't enjoy your job then change. It.

    « Holiday visit »

    « Nice hotel but »

Nice hotel but spoilt by the attitude of staff the staff.rooms are abut dated but clean. I have stopped at this hotel about 5 times and every time have had issues with staff very suspicious about what you charge to your room. The last visit was asked for a debit card but told the girl on reception I didn't have one,was told I couldn't charge to my room even though we get an allowance. Asked to speak to the manager at which point she said we could but next time we stopped we would not be able to. No problem I won't be stopping here again. Stop treating people like they are going to charge stuff to there room and then do a runner

    « Weekend trip »

Nice hotel. Rooms clean and comfortable. Meal in the restaurant was good and good selection to choose from however the breakfast was not good at all... buffet system so food was cold/ Luke warm. This was a fair let down for our stay.

    « Very good value »

Quiet, clean, spacious rooms with very comfortable bed, quality bedding and fast wi fi. Excellent spa facilities with very helpful staff. If travelling with children be aware of the adults only times at the pool.

« Great couple of nights stay »

What a great couple of nights my wife and I enjoyed recently at the Woodlands hotel. We booked the hotel via the Best Western website for an excellent bed and breakfast rate. Prior to arrival I contacted Nikki Robertson (General Manager) with some questions and for suggestions re things to do locally and she responded very quickly and could not have been more helpful. We arrived at the hotel at around 6pm on the Friday evening and it was actually Nikki who checked us in. This was very swift and Nikki provided us with all the information we required about the hotel and also volunteered to call us a taxi into town if we didnt fancy the 20 minute walk. Our room was really nice and comfortable and just one flight of stairs away from the restaurant and bar. After getting ready for the evening we made our way to the bar for a few drinks . The bar has an excellent selection of drinks at very reasonable prices and the bar staff were extremely polite and friendly. The following morning I made full use of the leisure facilities which were really good. Clean and in full working order. Breakfast was an absolute treat. Most items are from the buffet but you can order other items direct from the kitchen. The choice and quality of food available was excellent. The second nights stay and following morning were pretty much the same as above and we have no complaints at regarding our stay. Our only regret is that we never actually ate in the restaurant other than breakfast. Maybe next time. The hotel has lovely well kept gardens and is in peacful residential area of town. It's only a 5/10 minute walk to the seafront and as mentioned earlier 20 minutes into the centre of Broughty Ferry. The sea front offers amazing views and is great for a walk around on a nice day. Broughty Ferry itself is great wee town with many shops bars and restaurants. I also found the locals to be very friendly. This was our first strip to Broughty Ferry and to the Woodside hotel but it sure wont be our last. Big thanks to Nikki and all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable.

    « Valentines meal »

Enjoy a lovely meal here for Valentines. Disappointed they have done away with the 2 course and 3 course menu, but nevertheless we enjoyed our delicious meals. Service was great, and a nice relaxing atmosphere. If we hadn't been working the next day a liqueur coffee in the bar to round off the meal would have been great. Keep up the good work!

    « Plumbers ball »

Great night had by all, food excellent and band good, waiters and waitresses did a fantastic job.good prizes to be won also, looking forward to next years, hopefully back at the woodlands,so we can have a great time.

    « Very nice hotel »

I thought this hotel was really nice. Pleasantly surprised. Nice bedroom and big comfortable bed. We didn't bother going out and had drinks and a meal in the hotel which we both enjoyed. Breakfast was also good. The hotel seemed busy but we didn't have to wait or queue.

    « Wonderful Relaxing Break »

Stayed at the Woodlands Hotel for a few days last week with my wife, had a wonderful relaxing break. Loved everything about the hotel, the staff, the restaurant, the room - all superb. We usually look out for Best Western hotels wherever we decide to go, this one is a gem. Will certainly be back to stay again, would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for quality accommodation and service at a very reasonable price

    « Good experience »

Room was great, service at reception was goid and the food in the restaurant was nice. We didn't have time to use the pool but it looked great. The only downside to our stay was that we weren't warned that there would be several Christmas parties taking place whike we were there. The guests were fine and were mostly in the function room but it made it difficult to use the bar and after visiting family in the area we could not find a parking space on our return. That said I woukd visit again . Good value for money and very clean

    « School break »

Hotel nice, leisure facilities superb , bar was OK too and breakfasts were nice also . We were in room for three but had to ask for bed sheets for pull out sofa bed which was very very uncomfortable but the staff helped stay comfortable and suggested splitting the big bed to singles, but second night great till workmen started with cutting tools and shouting orders at each other. Just unlucky I guess !! .will visit again as we enjoyed our visit to broughty ferry .next time a higher score . Thanks Sylvia. Dot. and Bebbie oh and Louisiana .

    « Un helpful staff »

Was very disappointed staying here for the weekend, a wedding was on , bar was overcrowded no seats all taken up by wedding party , when we asked to sit in empty restaurant, was told it's not possible. We complain at reception , then they said it would be possible to sit in there . Our room was above kitchen and smelled of fish and chips at night, in the morning smelt of breakfast. Shower didn't run hot and the sink was blocked . When we brought this up on check out . All they said it was to late to complain we should have told them last night and all they could do was say sorry . I've stayed here in the past , unfortunately this time was not a good experience and hotel seems run down a bit , only interested in wedding party's .

    « EXCELLENT WEEKEND »

Thouroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The staff were efficient and very friendly, hotel and spa spotlessly clean and the food was lovely. Buffet breakfast had plenty variety for everyone. Will definately go back.

    « A few days off »

The hotel is very comfortable the staff were very helpful through out and the hotel was extremely clean, the meals were good at a reasonable price. I would have liked to have seen tablecloths and side plates on the restaurant tables as this gave the wrong impression which given the quality of the meals was a shame The bar was well stocked and the hotel has a nice swimming pool. Our room was perfectly functional. We had a handicap room the bathroom was one of the best equip I have come across with a fully equip wet room. the room was warm throughout and the blackout curtains provided a darkened environment. Tea and coffee was plentiful. Overall a good experience, Would I recommend this hotel certainly

    5
« Lovely last minute overnight stay! »

My partner and I decided on staying here as a last minute thing, so glad we did! Hotel was lovely (only downside is that we had an executive room which I wouldn't have necessarily classed as an exec room, more of a standard room), lovely breakfast the next day, leisure facilities were great! We will definetly be back!

    5
« Always excellent customer service , staff are always welcoming and helpful. »

We use this hotel regularly. As above we can't fault this well run hotel. The leisure facilities are excellent with a warm good sized pool jacuzzi steam room and sauna . There is also a well equipped gym. The breakfasts great giving plenty of variety for all tastes. I recommend the poached eggs. The dinner menu is well varied and food is delicious at a reasonable price. We were in a large room in the New build which overlooks a quiet landscaped garden. Everything is spotless and there appears to be a good team of cleaner. The General Manager Nikki is the best. Nothing is too much for her.

    5
« Good room, great staff »

Thoroughly enjoyed my two-night stay at Woodlands. The staff are all very attentive and helpful and my room (205) looked out over a patio area. I would not hesitate to stay there again and, if I had had more time, I would certainly have used the spa and pool which looked very inviting.

    2
« Dont expect to eat »

Visited at the weekend for 2 nights . Arrived Friday , rooms ok though narrow and went to dinner . No problem Second night Saturday - came back from shopping and asked if there was any specific time we could come down for dinner . I was flexible and I didn't stipulate any time - I was willing to fit in We are fully booked was the reply .Outside on Saturday dreadful weather and going back out was hazardous . I felt this was unreasonable and as a resident I stated I thought they would keep some tables for those staying The very abrupt manager who insisted on talking over me told me an email would have been sent you 5 days ago saying that you had to book 4 days in advance for dinner I pointed out that no email had been received ( and I double checked my trash and spam later to verify ) and when I ate on Friday no mention was made of this supposed procedure. But she was having none of it I have visited this hotel numerous times over the past 2 years as has my sister and her family , and my daughter and are family and this has never been the case before In any case as the hotel knew this I just felt they might go the extra little bit for a valued customer . But no the manager who I have never seen before was having none of it , and the valued cust6omer bit wasn't on her radar and despite recovering from a broken ankle I had to go 2/3 mile to get a meal . HOWEVER the most galling part was that I had a look in the dining room before I left at 8.40 to find that at least 8 tables were empty and they were hardly over run On checking out the next day I watched as the same manager demanded that a customer who had paid on a voucher for her Dinner, Bed and Breakfast pay a balance of 50p before leaving . This older lady seemed mightily embarrassed by this unnecessary demand so I would recommend if you want customer service , don't want to be embarrassed and not go hungry then find another hotel as you are not valued at this one. The loss is theirs as 3 families wont be visiting again

    « Lovely Stay »

We have been to the Woodlands a number of times and have always enjoyed our stay there. We had a little problem with the temperature of the room we were given, but the staff went out of their way to rectify this for us. We were given an upgrade to one of the rooms in the newest part of the hotel. This room was very comfortable, and the temperature was perfect! All the staff we encountered were very friendly and professional. We had a dip in the pool which was nice and quiet. We enjoyed our evening meal: the menu was varied, so there's something for everyone. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful: everything was very freshly made. We will definitely be back again.

Very impressed with this hotel ??It was ideal for the local shops & not too far from a wedding venue we were going to. I would definitely stay there again. First experience of BW but certainly won't be the last

    « Just average »

Stayed for 2 nights to finish our Christmas shopping in Dundee which we do every year. First time in this hotel. The service from start to finish was perfect, all of the staff are very helpful. The room was comfortable and the bed was huge. The cost for 2 nights was only £150. The hotel is dated and the breakfast- well to say average would be being kind! But a good location for a drive into Dundee. No real complaints but I'm not sure we would stay again.

    « Mid week break »

Although we had terrible weather we still managed to enjoy our break lovely staff and my Husband and myself enjoyed the facilities, pool steam room etc Lovely breakfast and dinner was very good a lovely big room warm and bed very comfortable Altogether we shall be making a return trip, hope the weather will be on our next visit

    « Comfortable and Friendly »

Hotel is located in Broughty Ferry near Dundee. Large car park amongst trees. Very convenient for walking down to Esplanade and the centre. Room was comfortable, with large shower room, but no bath .. shame. Plenty channels on TV. One complaint about the room was listening to loud banging doors, on other rooms, till late evening. Think they need to sort out their ?soft closing' a bit better. Breakfast was buffet style with a good choice although some dishes could have been refilled a bit quicker. Eggs, to your choice, were ordered separately Guide dog training was taking place while we were there, with owners being introduced to their dogs. Fascinating to watch. Can't comment on evening meals as we didn't have any.

    2
    « Weekend Away »

Went for a w/end away (Nov 17) with another couple, our room was smaller but comfortable enough. Sat down in the chair by window only to move away fairly quickly because of the drought coming in! Which was nothing compared to next door who had an Arctic gale that was flowing through because of a broken window. Reception came up with a small heater BUT surely someone must have known about this problem before putting a guest in the room. We had a evening meal in the restaurant which was nothing outstanding but ok. The breakfast buffet was again fairly standard but I'm afraid the same could not be said about the breakfast omelette:- it was swimming in oil/fat and was a sickly shade of green on the underside! Ok it is supposedly a only a 3star hotel but there seems to be a need for improvement in the running of it. The staff were friendly and attentive but do something about the rooms.

    3
« Breakfast seating was unorganised »

Just returned from an overnight break, staff at reception and bar area were helpful and friendly. We booked an executive double room which was no where near executive and the mattress is needing thrown in the skip it was rock hard and so uncomfortable, worse part of the stay was queuing up to be seated for breakfast, we waited 10-15 mins. They told us when we checked in that the hotel was very busy, so why were they not prepared for the amount of guests that were booked in ? The room and the disorganisation wasted our stay

    4
    « Disappointing meal »

The description of the Rosemary roasted chicken on a bed of mustard mash and vegetables sounded very appetising so I was surprised when my plate arrived with a very bland dish of potatoes with a chicken breast on top covered with an opinion gravy and surrounded by three small broccoli heads. There was no flavour of rosemary on the chicken which in itself was quite tasteless however this could have been due to the amount of onion in the gravy killing all other flavours. The mustard mash was not bad however much less on the plate would have sufficed. On the whole a very disappointing meal to which the staff apologied and offered a 15% discount which amounted to just under £2! This had been a birthday treat for my husband.

    5
    « Excellent »

Great, clean and well run hotel. They accommodated a large group of us very well. there were no issues and we found the stay very pleasant, the breakfast was very good, the overall pricing was good and the hotel itself was a lovely and clean place. very polite and understanding staff who work hard to allow you to enjoy your stay.

    4
    « Business trip for 3 nights »

Nice clean hotel with welcoming staff. Menu is quite small but overall an acceptable quality, more home cooking than anything but tasty. Overall a good base and a nice place to stay as I have found most Best Western Hotels to be poor.

    5
    « Great Hotel »

Great room, great food & drink, great staff with great service. Mansion house front contains reception, bar and restaurant with modern rear building containing bedrooms. Forgot cozzy so didn't use leisure facilities, but looked good.

    « Lovely place »

As the previous reviews state, this is an immaculately clean and cared for hotel. The staff are so pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was plentiful, varied and hot. The dinner was excellent. Broughty Ferry was a surprise. Great little shops and pubs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend a visit.

    « Great little place »

Only stayed the one night but premises and staff very nice indeed. Hotel is set in very nice quiet surroundings and has excellent onsite facilities, amazing buffet breakfast prior to leaving as well. Would certainly not hesitate in returning.

« Great hotel and friendly staff »

This is a very clean, comfortable and friendly hotel, which is finished to a high spec. The staff are great and the female member of staff that dealt with me both over the phone to make reservation 2hrs before I travelled there as well as when I arrived, could not have been more friendly and efficient. The rooms service food was delicious and really good value. I would stay there again in a New York minute.

    « Pleasant stay »

Stayed here for only 1 night but would return happily. Room immaculate and well presented as was corridor /function areas. Garden team were working hard sweeping up leaves as well which was nice touch. Staff helpful. Pool / leisure facilities were pretty good although some of the wood areas showing signs of wear /moisture around the pool area.(being picky!). Breakfast choice good. Bit limited dinner menu though but good attention to allergies and very accomodating in relation to meal modifications. Nice quiet area too. Beds very comfy - even slept in!

    « Very enjoyable stay »

My husband, son and I stayed for 4 nights recently and were very happy with the hotel, service and food. Our room was a really good size for 3 people and we were served quickly and efficiently at breakfast and dinner each day.

    « 2 day break »

On arrival at this beautiful hotel ,we were greeted by a very friendly and helpful receptionist ,who checked us in explaining times of dining room ,pointed out to us fire exits , very mannerly in her approach. Checking into our room we were overwhelmed with the decor, outlook , very comfortable room . Had a beautiful lunch in the bar ,where we were greeted by a charming young barmaid who asked us if we would like to eat in dining room or relax in the bar . Spent few hours in the leisure ,swimming ,and in the gym , again greeted by a charming young girl who spoke with us explained the rules of the gym ,showed us how to get the treadmill up and running , This hotel sits in a very quiet secluded area of Broughty Ferry ,within walking distance to the beach .

My wife and I spent 2 lovely nights in the hotel and found the staff were very helpful and couldn't do enough for you and the rooms and the corridors etc were very clean. We had dinner both nights and the meals didn't disappoint. The breakfast was a buffet and there was plenty of choice both for hot and cold. The leisure facilities are very good so all in all we had a very pleasant few days

    « Romantic night away »

We were greeted by a wedding party waiting for the bride to return from photographs... unfortunately as we were walking in and looked back there they were.... not very nice arriving at a hotel with your suitcase in tow and having to make your way past a load of wedding guests. Receptionist was helpful enough, but never mentioned the wedding, which we later found she really should have advised us when it was due to end as it was very noisy in our room with it being right underneath us! Room was very small, and had a new carpet which was quite smelly and made it hard to push open the door. The shower was HORRENDOUS, worst I have ever experienced in a hotel by far. It was a very cool trickle and did not get any better at any time of the day and night... we ended up going to the pool to shower there. We also had a problem with our toilet, every time we flushed it the water came right up to the rim which was quite alarming. Breakfast was nice, plenty choice. Was nice to have the pool, but it wasn't exactly luxurious and would not make me stay here again! I was advised they had nicer rooms but were fully booked, I don't think I would go back to find out.

    « October overnight stay »

Overnight stay at the Woodlands hotel. Booked via My Hotel Break website. Friendly reception on arrival. We had room 122 which was a upstairs room, the room was clean and tidy, had a window but with a view of the roof. The room was compact with a small en suite. the shower was very poor with a slow run of water, think the shower door needs a new seal as leaked water over the floor. We used the pool and spa area and was a nice treat. We did not eat at the Hotel in the evening but came back early in the evening and had a few drinks in the bar area which has a relaxed feeling and staff very welcoming. The breakfast was a buffet style with a good selection of cooked breakfast as well as the continental breakfast. checkout was 11am. for the money paid it was a nice break.

    « Dunhill Cup »

We had a three night stay to go to the Dunhill Cup. We found the hotel to be very good, excellent rooms in the new extension, very comfortable, lovely bathroom and amenities. We were not bothered by noise despite two weddings taking place. The food was very good, dinner was excellent , good service and very good choice of food. Wine maybe not so good. Equally, breakfast was fresh, lots of choice and I don't think anyone could complain about the standard of food on offer for breakfast. Shout out to Cody who was a very good and attentive waiter. If you asked him for coffee it was there in a flash. Thank you to all at The Woodlands for helping to make our brilliant trip up to Scotland and The Dunhill Cup a great experience!

    « A lovely Hotel in a Great Location »

The hotel is located in a very quiet area. We had a four night stay - Dinner, Bed and Breakfast. The room was in a new section of the hotel and very clean and smart, with tea making facilities, Wifi and TV. The hotel has a pool, jacuzzi and gym; all of which we took advantage of. The food in the restaurant was very good and all the staff went out of their way to make our stay pleasurable. The hotel is located in easy reach of Broughty Ferry and Dundee city centre, either by car or bus. We will certainly stay there again.

    « Birthday Weekend »

Husband and i stayed here for the weekend. We had a double room looking onto the front entrance, with the window open there was quite a lot of chatter coming from the smokers outside. Busy with wedding and parties in full swing when we arrived. We had to walk through a large group of smokers loitering at the front door. Staff friendly and attentive to our needs and we were advised of pool times and wifi code. Our room was clean and tidy with a large firm bed. We had a good nights sleep. Breakfast was plentiful nothing special. We had chosen this hotel as we wanted to explore Dundee and surrounding area. The locus was ideal for this. It is a busy family friendly hotel and not particularly quiet. l

    « Wedding »

We had our wedding at the woodlands hotel on the 6th of October, We had the most wonderful day everything was perfect from the start to finish and it was down to the staff they went all out to make sure everything went smoothly. Nothing was a problem even cleaning my dress when i got mud on the train. We had soup, steak pie and banoffee cheesecake for our meal and everyone was saying how much they enjoyed the food. Would just like to say thank you for everything from mrs and Mr Smith.

« Great Hotel in lovely location »

The Woodlands Hotel in Broughty Ferry has been my place (choice) of residence mid-week for the last 6 months, so I am well placed to provide a review. The staff (Aga, Laura, Pam, Sylvia & John)make this hotel with their friendly and most helpful manner, nothing is too much trouble for them. PS sorry if I've missed anyone. The hotel has undergone a huge transformation with no expense spared on the extension and rooms (large TV's wall mounted, tastefully decorated bedroom and large shower and ensures) within this area which my colleagues and I have have named the ?West Wing' On the few occasions I have stayed in the original hotel rooms, it is clear that these rooms are a little tired and could do with a refurbishment but I must stress that these are always very clean. I am sure that through time the hotel will spend the money to bring the hotel up to the same high standard throughout as no business has an endless budget. I have only eaten in the hotel on a handful of occasions and the food and service was always good, however, there are so many great places to eat in Broughty Ferry that you are spoiled for choice really. The hotel has a swimming pool and health suite facilities which are excellent, however, the gym is quite compact and always seemed to be busy every time I went with locals who are not necessarily residents of the hotel. Thanks to the staff for looking after myself, my team and my family who visited on a couple of occasions for your excellent service. Highly recommended for business or pleasure. Keep up the good work and I will definitely return. Cheers John

    « Lovely 2 day stay »

Just returned from a 2 day stay on a deal dinner, bed and breakfast in a king bedded room. We were room 201 in the new Abercromby Wing. The room was very modern and spacious with a lovely large walk-in shower. It was on the ground floor overlooking a courtyard with shrub area and wooden seats. On arriving, we were quickly checked-in and given directions to our room. There was a wedding on as it was a Saturday. We had luckily phoned ahead to book our dinner for the 2 nights, as advised. The diningroom was very busy on the Saturday night but service was prompt. The menu was varied, nicely presented and serving staff very helpful and polite. Breakfast had a large selection of cereals, fresh and dried fruits, yoghurt, cereal bars, bread, and preserves. You had to make your own toast but the staff brought coffee or tea. Usual selection of hot buffet items all freshly prepared with scrambled eggs. Other eggs could be made if required. We did not try the leisure facilities so cannot comment. Did not hear any noise from the wedding or guests from our room. Only one problem with our room- the heat. A fan was provided but with the fan on and windows open (as far as the security locks would allow) the temperature did not fall below 23. I know this is a problem in a lot of hotels. It did not affect my husband as he can sleep anytime, anywhere!!! It did affect myself which was a shame as the kingsize bed was comfortable. Taking our 2 days as a whole it was very relaxing and enjoyable and we would like to thank all the staff for their hard work.

    « Weekend away stay »

Lovely hotel, located in a quiet, up-market residential area of Broughty Ferry. We had a spacious family room in the Abercrombie wing. Looked newly decorated and furnished with good quality fitments....no complaints about the room at all. Used the swimming pool (with jacuzzi, steam room and sauna too)....we like a family friendly hotel with good leisure facilities. There is a gym also, which looked well equipped, although we never used it. Hotel was very busy during our stay and the bar area seemed to struggle to provide sufficient seats (the weather wasn't good enough to allow us to sit outside). We had dinner, bed and breakfast for 2 nights. The evening meals were very good - nice choice and large portions. We all really enjoyed our meals. Waiting staff were mostly polite but evening service could be much improved....simply by someone managing the staff better. Breakfast on both mornings was pretty much chaos and disappointingly handled by whoever is in charge...improvements really need to be made there. We would certainly return to the hotel.

    « Great hotel »

This hotel like a lot of best western hotels in the UK are old manor homes and they are amazing. Beautiful old home that had been tastefully converted and added onto to be made into a hotel. Nice large room, gym, pool and relaxing bars and restaurant. Would recommend.

« Very tired and pricey »

The hotel is rated as 3 star but falls way below that on the standard of accommodation and the food served . The staff are pleasant enough but not too happy. The drinks measures are very small but the prices are high. The food seems to be re-heated and pre-prepared. I believe it is time for a total refurbishment.

    « Great Hotel - Great Food »

This was our fourth visit to this hotel. Great room, with plenty of space to relax and a desk where I could complete my crosswords. The restaurant is excellent, with plenty of choice. It's a great place to stay and I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

    « Never Again »

A lovely old property, previously a home, then used during the war to treat injured forces personnel, eventually taken over as a hotel. Very disappointed when we went to our room, the bed was the smallest "double" I have ever slept in. So small that even the pillows hung over the side of the bed. My sister-in-law and husband's bed was the same and in the end they gave up and one slept on the floor and the other in the bed. The cleaners were good and we received clean towels everyday, however, one day we went to use the large towels and they smelt of cocoa and not very white, we did complain. Sadly, we had to reduce the rating because the cleaning staff left our door propped open the day before we left. Reception weren't phased when told, apparently no-one had booked into our floor that day! The hotel has a spa, gym and pool, so anyone could wander round any part of the hotel. Fortunately we didn't lose anything. The admin wasn't much better. We booked using our Tesco vouchers for 6 nights and paid for a further 3 nights ourselves. After the 6th night our door cards wouldnt work. Reception then said we should have left, on checking they realised that we were booked in for the last 3 days. The restaurant staff were lovely though. xx

« Back to an old family favourite »

We've been visiting this hotel for over forty years and it just gets better and better. The restaurant couldn't have been more accommodating when we asked for changes in the menu dishes. Everything was well presented and, although the restaurant was busy on a Saturday night, service was friendly and prompt. Our accommodation was clean, warm and comfortable and the Spa and pool are excellent. Great place to stay.

    « Great Stay »

Another great stay in this hotel. Very comfortable. Staff are friendly and helpful, as usual. The room was wheelchair accessible. I've stayed here before and found it easy to get around. One problem is the front entrance door, which is in two halves - not wide enough for wheelchair access and they're heavy. The wheelchair accessible spaces are not wide enough. Having said that I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again

    « Good Hotel »

We think that this hotel is very good, the staff are excellent, we were however let down with our room this time, do not book room 219, it was very hot as the heater for the swimming pool is right outside the window, it also keeps going on and off all the time so it is really noisy as well. Last time we were in room 213 which is excellent.

« My go to Hotel in Dundee »

I work away 2 weeks per month with business, I regularly visit this hotel and feel that they need the praise where praise is due. Staff, facilities and location are excellent. Let me tell you why!! Reception - very personable, helpful, professional and accommodating. Staff - I have room service and nothing is too much trouble at all, meals are excellent. Breakfast - obviously amazing - very relaxed and accommodating. Leisure facilities - Everything one would need in a gym adequate cardio and extensive weight room, my only critique would be - not a lot of steam in the steam room. All in all a fantastic hotel, great room, great facilities and a big shout out to John who was 10 out of 10 for customer service.

    « Luncheon venue »

We had a return visit to the restaurant for lunch, pre-booking is advised, service is smooth and efficient, good table settings and a reasonable choice of main courses and sweets. There is free parking in the hotel grounds.

Lovely hotel. Great setting. Food was good and wedding was well organised. My only complaint would be the rooms were very warm but each room had an electric fan available. Comfy beds and helpful staff.

    « Ferry Good Hotel »

My husband and I attended a Golden Wedding at the Woodlands Hotel and stayed overnight. We knew this hotel from very many years ago when we lived locally and were well impressed with the hotel as it is now. The room we were in was in a new extension and was very comfortable and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was the usual buffet with rather insipid scrambled eggs but a fried egg was speedily produced on request. It would have been nice to have tea/coffee readily available as the staff on duty were kept busy and weren't always there when needed but a minor irritation in an otherwise lovely stay. We would have no hesitation in staying there again and in recommending it to others.

    « Superb Hotel »

Just returned from a night in this superb hotel. Staff were amazing in every way. We stayed on Saturday night. There was a Wedding on. That was great to see too. We had room 214. The room was superb. Whilst hotel does not have air con we had a fan in our room. We had dinner in restaurant. Food was first class as was breakfast. Look forward to our next stay.

« Best of the Rest »

Have stayed in the Woodlands Hotel a few times now. It is in an ideal location for touring around and also for the golf at St.Andrews and Carnoustie. It is also excellent for weddings and I can vouch for that 100% as I was married there myself just last year and the organisation and professionalism were 2nd to none in all areas of the Hotel.

    « A little gem »

A warm welcome awaited us on arrival and the staff were always friendly and helpful. The bar and restaurant were exceptional and the leisure pool and gym were an added bonus. The Rooms were very comfortable. A great location in the heart of Angus.

    « Disappointing »

It was immediately apparent that the room (124) was unbearably hot. There was a fan provided but even with the fan running and the large window wide open I struggled to keep the temperature below 26C (yes I did have a gadget with an accurate thermometer with me). The bed, and even worse the pillows were very hard. The decor was tired and sadly in need of redoing. Worse still, the shower was so poor I had to leave washing my hair until I was aboard the ferry to Lerwick the following evening. The evening meal was only adequate and the breakfast mediocre. Given this was a Best Western Hotel I was very disappointed. The only saving grace was that the staff were lovely, pleasant and helpful.

    « Happy but disappointed »

When we first checked in we were greeted by a lovely lady behind the reception desk, she couldn't of been more welcoming! The room was lovely with a Queen bed. The leisure facilities were great too. However we tried to get a massage but couldn't get hold of the therapist. We had dinner on the first night which was included in our deal, however my partner got a stake, which was lovely but added 6 pound on to our bill. We wouldn't of minded this however we weren't told about it until my partner had already had his dinner. This annoyed us. We felt like we were getting looked down apon the rest of our trip as the lady behind the reception desk was very snooty and posh. Over all good we had a good time but let down by staff. Not the best best western.

« Went back the following weekend!!! »

We love the Woodlands Hotel. We spent a weekend here at Easter with family: 8 adults and 5 kids and it was great location, great pool and facilities, super rooms. Phoning the hotel was better than online booking as they could recommend the right rooms and options and get us close together. We returned as a family of 3 for a weekend on our way south and had an equally great time. The breakfast was good, staff lovely from cleaners to bar staff to front desk. They were friendly to our 3 yr old an he loved it. We had a disappointing stay elsewhere that week and decided to round off with one more night back at the woodlands. It saved our holiday. We phoned and were given a discount! As well as now choosing where in the hotel to be (we like the Abercrombie wing as it's more modern). The staff welcomed us and remember our son's name. It was absolutely brilliant and we will definitely be back soon! The place was clean, good dinner menu, good bar stock, clean facilities in the pool/gym/changing. Thanks!!!

« A real disappointment, watch your head. »

We were married at the Woodlands 25 years ago today. We decided to stay the night to celebrate the event in the room with the four poster bed. Sadly the plaster on the ceiling was about to fall on top of us (see pic) and we were moved to a generic travelodge style room which was adequate but defeated the object. Speaking to the manager this morning she was aware of the issue but surprisingly hadn't inspected the room herself. I'd imagine with the health of her customers being paramount, she would have done this. The manager, pre Best Western , was extremely hands on with the needs of his clients and I guess it's symptomatic of large chains losing that personal touch. As apologetic as they were and a refund of £50, a disappointment to us. Try harder Best Western, you have cleaners and managers to inspect your rooms, look up occasionally.

    « Wonderful »

We had a lovely weekend break at The Woodlands Hotel. The amenities are first class, the room we had was excellent. The food was also fantastic. The location was quiet and secluded but yet only a short drive to the centre of Broughty Ferry where there are numerous cafes and small boutique shops also not far from the centre of Dundee. This was our first visit but not our last.

    « We shall return »

This small to medium sized hotel is located in a beautiful wooded setting and has generous car parking, newly furnished and immaculate rooms as well as a gym, swimming pool, sauna, a bar and separate restaurant. The level of comfort is very high and the standard of cleanliness and attention to detail are equally good. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our two day break, which was reasonably priced and greatly helped by a superb buffet breakfast and very pleasant staff. We will definitely return in the not too distant future.

« Friendly staff well worth the money. »

Exellant recteptionist, full of useful information, great swimming pool very good breakfast, in nice surroundings, only negative the hairdryer in the room was a bit past its best. All the staff were very friendly creating a lovely atmosphere.

    « Nice »

Nice hotel. Different bits to chose from in the breakfast department. Lots of rooms within the hotel. Good views and in a nice area. Is a quite hotel which is good. It is a big hotel. There isn't a lot of parking. To get the hotel you have to go up a big heal. Wheelchair accessible. Definitely worth going.

    « Well worth a visit »

First of all,I do not tend to overscore anything so a 3 from me should not be considered low. We were in room 113 which did not have a great view but this was a deal. The room was perfectly adequate and clean and more than acceptable. Breakfast was as expected and was very good. The dining room can get very busy especially following a wedding but no great issue. The buffet works well. Had dinner one night and again this was good. Did not use spa as we were working to a schedule but others were in and it looked ok. If there is a guest lounge I did not find it but did not bother us particularly. Hotel set in nice grounds more like a country estate although Dundee only 10 mins away by car and lots to do there. Could not fault the staff. Full marks. All in all, a nice small friendly hotel which is well situated and well worth a visit

My son and his fiance booked the Woodlands for their wedding reception. The venue and food were excellent. staff well trained and very efficient. « Fantastic »

Myself and my sister in law stayed for one night with our children. We had adjoining rooms which made it easier for the cousins to play . The rooms were immaculate and to a very high standard . The facilities in the hotel were great for the kids - a pool In the hotel and a play park round the corner meant they had lots to do . The food at dinner and breakfast lovely with a great choice . However the best thing about the hotel is the staff ... Sylvia at reception was brilliant, she really helped us get the best deal and also made us all feel very welcome when we checked in . The staff in the restaurant were also brilliant. In particular Jodie and Billy were great with the kids and couldn't do enough for us . I can't recommend this hotel highly enough.

« Stayed for 2 weeks Great area 5 mins walk from Broughty Ferry »

Good Hotel with good onsite facilities. The gym, pool sauna are all welcome after a days work. Certain parts of hotel can become rowdy at weekends due to weddings and functions. The food is not great portions small and same menu everyday. Only the specials would change sometimes. The best meal was breakfast. The bacon could be doing with being cooked properly otherwise the rest including omletes were nice. One other small complaint was that when rooms were being replenished no biscuits or cookies were ever replaced. Area is very nice and only 5 minutes walk from the town and beach.

    4
    « Nice hotel »

If you get a top floor room remember to ask for help carrying the luggage as steps are too steep and if you're carrying heavy loads it's complicated! Nice hotel apart from that. Restaurant staff a bit rough, not extremely friendly to put it that way, but otherwise front desk staff really helpful, nice and professional (Sylvia). The swimming pool (leisure area as they call it, including sauna and gym) is great, free access and a nice swim after a long day hiking is just a bit of heaven on earth... Free parking, nice buffet breakfast... I wouldn't hesitate in booking again at the Woodlands if I ever stop at Dundee again.

    « Good hotel »

This is a perfectly good hotel, standard class for a best western. Located a bit away from anything else. Very quiet and peaceful. All staff were very kind and friendly, we were offered an upgrade on check in as we joined the Best Western loyalty scheme: the room (new wing) was very good, beds comfortable, top notch shower, tea and coffee facilities, good wifi. Breakfast buffet was normal, though nothing special. Shame there were no kippers as Arbroath is so nearby! Overall very good value. If you want a quiet room with step free access then 205 is recommended. Note - room swipe cards are the old type that demagnetise easily if you put them near a phone or ipad!

« Great hotel, good food, recommended! »

Stayed here for a couple of nights using the hotel as a base for touring round on motorbikes. Plentiful parking. Great menu choices both for evening meals & breakfast. Comfy bed. The hotel hairdryer didn't work but a replacement was provided. Not a great deal of drawer storage but able to make do for the short time we were there. Would stay here again!

« Comfy beds and friendly staff »

We spent a few nights here recently. Laura and Aga on reception were extremely friendly and helpful. They made us feel very welcome and took time to explain the local area and areas of interest. We booked our stay through a third party and were a little disappointed with our rooms. We later found out if we had booked directly with the hotel we would have been put in the nicer rooms. Our rooms were dated and very basic. They were also on level 2 with no lifts. However, Laura on reception did advise that she could help with our bags should we need it. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. There are no complimentary toiletries in the room, only a hair and body wash dispenser in the shower. There was no bath in any room, only a shower. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious with a great selection. Staff again were helpful and friendly. The buffet breakfast had a huge selection and catered well for gluten free and vegetarian diets. The swimming pool is an added bonus and we went every day. Towels are available for residents too. We will be back but will book directly with the hotel to ensure we get the nicer rooms.

    « Small and Bijou »

Made to feel very welcome. All options etc were explained. My room was small but adequate. The bathroom was very decent size with a bath and shower. All very clean. My only comment would be that although I did have an opening window it was glazed glass, which was alright for a one night stay but any longer would have been a little claustrophobic.

    « Wedding day »

My wife and I got married here on the 29th of July and couldn't be more thankful towards the woodlands. The entire day went perfect. The staff were incredible, the hotel and it's facilities were second to none, the food was delicious. A large amount of us stayed for two nights and felt so relaxed and welcome. The organisation was great, all requests were met with no complaint, just the aim to please. All this put together made our big day magical in every way. We can't express our gratitude enough. We don't even live far from the woodlands but have already spoke of having a few weekend breaks there throughout the year as we enjoyed it so much. Thanks once again to the woodlands staff. « It's good but not very good! »

Nice location. Reception team very helpful. We stayed in a new-ish room. Was nice ,clean and normal accessories for a 3***. The only really picky item was under the heavy furniture the blue carpet made the dust stand out . Not that that would stop me recommending this hotel. Bed was comfortable room was quiet and a good size.Restaurant was also nice as were the staff. Food I thought was safe food, ie beef casserole, breaded fish, scampi, curry of the day. Rump steak 8oz will cost you over £22. Its basic food with a bit too high prices . Breakfast very good .Scottish strawberries I think and a good selection of all kinds of goodies. .All in all yes we would visit again nice hotel.

    « Excellent Hotel »

I stopped here for one night as part of a coach party the my room (101) is very large and spacious although parking can be a bit bothersome with all the tree sap in the morning. The Restaurant is very clean and well presented with fully attentive staff also the food was very good and well presented

« Seems good go me »

Arrived Sunday afternoon in brilliant sunshine. Very impressive entrance into hotel. Trees and woods must be a "fair" age. Reception staff well up to their jobs, explaining layout of hotel etc. Table for evening meal booked. Very busy, but professional bar and staff (wedding in full flow). Restaurant gave us perfect meal choices, served very quickly. First evening impressions are good. Breakfast buffet was above average with many immediate choices or ordered to your choice. Evening meal on second evening was to our choice, quickly served before "bus tour" arrived. We have enjoyed our stay and our free tickets to Glamis Castle.

    « Ups and Downs »

The Ups were that the room was clean and the food in the restaurant was good. The downs were that the room was very tired and in need of repair! There was paint peeling of one wall and wallpaper peeling of another. If you wanted to get into the bathroom you had to sidle in as when you opened the door it only opened a small space before it hit the sink and resulted in trapped fingers. You had to run the shower for two minutes before you stepped in. The toilet holder was hanging of the wall and we tried to open the bathroom window the pane was hanging out of it! We spoke to reception about in the morning but got little satisfaction. If we hadn't been going to a family party outwith the hotel and we had had more time we would not have stayed! The only reason we have given three stars is beacause of the ups and that the other staff were friendly and helpful. We wouldn't stay there again a real let down from other Best Western we have stayed at !.

« Poor attention to service. »

Booked in here for two nights on Dinner,B & B package in a executive room. The room was very large but just had a double bed which looked out of place in this size of room, bit like having a Range Rover with a lawn mower engine.Room was very hot even with windows open and fan on had a uncomfortable nights sleep.Evening meals were just average in both quality and choice.Service not great with different servers and no plate removal after sweets and no offer of coffee.Breakfast buffet was a shambles, came in at 09.15 both days very little orange juice, peeled fruit, etc. and not a large amount in lukewarm poor cooked selection. On second day opted for omelette which was very hot overcooked and bland. My wife ordered vegetarian sausages and two fried eggs, only got one small sausage, then later fried eggs came, why not serve both together as ordered.Went to make toast a 09.20 no bread left, asked for more but ate breakfast first when it was hot.Went back at 09.30 still no bread and asked again but told as it was 09.30 service was finished. Some round tables very small to fit on breakfast offering especially when cereal bowls are not cleared away at all.Asked for tea/coffee choice before even getting to table to look at breakfast menu, despite this server forgot to give us tea /coffee in a timely manner.Did not expect this poor standard again at a Best Western Hotel.

« The Best Best Western »

Stayed here on a Saturday evening after a visit to Forfar. The young staff on duty were polite, friendly, patient & helpful (even though there was a massive wedding reception in full flow!). We stayed in the Abercrombie Wing which is quite new, the room was clean, comfortable & quiet, which was most welcome. The décor is beautifully tasteful & the grounds are (as the name suggests) full of trees, like being tucked away in some woodland retreat. Parking facilities excellent & finally, we ate in the hotel restaurant - what an unexpected treat! Great value for an absolutely lovely meal, starter of crispy king prawns followed by perfectly cooked sea bass then sticky toffee pudding. Couldn't fault the waiting staff either, who were also very young - obviously very well trained & took pride in their job. This was our first stay here, & I'd have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to any of my friends.

Just returned from two nights stay.Beautiful hotel in a quiet location. Hotel was spotlessly clean and food was fantastic.Excellent selection at breakfast time.Really young staff but all were really friendly(the older members could learn a thing or two from them) There were functions on both nights but we didn't hear any noise at all.

    « Poor »

Terrible one night stay. Weren't advised on check in that there was a wedding on. The Ballroom/Disco was pretty much right outside our room. We complained and asked to be moved. Unhelpful staff a reception wouldn't do anything. It would be soooo easy to boo guests who are not members of functions into rooms away from the noisy entertainment, with members of functions in rooms closest to the noise. Ludicrous service. Won't ever be back.

« Hotel held event late into the night with music so loud it was impossible to sleep »

Terrible experience -loud music from an event held by the hotel itself made it impossible to sleep. Music was not turned down after calling the reception and was only told that we could be given ear plugs. Particularly disappointing given that we had chosen hotel due to quiet location out of town center

« Good if you have a vehicle »

Situated in nice parkland in Dundee's upscale Broughty Ferry are The Woodlands is an ideal choice for those who are driving. Reception staff were efficient, welcoming and quick. Room well appointed with a decent desk area and a realistically sized working TV. The bathroom was small but functional with a really good shower, but no bath. There is a leisure club with a pool onsite. Only downside was that it is a ten-fifteen minute drive from Dundee centre and five minutes by car if you want to visit 'downtown' Broughty for dinner. (See separate listing). Highly commended for a comfortable, straightforward stay in the Dundee area, The Woodlands is a pleasant Best Western with decent amenities and notably helpful staff, at realistic rates.

Hi Nikki We had our Golden Wedding lunch on 3 June. It was absolutely fantastic and all our guests were extremely complimentary also. Food was excellent and the service could not be faulted. Our room was excellent and we would not hesitate to recommend your hotel. We have attended several occasions in your hotel in the last few years and you have excelled yourselves for our special occasion. Thank you The Bruces and the Rosses.

My wife and I were here for friends wedding held at the hotel. Our room. was very spacious, with an awesome super-king-sized bed. Excellent facilities on offer including a gym and indoor pool. Very, very attentive and helpful staff. Great food in the restaurant, and the best buffet breakfast I've ever had.

« Great place to stay »

Warm and welcoming staff in all areas of the hotel - reception, wait staff, bartender, and housekeeping. Best hot buffet breakfast I've seen in a long time. Our room was quiet even with the windows open and there was plenty of room for our luggage. Convenient location for bus/train connections. The only drawback was smokers under the canopy by the main door in the rain and on the patio with the restaurant/bar doors open.

This is our second visit for my friends birthday with the kids and have had a fantastic time again and we will be making this an annual event as the kids love it and the staff are so helpful . Would recommend even if you want an adult weekend too.

I really enjoyed my stay there in Dundee. Very nice breakfast, friendly staff especially at the checkout. ...and not like in most other places - Internet worked really well there. I can really recommend to stay there. Thank you!

Room was absolutely immaculate and the staff were very welcoming. Enjoyed two comfortable nights sleeps. Would definitely return and recommend to anyone looking for a hotel in the area. My room must have been very recently refurbished because the decor and in particular the bathroom looked brand new and furnished to a high standard.

    « Sunday High Tea »

Many years ago I would go to this hotel for high tea. When we decided to go recently my wife asked if we should book. I said she must because, back in the day, you had to book a week in advance or be prepared to miss out on a table. We arrived early and the restaurant was quite empty but I was sure it would soon be bursting at the seams. It never happened. One indication as to why that might be, was that it was more expensive than other comparable high teas in the area. The service and the food was good. The kitchen did well for us and was attentive to food allergies we brought to their attention. The tea, cakes, scones etc were seriously disappointing compared to other local places we've been to. On the up side, the shortbread was excellent. The scones were small and not particularly soft or light. The cakes were small and not particularly exciting. A long time back this was the place to go if you wanted an amazing high tea. It's still good, just not as good as it once was and I guess that's a reason it's not nearly as busy as I had expected it to be.

    « Girls staycation »

I came home to Aberdeen from London to visit family and celebrate my birthday during first week of May. Myself, mum and sister decided to head to Broughty Ferry for a girls night away. We saw The Woodlands Hotel in the easy breaks magazine and were drawn in by the leisure facilities and good reviews online. The hotel was easy to find and the grounds were lovely. The hotel was nice and we were greeted by a friendly and helpful lady on reception. We could not fault the staff, the cleanliness of the hotel and location of the hotel. The hotel is however very dated and in dire need of a bit of modernising. I don't think we seen any guests under the age of 60 during our stay. Perhaps this is why the hotel hasn't been done up? The leisure facilities were nice and the room was adequate for our overnight stay. There were a lack of plug sockets in our room which was quite inconvenient for 3 adult females sharing a room (phone chargers, hairdryers, straighteners etc).

« Midweek break with spa therapies »

Just left the hotel after a 2 night stay. Very friendly staff throughout the hotel. Spacious bedroom with a big comfy bed. Dinner good and breakfast excellent. Good quality sausages etc. The lovely Christine did massages and reflexology that we booked in advance. Enjoyed little pool that was quiet during the day. Lovely sunny spots to sit outside and enjoy coffe or a drink in the sunshine. Very close to bars and restaurants and shops in Broughty Ferry. Dogs for the blind were being trained while we were there... nice to observe but very noisy as being trained in corridor outside our door, but they need to learn somewhere. We'll return.

I had not dined in the restaurant of the Woodlands Hotel for some time and was pleasantly surprised. Good choice of food at a reasonable price. The staff were welcoming and service was excellent. My wife and I recently held our wedding here on the 18th of March. We cannot praise the hotel enough for the huge success of the day. And in the weeks before, building up to the wedding . Everything that we asked for was not just met but in most cases exceeded. A very professional and friendly staff who all worked quietly and dilligently to give us a day that we will never forget .

« Lovely room in quiet setting »

Stayed in king size room in Abercrombie wing (opened in November 2016). Very comfy bed, pillows and duvet. Spotless room. Good breakfast. Very 'gluten free' friendly. Friendly helpful staff. 20 min walk from centre of Broughty Ferry where there are lots of bars and restaurants and lovely beaches. Imagine it's a popular wedding venue. Would go back if planning anything in this area.

« Service very poor (70 year old couples visit) »

Hi, just visited this hotel with our friends at the end of March. There service is very poor from none trained bar staff to not knowing what a red wine glass looks like. If you fancy brandy they only have one glass in the facility. On our last morning everybody received there breakfast except my husband who is still waiting for it. Nice place to go if you fancy the swimming. I wouldn't recommend

    « Restful break »

We stayed for six nights and came away feeling well cared for and relaxed. This was also helped by a full body massage from Christine. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food plentiful. If you plan to have a Scottish high tea forego lunch! An experience not to be missed. Great shower and comfy bed.

    « a jewel in the crown! »

My wife and I only stay in hotels, recommended on Trip Adviser and have never been let down. The Woodlands in Broughty Ferry, was no exception. Had a lovely room on the second floor, the choice and quality of food was par excellence and finished off, with the pleasantness of all the staff we came in contact with. The hotel is quietly situated in its own grounds, with plenty car parking spaces and with easy access to nearby towns such as Arbroath, Carnoustie and Dundee. We found that booking direct with the hotel, gave us the advantage over other websites, such as an upgraded room. With the advantage of a leisure centre (If required) we would thoroughly recommend this hotel, to anyone looking for a nice venue in Tayside - we'll be back!

    « Lovely staff. »

I stayed for a couple nights in this very pleasant hotel. It is in excellent attractive surroundings with plenty of parking space. The accommodation was very spacious and well lit. The lounge area was very comfortable and the health suite/swimming pool was very good and well maintained. Breakfast was good. The staff were all very friendly and attentive.

    « Relaxing Weekend Away »

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Food was good and the room was fine. The plus side is that it has a pool, steam room, sauna etc - lovely. My other half is not really a "fitness" person so he was quite happy in the bar with a pint !. The service in the restaurant was good on the Friday and Saturday nights, which were the busiest, but on the Sunday night I felt it could have been better. Overall it was a good hotel for Bed, Breakfast and three course evening meal.

« Fantastic break at woodlands hotel broughty ferry »

Book direct with hotle and got an upgrade to better room in new wing due to Best werterns points card. Our room was ace lovely and new very plush. The new wing has been well thought out and is decorated etc to a high standard We used the spa and pool which is kept clean and tidy to a high standard. really need the Jacuzzi and steam room etc as the weather outside was freezing Despite there being a large function on we never had any problems getting drinks in the bar with the bar staff even bringing our drinks over to us. we have been several times before and will defiantly be back

« nice rooms, comfortable beds, average menus »

Haven't been here for years, but rooms have been updated and were very comfortable. Staff friendly. Food fairly average, however. Seem to have forgotten the buy one get one half price when charging too, though not expensive enough to make a fuss about. Stay here and eat out.

    « Good Weekend Break »

This was our first time in Broughty Ferry but it won't be our last. This was a weekend break which we both enjoyed. The hotel is a mixture of modern and more traditional. The rooms are clean and tidy. If there was a criticism it would be that when you put two single beds together then you really need a kingsize plus duvet not a king size which just reaches the sides of the beds. It was disappointing that there wasn't a table in the room s there was nowhere to play cards, put a drink down etc. Apart from that there were no complaints about the room. The staff were attentive without being in your face and the service in the bar and restaurant was good. The food from the set menu was good with the smoked salmon and pate being tasty. The chicken was moist but unusually it came with no vegetables. The smoked slow cooked brisket was tasty but not too smokey. The second night we had the beef casserole with red wine and a steak, both of which were delicious. The breakfast is self serve and was plentiful. The leisure facilities are in good order. However it should be noted that there is inadequate individual changing facilities in the ladies. Communal showers are not to everyone's taste so you need to be aware of this. Overall we were impressed by the standard of the hotel and would certainly come back again. A word of warning, try not to park under the trees as the roosting birds will leave a deposit.

Another excellent weekend in the Woodlands Hotel. This time we stayed in the new wing which was comfortable and very clean. Good breakfast selection and pleasant and helpful staff. Again enjoyed the location for the marvellous walks along the beach and waterfront.

    « Just can't fault it. »

A fantastic stay over the weekend. We were in the large executive room, The Wyldes with three children and had more than enough room. The staff are just superb and never without a smile. My partner commented that the hotel should be a treatment centre for depression! We didn't have breakfast but ate dinner in the hotel on both nights which was excellent and superb value, particularly the childrens menu. My only wish is that this place was nearer Essex...we'd probably move in.

« A very comfortable hotel with lovely attentive staff. »

Our first stay in the Woodlands, but I always reckon if the Rotary Club use it as their venue, it will be good. We were not disappointed. The hotel was busy, busy, busy. Our room was tiny and in the God's, but we booked it on line at a premium price. The bathroom door wouldn't open fully as it wouldn't clear the sink. However, the lovely receptionist stated the obvious, and said I should have paid for an upgrade. Good advice, but just avoid room 133. Having said that, the hotel was immaculate. The bar was always buzzing and had a great atmosphere. We only ate once in the hotel, and that was for an amazing breakfast. An old fashioned quality hotel with lovely friendly staff and a great ambience.

My thanks to the Team at Best Western Woodlands for another great stay. So welcoming and the room was so clean and fresh. « Quiet Comfortable hotel - restaurant awful »

Very quiet and comfortable rooms well appointed but the restaurant food quality and service need a major re think also the check in staff did not acknowledge my Diamond status in the loyalty program so why bother spending so many nights with Best Western branded hotels ?

    « Family Friendly »

Visited this hotel in July and was very impressed. Refurb evident and new rooms are very well dressed. Staff very pleasant, service prompt and understated. A very enjoyable stay. We spent several days in the area and enjoyed fabulous for money as a nearby fair ground at a park, where you could pay money for a 2 hour pass and all rides were included for the kids. A nice change from dipping into the wallet every 2 minutes for every ride! A great short break.

    « BEST western »

Just spent a two night break at Woodlands with the family. Cannot fault a thing! Quite a charming hotel, hidden amongst the trees. We were highly satisfied with everything.....beautiful modern spacious bedrooms, clean, the food was amazing, lots of helpful staff in the dining room. The leisure centre was fantastic- so clean and tidy- and not very busy when we used the facilities. We used the pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi.....there is also a gym which we didn't make use of. Dinner menu lots to choose from, and our party of six were never disappointed!!

    « comfortable stay »

Enjoyed our two night mini break, very comfy cosy room , pleasant staff on reception. Breakfast is buffet style , though the fried eggs, omelettes, poached eggs have to be ordered ! We had dinner on the second night, good service and tasty ...but ... servings were a tad on the small side ! dessert was good ... however, key lime pie was ordered .... a nice lime meringue pie arrived !! ... not the same ! Good leisure facilities, towels are provided.

    « Lovely hotel »

Stayed over on a Sunday evening as we were attending a family wedding. Lovely hotel set in nice grounds with plenty of onsite parking available. Reception staff were very friendly and welcoming. We requested an early check in so that we could get ready for the wedding due to commence at 2pm. Fortunately for us our room was ready when we arrived at 12.30 so all good. However staff had advised in advance that if our room wasn't ready we'd have use of the onsite leisure club facilities to get ready which was good! We were allocated room 101 on the ground floor which was modern, spacious and clean with full bathroom facilities (including shower over bath) tea & coffee making facilities were provided, large flat screen tv mounted on wall and hairdryer located in drawer of dressing table. A large wardrobe and small chest of drawers was also present for those staying more than one night. Free wifi was a bonus with quick access and decent speed so no complaints. The hotel is a great venue to hold a wedding, lovely rooms for ceremony and meal/evening reception and everything seemed to run smoothly. Food served during the wedding was hot and tasted great with portion sizes just right. Breakfast was included in our room rate and was full English and continental buffet style with a vast range of foods available again very fresh and tasty. We would definitely return to this hotel in the future

    « Comfortable stay »

Very nice room with plenty of space and walk in shower. Huge flat panel telly too. Tea and coffee and very fast wifi so no complaints at all. I had dinner the first night which was OK, no real ale though. The health club look very nice although I did not use it. The staff very friendly

    3
    « Sunday High Tea »

Have visited the Woodlands for meals including high tea on many occasions over the years but I am sorry to say that today was not up to the usual standard. Service initially was poor with a waiter who seemed less than enthusiastic about his work and with one meal being missed and having to be asked for after the others had been served. It later transpired that in total there were over 100 covers for high tea in the space of 1 hour......perhaps too many for the staff to handle. Maybe the hotel needs to rethink their plans.

    « Access, toilets, accomodation »

Disabled access to the hotel is excellent, toilets are roomy enough for easy wheelchair use, restaurant tables are well spaced and seating is comfortable. Accommodation is well laid out. Tiny wee niggle- why is there absolutely no shelf space in the (otherwise excellent) disabled toilet for toiletries ?

« Wonderful stay this past weekend! »

My wife and I were travelling through the Dundee area and had the great fortune of staying at the Woodlands Hotel. Thanks to Aga and Laurie at the front desk for all their help in getting us a room and taking care of our car. Our room was very nice and modern. The stay was quiet and relaxing. Our morning breakfast was very good and comprehensive in its offering. All in all a great stay!

    « Good Customer Service »

From the time I check-in until the time I checked out all staff were very friendly and very helpful. The staff in the gym were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. The bed could do with some updating but, that is the only slight negative. I will definitely book again.

    « Saturday Break »

Stayed on Saturday night, the room was lovely and the leisure facilities are great. Had dinner, the menu is not large but the food was good and the waiting staff were great as were all the staff. Good selection for breakfast, both hot and cold. There is nothing not to like and would definitely recommend.

    « Pleasant 2 night midweek stay »

We pre-booked two nights at the Woodlands Hotel as part of a recent trip around Scotland. Arriving late afternoon after a long drive from the Highlands, we were pleased to find the hotel nestling in a quiet and peaceful residential area of town, with ample free car parking. The hotel appears to me mostly used by business travellers through the week, and it has its own on-site leisure facilities. Our ground floor bedroom was of a good size, overlooking gardens. The bathroom was well equipped and had a flexible shower. Only criticisms were that the sink was cracked, and that there were no sanitary disposal facilities which you normally find in most hotels. Our evening meals were fine. Breakfast was all buffet style, but we found that the hot food was not very warm after 9am (breakfast is served until 9.30). We attempted a walk down into the town after our evening meal, but found that although the waterfront is a 10 minute walk away, the town centre itself takes at least 30 minutes to reach by foot. Trains and buses are easily available to travel into nearby Dundee, if you don't fancy taking the car.

« Lovely lunch, lovely waiter »

I won a voucher for the woodlands hotel, so thought I'd treat myself and my daughter to lunch . I was pleasantly surprised to see they have a few offers on , one being two main meals for £12 ! I sometimes worry that it will be smaller portions than normal, but I was wrong !! I had macaroni cheese and a side order of veg . The plate was plentiful, food was piping hot and tasted absolutely delicious Our waiter (Dean) was lovely and friendly, There appeared to be a wedding and a funeral on , so they were very busy, but I still felt Dean gave us just the right amount of attention. Can't fault the food, service or staff , very pleased , and will be returning.

    « not luxury »

First room allocated was like a sauna, eventually given another. Housemaid service never left biscuits for tea/coffee etc shower didn't work properly as the pressure disappeared and then reappeared it was reported, never sorted and there was no feedback. A luxury hotel shouldn't be trying to sell rooms like our first allocated. overall hotel needs some TLC. Staff were fine and friendly enough.

    « Broughty Ferry Visit »

We have friends in Broughty Ferry so this was an excellent place to stay. Dropped elderly member of party off who stayed 5 nights. We stayed one night on return to collect her. We both stayed in different parts of the hotel. We were in the new extension which was lovely. Relative was in the older part which was still nice but I preferred the new bit. Nice swimming pool but no time to use. Bar staff in evening very pleasant. Breakfast first class. will be back next year. Plenty of parking by the way.

    « Beautiful room.... eventually »

Recently stayed for one night at this hotel and was not disappointed although it got off to a shaky start. The check-in staff were very friendly and helpful and after finding our room it was such a let down. It was tiny and looked as though it hadn't been decorated or upgraded since the 1980's. There was a horrible smell in the bathroom and the entire room was thick with dust, not just from a day or two but as though it hadn't seen in a cleaner in months. I went down to reception and explained I was expecting a bit more from our room and she immediately gave us a better room with no hesitation. Apparently when you book online directly with Best Western your room allocation comes from a central booking system and not the actual hotel so I was told. Our new room was stunning in a new part of the hotel that was recently built. It was huge, immaculately clean and the bathroom was amazing - total contrast to the first room we were given. We had booked on a dinner, bed& breakfast basis and our evening was excellent too, generous portions and tasted great. Breakfast the next morning was good too although they had started to run out of things like bread and rolls and didn't seem to be replenishing them. All the staff were polite and friendly and I wouldn't hesitate to return to this hotel as long as I made sure I was staying in the new extension!

« Good value, good food and pleasant staff with lovely surrounding. »

I stayed at this hotel in September with a group of 7 girl friends. We had a lovely time. Broughty Ferry was fabulous and we had a lovely wander around the beach, the castle and a fabulous lunch in the Ship Inn. The Girls specifically enjoyed the Cullen skunk ! We ate in the hotel for breakfast and dinner and we even had some soup and sandwiches which they prepared for us because we missed lunch on day one. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The food has had some varied reviews, I think if I was expecting 5 star dining I might have been a bit disappointed but the food we had was very very good both for breakfast and evening. It was always very warm and there was plenty of it. We all enjoyed everything we had and left the dining room full after each visit. Our rooms were spacious and I found the beds very comfortable if a little squeaky. The one complaint we had was that one of our rooms was very warm. The availability of fans' in the rooms made us think this was a common theme. We had a lovely swim in the spa and overall a lovely stay. We spent the evenings in the hotel bar which was not overly expensive but we could have gotten a couple of taxis into the town if wished. Broughty Ferry itself was very pleasant and I would recommend this hotel to others.

« Will eat here on next trip. »

Broughty Ferry is my favourite place for little getaways. This was my first time staying at this hotel. Always stayed at various hotels in the centre and been happy with the quality and service. I always thought the Woodlands Hotel was too far away. I had booked the hotel but my partner arrived first and had roses placed in my room. Through the the stay the staff were pleasant and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean. But the icing on the cake was the superb pool, sauna etc. The girl on reception at the pool was kind and helpful. We had a great afternoon, then walked into the centre of Broughty Ferry. We returned to the bar late evening. Bar staff were lovely and it's an interesting place to people watch. We will return again soon and have dinner and breakfast. Best Western have done it again, my favourite chain and this is one of their best with value for money and excellent staff.

Visited for High tea . Had a very nice Salmon salad but the cakes were rather dry! The dining area needed a good clean, very dusty. But the main objection was the staff being very unprofessional. Standing chatting and lounging on the desk.

« Good price, needs some tender loving care »

Pretty good experience. Clean and excellent price. I wished the in-room lighting had worked (and I'm very familiar with the quirks of Scottish wiring.) Also -- DON'T order coffee. It's from a vending machine. I'd stay there again if I couldn't find somewhere in St Andrews -- which was the case for me.

    « Great weekend »

Visited this hotel last weekend and upgraded to king size bedroom. Service and food was excellent and pool, sauna and steam room all very good. There was a wedding there when we arrived but this did not make any difference to the service we had. Bedroom was roomy and spotless. Would definitely go back.

    « Unexpectedly good »

I've stayed at this hotel chain's properties elsewhere in the country and wasn't greatly impressed. Nevertheless I put my trust in Trip Advisor's ratings and booked a two night break. Good sized quiet room overlooking the rear courtyard and a huge bed with en-suite bathroom. Despite a wedding reception taking place on both nights on the floor below, there was no excessive noise from the dance floor nor noisy neighbours. Breakfast was pretty good with some options cooked to order. Sausage-wise, not the best and a little skinny, but everything else was decent.

« Best Western Broughty Ferry »

    « A Friday night's stay »

Don't rush back if you are out in the town as the bar closes at 11pm (apparently if you are a resident you can get served but no one told us) If you are looking for a Scottish experience don't expect a Scottish breakfast. Staff very young and not very chatty. Bed felt old and nosey - every time you moved the whole hotel hear you. But the hotel was clean and tidy!

Wow! At a wedding and the dj was great, however, what was even better was the bar staff, Louisa and Jade, uncomplaining with the large amount of glasses to be collected, uncomplaining with the queue at the bar and incredibly knowledgeable regarding shots, we found skittle bombs!!! Yay! Thank you both girls! We loved you Xxx

    « Beautiful setting »

Lovely hotel set in magnificent gardens. Staff on reception and leisure centre very kind and helpful. They work very hard to ensure everyone is seen to promptly and with real warmth. The complementary therapist is lovely- she goes out of her way to help guests feel comfortable and is genuinely interested in your day. We got one of the older rooms on the first night which was OK as they were fully booked-but they offered to move us to the new wing for the second night and kindly moved all our cases over for the second night while we were out! The decor in the new wing is beautiful and the carpets very new and bouncy! Beds very very comfy. Lovely pool and gorgeous hot spa bath- nice and clean and well kept. Breakfast area was messy, lots of uncleared tables, my friend ended up with someone else's poached eggs! food in silver canisters looked dried up and unappetising so I opted for packet of cereal. They were fully booked so maybe it was just a bad day. So , we opted not to have evening meals there and went to a pub down the road and also had a lovely Thai meal a few miles away. There were a few people we recognised going out for dinner. Housekeeping staff in the rooms were very friendly and very welcoming- they keep the rooms perfectly and their work is of a very high standard. We had a lovely stay, would love to come back to relax in the lovely surroundings.

    « Surprise delight »

The hotel was selected based on cost and distance to work location, I hadn't looked at the facilities, so it was a delight to find such quality throughout, very helpful employees and an on-site gym. I will only be booking this hotel in the future for my weekly business trips

Stayed for a family party over the weekend. What a lovely place to stay rooms were clean plenty big enough. We ate twice in the hotel and food was great (puddings massive). The swimming pool was open from early and the hot tub great to relax in. What really stood out though we're the lovely staff. Literally everyone smiling and couldn't done enough to make our stay enjoyable. Seriously guys well done !!! To sum up if you need to stay in the area book here you will not be disappointed.

    « Great location »

This hotel sits off the main Dundee to Monifieth road in a lovely large tree filled garden which hides the fact you are surrounded by houses and makes it feel very peaceful. The hotel staff are excellent throughout and offer a friendly, helpful service. The accommodation is very good, spacious and clean although the beds were a bit worn in our room. The breakfast was really good and dinner in the restaurant was excellent, very tasty and ample portions. The pool, spa, gym area is very good as well. There is a new wing of rooms which are probably better than ours was. The hotel is in a great location as a base to visit Dundee, St Andrews and Fife, Angus and possibly further a field. Definitely worth trying.

« Nice hotel at the outskirts of Dundee »

The service was great. We got a few really valuable information for sight seeing the next day. The bar ist lovely furnished and it's easy to feel home. The room was very clean. We got an upgrade for a larger room. The breakfast the next morning was good and a wide variety was offered.

    « great short break »

Lovely hotel in a woodland setting, as the name suggests! The original building is a lovely old country house with modern extensions added. All the staff were very helpful (and there were plenty of them) and the leisure complex was excellent. The 3-course dinners at night were very good with a reasonable, varied choice of menu. Nice and close to Dundee for visitors too.

    « Best Wedding Ever!!! »

Firstly I'd like to say a big fat thank you to all you wonderful staff on a whole for making our wedding on Saturday so absolutely perfect!! From the planning stage until the day you have been amazing and for that i can't thank you enough. We started our stay with booking in the night before, my bridesmaid and I. The room was stunning and perfect for us getting ready with my entourage on the morning of the wedding. Your wonderful staff even moved my stuff for me to my next room after we left for the church. On the Friday night myself and my friends ate in the hotel restaurant. The food was great and the service was top notch. We were served by dean, he was a lovely chap. Also the bar man, billy I think? Was also great. My only negative, and it is a very minor one as my whole stay was fab butttttt I was extremely let down by the honeymoon suite in comparison to the beautiful room I was in on my first night. It was just no where near the same standard. Let's get back to the positives though.... I want to give a shout out to some of the friendly staff who made an impact on our special day ... Pete, John, Elliot, grace and the rest of the servers. Lovely joe the night porter. Pam on reception. And my main gal Aileen and Nikki for all your help throughout everything. Big love! Kerri and Ryan xxx

« Diamond Wedding Anniversary celebrations »

It was my great aunt and uncle's diamond wedding anniversary and they chose to hold the celebration dinner here on Saturday. There were about 20 of us in total. The food was average, not great. I had pate which looked like whipped cream with oatcakes to start - it was ok. Then I had roast lamb which looked and tasted a bit re-constituted / plastic. Disapointing. The Sticky toffee pud which was pretty good. The service wasn't that great either - very slow serving wine for example. I think they were all too busy with the wedding party next door to focus on making sure our little party had a fabulous time. They put the cake in the corner of the room, awkward for walking past and for photos. Should have been displayed pride of place in th middle of the table or with the champagne glasses where there was plenty of room. Then when we wereleaving we had to ask for the rest of the cake, and they gave us the bride's cake from next door!!! Ooops! Luckily we spotted that :)

« Lovey Hotel in a beautiful part of Scotland »

Stayed here for an overnight and we were delighted all round. We had no complaints at all, everything was great. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient......our room on the first floor was very clean and of a good size. Food in the hotel was very enjoyable with a range of choices. We would have no hesitation in returning here. There are good leisure facilities available, but we didn't access these as we were only staying one night.

    « Friendly folks »

My husband and I spent one night here recently and was charmed by the friendliness of the entire staff. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel was comfortable and extremely clean. The housekeeping staff were meticulous in the way they ensured nothing escaped their notice. The dining room still retained the original features of the mansion house it once was. The breakfast was good but nothing special. The buffet had a wide range of breakfast dishes but some of the hot food good have been a degree warmer. The dinner menu was a disappointment compared to others I've had in similar priced hotels. Both my curry and my husbands sweet and sour chicken tasted as if they had come straight from the bottle. There was too much sauce which made the appearance of the dishes less appetising. Fine dining it was not - more the efforts of a cook than a chef. Having said that, for the price it was good value but again, had better.

Great place to stay, very reasonable price, great food, good and friendly staff service. I would recommend this venue to anyone. We were on ground floor and room was a comfortable temperature but friends on other floors complained rooms were far too hot.

    « Not in Dundee »

Hotel was very nice room very specious but not in Dundee that was disappointing as we wanted to b in hub of the city however place we stayed was brouthy yes not on the map but most enjoyable not a walking distance from hotel so driver could not enjoy wee drum due to zero alcohol tolerance in Scotland

    « Continuity 100% »

Visited here in February for 2 nights with my disabled client and we both were delighted with our disabled room and the Gluten free menu available, returned this month for 4 days this time and was not disappointed the service and hospitality remained first class, Jen in the bar looked after all our needs and took the time to point out places of interest for us to visit, well done again.

    « A quiet getaway »

We came for a little R & R and this hotel fitte our criteria perfectly. Away from the bustle of the centre of Dundee reasonably close to the centre, near to a beach, and easy access to the surrounding countryside. The food is reasonable, breakfast could be hotter, but the hotel is full and how make amends for that. The dinner star are adequate, a little more training and the they could be semi-human. Politeness is not a strong point. The room was absolutely spot on, new build wing only open a week, spotlessly clean, bed the size of a football pitch, wonderfull

    « Nice stay »

My husband and myself stayed here for one night. The room that we booked had a lovely four poster bed and overall was clean, although there was plastic glasses in the bathroom and when I opened one of them it was disgusting as it had been used and had been put back in the plastic cover also one of the coffee cups had a stain on it. The cleaning staff should have noticed this. I did point this out to management who dealt with it quickly and effieciently. The room was over the kitchen and restaurant and was quite noisy. The staff were all very friendly and the bar area was very comfy. Bar prices were really reasonable. Great breakfast in the morning with plenty of choice. The leisure facilities were really good as well. Pool jacuzzi steam room sauna and gym. We would definitely stay here again as we found it lovely and relaxing.

« Could have been better »

We booked a king room in this hotel but it did not meet our expectations. We expected something larger for what we paid and on reflection should have just gone with the standard room. We also found there was a lot of noise from floor above. There was nothing wrong with the food but the main courses were standard "pub grub". A fortnight before we had stayed at the Crieff Hydro for less, larger room and better grub. Staff here were very helpful and attentive.

    3
« Situated in Broughty Ferry »

hotel has been extended and the newer part is much better than the original. Paying the extra for a king room is worth it. They have a gym and swimming pool. Well located for the beach and attractions in Broughty Ferry. Dundee about a 10 minute drive away. Breakfast was okay, we did not try the evening meals here. Plenty of parking, reception very helpful.

    « 4 NIGHTS MID WEEK BREAK »

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for 4 nights mid week on a b/b basis. We booked through "easy-breaks" and had pre paid our 4 day break. Our room had a king size bed and to be honest it had seen better days coupled with the fact it was particularly squeaky and the curtains allowed light in at the top. The room however was spotlessly clean and the maid service was thorough throughout our stay .All the room service staff were friendly and welcoming . What I didn,t agree with was the fact that although we had pre paid to "eastbreaks" the reception staff had a requirement to take my visa/debit card details even although I had said I would be paying cash for any extras. I was told that it was policy. The breakfast, we found was good , buffet style, with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, black pudding, potato scones with the additional choice of freshly cooked omelette, fried or poached eggs. There was also fresh fruit, bread, rolls, yogurts etc Sadly, certain staff and I stress only certain staff at breakfast, let the hotel down, devoid of pleasantries, a smile would have went a long way Asking for brown sauce was a hassle for one member of staff and on another occasion asking if I could order my fried eggs at the same time as my tea and coffee, the reaction on this persons face was similar to me asking them for a loan of £100. There are leisure facilities , gym / swimming pool but we didn,t use them. They were used by locals and speaking to one gent he said that they were excellent The hotel was very good as a central base and we visited the Angus coast, Arbroath, Carnoustie, Montrose etc and down the way to St Andrews and Crail. I am aware that there are other possibly better rooms in the hotel but can only give a review on our experience

    « business trip »

Booked in BW via central reservations, lady on reception was very friendly and helpful when we arrived. Nice location with plenty of parking. Well pointed room, and my colleague said the gym was good although I hadn't been myself. Breakfast was very good, and only 5mins from Dundee centre

    « Good visit »

Visit with my husband. Found the room to be quire basic. The room was clean although in need of some minor fixings - handle on wardrobe and drawer unit loose. Spa area was nice, with assistant ensuring it was kept clean. Staff is the spa were friendly and chatty which was nice. Changing rooms were a basic bit clean. Breakfast was okay, there was plenty of choice however we found the hot breakfast to be warm but not hot. Unfortunately when arriving and leaving people were smoking immediately outside the doors which as signs stating not too, as non smokers we had to walk through a cloud of smoke which was not pleasant at all. There is a shelter nearby for smokers but they clearly chose not to use it. Overall our stay was fine and would recommend.

    « All we needed »

Just needed a place for one night attending a wedding in town. Adequate room for one night, but could have done with some kind of ventilation/air-conditioning as it got really warm overnight, even at moderate temperature outside. The reception was friendly, even though the receptionist insisted on not answering my questions, because she "was going to get to that" as part of the canned welcome talk.

    « Relaxing Trip »

My wife is 38 weeks pregnant so we wanted a few days away as we had just finished work. We also did not want to be far away from home! Have just returned and really benefitted from two nights away. Great hotel. We had a modern room with flat screen tv and great shower. Hotel clean and staff were attentive. We ate both nights at hotel and the food was tasty and well presented and portion sizes generous. Breakfast also well catered for. All in all a great time away and batteries recharged. The hotel also has a small leisure club which was an added bonus. We will return.

« Avoid and save your money »

Straight off the bat, don't believe the reviews, I booked this hotel based on this positive feedback and ended up in a nightmare. We needed to stay in the area for a graduation in nearby St Andrews, so booked two rooms for two nights. Lets start with the rooms, one room had no a/c, so we were very hot all night long despite the windows being wide open, the radiators were set to off but the hot pipes made sleeping very sweaty. The beds themselves were rock hard, normally I like a firm bed, but this was like sleeping on a granite block, the same applied to the flat and lifeless pillows. Our shower didn't work and though we thought it would be fixed after we complained in the two nights we were there, no water flowed. Fair enough the hotel gave us access to another room down a corridor for showering, but when you're paying for an ensuite it was very inconvenient, and moreover they should have known it wasn't working! In addition there was also only one working electrical outlet that was accessible which meant ironing had to be done cramped, hunched over down the side of the bed, moreover the window lock was broken and the cupboard had burn marks from the downlights. The other room, our family stayed at was far too small, and though it did have a.c. was too hot and cramped, and due to the dormer window you have duck to enter the bed. Breakfast was equally lacklustre, self-service, lacking taste and any quality with dreary local fm piped in the background. I've stayed in many hotels across the UK, and this has to be one of the worst I've ever stayed at and I'll certainly be writing to Best Western about my experience at this awful dated hotel.

« A very nice room, bar, restaurant, lesurse club, grand hotel all round! »

Another grand Best Western up here in Scotland, my room was an executive, very nice, modern and fresh, a lovely double walking shower in the bath room, modern bathroom, nicely tiled. A very comfortable double bed, tea and coffee making facilities in the room, wi fi throughout and free ! Great position of the tv and nice big screen ! The bar is well stocked with a good range of beers, wines and sprites, and whiskey. The restaurant is modern and classic I had a very nice chicken Caesar salad. Bar has a good range of crisps, nuts and chocolate !!

I stopped here for one night and was upgraded to a better room as BW member. A good size room with single beds and a shower. I went out for dinner at the Goa restaurant and walked the 20 minutes to the shoreline before eating, there were quite a few places to eat here. The hotel was well presented and signs up for wet paint so it appears to be well looked after and the public areas were tidy too. Breakfast felt a little on the basic side and buffet style rather than cooked to order, not a bad thing if you want to be up and out but C-2-O would have improved my impression. I would have liked to see kippers and haggis there as well. I didn't try the spa/pool but will be back later in the year and will stop here again. One last thing, all the staff seemed friendly during my visit.

    « Very good hotel »

W e have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Woodlands Hotel and we could not have picked a better hotel for the stay the staff were friendly and helpful .The hotel is situated in a wood area about a five minute drive to the beach. We were on a dinner bed and breakfast offer and found the food to be on a high standard. We stayed in the new wing and found the rooms to be very comfortable. The only drawback was the fact that the rooms and corridor in the new wing were very warm even with the bedroom windows open continually for 3 days the room was warm. Apart from that it was a lovely break and would recommend the hotel for a break

« First class hotel with lovely rooms and excellent breakfast »

I was part of a group of 20 golfers who stayed here for a long weekend, we have been going to Scotland for over 20 years and this was one of the best, if not the best hotel we have stayed in. Our budget isn't big so we normally stop in the likes of the Best Western and we are so glad we stayed in this one. The staff were some of the friendless I've encountered, the rooms were very nicely appointed, good size with lovely furniture and very comfy beds and pillows, so much so I've just ordered some of the pillows they use for home. Breakfast was brilliant with an amazing selection of hot buffet food, cereals, toast (with the comedy pass-through toaster's that never work), pastries, fresh fruit, pretty much everything you would ever want, you could also order items such as omelettes, freshly cooked eggs and porridge etc., and a special note to the breakfast staff, they were so helpful and couldn't do enough to help. I used the pool and gym, very nice they were are all, the bar area was good and the prices very reasonable for a hotel. I would whole heartily recommend this hotel if you are in the area, its top notch.

    « Couldn't fault it. »

Finally getting round to this... Checked in and within an hour (due to personal circumstances) was on my way home again. Dealt with the manager (Nikki, if I remember correctly) and I must say. I haven't met a lovelier person in a long time, very understanding and down to earth. Gave us her card and she said when we could return to give her a call and she'd give us a great room. Haven't don't so yet but plan to. The room was gorgeous and clean, hotel staff were brilliant and the grounds were lovely. Highly recommend.

« Food only prior to Genesis tribute band »

This hotel is familiar to me as I use it for the gym facilities and living local have attended other functions here also. On this occasion my colleagues and I decided to have dinner prior to a Genesis Tribute band, the food choices were more than adequate for pre concert eating. We noticed the Assistant Manager Peter Blann in complete control as the hotel begun to fill with folk attending the concert also residing at the hotel. Set in quiet and peaceful grounds this is a very desirable location for a hotel experience.

    « Excellent second stay »

2nd time staying here. Got a room in the new modern wing this time- king sized bed. Very good quality for a price paid. A short walk outside the town centre for Broughty Ferry. Reception staff particularly friendly and helpful. Didn't use leisure facilities but what I saw of them looked good

    5
    « Enjoyable Stay. »

We were here for 2 nights and we were in the newer rooms. They are most comfortable. Large bed and nice decor. In our rate breakfast was included and that was a real treat. We also had dinner in the restaurant and also enjoyed that much. Breakfast and dinner is held in the main building, which has character. And therefore a nice place to sit and enjoy. The newer rooms do have connecting doors, which therefore makes it a bit more noisy, then if there would be no door. But that didnt bother us much. Rooms were very clean and the woman at the reception were very kind. We would love to stay here again !

    « Excellent Hotel & Staff »

    « Delightful Hotel »

I spent three nights in this hotel to meet up with friends and would go back in a minute if there was an excuse to do so. I got the bus to Dundee and it was a fairly short journey in a taxi to the hotel in Broughty Ferry. It is, as its name suggests, surrounded by trees. There was a wedding there the night I arrived which gave it a pleasant atmosphere. I had a lovely room. The food, especially the dinner at night was excellent - full marks to the chef. Over those three nights I had the same meal twice! It was hot salmon on salad and the salmon was hot until the last bite. One of the best meals I've tasted. The staff were all friendly such as the house keepers, bar staff and reception. The only downside for me was that it was a bit too far from the town and there were no shops near it...!!!! The first time I've been away without coming home with something I bought! I hope to return one day. I can highly recommend this hotel.

    « A Quality Hotel.. Lovely Setting »

We visited this old haunt one Sunday for High Tea and, not having been there for a couple of years, didn't know how it woul be. Very surprised. It is in good hands with Best Western and still quite the place to be for good food served by efficient and friendly staff. Oh, and fine value for money, as it always was. We shall not wait so long to effect a return.

    « A night away from home. »

The Woodlands Hotel has been around for years. I remember playing in the grounds when I was young. Belonged to Betts back then. The rooms are adequate but beds not particularly comfortable. The bar area is quite pleasant to sit and catch up with friends. Restaurants waitresses are very pleasant and polite although the food is quite average.

« Victorian mansion with modern additions »

Situated in the Broughty Ferry area of Dundee, the Woodlands is convenient for local attractions. It was originally a mansion house and holds many of the original features such as a splendid staircase and stained glass windows. There is a large car park and easy access, while the food was excellent. As expected in Dundee, the staff were always very friendly and helpful.

« Worst hotel I've ever stayed in »

I came here for a 2 night stay with my mum (her treat for me) The receptionist at check in was pleasant and helpful but unfortunately it went down hill fast from there. The room was clean and spacious. The bathroom although it looked like it had been recently decorated, left a lot to be desired. Bath plug did not fit so while in bath had to constantly top up otherwise you wouldn't have been able to wash. Toilet flush was erratic and hot water tap on wash hand basin was erratic, either a drip or a full scalding hot rush. Room was noisy with what sounded like a lift (no lift in hotel) going up and down until the early hours. My mother who is a pensioner did not sleep. Dinner was nice, staff not overly pleasant but ok. Breakfast was a nightmare from start to finish. We arrived around 8am, the waiter did not acknowledge us only my mother saying good morning evoked a response. We were seated and asked if we would like tea, which arrive cold. The cold buffet had a good selection we opted for fruit and yoghurt to start and thank goodness we did. We went for a full cooked breakfast which was cold, remember this was 8 am. The staff ignored our full plates of breakfast then eventually came and asked if we had finished, no questions as to why we had left so much food. My mother being a pensioner hates waste but I would not have feed this to my dogs. I worked for a 5* award winning hotel and spa resort and I know my general manager would be ashamed if such a negative review had been posted but after looking through the reviews I'm not sure the GM in this establishment takes heed of bad reviews. Although he does comment on reviews, is anything ever actioned? Usually we go with a party of eight and if we like a place we return, I would not darken this hotels door again and would certainly not recommend this establishment. I look forward to the GMs response. Please remember my mother paid good money for this stay and I am ashamed that her hard earned savings have been wasted.

Our party of nineteen golfers stayed for a short tour of the local courses. We were given our own dining room which worked brilliantly. « Brilliant Stay »

Stayed at the Woodlands mid April for a golfing weekend. Check in was smooth and quick and we were given a very spacious twin room in the newly extended side of the hotel. The corridors and room was very well appointed, we could still smell the newness of the carpets. Fixtures, fittings and decor in the room were nice and contemporary with a high standard finish. Bathroom was very modern with a lovely walk in shower. Couldn't fault it. We ate in the restaurant on one night, food was excellent, well presented and staff very attentive. Breakfast was served til 10 am and was both plentiful and delicious. There was ample parking and Broughty Ferry centre was a pleasant 15 mins stroll away. We used the modern leisure facilities which included Gym, swimming pool, sauna and steam room. All were spotlessly clean. We spoke to quite a few of the hotel staff, and all were very friendly and helpful. Free fast WI FI throughout the hotel All in all we could not find a single fault with this hotel. We will definitely be back and use this hotel as our base for future golf weekends

    « Weekend break »

The hotel located in discreet area of Broughty Ferry and only a few minutes' drive to the Dundee shopping centres. Car parking is free and plentiful. The spa and gym facilities are good and a bonus for guests with towels being provided. The rooms are of adequate size, very comfy bed, large flat screen television, kettle for making tea and coffee, essential toiletries provided, clean and fresh looking. Breakfast was good but buffet could have been topped up quicker during busy period. Wi-Fi not available on first and second night but on day of departure. Overall reasonable good value for price charged. Would stay here again and recommend to friends.

Hotel was lovely, room was very clean and comfortable. The water pressure in the shower wasn't the best. Staff were very friendly and accommodating and fitted us in last minute for dinner. Not really a complaint more a bit of a disappointment was the food. Presentation was poor and very dated. Prompting would have been nice now knowing there was no veg/salad served with the mains. Did not feel the food was good value for money. Breakfast however was lovely. Overall very enjoyable stay and would return but perhaps not dine in the hotel again.

We had a nice large family room at at reasonable price but, we were right above the kitchen and the whole room smelled of frying and burnt things, even our clothes that were left in the room smelled of fat etc. Would never go back to that room again. Great staff and excellent food. Stayed for a family celebration. Would have been perfect apart from couple of room issues. Shower pressure not great which is annoying. And bedroom very warm despite is being cold out and no heating on. Desk fan provided was on all night.

« Loved it and will return »

We had an overnight stay here recently as we were attending a function in another hotel nearby. We were delighted with our overall experience especially for the reasonable price we paid. We were given a room on the ground floor in the new extension at the back of the hotel which was beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The view from the window was only of another part of the hotel but as it was winter, it was dark most of the time we were actually in the room. We loved the fact that it was very quiet and afforded us a very good night's sleep. We used the pool and found it ideal, warm and not too busy. There is also a Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room as well as a well-equipped gym. We ate dinner in the hotel and found the food and service excellent and the breakfast was great with a good choice of well-cooked items as well as pastries, cereals, fruit etc. All the staff we encountered during our stay were friendly and helpful. We look forward to a return visit to this delightful hotel on another occasion.

    « Pleasant stay »

We booked to stay here one Saturday night in March with our 18 month old soon. We had a pleasant stay however the room was not great. We had a travel cot placed in the room for our son. The room was very small and with the addition of the travel cot it was difficult to move around. The bathroom was tiny and the door didn't fully open due to lack of space. The room door did lock in the inside but our son was able to open the door easily. Despite being aware that we had a young child with us we were given a room on the third floor of the old section of the hotel where there were no lifts. It would have been very difficult to have got the buggy up the stairs. There was a wedding on so that might explain why we were placed there away from the noise. We ate in the restaurant and the food was tasty and good value for money. We ordered a pizza for our son and it was one of the Chicago pizzas that you put in the microwave for two mins. I would have liked something fresher but my son loved it so can't really complain. All the staff were lovely and very accommodating. The pool area was very clean and the water was nice and warm. I would def stay here again and would have rated he note higher as everything was good apart from the room.

« Comfortable hotel in peaceful location »

Stayed here on Friday evening. Woodlands is a pleasant hotel with ample parking. We had a large, comfortable room which was suitably heated. The leisure facilities are a bonus with a good size pool, steam room, sauna and spa bath. There is also a well stocked gymnasium. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The only slight drawback was the solitary towel in the bathroom. This, though, may have been an oversight.

« Not for the business traveler! No lift, poor water pressure, room is OK! »

Not sure why you want to stay at this property. For a business travel hauling your bag up the stairs is joke, no lift. The rooms are ok, the bathroom has been updated but they have nearly zero water pressure, when you inquire they state it's an old property, I state that I will not return. Rooms are small! Breakfast is fine, the people are nice but with all the other nice (modern) hotels why would you stay at this property? I would recommend you try one of the other NEW hotels in town.

    « Very helpful staff »

Was there for a meeting and we went to the lounge bar after for a coffee and a drink. Waitress Jasmine most helpful and cheery. Good to meet staff who enjoy their job. Hotel is a nice mixture of a business and local establishment. Plus the name gives away the setting. Lovely trees where the car park is.

    « Friendly, helpful staff »

Stayed for a night following our son's wedding. The staff were excellent. Very friendly and helpful. We had a beautiful room. Spacious, spotlessly clean and a very comfortable bed. The buffet breakfast was lovely. Everything from fruit and cereal through to a full Scottish breakfast. The wedding itself was well managed - a wonderful day was had by all.

    « Enjoyed our visit »

We all had a lovely stay at this hotel, we were through for a wedding the staff were very freindly, sometimes when you're there for just one night not much of an effort with you, however this was not the case, overall great experience

I stayed for 5 nights and was very impressed with the cleanliness and condition of the hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Restaurant was nice although the menu wasn't exhaustive, it was adequate and food was good. Would certainly stay again

« Comfortable relaxing 2 night stay on 8th/9th March. »

Booked via Easy Breaks. Room with king size bed in new extension was very comfortable with TV, tea/coffee making facilities, hair drier and ironing board. Strathspey and Reel Society practicing in the ballroom every Tuesday evening was a pleasant surprise. Food is good but limited selection repeated each night. Made full use of the complimentary swimming pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna but didn't have the energy to attempt the fitness room facilities. Can't fault the staff who were all very polite and helpful. Broughty Ferry has loads of eateries with quality art galleries. Bulk of shops on the main street comprise every charity shop you can think of. Seafront is a very pleasant walk. Main high street shops are 10 minutes away in Dundee with easily accessible parking at the Overgate Centre. Visits to Arbroath Abbey to see the "Declaration of Arbroath" exhibition and the wildlife at Montrose basin are well worth while.

    « Weekend stay »

Stayed at hotel in March for our anniversary. Room was in the new part of the hotel but was not as spacious as the rooms we have previously been in. Disappointed with lack of toiletries in the room. Staff were all very welcoming as usual and made our stay very enjoyable. We had dinner at night and were very impressed with the gluten free menu and the personal touch and service we received from Ewan (chef) Jodie and Jasmine (waitresses). One of the best meals we have had in a long time and its great to see how well food intolerances are accommodated.

    « March Stay »

Stayed for one night. This hotel has many different styles of rooms. One I had on ground floor was ok. Not as nice as some of the others I have stayed in. You can hear people outside the rooms as the floor squeaks a little. Not a huge choice on the room service menu as there used to be. My chicken and potato meal did not come with anything else. I was surprised it did not come with other veg. Felt it let the meal down. Overall not a bad hotel.

have stayed here many times, never dissappointed, rooms etc spotless, breakfast and meals fabulous, great value for money, a good 15min walk into the town but lovely when get down to the waterfront, we had gorgeous weather last weekend so that added to our splendid break, will definately be booking for this hotel again, we usually go twice a year, have done for over 12years now

Had a great mum & daughter day in the leisure suite, never been before and will be coming back and even thinking of joining the club, we had the swim & lunch and l had a full body massage from Christine Cuthill which was amazing and my daughter have a Indian head massage which she said she felt so relaxed after it and Christine was so nice and made you feel at ease , after that we headed into the restaurant which was nice and the menu and the service was good.

Stayed on 27 Feb 2016 and cant rate this hotel highly enough. We had a beautiful newly refurbished room, the food was excellent and the spa facilities an added bonus to our stay. « Best 3 star hotel I've stayed in to date »

Just back from a short break to the lovely town of Broughty Ferry with a Disabled client who I am his carer along with his Mum who was conveniently given the room next door to us, the disabled room was fantastic with an enormous wet room and a large twin room everything spotless with a large flat screen tv facing both beds, staff were fantastic and helpful and we even had time for an "Indian" head massage from the in house masseuse at an extra cost but well worth it, swimming pool and spa also available..maybe next time. My client's dietary needs had to be Gluten free and this was accommodated with his own Gluten free menu and the chef couldn't be more helpful and cooked chicken with a gluten free sauce that wasn't on the menu. Well done to all the friendly and helpful staff at the Woodlands, definitely be back soon.

    « Excellent customer service »

Hi, This is an excellent hotel, not sure why it is not a four star hotel. Stayed in a king room. Reception staff very helpful, allowed us to check in early for a wedding. Wedding meal and breakfast was excellent. Plenty of car parking. The only downside is they do not allow pets or dogs :-( which limits when we can return.

    5
« Friendly, well run hotel »

Excellent accommodation for the price, fantastic friendly staff and good facilities. The pool is a reasonable size. Breakfast was very good. It is near enough to walk to the sea and the town centre which helps as parking in the town can be quite difficult. It's about 15 mins drive to Dundee city centre, far enough to be avoid the hustle and bustle of the city but close enough to benefit from its amenities should you need them.

« Highly recommend the Best Western Woodlands Hotel, Broughty Ferry. »

    « comfortable and welcoming »

Good sized room, clean hotel with good facilities, friendly helpful staff. Good choice of food for evening meal, cooked breakfast could have been better, had to wait for ages for eggs and beans were dried up but will definately stay here again.

« Ok, would go back however....... »

Room clean and ample for a one night stay. Had a drink in the lounge and was so disappointed with the selection of beers, Stella and Tennants were the draught beers, no Scottish craft beers such as Arran and Brew Dog. A missed opportunity to showcase our countries rich and exciting real beers heritage. The shower cubicle leaked water so the bathroom was awash with water after showering. Kept waiting to be seated for breakfas for several minutes. The Polish receptionist was very welcoming and she phoned me as we left shoes in the room. This is a good hotel but it can do better.

    « nice and cozy »

I arrived and got parked up without a problem due to the ample parking facilities. I was made welcome by the reception staff and asked if I had any extra requirements. The room was spacious clean and warm. I used the bar in the hotel which served a nice pint of tenants I would definitely use again or recommend to anyone

« Good hotel facilities shame about the restaurant »

Hotel was nice and clean. Leisure facilities were great. Swimming pool was reasonable size. Shame the sauna was out of order due to a technical fault. Food in restaurant was terrible, me and my son went for supper one evening and didn't go back. I had the macaroni which was watery and tasteless. My son ordered off the kids which is very reasonably priced however he did not enjoy the food.

    « Business stay »

Stayed on the 14th Feb for one night. Really good hotel with a decent gym and pool. Plenty of choice on the menu for breakfast and dinner. Sky Sports shown in the bar for football. Rooms are well designed with a comfortable bed and hot shower. All staff were nice especially the waiters/waitresses. I would recommend highly.

    « Cheeky Night Away »

Stayed here for one night on the 6th February 2026 dinner b&b. The King room was excellent very new as you could smell the newness!!! Clean quiet and very comfortable they even had TETLEY t-bags in the room which are the only ones my husband will use. The bathroom was clean & walk in shower was a bonus. The pool and facilities were good only downside when we signed into pool they didn't have towels for us but we were advised they would be ready in bout 40 mins as they were in the 'tumble drier'. They were ready when we were done & just out of drier so nice & warm. The food was good but they made one wee mistake with my order but they were very busy and the hostess was run of her feet. There was a wedding on in the ballroom and at one point during the evening the guests became very noisy but it didn't go on for long and didn't hear them apart from this. All in all this was a good hotel and would definitely return here again and was good value for money.

    « Lovely stay, relaxing »

Felt very welcome from all staff in the hotel. Paid a little extra and received a king size bed and room in the new wing. Very comfortable and lovely shower. Food in the dining room very tasty although a very limited menu. Swimming pool, jacuzzi and steam room nice and quiet. The surrounding area around the pool is slippy and sadly my husband slipped in the shower and pulled down the shower curtain. He sustained a bruised arm. The pool area and showers could do with some nonslip mats. The distance from the main part of town will take about 25 mins to walk into but a taxi only cost about £5, well worth the pennies. All in all a lovely hotel and lovely friendly staff.

    3
« Shame about the food! »

Had one of the new king rooms which was very nice. However the quality of the food during our stay was very disappointing. I complained to the reception manager to be told that she sometimes has to send her food back because it isn't good!!!!

    « Daughters Wedding »

My daughter got married in Woodlands Hotel in November 2015 the package they offered was exceptional value. They made sure that the day ran smoothly and everything was just right. The food was exceptional for day guest and the buffet provided for evening was more than adequate for the numbers and very good. The guest stayed in the hotel had nothing but praise for the rooms and the way they were treated. If I had another daughter I would use this venue again.

    « Good value option »

Just a one night visit. I found the hotel a good VFM option. The room was perfectly fine, although only a shower not a bath. Good leisure facilities with a pool and excellent gym. Food was Ok, good size portion of pate, gammon was well cooked and key lime pie was really good. Self - serve full Scottish breakfast was fine. The staff were friendly and helpful with a particular nod to Jasmine who was very helpful and good-humoured.

« Mostly ok except for bar service »

We stayed 15 and 16 Jan. We have been abroad since then hence lateness of this. We were at an event at the hotel on the 16th so stayed there. Check in was good, room clean and spacious. Check out was easy and reception staff most helpful. The issues I had were when we arrived we had driven nearly 400 miles and were hungry and wanted to relax. We went in the bar and quite clearly the barman did not want us there. I have never known someone so ignorant in all my years of travelling. There was a lady there also who to be fair was OK. There is a huge need here for a customer service training course. It was exactly the same the next night. I would also comment that on the Saturday morning we were getting ready for our event which started at 12.30. The housemaid knocked on the door and we said we would be out by 12. I was offered clean towels at this point which I refused as I thought the room would be done after 12. It was not. The bed was also extraordinarily hard. Overall I would say this hotel needs improvement but was clean and ok for an overnight. I would not like to spend a week here.

    « Superb High Tea »

Not been here for a while. 11 of us went for high tea, @ £12.50 each. We were not disappointed. Great service, great food, great selection. It was busy, but we did not have to wait. Tea & coffee were plentiful. We WILL be back.

    « Good Stopover »

Stopped here on the way up to Aberdeen for a business trip the following day. The rooms were basic but clean and good for a single night. Staff were attentive and friendly. The restaurant serves decent food after a long day's driving. Would recommend for business users. Early morning snack-based breakfast was also helpful for me (leaving at 5am!).

    « 80th Birthday Venue »

We used the Woodlands for a family birthday party. The pre organising with the manager was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant area was perfect for our needs and sectioned off from the rest of the public making it private. The food was amazing and all our party guests complimented it. Price wise I thought we did really well for what we received. I will definitely be back and can highly recommend using the Woodlands for any function.

    « Christmas dinner »

Food was well presented and a good selection available. However when the food was served it was cold - particularly the soup. Portion sizes were unsatisfactory due to how small they were. Overall service was average.

    1
    « Hogmanay »

Worst ever! Food mundane and poorly presented and served. Music was monotonous and ear splitting. I have been coming here for last twenty years and were we not in company I wouldn't be sitting here writing this. I won't be back! I am deafened and feeling unwell because of the management clearly instructing DJ to turn up volume to make customers drink to excess!

Just had an amazing meal at the woodlands hotel cooked by Ewan macrea got a couple extras too. Brilliant place. I had the special meat ball followed by a burger and chips and soon to get a sweet. The staff are very friendly especially jasmine brown and Peter blann. Much appreciated

« Nice hotel, awful food »

The hotel itself is fine. Spacious rooms but looking a little tired. The check in staff seemed a little pre occupied but OK. However the evening meal was a massive let down. It's expensive but that's fine as long as you get quality. I had the steak with extra onion rings and peppercorn sauce, which was £24. The steak itself was so thin, about the same as a gammon steak. It was over seasoned, probably too hide it's bland taste. Probably the worst steak I've ever had. Such a let down. I'd stay here again but definitely eat elsewhere

    2
    « An Inconvenience? »

My friend and I were looking forward to meeting for a coffee and a chat, and we decided that The Woodlands would perhaps be a pleasant change from our usual venue. Wrong! From the moment we went to the bar area where staff were putting plates away, it seemed as if we were being regarded as an inconvenience, as the staff took a few seconds to acknowledge our presence. Normal practice should be that the customer is greeted with a smile, and a Good Afternoon. We felt we were being accorded a favour when our order was taken. No-one was rude, but off-handedness isn't how you win custom from your rivals. The coffee and scones took a bit longer to arrive than we'd expected, but were enjoyable, nonetheless. it wasn't as if the lounge was busy, as initially we were the sole customers. I wonder whether the lack of customers could be due to the same lacklustre attitude we'd encountered being the order of the day. I'd very much looked forward to having a nice long chat with my friend, whom I hadn't seen for a while, but unfortunately our catching up had to be cut short, as the staff began fixing, or changing, a lock on the lounge's patio doors. This caused quite a draught of cold air to come in, and the temperature of the room fell considerably, which meant we had to leave sooner than intended. The staff, for some reason, (poor training perhaps), did not tell us they were about to do this, or ask if we'd have minded. We realised that repairs have to be done, from time to time, but this should not be at the expense of the comfort of the customer. If we'd been offered a table in another part of the hotel while the work was being carried out it would have at least have shown that the staff were being thoughtful. It was as if we were invisible. Not good enough, Woodlands. I have attended many functions at this hotel.. beginning in the 1960s, and this is the first time I haven't felt welcome. I think that some staff training, especially management-wise, would be a good idea. How a business is run reflects the professionalism, or lack of it, of the manager/proprietor. It costs nothing to put the customer first.

    « My view »

    « Lovely hotel & staff »

I stayed here while working in Dundee. I got a very warm welcome on arrival. The room was spotless and a good size. I ate in the bar on the night, the food was great and the staff very friendly and polite. The hotel has a pool and gym, again very clean. Breakfast was nice, although the guy serving was a bit gumpy. I'd definitely recommend this hotel.

« Warm welcome in the Ferry »

Lovely quaint hotel in Broughty Ferry. Staff were extremely helpful and leisure facilities very good. Stayed in the old part of the hotel on the second floor in a standard double room. This was ideally suited to a single person. The bed was more of a 3/4 one. The en suite door made contact with the sink when opened! All in all a tight squeeze! However, staff were very helpful and because the hotel was so very full were unable to change the room. hoping to return to stay in the new Abercromby bedrooms.

    5
    « Service and Staff »

All I can say about this hotel is that the service you receive is second to none, the friendliness and willingness of the staff was really good to see, they worked as a team, and smiled and laughed with each other and guests a like. I really recommend this place to any business traveler.

    5
    « Business Trip »

Great place to stay. Ok maybe a little outside Dundee itself but the hotel, staff and facilities are great. Excellent value for money. The gym and pool were clean and well maintained. Breakfast was plentiful and a good choice.

    « A Wet November Weekend »

No internet in our room, although it was working elsewhere. Rooms were very stuffy and you cant open the window. Initially we were allocated a room on the top floor, the stairs are steep and difficult to negotiate. I asked to move rooms and were offered the choice of 3 other rooms lower down, we accepted one. Breakfast was first class with plenty on offer. Hotel is situated well off the beaten track, it is about 15 minutes drive into Dundee. A reasonable bus service is about 5 minutes walk from the hotel.

    « Birthday wkend »

Stayed 2 overnights (Fri & Sat) as part of a large gp,celebrating a 70th birthday. Our room was in the original old building, was clean & well decorated & overlooked the patio near the front door. The hotel was busy plus there was a wedding on the Fri. The birthday meal on Sat. was excellent as we were seated in the library where there was plenty room for our gp. The staff, particularly those serving for our birthday meal, were 1st class. Some of the group used the swimming pool. all of our group had a most enjoyable weekend.

    « a little disappointing.. »

We spent 5 nights here with our Grandson and had a mixed bag of experience with this hotel. Great location and setting near Boughty Ferry. Reception staff were great, very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The first room we were given was above the kitchen so when we found a window locked in the open position and the hotel staff not able to close it the noise and smell coming in was unacceptable and we had to be moved. At breakfast the choice and quality was exceptionally good. However, some staff were joyful and friendly whilst others a complete opposite! My Grandson and I made good use of the leisure club especially the swimming pool. The staff here were very helpful and should be commended for their great service. Although we were passing hotel guests I would say the 'local' leisure club members were friendly and welcoming. Our room was adequate but not always cleaned properly or replenished fully. There was a lot of noise, especially doors banging through the night and also building work going on through the day so not as peaceful as we needed. The hotel is very tired in places and needs updating so no the Best Western standard we normally experience.

    « birthday treat weekend »

I booked a weekend at this Spa hotel to treat myself for my birthday, I took my daughterand what a treat we had! The hotel is gorgeous, absolutely immaculate and the staff are welcoming and were friendly throughout my stay. The spa facilities are second to none. I used the gym, the swimming pool, the steam room, the sauna and the jacuzzi both nights. I had a mishap while I was there and could not have been better looked after. Will def be back and would absolutely recommend this hotel to others. The local area has lovely walks, everything you need for shopping, eating and drinking in the high street and the busy town of Dundee is only a short drive away. Fab.

« good for a one night stay »

stayed for one night while attending a function in the hotel. Staff helpful and friendly. Breakfast good especially the scrambled eggs which many hotels can't do well. Room clean and quiet. Dinner in the evening well priced and tasty. hotel has leisure facilities which I didn't manage to use.

    2
    « Disappointing »

The Woodlands is the centre of all major events in my family. Unfortunately. The hotel is tired, out of date and poorly decorated. The staff are cold and unfriendly as well as poorly trained. The hotel caters for weddings, a usually happy occasion, although here they always seem to descend into shouting, swearing and fighting at the front entrance making sleep hard to find. The food in the restaurant is reasonable but always auctioned at the table. The serving staff seem incapable of finding a system of identifying who ordered which dish and so you get to beg / put your hand up when offered your food usually from the other side of the table. Poor. There are better hotels in Dundee; try them instead.

    « A really good place »

Had two nights there on Friday and Saturday past. Really nice hotel, friendly service, quiet room - there were weddings on both nights but that did not affect service or quality of service whilst we were there. Lots on parking within the grounds, the staff were very good. Breakfast was very good too with an excellent selection on the buffet and other items cooked to order. My omelette on Sunday morning was really good. Excellent pool, steam room, sauna and jaccuzzi (we did not use the gym but it looked very well equipped. The hotel is a 20 minute walk from the main shopping area of Broughty Ferry. Not too pricey either £83 per night bed and breakfast for the two of us.

    « October stay »

Stayed for one night in room 108. Room clean and homely feel. Clean modern bathroom with shower only. I do prefer baths. Bed was hard but I slept well. Wi-fi was a bit hit and miss. Food was of good standard at a reasonable price without a room service charge which is great. Service was good from all the staff i met. Always choose this hotel when in the area every couple of months.,

    « Lovely hotel »

We stayed at Woodlands Hotel last week and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the breakfasts (there's a large choice and they cater for dietary requirements) and the dinner menu is also good. The room was very comfortable and even though there is building work taking place it did not intrude on our stay. We are very likely to stay there again and would recommend it to friends.

    « A long overdue stay »

My wife and I stayed here three nights as a break. We lived many years ago in Dundee and were on a reunion trip celebrating 50 years together. We booked the Woodlands for its reviews and also because it was well know all these years ago as a quality hotel. Everything was perfect, even with a wedding ceremony and a separate wedding celebration. Comfortable and friendly bar, excellent meals in the dining room, a large bedroom, cleanliness and quality throughout, and fantastic and helpful staff. We loved every minute, and given the importance of our stay, thank all who made it so welcoming and so friendly. "Friendly" - that's the keyword!

Loved this hotel, every time I come to visit my daughter in uni i will be looking to stay here :-) Some hotels ive visited during my tour of universities with my daughter have claimed to be 4*. this one exceeded my expectations, the only fault was that everytime I turned over the headboard banged the wall and woke me up, soon sorted with a cushion behind it. also im not a fan of smoked bacon but this was still good quality bacon. The breakfast menu is extensive and very good quality. please give it a try

I stayed at the Best Western Woodlands Hotel on Tuesday night. I have to say I was most impressed by he staff I have met during my stay. From reception to restaurant and gym, all were very polite courteous and very helpful indeed. I tend to ask off the menu when I am away on business trying to keep to my diet. Not only was the food absolutely delicious but nothing was too much and they catered to my needs wonderfully. I can only recommend that you stay there if you visit Dundee. Top notch!!!!
