Key cards fail Rooms services every 3 days- filthy - stained carpets, chipped furniture, torn wallpaper. Zero WiFi - ‘the hotel is full so signal is being used up. Even at 0530?? Really Mgmt want to argue - they are used to the inferior product

Next to the elegant Victorian facades on Douglas prom this this decayed 1960's concrete monstrosity is like a rotten tooth. Location wise it's good. At the mid point on the Douglas prom. Inside, thankfully it's not as bad as it looks from the outside. The public areas are however dated and worn, but generally clean. There's a flight of two stairs to access the lift which seems bizarre. Anyone with mobility issues probably couldn't use the stairs to use the lift. Beyond this it's a pain carrying luggage up two flights of stairs. I found my room quite poky and claustrophobic for a supposedly twin room. It was also extremely stuffy. Even with the window open and the radiator turned off I struggled to sleep with how stuffy the room got, and bear in mind this was in early April when outside the temperature was in single figures. In hot weather it'd be insufferable. My room faced an enormous delapidated car park and the noise from motorbikes revving and cars was very loud. The sound insulation in my room was terrible. Every bang inside, every vehicle in the car park is really loud, as though the poor 1960's concrete construction amplifies every sound. The WiFi was terrible and kept dropping out to sign back in again. There was a restaurant and a gym which looked decent but I didn't use. If this room was cheaper then I wouldn't complain. It's budget accommodation but asking for mid market prices. I didn't sleep well here what with the noise and the stuffiness of the room. Would I stay again? If I had to. It wasn't terrible. I've stayed in much,much worse. But I do think they overcharge for what is on offer. And sort the wifi out!

Now our regular choice for accommodation when visiting the Island,good sized car park(payable),buses & horse trams stop right outside & we just love the view of Douglas Bay especially from one of their seafront rooms with a balcony. This visit we were in room 421 for 4 nights,large,bright,clean & comfortable. All the staff we met were lovely,the food & service in the Paragon Restaurant was great both at Breakfast & Dinner. The Hotel is now around sixty years old & on previous visits has been showing its age,nice to see on this visit that money has been spent on the place,it does seem better for it,long may it continue!

Stayed at this hotel for a few years. Have to admit its not as good as usual. Rooms could do with having a refit. Dated and worn. The breakfast however was very good as usual. Staff very friendly. Rooms are no longer cleaned every day and only on third day, which to me is a big let down . You have to collect fresh towels from reception.Not sure if if would stay here again which is disappointing.

I booked the hotel as there was a large group going, read the reviews and was not sure what to expect, it was not as bad as I expected, but not the best I have stopped in. Good point about the breakfast: a good old-fashioned fry-up. Points for improvement: the decor is a little tired, generally grubby, stale smell, the wifi kept dropping out, staff quality, room lighting, shower (on the bath), bar serving times, 3 day towel change as standard unless you ask for shorter, poor selection of TV channels, heating did not work, noise from the road, and the coffee at breakfast was beyond description. It is also a bit out of town, about 1500 m/mile. Would I stop here again? Well, probably not, but it is cheap.

I brought my wife here for two nights and I'm glad I chose this hotel. Our sea view room was lovely and the staff were always friendly and attentive. We were happy with the buffet breakfast with all items tasty and kept at just the right temperature. Alternative breakfast choices were available as special orders from the menu. We liked the layout of this hotel and we were very intrigued by its impressive heritage. The island's only casino is currently based here and was originally opened by “James Bond” himself, Sean Connery. It's fair to say that the hotel would definitely benefit from being refreshed and having some renovation. However some has already taken place and I believe further enhancement plans are in the pipeline. We very much enjoyed our time at this well located, charming hotel. We'd definitely come back here without any hesitation.

Happy long-serving staff make every interaction a pleasant experience. Hotel public areas still quite brown and depressing. But money being spent with a new lounge/dining/bar area, sauna, and spin dryer (in pool changing rooms). Food quality very good. No rush at meal times and bar food of good quality served all day. Room very clean with comfy mattress and pillows. So, yes, dated in areas but investment happening and long may that continue.

We stayed here for 2 nights (a Friday and a Saturday) with our little girl. Prior to our stay we had to change our room (due to us adding our little girl on to our stay) and the service I recieved over the phone was very helpful and efficient. I had emailed the hotel to let them know we were landing early and if there was a chance for an early check in (I was doubtful) but when we arrived and checked in we was informed that our room was ready! That really gave us a fantastic start to our stay. Our room was a deluxe double and had the most stunning views from our large window. The room was spacious, clean, had a massive comfy bed and a good selection for hot drinks. We needed the sofa bed making up for our little girl so as we were leaving to start exploring I mentioned to the girl on reception and she said she would arrange it straight away, I also enquired about a fridge to keep my little girls milk in and by the time we had got back from our walk the bed was made and a fridge was in the room! Fantastic service!! The hotel itself was great, we found our way around and all the staff we passed said hi. It offers a lot in terms of entertainment; swimming, cinema, bingo and a casino. The cleaners are fantastic and funny, always made a fuss of our little girl which was nice! We took full advantage of the swimming pool which was perfect and the staff there are great. My partner popped down to the casino for 20 minutes while I was getting my little girl to sleep and he said how much he enjoyed himself. He was given vouchers when we checked in which was a nice touch and something different for him. The location of the hotel is perfect, so many lovely local bars and shops and the beach right on its door step. We hopped on a bus to the next village, which runs regularly and stops right outside the hotel. I have reviewed the restaurant separately, but in short, it was fantastic; both the staff and the food for breakfast and dinner, not forgetting the lovely views! My only tiny and very tiny niggle was that we added and paid for a late check out the morning before our departure, and at first they tried to charge us for another night even though we only wanted to check out at 1:30 and was eventually charged £20 even though it is advertised as £15 on their website. Unfortunately when we went to our room on check out day (after normal check out time) our card didnt work and we had to go and find a cleaner to open our room to save having to go all the way down to reception. It perhaps would've been nice when checking out to be asked how our stay was also, as I was ready to tell them just how much we have enjoyed it. However, this hotel is nothing short of fantastic. It offers great value for money, friendly staff, brilliant food, clean spacious rooms, excellent facilities and ideal location. Thank you Palace hotel and casino for a wonderful stay and we really cannot wait to be back, and we're bringing more with us next time!

very pleasant stay, hotel clean and tidy with very pleasant staff. breakfast had a good variety and was hot with nice views of the bay pool and steam room nice but disappointed jacuzzi not working bar area was pleasant with late bar in Casino would recommend this hotel

Stayed between the 10 - 15 Feb. Hotel did not notify that the Jacuzzi & Sauna were not available. Some navigation needed to access the pool, due to work being carried out. The hotel needs some upgrading to support it being a 4*hotel. In our room, the carpet was worn, cigarette burns to the window board, stains on the curtains! Bedside unit broken. Windows dirty. Basic house keeping / Maintenance required. Good seafront location, loved the steam room. The Weight room is small, but usable. Nice pool. Could overall be a lot better. Shame really.

horrible hotel, horrible breakfast, cheap sausages, boiled mushrooms .room was small our room looked out over the back of the hotel and the room stunk of cooking as we were above the restaurant. best western get your act together and do the place up

The staff were friendly and helpful but the overall feel of the building was that it needs refurbishing and updating. Food was fine but probably won't stay here again and wouldn't recommend staying here either.

Room 418 Toilet does not flush ! Views include 3 industrial style refrigerators which purr all night and rev up every hour ! Breakfast? Have eaten better hospital food !!! Trip advisor please do not recommend ! This hotel is an insult to paying costumers ! Beware

New years eve overnight package. Plus - food was good and plentiful, good breakfast. Dinner service was very efficient. Staff we encountered seemed friendly and helpful. Minus - bedroom was well below standard, scruffy and dated. Threadbare carpet and tatty old chairs, curtains that don't cover whole of the window, some lights in the room don't even work, shower was adequate but far from 4 star, the room was desperately in need of an upgrade and makes you feel like your custom isn't welcome really, it certainly doesn't represent good value for money. Nowhere near 4 star by any stretch in my opinion and experience. Poor quality cheap tea, long waits for bar service and the breakfast buffet. We sat in a horrid partitioned area for breakfast. Not recommended.

We did a 3 day Christmas Package at the Best Western Hotel on the Isle of Man, a wonderful experience. The staff were all so helpful, pleasant and hard working. The food was cooked to perfection, all the meals were most enjoyable

Looked tired on arrival .We had sea view room with big sliding doors. had been refurbished, new carpet etc. Had 6 nights there 14-20 Sept. Ate in hotel every night, food excellent buffet, but all fresh and hot. can recommend. All staff in bar and restuarant could not do enough for you . Manager was mingling the whole time and socialising with guests. Would defo go back. Weather was naff but nothing can be done about that. Thanks to all staff for looking after us.

Nice break, room was sea view with balcony on the 4th floor with views across the front. Room was clean enough and quiet and just what we needed. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was good. Room was just a base for us but couldn't complain about it apart from it looking dated from the outside. Would return.

The Best Western Palace hotel & casino is at a great location and if you get a room facing the promenade (like we did) you get a great view. The hotel is also right near a bus stop so it is very convenient. The rooms are a little dated re: amenities. The service desk staff didn't seem to be very caring or enthusiastic. The cleaning staff were very helpful on the other hand. The hotel does have a casino and one can have some good fun there. We didn't use the restaurant/cafe on premises so can't say much about them.

This hotel is not a four star, it at best possible 2/3 star.......4 star prices not cheap to stay in over the summer. The hotel is tried, would say it needs a complete refit. However the more i think about it the hotel needs knocked to the ground and rebuild.little has change in this 1960 realic. Hotel is dark, unattractive reception. Paint crumbling in stairwell. Carpets are old and dirty. Rooms are tried, rooms are only cleaned every three days when you stay in a room. The hotel spa, sauna, wet room had been out of order for 3 months when i stayed. The corner of the pool was out of bounds covered by a builders sheet completing work on leaking roof. There so much i could right, i think the hotel gets away with poor standards due to the fact that Douglas has very few good hotels stock on offer, and there not enough quality accommodation during the busy summer months. I see on social media this morning Douglas to get a new 80 bebroom hotel, cannot come soon enough, isle of man is a lovely place, i was back on the island again after 38 years, sorry to see that the hotels have not moved with the times.

First impressions of hotel are not great, but actually it's a very nice hotel that needs updating. It's in a lovely location right on the seafront, seafront rooms have a lovely view but are noisy mainly due to the sea! The bedroom was clean, bed comfortable, there is no service in the room for 3 days which I don't mind and if you need extra towels you just ask and they arrive immediately. Breakfast was very nice and staff very helpful. Pool also nice.

The hotel is a little tired, but has character. The staff, location, food are all excellent. The hotel is clean and warm and all staff very welcoming. We will definitely be returning to the hotel in the near future.

It's an old hotel badly in need of updating and refurbishment. Our room was tiny with a very cramped bathroom, the shower had no pressure and there was very little room to set things. On the plus side the bath had a shower mat and grab handle - something you dont get in Premier Inn! The room had a safe but no fridge. There was nowhere in the hotel for guests to meet and sit other than in the bar area. Food was OK. Breakfast was the same each day - juice from concentrates and processed bread, good bacon and excellent kippers could be provided on request. The carvery at night was OK and good value. Nice view overlooking Douglas bay. The staff were all very helpful.

Stayed here for one night. There are 4 stars on the wall outside...should be 2. Staff are ignorant,rooms are small and hot with a fan that doesn't cut through the heat. Room was over car park,so noisy had to shut the window.Would not stay here again if you paid me.

I was at the Paragon Restaurant with my mum this past Sunday and we had a fantastic dinner service, from start to finish. The cold starters were fresh and the roast dinner was delicious. I'd like to especially thank the FOH staff, however, for greeting us warmly, seating us down promptly and being incredibly attentive throughout the whole night. The best hotel staff there is on the island! Thank you so much!

Room functional. Hard mattress needed a quilt or topper tosoften it. Shower over bath was weak. Furnishings aged but clean. Overpriced in my opinion. Didn't try the casino facilities as we weren't interested.

This hotel is in need of a very deep clean, especially carpets. In our room hair stuck to our socks, dreadful experience. Pillows very flat 50/60 mm very little stuffing in some. Back rooms noisy from machinery running with window open for ventilation. Quite depressing sadly especially when many best westerns are good.

It's with a heavy heart that I write this review as the staff are absolutely fabulous and so friendly and this is my hotel of choice on the island but this time there were just too many faults to ignore - The television on the room stopped working and it was replaced quickly but the new one was not much better with intermittent signal. The sauna and steam room were BOTH out of order leaving just a pool and jacuzzi . They have reduced the room cleaning to every third day supposedly to ‘respect my privacy' (which prior to the change I could have organised with a do not disturb sign) so under this reduced level of service on a Monday to Friday break my room is cleaned on a Thursday!- not much point when I'm lee ong Friday and to say the reduced level of service is ‘to be if it me we I get more privacy is just an insult!! In addition we are best western diamond members and not so much as a bottle of water in the room never mind an ‘amenity'

Firstly the good things: we had a spacious room (349) with a good sea view, it was clean and comfortable; and the staff were all pleasant and welcoming. Not so good: it is a very tired hotel, faded pictures, chipped paintwork, threadbare carpets, mould in the corners under the window in our room, and very weak Wi-Fi (almost useless). It all seriously needs updating. The food was poor, so we only had one meal in the hotel, but there are excellent dining options in Douglas. The room was only made up every three days, not really good enough. We've stayed in Best Western many times before and this is the worst one by far.

First visit to Isle of Man and overall think we chose well. The hotel as others have described is not particularly attractive from the front and lacks kerb appeal. There is a large car park at the rear which is pay and display I presume for the pool/gym and cinema. The hotel charged us £8 for the 3 nights we stayed which I felt was reasonable. We had opted for a sea front room and was allocated a room on the 4th floor which had a floor to ceiling window with a door opening onto a narrow balcony just large enough to stand on. The views of Douglas bay were breath taking, unfortunately the window seal had blown so the window was steamed up. The room was big enough for the two of us, bright, clean and had all the usual amenities including, tea, coffee tray, shampoo/body wash etc. I noticed the hairdryer wires looked loose fortunately before I needed to use it and a quick chat with reception had it resolved quickly. We ate in the Paragon Restaurant as we were on bed and breakfast and it was great no issues at all very good choice of continental and full english items. We decided to eat in the restaurant one evening which is very good value and again iy is buffet style you can chose from having 1, 2 or 3 courses and we enjoyed it. We also had a take away from on the onsite Chinese restaurant on evening which was great and was warm enough to sit outside at 9pm on their outside tables. We did try our luck at the casino as we were given a couple of vouchers at check in and all the staff we encountered were really friendly, bar prices reasonable unfortunately we did feel the slot machines were some of the oldest we have come across in a long time (more arcade type still paying out in pound coins) but good fun. Would definitely recommend the hotel and will return.

Sadly this hotel is very dated it doesn't seem to have changed in the years I have been staying here. The staff are surly and obviously don't enjoy their jobs (one was quite abrupt and rude to a guest waiting to be attended too). I had an issue with the booking made through Booking.com called the hotel, followed by two emails no one bothered to come back to me resulting in me having to pay for an extra night and breakfast for 5 days I didn't eat. The policy of this hotel is only to service the bedrooms every 3 days unless you request at reception each morning; there is no mention of this policy when you make the booking. Poor value for money

although the hotel is a little dated the service, pool and staff were excellent. We stayed for 4 nights and had a great time. 10 min walk to Douglas town, recommended eateries Barbary Coast, Naadu Indian. Also worth a drink at the Sefton Hotel on the way into the town.

On arrival I reminded reception I had two autistic young men which I had booked a twin room for them.We had been told they had to change rooms for one night but it turned out they were moved three times in two days .Second day they were checked out and were told their room wouldnt be available until three.They were checked out at 11 am.On questioning reception they apparently had no knowledge of any special needs.Travel agent and myself had made sure they were aware of autism.Needless to say the boys were confused and upset.Receptionist I have to say needs a lot of training especially be made aware to not roll her eyes and mutter at a paying guest who has every right to be upset.On leaving our ferry wasnt until 7.30 in the evening.Manager said we could stay to noon at the latest.11.20 reception phoned the room and told us we were twenty minutes over our time.when I explained we were allowed to stay until twelve.She went to check and the next thing the line went dead she had hung up.We had just had enough our luggage was already in the car so we left the room.On the way out I spoke to the manager told him this was was the second time the hotel had messed up Of course I got the apologies.This was my son and his friend's first real holiday.As a mum I was so glad my son who is 18 had decided to come with us.Not the best first experience .This was our 5th wedding anniversary and because we had spent our three day honeymoon in the hotel.On arrival five years ago we were given keys to a room which on request was meant to be seaview and a double room.The room we got was overlooking the car park and it was a twin room.On speaking to reception housekeeping came and pushed the two beds together.On the sunday afternoon we were moved to the requested seaview room.We were due to leave monday morning.I am really disappointed thought the honeymoon had been a genuine mistake but not now after this experience.

A business trip, booked as part of a BA ‘Holiday' for one night only. The deluxe room looked over the front, which was pleasant enough and everything in the room worked as it should, though the window was only a tilting type and the only available air on, apart from a fan in the wardrobe. As previous commentators have noted, the walls are paper-thin and noise can be a nuisance. The hotel looks grotesque from the outside, which means that being inside, at least you don't have to look at it ! Overall the place is tired, exhausted in fact and it really could do with a complete refurb. Having said that, the bed and bathrooms were adequate and clean. Breakfast was so-so. All self-service, which means dried out products, though the plates etc were cleared away quickly enough. Just about 3 stars then, but I wouldn't go back.

A last minute trip to the Island for our Wedding Anniversary,this place has pretty much become our 'go to' place when we are there since our visit in 1977,mainly due to it's large car park. No car with us this time so I did consider booking somewhere nearer the town centre but nowhere came near the price for a sea front room which we find essential in Douglas! We were in room 201,unusual for us we usually seem to be in rooms as far from reception as you can go! The room was large & bright,it seemed to have been recently decorated but still had the fixtures & fittings which have been there for some years,we just love having the balcony opening up with the view over Douglas Bay. Down points would have to be that the place is showing it's age,the bed in our room seemed small,shame as there is plenty of room for a King Size in there & a new system to us where your room is only serviced every 3 days,didn't really cause us any problems as we were always able to get anything we wanted from the Room Attendant or from Reception. We ate in the Paragon Restaurant one night,we both had the Manx Broth & The Moroccan Lamb Tagine,it was all delicious! We were on a Bed & Breakfast arrangement,Best Western had an offer on of 'Free Breakfast' when we booked,it was excellent,buffet style with Kippers,Poached Eggs or Porridge available to order,ezxcellent food although curiously it cost £20 extra for the Free Breakfast so not really free but great value for money for the 2 of us for 4 days!

A piece of plastic rubbish was under the table on arrival and still here after room had been 'cleaned' on 3 occasions! by the time we left. Intermittent shower pressure most mornings in with equipment that could have been changed to a walk-in facility decades ago. Visit was for transport festival only. Much better hotels in other European countries.

A good location 2/3rds along the bay from the Sea Terminal and a bus/tram stop outside. Although not an attractive building on the outside, it gives good quality food and accommodation on the inside with the added advantage of a good leisure pool and fitness centre. Excellent value for money, quality breakfast and very efficient staff.

I had the best stay in this hotel. All the staff were genuinely lovely people. Be warned - the Deluxe rooms are adjoining rooms and have connecting doors to the room next door, so they're designed for families. You can hear everything - and I mean everything. The door is not sound proof. I complained to the manager who was fantastic. The hotel was full which meant the only way I could get any sleep was to be moved to a downgraded room. I didn't care. Peace and quiet are more important to me than views and decor. I was also given free breakfasts for the duration of my stay. The food is absolutely delicious. Breakfast and dinner are buffet style and the food is as good as you would cook yourself. I treated myself to room service (why not?!) and the presentation of my meal was excellent. The casino was fantastic. Locals use it too as it's the only casino on the Isle of Man. A wonderful atmosphere with great staff too who are genuinely friendly and always have a chat. The hotel also has a gym, a swimming pool, a jacuzzi, a cinema and other excellent facilities. Although my room was downgraded everything was clean and fresh just as it was in the Deluxe room. I honestly couldn't find fault with anything, and for me that's saying something! I will definitely return and thank you to all the staff who made my holiday so special.

Really enjoyed our stay at this hotel, had everything under one roof, room service was great, staff friendly and hotel parking was great for us as we didnt want to leave our car on the front and have to move it every two hours.

This is by far the worst 4 Star ?????? I have ever stayed in . Reception staff offel they don't want to be there not even a hello when you come to hotel or have a good day when you are going out for day . Bedrooms offel very dated small and definitely not 4 star . Rooms cleaned ??? Every 3rd day if you need towels you have to ask. Evening meal alright but again staff seem to have a lot of difficulties understanding what you are saying.Asking for a pot of tea is a big ask I can tell you again this service is not 4 star..spa and gym very dated and in bad need of refurbishment. The Hotel needs to re rate it self 3 star and that's a push. Waste of money .stay away from room 337 and the buzzing noise will never be back to this hotel even for free. All and all on my way home from an offel holiday which I worked all year to pay for . Every thing about this hotel is just 2. 5 star at best don't waste your money . Maybe a bit shabby, probably this Hotel has seen better days, but still, it is a great hotel, rooms are nice and great sea view. Staff is very nice and fast, always polite. Food was also quite accommodating and substantial. We enjoyed our stay here a lot and we would definitely recommend it.

My wife and i have just returned from a seven day holiday at this hotel .. Everything about it was spot on , the sea view room ,the staff ,the breakfast and the 2 evening meals we had in the restaurant ,, We also visited the pool and jacuzzi which was great being able to have a sea view also .. The only downside for us was the lack of musical entertainment ,but we found some in the nearby Rutland and Hydro hotels .. Thank you for a very enjoyable stay ... Ian And Christina

Good location. Great gentleman on reception. Great breakfast staff. Bar menus decent, though not advertised in hotel, only the restaurant menu is. Room clean enough, though bathroom bit grimy. Carpets need updated, pool, jacuzzi good, tho be aware you need to pay a deposit for a towel which we were not advised of.

I booked a ‘deluxe' room which was certainly not deluxe. The furniture was marked the bathroom was dirty/dusty the grouting needed changing and the wall marked.. it certainly needs some TLC in 3 days we saw no cleaners

A great place to stay if you are visiting the Isle of Man. The staff are fantastic, very pleasant and helpful. Good quality breakfast, with a wide choice. Only makes down as the decor could do with updating away from the bar etc, but very clean.

Staff at this hotel were all lovely and helpful especially Cindy on reception and one of the night time duty managers (didn't get his name but from Liverpool) Casino staff working the tables were also very friendly as were the bar staff in the casino and normal restaurant. Food was really nice in the restaurant. We had the pizza, burger, jacket potato, salads(on different days) The morning breakfast was delicious buffet style The room was good double bed, with tv and little office table, bathroom with shower over the bath (little difficult to work out the taps) Great stay! Would recommend as close to the ferry terminal and the centre. Would definitely recommend visiting the Manx museum whilst in Douglas

My wife, daughter, son-in-law and I went there to celebrate the New Year. Monica the manager was oustanding nothing was too much trouble. Food, hotel and entertainment were brilliant. Will be going again this year.

It was a nice couple of days stay in this hotel, attending a New Years Eve party too. The location is not bad. Facing the promenade and the sea. The casino is small. I think you have to get some sort of a membership to use the Casino. The hotel is on the older side and charming in a way. The rooms are normal size for European standards and I had a good nights sleep. The reception is pretty friendly and so are most of the staff. A health club is attached to the hotel and it has a pool, a gym, a sauna and jacuzzi. The front of the hotel facing the promenade has a Chinese restaurant and shops. The hotel is within walking distance of the city of Douglas. If you like to walk, you could walk to almost any location in Douglas. The sunrise view from the room was soothing to the eye and spectacular. In the morning you will catch a lot of folks walking with their dogs on the beach.

Excellent value for money, Hotel staff helpful and courteous. Meals well presented and food of a high standard. Enjoyed use of the leisure facility: good-sized pool, jacuzzi, steam and sauna rooms. Drink prices very reasonable.

Good quality hotel, i paid extra for a sea view and glad we did as i got a beautiful sunrise. The hotel room was very cold when I first got in it and found the radiator was totally full of air, so I spent 10 minutes venting it all out and then it was toasty hot, I know my 35 years as an heating engineer would come in useful at some point. The room, bed and pillows were clean and comfy but the bathroom was very cramped, especially when sat on the toilet. The shower curtain was fitted halfway across the bath so showering space was very limited. Free Wi-Fi was ok but not very fast. Breakfast was very good and plentiful so didn't go hungry. All in all it was a good clean hotel and I would stay again if passing.

Had to say this, just checked in at the Palace Best western Douglas. After a long journey and a rocky crossing what you need is a friendly smile, happy,welcoming face, and that is exactly what i got. Cindy is amazing!!! Just what a hotel needs at front of house, to the point im going to cancel my rooms in another hotel later in week and staying here!! Lol.. Thank you Cindy xx

We booked the winter special deal, and paid extra for a sea view room, as a birthday treat for me… The hotel itself is a bit dated but our stay was faultless - 3 course evening meal, overnight stay in an immaculately clean room and an excellent breakfast, couldn't ask for more for the price! Will definitely take advantage of this deal again.

I stayed in room 218 for 3 nights. The room smelt funky. The toilet bowl was messy. Shower head and taps unclean. Safe wasn't initially working. I was staying 3 nights doing TT things with mates so couldn't be bothered changing rooms. Breakie snd Bar perfect

The hotel is a little out dated the curtains was ripped, the carpet was disgusting, the room it self was old fashioned, the shower was like what my nan had at home hotels are supposed to be luxurious there was nothing luxurious about this and the food was like military food, Wi-Fi didn't even work, mattress was hard as bricks. There was dust everywhere. The whole place needs a refurbishment Very old fashioned and out dated

A(n) hotel of two halves. To be honest I didn't pay but was booked following a flight cancellation. Quite simply the best room and best view of the hotels I have had in the Island. The room was modern lodge style, ie you wouldn't say it had atmosphere but did have space. It was clean and well maintained. Overall the hotel is ok but getting on and from the outside an aesthetic disaster. The hotel is let down by its restaurant which used to be good. It is now largely a buffet and managed a quite awful lasagne. This perhaps reflects the split of guests - oldies eating in and bikers eating out. Breakfast was quite the weakest on the Island. But its well above average on accommodation.

This hotel is not highly rated. While we accept most hotels would have suffered due to the Pandemic, the lack of investment here stems from decades ago. The beds/mattresses are in a shocking state and should have been upgraded a long time ago! The rest of the hotel could do with a thorough clean and refurbishment, although we did get the feeling this was accepted as a Isle of Man norm, I'm not sure

We booked a long weekend for 6 adults to watch the Manx Grand Prix. Perfect location for exploring and getting transport to view the TT course. Hotel was a little tired decor-wise. Staff were lovely and helpful, excet there was a member of staff at breakfast that was rude to a colleague in front of us, which we thought was very uncalled for and unnecessary, especially in front of us. Breakfast food was lovely, nice selection. Room was clean.

Booked this last year for the classic TT, overall a really good choice,breakfast buffet was excellent,car park good and free for motorcycles , rooms clean,facilities great,the pool,and steam room was great to chill after being on the bike all day , easy to find , good atmosphere in bar and prices pretty good, would definitely stay again,only gripe , the mattress on my bed was I think last used in Papillon by Steve McQueen , it was terrible ,about 3inch thick and very uncomfortable , hotel is in need a good refurb but for a motorcycling jaunt with the lads it was perfect , as were the staff

Stayed at this hotel whilst on a Shearings/Leger Tour. Our room overlooked the sea with french windows, lovely view. Everything you would need in a room even an iron and ironing board. Everywhere very clean, room was cleaned when we left the notice Please Clean. The dining room was large catering just for the tour, food good and plentiful with hot plates (which you don't find everywhere) the staff couldn't do enough for you always pleasant and a credit to the hotel. All in all a good hotel, yes it does need refurbishment, but that didn't deter from the stay that we had and would go again if we wanted to go back, the main restaurant looked very nice overlooking the sea.

Lovely clean room with great sea view and excellent room service . Good breakfast with large choice and friendly staff . Brilliant bar and restaurant with nice food at reasonable prices and same friendly staff . Large car park at the rear of the building .Only one small criticism NO hot water only Luke Warm so ditch the bath and silly plastic shower curtain ( which sticks to you) and install a shower cubicle . Would recommend staying here.

Had a lovely trip and found it to be a good base for exploring. The decor was slightly dated but it was very clean. The staff were friendly and breakfasts provided a good choice and quality. Swimming pool and leisure facilities excellent. We will happily return.

Nice hotel , could really do with a facelift. Breakfast was very good plenty of choice. Evening meal was not the best. The soup and the cold meats were quite good, but the main course was far from good. It was extremely warm when we were there, but could not leave the window open at night because of the large very noisy fans outside our windows. Great location.

It was 20 degrees but the underfloor heating was on! The window only opened two inches.No other ventilation.It was like trying to sleep in a sauna!The public areas look down-at-heel but the room was clean.

Although the food was excellent overall the hotel would benefit from a refurb as some of the general public areas were looking shabby. The carpet in the corridor was threadbare, in our room the carpet was OK but the bit over the pipe work was different. To be honest that was the biggest issue how run down the hotel both inside and out didn't look inviting

The Best Western Palace Hotel & Casino is in a great location overlooking Douglas Bay, the hotel itself is a bit tired in it's appearance and could do with a bit of investment in decorations etc. This was the base for our 7 day exploration of the Isle of Man, it is perfectly located walking distance from the centre of Douglas and far enough out for parking to not be an issue if the hotel car park is full. There are (as with many hotels) good and bad parts to this review: The bad: as mentioned it is a bit tired, restaurant service can be a bit haphazard sometimes fully attentive at others we were left with used plates from previous courses of the meal piling up on our table. We felt the evening restaurant menu was poor with a choice of 3 dishes plus a fish and a vegetarian option. We ended up eating out most nights. Staff asking if you would like a drink but not bothering to present the wine list - I've always been a bit rubbish at telepathy so I had to ask what I had a choice of... The internet drove me mad, randomly logging you out and forgetting the access credentials, I spent more time logging in than using the sevice - stick with 4G! The Good: The room was big (not massive) sufficient for two, well appointed and clean. Housekeeping were excellent all cheerful with nothing too much trouble. The price was good, certainly on a par for the standard of hotel. The Breakfast choices were very good - especially the Manx Kippers option which were cooked just as we like them In summary go with reasonable expectations and you shouldn't be dissapointed, the Ritz it aint but as a mid priced hotel it's fine..

Don't judge a book by its cover.....or a hotel. Yes this hotel does look a bit dated and shabby on the outside but its not like that on the inside - lovely room, lovely bar, superb breakfast and a gorgeous swimming pool with a view to die for. We've stayed here twice now and will be back!

Plus points - great location, helpful staff, good food both in the hotel and the Majestic Chinese restaurant below, and a friendly bar. But it is such a tired looking hotel, both from the front and particularly the back. The standard room was small, and therefore so was the bed. And there still wasn't room for a side table on both sides of the bed. VERY thin walls / interlocking doors, carpet in the room and in the corridors was in poor condition, and there was constant noise throughout the night from the air conditioning - presumably for the casino. The internet signal was fine, but having to prompt devices to forget the connection each day and then re - register and then re - insert the code isn't terribly convenient.

We booked this hotel for it's closeness to the promenade in Douglas and that it had a pool as we as a family really enjoy a hotel pool together. However on arriving at the hotel it was a shock to see the hotel and not in a good way. The photos online do not reflect the reality. This hotel is stuck the 80's and very much in need of a cosmetic overhaul. For a hotel that houses a casino, which we did visit and enjoyed, it should really have the look of style and sophistication. This hotel looked shabby and dirty. There were parts of the hotel that did look good but all in all it does need a revamp. Our rooms were comfortable and the en-suite bathrooms were clean. All staff that we encountered were extremely welcoming and friendly. In particular I mention Chrissie in the restaurant at breakfast. Breakfast was good with a variety cereals, yoghurts, muffins, croissants all lovely but the cooked breakfast was just alright. The sausages mostly were tasteless and lukewarm and the fried eggs rubbery. Although that said I did order poached eggs, one of the days, which were perfect. Coffee was also lovely. We did not eat in the hotel restaurant but did eat at the Chinese Restaurant located on the ground floor - the Majestic Chinese Restaurant. The food there was lovely as was the inside of the restaurant. The outside again as with the hotel needed an update. If I had taken photos I would be posting them but unfortunately I did not take any photos of the hotel. If we were to visit the Isle of Man I can say that I wouldn't be visiting this hotel again. On one night we visited the Empress Hotel and we very impressed with it's decor both inside and out. If we were to return I would look at staying at that hotel.

The hotel is a little sad but was better than I expected from previous reviews. We had a seaviw room which was clean not spotless . Carpet stank which affected the room Beds comfortable Shower was weary Breakfast very good , bar food good , food in private dining room average and to think an animal died for the beef that was served Staff pleasant and helpful Needs money spending on it then it would be good .It is not expensive

Our room was at the back of the hotel, right above an extractor fan which trundled away noisily till midnight despite being told it would go off at 10. Our room was spotless inside despite the faded curtains and wear worn carpet, though the outside of the windows were filthy The tables in the bar were often left laden with empty plates and glasses and were sticky. The barman were untidy, if you could find one. One barman came to move a table and took great care walking around a chip that had been dropped on the floor instead of picking it up. We were in a coach group and had a private dining room but we were wedged into tables that were not big enough . The food was nice but repetitive and one of our party opted for the fish option, only to have to wait over an hour for it. The staff were untrained and would start clearing one table only to move to another before it was finished. If I had not been to a Best Western before that was a far better standard, I would certainly think twice about using one again.

This allegedly 4* venue is well past it's best. Dodgy hot water, dodgy WIFI, overcrowded breakfast restaurant, no guest lounge, heavily promoted health club not even in the same building, no smoking rooms smelled of cigarettes, reception and housekeeping phones not answered. Great location, good breakfast, good sea view.

This older Best Western is over due a make over. A big sea front hotel with great veiws across the bay (from the front of the hotel) and rubbish bin/ car park veiws from the back rooms, so get a front one ! Small resturant (for the hotel size) and a small bar to match. Was not expecting it to be "buffet" eating, but it was, food was OK. Bar service was on and off due to there being only one person on duty most of the time. Rooms are "old style" Best Western and in need of an update. The pushed together twins to make a king, was confortable enough and the linen was clean and serviceable. Rooms not very well sound proofed and the windows are long past their sell by date. Curtains did not stop the sun coming in during the early morning ! Why they have not installed a fix for the shower curtain, I have no idea, it was a cuddle every time. Shower it self, poor. Did not use the casino, or health club, but had nice meal in the attached chinese resturant.

The thing that makes this hotel is the staff everyone we have met has been helpful and friendly, they really do go above and beyond. If it wasn't for them you wouldn't be so forgiving for how dated and tired the hotel is looking. It desperately needs updated which is a real shame as it has the potential to be something far better than what it currently is. Breakfast is a buffet, the kitchen will make you poached eggs, Manx kippers and porridge on request. There is plenty of choice and everything on the buffet which is cooked was hot which I sometimes find isn't always the case on buffets. The bedrooms whilst clean could do with a lick of paint and updated. The housekeepers are fantastic they gave my son plenty of extra biscuits and took time to have a chat with him. Often forgotten and over looked for how hard they work. The swimming pool is a great size and has lovely views over Douglas bay. Just don't go at 7am and swim where the old lady with the swim hat clearly usually does as she will shout at you and tell you to get out of her way. Clearly thinks she owns the place. I would stay at this hotel again because we regularly come up the TT and the staff are so fantastic. Update the hotel and I would stay out of TT. Currently off to stay at the sister hotel The Sefton for the rest of our stay and see how that compares.

When we drove up to the hotel, my heart sank a little. The hotel and casino looked very tired and to be honest a little tatty from the outside. However when we booked in the staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was very comfortable. The food was very good and the serving staff were great. There is also a really good Chinese restaurant attached. the swimming pool is good, and the hotel location is just a brisk walk from Douglas town centre, a cinema is right by as well. All in all an enjoyable stay and would recommend. If only Best Western just invested in a lick of paint on the outside and updated a bit inside it would be great.

We stayed here for three nights. Our room was small but fairly comfortable. Carpet and beds very old and threadbare. No electric plug by bedside so bit annoying to put your phone further away. Breakfast was good. Staff were all pleasant. We would stay again but price needs to be reduced to reflect the hotel.

My bedroom was meant for two people but there was only one drawer each for all our clothes.. The decor was tired looking throughout the hotel and the carpet in my room was worn in places. There was no table service in the restaurant, even for dinner. The dinner menu was limited and uninspiring. If you wanted a healthy breakfast instead of the fry-up on the buffet you could order from the kitchen but again the choice was extremely limited. My poached eggs on toast came with two quarters of unbuttered toast. Definitely not 4* service and the hotel should be down-graded to 3*.

Nice hotel though in need of some decorating. No lounge or comfy seating just bar and restaurant which was disappointing. Staff helpful and friendly. Overall a nice place and for the price we paid it was good value.

Staff are fantastic, the food is also fantastic but the decor and carpets whilst clean are very tired. I'm from the IOM and remember this hotel when it was new and it's sad to see it now please refurb management

Friendly welcoming hotel that is child friendly. The pool had opening times that allowed children access during the day from 10 until 7 and full access at weekends plenty of time to get in a daily swim. The family room offers great value when travelling with one child.

All but one member of staff we met were brilliant and couldn't do enough for us, friendly, helpful and made the stay very enjoyable from an efficient late check in after a late ferry to Chrissy who looked after us at breakfast brilliantly. The only member of staff we met who didn't meet these high standards was the make South African Restaurant Manager who rudely made my wife wait whilst he went past first. The rooms were very small for the 4 Star stature of the Hotel and was more of Blackpool proportion sized rooms, the bath a horrible shape you couldn't stand flat in with a poorly positioned shower curtain that wrapped round you every time you tried to use the week inadequate shower. The room however was clean and nearly practical even though beds and pillows weren't the comfiest. We only ate food in the hotel at breakfast but on the whole this was reasonable and a good way to start the day with the only off putting feature was at 10am on the dot the Chef taking food away even before some people had finished with items, also wearing A TT Hoody whilst doing this wasn't too professional. The poached eggs were brilliant, even fried eggs left under the hot plate were some of the best I've had from this great variety buffet. Now to a pet hate, many hotels charge for parking because they've sold off the use of their car parks to an independent firm however this hotel owned the car park and used it to squeeze another £4/day out of guests and whilst this may have been mentioned in the small print on their website we booked through booking.com and no mention was made. Just left a sour taste. Overall an enjoyable stay and would stay again but know now exactly what to expect.

Stayed at this hotel for third time because of the views across Douglas Bay, the foodm buffet breakfast which is superb and the friendliness and relaxed atmosphere. Also nice swimming pool and spa. Plentiful parking.

Second time staying here, second time just as good as the first. Staff are very friendly and the quality of food was excellent. Only thing I'd say is it could do with a bit of a revamp in reception area

Stayed for a midweek family break with the kids. First time on the island and hotel. Wonderful experience, great food and room, staff so friendly and helpful. Particular shout out to Monika, Simon and Gareth. Will definitely be going back!

Very convenient and good value for Half Board on a business stay. Good central location, staff excellent and good value. Hotel fabric is rather tired and in places decor is rather dark and dated. Carpets are quite worn, but made up by friendly, helpful staff, cleanliness, and good value meals etc. Better to park on the road than in the car park which is £4.00 for 24 hrs.

Stayed on a dinner, bed & breakfast deal with my wife and friends of ours which was unbelievable value for money. The food at dinner was delicious, the staff particularly in the restaurant were excellent, and breakfast the next day was equally as good. The hotel is in need of a facelift and money needs to be spent on the property but it is clean and we had great sea views from our room. The leisure facilities are more than adequate for a few nights' stay and overall I couldn't fault the hotel apart from it needs refurbishing hence only 4 and not 5 stars!

We found the hotel to be fine for a short break, a little bit tired and dated in parts and in need of a refurb. However the rooms were clean and a decent size, the pool is large with great views over the bay. Breakfast is superb and we thought the staff were wonderful. Would probably stay again.

These have been hard times we should all now be embracing smiling and warmth this hotel still has a lot of catching up to do. My first trip to the Ilse of Man in a long time I really enjoyed it. The hotel is central and was a good base overlooking the sea. It is in need of smartening up and gives off a drab feeling. Its title gives an impression of quality but the price did not deliver

I stayed here for 9 nights alongside my 1 year old son. I felt very comfortable and when requests were put to the staff, they were amazing at meeting these. I love having access to the pool, although i feel there needs to be more clear information as to opening times for babies and children. i took my son to the spa one night to be told we couldn't go in as it was 7pm. I wouldn't have minded had it been clearer. i have stayed here many times and likely will continue to do so. there does need to be some investment into the general hotel itself, but overall it is very clean.

Last time I stayed at this hotel was fourth yeas ago then it was a five star hotel. It may not be so now but it is situated right on the sea front and the views are great the breakfast is good must try the kippers the staff are all very helpful

This is our 3rd time here. We come over for a pool event with the IPA. Always enjoy our stay, staff are great, nothing too much trouble. Nice view of the sea at breakfast. Food is fine, good selection Overall just a great weekend had every time.. Thanks and see you in November again

My wife and I booked for our anniversary, the staff were polite and helpful. The hotel has certainly seen better days. The seating in the bar area was worn out and uncomfortable, the room and corridors smelt and had paint flaking off with prevalent damp. In my option this hotel requires a major revamp before guests should be allowed to stay. The evening meal was good but the breakfast was poor to say the least This is not a hotel I would recommend or re-visit

I have just booked for 3 nights, after 1 night i have checked out and moved hotels. The room was filthy i changed rooms only to find the 2nd room was even worst. The whole hotel is run down and shambolic, the spa facility is dirty and unkept shocking shame on you Best Western

We booked for a party of seven 4adults and three children Excellent service, and excellent meal, staff were fantastic nothing was too much trouble even going to get one of my grandaughter and ice cream instead of cake for her sweet after lunch, but the on a whole it was a loverly day , considering what the island was going though Covid wise , but the best of it was we had one grandaughter Who has learning difficulties and the staff where fantastic with her even going and getting a spare seat for her to put her doll on so thank you palace hotel first class service we will be back again this year for either Christmas Day or New Year's Day Sue Wells and Vickie Thomas Douglas

My dad and I stayed in this hotel for four nights in November, and it had everything we needed for our stay. The on-site gym and swimming pool was a big selling point for us, given that this is one of only two hotels in Douglas to have these facilities. The staff were friendly and accommodating, while the food was consistently excellent too. As others have said, the decor is a bit outdated and the building could do with a lick of paint here and there, but we left with no complaints after our stay.

Weekend deal - B&B, Dinner and Room all included bargain really nice & clean and good food and service - shame the bar was shut :( Would recommend for the weekend deal anyway at least Restaurant discounted the additional cost of a steak as wasn't quite cooked to order which was very kind of them

Good Location but a very dilapidated, sad and run down hotel. Rooms were dirty be careful not to drop anything as it comes back up covered in dirt and hair. Bed valances were torn and visibly dirty. Broken curtains. Internet works well we had no trouble streaming. Shower was very dated but worked well. Bathroom old and shabby like the room. Staff were friendly and tried hard to help. Had to move to three different rooms before found one that didn't smell or have dirty, old, torn bedding. Best Western shame on you for charging what you do for this property it is very run down. Please do not book this until they update it.

Visiting a Holiday season Hotel out of season is always likely to not show the venue in its best light, and this one was certainly no exception out of season ! An idyllic location slightly tarnished by unexceptional front of house staffing who displayed nothing particulalrly bad, but also nothing exceptionally praiseworthy.

This stay was very good value for money,. After reading reviews on Tripadvisor I felt a little concerned- I needn't have worried. The room was lovely- very clean with everything I needed. The bed was very comfortable with good quality linen and bathroom very clean and in good condition with plenty of fluffy towels. Covid restrictions meant the room wasn't attended during my stay but this wasn't a problem and if I needed anything extra it was available Only minor criticism was that the leather sofa was a little tired looking - but very comfortable! . Room staff were keen to offer any extra beverages as needed. The breakfast was plentiful and with a good choice and waiting staff very helpful. Thanks to all for an enjoyable stay.

I've been here with my family for two days. Enough for visit the island itself. Bad weather so most of the time we were at the hotel. Will for sure appreciate the amazing check in of the receptionist on 17 October in the early morning. We arrived at 6am with our little son and he manage to get us a room at least to sleep few hours till our room wasn't ready. 5 stars only for him. For the rest is a bit no. The rooms itself are good just that the carpets are old so you feel like there are a million of germs inside there especially if you are walking from bathroom to bedroom and you don't have any flip flop. Horrible. Cleaning service quiet good, at least they try their best. Food of restaurant didn't manage to try. One last thing the receptions of the pool are quiet rude, expecially second day that the pool was under some work and it supposed to be open from morning till 5pm came there at 10 at the girl just was in about to trough me outside showing me a paper that there was a lesson of some lady's inside till 12. Okay I say can you activate at least the card so I will come back at 12. She say in arrogant way NO you need to come back and also to sign. Is okay to explain at least in a nice way but how she explain to me was so rude that so nice to share. There were some items for my kid for swim but obviously it was a no to take them due that were only for customers of the gym, and so of the swimming pool. The average of the hotel itself is 3 stars but also could be less.

Plenty of excellent amenities, pool ,gym ,casino ,restaurants , cinema, bingo. At a reasonable price. Rooms need updated as carpet worn and thread bare in places. Outside looks dated and run down. Staff and services excellent.

This is a nice hotel, it's big, warm and comfortable and even includes a car park. Other hotels will tell you there is plenty of free on-road parking, however, getting a space is just about impossible. 0ur room was a suite, it was huge with a large separate lounge area and a nice sized bedroom and of course a bathroom. The room was quite dated and really could do with a refurb. Or even just new furniture to replace the worn-out park benches. The hotel has a nice restaurant and the food is really quite good all be it a little expensive. That said, we ate there every night. The thing that did stand out more than anything else for me was the staff. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for you. Nothing was too much trouble and that also include the lovely room cleaners. They were also very friendly and polite and helpful. But one lady really stood out for us and it turns out it was the first shift of her new job. That was a lady called Millie, she was lovely, friendly and polite. She came over to our table during our dinner to ask if everything was ok and make sure we had everything we needed and ended up chatting with us for a few minutes. She was brilliant and will be a great asset to this hotel. So to sum up, a nice hotel with nice rooms and facilities and wonderful staff. The only thing that stopped me from going 5 stars is the dated rooms. I highly recommend this hotel

The food and leisure facilities were excellent although the room decor needed updating. Happy friendly staff where on hand throughout. Excellent family friendly hotel. The rooms were a bit hot during the night although a fan was provided in the room.

Great weekend at the palace , yes it's a little dated and when you arrive !!! Not the best arrival in a taxi ,maybe a tidy up of the car park and outside entrance is long overdue !! However the cheerful friendly staff on arrival where wonderful , our room was immaculate, beds really comfy and the sea view wonderful , breakfast was plentiful hot and delicious, and the servers where all friendly and given how busy it was kept the flow of guest moving wonderfully . The pool and spa facilities are more than adequate for a swim , sauna and jacuzzis !! Which in a wet rainy day is welcome .. great position on the prom ,buses outside are amazing and take you all over the island all in all great stay thanks guys

Booked bed and breakfast deal, food was lovely well worth it . Had a deluxe double with sea view. Plenty of tea coffee, hot chocolate even bottles of water, complimentary toiletries too. The only thing i can fault it was the lack of sockets in the room. The sockets were on one side of the room so you couldn't charge your phone up by the bedside which was a pain when you are using them as an alarm. We were given a £5 voucher for roulette in the casino on check in. was a bit disappointed in the casino hardly any tables were working and seemed a bit boring, if you sat at the table you couldn't see what was happening on the roulette wheel so there was much atmosphere.

Very run down but price was reasonable. Food in restaurant was good . Staff nice also. Pity this place was let go so much . Could be a fine hotel if a few quid was spent on a face lift. Pool was nice but that's about it

Great location/views, hard working polite professional staff. Great food, nice public area, lovely indoor swimming pool and fitness suite. The rooms are spotless and comfortable, with all the expected amenities - tea/coffee, TV, internet, steam iron, hair dryer etc however all rooms are tired and much in need of a makeover. Sea view rooms are worth the extra money. They are slightly bigger, have a patio door / balcony and the most wonderful views of Douglas Bay.

From the time we got to the Palace Hotel to the time we left the experience was second to none. Rooms not large, but adequate. Clean and tidy. Food was amazing, particularly the evening buffet, which was a colourful explosion of fruit, cold meats, cold fish, various salads and much, much more. Staff very professional and courteous. Nothing was too much trouble for them.

Popped over to the island for a few days relaxing and that is exactly what we had. Great hotel, excellent food and super staff. The casino was a naughty distraction from a nice stroll along the promenade. Tough choice

Wish they could do the room and consider people visting and want to stay in a nice place. I have used many other Best Western, this is the worse I have come accross. Don't bother to get a sea view room, window was so dirty didn't really want to stand near it. Very hot , no aircondittioner only a small fan, very disappointed to what i paid

Last stayed here when it was a Hilton, a long time ago. Yes, the grand dame is showing her age so I won't repeat previous reviewers but what a wonderful place it still is. Breathtaking views, great food and clean, comfortable rooms. Outstanding staff are the key attraction, especially Monika and Chrissy - unfailingly friendly and professional. Nothing was too much trouble. Can't wait to return!

We have come to the Isle of Man on our 1st holiday since December 2019. For a couple who will typically travel overseas 3 - 4 times a year, this is a very anticipated break. We chose this hotel due to location, cost, flexibility on cancellation policy and quite importantly, for us car parking. As other reviewers have mentioned the hotel is incredibly tired and very overdue an upgrade. The telephones in the room still have the name of the restaurant that left when Hilton did!! If proper care and attention is given to the rooms and public areas, this hotel could shine again. The hotels location is wonderful, it is a 10 minute walk into Douglas centre. The walk is along the prom, which again will be wonderful once finished!!! As a rule we like to try different restaurants whilst we are on holiday, but I do have to say that the food at the hotel is truly yummy. I have been spoilt by their hand cut chips, all other hand cut chips will be judged by their standard from now on! We have only eaten at the bar, not in the restaurant. The bar it self is quite bleugh, no atmosphere, and fairly surly bar staff. Our serious issue has been with the car parking situation!!! As mentioned at the start of the review this was terribly important to us as we had come by ferry with our car in order to see the island. We had read that the car park had to be paid for, so this was not a surprise. We were pleasantly surprised that you were able to pay for 5 days parking at reception (GBP15.00) As we are from the ‘home counties' this seemed incredibly reasonable to us. HOWEVER, not once during the booking or checking in process were we advised that there was a classic car show happening on the island and that the Best Western was one of the main hotels. We were very surprised on the Wednesday they started to cordone off a vast majority of the car park for the vintage cars, leaving very little to no room for normal 2020 models. We have paid the GBP15.00 and are now in the position that for the next 2 days we will be scared to use the car for fear of not being able to park on our return. Poor show Best Western, very poor show. In closing…will we return to the Isle of Man…most definitely. Will we stay at the Best Western, at this moment in time probably not.

Tired? You will be... but hopefully not as tired as this old Dutchess... the penny pinching starts with the plethora of big yellow parking signs demanding a pound to park at the hotel (day rate is £4 for hotel guests)... and the 'shabby cheap' theme is subtly carried through to the rest of the hotel... Bare minimum to meet requirements... no aircon in the room, shabby decor, the bathroom would not look out of place in a 70's sitcom... the extractor fans going added a new dimension to the ambience... Ate at their Chinese takeaway... bland taste not improved by the branded soy sauce bottle that had been filled with cheap brown liquid. The lovely waitress did acknowledge this and brought an actual bottle from the kitchen... to be fair, the service was good, the price not too bad for a sit down meal...but the food was certainly not worth it. We left before our second night ... the manager was fair and agreed to refund us.

The hotel is as usual got a great location and this time I had a sea view. At night I could hear the waves crashing. Good gym and food great, good for access to town and other amenities. Next time I may very well use the casino facilities

Stayed here before about 5/6 years ago and the hotel hasn't changed much since then it's ready for a refit . Saying that the location is ideal on the seafront with parking and the spa and swimming and gym are a big plus . The food is very good , fresh vegetables and nicely cooked meats. The beds are very comfortable and well stocked toiletries.The only downside this visit was we had to ask if we needed the room serviced and ask for towel changes and any tea/coffee replenished. All this due to COVID restrictions Everyone we encountered were very polite and helpful and we will definitely be coming back in the future.

Have just had a 4 night stay at this hotel, not up to Best Western standards, and definitely not up to 4 star standard. In need of some TLC. The rooms are clean but, ever so small, and very hot, the windows are very restrictive in opening and don't . allow any fresh air into the rooms. We where on a half board basis, the food was plentiful, hot, and ample. The best point about it is the staff, friendly, helpful and very professional. Enjoyed the Isle of Man.

This hotel is on the prom and has local buses that stop outside the door. They take you into town or out to the electrical train. Sea view rooms are better as back rooms will get noise from fans from the kitchens.

It might be a 60's monstrosity of a building but it could certainly look a lot better with some investment! It needs painting on the outside, it's looking extremely tired and unfortunately it doesn't get any better inside. Decor in public areas is dark and unwelcoming, there's a really horrible dark carpet and inadequate lighting. The carpet in my room was worn out in two places, the decor again needs completely updating, the wood was also worn out in the furniture. I had a room with a balcony overlooking the sea however you can't even sit on the balcony so it's such a wasted opportunity! The doors to the balcony could be moved a foot inside the room (it can take it as there's a huge step taking up that amount of room anyway) so that the balcony could have a table and chairs, which is what you expect from a balcony! The views are amazing and if there were tables and chairs on the balconies the hotel would also look better from the outside. The windows were filthy and obviously had not been cleaned inside or out for a long time. There was all black mould on the door frames when you opened the door to the balcony to get some air in (the rooms are quite hot). My stay was not really that cheap and didn't include breakfast so overall it was disappointing and I would not recommend this place. It's positives are the sea views and that it's just a short walk to the electric railway station, there are also bus stops right outside for getting to the airport. I didn't use the restaurant or swimming pool so can't comment on those facilities.

Cheap accommodation and absolutely nothing at all wrong with our room or our stay. Stayed here many times before ( I've previously reviewed this hotel) and I've never had a bad stay. Would definitely recommend it as value for good money . Also unfortunately my mobile phone broke on Friday night which had my flight boarding card and nhs vaccination QR codes on them. I went to reception early Saturday morning and a very very good looking lady logged into my emails on reception computer and printed me my aircraft boarding pass. Very grateful and thank you.

The hotel is in a great location, right on the sea front. We had a sea view room and this gave us great views looking out over Douglas Bay.The rooms are very good and the buffet breakfast is excellent with a wide range of hot and cold choices.

The hotel is nicely situated overlooking Douglas Bay, a short walk (10 minutes) from the town centre and away from the major roadworks/promenade rebuilding going on at the moment. There is a large pay and display car park at the rear, £4 per day, the very friendly and helpful lady on reception sorted out the windscreen ticket for me. Strangely the main entrance is at the rear, next to the car park. Don't be put off by the negative reviews about the dated appearance of this hotel. Yes the outside appearance and public areas could do with updating, but this is not the case in the rooms. The room was nicely decorated and very comfortable, with all of the necessary amenities. I was at the back of the hotel, overlooking the car park. No problem with noise noise, except when a bin lorry arrived at 6 a.m. The breakfast was a buffet style. The hot food was nicely cooked and there was a good selection of fruit, cereals, pastries etc. and the best thing was the view of the bay through the large windows in the dining room. I made good use of the really nice swimming pool, there is also a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Use a round £1 Manx coin for the locker. The dinner menu in the Paragon restaurant is quite limiting. It is a carvery/buffet with 3 main dishes plus one vegetarian and one fish option and help yourself to vegetables. The food was tasty and nicely cooked and reasonable value for money. All of the staff in the restaurant were friendly, helpful and attentive. I would happily revisit this hotel.

Great location on promenade, friendly staff, good rates, excellent food. Free Internet although the connection can be weak in bedrooms and some areas of hotel. Casino open until late every night. Rooms smart and tidy.

Old, tired and very unattractive exterior both front and back. Nothing for children to do. It's only saving grace is the fabulous staff who go out of their way to be helpful. However I still wouldn't stay there again.

Although the rooms at the Palace are a bit tired, it doesn't detract from the overall experience. They are very clean. The staff are very good and the stay was excellent. The food is always of the highest quality.

Ensure you get a Seaview room (not only for the view but its also much quieter than the back) Really happy with the standard of pur room, friendliness of staff and quality breakfast. The pool is worth a visit too.

Hotel is very clean, breakfast is very good, frontage and reception area in need of update. Hopefully the seafront work will be completed soon which will make the walk into town more pleasant. Casino is very good experience . Chinese restaurant also very good.

Great hotel situated on Douglas seafront. Good access and staff are very very helpful. Rooms are a little dated, but clean. Food is fantastic, carvery ever evening and buffet for breakfast. All in all a great place to stay for a visit to the Rock

We have been going the hotel for this past 10 years and would not go anywhere else. We have always had an excellent time with very friendly customer friendly staff. The food is first class and well presented. We would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to anyone.

I would recommend the Best Western as it is really central to shops, bars & restaurants all within walking distance from the hotel, there is also a bus service which runs frequently along the front/prom

The hotel is opposite the beach and not too far from town. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. The bedrooms were clean and spacious. The balconies could do with a good clean but the view of the sea is gorgeous. The only thing the whole hotel needs is a coat of paint as it looks a bit tired, but, definitely good value for money and would stay there again.

I love coming back to this hotel, the staff are very friendly and helpful. My room is always at the back of the hotel so the views are not so good and there is a slight noise from the air conditioning units, it is not loud but it is there, the rooms are always clean and tidy with plenty of tea coffee biscuits etc, the bathroom is well stocked with soap shower jells etc but the curtain over the bath does attack me every time I have a shower. I travel all over Europe and the UK with my job so for me to say this is very important: This place is in my top 5 places to eat anywhere in the world, the food is fantastic, well cooked well presented, loads of it etc etc.

No air conditioning. Bar selection poor and no comfortable seating in the hotel I have been to many hotel but have never experienced no seating area only uncomfortable dining chairs to sit on. Also no information about breakfast selection, plenty of normal selection but we had to ask for kippers but when they arrived they where basically inedible

Following BW's usual MO, this probably used to be a great hotel. It was really everything you'd expect from a BW hotel. Firstly the staff were great, friendly and attentive. I hate to focus on the negatives in a review, but I suppose it's purpose is to inform. Apparently the sea view rooms were lovely (some of our party had them) and easy to cool with their sliding balcony door. I am willing to cut some slack given that it was one of the hottest weeks ever, but our room (car park facing) was so hot it was just not funny. Having a tilt-only window that opened barely 2 inches at the top made it impossible to generate any kind of draught, but at least there was a small desk fan there to blow the hot air around. The only advantage to the heat is that I had to sleep on top of the duvet which gave me some padding from the mattress. Now I don't mind a firm mattress, but Fred Flintstone would have complained about this one. Moving rooms to a sea-fronted one was not an option as I needed an interconnecting room with my kids. The room, in general, was nice enough. Sockets near the bed would have been useful for overnight phone charging, but unfortunately none. The bathroom was tired - old grout (not dirty or mouldy though, just weathered and worn), old fixtures, old tiles, old lights, rusty screws, etc. Nothing I haven't seen at every other BW hotel I've stayed in to be fair. At least the water temperature and pressure were good. I think it's a bit cheeky to charge guests for parking when they own the car park and there's no shortage of spaces. Externally the hotel is a bit of a bombsite. Classic 60s architecture (i.e. a concrete box) in desperate need of a paint job. The entrance on the Promenade is really uninviting, and in the car park you have the pleasure of walking past the bins to get to reception. At the rear is the Palace Cinema - I'm not sure if it's park of the hotel complex, it likely was part of the original build as it's the same drab colour and build materials - and also the remnants of at least two other drab buildings lost to time. The in-house Chinese restaurant was actually really nice yet it's really unappealing from the outside which is a shame. So tips for anyone thinking of staying there: - Get a sea view room. - If there's any possibility of it being warm and sunny, do not even consider a room at the back. - Eat breakfast at a cafe in town. - If you can get an air-conditioned hotel for the same price, go there.

Only given 4 stars because there is no Air Con. This is a very good hotel for service,food and room(Seaview is a must) The only negative is the lack of Air Conditioning which is a must now a days. A quiet lounge would be nice.

The Palace hotel is my first choice when visiting the Isle Man due to it' friendly staff, excellent food and facilities, Realty good value for money. I've been visiting the Isle for Man for 20 years and it is good to know that I depend on the Palace to provide my accommodation and food needs and let me get on with enjoying my holiday. Next years booking has been made and I'm looking forward to returning.

The Hotel is a little tired, but great location, breakfast and dinner is really good and the staff are really friendly and helpful, There's a lot of building work going on along the promenade. But that's no fault of the Hotel.

This hotel is ideal for a winter vacation as the heating will not turn off. We were there on some of the hottest days of the year and the heating was on. If the window was open to have a breeze the kitchen extractor fans made such a noice we were kept awake all night. When we complained we were told to keep the curtains closed and there was a fan in the wardrobe. The hotel is sadly in need of upgrading.On the plus side the food was excellent and plenty of it. Staff were friendly, our room was comfortable, a good location for the ferry.

Booked for the 2020 transport festival, which was cancelled. We were still interested in a holiday without the festival, but access to the island at all was then ruled out. We were refused a refund even though they couldn't supply what we had paid for, so we agreed to roll the booking over to the 2021 transport festival dates. This has also been cancelled, and visiting the island also ruled out UFN - but still they are refusing to refund and trying to fob us off with another change of dates.

Staycation at the third attempt, but got there. All staff very helpful and very friendly. Meals were excellent and very well presented. Parts of the Hotel are dated and needs upgraded which i understand is in hand

Best Western - pros &cons It's a lovely location with incredible views. Staff are attentive and not in a corner chatting to each other. Food was incredible! Huge portions, I ordered fillet steak and shocked at the size of it! So delicious, peppercorn sauce fab too! I think they provide a fab service of the pool & gym access throughout your stay! The pool is an ok size small but with fab sauna rooms & steam rooms which are accessible. However limited if you have a disability with inability to use stairs (just something noticed as an overview). I would say it needs a revamp though, looks tired & dusty. The room when it got warm had a dusty smell too it. I think it needs a fresh lick of paint and changing the picture frames etc. Mainly in the corridor of the rooms. Bathroom was very small if you're anything over 5'8” your knees will be in the bath. Overall I would definitely stay again, but would love to see a little revamp when back open and running in full.

This is my go to hotel in Douglas every stay. Stayed in this hotel on the offer for dinner bed and breakfast. The food in the restaurant was beautiful and the staff were friendly and very helpful. The room was clean and spacious. Tv Kettle tea/ coffee, ironing board, iron, hair dryer and bathroom essentials. The decor is in need of an upgrade but it wouldn't put me off staying here again.

We stayed two nights on the £79 per night offer deal they have been running. Excellent value for money, you can't beat it. The food was very nice and the staff were great. The hotel itself is dated and the beds are very hard but the breakfast and dinner meals balanced out the whole experience.

We booked for our daughter for a birthday treat, everything was perfect in every department, due to covid this trip was a month late but they kept in contact and arranging a new date to book. The leisure facility's were perfect, food was amazing and staff above and beyond polite and helpful.

Stayed one night for the special offer Diner Bed and full English breakfast. Rooms spotless. Food excellent with plenty of choice both for evening meal and breakfast. Due to Covid the tables in the dining room were well delegates and all the public areas were well ventilated

Food was excellent and room was comfortable. The spa facilities and pool were a huge bonus. We stayed in a Sea View Suite (247) as we were staying with our 3 year old - he loved the sofa bed! Bathroom basic, and water not particularly hot but water pressure good. Overall we slept well.

Stayed here to celebrate a birthday. We had two rooms (linked together) with a seaview. The rooms were large - big double bed for us and a twin for the kids. Couldn't really fault the room, although the shower could have done with a bit more pressure. After a nice dip in the pool we had a fantastic buffet dinner. Loads of delicious food on offer and as this was a Dinner, B&B stay, there was nothing extra to pay (apart from the drinks). The staff at the end wouldn't even let me pay a tip. An excellent breakfast in the morning - eat all you want buffet - with a lovely view of the (rough!) sea. The staff were fantastic and helpful at all times. One of the only negatives was the lack of any nibbles at the bar in the evening - no peanuts, olives or crisps! Why not? Great stay overall and we'll be going again soon.

Fantastic night . Food was excellent, group played 80s music up dancing all night piper at midnight . Over night stay rooms clean and basic but bed very comfy . Breakfast ok . Staff in this hotel are the best nothing too much trouble . Would do this one again

So many good points...food, service, location, swimming pool etc., and good value. Let me be honest, I am one who isn't afraid to be critical when it is needed. However, real praise is due to staff and management at The Palace. The only minor niggle I have is the over bath showers are awful. Better to have modern shower units. But would it put me off coming again? No, it would not. Excellent.

Easy check in and check out. Make sure you have 50p's for the parking, does not take cards and would not accept pound coins. Currently £4 for 24 hours. Room comfortable and clean, though a little dated. Recommend staying here.

A great value for money. We will be back. We took the kids the second time and they loved it. The only thing that would be good is if there were bigger family rooms. The kids had to share the sofa bed but they are too old for that.

We had a group booking of 27 for the Christmas party night and some of us stayed overnight too. Myself and my partner have stayed quite a few nights this year and have always had a pleasant stay. Food has always been great and staff very attentive.

We had a great overnight stay at the palace, staff were friendly and helpful, leisure facilities were good and the food was great, we had let the staff know in advance as 3 of our party have dietary requirements and there was plenty to choose from at dinner in the restaurant. The breakfast was good too but could have been even better if the sausages were gluten free!

Despite Covid19 restrictions the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was clean and fresh and thank you for the biscuits to co with my tea/coffee. Despite a skeleton crew in the kitchen the food was excellent, well prepared and well presented. My thanks to everyone for making my stay so comfortable.

What value for money! Close to the prom and with a casino onsite, including a £5 voucher, this is such a good staycation idea if you can't travel, or really good for visitors too. Dinner, bed and breakfast is included for £79.50. Dinner is a very generous carvery with so much choice. There was a plentiful amount of seafood and cold meat on offer too. Desserts were good and there was plenty choice. Breakfast included a continental offering and a full English buffet. There is also a pool and gym on site to use. Rooms could use some updating but were spotlessly clean. Overall the value is superb. Friendly team on hand too, with many good people but Steve and Rowena

We stayed here for two nights as a birthday and wedding anniversary celebration with family including two young children . We ate in the carvery the first night and the in house Chinese the second . We also used the pool and jacuzzi which was part of the deal for guests it was lovely and very warm. We had such an amazing time the food was delicious particularly the Chinese where we were a party of 15 ! The staff are just so helpful and always so cheerful . There was a large Ball being held on the second night but this did not effect our stay whatsoever it was all managed so efficiently . Excellent value for money and will definitely return again .

We stayed overnight with our friends for my Husband's birthday last month. The food was really good and the restaurant staff were very helpful and professional and did everything they could to ensure that we had a brilliant night, which we did. What is letting this hotel down is that the rooms look shabby and neither our friends nor ours were clean and the bathroom was not maintained to a good standard. Furthermore a card containing money was handed in at the desk and mysteriously disappeared even though the hotel has CCTV. Even now, over six weeks later, no one has returned our messages and given an explanation of what had happened. This makes you wonder are all the staff trustworthy I think the manager is answerable to this and should have given us an explanation by now as to what has gone wrong

Stayed at the Palace for one night and room was fine, but basic and adequate for our stay. Comfortable bed, with tea and Coffee, and biscuits provided, plus hair dryer and good lighting and pleasant and warm, with air con.

This was the 8th event of this type we have held at the Best Western Palace Hotel and Casino. We cannot fault the staff from Reception to Katie who looks after all the events. Chris Swinden and his amazing team who take care of the food are exceptional. We had over 200 guests at our event and the standard of the food was 10/10 . Massive thanks to Keith, Tom and the other lovely lad who helped prepare the room and made sure everything was just right. We have 2 more of these events booked at the Palace for 2021 and to be honest wouldn't dream of going anywhere else! Stayed overnight room was spotless with fabulous views. This hotel has the best position on Douglas Promenade. Breakfast was spot on and lots of it. Highly recommended.

We spent a Saturday night at the Palace Hotel (Best Western) for a function. We couldn't fault the friendly staff, the cleanliness, & the food was very good, both at the dinner & at the morning breakfast . The view from our balcony room was superb. The hotel was also very busy, & it is great to see it being supported by so many locals, especially during these difficult times. The pool & leisure facilities looked good but we didn't use them. What a shame then that our room was so shabby & in need of refurbishment. A ripped chair, worn carpet, & a stained bed. The rest of the furniture was scuffed & quite tatty too. On enquiring with others staying there ours wasn't the only room like that. It's a hotel that definitely needs upgrading. We paid £10 extra for a room overlooking the bay & it was well worth it as the view is amazing, but again the small balcony was grubby & needed power washing & weeding! Another point worth stating is that in the present Covid-19 conditions the hand sanitiser dispensers were all empty, each with a note attached saying to go to reception if you wanted to use one. Not very good when you exit the lift after pushing buttons many other people would have touched in a day. Parking is £4 for 24 hours but it's free at the front of the hotel on the promenade, & you can enter from the front of the building even though the rather uncaring girl at the "slots & bingo" venue there told us we had to walk around the back & through the car park to reception. We didn't , the entrance was just a few yards away on the other side of the Chinese restaurant. On returning to inform her of this she first argued that we should have used the car park entrance & when I pointed out that the door we used had signage for reception she had a "couldn't care less" attitude - the only unprofessional & unfriendly member of staff that we encountered, all of the others were excellent. I'm not sure I'd stay there again as there are other quality hotels within easy walking distance.

Stayed for 2 nights, the first night being the summer offer of dinner bed and breakfast. The food was amazing. Soup for starters was Stilton and broccoli and it was very tasty. The main course was carvery with great choice and everything was cooked to perfection. The sweets choices were different types of cake, cheesecake fruit and cheeses. All staff in the hotel were friendly and helpful. The room was double with sea view and had everything you needed, tea coffee making facilities, biscuits etc. Hair dryer, ironing board, the bathroom had soap shampoo conditioner and shower gel The hotel throughout was spotlessly clean and although dated in place that doesn't take anything away from this being a great hotel.

We have used Best Western IOM for our past several trips to visit family on the island, we where due to go around Easter of this year, due to Covid travel restrictions where put in place and the hotel was closed over our booked dates, the hotel flat out refused a refund, it was a very stressful time let alone having to deal with this company taking our money for a service they did not provide.

Just back from a one night staycation offer at £79 for dinner bed and breakfast, although we upgraded to a sea view room for £10. Whilst the hotel is somewhat dated it was spotless throughout and the bed was very comfortable. The huge glass doors leading to small balcony offered a beautiful view of Douglas bay. Three course buffet style dinner was delicious and fresh with so much choice. The service was very good too. We had a little flutter in the casino which was busy and had a good atmosphere. Before dinner we walked to the nearby Queens pub for a couple of drinks which was a nice way to fill in some time. Breakfast was again delicious. The value is unbelievable for the quality and amount of food. We will definitely be back!

Great value for money and a nice break for a night! Staff were all very helpful and evening meal and breakfast were excellent. Very relaxing atmosphere ( we stayed on a Friday night) and we will definitely be back often.

Took advantage of the £79 dinner, bed & breakfast and paid £10 to upgrade to the sea view with balcony. This was a must as I sat on the balcony for a few hours. Just big enough to fit the desk chair out there. Room was absolutely fine - tidy, comfy bed, hot powerful shower with toiletries, tea coffee biscuits, iron etc Dinner was amazing but we paid £9.50 each extra to get the Fillet steak instead of the carvery choices. Breakfast was help yourself and again nothing was any trouble for the great staff - very welcoming. Didn't use the pool, gym or casino (was given a £5 voucher to use if we wanted). Got a free bottle of wine brought up to our room when I showed them I'm a Keyworker when we check in. Will be taking advantage of the deal again and is fully recommended.

We had a special offer of £79.00 for dinner bed and breakfast. For an extra £10.00 you get a balcony, well that is what you call it, It was filthy and the hotel really needs updating. The balcony was so small but anyways it was a hot night and with no air-con we were able to have the balcony door open. The food was amazing, the service in the restaurant was second to none. Shame they do not spend some money on it, just a good clean would be sufficient.

I too had a room booked in the hotel for three nights from Friday 22nd May 2020 as one of a party of 7 people for a birthday party weekend on the island. However following Corona the island went into lockdown with no visitors allowed. The hotel have ignored all communications (via phone call and email) to request a refund and removed my reservation number from the BW system. Even a request to Best Western who then attempted to contact the hotel to request a refund come to nothing so I contacted my Credit Card advisor to explain I've failed to attain the goods I'd paid for and they have refunded my £205 for the booking. i'd recommend others to do the same if they can and avoid this hotel for any future bookings.

Booked in and paid up front. Despite being closed they refused refund so I requested chargeback aginst my card and my transaction was reversed. You can do this on credit or debit card. Will never book again.

They are terrible. Refusing to refund advance booking fees without any contact is just so wrong. This is my money for a 3 night stay that they can't honour as they are shut. On any level why do they think they are entitled to take my hard earned cash and keep it? I've cost them nothing. No room no food no cleaning. What other business can take your money and give you nothing? You can't go in a restaurant and pay up front to be told we're not going to serve you but we are keeping your money! Wrong wrong wrong

Booking was never cancelled. The hotel is shut. I was never contacted. Booked the hotel after the announcement by the WHO of the PHEIC (Public Health Emergency of International Concern) on 30/01/20. Therefore I will be pursuing a full refund despite the advice that the Sefton Group who own the hotel are not giving them. Best Western have been completely useless. They are nothing more than a booking service.

I booked to stay at this hotel at the end of this month. A journey from South East to visit. No one is travelling due to Corona and it is out of my hands that the event I was due to attend was cancelled. I was charged at the time I booked last November 2019 although was advised payment would not be until nearer the time. I have contacted the hotel and requested a refund or if I could postpone the dates and move the booking - they have declined both stating it's non refundable and refuse to move the booking - I need to cancel and rebook and lose my money. Booked a room for midweek break in May on a no cancel, no refund booking.In normal times if I didn't turn up I would expect to loose my money if I couldn't make it.But these are normal times. Contacted hotel to see if we could rearrange dates for later in the year and they are saying they will not refund or rearrange my booking. What a great way to attract future tourists to the island. Didnt cancel, but the hotel was closed , no refund, nothing, unable to switch dates at IOM or any other Best Western. Paid a lot of money thought i was supporting the UK in a difficult time. Never used Ryanir after the Ash cloud will never use Best Western again..

My son and I had booked a weekend stay at this hotel but due to the restrictions the Manx government had put in place preventing travel to the island due to the Coronavirus I phoned and spoke to Claire [---] (one of the directors) I asked if I could change the booking for a later date and I would be willing to pay any additional charges. She told me a categorical NO and I would loose all my money. This is blatant profiteering during these unprecedented times that may become a criminal offence. I would not recommend this type of hospitality; mercenary and in humane when we are all supposed to be pulling together.

Booked for May for a family now cancelled wedding. However the IOM Gov have now enforced no visits to the Island for non-residents, due to the pandemic of COVID19. I am trying to get a full refund for these exceptional circumstances but received this from booking.com. While the hotel has contacted me directly, they still won't agree to a full refund at this point and are waiting for further instructions from the government and if they're prepared to financially support them...and that folks is all this hotel is interested in, making money! After this treatment, it's a hotel to avoid for me in the future.

I had a booking for 23rd March which (due to the Manx Government ban, on all non residents traveling to the Isle of Man), I was unable to attend. The T's & C's on my confirmation advised the booking could not be cancelled and was non-amendable. I contacted the Hotel, explained the situation and asked if I could re-book or get a refund. I was told they were sticking to their T's & C's and would not re-book me for a later date, or refund the money taken. Thanks to their fantastic 'Customer Service' I won't be using Best Western again EVER! If there had been a way to give zero, I would have used it.

Tried to cancel booking because of current situation with Covid 19 virus. But Hotel will not refund because Its a non refundable booking.Would of thought in current circumstances they would be a bit more flexible given what is happening out here.

The hotel is comfortable and very accommodating to any requests. The pool area is great and the views on the sea view rooms are stunning. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful! Especially Rowena and Ewa who were exceptionally kind and professional. Their politeness and friendly manner is something that could be embraced by other establishment's staff that I have stayed at!

We only stayed for one night but we had a great time and a good laugh. From a great check in with Rowena, she is spot on, all the info and answered any questions. She is friendly and lively, but still professional. Rooms are great, a little tired in some areas. Bar/Restaurant really good and the portions are big. Casino was a laugh and the girl's even won some money. The pool is lovely, clean, immaculate. Great location. Highly recommended.

An initial 3 day business trip that lasted a week turned out to be a refreshing break indeed. The hotel itself is clean and comfortable, the casino was good and I spent a couple nights playing some of the games. Food was amazing, I never had the breakfast but I had the carvery a few times which was fantastic. The ocean view room was fantastic to wake up to in the morning and enjoy a nice coffee. All staff were great but the Highlight of the trip was a very pleasant staff member working on reception, Rowena, I can't thank her enough for the service provided and the lovely smile everyday.

the Palace was the place to be. It was an upmarket hotel and quite sophisticated nightspot by IOM standards. Probably the only thing that has changed is my expectation. Certainly the room I was in was a bit retro, with a few idiosyncrasies, and the public areas are a bit tired. But d'you know what? I was very pleased I stayed there, even though it was for a family funeral and I was severely jet-lagged. That's because the people were, without exception, top notch, always friendly and helpful. The welcome from Rowena was outstanding. The breakfast buffet was excellent. And while I didn't even enter the casino or pool, it's a bonus that I could. Car parking was easy, even if not free (and when you look at Douglas prom, you'll see why that's important). If you stay at the weekend you'll possibly encounter some rambunctious locals; the walls aren't thick! But it's a lively place which was just what I needed. No shortage of cheaper places to stay, possibly offering a similar in-room experience, but as an all round package the Palace was great value.

Stayed here for one night in early February after our flight was cancelled due to a storm. Although not luxury and a bit dated as others have said, the room was comfortable and we found the double bed and linens especially so. At the Paragon Restaurant for dinner, we were only allowed to order from the main menu (not the bar menu) with our airline voucher/credit and there was only one vegetarian option. Bobbi was at the desk and kindly offered to ask the chef if he could do anything else, which he was. Later when I asked for a little simple food for my baby, she was happy to oblige. I was waiting for the food (whilst having the baby in a carrier) and she offered to have it brought up to our room so I wouldn't have to wait and juggle it on my own. I was ever so grateful! The breakfast in the morning was great; lots of options and tasty and again friendly staff who helped out with a high chair. Would consider staying again just for the nice staff!

This hotel is one of my favourites on the island. Staff are extremely friendly, the food is excellent and the rooms are usually lovely and spacious. We stayed here on Sunday for one of the amazing dinner, bed and breakfast deals. We payed an extra £10 to have a sea view. We were given a room on the top floor quite near the lift which is always a good thing. When we got into our room, I noticed straight away that the bed wasn't a double, it was a 4 foot bed. My husband had been working all morning and just wanted to relax so I didn't want to make a fuss. With hindsight, I wish I would have complained. I slept on the edge of the bed all night and at 6.15am decided to get up as I was so uncomfortable. My husband sleeps on his back so he was 'fine" I mentioned it to the receptionist at check out. Next time I will check the room has a proper double bed before I book.

Nice hotel, great view, lovely food. Shame about the noise from the function room at night. Cant fault the staff they were all lovely and helpful. I didnt complain about the noise as it was completely out of their control. It was just a shame our room was directly above the function room. We had breakfast each morning which was outstanding. Bathroom was a bit grotty, room was lovely and clean, great view of the ocean

Room was spotless and bed extremely comfortable. Great bath/shower, no problems with water pressure. Food, overall, was excellent, apart from the carvery roast beef which was like shoe leather and I literally could not cut it or eat it. Such a shame as the rest of the food was wonderful.

we stayed here as we were attending a relatives funeral. (from 06/02/2020) We could not stay with family. We got delayed a couple of days due to storm Ciara. We stayed B&B in a twin room. The beds were the most uncomfortable beds I have ever tried to sleep in (hard and could feel every spring ) Unfortunately the ferry was cancelled when we were due to return so booked another night (should have gone elsewhere really as we usually stay at another hotel close by ....lesson learned) We stayed here as there was a car park and as the promenade is being renovated so parking is difficult. **Could not believe they charge £4.00 per day to park there - what a rip off. (should have stayed at our fave hotel around the corner as parking was not a problem really at this time of year - another lesson learned).The hotel is in need of a major revamp or demolishing and start again. Rooms are outdated. Bathroom has a bath (for extremely short people under 4 foot) with a shower over. there were towels and accessories (weirdly we had a couple of bottles of shampoo + conditioner and a bottle of conditioner - no shower or bath stuff but luckily brought my own) The best thing about the stay was breakfast - very helpful staff and good food. also on the plus side was the pool but only got to use this after we re booked as was closed for our initial stay due to maintenance... The man on the desk was extremely helpful and he did help us with our delay for returning home.. the woman on the desk was opposite. We were worried and tried to ask her but she wouldn't even make eye contact - very abrupt with an upside down smile..would we stay here again.NO. We will pay less and stay at our fave place or 2nd or 3rd or even 4th fave place (tried a lot of places with having family on the island and visiting a lot) I would rate this hotel 1 star for sleep quality and 3 star for the rest.

Our plane landed at 8am, when we arrived at the hotel we were told we could have our room straight away which was a bonus as we thought we would have to wait until 2pm check in time. Very clean hotel, Rooms cleaned everyday, clean towels everyday for me the bed was too hard, but that's a personal thing. Excellent staff nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff and very courteous. The buffet breakfast is terrific with a good choice of hot and cold food, you have to order the poached eggs and the Manx Kippers which are superb.

All in all, a good value hotel, good sized clean rooms,with very friendly staff and good food from the carvery restaurant,and all this for for a reasonable price. Check in and Check out both completed very efficiently and professionally.

Great Customer Service the building just needs some TLC especially back of hotel. Reception could do with some renovation. Staff friendly and helpful and could not do enough to help. Sea view was fab so location great.

I booked this hotel as a treat for my daughter aged 12 very good value for money but was disappointed they had no kids breakfast price which was extra for me as booked room only rate. Pool and spa was nice and relaxing.

This hotel is dated in parts. However, the rooms are a good size and immaculately clean. Breakfast is fantastic. The staff really make this hotel as they are truly fabulous in all areas - reception, restaurant and cleaning staff. Would stay here again without hesitation.

Just spent 4 nights at Best Western in Isle of Man, probably the worst 4 nights sleep in a long time. People running up and down corridors and the mattresses need require changing. Food is of a good standard

Despite calling ahead to ask if I could pay to come and use the spa and being told it was open until 6.00pm. I turned up to be be told by a charmless woman who finally ended her conversation with some friend to serve me to be told ‘we don't do walk ins' no smile no greeting and zero apology for the fact I told her I was misinformed. Surprised considering there were three people using the pool that they wouldn't like to make a little extra revenue on a quiet day, especially as the hotel is so clearly run down and dated in other areas. Appalling lack of customer service and definitely failed at the charm school!

Always a warm welcome and friendly staff great service and value for money , fantastic carvery with plenty of choices breakfasts is my favourite , will go to stay again very soon as it's my first go to hotel on the island.

Stayed here last night on their winter deal, absolutely wonderful 3 course carvery and delicious buffet breakfast this morning, could not fault anything about our stay,from our booking at reception to during our stay and our check out this morning, lovely friendly receptionist didn't get her name (red curly hair)shes a credit to your hotel along with all the waiting staff, lovely clean room with extras like hot chocolate and biscuits to iron and ironing board ,safe, and toiletries,and a beautiful sea view, would definitely stay here again in the near future we cant wait to come back.

Having stayed here several times before, I was naturally excited about reliving my previous excellent experiences. I was not disappointed. Yes the rooms are tired and many fixtures have seen better days, but look at what you're paying? £75 Dinner,bed and breakfast with a £5 betting chip included! What's not to like? I've stayed in 5 star and 2 star and rate hotels on how much I've paid and do I believe I have received value for money. Always feel I get that here.

Good value for the money. Excellent location, all amenities nearby, including the ferry. Nice restaurants and bars . Check out too slow, without any apparent reason, but still recommend for work or leasure.

We've stayed here several towns using the winter break deal. Always upgrade to a sea view and for £85 dinner, bed & breakfast for 2 people you can't go wrong. The food is delicious with a 3 course carvery included and self service hot breakfast served until 11am. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We will be booking again in March before the deal ends.

The check-in welcome was warm and provided most of the information about the facilities in the hotel. Breakfast was excellent and the room comfortable if not over-exciting. The Wifi worked well. Very good value for the price paid. The only whinge is that it is about a mile from the city centre.

We visit my elderly aunt as often as we can and always have a fantastic time at the hotel. It offers value for money and the winter deal is amazing. The meals are fantastic and the staff very helpful and polite.

Friendly staff. Meals were very good. and excellent value. Room was clean and comfortable, a bit dated but fine. Enjoyed a flutter in the Casino and overall a very pleasent stay and would definately use again.

The hotel is situated in a lovely location on the promenade and is not far from the ferry terminal. The room was comfortable with nice toiletries, hot chocolate and biscuits provided. It is in need of some refurbishment, but hotels like these which I call ‘faded splendour' have their own charm! The food was excellent, there was plenty to eat at breakfast and I can recommend the carvery. The staff were really helpful and friendly especially Rowena, on reception. All in all a very good stay and I will definitely stay here when I visit again.

Booked a sea view room, large room with floor to ceiling sliding windows onto juliet balcony stunning sunrises over the entire bay. Friendly staff and wonderful food - breakfasts help yourself buffet with masses of choice and dinner was excellent, again help yourself to starters and desserts. Some of decor a little dated, but everywhere clean welcoming. Excellent for a few days away on this pretty island and well placed for electric trams and horse trams (which run on the promenade outside the hotel ). For those who wish to keep fit there is also a nice pool and gym, not to mention a little flutter in the casino.At the rear of the hotel is a cinema, a few shops and plenty parking.

First mark is 4/5 for the hotel. Sure it's showing signs of age but everything needed was provided in a clean and warm room. Second mark 5/5 for the exceptionally friendly staff who use old school formality with up to date charm to make them some of the most welcoming I've come across for many a year. Well done.

The Palace was once the place to go, alas it bears the scars of a bygone era of tourism. The hotel looks very tired and is ready for a complete refurbishment program. The room was adequate size, clean and for a one night stopover served its purpose.

When we looked online to book the hotel this came up as one of the cheapest which we were surprised as it had a swimming pool, jacuzzi & casino in which were great for us. Parking was easy in the large car park at the back of the hotel (although we did have to pay. £16 I think it was for 4 nights). The room was very nice. Nice to get hot chocolate & biscuits which you don't get in a lot of hotels these days. We had a nice room overlooking the sea. There is a Chinese restaurant within the hotel which also offers a takeaway and that was very good. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice & good service from the staff We were given vouchers for free drinks in the casino so we went in & the casino was very good All round a very good hotel & very good value

This hotel is dated but don't let the exterior put you off. The rooms are exceptional value - sea view for £55 out of season. It has everything you need. 24 hour room service, great food. Only downside is the external appearance.

Just had another 3 night break at the Best Western Palace. Our room was clean, comfortable and warm. Great food and very friendly, helpful staff all at a reasonable price. It's worth upgrading to a sea view room.

Without exception we found the staff first class, very friendly and attentive. The food and standard of service in the restaurant were first class and we enjoyed a good night's sleep in a very comfortable bed.

We had a fantastic few days of sight seeing, eating and drinking based at The Palace Hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful, great breakfasts and if you book a room on the front you get great views.

Enjoyed 4 lovely days here with my son and husband. Everywhere including the large and peaceful swimming area was very clean. There was lots to do in the hotel and round about, although we did resist the draw of the casino. Breakfast was ample. They cooked us kippers, veggie sausages and poached eggs to order. All the staff were helpful and friendly. The public areas and the outside are all worn and need updating but the rooms are large enough and very comfortable. Thank you everyone who made our stay so special.

I recently stayed here for the 2nd time, I would not pass this hotel by, the location is ideal, Food great, Friendliness of the staff are fantastic and one of very few hotels with onsite parking within Douglas Promenade, health suite, chinese restaurant and Casino all on site making facilities excellent even a 2 screen cinema. Some of the Public areas need some painting, but the rooms are clean, tidy and fresh which is all you need, last time i was here i came with my wife and this time alone so it does suit couples and solo travellers.

Our room was modern and clean with good brewing facilities. Good bar and excellent breakfast. However our room was at the back overlooking the big car park and noise went on all night and early in the morning. This meant we never got a good nights sleep.

Lovely Seaview room, very nicely decorated and comfortable bed. Hotel looks very dated from the outside and inside the reception area. Don't let that put you off. Couldn't fault the staff or service. Would definitely recommend staying here. Nice pool and spa area.

My wife and I last visited the IOM some 35 years ago so we felt it was time to go back We chose the Best Western Palace as we have always had good stays in their Hotels The Palace was no exception living up to our expectations with a lovely room overlooking the sea and some fantastic staff at reception and in the Restaurant The housekeeping staff are also superb Well done everyone 5* service

Stayed for a mixture of business and leisure. The Function/Meeting rooms are very tired with dirty walls and carpet, ripped curtains that don't close and no ventilation or air con. Staff lack training and there is a lack of them, I know it's end of season but they know what bookings they have coming in. Very very tired decor throughout including rooms. Housekeeping could do with some scrubbing brushes and limescale remover in bathroom to clean shower/ bath areas properly, Orange/brown tile grout, dirty plug holes. Food service very slow. Waiting at bars etc, couldn't have cappuccino as no cups on bar. Also entertainment in evening the noise travels up to rooms and didn't finish till 1am (Grease night!) Sadly didn't have a choice about staying here was block booking. Won't return though.

Nice room overlooking the seafront. The hotel was clean, comfortable and quiet and had a generous supply of coffee/tea etc. The staff on Reception were very helpful. The hotel is about half way round the promenade and is opposite bus stops so that if you are arriving from the airport you can be dropped off outside. The drivers are helpful. Bus numbers are 1,2 and 11 and the price was £3.10 single. In summary, we enjoyed our stay here and would visit again.

This is a very friendly, clean hotel, in a fab location, walking distance from shopping centre, transport etc. would highly recommend it for all travellers, sitting on the sea front with spectacular views across the bay of Douglas is an added bonus

After reading other reviews was always usure about this hotel and my nervousness was founded. Reception area basic and "tatty". There are no areas/lounges for guests to sit and relax. The bar area is not very large and most nights there were no tables to sit at especially when they give it over to other groups to use for events/functions. We booked two rooms with sea view and balcony and when we went to the rooms found we only had one with balcony. When questionning this at reception the receptionist said that under our terms and conditions of booking no request is guaranteed and said she would have to refer this to duty manager.. The room we were given 439 had mould on the windows, double glazing was completely misted up and shower was held together with tape (see pics). They said they could not move us until the next day, which they did. On checking in we were given two vouchers each for free drinks but you could not use them in the hotels main bar only in the casino and some other bar which we never found. Note you pay for parking here at a rate per day. We found everything to be "hard work". Service on food sometimes very slow. Asked for large glass of wine, they did not have any large glasses available. Asked for a tea, took the waitress quite a while to locate tea pots and milk jugs, Short of hand towels in the bathroom and asked for them, the room attendant brought one as she did not have two. Good point was quality of food although having a choice of boiled potatoes, roast potatoes and mixed veg for 7 nights does get weary. The satff are working and giving of their best and are beyond criticism. Whoever is the General Manager or persons in charge needs replacing but who those people are it was they did not mix with guests, obvious by their absence. This hotel needs a good shake up especially when they have posters in the corridors telling you whats on and they are 3 monthe out of date. My advice would be if considering this hotel against another, go to the other as they are not interested in service to those on holiday or on a short break, its conferences, weddings and other functions they want to provide for.

Just stayed in Douglas at the Best Western. First impressions were not so good. Hotel is very dark and carpet a bit sticky. Room small but very clean although I felt I needed a plumbing degree to work the shower. However the food was lovely and the Chinese at the hotel restaurant was the nicest and most authentic I have had for a while. Breakfast was delicious as well. The staff were very friendly and helpful especially Irene who gave me wonderful directions to the town All in all good value for money

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. Cathy and Rowena at reception were especially helpful. The staff at this hotel were all happy to go the extra mile. And breakfast is outstanding. The choice is amazing.

Had a lovely weekend made special by the fantastic staff. Kathy on reception went above and beyond to make our holiday run smoothly, the breakfast was great, plenty of choice and piping hot. The rooms were beautiful and spotless, also complimentry drinks toiletries were replenished daily, all these little touches make a difference. Will defenitly be staying there again.

A lovely hotel a little tired but otherwise 100%. The staff were superb and helpful. Ask for a sea view room it is worth it. The casino is fun and worth a visit. The only down comment is the choice of Vegetarian options on the menu. Would recommend however

Best western Palace hotel, IOW This was booked as a coach trip, September 2019. There is a large car park at the rear of the hotel which there is a charge to park, pay and display and it was also the main entrance for the hotel. The hotel itself looked a little dated from the outside. It also has a casino, Spa, Fitness Centre and bingo sessions in the evening. The room was ok with a comfortable bed, good channels on the tv and a very good selection of tea coffee and chocolate which was topped up daily along with a couple of biscuits. The bed gave us a good sleep, but the room was a little stuffy unless you opened the window as there was no air conditioning in our room. The bathroom was compact but ok and a nice selection of toiletries were available. The meals which were provided as part of our coach trip were excellent. Breakfast selection was very good with a selection of cereals, hot food and pastries. We particularly enjoyed the porridge which was made to order along with our request for some blueberries which they were happy to provide. Our evening meal had a great selection of starters, a very good selection of mains and plenty of deserts and cheese and biscuits put out. This was the best selection of meals that we have had on a coach trip, but it also has to be said that the quality of food was excellent. The problems. Shower not working properly and the hair dryer not working. The shower would only stay hot for around 30 seconds then go cold, so I reported it to the duty manager and she said she would sort it first thing in the morning. Unfortunately the following day it still did not work so I again told a different duty manager, who assured me that they had the shower looked at and was supposed to be fixed. He assured me that he would sort it the following morning and apologised for the inconvenience it had caused. The following day it was working and the duty manager came to me directly to check that I was happy now. The hair dryer which is wired in, did not work and after I called at reception they gave me a spare hair dryer instantly and also apologised for the problem. Although we had a couple of problems with our stay, the way it was dealt with is important. I was satisfied that they tried to sort the problems out as soon as possible and this made me feel valued and was happy with my dealings with both duty managers. Overall, not the nicest looking hotel, a little dated in parts, but excellent food and service.

We were part of a group of 40 and we were well looked after with seaview rooms, two excellent dinners in private rooms and friendly and helpful staff throughout. The hotel is looking very tired in places and the entry from the promenade is not very inviting.

Arrived around 15:00 my room was ready. Had a lovely view the decor and bathroom were a bit tired but it was clean. The staff were all super friendly and helpful but I wasn't too impressed with the restaurant. Food was ok but nothing special. But I have had worse. I would probably stay here again.

Went to palace bingo normally stay at the best western but fully booked.Visited palace bingo which we love. Staff are so friendly. Lovely buffet on monday afternoon. Free tea coffee & snacks.just fab x

Myself and my husband Sean have just returned from a trip to the isle of man we stayed at the best western hotel and we had a lovely time we were over as part of a vintage car club from ballymoney . I must say that the hotel was very good our bedroom looked out onto the promenade the bedrooms are very clean and tidy you have maid service every day the food is very good the staff are very friendly and helpful and if we ever return to the isle of man this is one hotel that I would stay in again.

We stayed for 3 nights during the Manx Grand Prix and the hotel was a perfect base to stay at. The staff were very polite and friendly. The room was very clean and well serviced. The bar staff were very friedly and efficient and the casino was great for something to do in the evening. The croupiers were very friendly and took the time to explain how each gaming table operated. The only slight negative from the stay is that the hotel exterior and parts of the interior are looking a bit shabby, but this did not detract from the overall enjoyment of our trip to the Isle Of Man.

Brilliant Hotel, staff and amenities. Will need refurbishing soon, but still great. Food good, comfortable rooms and clean, Excellent location. We go twice a year and enjoy every moment there. Shower over bath not good, hoping refurb will put walk in showers.

We stayed as part of a coach holiday. The hotel is due to be demolished and apartments built on the site so only important repairs and maintenance are being carried out. Not too elegant looking from outside it can't escape its age and stylised architecture. I understand that Best Western will relocate in Douglas. Our room was ok if a little small but clean. The window could only be closed or open at its widest setting but we managed. There obviously isn't any money available for non urgent repairs. The food was lovely. We were in a separate room just off the main dining room and had buffet style meals. We didn't have as many main courses to choose from at dinner but we still had a good choice and there was always a gluten free and vegetarian option. Our breakfast was from the buffet in the main dining room. The plates were always HOT. The staff were very good - helpful, cheerful and eager to please. Some evening entertainment would have been welcome but everything is kept to a minimum - no point splashing the cash when closure is on the horizon.

I have visited this building for the past 25 years, I say building as it used to be the Stakis hotel, before the Hilton, and then more recently a best western. The character has been taken away and turned into a budget, run down, little better than a Travelodge equivalent stay. If best western is considered budget, it's ridiculous to expect to pay £130 a night for a room which is full of old furniture with a gritty bathroom which is outdated. Waited at reception with a line of people waiting to be served and no staff around, fundamentally amateur and when staff did arrive it was a rush job and was completely ignored when I asked a question. You can pull people off the street who could do a better job. Food was quite nice and breakfast had an excellent choice, and my score is not comparing it to what the hotel used to be, as that's not fair but by today's standards, simply poor.

Just returned from 4 night first trip to the Isle of Man, staying at Best Western Palace & Casino hotel. Very friendly staff everywhere, Rooms are a little dated, but nice & clean, only gripe, bed was not very comfy, but had a lovely sea view room with balonette and door that could be opened for fresh air. The breakfast was very good indeed, lots of choice at buffet and also could order cooked to order items like Kippers, Poached eggs, Porridge, which was excellent. Evening meals are good choice too, and bar menu okay if needed. Casino small but nice, with bar area Roulette tables, slots etc. All in all had a very nice stay.

On a 5 day Shearings coach holiday.One of the best coach hotels that we have ever experienced. Although the hotel is a little dated in parts it was spotlessly clean and comfortable with all the amenities that you could wish for. Really nice swimming pool/health spa.Good bar area.Also a casino. Centrally situated,about a 15 minutes walk to the town centre. Excellent food both at dinner and breakfast.Self serve with a very good variety. Staff very friendly. Really enjoyed our stay.

Staff very friendly. Rooms were shabby carpet was thread bare, staff smoking next to rubbish bins including Chefs and Waiters in uniform so we didn't eat there. Overly priced because of Classic TT but we couldn't get nowhere else. Fire door missing on second floor landing.

Visited the island in August 2019, This hotel has staff who are most helpful, good position of hotel - promenade and excellent beach access. THe only criticism I could make would be 'a little tired'. Stayed here for a few days, nothing too much trouble for the staff. Room cleaned regularly. Towels replaced when necessary. Breakfast fine. Proximity to local attractions good. The island is a dream, if you like to wander and look at the surroundings - then it's an ideal place to visit. Life appears to be at a much slower rate, and for an older visitor quite safe. Loved the steam railway and visit to Port Erin.

The staff were very pleasant. Rowena in reception made us feel welcome as soon as we entered and is a credit to the hotel. We had a lovely bright clean room with stunning views over the bay. The evening carvery meal was fantastic with a good selection for starters, main and dessert. The morning breakfast was exceptional with a great range of hot or cold which was fresh and very tasty. I will be visiting again soon.

This is one of those rather tired old hotels that has long passed it's glory days. Having said that, the rooms are functional, beds comfortable and the view , well what can be said for the view from a one foot wide balcony with a large tarmac roof just below and home to a thousand seagulls. The bar is good and the staff friendly and of course there is the casino for a late drink and/or a flutter. Actually it has a very relaxed vibe and is an enjoyable place to while away a few late hours. Just dont back red or black!

Stayed here for four nights. We found the hotel to be very clean, and staffed by helpful friendly staff. The food was excellent throughout our stay, from the buffet breakfast through to dinner. The choice of food was very good with meat dishes, fish dishes, and vegetarian dishes. A very good hotel and will use it again.

We stopped here for four nights for the TT, the place was a little dated, but not too bad, the location is ideal though, smack bang on the sea front at Douglas, plenty of parking as well, the self service breakfast was great, I had the pie for one evening meal which was very very nice

Our room was small but comfortable, with a wide view of the seafront. The dining room was large but not crowded, with tables set well apart. The food was delicious and plentiful and although we had booked in for breakfasts only we opted to dine in the evening on PAYG basis. Every member of staff was cheerful and helpful, whatever the query, (trams, buses, railways, Tesco etc) and we felt most welcome. Lifts to all floors enhanced our experience. Thank you very much for giving us (two wrinklies) a grand holiday.

I first stayed at this hotel a couple of years ago with my boyfriend (who became my fiance by the end of the stay on the IOM), so we returned there this summer having recently married. I remember it being rather dated from the first visit, but it had so many plus points (staff, dining - buffet style option - , the swimming pool and proximity to the bay) that we decided to stay again. However, having booked a room overlooking the bay, we were not best pleased to arrive in the room only to find that there was no view as the glass was all steamed up - clearly, the double glazing in the windows need replacing. Worse still, the mattress was simply not fit for purpose: I sat on it and pain shot straight up my back. We told the duty manager of our concerns and were moved to a better room the next day. I feel a bit sorry for the staff; those working 'front of house' are clearly doing their best, but those at the top of the GW management team need to listen to customers and bring this hotel up to date. I have stayed in several 4 star hotels in the last couple of years, and this is more like a 3 star (at best). There was a wedding reception going on during our stay, and a couple of the guests decided to have a chat outside of our door at 1.30 am; if this wasn't bad enough, one of the guests (presumably very drunk) tried to enter our room. When this failed, he tried to shove the door open. Not the hotel's fault, I know, but in all, not a great stay.

Brilliant hotel. Clean , friendly, helpful staff and great facilities in the rooms aswell as in the hotel itself. Good proximity to all Douglas has to offer. Will definatley like to stay there again next time i go to Isle Of Man.

hotel is very dated we had a deluxe sea view room would not class it as deluxe. No air conditioning in the room or hotel very warm and stuffy. No where to sit outside to have a drink only inside it would have been nice to have a outside area on a nice evening.

A great adult family trip. Some rooms tired but comfortable. A clean hotel with kind staff...especially Tom the barman who was extremely helpful. The sea view room was clouded by double glazing with condensation between the glass obscuring the beauty of the bay.

The staff were all friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good and the carvery was good. The room 221 has a balcony with a good view of the bay. The room was okay but the mattress on the bed next to the window needs retiring to the tip. Most reviews mentioned the general decor of the hotel but I would stay again. Only downside is the lack of air conditioning but having a seaview room with balcony has the advantage of opening doors. Location good and bus stop outside very handy for getting round the island.

Shabby carpet in bedroom no nice lounge to sit and have a drink in bar through the casino whitch was not expected so didnt have a drink back noisy hot bedroom Would not stay again And not a 4star hotel.

Was a short trip for my birthday. I have stayed in this hotel many times before. The staff on arrival were excellent The food in the bar was very good I visited the casino on both nights, the bar was well stocked and staff were excellent

Stayed here on a five day Shearings Break.. Much preferred this hotels method of self serve for your evening meals.. The quality off the food was the best we've ever tasted..and plenty off it.. You don't sit in the main restaurant but in an adjoining room on large tables (1o too each table) which I preferred as you got too spk too a lot more travellers than you usually would.. The only negative about this hotel was it was far too warm in the bedrooms..I had the fan on all night and we didn't sleep inside the bed all week, was too hot.. I did make a complaint to the receptionist... Im still waiting for someone too attend and too turn the radiator off!!…..

The last time i was in the Isle of Man was 1978, and walking into this hotel was like walking back into 1978. The reception is so dated and difficult to find. You have to walk through the car park at the rear of the hotel to find the reception on a even footing which is on Level 1.This is an easier option for guests on arrival who have previously not stayed here before. There is an entrance from the promenade, its up a flight of stairs, this will also lead you to the reception. We had a rear facing room onto the car park as all sea facing rooms where already booked, this in itself was not a problem, but there was no ventilation, the window opened slightly, so the room and corridors were like sauna's, and for the bed, it was the worst i have ever TRIED to sleep on. On a more positive note, the breakfast was very good with a good variety of choice, but if you do order from the menu (manx kippers etc) be prepared to wait 30 mins on them arriving. The wifi was also good throughout the hotel if you need that sort of thing. These are my reasons for giving it an average rating. I do not think this is a 4* hotel especially with the standard of our room. If I was ever to go back to the Isle of Man, (I am not a person who would normally complain and especially over what i call silly little things like furniture stains or carpets being old etc I just be glad of the opportunity to get the chance to go on holidays) i would have to say i would be looking for other accommodation to stay in.

In essence this is a nice hotel which would be improved if you could open the window. The temperature in our room ranged from 30C to 34C which was unbearable. We were constantly exhausted as we had trouble sleeping. The mattress was not great and made loud noise every time we moved but this wasn't a big problem. The temperature in the room was the problem. The only way to get any sleep was to have a cold shower and then put nightclothes on whilst still wet and then get up again in a few hours and repeat this. Other than the temperature of the room, it was a pleasant room. We booked the Deluxe sea view room. It was similar to a Premier Inn family room but without the great mattress. Its a pity that we couldn't bear to be in the room because of the heat. Location wise there is a bus stop outside the hotel which is convenient. It is also within walking distance of lots of eating places and the electric railway. Other than the heat the hotel is nice and the staff are lovely. Just don't go to this hotel in summer!

We had a wonderful stay. OK the rooms are dated and could be cleaner but we can live with that. Room was above a disco one night, rude response from duty manager who did nothing to help us. Shame really.

We booked this hotel as Best Western have an excellent reputation. Sadly this hotel falls far short. It is in need of a refurbishment. It has the feel and looks of a hotel in the 1960-70s. The Paragon Restaurant is dreadful with no atmosphere and awful ambiance. The food is appalling and overpriced. There is a car park to the rear but you have to pay extra for the privilege

Check in staff 'Rowena' absolutely lovely & knowledgeable.Anything you want to know just ask . It was my birthday and we had wine & bottled water in the room Fabulous food consistently cooked well -Breakfast-cereals, pastries, fruit , juices , Full English breakfast sausages were my favourite and there mushroom as very tasty, there are menu options as well i.e Manx kippers, Eggs benedict etc Casino staff to give us some tuition on the roulette tables, they have a large bingo hall and slot machine area downstairs. Cash machine located in hotel and no charge for withdrawing: Manx £10's Beautiful views on sea front 5 days parking for £15 on the machine in car park insert £1 or £2 coins . Service staff friendly- coffee and tea in sea view room with biscuits , room serviced every day :spotlessly clean , body wash and conditioner all replenished if needed. Good bus services around island near hotel and very closely located to the electric railway which goes as far as you want i.e Laxey so pretty or Mountainous Snaefell. The horse trams are in Douglas and this gives a flavour of times gone by: Beautiful . The promenade in front of the hotel has distance markers and is popular with runners and walkers. Spotted hooded crows and cormorants from hotel room, very clean beach to walk dogs , dog curfew on beach between 10am to 6 pm This is an older building once you look past this and at the service your provided its an excellent place to stay and we hope to be back soon: Thank you

The situation of the hotel is great: on the promenade about half way between the centre and the tramway, and with a bus stop right outside. At the moment the prom is a mess due to road works, but the buses still stop there. On arrival it is offputting and quite difficult to decide how to get in. You have to use the casino entrance, go up the stairs and eventually get to reception. It is much easier if you are in a car, as reception is on the same level as the car park. We arrived in the morning to leave our bags, and know that we wouldn't be able to check in then, but we were welcomed and we were even asked to give our phone number and then they would call if our room was available earlier. However, check in is not until 4pm, even though check out is 11am. Have you been to any other hotel with these restrictive times. We have stayed in literally a thousand or more hotels over the years and have never had this. Ah well. Anyway, we got back at 3.30pm and, of course, our room wasn't ready - even though they were checking in other guests. Obviously the rooms are preallocated and they don't appear to be able to change them. I needed to do some work, so perched in the lobby (hardly any chairs so I sat on a wooded cupboard to do the work on my computer. We were told that they would let us know when our room was ready. Every one else was given a room, so at 4pm we went to check - and yes, our room was ready. Why were we not told as by then we were literally the only guests in the lobby. We went to the room, which was OK, but rather 'tired' and in need of paint - as was the corridor and the other places we saw. The mattresses could also do with being replaces. No A/C either. The next day we left at 9am and put the 'Make Up room' sign outside. Back at 3pm for a sleep and (of course?) the room wasn't made up. Eventually found someone, but she couldn't change towels etc as it wasn't 'her room'. To be fair, she did go & find the person who came to do it. But ..... we needed a rest as we were going out in the evening, and expect a hotel to provide facilities for their customers and not just to make things easier for themselves. The only meal we had was breakfast. We were immediately seated (well - told to find a table) and a waitress came once to ask if we wanted tea or coffee. There was a good breakfast choice, but yet again therewas a 100% leak of attention to detail. Noone checked whether anything wanted replenishing, and, of course, breakfast items disappear quickly. On each day we had to tell someone that things were missing: 'minor' things that there were no eggs! Then they took about 10 mins to arrive! So... our conclusion: it needs a real shake up and staff need training in all aspects of customer care. And ... they need to employ more staff. Shame since it is in a good situation, but Douglass has many more hotels at a similar price and if we go again we will sample those.

The first thing that attracts us to the hotel is the parking. You can always park near the hotel due to it having a car park. The hotel although not being the newest or smartest along the promenade it gives you everything that you want. Nice and clean smelling, comfortable rooms, fantastic breakfasts and restaurant food. Swimming pool and great views if you are on the front. Can be a little noisy at night if window open but other than that a great place to stop. We use it regularly now we have discovered it.

Hotel quite dated. I can't believe that in 2019 a hotel with a casino could be a selling point - I kept expecting to see Mike Baldwin entertaining his clients - very 1990s! I think the room we had was probably better than some I saw. We had a sea view with balcony - a real boon in this heat being having the door open. One of the huge panes double-glazing had the seal gone on it and it was like looking through fog. This is a fairly easy thing to replace and should be done. The balcony was a bit grotty too. The bed was like sleeping on a board. The bathroom! A toilet seat that was not properly fitted would soon have you awake. The bath was far too small to use. The flush for the toilet needed super human strength to use it. There is no way I can describe how hard it was to press this button hard enough to make it work. Go back to a handle folks or even a chain. The wash basin didn't drain for several minutes either. All this makes it sound like we had a terrible time but in fact we didn't and I would actually stay there again. The room was spotlessly clean and the staff were lovely. The point I am making is that Best Western need to get their hands in their pockets and do some basic upgrading of this hotel. Unfortunately as well there is work going on along the promenade tramline - I haven't heard anyone say that they want this work to be done and yet locals and tourists are going to have to endure another 2 years of it. You are spoiling your island folks.

My husband & I stayed here for our 1st wedding anniversary. Everything about our stay was superb, evening meal, same room as our wedding night and breakfast in the morning. We are looking forward to staying there again in the future.

Hi in the middle off a week long break . Love the Isle of Man we visit the Island at least once a year usual for a week. We have stayed at the Palace Hotel a number of times and always found it really relaxing and very good Unfortunately it seems the hotel is in need of money spending on it. Room 309 has a hole in the carpet right by the bed. The paintwork needs doing.Also the bed has seen better days. The hotel needs some investment as competition is in town in the form off a Premier Inn.

I'm fuming and having a real good moan, I really wished I had looked at ALL reviews A Little further before I booked. Hotel very dated and looks awful from the outside on both front and back. No where to park, extremely busy with the casino and checking in after 6pm. Parking you pay and it is reasonably priced,you can park free elsewhere, but after all its good to park near a hotel with luggage etc. Check in was fine, after all there was a big group of noisy drunken men, I thought oh no!! Hope we are not near them!! We wernt!! Got our key cards and off we went after no Instruction of where we were!! hotel staff were busy!! So here goes we booked a DELUX SEA VIEW ROOM!! OH MY what a shock! Think the word DELUX just meant bigger in the hotels description of a deluxe sea view! The room was very spacious two beds put together horrid furniture dated in fact very dated settee bed horrible and the room was roasting (it was hot weather,)small windows all dirty and splattered with bird crap so no view really !! there was 1 noisy fan, hey where can we place that for a bit off coolness! The window was tilt only, no point as didn't have any air coming through and with no air conditioning it was horrible! We went out! The first night was so uncomfortable, we went out in the morning for breakfast and we walked past other rooms on the sea view side we noticed that there were smaller rooms but with huge windows, and a door which you could fully open and even a balcony you could stand on!! So a visit to reception it was!! After asking if we could change our room the member of staff said, oh I will go get the manager!! Well how bad is this when I asked about the SEA VIEW ROOM with the balcony and would it be possible to maybe change to the room with better sea view and more comfort he said that's a downgrade why would I want that? A downgrade I don't think so we had booked a deluxe and yet it didn't even have a balcony I just didn't get it!! He said no rooms are free to change but I'll take your number and if we get any I will call you!! so my suggestion was give some one our room as that would be an upgrade! No, that is not possible be said, I cannot believe it what a joke!!! But he did state We could have another fan !! They didn't even bring it, I would not recommend this place to anyone especially with the lack of service received and after 4 days of staying there I was beyond relief to get out. The breakfast was the only thing I would say was good. Think what you want when reading this but I could not recommend it to anyone and if your going for more than 1 night don't stay in this hotel.

Stayed at the Best Western overnight while on a business trip in Isle of Man. Breakfast was nice, lots of choice warm and hot. Custom eggs on request - fried, poached etc. Staff were polite. Room was ok.

We stayed for 1 night as a chill night after the Southern 100. Red haired receptionist was so friendly and helpful on check in. A+ for customer service! We booked the bed, breakfast and dinner deal which gave us 3 course carvery which was excellent. Suite was very roomy with a lovely view of Douglas bay. We also had 2 free drinks in the casino bar which was an added bonus. Late check out at 12 meant we could avail of the Hotel pool after a hearty breakfast which has the best view of the sea and a lovely area to relax in. Highly recommend.

Sea front location on the far end of the bay, from the ferry - 10/15 minute walk to the centre. Very dated building, rooms are small and no air con. Bathroom shower controls a bit hit and miss and plastic shower curtain - yech ! Badly needs a refurb. Nice breakfast and staff very helpful and attentive but highly unlikely I will stay here again when there are better options just down the road.

We booked over the internet and found that the brochure picture is a lot better than the actual hotel. Parking is charged for on a daily basis and you have to prepay.. Reception is off the car park which is actually the rear of the hotel. Our room was at the front with a seaview and overlooking the promenade. The room was nicely decorated apart from the carpet, a bit worn in places. Work was being done on the tram lines outside the hotel and proved very noisy at certain times of the early morning.Breakfast was okay but the majority of the staff were busy clearing away rather than dealing with the diners. Would we stop here again, no its tired and a bit out from the main part of Douglas.

This hotel could definitely do with a major refit, the rooms at the back of the hotel overlook the car park and the air conditioning from the kitchen is whirring away all night, but if you can bet a room at the front the view in the morning across the bay is spectacular. The carvery restaurant is first class - plenty of choices and a keen and friendly staff.

We asked for a sea view room. Wow did we get one!!!! Room was average but clean and comfortable with balcony access. Bus stops were close to hotel. Town centre was a long walk. Biggest let down was no direct access to beach as there was road works with fencing all along front of hotel. This involved a walk to end of works. Not suitable for bad knees/hips!!!

Hotel a little tired but the food was really good .lots of choices.All you need in the room but would go sea view not the back which overlooks car park and has all the fans there.Rooms are small in the bathroom so if tall be prepared to squeeze .Staff really helpful ,Hotel is very warm no air conditioning although not advised to we kept balcony door open all night.Good location large car park

We stated her for a few nights with other family members. First impressions-not the most architecturally striking hotel I have stayed in but easy to get to on the bus from the airport. If coming in from street level you have to go upstairs or use a lift to get to reception. If you go in to rear carpark there are doors straight into reception. Reception staff were helpful and checkin was efficient. Rooms-the family rooms were decent sized with a good bathroom. Great views over the promenade and the sea and there were horse drawn trams going up and down the promenade all day. My mother and father-in law had a small balcony on their room which was a nice addition. The only thing i found frustrating was the lack of plug sockets-clearly these rooms were not designed for devices that needed charged. If travelling with a family it would be worth buying a USB charger with several sockets (approx £8 in Ikea). The rooms were clean and there was adequate wardrobe space. Breakfast-great selection of fruit and well displayed in addition to cereals and the usual cooked breakfast. Breakfast is served on the first floor at the front of the hotel and this gives you another great view over the promenade. We used the restaurant a couple of times-good selection and good quality. Leisure centre has good changing facilities as well as a good poll and small gym. There is also a sauna and if I recall correctly a steam room. As soon as you go onto the promenade there are horse drawn carriages going towards Douglas Town Centre or towards the Electric Railway. Douglas tow centre is approx 15-20 mins walk away and there are nearby places to get food or ice cream/coffee etc. It was a great being able to go straight out of the hotel and go for a run along the seafront ! Although it looks dated and tired form the outside this hotel suited us well for a few days.

The hotel is a little dated, but the most of the staff were polite and friendly. The meals were good and parking is available if your driving. The location is on the promenade with easy walking to the town centre if you stay on the promenade. Good spot for basing your tours of the Island with plenty to see.

Stayed as part of family group (adults) June 2019 Location: Situated on Queens Promenade overlooking the beach/seafront. About a five minutes ride by taxi from sea ferry terminal. Note: the Promenade is undergoing upgrades/transformation which makes it less picturesque than expected / more congestion but proved to be no significant issue for us. Hotel also has a car park for residents (we didn't bring a car with us) It was also about a ten minute walk to the Derby Castle terminus (For the electric railway) Hotel: Exterior (and interior in places) does look a little dated as previous reviewer have noted, hotel is home to the islands only casino (not that we visited lol), has Paragon restaurant (Which serves Brit cuisine) and Majestic (which serves Chinese cuisine). Also has a health club including swimming facilities on site (we didn't use this). About a 20 minute walk to sea ferry terminal /into Douglas itself along the Promenade which was very easy to walk. On check in, a complimentary drink voucher was included for each guest which was a great touch. Room: We booked a sea view room and were placed in adjacent rooms - room got very stuffy/warm however we had a nice balcony that we could just open the door to cool the room down. Good view to Douglas beach seafront. Kettle facility with tea/coffee hot chocolate facilities and biscuits provided. Restaurant: Breakfast started at 7am-10am each day in the Paragon restaurant (possibly longer at weekends- can't quite recall), good selection of English breakfast items, pastries, fruits and yoghurt. Majestic restaurant serves Chinese food - we dined at both throughout our stay- food was decent. Staff: The reception lady (sorry didn't get her name- curly hair lady with glasses?)- who checked us in was lovely and maintained her friendly manner/enthusiasm for all guests (there was quite a queue when we arrived) which was super impressive. All other staff we encountered were all very professional The hotel served for us a great base to explore the rest of the island, we would recommend a stay here - I would suggest paying extra for the sea view rooms with balcony as for us it really added to our stay.

Wouldn't stay again. Room was tiny and very run down. We where put in a room next to the heating system and the noise was horrehorre. Was moved to a room on the floor above but was still noisy. No aircon in hotel so rooms where uncomfortably warm in the night. The only positive about the hotel was the breakfast which was amazing.

Yes the building and decor are a little dated but this is of no consequence when measured against the kindness and courtesy of the staff and reception team who all made us feel very welcome throughout our stay. Our room was very comfortable with good bed and daily changes of towels and toiletries,( the only slight draw back was our room looked over the rear car park which, when the window was open picked up the regulkar motor bike sounds- but after all it is the IOM and famous for attracting bikers to the TT circuit! and proved no bother to us). After our first evening meal we decided to eat in the restaurant every night as the carvery style food was excellent and well cooked and the team were brilliant in advising and adapting the choices to suit my wifes GF and DF allergies, - thank you and well done everyone. Excellent value for money and ideallly placed to access the busses, trams and trains, but with such a delightful sea view and open beach to walk besides- a great place to just simply walk, watch and just sit in the sun as well. We will definitely be returning.

This hotel is old and tired, and the facilities and decor are dated. I used the pool/jacuzzi/steam/sauna while I was here and they were ok, clean enough but need updating. My bathroom wasn't very clean with several hairs left from the previous occupant. The decor of the room was ok, but like the rest of the hotel could do with a facelift. I stay in quite a few hotels for work and this is the worst I've stayed in for a while. In the middle of the night I had to change rooms as the person above me flooded the room and water was pouring out the light fitting. This obviously wasn't the fault of the hotel but there wasn't much in the way of an apology or explanation in the morning. Due to changing rooms in the middle of the night I stayed in bed longer than I should in the morning and didn't have time for breakfast so can't comment on that. I definitely wouldn't stay here again. Had I realised there was a Premier Inn on the island I'd have stayed there.

the hotel is situated on the seafront . It is nicely decorated inside and has a nice bar and restaurant . The food is very good especially the breakfast and the carvery . the bar is well stocked with whatever you may need. The casino is good and there is a swimming pool.gym.and cinema located there .The pool and gym are free to customers of the hotel . the wi/fi was very poor reception in the room I occupied and I had to keep re putting my password in. The rooms were clean and looked after very well byt he cleaning staff . All staff very polite and helpful . My only gripe was the view from our room which faced the backa nd over looked the car park and the roof top which had all the pipes from the hotel kitchen and central heating blowing out under our window also made a continual humming noise. I must say though I did not complain about it as the place seemed to be full and there was no where else to move to . I was disappointed because I had booked this trip last November along with my daughter and son in law and they had a lovely room overlooking the sea ? So I don't quite understand why ? however I didn't ask anyone as my husband (who is in his 80,s ) doesn't like complaining or making a fuss . We actually paid more for our horrid room than my daughter did for theirs ! The Island itself is fabulous I grew up on the Island and this a was a family visit for a birthday . I would return to this Hotel but ensure my room was nicer next time . Thank you to all the staff for looking after us .

Stayed here for a short break. Staff were warm and welcoming. Overall appearance is a touch dated but the experience more than makes up for that. Didn't use the pool so can't comment. Casino was a nice addition for some evening low stakes fun. Food at the hotel is really good with amazing breakfasts and good restaurant menus and all at great prices.

Stayed here again (once before five years ago), and the hotel decor hasn't changed at all, and is definitely looking tired. However that aside the staff are excellent and very obliging with nothing too much trouble (special shout for Tom who was exceptionally helpful), along with the great service the food was extremely good with some of the best breakfasts we've had at any hotel (& we've stayed in a lot). Overall very pleased.

This hotel used to be known the Hilton Isle of Man and both from the outside and inside it looks like not much has changed since it was franchised out to Best Western a few years ago. You can even make out the old Hilton signage on the outside of the building. The outside and inside of the hotel certainly looks a little dated and the rooms themselves could do with a bit of a modern makeover. In the room, be aware that you will struggle to fit a laptop or anything large in the in-safe. I appreciated the large bathtub in bathroom and the quality toiletries and sleep quality was really good in one of the sea facing rooms. You will get the odd slamming doors from an inconsiderate guest but full marks to the cleaning staff for moving about in the mornings without making too much noise. There is no air-conditioning in the room, however you can open the windows and benefit from some fresh sea air and a fan was also provided. Breakfast was ok and of reasonable quality, although it was a little lacking in variety. We were given a complimentary drinks vouchers each to use in the bar or casino which was also appreciated. Given the rather tired and dated look and feel of the place, I was going to give this place a 3 out of 5, however, as the staff handled an issue extremely well,(I had trouble accessing my room because the door lock failed on my final night) the hotel gets an upgraded score of 4 out of 5. I would consider staying here given the right price although I think a lot of the hotels at this price range may lose business to the brand new Premier Inn which is due to open soon in Douglas.

very clean great helpfull staff well looked after, not great but good food well presented and affordable .Also great chineese food down below .Not really centrally located but easy walk to central shopping.

We stayed here as part of the TT races. The room was seaside views which came in handy to watch the events that happened on the promenade and beach. There was a great breakfast included each day with plenty of options. The hotel is close to most activities so walking is a great option. A good choice.

Although the hotel is extremely hot at times, we enjoyed our stay here. The breakfast buffet was really good, the hotel rooms were comfortable and our rooms were always cleaned quickly. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Super friendly staff, very hearty buffet breakfasts with a huge variety- full English, cereals, fruit, yoghurts, toast - and best of all breakfast finishes at 10am weekdays and 11am on Sundays. Tea and coffee facilities in room but no bar fridge. Bed is super comfortable, we had a sea view room which was lovely to see how much rain had fallen overnight!! The sliding door out to the balcony was useful as we found the rooms (and entire hotel in general) far too hot and stuffy - so much so we couldn't have a drink at the bar it was far too warm to be there. Perhaps a bit too far out from the centre of town but walkable, though bus stops right out the front. It is however perfectly located for the TT race to reach the Nobles grandstand and paddock - all walking distance. The buffet carvery dinner option available is reasonably priced and offers a good selection - quite tasty too. Our main issue was the lack of hot water, at least every second day of our 6 day stay we had no hot water in the shower - management told us it was because everyone was using the water at once. Not a valid excuse considering it's a 4 star hotel with 100s of rooms on offer - if the water cannot handle that many users then don't offer the rooms! Nonetheless the rooms were spacious and super clean.

The room was OK but lacked modern amenities like usb sockets, the windows were filthy and the curtains were a bit smelly. The decor is tatty in places the bed was very uncomfortable. The only positive thing is that the reception staff were lovely,

Over all very happy with my 4 night stay. Yes it is a little tatty around the edges but nothing that affected our enjoyment. A minor issue with a slow filling toilet was sorted straight away. All the staff we had contact with were friendly and helpful. All in all I would stay there again and would recommend it.

On the face of it, the Rather ugly and sorry looking 1960's BEst Western Palace on the promenade in Douglas is not the most welcoming building, the fact that it's also the islands casino puts off many from trying out the spacious open plan restaurant which is on the first floor and fronted by big glazed windows overlooking the bay. A great place to sit and eat as you watch life going on about the promenade. An excellent and extensive buffet option for starters complemented by a lovely (if rather limited) Carvery option. Food is however excellent quality. Recommended for anyone wanting a good meal at a reasonable price in a lovely seafront setting Very disabled friendly with level street access and lift to the restaurant. Pay and display parking available at the rear Don't be put off by what you see outside !

Rooms are terrible, our first room had springs almost poking out of the mattress. Carpets old and fraying. Rude staff at breakfast. £15 extra to park your car. Rooms very warm inside and no way to adjust the heat. On the positive side, nice spa and pool and the food quality was 8/10.

From the outside this building is not very appealing with its sixties appearance but step inside and it is a different experience the staff were very friendly and helpful Although the rooms were small they were very clean with comfortable beds the only down side is that there are no rooms with walk in showers .The showers are all over the baths which proved differcult for some of my group who had mobility problems The food was proberly the best I have had in any hotel with the choices at breakfast and dinner.We were even offered extra fruit And goody bags so that's we could make sandwiches to take out as our ferry leaving the island was very early mornng

Great Hotel , wonderful views, however try not to use the Chinese Restaurant attached tp the hotel, top whack prices for mediocre food, the hotel food is brilliant, would go again anytime but not to the Chinese restaurant.

Great staff and service. Rooms lovely and clean, with a good welcome tray with biscuits and hot chocolate. Lovely buffet style breakfast. Fantastic welcome from reception, very informative. Wanted a sea view so paid for a room at the front, the views are lovely just a shame about the windows being old and misty which spoils the view. A plus was being able to leave the balcony door open at night and fall asleep to the sound of the sea. Used the pool and spa which is a decent size pool and jacuzzi, wanted to use the sauna but it was being used as a changing room which was a downside.

Cant fault anything about the hotel from staff friendliness to how clean the rooms were. They have excellent facilities. Breakfast was great and even catered for vegans. This was my second stay at the hotel and will definatley go back.

We recently spent 4 days and nights at the Hotel. After reading some of the reviews we were wondering what we would find. We had a lovely stay. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was very good. The accommodation was comfortable and clean. We couldn't find fault with anything and would happily go again.

Recent spent three nights here whilst on a short break to the Isle of Man. Paid a little extra for a sea view balcony room which afforded superb views of Douglas Bay. Use of the spa facilities was included so I used the pool and Jacuzzi which was great after a day out on the island. We ate in the Paragon restaurant in the hotel on the first night and I would highly recommend that for food, also the buffet breakfasts were superb.

This building and its interior are in desperate need of updating! Things to note: * Unwelcoming reception * Stained tatty walkway carpets * Very dated, musty smelling room * Tired bathroom with grotty fixtures & fittings * The most uncomfortable bed I have ever had to endure the discomfort of - the pillows also had a dubiously stale smell to them so I slept with one wrapped in a towel to diffuse, the remaining went on the floor. * Short curtains that fail to block out light * Poor breakfast service with substandard ingredients. I'd strongly advise against staying in this hotel, at least until a significant update has been completed. Extremely disappointing.

Hotel from outside looked tired and dated and 60s building design looks very out of place in the promenade of Douglas Bay among the fine architectual buildings surrounding it. Inside is in need of some TLC but was clean and tidy, dining room was overlooking bay with good views, staff in restaurant where very friendly and food was more than adequate and very reasonably priced. All food was served piping hot and the carvery had a good selection of meat etc although the vegetable choice was the same each night we stayed. Our room was excellent, a lounge overlooking the seafront with bed settee, coffee table plus 2 lounge chairs and table in front of full glass patio window and balcony. TV, fridge etc. Bathroom with twin sinks,bath and shower. Bedroom overlooked the rear of the hotel onto a flat roof, not the car park so was very quiet it also had TV. I booked a deluxe room but this could easily be described as a suite it was excellent. We would not hesitate to stay here again, look past the appearance of the building looking tired as the staff more than compensated for that. So friendly and efficient.

Stayed two nights and first impression was dirty carpet, tatty reception and hassled reception working alone. Asked if we could have breakfast as were checking out at 5.45 last day - after practically haggling stating we were only getting two days and not asking for more Cathy sorted it. Breakfast ok but plates burning hot, waited ages for new baked beans!., staff miserable and unbelievable behaviour from server when asked for tea, checked my friends pot and hinted she thought enough there for me!., you would have thought I asked for gold nugget!.. room 226 disabled yet I had to get in my side like a crab sideways in!.. view of roof with noisy air-con.. then add in disco noise till gone 12!.. website pics do not match reality. No throw or nice coloured pillows, stain on curtain, grubby tiles... sad because hotel amenities such as pool/casino excellent.. most staff all need full customer service training, total refurb required. Told hotel full so couldn't move rooms - went celebrating our friends 60th, told staff but no interest in marking his special day. Just poor and £194 for two nights feel didn't get value for money.

This is really quite an old hotel in a prime position on the seafront. Quite large with lots of facilities but is is very dated and tired everywhere you look. Reception staff were excellent and very friendly, staff in the restaurant were almost comatose and no interaction or even a smile as they looked away to avoid eye contact. For some reason I had an accessible room which was on the third floor miles along a corridor. Could hardly get in the bath for welded handrails , all round the room was very very basic and tired

overall stay was good but bedrooms are on the small and crowded size, breakfast was buffet but good for its type. Staff pleasant and helpful.Car park is a big advantage in Douglas as not many other hotels have one but it did get very full when a film was on at the cinema in the grounds.

The hotel is deceiving, marvelous when you get in to the hotel, food was fantastic, bar prices very good, staff where all very helpful, only thing what annoyed me was paying for parking at the hotel carpark! Very petty.

Stayed for 2 nights with my grandson. The pros for staying at the Palace : Excellent indoor pool. Good gym. Fantastic breakfast (Manx kippers of course). Good selection of tv channels in room. Reasonably priced. The girl at reception was very chirpy and helpful. Cons: Stayed in a twin bed room , the beds were extremely narrow and uncomfortable, but we both managed to get some sleep. We had a “sea view” room with a balcony. The balcony was around 2feet deep and the door was locked. The car park is pay and display , but no concessions if your staying at the hotel. One last point : I know it's not the hotels fault but they were laying new tram lines outside the hotel on the prom . Overall a decent base for touring the Isle Of Man.

First reaction on approaching hotel was to drive straight on,against our better judgment we decided to give the hotel a try,first room the bed was disgusting,and we refused to stay in it the next room was better.

Staff are so friendly, welcoming and attend to your every need. What more could you want from a hotel that has everything. Sea views, Casino, Great steaks if not perfect in my point of view (Just make sure you don't eat all day). I will be back with my wife as due to staying with business I couldn't go site seeing. I have given 5 stars but my only little gripe is that work was happening outside my window but I fully understand that work to the hotel needs to be completed sometime. Perfect business trip and will definitely be back.

The hotel is a large building. Currently looking a little sad with age proximity to the sea and the dust from the the promenade renewal works. But do not be deceived, the staff more than make up for the cosmetic shortcomings. As part of a quite large group of mixed ages our demand were many and various. But this hotel has the staff to deal happily with anything little or large. A group of mainly mixed nationalities but all trained to the same high level. I cannot over praise them

Weather was great. A little disappointed by hotel as not overly family friendly as sports bar closed and as had children could not use the adult only bars. The pool was warm and went there early morning but it is often frequented by elderly women who swim in a line and take up most of pool and make little attempt to accommodate others.

An excellent hotel, very helpful staff, good food comfortable bedrooms, good decor and a very convenient location. Wonderful if you have an assistance dog they can't do enough for you or your dog. If I go to Douglas again this will be my choice of hotel. We were late arriving because of the Ferry but they still had a three course meal ready fo us at 00-15

Excellent food, very attentive staff and large comfortable room. One of the best places to stay in Douglas, although, it is on the Promenade it is very quiet and you will be able to get a good nights sleep, before starting your day with a a well stocked buffet style breakfast. The food is always hot and there is always more than enough to keep you going for the morning. Highly recommend this hotel.

Arrived late afternoon after a delayed ferry crossing had requested a room with a balcony for myself and partner and we weren't disappointed, the room was on the 4th floor room 421, it was clean and nice and bright plenty of toiletries and teas coffees hot chocolates and biscuits, we had an amazing view of the bay, although there was road works underneath us it didn't interfer with anything there was no noise from other rooms, the carpets were a bit thread bare but that was the only criticism of the room, there was plenty of places to eat at a reasonable cost on the first night we went to the Chinese restaurant to treat ourselves not the greatest in the world and very expensive compared to Bristol we found alternatives there are restaurants in the hotel but my partner is quite a fussy eater and nothing tempted him although the menu was reasonably priced never tried the breakfast although I'm sure that was quite adequate as well, the hotel it's self cannot really be faulted the staff are ok but not over friendly as in some hotels I have stayed in, it wasn't too busy but as we were leaving on Good Friday it became busier the one thing is that you have to pay for parking at the hotel at £4 a day which isn't too expensive but I feel if you are staying at the Best Western it should be free, also it's worth getting a disc for parking on the island as most are parking disc only difficult to find any where to park with out this other than that a beautiful part of the world with amazing views countryside and coast lines very well worth a visit definitely ticked off my bucket list.

This hotel was ‘4 star' however didn't seem like it to me. I would say it's more of a 2/3 star. The pictures of the outside of the hotel make it look smart, clean and modern; when in fact the inside is very dated and could do with much refurbishment. Positives: -sea view -clean room -good breakfast -access to the pool and casino -reasonable price accommodation and bar -comfy bed -lively and fun casino -close to sea terminal Negatives: -breakfast tables have a sea view, but the windows are so dirty it takes away from the beauty of outside -£15 to park for our stay - not free parking -quite a walk into town and not as central as it makes out to be -poor wifi -windows weren't clean and the outside the hotel looked horrible -some areas of hotel such as the stairs going down to the pool were smelly and didn't seem clean -rooms not soundproof -on check in we weren't informed about breakfast times or access to the pool. We were simply given our keys and told what room it was (no directions). Disappointing when I overheard another couple be checked in later on by somebody else who gave them lots more info. This hotel is more suitable to large coach parties and groups than a couple wanting a quiet few days away. The location is good if you have a car and can drive to other parts of the island, however it is quite a walk to the bars and restaurants of Douglas so we did end up getting a taxi one night.

10 of us travelled to the hotel for a family wedding. Check in was simple & straight forward and thankfully our rooms were ready even though we were early. We paid extra for a sea view room & were not disappointed although the room was a twin rather than a double as booked. 1 simple phone call to reception & within 10 minutes the twin room was transformed into a king. The room itself was adequate. It's a bit tired looking & the carpets are a little threadbare. The bed was clean & comfortable & clean towels every day. The balcony doors are a little draughty & the curtains didn't close fully but we put up with it. My mother in law did however ask to change rooms as her room was like a wind tunnel. That was handled very quickly & professionally. The breakfast choices were superb. Lots of hot items & the temperature of the food was perfect. I ordered the kippers one morning & they were beautiful. The wedding itself was amazing. The staff were so helpful & I can honestly say the food was the best I've had at a wedding. The hotel itself is a little tired looking & could do with a facelift but its adequate for a few days break. Definitely worth paying a little extra for a sea view room as the rooms at the back overlook a carpark & kitchens so it can be very noisy. We will be back at some stage.

Absolutely fantastic stay, even though it was only for two days. The room was impeccably clean with a fantastic view. The amenities were excellent and would highly recommend the pool area. My only gripe was the bed.... It was bordering on harsh.... Orthopedic probably, but uncomfortable all the same.

Good Hotel in excellent position on the prom. Superb views of Douglas Bay from the sea view rooms which also have a balcony. Room standard is very good and serviced daily. Tea/Coffee facilities and good size flat screen TV provided in all rooms. The breakfast is good (included or £9.50 pay on the day depending on your booking). Good bars and restaurants including one Chinese.

This review is on behalf of my parents Mr & Mrs Hines who stayed at the hotel from 29th March to 1st April. Their review is as follows: As seasoned travelers they could not speak highly enough off their break. The hotel staff were all courteous and professional at all times. The food was outstanding, and cleanliness of the hotel superb! A special mention has to go to Philomena (bingo manager)and Stephen (casino manager)as throughout their stay they showed warmth and hospitality seldom seen out with your own family. My parents would highly recommend this hotel as it was one of the most enjoyable and memorable experiences they have experienced. This can be substantiated as they have already booked to go back again on 17th may and hopefully many more returns in the future. If you are reading this review please do not hesitate to try this wonderful hotel as they are positive you will not be disappointed.

Stayed here with a group of friends April 2019. Total disaster and a waste of hard earned money. The hotel had no hot water for the entire weekend of our stay! Hence the leisure facilities were also closed. Had to boil a small kettle for water. Rooms weren't clean - stains on the walls and carpets. Room at the back of the hotel was incredibly noisy (air conditioner, kitchen smells and bikers revving their engines every morning). Staff unhelpful and no assistance offered to change hotels. Eventually secured a 50% discount on the room price but in my opinion a full refund should have been given. Problem also with prostitutes in the casino area! Only good thing about the hotel is the breakfast. Would never stay in this hotel again. Probably the worst I have ever stayed in. Complaints to management have not been sympathetically looked at.

Arrived to be informed that there was no hot water at the hotel. We were offered TWO free drink vouchers per couple. 1 EACH!!! We were told that a part was en route and the problem should be fixed soon. No alternative accommodation was offered albeit some of our party did make their own alternative arrangements. No hot water from Friday lunchtime until we checked out on Sunday lunchtime!! We haggled for a discount, and the manager eventually gave us 50% off the price as that was all he was allegedly authorised to give. To be fair, the reception staff really had a hard time over this weekend and did their best to appease the many guests who besieged the front desk about the same issue. No leisure facilities, pool, sauna, steam room etc. Good job we had some rugby to go and watch!!

One member of our group has already coined this trip "The Cold Water Tour". The hotel is looking tired and is in real need of a refurbishment. The beds were comfortable but the windows and frames were a poor fit and they were drafty. The major issue was that there was no hot water. Cold showers were the only option for keeping clean. We were informed of this as we arrived on Friday lunchtime and it was still not working when we left on Sunday afternoon. It's lucky that it wasn't cold. The opposite was the case with the staff. They were all friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and professional. The breakfast was excellent. Tasty, fresh, well prepared and plentiful. Kudos to the reception staff who were under a great deal of pressure but remained calm and courteous throughout. I would consider staying here again but would require reassuring before booking.

My husband and I recently visited the Casino Palace hotel in Douglas for five nights. On arrival the staff were very welcoming and happy to store our bags until check in. The next day we went to speak to Reception with regards to a problem we had. We started to tell the Receptionist about our problem and straight away the Duty Manager appeared from his office and asked what the problem was. The duty manager Dave, immediately took charge of the situation and within minutes had dealt with the problem efficiently. We had a wonderful stay on the Isle of Man which is definitely down to Dave. Thank you again.

The location of the Palace at the heart of the Bay is fantastic and if you are lucky enough to get a room at the front overlooking the bay the view in the morning is lovely. The bedrooms are finished well and are still in good condition since there last refurb. They are not spacious but ample enough for a comfortable stay. Unfortunately its the common areas of the hotel that lets it down. You can't avoid feelings like you are in a hotel way past its hay day and needs some time and money spent on it. Passageways from the lifts to the main restaurants and entrance feel dark and gloomy, with over patterned carpets. I've never had to play hunt the reception when I've gone to a hotel before as the entrance is round the back near the car park where as I came in at the front.

Here I am a diamond select member...no room upgrade here but on their website they have suits available. It's a shame some of these hotels don't treat customers fairly. You spend thousands of pounds to reach this status and some of these hotels give nothing back. This is one of them.

A comfortable and relaxing stay enjoying leisure facilities in the adjoining Health Club, restaurant and accomodation. Staff most welcoming in reception and again in the restaurant for a pleasurable dining experience for the 3 course evening meal.

Our first visit to the Island in nearly 7 years,we needed somewhere with a car park & as that is limited in Douglas we chose the Palace. This was not our first visit to the Palace by any means,we first stayed here in 1977 & have been back a number of times since,my first memories of the place were in the mid 1960's when on holiday with my parents,the place was brand new,painted bright white & floodlit at night,it certainly stood out! Sadly,like all of us it isn't so new any more & does look a little tired but once we settled in it felt like being home. We were on a 4 night break,arriving on the ferry around 1800hrs on Sunday March 24th,you now have to pay for the car park(£4 a night) which probably explains why there were always spaces,unlike on our last visit,so parking was easy & that is where the car stayed for our stay. Check in was courtesy of Rowena who was delightful,friendly & efficient & we soon were in room 227,great sea view room,spotlessley clean,which would prove to be a comfy home for 4 nights. The Palace is well situated with a number of eating options nearby & inside,we ate in the Paragon Restaurant one night,great menu,which changed daily,excellent service & lovely food. Outside there are bus stops to head in either direction although during our stay it was impossible to reach the one on the far side of the road(unless you were an Olympic Pole Vaulter!) as work on the Horse Tram lines mean that there was a continous fence from the Castle Mona to Summerhill Road,annoyingly the work started before 0700hrs on more than one morning,not good! Check out was again with Rowena,very enthusiastic about the Island,the hotel & the future,which will include us returning far earlier than another 7 years that is for sure!

In the 25 years that we have been visiting this hotel I think that it remains adequate but not a memorable experience for the right reasons. Finding that we were without hot water last night, we contacted reception. A member of staff visited us and said that he thought the problem was the hotel's state of full capacity and the demand on hot water at 18.30 pm. So, we went out to the theatre unwashed! Not really good enough......all hotels want a 100% capacity score and they should be prepared with the correct infrastructure to meet the demand on services. The service at the bar is adequate but you don't get the impression that you are a valued customer. The service at breakfast is fine but please tell the staff that it is unprofessional to be chatting over tables about their own trials and tribulations in life - I don't want to pay to hear them - I want the restaurant staff to be focused on delivering the best service possible for customer.

This hotel was recommended to me by my husband who stayed here on business earlier this year. We booked four double rooms, see facing for four people. The rooms were well equipped and spacious. The staff are warm, friendly and ultra helpful. We had tried to get tickets for an event prior to booking our stay and on arrival Daniel mamanged to get us tickets for the event, which made our stay, the hotel is a short walk from be main shopping area and restaurants. The breakfast selection was excellent. I had a whole plate of Manx kippers and poached egg - amazing! The food at the Grease/Dirty dancing night was amazing. The bufffet starter included a wide range of seafood and salads. The carvery has a huge selection of vegetables and mouthwatering meats. The desserts were excellent. The swimming pool is clean and over looks he sea. This is an exceptional value for money hotel.

This is the first hotel I look for availability when planning a trip to the Island. Close to the ferry port, plenty of parking, set on the promenade. Good size and comfortable rooms with attentive staff. Good buffet breakfast with something for everyone. Can't ask for any more.

On arrival at the hotel the exterior looked dated and in need of a refurbishment. However, the hotel grew on me during my stay. The staff are very friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. The location is also great and was impressed with the food in the restaurants. I do hope the hotel owners decide to spend some money on a refurb, particularly externally, as this could be a very nice hotel.

Had a fabulous time last night at the above evening. Room was chilly when we arrived but soon warmed up. Food was gorgeous and plenty of it. Staff were attentive and entertainment had everyone up dancing. Will be back for more.

Return visit to a comfortable double bed and all the necessary amenities in the room. I prefer to have light naturally come in to the room but with black out curtains and no other curtain on the separate track already there I made do with propping back a corner. The buffet breakfast is plentiful and fresh with additional options which can be ordered. Cereals, fruit platter, fresh fruit, yoghurt, full English and light and flaky pastries. If that's not enough choice then poached eggs, kippers, porridge etc can be ordered. Staff are all friendly and helpful.

Couple of days away catching up with friends, clean and welcoming hotel, The staff on the front desk were great as were the staff at breakfast, good fantastic service. clean and tidy rooms. Great meal in the evening in the bar and even better breakfast with plenty of choice

Best western palace hotel is a perfect place to stay in Douglas. Hotel was immaculatley clean. All staff were very friendly and welcoming. Facilities were exceptional. We only stayed two nights but cant wait to go back for longer stay. I travel to Douglas on a regular basis and it was by far the best hotel ive ever stayed in on the Isle of Man.

Although this is a 1960's hotel the rooms are well maintained, warm and comfortable. Very good staff and restaurant choice and food quality excellent for this class of hotel. Great for a short break. Worth paying a little extra for a sea view room.

We enjoyed a great weekend in Douglas at the Best Western Palace. Very convenient to the town and easy to get to from airport and ferry. The breakfasts were great and the lounge excellent. Comfortable bedrooms though a little cramped.

Stayed here for 3 nights for work. Hotel was very busy even at this time of year. Hotel was okay, with tired bedrooms but they were nice and clean. Staff were very helpful with a couple of admin problems I had, Roweena in the reception and the Scottish girl (can't remember her name). Ate in the bar rather than restaurant at night which was okay, nothing stunning but average priced food at average quality. Staff are a plus point

Look the Best Western is not a five star hotel but it does offer very good value. We went there end of February 2019. Good room if you get one with a sea view. The breakfast is very good and I would recommend the Manx kippers. Ok the hotel looks tired but then you need to understand that you would be paying double the price. Overall very happy experience.

Organised a surprise party for my mums 80th Birthday- I organised it from Australia and staff could not have been more accommodating from initial email and phone contact with Claire, who met with me once I was on the Island to finalise details, to Monica who was on hand to help bring everything together. We stayed in the hotel - along with other family members that traveled over from the uk for the party. The hotel is tired and could definitely do with a freshen up - the carpet in our room was threadbare. Would be nice if there was an area to relax in with soft furnishings instead of sitting at tables and hard chairs in bar area The staff make this a good hotel as they are friendly, very helpful and accommodating. We had a medical issue whilst on the island and had to extend our stay day by day and reception staff ( Cathy & Fiona) were great. You have to pay £4 per day to park your car or front desk can give you a card for the dashboard to save you looking for change each day. Loads of road works being done in the promenade- feel sorry for all other businesses in that end of the prom as no stopping or parking cars.

Stayed here with my wife for our grandsons birthday been here a few times over the years,but we were a bit disappointed when we went to our room to find out it was a disabled room,you could only get out of bed on one side you can't fault the breakfast here it is probably the best in the isle of man.if you want to stay here just ask them not to book a disabled room,other than that you will have a good stay

I chose the hotel mainly because it had a pool. I got a good price so was happy with that. The hotel itself was a bit dated and tired. The staff were all very nice and helpful. Restaurant was nice for breakfast with a good view over the Douglas. Pool was very lovely and clean. Room though basic was clean. Needs a lounge area where you can chat and drink coffee.

So as the title says my wife brought to the isle of man as a surprise. We traveled to the hotel by taxi which was not to expensive at £20. We got to reception and were greeted by mark who is very friendly and being from mersey side would not expect anything less he had us checked in and gave us lots of information about the island and things to do. The room was clean and beds were comfy. The only really small negative comment i could make is the internet is slow. Sunday morning breakfast was very fresh and staff were friendly and accommodating May was fantastic. We gathered our bits and headed to check out. there was a small cue but Cathy managed to get through these in a timely manner. Its great to see such happy and friendly reception staff being first interaction with the hotel they both did make you want to stay.Would we come back to this hotel yes for sure we would. Thank you such a lovely stay and keep up the good work.

We had a great few nights here. Bedroom was excellent, both restaurants were good. Breakfast was excellent. The outside is looking tired, the carpet worn in reception - but the staff are great. You do need to pay for parking - but it is not too much, and the hotel rates are good. We paid a bit extra for the sea view - I would say worth it.

Once you've got over the run down block of flats look to the hotel.... Being forced to pay for parking in the hotels own car park in order to pay to use their facilities! Hotels in the UK down to Travel lodges that utilise pay for car parks provide you with codes etc... but not here where customer service is bypassed so they can get as much money from you as possible. When I enquired who gets free parking I was told only corporate business people.... not day to day customers. I was then told you can park for free on the promenade (which is currently in the midst of roadworks and there is no parking... the nearest is a mile along the promenade for only 2 hours!! Plus whilst enjoying Sunday lunch... the staff were clearing the restaurant and clearing away food etc.... practically rushing you out not waiting for guests to finish their meals. This place needs to revisit the basics of customer service as currently seems focussed purely on money grabbing.

We came to the island for a family funeral, which could have been a stressful experience, but honestly the staff at the hotel were absolutely so lovely and helpful that they made everything go really smoothly, which was a great help! We think that Best Western are really so lucky to have such a great team of staff working for them at the Palace, and we hope they are appreciated! The staff at reception were so lovely and keen to help with any issues we had, the staff at breakfast were really sweet and even offered to save/cook breakfast when we were a bit late! When my dad lost his tie the housekeeping woman was so keen to help us, and even came to find me to check whether we had found it! the view from the restaurant is brilliant, and the pool is absolutely beautiful! The building has seen better days, and Best Western could probably do with investing a bit in the building itself, but as a customer this isn't an issue as it is offset completely by the staff! Thanks for a lovely stay!

We had a lovely stay at the Palace yesterday. Staff were friendly and helpful. Our room overlooking Douglas Bay was spacious and clean. The bed, though a little squeaky, was very comfortable. Go and visit the casino, we had a blackjack table to ourselves and the croupier patiently showed us how to play the game. We only had £10 worth of gambling chips but we played for 20 mins and the staff were charming. Great breakfast in the morning too.We'll be staying at the Palace next time we decide to spend a couple of days in Douglas.

This is the 1st hotel I have ever stayed at that I have had to pay to park my car at this has only happened since Best Western has taken over it you pay for the room etc then are expected to pay extra to park your car in their car park !!!!!!!!

A great hotel with everything you could need. Pool, gym, casino, cinema, and loads more. Great location and fantastic food. The steak was fabulous. Staff and very friendly and helpful. I even got a complimentary drink at the bar.

Very impressed with the hotel and the staff. The food was tasty and hot and the staff very helpful and pleasant.The only downside that I could find was no comfortable seating in the bar area. A special mention for Rowena on reception for her warm and very friendly manner. An asset to the hotel.

Due to a flight cancellation we were put in this hotel for 1 night.Cathy on the front desk was superb in sorting 50+ of us with our rooms effortlessly. As for Tom in the restaurant,great guy,explaining everything to us.Nothing was too much trouble for all the staff,so polite and friendly.The rooms were warm and clean and a great choice in the restaurant.The next time we visit Douglas,will deffo be staying there.Big pat on the back to them all.

Myself and a few friends visited for lunch. They have a bar menu and a set menu which a two or three items. We were seated in the dining room with a terrific view of the promenade and sea. Unfortunately it was only the view which was terrific as the food was served cold. My roast ham dinner could have been great as the ingredients were all there but it was stone cold. My husband had the Thai fish curry and unbelievably the fish was tough! We were the only diners in the restaurant that day which I think is a reflection on the quality of the food being served.

I have been in the hotel no more than 45 minutes and there have already been a number of things frustrate me. First off, the hotel carpark is a pay and display, which in its self is not an issue however, you can only pay this with coins at the machine. What sort of hotel in the 21st century, with its on charged carpark does not have the capability to pay for your parking either at reception or by card at the machines! I made enquiries as to where I could get cash and get it changed and was told this could be done at the bar. I asked the bar staff for cashback and was told this was not possible then the barman did not know where the nearest cash machine was. Turns out there is one within the hotel/casino complex but this was found to not be dispensing cash. The next nearest cash point was a 20 minute walk! Eventually I had to move my car from the hotel carpark to a spot on the prom that is free until 8am. Next frustration was at the bar when I wasn't able to charge to my room. When checking in I was not asked if I wanted open an account on the room, which is surely standard practice when you have bars and restaurants within the hotel.

I BOOKED A ROOM LAST SUMMER FOR £165, after booking last year I was taken ill and have not been able to travel, I still paid the invoice, I have little movement in my leg and hand and have been advised I can not travel, I contacted them 6 months before going and they will not refund a penny, 6 months to sell the rooms!!! booking.com have said yes but these horrible owners/managers have said NO PLEASE do not put money in there pockets when they don't care I am waiting for my results of CANCER

Foreign staff talking in their own language in front of customers which is beyond rude, from what i know of certain eastern european languages they have been bad mothing and insulting cumstomers most of which are oblivious. Looks so old it's about to fall apart. Also where are the managers? Do they just sit in the back office all day while everyone else slaves away? Can tell it's a mess some of the decent staff just about hold it together, they don't get the credit they deserve. Finally the worst thing is that hideous carpet in the dining room. Put me right off my food which was otherwise quite nice.

I think this hotel was built in the 1960's and it has a somewhat dated external appearance. Internally it is well maintained and has all of the facilities I expect. In addition it has a fitness centre and a casino. I did not use either.

I booked this hotel about 7 months in advance, I was taken ill and had to cancel 20 Weeks before my arrival date, plenty of time to relet the room, but NO, Money had been taken same day as booking, AND WHEN I ASKED FOR ANY REFUND PART OR FULL I WAS TOLD NO !!! 5 months to relet it, and they wont give me a penny back, Please just book somewhere else that cares

Went for along weekend to take Christmas presents for grandkids, even though there were works parties on, which were very noisy, the staff were very attentive, rooms serviced every day. As ferry home was cancelled due to bad bad weather, we went back there and was given another room for the same rate we had paid originally.

We stayed overnight having stayed in the Isle of Man several times before. The Staff were fantastic and really polite and helpful. The rooms were clean and more than adequate and all in all fantastic value for money. Keep up the good work guys!

Please note that I am only feedback the party we have had .Haven not stayed,haven't used any facilities. The party was great,staff were very kind and the food it is so mouth melting. Great venue for your special occasion.

Facades and interior are in need of an update. 1st room had a broken window that would not close. 2nd room had a faulty door. Staff very helpful and accommodating however. Great breakfast and good location. Rates are also reasonable.

I stayed for a couple of nights due to working on the Island, from Check In to Checking out the stay was perfectly acceptable, the room was of a good standard, staff were always pleasant and polite, food in the restaurant was of a good standard. Overall very good value for money.

I booked through a US booking website and got a really great rate, only the room had some problems - on a lower floor, overlooking the parking lot, by the heating vents and close to the party zone. This was OK on a Thursday night, not so much on a Friday night. When I talked to the staff at the front desk about my fears for Saturday night, they offered me a swap for a different room, or for a modest fee a special deluxe room far away from the party zone with an incredible view of Douglas Bay. Totally worth it. The staff were great. They moved my packed bags including the toothbrush I had forgotten to pack, and the anti-allergy pillowcase I had forgotten to remove. Really great service. The hotel is consistent with most Douglas establishments - has seen better days and is doing its best in the current economic environment.

The front of the hoteland ground fllor level looks a little dated but great service from the staff, very well presented and comfortable rooms, excellent choices at breakfast made our stay a very pleasant one. The hotel also has a swimming pool to.

Lovely room, clean, breakfast very good ,staff friendly polite, always I will return here. I also like the Majestic chinese restaurant ***** (is downstairs when you go out from the hotel on the right).what can I say more.. always pick the sea view rooms!! I like this hotel most for the spa facilites

Stayed for a night mid week, while in Douglas on business. Great location, really welcoming staff, nice clean room, and a lovely sea view and breakfast in the morning. Would definitely stay there again!

had a 2 night stay ,was able to get in our room early 8.30 am thanks to the helpful chap on reception.Had a room overlooking the bay ,great view,and could not fault it.Breakfast was excellent with great choice including Manx kippers.Ate in the restaurant 2 evenings ,had to say the chef on the carvery was pleasant and helpful, and one of the reasons we came back the 2nd evening ,food was very good and good choices on the carvery.Staff are all polite and helpful and the palace will get my business again.As a tip when visiting the hotel ,the bus from the airport stops outside the hotel quick and easy for a mere 3.10

I stayed here last week for 3 nights whilst on a walking trip to the island. The room was clean and tidy, the bath was lovely and clean and the bed super comfy. I stayed 2 nights in a room overlooking the car park and one overlooking the sea - I would pay for the sea room again as you can open the door and be refreshed from the air whereas overlooking the car park all I could hear from the open window was the air con unit. Breakfast was a good selection and the hot food was good quality - as was the juice. I think the bread could do with being changed it seemed like cheaper sliced loaf and let the side down a little bit. The wait staff were cheery and helpful both at breakfast, in the bar and in the bar for dinner. The receptionist was great when I had to extend my stay by one night and the ease of room moving was fab customer service! I ate in the bar - the pork belly ribs with mashed potatoes were Devine! Highly recommend. It's a good clean stay for a great price- wouldn't hesitate to use again.

The member of staff at the check in was excellent and extremely helpful . The room was clean with good toiletries. The room was difficult to cool down to comfortable level even with the window as wide open as possible. Generally the hotel could do with a bit of updating . Breakfast was buffet style and very good quality.

Staff lovely and helpful, parking available at the hotel at £4 per day, pool nice, never dined in the hotel as there is a fantastic Chinese next door. Rooms nice and clean but hair dryer was faulty. There is a night club below and we could hear people talking early hours but that didn't bother us. To be fair it is a nice spacious hotel but needs a little updating, would stay again

Everything about this hotel was perfect - location, wonderful sea views, comfort of room, breakfast, lunch and evening meals. Every member of staff we had dealings with were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Very convenient for buses. Having use of the pool etc was an extra bonus and again staff were very helpful. The Chinese restaurant was excellent too. Too be honest I can't understand how there have been negative comments about this hotel on other reviews.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to try and sleep in a nightclub? Wonder no more! We were situated on the 4th floor (I presume the furthest floor from the nightclub below) and you could hear absolutely everything. It woke me up and kept me awake for hours. I feel sorry for anyone who has to stay any closer to the noise and have their room shaken by bass to an even greater extent. Nothing was mentioned about the potential disturbance before check in which annoyed me even more. Other than the ridiculously loud and incessant noise, the rooms are dated and tired and the bathroom is among the worst designed toilets I have ever seen. The staff were fine.

Stayed for an organised event and was first time in Isle of Man and from this experience will be my last. The hotel is very dated and very noisy if you have a room overlooking the car park. Staff on reception were unhelpful at best, particularly over the electronic keys which kept failing. Having to trudge all the way back to reception each time was a pain only to be told it couldn't be faulty! Staff in the restaurant were not educated or aware of allergy restrictions and attempts to find out what ingredients were used were futile. Ended up getting food outside of the hotel after the first day. Wouldn't recommend.

Stayed for 2 nights and it was a good place although a little dated. All the staff whatever their roll where helpful and polite. The breakfast bar had a great selection but I chose the full English and very nice it was too. It is as I said a good place but with a little more attention it could be a great place. The carpets around the hotel need to be cleaned or replaced. The beds are a little creaky and worn, the rear of the hotel needs to be resurfaced and tidied up as it's not a great view. The windows need to be replaced with pvc as the old aluminium ones are corroded. Looking up from the carpark to the room windows you can notice how old and worn the curtains are. A plus is the pool and hot tub but they need to install changing cubicles. It may sound a lot but it is just superficial and cosmetic. I have stayed here twice now and would stay again without hesitation.

Stayed for a long week end with our 9 yr old grandson. First impression is a bit disappointing because the main entrance to the hotel is off the car-park at the rear, so you see bins, air conditioning units etc.. Reception is a bit under whelming but staff are lovely and very helpful. We had sea view (connecting) rooms which both had a small balcony. They were adequate in size. Biggest gripe was how noisy the rooms were, I woke up very early one morning convinced there was someone chatting in my room! Breakfast was good with plenty of choice for both hot & cold. Restaurant menu is a bit limited but what we had was good. Swimming pool/health club is excellent. Parking is available at £4 per day for residents. I must add a note - our grandson was taken ill on our first night and had to be taken to hospital - staff, particularly night manager was a star!!

1st time on the Isle of Man what a disappointment. The island is beautiful shame the hotel is not so. The beds need replacing springs coming out the mattress & the mattress protector was more like tissue paper. I had to buy antibacterial wipes as the remote control was so dirty. Breakfast quality ok, service terrible had to ask for tea after waiting staff walked past on numerous occasions, no interaction with any of the guests. The place needs a refurb including replacing the window seals. Glad to see a Premier Inn is coming to the island, it's needed.

The Hotel is ideally located on the Promenade, Douglas Seafront. Regular Bus services to/from the Airport stop outside the Hotel, as does the Horsedrawn Tram (Check operating dates before going). The Manx Railway for Laxey (change for the Laxey Wheel & Snaefell Mountain Railway) is a 10 minute walk away. For those arriving by Ferry, the Port is 20 min walk away from Hotel. Staff in Reception & Restaurant were polite & friendly. Meal prices were on par with other local establishments, & were very enjoyable. The IoM Steam railway is a good 30 min walk away, but Buses outside the Hotel drop you close to the Station. We purchased on arrival at Douglas Airport, a 5 Day Explorer ticket for £39 + £2 card fee. This ticket is valid on all Buses & Trains on the Island, and is great value for money. We had a minor defect in the Bathroom, but as soon as it was reported, the issue was rectified immediately without fuss, and complete discretion. We would certainly consider this Hotel again should the opportunity arise.

This hotel is excellent everything from start to finish was great. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Food excellent. Bedrooms overlooking the sea. Attention to detail was very well done. My favourite was the evening meal starters. Do have kippers for breakfast so tasty.

Very much enjoyed my stay here, part of LTM Friends group. Great food and staff. Other reviewers have mentioned the 1960s decor- to me this is a bonus, great period features in the bar and restaurant including the wood panelling and the fixed corner seating.Don't ever change it, there are very few hotels with surviving fixtures from that decade...!

Our first view was not good as it is a 60's building but although our room was small it was clean and comfortable.The food we had was very good especially the breakfasts where my husband indulged himself with Manx kippers.The staff were good and very helpful.It probably isn't the best hotel on the island but we enjoyed our stay there.

The hotel had everything we wanted . Gym, pool, bar, restaurants and a great sea view. The hotel is a bit dated but it's clean and the staff are good. Try the Chinese restaurant underneath the hotel. We didn't use the casino so can't review it. We did get two free drink vouchers at check in. There is a Spa Supermarket two minutes down the road if you need it.

First time in a Best Western and I was not disappointed. Spent three nights here. The hotel is well maintained and welcoming. Room with a sea view was excellent, good coffee and tea making facilities refreshed each day. A few more TV channels would be useful but not a big issue. Breakfast choice was outstanding, probably the best I have seen in any hotel, all high quality and plenty of choice. Staff obliging and helpful. Local amenities within short walking distance and the town centre is mainly a pedestrian zone. Would have no hesitation recommending hotel and location to anyone.
