"Nice place, easy to find"
We have stayed here many times. On the whole the hotel is nice and clean and comfortable. Except this time… the only problem was the filthy rugs on stairs, hallway, and room. The room wasn't as bad but still hadn't been vacuumed and was stained. The room, other than that was very clean, bed was comfortable. Will stay again. Gas station and Mr Mikes restaurant right across the street.
"Pleasant rooms. Just pleasant."
This is the second Best Western I've stayed at this summer in BC's interior, and frankly both have failed to live up to the BW standard I have experienced elsewhere. To begin, let me warn you that this two storey hotel does not have an elevator, and if you have any sort of mobility issues, you will find the staircase to be problematic. I asked the clerk for a ground-floor unit, but they were not able to accommodate my request. Some other concerns that I would share are that the carpets in the common areas are filthy. The complimentary breakfast was good, but got bottlenecked by there being only one two-slice toaster. They had upgraded the bathroom in the room we had, but curiously had not bothered to update the plumbing fixtures in the shower. It was not a very good shower, and it dripped long after it was shut off. There was also no toilet paper holder, which seemed very odd. How hard is it to install one of those? In the bedroom, there was no chair that you could sit it and watch TV, but nevermind the TV was so small that you would probably need to be sitting right up next to it anyway. TV Channel selection was good, as was the wi-fi service. Check-in process went well. I can appreciate that the local economy in Castlegar may be suffering, but it's not like this hotel has a lot of competition either. I think that the BW chain should look at helping bring this, and other BW hotels, up to a standard that travellers can expect.
Dear Ewan, Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. I appreciate your honest comments about your experience and the areas where we have room to improve. I'm sorry we were not able to accommodate your request for a ground-floor room. We were fully booked during the last couple of days, which limited our ability to make room changes. Our property does not have an elevator, and due to the original structure of the building, adding one for second-floor access is unfortunately quite limited. Whenever availability allows, we do our best to accommodate our guests' room location preferences. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the complimentary breakfast, although I understand the frustration with the toaster bottleneck. We are currently looking at upgrading our toaster, and I hope this will make the breakfast area more efficient for our guests. I also appreciate you bringing the shower, plumbing fixtures, toilet paper holder, and other room concerns to our attention. We would be more than happy to look into these maintenance items. Unfortunately, we were not able to identify your room number from the review. If you are able to share it with us, we would appreciate the opportunity to inspect the room and address any issues so that our future guests do not experience the same problems. Thank you as well for recognizing the good Wi-Fi, channel selection, and smooth check-in experience. We truly value your feedback and are continuing to work on improvements throughout the property. Warm regards. Ege Senay General Manager SureStay Hotel by Best Western Castlegar
"Terrible Hotel"
This is the worst hotel I have stayed in in several years. The location is great, easy to find. At check-in we find out that there is no elevator in the building. The front desk gentleman did offer to carry our bags up for us if we could not do it. We were able to take our time and take care of it. The room itself was way too small. You could not walk past each other - you had to step out of the way to let the other pass. The beds and pillows were horrible. There was some plastic over both so it made a lot of noise when you moved. The bathroom was small as well. The lighting in it was horrible. If anyone had to put on any make-up, they would not be able to see. When taking a shower in the morning, I had the water temperature fixed and then put it to go into the shower head. I stepped in and the water was freezing cold. It was horrible. The worst part of the hotel room was the AC unit. It did not work. I had to keep hitting a button to get the AC unit to run. Closer to the time we had to get up, it just stopped working. I opened the balcony door. I hardly had any sleep and was not a happy camper. Breakfast - OMG - the worst ever. The coffee was bad, the juice in the machine tasted weird, the sausages had an after taste. When I checked out I was asked if I had a good stay and I told the lady absolutely not. I told her about the AC unit and she asked me if I called downstairs because someone was on call 24-7. I said it was in the middle of the night and I was not going to have someone come up and fix the unit then. I will NEVER stay at this hotel again and I would recommend against others staying here as well.
"Negative"
My first impression (rm114) was oh man does the room smell like cigarette. The fridge was crazy loud (had to turn it off). The toilet self flushed every (I'm not kidding) 3-5 seconds, we ended up closing the door to help with the sound and then getting up to use the facility meant walking into a wall of smell. The air conditioner was the loudest I've ever experienced (which would be fine if it had been consistent) and the bed was so hard (and I like a firm bed) it put my back out. Will never stay there again.
"Not a good one."
This was not a good hotel. Really basic to shady room. No elevator, so watch out if you have suitcases. Receptionist at the border of rude, indifferent at best. Would avoid if I were you unless absolutely necessary. Next to a road and noise insulation could be much better.
"Solid, Comfortable Stay in a Basic Room"
This was my second stay at ShareStay Hotel (motel) in Castlegar—my first was in 2023 in one of the rooms at the back with a compact shower. This time, I stayed in a similar ground-level room at the back (#128). The room was basic but clean, and the bed was very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful, and having parking right outside the room was convenient. I appreciated the in-room coffee, which was surprisingly good. The only drawback was the armchair and footstool, which were noticeably stained. Aside from that, the room was well maintained. The complimentary breakfast was fine for a quick bite in the morning, though it might feel repetitive over a longer stay. Overall, ShareStay is a solid, no-frills option if you're looking for a clean and convenient place to stay in Castlegar for a night or two.
"Manager need to refresh some trainings."
Not a friendly hotel. General manager was rude. I travel a lot and most nights I preferred best western hotel. Managers behaviour was awful did not even apologize. Want to charge me for extra night even I checked out by 11am which is normal check out time. Denied to provide me an invoice at first when I was mad at him then he provided me an invoice. Not expectable.
Hello Minhaja, Thank you for reaching out and sharing your review. I'm sorry to hear that you encountered complications during your stay that affected your experience at our property. I appreciate the opportunity to clarify your concerns. First and foremost, our General Manager did not intend to come across as rude. It seems that the nature of the conversation may have caused a misunderstanding regarding BWH member benefits and late checkouts. Regarding late checkouts and cancellations, these are only available if there is capacity and capability for the property handle, and unfortunately, due to limited availability on your checkout date, we were unable to accommodate your request. Additionally, we did not receive clear communication about the reduction of your booking or the late checkout. As you left the room after the standard checkout time of 11 AM, we could not waive the fees associated with the modifications, as the room could not be cleaned and sold for that night. I will ensure that during my next property inspection, I review our communication practices to prevent similar situations in the future. I would also like to apologize for any confusion regarding invoicing; our bookkeepers are currently working on modifying our tax information. I regret that this issue occurred during your stay. If you require a link to the reward members' terms and conditions I am more than happy to provide it. Best regards, Hayden Butler Property Manager
"Worst Best Western --"EVER""
Rooms were not cleaned other than wastebaskets dumped. Trash from previous visitors was under a desk and behind furniture. My grandson found an unopened bottle of marijuana edibles on the floor by the bed. Management did not return my call when I asked the front desk to speak with them. I booked 2 rooms for 3 nights and definitely did not enjoy the experience.
Dear Steven Venables, Thank you for reaching out and sharing your feedback regarding your recent stay. I apologize for not meeting your expectations, particularly concerning the issues with cleaning. Your feedback is invaluable as it enables us to improve our services and provide a superior experience for all our guests. I appreciate that you have stayed with us multiple times over the past year. Our front desk staff may have assumed you were familiar with our current breakfast offerings as they would have noticed you are a returning guest. They likely want to inform you that we are in the process of renovating our breakfast area and kitchen to provide not just a deluxe continental breakfast but also a hot breakfast option. I apologize for any confusion regarding this project; we anticipate that the renovations will be completed by mid-November. Regarding the cleanliness of your room, I regret that it did not meet your standards. I assure you that cleaning is a priority for us. Balconies are cleaned during our semi-monthly deep cleans. Some guest rooms, unfortunately, lack blockers under the beds are not addressed during daily cleaning services and are dealt with during the slower points of the week. I completely agree that discovering a cannabis product under the bed is unacceptable. However, due to its location, it may have been overlooked during routine cleaning. I also understand your concerns about communication from management. I see in our records that you reached out on Sunday of that weekend and spoke with a senior staff member at that time. The following Monday, our General Manager attempted to connect with you in the morning but unfortunately missed you. Once again, I am truly sorry for the experience you had during your stay. If there's anything else I can assist you with, please don't hesitate to contact me directly at (250) 365-2128. Sincerely, Hayden Butler Property Manager SureStay by Best Western Castlegar
"Would stray again"
The room was very quiet and clean. Had good coffee maker. Well ventilated The included self serve breakfast had good variety and the staff were mindful for its cleanliness. The hotel is in a good area close town and shopping. Ample parking Would stay again for sure.
"Great place to stay in Castlegar!!"
Great clean rooms and good beds and pillows. A great place to stay in the center of town. Close to several great attractions and places to see. The Arrow lakes area is amazing and your close to Nelson and Trail. Climbed to the top of Dove hill with a view of the entire city.
