Learn more about Tbilissi
The capital of Georgia, Tbilisi is home to countless architectural, natural and religious treasures, bearing witness to an intense past marked by Russian and Persian rule. Neither entirely European nor Asian, Tbilisi is multi-ethnic and also multi-religious, with Armenian, Catholic, Orthodox and Gregorian churches coexisting in total harmony with mosques and synagogues. The country's emblematic statue, the « Mother of Georgia », Kartlis Deda, proudly overlooks this wide variety of tourist sites, where relaxation and conviviality are the watchwords.
So set off without further delay to discover this capital with its strange charm, staying in one of our Best Western hotels. As Alexandre Dumas so aptly put it, Tbilisi is a land of legend and romance, with its varied architecture, palette of colours and hot springs. Immerse yourself in Georgian lands during a stay in one of our hotels in Tbilisi, always meeting your expectations in terms of both facilities and service.
Your hotel in Tbilisi
The very origin of the capital's name is an invitation to travel. « Tbili » means warm in Georgian, and it was King Vakhtang Gorgasali, in 500 AD, who ordered a city to be built near a hot spring with supposed healing properties. While true history often mixes with associated legends, Tbilisi nevertheless remains the city of hot springs where time seems to stand still. Do not hesitate to enjoy a relaxing moment in the famous baths of Tbilisi, both for the well-being brought by the sulphurous water and to appreciate the typically oriental decoration.
Step into the history and legend of Tbilisi by exploring its old town, which is full of historic sites. Wander through the winding, narrow lanes, admire the cobbled streets and small courtyards, before visiting the various museums, the fortress and the many churches. If you had to choose just one, the 13th-century Metekhi Church is worth a stop, before recharging your batteries in the sulphur baths with naturally hot water at 47 °C. The invigorating effect is guaranteed.
For art and history lovers, Tbilisi is full of sites and museums to discover, such as the State Museum of History, which houses many treasures dating from before Christ, as well as an impressive ethnographic, archaeological and historical collection. A little anecdote: the Dmanisi excavations unearthed the skull of the first European inhabitant. And for lovers of jewellery and precious enamels, the State Museum of Fine Arts is a pure marvel, notably for the famous Khakhuli triptych, the largest enamel piece in the world.
Continue your discovery of Tbilisi by taking the funicular before stopping at Mtatsminda Park to admire the panoramic view over the whole city and the Church of St. David.
