Best Western Valdez Harbor Inn

This property is exceptionally clean and well maintained. The staff be it housekeeping, the front desk, or at breakfast were all so very pleasant and helpful. The bed was very comfortable and all bedding and towels were like new. Could not have asked for a better location. Close to everything and spectacular views be it the mountains, the marina, the sunrise, or the sunset. Would not hesitate to stay here again next time we are in town.

The hotel staff are very pleasant. The lounge staff and meals are incredible. I will drive the two hours it takes to get there just to eat the ribeye. The steaks are cooked perfect every time. The lounge staff make you feel like you are long lost friends. The ambience is incredible. You will get lost in your thoughts looking at the harbor while enjoying your meal. Sam and Mikaleigh are the best!!

Staff was wonderful. Close proximity for walking. Food was good. Price was perfect. Beds and shower rocked!!!! Would definitely recommend staying here. Was looking into other places in the area and once we arrived I was so happy this was available and we were able to stay at this location.

Probably the best located hotel in town, the Best Western is near enough almost everything you go to Valdez for. I've been there to deliver training, to get training, to attend conferences and for overnight stays due to business. The BW is my 'go-to'. When you consider the Ferry Dock, the Civic Center, the Port and harbor, and many of the rest of the features available in downtown Valdez, the BW is within about 15 minutes - walking time - of almost all of them. And it's quiet. And it's got breakfast. And a bar and restaurant. I've stayed at at least three hotels in Valdez and I'll take the BW over the others. I haven't even been in the new Totem, and I'm sure it's pretty glitzy for Valdez - but the BW is an 'old friend' that I'll stick with. Most of the rest of them don't begin to compare with it.

I was very disappointed as you should be of the Best Western Valdez. Good location. But the building needs painted half the light in the Best Western sign were burned out The place stunk. Carpet filthy. I ate a loaded bacon sandwich. Which tasted like it smelled in there. How can you mess up bacon I couldnt eat it. My husband told waitress of situation and she gave us a discount Personally having the name Best Western on that sign You should be ashamed

Pictures of hotel were taken a long time ago. Entire facility run down. Rooms were clean . Breakfast hit or miss. Well stocked, decent tasting one day to next day of everything a mess and cold. Not clear as to where Breakfast is located. Front desk staff not friendly.

The hotel was dark and dirty. The best thing about the hotel was it had a laundry and the staff was very friendly. We didn't get breakfast because we were talking the ferry to Whittier. It was close to the ferry terminal. The hot water in the shower ended abruptly.

Stinky, dirty hot room. No heat control. Car alarm woke us up all night. Free breakfast ha ha was what we got. Free microwaved food. We would never stay at a Best Western hotel again. I think we should receive a refund

The wife had never been to Alaska and I wanted to go again. So for our 50th Anniversary and my 75th birthday. Here we are. We had a very short walk to several restaurants and the glacier cruise we took.

This a very large hotel. I didn't realize just how large it was, two stories and no elevator that we could find. The rooms are average size but comfortable. Had everything we needed. This hotel is older and in our opinion in need of an update. But not in a bad way, just a little dated. The breakfast was FANTASTIC! Had everything you could think of including our favorite, gravy. Able amounts and surprisingly not crowed with as many people stayed in the hotel. I did love that it was right on the harbor and so close to the tours, town and things to do. Kind of nice not having to drive to anything. All in all, the hotel to stay at for the fair price it offered.

Good sized and clean room, good sized bed. However the place was somewhat old fashioned and in need of refurbishment. Breakfast is included but not great. For example pancakes left in the hot tray were rubbery.However there isn't a great deal of choice of hotels in the town,

Great location, service, amenities and staff. My stay was only overnight but I will stay there again in the future. Wide variety of self serve breakfast. Easy check-in. Comfortable beds. Smallish gym.

This is a two star hotel and really feels like it. There is no sound proofing - you definitely don't want a room on the ground floor. The location at the harbour seems like a good location but is noisy (especially with the hotel bar) at night. The room was adequately clean but poorly maintained and laid out. The thermostat was set too high. Bed was pretty comfortable. Staff were reasonably helpful.

Good location at the harbor. Easy access to the Stan Stevens boat tours. However, town is small so everything is within walking distance. Room was adequate but there were several bus tours there so there was no hot water for a morning shower. Their system is inadequate. Wi-Fi was good. Breakfast was included but it was very unappealing. Eggs were overcooked. Coffee was terrible. No fruit except apples. Dinner offerings were only sandwiches and burgers. Suggest you stay elsewhere.

This is a nice property. The staff was friendly, they accept pets, and it was very clean. Valdez is very quiet in the winter so we ate at the hotel and wow. The food was very good. Everything we had was superb. The second evening we looked at 2 other restaurants and decided to eat at the hotel again. Good choice, another great meal. Valdez is Alaska's best kept secret. The continental breakfast was good as well. The staff is friendly. Thanks for a great weekend in Valdez.

Great location with everything in Valdez within easy walking distance. Very good restaurant for dinner and a nice breakfast spread included in the room rate. Nice room with good WiFi, shower, and workspace. Quiet at night. I would stay here again.

We loved Valdez, a relatively quiet frontier location where the hotel overlooked the quiet fishing port. The hotel itself was relatively basic but had all the amenities you could ever need. As well as the very friendly, helpful staff, there was a well-equipped laundry and a restaurant bar that serves an amazing seafood paella. The room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. Sitting down in the evening we counted six glaciers – now that is a room with a view.

Adorable and affordable, we love staying here when we come to Valdez. I live a few hours away in a rural community so we come to town for errands and appointments. I've been looking for a reliable spot to stay and am so glad I found this! I can bring my dogs, the rooms are well equipped and the restaurant is DELICIOUS. Always a relaxing time in an otherwise hectic trip.

Nice little hotel to spend an evening in. Accommodations were decent. Room for improvement but no complaints. Breakfast that was served was average as well. Walking distance to restaurants and shopping which was nice. Right next to the harbor so that was nice.

Forget about getting any sleep if you are unlucky enough to be stuck on the first floor. You can hear every step, bump, voice, door shutting etc from the floor above. I heard footsteps all night long. The rooms are old, stale, and smell bad. Seriously, pass on this place if you can.

We booked the only suite in the hotel nearly a year in advance. There wasn't much point as there was no view to speak of, definitely not of the harbor, and the balcony and chairs were covered in bird droppings. The hotel does not have an elevator and suite was located 2 1/2 flights up. Desk clerk at least helped us with our bags on check-in or we never would have made it. Their website should state no elevator. When we checked out a small lady was on duty so we had no one to help with the bags and it was a massive ordeal to get them down that long flight of steps. Suite was spacious and TV was large. Oddly, there was a whole wall of closet space, why I have no idea. At least they had several luggage racks so I could actually sit on the couch for a change. Room had a microwave and ref., and a DVD player, but no safe. Also had no A/C and temp was impossible to regulate. Mattress was the hardest one we had on a two week trip. Curtains weren't big enough to cover the sliding glass doors. A two foot section stuck out of the other end from where you pulled the curtain. On the other hand, there wasn't enough lighting in the room to see what you were doing with all the lights turned on, especially in the closet area, there were no lights. Water in shower was either scalding or cold, no in between, had to keep adjusting the knob. Toilet paper holder was broken and end kept falling off. Bathroom door would not stay open and it was very stuffy in there. Breakfast was decent. They had real eggs and a choice of plain or mixed with spinach, onion, and cheese. They had bacon and sausage and potatoes, biscuits and gravy, and pancakes in addition to breads, yogurt, and fruit cup, plus some apples and oranges. Only place we stayed on a 2 week road trip that had real plates and silverware. They also had gloves and hand sanitizer to use, but no one was. We came back from our glacier cruise on the 2nd day of our stay and asked the front desk for clean towels. When we got to the room we discovered that we didn't need them as the maid had come and serviced the room. When guy came with towels we told him we didn't need them after all because the maid had been there. He seemed VERY surprised, and said," What, the maid came?" as everything stated that there would be no stay over service. It was nice to have a clean room for a change.

We visited the restaurant and sat at a table that had a bar in it for 10 min before someone came over. When she came she asked what can I get you to drink, I stated we will start with water and can we see a menu. Next thing I know another woman came over and yelled at us and said if we don't order something from the bar we can leave and go to the other dining area and wait in line, she was really rude! We got up and went to the other part of the room and they said it would be about 30 min before we could get a table, so we left and told everyone on the bus the next day about the treatment we received. Not nice way to treat visitors!

Great location. Ok beds. We kept having problems with our room key and it finally stopped working. The desk staff also could not get it. We had to pry the room open and switch rooms. The staff was helpful in this manner and we did receive compensation. Breakfast was typical

was nice overlooking the pier & shopping at the near by shops. Close to my family that live there so it was easy for us to stay at your hotel. Also easy to drive around to nearby Visitors Center which was very interesting.

I always get a little bit anxious when I see a BW on my escorted tour iternary. But this one was very good. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, was on 1 st floor - no airco but felt safe for open window at night. People in the lobby always friendly, greeting people. Breakfast ok. The town is beautiful, a must visit in Alaska

We arrived to be told our room had been cancelled and they were full. After confirmation of our reservation we were found a room. The hot water was not working for 24 hours so no shower, the wifi was not responding and breakfast was cancelled as the staff were off sick. What more can we say, it was all a bit hopeless. The restaurant was closed both nights we were there.

Hotel certainly surpassed our expectations. Really wonderful location with great views over the harbour and distant mountains. The staff were all exceptionally helpful and friendly. The room was spacious, comfortable, quiet and we really enjoyed our stay there for 2 nights. Dinner in the restaurant was also very good. Highly recommended.

We came into town after 4 days of hiking and stayed at the hotel for our final night. The overall stay was great, only downside was the noisy people above our room but that's usually what happens whe you're on the bottom floor. Would stay again and request top floor next time.

Nice hotel in a great location. Very friendly and helpful staff. Yes there is no air conditioning but it wasn't an issue leaving the window slightly open at night for more ventilation and yes we were on the bottom floor of the hotel. We nearly didn't stay at the BW Valdez due to other comments on Trip Advisor but are glad we ignored the noise and had an enjoyable nights stay.

We were visitng Valdez to go on a nature cruise, and the hotel is right by the tour office and dock. It meant convenience for parking and being up early for the tour. It is an older hotel and yes there are things that could be improved but for us it was convenient, friendly, served a good hot breakfast. The beds were comfortable so had 2 good nights sleep, shower was very good and there were good facilities in the room: microwave, fridge, coffee maker, iron etc. There is also a reasonably priced guest laundry.

The hotel is in a good central location right on the harbor next to the boat tours. The staff was friendly. Overall the room was about what you would expect in a small town with decent furnishings that are not upscale and slightly worn. We got a decent and comfortable night sleep. Breakfast was included with eggs, sausage, potatoes, pancakes, etc. There was one nicer/newer hotel in town, but had several tour buses parked in front of and was fully booked (likely with tours). Outside that hotel and the Best Western the other hotels were a major step down. We also stayed in one of the other hotels and it was a far cry from this hotel. If we went back to Valdez, we would gladly pick the Best Western.

The king room we reserved had been double-booked and we walked in on another customer so we were given a different room with 2 doubles but that was ok as we had a wonderful view of the city and harbor. No elevator to the 2nd floor but we managed with our luggage. Overall it was an enjoyable stay.

The staff was courteous and friendly, and very accommodating as we had to change our dates by a couple of days on short notice. The breakfast was excellent with a good selection to choose from. The room was very clean and quiet, with even a little bit of ocean view.

The room seemed nice. It was comfy and clean. HOWEVER, the floors are extremely thin...we heard EVERYTHING from the room above us...the TV, footsteps, and even them snoring! When we mentioned our problem on check-out., it seemed like they already knew the problem existed in the wing of the building they put us in. Be sure you ask for a room that is not in the noisy wing...remember, they know which on the noisy rooms.

The hotel provides everything you need. The room was clean and inviting. The hot breakfast buffet was fantastic. The internet was great. We streamed movies a few nights. The staff helped us with restaurant recommendations, places to visit and ideas for adventures. I did 1 load of laundry. I was grateful for that.

Only downside was no elevator, but there are only two floors so it isn't the biggest deal in the world. The Breakfast options were delightful and the rooms were beautiful and clean. Would highly recommend!

Clean rooms with great staff. Easy walking distance to anything in Valdez. My trip was three weeks, with nine nights in Valdez. Maintenance was working on the laundry room during my stay and after explaining my situation they opened it up and let me use it, even though workers had been doing sheetrock work during the day. That kind of customer care can be hard to find these days. Can't wait to return.

We arrived in Valdez with no prior planned accommodations. Best Western was friendly. They took care of everything for us. We planned to stay only one night but stayed two because the price and the way we were treated were both awesome. What a beautiful city!

This hotel was in a good location by the harbor, but it is older and you can tell it. The room door didn't really fit right on the frame, the room was very musty, and the bathroom showed its age. The room/bed was clean, but it just felt dusty and smelled musty. We noticed some other hotels in Valdez that looked newer and are probably nicer, so check around and see what is in your budget first.

Stayed here with our tour group. Average decent hotel. Rooms were okay comfortable and clean and thats all that is important. Decent breakfast. Restaurant so-so. Close to our departing Boat Cruise the next day.

This the perfect place to stay in Valdez easy walk to the hole town. The harbor is the setting when you walk out of the hotel. Restaurants and fishing are all within just a short distance. Beautiful mountains surrounding hotel also make it breathtaking. We only had breakfast there but it was very good.

Great location. Walking distance to restaurants, trails and the marina. Good breakfast, with more options than normal, including hot food. Rooms need updating, showing wear and tear, although the beds were comfortable. Expensive for what you get.

Great location! Room was well below average as it was outdated with no decor or any type of coastal ambiance. Being a pet friendly hotel makes this hotel a bit more tolerable. I'd most likely stay here again.

It was a perfect spot to walk around town. Very clean and the breakfast was awesome. Staff were very friendly . They allowed us to use the parking lot after check out to go on our day cruise. Beautiful lobby.

Everything in AK is overpriced, This hotel is too. The rooms are run down. The location is convenient as it it right at the harbor. I would have given it 4/5 but the breakfast is horrible. The cafeteria is dirty, food is just gross. Do not eat here.

As a general rule, I try not to stay at Best Westerns as they are always (in my experience) gross. This one was very clean and the people were so kind. As expected, it was pretty outdated but it was fine! Great location too.

I get a hotel room for one purpose: to sleep. This hotel was ridiculously noisy. Rowdy people went up and down the halls all night. A drunk man accosted my teenage son in the hallway and tried to take his room key. The hallways themselves are dingy and dimly lit. The non-smoking room smelled like someone had used bad air-freshener to cover up smoke. My 18-year old son was using the the business center at night, and a hotel employee came in and asked if he was watching porn. The whole stay was unpleasant.

I had gone fishing by story Island out of Valdez Alaska. The seas were to rough to cross open water so we sheltered in a small cove. At check out time my partner left my car keys at the front desk. When I made it to shore late in the afternoon, I returned my room key and picked up my keys. The staff was awesome! I wasn't charged for the delay in returning my room card and they had no problem helping out getting my keys to me!

The only place I stay while in Valdez, breakfast, Internet, TV and friendly. They make you feel right at home. Restaurant has great food and the lounge is where new friends are made and where old friends meet up again. Love it here!

Their rooms are stuffy with no a/c. The place is old. They provide a fan if you want to use it as your a/c. Wish the website disclosed no AC. We were shocked once we arrived. The place is convenient but over priced.

Spent two night at the hotel, the room appears in good condition and clean. We had the only room with a balcony which was nice. All rooms have Alaska AC — open the window, but was not an issue. Breakfast was god and hot and a nice selection. The hotel could use some general maintenance outside with some rotting wood, but this is Alaska. Overall this was a good stay and would come back when in Valdez

We spent 2 nights and our stay was great! Very friendly staff who were eager to help! Our room was very clean and the view was amazing! We must have had the best view in the hotel! Our breakfasts were excellent and the best of our entire 3 week trip around Alaska! We ate all of our meals at the restaurant. The Chef and his staff were great! Wonderful food and service!

Fantastic crew, very clean and meets all expectations. Stay here often for business. Would prefer to stay here more than any other location in town. Quality breakfast, restaurant on site is also very quality.

The rooms are quite nice although the hotel is definitely dated. I always sleep well, it's set up well for office use, the internet is reliable, and the shower (temperature and pressure) are wonderful. Although there is a more luxurious and newer hotel in town, I really prefer the Best Western for the price and overall value. It's also great to relax at the end of the day at The Wheelhouse Restaurant. Complimentary breakfast is quite good with a changing assortment of hot offerings as well as cereals and other cold foods.

I stayed in 3 different rooms for a total of 5 nights and they were either baking hot like a sauna or freezing cold, and the thermostats had no effect on the room temperatures. None of the exterior windows properly sealed. The showers pulsed between scalding hot water and luke warm throughout each shower. Front desk staff were aloof and didn't seem to care. My co-worker (female) was given a room with a door that was visibly broken and did not shut completely or latch. Front desk acted like it was a huge inconvenience to change her to a room with a door that was secure. Same treatment when I asked to be switched to a room that wasn't boiling hot. She informed me that the heat in the entire building was turned off and none of the "experts" could figure out where the heat was coming from and I should just sleep with the window open. Outside temp was 10-20 degrees all week. She switched me to a room that was like an ice box... It's been about 10 yrs. since I stayed here and it's gone downhill and needs of some serious maintenance/repairs/upgrades.

I was told there were no pets when I checked in. Then I see dogs in the hotel. That was followed up with howling and barking during the day and repeatedly all night, each night I was there. I definitely won't use a Best Western again, anywhere.

The front desk refused our request for an extra blanket until we made a call to complain about the girl's horrible attitude. She rolled her eyes at us and told us “no” when we asked very nicely if we could have an extra blanket. We live in Alaska, it was very cold. They also refused to honor the room price they had given us over the phone, which was after a 7 hour drive. I even had email proof and notes of the conversation with the associate who had given us the price, and they still refused to honor that (we are military.) They need to train their people on customer service and honor the rates they give people over the phone.

I will this. This is by far the worse Best Western I have ever stayed at. However, I would stay there again if I didn't find anything better for around the same price. I say that to say it was OK. Not great but not horrible. It was very clean and the housekeepers were very nice. However, the lady at the front desk was very rude upon check in. She is mad at the world. She gave us our key and that was it. No breakfast information or hotel information not even where our room is located information. The sign out front said hot tub or whirlpool. I called and said so do you guys have a hot tub. She said “NOPE” and hung up. Just miserable in her life and job. Never a smile. The room is by far the smallest BW room I have ever seen in my life. Do not pay extra to have the “ocean view”. It's an absolute joke. This place is not worth $100 a night. We didn't try the breakfast we went out. We had planned to do dinner but the on-site restaurant was closed Sunday & Monday. There are no plug ins for cars. Limited plug ins In the room. It's in a very good location and honestly as far as hotels go it seems to be the nicest. If you dont find a decent Airbnb I would stay here but don't expect much. It's not that nice. The town is amazing. We did eat at Mikes Palace across the street and it was great.

I got a room hear because they accept dogs in the guest room. Never again since my dog sleeps well in the truck but I did not sleep well here. Every single step, creak, voice or groan is heard through the floor or the walls. Funny, with Covid you could have space the guests in alternate rooms and floors to give more space but alas it was not so. Next time the dog will enjoy her dreams in the truck and I will get some sleep elsewhere.

I was impressed with all the staff I met - obviously a very well managed hotel. I came just before Christmas during Covid-19 - obviously not a high demand time. Perfect excuse to be complacent. This team however was the opposite - they were exceptional in kind, customer focused professionalism. Kudos!

Great hotel right on the water. Nice rooms with great staff. However, for the price the views are not all that. There was an attached restaurant with views of the harbor with good food. The attached bar was loud and took away from the experience.

Room ok, but balcony unusable because bird poop all over balcony floor, railings and chairs. Hotel was unable to move us to another room of any kind. Unfortunate that we were unable to enjoy having a balcony!

My room was infested with shrews. I came back to the room as soon as I turned the lights out I felt it run over my foot. I turned on the lights and I saw at least three, one of which was actually in my bag. After reporting this to someone who worked there they changed my room, but within the 2 weeks of being there I saw nothing being done about them period. Also, I noticed multiple times of people smoking marijuana and cigarettes in the hotel and was never addressed either by staff. Even for Alaska this is just too much

I travel extensively for business and by far this has been my worst experience. First of all I had to change rooms due to a rodent infestation. I also had to throw away just purchased food items because the rodents decided to have a snack. I changed to an upstairs room which had no water pressure, was HOT, noisy, (due to having to sleep with the window open) and the door lock malfunctioned. The rooms and hallway reeked of stale alcohol, fish, mildew and marijuana. The whole place needs a severe remodel and cleaning!

Easy check in, courteous staff. Hotel is harborside and allows easy access to the marina and is a short walk to dining options and coffee. Plenty of parking. No air conditioning in the rooms and at night with the windows open the area was really noisy. Rooms were small and cramped. Mattresses need replaced, they are uncomfortable, no support and notable divets where many sleep nights have destroyed the support. TV did not work. Hotel room was pricey for what you get. Could definitely use a makeover. But not many lodging options in Valdez.

Best Western website is not accurate. This hotel has it's own website that is still a little misleading. Room smelled like mold, TV was snowy, hair in tub and on toilet. 3 days and trash was never emptied. Front desk blamed everything on Covid-19. . All restaurants in town, and 2 other hotels offer dine in. Breakfast offered was an apple, granola bar and a bottle of water.

While BW was the only real choice for a nice place to stay without breaking the bank, it could use some updating and better parking lot rules. Our second floor room was so hot with no way to regulate it except to open the window or use the fan provided in the room. Leaving the window open meant hearing the construction workers leave at 430-5am while having conversations, loud smelly diesels and backup alarms as they left for work. Hard to sleep through all that. The hallways smelled musty ( it's a sea town- I get it ) but mixed with old dirty carpet and cigarette smell, we feared our room would be also. It wasn't. The room smelled fine, was clean but the bathroom was ridiculously small. The door couldn't open all the way because if the curved shower curtain, nor would it stay closed without actually latching it closed because it was uneven and swung open, so no shower ventilation without having the door full open. It was open full or closed tight- no in between. Beds were surprisingly comfortable. The shower was inoperable but maintenance came and fixed that but we Had to wait a half hour for him to come and he reeked of cigarette smoke. No elevator which was a real downer when you have a bag full of camera gear to lug in and out each day.

Alicia was a joy to work with. Very positive and happy to help. From check in to check out, it was an easy process. She was extremely accommodating for myself and my colleague who ended up having to change rooms. She was still pleasant through the whole change. Great job Alicia!!

Friendly staff. When I checked in the front desk worker looked at the rate I was paying for the room and found me a better deal. The rooms were very clean, shower water pressure was amazing. Breakfast was great except they were out of bacon!

The room was fine. One night the wind was blowing and with the thermostat max the room was cold! Advised the front desk and was told it is Alaska! The house keeping was great. The restaurant was very good. The breakfast was simple but good. (Scrambled eggs with cheese, cheese omelet, with bacon or sausage, oatmeal, plus a few other items

From the moment the room was booked, to when my husband called to inquire about bringing our pet to stay with us, the moment we checked in, the service received in the restaurant and bar/lounge, to the time we checked out we were treated exceptionally well.

Stayed here one night before boarding a boat to cruise Prince William sound. Hotel was interesting. A little outdated but perhaps typical for the area. We were leaving super early so we didn't get a hot breakfast.

We were on a road trip from Fairbanks and stopped in Valdez. Waited awhile at the desk for someone to check us in. The room was quiet. We have had better breakfasts - hot food were lukewarm rather than hot

The Best Western in Valdez is an older hotel, but is located in an excellent, central location right near the Convention Center. The rooms are older and smaller but were clean. The wait staff in both the restaurant and lounge were overloaded and overworked and the BW needed to have more wait staff on line for the large Convention number of guests.

Situated near harbour and a 5 minute walk to nearest 2 restaurants, 15-20 minutes walk to museum and small grocery shop, subway etc. Room 217 had king size comfortable bed on the ground floor at front overlooked car park and a little noisy with people parking cars outside room. Would suggest a room at the rear of hotel would be quieter. TV, Coffee / Tea maker, iron and board, table and chairs, fridge, microwave, hairdryer, bath with shower over. Bit of a ‘mixed bag' review: we were part of a tour group so it was ideally placed for all things ‘Valdez', but there was a strange odour when we entered the room (although we soon got used to it). Complimentary breakfast both mornings: we partook of the ‘Continental' as, on the first morning my wife had the porridge albeit she couldn't get it out of pan, it being solid. A couple of comfortable nights were spent on the large beds but it wasn't until just before leaving that I confirmed to myself that the linen didn't seem to have been ‘fresh' - borne out by old blood splatters on the bottom sheet at the top right of the bed. My wife also noticed that a significant globule of chewing gum had been stuck on the bedside lamp! All in all, a bed for the night (x2) but hardly worth raving about ...

During our stay staff had headphones it and acted like they were annoyed with us for coming to them about questions and requests, kitchen breakfast was not very good, eggs were either mushy or rubbery, sausage both days were burnt at the edge or tasted undercooked, bacon was def. undercooked.. very very limited fresh fruit option. breakfast attendant had headphones in and did not bother to greet any guests or even make eye contact. Did not follow any of guest request prior to arrival. I requested to be near an exit closer to car parking lot. There was hair in the tub, but since the first meeting with staff was unplesent i did not disturb them again as i did not want to get attitude from staff. Girls during the morning shift and afternoon shift were very sweet. Overnight guy was rude and had headphones in and acted like it was disturbing him everytime i stopped to ask questions or request things like more soap, shampoo and conditioner. If i did not have points with best western the likelyhood i would choose this hotel again is not very likely. I would rather take my money elsewhere with better customer service. I am not saying you should love your job but at least take pride in what you do as your work is reflection of you.

We enjoyed our stay at the BW. It was clean, comfortable and quiet. They have a nice breakfast. The area has several hotels, which can be a bit pricey. This was perfect. Good price, clean and comfortable with a breakfast. It is tricky to find as it is off a main road and tucked in behind another hotel. But the location is perfect. Close to stores, restaurants, gas stations, etc. We enjoyed out stay here. AC worked without a ton of noise, which is a plus for me.

We had he best room in the hotel and it was small and had a urine odor in the bathroom. The toilet flushed like a sonic boom. The restaurant food was excellent and the location is close to all the restaurants and water cruises.

Very comfortable we stopped for 2 nights They were having trouble with the room door cards when we were there Good restaurant on the premises too- which we used on the 2nd evening Interesting to see Bald eagles on the top of tall poles in the harbour as the days catch of fish had just come in

I stayed at this property for three nights with my boyfriend. I had requested a cool quiet room. The room was very warm so we opened the window and utilized then fan in the closet. We felt a bit awkward with the window wide open as we were on the first floor. The second night we called the front desk about the temperature as it felt like the heat was on even though we had it off. The maintenance man was unavailable and was supposed to come the next day but it didn't seem like he did and the response we got when we called wasn't very comforting. I think at the very least another fan should have been offered. The room doors also slam so we heard people at all hours slamming doors. Other than that the hotel was in a good location and the breakfast was decent. The breakfast room was very small and crowded but you could sit in the lobby area and eat there. The informational booklet in the room had some great area ideas I just think they should have a bit more detail on how to get to the locations. I would not recommend this property if you need quiet.

Stayed a couple nights. Right on the water, Convenient to everything - tours, food, bars. Good restaurant inside and good bar. Comfortable bed and room. Quiet. Easy short drive to the ferry as well. Parking is adequate.

My stay was perfect. The only thing that I would suggest is updating the rooms & hall carpet if anything at all. As well as getting better speakers in the lounge. That would be my number one thing. Other than that it was perfect.

The room was spacious and had all the amenities you would expect. We could easily get to the boat tours and it was a good starting point to walk the town. The staff was very accommodating. The breakfast was very good; much better than we had anticipated.

Right on the harbour. Clean comfortable and friendly staff. Bed was comfortable but the pillows were not unfortunately.. Bathroom was small but it worked. Microwave and coffee maker. The free breakfast was good. Quite a bit of variety.

This Best Western is in an ideal location in Valdez, but it is definitely time for a refurbishment. We enjoy its close proximity to the charming harbour. However, the low water pressure, creaking floorboards from the room above, and bad pillow leave something to be desired. The room is dark, and the bathroom a tad small. Otherwise, reception service is very friendly. We also enjoy their complimentary breakfast, which offer bacon, suasage, bagel, eggs, donut, yogurt and apple etc. Nevertheless, this is basic and adequate accomodation, for resting.

My wife and I stayed here overnight during our Alaska trip. It is located right off the highway on the harbour. The exterior of the property is clean and is in good condition. There is ample parking right at the hotel. The staff were quite variable in their attitude, with some very friendly and polite, others not. The room was a surprise for several reasons. The interior of the room was smaller than we expected. The bathroom was designed for children, as the bathroom counter was extremely low, as was the toilet. My wife, at 5'2", was finding the counter and toilet a problem height wise. As 6'2", it was problematic for me!! The room was clean, and the beds comfortable. It was obvious to me that the rooms needed a complete upgrade decor wise, and a complete rethink as to how they are laid out. The internet was OK, but the room lacked adequate power outlets for the devices we needed to recharge. Breakfast was typical Best Western. I would stay here again, but I would look strongly at alternatives if they were available. Right now, there are not.

Services are limited as you move away from Anchorage. Several have never experienced this in other states but in Alaska you can not expect every request fulfilled or service found. Living in Alaska this was our first trip to the Copper River Valley and Valdez area. ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! These areas are some of the most beautiful in all of Alaska, but beware, No lodging has a/c on this side of the state. Unless you are camping this is a great property for the city and kept clean! Parking is a bit tight but where else can you sit on a bench out back of the property... inches from the water.

From the outside, the Valdez Best Western looks beautiful! Once inside, it's a different story. The rooms are very small and dated. The bathroom door wouldn't even shut completely unless you pulled hard. The people at the bar next door kept us up until after 2 when it closed. I expected much more from the Best Western hotel than the other local ones in the area and was willing to pay more for a safer, more enjoyable experience. Unfortunately, it was not enjoyable at all and I was very happy to leave in the morning. But I will say that their front counter personnel were extremely helpful with any questions.

We went to Valdez to take the Stan Stevens Charter. We had a wonderful trip. We stayed at the Best Western. I enjoyed my stay at the hotel and the Stan Stevens Charter. It was very clean and staff was wonderful and helpful.

An older hotel with average rooms. We only stayed for one night, but thought the cost of the room was a little high. Also keep in mind that this hotel does not have a lift, so depending on what floor you are on you will have to lug your suitcases up at least two flights of stairs. Had this been mentioned on their website we would have prepacked just what we needed for the one night stay in an overnight bag and left the luggage in the car. There is also a restaurant attached to the hotel, but it is independent, so you cannot had the bill to your room.

Great location for cruises and the hotel is clean, convenient, and a good location. The restaurant on property is well located but It never fit our schedule and closes at 9 pm. The rooms are nice and the shower is amazing!!! Just not a lot of hotel options and I do suggest this Best Western

After a long drive into Valdez we found the Best Western to be pretty basic accommodation. Was very hot in the room. No air conditioning and there was a bit of a heat wave. The rooms were clean with comforable beds and very obliging staff. Buffet breakie was included.

The room had a very strong smell of cleaning fluid. I opened windows and turned the fan on to blow it out to no avail. I had the front desk come in and she said she couldn't smell anything. I made coffee and opened up coffee packets to help with the smell. We left early the next morning because of the awful smell. They said they would credit me points because of the smell but they didn't do it.

A nice Best Western. Rooms are a bit older but adequate. A very nice lobby with 24 hour free tea and coffee available. The complimentary breakfast was not used as we find the American diet a bit too sweet for our European stomachs, (sorry). The restaurant was really nice for a drink at the end of the day sitting at the bar looking out onto the harbor.

This hotel was situated right on the waterfront and within walking distance of the restaurants in the area. It had a nice lobby and breakfast area. It had the usual Best Western fare. The girl who handled the breakfast did a great job. The room was clean and it was nice size. The girl at check in didn't know the answer to any question I asked or questions I heard other people asking. She was pleasant just not able to be helpful. Perhaps she just needed more training. We stayed here one night and we were pleased with the stay!

We stayed here for 2 nights in May. We had a room on the first floor close to the door to the parking lot. Easy parking. Our room was very hot. We had to leave the window open and the room was still too hot. Good location. The hotel is right on the water of the harbor. We walked along the water and looked at the boats. The breakfast was good. There was an egg and meat each morning. They had very good sausage gravy. Oatmeal. The breakfast room was small but there was plenty of room for the few people there at the time. The hotel had a restaurant but we did not eat there. Staff was friendly. Room had refrigerator and microwave. Small table with 2 chairs. Mints on the table. Our room looked out to the Coast Guard next door to we were looking at storage containers. Easy walking around town. Good hotel compared to others we saw in town.

Rooms are clean but small for a family of 4. There is not elevator, so carrying all of our gear and suitcases for the family up to a second floor room was not pleasant. There is no air conditioning and the rooms are hot! Your only option is to open the window, but with 20 hours of daylight in June that isn't a great option either when you need to sleep. The hotel is in a very convenient location. The restaurant had fabulous food, and staff were very friendly. The breakfast was far above average with eggs, omelets, French toast, biscuits and gravy, oatmeal, yogurt, and cereal.

This is a nicely located hotel on the harbor. For some reason, the hallway was always cold, and the rooms were very hot. We had to open the window and keep it open all night. Otherwise, the rooms were quite nice with a refrigerator to keep our beverages cold. Breakfast was hot and extensive.

This is a very nice motel and the location is superb, just a few steps from harbour where Stan Stephen William Sounds cruise docked. A very nice lobby with fireplace and 24 hours tea coffee. The staffs at reception are really nice and helpful. The complimentary hot breakfast is plus. You got eggs, sausage, and breads. The room is quite huge with very nice bed. The rooms provided with coffee machine. Wifi is free and fast. The bathroom is clean although not modern but running well. Outside the lobby has good views either the waterfront or the mountain with waterfalls. Highly recommended.

A friendly, smiling staff member met us at the counter and check-in was a breeze. The bed was extremely comfortable and the full breakfast buffet with eggs and bacon was great. Friendly staff and a comfortable, spacious room make this my favorite hotel when staying in Valdez!

The rooms were very clean and had such a nice view all of the staff was very nice, friendly & helpfull. Can't wait to visit again it was my 1st time visiting Alaska and look forward to my next trip there.

Best Western is one of the top two hotels in Valdez. Great location, great staff, best continental breakfast in the area. I've stayed here in the past and will stay here again in the future. Always a joy.

Didn't spend a whole lot of time here as we had gotten off our cruise from Whittier fairly late in the evening. I dropped off my luggage, went to grab a bite to eat and came back and went to sleep. Left early in the morning to check out the town and then came back to collect my luggage and leave. Room was a little small, the bed, desk and chair pretty much took up the whole room. Didn't notice a whole lot of noise. My key didn't work twice once after arriving and a second time the next morning so I had to go and get a replacement. Breakfast was okay but the breakfast room is a little small if it is busy.

We had a double room with harbour view and it was fine. yes the rooms are a bit outdated - but we had a good night sleep, beds very comfy and the WIFI was excellent (we could even stream). Breakfast is a bit chaotic - it is not enough space and we had to sit outside of the breakfast room. Desk staff was helpful and friendly.

We stayed here once years ago and would agree that this is not the place it used to be. It definitely needs some TLC and some updating. We stayed two nights in early July, luckily not when it was super hot, as this place has no AC. We kept our window open until we went to bed, and it worked out okay. We had reserved a king room and requested a quiet top floor room, which was thankfully what we got - a room on the top floor down the hall away from the stairs and facing away from the parking lot. The room was clean and basic - fine for two nights. The walls are thin - we had a quiet neighbor the first night and a loud snorer on the second. We could hear people in the hallways fairly easily, but since we were down toward the end of the hall, there wasn't as much traffic. Great that they had laundry, and the women at the desk were happy to give us change. Breakfast was basic and what we expected - good enough to get us going in the morning. Overall, okay hotel, helpful desk staff, and great location near the harbor and restaurants.

We booked one room for our family but it was quite small. It was not really warm outside but inside the room it felt hot (wouldn't want to be there when it's sunny and warm). The breakfast was rather chaotic as the space was limited. It would be a good idea to renovate and to install airconditioning.

I reserved this months in advance, and specificially reserved a *non-smoking* room. When I pre-checked in, I again specified non-smoking room. When I arrived after a long drive from Anchorage the "I could care less about you because I don't have to" girl at teh desk told me I have to take a smoking room. I said this was unacceptable, it's not what I reserved, I have a cold and sinus problems and it's not healthy for me to be in that environment. She did not apologize but said that's all she'll give me, and would charge me no matter what since it was late in the evening. But I had to sign something that said I will not smoke in the room. The room was beyond disgusting. I couldn't breathe, adn after our two nights of torture got sicker. We slept with the window open which helped a little bit, except it got really cold (but better than having to go to the hospital) and the thin things they call blankets weren't enough. Furthermore, right under us was a huge tour bus that started running the engine at 5am each morning so we could not sleep after that. Breakfast tasted like packaged styrofoam. The only good thing was that the tour boat office was in the same building. We went to the restaurant and the service was as bad as the lobby and as unpleasant. Long wait, but we did not have the option of bringing our food to the room since I was minimizing how much time I spent there.

The rooms were alright. The service was more or less acceptable. The people at the front desk and the hostess table in the restaurant were not really interested in dealing with us. I didn't like the paper plates and plastic cutlery at the breakfast buffett. I guess this is easy for the hotel but it creates so much garbage which is unnecessary.

Stayed here for one night. The room was fine the only negative is there is no air conditioning. They do have a fan in the room. They have a great hot breakfast which was all very good. All the help was very nice and friendly.

I stayed in this hotel on 27&28 July 2018. Location is good, but that's it. Women behing front desk don't care about customers and give very annoyed and boring impression. My room was an extension of the parking lot. Parked cars were app 1 meter away from my room. No airco in room so had to open the window (for which I had to call help) which made the parked cars even closer to my room. Room and hotel also show to be outdated. Please be smart and don't go there.

We arrived at noon, which is about 4 hours before the official check in time. The front desk was less than interested in dealing with us, as it was before the official 4pm check in time. I asked if we could leave a number and be called when the room was ready. We received no call. We didnt really think anything of it. When we returned around 3:40pm we were given the same song about check-in time, but this woman was more willing to check our room and she did find it ready. While most hotels allow you to check-in early, there are still a few out there that strictly follow the check-in time. We didn't really think anything of it until the next day, when we returned after 4pm and our room hadn't been serviced. Upon inquiring at the front desk they tried to tell us that our "do not disturb" sign must have been displayed. When we stated it was not, they then tried to tell is that room cleaning starts at 7:45am and we didn't leave our room early enough to get the room serviced (We left the room around 10am). Thinking back to check-in day, we couldn't understand why when checking in at 12pm the room wasn't ready, but the next day we left too late for servicing at 10am. The lack of consistency just seems like an excuse for them not to do any work. First, when checking in and second when not cleaning our room. Just beware of the games if you try to stay here.

Let's start out with the good things: location and internet are super. Why a bad rating? Hotel is smelly and in dire need of a (big) touch up, and some loving care. In addition, I have never seen breakfast from paper plates with plastic knifes in a big chain hotel. The main reason for the rating so are the ladies (or better two of them) at the front desk. Never experienced people less helpful and less friendly. Without them the rating might have gone to 2,5

This hotel was probably the worst I have been since ages. The rooms are outdated and out bathroom has a smell of moulds. The reception is not willing to help and when we made a complaint the reaction was rude. On top of this the breakfast is the worst I have ever experienced. To finish with something positive: the beds are good, which is a very small sothening of the pain. Conclusion: I would never go back here again.

We loved this hotel! The staff who greeted us at check in were some of the froendliest we experienced on our trip to Alaska!! We had a room at the end of the hotel with 2 windows. We could see the boats going out in the morning and coming back with their catch at the end of the day. We stayed 2 nights so we could go on the Lulu Belle Glacier Cruise. The boat docks right next to the hotel. Easy walk. There is a nice restaurantand baron the premises and I watched the Lulu Belle come in and dock as I sat at the bar with my wine! The hotel is clean and the housekeeping staff is very helpful. The breakfast was also excellet. If I ever get back to Valdwz, I will defi itely stay at Best Western

Stopped at this hotel on a cruise from Anchorage to Valdez. . The hotel is located conveniently to the scenic pier and restaurants across the road. Breakfast was GREat and a big thank you TO THE HOTEL for providing the same as a surprise. our room was on the ground floor but it was not inconvenient in terms of noise or anything.

This was hands down the worst name brand hotel we have ever stayed at in all our travels. The check-in staff were very unfriendly, unhelpful (talking to each other and on phones all the time) AND rude to us. There was an error with our travel agent booking (on the part of hotel, not travel agent). When I showed the girl what we paid for and were supposed to get she was so snarky and rude. When we asked where the elevator was for our 2nd floor room, she said there was no elevator...when we commented "wow, that's surprising" she literally said "Well you're the ones who wanted to change your room so deal with it. Not my problem". I was shocked (and did mention it to a manager). And that was just the start. The room itself SMELLED so bad that my husband and I gagged. We stayed 2 nights and the smell was there the whole time -- only good part was the window opened and because there was no A.C. there was a fan that we were able to put by the window to bring in some fresh air. I heard someone else complain about their room stinking as well. I knew not to say anything to the front desk because I didn't want another snotty remark. The hotel was extremely dirty, the Italian restaurant had NO ITALIAN food. When we went to eat there they were out of halibut (in Alaska!) and had NO pasta dishes .... we ended up leaving and going to a different restaurant. Having been in Alaska traveling on our own for 13 days, this was by far the worst hotel and the unfriendliest people in all that time. But, we still loved the town of Valdez and the LuLu Belle boat tour we took.

I stayed one night in July during a road trip. It was a bit pricey but the location was great and the rooms nice. It was a warm day so not having AC in the room about killed me. Luckily there was a fan and I left the window cracked to get the evening breeze. The free breakfast was nice before hitting the road again.

Typical B&W housing, large and clean room with two double beds, fridge, microwave, coffee/tea making facilities, free WIFI, TV set and quite small bathroom, but, all worked fine, water was running and no defect light bulbs. View from room on 1st floor (= actually the ground floor) was horrible...3 meter from a wall of the adjacent warehouse but we didn't spent much time in the room. Location was very good, next to the harbour and lots of places to eat within walking distance, (try Mike's Palace, was very good). Free coffee or tea in lobby. Saw a room with washing and drying machines, available for the guest, probably payable of course. Restaurant with marvelous harbor-view was nice, good food and an affordable wine selection, service was also OK. Breakfast was, again B&W style...poor :( Would I like coming back here again, probably yes.

I wanted to like this hotel, but it was very disappointing. First, while the hotel is on the harbor, your room won't overlook it. Mine overlooked an alley and some industrial building. Second, there was no hot water - for several days. Third, maid service was atrocious. Fourth, thin walls. Won't ever stay here again.

Great hotel, we didn't too good a view. The room was good and the bed was comfortable. The town was really nice and quaint. Friendly rabbits. Try the museum too. Not enough hot water for two showers !!

We stayed here 22 to 24 May. Location of the hotel is excellent and rooms are very clean, on the water front but the view from your room depends which room is allotted to you. It could be looking over a parked car in front of your window. Maintenance is poor. Gym is not available and whirlpool is not working. Restaurant is under renovation and not available. Hot water was not available. Hotel staff tend to be a bit rude. When we didn't get hot water for shower,the staff said we needed to wait as more gusts were using it. As if with less than 50% occupancy, all guests had decided to shower at the same time. When we didn;t get hot water even after 45 minutes and complained, staff was a bit rude instead of accepting deficiency in service. Non availability of hot water continued till next day. Hotel is certainly overpriced, not value for money.

This is an awe full hotel. Their remodeling right in the middle of tourist season. Really! Like you should do that in the winter when no one is here. Carpet, walls, floors and rooms are all dirty. One day we were here the hot water went out. The girl at the desk just looked at me and said oh well. The young girls that checked us in were just looking at their phones and giggling instead of giving us their full attention. The only thing and I mean only thing is the hotel in on the water. The people who manage this place should be fired. Come on put a little money back into the place. Awful!!!!

The hotel itself was clean and nice. The toilet backed up on day one, before I even used it and there was no hot water on day two. The staff was friendly but, not overly helpful especially with the hot water situation. They simply said it was

Probably the largest hotel in Valdez, a tad older building, but still very clean, very busy place. Staff are very friendly, rooms are good, roomy, bathrooms are good sized. There is a nice bar and restaurant attached to the hotel. We would stay here again.

Stayed for 2 nights. We walked around town or sat and watched the harbor. Breakfast was nice, fresh fruit nce touch. Small bathroom but cleaned each day. Did whale tour but it was overcast, still interesting. Would stay here again.

We were quite comfortable staying at the Best Western in Valdez. The bed was clean and comfortable. An adequate breakfast was provided. The staff were very friendly and helpful to us. We enjoyed our overnight stay at Best Western.

The hotel is conveniently located right at the harbor where most of the tours start. Rooms and common areas are clean. The breakfast is ok and the restaurant on site is really good. Centrally located in town so you can easily walk most anywhere. Service at the hotel and restaurant were friendly and very efficient. We've stayed here a few times and will definitely stay again. Rooms 200, 201 and 203 have a partial water view. You can watch otters and other sealife swim by occasional.

A very nice room. Bath room was a little small but still good enough. It was so nice to get up and go down for my breakfast and watch otters swim around close by while I finished my coffee. Good places to eat and shop close by.

Good accommodations. The staff at the front desk was very helpful and the room was clean and adequate. Overall, the motel was quite and we got a good night's sleep. We did not eat breakfast here, so cannot comment about it.

Nice breakfast. comfortable bed. friendly staff. First night (1/21)room at 76 degrees with the heat off, window open 2 inches outside temp mid teens, and bath fan running. They let me have a different room for the rest of the week but the hot water for the shower would only last about three minutes. Complained twice but problem persisted. Valdez has very cold water! The maintenance guy came and confirmed the water was cold but seemed clueless. I can shower fast but not fast enough.

Very nice place to stay ,staff is excellent. Breakfast bar was handy and shuttle to airport convenient and quick.Any warm place in valdez is a gift, winters can be harsh. I would stay here again and recommend it to all

love the location by the harbor. Staff friendly,helpful and knowledgable about their town. Was here on a winter visit snowmobiling .May need to expand their parking lot a bit as hard for trucks towing small trailers to park .

This was an good Best Western and would stay here again if ever in Valdez. We ended up eating in the restaurant at the hotel and it was also good. The breakfast in the morning was a good complimentary breakfast.

Front desk staff was really nice. Room was super super dark (like 20 watt bulbs :) but clean. Had that odd Alaskan smell (Must or mold) but wasn't bad. Several places Ive been up here have had it. Keep in mind you are in freezing cold AK (I was here in November) and everyone has remote starts for their truck, so you are going to here cars/trucks (sometimes big diesels) start up at random hours of the night. It might way you up if you are light sleeper. Free breakfast was OK. Again staff was nice.

I have stayed at many Best Westerns in the U.S. and this one was just average. The staff at the front desk were very nice and helpful. The room was a standard room, clean, and beds were comfortable. It says that the place has laundry, but there were 2 coin washers that were always taken. We ended up going to the public laundromat. Also we were not impressed with the breakfast-- full of carbs and was lacking vegetables.

The Valdez, Alaska, hotel is one of the best if not the best hotel I have ever stayed at. The staff, room, breakfast, were the best. The trip was made in the winter in Alaska and regardless of the temperatures, everything was absolutely the best.

I was in town on an overnight for a family emergency and Best Western was the only hotel open in November which was a huge plus. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. I checked in and went to take care of the work I came to town for. I returned long after midnight when my work was finished, exhausted and ready for a hours sleep. To my dismay the bed had hair and dirt in when I pulled back the comforter. I slept dressed on top the bedding for my short nap and left to finish my work in the morning. The breakfast was a good breakfast and was much better than many three star hotels include with their rooms. If the bed hadn't of been filthy I would have had a very pleasant experience at the Harbor Inn.

Although the picture of the room on the website was not even CLOSE to the one I got it was good hotel. The room was clean and spacious. The bed was comfortable. Staff was friendly. The lounge was busy and fun. Ad the breakfast was decent. Eggs, sausage, French toast, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, breads etc.

The room was very comfortable and the breakfast was hot with lots of selections. The view from our room was breathtaking. The restaurant was excellent. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit to Valdez.

This is the nicest hotel in the area. Rooms were clean and the staff is super nice. No air conditioner in the room but its not needed. It just makes for a very quiet room without the normal white noise that masks another adjacent room noise.

Exactly what you need when stopping in Valdez, a clean, quiet place for sleep. The staff was friendly, the room was spacious and clean, and the bustle of the other guests didn't interfere with my rest.

I got exactly what I wanted: clean, well-maintained, quiet and has an associated restaurant which is by far the best restaurant in town. Check-in and check-out was quick and trouble free. Breakfast was basic but the food was fresh and plentiful.

the room is large, the king bed was great, the view is great, the noise from other rooms is very quite. the breakfast is great, check out and in is so easy. 200 letters is a lot to type when the stay is awesome

The hotel feels more like a lodge and is clean, comfortable, and well located in Valdez, close to the harbor, restaurants, and the main road in and out of Valdez. The staff are friendly, professional and extremely helpful. I can easily recommend a stay at this hotel.

My son and I spent two nights here. I gave it an average rating as there were several things that weren't working primarily in the bathroom. The heat lamp did not work and the hot water faucet in shower was very tempermental! One thing I will now start to mention in reviews is the toilet height which is of interest to us older travelers. This one is of handicap height. The room was a double and there wasn't a whole lot of extra room. I also had asked for a harbor view. It was there if you craned your neck. It was a quiet room.

Valdez is an expensive town so the hotel was appropriately priced for the area. We were visiting family and found the hotel to be very convenient to everything. The breakfast is basic but had sufficient variety. The hotel room was very basic and dated but was clean and satisfied our needs well. It also has guest laundry facilities which always comes in handy when the weather is unpredictable. We had room 202 which is on the second floor (no elevators) and it looked out at the canal which was very relaxing. We got to see Salmon jumping and a sea otter swimming around. The views around Valdez is spectacular.

This place has a great location, right on the water, very close to the Ferry Terminal. There are no elevators, so beware of that. We paid more for a corner room, with a water and mountain view. The room was large, but very dated. The floors squeaked while walking, and the people above us walked a bunch! We were also next to an exterior stairwell with a very heavy and loud door. I thought it was over priced, and would not stay there if I went back.

I was very torn on whether to give this hotel 3 or 4 stars. I stayed 2 nights at this hotel as part of a tour. The hotel is older and unfortunately looks it. With a simple uplift to the rooms, it would make a huge difference. The hotel had a dated brown comforter - change them out for the white sheets clean look and things would improve. Being an older hotel, the floors squeak. That was fine, it gave it charm. There is no elevator, so make sure if there are any health issues they know (or the tour group you're booking thru) knows about it in advance. Breakfast was okay - a simple buffet with some hot dishes and cereal. A huge plus is the location. That can't be beat. It's right next to the harbor where many tours leave from. Perfect downtown location near restaurants. Not a far walk from the Valdez Museum as well.

If you can't get a room on the 2nd floor, flee. Front desk staff were great, the room is fine, the beds are comfortable but if you can't get any sleep because the floors squeek and the walls are thin, none of that matters. I live in downtown San Francisco, I am used to lots of noise but the people in the room above have been up since 5:00, they've found the squeekiest spot in the floor and they're having a dance party in that exact spot. It's now 6:40 and it's still going on. I know they can hear it (unless they're deaf) because the floor in this room squeeks and I can hear it when I walk across the floor. The hotel should supply earplugs when you check in if they're putting you on the first floor.

Was right next to harbor and across the street from all the best restaurants! Was next door to all cruises and kayaks for day trips. We saw a harbor seal right outside our window. What a great surprise. Hotel staff were very friendly and professional. Room was large, water pressure of shower excellent! Clean room! Cleaning staff super friendly! Highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Valdez!

This was one of the worst Best Westerns I have ever stayed at. We were on the second floor. We had to carry luggage up the stairs because there was no elevator. No one offered to help. When we got to the desk to check in the receptionist was on the phone talking, sounded like a personal call, and she did not get in a hurry to get off the phone. She was not friendly at all. The hotel smelled old. For the price we paid, it was terrible. I will not stay there again.

This is an older but well maintained property. It is definitely not a luxury stay. On the other hand, it is located just beside the boat harbor. From many rooms you can look out onto the activity going to and fro in the harbor. From the plaza outside the hotel, I could see 13 glaciers. There is no comparable property in Valdez.

This is a pleasant lowrise modern hotel right on the Small Boat Harbor in Valdez. This is a really delightful location, packed with fishing boats of every description, anglers pulling salmon right out of the harbor, tame rabbits wandering around, all surrounded by spectacular mountains. The hotel rooms are smallish (at least for us two couples in one room) but quite comfortable and there's good free wi-fi. A standard self-serve breakfast is complimentary, and there is a good restaurant (Roma Italian Kitchen) on site that's open every evening. The staff were very helpful.

Right on the harbor. Close to the ferry terminal, restaurants, bars and docks. Very pleasant room. We paid a bit extra and got a nice corner room with a harbor view. Worth it - sea breezes flowing through were heavenly! Nice restaurant on premises. Better than average hotel complimentary breakfast. (Cold options available early for guest departing on the ferry.)

This hotel is a little bit aged and there is a light smell in the room. But the altitude and service of hotel staffs are perfect, which improves our stay experience a lot. The breakfast is good, especially in a small town. The restaurant of hotel ROMA is always recommended by travelers, but the waiting time there is a little bit long.

We were there on a Saturday night, with windows facing the parking lot. We could hear the noise coming from their restaurant. The hotel was being remodeled, but our room was really "tired". A small older bathroom and no AC, just a revolving portable fan. We did not eat breakfast the next morning at the Best Western, but found another place to eat.

The hotel fit the town and experience! The cruise boat was just out the back door, and the restaurant is the best in Valdez. The breakfast is above average for B&B hotels. The French toast was real bread, not a stamped-out frozen product, and the bacon was high quality

The first impression of this hotel wasn't so good - it looked old and tired and the room did not smell good. But after staying there for 2 nights (and opening a window) it is actually much better. The room was clean and comfortable and it has great location.

Sitting right on the stunningly beautiful harbor in Valdez, the Best Western Valdez Harbor Inn has the finest location in Valdez. You can park your car and then forget about it for a couple of days while you explore this charming town and Prince William Sound. The hotel is old but well built. Sensitive to sound, during my 3 nights there - I never heard noise from another room. The hotel is clean, and the staff is professional, accommodating, and friendly. Special thanks to front desk staff Christie and Michelle for making myself and my husband feel so welcome.

Very impressive and fun events as the entire community celebrated the the gold rush that founded Valdez over a hundred years ago. The Best Western was a wonderful place to stay. Very centrally located. Clean. Good selection for breakfast. Friendly & helpful staff.

Nice hotel right at the harbor. Easy walk to every where in town. Clean room with comfortable bed. Seems to be best in town. Ample parking, courteous and helpful front desk. Attentive room cleaning staff.

Bed was very comfortable, black out curtains good. Room was noisy and our view was only of dumpsters and storage bins; not particularly appealing! Restaurant was open late and was delicious, but service was very slow, and our server wasn't very attentive - didn't refill my water, didn't stop to check on us.

Clean and comfortable. Our room had a neat view of the harbor. They oughta clean or replace the carpet that leads up the stairs, but that didn't detract from a nice stay. The breakfast service starts at 6am, which cuts it Clyde if you're taking the ferry. But when we were there, the cold part of the breakfast (drinks, cereal, breads etc) were available at 530am, so it worked out well for us. A good stay, and we'd gladly go back.

First, this is a good, clean hotel with a very friendly staff. Secondly, the hotel was exactly as advertised and expected. The breakfast was well done for this level of hotel, with the oatmeal options better than average. For these reasons, it is a three. I would gladly stay at this property again. The location was on the water and the fish cleaning area is within walking distance of the hotel.

Best Western in Kodiak has the best breakfast. The bar/restaurant upstairs Halibut is off the hook good. Great beers on tap and I have never had a flat beer there. If its raining out and need a place to stay warm with a good view the Best Western bar is a place to chill.

The hotel was okay- there was nothing that made the place stand out. The restaurant served a lot of fish and the lobby often was smelly from the restaurant. Staff was always friendly. There are not a lot of choices in the town...I would stay here again.

Room was clean, standard hotel room, nothing fancy. Could tell it was just a little older, not as nice as some of the other Best Westerns we stayed at while in Alaska. Room had a weird smell to it though, not exactly a clean, welcoming smell. Ok stay for one night, not many other options in the area. Skipped breakfast and ate in town (we were just tired of the standard hotel options). Overall okay room and an okay stay.

We enjoyed this hotel very much, our room was large with everything you need for a nice stay. The staff was friendly and helpful. The morning breakfast was a pleasant surprise with all your hot or cold breakfast favorites . The location is perfect for walking around visiting all the shops and the harbor.

We selected this hotel because of the location in the harbor and nearby Alaskan ferry. Checkin and out was easy, free wifi worked well. We left before the breakfast was being served. It was more costly than most Best Westerns but then it was Alaska. There was a pay washer and dryer but it was being used. Our room got very hot and it was June so we opened the window for the night. It was a bit noisy but not bad. TV service also worked well.

The hotel is noisy, dirty, very hot, despite being in Alaska, and very small room, I would not recommend this hotel to stay in Valdez, there are other options. There is a problem with the rooms on the ground floor the cars park against your window, it is very annoying and noisy

This is a gorgeous little town. Whole town is surrounded by mountains. Lots of water falls. Were hoping to see bears, but salmon run wasn't fully in yet. Locals said guaranteed to see them when salmon run. Hotel was very nice. Looks Newly remodeled. Staff very friendly and helpful. Large breakfast with lots of options.

Our first hotel stay in Alaska, but the lower 48 states seem to be more updated. The hotel was very clean, and not noises , breakfast was one of the better hotel breakfasts. Staff was very polite and understanding of exhausted travelers. There is no elevator which was okay when we booked the room 8 months before packing. The ladies at the desk were able to switch our room from a mint. View upstairs to an alley view on the main floor that had guests walking right past our bedroom window. The is no air conditioning, so the window is open all the time for air.

The is is a very expensive poorly built and managed hotel. You can hear everything from everything around your room. VERY NOISY. The room was clean. The desk clerk was surely and not the greeting you would expect. There was no parking anywhere in the lot or in the overflow her response when I ask her what to do, was to shrug her shoulders. Security sucked, outside doors were blocked or locked open. This place is 200 per night and should be better run and managed. Shouldn't it?

We stayed in this hotel for one night on our 21 day trip to Alaska. I had read reviews about the rooms being dirty and I should disagree. The rooms are clean and well organized. The point is that the hotel looks quite old and it's lacking any freshness or brightness. It definitely needs some renovations. I'd still recommend staying there because of their great location. In the evening we strolled along the harbor and ate in one of the numerous restaurants; in the morning we got our coffee and drank it looking at a gorgeous harbor and mountain view just two steps from the door.

I had an unexpected three day weekend and decided to take a quick trip down to Valdez, Alaska. I made a call to Best Western to book a reservation, they had a room available and were very quick and efficient booking my room along with ensuring I received my Best Western Rewards. Upon arrival, the check in was quick, the representatives at the desk were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable with a great view of the Small Boat Harbor and the mountains that surround Valdez. Housekeeping made sure the room was kept stocked with towels, soap, shampoo, etc.. Very happy with my stay, as always. I have been staying at this Best Western annually for the last 12 years, and will continue to take advantage of their hospitality for as long as I make trips to Valdez.

Clean and quiet rooms. Close to harbour and restaurants . Close to ferry . Good restaurant . Good food and friendly service at restaurant. Complimentary breakfast. Close to boat excursions departure. Service at front desk mediocre.

The check in process was so easy and the clerk enjoyed her job. That was very refreshing in today's world. The room was clean and fresh. Parking is an issue here- it's a big hotel and it was full so we had to park off site. Worried that it wasn't safe. Not too inconvienent but prefer to park near hotel room. They do have a busy loud restaurant on site inside the hotel with expensive meals, not included. For the price of this hotel, it should include breakfast. There are not many local options for dining.

Decided to take a scenic side trip down the Richardson Highway to Valdez and were not disappointed. Glaciers, mountains, & waterfalls! Had made advanced reservations at the Best Western and it was fine for our needs. They were doing some updating/remodeling. Our room was normal/fine. Their breakfast was fine. Front desk staff assisted us with several digital tasks involving the Business Center and we were able to get done what needed to be done. Thanks. We did some laundry and that was helpful. Good location and views.

Friendly welcome on arrival, no lift but stairs not too difficult. Room satisfactory with king bed, fridge and microwave and coffee maker. Well situated by the docks for restaurants and plenty of opportunity to book trips in the area. There are seals in the bay and bears to be seen if you are lucky!

Clean rooms, nice bed, hot breakfast (the best of all the southcentral AK Best Westerns in my opinion), close proximity to downtown Valdez and the water front. Plus, the adjoining restaurant is the place to be. As far as night life goes in Valdez, the Harbor View restaurant is it. I love this place.

typical best western. not a good value for the money. I would have stayed at a Marriot had one been available. choices in Valdez are limited. this is likely the best option for the area. the exterior doors are not secure and people come and go all hours. people were filling coolers from the ice machine at 4 ;30 am

Stayed here because we'd come to Valdez to do the glacier and whale watching trip. Probably the best locally although that's not saying a great deal. Our agent had only booked us a standard room and no upgrade was available on arrival. The room was small but adequate but the beds were way to soft for our taste. Free breakfast was pretty good, although shame about the paper plates and plastic cutlery. Had a restaurant and lovely bar which seemed popular with both guests and locals. It is what it is and is perfectly acceptable when visiting Valdez.

We paid $200/night for a dirty room, with a parking lot view. (This is the best view at Valdez Harbor Inn.). The "complimentary'' breakfast offers fare similar to other Alaska venues -- but Valdez Harbor Inn's offering was mostly inedible. I'm not sure the sausage links ever saw a microwave. Overall, we had a $69/night experience -- and yes, that is acknowledging pricing during Alaska's tourist season and the lack of hotel competition in Valdez. This noted, we truly enjoyed our car ferry trip to Valdez, as well as the highway drive from Valdez to McCarthy. Given the benefit of hindsight, we would probably take a nap in the car rather than paying/endorsing this business.

I love that there is free breakfast included, but be prepared for all the hotel staff to come in and eat alongside you. This may or may not make you uncomfortable (I see it as the staff trying to get you out of there since breakfast closes at 10). Having a place to work out is a convenience for me as well. Views are beautiful, but you'll get that anywhere you go in town.

Only issue was with room heat. Could not get the room to a comfortable cooler level as there is no room air exchange. There is a window but no way to force air into the room or exchange room air with the cooler outside air.

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We stayed in what they call their oversize room, which has a king bed, very comfy, a couch. 2 desks, 2 large wardrobes, a small balcony and the room itself huge. We had a lovely view of the mountains which was nice. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the complimentary breakfast plentiful and nice. Overall a very nice hotel to stay.

Our room had a view of the harbour and though not large, it was comfortable (beds and room temperature) and clean. Breakfast was very tasty and the staff was very friendly. Located close to restaurants and next to the Stan Stevens cruise dock.

I stayed for four nights, the fist night I found the room had a bit of an odor, but over all I found my room to be nice and clean. I liked having the having the microwave a and mini fridge, and at the end of a work day it was nice to have a nice bed to sleep in. I really liked the breakfast options. Over all I enjoyed my stay and would recommend it to my friends.

Its a great place to stay and i always feel comfortable and relaxed. i stay there twice a year and look forward to my stay and the breakfast is a really nice touch. i plan on staying there in the future and would recommend it to others.

This is the best hotel option in Valdez if you looking for a fast efficen and local hotel option. The location is great and they have free breakfast. The rooms are decent however the hotel is a little weathered but again for Alaska standard it is good. Only better option in my opinion would be a moterhome or a liveaboard boat.... but if you had either of those you probably aren't reading this review. Easy parking, restaurant/bar attached, landry machines available but people lineup for them. Staff is very nice.

The hotel is in a beautiful setting but it's really showing it's age. Cheap coffee maker and terrible coffee. Housekeeping neglected my rooms 2 days in a row. The carpet is dirty and decor is beyond boring. Restaurant however is good.

Beautiful location. Rating should be 2* but TripAdvisor does not publish anything less than 3. Facility in need of renovation carpet is musty. The blanket is polyester green from the 80s. Biggest problem ppl running in the hallway from room to room slamming doors after 10P while partying.

Great location! Right on the water front in valdez. Friendly staff! Breakfast included and good. Good restaurant and good for our low budget ($7 pizza) and nice bar to hang out in. Laundry room was a big bonus! Front desk were easy going about us changing our reservation twice. I'll be back!

This staff at this Best Western was fabulous from the moment we made our reservation until the moment we checked out. The room was very comfortable and the bed was excellent! The continental breakfast as expansive with many fresh items as well as the usual cereal and toast options. The bar and restaurant were lively, though with so many people there was a wait and service was a bit slower than it may be in the winter. And the location at the waterfront was terrific - we could walk to most places.

Everything was friendly and smooth from start to finish. Highly recommend this establishment if you're going to be staying in Valdez for any reason. The restaurant has very good food and prompt/professional staff as well. They stayed open beyond normal hours to make sure that we were fed after our work day ended. 11 on a scale from 1-10!

The Harbor Inn is a very nice. Beds are comfortable, rooms are clean, good breakfast, delicious restaurant with an incredible view. The best part of our stay was the hotel and restaurant staff. Exceptional service in every area. I have to give a special thank you to the service staff and Ashley at the front desk. A few hours after we checked out she called to let me know that we had left some items in a drawer in our room. I really appreciate the honesty and integrity of the hotel staff in making an effort to return the items. It's great to know that Best Western Harbor Inn employees have those values. We'll definitely stay with you on our next trip to Valdez. Thank you!

The room are clean but a little small. There is a wood stove in the lobby with coffee and tea. We have a good view on the mountain. The hotel is next to the sea. There is a restaurant in the hotel. So, you don't need to go outside to eat.

Stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. The location is great right on the harbor. The scenery in the area is amazing. The rooms are large, clean, and comfortable. We were there during record heat and could have used air conditioning which our room did not have. Otherwise it was a very nice stay.

Situated right on the harbour, it was clean and very comfy. Breakfast was ok...didn't cater for coeliacs at all, but made do.Quiet town so not a great deal of accomodation available so we were lucky to get in here. All on one and two levels, we stayed on the bottom so easy to get to rooms and had little rabbits running round the gardens ( the locals think someone let the loose years ago and they just survive there. Easy walk ( 5 min) to the cafes and tours next to the harbour and a 10 min walk into the other parts of town.Not a massive choice of options food wise but the scenery here makes up for it...surrounded by glaciers everywhere you look...

We did a loop through Alaska and passed through Valdez in mid-October. Many places and activities shut down so didn't have much to do. Best Western was clean and restaurant (separate review) was good.

Hotel is right on the harbor. Valdez is a sleep little town. Restaurant is good and locals do eat there too so it is a good option. Rooms are very clean and relatively modern. Wifi was acceptable. Simple buffet breakfast was included.

The hotel is conveniently located, has a great breakfast included and nice clean rooms and friendly staff. I have stayed here every year for 10 years and keep coming back. I plan on using the Best Western every time i visit Valdez

Call the hotel directly for pricing especially if you are an Alaska resident. Hotel is right on the harbor next to Stan Stephens cruises. Valdez is not big but there are a few places to choose from and this one seems the most modern and clean. Attached restaurant is good and service is friendly. Rooms are very clean and modern. Wifi is acceptable with 5Mbps down and 2 Mbps up. Valdez is rural and the views are great. Breakfast is included with all rates and served from 6am to 10am. Plenty of food buffet style. Bathroom was very clean and also modern with nice clean and plentifully stocked towels and heat lamp. If you are a visitor in the winter follow parking signs and stay a minimum of 6ft from the building. This is the snow capital of Alaska and falling snow chunks off the roof will crush your car. Seriously. There is a ferry that goes to Whittier that only takes 3 hours and several other destinations. Hotel is quite and the lobby and breakfast area are nicely decorated.

this was the best vacation ever. and not far from family members and the fishing areas. People all over where friendly and wonderful to talk with. Everyone knows who you are after a few times of buying in the stores.

Spent 2 nights at the Best Western. Maid did not clean the room for the first night. When I stay at a hotel especially for more than 1 night, I expect to come back to a clean room with a clean bathroom. Coming back to an unclean room with no fresh towels and trash not emptied was very annoying. The only good thing I liked about the hotel was the complimentary breakfast was good.

Stayed two nights. Hotel was as good, as expected from previous reviews. Very convenient for everything in Valdez and for the ferry to Whittier. Room was slightly too warm, so opened window. Breakfast was quite good, all the usual pre-packed yoghurt, cereals, containers of fruit etc., also cooked food. They opened breakfast early on the morning we were catching the ferry. Ate one evening meal in the hotel which was OK but a bit disappointing. The other evening we dined at The Totem Pole restaurant where the food was good and we were grateful the next day that my husband's camera which he'd left on the chair back had been handed in.

Did not stay in this hotel but had a drink in the hotel bar (i think it ios called the wheelhouse lounge) Place was buzzing with a good mix of locals and tourists. Lovely views of the harbour from the bar. Good selection of beers and wine and staff very friendly. Would recommend this bar for a drink if staying in town

On the harbor and able to watch all the boats come and go! Walking distance to most everything. No air conditioning but was able to open window and had a fan in the room. Breakfast was included and was very good with many options that changed daily! Washer and dryer on site and front desk sells washing powder for $1.00. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean! Easy checkin and out!

other then a blip in the restaurant for one of our group our stay was fantastic. everyone was friendly and helpful. IMO they went well out of their way to help us in any way and never acted like we were a bother. the breakfast, which is included is really good and well maintained.

clean hotel, convenient location, moderately friendly staff, we were there on an arranged tour, I doubt I would stay there otherwise, it was just a quick in and out so I do not know all of what it had to offer. It was clean which was a priary concern for uys.

We were with a tour group of about 40 people. Some had not-so-ok rooms (musty, smelly.) Our room was a room with king bed on the second (top) floor and was about 80* when we opened the door. It cooled quickly with sea breeze and table top fan. It was clean, the bed was comfy, no complaints about our stay here.

The check in experience here is less than friendly. The woman at the desk when I checked in acted like she would rather be anywhere else, and the staff was just kind of hanging around talking in crude terms (and yes, swearing) about something. Not really what I expect. After we checked in, the staff changed over, and the people at the desk were much friendlier and more helpful. I stayed there because it is a name that I recognize, but it doesn't live up to the other Best Westerns that I have stayed at- even others in AK.

This hotel is located in a superb place to explore Valdez. Park the vehicle and walk to the sites. Rooms are clean and comfortable. I notified them in advance that we were celebrating my husband's birthday and got a room with a spa. It was a nice treat after spending the day traveling!

Nice hotel with a great location on the harbor. Lounge looks over the harbor with the mountains in the background. Julie at the lounge was especially helpful and she makes an awesome Bloody Mary. Included free breakfast was good. The guest self serve laundry machines worked very good. We asked for a cot and it was delivered promptly. Only con is it was very warm outside when we were there and the room was hot and stuffy. We opened the windows which helped a little bit. They might have to consider installing air conditioning. Also, a big problem was no exhaust fan in the bathroom, which combined with no air circulation added to the problem.

Excellent location, right next to harbor, One could easily walk to the waterfront. Big, clean room...but, view of the back alley. Food service for dinner was okay, however, service in the bar was spotty at best. We had a waiter from the adjoining dining room take our order eventually and the bartender came from behind the bar to take our drink order. There were two separate bills, too! Food was ok, drinks were excellent! I must say the dining room was packed and the overflow filled the bar area. View of the the harbor from the bar was stunning!

Valdez is one of my favorite places to visit in the world and the Best Western makes the experience even more enjoyable. Best of all for me is that they have a room with a roll in shower which is a requirement for my handicapped wife. Breakfast is very good and the staff will cheerfully help with any request. They do have a sign up in the lobby advising guests of their slow internet speed but suggest that Valdez has other virtues to make up for that issue. I would note that rooms had no A/C which is not usually a big deal. After all, this is Alaska. However we visited during a time of near record high temperatures and we did miss it a little but overall, you can't go wrong staying here

We took the ferry over from Whittier and arrived at 9:30 pm. The hotel is close to the ferry. Our hotel room was waiting and while small, it was clean, comfortable and quiet. The front desk staff was efficient. This hotel has a breakfast buffet that is minimal but sufficient. There is a nice coin laundry facility on the first floor - no elevators so keep that in mind if you don't like doing stairs. The location of the hotel is what was nice for us. We wanted to explore a little bit in the morning. The visitor center, museums and some restaurants were in easy walking distance from the hotel. The Alaskan Richardson Highway is only a couple of blocks away. Definitely the place to stay in Valdez.

The hotel is located right on the harbour at Valdez so you enjoy the activity in the port area. The rooms and bathrooms are fine as is the technology (T V and wifi). Breakfast is basic but still gets you off and running. Possibly let down by the dining area being more like a cafeteria. If I was visiting Valdez again, would I stop here, possibly.

I traveled with my wife and 2 children and they also liked this place. Wifi worked pretty well. Breakfast was very nice with good variety. Only problem here are the number of sites available to sit down. Location of this hotel is perfect, just in the middle of the town in front of the harbor. Staff were also very kind I would repeat

Probably the worst Best Western I have ever stayed in. Room was stuffy and uncomfortable, even with the windows open and the outside temp's in the 50's. The plastic fan's provided gave the accommodations the feel of a badly maintained youth hostel. Rundown interior, mediocre breakfast. On the plus side, the front desk staff were very helpful and kind.

Great location if you are catching the ferry. It is an easy walk. The hotel is older but most accommodations in Valdez are very simple so it is very nice relative to the other places in town. The restaurant has a beautiful view and the staff was very friendly. It was August and the rooms were quite warm.

We stayed here in a standard twin bed room which was comfortable enough in itself but we had a poor outlook. The heating appeared to be switched off, but had it been on it looked as though the thermostat was broken. The restaurant seemed very popular and we enjoyed our evening meal. We recommend booking a table as the restaurant is quite small given the size of the hotel. The hotel offers a complimentary continental breakfast. There was not a lot of choice; the serving area was very cramped and the seating arrangements were totally inadequate. All the staff we encountered were pleasant and very helpful. We were able to leave our car in the hotel car park while we spent a full day on a Glacier Cruise, which departs from next to the hotel. All in all this hotel merits 3.5 rather than 4 stars.

Two adults stayed for one night. As far as I could tell, this is the only National-brand hotel in town. We reserved several months in advance to guarantee a room and get a good rate. We appreciate that the hotel did not require prepayment (as some do). The room we requested was ready and waiting on arrival; check-in was quick and there were no issues. The hotel location is great; it's right next to the harbor and walking distance to restaurants, stores and Dock Point Park. It's not a resort or luxury property - it's an older hotel and a bit worn-looking, but the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We appreciated the black-out drapes. There's no A/C and the room was quite warm when we arrived in spite of cool, rainy weather. We opened the window and turned on the portable electric fan that was provided and that helped. We had requested a wheelchair accessible room. The ramp to the exterior door was too steep (assistance necessary) and the room spacing was tight, just exactly enough room to maneuver around the bed. The bathroom had a roll-in shower stall, but the floor tile and drain had not been installed correctly. Instead of sloping toward the drain, the floor sloped away so that water ran out of the shower and flooded the bathroom. We had to make a "dam" with rolled up towels. I suggested to the desk staff that the addition of a flexible rubber shower dam would improve the situation and they seemed concerned and receptive. We used the in-room wifi and it worked fine. The room also contained a refrigerator and small microwave. The free breakfast has a good selection including some healthy choices like fruit, oatmeal and yogurt, but the dining area is small requiring some additional seating in the lobby. This hotel is in a scenic, convenient location and met our needs for one night. The town is populated with feral rabbits and we spotted several on the hotel lawn. We enjoyed walking along the harbor and watching the fishermen bringing in their catch, and we saw a bald eagle at Dock Point. There is a restaurant on site but we didn't dine there so can't comment.

The hotel is situated right on the harbour. It is fairly large and busy so car parking was at a premium. There is no elevator but that was not too much of an issue for us. Our room had a great view across the water. It was compact with an unusual layout...the bathroom being in the middle of the side of the room. It was fairly small but seemed to have been refurbished. No air conditioning so we left the windows open...thankful for the screen to keep out the insects!! Everything was clean. The breakfast was the usual motel options and although the room was small there was plenty supplementary seating outside in the large hallway. We had no issue with the wifi but given the remoteness of Valdez, we would have understood had there been a problem. There was not a great deal of choice hotel wise in Valdez. We did feel that the accomodation was not really great value for the amount of money we paid. However, it is the remoteness of the location and the short summer season, that would explain why the hotel prices seem to be inflated.

My family and I recently visited Alaska and we stayed in Valdez. We arrived at the hotel at 10 pm and found there wasn't any parking. Adjoining the hotel, there is a restaurant, which uses the same parking lot as the hotel. Check-in was easy and we were placed on the 2nd floor. There were no elevators, so we had to carry all of our luggage up the stairs. There is no air conditioning in the hotel, so they prop open the outside entrances to cool off the hallways. There is a large window in the room, allowing you to watch the boats come in to harbor. Our room was nice. We had a queen sized bed and it was really comfy. The bathroom was small and smelled kind of funny, but it served its purpose. All in all, the room was very nice and clean. The hotel is right next to the harbor, which allows it to be a walking distance from shops along the water. The tour boat company is right next to the hotel, so we were able to walk outside and immediately get on our boat. We also enjoyed a short walk along the harbor to watch the fishermen bring their catch in. The Best Western has a fabulous location in the town of Valdez, allowing you to walk around the town and shop. We had a wonderful stay, and would stay here again if we went back to Alaska.

I rate this Best Western a 2 because of it's value. For $200.00 a night I expect more than what they offer. I would have rated it a 5 if they were charging $100.00 a night. I stayed in Valdez for 2 nights. One night I stayed here at the Best Western and the second night I stayed at the Mountain sky hotel. For the money the Mountain sky hotel was a better deal. As for the Best Western here is my review: The room was clean enough for a man and his two sons but I would not have brought my wife here. The room had two queen size beds that were comfortable and the bathroom had good water pressure and the hot water was plentiful. The room had a nice flat screen TV, isolating fan, small mini fridge, small coffee maker. Valdez is a very small town so all the hotels here are in easy walking distance to everything. The Best Western is the closest to the Harbor. What makes this Hotel a 2 is that you are spending $200.00 a night for a room that does not have any Wi-Fi, The TV has a limited basic programming no premium channels. The coffee maker was filthy ( not dirty) Filthy. There was no air-conditioning and the breakfast was comparable to cheaper motel fair. Yes the Hotel has a family of rabbits that live in the back yard but again the whole town in overrun with rabbits. It rained both days I was there so walking around in the rain feeding the rabbits and looking at the boats in the Harbor turned out to be our major source of entertainment. If you come to Valdez and want to fish just remember that the boats fill up fast in the summer so book a few months in advance. Valdez was a last minute decision for us and we could not beg, borrow or steal our way onto a charter boat. There are a few good places to eat in town but not that many. Valdez has one expensive gas station in town along with a carwash. The sights and scenery are good for a one day stay, two days if you can get a spot on a charter boat. Also remember that if you do get a spot on a boat and end up catching some fish, The town provides flash freezing, and shipping for your fish if you have someone back home that can receive it. I looked at the service and discovered that to package and ship 50 pounds of fish back to Houston it was going to cost me $300.00.

My daughter and I recently stayed at Best Western in Valdez for 5 nights. The hotel was clean and staff was helpful and friendly. Unfortunately, the Wifi broke after the second night and was out throughout the hotel the rest of our stay. Our room was on the second floor, overlooking the parking lot. The hotel has no air conditioning (apparently, this is the norm in Valdez), and the weather was fairly warm so we left our window open (otherwise the room would have been quite hot). Unfortunately, there's a lot of noise in the parking lot at night (people talking for a while, cars and motorcycles starting up) and it's quite bothersome. Breakfast was good and the hotel location is great. A darling family of bunny rabbits lives behind the hotel and is fun to watch. The hotel doesn't have an elevator, so be prepared to carry your luggage up the stairs if you're on the second floor. There aren't many hotel choices in Valdez, and Best Western is probably one of the better options, despite things that could be improved.

The appearance and overall cleanliness of the hotel was very good. The room was pretty clean except for some hair in the tub when we checked in. The room was very warm and there is no air conditioning. There is a fan in the room on a stand, but that provided little relief. It would have been better if it were a box fan that you could put in the window. The water temperature in the shower kept fluctuating from hotter to cooler so it was hard to control. They definitely need more outlets in the room. They provide a complimentary hot breakfast, which was very good. The breakfast is what pushed my overall rating to very good instead of average. I would consider staying there again unless there was a place available that had air conditioning.

I don't expect a lot from a Best Western and with that in mind this place was fine. Reasonably comfortable bed, basically clean though overall the place felt a bit trampled under foot. Two washers and dryers for guest laundry but only one of each working. The free breakfast was very basic and while you can get your standard high sugar, high fat food not a lot of options for the healthy eater - but did find some oatmeal. There is a good sized refrigerator in the room and a microwave.

Upstairs, hot, shower had hair all over tub. Downstairs wall vent held together with tape. Did I mention hot hot hot. Really only choice in Valdez. Won't come here again. Too bad beautiful scenery. Ceiling fans would be nice.

Location, location, location is what the Best Western is all about. It is near great sightseeing adventures, fishing boats, restaurants, and the gorgeous harbor. The staff were warm and welcoming. The room wasn't fancy, but we didn't go all the way to Valdez to stay in a hotel room.

Don't be put off by the "old motel" look to the place. The rooms are nicely sized with excellent beds and good amenities. Views are splendid. For the price, we found Best Western Valdez to be one of the top locations on our trip. The town is really delightful, and the staff represent their community proudly. For its superb location alone, we would recommend this property to travelers. The staff and facilities make it the choice!

Rated #1 in Valdez, doesn't say much for the others. The room was clean, I think, hard to tell with the aged carpet and fittings. Housekeeping needs to pay more attention to making sure the room has everything that it should have, like toilet paper and tissues. They provide a microwave but no utensils to eat your food with - go figure. The hotel also advertises that they are recycling conscious, yet do not provide enough hangers to put your towels on. I will only stay here again if there are no other options.

Not much to choose from in Valdez and the Best Western is the only modern hotel available. Rooms & common areas were clean but the walls are paper thin, so if you have to get up at 5am do your neighbors a favor and talk softly! There's a decent restaurant attached for a good lunch/dinner choice and the hotel offers a complimentary breakfast for guests ( but it's a small room). Wifi in these remote areas is very weak so don't expect to do anything more than check email.

We stayed here three nights during our Alaska trip. Great location! right at the harbor. We saw all the boats and the beautiful scenery out of our hotel room. Parking is in front of the hotel. Busy but we always found a spot. Very convenient - you can just walk from your hotel room to for example the glacier cruise boats, they leave right in front of the hotel. Hotel is a bit old but we were OK with our room, although it was maybe at the small side and the whole corridor/rooms all had a bit an old, dusty smell. It was quite warm when we were in Valdez, maybe that's why. Internet wifi in room available, although not super speedy. Staff at reception is friendly, and breakfast is just a bit better than average hotel breakfast (one day they had french toast which was really good). We had dinner twice in the restaurant attached to the hotel - good food (but slow service as it was busy but still worth to go there) Would for sure recommend when staying in Valdez!

We stayed here for 2 nights in June 2016. The location of the hotel is great - right on the harbour, with scenic views and close to local restaurants and other amenities. However, it lacks in style, cleanliness and atmosphere. The room was a good size but had a strange smell, and we had to open the window to ventilate and cool the room. Laundry is self-operated, which is inconvenient but at least cheap! The breakfast is terrible - the food is as plastic as the cutlery, with disposable plates, and served in a really small room, which gets crowded and there are not enough places to sit even in the corridor area. The bar is friendly and overlooks the harbour, but be aware you cannot charge drinks to your room. Security is potentially an issue - the fire door just below our room was permanently open and could be used to enter or exit by anyone, resident or not. Overall we were glad to move on!

We stayed in 5 cities in Alaska, and found this is the best hotel. It is clean, quite, comfortable. Especially we appreciated their shower head, which is adjustable, and we also appreciated their in room coffee maker and microwave oven, which makes our life more convenient. The staff are very friendly. It was a very pleasant stay in this hotel.

This is a very nice hotel that is perfectly located on the Harbor right near restaurants, museums, day adventure day trip shops and boat rides. The motel is clean, the rooms and nice size and they offer TV and WIFI and the breakfast is good with fresh fruit and hot items also. The beds and bathrooms were clean and good. We will stay here again when we come back to Valdez.

My fiance and I just got back from a 12 day trip to Alaska and this hotel was sadly our least favourite. Check-in When checking in the receptionist was a bit cold. She was not directly unfriendly but we had much warmer welcomes during our stay in Alaska. I personally felt like we were inconveniencing her a bit. At least check-in was pretty fast (we also managed to just get in front of an entire coach of people thank goodness). The next day we asked reception for help booking an excursion and the young lady at the desk was friendly, helpful and polite so it seems like their staff has a mix of higher and lower performers. The Room The size of the room was fine however it smelled very musty and was hot all the time. The decor was also pretty dark and depressing. In my opinion all the carpets and curtains need to be replaced with fresher and brighter alternatives. We had a 'harbour view room' and it was more a view of the car park with a bit of the harbour in the distance, which left us feeling a bit disappointed. The car park also means a lot of noise. Even gone 1am loud engine noises kept waking us up. The Restaurant Probably the best part of this hotel. Some of the pasta dishes were surprisingly pricey (pasta of all things!) but it was at least delicious. The restaurant staff were all friendly and did a great job looking after all of the guests. The Breakfast Both of us found it ok, especially the morning they served pancakes (which were a little dry but we both found them palatable enough). Overall the offering of this hotel isn't bad but it really could do better. Valdez is pretty remote and I am sure that results in limitations difficult for them to control but there are definitely some improvements that this hotel could make.

This is your best choice in Valdez. It locates right next to the harbour with great glacier view just from the window. The hotel looks old from outside but was remodeled inside and looks nice. It is a little compacted but fits four people well. The bathroom is fancy and clean. However, the breakfast is very mediocre and below average among best Westerns.

The drive to Valdez from Anchorage is amazing and beautiful. Unfortunately, Valdez has limited options for lodging, and the Best Western sounded like the best bet because it was close to the harbor. Check-in was slow. I stood at the counter for ten minutes before someone arrived. The receptionist seemed annoyed that she had to do her job. We had two rooms -- both located on the first floor directly by the door with people coming and going. We had to hear a lot of conversations and suitcases rolling by at all hours. The rooms weren't lit well, and there was a musty smell. We had a parking lot view. We had trouble with the television at night and had to call and request help twice. Breakfast was average. We didn't see anyone refilling food or cleaning tables as needed. I needed to wash some clothes on one occasion. Only one washer and one dryer were functioning so customers were competing for the machines. Not a good experience. Our impression of the Valdez Best Western is that is is not ever going to be an outstanding hotel until management cracks down and makes some serious changes. As it stands, unfortunately, it's just an average place to stay.

The location of the Best Western is great - close to the harbour and to local restaurants. However, the complimentary breakfast was pretty dire: unappealing scrambled eggs and unappetising bread and pastries. Also why on earth do you need cardboard bowls and plates and plastic cutlery? This is not at all environmentally friendly and seems to go against everything Alaska stands for. The rooms were OK, though rather dated. Ice water and free coffee in the reception was a nice touch.

This motel is in a great location with a view of the bay from the room. We tried to check in three different times in the afternoon, and even at 4pm they weren't ready for us. Finally we got to our good-sized room with two comfortable chairs. However, the room was poorly lit. Also, we had to call for a maintenance man twice--once to fix our TV and once to fix our sink. The bed was comfortable, and we had a quiet night except for some squeaky floors. The bathroom was small with some counter space. The shower head was good, and we had plenty of hot water. The breakfast room was small and crowded, and they were slow to restock items. They offered pretty good eggs, sausage, French toast, oatmeal, etc. We ate dinner one night at the attached restaurant (Roma Italian Kitchen). We were not impressed with the food, and the service was extremely slow. We had a good lunch at a reasonable price at Mike's Palace down the street.

Got lucky to get a room by the Coast Guard boats. Had diesel fumes coming in the open window from the boats. They don't have A/C, it was so humid and warm in the room we needed air. We had to get a room on the other side of the building. WI-FI was useless, read the sign. Yet going to dinner a couple of blocks away we had great WI-FI. Having the front desk call tech support and them having me change things on my laptop made icons disappear. I spent a lot of time trying to undo what they messed up. Saw a child spill a liquid in the doorway into the breakfast area and reported it to the front desk and two other employees walked past it and just looked at it. No one ever cleaned it up. When trying to go to dinner, in the rain, we saw an employee sitting in the BW van in the parking lot. We asked if they did close by shuttles. We got a big "NO". So off in the rain we went. What is the shuttle for?

So there is handicap parking, handicap ramps but there is NO elevator!! Really?? So my family carries my luggage up and I took my time climbing the stairs. Hated that!! No A/C in the room on the hottest day of our trip...78 degrees I believe. We did have 1 fan in our room and obtained another. So with fans and an opened window we survived. The complimentary breakfast was satisfactory.

I've stayed at the Harbor Inn six times over the past ten years and each time is better than the last. There have been many upgrades through the years and constant improvement. This time Courtny at the front desk was extremely helpful and very friendly. Anywhere else this would be a very modest hotel, but it's the best that Valdez has to offer, with a great location right on the marina and a good restaurant and bar attached. I was in Valdez for a theatre conference and all agreed that the Harbor Inn had the best breakfast (included) of all the hotels in town, with eggs, sausage, fruit, yogurt and cereal. The wi-fi can be slow, as the sign at the front desk proclaims, but it was complimentary. There is no elevator to this two-story building and no bellman service, so ask for a ground floor room if stairs are a problem.

Have stayed at this hotel numerous times over the past twenty years. Usually was a good stay with a nice eatery attached. Things have changed in 2016! Here's some tips: 1) Dinner, please allow 2 hours for mediocre Italian food to arrive at your table andyou may want to bring your own water for the wait. Also in the dining room get ready for the floor show: waitresses and bus staff bickering on whose job it is to do what. 2) Amenities: You also may want to bring your own coffee and shampoo for the morning as there must be a shortage of these items here for the past two days. 3) Parking: Valdez is a small town so the walk to the hotel isn't bad. Good luck finding parking in there lot due to numerous boats, trailers, and other obstacles that take up guest spots. 4) "Free Breakfast" Yes, if you beat the other guests there...and you better be quick. 5) The rooms are HOT...not the good kind of hot....Just the stuffy and uncomfortable variety. 6) Wi fi is kinda like when your garden hose gets a kink in it, at best!

We were happy with the accommodation and service of this hotel. We appreciate the bathroom shower head, which can be adjusted, the coffee maker and microwave oven in our room, so we can make tea or hot water conveniently for drinking.Old people are accustomed to drink hot or warm water, rather than cold or icy water. The room temperature is easy to adjust, and the bed cover is not too heavy as most other hotels provide to their guests. It made our stay very comfortable. The room is quiet and very clean.

Good quality Best Westerrn Hotel, extremely comfortable bed, clean room, one of the best breakfast buffets i had on my 10 day Alaska vacation. Wide variety of food items and excellent selection of fresh fruits. Hotel was also a great value for the cost. Would stay there again. Only complaint was it was 82 degrees outside and they do not have airconditioning. To be fair this warm weatherr is unusual for Valdez.

The room was clean, the check-in was fast and the lady at the front desk was nice and helpful. The breakfast was decent. The only issue was our room was about 80*. The thermostat was down all the way and it was uncomfortably warm. The key card stopped working after breakfast on our last day, we couldn't get back in our room to pack up. Check out was at 11, we were back to our room by 9:30. The office fixed it right away, but kind of irritating.

We booked our stay at best western during our 2 day stay at Valdez ! It's very close to the main Harbor and everything from supermarket and Anadyr adventures ( with whom we booked our kayak trip ) was within walking distance ! Room was comfy , nice and huge for 4 of us . Staff was courteous and helpful . There is a restaurant downstairs which serves awesome food with a nice view ! Breakfast was usual next morning . All in all , a nice choice of hotel around Valdez ... Very very close to main Harbor ..

There are not a lot of choices of places to stay in Valdez, so I went with the chain hotel, and it was a good choice. It is right on the harbor and walking distance to anywhere in the small town of Valdez. The breakfast was typical of hotel breakfasts and the room was standard. We had warm showers in the morning because the water did not get hot. Since there is a check-in rush when the ferry arrives, it took a while to check in, but the woman working the desk was very nice. I asked specifically for a room that was not near the elevator or ice machine, and she said she had never had any noise complaints for this room. When we got to our room it was right next to both! When we asked to change rooms, she was kind about it, and though we may have had a nicer view with the first room, I slept better with the quiet. We stayed two nights so we could do a river raft tour and hike before we headed north. I really like the little town of Valdez. Remote and beautiful with character.

Not many places to choose from as far as accommodations. Valdez is small, and lodging options are limited. The location is great, service was excellent, free breakfast was good. Lodging was average, but what I expected.

Our hotel room was very clean and the bed was SO comfy!! There was a variety of choices offered for breakfast and the ice cold water offered throughout the day was a nice bonus. Be sure to notice that the high top tables in the lobby. These are great breakfast seating options since the breakfast room itself is quite cozy. The hotel is located right beside the small boat harbor as well as on the canal where the boats come and go out into the sound. We sat and watched the boats as well as a few sea otters. It was great! Tip: Ask for a room facing the parking lot so that the afternoon sun doesn't heat up your room. Keep in mind that most places in Alaska do not have air conditioning.

Best Western is in the harbor and convenient to most places in town. There is a restaurant and breakfast buffet. The hotel is basic and tired looking. This is not a luxury hotel so do not expect that. Our room was clean and we had everything we needed. It was a little noisy but we had the window open due to unseasonably warm weather. Hotel staff were pleasant and provided what we needed when asked.

Best Location in Valdez on the Harbour front, easy check in (helpful staff), large room on the ground floor so at least being solo I did not have to drag my luggage upstairs. Breakfast was hot/cold good choice and plenty of room to sit and eat. Restaurant & Bar on site but others around, not much else in the town but good time had.

Friendly staff, OK breakfast, good water pressure in the shower, comfortable beds. We had room 301 which was a very large room. No elevator to get to the 2nd floor. Does have a fitness room, on site restaurant and laundry machines available to guests. The pet rabbits running around loose in the back courtyard are a hoot.

The hotel was very easy to find and was in a convenient location. Staff was very friendly at the front desk at both check in and check out. The room was very clean and comfortable. The only problem I had was with the shower and hot water in general. The water had to run for a very long time before it got hot. Then while I was in the shower the water would alternately get ice cold and then very hot so I had to several times get out of the shower spray and wait to adjust the water again. The breakfast was the best we have ever had at a hotel. The presentation was excellent and included two kinds of eggs, sausage, hot oatmeal with several topping and mix ins, yogurt with fruit to add, and two kinds of fruit--many more choices and healthier than most.

This is about as good as it gets. You're right on the water. There is a restaurant and bar on sight. Breakfast in the morning. You're just a few steps from the piers. The view is amazing looking out over the harbor.

Have worked in retail most of my life, and always know answers to specific questions, staff should take the incentive to learn about all offerings of your establishment. Wish i could have purchased your amazing pillows.

Our room was just ok, but the bedding smelled like someones body and hair -there was also dried blood on my pillow. It was definetly not washed prior. There was also a couple hairs in the bathtub upon arrival. Things like that change your overal experience and creep you out.

Hotel needs to be updated and go no smoking and no pets.Old building odor (stale smoke) is present. People who work at the hotel were very nice and helpful.There is late night noise due to the lounge open to the parking lot. Due to lounge and restaurant, parking for hotel guests is limited.

The rooms were clean but small and hot. The plug in fan provided in the room needed cleaning. No elevators. Friendly staff and great restraunt and bar. Could use more information about things to do around the area.

We were traveling out of season (first week of May), so the B&B's were still closed. So we booked a night here and it turned out to be a good stay. To hedge our bet, we paid an extra $10 to get a slightly nicer, water view room. Also, we asked for and got the top (2nd) floor to ensure any noisy neighbors wouldn't keep us up. Due to the orientation of the hotel, water views are limited, but it's still worth going for whatever upgrades you can get. When you stay at a hotel like this your experience can be strongly impacted by your neighbors. Room was fairly typical for a BW, but had everything you need. King bed, a cabinet with a mini-fridge, microwave, and 42" TV with cable channels. There was a work table and task chair, a separate wing chair with ottoman, and a table with a drip coffee maker. The bathroom was not super large, but the shower had lots of pressure and hot water. Room was a nice size and super clean. I liked that the window opened, for fresh air. There's no A/C, but it wasn't needed on this visit. Noted a small fitness center, but didn't use it. The large foyer has exposed log beams and a couple of cabinets with local crafts. One unusual feature is an on-site barber shop. Don't bother with the onsite restaurant, Roma Italian Kitchen. We tried it, and discovered it is very expensive for what it is, and it's not that great. There's a few other options for eating within walking distance. Check the restaurant reviews. We wish we'd gone to Nick's. Location is on the harbor, but our room was quiet and picturesque (though not romantic if that's what you're looking for). But it is a working harbor so you may hear noise pretty early in the morning, like 7AM. There are plenty of places to walk to, especially if you're there in the summer. There are rabbits everywhere outside. Room numbers appear to start from the waterfront end (101/201) and go up from there up toward the other end of the hotel. Service was not that great. The check in process took 15 minutes because the one person was overwhelmed by a group of construction workers checking in trying to use a company account and having to call back to an office somewhere. Then that night a fire alarm went off and everyone had to evacuate to the lobby, and it took them about 30 minutes to figure that out. The fire alarm wasn't their fault, though, and it makes for a good story. Overall we were happy with our stay here, and considering the area, it was a good value.

We found ourselves looking for last minute lodgings in Valdez since the b & b where we had advance reservations were not available for our 4pm checkin. We dashed over to the BW and got the last two rooms. Prices were reasonable and breakfast was included and tasty. The place is a tad tired but our rooms were clean and the view was lovely. The place was ordinary but there was really nothing terrible at all so we were, in the end, very happy to have stayed there.........as opposed to driving another 400 miles to Anchorage!

This is a very nice hotel near the harbor, but the view was blocked by fishery buildings. The room was quite comfortable. They offered an excellent hot breakfast with many choices. I would stay again if in town.

The Best Western hotel in Valdez is the best hotel there. It was quite loud with noisy basketball players staying in most of the rooms and running up and down the hall. The view from the hotel was beautiful and the breakfast was a nice bonus!!

I was called for noise for the tv and talking to my daughter while the neighbors were banging on the walls. I went for a late walk and the staff was rude as hell. waited for ever to check in and OUT. The bar staff was talking crap on patrons were bar sitters could hear!1 this place is efed up!! I just stayed at BW pioneer in Fairbanks and it was Great!!! I will never stay At BW valdez for sure

This was day 26 on our Cross-Canada/Alaska tour, we stayed here for two nights and relaxed from a long day of driving from Seward. We especially enjoyed the beautiful Bridal Veil Falls as we were entering the town, which is also very charming. The hotel lobby is very nice with beautiful logs in some areas, the staff extremely friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast is good and plentiful, hot and cold. The room itself was a bit small and did have a musty smell. There is no a/c but the window opens. There is a fridge, micro and coffee maker. The room was clean and bed comfy. We had a room facing the marina. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant, ordered Chilean sea bass and it was excellent. The service was personal and friendly. We toured the museum which was really interesting. We walked to the Alaska Marine to pick up ferry tickets and again were greeted by helpful and friendly staff. Staying in Valdez was a highlight of our trip.

There are not many hotels in Valdez. This one could be the best in town however several points are disappointing. Noise from the upper floor and the couloir, poor breakfast, small bathroom, some smell in the room, are the main issues. But let's remember we are in Valdez, the door of the last frontier...

I have to say that I frequently review properties that I visit since I was in the lodging and hospitality business for 10 years and managed everything from 2 star properties to platinum five star properties. This is a guest's opportunity to make management aware of problems and to let others know that there could be potential problems for their stay, or it could help sway them in their decision to book elsewhere. In the case of the Best Western Valdez, I would say book elsewhere unless you have no where else to go... The rooms we requested were "non-smoking" however, they had been smoked in. There was film on the windows from the smoke and the towels in the bathroom also smelled of smoke. The rooms also smelled of funk, mildew, and must. If you stay here, your clothes will smell the same as well. The windows are operable, so management should consider opening them and airing out these rooms before a guest checks in. At first glance, the room was "clean enough", but the closer you started looking, the more frequently you would see things such as toe nail clippings, or body hairs in the shower and along the shower edges. Additionally, the toilet in our room had been plugged up by a housekeeper or previous guest with too much toilet paper so the toilet would not flush. That is something that should have been mitigated or caught by housekeeping or the inspector prior to any guest checking in. The next morning, we asked the young man at the front desk to please have it resolved by plunging, or snaking it while we were out skiing. We came back and found that he had not taken care of the work order. The maintenance guy came by with a plunger and took care of it. The next day, the same thing with the toilet. This time we had to hunt down a plunger from the girl at the front desk and do it ourselves. There is something wrong with the toilet and I would hope that you track your work orders to see a trend emerging...the toilet in the room we stayed in needs to be snaked - there is a problem, please fix it for future guests. Other than the guy at the front desk who dropped the ball on the toilet work order, the staff was really charming and helpful. Wifi is slow... One other recommendation -- put in a designated smoking area outside of the entrance to your property. Now that AK has joined the majority with a smoking ban, help those who do not want to breathe in someone else's carcinogen smoke into their body and give the smokers a sheltered place to go.

First of all , frond desk was really very nice and polite. Room was clean but pillow could be bigger. Other than that hotel is really clean and beds are very comfortable . We will go back in summertime .price is reasonable , since we are from Alaska , we got discount .

We stayed two nights during an unexpectedly heavy snow (24 inches fell in 24 hours) and the staff was very helpful both in clearing the parking lot and helping us clear all that snow off our car. The breakfast was very good and the premises were clean. Our room had an odd odor. Not bad or offensive, just odd. But the room was spacious, everything worked great (nice to have fridge and microwave in room), bathroom was clean and nicely updated. Can't complain at all, Valdez is a charming town and worth the visit for sure!

I highly recommend the Best Western hotel in Valdez, Alaska. The best part of my stay was the friendly staff that went out of their way to assist me in everything from dinner recommendations, directions, along with other advice, (to even chatting about the area). The rooms are extremely clean, the Internet works great, and the hotel really fits in well to the area, (it looks rustic). There is a great lounge inside the hotel, along with a barbershop. The hotel also has a great free breakfast buffet. They could not improve in any way.

Friendly staff, well kept rooms, great location, breakfast included. One of the great Best Western locations. Restaurant on location for lunch and dinner meals. Rabbits running loose around the outside of the facility. Have stayed here several times and never been disappointed in the service received. There are several places to stay in Valdez but this is the best.

Very pleased with our stay. Front desk was quick to help get us checked in and provide a city map with directions to the museum and old town Valdez. Our room was very big with a nice ocean view and a whirlpool hot tub, microwave and 55" tv with a dvd player and cable. The restaurant in the hotel had great food and decor plus a wonderful harbor view and the free breakfast in the morning was a full buffet. Eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, muffins, fruit, donuts, cereal, juice. Tasted good too not like it was cheap freezer bucket eggs or anything. Very happy with our stay will definitely come back here.

Love this hotel in Valdez. The accommodations are clean and comfortable. The scenery is breathtaking. The bar on-site is great. The breakfast buffet (complimentary) is excellent. But I do have to say, the stay this weekend was tarnished by the fact that -- on a Sunday morning, at 7:30 a.m. -- a very loud busy noisy crew started clearing the parking lot. With no new snowfall, the urgency was puzzling. My room was on the ground floor facing the parking lot, and the noise was unbearable -- a constant loud scraping sound of the trucks scooping up ice and snow followed immediately and repeatedly by the shrill BEEP BEEP BEEP of the vehicles in reverse. It went on for an hour and was horrible. I mean - 7:30 a.m., on a Sunday!?!? Ugh. I have always loved this hotel, but this was really a poor experience. I would hope the hotel in the future works with its clearing crews to manage operations outside reasonable sleep hours -- especially when there is no new snowfall.

Stayed here for 2 days. Hotel itself is not too bad at all. Rooms are clean and as long as you have normal quiet neighbors its pretty quiet. They have free WiFi and your typical free breakfast which is not too bad at all as long as your not a picky high end person (not trying to offend anyone but I have met some ppl who are just ridiculous and think think they are entitled to royalty 24/7). Breakfast is eggs, sausage links, french toast, cereals, yogurt, coffee, bagels, and a few pastries. They also have everything you need walking distance and the Roma Italian restaurant next door is delicious but a little pricey. We came during winter season, I am definitely coming back in the summer. Recommend coming in the summer instead of winter.

Overall very clean and nice. The beds were hard and sheets itchy. Front desk staff were nice but were not overly helpful. Very nice breakfast but not if you're looking for healthy options. The restaurant and bar had excellent food and service.

The welcome was fine, as was check-in. There isn't much to write about that unless there's some extra-special attention. The room was well appointed, made up right and cozy. I was disappointed the refrigerator wasn't already cool to receive the juice and salsa I bought and brought but it cooled quickly after I turned it on. There was a puddle of water right in front of the sink in the bathroom. I couldn't find a source and the bath mat made short order of it. It didn't get bigger/wetter with my use so might have been a cleaning spill. I went out to the desk to ask about the attached restaurant. I had stayed here before, and eaten at the restaurant but it was under a different cuisine, name and management then. The desk clear absolutely gushed about the food so I figured I'd try it again/anew. It was AWESOME - see my separate posting on it. The hotel was fairly quiet and the night went well. Checkout was simple, east - walked by the desk and dropped my keycard. I'll gladly stay here again when I make it back down to Valdez.

The first room wreaked of cigarette smoke despite being a non-smoking room. Thankfully the kind young man at the front desk found me another. However, then I was at the far end of the hotel where the semi-trucks park for the night and had to listen to their generators/engines all night. Even with earplugs it was not a restful sleep. Also, the bathroom toilet leaked and the bathroom floor had a huge puddle. One funny thing though was that the mirror on the wall was a lot like a funhouse mirror so I had a good laugh with that. Otherwise clean though so can't complain there. I

Clean and neat hotel. Helpful staff with good attitudes. The breakfast room is casual with a good variety of eats, plus sharing conversations with other visitors in the morning.The on site restaurant (Roma Italian Kitchen) has a beautiful view of the harbor. Great location.

The hotel was great. The staff was extremely helpful and nice. Jessica one if the ladies at the front desk. Gave me a map with all thw points on interest. Their continental breakfast was on point and served plenty of food

I work in Valdez and have stayed at this place every month for three years. It's almost the only game in town. The Microtel is pretty bad, and this one isn't perfect but it's better. If you want a rustic experience, book a room at the "Man Camp". The food has been good in the past, but I haven't tried it with the new manager.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay! We had no issues with the facility the water temperature and pressure was AWESOME! The room was neat and clean. The staff was polite and helpful. The breakfast had biscuits and gravy that didn't taste fishy, instant points in my book.

Nice motel along the harbor where you can watch the boats go by. Plenty of room in our room, though parking lot fills up and you might have to park in the street. Look for the bunnies in the courtyard. They serve warm breakfast in the morning with eggs, meat, toast, cereal, and pastries. Nice for setting up shop for visiting the area.

Hotel staff excellent, clean comfortable rooms, walking distance from entire town. Love the resident bunnies. Will stay there again. Hotel right on the water, it is nice watching the ships come in and go out.

This is the best place to stay in Valdez. Mind you, that is a low bar but this Best Western hotel matched my experiences at other Best Western hotels so this is not a bad choice - clean, quiet and decently laid out. The climate controls worked. The attached restaurant was closed for renovation which was a real bummer because my experience (100+ times over 30 years) is that this is clearly the best restaurant in town.

The Best Western Valdez is not markedly different to others in the chain but it is in a terrific location right next to Valdez harbour. In fact, there is a courtyard with chairs where you can sit and watch the fishing boats travel in and out - there is a family of rabbits here too. The breakfast is included and it is excellent, it is however, often shared with bus groups so get in early for the best spread. Our room, which faced the carpark, was clean and comfy but the carpark can be an issue - tours arrive at different times up until quite late and people tend to stand about talking as they wait for their bags to be offloaded...it's noisy and they are oblivious to the fact they are outside someone's window. Apart from that, shops are nearby as is the harbour for kayak hire, there are several restaurants within walking distance, many with views of both the harbour and the mountains. Laundry facilities are available. The wifi is pretty good and also complimentary. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Recommended.

Valdez. End of the road. End of the pipeline. Not really the kind of place you expect 5-star, European elegance in a hotel. Thankfully. Because, you won't find it here. But you will find a hotel that matches your expectations. Comfortably adequate. But nothing more. Clean rooms, but paper thin walls where you'll hear your neighbor's poodle snoring. Fitness center, but only one treadmill, stick back I. A closet where there's no circulation. Million dollar view out the window, but the window won't open for circulation. You get the idea. Not disappointing, but not impressive either.

We had been touring Alaska for two weeks and this was our last stop. The drive to Valdez is spectacular. We had no trouble finding the hotel. Check in went smooth and our room was excellent. Very big and clean with a nice King Sized bed. The only draw back was no elevator which normally is no problem for us but my husband is having some heart issues and carrying heavy suitcases up the steps was a little "iffy". The room was quiet. We were upstairs on the back side so the view was not good but we didn't really care. There was a comfortable chair to relax in and a nice desk chair for computer use. We would definitely stay again. This was our cheapest room during our two weeks of traveling.

I ended up getting a smoking room as that was all they had left. The room was decent, but never got used to the stale smoke smell :( The breakfast was as expected. The location was the best part about this hotel.

We stopped in for a bit of advice & found Steve to be incredibly helpful. He was so helpful, that we sought his advice twice. On Monday night (football) we stopped in at the packed bar.The view from the bar is so beautiful. Unfortunately, the world's grumpiest bartender was on duty. Could not wait to leave.

When we came to check-in, we had to wait for her to finish her vocal personal call with her son before we could be served. Then the room keys were fouled up. Once in our room it was 97 degrees with the heat turned OFF. There was only one small window and no fan to control the temp. VERY awful experience here.
