    « Multiple stays - business »

Great location close to M1 but with a rural setting, lovely terrace for enjoying a post work drink in the sunshine or a gym should you need the extra workout. Always have a great nights sleep, aircon in rooms if needed and lots of pillow I keep meaning to avoid the cooked breakfast for the healthy option but fail every time as the bacon is delicious

« Yes this is the one Great however me telling it like it is »

Great location near Motorway but out in the country side but a great view. Check in great staff so good, room so good stunning views out across the hills on one side. The food great and staff in there great Bar was great but they try to be 5 star London Park Lane but they miss it sorry guys. Clean and great all round my advice when they tell you room get very clear instructions on way to the room location. Some building work but nothing to concern you and the guys are so good. 3 days which were so good

    « Amazing »

The staff were brilliant and so welcoming. The room was fantastic and an absolute pleasure. We had a lovely weekend break and the hotel was the icing on the cake. The location is so handy but the setting is just lovely. The food was delicious and very good value. We enjoyed every minute. And a personal thanks to the Manager (Gavin?) For making our stay so pleasurable. We will be back

« Great value for money »

We visited as two couples - the men playing golf at nearby Lindrick which was fantastic the girls having a little retail therapy at Meadowhall . The hotel looks great and the staff could not be friendlier or more helpful . Rooms we had were large and very clean . Bathrooms are large wet rooms and very good . Bar is reasonably priced . Breakfast was excellent and freshly cooked . Everything pipping hot . It's ideally situated 9 miles from Sheffield £15 in a taxi . I think it warrants more than the 3 stars given . Great value for money and well worth a stay .

    « Missed Star »

My wife and I booked a mid week stay with friends and we chose two standard rooms for two nights. Our friends room was named Featheredge and our room Harley apparently (after cutlery as the hotel is near Sheffield) We were both very pleased with the standard of decor, comfort and cleanliness of each room. All of the staff we came into contact with which includes reception, bar and restaurant were professional and friendly and in my opinion work well as a team. Both my wife and my friends wife are very particular about cleanliness and noticed that cleaning staff are in evidence wiping down hand rails dusting and generally keeping the hotel up to standard . Evening meals were of a good quality, well presented and reasonably priced and served in good time. Breakfast was also very good value well cooked and provides plenty of choice. Breakfast is thankfully cooked to order rather than buffet style which means it is tasty and fresh whether you are an early or late riser. The hotel has a gym with a good selection of equipment including machines and loose weights . The house is situated in easy reach of the M1 and provides plenty of car parking space and as it is within its own extensive grounds afforded a quite nights sleep well away from any traffic noise . A surprise that this hotel is only ranked 3 star . We found the hotel good cloice within easy reach of the Peak District National Park Chatsworth and Hardwick House. Wi fi was free without pesky codes and worked . Service , Sleep quality , Cleanliness all excellent .

A very nice hotel in lovely surroundings. Clean and well appointed room. Pleasant bar area with OK food from a limited menu although I believe that the restaurant menu is more extensive. Very nice breakfast. Staff pleasant throughout my stay

« Perfect service and exceptionally friendly staff »

Recently dropped in for a last minute dinner in the restaurant on Saturday evening, and despite them holding a wedding at the hotel on the same evening, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We were shown to a table in the bar where we ordered drinks and then were escorted into dinner. The meal was superb and very good value for the quality of food. Went down nicely with their newly introduced gin cocktails! Olivia in the Restaurant and Natalie in the bar were particularly friendly and helpful, thank you. Definitely plan to return again.

« Excellent Stay and afternoon tea »

Booked this stay after a disappointing stay at another Best Western Hotel the previous week. This stay was absolutely fabulous. A warm welcome at reception greeted us and lovely friendly staff behind the bar and waiting outside. Afternoon Tea was the best i have had - and i do like my afternoon teas! Too much to finish in fact Booked The Tempest Suite in the Darcy House. Very nice room and exactly what we were looking for - the only criticism is its looking a bit tired - Deep purple carpets throughout the stairs and the room were unfortunately looking stained and the silver chais settee was quite marked and scratched. However overall a lovely stay and would return

« Quite possibly the best midweek stay i've ever had »

Stayed here for one night with work. From the minute we arrived the staff from reception through to the bar were amazing. Genuinely friendly, welcoming and fun. In a stroke of luck we had two of the large bedrooms which were huge with king size bed and couch. Food was amazing too. Thank you everyone:) Awesome job

    « 80 th Birthday Party »

Held my mums 80th Birthday Party in the Gondola suite, large spacious room and the staff could not have been more helpful. for reasons beyond everyone's control the reservation had to be cancelled twice but the hotel held the price and went out of their way to hold the event for us, excellent.

Went to George Michael tribute night here and decided to stay was best decision we made was really nice. Staff were great room was fantastic couldn't fault it thinking of going back July for ABBA night. A+++

    « Amazing Aston »

We visited as a group of couples for a George Michael tribute night and had an amazing time . The food was delicious, the act was fantastic and definitely good value for money . The hotel itself was lovely and clean , our room was very spacious, modern and the bed was really comfortable. The bathroom was a wet room , again spotlessly clean , the only slight negative was the weak water pressure in the shower . We would all definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others .

    « Great hotel »

Was only here for one day and one night for a wedding but it was a very nice hotel, the food was excellent so if the everyday guests get that same quality then they are very lucky people. The room was a decent price and had a nice view as well. Would happily use again if in the area.

« Five stars all the way. »

We booked Aston Hall for my daughters wedding a year in advance, and by virtue of many visits thought we had covered every base regarding arrangements and themes for the wedding weekend. During the build-up some of the party became a little anxious which is to be expected, though we were to be reassured constantly all was under control and every detail would be attended to. Every minute detail was evidently catered for, and from guests arriving on the Friday afternoon until breakfast on Sunday morning the Bride and Groom, family members and indeed all guests remarked upon the wonderful location, professional management and extremely courteous and efficient staff during the course of the weekend. The food was a delight and once again mentioned by a multitude of guests as being first class, from the canapes upon arrival, to the main meal, then evening buffet and Sunday breakfast all items being exceptionally well presented. David ( Hotel Manager ) and Holly ( Wedding Planner ) provided professionalism of the highest order and ensured all ran smoothly over the weekend and every request no matter how minor was attended to accordingly. As father of the bride i would have no hesitation in recommending Aston Hall to future events such as this. We have also eaten there recently and can only speak highly of the food and service...all five stars throughout. Many thanks once again David.

    « Amazing hotel »

We came with a wedding party for the full day and evening, the service, food and rooms were excellent. The bedroom and bathroom were very big and decor to a high standard, we would definitely recommend this hotel

    « Great themed night »

Went to a tribute night and stayed b&b. Changed the rooms 3 or 4 times before the stay, nothing was a problem. Greeted by a very friendly lady, who took a picture of our group dressed up. Food very nice, served good and fast. Wine was expensive but expected. The George Michael act was ace and good disco after. The rooms were spacious and the beds were comfy. Wish I'd known it had a bath would have arrived earlier! Breakfast very nice, good choice and the full English was hot.

« Noisy night with no sleep, poor breakfast »

We stayed at Aston for a late Valentine's Day treat, the room was beautiful unfortunately the noise of the wedding that was taking place was unbearable- shouting outside in the early hours and we didn't feel comfortable sitting in the bar as it was rowdy and lots of drunk people. Restaurant food not great and breakfast even worse.

I cannot praise the staff enough. From the planning of the party right through to the actual night. Everyone was pleasant, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The party was great and the room was Lovely. Man thanks

« Restaurant food very poor »

We visited the restaurant on our 40th wedding anniversary, in fact we have visited the restaurant many times over the past 10 years and have always enjoyed the food and service. On this last occasion the food was very disappointing I didn't have a starter my husband did of sardines on toast. He said it was ok ish. I ordered sirloin steak £20.which I thought was expensive but it was a special occasion, it had no flavour at all and to be honest was very disappointing . my husband had cajun chicken he felt the same about his meal. In fact he left half of it As previously mentioned we have visited the restaurant many times before and have rarely been disapointed on this occasion we most certainly were. On a posative note the staff are excellent friendly and very efficient, including the bar staff and reception.our waitress was first class It cost us £50. For two main meals and one starter Not a fourtune but it wasent Worth it Sorry won't be returning any time soon.

« Great single stay, lovely room & fantastic value »

I booked a 1-night stay for work in a single room. For the price I was hugely impressed with the quality of my room and the bathroom was brand new with a walk-in shower. Everything I needed was in the room, wardrobe, safe, hairdryer, kettle and hot drinks facility. The small gym was just next door, very clean and the machines fairly new. I was really impressed and had the whole gym to myself for an hour. For the price this is one of the best hotels I've stayed in Chesterfield. Thank you.

    « Wedding visit »

Enjoyed a 2 night stay at Aston Hall whilst attending a wedding. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfy. Staff extremely friendly, especially the housekeeping ladies who constantly welcomed me as I passed up and down the corridor leading to my room. Breakfast was adequate. Maybe abit more imagination with the choices of continental, bigger pots of tea and a better, less tinny sounding CD player in the breakfast room. The wedding itself was probably one of the best I've been to. Food was amazing. For the wedding breakfast I had goat's cheese crostini followed by Cajun chicken and finally sticky toffee pudding . The portion size was large and all 3 courses tasted delicious. During the evening we were treated to a plentiful hot and cold buffet, again good quality. The function room was large and well decorated whilst the staff continued to be attentive until the early hours of the morning . I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone considering booking a wedding venue in future.

    « Hotel Stay »

Had a lovely time at this hotel for my Aunties 80th Birthday. But found the bar wasnt big enough for the amount of people staying at the hotel if there was an event on. Also the breakfast wasnt much to write home about. Set up in all different areas to the restaurant - in corridor and in the bar! Would also be better if it was help yourself and not dished up for you! The evening meal served in the restaurant was beautiful. All of the staff where lovely.

    « Business but pleasure »

Stayed on business but delighted with the hotel. Room and bathroom were good sizes, and the food in the restaurant was excellent. Breakfast was a bit hit and miss with no-one on hand to explain how you got tea, coffee, etc., but it was very busy with an overnight wedding party.

    « Excellent »

Had a brilliant night stay here for a wedding. Friendly and helpful staff would stay again. Breakfast wasn't hot but overall good. The heavy snowfall made it a magical place to be. X looking forward to going later in the year

    « Great Night »

We held a surprise retirement party in the banqueting suite on Friday evening. Staff were on hand from early morning to help set up the room and were extremely accommodating , nothing was too much trouble. The night was amazing. Great hotel and brilliant staff. Thank you for helping make the night so special.

    « Absolutely incredible!!! »

We are currently staying at the hotel whilst we have work done on our home. This hotel is not a 3* hotel ...this is an amazing establishment with top of the range staff and amazing facilities. It feels like more top of the range 4*/5*. The food is amazing and the beds are the most comfortable i have experienced in a long time. The staff have bent over backeards to accommodate us and make us feel welcome. Everyone is bubbly and friendly and always smiling. The staff make this place and we couldn't thank them enough for everything they did to make us feel welcome amd relaxed. A special thank you to Sarah on reception who only started a few days before we checked in.... an amazing lady who will be a wonderful asset to the team. I have never known such a wondeful amd friendly team of people who honestly couldn't do enough to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Thank you everyone. Claire, Neal and Samuel :-)

« Mothers day afternoon tea. »

I booked the mother's day afternoon tea with prosecco for my wife, we had a lovely time, it was great value and nice food. Will look forward to booking again next year. Also all mum's were given a little pot flower as a memento which was a nice touch.

« Stayed on a loverly snow night »

Modern and spacous rooms, hotel is very close to motorway and 15 minutes from Sheffield town center, staff could not have been more helpful.I have two small issues, first was the dinner served with the room booking was very limited, I just wanted a nice harty meal, I wished I had'nt book with dinner and got dinner seperate the burger looked fantastic. second was the bed in the room - horrible, saggy matteress well pasts its prime so I did't sleep well, overall I would come back to this hotel again but would not stay in the same room

    2
    « Disappointed »

Good Points; - Close proximity to motorway - Efficient reception staff Bad Points; - Shower in bathroom . Why do some hotels try to be all fancy ? This room had a wet room. I would call it a ? dribble room? difficult to get wet in the shower here! - restaurant food . Apparently the meal in the picture is lamb ? Looks disgusting and tasted the same - £16 for the pleasure. Not for me I'm afraid.

    « Lovely birthday lunch »

Just had lunch today at Aston Hall restaurant and we were highly pleased. It was for a 60th birthday -6 adults and 2 small children- and we weren't disappointed. Everyone was very welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. The service was top class as was rhe food . We all had the 3 course menu and it was delicious - pleased with the children's menu too. All staff were very discreet and professional . We thoroughly enjoyed it Thankyou so much . We will be back and will recommend to others

« Never will we stay here again! »

My family and were frequent visitors of the hotel as my wife is originally from the area. We used to stay with the hotel each time we visited her family (probably four or five times this year). We had noticed over recent month's that the service has gradually deteriorated over time. However, we have always stayed here and it is a stone's throw from my Wife's Mother's house so it was convenient. During our last visit (Christmas) we experienced the worst stay we have ever had at the hotel. This matter, although denting our confidence in the hotel, could have been resolved either during our stay or even shortly after. However, it was not dealt with appropriately and I feel that others should be aware. You will see from my other reviews that I am very fair and not a 'serial complainer'. I do however feel the need to voice my frustration when receiving a lack of service or care. List of issues experienced during our two night stay include: - Upon check in at 7pm (my children's bed times) we arrived at our room to find no cot and no z bed (as booked). Although the lady from reception was extremely apologetic and spent the best part of an hour trying to source them. By this time our children had found their second winds and were awake until after 10pm. - The floor in the room was dirty, which isn't great when you have a baby crawling around. We were too busy worrying about the beds to complain about this and we assumed the mess would be vacuumed in the morning. It was not. The rooms floor remained completely filthy for the entire duration of our stay. - The sheets on my sons z bed were covered in what looked like sick stains. We of course requested these to be changed, which the receptionist sourced for us and my wife put on the Z bed as I erected the cot. - The bath plug did not fit the bath. The receptionist gave us another plug but this was also not a fit. This meant we were unable to bath our children properly during our stay. Showering a baby can be tricky when you aren't used to the water temperature and pressure. - On the first evening we used one of the drinks glasses in the room to give my son some crisps in (from a share bag). Obviously it was greasy afterwards so we left it out to be cleaned or replaced by housekeeping. The following night, when we got back to the room, we found that the glass had simply been turned back over on the tray - Unwashed. - None of the biscuits were replaced on the second day. This is a small point but my 5yr old always looks forward to seeing what biscuits are on the tray during our stays and this is just another thing to add to the list. I'm listing it not to be picky (I wouldn't complain about this had it been the only thing not to happen during our stay) but to provide a complete overview of our visit. - The breakfast on both days was served luke warm (at best). The food has gone completely down hill since the hotel stopped taking cooked food breakfast orders. They now operate a buffet which is badly run, infrequently replenished, and offers little choice to guests. - On the first morning I requested a fried egg (as they don't provide these generally - only scrambled) and was told that one would be bought to the table and that I should be served up the rest of my breakfast and make a start on eating it so that it didn't get cold (colder). The fried egg, albeit a very good one!, arrived after I had eaten everything else on my plate - some 15 minutes later! - I requested a fried egg the following morning and was advised initially, after the waitress went into the kitchen to request one for me, that it wouldn't be possible. I accepted this, although mentioned that I was provided with one the day before. Whilst waiting five minutes for the bacon to be replenished, I was told the chef had misunderstood the original request (Can I have a fried egg please?) and that I could in fact have one. By the time I got the egg my family had already eaten their breakfasts and my daughter wanted out of her high chair. We were under the impression, from the receptionist's comments during the saga upon our arrival, that we were having our first night taken off the bill for all the trouble caused, which we accepted. However, during check-out we were advised that it was only my sons z bed that was being offered as a gesture of good will. Frankly, one of our two nights provided complimentary would be the least I would have expected given the lack of service we received. I requested to speak to a manager at this time (checkout) but was advised that no duty manager was on duty? The same as our first evening when the receptionist was the only person going out of her way to try and help us get settled in. No Duty Manager would certainly explain the issues we experienced, and the general service levels of the hotel, if employees are being left to their own devices. We were then told that we had no choice but to pay the full amount, as nobody could authorise anything (partial refund/refund) for us. We were given an email address for the Duty Manager to voice our issues and were led to believe that a refund would be offered. In this email I listed the issues (as above), what we believed we were being offered (one night refunded), what we were offered (a complimentary z-bed), and advised that if we didn't receive at least one of our nights reimbursed as an acknowledgement of the issues experienced, we would not stay again. I also advised that if I didn't believe our complaint was being taken seriously, that I would leave a review on Trip Advisor. At this time, meeting our request would have been acknowledgment that the hotel had taken the complaint seriously, and had every intension of dealing with it (internally) to give us the confidence to return knowing these things would put right. Despite my request for a partial refund (as what we felt was a fair solution given the issues listed above) David Fort, Duty Manager, had other ideas. Mr Fort emailed me back with a generic apology and offered my family a favourable rate to return. When I responded to advise that this was not how any customer should be treated, never mind regular ones, confirming that we wanted a partial (one night's stay) refund in order to restore some faith, Mr Fort declined this request. At this stage, I forwarded our email chain to Best Western (BW) Head Office twice receiving no response. It appears that BW have no respect for its customers either with not even the courtesy of an acknowledgment. Eventually, some week or so later, David Fort responded to my response to his initial offer email where I had advised that we would certainly never stay with the hotel again and that the only reason I paid the bill was because a duty manager was not available (apparently) assuring that I would not have been paying it if Mr Fort, or another manager, had been there to take my complaint in person upon check-out. This time, Mr Fort offered us a £50.00 refund (approx half a night's stay). Mr Fort advised this was his final offer and to be honest, I had had enough of wasting my valuable time trying to make him see reason. Therefore, I accepted the offer and the money was transferred into our account after a few more days of waiting and chasing. Despite the fact that we have spent literally hundreds of pounds (ourselves) staying at the hotel over the years and my Wife's family often meeting us to dine and for drinks, Mr Fort/BW believed that a £50.00 refund was an acceptable resolution. - Completely short sited Duty Manager - Deteriorating standards (in need of decoration) - Extremely poor customer service (from 90% of staff) - Unclean - Poor food We will be staying at a premier Inn in future.

    « Quiet break »

Hotel is really nice. Stayed for 1 night to relax with a friend. "double" room was 2 single beds pushed together. Room phone didnt work, so had to walk back to reception for room service. Small things but important all the same.

« Welcome rest and an idyllic setting »

Only booked due to the location and accessibility, what a pleasant surprise. Stunning building and greeted in a beautifully formal manner so missing these days. EXCEEDINGLY well appointed rooms with unusual (impracticable?) wet room shower / bathroom. An experience not to be repeated but there are other options. Staff lovely and welcoming in the bar and restaurant, pleasant evening snack. Breakfast was an event and suggest you go for a run first to build your appetite. Great produce presented well, perfectly cooked to order and enough for two! Left with a rested sleep and fully recharged for a long drive home... thank you all!

    « Overnight stay for a wedding »

Excellent hotel, Wedding function went smoothly and was just perfect for the size of party. Meal and buffet were both good standard and the bar service excellent. Room was great - go for one of the more expensive named rooms they are large and well equipped. Ours had a bath in the room in addition to the en-suite. Breakfast cooked to order and very nice.

    « Better than expected »

Hotel is close to motorway but doesn't feel like a transit hotel. Check in was friendly. Room a good size and clean and well equipped. Bar staff efficient and dining room staff well trained. Food much better than expected. No complaints, would stay there again if passing.

We needed a venue for a small (20 covers) family occasion so with the help of Tripadvisor we chose Aston Hall. Everything was perfect, the room, the food and service were spot on. Would highly recommend.

« Small room, big breakfast »

Had a night here on the way to some meetings in the area. Arrived late so didn't use the restaurant or bar. Given a ground room in the red brick outbuilding to the right of the main building, it had a name but forgotten it already! Room facilities all good, very quiet too. Breakfast was really good. Will stay here again.

« Great Gala Party Night! »

Had a brilliant stay on New Years Eve. Our room was really good with a modern bathroom. We found everything to be of a very high standard. The Gala Night went very well and staff were exceptional and worked non-stop to get the food out as quickly as possible. They were helpful and friendly. We ordered a drinks package and this was on our table when we arrived. All in all a very professional service and the meal was excellent, with large portions provided. The singer was also very good, as was the DJ and there was a great party atmosphere. Well done everyone!

    « Sunday Lunch »

Met up with family and friends for Sunday Lunch. This was our 3rd visit and once again the food and service were superb. We used to frequent a different Best Western hotel but this one is superior. If you're looking for a lovely meal in good surroundings you can't get better. Thanks once again Aston Hall Hotel.

I attended a Christmas party here on 22nd December with a few friends. The hotel is stunning! We stayed over night the room was huge and very very clean. The whole service was at a very high standard food was serviced quickly I loved the whole atmosphere. « The Aston is a good hotel »

Having stayed at The Aston many times I see a great improvement in the service. The rooms are always spotless and good. Last time we stayed it was during the Christmas period 2017. When we arrived I was told there was no breakfast service in the dining room and limited lunch and evening meals. Having explained we had guests coming they immediately changed plans and this and all our meals were catered for in a very professional manner. Nothing was too much trouble. Well done Aston, our stay was great. We will be back again.

« Friendly comfortable hotel in a good location »

Very friendly and helpful reception. Large comfortable room and bathroom. Nice view over the grounds of the hotel. We commented on a missing chair, a replacement arrived quickly. Good restaurant - excellent food and service. Aston is a pleasant little village just off the M1, easy to find. Breakfast - the staff, so good at dinner time, seemed rushed and occasionally forgetful, even though the room was not too busy.

« Great room but terrible breakfast! »

Lovely hotel, really nice rooms but breakfast was just terrible! queing up for a less than average breakfast was not fun. Not even a great selection. By the time we had made our way to another room the breakfast was cold anyway.

    « Christmas Party Function »

We attended your Christmas party function last night (22nd December) and just wanted to leave some feedback. The whole evening was simply excellent, friendly staff, very well organised food service with a special mention to the Manager keeping everything on track table by table. The food was also excellent, with attention given to my wife's gluten free diet requirements throughout the service particularly with the chocolate brownie dessert. Thank you for a great night.

    « Noise wedding guests »

We stayed for one night. A pleasant welcome and nice rooms with all the usual amenities. Despite the size of the Hall the hotel seemed quite small, with a small bar and restaurant for only 30ish guests. We had a hearty dinner and retired to bed. We were awoken several times in the night by noise wedding guests going to there room at full volume. This started around midnight and finished at 05.25. Shame this spoiled what was a welcome break.

Booked this hotel for a night away with my partner, I planned to propose to her during the trip, the hotel provided me with the Jazz room, which was absolutely perfect, there is not one thing I could complain about. Every member of staff I dealt with from the moment I booked to the moment I checked out were amazing, they catered for every thing I needed/requested. The proposal was a success, my fiance loved the room, in fact it was the best room she had ever stayed in, and was astounded with the service we received. I would like to give the majority of the credit to Chloe Wood from the reception, we were in contact from the day I booked and she went above and beyond to make sure the room was perfect for my proposal, and that everything was in place ready for the arrival. She is a credit to Ashton Hall.

Very Disappointed with the turkey in the lunch , seemed processed , very thin , lacking in taste .And not cut from a on the day cooked turkey . This would be the reason for not returning next year.Expected much more for the price . The rest of the meal was enjoyable , customer service excellent , nice surroundings and atmosphere

« Good ... but lack of important information »

The Best Western Plus Aston Hall Hotel on the edge of Sheffield which dates from 1772 is a beautifully restored hotel that has retained many of the original features of a splendid buiding set in pleasant garden surrounds. The original Grade 2* listed building still has an original mosaic tiled floor and many original features. The website explains "we have a selection of 52 individually designed bedrooms with complimentary WIFI throughout the hotel". What it does not explain until you have pressed the 'confirm your booking' on the website is that not all floors are accessible by lift. I have problems with coming down stairs ... I can go up them relatively easily but going down is very painful and difficult at the moment, so, before I even saw the warning about lifts, I requested a room on the ground floor. The day of my stay came and I arrived at reception and checked in. My request for 'a room on the ground floor' had been honoured but it was explained that I should take my luggage back out into my car (on a very stormy afternoon) and drive round to the back of the hotel. This I did, and found my room 'on the ground floor' through a card locked security door - it was really ground floor minus one compared to Reception which was on the ground floor on the front of the building. My room was a very spacious, spotlessly clean and well appointed, with a rather splendid en-suite shower room. The room had full air conditioning which soom brought the room up to the temperature I enjoy. Having booked a table for dinner later on, I thought I should investigate how to find the restaurant. I had been told, when I checked, in that it was close to reception, next to the bar ... so I set out to find it. I came out of my room and looked for signs ... there were none. I went to the lift, close to the outside door I had come in through, but even inside the lift, the descriptions of what was on each floor did not mention either 'restaurant' or 'reception'. I returned to my room and telephoned reception ... not an easy task as it rang for ages and then it was answered by a 'voice' which gave me the option of '1. directions to the hotel', or '2. continue holding'. I pressed '2' and eventually it was answered. I asked how and where I should find the restaurant. I was told 'go up the stairs to the next floor'. I explained that I could not find the stairs and that there was no sign pointing to where they might be. I explained I knew where the lift was and was told to take the lift to the first floor, to turn right and go through four doors and then down the staircase to reception. I followed the instructions and came to a rather splendid staircase and struggled down it to eventually find the restaurant. I looked at the menu and retraced my steps to my room. I later decided that the long and confusing path to and from the restaurant with the 'spectacular staircase' was too much for me on a cold, stormy winters night, so I settled for room service. The meal that I ordered was very good, so I decided also to order 'room service' breakfast, both of which added an extra £5 surcharge each ... but I decided it was worth it, given the distance and the complicated route from my room to the restaurant. Had the fact that reception and the restaurant were in a different parts of the building, an extension, not easliy accessible by lift, I would have chosen another hotel for my stay in Sheffield. The lack of such information on the webside where I made my booking was both disappointing and meant that the hotel description was both inacurate and misleading. I hope the Best Western 'group' and the Aston Hall Hotel might see their way to making this access problem more clear on their introductory web pages. My room was excellent as was the food, but I will not be staying again at the Best Western Plus Aston Hall Hotel on the edge of Sheffield.

    « CHRISTMAS PARTY NIGHT »

We all had a fabulous time at the party night on Friday. The evening was a complete success, everyone in our party has said how professional and helpful all the staff were. The service was impeccable, we couldn't have asked for more. Everything went very smoothly, all who stayed over said the rooms were very comfortable and the breakfast was superb. I would appreciate it if you could pass our thanks on to all the staff involved. We would really like to attend again next year, could you let us know when we would be able to provisionally book, preferably for a Saturday night.

    « Relaxing weekend »

We stayed in Belassis which is a suite in Darcy building. The room is enormous and absolutely stunning with a lantern style roof light to watch the stars as you're laid in bed. The bathroom was beautiful, with a free standing roll topped bath and a shower with led lighting. The bed was gigantic too and really really comfortable. The room had everything you could possibly need, even a dining table and comfy chairs, and we really appreciated the coffee machine in addition to the usual kettle etc. There was a wedding the night we stayed but we heard nothing from our room, it was so peaceful. We enjoyed hearing the church clock chiming (don't worry it doesn't chime through the night). As I mentioned there was a wedding, but all the staff took time for us too and we never had a problem getting a drink at the bar. We ate in the restaurant and again this was a nice relaxing experience. The food and the service were excellent. After a fantastic nights sleep we headed for breakfast which was really good quality and service was excellent. We had chosen to stay that night as there was a Christmas Fayre the next morning which was really big with lots of variety of stalls. It was hectically busy but very well organised. We had an amazing weekend and felt thoroughly relaxed and de-stressed at the end of it. PERFECT!! This was our 4th stay at Aston Hall. We have stayed twice in the newer part, once in the main house and this time in Darcy House. I like that all the rooms are different, Darcy House and the newer rooms are my favourites though. Thank you Aston Hall. We will certainly let see you again!!

Very busy, fortunately staff on hand to help with parking so got a spot straight away. Beautiful Christmas tree outside entrance was a lovely welcome as was the band in the foyer. Lots of stalls in the main function room. Carols playing, mulled wine, hot pulled pork sandwiches and lots more. Santa's grotto for a realistic £1:50 Well organised and great atmosphere! Loved it :)

Aston hall is a fantastic place to stay, staff are super friendly and are very helpful, in particular a lady called Chloe on reception. I'm currently feeding my daughter but was staying over without her and they were very obliging when it came to storing items for me in the fridge and freezer! Can't recommend this hotel enough! Also the Christmas fair was fantastic today!

    « Very Dissapointed »

Looks great from the outside but is old ok the inside and smells old too... Staff was nice.. and they tried hard to satisfy my participants and me... But lunch was gross and served in the meeting room as buffet... breakfast took way too long... the seminar room was cold and not very inviting... The room however was ok... clean and the bathroom spacious and clean as well... The hotel has a lot of potential but for some reason I feel they aren't fully aware of it... The dinner that was served on one evening was ok... but nothing outstanding... Further it's just bad when your emails aren't being answered and you have to call a million times to get an invoice... So unfortunately I won't be coming back...

    « 1920's Wedding Day »

We would like to sincerely thank all of the staff at Aston Hall for a wedding day made so special by the service provided by the staff on the day. Too many names to mention but all of our guests made comment on how special the day was as a result of the professional service provided by everyone on the day. A special thank you to Rebecca who provided both a professional and friendly service, her attention to detail is second to none. Tom and Thomas, from managing and executing the days timings to perfection (whilst hosting a tribute night which I have to say did not impact on our wedding day at all) to relaxing friendly lessons on napkin designs while preparing the marquee for the day. If you are looking for a venue with staff who will go above and beyond your expectations then I would highly recommend you speak to the team at Aston Hall. Andrew & Samantha Calton

« Way better than expected »

This was a last minute booking, we were visiting the area and decided at the last minute to stay over. On arrival the car park was full as there was a wedding on so we had to park way round the back and had to walk all the way round the building. We checked in and told our room was in the west wing which meant going up stairs all the way down the corridor down the stairs to the ground floor, basically back to where we had parked our car. The room was modern and large with a large en-suite bathroom, it was spotlessly clean, the light bulb in the bedside lamp wasn't working but that was a minor niggle We decided to go for a drink in the bar and eat in the restaurant, All the staff were friendly and they were busy with a wedding and a private party but they still paid attention to us We did not have breakfast as we left too early I would recommend this hotel

I recently had the honour of being best man at my friends wedding at this venue. The building it self and the surrounding gardens are well presented. The staff are all very friendly and helpfull, doing everything they could to make the run smoothly. There were a couple of glitchs some but these were dealt with smoothly and quickly and were no fault of the staff on hand . .technical gremlins. Drinks are pretty much priced as you would expect at above average but the selection was of a good standard. The food we had was of a excellent standard, the guys in the kitchen really know there stuff.

Came to Aston Hall for the weekend from Northamptonshire for my nieces wedding !! We booked in the afternoon before , and was pleasantly surprised with the hotel and the gardens ! Our room was a good size, and it was very clean and comfortable! Our son booked in the day before the wedding but they were a bit disappointed with their room (a small double) not a problem reception changed rooms for them after a phone call !! We all ate in the restaurant in the evening and no one had any complaints the food was lovely !! Great expectations for the wedding the next day ! The day of the wedding was lovely, the room for the service was very nice and the wedding venue set out very nice ! The food was lovely again no complaints, the staff coped very well and seemed friendly ! Breakfast was a nice time with the family meeting to reflect on a lovely day !! All in all a very pleasant stay in this hotel , it might be part of a chai but it remains very individual !! Being stonemasons and used to restoring old properties , this one is in very good taste.

Stayed here Saturday night. We stayed in the tempest suite. Wow what a fantastic room. The room was huge with a massive bed a large double shower and a great big bath. Breakfast was ok. Our waiter brought out the wrong drinks twice and two racks of toast which we didn't ask for but all was good. Would defiantly recommend

« One of the best hotels I've ever stayed at »

The hotel looks like a country manor from the outside and is surrounded by picturesque gardens. It's no less elegant on the inside, the rooms are absolutely huge and are very tastefully decorated. The complimentaries you get are top class too, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, shower gel, tea, coffee and biscuits. None of which are the typical cheap stuff that some hotels provide.

« Spacious Rooms, all the amenities, solid food. »

We stayed at the Aston Hall Hotel as part of a wedding. We only got to spend a little amount of time in the room, but we were able to experience enough to know we want to go back. Location - GREAT location off of the M1. Just enough into the charming village to be quiet, but just two turns off of the exit. Hotel - Charming original building, bursting with window seats, a grand staircase and smaller rooms off of the ground floor. The hotel has been expanded, however, making for a bit of a confusing floorplan, and a bit of a maze to some of the rooms. Once you know the way, however, it is easy, and we loved walking through the hotel and past the luxury rooms - all of which have names. The grounds are lovely as well and already turning autumn colours, which made it magical. The Room - We stayed in an executive room, which was the next price up from the lowest price - we were only sleeping there, so there was no need for anything else. Well I was pleasantly surprised at the size of our room! Of course, I was reminded that this is a Best Western, so the amenities and appointment of the bed are to American standards, which means an American King-sized bed, a hair dryer, iron and ironing board, safe, all as standard, in a good sized room with an abundance of wardrobe and drawer space. Of course, there were tea and coffee facilities in the room as well. Breakfast was included with the price but we had to leave early (Breakfast started at 6:30am) so we couldn't stay. Oh! And whilst not the most amazing bed I've experienced - it was still fabulously comfortable! First time in a while I didn't wake up with back or neck pain! The bathroom was immaculate and well appointed, including a towel heater and a bathmat that was clean and folded on a shelf, so that you could place it yourself, when needed. I struggled a bit with the shampoo and body wash, in getting it open but it was fine. The only two comments I have are that the lighting needs to be a bit better, and there should be some sort of extra lighting around the mirror at the sink. The Wedding - Lovely set up overall - Most of the decorations were set up by the family, but the set up of the table and chair covers in the tent and the ceremony room were fine. However, my recommendation is...please iron the table covers. They ruined a few shots, as it made it look messy. a quick steam in place will do wonders. As we moved to the bar after the ceremony, we were offered a punch or a beer. The punch was delicious. Once the photos were taken we were able to move in to the tent and I can't fault the staff - they did very well with food, drink and working the event itself. They were attentive and invisible at the same time - the perfect combination! I do wish they had a bit more choice of spirits at the bar, so that I didn't have to go to the main bar. But, hey...I was able to charge the drinks to my room, so that sat fine with me! All in all - A definite "RECOMMEND"!

Recently stopped here for work for 3 nights. My room was in the original part of the hotel and the room was massive. Staff very friendly, and the bar food was excellent. When working away I like to get out but there is nothing of note in walking distance so bear that in mind

    « Wonderful place! »

My husband and I celebrated our marriage here on Friday 29th September and loved every second! The whole team made our day run smoothly and couldn't do enough for us. Dave, the duty manager thought of everything and was always on hand to offer support and little finishing touches. His introduction of us as husband and wife and master of ceremonies role was brilliant. The food was beautiful and it was commented on by most guests as being the best food they had eaten at a wedding. The evening buffet (hot roast pork sandwiches and roast potatoes) was delicious. The penthouse suite was lovely for our evening stay and breakfast the next morning was plentiful and tasty. I only wish we could do it all over again!! Thank you for making our special day the most amazing, memorable day.

« Weddings take precedence over hotel guests »

My husband had booked us into a superior room for an overnight treat and as this was by no means cheap I was really looking forward to our stay. Unfortunately, this did not live up to expectation. On initially entering the room I was quite delighted, a huge room with quality furnishings and lots of characterful, sash windows however, on closer inspection really not up to standard. There was an abundance of flies in the room climbing all over the windows with a number of dead ones adorning the net/voile curtains, the kettle had not been emptied, there were no bedside lamps, the divan bed-base had no valance sheet and one of the voile panels was hanging off the curtain rail. For such a large room the en-suite was quite small hence there was no bath, there was the beginnings of mould on the shower grouting and the toilet seat was broken! On the positive side, the shower worked well as did the room amenities. We had lunch in the bar which was actually very enjoyable as was the evening meal taken in the restaurant however, breakfast was a bit of a joke, we were unable to be seated in the restaurant as there were no tables available, (there were vacant tables but they had not been cleaned/cleared) so we were shown to another room, down a corridor and through reception. As this is a buffet type breakfast we then had to return to the restaurant and carry our food from the main restaurant through reception, bypassing guests who were grouped in the reception area. The breakfast ingredients looked to be of a good quality but unfortunately, they were all cold and therefore inedible, apart from the beans! My husband had requested a couple of freshly fried eggs as the examples on the buffet looked well past their best, when the eggs arrived at our table they were stone cold, replacement eggs were requested and 15 minutes later we were still waiting for them! On checking out we were asked about our stay and the receptionist could not have been more apologetic, a discount on breakfast was taken from the bill but this was not a substantial amount and the overall bill did not justify or reflect the overall quality or enjoyment of our stay. I must commend the housekeeping staff on their manners and politeness as all housekeeping staff that we encountered during our stay, took the time to greet us and interact in a pleasant and cheerful manner, shame that the same cannot be said of the other hotel staff. Overall this was a very disappointing stay and I think it was quite obvious that the wedding guests were certainly taking precedence over the hotel guests.

Really enjoyable night. Had a really informative session by the guy from Sir Robin of Locksley and got to try their gin in different ways - I actually learned something while getting nicely sozzled. The evening was slightly let down by the food taking an absolute age to be served and the room itself being uncomfortably cold for large parts of the evening.

    « Lovely hotel »

We stayed here for one night for a friends wedding. I was very impressed with the hotel in general. The reception staff were very helpful and courteous. The room was excellent, spotlessly clean and larger than the average hotel room. A super shower with endless hot water and a very comfortable bed. The only disappointment was the breakfast, although there was plenty on offer it seemed quite disorganised and the waiter got quite cross if anyone did anything for themselves, e.g. got some coffee or tried to serve themselves hot food. However all in all it was a good hotel.

« Birthday Celebration Afternoon Tea »

I booked an afternoon tea for my Aunties 92nd birthday at a cost of £12.95 pp, 6 of us attended and from arrival to departure everyone & everything was great. Earlier in the day I brought in table decorations and a member of staff kindly offered to dress the table for me. We were served in the dining room with 2 afternoon tea stands which held an assortment of finger sandwiches, 2 scones (fruit & plain) each with a choice of butter, jam & cream, mini Eaton mess in a glass & mini chocolate cake, carrot cake & truffles, it was well presented and was very yummy. We were offered a choice of tea or filter coffee and this was replenished as required. I had forgotten to ask for vegetarian sandwiches for one guest but this was remedied quickly and without fuss by the staff. We were unable to eat all the sweet items and staff kindly wrapped them for us to take home. It was a lovely afternoon in lovely surroundings and would highly recommended. Sorry I did not obtain your names but many thanks to the chef and staff working on Wednesday 20th September.

Stayed at this hotel for one night - wish it were longer. Hotel looks impressive as I parked in the good sized car park. Helpful reception staff got me signed in quickly and organised some food from room service as I had arrived far too late for a meal in the restaurant. Room was comfy with everything I needed for a comfortable stay. Breakfast was good and quickly served. Can recommend this hotel.

« Great location, service average »

Lovely location, beautiful hotel, Good food. The service of some of the waiting staff let it down though. Their heart didnt seem in it for some of them, some of the waitresses seem distracted and spaced out. On the first night I asked if I could have desert brought to my room and checked whether it was suitable as I'd be going our for a while beforehand. They said the mint brownie was fine. After my walk, 45 mins later, it wasn't at my room. I queried and then they brought it (it had ice cream). Not a big deal but some of the restaurant seemed half-hearted. My bill was wrong and the lady said she'd correct it. I assumed this meant her coming back with the right bill for me to sign. I sat for 5 minutes to realise this wasn't the case and the bill would be adjusted for me to pay when I checked out. On checking out the next day the bill wasn't corrected. Great venue -though my double bed was two singles pushed together one of which was very saggy-but not feeling it from some of the staff!

    « Great stay »

Attended a wedding here recently. My first disappointment was the late check in (3pm) And the wedding was at 3. Told later that I could have had an early check in at 12pm for an extra £20! Having said that I stayed in a beautiful room That was spptlessly clean. Food at the reception was very good. As was breakfast next morning. All the staff very pleasant. Only other disappointment was not many bar staff on at the reception so always a wait to be served. All together a wonderful stay in a beautiful hall.

« Wedding amazing, hotel could do better »

We stayed at the hotel on Sunday for our friends wedding. We arrived early for our hair and make up session. We asked at reception if we could check in early however because we had not arranged an early check in, we were told we could not check in until 3pm. Fair enough however the delay very of this policy could have been said with a little bit more friendliness and An understanding of the situation. The two ladies on reception were very stern, unfriendly and short of being very rude. No smiles and there was no way they were going to try and accommodate us. We checked with them around 1.30 to see if any rooms were available to be told with a huff and a puff, Check in is at 3 !!!. I appreciate weddings aw a busy time for any hotel but they didn't seem to have a plan B to help customers who were struggling in each other's rooms to get changed. Luckily some of our party had stayed the night before and we could use their rooms. With the wedding at 3, check in not availbke till 3, is not ideal. Lovely rooms, lovely venue, food was lovely at the reception, breakfast this morning not so good. The reception staff let the hotel down, the majority of our party commented on the poor service and unfriendliness of these two women. However big thumbs up to Diane who was on reception on the evening shift. Smiley, friendly and very helpful

« Amazing rooms and beds are a dream! »

Really lovely hotel with beautiful rooms. Stayed over 1 night due to the wedding celebrations. We have really enjoyed it apart from the breakfast which is really poor. It looks like a buffet but it's staff who controls food and if you want some more of what you already had they say they don't do second takes. What? I paid for breakfast buffet!! All staff very miserable with one exception 'cleaners'...friendly and always smiling every time you walk past!. Other than that it is a beautiful hotel especially for a wedding.

    « Amazing wedding »

Thank you for a lovely stay. We were wedding guests and thoroughly enjoyed ourselfs. When we arrived for canapes and drinks we were greeted by red carpet and I think the guy was called dave sorry might be wrong but either way he was lovely went above and beyond to help all wedding guests. Everything just looked beautiful. The room was massive we stayed in tang I think that's what it was called. Loved the big bed and the bath and shower were to die for. We didn't have towels for my little boy but told them and within 10mins more had been put into the room. We couldn't hear anyone shouting even as the wedding continued. Rooms are hot but fans are provided and that was enough. 100 percent recommend. Thank you to everyone. Oh and breakfast was really nice aswell big tables so we could all sit together. Few minor issues we didn't have any sugar in the room. Also was waiting a long time in between courses for the wedding. Also maybe get some microphones for speeches as couldn't hear them very well and we was next to top table. Like I said minor issues or more constructive criticism. Thank you again what a perfect weekend. Your all amazing

« The Amazing Wedding of our Besties Joy & David Hallam 17/8/17 »

The hotel staff were very accommodating by letting us dress up the Marquee the day before the wedding. Our friends - the Bride & Groom booked the Bridal Suite the evening before (and the evening of the wedding!!) so i was blessed to be able to share some time with the bride in the room helping her dress, calm her nerves etc up to the point she was ready to walk down the isle. (The boys had been banned since lunch time). Everything went like a dream and the hotel manager 'David' was an excellent pre wedding advisor to both parties and his skills as Maitre D and made sure that everything was in place and it all went smooth -5* service. The Grounds for the outside wedding at the bandstand was so beautiful and as the sun shone, beautiful memories were made. The only reason I have marked down is because the Bridal suite windows were so difficult to open and the room was so hot. Our makeup was sliding off our faces! We got help to open them but they wouldn't stay open unless we wedged something in them. As this is a bridal suite it is important that the temperature is controlled to it best for the big day. (the fan supplied was not enough. Please consider air conditioning for summer days/nights). My husband & I booked a standard room to stay over on the evening of the wedding, it was lovely and comfortable, but again was so warm when we checked in at 3pm. We closed the curtains and left the fan supplied on. When we settled into the room that evening it was still too hot. We couldn't open the window (again) and spent a very uncomfortable evening in the room. (Can I add that the day was only 21 degrees max here) Breakfast was excellent. Just what you need after an evening of celebrations, fun and laughter. Congratulations Joy King & David Hallam - Now Mr & Mrs Hallam somewhere in Italy.

« Lots of things to recommend this hotel but some negatives »

Stayed for one night as we were attending a family event at the hotel. Arrived at 2.50 p.m. after a long drive. Told check-in was 3.00 p.m. Receptionist went on to complain how busy they had been that morning. When I said I wanted to check-in she made a phone call and we were allowed to check-in. We were delighted with our room. It was just fabulous- really large with glorious views over the open countryside, spacious comfortable bed. The downside was that it was up 2 flights of stairs ( there didn't seem to be a lift). So this might be worth checking if you find stairs difficult and can't carry your case upstairs (we were given no offer of assistance). Breakfast staff were busy with the previous night's wedding party when we went to the breakfast room in the morning. We appeared to be invisible to them for quite a while. When we managed to get some attention breakfast was ample and well cooked. The decor of the hotel is gorgeous both inside and out. The staff and food at the function we attended were fine. Easy to get to from the motorway. Overall I would recommend this hotel. Maybe they need to increase staffing levels at busy times.

    « Wedding Visit »

We stayed at the venue last night for a wedding . The venue is beautiful from the outside and I was greeted with a nice welcome and promptly served . The room was nicely decorated and had two fans which was a nice touch if you were sharing . The conference room was set up well with tables and a good selection of food. We had a lovely Buffet and a big roast the food was lovely and the staff were prompt behind the bar. Beautiful wedding setting.

« Weekend break in a lovely hotel »

We stayed for 2 nights to recharge our batteries and to chill out as in the middle of a house move. The room we stayed in was huge with a lovely en- suite bathroom with a separate bath. There was everything you needed in this suite. The room was very clean and the maid cleaned our room every morning even though we were only staying for 2 nights. After a long journey we had a bar meal which I couldn't fault. I have to thank the manager and his staff for their great customer service as the hotel was very busy as it had 2 Weddings on the Friday and 2 on the Saturday but they were all calm and curtious throughout our stay. I would also like to thank Ali our breakfast waiter as nothing was too much trouble for him. A few places worth a visit by car are Tickhill and their are some lovely Historic Houses wth lovely gardens if your interested. We have returned home fully recharged thanks to our stay in a lovely hotel.

    « Wedding venue,short stay »

Stayed here for 3 nights for a wedding, the rooms were more than adequate for 2 adults. The staff were all great and professional and the wedding was well organization was very good. Evening food was supposed to be bar meals but was above the standard of so me restaurants. Only down point was the bar area was small if there was a lot of people there but staff managed 2 weddings well, no hesitation in recommending Aston Hall for a wedding or a short break

« Nice hotel - Details need attention »

Stayed 4 days while attending a local event. The hotel is beautifully situated, very clean and with friendly, courteous staff. We dined one night and were directed to the bar to have a drink and view the menu. The drinks came, the menus didn't. The single bar man was taking orders for bar food and having to physically take them through to the restaurant resulting in queues for drinks in the bar. Other people there were complaining about the time between receiving menus and having someone take their orders. At one time during the meal the bar man and the restaurant manager were both serving at tables despite their being plenty of restaurant staff so something is wrong with the training and organisation. At breakfast none of the tables had teaspoons. We asked for marmalade with our toast but it never came though other tables had some. Having said all that the food for both dinner and breakfast was beautifully cooked when it arrived. We informed reception that we had a bulb out but it didn't get replaced. Details that really should be easy to sort out but would we stay again - definitely.

« Amazing, fantastic staff, rooms, food, Highly recommend. »

Had our wedding at Aston Hall and stayed the night prior and night of wedding. The staff were absolutely amazing, couldn't do more to help. The food is superb and the rooms are very spacious and spotlessly clean. Would highly recommend as both a wedding venue or just a night away. Thankyou Aston Hall x

« Most romantic wedding venue in a humble city »

We came here for a wedding, it was a fantastic venue for wedding, staff services were executed politely and efficiently. Thank you for the management on my family behalf. We will recommend this place to our friends for sure.

« Comfortable room great views »

Stayed at Aston hall for a wedding we were attending, the room was very large, there was heating if you wanted it or a fan if it got o hot, as we were going to a wedding I needed to iron a few things that got creased in the car, in the room was a steam iron 10/10 and an ironing board, the views are magnificent, the food is very good, it was a very easy comfortable stay.

« Lovely room, good service »

Very happy with our stay. The only negative was a noisy wedding party on the terrace below our room windows until late at night! The restaurant staff were very helpful and served us from the bar menu in the restaurant as the bar ws crowded with wedding guests. I suppose they have a lot of weddings at Aston Hall as it is a good function venue.

    « Nice Hotel »

We recently had 5 nights at Aston Hall , it is a really nice Hotel, in a great area with amazing grounds. The rooms were good the breakfast was great, as was the bar, housekeeping was very helpful ,we had no complaints about the hotel and would return, our only complaint was, a friend of ours came to the hotel one afternoon looking for us, the receptionist was very rude to her, and told her that there was nobody with our surname staying at the hotel Otjer than that great al the restaurant staff were great.

« Great Room; Lovely Breakfast »

First of all, despite the rush of 30 people coming in to check-in at the same time, the receptionist, Diane, was very professional, friendly and accommodating. However, there was another wedding party situated in the reception area; where they were having pictures, which made it a little awkward when trying to check-in. This could have been prepared for in advance considering people would be checking in at 3pm. The room and en-suite (standard) were lovely; very clean and comfortable! Definitely worth the money for a great night's sleep. There was plenty of choice for breakfast; you could either choose the continental option (cereal etc) or the cooked breakfast and continental option. The food was delicious. In spite of this, I thought that the service wasn't the best at breakfast time; the staff seemed to be very unorganised and some people's breakfasts got mixed up. Overall, we were happy with our stay and would return again; I just think that some things could have been organised more professionally.

« Lovely location, friendly hotel; great spot for a meeting »

Used the lounge area for 1:1 meetings over 4 separate days. Aston Hall is a nice venue, with a pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff, - the lunchtime menu was good too! Its one of those country hotels that is hidden far enough away in the countryside to be quiet, but only just off the motorway and so easy to get to. Really helpful member of staff (Ali) in the bar/lounge area, made me feel welcome.

    « Frustrating Night »

Trip started well. Nice looking Hotel. Receptionist was very helpful on check in. She gave me instructions on how I get to the numbered rooms. There was no clue as to if I was heading in the right direction on the signage however. Nice enough room as well. Problems happened when I heard a regular drilling type noise every minute or so (It was the pipes I found out later). Unbearable by about 12:30am so went down to reception where the night porter did find me another room which was quieter. Fair enough so far. Found a problem and was fixed with a bit of inconvenience. This room, although an upgrade, there was a cracked loose tile in the bathroom floor, and the TV did not find show a channel. Prefered my old room in honesty without the sound effects. My disappointment was really on check out where the receptionist really did not want to engage with me, did not ask me how my stay was, did not question why I had 2 different room keys, in fact was not interested in dealing with anything at all - checked I had paid and that was all she was interested in. Perhaps I was grumpy because I did not have a good nights sleep, but the abruptness and disinterest in my stay was fairly shocking.

    « 80th birthday meal »

Just returned from a fabulous sunday lunch for my mum for her 80th birthday. We booked the Vantage suite for private dining for 31 guests. The service we received was excellent and the food delicious. All our guests were very impressed with the quality of food and the level of service. The room was lovely and we were able to use the outdoor space which was completely private. On arrival we were assisted with the decoration of the room as we had cake balloons etc. Nothing was too much trouble. Would definately recommend this hotel if you are looking for somewhere special to dine.

« Perfect fairytale wedding venue!! »

My Husband and I had our wedding reception here on the 30th April 2017 and everything was just perfect, I can't thank Aston Hall Hotel and staff enough! We had so many compliments about the food, venue and service. I would like to say a special thank you to Dave the area manager and Tom the wedding co-ordinator who were both amazing throughout the whole day, they truly delivered a spectacular wedding, the service was second to non. The evening reception was perfect, the buffet again received amazing reviews from our guests, the DJ was brilliant and played the whole list of music that we had given him. There is literally nothing negative I could say!! If you are thinking about having your wedding here, do it!! The Hotel is beautiful for photos inside and out on the grounds, the food was amazing and was brought out quickly to all my 110 guests, the Lagonda suite where our wedding Reception was held is a huge area, and very modern........so you don't have to worry about having a 1980's looking carpet clashing with your wedding theme! The location of the hotel was perfect for our family who travelled from all over, It's straight off Junction 31on the M1 and so easy to locate. There is a beautiful C of E Church next door to the Hotel which we were also married in, it shares the car park with Aston Hall so again is just perfect for a wedding party as you are on in one place and don't need to worry about travelling or wedding cars!! We had the most perfect day, and we will be going back to stay on our anniversary! So a massive thank you again to Aston Hall for making our special day everything we could have hoped for and more, keep up the good work!!!

    « Didn't achieve expectations »

After booking a hotel last minute for a weekend visit to Sheffield, this was the closest hotel to the town centre that wasn't fully booked, so we had no choice but to book. Looking at the photos and the reviews we thought we had struck gold, and were really looking forward to our overnight stay. Upon arrival, there was a wedding party all checking in, so understandably it wasn't a quick check in, but this did a very long time. The reception is very pretty and grand, receptionist told us our hotel was out of the main building and to the right. It took us a bit of wondering around the grounds to find it (no one accompanied us). Then we realised our room was in the tiny outbuilding. Room was awfully small and stuffy, it was not what we had expected from seeing the photos. Therefor thought the room was extremely over priced. Tiny bathroom needs ripping out, as it was covered in lime scale. The tap was especially disgusting (see photo) The bar also didn't live up to expectations, it is open 24 hours however and is reasonably priced (unlike the rooms) but draft is badly kept. Also found the receptionist when we checked out especially rude and unhelpful. All in all, a disappointing stay.

    « Prom Venue »

The school I work at had their prom here for the second year running this July and they never fail! We use the marquee to the side of the main building and it serves its purpose great. Lovely staff and great atmosphere, the children always come away with smiles on their faces and we are allowed to decorate the room up however we wish. Ideal for your school prom and would use again in the future! Also has a good drive and turning circle for longer or more obscure vehicles such as limousines. Outside is great for photos and the building itself provides a beautiful backdrop.

    « Wedding »

Attended for a wedding which was mostly ok, some staff a little unprofessional though otherwise set up etc good. Problem with the room, could hear very loud noise within, told reception that said maintenance would look, noise still there and waking us at frequent times throughout the night, not sure if it was coming from our bathroom/neighbouring rooms. Room itself ok and clean

« Stayed overnight for a wedding. The room was very nice »

Nice accommodation but the catering leaves a lot to be desired. The hotel is situated in some very nice grounds. There is an old church next door which is perfect for weddings. The catering is however not very good. I had a cooked meal where it was clear the food had been prepared much earlier leading to soggy wrinkled roast potatoes and a rubbery sweet posing as a soft chocolate cake.

    « Meals a plenty »

I have eaten at Aston Hall on numerous occasions and do not have a bad word for it. I've been for Sunday lunch, afternoon tea and the al a carte menu. Each and every visit I have found the staff to be extremely helpful and polite. The food I cannot recommend enough. I can be quite a fussy eater however I have never struggled to find a meal or disliked a meal I have chosen. I have attended with family and friends and again they have never had a bad meal whilst with me. The quality it clear and my favourite so far has to be the beef on the Sunday lunch. Cannot wait for my next visit!!

    « LOVELY PLACE »

Stayed here for one night following the wedding of our niece and her now husband at the church beside the hotel. The staff were very polite from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. The room we stayed in was large, with a massive walk in shower suite, excellent taste in decor and very comfortable with nothing out of place and as clean as could be. We had breakfast the following morning which was also nice with a choice of cereals, fruit, juice, and the full English as well with all the usual sides like toast, tea, coffee, etc. This place is set up for things like weddings etc so i expected nothing less to be honest. The only slight let down was quite a wait at times at the bar during the afternoon but would recommend for things like parties etc.

I stay here regularly for work and always get a warm welcome and a nice room. Some of the rooms are huge and definitely have that touch of luxury. Restaurant could do with a bit more atmosphere but the food it always good. A great place to stay.

« Could have been better. »

We stayed to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Pros: Nice room (but could have been better ? see below). Nice toiletries. Nice meal (but could have been better ? see below). Cons: Although nice, the meal could have been better ? the tuna was overcooked, as was the steak (requested ?blue?, received ?medium? cooked). The mattress needed replacing, there was a distinct ?dip? and ?roll down? to the centre, not good for guests like us, both of whom have bad backs. At least one new pillow (out of four provided) was needed ? if, when you lay a pillow over your arm, it forms a distinct ?U?, it's time to replace it. Curtains, although thick, lined and had a very good crossover, were hung on rings, which meant that the sun started streaming into the room above the curtains from approximately 5am. Noisy ? there was an argument going on and doors slamming over and over from about 4:45am, one of the arguing guests then stormed off to their car at approximately 5:05am and drove off in a storm of gravel. Semi-skimmed UHT milk provided ? that has a tainted taste, if skimmed UHT milk is used, that tastes the same as pasteurised milk (a point I raised in my review a year ago). One bath mat hung over the side of the bath in the bedroom ? another should be provided in the shower in the bathroom, the shower floor was slippy. I requested a poached egg for breakfast ? I would have had something else if I'd known that the chef couldn't cook poached eggs properly, the yolk is supposed to be runny, not hard-set. I expect better coffee from a hotel of this standard, it was bitter (a point I raised in my review a year ago). Noisy, inappropriate so-called ?background? music ? who wants a disco at breakfast? So, overall, a nice weekend, but, for the standard (and price!) of this hotel, it should have been better.

« Nice hotel, nice stay but pity about some of the guests behaviour »

The hotel is very traditional. The room we stayed in was spacious and with good facilities in a very nice setting. We could not fault the hotel. The stay was spoiled by other guest children running amok

    « Year 11 Prom »

Last year we held our Year 11 prom here, and from start to end everything was outstanding. From meeting with Lucy to the staff who helped set the room up. Couldn't find one fault. The meal and service was simply brilliant we had a three course formal meal, students and staff alike said it was beautiful. It was that good we booked again for this year. What a disappointment the meal was a little different students opted for a mixed platter with burger & chips followed by a sweet. The adults were having a formal 3 course meal. The students were served their platters, and we were served our soup. Over 45 minutes later, we were still waiting for our main meal, some students had their 2nd course others were still waiting. Service was abysmal, I went to enquire what the hold up was, and I had a very curt reply we are serving students first, which they were, but very slowly! Eventually our main course arrived, said Roast Beef, but this was definitely braised brisket, my personal preference is that I put my own gravy on, this was covered in thick dark gravy. We were that fed up of waiting for our meal, we began to eat. Vegetables arrived or should I say raw carrots arrived, not even peeled, and cut in half! Al dente not.Disgusting, disappointed definitely. We were lucky that we had a brilliant group of students and staff who made the most of a night spoilt by service and food that was lacking!! We enjoyed the rest of the evening, and danced the night away. Sorry Aston Hall very very disappointed £35 for this quality of meal, really not good enough. I'm sure my colleague is writing a letter of complaint as she had organised this event

« Our first visit here »

The hotel is set in some beautiful grounds, the staff are very helpful and cheerful. It is always nice to meet the person you spoke to on the phone, and we did. Our room was lovely (and cool!). I have difficulty with my back and we stay in numerous hotels around the country and overseas, this was the most comfortable! Breakfast was nice. The only thing that lets this hotel down are the morning and evening staff. Come on Aston, you can improve. We booked an evening meal for 8.45 and found as they had a large evening function happening we did not receive the attention we should have as residents. Our food order was taken in the lounge bar (which is nice), then we were asked to move into the restaurant which was completely empty, void of any atmosphere. We waited 10 minutes for our wines (one placed on the table in an ice bucket that leaked all over our son's trousers. The young girl dropped our bread rolls, we waited until 9.35 for our first course, 10.15 for our second course....despite asking several times for attention. Not somewhere we want to spend a couple of hundred pounds for an evening meal again. We have booked again and also booking a third time very soon,it really is a lovely place. Some of the staff need training please. Especially some of the young ones, it's not nice to be served at the bar and then be interrupted by a couple of girls who asked for something so I was left in mid air as the bar person obviously didn't realise it's totally wrong to do so. Nevertheless, our thanks to the reception and house staff, also the lady who we met as we came for dinner. All is good apart from this small issue. Keep improving Aston and you will get an excellent from us soon.

    « PERFECT WEDDING »

Our daughter got married on Saturday, 17 June, and we had the most amazing day, due to the totally exceptional service provided by Dave Robinson and his superb team, throughout the whole Hotel. Special mention must also be made at this point though to Lucy, the wedding coordinator, who has been excellent since we booked it 18 months ago! My wife and I stayed on both Friday and Saturday night, as did family from Bristol and Newcastle, the rooms were faultless and the room that our daughter had with her Bridesmaids, in the annex, was just right for their wedding morning preparations! Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff e.g. Laura, the receptionist bringing out a jug of water to help cope with the heat and offering to go to the shop! The whole day was coordinated superbly by Dave, with everything covered down to the finest detail but in a manner that put everyone at ease. Our daughter and fiance wanted to be married outside and we were so fortunate that the weather was marvellous on the day. The ceremony took place in the Pagoda on the lawn, at the front of the hotel, which was a perfect location, and the guests were able to enjoy drinks on the lawn while the photographs were taken. Everything was 'unhurried' and the move to the actual reception was smooth. Everyone commented on the exceptional quality of the food and wine at the wedding breakfast and we enjoyed a great (long!) evening with a good mix of music by the DJ. Cannot thank Dave, and all his team, enough for making this such a day to remember for all of us!

    « Overnight »

I had a conference to attend at the hotel and decided to stay rather than getting up at 6 am and going from home. Clean, smart and good service. I had already eaten when I arrived, so I had desert at the bar - cheese platter and a pint (Tetleys I think). Good service and a well presented. The room is in the modern section. Good size and well appointed. However, and this where the 4 star rating I gave comes from, and as a surveyor plainly obvious to me: 1:There are no light switches at the bedhead, so you can't turn the lights on/off when in bed!!! The reading lights are controlled from a switch on on their leads - so unless you remember to place the lead in front of the bedside table, you've got to get up to turn it off!!! 2:There a TV, of course. The screen is too small - big room, large distance between it and the bed. Also, it kept losing signal - it a problem as I only put it for news etc. 3:Then there the shower room. Modern, good looking and I was quite looking forward to having a shower before bed. The rain shower had poor pressure and the separate lead control was missing. However, as there is no screen, the floor up to and including some of the loo area gets wet!

« We have stayed in some amazing hotels, not always the most expensive or grandest but ....... »

.....made amazing by the staff at the hotels. Their attitudes and helpfulness and friendliness made perhaps not the most picture perfect hotels fantastic. This cannot be said about our experience at Aston Hall Hotel. In any way at all! We were in Yorkshire for a function which lasted all day and by the time we checked into the hotel, it was 8.30 p.m. Before we had finished saying hello at reception we were informed last orders for evening meal had to be in the kitchen by 9.15 p.m. So before we had seen the room, we were rushed through to the bar area whereupon our entrance the barman was loudly stating orders had to be in by 9.15 p.m.! We quickly looked at the menus, deciding to eat in the restaurant rather than the bar and ordered our starters and main courses. I asked should we order our desserts as well but we were assured that was not necessary. So we finally get to our room, which was pleasant enough, freshened up and went down to dinner before 9.10 p.m. Firstly there were only two other tables of two so not very busy and secondly we were greeted by someone who I believe to be the hotel manage but do not know for sure as he did not introduce himself to us. He asked if we wanted a drink which we did indeed but no wine menu was forthcoming and inthe end we had to try to find a waitress we could ask for the wine menu from. To say there appeared to be a skeleton staff is a major understatement! So starters was delivered, very nice food. Wine was finally ordered. So we waited and waited for our main courses. Given the fact we had pre-ordered our meals, you would assume they would be pretty quick in coming out but no, we had to wait a long time. When the mains did arrive, the food was very nice. We finished those and again waited for the plates to be cleared. We waited for some time. Finally the table was cleared and we assumed, as I had already asked and been told in fact, dessert would be offered. But no, no dessert menu was offered, no waitress or manager to be seen anywhere. Finally we stop a waitress who is far more concerned with laying the tables for breakfast than paying any attention to us whatsoever, if we could order dessert. 'Oh I think the chef has gone home!' was the reply to our request. Fantastic! A chef that goes home even though there are diners in the restaurant?! That is acceptable? I do not think so in any shape or form. Where is the manager then? Surely this lack of customer service starts from the top? So the waitress returns, yes indeed the chef has gone home, she can offer us a bowl of ice cream but that's it as she doesn't know the new menu! That's probably why the chef needs to be present then isn't it?! Very very poor service. So we dare to ask for coffee stating we will take it inthe bar as the urgency to set up for breakfast is obviously far more important than serving customers in the restaurant! In the bar we see the manager having a cosy chat with a lady who we later find out is his daughter so that's clearly his main priority rather than his guests. The coffee making took two waitresses to try to work out the coffee machine whilst chatting about shot glasses and measurements of drink. The newer waitress obviously had not been trained to a sufficient standard so had to seek advice from the other waitress whilst trying to make our coffees! Luckily we were the only customers in the bar as I dread to think how long it would have taken had there been anyone else there. Seriously not a good experience at all. We felt like we were in the way and a burden. Nothing was said or done to make us feel valued or welcome. So the nights sleep was ok apart from the room being lit by the exterior floodlights all night long. Breakfast. Well breakfast was a whole new trauma. It's a small self service buffet. Standard fayre. Cereal, fruit, small so,e toon of pastries and croissants. Nothing special. On entering the breakfast room, we noted the manager was 'busy' chatting to his daughter, and her family. We were briskly offered tea, coffee, toast and what did we want from the cooked menu. Quickly reading the menu, we ordered porridge for 2 and a cooked breakfast for my husband and small cooked breakfast for me. 'Oh no, you cannot have that. It's one thing per person' we were told very rudely. Then the waiter proceeded to read out the cooked options which wax very nice of him but fortunately both my husband and myself are able to read! I explained that I have special dietary needs and cannot eat cereals or pastries so porridge is the only thing I can have with a cooked vegetarian option. Nothing was said. He just flounced off leaving us unsure whether we were going to get our breakfast or not. We did get tea and coffee and toast which my husband can eat and reported that it was cold. Meanwhile, the manager is chatting with the same table as when we entered and seems oblivious to all other guests. Along with the lack of decent service in his breakfast room. We are given porridge which was scorchingly hot, unbearably so. Obviously zapped in the microwave for far too long! We were given our cooked options but unfortunately my husband was not able to eat much of his and mine was pretty cold. We did request more tea and as everything else, this took an age, being in the first instance forgotten and then taking a long time before finally being delivered to our table. We return to our room to pack last bits and pieces and my husband receives a telephone call. As he is taking the call, there are loud knocks on our door despite the 'do not disturb' sign being displayed, asking if the cleaners can come in. Actually no they cannot come in as it was just past 10 a.m and check out is by 11 a.m! This is not acceptable. If there is a 'do not disturb' sign then generally it means just that! If it was 11.30 a.m and the sign was on the door and we were still in the room, then to knock is acceptable. Otherwise, it is not! We leave the room and go to check-out. As soon as my husband reaches the reception desk, the receptionist is on the walkie-talkie shouting out to the cleaner: 'room ....... is leaving!' HOW DAMN RUDE! Who does that? We were checking out before 11 a.m and we were treated like that?! Not cceptable! In any way, shape or form. Clearly we were just a nuisance and our money and business was not required! This hotel clearly caters for weddings and functions. I would suggest weddings is it's main concern and if you are a couple or family (unless you are known to the manager of course!) your business is seen as a incumberance and is not really worthwhile to the staff to bother with. We absolutely did not get the feeling of being valued customers in any shape or form. Obviously had we been there to book a wedding, we maybe would have been treated with rather more respect but as we were not, then hey ho who cares?! It is such a shame as the exterior of the hotel is lovely and the food in the restaurant in the evening we actually did manage to get, was very nice. The interior of the hotel is dated and a melody of beige. Our bedroom was brown and beige and very much in need of updating especially in the bathroom. The beige tiles were not nice! The 'art' in the room, restaurant and main hotel is terrible and should be replaced. It looks cheap and tacky. The hotel could be superb in the right hands, as the building itself has huge potential and could be a breathtaking venue for weddings and functions. As it stands, it's passable but no more. The fact that it is obviously a hotel that caters so strongly for weddings at the expense of other clients is a great shame. The atmosphere and service are suffering greatly due to this. It's been a long, long time since we have experience such rudeness and complete lack of customer service. We will not be returning and certainly will not recommend this hotel to anyone.

We attended a wedding on the Wednesday 30th May. The venue is amazing, sun was shinning and the gardens were wonderful. The food during the event was great. We were all served together with hot meals. Cleaner away with speed. The hotel decoration, clean and modern. The friendly staff were polite and friendly. Our hotel room was massive. We loved every minute of the wedding and the stay in the hotel.

One of the best (excuse the pun) Western hotels i have stayed at. Also use for clients for overseas when they are visiting and always enjoy their stays there. Will continue to use this hotel at every opportunity

    « Fabulous friendly staff »

Visited here for a friends wedding. Dave, the General Manager here is just amazing. Professional, caring, organised, smart and REALLY good at his job. The wedding ran like clockwork. He really looked after the Bridal party and the groom. I have been to a few hotels in the area for weddings and this is not usually the case unfortunately. He is a credit to hotel.

Attended a wedding recently at Aston hall , the grounds and buildings are very impressive , we were there for the whole day and stayed overnight. The room for the reception was decorated to a high standard and we found the staff very helpful and friendly. The drinks were in my opinion quite expensive , the choice was also limited.the room we stayed in was well equipped and very clean, the breakfast didn't live up to expectations, I have had better In lesser standard hotels and even supermarkets, other guests were Also disappointed with the reception meal . Overall would give it 5 out of 10 rating.

Beautiful hotel, stayed here as we were having a weekend with our friends, room ok could use abit of TLC (small things mostly)most staff friendly, 1 member of staff stuck out (laura i think) got a great greeting from her very smilely and friendly, i forgot a few things and she whipped round and got me everything i needed nothing was to much trouble which i apprechiated, Would definetly reccommend. 1 bad comment feel like the bar staff could do with a little more training but overall a good stay.

    « Fantastic wedding, hotel a bit of a let-down »

Invited to a wedding which was beautiful from start to finish. The room where the wedding took place, the outside space for photos, serving staff, wedding breakfast was delicious, arrived to our table and was hot, the staff were very well co-ordinated. Everything about the day and evening event was great. The wedding package is obviously well managed. The room, however, left something to be desired!! We had paid for upgraded room where the space was adequate but was a weird shape, room was dusty but I'll forgive them that as we opened the window-which we had to do because the thermostat was broken so heating on full blast!! and the bathroom was a bit grim and despite having nice looking products -these did not turn a sow ears into a silk purse!! The bathroom basin wasn't fixed to the wooden top and the pipes were squeaking and rattling all night. I did raise this with reception and again at checkout in the morning but (the 'rough' receptionist) responded with ' ah yes the management have been aware there's an issue for over a week now and are still waiting for a handyman to fix it' Well, I say..., thankyou for what a wonderful level of customer service! NOT!

« Excellant venue for a wedding reception. »

We stayed at this hotel for two nights the 19th/20th of May for nieces wedding reception and had a really good time. After a minor hiccup to do with block booked rooms all was well. The room was nice and clean and fresh (101)and the bath room the same though it did have a small crack in the sink. There where two receptions on that day and it was quite busy but the staff handled both with professionalism. Our food was excellent and the service friendly and un-flustered. My wife forgot her nail varnish and the receptionist was kind enough to lend her hers. I think her name was Lyndsey...many thanks. Well done to all the staff we came into contact with.

    « Very Good »

I arrived late at night and left after breakfast so i didn't see all the premises. Room 208 was big, very clean and confortable. Toilet was also clean, new and confortable. Bed was very soft and good. Calm hotel. Old building but well maintained. No mini bar in the room. Breakfast was average. Staff were nice.

    « Comfortable »

I stayed here for three nights. The hotel building is impressive, but it's in the middle of nowhere so definitely need transport to get anywhere. I just had a standard room in the west wing of the hotel. I really think that the hotel website should put photos up on their website of these rooms. The rooms are extremely dark even with the lights on. However, the room itself is comfortable enough and has all the amenities that you need like toiletries, hairdryer, iron and ironing board and tea and coffee making facilities. The room was always cleaned to a high standard. The staff are a bit hit and miss some are friendly and others provide more of a perfunctory style service. Breakfast was decent enough. I had a sandwich for lunch which was quite nice and freshly prepared. Drinks at the bar are on the expensive side. Overall our stay was comfortable and I would recommend this hotel if you want a relaxing getaway but definitely stay in the more luxury rooms.

Thank you to all the staff for making my 'big day' so perfect! I cannot thank you all enough for all of your hard work (although I would like to give a particular shout out to Dave, Tom, Lucy and Sam!) Everyone had a fabulous time and the food and decorations were fantastic. I cannot recommend this venue enough! :)

    « Attended a wedding »

Visited Aston Hall in April for a friends wedding. It is a beautiful hotel set in amazing scenic grounds - ideal for photos! We had prosecco and canapes on arrival. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The food for the meal and the buffet was very very nice. 3 courses of soup, beef and chocolate brownie. The room was perfect for the occasion and was easiily transformed for the evening. As always with weddings the drinks prices are quite high

« Great Rooms quiet and relaxing »

Good location less than a mile from the M1 J31 but in a lovely setting, very quiet. Rooms of good standard and beds very comfortable and great quality linens, Bar a little quiet and we never ate here so i cannot comment on the food. Only stayed in a standard double so i can only imagine what the "better" rooms are like. Will stay again without hesitation.

    « Lovely weekend stay »

Overall an excellent experience and I would highly recommend this hotel. It is a lovely historic building with extensive grounds. The room was large and well appointed, the bed was huge and comfy (although the 2 mattresses that made it up didn't quite match in height so there was a ridge in the middle) and the bathroom was fine. A technical issue with the bathroom was very speedily resolved by the staff. No bathrobes provided, which I found surprising given the rating. Breakfast was excellent, with a good choice of continental and cooked. We ate in the restaurant and thought the food was of a high standard, especially the grill. The service, both in reception and in the restaurant and bar, was friendly and efficient.

« Lovely room for a special occasion »

It was our wedding anniversary and my birthday so we went for one of the luxury rooms in Darcy House and it was lovely .The room name was Belliss and was enourmous with almost 2 double beds joined together .The sky lights above the bed were fantastic and the bathroom really luxurious .Here and there it needed a little TLC but on the whole , good .We stayed DBB and although the evening meal was nice , that's all it was , nice .

Yet again a great afternoon to end our football season. Food was fantastic , great staff and what a location for the kids to play outside after lunch. Would recommend to any one with children the hotel and staff are great and the price of the food is great for the quality.

We have just had a wonderful experience here. A family reunion lunch was super. Our room had a super king size bed and was fabulous. So clean and comfortable. Easy to get to from A57 and M1. Ali the bar man/ everything made our stay all the more enjoyable.

    « wedding weekend »

The hotel and grounds are beautiful. Our room was nice, clean and peaceful. The complimentary toiletries had well designed packaging so I could see what was using without looking for my glasses! The staff were helpful and friendly. The wedding itself was lovely and well organised. The dining room for the wedding breakfast was very attractive, lovely flowers and table arrangements. The only disappointment was the main course choice for vegetarians. It should have been ravioli with tomato and basil sauce. The ravioli was a tiny portion covered in an extremely strong cheese sauce. The other two vegetarians on my table and I hardly ate any of it, and I usually like cheese. It was a surprise at such a lovely venue when vegetarians are usually well catered for these days. The rest of the meal was fine however, and the meat dishes looked good. The service at breakfast on the Sunday morning was very slow although the staff were working very hard. There didn't seem to be enough staff for the numbers of guests, and we thought perhaps toast and hot drinks should have been DIY to give the staff a chance to keep up with demand. Over all it was a wonderful weekend and we would come again and recommend the venue.

    « Amazing »

This is our second stay here at Aston Hall and we are holding our wedding here later in the year. Last time staying in Thwyttle, this time we stayed in Jazz - we loved it. Lovely room and fantastic with the bath in the bedroom, I enjoyed a soak while watching TV. Immaculate rooms and reception is just one call away with anything that you need. The meals were superb having this time lamb stew for mains and a chocolate and mint desert. The service was amazing and the staff are really friendly, lovely atmosphere and we can not wait to stay again.

    « Silence is Golden »

Stayed at the hotel, for 2 nights, the staff where helpful and went above and beyond. Stayed as I was attending a wedding at the hotel. Amazing view from my windows. The bathroom was huge. Comfortable bed, the grounds where well maintained. Had a amazing weekend the weather was perfect for a outside wedding on the day.

    « Why isn't this listed as a restaurant? »

We arrived without booking to find not many people about. The staff were attentive and confirmed a table so we perused the menus. One or two choices weren't available including most of the a la carte as it was Sunday. Chicken goujons instead of hot wings actually worked with the super Stilton sauce. Fish fingers were ok but why is it most cooks overdo fish? Nice chips with a caramelised browning that was just right. Delicate dressing on the leaves balanced the plate as we managed without bread. Chocolate brownie to follow and we were full! Ok, the wine was a bit pricey but overall the bill reasonable. Perhaps the icing on the cake was the service. We were attended to by Angela who was polite and cheerful and with sufficient familiarity not to be intrusive, a credit to the establishment. I'd definitely go again!

« Not great but not bad »

My partner wanted to treat me to a weekend away for my birthday in August last year. We chose to come here. From the outside it was quite impressive, and the reception with the large staircase was also impressive, but that's where it stopped. Our room was basic, bathroom was a good size and so were the cobwebs in the corners of the bedroom. A couple of the lights didn't work , and although the room and bathroom were cleaned the previous occupants shampoo bottle stayed where it had been left our whole stay! Plus it was above the kitchens so was very noisy! Also the grounds don't seem to be as big as they quote in their description. Unfortunately when we stayed there they had a couple of weddings which got very noisy, so if you want peace and quite, not a good choice. And in the morning we had breakfast in the wedding room where they had the wedding meal. On the plus side , the food was very good although limited.

« How big was that room? How miserable was that waitress? »

We stayed here for one night and also ate in the restaurant. The reception staff were SUPER and made us feel very welcome, big shout out for them. We had a lovely big room in the old part of the hall, so big in fact that I felt it needed some more furniture aside from the rather tatty tub chair which was useless (or a goal so we could have a quick 5-a-side :-) ) The bed was very comfortable, the shower leaked a lot from the back but was still OK pressure wise. A good nights sleep. The bar is comfortable if somewhat pricey and has a good range of drinks. The food in the restaurant for dinner was pretty good but the waitress was as miserable as they come, she obviously did not want to be there and detracted from what was otherwise a great evening. She needed less attitude. Breakfast was OK, I had the full English, the scrambled eggs were a little underdone for my taste but that's a small matter and this time the service was very good and friendly.

    « All round excellent »

Stayed at Aston Hall for accommodation and private dining with a client group. The rooms are stylish and comfortable, with space to work. The food is good. What set Aston Hall apart though was the service - nothing was too much trouble and we were well looked after. Would definitely recommend for business or a private stay. Tasteful Christmas decorations too!

    « Wedding »

We attended a wedding recently. The food was fantastic, all home cooked and piping hot. The venue is beautiful a perfect setting for a wedding. The only downside was we all had to leave the hotel by the main entrance and walk all the way round the hotel to the back to where the ceremony took place, luckily it had dried up a bit but we were having to dodge big puddles, we then had to do the same after the ceremony. The room where the ceremony was held was very cold and where we sat for our meal was cold. I never took my wrap off all day and night. All in all it was a great day. The staff were all very polite and helpful just disapointing how cold the rooms were and there could be a better way of getting to the ceremony room.

    « Fantastic!! »

Myself and my husband visited this hotel in August as part of our 25th Wedding Anniversary celebrations. The hotel is superb, the staff are friendly and welcoming. We were pleased with our room and although when we booked they only had twin beds available, they soon changed this to a king sized double the day after we arrived. We enjoyed superb food every evening in the restaurant. The soft music always playing in the restaurant just added to the relaxing ambiance. Even though through our stay there were three weddings and a party held, this never disturbed us as hotel guests whatsoever. Highly recommend this hotel.

« Lovely English old style hotel »

The hotel is in very nice surroundings just outside Sheffield. The rooms are clean and with funitures in Old English style. The building is probably from the beginning of this century. Sweet and friendly receptionists. The food at the hotel is really good.

« Great surprise party event »

We booked the marquee for a 45th wedding anniversary, Lucy the event organiser was really helpful, never growing impatient with my questions and emails. The food was very good we had steak pie and pork and stuffing sandwiches, everyone who came to the party was very complimentary. So thank you. Alison looked after us on the night and she was excellent very attentive and managed to carry a 3 tier cake to be cut, she is slim and we have no idea how she managed it. Imogen was friendly and great behind the bar. The DJ was very good, I am always nervous about DJ's at parties but I definitely had not need to bee. If you have a party at Aston Hall I definitely wouldn't look for an outside DJ. My only comments on the marquee were that the bar area is shabby and the screen in front of the toilets could do we some TLC. We all stayed and the rooms were great, my only comment on our room was that the bathroom was a real let down for the grandness of the room. The other bathrooms in the other 2 rooms we had were better. Breakfast was very good, one of the nicest I have had in a hotel. Freshly cooked, and not at all greasy as some hotel breakfasts can be. However the service was terrible and really needs to be improved. All in all a great evening that my parents really enjoyed so thank you to everyone at Aston Hall that were a part of it.

« Abba tribute and meal »

I've had the pleasure of staying at this lovely hotel before. This time myself and friends booked an Abba tribute night. The food was really tasty, the staff were friendly and attentive and the tribute act, who were great, had us all up on our feet dancing...we all had such a fab night! The hotel is set in beautiful grounds and is in an excellent location, it's close to M1 although you wouldn't think so as its idyllic. Our room was really spacious with lovely views of the grounds, I will definitely be booking again.

    « Abba Tribute Night »

What a fabulous night. This was the first time we'd stayed at Aston Hall and what a beautiful, elegant hotel it is. Our room was stunning, with beautiful views over the grounds and a huge bath in the bedroom which was purely indulgent. The Abba tribute band was fantastic, along with the food and setting. The staff were attentive and service second to none. The DJ following Abba was also a particular highlight, and had everyone up dancing. We would definitely book to stay again!

Visited Aston hall for afternoon tea with my best friend and we had a fabulous afternoon. I'd asked for vegan food and what a treat we had, delicious sandwiches and gorgeous scones made especially for me plus a selection of fab cakes. We ate so much food and washed down with prosecco and had a totally fantastic afternoon. Nothing was to much trouble and the staff were lovely and friendly. nothing better than an afternoon with cake and fizz with the girls ???? will definitely go again already booking our next visit ??

Customer service dreadful . Claimed double booking ..took over 4 months to realise this ??! Endless excuses ...no apology . Blaming on a staff member that conveniently 'has now left ' (even though we spoke to several members of staff whilst booking the entire Darcy house for 2 nights and additional hotel rooms for guests .) We now have to start all over again which has caused a great deal of stress for us all . Dave Robinson should be ashamed ..call yourself a manager ?? Appalling .

    « Average »

I booked a night here through trip adviser a supreme room on dinner bed and breakfast rate for £141 . Hotel is quite pretty inside and out , we stayed in the old section in dubbery room , bed was very soft room clean , bathroom tiny . The pictures of rooms on hotel web site are all luxury rooms . No roll top bath robes or slippers in supreme rooms . I have stayed in many hotels and for £141 would have expected bigger bathroom . Pictures are deceiving. We didn't like anything on dinner menu but you can use your £18.00 per person allowance against bar food and still dine in the restaurant . Food ok nothing to complain about plenty of choice on bar menu . Staff friendly but not very attentive as in asking if you'd like anything else such as sauces ect . But again had much worse meals . Ok night sleep lovely pillows and duvet just Shane mattress was so soft . There was a wedding on and we could here guests outside having a fag , but no fault of hotels and we were tired so noise didn't keep us awake . Breakfast was average , bacon tasteless but staff friendly continental section was sparse if pastries fruit salad consistent of apple apple and plum and orange orange and more orange , no strawberries pineapple Mellon ect . Reception staff friendly . Not a bad hotel by any means but I have stayed in better not quite the luxurious stay I was expecting .

« Better than last time! »

Second night here on business. I was given a bigger room than last time - in fact the room was huge! Somewhat surprisingly, the bathroom was tiny. It was difficult to find a convenient place for my toiletry bag to fit. No bath, but a walk in shower. Rooms have names instead of numbers - mine was called "Empire - fork"....? Room included steam iron and board, room safe and was clean and bright. Windows can be opened with a great view outside. Power sockets are somewhat awkwardly placed (probably because of the age of the building) so need a bit of discovering. Only tiny thing wrong was an extremely loose bathroom tap - I reported this when checking out. Best bit about the stay again was the food - again it was fantastic!

« Beautiful room, good service »

This hotel is roughly one minute off the M1, so it is incredibly convenient for anyone moving north or south. I use it because this hotel doesn't feel "corporate". The rooms are large. We have stayed here before and choose a room in the older Georgian part of the hotel. Rooms are large, have high ceilings and fabulous bathrooms. The food is nicely prepared, especially the breakfast. Staff are friendly, efficient and approachable. The car park is large and well lit. We were going to a concert at the Sheffield Arena, so drove there from the hotel. It is a short 15 minute journey. I thoroughly recommend this hotel.

25th September 2016 Many thanks to Aston Hall staff and management for making our daughter Laura & Daniels wedding day so special. The venue is beautiful, the rooms are fantastic and the food & service throughout our stay was excellent. Another wedding was also in progress on our day, but you honestly would not have known. Most of our guests had no idea! Special thanks to Dave for his support, invaluable advice and calm handling and resolution of potential problems; particularly the issues we had with the wedding venue decorator. A genuinely nice guy and a consummate professional in every way. We honestly couldn't fault anything. A perfect day in every way; many thanks to everyone at Aston Hall for giving us some very special memories. Mark & Ann Willis

We went for Sunday lunch to celebrate my husband's 70th Birthday, lovely surroundings, and thanks to the attentive service from Angela and her team, and the well presented, and well cooked food, on the compact, but more than adequate menu, we were not disappointed, we will most definitely go again. « a wedding to remember »

We went to my sister in laws wedding at aston hall hotel and was very happy with the place, we spent 2 nights in a king room, it was so clean, the bed was comfy and fresh lining, the shower was hot and all i can say is it was perfect, we wouldnt hesitate to go back again. the food in the resturant was amazing i had stake with onion and blue cheese souce, wow is the only words i can use, it was really that nice. the onion rings were the best, so light and golden, the morning of the wedding we had a breakfast, you tell them what you would like and what you would like to miss of your full english, i asked for scambled eggs on mine, they were so nice, silky and tasted like ive always thought scrambled eggs to taste like. the only problem was the sausage, there was about 8 of us and not one of us liked there sausages, they had a taste that stayed in your mouth for ages.but everything else was fab. the function room was huge, it had the space that was needed for my sister inlaws family to party the night away, the drink prices were way to expencive but saying that most hotels are. even though the staff seemed nice it was like we were looked at as not been equal to them, not trying to put them down as i know they have jobs to do but come on every body should be treated the same. since the wedding we have been back for drinks me and my wife, she had a bottle of wine which was £18, which has put us of going back again

    « Brilliant Wedding Venue »

My Daughter had her wedding here after getting married at Aston Church which is a stones throw from the front door . The rooms are large and well furnished if stopping over (ours was Trow) with both traditional and moden available. The wedding breakfast ( why they call it that in the afternoon I've no idea) and night buffet tasted superbe and staff very accommodating with the master of ceremonies excellent. Only down side is the cost for this type of venue but well worth it . If you know anyone who wants a fairy tale wedding and is willing to pay the price then look no further 10/10

    « Under used »

Have used this hotel a number of times and it always surprises me how under used it is. Not sure what the function side of things is like, but for a lunch/dinner venue, a meeting place and as a hotel it offers great value for money. It has a quirky charm where the service is not crisp and super-efficient, but it is friendly and accommodating and offers nothing to complain about. The grounds are attractive and it is so easy being just off the M1 Jt 31. Will continue to use.

This is the 2nd time I have been for afternoon tea. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds with views of the country side. We were sat in the gardens in the gorgeous sunshine. Afternoon tea Consisted of a good selection of sandwiches, desserts were to die for and my favourite. Chocolate dessert are the best i've tasted and just melt in ypur mouth. Scones with clotted cream and jam, freshly baked! Plenty of tea and coffee. Staff were very attentive and polite. Will be returning again, simple superb!

« A really nice hotel - let down by small detail »

A recent visit for a wedding reception was a very memorable event. A great hotel in a superb setting and close to motorway access. Reception staff were great but after that there were a few problems - it took an age to get served from the bar! This is really unacceptable for a place of this quality. The bar manager needs to grip what looks like student staff. Second disappointment was the cleanliness of the lavatory, again of ra hotel of this standard that was a let down. My wife thought the ladies facilities were good - regrettably the gents needed considerably more attention. A great hotel - but badly let down by a few details.

    « Outstanding Wedding Day »

My daughter 18 months ago book this venue for her fairy tale wedding, from day one the staff /wedding planner were fantastic. Come the day of the Wedding 6/8/16, we were not disappointed, The venue was a dream, staff very pleasant and exceeding helpful, food really was out of this world for such a big event (200+ guests), nothing was to much trouble. I must also make mention of the general manager David, a professional through and through, he clearly had his finger on the pulse all day, which led to a faultless day. Wish we could do it all again. Thank you Aston Hall for making it a day to remember and cherish. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

« Great hotel in great location »

This handsome building in well kept grounds is very close to the M1 but looks and feels as if you are out in the countryside. We had a basic room (as the only option for a twin room) but it was clean, comfortable and spacious enough. The food is good, although the range of choice and standard of cooking of breakfast were perceptibly lower on Sunday. The dinner options are reduced then as well. We went to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park by car and to the Rother Valley Country Park by foot from our base here - just 2 of the good destination options for visitors. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.

    « Nice place »

Stayed here a few times now and always look forward to it. The rooms are nice and modern looking, air con to keep them nice and cool, big TVs in each room , really smart bathrooms. Two descent menus to choose from for food, and it's always really nice. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Keep up the good work and thank you

    « Wonderful wedding day »

Our room was ground floor easy access, it was spotlessly clean and spacious. All the staff from the reception, bar, waiters, were efficient, polite and industrious. The wedding took place in the beautiful church on the edge of the grounds and inspite of the rain was so beautiful. I will be staying there again when in the area.

« Best one night stay »

We had a small double room in the separate building to the hotel, and yes it was small but there was plenty of room for two people to move around and put our things. Looked like it had recently been refurbished, very comfy bed. The bathroom was very small but the shower was amazing!! Breakfast was lovely, cooked to order rather than help-yourself, cold, rubbery food. Big variety of cold and hot food and drinks for breakfast. Location wise it's about 20/25 minutes to Sheffield city centre, we didn't expect it to be this long and the route was a bit of a drag but we enjoyed staying out of the city and it was no problem getting into Sheffield with a sat nav. Had a lovely stay and would return if visiting Sheffield again.

We stayed as a family for 2 nights whilst attending a wedding. The hotel is beautiful and the staff most helpful and friendly, breakfast was well cooked and tasty. We looked around the hotel function rooms and thought them quite delightful, the views from our windows were gorgeous and the gardens equally so, overall a charming and pleasant stay.

« A wonderful place for our wedding day! »

We held our wedding reception at Aston Hall on 11th June. Right from when we first visited and booked it (two years in advance!) our wedding coordinator was always happy to answer any questions that we had and there was no hard sell of the venue as we experienced at some other places we looked at. Lucy, our wedding coordinator for the day itself was amazing and really helped to ease the stress of wedding planning, even when we had a few guests drop out in the last week. On the day, the duty managers and staff in both the day and evening were great - making sure the day went to plan and that everyone had a great time! We stayed in Bellasis on our wedding night which is a lovely room, in a separate block from the main building. Lots of our guests stayed also stayed at the hotel and they also told us how much they enjoyed their stay!

« Great weekend stay if at a wedding »

We booked Aston Hall as we were attending a family wedding at the church next door. We had 2 nights here in the Helve room on first floor just above Reception. Our son and partner were just down the corridor in 'Fiddle' room. Well, our room was huge with a gorgeous bay window overlooking the rear garden with a view beyond. We had room service breakfast which was good. Can't fault the staff or the accommodation. If you want a quiet weekend here in season you won't get it as it such a popular wedding venue and functions hotel, so high noise levels throughout. But that is what keeps these lovely old hotels in business. Everything in our room worked so no complaints. Might come back for a family reunion as the village is in a great spot for us.

« Excellent quality and value »

My room was in the old house but was well equipped and comfortable and with good wi-fi. My bar meal of Hunter's Chicken was only average so try something else. A wider choice of ales would be appreciated. Room numbers, rather than names, would be more convenient.

« Gorgeous but breakfast could have been better »

We stayed here on our wedding night. When I finally saw the room for the first time at 2:15am the next day I was rather envious that my husband had gone and checked in the previous afternoon to get ready there, rather than me! We stayed in the West Wing, a separate building, but only a minute's walk from reception, however no lift (which I could have done with by then!). Both bedroom and bathroom were gorgeous, there are his and hers sinks in the bathroom, with a double shower and lovely big bath. The bed was very comfortable (and I'm hard to please re beds). Not, however, chuffed with the fact that an expensive hotel had longlife milk with a horrible aftertaste in the rooms - it is possible to get the longlife milk in individual plastic servings that doesn't have it, so why do hotels have the horrible stuff? Buffet breakfast was nice, but fairly generic. Also not impressed with the coffee, bitter, which is very picky, but, again, I don't expect it at an expensive hotel.

Thankyou to the staff at aston hall for another great night. We had a table of 28 for a 50th birthday and they even got The tribute band to sing happy birthday to the birthday girl as they brought the cake out which made her quite emotional. A special thankyou to Lee De-rozario who looked after us. Food was lovely as ever we had a prob with our vegetarian option but that was soon rectified. Well done team look forward to the next one! « Very good »

Stayed for one night, plenty of parking, friendly helpful staff at the desk. Room was in the west wing - seemed like 3 mile hike, of course it wasn't but upstairs and lots of doors to go through etc. Not sure if there was a lift - didn't see one. Room very nice - large, plenty of space, quiet, well equipped. Super King Size bed was very comfortable and I slept v well Room had air con / heating which worked fine Wifi was easy to use but TV kept losing the signal so a bit of a pain to watch. Bathroom looked lovely but like so many things was a triumph of form over function, the powerful shower was a fixed rain shower head with the controls behind the shower so tricky to switch on without getting soaked, good job there was a shower cap provided and also a shower mat as the tiled floor was slippy when wet. Anyway no disasters! Breakfast was good - cooked to order, staff very attentive. Breakfast room was quite busy and I did wonder if they had enough tables for everyone as it was quite full. Would happily stay here again.

Called here today for a special cycle ride stop off. Coffee, tea, cakes and scones were all served. They were all absolutely delicious too. The scones were still warm and baked to perfection. Staff were very friendly, the hotel is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. Will definitely return for a meal - very impressed.

« Great food, excellent customer service »

Aston Hall stands out as an exemplar of customer service. The staff can not do enough to make your stay the best experience. The food in the restaurant is superb and is worth revisiting whenever in the area. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable.

« excellent for family occasion »

As a family we live in the surrounding areas and have been to the Aston Hall many times using the Vanquish room which is a private dining room for medium/large parties. We have always had first class service and beautiful food . I have stayed overnight once and the room was lovely and extremely spacious. Breakfast was good quality but not huge. I would definitely recommend

    « Beautiful grounds »

My first trip here was to a wedding. The place looked beautiful and the outside area was great for photos. The wedding breakfast main meal of lamb was delicious, as was the sticky toffee pudding; I doubt the fishcake starter contained any fish, seemed mostly potato. Staff were attentive regarding the wine, however overall seemed a little inexperienced and disorganised. One or two of the girls looked like they didn't want to be there. Evening buffet was nice and had something for everyone.

    « Wedding stay. »

My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights for a wedding. Room lovely and clean and big enough for the both of us. Hotel and grounds very pretty. Breakfast had a good selection. Staff were friendly. Only downside was the bed was only a double and we have King size at home so felt very small, it was comfy though!

    « 80's night »

What a night we had! Throughly enjoyed the 80's theme night with the girls. The menu is a set menu your only choice is vegetarian or not. You have no idea what food will be brought to you. But the food was really good. 3 course meal of soup for starter, chicken veg and potatoes for main and cheesecake for dessert Simple food but was delicious. The music was fantastic just got you up on your feet and dancing the night away! I've done a few of the theme nights here and they never disappoint.

    « A PLEASANT AND COMFORTABLE HOTEL »

When I booked by telephone to the Best Western Hotel reservations a two night,(Friday and Saturday) stay at the Aston Hall Hotel I was told by the operator that on the Saturday night of my stay they had an evening function but it was possible for me to book a bedroom well away from the noise so as I would not be disturbed. I arrived on the Friday afternoon , the receptionist was very helpful and welcoming she even arranged to have my baggage taken to my room as it was right at the end of a Wing. The bedroom was very comfortable and large and there was a very good bathroom and a TV in the bedroom facing the bed.. I spent the evening in Sheffield returning to the Hotel in the evening and after a nightcap in the comfortable and friendly Hotel Bar I had a very comfortable night. Breakfast next morning in a small , comfortable breakfast room was excellent the Best I have had for years. Both the Continental and English breakfast was offered and one could have both if wished and the service was good. The next day I spent in Sheffield. On returning to the Hotel at about 7pm. and driving up to the doors all I could see was a sea of cars .I had been told that morning by Reception that they were having two Functions that day but if the main car park was full there were a few places at the back of the building which ,in the circumstances, could be used.I tried but they were all taken . After a while with the help of the receptionist I found a slot to Park in . True to word I had no trouble with noise as I was at the opposite end to the Function room. The only noise I had was from a few very inebriated couples from the function who, looking for their rooms laughed and joked very loudly for a while outside their rooms way after Midnight. Breakfast next morning was a disaster . It was served in a very large Function room with a worn carpet, speakers hanging from the roof and had the ambiance of a Railway buffet and was just as noisy. The service was slow because there were so many people so I just had a snack from the Continental buffet and booked out ASAP. It was such a pity as the previous days Breakfast had been so great. This Hotel is a lovely comfortable Hotel with friendly and helpful Staff. JUST DON'T GO THERE IF THEY HAVE A FUNCTION ON.UNLESS OF COURSE YOU ARE AT THE FUNCTION.

« Lovely hotel with character »

Had a one night stay here 1st-2nd May. Lovely hotel, original fixtures and fittings still it be seen. Very nice and welcoming staff. We stayed in the new wing, which was a modern style, but still very nice. Very comfortable room and dining area/ food was lovely. Good selection to choose from and good bar to relax in afterwards. Was perfect for an overnight stay, very close to Meadowhall shopping centre, but set in a tranquil settings/ grounds. Lovely for weddings/functions too

« Comfortable Stay, Heritage with a Modern Accent »

A very comfortable hotel much better than its 3 stars. A historic property in a conservation area with a charming ancient church in the grounds. Our room was in a modern wing built to integrate with the older hall and was spacious with every comfort for the guest. The property has been sympathetically modernised wiithout losing its charm. Staff are welcoming in the bar and restaurant. Dinner was excellent on both nights that we stayed. Recommended and very good value for money. Great location for all the nearby attractions.

« Lovely hotel, perfect for an overnight/weekend stay and even better than expected! »

I booked a standard double bedroom for me and my partner as a surprise present (we have never been to South Yorkshire) and it was better than expected. A huge room, most comfortable bed and the breakfast the next morning (you pay £7.50 extra for, definite recommendation!) was lovely, as a guest you get the choice of the breakfast continental buffet and a full English, safe to say it set us up for our day of exploring and we were stuffed! The staff are most welcoming and it is a beautiful setting, mostly used by wedding groups and couples alike but a definite recommendation if you are visiting over a long weekend, we only stayed one night and wish we had booked another!

    4
« Convenient location and it could be so much better »

When you arrive at the hotel do not take your luggage in with you. As likely as not you will be in the wing which means you need to trek all the way through the hotel to get to it. Instead book in and then see if you need to drive around the back and park close to your room. The bar meals choice is very limited although the food itself was well presented, hot and tasty. They just need a bit more on offer. The rooms are modern and almost too large with high ceilings and little furniture. They actually need bigger TVs the bed is so far away! The bathroom is a 'wet room' which is novel until you realise the whole floor floods and any subsequent toilet trips means walking through a large puddle of shower water. Breakfast was a buffet with optional hot choices from a menu. Three staff on duty to look after you which means prompt service and no empty bowls or plates on your table. Overall well worth staying here but with just a little more effort by management this could be a really special place.

    « Average afternoon tea »

First of all I have to say that I had my wedding here 15 years ago so it is a special place to me. As it was a relatives special birthday I thought I would treat 3 of us to afternoon tea.I booked the prosecco tea but we never saw a bottle of anything. We weren't asked what sandwiches we would like or even told what they were serving. When the waiter served the tea, he spilled it all over. There were no table cloths only placemats. The butter served with the Scones was margarine. All in all I was very disappointed with the experience It certainly wasn't the level of service or standard of quality that I associate with Aston Hall. Very disappointed. Has to give 3 stars due to the decor, surroundings and sentimentality towards the hotel.

« Lovely hotel and great stay »

Stayed in this hotel for one night for business purposes. Stayed in the Dubarry Room which was a lovely large room, quaint and relaxing. The food was of high standard and reasonably priced. the hotel was busy however service was not compromised.

« Super hotel, really good value »

I like this hotel a lot and have recommended the place to work associates in the area. Set in beautiful parkland the building is very elegant on the outside and decorated to a high standard throughout. There are some smashing abstract paintings on the walls which make hallways and lobbies appear very stylish. Room and bathroom size and decor is excellent. My only gripe would be the rather odd TV which kept loosing reception. Tasty food from the restaurant - steak cooked as requested and plenty of choice at breakfast. Aston Hall has a great little gym situated in an out house. The high fit out standard of the hotel extends here too. You have to request a key from reception for the gym and the night porter I spoke with went to great lengths to find the missing key for me, running here there and everywhere. Super service thank you! Checking out I was pleased to see that that all of the above comes at a modest price that won't break the bank!

« Fantastic hotel in every regard! »

We arranged a wedding at Aston Hall at Easter this year. From the very beginning of making the arrangements the staff were professional and helpful, nothing was too much trouble and they accommodated all our needs. The actual day was so memorable and the food and service outstanding. We had a very professional, fun and caring MC for the wedding. We laughedwhen during the wedding breakfast he was up a ladder due to the very high winds knocking the batteries out of the large baubles we had had attached to the marquee roof! He took it in good part! We booked out many rooms at the hotel, all of a very high standard, clean and comfortable. All our guests were very impressed - the majority of whom stayed at the hotel. We loved the Penthouse Suites, Jazz and Dubarry - some guests were in the other superior rooms, rooms in the main house and others the annexe - any minor issues were resolved quickly (towel rail not heating up, kettle not working). There are bedrooms with wet rooms bathrooms for those who need them. The reception team were so helpful and the bar staff got used to the many of us eating and drinking - both departments we found really cheerful and easy to talk to. This food was also very good. The breakfast was also very tasty and filling. The age of our guests ranged from 5 months to mid-80's and all were accommodated for. Thank you to everyone - we can highly recommend a stay.

    « Extraordinary Suite! »

I stayed in the annex building beside the main hotel. It was pretty awesome. Beautiful property with a church that had chiming bells. The entire ceiling was a skylight in my room, it was quite magnificent. Great service and amenities and dining options. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

    « Overnight Retreat »

I booked a last minute escape here for a friend and I on Friday night. Proceeding up the driveway was a magical experience. I certainly didn't expect such a beautiful estate! Arriving at the front desk, i was warmly greeted by Tracey, who handled my check in swiftly with a smile! The hotel is a bit of a maze, but easy enough to navigate. My exec double room was bright and spacious with high ceilings, very modern and spotlessly clean! Thanks Suzzie! All the amenities you could need. One of the best hair dryers i've ever used provided by a hotel! :) What a great shower too!! The internet connection was fast and reliable! After getting dressed, i headed down to the bar for a much needed glass of wine! The bar was quaint with a very relaxed atmosphere! Strangely, there was nobody behind the bar, but after a couple of minutes i noticed the bell and the response was almost instant. Prices weren't too shocking, service was great, glasses were spotless! As my friend hadn't arrived yet, i quite happily retired to my room glass in hand; after having a snoop around the grounds of course. If i wasn't cursed with the "forever single" gene, this would be in my top 5 wedding locations! My friend arrived and we relaxed in our room. We ordered late night pizza, thanks to the night porter for helping the delivery driver with directions. You really could have had a slice! :) Slept extremely well, the bed was very comfortable and it was very quiet! We didn't have breakfast as we decided to lay-in! Although we did sit and have coffee in the bar area after we had checked out. It was a lovely place to chat and be envious of the couple across booking there wedding. Thanks for a great stay! I will definitely be recommending and staying again if i'm in the area! 5 stars!

    « Business stay »

Stayed at this hotel on Thursday night for the first time having tried many other hotels in the area. What a fantastic stay, the staff were excellent, From the moment we checked in to the moment we left. Alison the manager on duty was fantastic and chatted to us giving us feedback on the hotel. The quality of the food was fantastic. Beds very comfortable. We will be back. Only one issue on guy was at the back of the hotel and the fruit and vegetable delivery arrived with loud music and chatting , smoking with the chef which woke him up at 5.30am.

The rooms where very nice and everything you'd expect in a high quality Hotel. The evening meal was 5stars with a matching quality wine choice to finish off the night. The Sunday breakfast was amazing with a fantastic choice including the Full English. I'd give Aston hall and the team a well done 5 Stars. Thank you looking forward to booking again.

We had the most perfect wedding here on the 26/3/16. The communication was fab from the start and nothing was too much trouble. We were so well looked after all weekend, not just the day! Lee was excellent during the day and made sure we knew everything that was going on, to be honest everyone was excellent! Is it certainly a day that we will never forget! The food was fab and no one had a bad thing to say. We will send some pics when we've got the professional ones back :-) The new Mr and Mrs Melia

We have had a fantastic weekend at Aston Hall Hotel, the grounds are stunning as is the Hotel. The management and staff make us feel so welcome from the minute we stepped into the reception. Our room was just what you'd expect, stunning modern and had everything you'd need. And a bonus of a beautiful view into the grounds. The meals where amazing as we had evening dinner and full English breakfast the next morning where you have a massive choice. Only one complaint, I've got to go back home.

« Beautiful location but far too pricey »

I attended a wedding at the Aston Hall Hotel. The staff seemed lovely and the location was beautiful. I would, however, say that the prices of their drinks were incredibly pricey. At one point a round of two drinks cost £18.90 the same price as my one-way ticket from London!! I don't appreciate places charging through the roof because they know that you have no other option.

Gorgeous hotel which is easily accessible from the motorway. Rooms were spacious and modern. We originally found the hotel on late rooms but found a better deal including breakfast on their actual website. We stayed for 2 night and had tea there on one of those nights, the food was absolutely amazing, and so reasonably priced. The only downside was that the drinks were abit over priced but that's what we expected for a hotel

« Lovely venue but for me theres a lot to be said for great staff »

Stayed here last week and yesterday. On a real positive, my room last week was beautiful. High ceilings, Victorian design and I love the "you don't need to hug a tree" moto for towel washing. The beds are also huge and very comfy. Lovely wee cards in the rooms so you can ask for things. I asked for sparking instead of still water to be left and so it was :) Grateful for the iron and ironing board, along with decent hair dryer. Note: this week my iron could have done with being de-scaled though cause it was leaking water everywhere! I reported a bulb blew last week and by the time I got back it had been fixed which was much appreciated. Menu is ok but for me quite expensive for un-inspiring options for evening meals. My sea bass was lovely but I felt there could have been more fish for the price. The next night I ordered a starter and Greek salad. Erm sorry but there wasn't much Greek about it and although I ordered it with chicken that didn't come at 1st. When I asked for it I got it 2 mins later, clearly fresh out of the microwave to heat it! The evening staff were ok but no smiles or attentiveness until it was clear I was on my phone on the trip advisor app! I was reviewing somewhere else but I've never seen smiles come so quick after!!! One particular waitress needs to find a job she's happy in because her unhappiness is infections! (See my latest Beefeater review for the complete polar opposite). To that end I sat in my room last night with a whole chicken and rolls I got from Tesco rather than have to sit down there on my own again. Can I say thought the breakfast staff were very happy and all of my breakfasts were lovely. Finally today I left and there was no one at reception. A guy left before me cause he couldn't wait and I felt like I was made to wait once the receptionist did come back so she could make sure I didn't have anything to pay. I had just finished writing a card to say I had to check out, was now late and didn't feel there was so much as a sincere apology for me having to wait.

    « Valentines »

Went here with my husband, daughter and her fiancé. Had a lovely evening! The food was good and the place looked lovely! The entertainment was ok. It was a Micheal Buble tribute who sounded like Sinatra but still enjoyed it very much! Our only complaint was where we were sat!!!! They put us near swing doors that led to the WC and an exit for THE SMOKERS. It was FREEZING to say the least! Other couples were moved when they complained another couple actually left! My husband spoke to the Maitredee and she was very nice and accommodating. She came back with a sign for the doors saying "please use other doors" and a bottle of Pro Secco as an apology! All in all a great evening enjoyed by all! We actually made some friends there! We have been to this venue many times and have never been disappointed! And we WILL be returning soon, I hope!

    « Good Quality »

This is a lovely peaceful hotel near the M1, the service from the staff was really good, the food in the restaurant was very good and the rooms were clean and recently decorated. The rooms can vary in size from very large to very small, but seem to be well equipped. Excellent value for money. Only issue was the signal on the TV went once or twice.

I attended the wedding fayre with intention to book our wedding. After spending an hour discussing great ideas, different dates and various packages with wedding planner she never even botherd to get back to me with a qoute! She took all my details and claimed she would get back to me the next day. I only wanted the largest package and was will to spend a large sum of money but if you can't be reliable enough to get back to me then why on earth would I trust you with the most special day of my life. My friends and I tried to create a friendly atmosphere but she seemed to not be able to crack a smile or make us feel welcomed at all.

Friends and I went here for a birthday treat. We have been to this hotel quite a few times before. The house is lovely and set in beautiful grounds. I was very disappointed with the set menu. Only 3 options and not very exciting. I had fish and chips but they were not very good. Everything about the hotel is lovely I think they just need to up their game a bit with the food and choice.

    « Valentine's treat »

After having our wedding reception here in 2009 we have said we would return for an overnight stay or a meal but never have, so as a Vaelentine's treat I booked us places on the Michael Bublé tribute night and a room. We had a brilliant time from the moment we checked in, we love the building and rooms and we're excited to see which room we had got. We had the Dubarry room, it was very tastefully decorated and had lovely views. We enjoyed our meal and the Michael Bublé tribute act was very good. The bed was very comfortable and we had a really good nights sleep. We had a lovely time.

Fantastic looking hotel, very friendly staff so when we were seated at our table we were very surprised to see we were the only people in the restaurant I automatically thought the food must be bad. To our surprise it was fantastic.i had butternut squash and sweet potatoe crumble starter followed by beef roast and petit fours £16 great,we be back.

    « great hotel & staff ... just avoid Harley & Spokeshave! »

Great hotel & staff. food also excellent ... just avoid Harley & Spokeshave! ... No, they're not a dodgy firm of solicitors or accountants, they are the 2 front bedrooms over the kitchen's very noisy extraction fans. otherwise, no complaints.

Good location just off the motorway but with a country house feel. Reasonable value. Had problems at reception with a lost booking and an incorrect charge to my card. The TV in the room kept losing its signal. The room was pleasant, clean and warm.

    « Nice overnight »

We stayed here to escape a children's party in our house. The meal was very good value, just a pity my excellent fillet was not hot enough , suggesting they had not managed to serve the whole meal together. Very good but slightly over attentive staff in the restaurant . I despair of wifi in UK hotels. It was free in all the rooms but kept dropping out.

    « Perfect New Years Eve 2015 »

We had such a fantastic time!! :) We've been for the Christmas do a few times which is good but this was a step up! The red carpet was a nice touch and the bucks fizz and canapes were lovely (am veggie and liked the bruschetta one.) The room looked amazing. Loved the little prezzies (those balloons!!) and crackers too. We REALLY enjoyed the space we had between us and other tables plus the fact that we were looking out towards other people. Meant we had our own space but didn't feel excluded - perfect balance. The food was lovely and the organisation/coordination of serving was excellent. The length of time between courses was spot on and it was nice to have someone check we were happy after every course. The managers, bar staff and serving staff were friendly, professional and cheery. The singer was fab - we had some lovely romantic dances! The DJ made a big deal of the countdown to NY (have actually been to places where they didn't even mention it!!?!) My hubby had some of the cheese platter but he's not keen on pie. I didn't want anything - didn't find it that appealing but wasn't hungry anyway. We had a fantastic night and will come again - the decoration, food and entertainment made it all feel so special :) and like we were VIPs! Thank you everyone at Aston Hall for a wonderful evening - we enjoyed every minute and appreciate how hard you all worked to make that happen!

    « New Year's Eve »

Had another lovely New Year's Eve at Aston Hall Hotel. Food and entertainment was excellent as always. This was the 4th New Year's Eve we have spent at the hotel and are having our wedding there in 2017. We have attended many events at this venue and have never been disappointed.

« Very good quality for the price »

Really enjoyed our stay - helpful staff, VERY good quality room and facilities. We arrived late, but staff were very helpful. Room quality was very good - high standard of furnishings, cleanliness, bathroom facilities and products. Breakfast was excellent.

« Nice Hotel, Lovely Grounds. »

My partner booked us a room at the Aston Hall Hotel for a New Years Eve treat as we wanted to avoid the usual hustle and bustle New Year brings. To say the hotel is situated only a stones throw away from the M1 motorway, the hotel is actually set in a quiet village, Upon arrival the hotel looks very grand and is surrounded with lovely grounds, internally the hotel is well presented, modern and clean. On checking in at 14:40pm the two female receptionists were both very polite and friendly, We were disappointed to be told by them that the restaurant would not be open that evening, This is something I'd have expected to be informed about when booking the room!! With a four poster bed and a free standing bathtub, our room was lovely and very spacious as was the super modern en-suite, the views weren't great with one side looking out over the car park and the other side over the adjoining marquee but that was the only downside to the room. After returning to the hotel after leaving to find somewhere to have a meal, we decided to head to the bar for a drink, unfortunately we were told that we couldn't use the bar at that time because there was a private function being held at the hotel and that those guests were in the bar and we would have to wait until after 19:30pm to use the bar (once the party had been seated for their meal) but we would then have to vacate once the meal was over, again this was very disappointing that we had paid £140 for our stay yet we were unable to use the hotel facilities advertised, instead we left the hotel again to find a local shop to purchase a bottle of wine and returned to our room. The breakfast which was charged in addition the the room tariff was either continental or full English, the waiter seemed to struggle with our order as I requested no beans and my partner no mushrooms or tomato's with our breakfasts, I ended up with no mushrooms or tomato's but beans and a poached egg instead of my requested scrambled egg. The breakfast staff, I have to say all looked a little bit miserable unlike the male receptionist who on checking out was again very friendly and polite. A lovely stay but unfortunately spoilt by unavailable facilities that should have been mentioned/stated at the time of booking.

    « Christmas Day lunch »

Fantastic day !! Thank you to all the staff that made our day so special . We ate beautiful food, received first class service and will return without a shadow of a doubt . This experience was personal and perfect for our family celebrations . Your attention to detail would take some beating from the best !

    « Pleasant Christmas stay »

We stayed at Aston Hall on Christmas night while visiting family who stay locally. The room was very spacious and quiet and the bed was comfy. Bathroom was lovely and clean and provided all required amenities - even a decent powered hairdryer which can be rare in hotels! We didn't spend long in the hotel apart from sleeping but the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful and we would recommend Aston Hall to friends and family.

    « Boxing day Lunch 2015 »

There was 11of us and we had pre ordered and we were eating at 2.30. My Husband and I arrived at about 12.40, we were greeted, I say that very loosely, by a Manager who asked us for our name, and looked down his list, oh you are early, as you are not eating till 3.00. I said I had booked for 2.30. With that he said we have 200 coming into the bar shortly. There was no , Happy Christmas, welcome to Aston Hall Pleased take a Seat in the Bar, I nearly walked out and went to the Local Pub in the Village. We went through to the Bar and ordered a Drink, we were the only ones there, so I counted the Seats, 14 ,it is not a very big lounge and only a few extra seat by the Bar, 200 people would never have fitted in there. The rest of the Party arrived and we stayed in there getting chairs from the passage way. By the way, 200 people never arrived..... We were taken to our Table by the same manager, the food was good and nice and hot and the service was fair. There was no Manager or supervisor checking we were alright during the Meal. I expected more than that from Aston Hall, I was very disappointed such a shame as it is such a nice Hotel and in lovely Surroundings. I am sure with some extra Training thing will improve....

« Excellent Room spoilt by small items. »

When we booked this Hotel, we booked it for two nights with an option to cancel if required. Our circumstances changed, and we could only stay for one night. When we informed the Hotel in advance by phone of the change they refused to refund the cancellation. On arrival I showed written proof of the terms of the booking and they agreed not to charge for the secong night. The Hotel and room facilities were to a high standard, and we settled down for the night. Unfortunately the timer on the extractor fan failed and the extractor fan did not switch off, and we had a disturbed nights sleep. My wife who has sensitive hearing arrose completely unrested. The staff who were polite at all times were not particularly friendly, and the atmosphere was one of functionality rather than caring. On arrival in the dining room for breakfast we were offered either a continental or english breakfast and we chose the latter. At no time were we offered a fruit drink, cereal, or yogurt. Although as we left we found that this was available in a seperate enclosure.

« Regal setting with one of the best restaurants in Sheffield »

Hadnt stayed for a while so booked one night stay for both our birthdays. Went for a modern Executive room in the west wing which was adequate but not up to the standard I have experienced in other hotels of a similar standing. The bathroom was excellent but the rest of the room whilst large in size was a little tired and dated. Aston Hall offers old world elegant charm however a more up to date television and mini bar would have added to the experience. Had noticed previous comments about heating in the rooms so checked in early and had problems turning the radiator and overhead fan on. Reception dealt with it in a matter of minutes and the room was lovely and warm all evening. The evening meal was superb, as always, wife had fillet steak, cooked to perfection in her words, my fish was delicious. A lovely touch by the staff at the end of the meal as the wife was presented with a plate of homemade chocolates for her birthday. Reception must have arranged this as I'd told them we had stayed in the past on our birthdays. A lovely evening topped off by the fact they were serving my favourite beer Tetleys smoothflow in the residents bar. If you want to experience a quality evening in a hotel in a beautiful setting then try Aston Hall.

« Wonderful location with 'nice' room »

Loved the quiet location and with my room in the annexe it wasnt even quieter but a little walk to the main building for the restaurant etc. The bathroom was a 'wow' with its freestanding batch, huge shower and mammoth shower head..all very impressive but it didn't seem to go with the main bedroom which was somewhat 'ordinary'. Yes it was comfortable and quite nicely presented, but the main wall needed a paint, as did the ceiling and the three damp marks in different places could do with getting rid of. breakfast was fine, plenty of it and tasty enough.Service was very good overall.

    « ice cold »

I recently stayed in the hotel in November and found it to be very disappointing. I arrived in the Reception area, where I waited to be seen and found the area to be very cold. I checked in and was given directions to my room as the other side the building, after walking up and down corridors for 10 minutes, I finally found my room not far from reception, but still had to ask a member of staff, as I was given a room number when the rooms were named. On entering the room it was immediately obvious there was no heating. There was an oil filled radiator, which I turned on but was not happy. Staff came with electric blowers, which was ok, but the bathroom was also freezing as the radiator did not work in there. I was offered another room. This was warmer, but as I was sat on the bed there were dripping noises, took me a couple of minutes to realise there was water dripping from the crack in the ceiling. I informed reception and a member of staff arrived 5-10 minutes later. The water had stopped dripping, but left the throw on the bed damp. I was offered another room but as it had stopped I declined. On a brighter note, the food was very good,

« Nice room, nice place. »

Company decided this would be the place for our Christmas party so we booked a room so we didn't have to travel home. Booked the Standard Double and was very impressed with the quality of the room (307 in the newer West Wing). Large bed, large telly, nice bathroom and decent view out onto the trees that surround the hotel. Not sure whether it was the party drink or the comfortable bed but a good nights sleep was forthcoming. Breakfast was a slight downer with cheaper sausage and bacon than I would have expected but well worth a "very good" overall.

    « A Christmas Meal to remember »

Came here for a Christmas meal last year and were impressed so booked again for this year. This year's meal exceeded all expectations. The helpings for all courses were very generous, the variety of menu suited all our tastes and all meals were served together at the correct temperature. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and were all welcoming and friendly. Shall certainly try to book again next year.

    « Too short a stay! »

Good location from M1, although I missed the entrance after 2 passes! A grand hotel meets you after a short drive. The hotel is very warm and welcoming, a lovely road over looking the front gardens. Unfortunately I had a great deal of work to do so just had room service that was very speedy and efficient.

    « Great hotel »

I have stayed at this hotel a number of time now and cannot fault it. The hotel is set in a lovely location but close to the motorway and Sheffield. The staff are friendly and service is great. The rooms are modern and spacious with a homely fell. The bathroom is a good size. The food in the hotel is very good. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

    « Wonderful »

Stayed here for one night with my husband, saw the reviews already on trip advisor and mostly good to excellent and it didn't disappoint. Lovely looking on the outside, very polite reception staff, lovely clean room, only minor thing is that it couple do with more milks to start with, but it did say you could ask for more so not really any problem. Nice breakfast, again only niggle is that the tables for two are quite small so felt a bit cramped at times with cups, plates, condiments ect,but again it's nit picking. Overall a lovely hotel, very clean, lovely staff and nice breakfast, will definitely be coming back.

    « Everything was wonderful »

Stayed here overnight as attended one of their Xmas party nights. First impressions, the hotel was really easy to find and just off the M1, really impressive building and grounds. Check in was easy and staff polite and helpful. The room was massive, large enough to hold your own party in! Had views across the fields and 3 different views from the 3 windows. felt very spoilt! The party night was very good, well organised and all the waiting staff knew what they had to do. food was excellent considering there were 200 people all being served and came out piping hot. DJ kept everyone on the dance floor all night, which shows he knew his audience. You could have a choice of breakfast with a selection of continental items and cereals. We had the Full English which was very good, with never ending supply of tea, coffee and toast. I would definitely recommend a visit here, The hotel seems to be very well run, all the staff were polite and food was great, (I hear the Sunday lunch is really good) I will be returning. Keep up the good work.

    « Birthday Treat »

My wife and myself stayed for one night as a birthday treat. I only booked two nights before our arrival, l had got the hotel up on late rooms but phoned the hotel direct as I wanted to book a table in the restaurant as well, when I spoke to the very pleasant receptionist I got the room cheaper than advertised on the late rooms site. On arrival once agin the receptionist was very pleasant and checked us in with no fuss, our room was exerlent, nice and big, a good size bathroom, plenty of storage and a nice size television, the bed was comfy and gave us a good nights sleep. We ate in the hotels restaurant, we started with soup very tasty but needed time to cool as it was hot very hot when served, my wife and myself both then had fillet steak and that was beautiful cooked to perfection, the sweet was lovely along with good service. We finished the night with a couple of drinks in the bar area prices are what you would expect in a hotel, therefore we had a terrific night all in all and I would recommend Aston Hall to everyone for any celebration what ever it may be.

« Beautiful room but a couple of mistakes. »

We got a beautiful deluxe room on a whim for a romantic break (1 night) It was spacious and felt luxurious. I loved the thoughtful touches such as a portable heater within the room. I am very nesh and while the age of the hotel means you get character, the room felt a little cold. They were very accommodating at reception and showed us where the blankets were personally. After these things I felt quite toasty. I thought the range of drinks was a little restricted as my husband enjoys real ale and there was none available - but it didn't affect the evening. We waited in the bar for our table to be ready for our evening meal. Half an hour after the time our table was ready (we'd been waiting approx 45mins), my husband went to prompt them and they took us straight through. There were 4 tables free so I can only assume they forgot. However, they were apologetic. The food for the evening meal was variable. We had starters and mains. my husband's goat's cheese tart and steak was lovely. Very tasty and well cooked. Unfortunately my crispy pork belly and venison was not either. 3 small chewy not crispy pork pieces, massively over spiced sauce which meant you couldn't taste the pork if you ate it together. The venison and cabbage did not taste seasoned at all - which is fine as you can do that to taste at the table. The venison came in two pieces and one was cooked medium rare and the other was incredibly rare. I had to leave the second piece completely and my husband couldn't eat it either. I gave the feedback to our waitress who said she would pass it back but we didn't hear anything or get an apology. This may have been due to two or three waiting/bar staff who seemed to be on their first day so we wrote it off as inexperience. The highlight of my meal was a sweet potato gratin which was wonderful. This was followed up by charging us for 3 or 4 drinks we hadn't ordered as we'd brought ours from the bar. The mistake was resolved within 10 minutes and there was no quibbling when we explained. Despite these blips we did enjoy ourselves and the breakfast the next day was very good. I had high expectations due to the cost of the evening meal which was not met for myself but was for my husband. I would still recommend Aston Hall as a place to stay and would like to go back myself but would not go for the restaurant only.

« Fabulous hotel, excellent location. »

This hotel has character, style and fabulous staff. It is located within a mile of the M1, and is perfect for anyone visiting the South Yorkshire area near Sheffield. The hotel is set in a beautiful old hall (c 1770). It has loads of character, but all the modern requirements. Our room (Dubarry) was so stylish, large, and had a superb en suite. The view from the window was glorious. Food can be eaten in various areas. It is well prepared and served by excellent staff. I look forward to visiting this gem of a hotel again.

« Pre Xmas Party Night »

Had a Fantastic Evening tonight. I didn't like the food on the Fixed Menu & I called the Hotel. They couldn't have been more accommodating. They swapped the Tomato Soup for Parsnip & the Turkey for Beef. The food & entertainment were 1st Class. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Aston Hall. Thankyou to you all for an amazing evening

    « Horrible Food Experience »

Booked a meal for my wife and myself for our 40th anniversary Not a great experience, we won't be booking again. My meat was over cooked. My wife's steak was burnt on one side and turned over to hide it. Everything tasted as if the fat or oil needed changing. Every time the kitchen door opened it smelled like a greasy takeaway restaurant. We were the only couple in the restaurant and we live locally. When I mentioned it to family and friends they all said that there is a reason it's always empty, as the food has a reputation of being really bad. Emailed the reception with my comments, I received an apology and was told that my concerns would be passed on to the chef and that they would hope to see us again soon !!!!! That's it !!!!

    « Quiet, comfortable room »

Good location for visiting Sheffield from the South. Close to M1. Reasonably priced for B&B at £100 for 2 adults. Reception staff pleasant. Twin room in new extension was large, comfortable and quiet. (could hear local church bell striking the hour but quite liked this!) Corridors on the way to room were cold in new extension. Evening meal good quality but service was slow and lighting in restaurant too dim - candles would make for a more ambient feel. Breakfast room was v. large and a bit bleak. Continental breakfast fayre good. Cooked breakfast reasonable.

    « Stunning hotel »

A beautiful country house hotel within a 15 minute drive to Sheffield city centre. Stunning rooms and the staff were exceptional. The food was 5*. I stupidly left my suitcase behind and didn't realise until I got to my home (over an hours drive away). The duty manager Lee drove halfway to meet me to deliver my suitcase! That's what you call going the extra mile! Can't wait to return.

    « Very comfortable hotel »

I stayed here with my family for a weekend break. The hotel is made up of an old house with a more modern extension. There is a lot of original artwork throughout the hotel and they have made the most of the traditional features of the old building. It is set in extensive grounds and situated to the south of Sheffield city centre, but very close to J31 of the M1 so it is very quick to get into the city or to Meadowhall. Our room was in the extension block and had obviously been recently refurbished to a very high and modern standard. It was a very good size (easily room for the extra beds for the children) and was clean and well maintained. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was also well appointed with a very good shower. Everything was very clean. Breakfast was excellent. There is a buffet with continental options but the cooked breakfast and toast were cooked to order which makes a very nice change from the standard hot buffet and 'make your own toast' which is commonplace in most hotels these days. The quality of the produce was also excellent although I would have liked two rashers of bacon rather than just the one!! ;-) All the staff we spoke to were lovely, extremely helpful and made us feel very welcome. WiFi is free, supposedly limited to two devices per room but we had no issue in connecting more that that!! There is plenty of free parking too. If you are looking for a hotel that is a bit different from the standard chain hotels then this would be an excellent choice!

    « 80th birthday lunch party »

We had a small room for 50 guests for my dad's 80th birthday party, with the buffet served in an adjoining room. The décor is sleek and modern and the room looked beautiful. The staff were efficient, pleasant and attentive. Will definitely make a return visit sometime, and can recommend it to others.

    « Evening meal »

I came a few weeks ago for an evening meal in the restaurant. The hotel was modern throughout and our first impressions of the hotel were lovely. When we were taken into the restaurant we were served our food very efficiently by two young girls that gave us an excellent service. The food was was really nice and there was plenty to choose from. A special thank you to Amelia and Abbie for making our meal an enjoyable one. Will be returning :)

« Attention to detail and a cheap shot.... »

We booked this hotel via a website for an overnight stay. Lovely location, very convenient for the M1. Our room was very good, modern and very well equipped. However, when we checked in, our room was really cold. When making the reservation, we were asked to indicate an estimated arrival time, which we did. It would have been a nice touch if the room could have been warmed up for our arrival. The in-room safe was locked with a code, presumably set by the previous guests. This should have been noticed when the room was being serviced. The TV had a mind of its own, only giving intermittent service with the sound not in synchronisation with the actors mouths. Breakfast the next morning was excellent, but on checking out the hotel played a cheap shot on us. We had been asked if we wanted a Sunday paper and had ordered the Sunday Times. The price should have been £2.50, but we were charged £3.18. I have never experienced this before, and made my view clear to Reception. This is a nice hotel, but attention to detail and resisting the opportunity to make profit from the provision of a newspaper would enhance it even further.

« A place you can definitely chill »

Just returned from an overnight visiting friends in Sheffield and stayed at Aston Hall. The hotel is aesthetically pleasing, good rooms and well maintained. Our plan was to arrive at 3pm, chill in our room, have a bath, get ready before being picked up at 6pm. We were allocated Marwood, a room/suite in the annex. On entering the room we found the temperature in the room was at 15.8 degrees!! (There is a control panel in the wall) No radiator or heating on, OK refer to the information book on the desk. There's an air conditioner on the wall and an electric radiator. Brill we can switch the aircon unit on heat mode whilst we figure how to switch the radiator on. Mmmm the aircon unit won't work in heat mode and despite switching on the radiator that won't work either. Great, time to call reception. Room service attend the room try the aircon unit and give up, but get the electric radiator working. An hour later 4:45pm, the room has heated by barely 1 degree to 17 degrees and we're still sitting in our coats. The radiator appears to be one of those low energy panels that you should leave on all the time. Time to call reception again with not much time to get ready. Apologies from reception, no offer of a room change but a plug in blow heater will be on its way. 5pm the heater arrives and 15 minutes later we can take off our coats off. Just enough time to use the superb bathroom, nope that's cold too the towel rail is hot but with all the towels on it there's not enough heat being transmitted to combat the cold air coming up from the unheated floor covering, it's too cold to stand on for long in bare feet. Seriously a £10,000 bathroom with tiled floor covering and no underfloor heating!! Enough is enough, time to get ready to go out forget the bath or shower. We get back and the temperature is showing 19.5 degrees and the room is finally warm. The next morning the room is now 21 degrees (lovely) we have a quick shower, walk over our improvised towel runner in the bathroom go for breakfast (very good) and check out. Would I recommend the hotel? Mmmm not in autumn/winter/early spring in the annex, the rooms should be ready to use from the time you check in. The reason we were given for the cold room was the room wasn't in use a few days before so the radiator was turned off. Ok, I'm all for saving the planet but they should be brought out of hibernation in good time. We weren't able to make use of the facilities and had to fanny around with blow heaters and never figured out how to get the bathroom floor warm, may be there was a switch some where but someone in charge of checking the rooms should have ensured it was on along with the heating. Sorry Best Western Aston Hall I would have given you 4+ stars but can't recommend you on my experience, 2 stars.

« Very nice hotel near Sheffield »

Good location about 15 mins from Meadowhall & the Arena in Sheffield. Hotel in lovely grounds and looks impressive when going up the drive. Decent size car park and reception is pleasant enough with friendly staff. The hotel layout is quite confusing and disjointed, but I guess it's an old building. The room we had was great - good size, looked newly refurbed, big comfy bed and decent bathroom! Aircon/heating was efficient and we had a great nights sleep there. Only a minor disturbance with someone outside making noise early morning, but that's not the hotels fault! Check out was slightly slow, but overall a very enjoyable stay!

    « A lovely stay »

We stayed here after a night at the arena (about 15 min drive away) The hotel is beautiful and set in amazing surroundings. We were in the west wing and it was a bit like Downton Abbey. Our room was a good size and very comfortable. My only criticism is they hadn't stocked up with tea bags in the room! Breakfast was fine. Would like to stay again one day.

« Perfection From An Older Property »

My husband and I have just returned this morning from a wedding of a friend held at nearby Mosborough Hall Hotel, another in the chain of Best Western hotels. As we were unable to get a reservation there, we stayed at the Aston Hall Hotel. It is the second time we have stayed at a Best Western group hotel. Although we booked at the last minute through Bookings.com we were impressed with the information we saw on their site and the hotel made an impact from the elegant pictures available. Usually we stay in high rated hotels whenever we travel and we did note the three star rating on the site and once we arrived at Aston Hall. However, we would have placed this as four star plus! From the moment we arrived the reception staff were so friendly and accomodating, arranging a taxi for our onward trip to Mosborough Hall Hotel and making sure we found our room without any bother (the Wyvil room in an annexed building to the main hall). On entry to the room, we found a wonderfully prepared accommodation with excellent facilities. If anything the only negative was a lack of complimentary sparkling water, which after a road trip is always welcome on arrival. The room was up there with all the other high end hotels we have stayed at, if not probably one of the best. Decor tasteful and what a bathroom! We did see a comment on Trip Advisor that the decor was somewhat tired, but really I can't imagine what the contributor was looking at because the only tired thing about the stay was ourselves on our return from the wedding. To move on to breakfast, what a delight it was to have a waiter service rather than a buffet style help yourself, which contributed to the wonderful experience of staying at Aston Hall. The full breakfast was really amazing, excellent bacon, egg, in fact all of it wonderfully hot (I hate lukewarm food), tasteful and cooked to perfection.

    « Family Reunion »

Our family met at lunch time for it's Annual Reunion. We were well looked after by the staff on arrival, throughout the meal and on departure. The food was well presented, tasty and enjoyed by all guests. The price was very acceptable. From enquiry of available dates and menus to booking was very easy. We will return next year!

    « Wedding Stay »

Stayed here overnight for a friends wedding. The room was large but at first cold but soon got warm with the aircon and the heater turned on. The bathroom was clean and had a shower over the bath. Unfortunately the shower leaked a bit but not too much, there was plenty of towels which could be used to soak up any excess water. Although we asked for a double it really was 2 singles pushed together but for one night not a problem. The bar was a bit pricey for me, but once again for one night not a problem. Breakfast next morning was very good with warm plates and tasty produce on offer.

« Lovely setting even in the rain. »

    « 18 September Wedding »

We have just held our wedding reception at Aston Hall and cannot recommend it enough. Rebecca and all the team (including Kelly and Lee who looked after us through the day) were absolutely brilliant. Everything went to plan and all at Aston Hall couldn't do enough for us. The food was delicious and the feedback about the waving buffet was amazing (best buffet some guests have ever had at a wedding!). Everyone found their rooms spacious and great value for money, and the breakfast was great too. Karl and I will definitely be back for our anniversary. Thank you so much for an unforgettable day! x

Aston hall is a very nice hotel with great rooms. Clean and with a lot of space. Friendly staff, the only thing that they could improve is the time it take to have cooked breakfast. The bar is ok, however you miss some atmosphere at the tables in the second part.

We held our wedding here at the weekend in the Marquee which was fabulous and everything ran so smoothly. The day couldn't have gone any better, the room, the food and the service were all excellent. The staff really are a credit to the hotel, they were all so attentive. I'd read a few wedding reviews beforehand and everyone has said the same that they cannot do enough for you which is definitely the case. Even with another wedding going on they all went out of their way to make us feel special. Big thanks to Rebecca our wedding co-ordinator and Daniel who looked after us on the day. Also Angela who served our meal, she was great! We've had nothing but lovely comments from our guests and lots of compliments about the food which some of our guests even said was the best food they've ever had at a wedding. It's clear why this is such a popular wedding venue and I'd certainly recommend it.
