Description

The Best Western Le Saint-Claude, located between Lille and Paris, is ideal for business travelers as well as for tourists wanting to immerse themselves in a historic atmosphere. Freshly renovated, the hotel has kept its atypical configuration which will not fail to seduce you. In the city center of Peronne, it is an ideal place to start your visits of the Somme Battlefields. Close to the exit of the A1 Motorway, the whole team of the hotel will, also, have the pleasure to welcome you in the restaurant for a traditional and convivial dinner.

"Not enjoyable."
Lucy B, 18 Septembre 2023

The bar was closed in the evenings, the shower was falling off our wall, and the staff weren't very friendly. But . . it's well located in the centre, yet quiet at night. We booked 2 rooms, paid the same for each, and yet they were very different quality, which was a bit weird.

"Great town centre location."
Barry K, 31 Août 2023

We stayed for one night, doing a short tour of the area. We were a little disappointed that our room was not ready at 3 pm. However the place seemed to have been refurbished (USB charge points in the room) and was very smart and well kept. Our room (107) was large, comfortable and quiet with a kettle and tea/coffee making facilities. Free street parking surrounds two sides of the hotel. I'd be happy to recommend this hotel.

"Not the best, Western"
JanetG224, 16 Août 2023

We booked this hotel because it seemed central, accessible, comfortable and with parking. In the event, the promise was not realised. On the positive side, the rooms are comfortable and modern, with good bathrooms. However….. The hotel is in a pedestrian precinct. We were led to believe that we could drive our car to the front of the hotel – which you cannot. When we asked what could be done, we were told to park at the bottom of the pedestrian precinct. We and others were therefore seen dragging our luggage up a cobbled street, sweat pouring from our brows. At the hotel itself (having located it in its hidden position) there were steep steps to negotiate. Once inside, reception was devoid of staff. We all stood, wondering if this was the Marie Celeste of hotels. Eventually, a nice receptionist arrived and we registered. It turned out that the poor receptionist was also the cleaner and the bar staff. Cutting back on staff in a service industry is not good for the clients but especially is not good for the staff. We later discovered that there is a disabled person's access behind the hotel – but when we mentioned this, we were told that we did not look handicapped – even though we are in our 70s and clearly not strong, and one of our party is actually disabled and finds walking difficult, especially up cobbled streets dragging heavy suitcases. Wifi at this hotel seems to work well – if you can access it. One of our party could not log in. The following conversation occurred: GUEST: I cannot access the wifi because a link is sent to my email address which is on the computer that is not on wifi. RECEPTIONIST: You can get email on your cell phone. GUEST: I do not have email on my cell phone. RECEPTIONIST: You must install the email app on your cell phone. GUEST: I really will not do that just for this hotel. RECEPTIONIST: It is not for this hotel, it is for you. The result of this was that the guest never accessed wifi at this hotel. A note of caution: If you arrive to check in before 3pm, the hotel is shut. We saw only two staff members throughout our stay, both of whom were charming and as helpful as they could be. They were overworked, one minute being at reception, the next cleaning floors in the restaurant. We have no criticism of the staff who were all as helpful as they could be. We cannot recommend this hotel if you are a silver-haired traveller, used to slick service, or like personal contact with hotel staff. If you are a back packer, this could be for you, especially given the hotel's proximity to a loud karaoke bar. Please hire more staff.

"A lovely hotel with an exceptionally nice manager"
MB E, 19 Juillet 2022

When we arrived at 2.15am, after our car had broken down on the motorway, the door was closed, not surprisingly. The manager kindly got out of bed to let us in. He told us our insurer had made a mistake on the date and booked us in for the following night, therefore he was not expecting us. So we were immensely grateful to him for opening the door, welcoming us in a friendly way and letting us stay. We had a very comfortable, spacious and clean room and an excellent bed. The bathroom had a great shower. Breakfast was delicious and abundant. The manager couldn't have been more caring, attentive and helpful. We were delighted to discover Peronne and the hotel is situated in the centre of the oldest and nicest part of the town.

"Trip to the Somme "
tomwC6789RN, 27 Mai 2022

Travelled on my motorbike to visit my great grandfathers grave in the Somme. By chance I chose this fantastic town and hotel. The location is absolutely fantastic. The great war museum is in the town and great bars and food is available around the town. I'd like to give a special mention to Raul who was the best host and helped me with my getting my bike in and out of the secures parking area. This hotel will not dissapont! 5*****

"Characterful hotel in a small town"
Jon N, 12 Mai 2022

Very convenient for visiting the Somme WW 1 sites, walking distance to the Historial de la Grande Guerre. Clean and tidy, helpful staff. Very good breakfast. Contrary to all other information, it does not have a restaurant, but there are bars and restaurants within walking distance. Parking is easy nearby.

"Disappointed Be aware!"
A7270GByvonnec, 12 Avril 2022

We were the unfortunate occupants of Room 105 who discovered a very dirty toilet on arrival. The young lady who was on reception was helpful and alerted a young man from maintainence. I can ASSURE you that we were not the culprits and resent the hotel's accusation!! Very disappointed. Beware!!

"Battlefield stay"
S5518ENdavidb, 16 Novembre 2021

We have stayed here a few times on our visits to the battlefields. Friendly staff with clean and well furnished rooms, free parking close by. Great bar a few doors down (shuts early so no noise + not that sort of bar anyway) and a great restaurant just round the corner.

"A lucky find"
sonjaclare, 12 Août 2020

We received a friendly and warm welcome. At the time my leg was in plaster and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Our room was spacious and clean, overlooking the little courtyard. I was given a plastic seat to use in the walk in shower, which was very welcome. Breakfast was self service and plenty to choose from with lovely fresh bread and croissants. Staff were helpful in regards to places to park our motor home and information about the local market (Saturdays). Right in the centre of a pretty town with easy access to everything you need.

"Great"
jb079, 17 Septembre 2019

Absolute a hotel to go for. It's in the middle of town with the old church hotel de ville and the castle/museum just a few steps away. Nearby are also some restaurants and cafes. Simply a great hotel to stay. Rooms are well furnished, bed is very fine so is breakfast.

"Large Room, Lovely Hotel"
Tracey T, 24 Août 2019

Stayed for 1 night while driving down to the French Alps. Very large room with high ceiling looking out onto the square. We were in room 202 which looked as if it had recently been refurbished to a good standard. I requested soya milk, in advance, for breakfast, and there was some in the fridge in the spacious breakfast room when we went down in the morning. A range of places to eat right on the doorstep. There was a little noise, initially, from a nearby bar, when we went to bed, but it wasn't late and it didn't last for long. Great choice of cereal and the usual continental offerings at breakfast. Friendly girl on reception and the reception area had some comfy chairs and free newspapers. They usually have a restaurant but it was closed while we were there, for the holidays. Will definitely stay there again if passing that way.

"Really nice Hotel. Great blend of modern and classic. Great breakfast!"
cyberswimmer, 25 Juin 2019

We requested and got a large room which was beautiful, modern with plenty of outlets. We asked for a fan and it showed up immediately. Outside the room was a very very old spiral staircase which was in indicative of the lovely blend of modern and old attributes of this fine hotel. The breakfast was the tastiest I had in this long week of cycling across northern France. The only negative was that the room was not air-conditioned and it was quite a hot night.

"Short stop over"
Passenger44399864610, 09 Juin 2019

Hotel is in high street was nice and quiet for the day we arrived, friendly welcome too. Receptionist was very good and informative of the local area and things to do. Good free parking just off the High street.

"Battlefield visit Hotel "
mof1, 10 Octobre 2018

Peronne is a good place to start a visit to the Somme. The museum there gives context to the origins and fighting of the wider war. The hotel is just steps from the museum and therefore a short drive to many of the sites. It opens onto the pedestrian mall and access to restaurants My room was large, if a bit dark. Friendly receptionist and helpful manager.

"Perfect Hotel near WW1 Sites!"
Mary K, 06 Octobre 2018

The Hotel Saint Claude in the small city of Peronne is ideally situated for visiting many WW1 sites and monuments. It also provides easy walking access to the “must see” WW1 museum “Historial de la Grande Guerre.” Our family was there celebrating the 100th anniversary of our grandfather's WW1 service in the region, so the location was perfect! The Saint Claude is quaint, clean, and comfortable, and offers breakfast, and the staff is professional and friendly. A female manager who spent time in Canada and speaks excellent English was especially helpful! It's a good value for the money! A bonus was a visit to the old town hall's photo exhibit and a dinner in the restaurant ”Le Bistrot d'Antoine.”

"Not a three star hotel!"
JimH03, 03 Octobre 2018

We were staying in Peronne as a base for a WW1 trip. The hotel is well placed, just off main square, with a selection of bars and restaurants close by. Whilst we booked room only we also had breakfast. Room was ok and had recently been refurbished. However the hotel bar was not open at weekends in evening and we had to go to visit pub which was packed due to Annual fete/fair being held on the Saturday. Breakfast was mediocre to say the least. Only one member of staff seen all weekend and whilst friendly it was obvious she was under pressure. Peronne is a good base for visiting many WW1 sites but try and find a proper 3 star hotel in the area.

"Never experienced anything like it"
Emily D, 30 Septembre 2018

My family had three rooms here for two nights in August 2018 as we were doing a tour of the Somme battlefields. Our room was compact and clean enough. Our room faced the front and was near signs that remained lit throughout the night. The drapes did not cover the window frame sufficiently, so our room was lit from the hotel signs during the night. We did not mind this, but if you prefer a dark room at night time, request a room away from the signs. My parent's room was a shock. When my parents got to their room, there was a hand towel by the sink that had human poo on it. They called reception and someone removed the hand towel and gave them a clean hand towel. My parents went out of the hotel room shortly after arriving and only noticed late at night (when no one was on reception) that there was also poo smeared on the outside of the toilet and on the wall next to the toilet. My Dad also stepped in poo that was on the carpet in the room. My Dad complained about the cleanliness of the room the next morning to reception and the lady was shocked to hear about it. She wasn't sure how it had happened as rooms are supposedly inspected after cleaning. During our two night stay, reception was unmanned most of the time and we had a wait 5-10 mins for someone to come to the desk upon ringing the bell. We could see that someone could walk in off the street, walk past an empty reception desk and go up the stairs to the rooms without an issue. The lady at reception offered Dad a free coffee (which he didn't take) and organised for the room to be cleaned. We had never experienced anything like it. The hotel was short on towels that night because apparently towels had been stained by brown smears by the laundry equipment - the same lady at reception was trying to say that the towel my parents had handed in had been stained that way. That didn't explain the poo smeared toilet, wall and carpet. We found her attitude highly offensive and it just added to a disappointing stay.

"Comfortable stay"
CAB102, 20 Septembre 2018

Enjoyed a one night stay on way back to ferry port. Clean and comfortable hotel just off main square in Peronne. Good breakfast - my husband had boiled eggs but there were no eggcups! Room clean and spacious and beds very comfortable. The bar closed at 10pm as id the bar next door, although they continued to serve locals. Would stay again if in the area.

"So good rebooked for August."
c_kerry778, 26 Juin 2018

Receptionist very kind and helpful. Room was spacious and clean. Shower room and toilet were top notch. Bed comfortable and LARGE.,!! The breakfast was buffet style with scrambled eggs ,cold meats, cheese etc plus the usual cereals ,yogurts, croissants, bread and cake, plus help yourself to hot and cold drinks. You won't leave hungry!! Well done the St Claude ( Best Western )

"Friendly and central"
Peter S, 27 Mai 2018

We stopped here for the night on our way through France on holidays and had a pleasant stay tho we had a nervous moment when the keycard didn't work at 10pm on the door and there was no one left at reception. .. A hard bang ofn the door did the trick but not sure what would have happenend otherwise. Decent breakfast and smart rooms recently renovated. Would stop here again.

"Renovated Hotel in Péronne"
Mattachini, 02 Mars 2018

I stayed for one week;.Good large room recently renovated. Free WIFI access (high speed). Free car parking in nearby public area. Excellent and warm service at reception. Advisable for business or short stay tour in Somme region.

"Good location "
Michal D, 30 Novembre 2017

The hotel is located in the centre of Peronne. The rooms are small but the beds are comfortable. Unfortunately the walls are very thin and you hear very well what's your neighbour doing. The breakfast was OK. So the price and the service are fair.

"Perfect Location"
rr177, 18 Octobre 2017

Hotel Le Saint Claude Peronne Centre is located right in the center of the city. There is plenty of free public parking just a minute away. The receptionists were all very friendly and spoke perfect English. I stayed here for two nights and also ate dinner. The waitress, who is also the receptionist, worked so hard. They really do need one more person, but the food was good. The rooms are not large, but they are clean and comfortable. I would stay here again if I was in Peronne

"A great hotel for visiting The Great War sights"
Kernowcah, 17 Octobre 2017

The hotel is in the centre of the town of Peronne and within a pedestrian only street. There are plenty of good local shops, bars and restaurants close by if needed. Free parking is available close to the hotel. The hotel staff were always very friendly and helpful and the room was of a good size and standard. The purpose of the trip was to visit the sites of WW1 and this was made easier due to the proximity to the Somme area (e.g. Thiepval Memorial, Albert, Poizieres, Ulster Tower, Newfoundland Memorial, Sunken Lane, Lochnagar Crater, Mametz Wood) and the good road connections. The sights in and around Ypres (e.g. Menin Gate, Last Post, Hill 60, Tyne Cot, Hill 62 and Sanctuary Wood) were only a 90 minute drive away. I would recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here again on any future trip to this region.
