Had a lovely afternoon tea here today. The service was very professional and the selection of sandwiches and sweet treats were excellent. Would certainly recommend. The public areas of the hotel are spotlessly clean - we enjoyed a drink in the lounge/bar area which was lovely and relaxing. Will definitely return soon.

Went for a walk and stopped in for coffee .staff were friendly helpful Especially Becky and Marina Had a lot of questions for them Which they answered thank you We will most definitely be coming back but this time staying for a few days. Your friendliness and warmth was very much appreciated nothing was too much trouble

Fantastic experience. Room with fabulous views and dining room with sunset over rutland water - stunning. Food was top notch and not expensive. Highly recommended. Staff went over and above to help us with charging our electric car. Thankyou.

I last visited this hotel around 5-6 years ago, and stayed in the same room. The only thing changed was the heater , which now runs via WiFi and emits a blue light all night. Room tired , scratches on furniture, badly creaking bed and windows with some mould. Bath mat on arrival had what looked like urine stain on it, but was changed on 2nd day. Adequate shower . Had a two course meal which was very tasty and good value. Faultless restaurant service. Excellent Irish coffee made in the bar. New manager seemed to be getting staff's backs up , and disagreements were witnessed. Right on the edge of Rutland water, a must for bird / nature lovers.

The Normanton Park Hotel is ideally situated on the shore of Rutland Water. During our stay there was a problem withe the room (not the hotel's fault) which was quickly rectified to our satisfaction. The breakfast was good and the evening meal was also good. The members of staff - especially on reception - were very friendly and the manager always recognised us and engaged in conversation. Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable and the whirlpool bath was a bonus! The bar and lounge lacked atmosphere however and would have benefited from some background music. The view from our (superior) room was very pleasant overlooking the lake. There is plenty of car parking space and the path leading through the gardens is a great way to access the lake. The hotel is recommended.

Comfortable hotel with direct access to Rutland reservoir & walks. Some rooms in main house & some in Annex. Warm & clean. Nice conservatory dining room & food (may differ from menu on Best Western site). Friendly & helpful staff. Would stay again.

This very friendly hotel is situated in a stunning location on the banks of Rutland water. The rooms were warm and comfortable. All the staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough to ensure that we were happy. The food was delicious and plentiful. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel

Stayed with my partner and my dog - we were part of a group and everyone else who did not have a dog had a nice room…. The room we got was more expensive and then the dog supplement on top …. The room was old, tired and frankly not 2 stars!

Hotel is a converted stable block of a country house no longer there. Situated on the side of Rutland Water. Some rooms and the dining area have lake views. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the food was delicious. Some areas are not very accessible for wheelchair users. In the warmer months I could imagine the lake being a hive of activity.

Stopped for a coffee. The bar was dirty and a mess. While we were there, staff were talking with one using foul language ! This is the first time we have visited for many years, and we were hoping to see an improvement, but unfortunately, not. ..

Disappointed with the shocking service. Beautiful hotel and setting but the service let it down unfortunately. Afternoon tea booked for 3 they only had 2 on their reservation list which wasn't great but they accommodated us. No menu regarding what we were getting, brought the food stand over and walked away! Food looked lovely but none of us were asked if we had any allergies or dietary needs. Especially as the carrot cake had nuts in it. No idea of what was in the sandwiches or cakes!! Asked for a bottle of Prosecco with 3 glasses, ended up with 3 glasses of Prosecco, when we explained we had asked for a bottle the waitress had no clue what we were on about. The chef did come over and ask if the food was okay, which was a nice touch, but the waitress avoided us, she didn't once ask if everything was okay. If it was extremely busy i could understand but hardy anyone in the restaurant

Had an afternoon tea, which was indeed very good, however the coffee was not hot, although plentiful , with a pot full. My wife had a pot of tea, which was hot. The food itself was fresh and plentiful, with a decent choice and good service, with great views and walks nearby.

Dirty cups and saucers. Freezing cold room with dirty window sills. Dirty side plates and cutlery had to ask them to be replaced. Hard buter and poor selection of Teas. Bought in cakes and hard stale scones . No hot water pot brought with Tea. Staff on mobile phone, Avoid.

Afternoon tea. Was meant to be a treat for my daughter but was really disappointing. Sandwiches were soggy and cakes looked and tasted like shop brought not home-made. Window cills in orangery dirty which was off putting . In a lovely area with great views but won't be returning

Having stayed twice previously at this hotel, this time standards had fallen dramatically. Standard of the food was poor, service was slow. It appeared that there was a shortage of staff. It is most unlikely we will be staying there again.

As the hotel was advertising Sunday Lunch Carvery we booked - who doesn't love a carvery. We were seated in the conservatory room at the back of the hotel overlooking Rutland Water, a lovely setting, so off to a good start. However, first disappointment: it wasn't a carvery, although the waiter said it was a carvery but it was being served from the kitchen! We were later told that they only did a carvery when they had enough bookings! 2nd disappointment: after apparently searching everywhere the wine we chose couldn't be found so onto our second choice. This was delivered with appropriate wine glasses but sadly the bottle, unopened, was plonked on the table and left for us to open and pour ourselves. 3rd disappointment: the vegetarian option was limited to one choice, vegetarian lasagne, I seem to remember that was the go to for restaurants back in the nineties! We went straight into main courses, one roast beef, one lasagne and two roast porks. A request was made that the gravy be on the side with the beef not on the plate. 4th disappointment: When the meals arrived the gravy was not on the side. This was put right quite quickly. The lasagne was advertised as being with chips and coleslaw but arrived with garlic bread and coleslaw. When queried chips were promptly provided. The roasts were plated meals so no choice of vegetables. The roasts included very large yorkshire puddings, sadly they were almost inedible. As there were only two choices of dessert we opted to call it a day after our main course. On the plus side the pork crackling was very good. A hotel of this quality really ought to be able to do better.

Today we booked a table fir Sunday lunch at the hotel. The Hotel is in a beautiful setting, and we had, had lunch a short time ago with friends, and it was lovely. Today however was a completely different experience, the food was awful and we sat near the window to admire the view, the window sill was all dirty and there was a spider crawling round the table! i did speak to a lady and ask if the chef was different, and she said yes, they are expecting there normal chef back soon, thank goodness! understand it is difficult to get staff, but this isn't a good experience, nor good for business!

I stayed here just one night with a friend for a local event. Room was clean, comfortable beds, really quiet at night. Location is gorgeous. Breakfast is fine, fruit, toast, cooked breakfast and cereals. Sausages are nice. Booked again with another friend to do some walking. Friendly staff. Night porter helped us find extra mugs and biscuits when we got in late and tolerated what must have been a slightly irritating bunch of women at that time of night.

Fantastic food to die for! Excellent service. Definitely recommend cheese soufflé starter. The restaurant was a good environment tastefully decorated without being over the top. Atmosphere in and around the hub is good too

Visited there on September 6th !Sat in the garden with 6 ,/7 certainly the staff were not friendly or accomadating!no atmosphere what so ever sadly !that was our favourite place but not anymore sadly !could not even get a cake just a pot of tea !!!

We stayed for 2 nights in a courtyard room Exon which smelt musty . Could only use the tiny wardrobe cupboard by moving the bedside table . Whoever serviced the room deserved praise, couldn't fault their work . Don't pay for breakfast, at 8. 30 very little ' hot ' food left , only hash browns replenished. No Continental or fruit alternative unless you consider a bowl of prunes meets this description. They had run out of bread !!! Asked for a croissant instead as I'd seen some earlier , " we only bake so many a day " Sunday evening - chips and overcooked fish for two of us ' plastic looking ' burgers for the others , all returned our plates with lots left - nobody had dared ask us if everything was okay ( as is usual elsewhere ) . Steak the next evening was black and curled up , deduction from bill only when I asked for it ,not offered when the meal was returned. Entertained by cracking noise as diner on adjoining table tackled her , overcooked , lasagne . I contacted the Management as I prefer to complain directly rather on TripAdvisor. No response received . Such a lovely location, this could be a lovely hotel . We won't be returning.

We came back here after a gap of ten years or so. It used to be run by a family with a penchant for semi 'exotic' used cars, Jags and Mercs etc I think. The cuisine was a bizarre mix of French and Asian, we loved it! We stayed for probably about six or seven evenings over a ten year period and enjoyed the sometimes random experiences but consistently brilliant garden and location. However, this trip was a look see before we decided whether to stay again. We won't be staying! The food looked great on arrival but OH's squid was soggy and rubbery and my chicken burger was a beef burger. The brioche 'hat' was bone dry, the burger average to fair and the chips 'not bad' at best. OH's Guinness wasn't the best. Points for not upselling the water to mineral water to be fair. £30 for that meal and drink, which if it was cooked well would be about right but it wasn't anywhere near it. I mean, there's one syllable in 'BEEF' and two in 'CHI-CKEN' food mistakes can be quite important!

The setting of the hotel is great. Everything else about it is grim. Rooms damp and in need of updating. Don't waste money on breakfast, if there is anything left at the buffet it is cold and dried up. Very slow to replenish. They ran out of bread, so I asked if there were any more croissants to be told they can only heat a limited amount each day. Waste of time complaining to reception as they don't want to know.

We stayed for 1 night for niece's wedding with our small dog. Let us check in earlier which was nice. Upon first inspection room was very small nothing special we stayed in the ground floor court yard room which was ideal as parking was right outside and good for walking the dog. Although dog friendly no additions to the room no bed no treats no bowls. Not normally expected but as was a wedding venue and a supplement had to be paid we was expecting a little something extra. Once we returned to the room in the evening faults appeared no hot water had to use mother's room to shower. Room was surface clean but not thorough. Cobwebs and spiders in wardrobe dirty marks on bathroom wall, sanitary bathroom bin had no lid. Shower head broken and leaking, no pressure. Was disappointed as hotel was not cheap £155 a night have stayed in better hotels with cheaper prices. Feel the hotel being a wedding venue they put so much effort into the wedding side which was lovely that they forget about the basics in the rooms but after a day of celebrating returning to problems such as the shower not working is nothing short of unacceptable. Breakfast the following morning was no better although arrived an hour before it finished they were reluctant to make more food. Eggs were dry and over cooked only veggies sausages available after 15 minute wait so had beans on toast no hash browns. Bread ran out and no gloves or pincers used to replace, staff used hands instead not what we'd expect. Everything just seemed a little too much effort for the staff breakfast seemed like an after thought even when the brides arrived. We shared our thoughts with reception and manager and other than calling maintenance for shower head they believed everything was as it should be. Overall in my opinion the external of the hotel and the location are great for weddings but as a hotel it is lacking in so many areas. Would return for a day guest of the wedding but would seek accommodation else where.

It was our daughters wedding and with trepidation we approached the given day. A wonderful wedding location with stunning backdrops. More importantly the hotel staff were brilliant, helpful and caring . Literally the icing on a wonderful cake , it made the occasion even more remarkable. A big Thank you to all the staff cheers

My wife and I stopped overnight and enjoyed afternoon tea there. I am a wheelchair user, so my needs are reflected in this review. This review has both positive and negative points. Positive points ..... Friendly and professional staff both during booking stage and staff at the hotel. Location relative to Rutland Water and access gate onto footpath. View across Rutland Water from the breakfast room. Cleanliness of room. Negative points Uneven access to hotel and disabled room along uneven cobbled stones Shower stool provided not suitable for people needing to transfer from wheelchair onto shower stool. We decided to find somewhere nice to celebrate our wedding anniversary with an overnight stay and afternoon tea. We looked at many options and the Normanton Park Hotel seemed to tick all the boxes. Before booking I phoned the hotel and the lady I spoke to was very, very helpful. An accessible room was available and afternoon tea could be taken on the date chosen. Due to family commitments we had to change our date after booking. A quick phone call was made and everything effortlessly changed to the new date. The approach to the hotel was very nice and we could see how close we were to the reservoir. We arrived early so we parked the car and went for a walk ... wife walking, me in wheelchair, along the tarmac path round the reservoir.... really nice. The path within the grounds down to the reservoir was hardcore and small stones and easy in a wheelchair. Trying to get into the reception area was a real bone shaker for me. There was a long stretch of uneven cobbled stones which made it very uncomfortable. There is no other means of access for wheelchair users as there are steps. The accessible room is on the ground floor but is approached along another stretch of uneven cobble stones and a slop up to the front door. The room itself was lovely. Very clean and easy wide enough to accommodate an electric wheelchair. The bed was comfortable. There was no external noise overnight. There were plenty of grab bars around the toilet but nothing within reach of the shower itself. The bathroom is a wet room, which was large enough to accommodate the electric wheelchair. There was a shower stool but it did not have any grab handles, thereby making it difficult to transfer from and to the wheelchair. The staff were absolutely brilliant.... nothing was too much and the welcome was lovely. One downside was we asked for extra pillows but they never arrived. While we were having our afternoon tea, there was a party of four next to us and they had made requests regarding wants in their sandwiches. It appears there was some confusion as to what was actually being requested. This did not cause any problems and the man serving them went away and came back with a new plate of sandwiches .... excellent customer service. We had a young man serving us and it was clear he enjoyed his job. The hotel is clearly undergoing an upgrade and hopefully once it is all done, the hotel will look lovely. The people doing the upgrades were friendly and the noise was minimal. I would have loved to give the stay 5 stars for its location, the excellent staff and good accessible room but the difficulty getting to reception and to the room put a dent in the experience. If I was still mobile, then it would have been an excellent place to bring the pushbikes and ride from the hotel. We saw families with children on their first bikes easily cycling along the path. There are plenty of places to stop and have something to eat and drink.... or just have a picnic and enjoy the view.

The hotel in many ways is ideally placed but is let down by a very average restaurant menu albeit that it looks out onto the water. Our room was very well serviced and the staff were excellent. Go for the hotel but be prepared to eat out.

It's not a bad hotel . But I would say it's also not good . Room was dated and needed some TLC . Blood on tiles in bathroom. Hole in the wall by bed . Drink stains down the wall . No milk until 7.30am for breakfast. Then on the second day we sat for half an hour waiting for breakfast items to be replenished. I most certainly would not pay £150 for a room . It is set in a beautiful location .

I would stay here again- the hotel is beautifully set near the shore of Rutland water, which you can access from the hotel Garden, and has helpful and frindly staff. The website also has some good value rates, even for a one night stay. In my view it is definitely worth paying the premium for a lake view rooms- our room was spacious and confortable, though a little dated - but the view was fabulous. The only downside was that the bed side lights were wall mounted about 5 feet high above each side of the bed, with the only control switches on the lights themselves, so to turn them off required getting out of bed and standing up! There were a few other snags with our visit. When we arrived and checked in we fould two carpenters working on our room's door. We returned to reception, who sent someone to investigate, and we were told they would be another 15 minutes. We were offered a complimentary drink while we waited, which we appreciated but didn't take- instead having a wander down to the lake. 15 minutes later we returned to find them still working- so we did take our complimentary drink, enjoying watching the comings and goings of a wedding party and finally got into our room about 35 minutes after checking in. Having gone out for an evening meal (having read recent revies about the food here) we returned about 7.30 pm to find the wedding disco just getting into full swing. We could hear it from our room but it wasn't intrusive, but at 10pm things got noisy. The wedding had fireworks, which were very loud, and all of the quests spilled into the garden (immediatly below our room window)to watch. The bar had been well used, and they were noisy. This lasted for about 30 minutes before they returned inside for a final hour of disco. To be fair things did quiten down by midnight, The other thing that was short of perfect was the wi-fi. Signal strength was not great, and we suffered from our screens freezing occassionally. If staying again I would definitely have a lake view room, but I would ring the hotel and check if there was a wedding on, and if possible stay on a non-wedding day- that would most likely be much more peaceful.

Was staying for a wedding, very accommodating, food excellent, comfortable beds very good service . Great place for a stay for a wedding at the church. Made our stay there very enjoyable nothing was too much trouble.

Great location, comfortable bed, food nice, staff nice. However l believe in giving feedback being a wheelchair user, lots of room for improvement, courtyard room giving to us, not much room to move around for wheelchair user, doors very heavy to open, cobbled outside not great to get around, fire extinguisher rite outside door so getting into room a bit of a tight squeeze, mix up by booking staff so had to be moved on 2nd day to another room which had a step! Hello wheelchair user! Definitely needs management to invest in making these rooms and outside more adapted to the disabled. Otherwise nice stay.

We were there for a wedding , the staff, restaurant, checkin, bar staff , Steve and his team were helpful , professional, efficient and good fun with a sense of humour too, the location is beautiful, we ate in the restaurant the food was great , the rooms were clean and comfortable, the hotel has a beautiful location , would recommend

We got married at Normanton Park Hotel in Saturday 17th June 2023.  It truly the best day of our life. The staff were amazing, helpful and friendly from booking the venue to after the wedding day . Alex was our Master of Ceremony on the day and he really did go above and beyond making sure everything went smoothly and to plan and always on hand if you needed anything. Everything was perfect, the food both breakfast meal and evening buffet was top quality and very tasty and enjoyed by all guests. The hotel is a perfect setting for a wedding, the garden over looking Rutland was a great social area for guests and especially watching the sunset in the evening! Finally a massive THANK YOU to Wayne, Alex, Kelly and Holly at Normanton Park Hotel for making our wedding day  perfect, so all we had to do was enjoy our special day. Went for an Afternoon Tea and it was excellent-sandwiches were perfectly fresh and really tasty-scones were spot on. We couldn't eat everything and they boxed up the “leftovers” for us to bring home. Nice friendly staff and lovely restaurant overlooking Rutland Water. Ten out of ten.

Glorious venue in peaceful surroundings, access to Rutland Water footpath. Large comfortable rooms, very friendly and experienced staff, the wedding food was delicious. Amenities were clean and fresh. Plenty of towels and toiletries. Lots of garden space for the children to run around with 2 play apparatus.

We decided to go for dinner for our 25th Wedding Anniversary as a trip down memory Lane since we hosted our wedding reception here. Well, what a difference 25 years can make. No longer owned by the same people which we should have checked before we booked. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but the place has deteriorated and no longer has a decent chef. Very disappointing evening. We should have done our research first before just booking based on emotion: it has somewhat spoilt our memory of the place which is a shame. The location remains stunning but they really need to get their marketing right and attract a decent chef.

Booked for one night, lovely setting and friendly staff BUT room was awful. The room was dark, stuffy,had one small window which was 7ft from floor so no access to open. Only lights working were ceiling, wall lights not working and no bedside lamps. Bed reasonably comfy but duvet old and pillows stained. The bathroom was badly fitted, shelf over cistern made difficult to flush, toilet seat barely fitted the toilet and not very secure. Had a shower and was ankle deep in water as the plug didn't drain. Unable to sleep with noise of plumbing in other rooms, walls were paper thin. Only positive was staff were pleasant,hope they will action our concerns as it could be such a nice place to visit.

Stayed at Normanton Park Hotel for one night in June for our 42nd wedding aniversary. The hotel is in a superb location on the edge of Rutland Water.The room was great. Although we had booked a courtyard room (there is no lift in the hotel and we have some mobility issues and courtyard rooms, I believe, have level entry access but no view) we were upgraded to a family room- Uppingham, with a lake view, however, this was down a short flight of 6 or so stairs in the main building , when I mentioned my concerns as I checked in, the lovely guy in reception showed me the room and offered to carry our bags down the stairs, and as the room was really close to the reception and restaurant, and it wasn't a full flight of stairs, we decided we could manage. The double bed was comfortable (the single bed mattress was a bit too firm). The good sized room had extras that chain hotels no longer offer such as complementary bottles of water, and individual toileteries. It was really great to sit in the large conservatory to eat the evening meal and breakfast looking out onto the grass, mature trees and the beautiful reservoir. The buffet breakfast was great and very good value. However, the big disappointment was the evening meal menu and choice. It was quite uninspiring - just very basic 'pub type food'. No menu was available to download on the hotel website in advance and we took a chance, but it was all burgers, hotdogs, lasagne, fish with chips etc. with a couple of 'non chip' meals and salad, listed on a laminated menu with pictures of some of the food- reminiscent of the now defunked 'Little Chefs'! It just didn't fit with the elegance of the hotel and its surroundings. We didn't have dessert as the choice was also pretty unexciting. This hotel experience could be amazing with a bit of revamping of the food menu. Overall we would happily stay again, but maybe we would not eat there in the evening unless there is a menu change. All the staff were friendly, helpful and we did feel very welcome.

Stopped at Normanton Park due to visiting family in the area , Staff on arriving and all the way through the stay were very welcoming and helpful. Room was extremely spacious with a great view over the reservoir, Meals we had at the hotel extremely good

The hotel has an excellent location by Rutland Water and staff were friendly. I was with some ex-colleagues and it was nice that we were given our own room for dinner. My room was a bit tired looking and could do with an update.

The hotel is in a quiet location right next to Rutland Water, with access from the hotel grounds. The courtyard rooms are ideal when you have your pampered pooch with you being large and across from toilet facilities. The rooms include everything you might need for a short break.

Much improved since the last time I stayed. I had a very comfortable courtyard room with all modern facilities. Friendly staff. Lovely grounds. Nice outside terrace. Good breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff

What a disappointment. Amazing location but this hotel is shabby and needs some TLC. We had some coffee and for almost £16. Overpriced and poor quality. What a shame!! You end up sitting in a reception and given the view they might like to think how they could make this a great experience.

We had a lovely afternoon tea for 2 at Normanton Park Hotel, served in the conservatory overlooking Rutland Water. The staff were lovely - friendly and cheerful and nothing was too much trouble. There were excellent sandwiches, delicious little wanton type pastries, scones with clotted cream and jam and a great array of cakes - everything from macaroons, tiny individual coffee, carrot, blueberry cakes, brownies, lemon tarts - the list goes on and on! We could not manage it all, so they offered to package it up for us to take away. It really was excellent!

The lovely view from the room looking over the water, great food and friendly atmosphere , nice walking and Oakham, Stamford not far away .lots of deferent rooms to choose from even four poster beds .

Very relaxing weekend stay. Room was lovely. All the staff very friendly and welcoming . Really enjoyed the food. The location is great and we really liked being able to walk around Rutland water. Would recommend and we will definitely re visit.

Beautiful! venue, Party went really well, bar staff / Chef and kitchen staff first class! buffet style food excellent! Overnight stay decent sleep, lovely buffet style breakfast in the morning. All staff very attentive from start to finish, I can not fault our stay.

Nice place, our room just needed a bit of tlc, which for the price it should have been tip top. There were a couple of bits of trim adrift on the dressing table and one wall could have looked better if the wall had been painted properly.

Very good location quiet and great views across the lake ever member of staff was great I've stayed here three times a total of 6 days very time the service was good my rooms have been clean and cleaned every day my only complaint is the food very bland and the three times I've had food here it's never been hot throughout I've had the hunters chicken and mash potatoes which turned out to be a chicken breast covered with cheese a thin smear of mashed potatoes and a tomato sauce surrounding it like a pizza base sauce very bland not very nice the other meal was a lasagna that was hot and surrounded by the same sauce yuck and the breakfast sausage's four burnt grilled lines and stone cold in the middle and no colour at all I've learned that it's a great place to stay but bring your own food

This hotel has Rutland Water at the bottom of their garden and has stunning views over the water. It is a lovely peaceful and tranquil area and great for walkers. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, they made us feel very welcome. Great value for money.

ALL the staff, but particulary the breakfast waiter, could not do enough for you. Food was cooked to order and served promptly. Bar prices were competitive. Good location although 5 miles from nearest town. We had the basic room which was really good for the money £62 incl cooked breakfast. Everywhere was clean.

I booked a double on Friday last week for a 1 night stay on the Saturday. we arrived fairly late so dropped our bags in the "compact" room and went straight out to dinner with friends. We arrived back late and went straight to bed , upon waking in the morning we then realised the room was mouldy, wall paper was coming off the walls, plastic conduits covering wires were falling off and the net curtain (which im sure was meant to be white was yellow) not to mention the newish wall paper behind the bed stopped at the edge of the wardrobe as what appeared was the lack of ability to move a free standing wardrobe!. After pointing these things out to what I assumed was the duty manager I was reliably informed "she would make a note to house keeping" I do hope she mentioned it to the property management team too just in case she were to receive a visit from the HSE she might find "just making a note of it"might not be enough. I stay at lots of hotels and do not consider myself a complainer at all, I appreciate it is a tough job to keep older buildings up to spec but to be fair, for £130 for the night it was very disappointing, as was the duty managers response. my last best western experience im afraid, I do hope your "note" reaches the right people madam. The gentleman on reception was very helpful and the setting for the hotel was wonderful but the room let it down very badly unfortunately.

The hotel has a nice drive down to it and an outstanding view of Rutland water. The hotel caters for passing trade as well as staying guests. The restaurant was very good, good service and great food. The down side. The room we had was tired and could have done with a revamp. The plumbing in our part of the building was old and particularly noisy especially when the room above us had several late night spa bathes. The breakfast was adequate , but a lot of the food was not as hot as we liked. I would stay at this hotel again, but I would make sure I stayed in the better rooms.

Booked as guest at a wedding. Arrived hoping to book in and get changed to be told it was 4pm check in not the noon I had booked. All the timings were altered to 2 hours later for booking in and check out was an hour earlier at 10am. Breakfast was moved from 10 to 9.30. No communication with the staff there and certainly non with the customer. Not a great start to a wedding celebration. Staff did the best they could but there was just not enough of them.

Arrive late Friday afternoon with two friends and were asked to pay upon arrival. The receptionist was very pleasant but had great difficulty getting the card machine working and one of the party had to pay in cash. Our three rooms were clean but very dated. For Friday and Saturday evening, we had tables booked for nine people and the service, menu choice and the food itself was first class. However, on Sunday evening the menu was limited to just roast beef or roast pork and the quality of the main course was terrible, cold and nearly un-edible. We should have either sent it back or refused to pay for it. Breakfast was very good every morning. It's not a cheap place to stay and the standard is not up to the prices charged.

We were asked to pay on arrival. Later when I checked the quoted price I found that each of us was overcharged by £10 per couple, we received a refund. Our rooms were just about adequate but poorly maintained. It was not possible to charge food or drink to the room and so had to settle up each night. The food was substandard. We were told that breakfast was served between 6:30 and 9:30 we met at 9:00 but told to hurry up as the chef finished but would stay for 10 minutes to cook breakfast! Which was poor. When we complained about the time the receptionist denied saying it was 09:30! The 2nd night the dinner was very poor. Only one member of staff on duty. Having finished our main course we asked to see the dessert menu but were told that as it was after 9pm and the chef had gone home so desserts were not available. Next morning breakfast at 8am we decided to have continental breakfast but they ran out of croissants!! We complained to the manager who told us we were being “Disrespectful”. He gave the impression that he didn't believe us and really didn't care what we thought. Most of the staff were courteous and friendly but were novices having only worked at the hotel for 2 to 3 days.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who had a very bad experience with breakfast here and called disrespectful by the Manager!! I am not going to write a full review as I'm choosing to go higher up the Management chain in full. There were other Guests who were equally unhappy.

We are returning customers and must say there have been many changes, we had a couple of issues, which the manager and the staff were really responsive and were able resolved to the best of their ability. Sometimes people forget that everything cannot be resolved there and then, the way you speak to people doesn't help the situation if you are rude. We had a lovely stay and feel well relaxed. the staff were helpful and would like to wish Ben well, a new member of staff, Luke was very attentive and makes great coffee. Thank you to the rest of the staff for making our stay enjoyable, we will return.

I can't begin to tell you how appalled we are with the awful customer service experience we've received. The General Manager was very disappointing when we asked him to help a 96 year old arriving and wanted to reserve a parking area close to reception- we were told this is not possible even though there was space in the front, he refused to hold the place for them and accused me having a bad attitude!!! I can't believe we've been treated like this and a majority of our guests had very similar experiences, it really put a black mark against what was meant yo be a lovely event. A very disappointing venue but the Barman made up for everyone else's lack of customer care, well done!

The rooms are shabby and need new furniture snd updating. The presentation of food is poor along with the quality of the offering the fayre. The bar is expensive and the selection of drinks is limited. Our food at night was the worst food we've ever been offered at a hotel.

Every element of the stay was thoroughly enjoyable and the food excellent. The location is perfect and it is easy to see why it is such a popular venue for weddings. I thoroughly recommend this hotel.

NEVER AGAIN!!! This hotel is disgusting!! The food was awful, The staff were blatantly taking drugs. They were unhelpful, uninterested and untidy It was filthy, full of bugs both alive and dead. Don't be fooled by its idyllic setting

Beautiful location. They were, polite, friendly staff (but looked understaffed.) Dated, tired decor in guest rooms and public areas. In much need of redecorating, would very much improve the stay. Food was average but with a lot of choice. Maybe look at a reduced menu and improve quality.

We travelled nearly 60 miles with our friends as we have had some wonderful Sunday lunches here over the years in these idyllic surroundings. Its still a beautiful place but there is a distinct lack of staff & there was no manager on site to speak to about the quality of the food. The staff we did see did their best but there is a definite lack of leadership in the dining area. I'm not one for writing negative reviews but we were so very disappointed & I'm very sorry to say that we will not be returning in the future. Best Western is certainly the best these days so

Booked Sunday lunch here today. Been here before covid and always lovely so we had high hopes. Arrived and bought drinks from the bar and hung around as there was no one around to show us to our table. We ordered our food, 3 beef dinners and 1 pate. Meal came after a wait - waiter put down our meals and left without enquiring if we required sauces or extra gravy etc. There was no salt and pepper on the table and no spoons to dish out the vegetables. We asked for these and waited…. We tried our beef - couldn't even cut it! The small piece I managed to eventually cut was unchewable. We asked to see the manager. We waited …. We asked again. We waited. No manager appeared just a waiter who said we could order something else. We waited ……. Eventually we were so wound up we decided to call it a day and leave. We are so disappointed that a place in such a beautiful location was awful. We won't be visiting again. We got the impression that the manager - whoever he/she was couldn't care less. By the way the pâté was ok but came with 2 pieces of very overdone toast bordering on burnt!

Don't stay at this poor excuse of a hotel, unprofessional staff who don't care if you have a problem, food was awful and well overprice no doubt because of the location. This hotel is missing a massive opportunity, however there are other hotels and guest houses in the area at much better value

Breakfast was like a motor services, room was small and the window was over 7ft off the ground and you could see out of it. Reception was great, but the servicing staff were rude and lacked the basic experience.

The hotel and facilities were better than expected , they were located right on the reservoir meaning it was so easy to walk about with young kids and a pram ! The boat ride and waterfront church were just minutes away , lots of sheep roaming freely, lots of wild rabbits etc at sunset, the kids loved it. Probably suitable for kids up to 9 .

Remember this place as being ideal for coffee. but not anymore. Walked in and felt like we were intruding instead of being in a hotel Had almost to beg to be served but not so slow at taking your money. They should not be allowed to use the Best Western name. WORST WESTERN yes

Upon arrival the room didn't quite feel fully ready and there were noticeable stains on bedsheets and pillows. Dead insects were found dotted around the room, including a dead spider in the welcome folder.

Found bathroom in poor quality. Room needs redecorating. Buffet breakfast poor quality, no cooked breakfast available on second morning as food was not replenished even though staff were aware of problem and guests were waiting to eat. Limited choice of beers and lagers. Cold coffee served at wedding reception.

Ok let's start, we went here for a wedding reception of a couple of friends, checked into reception which was very friendly and the lady behind the counter was very nice. So we pick up our key got to the room room and when I opened the door the smell of damp hit us! It was so bad we were spraying perfume about to get rid of the smell (I know your thinking why didn't we change rooms, they were fully booked) Any way my fiancé checked the bed for bugs which we did find some empty husks where they had grown but luckily didn't find any bugs,phew! As she went to check the covers we noticed makeup on the quilt cover so obviously not been changed! The next day (today) got up for breakfast,we had heard from some other residents that we need to get there early as the breakfast will be cold,oh yes it was! Absolute shambles,the way it was all set up was crazy,anyway after going back to my room to get a shower we had not hot water! Not a great stay,did put a complaint into reception,we'll see what happens,I went with my fiancé who is over from the states for 2 weeks,I'm supposed to be out tonight for a meal with the family but I'm lying here on my bed only darting to the toilet (sorry for that bit of information) So no,not a pleasant visit at all And it's a shame as the views are stunning and it could be such a lovely place.

We stayed in this hotel on 28th July 2022 for a wedding. In the paperwork supplied by the hotel to the wedding party to send out to their guests the details were incorrect and when on questioning the reception staff there excuse was that the wedding must have been booked pre covid - IT WASNT. The manager who was announcing the bride and groom was so inappropriately dressed - very scruffy could have worn a suit. We knew the breakfast was in the room rate and had been informed by other guests how bad the breakfast was and they wernt wrong. the scrambled eggs were not yellow but a sort of brown, the bacon was tough and everything was cold. We certainly would not recommend this place either to stay in or as a wedding venue - it felt like a conveyor belt.

Came for a one night 1 day stay for my birthday. First impressions were good, room had a balcony and bed was comfortable. We stayed in Manton and it wasn't until the night the problems started. The toilet next door was really loud when it flushed and the walls are paper thin, we were woken at 2.00 am and then 6.00 by screaming from the child in the next room, the mai door was the repeatedly allowed to slam shut. The room was also unbearably hot. Breakfast was a shambles, hardly any food available, no milk or tea and when the cooked breakfast arrived it was dry and over cooked. The location was spot on, however, due to lack of sleep I wouldn't stay here again.

My husband and I stayed over one day and a night to celebrate my Birthday. We arrived a bit early so could not check in but were greeted by a very Friendly receptionist who told us we could check in at 2pm. We had some Lunch and a coffee and were served by a young man Called Alex who was very friendly and attentive and chatted to us. He was very professional and made us feel very at home. After lunch we went for a walk and then came back and checked in. Once we were settled we decided to sit outside and relax and have a few drinks and take in the Fabulous view. Alex served us again and he was very warm and welcoming and we had a lovely chat with him. We were so impressed by all the staff. We also met the General Manager who was very helpful and a young lady who was serving us when we had dinner later on. I can honestly say that it makes such a difference to one's stay when there are friendly and professional staff who cannot do enough to ensure that your stay is enjoyable. The dinner was delicious and served very tastefully. We just want to Thank all the staff for making our stay at this Hotel so memorable especially Alex who we feel put everything into his job and was trying to keep all the guests happy. Thank you. Our weekend spent at Normanton Park hotel was lovely in so many ways. The fortunate weather, the glorious setting and meeting of family and friends. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with lovely views. The meals and general service were very good despite being a little understaffed on the Friday afternoon/evening. I would like to mention Anett, Sergiu, Cherry, Flori, Andra, and Wayne for there good nature and hard work in making our visit and the whole wedding experience memorable.

Arrived to book into room and paid by credit card for one night's stay. Then discovered to my surprise that payment had already been taken 3 days previously. Then had problems having now paid twice getting the front desk person or aggressive manager to look at my bank statement on my phone to prove what had happened. They claimed to have no record of my payment they took the previous Saturday ( this was Tuesday) and eventually refused my entry to the hotel claiming that I was rude and refunded the payment I had just made. They had no wish to refund the first payment they had taken and said I would have to contact Best Western Hotels. I left the hotel and had to find an alternative place to stay at short notice. The manager was rude and aggressive in the extreme and claimed that I had poor body language and despite my offered apology for any offence made by myself, asked me to leave. He kept shouting me down when I tried to explain what had happened leaving me unable to speak. This has to be the worst behaviour I have ever experienced at a hotel anywhere. Do not on any account stay at this hotel whilst this aggressive human being remains in charge.

A must stay hotel in a beautiful location, at a great price makes this hotel a no brainer. With great walks and biking tracks it's a great place for families, groups or couples to come and relax right on the banks of the water

We had a balcony with views of the setting sun over the lake. The staff work hard to make your stay comfortable. You can park near your room. It would have been great to stay 2 nights here. We would recommend unreservedly

We stayed at this hotel with a group of biker friends after a rideout to end the day with a BBQ that had pre arranged, book and paid for at £20 a head. They have a beautiful garden at the back of the hotel where we thought it be held but no we had food that was served up in metal trays that had clearly been cook in an over, sausages that weren't real sausages with a side salad and a bit of coleslaw. This cost £20 a head and we only had one buyer and one sausage each, in antones book this would seem an extortionate amount to be charge for what we got. We had this served to us in the dining room which had doors that opened up onto the carpark with a few tables outside. Also the hotel clearly has a drainage problem as when you took a shower which was over the bath the bath filled u with water. The rooms weren't cleaned properly and we all seem to have the same problems when talking to each other. This hotel is looking very tired in the guest rooms and bathrooms. It needs maintenance work as well as a lot of tlc.

This hotel is lovely on the outside and in a lovely location But the rooms could do with a lot of maintenance and tlc. The food we had was of poor quality and my teacup at breakfast was dirty and had to be replaced. The hotel seems to have snm overall problem with drainage in the bathrooms and cleaning was substanded

Great stay with family looking over Rutland water. Staff were very helpful and kind, especially: Cenasela, Amdna, Loni. Both breakfast and dinner were very nice. Would recommend to friends and family.

My Husband and I were gifted an afternoon tea - from start to finish we were warmly welcomed and were given a lovely table in the conservatory with stunning views of Rutland water. We were impressed by the kind and attentive service given by staff - Gabby , Amett, Amdna, Peter and Floni.Nothing was too much trouble for this lovely team. The portions were very generous and the staff kindly gave us a container to take some of the cakes home as we couldn't eat them all! The sandwiches were as fresh as a daisy and so generously filled . The cakes were a lovely mix and we enjoyed beautiful freshly baked scones with Cornish clotted cream and jam - they were warm from the oven so delicious! We sent our compliments to the chef and he kindly came out to thank us - such a nice thing to do . We will be returning soon and we look forward to a meal also.

Perfect location excellent food wonderful service friendly helpful staff . On the edge of Rutland Water perfect for walks boat rides cycling or just sitting in the garden overlooking the Lake. Pay a bit extra for a Lake View room. Lovely restaurant service was perfect food was excellent. Breakfasts were also very good. Very helpful friendly staff included Amdra, Marcelima & Mike

My honest please note this is only my Opinion. Arrived early was served by a young man who said wasn't booked in and no tables ready . He said would set one which took a while to do but and advised to sit on the longe area . Which we did he did keep coming back and apologising that wouldn't be much longer . Was waiting about 15 mins past time of what we thought was our booking with our reservation time on it with time booked with our email and was confirmed for table to be set Due to our needs. Ordered two normal and two glutton free as one person bin out party couldn't have glutton . Was offered hot drinks. And shown to table . Afternoon tea came out. And asked which was which the sandwiches came out a good 10'mins before the cakes . There was plenty of cakes (if anything two many cakes however with the glutton free afternoon tea x2 most of them had glutton in them so the one person coudnt have I would have thought a glutton free afternoon tea would have been a full glutton free afternoon not bits . Review of cakes all didn't taste. Very nice and was dry. . Staff tryed and was helpful but let down by quality of food . I now didn't pay a vast amount . But. I would rather have had less and better than what I felt was cheap and dryed out cakes So afternoon tea Sandwich's . A couple each yes we had some that was glutton free but bread was steal and dry Than had cakes 4/5 differnt types 2 was glutton free only Scone was dry and not glutton free Overall food if wanted a lot yes Quality. Poor for food Service good Location - poor disabled parking but views good Cleanness - clean but in need of update as old and tried

We visited the Normanton Park Hotel for one night after spending the evening on a cruise on the Rutland Belle. I was apprehensive after reading some of the reviews but we had a lovely time. Our room (Ashwell) was clean and roomy, the bathroom sparkling with nice toiletries. The bed was comfortable and we had a good night's sleep. We went for breakfast at 9am, plenty of choice of cereals, cold continental buffet and fruit. We went for the hot buffet, the eggs were cooked freshly for us just how we liked them. The mushrooms had obviously been there for a while but everything else was fine. I couldn't resist a Danish pastry and husband had a croissant and marmalade. The service in the restaurant and reception was excellent. The hotel is in a wonderful location with plenty of seating to enjoy the views, we will recommend it to any friends and family visiting the area.

Arrived Sunday evening in time for dinner. Ordered pan fried cod as did my colleague from an otherwise 'Sunday Dinner' menu. The cod had clearly not seen a frying pan - was grey and the skin was not charred in any way. The roast potatoes were likely from a frozen selection or at worse rewarmed from lunchtime. The vegetables were poorly prepared - clearly the chef was not at his best that evening - the waiter was embarrassed and offered to discount the bill by the cost of a pint of lager only. Rooms were clean but tired and needing tic. The staff were friendly but unorganised. Such a shame for a hotel with a beautiful location

Situated on the banks of Rutland Water this is a very nice Hotel but understaffed and food fell short of our expectations. Breakfast looked as though it had been cooked hours before and was only just warm - only one staff member on duty trying to cater for guests and re stock

Hotel is lovely with stunning environment,beautiful views. Is let down badly with restaurant Breakfast included in price and restaurant breakfast times 7-9.30am At 9.05 the buffet was almost empty with only some tired looking sausages left When more food was requested was told there was no more !

Ensure to ask for none dog friendly room if you are not bringing your pets. Our stay was ruined by lack of sleep due to noisy dog in adjacent room. Could not fault staff or other areas including plenty of parking.

The location is truly outstanding, right on Rutland Water, grounds and building are beautiful. This earned the hotel the stars Room - had a view of lake but really run down room, large frayed rip in carpet, mildew on bottoms of curtains and marks on walls from squashed bugs. Basically needs total refresh and just made you feel unclean. Staff - individuals were great but badly understaffed, you could feel the stress. Wedding - had wedding at venue, very loud Disco near room until midnight - ruined our sleep. Think you should be told about this sort of thing.

A very nice hotel situated on the edge of Rutland Water with good walks for the dogs and many activities in which to partake. Excellent breakfast and a good selection of meals and/or snacks at night. Will look forward to our next visit.

Location is amazing, ideal for a relaxing break. For me the only let down was the ed, it ws very hard and the pillows not much better. Didn't use the in house restaurant facilities so cannot comment on those.

What a beautiful place to get married! Staff absolutely amazing, food was delicious, room was small but big enough for two and a small dog, can not fault them, happy friendly staff, very approachable, beautiful stay!

Attended wedding here. Rooms are spacious clean and very up to date, bed very comfy. Staff are fabulous they dont just give 100% they give 1000%. Food was absolutely delicious. Couldn't pick a more fabulous venue for a wedding

Booked in advance and was allocated room with balcony overlooking the lake. Very comfortable. Generous hospitality tray and toiletries. Breakfast was good with a good selection of hot or cold choices. Staff we're extremely welcoming and friendly. Would book again and recommend.

Travelling around in our campervan we wanted to stay 1 night with a little luxury, our family consists of my husband and I and our two small fur babies, as this hotel is dog friendly we thought it would be perfect, how wrong was I, we felt penalised for having our dogs and put in a room in the car park. They charge for the extra clean for dogs so why can we not have a luxury room? yet our room was very cold, tired, and certainly didn't look like the room in pictures. If your dog friendly then give us the same rights and rooms as others not put us in the court yard (car park) I just wanted 1 night in a luxury room.

The hotel is in a beautiful setting and is perfectly located for a trip around Rutland Water. We took our bikes and had a great day cycling. Plenty of parking available. The first room we were given, 6, was really disappointing, quite grubby, blind filthy, remote and phone dirty and wall paper ripped - however we were informed when we rang reception regarding another matter, we had actually been placed in the incorrect room. The new room was a big improvement, cleaner with a better bathroom and although still a little tired (paint work, blind) it was perfectly adequate. We had an evening meal, which was nice and all the staff were exceptionally friendly. I would definitely stay here again, as although tired in places the price was competitive and the location fabulous.

We had a lovely evening with friends and we have booked again for next year, but there accessibility room leaves a lot to be desired. Shower room and toilet very user friendly. No adequate disabled parking, cobbled path to room terrible for wheelchair user, entrance to room unable to push wheelchair into. Only entrance to get into function room far to steep. Fortunately I could get out of wheel chair and use walking frame which I don't usually take with me. Spoke to duty manager in the morning after breakfast before leaving. He apologised for inconvenience, he said council would not let them change cobbles in path to room. I explained that there should be an accessibility statement listing potential issues.

Lovely surroundings, room very clean and excellently prepared for our stay, staff very polite and helpful. This was a short Winter break, would love to visit in the summer and enjoy the scenery from the gardens and rooms.

We had our wedding reception at Normanton park hotel and I can't recommend this venues enough. We had the most amazing day and it was all thanks to the wonderful staff. They went above and beyond to make our day so special. The rooms and food were fantastic

Booked afternoon tea for my partner's birthday suprise a few weeks ago as the reviews looked good and location beautiful. Staff very friendly, and our waiter very helpful, tea was served along with the stand that had finger sandwiches, cakes and 2 scones on, this all looked and tasted very nice, I also added 2 glasses of prosseco to the offer to add that special touch. We had to sit in the clocktower restaurant as there was a wedding on in the conservatory which would of been amazing to look over Rutland water, my partner enjoyed the experience, I paid £19.95 each for this.

We chose this hotel for a reunion trip for 4 couples from different parts of the country to all meet and celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversaries, all celebrated in 2020 and 2021 It is in a delightful location right on the banks of Rutland Water.

Over all a brilliant couple of days the food was great and the staff ensured that the day went smoothly and was enjoyable. The price of drinks was a little high and the choice was a little low but over all I was happy with the stay

This is a terrific location and very good value for money. The people who care for you are brilliant people. Rooms need some tlc. The short walks from the hotel are so lovely, along the water. I especially liked the very short walk to the church.

We had a lovely 3 night stay at this hotel, the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was a good size , and breakfast was good. We did have rather an invasion of Ladybirds during our stay, but this was probably down to the time of the year. Access and location makes this one of the best places to stay whilst visiting Rutland Water, lovely and quiet and reception were very accommodating and helpful . We will certainly be visiting this hotel again. A nice little touch which many places don't bother with, was complimentary bottles of water in our room, and a couple of packets of good quality biscuits also provided on a daily basis

What a gorgeous setting, right on the edge of Rutland Water, and obviously a popular place to meet up & take refreshments. Could be an amazing hotel, but as mentioned in other reviews, it's very tired & needs a fair bit of money spending on it. Can't vouch for rooms as we only had lunch, but come on BW, put some investment in to it. However, having said that, lunch was excellent & the staff we met were very welcoming, helpful & professional. Something to be proud of. Thank you for making our visit so pleasant.

The bed rooms are very poor and some old and in need of an update. Our room was dirty so clearly not seen a cleaner, mattress worn out, holes in the walls, dirty windows and pull down blind and stained pillows. All of the building needed a good dust and lots of cobwebs so I don't know what the cleaners do but they don't clean. They have a lovely garden but at night I was told the outside lights have not worked in a long time so clearly not been repaired.. nice looking building in the outside but prob 2 stars or less inside. Would not use again.

Trip was for wedding and 1 night stop over, the staff, were very helpful and professional the hotel bar restaurant and hotel location were fantastic the accommodation was awful, rooms were in need of decorating cleaning updating beds dirty linen needs to be replaced, for £110 bed and breakfast you don't mind paying if rooms were decent

It was a nice find after a long walk-setting very relaxing- tables in the beer garden spaced well apart- lovely views of the water-lots of trees -enjoyed our drink at a pleasant spot- would return when next in area.

Reading through many of the poorer reviews, it is sad that there has been so many excuses but not enough action..Clearly management need to start listening...spend some money on the pitiful rooms..tired and bland, flies, smelly, dusty,light not working, window not shutting properly, the quilt was as flat as a pancake and mouldy...I left it on show but room service didn't bother changing it...have you given up?

We have just enjoyed another visit to this hotel and truly enjoyed it's fabulous setting by the waterside, what a stunning place to escape to for a little break with walks and cycling right on the doorstep and fabulous countryside to enjoy. The staff were very attentive and an exceptionally good breakfast was served up in the Clock Tower Restaurant. We are already planning our next visit

The food was very good. The room was in poor decorative order. There were cobwebs everywhere and it looked dirty. An old sofa in the room which looked dirty. Bathroom shabby. Some of the sockets in the room were not working. Which is a worry.

I read the reviews on trip advisor for this hotel and was put off by the amount of negative comments, but I still booked as we had good experiences with Best Western before. The hotel is in an amazing location right on the edge of the reservoir. Our room was one of the courtyard family rooms because we had our dog with us. The room is on the ground floor with only a couple of steps into the main room which is of a good size with a large double bed and a single. It has a large tv over a desk with kettle and cups. A mirrored built in wardrobe with ironing board and iron. Through to the on suite bathroom with over bath shower. The room was looking like it could do with a refit but was still an acceptable standard. Warning the water is very hot. The hotel staff are all very friendly and helpful, the food in the restaurant was very reasonably priced and the liver and bacon was to die for. We didn't have breakfast so can't comment. The thing that we came for was the walks around the reservoir and the views and it certainly delivered.

This beautiful place in a amazing location has been neglected by owners!! Normantan park hotel is under BW but obviously been franchised It must have been a beautiful hotel one time but can see signs of being neglected Chipped paint , awful windows in bedroom that looked like not been cleaned for long time, The bathroom tiles need grouting and doors needs to be painted cracked tile in the garden needs replacing The staff here works are plesent and works really hard but are under staffed. The bar is poorly run as at times there's no one to serve and you could wait and wait for ages to be served. Outside in the garden, there's dirty glasses on the tables that don't get collected and the tables most of the time are not clean .. I feel sorry for the staff as they are trying to do amazing job ! Positive- beautiful location ! A view of the lake is amazing and you only have to step outside the gate and can walk for miles round the lake. There's a beautiful little church that holds weddings and you also catch a boat that takes you round the lake Food here is good,the hot breakfast and lovely lunches are very enjoyable. We were lucky the weather was good three day we stayed here and spent most of the time walking or sitting in the garden in the evening watching birds flying round the lake. I would come back but wish the owners would take responsibility of upgrading this wonderful place.

We stayed here for a function and was very disappointed with the service at the hotel, the decor and cleanliness. Very old and dirty. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned for years. The food wasn't anything great not worth the money.

The hotel is in a fantastic location for the lake and a perfect wedding venue which was the purpose of my visit. The check in and out was very simple although we did receive mixed information regarding breakfast times. The first impressions of the hotel was pleasant but when you start to look deeper you realise it could do with a good clean. There were many cobwebs around the ceiling including in the bedroom. Overall a good hotel which needs a bit of attention and is over priced

Paid £110 for garden room. The view was of garden waste and long grass. Room was like going back 40 years. Musty, basic and small. Could hear every noise from the rooms around us. Very disappointing as the setting is beautiful but the hotel itself is really poor. Food is Of a shocking standard. Massively over priced.

Booked only the previous morning, this 2 night stay was meant to be a relaxing short first ever visit to Rutland. Unfortunately this fell when weddings were taking place on both the Thursday and the Friday, both day and night occasions. No sleep for my wife on night one, the room being pretty much directly above the function room, and no sleep for me night two after being moved into a “quieter” annexe. I doubt that the staff expected the jacuzzi above to be constantly run between 1.30 & 2.30 am however! The staff were most apologetic on both mornings, as was the manager when he saw me later the second day. The receptionist who took our booking apologised profusely for not having contacted us immediately after taking our booking, and a £50 partial refund was offered and accepted. The rooms themselves were ok, but a little tired, whilst all staff were excellent as was our meal in the restaurant on the first night. We didn't bother with the “grab bag” type continental breakfast. Ours at Barnsdale Gardens cafe one morning saw us through the day!

Stopped for some sandwiches while walking round Rutland Water. We had cheddar and pickle on brown bread, and ‘melting mozzarella' on brown. Both came with crisps and a little salad. They were £8.50 each. A bit disappointing as the bread was standard out of a packet brown bread, nothing fancy, and the melting mozzarella was cold! Probably should have been charged no more that £6.00 per plate. It was okay, but not worth what was charged. Would be easy to up their game with some artisan bread.

Where to start? There is so much that was wrong with our stay. Staff were rude on more than one occasion, the food was pretty awful, food service poor, the rooms are in bad condition, could do with a serious update. The rooms have no sound proofing at all, we were in a room above the bar with music blaring and lots of shouting until gone midnight. Breakfast is apparently not being served at the moment but when we left there were customers having breakfast? Would not recommend at all.

Having walked for 4.5 miles around Rutland Water we saw a sign for Normanton Hall and in need of a drink and something to eat was delighted, especially when the sign outside states- Open All Day for breakfast, lunches, afternoon teas and bar snacks- perfect! However on entering there was no one to be seen, bar area unattended and having circled the building for at least 4 minutes trying to see where we could be served, we arrived back at bar, this time it was attended. We asked for a bar snack and drink and was told they had stopped serving food at 3pm , time now 15. 07 pm. We said we only wanted a sandwich but again was told no food, despite the kitchen still working as we had discovered on our travels around building. The young lady said we could talk to her manager, who was standing at the till. The manager did not bother to face us or offer an apology first, but started waving his arms about saying he couldn't as they were busy. There seemed to be no discretion or flexibility, not wanting a full 3 course meal only a sandwich and having read outside - open all day for food, no mention of time limits to this. I left disgusted not bothering with even a drink due to the manager's attitude. Surely Best Western hotels have a customer service policy( and staff training it) and bearing mind the last 12 months would welcome customers with open arms through their doors .

Price was way too high for the room. The bed was solid and could feel the springs. Handles missing from the drawers and room full of dust and cobwebs. No attention to details when cleaning. Poor staff were rushed off their feet and struggled to keep up with breakfast replenishment. £120 for one night is not acceptable when budget hotels offer a better service. I feel that it takes advantage of wedding guests that have no other option than to stay. The grounds were immaculate and a beautiful view of the reservoir but bedroom upgrades are definitely needed!

Firstly the view is amazing as is the sun set but that is about it I am afraid to say. We luckily only stayed for 1 night, that was enough. Our bedroom looked like an old cupboard, the walls were really grubby, there was a hole in the ceiling, the blind and curtain had stains all over them, miss matched tiles, towels were hard to the skin, furniture very dated, tiny bathroom (another cupboard) I can't say anything nice about the room! I would never return to stay again. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Tremendous location on the lake side. We had a tired but adequate quiet room in the Courtyard which sounds nice but is in fact the car park and also overlooks rows of laundry trollies and bins - it could be fabulous with a bit of investment but currently is not. The bed was ok but the pillows were dreadful - rock hard with no give at all very uncomfortable, the ben linen was a little rough. The "picnic" breakfast delivered to our door was enjoyable. The Lady on reception was very good. There seemed to be no evidence of any management, the Bar man served me a Gin & Tonic in a plastic cup with just ice no garnish - not what you expect - presumably because we wanted to sit outside but other people who were sitting outside had glasses - it all seemed a bit shambolic and not as covid safe as I would like - the receptionist had a mask on all other staff we came across didn't - but due to being let down by two other hotels we were glad to get any accommodation and this was in a lovely lake facing location with direct access to the lake, I'm sure the staff where trying their hardest in what appeared to be the absence of any management. I'm sure the pandemic and staff shortages haven't helped.

Beautiful view, terrible food. The staff were bickering, the waitress tried to give us someone else's food, the order wasn't available and then they eventually gave us the wrong order after all that. McDonalds is significantly better than what we were served. On a nice day, id maybe order a drink there - but only if I was absolutely parched.

Rooms were dirty, fan in bathroom broken, decor shabby. Too few staff, issues didn't come as a surprise Issues raised weren't fixed other than a quick clean Only plus are the grounds and outside of the building

Just visited Normanton Park Hotel for lunch after a gentle stroll around Rutland Water. We ordered from the bar menu. My wife ordered a ploughman's and when it arrived we couldn't believe how poor it was. They had supposedly ran out ciabatta, so instead covered half the plate with cheap sliced white bread which was dry. We complained and they offered my wife something else, which she accepted. On then waiting over another 30 mins for which by this time I had already eaten alone my wife asked for a refund for which they obliged. They said the chef was just about to start cooking the second meal ordered. Not great! We can honestly say we will not be returning here again. There is much better quality food for the cost within a few miles of Normanton.

We stayed in a very comfortable family room with garden views and it was well serviced. Delicious breakfast and dinner, served in a well-appointed dining room with stunning views overlooking the extensive gardens and Rutland Water. The staff had a relaxed manner but were coping well with the Covid security rules. The hotel is situated in a quiet picturesque country location and it has an interesting history.

Expexted a beautiful room, instead it was tiny and cramped and the ensuite was incredibly small! There was damage to the wall which had been taped up with brown tape Thankful I was only staying 1 night!

Have stayed here several times and in such a beautiful location. On our latest visit, the lady on reception was very friendly and super helpful, thank you! Have always found the rooms to be clean and tidy. With limited mobility, having meals delivered to our room is such an added bonus. Food is delicious and will certainly be trying more of the menu each time we visit in future!

I stayed the night with a bride to be who was marrying at the hotel the next day. The hotel building is beautiful and in a even more beautiful location. Unfortunately we pull up to see the same skip that has been there for weeks and the laundry and beer barrels piled up which really let's down any first impressions of the hotel. We arrived to our dark and gloomy room and stripped back our bed covers to find horrendous stains, black grains of dirt on both beds and a moth in one of the beds. The pillows were also stained. We called the manager to the room who came to see. He did not apologise, although he did arrange for the beds to be remade with clean bedding. There was another member of the bridal party who complained about the same thing. We ate dinner outside in the garden which had stunning views. 8 of us ate and all really enjoyed the food but unfortunately we were not trusted to drink from glassware like other guests in the garden and had to drink from plastic cups. The manager kindly allowed us to set up the venue ready for the special day ahead though he was very polite, he was also very unaccomadating and unempathetic when we asked for things like chairs and tables to be moved. The staff were moving bar tables into the room where the wedding breakfast would be and placing them around the edge of the the room. When we questioned this we were told it was because they had no where to put them. We did end up coming up with a resolution but it took a while to get there. We did struggle to get reasonable answers and reasons as to why they were unable to accommodate some requests. When going back to our room after a long day we tried to get a shower which did not work. But by this point we didn't report it so we had baths instead. At around 10.30pm our electric sockets tripped after a phone charger blew. I found the manager behind the bar to report this to, I didn't get much of a response and his back was turned to press buttons on the till. No one arrived at the room to fix this, resulting in a sleepless night for us knowing we had hair and make up arriving who would need electric. I got up at 6am to find a member of staff, which was a difficulty as reception is not manned and no managers would be available until 8am. I managed to find a chef who fixed the problem on the fuse board outside our room. We can say that the wedding was beautiful and seemless but disappointed we paid £100 for a room and service which needs huge amounts of improvements

We got married in Rutland in 2016 and had our reception here. Since then we've returned on multiple occasions and we are never disappointed. The rooms, food, staff are all brilliant and the location is stunning in all weathers. If you're looking for a gem in Rutland, this is it.

Clean and comfortable stay but Best Western are basic with rather tired looking appliances and decor. Delivered bag of sweet pastry, yogurt, bottled juice for breakfast "due to covid" but their restaurant is open to pay for dinner, seems covid is used as an excuse for cutting corners.

We stayed 2 nights on return from a break in Wales travelling back to Essex and what a superb position Arrived and had sandwich of poor quality on patio and evening meal very average with other guests also not happy Second evening meal much better so perhaps staff issue which was reason given that no breakfast was available other than a brown bag of very poor food. Staff ok BUT Best Western need to consider if the are happy with the quality provided in a hotel of such fantastic potential We really cant understand if they are happy and they are missing a real opportunity here with all travel restrictions in place and most hotels booked up

Beautiful situation but sadly lacking in staff and very poor food. Called for lunch today, had a long wait for drinks, very poor food. Sandwiches very below par, bread stale and content very cheap, won't return.

Having been told the room was the best I the hotel and doubled as the bridal suite our expectations were high at £280 per night we booked for 3nights. Could not believe the terrible condition of the room, dirty delapadated health & safety would have a field day here. Poor brides all surfaces torn or broken windows filthy and the balconies unusable because of dust cobwebs and debris and to add insult to injury breakfast not served but in a carrier bag left outside the door! The setting of this hotel is wonderful the views superb but where are Best Western with this lack of common decent standards?

The hotel is in a beautiful location on the side of the lake. We found the staff to be very polite and helpful,, food was lovely and room was clean and had a lovely view of the lake. Overall we had a really nice stay and would definitely recommend to others and also stay again

Hotel is in a great location but is lacking because of being understaffed and dated rooms , we had no hotter in the morning and at least 1 other guest we spoke to . shower rail was broken too .the for in the restart was good but no breakfast in the resturant odd as we had eaten there the night before . just a low quality continental breakfast delivered to the room .

This isn't a review I thought I'd ever write about this hotel having had lovely stays here in the past. However all that was ruined today. This is a lovely building in a beautiful location and lovely grounds. Inside it's always been a little tired, but we have always loved our stay in the suite, which has the most wonderful double jaccuzi bath. We had two nights booked for may 2021 ( rearranged from covid lockdown bookings) . The suite is in a seperate building to the main hotel, the stairs to this not only had the usual tired look, but obviously hadn't been cleaned as there were fired leaves and other debris all over them. On entering the room, it smelt and looked clean. However when we came to use the bathroom we stepped on broken glass shards on the floor, closer inspection found lots of glass both on the tiled floor in the bathroom and also the carpet of the bedroom, it was literally everywhere. Something must have been broken and only the large bits picked up. This is bad enough in itself, but surely in covid times the place should have an extra deep clean, which it couldn't have done. Reception were helpful and offered to send a cleaner over to sort, we left the room while she was in there, only to return and find she had just scattered it about even more. I'm not sure they have a vacuum as she cleaned it with a cloth and spray only! Returned to reception who was apologetic and explained they had staffing issues, offered to get the manager, but returned saying he had left for the day ( it was 3pm) and wouldn't be back until the next morning. He agreed they couldn't clean the room today, and my request for a refund was not a problem and he instantly did this. As we were leaving, I saw a suited man overseeing some kitchen work, and directing works, I suspect that was the manager but just couldn't be bothered to deal with our issue. I can't fault that they offered a refund, but this hotel needs some serious tlc and investment in carpets and finish, a fancy bath in one room isn't now negating the peeling paint, dirty carpets, wardrobes that won't shut and general lack of maintenance. If best western aren't careful you are going to be left with just a hotel in a nice location that noone actually wants to sleep in.

My stay was for the nights of 12th and 13th May '21. Despite the Clipsham room being fine the WiFi was not operating in the Clipsham Annex on arrival. This was reported to two separate members of staff at Reception at 1600 on the 13th who both undertook to take remedial. It was unfortunate that the WiFi was not brought back on line but more unfortunate that no attempt at an explanation was made. An otherwise enjoyable stay was spoilt by this point of detail.

Firstly I have to say that the staff here were extremely courteous and helpful! Bravo for a sterling effort in difficult times. Without them this would have been a totally different experience. Very hard working people. The building was, from the outside very promising. The room (and indeed the remainder of the place) was ok. Quite tired and in real need of some tlc. Breakfast was an issue but did what it was designed to, despite being basic and delivered in a bin liner to the door every morning. A little more care and flexibility in that regard would have made life much easier. Food in the evenings was more than adequate, although a more varied menu for this length of stay would have been appreciated. Not cheap for what it was. The local area was lovely despite many places being closed due to the restrictions. If you enjoy the outdoors and cycling it will hit the spot. As so often with such chain hotels there is a veneer of class which is let down upon closer inspection. But last comment goes to the staff. Well done! Tough gig!

I was booked in as part of a wedding party. The public rooms were well kept however the bedroom had seen better days. The room was far from spacious-luckily I was by myself or it would have been very cramped. The wardrobe was about 1ft 6 in wide. carpet was threadbare in places. The celling need a good clean. Bathroom had a jacuzzi bath which did not work - they had the maintenance man look at it was not abled to be repaired. There was an automatic toilet seat which did work once I found out how. I repaired the wc cistern which kept sticking and running water. The shower managed to spray water outside of the bath and there was nothing to stop it running into the bedroom. The doors to the balcony did not lock properly and I was woken at 3:30am with them creaking open. There was a strange sort of emergency light in the bedroom that stopped the room from becoming dark when the lights were off. Due to covid the breakfast was in a bag to eat in the room; just enough for two people, not very exciting and you got the same each day. Could have done a lot better. On the plus side the bed was comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

The bedroom had sloped walls which made it difficult to move around the bed. The WC was quite claustrophobic if you don't like small spaces. The "continental" breakfast served left a lot to be desired: - no choice of yogurt flavour, fruit type or plain/fruit muffin was given - so you take what is given. Most continental breakfasts have meat and pastries available - this did not - it seems odd, even in these times of Covid 19 to restrict the choice so much when the restaurant on-site is open for lunch and dinner The setting was very picturesque

The two big signs on the side of Rutland Water welcomed us in for a morning coffee. It was a bit of a walk up to the hotel. When we get there, there is a small sign on the door telling us morning coffee is no longer available and the hotel now only opens from midday. I don't mind the decision to close for coffee- presumably Covid related- but why not cover over the signs? Lazy.

Spent five days at Normanton from the 1st October to 6th October for my 50th Birthday. Absolutely lovely stay. Wayne and Nicola could not have been more helpful to make it as special as they could. The evening meals in the restaurant were delicious and the two waiters were really nice lads. We are both vegetarian, but found lots to choose from. This hotel has one of the best views from the main bedrooms that you could wish for, and please do not listen to the negative reviews, as it is definitely worth a stay. Thank you Normanton for making my 50th so memorable and we hope to come and stay again soon.

Dated, dirty, noisy, emergency lighting in room lighting up the room all night. Electric Bidet with a mouldy sprayer. Got moved rooms To hot . Crap Continental in a bag breakfast. Would avoid like plague. Only good point is evening food was lovely and nice view from room we got moved to.

We took my mother down to visit a friend who had moved to Rutland and stayed at this hotel - had two good 'named' rooms. Despite the restrictions around Covid 19, we had a good meal in the conservatory (the restaurant being closed). Not keen on the breakfast as it was a pseudo continental with milk that was out of date. Will have to come back in the summer to take advantage of the location.

The hotel is in a great location. Lovely walking and cycling area. Unfortunately the hotel is not great. Room looked ok when first walked in. See the pictures of the room. False information, at the top of the menu. Homemade Chunky Chips.In fact, they are frozen. I Informed the staff twice, I did not want frozen chips. But still got them and sent meals back for them to be taken off. Then I was informed that they have never done Homemade Chips, always been frozen.?

Comfortable and clean room with lovely views over nice grounds and a lake. Very friendly and helpful staff. Easy access to hotel which is well signposted .Very good location for exploring the beautiful surrounding area which has a lot to offer. Great trail for cycling or walking by river just yards from the hotel, which is also dog friendly. Would definitely recommend it

We checked in on Wednesday 16th September 2020. The main item of this visit was to celebrate Louise's birthday. The room, with a lake view, gave us a a view never to be forgotten. The location was ideal. giving us the opportunity to walk to Edith Weston, Empingham and North Luffingham, during our short break. Allowing for all the good weather, the local food all available on our walks the best, outstanding part of our stay, were the staff. They were all polite, helpful and very obliging were all of the staff. I know I should not pick out one of the staff, but I am going to select Rosie. She provided a requested bunch of flowers, plus a heart shape of rose petals on the bed. Mant thanks to all members of the staff.

Special thanks to Antonia & Ellis, for such great service...so professional, friendly & helpful. Masks worn, feels very safe. Views are stunning & beautifully maintained gardens...overlooking the water. Decor is a little tired in places....but all very clean. Had a great Afternoon tea there too.... I am so lucky to now live close by & can visit on a regular basis.

We enjoyed 2 nights of top quality sleep in this fantastic hotel with it's excellent restaurant. It's location to the reservoir is perfect being right on the path. Wifi was good as was the phone signal. The garden is a lovely place to sit as it overlooks the water.

Had a sparkling afternoon tea voucher and decided to book a night to have time to enjoy Rutland water. Bit concerned after reading a couple of poor reviews, but our overall experience was a good one and it met expectations for a 3 star. Staff were great, careful to wear masks, friendly,helpful and professional. Afternoon tea fine, great view over the water. Food menu for dinner was limited due to COVID, but there was enough choice. Made to feel welcome and despite being the only two taking a late meal always felt unhurried. Room (The Normanton) was compact, clean, tea coffee, bottles of water, biscuits, comfortable bed, jacuzzi bath, balcony with table and chairs and a nice view over Rutland water. No complaints! As mentioned by others, decor here and there is tired, but not to the point of spoiling the stay. Tip do not sit on the balcony at night with room lights on and doors open. We did and found hundreds of little flying things had filled the ceiling and the white duvet. Also COVID meant check in was not until 4 pm and teas and coffees in the garden are not served until 12 noon. Breakfast is only available as a continental in a bag delivered to your room.

My husband and I have just spent a weekend here with my parents. Both our rooms were a good size and they were clean. My parents had a courtyard room, my husband and I had a room overlooking the lake. The location of this hotel is excellent. It is easy to find, and the views from the hotel are lovely as it is right on the lake, and a short walk from Normanton Church. We had a meal in the restaurant (which looks out on the lake) and all enjoyed what we ordered. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful. We will definitely stop here again.

We went there Sunday morning because we've passed it many times and thought we'd give it a go. It was 11.30 am and hundreds of people were passing by. We sat by a couple drinking coffee on the terrace. The waitress passed us twice but said nothing. My wife went in to order coffee and were told in a very curt style that they don't open until 12.00. When we asked why the people next to us were drinking coffee they said it was because they were very insistent. The Long and short of it is avoid it before 12.00 and given the crappy attitude I'd avoid all afternoon too. After all they must have plenty of cash or they'd open earlier so they don't need yours. I Sent my comments to their Customer Services, but they didn't even reply so they obviously don't care either

Worst experience ever. Chose superior room. Turned out to be dirty, cob webs, blind broken, scums in the bathroom, no hot water and most uncomfortable bed.... this even during covid 19 how appalling Management were not even bothered Poor customer service #

Great location, but a little tired. We pitched up for an afternoon tea with bubbles. Sandwiches. Scones and cakes very tasty. Lack of tea choice (no Earl Grey?) and the normal tea that came was weak and watery. Prosecco also lukewarm and from a previously opened bottle by the looks of it as it was pretty flat. However the quality of service and ambience were good and the delicious food give this a 4 rather than the 3 or less that the drinks deserved.

Very good 3 night stay August bank holiday weekend. Comfortable room with lake view. Fantastic setting with direct access to Rutland Water. Staff very helpful and suitable adaptations made for Covid. Breakfast could have been more flexible with choice of contents. Dinner was restricted menu but still enough choice for a 3 night stay.

The location of this hotel is superb for walks around Rutland Water and day trips to Oakham and Stamford. The hotel is very tired and really needs a refurb! We stayed in the Empingham family room which is advertised as being in a courtyard. In actual fact it's the car park and reception area! The room smelt very damp, had dead flies and moths in the windowsil and cobwebs next to the bed. There is only one beside table next to the double bed although there was room for two. The alarm clock didn't work and there is not enough storage space for three people. There are no drawers and the wardrobe isn't tall enough to fit ladies dresses. The windows are single glazed so noise from the car park was heard also the walls are very thin so people in the next room could be heard talking and using the bathroom. If staying for more than one night there is no housekeeping which is very odd given the current covid situation. Although they serve evening meals, lunches and afternoon teas they do not serve breakfast only offering a £5pp continental option which you could order to your room which again I found odd. Great location but not worth £80 per night!

Due to Covid we decided to have a couple of days away in the UK. We chose Rutland Water because it wasn't too far from home. What a gorgeous place, right on the water. The hotel is in the perfect spot. Social distancing and masks were required but that's good. Our room was a courtyard view. It was clean and comfy. We would definitely go again.

After booking a table 3days in advance for my wife's 40th birthday, We arrived at Normanton park hotel and went to reception to booking in for our meal. They directed us to the bar and restaurant area, while we waited for a table we brought a drink, and sat in the waiting area for our table. After 20-25 mins not one member of staff acknowledged us, this was very frustrating for myself and my wife, and even more so it was supposed to be a very special meal. In the end we couldn't wait no more and walked out back to reception, to be greeted with a member of kitchen staff placing an order on the phone, and still no acknowledgement, no receptionist was present either, in the end we just walked out, I certainly wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, I'm very upset with this and will not be returning at all. Ive only gave it a one star because of the views of the lake.

Perfect family stop on a walk around Rutland Water. A lovely place to eat and view the lakeside. We were made very welcome and our waiter was excellent. Children's menu and a good selection Of light bites or larger meals, hot or cold for adults . Very clean throughout and the toilets were spotless. Plenty of sanitizer around the place. Remember your mask for public areas. Thank you all.

Arrived at 13:50 for a 14:00 check in as stated on the booking confirmation. Told very abruptly that we were too early and check in is 16:00 (seems very late). When I showed the confirmation I was told "oh well the rooms aren't ready. Wait in the bar". Not a very nice welcome.

Beautiful setting not so beautiful stay. Lovely welcome on arrival but it went down hill from there. Wasnt advised that due to covid 19 there was no housekeeping. Spa bath spit out black gunk and hairs. No clean cups/glasses/towels for 3 days. No rubbish collected either which by the end of our stay was a health hazard. Ate in the restaurant, food average and bar/waiting staff less than friendly. Wouldn't go back again.

We visited this hotel yesterday afternoon after an enjoyable stroll around Rutland water .Unfortunately the hotel did not live up to expectations of its lovely surroundings . The food was of very poor quality and presentation was dire . The staff appeared disinterested and indeed overcharged me by exactly £7. To be fair the manager rectified the problem with the bill quickly however he was only able to do this because I asked for my receipt at the time of purchase which is not itemised . The hotel's furnishings looked tired and need of updating . This hotel is in a lovely area and I suspect lack of immediate competition has lead to complacency . Do yourself a favour take a picnic .If you do go get a receipt and check your bill carefully ..

Location great over looking Rutland water, welcome at hotel was a little cold (Victor meldrew) was on duty. However the bar and restaurant staff made up with there warm and friendly approach. Food simple but pleasant reasonably priced. With the current COVID concerns there was plenty of room inside and in the garden to keep our distance from fellow guests

Whilst we were not Hotel residents, we called in for a dog-friendly Coffee and ended up staying for lunch. The alfresco dining in the gardens is tranquil & idyllic. The food and drinks were excellent and good value for money too. The young, local staff were all polite, friendly & professional. Highly recommend a visit here if you're in the area, we'd even say it's worth traveling to from further afield.

Booked to stay at this hotel with my fiancee for a friends wedding. We were given numbered room (5) which after approaching it through a claustrophobic corridor, was very cramped, stuffy and looked as if the sheets hadn't been changed in a while.In addition due to the eaves and layout in the room, there was a danger of hitting your head when using the loo at night. Appreciate this isnt a 5 star hotel but expect a simple clean comfortable room. At best this should be single occupancy but not fit for a couple. We asked at reception to be moved only to be abruptly refused and told the hotel was fully booked. Checked online and 4 rooms were available. Decided to leave and stay somewhere better and which turned out was also far less than was charged for this room. This hotel could be so great especially given its location. Its just a shame its seems so poorly managed with such little care.

We visited for lunch following a bike ride around Rutland and wanting to take in the views over lunch . Disappointed to find table wasn't clean when sat down, and when ordered food was incorrect. The burgers looked like they had been reheated and not changed when we sent them back and think they were off the kids menu and not the adults as originally requested. It's a beautiful location but unfortunately the food and cleanliness didn't live up to expectations.

We stayed here for a night before heading off to a mini break we had booked. Not doing our research of the hotel before we came, looking at it as a place to put our head down for the night before heading off again.. we we utterly surprised when we turned up. The views are fantastic! Yes the rooms are a little dated, the food was ok, and was a small issue with the bill that the hotel team fixed easily. But don't let these things put you off, they were all very minor and for the price and post COVID-19 world we live in all to be somewhat expected. The good bits: - The staff were fantastic! - The views and location - The reasonable prices They provide a drop off breakfast at the moment to your door in the morning to keep things safe during post lockdown rules. While we would have preferred a standard breakfast, this is a small sacrifice to make during this stage of “new normal”. Our only recommendation to the hotel would be to offer a pot of brewed coffee with this, as being coffee snobs, instant (which is provided) doesn't hit the spot. That being said the hotel were very accommodating and allowed us to get a fresh coffee, thanks to their excellent staff. P.S. we stayed during the Neowise comet, allowing some amazing photos from just near the hotel.

Very happy we chose to stay at this hotel. We had a double superior room (Stamford) with Juliet balcony with a beautiful view overlooking the water. The hotel does need some updating but we would definitely stay here again. Only serving the bar menu at the moment but still enough choices. Look forward to returning when hopefully there will be less restrictions although this did not spoil our stay and the staff were very friendly.

Excellent Location, Some Rooms allow Dogs, great views from the Restaurant over the Water, with great walks. Plenty of places to visit nearby, e.g Oakham and Stamford. The Courtyard Garden Restaurant at The George Hotel in Stamford is Excellent, but pricey. If you like Sailing this is the place to go.

This hotel is quaint,historic and set on the shores of Rutland water,you're woken by bird song and nature is never far away.not being able to try the menus is a shame Covid affects everything,the staff I have meet are both friendly and attentive,as much as is allowed.cant wait for the restrictions to lift,so I can try the resplendent foods

My husband and I stayed for 1 night at the beginning of march. The stay was absolutely awful. The room smelt of raw sewers and when we reported it to the bar manager..as he was the only person available he was not interested at all. He simply told us they were full and nothing he could. I have worked in a hotel so I fully understand if there was no rooms available however he didnt even come up to the room to see for himself how bad the room smelt. It made me and my husband feel sick it was that bad. We wasnt even offered any air freshener!!! Not that it would of made a difference but some acknowledgment and offer of this would of been nice. The hotel is undergoing renervation...which was going on until past 10:30pm with electric saws and generators right outside our room!! So we had to have a drink in the restaurant where other guests were eating and there was no where for us to sit and relax after driving almost 4 hours to get there. The room wasnt an option to sit and relax in with the smell. Upon check out which was done by the GM after informing him of our poor stay and the stench in the room, he simply offered an apology and was told to email him. I felt this was poorly dealt with and will not be returning and certainly wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Location is great...Staff are the best you could ask for...however they are working with a worn out Hotel that has poor rooms, paper thin walls, no loo brushes ! Poor in and out internet, no USB for charging, TV works now and then, during my stay 2 couples simply walked out the poor staff are working with a hotel that offers plenty but can provide very little one needs or would expect.If you don't want Internet, if your happy with scruffy..go ahead the staff are perfect..it stops there, would never stay again

We arranged to meet members of the Family for lunch at this hotel, being a half way point between them. It was a terrible mistake. The service was slow, the staff disinterested and the food was mediocre at best. The soup was unidentifiable (supposedly mushroom), the bread rolls were stale and the fish and chips had seen better days. Every restaurant has a bad day and we can only assume this was their's. We would have been far better going to the Falcon in Uppingham were the standards are consistently higher and which is where we will go next time.

Recently returned from a stay here, and was rather concerned at the negative recent comments, but bearing in mind that this is a three star hotel, we were happy with our stay. We did have a named room, so don't know what the less expensive rooms are like but the cleaning was perfectly adequate ( and i am fussy), and the room was warm once we had turned on the radiator. An extra blanket was supplied on request, but we didn't need it. Breakfast varied between slow service and good, but the porridge was dire, and the scrambled eggs rock hard. There was a power cut in the kitchen, (not their fault), so no evening meal availability on the first night The view from the conservatory where breakfast was served was stunning, overlooking Rutland water and the gardens.

I guess we were unlucky as a tranquil stay was not how our trip panned out. The room as small as it was was functional although I understand that it is an old building but the window frames rotting in the bathroom it would seem let in far to much wind very chilly. Breakfast was excellent very much the star of the show with a vast selection of hit and cold food unlimited supply of tea and coffee great service. The restaurant is simply overpriced, food not bad but £23 for a steak? And £7 for a cheese board that to be honest had about a £1 of cheese. My advice have the bar menu the food although again far to expensive but much more for your money. The bar and lounge area was where issues began to arise with a party of guest with a number of children who were clearly taking over half the hotel. Is it really acceptable to allow children to run around shouting annoying other guests playing hide and seek? Completely spoilt our nice quiet afternoon And please no proper Gin glasses? But I guess you get what you pay for but I did expect better

Perfect setting I can't wait to visit again in the summer with the children, breakfast wasn't amazing but isn't a bad price The hotel itself could probably do with a bit of a refresh on the decor in places but that's just being picky

We visited this restaurant after we chose it as a potential venue for our daughters naming ceremony. Despite emailing and sending two facebook messages, no one replied so we thought we would pop for a lunch and ask someone at reception. We turned up and entered reception. No staff to be seen. We waited with our children for ten minutes before giving up and heading into the lounge. The staff member behind the bar pointed us in the direction of the conservatory. We sat down and asked for a high chair. Sadly this was dirty from the last child who used it and there was no staff immediately available to help us. We ordered our food and the staff were miserable, no smiles or polite conversation at all. When a lady near us asked advice on ingredients the reply was "not sure". Our food came and it was so greasy; further the 'homecooked chips'had obviously been cooked and then refried -yuck. We were further put off by the fact one waiter was filthy and the hygiene measures for cleaning the tables were poor. For example,when a table left the waiter just shook out the place mats and relaid the table. We were shocked that they failed to even wipe the table. We were put off and decided not to eat our food. Sadly no staff noticed or checked up on us to ask if we were okay or if we wanted any more drinks. Very poor all round and we will not be returning.

We were on a walk around Rutland Water and this seemed an ideal place to stop for a spot of lunch. The bar area was quite small, but cosy and the menu looked good. We ordered parsnip soup, and a smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich, which came with a side salad and crisps. Unfortunately there was no draught bitter, our usual choice of drink. We had draught stout instead. The lunch was good and just adequate in terms of portion size. The staff were were busy and not particularly welcoming, though the bar staff were attentive.

The most dirty hotel I‘ve ever stayed. It looks like they don't bother themselves with changing sheets. I arrived very late and therefore I didn't try to change the room. Next time I definitely will stay somewhere else.

Spent just the one night here this time, very nice welcome from the lady on reception. stayed in The Oakham Room, which was very clean and smelt fresh. Breakfast was served in the conservatory, and we were well looked after by the breakfast waiter Thank you

Excellent parking facilities, super friendly staff,food is excellent. Rooms are dated but comfortable. Lovely roaring fire within the bar. Bar is well stocked and the hotel is animal friendly. Breakfast was self service with a choice of cooked breakfast, continental option available.Hotel is no fuss and peaceful.

Just stayed there for a 2 day Xmas break. Accommodation poor, food poor, service non existent, only good thing about the place is the view. Glasses in bar were dirty & windows needed cleaning. We were ripped off for what we got.

The area this hotel is set in is beautiful a few hundred yards to the waters edge and about 10 minutes walk to the church and a tea and snack shack, a little further a the Giants cycle shop is there were you can hire a bike . The hotel its self is really warm and welcoming with great staff.

I booked this hotel to stay at with my 10 year old son. In the run up to the stay the hotel called and checked if I would like to make a dinner reservation. What they 'forgot' to mention was that our room would be vibrating from the music being pumped out at a function they were hosting until gone midnight. If they had told me I would have booked elsewhere.

I had to phone twice to arrange for either Wayne or a member of staff who is apparently responsible for the restaurant bookings over Xmas/Boxing Day to phone me back to take my booking for lunch on Boxing Day for 2 people. On my 2nd call I was told Wayne would phone back later. Two days later he did. Took my Debit card details for the £5ph deposits. 10 days later I recd another call from the female member of staff responsible for the bookings to ask for another £5ph deposit as the first lot hadnt been taken. I paid it. The next call I recd was yesterday from the same staff member asking for the balance for our Christmas Day lunch. I reminded her it was for Boxing Day, which she confirmed this after checking her records. I declined paying any further moneyand cancd our booking as I was not confident they knew what they were doing. The whole thing was so haphazard that I was not prepared to take the chance our lunches wouldnt land up being treated the same. We have booked elsewhere now.

Lovely location with great views over Rutland Water. Hotel building filled with original features - especially in the restaurant - which were lovely to see. Plenty of parking adjacent to rooms/reception. As the hotel was adorned with Christmas lights it looked very welcoming and the reception and lounger area were very comfortable. Interior decorating of individual rooms was a little tired as were the fixtures and fittings - however they were still all in working order. Despite this comment we would happily return due to the location.

I stayed here for a weekend treat with my mum and we had such a great time. The staff were all so helpful and friendly and made you feel very welcome. The hotel is small and cosy in an idyllic location and the quality of the food was wonderful, the whole weekend was extremely relaxing and we cant wait to go back. The one little negative comment would be that the bedrooms were tired and could definitely do with some TLC but the views overlooking the water made up for it.

We booked the dinner bed and breakfast and the a la carte menu was included in the deal. The food was of a very high standard and the staff polite and courteous at all times. Breakfast was excellent too. The room was a large family room with good en suite facilities. The shower was a real power shower

We arrived quite late on a cold, wet evening so driving down the small lanes was a bit harrowing at times! The room we had was a four postered bed - the room and bathroom was clean and spacious, but overall needed a bit of updating. Good value for money though! Breakfast was yummy and the view over the water lovely. A quiet place off the beaten track

This was an exceptional stay. Our room was a little tired but it was one of their cheaper rooms. The hotel and location are beautiful. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. The food at both dinner and lunch was fab. It was fresh and bursting with flavour. Our bed was comfortable and the room welcoming. The bathroom was really good with a fab shower.

Had my mums wedding hosted here at the hotel - Manager/Events co-ordinator could not have been better! Food was fantastic and the views are second to none for the price you pay. Rooms a little dated in places - thought the bed was going to break just sitting on it. Safe to say my fella and I kept it in our pants in hopes not to completely destroy the room. Staff were perfect all around, not a bad word from any of our guests. Thanks so much for making the day special!

Hotel is not too far from the A1 so a good stopover on our way south. A very nice setting right next to Rutland Water. Check in was easy with a friendly receptionist. We went to our rooms which were very nice. One room even had a great view over the water. I understand the building was previously the stables of a stately home. We had a nice light dinner in the bar where the waiters were also very nice. After a good sleep we had breakfast with a great view over the water. Breakfast buffet had a good selection and staff were on hand to help out. Overall a very nice experience in a unique hotel.

Staff are very helpful and pleasant. Good food. Though the decor was a little dated, it was clean. Facilities in room were good. I counted 9 power points in the room, plus the charger in the bathroom.

Possibly the fifth or sixth stay at this hotel. It's the position right on the shore of Rutland Water that is the main attraction of this hotel. Disappointed that we were not given the adjoining rooms that we had booked. Son epileptic so need to have close access. Reception staff did their best to redress their mistake. The decor and decoration in both rooms (in the annex) was extremely ‘tired' and in desperate need of attention. Not really acceptable in this day and age especially considering the cost of the rooms. Apart from one young man the staff were excellent in all respects and eating in the conservatory is an absolute pleasure especially when the sun sets over the Water. We dined at the hotel on both occasions the food being very acceptable.

Excellent ,the decor may be slightly dated but the building is old and decor was befitting,location is stunning eating your breakfast and evening meal overlooking the reservoir is superb.we cycled around the reservoir from the hotel and saved on the car park charge another bonus

We stayed at the Normanton Park for a much needed break away. We arrived to a very tranquil spot, despite the rain on the first day, and were warmly welcomed in. Our room wasn't ready (we were early) so we sat and waited in the small bar/lounge area and had coffee, made by the very professional and very lovely, Serge. (hope that's the correct spelling). The two rooms my friend and I had were quite spacious and a bit dark due to their location with a glimpse out to the lake, and although a little tired looking (the curtains needed a good wash as had gone grey), the beds were comfy and the bathroom was spotless. It was our base, so did not mar our stay at all. It costs a fortune to renovate a hotel so we were mindful that it was our base and not to expect 5 star grandeur which would have cost us much more. The hotel has to be thoroughly recommended for its staff. The friendliness and professionalism of all the staff (even under pressure at breakfast – one lad working on his own) was hugely evident. I think this is what was our most memorable feature about this hotel, and for that we would definitely return. The young ladies on Reception (Rosie particularly) were helpful and smiling (it does help if you extend the same courtesy to the staff), they do their best obviously under short staffed situations. The food in the restaurant was excellent. Presented beautifully, and of very good quality. We had no reason to be disappointed with anything that came out the kitchen, especially being such a change not to have to cook ourselves… The drinks were not overly expensive and presented well also. Breakfast was a little busy and some food had shriveled a little under the warmers but it was no trouble at all to ask for fresh to be brought out. Maybe we got up too late ! We had an afternoon tea on the lovely terrace overlooking the water, and in the warmth of a July day, felt as if we could be abroad. From the terrace it's a short stroll to the gate that opens up to the delights of Rutland Water, especially the beautiful little church on the water. Peaceful, tranquil and on the doorstep. The Normanton Park is not a five star hotel but then the price reflects that, so we didn't go expecting full on luxury, but what we did get was a warm friendly welcome, a great base to visit the locality (Stamford is a place we will go back to) and receive some genuine hospitality from the staff, you don't always get that in a five star hotel…. Would definitely stay again, and hope that we would meet the pleasant hard working staff again. By way of this review, we would like to thank them again. I hope they know who we are as we will be back !

I stayed at this place with my family as part of Burley Horse Trial visit . It's a pleasant place to visit outside the hustle and bustle of Burley at this time of year yet close enough . Not the most luxurious place to stay but good value for money . Staff were pleasant and helpful . The place looks a bit tired and can do with an in depth cleaning and a good coat of paint .

Positives - great location over looking rutland water,can walk from the gardens along the lake to the historical Normanton church. Came here with a group of 10 for a family meal, we were sat in the conservatory and although views were lovely the decor was very tired, dusty and lots of wasps dead and alive around! Queued a long time at small bar to get drinks to find a dead fly in one - gross! No real apology but drink was swapped. Food was ok, good pub grub we had a variety of things from menu including children menu, all were ok nothing too special. Overall I'm not sure we would come again unless popping in for a drink in beer garden.

Hotel is tired but in a wonderful spot I've only paid £70 B&B although single occupancy was for two I would suggest that you upgrade to a better room I did get a free upgrade as a reward member but still not brilliant But don't write it off entirely as it is in a great location I only had Fish and Chips in the bar and was ok So just a three star in a beautiful spot you get what you pay for

My wife and I had an overnight stay at the Normanton Park Hotel (Best Western). When we arrived we saw a small heap of rubbish in the carpark, near the entrance, which still hadn't been cleared the following day. We settled into our room only to find that the reading light on one side didn't work – fixed by hotel maintenance. We found later that the TV remote wouldn't work – had to be replaced by a new one. I checked the restaurant, around 5pm, where a group of guests had just seen a rat outside the restaurant door. One said it was either a rat or 'a very large mouse'! The manager confirmed that pest control was calling the next day. One waitress was not friendly and there was confusion over who was serving which table. One meal sent back by a guest (too salty) – he was offered an alternative but didn't eat anything in the end because his friend would have finished eating long before him. My wife's meal was extremely poor (£5 off the bill). No Merlot, despite being in the wine list. The net curtain in our room had black mildew around the bottom. The matresses too hard (little sleep). The paintwork in the corridors needed attention. We chose not to have breakfast there the next day and left early. On the brighter side, the planters and hanging baskets were quite impressive, however, we would never return to this hotel which is a shame because it's in a great location, beside a lake.

We had a three night stay at this hotel which is rated three star. We had dog rooms which were good but could do with an update. The grounds are perfect and right on the shores of Rutland Water, plenty of seating and space. There was no issue with dogs being off lead in grounds and hotel. You have to use bar/lounge for meals though with a dog. It definitely has the potential to be a four star hotel if updated. The only down fall we had was the lack of staff employed and amount of waiting times for service! The food is definitely four star, couldn't fault it and staff were all very polite and helpful.

You pull up and the exterior of the hotel is very pleasing on the eye with beautiful flowers everywhere. The location is just amazing with fantastic views of the lake. Check in was quick and no fuss. We had a courtyard room which was a decent size and nice new tv to entertain the 3 year old in the morning. However the room was tired and could do with an upgrade. Room smelt of damp and their was mould in the windows. The bathroom was not the cleanest at all. Namely the bath and the toilet. The shower head was broken. Having said that it was bearable for 1 night. Bar area was just a mess and cobwebs everywhere but good choice of drinks. Sitting outside in the garden was great though with amazing views and a children's play area. Would I come back to this hotel. Probably not. It has the potential to be an amazing hotel but is just let down by cleanliness. Would definitely come back to Rutland though!!!

I stay here a lot when working in the area, If you don't get a room above the bar it is fine, rooms 3, 4, 5, are the worst. I checked in last time and said I hope don't get room 4, and it was as if they made a effort to be quiet at night, thank you. The food is good, they keep changing from the clock room to conservatory for evening meals. To be fair, the location is excellent but cant walk to next restaurant . Overall if above bar good luck sleeping, they shouldn't really have room up there, lady on reception said to me once, well your company pay lowest rate so this is what you get nice, at least she was being honest lol. If not above bar nice place.

Great location but let down by the cleanliness of the room. Spiders everywhere on the windows behind the TV under the TV in the bathroom on the wardrobes need I say more. Unless you love these creatures, stay away ..

Positive: Nice setting on lake shore. Play area for children. Staff friendly. Negative: Staff seems untrained (had to ask several time for same order, no knowledge of set sunday lunch menue). Dining room floor and celing were filthy. Long waiting time for set sunday lunch menue (2 h). Food is average, meat slices really thin and not tasty. Tried to charge full adults price for the 5 year olds childs menue. No appologies from Management.

Had our wedding reception at Normanton Park Hotel following our service at Normanton Church. It was absolutely perfect. Wayne made the planning and organising stress free leading up to our big day and Adrian made sure everything went smoothly. All the staff are lovely and the bridal suite is beautiful. Highly recommend. The views are stunning.

We made an advance booking for dinner for 12. in most hotels that would be no bother at all. In the bar some members of the group were given a menu and asked to make their selections and some were not. There was not enough chairs for 12 people to site down in the social areas of the hotel. Eventually we were directed to the conservatory dining room. It was freezing cold on a cold wet evening. I found the food was very average.(I had roast breast of chicken), the desert was good. If this hotel is targeted to the wedding trade it does not deliver 'magic'. the exterior of the hotel is beautiful as the former stables of Normanton Hall. Finally they really do not know how to pour a pint of Murphys stout!

On the hottest day ever we were provided with good sevice and helpful staff. As the hotel was busy there were perhaps too few staff on duty and the wedding organiser was working extreamy hard to keep things on track. But overall a very good day was had by all.

Well done Best Western Normanton. The hotel and grounds were gorgeous and the staff were so friendly. Thank you for the two room upgrades as the hotel was quieter being a Sunday stay. The lamb rump was cooked to perfection. Compliments to the chef and the wonderfully polite dinner waiter. Jayne

This hotel is situated on the southern side of Rutland Water, with extensive grounds down to the lakeside path and the water. Delightful, especially as the sun sets to the west. The buildings are attractive, with an annexe building in which our room ( Wing) was located. BUT........ We had booked an accessible room..... but could not see any designated Blue Badge parking anywhere in the car park, certainly not close to the accommodation. The room was a good size, but the decor was a bit dated. The telephone had easy dial large buttons, the bedside lamps were touch sensitive, the toilet was a very hi-tech one with integral bidet - great. But the shower had a 7” step up, which is not great for people with limited mobility. Surprised to find that the ground floor windows had no security devices to prevent intruders. Also, we feel it is inappropriate to leave a list in the rooms showing all the extension numbers of all the other bedrooms - what purpose does that serve? The major problem with the room, however, was the filthy window frames and window sills, especially in the bedroom. They clearly had not been cleaned for weeks - I used wet toilet paper to wipe the debris ( dead insects, dust etc). We ate dinner in the restaurant - again, a very mixed impression. There were no staff in the room when we went in - we had to stand around for several minutes until someone appeared ( the same happened when three other couples arrived after us). I have to say that the windows, set high in the wall above our table were disgustingly dirty. The mezzanine floor, visible from our table, looked like a dumping ground for discarded furniture. The food was actually very good, though the service during the meal was somewhat basic - “ Do you want some bread?”. ( The bread was actually great!). One event summed up the place for us. We had been for a walk along the lake, returning at 5.30pm and noticing that seven of the tables outside had got glasses, dishes etc from the afternoon service on them. When we returned to the same area at 9 pm to admire the setting sun, the same seven tables were still cluttered. Our visit overall was so disappointing - such a shame as the setting is superb and with a parkrun course literally along the hotel boundary, the management are missing out on great potential. The criticisms I have made above could easily ( and cheaply!) be corrected to create a far better customer experience.

this is a wedding venue so music Friday and Saturday till 12.30am ish, we are pensioners and we were happy with this, breakfast is well worth £9 , our room was in a cottage on the lake side top floor room, needs refurbishing, from all the flys squashed on the walls

Normanton Park Hotel on the side of Rutland Water is an idillic setting for a hotel break with the added bonus of being dog friendly. It is ideally located for visiting Stamford, Oakham, Uppingham and many picturesque villages.

We have stayed at this hotel before (2018) and were very pleased and returned in July 2019. However, i am not sure if a change of management or what, but the room we were in this time was not particularly clean. The cleaning staff may be under pressure to get things done perhaps, but I felt as though the cleanliness of the room was poor and as soon as i got home had to throw my clothes in the washer and have a good shower. There were beetles in the room - which was ok, we can put up with that in a country hotel, but the dead bodies were still there after the cleaner had been in the following day. I felt like getting a hoover and some disinfectant and giving the room a good clean. The bed was lumpy and I think they had put another topper on top to rectify, but the bed was pretty old and creaky. The bathroom was ok, very modern and nice tiled floor, but the bedroom itself was the problem. Such a pity because the position of this hotel is wonderful. The breakfast was very well cooked and plenty of it, so no problems there and the reception staff was very nice and friendly. We were only there two nights so stuck it out, as we didnt spend a lot of time in the room and could put up with it for that long. The room was very dated and tired really - again such a shame this place could be wonderful. Obviously there must be a very tight budget and things have been left and not maintained within the hotel rooms. Best Western might allow so much for the hotel to maintain it - but obviously it is not enough. I think if the woman from the TV "Hotel Inspector" series came here, she might be able to bring it back to life.

A fine looking building overlooking Rutland Water. The staff are generally friendly and helpful.The rooms are modern, some have views of the 'lake' others of the carpark. My shower room was excellent, plenty of hot water, all the linen was clean, great wifi and plenty of TV channels. The room did have a small infestation of ants, other rooms were worse apparently. Returning late afternoon I found my room door slightly ajar, seemingly left that way by the cleaners, fortunately I had left nothing valuable in the room, it was concerning as the room opened directly to the outside. I was part of a group booking and the booking had been fouled-up. The hotel denied any responsibility until we provided proof with the email chain. Sensible arrangements and compensation were then arranged, so keep your paperwork when dealing with this lot. During our two night stay there was no sign of management with any kind of overseeing grip. The buffet breakfast was fine for this standard of hotel although the coffee was tepid, so I had tea. Sadly they have plastic straws in the bar and single-use plastic bottles of water in the rooms; the tap-water is fine.

My wife and I spent one night here to visit family and Rutland Water. Having booked, we were informed that there was a wedding that day and there might be some disturbance. Fair enough. We arrived and the outside - an old stable block - looked impressive. We had to wait some time for the receptionist to turn up, but she was polite and efficient. We went to our room along a corridor that had sloping ceilings, which was fine in the light. Our room was 'compact' to say the least. Again sloping ceilings, so my wife, who is shorter than me, had to sleep on the sloping side. I got up during the night to get some air through the window and gave my head a real bang.There was minimal wardrobe space, which was almost completely taken up with an ironing-board. Also minimal storage space. The bathroom was a strange configuration with a large, white block in front of you as you entered on which was a heated towel rail. This, the basin and the shower were crammed into one side of the bathroom leaving a large empty area that would appear to have once contained a bath. To use the loo paper where it was,one had to be a contortionist. The room was so hot that we hardly slept as we had to keep the window open all night. On the other hand, breakfast was very good and we have no complaints about that at all. The grounds and the proximity to Rutland Water are excellent and so good for watching birds - and rabbits!. It is a pity about the room that was well overpriced for its size and comfort. On the website other rooms looked much better, but I can only comment on the one in which we stayed, which I would not recommend - No.6.

Although I was only there for one night my other half was there for three( I joined him in the last night). I really liked the hotel, the room was a good size, the bed very comfortable, I have back problems but slept very well on this bed. Plenty of hot water in the shower and lovely fluffy towels. The only problem we had was making the booking as my other half couldn't book all three nights on the one booking,as two nights were him on his own and the third was including me. So we had to make two separate bookings in hindsight we probably should have contacted the hotel ourselves and booked it directly, we know better for next time. The hotel overlooks a lake and you can take a nice long walk along the shoreline or just relax in the hotel garden and enjoy the scenery. I actually spent quite a while watching rabbits playing in the lawn the morning I was there. The restaurant had a nice menu, good good portions, well presented. This is a hotel we will come back to again.

The breakfast (Or lack of) was horrendous. We came for breakfast in good time to find out there was none left, and they wernt making anymore. Several families with children were left unhappy. There was a serious lack of help, apologies or politeness from the staff (other than front of house when we moaned)

This hotel has the most perfect location on the edge of Rutland Water. We asked for a quiet room & were upgraded on arrival to a Lakeside Room! The room was very comfortable with good en-suite shower. Breakfast was more than adequate & the staff friendly. Wonderful value for money, much to recommend!

This is a delightful hotel next to Rutland Water. The value was unbelievably good - £45 for the night and we were upgraded to a lake view room. We've booked again, even though the price for a Friday is double. Staff were excellent and the food in the restaurant very good.

So, back yet again to The Normanton Park Hotel, and delighted to find that little has changed: it's still a stunning location, with lovely people, delivering good value, and with a very pleasant atmosphere. And there was a great shower, a good bar, and superb wi-fi. What, as they say, is not to like?!

Found this hotel by accident whilst exploring Rutland Water. Had a most delightful snack lunch. Well presented, and tasty, food. Excellent services - staff all delightful - and what a wonderful waterside setting! An exquisite little hotel to which we will return - and probably stay over.

The first impressions are important - I arrived late and was escorted to room as it was in the annex building. It was late and I was very tired otherwise I would have requested a different room. Being charitiable i could say the room hadnt been used for a while and just not been checked. The room was dirty, large cobewebs in the room corners with ceiling. Old bisquit wrappers under the desk. The veranda was covered in leaves that had been there since they dropped in the autumn. When i reported the issue to the receptionist when booking out it was greeted almost with a shrug of shoulder and comment i will tell house keeping, no apoligy being provided. Pity because the location of hotel is stunning.

We stayed from Friday night to Sunday morning. It was a birthday present from my partner. The location is beautiful and the hotel is perfectly situated. Unfortunately on arrival we were told that there was an event on that weekend and the conservatory would not be available on Saturday. However, it turned out that unless you were part of the party, the actual conservatory was not available for our entire stay. The problem is you pay for the view and the location, so not being able to even go into the conservatory meant we could not enjoy the beautiful views while relaxing at the hotel. The party was a wedding and overtook the whole of the hotel, so we felt we were intruding by even sitting in the small bar area. As the weather was bad and we had car problems, we had to retire to our room at 9.30pm on Saturday as there was nowhere else to stay in the hotel. The music was loud (it would be as it was a wedding), but this didn't help us as it went on until 12.30am. Members of the party were outside our bedroom window talking and shouting until nearly 1am. It was disappointing that the hotel took a booking from us, when there was a wedding on, it wasn't fair for both parties. I thought we could enjoy the view on the Sunday morning for breakfast, but sadly as we were not part of the party again, we were shoved on a table in what felt like the corridor! The breakfast was a buffet style and was average. However, we ate both nights at the hotel and the evening meals were lovely. I would like to stay again, but I would be very apprehensive as having a massive party take over the accommodation, there is nowhere to relax other than your room.

Adequate double bedroom with dog friendly services. Location excellent close by Rutland Water offering ideal walking, cycling and other leisure activities. Room could do with re-decoration, slightly dated and needs refreshing, but overall excellent location and good value for money.

- The location on the resovoir is amazing; - We got a great night's sleep; - The restaurant food and service was good. But: - If you book in advance, make sure you check on bestwestern website closer to your stay, as the same room may be available cheaper; - Our garden-view room was tired, out of date and in need of several licks of paint; - The jacuzzi bath didn't work; - There was also unfortunately a centipede in the bath which very much startled my girlfriend, as well as an earwig and many spiders in the room; - The cooked breakfast was decidedly average and very much overpriced at £12.50/head; - The admin/communication between the website's booking service the and hotel itself was not reliable, and you should double-check your booking if you make it online.

When the Satnav said "in 50 metres go off road" and shows the destination in the middle of the lake, I pondered the wisdom of choosing this location for a break. Luckily the hotel is on dry land, just turn off right onto the hotel driveway. The hotel is a rather pleasing stone-built 1 & 2 storey building on the south shore of Rutland Water. Plenty of parking in the gravelled courtyard. Checkin was quick and easy and we were soon on the way to our room - Preston Suite - on the first floor. The room was described as having a lake view so I expected to be able to see a glimpse of the lake through the window. Wow, was I wrong - open the French windows and the lake was a few yards away across the lawn by the hotel. What a view! Just sitting by the window listening to the evening birdsong and watching the last of the windsurfers drift by was a perfect antidote to the bustle of the real world. The room was light and airy with a rather comfortable four-poster bed and a pair of equally comfortable antique-looking wooden chairs. Bathroom was large and had all the expected features as well as a Jacuzzi-type bath. The shower reminded me of an old telephone handset as it lived on a cradle above the taps. Food for dinner and breakfast was superb - top quality ingredients cooked to perfection and served by a speedy but very polite team. I must say that everyone we dealt with was really polite and friendly and were a credit to the hotel and its management team. With the shoreline minutes away, the old Normanton Church a gentle walk to the left and the Rutland Belle (boat trips around the lake) picking up passengers a couple of minutes from the hotel courtyard there is plenty to do nearby. Also try watching the sunset from the church - spectacular! (Look out for the rabbits feeding in the grounds at dusk)

Stayed here overnight on a business trip. It's a little tired... the courtyard entrance is a bit of a let down and my room with a lake view was a little shabby but certainly did provide a view to die for. Its not often I'm able to sit and work in comfort with French doors open onto a Juliet balcony with such fabulous views! The food served was of a good standard and breakfast plentiful. I found staff helpful and polite.

My experience at this hotel? it was awful to say the least. Was not informed that the room booked especially for the jacuzzi was out of service, which should have been told upon check in, house keeping here is APPAULING. Stains on duvets/broken bulbs and mould in shower. Very understaffed and slow service, no one is ever there to serve at the bar. Food is low standard. Overall this hotel is poor, the scenery msy be good but that is about it.

We regularly go to the Normanton Park Hotel for lunch every month or 6 weeks. Suddenly realised that a review was long overdue! The food is gorgeous. I had a vegetarian dish as a main and a chocolate brownie desert. The setting is wonderful: the clock room, where we had our meal, is lovely, with sandstone walls (I believe) and a bar in the corner. The service was perfect: we we served by Darius, who was attentive, friendly and cheerful. A credit to the Normanton Park Hotel! We've already booked the next visit. Definitely go to the NPH!

We booked a night a few months ago through booking.com for us to attend a wedding at Manton ,4 miles away. Because we were helping our friends set up the venue we rang the hotel to see if there was any rooms available for the night we had booked so to make it a 2 night stay. The staff taking the booking could not be more helpful. We were told we had to have a different room for each night but they would transfer our luggage on day 2. We arrived and were met by a very good receptionist but cant remember her name. She said that as we we staying 2 nights but had to change rooms that we had been upgraded to a superior room. The next day we had to be away to the wedding at 12 but checkout was 1100, but again went out her way to allow us to stay in our room until 1200. When we returned after the wedding all of our luggage had been duly moved as promised. We had breakfast both morning which was very good. The views over Rutland water was stunning and the area is excellent for walking or biking. We would definitely recommend this hotel to adult groups or families.

In a beutiful setting but decor could do with some TLC. Very well situated if you like walking as the hotel is right on the path that goes round Rutland Water. Given an average rating only because the decor looks tired

My wife and I enjoyed a two night stay at the Best Western Normaton Park Hotel. Had a really enjoyable time. The hotel is situated right next to Rutland Water and we had magnificent views from our room window. We were given an upgrade on arrival, which we both appreciated and the room was just great. It even had a heated loo seat! The dining room was excellent, the food was good, and the staff went out of their way to make us welcome. We will definitely be going back in the near future.

I stayed here for a few nights on business while attending a course. It's a beautiful hotel set in an amazing location. I was in an annex on the other side of the ample carpark in a groundfloor room which was very comfortable and spacious. Amusingly, the bathroom was huge and even had a heated toilet seat. The dining room looked out across Rutland Water which made breakfast relaxing, in the evenings I just ate in the bar. The food was better than average with good portion sizes and well cooked and presented. Overall, the hotel was a good place to stay, very quiet, good food, ample free parking, free Wi-Fi, amazing views, and it was 'quaint' as in not a generic hotel; it had character.

Went here for lunch recently as we haven't been here for a few years - wow we won't leave it so long again! Lovely views from the terrace plus they have a restaurant which overlooks Rutland Water. Whatever the weather it is a glorious view. We went on a Wednesday and arrived at 11am for coffees - it wasn't too busy at all for the 4 hours we were here for. However I got the sense that it gets busy at lunchtime at weekends so might be advisable to book a table for busy times. They also have conference room facilities and as I run training events I shall look at using this lovely venue for such events. A good view makes people feel great plus they can go for a walk around the grounds in the lunch break etc.

Stayed for a wedding room smelt very musty, carpet damp and decor very tired had to leave the window open to reduce musty smell hotel fully booked so no chance of a change of room also.found a shoe from a previous occupant under the bed. Food served at the wedding reception was a disappointment two small dishes of veg for a table of nine one person did not get any veg the rest had a small.broccoli, and cauliflower floret one green bean and a small cube of swede each we asked for more veg non available. Breakfast was disappointing eggs one way only scrambled! Again asked if fried or poached eggs available, they where not, croissant and pastries very stale. The hotel room we stayed in requires refurbishment. The plus side is the hotel is in a picturesque Location by Rutland water. Would we stay again probably not

Called in here for lunch when in the area. Restaurant was empty when we arrived at 12.00, but this meant we had the choice of tables. We chose a table in the window with a spectacular, sunny view over the gardens to Rutland Water beyond. Another table became occupied soon after we arrived. The food was well cooked, nicely presented and delivered quite quickly. We chose not to have a desert as we planned to take a walk, on the path along the reservoir where we knew there was an ice cream I'm sure we will return again in the future.

Stayed here in early March 2019. Not a bad hotel with great views. Let down by staff that do not care. I happened to be in my room when they were changing my bed linen - the new bed linen were first placed on the ground and stepped on by the personel. The carpet looked as if it hasn't been vacuumed for 2 weeks with other people's hair in the corners. When asked how often do they vacuume I was told daily but I guess no one has told the staff that or they need better vacuum cleaners. The window didnt close properly and there was a draft throughout my whole stay. The bathroom was mouldy but with good water pressure. The food in the restaurant was good and the breakfast was ok. Would I stay here again - if the standard improves yes.

Room was small despite asking for something larger upon booking. Receptionist at initial booking was very rude. Wouldn't listen to my requirements. Room wasn't very clean, third bed (sofa bed) was very smelly and uncomfortable. Location is beautiful.

Although it was early a group of 40 had a pleasant evening here. Liver pate was so so as was the roast beef. People having the chicken or the fish fared very well. The sticky toffee pudding was probably one of the best I have ever had. Great venue for functions overlooking Rutland Water.

This hotel is absolutely perfect for cycling at rutlan water, right on the waters edge and parking . Gardens lovely. Reception staff friendly. Hotel room clean, very small and tiny window up high, so no view. We wanted to stay as they allow dogs but didn't end up bringing her and probably good job as room was too small for her also and noisy from neighbours. Very good price so if on a budget it's perfect

Nice setting as most people agree. Great for walks and cycling. On the whole the hotel and the rooms are adequate for the price but I am afraid there is a lot of repainting and renovating that needs to be done. Our room was ok with the necessary furnishings being available. Soaps and lotions provided. Bath was extremely difficult to get out of behind the glass screen and the bathroom was tiny - the door opened out onto the toilet. The toilet itself was some sort of automatic wash/bidet affair which although I wouldn't usually use one I did give it a go and absolutely nothing worked. The bath was a jacuzzi bath which I didn't try as the nozzles all looked pretty grim. I would imagine whoever has to wash and clean the bathroom probably has to actually get in the bath to give it a proper clean. Tea and coffee provided with biscuits which were fine. TV picture was good with a good selection of channels. Our room overlooked the water which was nice except the windows were all in need of a good clean as were the nets at the windows and all the paintwork was in need of a coat of paint. The garden area outside of the window was very poor with plastic pots and bottles laying around and plenty of weeds. A bit of TLC is what this hotel needs to bring it up to what could be a really nice hotel. Even the sign for the hotel as you walk around the reservoir is muddy and dirty so doesn't give a good impression

Was not disappointed as had been advised by friends to stay there. Will stay again and pass onto friends. Very pretty setting and a good lace to relax and unwind whether a walk or a bike ride. Happy!!

Had a very nice stay at The Normanton. It's in a fantastic location overlooking rutland Water. It's a lovely building with great character , The staff were very good and although we only had breakfast the food was very good. Our room ,although a good size and the bed was very comfortable could do ,in my opinion do with a few improvements to make the most of it. All the furniture was very dark and the carpet was dark blue , this sucked the light out of the room and made it very dark , even a bit gloomy , would be much better if everything was much lighter, The window would have had a great view , but this was blocked by net curtains , would be much better to have blinds if anyone wants privacy , The bathroom had a bit of mould around the bath sealant , just shows a lack of attention to the finer details , All in a great hotel , I would definately stay there again

Stayed here Last Wednesday 27th March, received a very warm welcome from the reception staff, Room was spotless, next morning breakfast was up to their usual high standard before we left to return home had a walk along Rutland water, on a beautiful spring morning.

We attended a wedding there and it couldn't have been better food was great location was great and the little church on Rutland Water was delightful all the staff before during and after the wedding were top notch we wouldn't mind staying there just for a long weekend it would be well worth it we had a great breakfast to boot excellent.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We had a bedroom overlooking the garden and the water which was amazing. The staff were friendly, with a great sense of humour, and nothing was too much trouble for them. We will certainly be back

Stayed here in March 2019 for one night - a belated wedding anniversary treat to ourselves, but got a great offer on the BW Winter Sale. Our "luxury" room had french windows which opened on to a balcony rail and superb uninterrupted views of Rutland water. We were blessed with a lovely sunny day on the first day of spring and watched the sun go down over the water - what a great location ! The hotel garden has direct access on to the lakeside path, not far from Normanton Church, which sits very picturesquely protruding from the reservoir - delightful. The hotel is a little on the quirky side, on many levels, so not ideal for those less able, but the food was good and very reasonably priced. We'd recommend it for the location alone.

Hotel is in a great location with views across Rutland water. Check in very efficient , friendly receptionist and very helpful. Room compact but clean with comfortable bed and good free wifi. Stayed on business and will defiantly book again when working in the area

Very pleasant welcome with a room upgrade (Platinum reward member). Great service in the bar and a well presented and tasty meal in the restaurant. English Breakfast was particularly good, great choice on the Continental side too.

Beautiful location and grounds, access to the lake and morning walk was a wonderful addition. Hotel staff were friendly, particularly Noella who gave us a very warm and hospitable welcome. We will be back.

The hotel is very clean and comfortable, excellent location. Rooms clean and spacious. Very good value for money with the winter price. Evening meal was amazing and staff attentive and helpful. We intend to return.

Great little place on the beautiful shores of Rutland water . Quiet and peaceful location in lovely countryside. Courtyard rooms are small but comfortable with decent internet access and hot showers . Can be expensive in the high season and school holidays but excetional value for money the rest of the year.

I came here for a business meeting. The hotel was quiet, the staff were friendly and had an excellent pot of tea. Looking forward to going back for pleasure next time, maybe dinner. The grounds are lovely and the garden backs onto a path running beside Rutland Water. Close by is the half sunken church, Well worth a stroll if you have some time, the scenery is stunning.

Good value, good service and very pleasant staff couldn't ask for more. I've stayed at a lot of Best Westerns over the last couple of years and this is definitely one of the good ones, i'll be staying there again next time i'm in the area.

Room 3 directly above the bar meant we were treated to loud music at 0100 and loud drunken conversation that continued for a couple of hours. No noise insulation what so ever. Felt we were in the middle of the conversation. Now exhausted with long drive home. Absolutely wonderful location and staff especially the night porter Lorant that very professionally helped deal with the situation and a very tired female with child.

we always try and go back to the Normanton Park as on numerous occasions have had a wonderful time....This time however not so good ...For one ..No Daniel ...!! was sorry to find out he had left ..our room was above the kitchen ....very noisey ...No Sleep ....and the water pressure in the room was non exsistence...

Stayed in a lake view family room. A double and single bed, both very comfortable. Room was clean and homely and warm. Buffet breakfast and with the addition that you can ask for poached or fried eggs etc. Lovely real log fire in the bar area. Best of all was the friendliness and efficiency of the hotel staff. They were all very obliging, nothing was too much trouble for them and on that basis alone we will return. Finally being literally on the Rutland Water banks was just perfect.

Some rooms offer views of Rutland Water others a courtyard, so check when booking. Service is pleasantly old fashioned. TV reception is apparently affected by the proximity of the water, so said reception, not all channels available. Food quality is very good. Check online or phone ahead to check any specific dietary needs. Location outstanding.

Rutland, a beautiful county to visit and a stay at this hotel takes you right to the edge of its namesake, Rutland Water. This hotel is delightfully charming, if tired and in need of some repair and up-dating. That said, our stay was wonderful and it was refreshing and relaxing to stay in such a magnificent location.

There are a few bad reviews here and I want to redress the balance. Our room is lovely, modern and clean, nice shower room and lots of toiletries of good quality. The bed is comfy. The building is really beautiful full of character and Christmas decs add extra charm. We've just eaten our supper in the bar in front of a real fire with a lovely chat to the reception/bar girl (who was delightful ) while we waited for the food which was simple but tasty and fresh. It is a really great location,very beautiful. Speak as you find- we found it to be good!

A recent review ( not Trip Advisor) suggested that Normanton Park as one of Top 10 places to enjoy afternoon tea in the East Midlands. On the positive side the view from the conservatory over Rutland Water is outstanding. However that was the only positive. My wife and I have enjoyed Afternoon Tea in venues as far apart as Australia and Scotland this year, but by a country mile Normanton Park was the worst. The scones were OK but the sandwiches and cakes very poor quality. We were not offered a choice of tea which is pretty standard everywhere else. Afternoon Tea at Normanton Park was between 30 -50% cheaper than other places we ate this year, but we did not know that until we received the bill. Had we known that before going the Alarm Bells would have rung and we would have gone elsewhere. I wish we had.

Nice people but needs some money spending on room update plus heating was poor as room was cold and electric heater inadequate. Black mould in silicone around shower which could have been easily replaced plus evidence of condensation on walls. Ho hum.

My boyfriend booked this hotel for two nights as a surprise for me, lovely gesture, shame about the hotel. Ill start with the positives... The location is lovely, overlooking the Rutland reservoir. We didn't have good weather but still had a nice walk around part of it on the day we left. The free chunky chocolate chip biscuits and bottles of water were a nice touch and there are multiple free toiletries. They even gave hot chocolate sachets on the first night (great for me as I don't drink tea or coffee). We had a view of the reservoir from our balcony which was quite nice. Although the balcony was full of wet piles of leaves which must have been gathered over some time and the two metal chairs were filthy. When we checked in we were allocated a room on the top floor of the annex building. Having stayed in a premier inn the night before, it seemed very small and the low ceilings probably accentuated this. But that wasn't really an issue for us. The room was dated and grubby. Dirty marks and fingerprints all over the walls and even dirty marks on the ceiling somehow. The sheets also had what looked like rust stains... At least we hoped that's what it was. The bathroom was very small and had an odd toilet system which cleaned and airdryed your bum judging by the illustrations on the control panel! Didn't seem to work anyway as no signs of power. One bonus we thought was the jet spa type bath. In the evening we filled up the bath, got it to the right temperature, turned on the jets and..... Loads of black mould came spurting out of all of the jet sections! So we had to empty the bath and give up on that idea. But the jets wouldn't turn off by using the button we had pushed to start them! So as the water level dropped let's say a watery mess was had! We managed to locate a master power switch outside the bathroom on the wall beside the table which had the coffees on, and thankfully this worked. Oddly the shower screen didnt fully reach the bath, so any water spray went through the gap and on the floor. Worse though was the temperature control. Took so long to get a non scoulding/freezing temperature with millimetre turns of the taps... Then when you got in, every 60 seconds or so you'd get a burst of scolding water for 3 seconds. Another problem was sound proofing, or rather lack of. We heard everything going on in the room next to ours /below us. TV, snoring, and every movement. One room had their morning shower at 7am both days, so no lie in for us! It was so loud that the first time it woke us both up and we thought someone was in our bathroom! Certainly sounded as if our shower was running. After being out in town for the first day of our stay we arrived back at about 2:30pm and the room hadn't been made up. Thought it was unusual so asked at reception what times the rooms are done...got a very vague, unconvincing answer of 'erm...anytime, erm... probably right now' so I asked was there not a set time between which cleaning was done? To which I got the reply 'arrivals get priority'. She then said she'd chase it up for me... Just as we reached the door to leave she asked which room we were in. When we returned later that night the room had been done and it actually looked a lot cleaner than when we first arrived the previous day. We didn't try the restaurant as after checking the menu it didn't seem our cup of tea and we'd read mixed reviews online. But when we were coming and going from the hotel we hardly saw anyone in there eating. This hotel has so much potential if it had some investment. The exterior looks lovely and the location is great for a quiet get away.

Sited right at the waterfront of Rutland Water, this small hotel is a real hidden Gem and wouldn't have any hesitation in returning. Sitting on the northern shoreline only a few hundred yards from the half submerged Normanton Church with immediate access to long walks with your dogs, the Hotel is dog friendly with comfy rooms, reception areas and can be proud of the most amazing levels of friendly, efficient service !! With regards to the food, we were very, very pleasantly surprised with the highest quality of the Chef's skill sets, it was absolutely superb. A small but perfect menu and all four of us devoured with relish our different choices (if I lived locally I'd visit just for the food alone - rather than the Michelin just over the water) Wine list was limited in choice but each one was of excellent quality, value and matched the menu perfectly. Some say the hotel is a bit tired, I say it's perfect, full of character and warmth rather than marble, glass, stainless steel !

What a lovely setting, we really enjoyed our stay..decor is very tierd and cleaning could be improved ..The staff are great nothing was too much trouble..we will definitely be staying here again very soon

Located next to Rutland Water, this is an old picturesque hotel set amongst beautiful scenery. The restaurant and food are exceptional with breakfast served in The conservatory overlooking the lake. The bed was absolutely awful, though

Stunning location and what should have been a wonderful weekend let down by the hotel. No complaints about the staff who were very friendly and did everything asked of them. However, our room and the hotel generally was just so tired. I suggest a complete make over is long overdue.

Visited for a wedding. Have to say the food was presented very well but nearly cold! We had a room upstairs which was very small and also felt quite grubby and unloved. I just think there are some kitchen/housekeeping issues which is a real shame as the setting is beautiful and would definitely visit again if I thought the issues had been resolved.

We went away for a long weekend with our dog. The hotel staff made us extremely welcome and could not do enough to help. There was a one off payment of £15 for the dog and the staff spoiled her silly. They made it clear where she could go which was in the lounge and bar but not the dining room, which is perfectly fair. We had one lovely evening meal in the dining room and one in a local pub. The location is fabulous for walks around Rutland Water or into the glorious local countryside. the two neighbouring towns of Uppingham and Oakham and full of charm and interest. We loved this stay and will definitely go again. This is a comfortable, friendly hotel with excellent food and staff.

A pleasant warm welcome at reception, Stayed in the 'Oakham' room which was spotlessly clean, and very well maintained, Breakfast was regretfully no the usual standard, The scrambled egg was as hard as nails. The waiting staff were most delightful and greeted us warmly

Set in a beautiful location overlooking Rutland Water the hotel is everything you need for a relaxing break. Spotlessly clean bedroom and communal areas , and a warm relaxing atmosphere from the time I stepped through the entrance to the time I checked out. All members of staff were welcoming, professional and helpful throughout my stay and I would definitely visit again. Varied menu from bar meals to main meals - all at reasonable prices. Good choice for breakfast too. For some reason I'm unable to rate service, rooms and location in the Hotel Ratings section below but I would give each top rating.

visited twice during the summer for afternoon tea for birthday treats. Lovely views from the conservatory and the sandwiches, cakes and scones were delicious! Tea and coffee plentiful and very reasonable price. A lovely walk round Rutland Water afterwards

Very rural location, you defiantly require your own transport but the upside of that is that the only sounds you hear are the birds. The place being set well into its own grounds has a nice safe feel to it. I have stayed here before and was disappointed with both the service and the place but this time I pleased to find that my earlier disappointment was not repeated. I did find a couple of ladies hair clips on the bedroom floor so housekeeping has room for improvement but no big deal. I was happy with the cleanliness. The breakfast was very good.Either a buffet style or cooked to order. I ate from both the bar and restaurant menus in the evenings which were fine but a little more food on the plate would have been nice. All the staff I met were polite and helpful. There is ample free parking.

This is a pleasant hotel, situated in a lovely spot backing onto the south shore of Rutland Water, so you can just walk from the back garden of the hotel to a pathway near the water, although, there is no swimming, paddling, etc, allowed there, but the walk is really nice and peaceful. There were plenty of boats and windsurfers on the water on the Sunday we were there, so there must be places nearby to take part in the these activities if you're of a mind, but we were there purely to relax. As always, the staff at this Best Western (UK) hotel were very friendly and helpful, with a special mention to Becky, who sorted out an alternative room for us when we found that a lot of flies had taken up residence in a corner of our original room. This was our fault really, as we had left the french doors open for some air in the evening and, stupidly, being so close to a body of water, we had the lights on. We just never gave it a thought; perhaps a notice by the doors would be a good idea so that guests were aware? Anyway, Becky was excellent with providing us with another room (upgraded), with a 4 poster bed and spa bath and the same view of the Rutland Water as we had had from the first room. However, we did have an issue with the spa bath, as i found lots of black bits joining me in the water when I switched the spa on. The second use was okay, though, so I guess it hadn't been used for a while; maybe the room staff should operate the spa in between guests occupation to avoid this? The food at the hotel was excellent, although the choice perhaps a little limited. I do understand the economical reasons for this, but, when you have specific dietary requirements such as I do, it makes choice even more difficult. I must warn you of the waiter called Chris, as he can tell you with a dead pan face that the hotel has no conservatory, when you had been told that breakfast was being served there, and that breakfast was finished for the day anyway, before giving way to a smirk and taking you through to the conservatory for breakfast. There was a slight misunderstanding that left my wife waiting a long while for her cooked breakfast, but Chris was such a nice chap, we forgave him that. Overall, we has a peaceful and pleasant stay at this hotel.

Stayed in hotel travelling on my own. Stunning setting on the banks of Rutland water. I felt so relaxed and comfortable. Staff were very helpful. Would highly recommend. The hotel is full of character.

Went to the Normanton Park Hotel with family and friends for a 50th. Really delicious food, nicely presented. We were in the conservatory overlooking the lake with beautiful views. The staff were very helpful and polite. The price was great value. We highly recommend this venue and will definitely make a return visit.

The venue is excellent but there were swarms of flies outside our door due to a large fixed light. This light needs motion sensors so that flies don't accumuate our room of full of mosquitoes! The UHT milk as discusting and tasted of plastic. There was no thermostat on the shower meaning you had to play games with the bath taps to try and get a decent temperature. Hotel room was clean but flies everywhere. Internet didn't work.

We had a wonderful stay at the hotel for 2 nights and it is such a beautiful location! We came to explore Rutland Water on bikes and walking. We had a lovely room overlooking the lake. It was a good size and was really comfortable. The decor is traditional but that is fitting with the style of the hotel. We did find that there were a lot of spiders in the room but I guess this is the location and the time of year. The doors that opened onto the gardens were a little dirty and would benefit from a clean. Being picky, a better hoover is needed to clean the patterned carpet as bits kept on getting stuck to our feet! I ended up wearing flip flops around the room as this didn't sit well with me. Bathroom clean but again traditional. The shower doesn't have a thermostat so you have to play around the the temperature which was a bit tricky! We didn't have dinner at the hotel but the breakfast was lovely. You eat in the conservatory which overlooks the lake. The reception manager was lovely and she was really helpful. She gave us instructions to find pubs and walks. Reception also called us a taxi when we went to the theatre close by. One thing that would be great is if the hotel offered secure bike storage on site. There is somewhere to park your bikes near the path at the bottom of the garden but it isn't secure. We didn't want to leave our bikes here as it is too exposed and our bikes are quite valuable so we ended up having to hire at an extra cost.We would definitely return with bikes if this was put in place! All in all, thank you for a lovely few days away.

We were booked to stay in a room called barrow. A huge cloud of mosquitos over the door outside. Inside the room was no better with large beetles spiders and other insects both in and around the bed. Not sure how they could possibly think this was expectabke to make a couple, my partner is pregnant by the way, stay in a room like this. We would have been eaten alive!!! After arguing with the night Porter he took us to another room which was no better and then put us back in with the bugs again. He even tried to come round and use a large cab of bug spray. Eventually it turned out they did have an empty room in the main hotel which with much reluctance they let us use. Needless to say we checked out a day early the following morning. I've stayed in hotels all over the world and never come across anything like this. A complete shambles!!!

Came with friends one sunny Sunday evening looking forward to eating in the garden with the views over the water. Well what a mess! No one around to help hand out menus or advise on where to sit/What is on offer. All waiting staff were non English and appeared to struggle to understand. The man behind the bar seemed fed up and unsure of anything, harassed and told us there wad only one chef on so food would be a wait if ordering bar food. Ordered drinks and he free poured shots of spirits...no measures! Ordered food which included a two course children's special...The icecream desert came out before all our mains and when we asked them to take it back and serve it once main meals were eaten was told it would only be kept in the kitchen and melt!!!! Food came out in fits and starts...sausage and mash is just that...no veg or anything to go with it. We ordered an extra portion of the hand cut chips only to have brought out what were clearly frozen oven chips and not at all like the hand cut chips served with the burgers. The waiters then did nothing to challenge a couple who brought their two small dogs and allowed them to free wander all over the eating area doing their toilet business before the owners then placed them on the tables!! What's a shame is that this place with its setting and large outdoor space could be amazing and it wouldn't take much afford on the part of the owners.

Hardly slept a wink due to a wedding, hotel has placed me in a room directly above the bar. Kids running around unsupervised in the dining hall, mentioned this all to staff bit all I got back was oh really. Lovely looking hotel in beautiful surroundings but would not stay there again

This was our second stay at this hotel, and again was excellent. The staff, the food, the whole ambience was good and the weather was good enough for a beer in the garden overlooking Rutland Water. Our room was in the main Hotel block this time and was even better than the previous one.

The room was small but sufficient. Some of the lights didn't work Which meant that we didn't find a control panel for all bathroom additions ie Jacuzzi and automated bidet/toilet seat (! Never got the opportunity to use it, but sounded scary!) Until the next morning. No air conditioning and only window was a French window/doors, so didn't want that much window open. The whole place looks tired and in need of a darn good dusting and cleaning. However, the food was excellent, and the location is perfect. Sitting on the terrace and watching the sun going down over the water, glass of good wine in hand, made for a perfect evening. Breakfast was interesting. We were unable to sit with our family group as insufficient places laid out. Food although tasty, ran out quickly, requested items had to be chased for and I was appalled at the state of the 'kitchen' in the dining room. I had gone in there to make myself a tea, there was plenty of coffee available, and no staff around. There was nothing telling me to keep out. On the table in the dining room, cups, milk and sugar were laid out with cloths covering them. Good to see, but... in the 'kitchen' which was dismal and dirty, sugar and tea bags were in open boxes on the floor. Hmmm. Would I stay here again? Probably not, but it wasn't all bad. Also note that getting around the hotel will be challenging for wheelchair users due to cobbles, shingle paths, steep ramps and lack of direct easy access to areas, but then it is a very old building

Stayed here last week for a wedding, fantastic hotel and staff, the lake and the surrounding areas offer dozens of activities to make your stay even more memorable. Only issues would be a lack of beer/ale options in the bar and there was a fair amount of spiders around our room that might really bother some people.

We spent just one night here and would definitely stay again and recommend this hotel. The staff were friendly. The bed was comfortable, The breakfast was good and the views and peace and quiet were just perfect.

The route around Rutland water either for walkers or cyclists is delightful, with many opportunity to stop off for drinks or snacks on the way, the Best Western directly on the route we were on came just at the right time. Being British we were desperate for TEA. The gardens looked welcoming with places to sit among shady trees on a hot day, the provision of bike racks tells a welcome to cyclists which was thoughtful. Only requiring a good brew seemed not to be a problem when we requested a large teapot for two but we were tempted by some fresh scones with cream and jam. What could be better on a hot summer afternoon a couple of scones jam and cream washed down with builders brew? spot on Normanton Park thank you. Its hot for staff serving too so nice to get a smile and good service. Will return.

Lovely hotel in idyllic spot. On our original visit some things went wrong. When we visited gain this year Noella had put everything right for us and we had a lovely time. Lovely food, very friendly welcome all the staff were excellent. Ideal spot to enjoy Rutland Waters and nearby Stamford and Burghley House. we will return

Hotel had lovely views across Rutland water- very reasonable bar prices, good service and room was small but very comfortable bed and contemporary decor. Would certainly revisit. Lovely to sit outside on the terrace with a drink and watch the sunset!

We used this hotel as a journey break for one night heading upto the Lake District, only used on the basis of being Best Western and I am a membership holder. Not that disappointed though, fantastic location right next to Rutland water and clearly trades on the basis they are so close to the church on the lake. Went for a better lake view room which was correct in having a lake view but was close to staff outside smoking area and the cost was clearly for the view not the room, the window had 2 that opened but only 1 with a catch, not a problem as it meant one didn't close and it was a day of nearly 30 degrees, also little thought for the 2 year old listed as an occupant as the kettle and cups were on a small table in the middle of the room at child height just calling out to be grabbed, hot or not. That said the staff were really friendly and attentive as a lot of previous reviews have said and the location is great. Actually tried to use for our return journey but fully booked but would have tried a 'standard' room.

The setting of this hotel is beautiful. The view over Rutland water was just lovely. However, the hotel was terrible. We booked (with a view of booking our wedding there) via a Groupon voucher. We were in a standard double room with an afternoon tea and a bottle of prosecco on arrival - as well as breakfast. We ended up in a tiny room in an attic, with no air con, on an extremely hot day. The only ventilation was a small window with ripped and filthy curtains overlooking the car park. We went down for afternoon tea - which compared to others we had, was very disappointing. It was on a three-tier stand. As we had eaten the bottom and the top plate, we still had the middle plate of very small cakes to eat. At one point the waiter asked if he could take the stand. I explained we hadn't finished. He said he needed the stand, so I had to take the plate off to allow him to have the stand. Another couple near us got up and said they were going to complain. We asked for a fan - to be told they didn't have any spare ones. We had to ask for the prosecco. Later on, we went to the bar, only to have two waitresses having an argument in front of us. Apparently one thought it wasn't her job to serve drinks on a tray, but to just carry them out one at a time. The receptionist went off duty and no one else came on. We finally decided to order some bar food rather than eat in the restaurant. The table next to us was served their dessert – in the middle of the main meal. The food was okay – a ploughman's but with such a tiny bit of salad and cheese the price was way over-the-top. We went to the bar to order a drink and had to wait for ages – only to be told by the barman/waiter that ‘what do you expect when there is only me on – we are very short staffed'! Not at any time were we asked if the food was okay. We decided to complain to the receptionist – that was when we found out that there was no one on reception. We hardly slept due to the heat in the room. The shower the next morning was cold – not even luke warm – just cold! We went to breakfast – nothing ‘fresh' but cooked and then kept heated until needed. When we tried to check-out they presented a bill which should have been £00.00 as everything was pre-paid, but they couldn't even get that right. Was not even asked if we had enjoyed our stay – probably for the best!

The management of this hotel is horrible. Even in East Europe you get better conditions. Short staff and this people work as hardest they can. Callen the waiter work in the bar outside on the terrace and in the conservatory in the same evening shift.Rooms dirty and the worst thing is the management.How can be that possible???Rooms I can belive this happen in 2018 in a country like England. Nothing to say more. Avoid this hotel There are better place to stay and visit near the Rutland Water

This is a very mixed review... Pros....the hotel is in a superb setting right on the edge of Rutlandwater. It is clean and there is a good selection of toiletries in the bathroom. Cons...the breakfast was very mediocre, empty containers not filled up, no bread rolls and very little fresh fruit. Having said that the restaurant seemed to be understaffed and the two people there worked very hard, We had emailed the hotel twice to say my husband has a lactose intolerance and though they did provide soya milk there was no alternative to butter at breakfast...it isn't rocket science to work out that someone with an intolerance to milk can't eat butter! And even when we asked on the first morning we were just told no...in the interests of good customer relations they could have obtained some sunflower spread for the other mornings! We also had a few niggles with our room...the hair dryer didn't work (though Reception did provide one later) and the light bulb was missing in one of the bedside lights...although we reported these facts nothing was done about it in the four days we were there. And beware! The hot water is ridiculously hot!!! Having said all that we enjoyed our break in a lovely part of England.

We had afternoon tea yesterday purchased through Groupon. It was very delicious, good selection of cakes of which the lemon cake was very light and tasty. Scones were warmed. Sat in the garden overlooking Rutland Water in the sun shine having tea and prosecco a perfect setting.

From entering the reception and receiving a warm welcome, I knew this would be a lovely hotel. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and the staff were all very friendly and welcoming. We had a lovely lake view room which was wonderful. The decor was clean and fresh and the bathroom nice and modern. All the little touches were there - tissues, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, soap, hair dryer etc. The tea making facility allowed for hotel chocolate as well as tea and coffee and biscuits. I was very very pleased with the whole experience. The breakfast was equally excellent. Well laid out in a fashion so there was not lots of waste, ie no big pots of anything which can go off, all in elegant containers instead. Again everything was presented well with taste and decorum, and the serving staff were very smartly dressed and friendly. The food was well cooked and fresh and tea and coffee was flowing well. I could not fault this hotel, it was obviously well run.

What a lovely setting on the banks of Rutland Reservoir, the gardens lead down to a path which takes you around the water past the Normanton Church, getting your appitite ready for tea and what a tea beautiful fresh sandwiches a hugh selection of cakes and scones, tea,coffee,proseco or pims served in the conservatory with views of the lake. Very pleasent staff, my mum said she felt as if she had been on holiday, will return for sure.

Business trip caused me to stay for a few nights. Room in the main building - view of reservoir was nice and area is all but silent. Dated feel to the room and bathroom - but shower strength was stupendous. Breakfast was Ok, poached eggs were solid - but scrambled was much nicer. Staff very friendly.

Spent the weekend here with a family group to celebrate a milestone birthday. On the whole everything was good, except one room, the Lyndon, was extremely small with mould on the walls and peeling wallpaper, however the receptionist was quick to deal with our complaint and we were satisfied. The staff were very pleasant and the food was good. This is a fabulous location and could have stayed longer.

We really like this hotel and will come back. The location is fantastic, Rutland Water is about 30 metres from the garden gate. The 'beer' garden is lovely (they could do more to attract passing trade) and every member of staff made us feel welcome. We arrived on Friday and booked a meal in the restaurant. We looked out over the lake and watched the start of the sunset. We had two courses of beautifully prepared and presented local food and a fabulous bottle of wine. Sleep wasn't great as the bed was uncomfortable - I told the Reception Manager when we checked out and I am confident something will have been done. We paid for a lake view and definitely had one. But the extra cost was not justified by the small window, net curtain and abundance of greenery. Breakfast was good with a small range of cooked and cold items. On our second evening, we ate out but had a drink in the bar. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed.

I've just returned from taking my mum to normanton park for a sparkling afternoon tea. The experience: we were running 10 minutes late, and out of politeness called three times to advise them but there was no answer. On arrival we stood at the bar, made eye contact with the staff and were ignored for several minutes until I interrupted what must have been an important chat. We were then shown to our table without so much as a hello in a conservatory on our own. We were asked tea or coffee. No choice of tea (a later couple did get this offered). Then waited a good 15 minutes after the tea came out for the food. Never seen such a poor attempt at afternoon tea. Stale sandwiches and tiny cakes. In fact one of the cakes looked like they had tried to cut the stale bits off! There was no prossecco which was part of the deal... never saw a single waiter after that to ask about a refill of tea, the prossecco or just generally how things were. When we left someone did approach and ask how things were and I expressed my disappointment. He didn't really comment and just smirked at us. Who knows what happened about payment! I had a voucher which I can't recall if I left the voucher code with them on the phone. To say they didn't care is an understatement. Far to caught up in their own dramas!!

Location to the lake is perfect. The hotel itself looks like it could do with some TLC but we will definitely stay here again as it is in on the quieter side of the lake to the car child's play area and water sports so perfect for a more tranquil stay. We only snaked so can't really comment on the food but will definitely be returning for another stay.

Sadly I have to say that my recent visit was a huge disappointment due to the fact that I had booked a room on the ground floor as I had foot surgery and was in a wheelchair. But upon arrival .. when we checked in...we asked where the room was located and the receptionist saw me in the wheelchair and replied its on the first floor ! There are only 5stairs she responded!! For someone with their foot in a plaster having had surgery... 5stairs is still too much ! I explained that I could not walk and had specifically requested a ground floor room ... but she seemed not interested in helping me ... !!! We went to see where the room was and luckily as I was with family, they assisted me by carrying me up and down the stairs when I needed to come down.god help me if there had been a fire !! Once in the room, the room was dusty dark and smelt like no one had been in it for months !- The bed was creaky and worn out and the mattress was long overdue an overhaul. The draws were dusty and full of flies /insects ... ! The bathroom smelt of soiled nappies !!! I decided to make a cup of tea only to find a lovely spider in my teacup! The location is beautiful sadly the hotel is not .it needs to be modernized and updated to make it more accessible to those with mobility issues etc .

Very mixed feelings for this hotel. Unhappy experience booking a couple of months ago, mainly due to extortionate premium rate phone call, we couldn't book on line as a group booking had been made. We were staying to attend a wedding at the hotel. As a wedding venue, it is perfect , beautiful location. We were lucky to have gorgeous weather, so could be outside on the patio area and lawns, really pretty over looking the lake. Our room was slightly more expensive as it had a lake view ( through the small, single glazed window). The room was tired, a bit grubby ( stains on the bed spreads, carpet seen better days etc). The bathroom had a few little bottles of shampoo etc, but really needed ripping out, toilet old and stained, door rotten ....all just a bit sad. Cobwebs around the curtains. It had the usual small kettle, tea, coffee, biscuits, bottle water...all nice. The breakfast was ok, self service, so the scrambled eggs are never that fresh, but plenty of it, and a really good choice of fresh and tinned fruits which I like. The staff are excellent, very helpful, the waiter at breakfast worked really hard as the room was full with all the wedding guests. So, beautiful setting, excellent for a wedding, brilliant staff....but rooms seriously need upgrading.

This is the 3rd time I have stayed at this hotel. The location of the hotel is absolutely lovely and the staff are delightful as usual. The last 2 times I have stayed here, the rooms have been great. The first time was in an annex building and the second time was in the courtyard. However this time I have been given a dark, small and pokey room upstairs in the main building. I shall ensure that I get one of the better rooms next time as I would certainly not choose to stay at this hotel if this was the only room available and I cannot recommend it on the basis of my current stay.

It's are first time to hotel and what a lovely hotel. We stayed in the courtyard room which was lovely. Basic but had everything we needed. We loved the hotel the staff was great and helpful specially the restaurant and bar manager Adrian he couldn't be anymore helpful to us. We had a dog and felt absolutely looked after. The food nice in the bar and restaurant. The hotel view looking over the lake is breathtaking we shall be going back on a regular basis as we think we have found are perfect location with are dog.

We intended to book this for our anniversary anyway but were delighted to discover the hotel is included in the Tesco club card scheme. I had read on Trip Advisor that the lodge we booked had a view partially obscured by a tree, so I asked to pay to upgrade to the bridal suite. There was a wedding fayre going on so the room wasn't available at check in time. The receptionist checked with someone and very kindly gave us a free upgrade. We partook of a bar lunch of sandwiches, full English breakfast and a 3 course dinner, all of which were well presented and very enjoyable. We dined in the orangery and were given a lake view time decorated with flowers and petals and a dessert plate was decorated with the words happy anniversary, a nice touch. The lodges are literally next to the lake, accessible through a gate for a walk round Rutland water. Parking and reception were just a few3 steps away from the room. Not suitable for anyone with difficulties as the lodge is up a flight of stairs. It is spacious, has ample wardrobe space, a large, comfy bed, table and chairs, 2 balconies with stunning lake views, including Normanton church - you can sit out at the table and chairs. The bathroom had a separate shower cubicle and a very large spa bath which was very relaxing. The staff were all very attentive and friendly. Special mention to the receptionist who checked us in, she gave us a lovely, warm welcome and was very friendly and helpful, exceptional customer service skills, thank you, Noella. We will definitely be back for more of this delightful place.

A lovely hotel in a splendid location on the side of Rutland Water. We stayed at this hotel because it is pet friendly. The room we had was on the ground floor in an annex a few yards from the main building. It was quiet with lovely views over the lake. The room was very spacious and the bathroom was equipped with a jaccuzi bath with an overhead shower. The bar area was an ideal place to relax with a beer and bar snack. I was a little disappointed with the breakfast which is why I have rated this hotel very good instead of excellent. Oh forgot to mention the beer garden at the back of the hotel greet for a drink on a hot day.

I've stayed here several times now. This hotel has a wonderful location right on the banks of Rutland Water, and the views from the grounds and from the restaurant windows are fabulous. Rooms vary between interior luxurious rooms to stableyard and outbuilding rooms which are perfectly functional but less glam. Wi-Fi is good everywhere, staff are lovely, there's a well-stocked bar and very good, cooked-to-order, breakfasts. Highly recommended.

Enjoyed another great stay at this delightful hotel, waterside location on Rutland Water is the big draw, I was working locally and used the hotel as a base which I could combine cycling and running, Parkrun is held Saturdays from the rear of the hotel along the water and over the Dam so pack your runners, rooms around the courtyard are spacious clean and modern with easy access to car park, bar is nothing special and usually quiet, meals are either fine dining or bar served, staff are welcoming and friendly, never yet come away disappointed, perfect for couples.

I'm so pleased I have now discovered Normanton Park Hotel. The location is beautiful and we felt so at home and relaxed here. Our room was nothing short of perfect. Everything we needed and Very clean! We had a great view of Rutland water which is a stone's throw away from the hotel. I couldn't fault Suze and her team who went above and beyond making sure our stay was everything it should of been, special thanks to Serge, Callin and Lorent for looking after us too. The food was delicious and being able to sit gazing out at that view made it even better. Whilst staying at the hotel I found out that it Is dog friendly too so I'm now planning my next trip back here with my dog next month and I cannot wait. If the weather is on your side too then you will definitely not be disappointed

If ever there was a hotel that seems to be surviving thanks to the tenacity and loyalty of its staff rather than the investment by its owners it's this one. This was our fourth visit over the last couple of years and we only return because of its idyllic location overlooking Rutland Water and because of the efforts of the people who work there. Our recollection is that we've now stayed in three of the flagship rooms / suites on the mezzanine level overlooking the lake. The views outside are sumptuous but look over your shoulder and what you see in the room is an eclectic mix of tat against a backdrop of electrics that that seem to be all over the place. For example, the kettle has to be connected by a short flex to a gang outlet near the skirting board and there are wiring ducts all over the opposite wall. The furniture is old, scuffed, damaged and basically shoddy and has not changed since we first visited when it was already well past its sell by date. It's such a shame and is a missed opportunity because the location is so good; it's almost as if the owners are happy to carry on trading on the basis of one-off visits. On the other side of the coin, the breakfast was superb and moving the evening restaurant location from the dim and dark recesses of the rear of the hotel to the conservatory was a good move. Not so good was the idea of sharing the restricted bar area with large, slobbering dogs. However that's not unique nowadays and seems to be a position that most hotels seem to have backed themselves into.

if you want peace and quiet with a morning view to die for , this is the place . grounds are fantastic . on top of this the food is very good but not cheap . this is my 5th visit and it wont be my last .

Idyllic setting, very pretty, well maintained garden with pedestrian gate entry straight onto Rutland Water. Especially enjoyed eating breakfast in the conservatory overlooking Rutland Water. Stayed in family courtyard room accompanied by my dog.Was able to park with ease right outside accommodation. The room was very spacious, could do with a tidy decor wise, however, it was generally clean and smelt very fresh. The staff were all very welcoming, excellent communicators and the service we received was highly professional with a "nothing was too much trouble" attitude extended to their guests. Cannot fault any staff member but Suzie, one of the supervisors, did go one step beyond in providing treats for my dog, an Easter egg for me and a surprise cream tea for my partner - it is these little things that go a long way, allow me to talk about the hotel in a highly recommending manner and to ensure that we will definitely return. The food, especially breakfast, was excellent, food served between 10am to 10pm with sandwiches available 24hrs. Was not massively keen on the wine selection but this is potentially personal preference not the quality. We did have a couple of issues during our stay but these were sorted very quickly by staff; the receptionist on the initial night of our stay, contacted me several times to ensure our problem of luke warm water was rectified and to check if we needed anything else. We will definitely return very soon as this was the sort of break where you can park up and not really move the car again for a couple of days if you so wish.

Six of us booked in for 3 course Easter Sunday lunch and it was lovely. We were seated in the conservatory overlooking Rutland Water, beautiful. The staff were very efficient and friendly and the whole meal was delicious. We found it great value for money (although one of our party was still hungry but he's a big eater!). We had a lovely afternoon and a lot of fun. Looking forward to our next visit.

This is a typical hotel of the area, great views of Rutland Water and good routes for walks, cycle rides etc. The hotel itself is a converted manor house with rooms in-situ and also in an annex in the grounds. We were in well-appointed rooms in the annex with great views of the lake - all the usual facilities (including a whirlpool bath). However, the sound insulation was very poor (we did report this to reception); when the room above us was occupied, we could hear every step as people walked around the room and the running water into the sink and the bath could be clearly heard. It also meant that because the weather was very poor, care was needed to avoid the mud and puddles between the annex and the main building. The breakfast was a buffet, but other items (such as fried or poached eggs) were available on request. There was a good choice of food at dinner and it was well cooked and presented. The bar menu was also good. The hotel has a policy of allowing dogs in the bar and one of the dining rooms; there is another dining room where dogs are not allowed, but if that is full, people need to use the dining room where there may be dogs. The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful

We decided to have a night away and found this place and I can thoroughly recommend it. We had a superior room with jacuzzi over looking Rutland water, see photo, and it was a lovely room, very comfortable. We had dinner there as part of our deal and that too was very nice as was breakfast. The staff were very polite and helpful and the hotel had a nice relaxing feel. We had a lovely stay and look forward to going back at some point.

Was visiting family in the area and stayed here on my own. Was very comfortable with friendly helpful staff. Lovely location with direct access to lake. Good view from my room over Rutland water. Quiet and relaxing.

Booked a superiour double room but got a tiny room in the lodge building (Manton Room). Room little bigger than the double bed. Old fashioned electric wall heater in room. Bathroom facilities didn't work (spa bath for example). Restarant food and breakfast very nice and staff mostly attentive to needs. Location is fantastic but the room I was in seemed tired and cramped. Friend stayed in main hotel and he informed me his room was really nice (and he didnt book a superior room)

We are just back from having afternoon tea with prosecco at the Normanton Park Hotel. It was fabulous! The selection was great and most importantly it was really fresh. It tasted delicious. The scones were still warm! In addition, the view from the area where we had our afternoon tea was stunning - overlooking Rutland Water. Would highly recommend.

Stayed for one night only.. From the time we arrived to the time we left we were so impressed by the politeness of all the staff..It was an absolute delight to be there... We were upgraded to family room which had a double and a single in..A good size tv a built in hairdryer,iron and ironing board..Shower and a bath..Tea/coffee making facilities..Faultless..A 5 minute walk into the garden will lead you to Rutland Water and a lovely walk if want to..Have a look at the church a little magical gem.. Again a massive thank you to all the staff who never stopped smiling it was a pleasure...

Visited here today and cannot praise the staff enough for their excellent customer service. Warm,friendly and lovely hotel. Suzie the supervisor was very helpful. We arrived as a large family with five children and the hospitality was excellent.

I had the pleasure of attending the hotel 17/3/18 where the staff at the hotel accommodated me and some Cadets from East Leicester who were doing a gruelling walk around the lake when the Weather was bitterly cold. The Cadets were raising money for A local charity The Treble 1 Trust. Suzie and her staff were amazing. They'd welcomed us in on this cold day and provided warm drinks. We cannot thank them enough for all the hard work and contribution to the welfare of the Cadets. Once again, thank you to Best Western at Normanton, Rutland. Thank you to Sven as well who was also brilliant,

Firstly, the staff and location were excellent. The room was tired. Frayed net curtains, water damaged ceiling, electric heating was extremely high or off, the paint is tired, the bathroom was poor - shower weak due to fittings leaking and a bizarre Japanese electric bidet that didn't work and just looked cheap. The cups had huge chips missing from them. It was a £30 room at best. Breakfast was OK (apart from a dirty glass with lipstick on it) but nothing special. The location is wonderful and the building is beautiful but the rooms are in a poor state of decor. As another review stated, 5* prices for a 2* hotel.

What a lovely hotel, taking my mum away for mothers day and we are that impressed have invited family over to have lunch here to, we have a lake view room which has a exellent view , room is large, comfortable and very clean

great location on the banks of the lake, stunning views, nice looking hotel. our room was clean and tidy albeit a tad small for 2 adults and full sized german shepard! the staff were friendly helpful and welcoming even the ones that were freeked out by the dog! the food was excellent evening meal and breakfast. all in all had a good stay nice to find somewhere nice we can take the dog.

Excellent start to break at reception, when our booking had been put down for the next day, but sorted out by receptionist. We were put into a very good room with views of wildlife and water. We eat on both nights at the restaurant, the food and wine were excellent. The bar was also good with great choice. Will return in the warmer weather.

I visited this hotel in January and was incredibly disappointed with the service and the overall standard of the hotel. Starting with fag ends and rubbish in the gardens and more stray cats than I care to count, the initial impression was not good, and to be honest was reinforced when i walked into the front door to a very outdated reception complete with portable coat rail (the sort you expect to see in a teenagers bedroom rather than a 3 star country retreat). The decor is old fashioned, the staff are miserable and clearly don't want to be there. The building clearly needs a lot of work - the general cleanliness was awful- dead flies everywhere, dust and grime on every available surface. Beer tasted like they hadn't cleaned their lines in months and was extortionate - I don't mind paying over the odds for a pint but not in a dirty warm glass with a 15 minute wait to be served. Redeeming feature? It's by he water and the views are fantastic- my advice? Stay somewhere else and Best Western please look more closely at the hotels in your portfolio, this one is a real disappointment.

Just got back and what a treat! Bottle of prosecco waiting for us on ice.Lovely, friendly staff. A gorgeous room and good food. Great view of the reservoir which is accessible by a well lit path at night. (we went to watch the sunset) Will most definitely be returning.thanks for having us.

We went to Rutland with our kids on our last half term holidays. Hotel is beautiful, staff very welcoming and friendly, all of them and specially a manager-Sven wanted to make sure we are comfortable. It's a quiet place with gorgeous scenery. We couldn't make most of it because of the weather but will definitely come back.

We recently stayed here for a romantic break away, using a Wowcher voucher. Overall we felt our stay was good value for money and the location is lovely. We were upgraded to a lake view lodge, which was basic and clean with a few luxury features such as jets in the bath and a bee-day on the toilet. Breakfast was fabulous and faultless. Although I enjoyed my evening meal, we felt the menu was very limited and overpriced, my husband ordered steak (only sirloin was an option) and we paid the same price we usually pay for fillet in similar standard accommodation. Prosecco is also overpriced at £28 a bottle. Unfortunately some areas of the hotel let it down, particularly lots of dead flies in the conservatory/on the blinds and bodged maintenance jobs/loose wires/patches of plaster etc. Taking everything into consideration we would return using a similar offer!

This trip was planned to remember the passing of Louise's daughter 42 years ago and to remember Dad, who's ashes were scattered last June on Rutland Water where often fished. We stayed at the Best Western Normanton Park Hotel. What a wonderful use of an old stable block in a location so pleasing to the eye. The room was perfect with a view across the water. The staff were helpful and pleasant. The food was very good with a nice choice of meals for breakfast and evening meal. We managed a walk to Edith Western one day and to Empingham on the second day. All in all a wonderful break.

Very pleasant polite staff, beautiful conservatory area with a fabulous view out over Rutland Water. The food was delicious, fresh and homemade. Large pot of teafinger sandwiches, a selection of cake and a delicious fruit scone with strawberry jam and clotted cream. Would recommend.

Not sure if this is allowed, we have just booked this to attend a wedding in May. Already annoyed with them. The wedding is at 1 pm, hotel check in is 2pm. Would very much to arrive in time to change in our room, but is a £10per hour early arrival fee. I had to book the hotel direct, as a block booking had been made for the wedding,so unable to use websites. They have a prime rate telephone number, with long delays and menus. The phones have cost me £10.59!!! Beginning to think should have stayed elsewhere, looking at other reviews of people attending whether.

The hotel is on the shore of Rutland Water and less than 8 miles from both Oakham and Stamford. The building was once part of a grand manor house and park. We enjoyed a 3 night Christmas break which we felt was excellent value. The hotel has a cosy bar/lounge area with a log fire (in winter) and an attractive restaurant where the food served was both delicious and plentiful. For the more formal meals during our stay we were accommodated in the conservatory with wonderful views over Rutland Water. Our room was clean, warm and comfortable if somewhat cozy yet reasonably well appointed with tv, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer, iron and ironing board. Although there was plenty of wardrobe hanging space, there was little drawer space and those we did have were rather small. Like many British hotels the rooms are looking a little tired. The lake view rooms are more spacious. Wi-fi was available throughout the hotel and there is free parking. However, the hotel's biggest asset is their staff - we have nothing but praise for them and they certainly made our stay memorable. From the receptionist who greeted us on our arrival to the waiters who not only waited at table but also served in the bar and seemed to be on duty all day, nothing was too much for them. They always appeared happy in what they were doing and always had a friendly word. The same goes for the kitchen and house-keeping staff who offered a pleasant greeting when you passed them. It's situation on the shores of the lake is ideal for pleasant flat walks (or gentle runs) to get rid of some of the calories.

Enjoyed a one night stay, Stamford room overlooking Rutland Water. Spacious accommodation and well furnished public areas, some with log fires. Pleasant bar and delightful restaurant with vaulted roof, exposed brickwork and multi level seating areas. Good location for exploring Oakham and the surrounding area, hotel is set in pleasant grounds and is just 200 metres from Rutland water.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night Christmas Break . The food was excellent & the staff were lovely, friendly & accommodating. Lovely views & direct access to Rutland water footpath were an added bonus. Our room was comfortable but is due an update.

Staying at nearby cottage and wandered in a couple of nights for a nightcap around the fire and also one night for dinner. Thoroughly enjoyed it all. Beautiful huge roaring fire with a glass of red. Certainly enjoyed our visit. Lovely property to just wander around.

My wife booked this hotel and, being a Best Western, I didn't have very high expectations. However, the location is delightful and the staff were very nice. The batteries had run out on the remote control so the TV didn't work but they fixed it pretty quickly. The menu was really poor but I did manage to find one main and one pudding to order. We ordered room service and it was both quick and hot - well done. I would definitely consider staying again.

The hotel very kindly gave us an upgrade and we enjoyed a very nice room with Jacuzzi overlooking the lake. The views are fabulous from this excellent location beside Rutland water, and the breakfast very good .....but there was a colony of kittens huddled outside in the cold which the staff told us they were not allowed to feed, and we were really worried about them! Hopefully calls to the Cats Protection league or Rutland council will persuade the owners to get their neutering organised and maybe give them a shelter or something, I am sure other guests will be distressed seeing them living without food or shelter in the winter.

3 stars is generous I think. Was a good wedding made so by the people there. What let it down dramatically was the bar and in particular 2 of the bar staff! It baffles me when a hotel runs out of a certain beer when they know a wedding is taking place! I don't understand how this happens it's just bad business and a lack of caring. Darius I think his name was, wow what a rude and uninterested member of staff, couldn't have cared less that there was a queue for the bar, his attitude was very much I have to be here but I really can't be bothered! Had a nice evening, the venue itself is a lovely setting but such a shame it was ket down.

Good stay at a lovely historic hotel in a lovely location, right next to the beautiful lake. Good breakfast and evening meal was had. Staff were very professional and helpful. I will stay again, when working in the area.

As previously written, this hotel is in a beautiful position right beside Rutland Water. The wedding reception was beautifully set and the meal was really nice. But our room was terrible - probably the worst we have had. I did complain to the manager and got a reduction. We were in room 6 - a basic room but very small - you couldn't pass each other and half of the room had a sloping ceiling in the roof - so beware of bumping your head. Roller blind had black mildew spots on it and net curtains were ripped along the bottom. Windowsill was dirty and had dead flies on it. The shower cubicle had black patches of mildew all over it. There was no fan in there and only a roof window to let air in which we had to close because we had several spiders come in - one in a large web above the window. I wouldn't get into bed until my husband had got up on a chair to get them down. But worse still was when I pulled the duvet back and there was a stain on the sheet. How the cleaner hadn't seen it I don't know. It wasn't bodily fluids - looked like a stain from the laundry!!! The hotel was full for the wedding so we had no choice to stay put. I couldn't bear to tell the wedding couple about it as I didn't want to spoil their day. If you stay at this hotel it will be worth paying more for a better room. We also found the breakfast wasn't very good - sausages hardly cooked, not brown and the same with the bacon, white fat and no sign of browning. Hotel has a new manager so hopefully she will bring this hotel up to scratch.

I stayed for one night midweek, arrived late but I was given a warm and friendly welcome upon at reception. Spacious room that had recently been decorated and the heating was on which was a nice touch. Good breakfast in the conservatory, which is a particularly pleasant place to start your day as it overlooks Rutland reservoir. Nice place, great service throughout, definitely my hotel of choice when I an next in Leicestershire.

Spent two nights here, attended a family wedding and stayed an extra night. Wedding day and evening do was superb, well organised and a suitable setting for a very happy occasion. Our extra day was spent enjoying the beautiful setting, by hired tandem!!! Just wanted to say the staff were outstanding, especially Darius the bartender/waiter and Daniel, the assistant manager who was happy to recommend a really good place to eat and went out of his way to make us reservations. The hotel is dog friendly and is in a beautiful setting. We will definitely return.

Stayed at this hotel last week for my step daughters wedding. What a beautiful setting next to the lake. The hotel and all its staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was nice and the breakfasts were good. The food provided for the wedding was very nice and I am sure anyone planning their wedding at this hotel would not be disappointed.

Fantastic location and excellent staff. The food at the wedding was hot, very tasty, and delivered as though you were in a five star restaurant. And, I felt really full, as though I had a great meal afterwards. Each course was excellent. Breakfast was equally as good - the scrambled egg was probably one of the best I have tasted. The staff were excellent, polite, attentive and very helpful. Rooms were good. Overall, would thoroughly recommend it, for either a break or a wedding - it is a fantastic location

We got married on Saturday 28th October 2017.. We just wanted to say how perfect our day was. We got married at the church then had our wedding reception at the hotel.. The staff were amazing especially Anna and Daniel hilman-McDonald very attentive and nothing was too much for them to sort out.. The food was very tasty and all our guests complimented us on the food, service and venue.. The views across the water with the sun shining too was lovely.. perfect t location.. Thank you Sarah

Booked a table to meet friends for lunch. The staff were great, the meal very good and the view was stunning. We were not rushed by the staff, but left to enjoy the company and the location. Can't believe we haven't used this hotel before. Already booked to go back!

We got married just over a year ago at the lovely venue of Normanton Church on Rutland Water; our reception was then held at the Normanton Park Hotel just a short walk away - I can safely say it was one of the best decisions we made; we just love the place and the people at the hotel. The day itself was amazing; a sunny autumnal day in October 2016 in this unique of settings - the food was excellent (sticky toffee pudding is worth tasting), they were organised, put us at ease and created a great atmosphere and ultimately a day to treasure. They just went with the flow and adapted on the day to take all our stress away. The location being so near the church meant guests parked up in the morning and did not move the cars until the following day; with nearly all of the guests stopping at the hotel everyone could relax and enjoy the day. 1 year on we recently visited again for our anniversary and all the memories of our wonderful day came back. We booked the wedding suite, an evening meal and breakfast as a package - all of which are highly recommended. The wedding suite has a large Jacuzzi bath and a great view; the food was again top notch (did I mention the sticky toffee pudding is immense) and the setting for the hotel is still amazing. It was also great to catch up with Daniel and Wayne at the venue to reminisce about the day; I can't speak highly enough of them both - they made our wedding day feel special and despite the volume of weddings that they've done over the years they both still remembered us and some of the intricate details of our own wedding. We enjoyed a long catch up chat with them both and look forward to seeing them, the hotel and of course the church in the future. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer due to another wedding booking the place up;darn it for being so popular. We plan to come back every year from now on to celebrate what was an exceptional day. We would thoroughly recommend the place for weddings, afternoon tea, a weekend away, just a meal out or any day of the week.......

Everything went like clockwork at a friends wedding this week. Staff were lovely. Food was great. Location stunning I the conservatory overlooking Rutland Water. Every where clean and tidy. Rooms at an excellent rate too. A short walk to Normanton Church if that's where your wedding is.

Our room Brooke was fabulous for two adults and a 13 year old having a proper third bed, the bathroom smelt of cleaning products - wonderful I like that. From the warm welcome of Daniel on reception and his other staff what a fabulous place. I felt the adage ‘customer is king' was alive and well here. Plus our Frenchie was welcomed whole heartedly. We will be back. Please keep doing what you are doing and thank you!

We stopped off to eat here as we walked around Rutland Water. The setting was lovely and we ate outside as it was unseasonably warm for October. A small but we'll maintained children's play area occupied the kids and the view was great. Staff were perfectly friendly but food was of disappointing quality, although well presented. Tasteless omlette, poor quality calves liver and average quality kids options (at best!). Enjoyed the stop but wouldn't go back for the food.

We have just returned from a couple of nights in a Superior room at this hotel. The first room that we were offered was not to our liking. The room was cramped, the lampshades did not fit properly and the TV was askew. Poor housekeeping. The second room was an improvement although there was only a hand shower to the bath it wasn't an issue. Lovely views that were spoilt by a dingy net curtain that was there to hide the poor paintwork to the french windows. The bed headboard was marked by peoples heads resting on it and damage was repaired by what appeared to be correction fluid. There were two hard-backed chairs and only the bed offering comfort. Very limited space to hang clothes. The room was in need of a complete makeover and certainly not worth the money. The evening meal was delicious and all of the staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was basic. Toast was only done on one side on our first visit. Scrambled egg was on the menu but if you wanted unscrambled (omelette) you paid extra.

Attended a wedding at the nearby church on the lake with the wedding reception taking place in the function room at this hotel, so this was a good choice to stop for the evening. We stopped in the annex just across from the main entrance. Some of the public areas were looking a bit tired but it was clean and we enjoyed our stay. Our room was fine with a comfortable bed. The breakfast in the morning was self-service and was good.

I organise 1 or 2 events a year for 20+ people and this has been the best yet. Venue is attractive and well maintained, rooms are comfortable and clean, food is great or as Charlie said “the best chips ever” , that was our teenagers response, the full menu kept the other 20 equally happy. The staff friendly and helpful allowing me to run my event without issue, perfect wedding venue. Will I be going back? Absolutely

The hotel makes a great stop off for a cuppa and cake when taking a walk / cycle around the lake. Quick efficient friendly service - lovely outdoor gardens with views of the lake. Inside reception requires tlc...mostly older guests. Seemed set up for weddings. Lovely location. Very friendly staff.

All staff very friendley and helpful. Hotel in general need some care and attention. Rooms need a little more attention to cleaning but daddy long legs come out at night and do a lot of the dust and cobwebs. Menu not to our taste but the food we had was good. Breakfast on last day was stone cold.

We stayed for one night in the building opposite the main hotel. The location of this hotel is lovely, right on Rutland Water! The hotel is nice but is in need of some TLC, the first thing I noticed was how dirty the main reception door handle was ! The room was ok, again could do with some modernisation, lamp shades were cracked, marked ceilings and walls. The staff were all excellent and friendly. The breakfast was good as well. Plenty of car parking but bring some comfortable walking shoes to make the most of this location!

Normanton Park Hotel is situated in the most beautiful place and this is really its only redeeming quality. The hotel is ridiculously priced for what you actually get. A basic hotel with basic facilities however paying £100 a night you expect a little more. I stayed two nights, one of them in a family room. This included a pull out sofa bed in a pretty ramshackle room. No hairdryer, no iron and questionable cleaning standards. The second room I had wasn't too bad but very basic, yet again not worth more than £30. Breakfast is included but don't expect anything overly special. 3* Hotel. 5* Price. 2*experience.

Glorious setting on the banks of Rutland water made for a relaxing 2 day stay. The service was as expected from a Best Western hotel namely friendly and very efficient. Breakfast in the pavilion overlooking the water was very good the evening meals exceptional. The room was spacious but suffered from a lack of natural light.

Booked in here for a weekend break at Rutland Water. Great location. We decided to push the boat out (excuse the pun) and take the Bridal Suite on special of £150 per night (normally "from" £180 pn) Tacky, tacky, tacky!!! Wardrobe was locked and couldn't be opened, so we had to hang our clothes on the curtain rail. Jacuzzi only the bottom (excuse yet another pun) jets worked. Wallpaper peeling off walls - although this was generally in line with the rest of the decorating quality, Big four poster bed that would have been nice if it had drapes and was finished properly. The whole room was done in a shabby chic style that looked as if a team of receptionists had done it themselves one quiet weekend. Phone didn't work. Breakfast - Not buffet and they ran out of Lincolnshire sausages several days before.... Now how can you excuse that? I offered to run down to the local shop and get them some. Staff - good receptionists. Management (when challenged to put right faults in room just shrugged their shoulders and said sorry, but there was nothing they could do to improve our lot (We had the best room in the place already!!!) What wasn't dated, was shabbily done-up, and I mean Shabbily with a capital S. Shame. Whole place let down by it. Better on the outside

We popped in for afternoon tea on our walk round the lake. It was bank holiday Monday so we expected it to be busy, and it was. However, they only had minimal staffing, who ran around trying to cope with the influx of customers. They could have serviced twice the customers had they have staffed-up for the number of visitors .... they knew it was going to be a hot sunny day with lots of people wanting drinks, teas ice cream, so why not prepare properly? Anyway, what we had was nice and service was okay, considering the above.

Rooms 4,5 and 6 are not made for tall people or those who want some peace. We tried to sleep early (22:15) but all I could hear were the voices of the receptionist and some guests going on in the courtyard for over 20 minutes. I called reception twice to ask him to be quiet but there was no answer from anyone! At 23:00 the staff started moving beer barrels on the concrete....added to this, the couple in the room next door were acting out some kind of midlife porn scenario.... As mentioned elsewhere, the hotel seriously needs updating and redecorating. One look outside the windows onto the roof shows months, if not years, of neglect. The water system is very noisy too, so soundproofing is definitely required throughout. The bar is under stocked and expensive. One water, two beers and some peanuts were £12. Breakfast was reasonable but nothing mind blowing.if you like scrambled eggs, you'll probably be happy. Don't know if they do fried or boiled eggs, but we didn't see any.

It does what is says on the tin as a 3* hotel. The views are great and thus place is worth a visit. The staff here are 5* but the owners need to provide it with some TLC. A lick of paint and some better decor is needed in places. The bar needs a more modern stock for example they need some better gins and mixers. Perhaps even a jd honey ans some single malts would enhance the range. This place is a bit tired but still worth a visit. Great for walkers and the outside types including those that love water sports. The location is quite simply lovely.

We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel and our kids loved it. Good value for money and the view from the hotel is priceless.Definitely will be visiting agai.There's a children play area and a very good bar.

There's absolutely no doubting that this hotel is perfectly positioned for anyone wishing to stay at Rutland Water with pedestrian access at the end of the garden. The views on the water-facing side of the hotel really are something, especially at dawn and dusk. Unfortunately the room itself was just a little tired and slightly let the experience down for us. The net curtains were pretty grimey and the ironing board wouldn't stay up of it's own accord. We were only staying for one night so just reported our slight niggles on check-out where the staff apologised and assured us they would be seen to. We did not eat at the hotel so cannot comment on that aspect but the restuarant did seem to be bustling the evening we stayed.

We stayed at the Best Western Normanton Park Hotel in July (our second stay there) as a small group of seven to celebrate a loved family member's 80th birthday. The Hotel was wonderful as ever with its magnificent lawned location right next to Rutland Water itself and its views out across the lake. What stood out for us this time was the friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff who looked after us really well. After a lovely afternoon tea on arrival, we hired a small function room for the evening's family 80th birthday party where the food was delicious and caringly served which made part and parcel of a great celebration! We very much enjoyed the remaining days of our stay at this delightfully located hotel and.... to be a little figurative for a moment...if the tranquil and beautiful surroundings of Rutland water and the lake itself could be viewed as Rutland's crown, then this shore-side hotel is definitely one of its hidden gemstones. Do visit!

My wife and I stayed for one night in early July. The setting of the hotel is delightful. We found the hotel staff very helpful, friendly, and efficient. We had a superior room overlooking the lawns and the reservoir. The room decoration was showing its age, but it was perfectly adequate and the room was clean. We enjoyed a drink from the bar, sitting in the peaceful garden, then went to The Clock restaurant for dinner. The restaurant is very pleasant, with crisp white linen and excellent service. We both enjoyed our choices from the menu. The starters and main courses were well presented, tasty, and filling, and we didn't feel a need for a dessert, instead going for a gently stroll watching sunset over the lake. A very pleasant evening! So why only two stars? The problem we had was the appalling standard of the bed and the bedding in our room. The mattress was rock hard, and the pillows very lumpy. We both experienced one of the most uncomfortable nights we've had in a long time. Had this been a Premier Inn we would have justifiably claimed a refund under their Good Night Guarantee (something we have never actually claimed when staying at an actual Premier Inn). We mentioned this to the staff when checking out, who said no one had ever complained about the beds before. However, a scan through Trip Advisor reviews reveals quite a number of other reviews making this very point about this hotel. New beds and/or mattresses all round would rather costly in one hit, but as an immediate move the hotel should consider investing perhaps £100 or so a room at the earliest opportunity on new high-quality pillows and good thick mattress toppers for all the beds. These would make the rooms so much more comfortable. Without such improvements we could not actually recommend anyone to stay at the Normanton Park Hotel. This is such a pity, as it otherwise has so much going for it.

Great location and views- shame it was a little overcast and raining! Had dinner with a colleague and really enjoyed the food! Comfortable beds! Staff were very friendly and accommodating as we turned up early and couldn't do the outside activities due to the weather!

We stayed for the night at a family wedding the room was good the evening meal breakfast and wedding meal excellent the only disappointment was the mark up on a bottle of Prosecco which was a bit much

I cannot recommend the normanton park hotel high enough. The hotel itself is beautifully located, well decorated and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Throughout my stay the staff went above and beyond to help me with anything I needed, especially when we were rushing around before my wedding ceremony at normanton church. We stayed in the teigh suite overlooking Rutland water which was absolutely devine and worth every penny.

We have stayed here before for a wedding and had a lovely room with lake view on that occasion. This recent stay was for 2 nights, with a small group, and previous experience led us to upgrade to a lake view room. Unhappily, this time the lake view was largely obliterated by the presence of a sizeable holly tree touching the room's verandah. In response to previous reviewers reporting this as a problem, the hotel has responded that the tree is in adjoining land not in their ownership - this being the case, this room (Manton) should be de-listed as a room with a lake view. This room is also quite small - only space for bedside table and lamp on one side of the bed. No room at all for even one easy chair. Decor too a little tired and bathroom could do with updating - not really what you might expect of a modern Best Western hotel room costing £111 per night. In sharp contrast, one couple in our group had not paid for an upgrade but were awarded a large room with an uninterrupted lake view - so difficult to fathom room allocation policy. Another couple in our group was placed in a dark, depressing room with window too high to see out from - so rooms very variable although price was not. On the plus side the staff were exceptional - nothing was too much trouble and they were cheerful and friendly in the way they went about their work. Location was stunning and peaceful. Food too, although quite expensive, was really good.

We recently enjoyed a superb family Sunday lunch at Best Western Normanton Park Hotel. Fine linen and views over the lake provide a perfect setting to any occasion. The set menu which offers either 2 or 3 courses is varied and imaginative with ample choice options. 3 courses under £20 is great value for high end cuisine. The food was hot and all 5 of us were served simultaneously. Puddings to die for and a comprehensive wine list. Staff are friendly and the service professional. I booked by phone and my name was remembered. A nice touch. I would recommend you to call and book a lunch. We will look forward to our next meal there.

Just enjoyed a lovely weekend at The Normanton Park Hotel. Fabulous views/grounds matched by fabulous staff, accommodation, service and food. Really good stay, Can thoroughly recommend for leisure and business.

This is the 5th or 6th time I've stayed here over 10 years. It's a lovely spot and the hotel is reasonably priced. I opted for a superior room as these have a view of Rutland Water and are slightly larger. The room was conveniently laid out with a coffee table and 2 comfortable chairs which suited my use of a laptop. The bed was reasonably comfortable and the wifi worked well. Breakfast was pretty good and freshly cooked but I had an evening meal elsewhere so can't comment regarding evening food. Why not 5*? Well a couple of minor points, the shower is not thermostatic and so you have to juggle the taps to get a comfortable temperature. On a very hot night, no fans available. The receptionist also forgot to order my newspaper.

I have visited several times before and stayed in the hotel - all of which have been great experiences. We visited for lunch on probably the hottest weekend of the year! We had a lovely table on the patio with a fabulous view of the Rutland Water. We had burgers and my Mum had the calf's liver all of which were good sized portions and cooked well. The staff were friendly and helpful and I would highly recommend as it made for a lovely family lunch.

We recently enjoyed an overnight stay and found the hotel to be a good standard for a three star hotel. However, where they exceed expectations is the location on the banks of Rutland Water. The weather was exceptional and we were able to enjoy drinks in the grounds watching the sunset. Dinner in the restaurant was very good - tasty, well presented food and good service. We were very surprised how quiet the restaurant was - this is a lovely restaurant and should be busy especially on a Saturday night. Overall we loved this hotel and will visit again.

Stayed here recently on business and it couldn't have been more different from the last experience. The staff were friendly, helpful and happy. The food was very nice and the room (downstairs suite) ticked all the boxes. Cycling around the lake in the evenings added to the overall experience, shame about the rain. Well done to all concerned and hope to see you again soon.

My Wife and I visited this beautiful hotel located on the edge of the very picturesque Rutland water for an evening meal. The food was ok, though quite pricey, we were however disappointed to find that there was a laptop sitting on the bar providing poor quality music through it's tiny speakers and displaying a football match that only the staff were watching. We found the whole experience spoilt the evening for us and the very important good first impressions were quickly reduced to dissatisfaction...I doubt we'll go again.

Lake view rooms are lovely, conservatory lovely room to have breakfast with view of gardens and lake and building is in a lovely setting right next to Rutland Water. The breakfast was good and staff polite and friendly especially Andrew who rectified a problem and really looked after us on our first night. The food in the restaurant was nice, portion size fine for me and friend but husbands found them a bit on the small side, not a huge menu choice but what we had was nice. On the minus side being put in a room with muddy footprints on the tiles to eat our evening meal instead of the restaurant where we were told we would be, a different member of staff (Andrew) to the one that seated us there came and rectified the problem and made sure we were looked after for the rest of the evening, no sleep in the room we were in because of some rather obnoxious people in the next room making a lot of noise shouting about for several hours even after being asked politely to keep it down, to be fair to the hotel this was not their fault. Could not find anyone to tell at the time it was happening but when I told the girl on reception in the morning she apologised and had us moved to another room which was much nicer, a lake view room which I would recommend . It was not good that the muddy footprints in the room that had the tiled floor (and stereo system in it) were not cleaned while we were there and shame the fire wasn't lit !

Receptionist was lovely and welcoming. Special birthday lunch for a friend, so very difficult to complain. The food was atrocious and expensive. The venue needs to up it's game and def find a new chef. In fact not just the chef but waiting stall too. It is of no surprise that the place is empty. But the building has so much potential, and not just as a wedding venue, so such a shame. A venue which I would love to get my hands on and turn around (yes it still isn't too late). Until such time as significant changes are made we won't be returning. Locally there are some wonderful venues around the shores of Rutland Water but unfortunately this isn't one of them. Sorry but Very True
