We had a brief overnight stay in Macon on our way back to Paris. We picked this hotel for price and location. It was very nice and a good value for the money. Close to the river and the central town with shops and restaurants.
Despite being told our room faced the courtyard and parking would be available at a cost, we had a tiny window which overlooked other buildings and there were no parking spaces in the hotel. Macon itself did not have much of interest although receptionist recommended a good restaurant.
Good location. The river is just across the street and there is a promenade where one can go for a scenic walk and take in nice views of the city and the town on the opposite bank. Also an easy walk to shopping and dining options. Good breakfast service. Nice decor. Very good overall experience.
A gem of a hotel we reviewed through TripAdvisor and booked with Booking.com before we left home. Upon arriving we drove through the old and beautiful hotel archway, the receptionist opened the secure entrance gate and directed us to parking bay No5. A truly warm and friendly welcome as we checked in and efficiently directed to our 1st floor room via their lift. The room was modern, clean and cosy with double windows over-looking the beautiful river ta Saone and the little township opposite and was very quiet even though it was on a main road. The breakfast was a well presented continental buffet with a cooked breakfast being freshly made with friendly and attentive staff. Overall an excellent hotel and would highly recommend if in the region looking for somewhere to stay with easy access and close to the bars and restaurants of Macon.
We were welcomed by a lovely receptionist who was friendly and knowlegable. We were offered an upgrade and pleasantly surprised but an units modern room. Walk in shower coffee tea facility. The breakfast was varied all you needed and fresh squeezed oranges.
Nice room, secure parking and one of the best breakfasts we have had for a long time. An excellent choice of hot and cold food. Everything was fresh and tasty and homemade preserves and yoghurt were excellent. Would definitely recommend
I stay in 60 to 70 hotel rooms every year; mostly Hilton properties. But I loved this place! Super friendly service, really good breakfast, secure parking, and Staff members who are courteous, well trained, and hospitable.
We chose this as a stopover on our way to Provence, it was a good call. I hadn't booked secure parking, but found a safe space across the road. Our room was nice, there's quite a funky lounge and all the staff were good. As with the rest of France they do need showing how to make a decent G&T. Breakfast was very good, with a wide selection. We'd definitely stay here again when heading South.
I often use this hotel (sometimes every month). The staff are very helpful and friendly. The hotel is cozy and clean located on the river which access to downtown by walking. It is well know hotel in the city and accessible easy. The breakfast is ok but not bad (one of the few hotels offers fresh orange juice :) )
Second time here in this wonderful friendly atmosphere Hotel. Imperial airways used to land seaplanes on the river Soane across the road from the hotel, en route to Eqypt- India and beyond. So steeped in history. We had an executive room looking out onto the river, air conditioned very quiet with the windows closed. Early breakfasts available but we never partake till later in the day. Will certainly return . PS this hotel is dog friendly but showed no signs of disagreeable odours or 'Gifts ' ! Onsite secure parking at rear of property.
We have choosen this hotel by the central location of the highway and in the city centre. With double windows no noise from the street comes into the rooms. We had the family room with extra baby bed. The childs bed is sofa bed which is good enough for a night. The bathroom is very good with a shower in the bath. The kids loved the single room and we slept the evening and night! We finished with the large breakfast buffet with Maison Yoghurt which is very good! unfortunately we had not a reserved a parking with the booking and the parking was fully booked. We have large car with a box on top, which did not fit in secure parking 700m away with maximum of 2M height!!! We had to park on to street and went oke! In summary good hotel with style for a stop-over.
The hotel combines an old fashion building with old fashion furniture with all the modern ammenities. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good and plentyful. The location is excellent - on the river in the old center town.
A very Nice Hotel in a good location and with friendly staff in particular the guy at the main reception he was great. The Hotel is very nice and grand inside with comfortable rooms and the breakfast includes scrambled egg and sausage (german) and bacon. They have secure parking for motorcycles and undercover which is great. The location is good with quite a few good restaurants a short walk along the main road.
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. It is charming with a very nice balance of old and new. The room was large, bedding exceptional, quiet, and decorations in lobby were done with style and imagination. Very boutique feel. But what I really appreciate is the attentive and responsive staff. We had forgotten to make a car park reservation, and it was full. The young woman at the front desk really raced to help us and ended up offering the hotel's only service spot so we could park. I saw her give the same level of attention to other guests. They really want everyone to have an exceptional experience.
Stayed here for one night on way to Italy and we were really delighted with standard of room and hotel . Staff are friendly and helpful and parking was no problem outside hotel because hotel car park was full. Breakfast was good quality and very nice. Overall lovely quaint hotel and lovely place to stay in Macon.
Great place to stay on the way to south of France as we did but also worth spending more time here as it is a lovely town with some great interesting things going on. Rooms are big enough and clean, lovely breakfast, secure parking, lift etc etc
This Hotel is excellent. The staff friendly and helpful. We stayed for one night passing through Macon. Macon looks like an interesting city to explore so will definitely stay in Hotel Best Western Plus. The room was very clean and bed very comfortable. The bathroom also modern and super clean. The reception reserved us a table in a wonderful small restaurant for the evening meal which we can highly recommend. Breakfast for us was fine - a lot of variety but we've had better.
Have stayed here overnight 3 times recently. Have to say I loved my room the first time so much I asked for it on subsequent stays; The first time I found the duvet (synthetic) uncomfortably heavy so after that they provided sheets & blankets which was much better.Large & very comfy bed. Excellent shower. Room was to the rear of the property with an exterior door (it was above the parking area) & was very very quiet. Breakfast choice extensive, continental & cooked, & infact we didn't stop for lunch on our way home! If you want secure parking book well in advance as not many spaces & on all occassions it was not available however we did manage to park on the street very close to the hotel so it was fine.It is payable on the hotel side of the street (free on Sundays) but free on the other side of the road. Very nice staff. A short wallk to several restaurants. Very well located if your coming off & rejoining the motorway.
This was our second stay in this hotel. Our room, overlooking the river, was clean and comfortable. Breakfast is quite good and there is a sort of bar area for evening drinks. It's easy to drive to and worth booking a parking space in the secure car park. The only thing that let it down was the strong smell of drains in the morning - perhaps there were some plumbing problems.
We spent a night in this comfortable and nice hotel. The room was tidy and of a good size. You can park just outside the hotel. Avoid the breakfast, since you can spend half of the price just outside.
Lovely hotel with convenient location to restaurants and shopping. The staff were helpful and friendly and the room was pleasant and cozy. Everything was clean and in great condition, and the beds were very comfortable. The rooms were quiet and we had a great nights sleep.
We stayed at the Hotel D'Europe et D'Angleterre as a stopover on our way south to Italy and on the way back. Both the hotel and Macon are perfect for taking a break in a long drive. The bedroom was clean and the very comfortable. The secure car park was reassuring as the car was well pack for our holiday, but make sure you book a place when you make your reservation. The staff were helpful and friendly. Location in Macon is good and we walked to the wonderful Au Feu de Bois for an excellent pizza. We'll use it again!
We have stayed at the Best Western in Macon, for one night, for the last three years on our way back from Spain. The hotel is well run, clean and very good value. Plus there is secure parking but this needs to be booked in advance (10 Euros) There's also a decent breakfast to set you up for a long journey by car. Even better now that we have discovered a great little restaurant just 2 minutes walk away. This is Ma Table en Ville and it is really is very good.
This is a very decent hotel situated in the centre of town right across the Saone river. Good points are the nicely decorated refurbished rooms (sound proof!) situated at the back of the hotel. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was absolutely outstanding. Drawbacks are the size of the room and the lack of sufficient parking space (we had to park the car on the street). We were only passing through Macon and therefore stayed only one night. As such, the hotel served its function very well.
Great location on the riverfront, 2 min walk to old town centre. Secure car parking at the hotel. Lovely reception/bar area, and breakfast room, nice details. Rooms ok, nice and clean, plenty of room.
New rooms added last year, spacious with great walk in shower and air con. Fast and reliable wi fi. Parking at hotel or opposite on the river bank is free and safe. An old hotel sympathetically renovated in a great boutique style. Better than average breakfast and excellent service. Outside initial impression is deceiving and it was a great find for a one night stopover.
I have been in this hotel for more than 10 times, it has very nice location on the river & down town, walking distance from many restaurants with all cuisines. the hotel also has very friendly staff that makes you feel home.
The hotel was easy to find, on a busy main street. The friendly staff had our keys ready--excellent! All hotels should do this! The staff was very helpful at all hours. This hotel has a lift. Our room was large and nicely appointed. Instead of one large bed, though, it was the typical two twin beds pushed together; OK but not as comfortable as one large bed. The pillows were all non-feather--great for allergy sufferers, thank you! Unfortunately, there was only a power outlet on one side of the bed--not good when two people need to charge their phones and devices at bedside; a simple power hub on each nightstand would solve this problem. The free bottle water was a nice touch. There is no mini-fridge in the room, but the staff will store any perishables in the hotel fridge. The bathroom had a shower/tub combo with scarcely any mold--great job, housekeeping! The shower water pressure was weak, but the hot water stayed hot. The hair dryer worked well, with multiple speeds and temperatures. The magnifying mirror was great to have. The free WiFi was mostly good, but slow at times; hotels should always strive for strong, working WiFi for their guests. The hotel has a small parking garage that must be reserved in advance. However, there was plenty of parking around the hotel, including just across the street on the banks of the Saône River. If I'm ever in the area again, I might stay here.
Excellent hotel very beautiful and comfortable. Ideal if you are travelling through and need a place to stay. Rooms very clean and comfortable with air con. Bar available but no restaurant however plenty in walking distance. Locked secure parking. Very nice breakfast.
I stayed here with friends in June during a driving holiday and liked it so much went back less than a month later with my husband on a mini break. Rooms come in different categories at various prices. On my first visit I had a standard room with views over the old town, which was fine for single occupancy though may have felt a bit cramped for two. The queen and king bed rooms with courtyard views, which my friends had, are good and the larger river view rooms excellent. The road at the front is busy but the double glazing is effective and the air-conditioning is excellent in all rooms. The bathrooms are modern, have great showers and nice decent sized soft towels. There are areas to sit and relax on all floors, as well as the quirky salon with bar that offers the character of an old building to the comfort, convenience and modernity of the bedrooms. The onsite parking – need to prebook and charged as an extra - is a bonus. As others have mentioned the breakfast is very good offering a full range of options and homemade yogurt and compotes. It is well worth the money. The staff are all lovely, welcoming and helpful. As a base to explore Mâcon and the surrounding area and its wine route is perfect. I thoroughly recommend this hotel.
This Best western has the feel of a boutique hotel and very good spacious chambers. The beds are great and the bathrooms are modern and very good. If you stay here make sure you get a court yard room because the road in front of the hotel is busy.
We stayed here on the way back from Italy and as a short stop-over in Burgundy. It was chosen mainly on cost and as we drove up we were concerned. However, we need not to have been as it was a delightful hotel with some character unlike the big chains. The reception is different (a piano to play if you want) and has a small but adequate bar.The location is extremely convenient for the many restaurants around the area. The room was fine and the bathroom relatively new and, as we were at the back, it was quiet. The breakfast was truely excellent. It had a great range and everything was very well done. Finally, the staff could not have been better. I have not given 5 blobs as this is not a 5 star hotel but if you want a good, modestly priced hotel in Macon you should certainly consider this place.
When we arrived at the hotel, located on a busy road, we were a bit concerned our room would be noisy. We need not have worried. Our room was quiet, tastefully appointed and had a comfortable bed and double shower. The lobby is surprisingly big and fashionably quirky, with comfortable velvet chairs and settees, and includes a bar with a wide assortment of wines. Breakfast was plentiful; you can squeeze your own orange juice, boil eggs to your preference and, if you don't want to settle for regular coffee, you can request espresso. A good experience, one we'll definitely repeat! Indoor parking is limited so be sure to reserve a place ahead of time. Last but not least, for those traveling with a dog, the hotel is dog-friendly.
This hotel exceeded our expectations. Easy to find, on the main road alongside the River Saone. Our room was at the front, so great views. Although the road outside was fairly busy, the room was quiet. There is a secure car park behind the hotel, so ideal for those travelling and leaving items in the car. Staff were welcoming and friendly, and the breakfast one of the best...a huge choice, lovely patisserie and home made jams! You can walk into the centre of Macon from the hotel, and also over the bridge to where there is a row of restaurants - perfect for watching the sun set over Macon.
We stopped here en route back from The Alps. We have stopped many times in generic hotels just off French motorways but with access to Trip Advisor and with the town of Macon only a few minutes away from the motorway we decided to actually stay in the town. We arrived in the lovely reception area at 9am, pre check in, parked our car in the secure but small car park which we had requested upon booking, and the friendly receptionist gave us a map and a walking guide and we set off to explore. Upon our return we took the lift to our room which we found to be clean and comfortable and, as we were at the back, quiet. I assume the front rooms have the fabulous river view but would be noisier with the main road outside. The rooms are not large, this is an old building converted, but the high ceilings make it feel spacious and the price we got was extremely competitive. The bathrooms are modern and well equipped. We did not have the breakfast as it was not included in our room rate and we were leaving early so a coffee and croissant from a boulangerie is all that we need. If we ever have a need to stop in Macon again I would be very happy to stay here again.
Really great place, well furnished rooms and attentive staff. The hotel is very well presented and quite quirky. We took 3 rooms and all were clean and well appointed. Macon is a great place, some good places to eat. We stayed as an overnight before heading to the alps for Skiing.
This was a very nice hotel to visit a few nights while here on business. The reception was very welcoming for an American speaking very little French. The rooms were easy to navigate to and they were nice, comfortable and clean. Better yet, it was quiet. The morning breakfast was pleasant and offered many treats to get your day off to a great start. Parking was tight depending on what time of day you return to the hotel. The river is just across the street with lots of walking, jogging or biking. Many local shops and restaurant were a close walk to get to. All in all a very nice place to call home for a few nights.
Front desk reception was warm and the lady took enough time to answer my questions about the local restaurants. Room was of reasonable size, typical of an old building but with a recent and well equiped bathroom. Hotel parking is available upon request (10€). Breakfast was a bit expensive (14€) but proved excellent: home made jam & yogourt, organic eggs, local cheese, etc... The breakfast room as well as the reception area have a nice old flooring, a preserved ceiling and a kitschy but pleasant furniture. As the fire-alarm rang early morning, most of the guests, including myself were offered breakfast or parking without having to ask for it. That was a nice move !
Macon is a city not very far from Lyon and the Best Western is very nicely located next to the Saone river a few steps from the city center. The hotel is calm evenhough it is next to a four lanes road. The room was nice and affordable with a view on the river. The breakfast was good with nice jams. Definitely I would recommend this hotel for a short business trip.
This was a real find and a hotel you should certainly try out if you're in the area. Facing the beautiful river and with just a short walk over the bridge to the excellent Saint Laurent Restaurant, which we visited whilst we stayed here. The hotel only ever seemed to have a maximum of two members of staff on duty, but somehow managed to handle the whole hotel brilliantly! The young lady who checked us in brought us beers on the outside terrace area just 5 minutes after we had checked in. I've added a couple of photos of the outside seating area, as this was a really nice little area to relax...especially as my room happened to be right beside it. The rooms were nice and spacious too. There is a car park beneath the terrace, but it is tiny and there was no room in there on either of the nights we stayed, so we had to find parking further down the street. There was a nice relaxing foyer area in the hotel, with a small bar, and the breakfast service was good too. There wasn't a huge selection of food available at breakfast, but it was a classic French breakfast.
Hotel staff very friendly. A very nice hotel but was disappointed that when booking you was not told there is renovations going on outside hotel. Which made it hard seeing the name of the hotel when trying to find from the road. The room we had was over looking the courtyard/car park but saying that it was probably quieter than a river few room at the front. The room was small and compact but bed very comfortable for a stop over a good hotel.
I quite enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It is located at walking distance by the center of the town. It was very calm and our room was comfortable. I have nothing to complain about it. I would recommend it and certainly go back if I had to stop in Macon again.
Stayed here for one night on our journey further south and it was a great success. We had pre-booked parking-as suggested by previous reviewers-and were pleased we had as parking on the road outside was full. We chose a deluxe room with a river view. Despite the road being quite busy, the room felt very peaceful. The bed was a UK super king size and very comfortable, and the shower was great. Breakfast the next morning offered a fairly good choice and was available until quite late which suited us very well. All in all, we were really happy with our choice and would definitely consider using this hotel in the future.
In the US, Best Western is a decidedly down market brand (think roadside motel), but this is a very nice boutique hotel in an old building on the river in Macon. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. There is a restaurant with a good breakfast, and it is close to other downtown Macon amenities. The only real downside is the lack of a gym. If you want a workout, you will have to settle for a run along the river.
We stayed here last night, having booked their cheapest room with parking and breakfast. Good welcome, nice room to the rear, the front is currently scaffolded. Lovely shower room, tea making in the room (a real bonus), comfy bed and close to a selection of decent restaurants. The parking was a life saver as on street is pretty busy. The breakfast was first rate with a wide range of options. Very good value for money.
Booked on the road and arrived late. Great welcome, very helpful and friendly staff, great advice of where to eat, very comfortable beds and best hotel breakfast for a long time. Stunning view from bedroom window of the River Saone. Plus secure parking. Could not ask for more. Great stopover from Uk to Italy.
We stopped here on our way back to the UK. Although on the main road it is surprisingly quiet at night. Very easy to find just a couple of kilometres off the motorway. The salon is quite quirky with interesting furniture and a piano, and the bedrooms, although small, had everything you need. The bed was comfy although we only had one pillow each, the room and bathroom was spotlessly clean. This hotel is also dog friendly (small fee charged) and our pooch was made most welcome by all the staff. Plenty of grassy areas to walk the dog along the river opposite the hotel. Book ahead if you want parking, it is secure and only €10 a night. There are a number of restaurants along the front or in town away from the river so you will not be short of places to eat. We recommend Le Lamartine about 5 mins walk turning right out of the hotel.
This was only an overnight stop on the way from Province back to Germany. It was a very good choice--recently modernized rooms were very "right-sized" and comfortable. Although we were on the street side of the hotel, it was very quite. We liked the parking garage instead of trying to park on the street (for 10 Euros). Only problem was getting breakfast: it took a complaint to the front desk to get service after three tries. To their credit, they refunded the breakfast fee. There is not much to see or do in Macon, but it was a good place to stop overnight.
We were able to park our car early in the day thanks to the help of the friendly manager. Macon has an interesting Old Town to visit and it is situated very near to the hotel. Our room was very pleasant with perhaps the main problem being noise from the main road directly outside the front rooms. Some good restaurants quite close and we thought Le Lamartine was a good one.
Back in Macon, I stayed at the Hotel d'Europe again. This time I had a room at the back, a bit dark (under the eaves). Unlike some previous reviewers, I most certainly did NOT have an elegant room with high ceilings. I'm 6-2 [1m89] and I felt claustrophobic in my room, which sloped down at the edge. The hotel is centrally located, has an excellent staff, and offers decent value for the money in Macon. I was there in October, so the room was perfectly comfortable, but I'd be reticent to stay in it during the summer. As with most hotels, the individual room makes a lot of difference. The big positives, aside from the location, are as noted earlier: good beds; very clean; welcoming and efficient staff.
The Quai Jean Jaures section of the road which runs along the river has seen better days from the collection of shops and closed businesses but it to undergo redevelopment, according to the notices. In this case a rather uninspiring facade hides a hotel of stylish reception though with only a closed bar, though drinks can be ordered from reception. There is no restaurant despite having a large breakfast room, and again reception will, if pushed, arrange light snacks. The rooms themselves are large and tastefully furnished, with comfortable beds. The bathroom en suite is well presented with a strong powerful shower. There is a good self service breakfast available.Secure on site parking is available and in our opinion recommended. As said at the start this whole stretch is due for improvement which will be welcome. However there are good restaurants within walking distance, a friendly and helpful reception and the price is reasonable for the quality of the facilities on offer.
My wife and I stopped here for one night when travelling through France. The hotel is on a busy dual carriageway across from the river Saone. The place is very regal, and although we did not eat in the beds were of very high quality and the staff very friendly. Parking outside is in metered bays or, across the busy road, free herringbone bays. TRY AND BOOK IN HOTEL PARKING! Availability of parking outside is very hit and miss!! It is not a place I would choose to stay but the quality of the inside was undeniably high in a rustic sort of sense. We were greeted in the foyer by music from a grand piano supplied by one of the residents! Maybe if I was more of a fine art lover I would have rated it higher on all counts..
The hotel is in a renovated old building facing the river and very close to the town centre. It has elegant rooms with high ceilings, ours had a river view. The car park is in a courtyard behind the hotel. The buffet breakfast is extensive and a good quality with many choices. Recommended for anyone visiting Macon particularly if you have your dog with you as we did.
An impressive hotel which may not be guessed looking at it's exterior. Our room was pleasant and comfortable with tea/coffee making facilities. Friendly and welcoming staff. Breakfast available at an additional cost. We were also provided with secure parking for a small extra cost.
This best Western looks a bit scrappy from the outside and to be honest it is in the run down side of Macon. However a short walk away are very good restaurants and a rejuvenated part of Macon. Inside the hotel is a bit dated in the foyer, and it does have a unorthodox layout. The rooms are compact and modern and wi fi is excellent and secure parking is at 10€ a night. Excellent freezing cold air con. Tea and coffee making facilities in rooms. Good English speaking staff. Breakfast is very good with good sausages and bacon and scrabbled egg and cold meats and cake/pastry selection. The hotel does not serve lunch or dinner. I did not expect this, but I did book in a hurry. Very close to the vineyards and wineries of Pouilly-Fuisse and you can just pop by for a tasting and to purchase, try Domaine Roger Luquet winery in the village of Fuisse(about 10 km from Macon)they speak English and have some superb wines. This best Western hotel certainly has its plusses but there are also the minuses. This is a great overnight stay hotel. 3 star hotel.
Had a few days stay at this nice property, which is located by the river a little away from the central of Macon. Parking is available in the area, but cannot be assured at the hotel. Apart from that nothing but good things to say. Nice room (executive double) great shower, lovely common rooms and delightful staff. Compared to other places on a recent trip to the region we found it decent value too.
It looks like nothing (a bit shabby even) from the outside, but don't let that stop you. Once you enter, you realize that it's not a typical Best Western hotel, but a boutique one. The large lobby has some velour furniture in rich colors, original interesting tile on the floor, large vases filled with flowers... Checking in is easy and comfortable as they invite you to sit down. The staff is very friendly, relaxed and helpful. The rooms are also decorated with some rich colors and subtle tones. The bed was very comfortable, the towels were big and fluffy, good water pressure in the shower (our shower drain wasn't working very well, but immediately after informing the reception, it was fixed). Yes, there are some imperfections, (creaky, old windows, bathroom door that's been painted many times that it sticks...). But it's a 3 star hotel, and for money, it's a good value. If you need parking, definitely reserve one in advance because the hotel parking lot is not very big.
We were going to book online but decided to see if we could get a better price when we got to the hotel which we did! We were given a comfort room which was on the first floor and had a view overlooking the river Saone. The room was big, clean and nicely decorated. There were tea/coffee making facilities and a bottle of water that was FREE!! Finally a hotel that don't charge you for water! Although 2 bottles would have been nice ;-) the hotel itself is in a great location - only a 5 minute walk to the centre. The hotel decor is quirky. The staff were very friendly from when we arrived to when we left. We had breakfast at the hotel mainly because we were given a special price. There was a range of pastries, cereals, cooked eggs, sausages and bread along with freshly squeezed orange juice and an assortment of different teas. For the wifi - this was free. You simply out in your email address and you're connected. We would stay here again ;-)
This is the second time we've stayed at the Best Western on our way to Provence. We booked a room for three, with a king size bed and a sofa bed for one. The room was big, stylishly decorated, and with a lovely view of the river. The staff are helpful, and are happy to recommend local restaurants. I think we may well stay there next year too...
Visited for a one night stopover en route to South of France. Stayed on the recommendation of previous reviews. Arrived and were slightly disappointed by the lack of parking- something to note if you're staying here that you should book in advance. Luckily there was a very affordable secure parking down the road along the river promenade so not a major problem for us. Room was spacious with wonderful views over the river. Very comfy bed. When we left we forgot two of my sons favourite teddies. We got a call from the hotel to say they had them and would keep them safe till we returned to collect them the following week. Unfortunately we arrived late to collect them so the night manager couldnt access the room they were kept. We were promised they'd be posted to us and today they were delivered back to us! That is a true mark of exceptional customer service. Real care for each individual guest. Thank you. We'll be back I'm sure.
visiting this hoytel for long time now we stopped on our way back from Cannes towards Amsterdam for an overnight stay. We noticed the new building added, the refreshed interiors and the improved rooms and new beds . We wre welcomed by very friendly employees and all went very smootlhy. The simple but well prpared breakfast completed our very nice stay in this hotel on the shore of the Saone and in direct walking distance of the center of Macon Jan K
Beautiful furniture in the lounge / drinks room with original effects throughout. Breakfast room just as original ,bright and sunny. Breakfast E14 for a large buffet. Think scrambled or boiled eggs, large selection of perfect cheeses, hams, pastries, very good expresso coffee and more. Situated a long walk from the station but doable. A restaurant was recommended for lunch which did not disappoint . Rooms were modern with good hair dryer , comfy bedding and a small window overlooking the river which is fine as it needs to be closed at night because of the street traffic noises. Would recommend a stay here whilst in Macon.
This is a beautiful hotel that sits behind an old street front façade. It has a real feeling of quality and felt much more expensive than it actually was! Our rooms were spotless and nicely air conditioned and we enjoyed a very comfortable stop over, en route to the south. The staff were helpful and polite. The only slight moan is that you must reserve car parking when you book and we didn't know this and as a result, ended up having to scramble for a space on the main road. We got lucky but could easily not have! Overall, highly recommended.
We arrived after a long drive from Italy, en-route to the UK. We had my 87 year old mother in law with us who had recently been hospitalised in Italy. On arrival we were told there was no parking available and that should have been booked in advance. There was no provision to do this on-line. We paid the full rate for two rooms as my wife had left our Best Western card at home. This was because we had not planned to stay at a Bet Western on this trip. So it was then very difficult to find secure parking anywhere....indeed difficult to park anywhere. Not then helpful to have to manage the cases to check in from a great distance. Impossible to park outside due to cars parked everywhere. Room clean and comfortable. Checked my mother in law into her room and while settling her in.....two other guests entered her room with a key access. Not good....... shall not bother to reccommend this place again. Town seemed a bit run down.
We loved this hotel and had a friendly welcome, secure parking in a gated court yard and just a short walk from town. From the outside this hotel looks a bit run down but on the inside its tastefully decorated with a funky mixture of antiques and modern pieces of furniture. Breakfast was good too, a excellent choice of hot and cold. Highly recommended for a night or two while you sample the local offerings. In particular the local wine :)
We stayed here in June on our way to southern France. Really beautiful view and the bed was so comfortable. The location was perfect as we were traveling with two dogs. The hotel recommended a restaurant down the road
We stayed here both en route to the south of France and on the return leg of the journey. The hotel is delightful - full of character and comfortable for the weary traveller. We are a family of four (children aged 8 and 5) and our room was spacious with a view over the river. Would return.
We stayed at this hotel on our way home from Spain to the Netherlands. It is not your typical on the highway impersonal sleeping stable. The hotel is in a nice historic building with excellent and friendly staff. Provided a very personal atmosphere and service. We stayed in a large room for 4 with excellent beds all very clean. Great breakfast and private parking. We will stay here again!!!
Had a family room with a river view and lots of mosquitoes, probably also on their way south for the summer. Bathroom was a little basic, needs a refurb. The better restaurants along the quay get busy so wise to book ahead. Similarly, you must book a parking spot in the garage. The immediate vicinity of the hotel is not somewhere I would leave a car full of luggage.
We stayed 1 night during our roadtrip from Belgium to the South of France. The cheapest room was at 90 EUR (peak-season.) There's a 5% discount for AAA members but you should ask for it yourself (the staff wasn't aware of it.) The staff is super friendly and goes the extra mile. The hotel is nicely decorated so we believe the friendliness, the location and the good price/quality ratio is what makes this hotel number 1 on TA. It's well-deserved if you ask me. The breakfast buffet is at 14 EUR or at 7 EUR for just a coffee, a croissant and a third thing (I can't remember what it was) but we had the same kind of 'small breakfast' 400 metres further downtown at just 4 EUR. Would definitely stay again when being in the neighbourhood. The room has airco and a safe box. Towels are from organic cotton (I like the idea behind it!) The only thing we missed, was a mini bar.
This was our second stay here when travelling back from Spain. The rooms are quite large and comfortable with a good, modern, well-appointed bathroom and good air con. For an overnight stay it perfectly fits the bill and is good value too. We thought the breakfast was excellent and offered a large choice to suit all comers. Importantly, there is totally secure parking at the hotel, but this must be booked when making a room reservation, as spaces are limited. Also, if possible, try and book a room at the front of the hotel which gives a view of the river - but that also makes it a bit more noisy.
What a quaint comfortable hotel that has the feel of a bed & breakfast with updated bathrooms and technology and excellent air conditioning that you can actually control in your room. You need to lol around reception for distinct interesting decor. The receptionist, Dominique, was so pleasant and competent! A welcome surprise as we head to Paris! We even had fresh figs for the first time at their great breakfast buffet! Our best hotel in the 2 weeks we've been in France! Merci.
My usual half-way stop between Belgium and Italy since years. Fully satisfied. Comfortable, quiet rooms, closed car park, enjoyable breakfast buffet. Honest prices. Easily accessible from the motorway..
Second time we've stayed here en route to Provence, clean comfortable rooms, good bathrooms, excellent air-conditioning and efficient wifi. Arriving about 6 we've managed to park outside both times but there's a large underground car park within walking distance. Friendly efficient welcome, a good night's sleep and a good breakfast in the morning, plenty to eat, good quality and variety. Overall an excellent stopover hotel but I'd happily stay longer. If you're going for dinner on a nice evening, try the river bank restaurants opposite the hotel in St Laurent sur Saone, a better view, evening sun and no road noise.
Just to get this in context, Hotel d'Europe et d'Angleterre was one of six hotels we stayed at on a return journey to the South of France. Some of the others were 5 star (just to spoil ourselves) so our stopover in Macon was really to balance the budget - keep the overall spend manageable so to speak. But this place was right up there with the others! So much character. Nothing to look at really from the outside (so what!), then once inside... wow! Your eyes are just filled with a lovely balance of colour and fantastic decor. So comfortable and so chic, in an olde kind of a way. That's all I'll say on the decor as I wouldn't want to spoil the surprise. The receptionists could not have been better. Friendly, lovely manner, professional and helpful. Macon's not far off the autoroute so a good stopover for the night. I'm not sure if there's enough to keep me longer but I enjoyed the choice of restaurants, bars and cafes to choose from. Right by the river front it does have a Mediterranean feel about it. Wherever you choose to eat or drink I've no doubt you'll look forward to returning to the hotel. A hidden gem, with a real classy (regal) feel about it.
Lovely reception staff welcome you to a great hotel. Parking is available directly outside the hotel which faces the river. A five minute stroll along the river brings you to a long row of excellent restaurants. Walk back from the river one block and you are in the major, pedestrian shopping area. The Room is reasonably spacious with a very comfortable bed, desk space and a huge T.V. The shower was superb: choice of shower heads, both of which worked beautifully and the whole space spotlessly clean. his hotel goes the extra mile to use quality, ecologically helpful towels and consumables. We have stayed here three times in the last couple of years. It is always facinating to see how another section of this vast and ancient hotel has been restored to perfect condition and brought back into use. How they achieve this without disurbing hotel guests is a complete mystery.
I arrived in the middle of the night at 03:00 am. I reserved the evening before a parking space, and it was still reserved for me. The room was clean, the bed great, and the staff very very friendly. I had a room river view, nice to have but not necessary because the street below produces of course its nature some noises. The hotel is clairaudient, i could hear the voices from the room next to me. A big dislike: the water pressure and temperature was not good (and i was on the first floor. I expect to get warm water even when it is 08:00 in the morning and "everybody" is having a shower)
We stayed two nights in May. The rooms were perfectly comfortable as was the bathroom, both were clean and well maintained. There is a lot of road noise at the front of the hotel, so worth asking for a room at the back. Breakfast was extensive and good. Parking is an issue there being only 10 spaces behind the hotel. Worth booking one of these if at all possible, otherwise you are parking on a busy road and having to feed a meter during the day.
My father and I stayed at this hotel for 1 night, the beds were queen size and very comfortable, the room was clean and the bathroom was also clean. We ate breakfast there and it was a buffet with various food and drink, such as eggs toast bacon tea coffee etc. 9/10. Amazing
Wonderful setting facing the river, very central. Quite an impressive entrance hall for a fairly basic hotel. Small bar on request. Bedroom was comfortable and had tea and coffee facilities. Parking- we didn't book a space in the garage so we had to park opposite. Luckily enough that was free, so we saved the cost of overnight parking. Good value room, but we didn't have breakfast. I recommend crossing the bridge and dining in one of the restaurants on the other bank which overlook the town.
Not a lot of choices in this small town nestled in wine country. Although this property has been rated as #1 in Trip Advisor it does not compare to properties that you will encounter in larger towns. This is a small facility, rehabilitated in the early 1800s, once visited by Queen Victoria (hence the name d'Angleterre) that sits on the main road into the old town. Expect to encounter street maintenance throughout the area but it is not a big deal meandering around the obstructions. Parking inside the facility will set you back about $12 a night but you need to book ahead if you expect to gain a slot. Parking across the street is free from 6pm until 8:30 am. The rooms are small, poorly ventilated with no air conditioning but if you are on the river side there may be a breeze. The facilities in the room was standard with only a standup shower. There was very little space in the small bathroom to place your personal. The room was clean and the bed comfortable BUT it was NOT a tempur-pedic style bed (which I own). The staff are helpful and very friendly. The day we arrive they had a plumbing problem which did not get corrected until 5:30 pm so no one was allowed to enter their rooms until the problem was solved. The breakfast was standard for village hotels although the scrambled eggs were runny and loose. If you book through Booking.com or another agency and prepay the hotel still tagged on a small extra charge for taxes--I am going to check on that when I get home since I have never had to pay extra for taxes when I have prepaid a room.
We just stayed one night, Easter Saturday, en route to the south. We had a room at the back which although a little dark, was very quiet so we could have the windows open as it was quite hot during the day. We arrived too early, but they were happy to let us leave all the luggage at reception and it was waiting for us in the room three hours later. The location is perfect in close proximity to all shops and restaurants. Staff are helpful and very pleasant with lots of tips although I usually get the best treatment as a fluent French speaker. Everything was very clean in the room and to a high finish, but highest praise is for the excellent tempur pedic type mattress which was very comfortable. Breakfasts were nice too. Remember to reserve a parking space.
I stayed in this hotel whilst driving between Le Havre and La Tania. It was unfortunately raining heavily which meant Macon was not at its best. The hotel was easy to find. It was on the main road running alongside the river. There are limited car spaces so book one if you are staying. The hotel was undergoing a large renovation designed to increase the number of rooms. There was breakfast on offer which was good and varied in the usual continental fashion. The staff were very attentive and contrary to the normal France habit of ensuring that the entities of British and Customer Service are not to be found on the same page or even same book, the service was good. My room was clean and tidy with the normal facilities. I recommend this hotel as a good stop over.
My partner was upset to hear we were staying at a Best Western hotel, she was more interested in something more luxurious. Well, she changed her mind. This is not bottom end hotel. It has a electric foyer, fantastic staff and good sized rooms, especially if you get a river view. One staff on reception wasn't helpful but the others and the manager were fantastic. If you are staying in Macon this is a great stop off. Pre book your parking if needed as they don't have much, but there is a lot of free street parking 6pm to 8.30 am.They also have a good breakfast.
Very easy to find if you are driving this hotel is situated right on the river Saone which crosses Macon. A quirky decorated older building which preserves some of its character. The rooms with a view over the river are more expensive but worth it. They are also thoroughly double-glazed as they face a busy road. I am usually quite sensitive to noise and had absolutely no problem in the room. Breakfast is of an excellent quality and variety.
We spent a couple of nights here, we found all the staff to be really helpful , positive and customer focussed. The room was clean , cosy and had all that we needed. We had concerns about the traffic noise as we were at the front of the hotel , though it was absolutely fine as the double glazing and extra set of windows ensured we had a peaceful nights sleep. Thoroughly recommended place to stay when visiting Macon.
Nicely decorated place, quiet place in front of the Saone river. The bed was comfortable and the room modern and the room quite small but enough for a single night. Breakfast was quite expensive but the food was local and tasty. The breakfast place is also well decorated
A well situated hotel with nice views of the river Saone. Room was comfortable and the buffet breakfast was good if rather expensive at 14 euros. Parking is available by order and is secure in large private garage that is part of the building.
Well placed more or less in the centre of the historic part of town, te hotel is easy to find as you drive into Macon. It has secure parking which is appreciated when, like us, you have a car full of luggage. The hotel is warm and simply but well decorated. Good-size rooms and decent bathrooms. We chose a room looking into the town as opposed to overlooking the river as felt it would be quieter. A good decision. Very kind and helpful staff who gave us good directions to local restaurants, told us about the markets the following day and gave us good directions for our onward travel the following day. The hotel has a nice looking bar and provides what looked like a very decent breakfast. We preferred to explore the town in the morning and grab a croissant and a cafe au lait on the way to the market!
We only stayed one night on our way to the Alps but really liked this hotel. Staff were extremely welcoming and the lobby/bar quirky and fun. Room was large but simply furnished. Breakfast was included and was good - I'd definitely recommend it. It's only located right by the river (across a road) and close to shops and restaurants etc.
A hidden gem! This hotel is a real surprise. It's full of history yet quirky. Very comfortable beds, big rooms, good bathrooms. Quiet. We had to leave by 5am so no type of breakfast but we've also left by 6am and a cold breakfast was laid out for us. However - I do remember leaving at a normal time a couple of years ago and really enjoyed a deliciously cooked breakfast (I'm not obsessed but do get v hungry first thing!) The hotel doesn't serve lunch/dinner but it's not far to walk to a good selection of restaurants. When we first stayed a couple of years ago I do remember a slight lingering smell of drains (it is a very old building and next to the river). That problem seems to be sorted now.
Walked in 8 pm on Christmas Day, rooms were affordable, staff was pleasant and spoke great English. Decor very quaint and so clean. Upon arrival they gave us free profiteroles- which we didn't collect until we got to the floor of our room since we forgot. The person at front counter ran up the stairs to greet us there with the profiteroles in hand! We ordered food to the room- all local, homemade and delicious. Dinner as well as breakfast very affordable (20 and 13 euros respectively). Great value for money. Only thing we can really say is to add more pillows to the bed, and maybe toothbrush/toothpaste in bathroom? Otherwise- we left vey happy ;-)
We only booked this hotel as a stop over on our way to Italy but car trouble meant we stayed a second night. All the hotel staff ( especially Eliza ) were really helpful and spoke good English. The rooms were warm and spotless, the breakfast was plentiful. On the river side, close to the town and secure car parking, I'll happily return here.
Lovely , helpful young lady greeted us at the reception which was a very attractively furnished room off the main lobby which was another large ,beautifully furnished sitting room/lobby. Our room unfortunately was not on the river but was very comfortable, clean and quiet and breakfast was very good, laid out in another lovely room with great ambience. The best thing for us, arriving by car from Paris was the ease to locate the hotel and the secure parking. Macon and the hotel well worth another visit
I travelled for business purposes in Macon last October. I stayed for one night. Outside some people might think that the hotel is old. However when you go inside you can see that it is very well preserved and decorated. Staff was really polite and very helpful. The room was clean, modern, cozy and noise free. The bathroom was also clean without any odors. Wifi was free of charge and with good ul/dl speeds. Breakfast was very nice. Many choices of great quality and taste. You should not miss it. The hotel is located by the river, in a very nice area, close to restaurants and the city center. I recommend this hotel and if I ever visit Macon again, it will be my first choice.
The hotel has many fine features, but falls a bit short of a 5. For a small provincial city, it's an excellent choice, and I would certainly stay here again. My room looked out on the river, which is a plus-minus: the plus is the view of the river; the minus is the morning traffic. I rise early, so I did not care, but if you like to sleep in, a view of the river will lead to an early "alarm" (as in about 6:30, perhaps earlier). The road is not heavily trafficked late at night, so that's less of a problem. The room was spacious, clean, with a good mattress, but: 1) I ended up with a "king" bed, which was just two single beds pushed together - not great if you plan to share an intimate evening with a companion; 2) the shower-tub had one of those idiotic glass "curtains", which created a very dangerous moment getting out, in particular; 3) breakfast was only fair - lousy coffee, decent food, but certainly not 5-star quality (at 13E50 not a bargain, in my view). Personnel are uniformly pleasant and helpful. If you stay in Macon, in a hotel, I'd say this should be your top choice. I paid about 100 Euros a night, which was a very reasonable price for such quality.
We arrived to be met by a very pleasant and helpful young lady at reception. We stayed in a junior suite overlooking the river which was spacious , comfortable and well kept. We ordered room service breakfast which was promptly delivered and was very well presented with choice of breads & pastries, good selection of jams & butters (not sure why to serve jams in a muffin baking collar?) good coffee and orange juice. Overall a very nice hotel in a good location, close to the main motorway , shops and restaurants. Would return. 5***** to the staff !!!
We stayed for three nights in the Hotel d'Europe et d'Angleterre, On arrival, we tried to get into the car park but were told there were no spaces and we should have booked a place in advance. We hadn't realised this (it is in the small print on the website, but it would be helpful if there was a box to tick on the online reservation form), so we had to park on the street outside the hotel for our first night. We were then able to move our car into the car park for the next two nights, at a cost of €10 per night. We stayed in an executive room with a view over the Saone and the St Laurent bridge. The room was spacious and comfortable, although it felt slightly unfinished, with a mirror standing on the floor alongside a screw on the wall where it should have been hanging. There were two large windows overlooking the river and bridge - it was lovely to see the mist over the river in the morning with the sun beginning to break through. Across the St Laurent bridge are several restaurants, including the excellent L'Autre Rive. The hotel is a short walk into the centre of Maçon. We chose to eat breakfast at the hotel (€13.90 each), which was good, with plenty of variety. We also used the bar in the lobby a couple of times, for glasses of wine one evening and a bottle of Crémant de Bourgogne on another occasion. Staff were friendly and efficient.
We stayed at this lovely hotel for 4 nights recently. We were greeted upon arrival and given a map and suggestions for dinner that evening. The staff was very helpful with other suggestions and questions. We took many day trips by train or bus and they helped navigate us through! The room was spacious comfortable and quiet. The bathroom large and immaculate. We appreciated the coffee maker in the room, cream was provided also. We had a room facing the back of the hotel...there is a busy highway facing the river in front of the hotel. The buffet breakfast was wonderful very complete pretty much everything you could want and fairly priced. We loved French food but craved something different one night...a block down from the Hotel is a wonderful Indian Restaurant. We met the owner of the hotel one day who brought her two beautiful scottie dogs with her...such fun! This is a great place to stay when visiting Macon and the area around it! Would stay there again should we visit Macon again.
I really like this hotel. I arrived early, mid-morning, to leave by bags before venturing out sightseeing, and to my delight they had already been taken up to my room when I returned in the afternoon. The lady at the front desk (I wish I had taken her name) is a real credit to the hotel, a veritable treasure: warm, friendly, charming, efficient, and very helpful. I liked the tastefully furnished lobby, which reflects the long history of the hotel. The location on the riverbank was pretty, but as my room did not have a view, was not really that important to me. I would have liked to have been a little bit closer to the centre and the station as I was travelling by train, but, again, it was not that important. My room was a little on the small side, but very comfortable, with a very nice big bed, a flat screen TV, telephone, air con, a useful desk, very good reading lights above the bed, a kettle for making tea and coffee, but no fridge/mini bar. Wifi was excellent. There was plenty of wardrobe space with enough hangers. The bathroom was great, bright, modern, with both a monsoon and a power shower. The toiletries were good quality, and the towels thick and fluffy. The buffet breakfast was rather nice for France. A choice of cereals, juices, cheeses, hams, jams, lovely breads, croissants etc. The even had scrambled eggs, hash browns, and some delicious little sausages. Only the fresh fruit were a disappointment, they only had apples or kiwis (although there was a fruit salad), in September I would have expected some nice pears, plums, and grapes. Overall I really liked this hotel, and would stay again.
I have stayed several times at this hotel. The staff are helpful and friendly. The hotel overlooks the River. The breakfast is good and the bed is comfortable. Plenty of local restaurants for an evening meal.
A very traditional French hotel, good location on the river bank with the town centre less than a 5 minute walk away, Comfortable well equipped rooms with all the facilities you expect. Good choice of food for breakfast. Book parking in advance as space is limited.
The staff were very friendly, but this is a hotel fitted into a main street right on the main road, it lacks character and is very dated and in need of a facelift. I would say more suited to business people on a one night stay. There are very limited bar facilities and they only offer breakfast no restaurant. That said the staff were very accommodating and recommended and booked a restaurant for us. As we were staying only one night no problem, if it had been a longer stay we would have been upset with the lack of facilities. There is very limited parking you have to book and pay an extra ten euros..We also found the room to be very small and the air con was extremely noisey
Just stayed for three nights in this hotel. The room we had was very spacious and comfortable. Good location on the river side. Close the the shops, restaurants and historical sites. Would recommend a visit to the old hospital! Plenty to see in Macon. We didn't take the breakfast but it looked okay. Would recommend you book a parking space and they only have a few and the road outside was always full!! Thank you to a previous reviewer who recommended this as we would have been stuck without it!!
More than adequate for one night passing through, which we were. The hotel is well positioned on the river and a room overlooking the river is best, I'm sure. A short walk over the nearby bridge goes to a number of restaurants which is also very convenient. Didn't have the boring chain hotel feel, as Best Westerns seem very individual in our experience. We had a decent, largish, clean room with a good bathroom. One tip - well worth booking a parking space when you book a room (they are limited and quite cheap) Breakfast was good and staff were very friendly & helpful.
We arrived in the rain on a motorcycle and we were directed to a covered garage which was far more than we had expected. The reception staff were very helpful and recommended and booked a fabulous restaurant for us to go to. The rooms were very comfortable and well appointed and in general the hotel was very well appointed
I can only echo comments from a previous reviewer about this hotel having a feeling of past glories about it. That said, our rooms were spotlessly clean with decent beds, and the breakfast, with a few hot choices, better than the usual continental fruit, cereal and pastries. We booked the hotel for its central riverside location and the fact that it had secure covered parking - this needs to be booked in advance. Although the riverside setting is attractive, the immediate surroundings of the hotel offer little, and you need 10-15 minutes walk to find decent restaurants. We thought some of the nearest on the river on the same side as the hotel were a little tired and 'touristy,' and enjoyed walking across the river to St.Laurent sur Saone where there was a better choice and quality of places to eat. The reception staff were delightful. For a one night stay, the hotel offered all we needed.
The hotel has a feeling of past glories about it. The rooms are of a good size and the cleanliness appears of a good standard. I am glad we booked the car parking as there is only a few slots, but the hotel confirmed it was reserved straight away which was great. Breakfast was very good and enjoyed by all. It is a shame that there is no food available at other times of the day, as when we visited on a Monday night there was not a lot open close by to get to with a disabled child (without having to get the car out) I thought the staff were excellent, extremely pleasant and helpfull
We've stayed may times in Macon and this hotel was one of, if not the first we stayed in. Back then, in the 1990's, it was an independent hotel; once grand though now rather run-down but being resurrected by a delightful couple who had a limited budget so progress was slow. It was unfinished and quirky but a delightfully idiosyncratic place to stay - even though the parking resembled musical chairs as it was somewhat limited and the owner had to shuffle cars in and out as guests arrived and departed! Move forward to 2015 and the hotel now a Best Western, re-opened about two years ago if I remember my conversation with one of the charming staff correctly. Sadly the previous owners were unable to realise their dream but there is a lot to like about this incarnation. Our room was at the rear on the third floor. Nicely re-furbished with an adequate en-suite and associated trimmings. The excellent bed made for a very good night's sleep aided by the A/C. We had problems with the TV and Wi-Fi access which were resolved next morning by Reception Staff but felt more information in the room about the hotel and its protocols and procedures would have been helpful for guests. We didn't take the breakfast option as it seemed expensive to us ( by coincidence our next hotel, one we use more regularly, has a similarly extensive hot breakfast menu but at almost half the cost). Our biggest problem was not reserving parking. In the past we have/have not used this extra and it didn't make that much difference. On this occasion it was extremely difficult to find on-street parking after we returned from an evening meal just outside Macon itself. Because the road outside the hotel is dual carriageway if you miss a potential parking spot you may have to drive for some distance before you can double back and try again. I don't know if the hotel has enough parking spaces for each of its rooms but, now that it has been fully re-furbished I suspect it does not (it would be well worth checking this). Personally we would not take a room here again unless we were able to reserve parking onsite and would strongly recommend others to do likewise. I haven't mentioned the public areas. The new entrance is rather impressive and much more functional than its predecessor and the re-modelled ground floor areas are light, airy and welcoming. All in all I can see why the hotel has gathered so many positive reviews, but a small part of me will always wonder what might have been...
i didn't actually get to stay at this hotel as it was full. Having got stuck in horrendous traffic on the way back from the south it was evident we were not going to get to our booked hotel in Troyes. We pulled off at Macon and tried hotel after hotel all telling us another one had rooms which they didn't! The receptionist at this hotel took the time (I must have looked really frazzled by then) to ring another hotel for me and found me two rooms for the night. Wonderful customer service and I will definitely go back. Thanks so much my granddaughters had almost resigned themselves to sleeping in the car!!
Although rather dull exterior the lobby and rooms are well decorated in the late 19th early 20th century with a lot of thought expended on the decor.Room overlooking the river is a must. On street parking outside as well as secure parking if booked. At €142 including all taxes this hotel is reasoanble value , great sleep quality. Pleasant and welcoming reception. Dogs welcome at hotel, not my idea of joy.
Easy to reach by car. A very cool decorated lobby with a bar opened 24/7, serving good Wiens. Nice, clean rooms a little on the small size. Hotel parking at the rear. Located close to nice restaurants and the river. Friendly service.
Don't be fooled by the exterior appearance or the somewhat run-down nature of the adjacent properties. This hotel is a gem. Helpful staff, secure parking, grand architecture, comfortable bed and rooms, in fact a great experience. There are also some excellent restaurants within easy walking distance - but on a Saturday you'll need to book.
All good Excellent staff very helpful made most welcome we even had a free glass of wine from the owner lovely lady. good location plenty of secure parking. would definetly use this hotel again if passing .it made a pleasant change for a multiple hotel to give a family run feel
This hotel has a very special atmosphere: an attention to detail and service that is apparent from the moment you sit down with the owner at reception. Breakfast is not to be missed. A pleasure to be revisited - thank you.
