Yes, the decor and furniture in the communal areas is in need of a refresh, but don't let this put you off. We had a junior suite and it was wonderfully decorated and furnished. And it was huge. You could have held a wedding reception in there. We appreciated the space, having been on the road for over a week. The perfect place to rest up and relax. Handy for the central train station and the Metro, you're given a free pass for the Metro at check in. Breakfast was nice with a wide range of things available. But, it was the service that made this hotel stand out and one person deserves a mention amongst the staff. The woman who checked us in on the evening of Friday 25 October 2024, with the long straight dark hair was exceptional. She clearly put the guest's needs first and foremost and her energy, willingness to help and extra warm welcome confirmed we'd made the right decision to stay at the Hotel Victoria, right from the off. Thank you, Madame. That's what hospitality looks like!
My husband and I stayed at this hotel on the 13/12/23 for one night. Reception requested a deposit payment in addition to their rate which was deducted from my account. To date I have not received my deposit despite requesting same. They are ignoring my emails. Beware of this hotel, we stayed at 8 other 4 and 5 star hotels and were never required to pay a deposit upfront. The bed is also terrible at this hotel. We do not recommend this hotel and will definitely not be staying there on our next trip. If you read the reviews breakfast is also not popular. BEWARE!
Central located hotel in Lausanne, very and clean, rooms are spacious, clean and well decored. Very large bath room with shower and a good set of anemities. Breakfast is good and with a large variety of dishes. Personal at reception very attentive. ONLY point, with the shorte water siuation, hot water comes after several minutes, long time, so waste of water is a matter
The location of this hotel is brilliant for access to the main railway station and the metro but it's not the old town so the restaurants are mostly fast food and no Swiss food. It doesn't look very special from the outside and the lift is not easily accessible on arrival. The decor is old fashioned and antique but is clean and well looked after. Our room was on the 5th floor looking over some roves and the station. As someone else pointed out in a review the aircon wasn't working but we opened the window instead and it was nice to have fresh air as the room was very hot. The room was a reasonable size with an old fashioned desk, 3 chairs that weren't very comfortable. However the bed was extremely soft. We only had one pillow each and that was also very soft. I woke up with bad backache. I knew as soon as I sat on the bed when it just sinker that it would be soft. There was a small entrance area in the room with plenty of wardrobe space, a safe and a mini bar/fridge. There were no tea or coffee making facilities. The bathroom was quite small but the walk in shower was efficient and spacious. There was a big mirror behind the door in the bathroom and over the sink but none in the bedroom or entrance area. There were electrical sockets by the beds but they don't use standard European plugs. However we knew there were specific plugs for Switzerland alone so we bought one at the airport on the way out. Apparently they do loan them out from reception. Breakfast isn't included in the price which makes the hotel not such good value for money. I had missed this in the small print when booking. It wouldn't have stopped me booking but I would have definitely not had the breakfast and would have eaten outside the hotel instead as there were lots of places especially as I'm not a big breakfast eater. The receptionist who checked us in did not point out that their was a charge for the breakfast. It cost 20 Swiss francs per person per day and although the quality was good it was not worth that money. We kept wondering why there was hardly anyone in the breakfast room but then we realised why as people didn't want to pay for it. The reception staff on the whole were friendly and helpful. They gave us a free metro ticket which was useful. It was a good clean hotel with nice staff but not cheap.
Liked · The large room was quiet, decent bathroom. Good lighting and WiFi. Room minibar but no kettle. We had a parking place outside which was great (and free) for Geneva. There are about 6 of these only. Location is good for station and visiting new museum centre at platform 10. Steep climb to old town but you can take the metro with your free travel card. Disliked · Steep steps for luggage - there is a special lift but you need to ask to use it and the staff had disappeared when we tried! It goes down into a crowded basement. Breakfast is not impressive. It is arranged in the lounge, few tables, with a very modest buffet - nothing special to justify Sfr20 pp. We went out as there are many places around the station but a 4 star hotel should do better.
Great location with clean fully functional rooms. The pricing for Switzerland was reasonable. The staff very friendly and helpful. Location is close to everything and is easily within walking distance. The hotel also provides free vouchers to the public transport services for the day.
The hotel is a few minutes walk from Lausanne Gare, so we find it very convinient for us to reach the hotel after our flight from Schipol to Geneva, and then about an hour by train from Geneva to Lausanne. When we checked in, the hotel lady provided each of us a QR code coupon for free use of public transports in the city (subway, buses), and this really makes our stay there more comfortable and enjoyable. This is a boutique 5-storey hotel, and if your room is is a high floor, you can see the beautiful Lac Léman out of the window. The hotel is old, but it is well maintained. There are several interesting places aound to visit, and definitely, you can walk, or take the subway to Port Lausanne - Ouchy. Spend your time there to enjoy the beautiful landscape, before you may want to visit the Olympic Museum which is just about 10 - 15 minutes walking.
We chose this because it is near the station, and it is only about 100 m away down a side street, so not noisy. It appears to be quite an old hotel with rooms around a 5-storey high light-well. Our room was large with a large bathroom (but only shower not bath). There was only one usable power point as the others required a swiss-style plug not the continental type which works nearly everywhere else in Europe. Breakfast was buffet-style but rather basic, certainly the least attractive one we had of 6 hotels in 3 countries on this trip. But we had a few problems. The reception is on the 1st floor, and there is a lift which goes from the ground level, but the door to it seemed permanently locked, so you have to carry your luggage up a longish flight of starts to reach reception and the lift. When we arrived the receptionist could not find our reservation - thought it was made online directly with the hotel. It turned out that the confirmations are not automatically generated as one might assume, but have a human in the chain. And that human had entered it for the wrong date. After a 10-minute delay they found our booking and fortunately still had a room for us. They admitted that it had been entirely their mistake. I think most hotels would have given us an upgrade or a discount to compensate for this error - but not here. Then when checking out the bill was too large. First they had charged us for breakfasts even though our booking said they were included. After some delay and argument they rather grudgingly made out a new bill. Then we found the new bill included the city tax as an extra, even though the original booking said very clearly that ALL taxes were included. It took about 20 minutes of argument, including a phone call to some manager, to get that resolved in our favour. Whey the wanted all that aggravation just to save a couple of francs I've no idea. We shall now never use that hotel again. The staff clearly need much better training and they need to ensure that if some taxes are not included then all confirmations state that clearly.
Hotel Victoria is literally a 3-minute walk from the central train station and one minute from the metro going to the lake and to the old city. We stayed in a large tastefully renovated room on the 5th floor. The hotel gives passes for free transport within the city. The best thing about this hotel are the helpful ladies at the Reception, the Portuguese lady Christina in the evening, who kindly showed us other room options when we did not like our assigned room, and then directed us to the Christmas Markets, Illuminated Buildings and authentic Swiss restaurants in Lausanne. Another very special lady was Virginie, the lady in the morning shift, who was always smiling and ready to assist in everything. She went out of her way by calling the restaurant we had booked the previous night and requesting a special table for us, which we thankfully got. She also advised us to go to the Olympic Museum, a must see in Lausanne, and pass by the Beau Rivage and Chateau d'Eau cult hotels on the lake. A memorable stay in Lausanne! God willing, we will return to Victoria Hotel in the summer.
Discreet, older, boutique hotel conveniently located approx 100yds (100m) from Lausanne Gare (train station). Hotel bed was a bit too soft for our ideal comfort, and the thermostat seemed to be purely decorative, but the room itself was quite spacious, had windows which opened and was pleasantly decorated with antiques in an Asian motif. Staff provided us robes, slippers and a minibar refrigerator (which was quite nice at this lower/mid-tier price point). Hotel Victoria was quite clean and a perfectly situated accommodation for a week-long stay. The property serves as a great base from which to explore Swiss cities along the Golden Pass panoramic train route (and others, as well)). Breakfast was tasty and offered a variety of hot veg, eggs, bacon, sausage, pastries, coffee, tea, milk, juices, and cold cuts which likely suit guest preferences from most western countries. Desk staff was very friendly, flexible and knowledgeable and went out of their way to expedite a laundry item that I had turned in past the regular morning deadline. Although other reviewers have noted the hotel is older and in need of updating soon, the climate control issues are what keep me from rating this hotel more highly. If not for the cool (5-7C/40F) temps outside (and our 2 nice double windows open) we would have sweltered. Despite the age of the property, I felt the room was pretty clean. (Only dingy spot I really noticed was the floor outlet behind the night stand I had to run my power cords through to charge my devices). However, with so many antiques and period pieces there is the danger that the hotel and decor deteriorates from “quaint/quirky boutique” to “funky/dilapidated hovel.” Fingers crossed the Victoria can stay viable with a few timely, minor updates to the climate system, more modern/convenient power outlets, refreshed flooring, and other minor tweaks—all while still maintaining the wonderful historic character of this classic-style, open atrium, hotel.
Hotel is conveniently located 5mins from train station and metro. Although there is a steep but short slope to the hotel, guest with heavy luggage please beware. The hotel room is very clean and bed is comfortable as well. If rooms are equipped with iron and board instead of going to the laundry room then that will be great. Staff are also very nice and friendly (speaks English).
First of all, receptionist was so rude, generally hotel is really old and has really poor breakfast but room was large and tidy. I stayed in this hotel for business if i would have an options i would rather other alternatives around, they are better and cheaper.
Once likely a nice hotel but clearly in decline in. I chose this hotel strictly because I wanted air conditioning. The AC in my room did not work and I was told they may not have another room because they were full. After I complained I was given a room with working AC. At checkout I had to wait in a long line even though I had no additional charges. I was told there was an additional tax that was not disclosed in advance.
We stayed here for two nights and it was very convenient, very clean and comfortable. It is located a block from the railway station, ( turn right upon exiting station, look for the Hotel sign within 2 blocks. ) The staff were friendly, the room was quiet and comfortable. We found Lausanne to be too boring for us, but that's not the hotel's fault. They blew it when we asked for a wake up call, I would set your own alarm. Other than that I would stay here again. Good value.
