Decent hotel, for the price-range. Rooms are adequate for our one night stay. Wouldn't want to stay for a week, though. Staff are not unfriendly, but seem 'absent minded', at times. Run by all students, I suppose. That was a weird experience. Car park w/ charging station for our car was a nice addition. Warning: the charging rates are steep! Better use the outside ones. Breakfast is mediocre, but lots of fruits available. The fruit-mix tasted a tad 'off', but that could very well be my personal taste. The bedrooms are clean and the bedding is average. We slept well, although there was considerable noise from outside. Bathroom is basic but clean. Amenities are meh. Location is excellent; just far enough away from the city centre and nearby enough to walk. City centre is a ten minutes walk away, where you will find everything you need. Bars and restaurants in the city are generally excellent. Three star hotel, imo.
This is a very good hotel and I will stay here again. I travel to Groningen on a quarterly basis for business. It is within a 10 minute walk of the center of town where you will find any type of restaurant you could want. The breakfast buffet is very good and the wait staff are very friendly. The only drawback is that they advertise a laundry for guests but that is only if you reserve one of their apartments. If you reserve a room, you must use their laundry service.
I would highly recommend this hotel! It was truly exceptional! Breakfast was very good, rooms were clean and the mattress was extremly comfortable. I was especially with the friendliness of the staff who were more than accomodating in every way! Thank you very much! I would definitely consider staying here again.
Stayed in the hotel twice for a company seminar. The hotel is quite okay, a lot of restaurants nearby and parking garages on walking distance. Breakfast is good and so are the rooms. Unfortunately the management is not very flexible. A few days before the seminar we wanted to cancel some rooms, but this was no longer possible. This customer unfriendly treatment is a reason for us not to use this hotel anymore.
I reached this hotel on late evening on a weekday. I had called them up about late arrival earlier in the evening. But on reaching, I was surprised to hear that they had no free rooms for me. Finally after trying, they allocated me a temporary room which had to be changed later. By the time I reached my room, it was 11pm. Although the room was basic, I was so tired that I just crashed into the bed. Comfort rooms are small. No Amenities in room other than the electric kettle. Even shaving mirrors, soap dispensers are missing. Breakfast available at additional cost. I have stayed in much better neighboring hotels in Groningen at the same budget.
This Hotel is the best. Great location, walking distance to everything. The Hotel staff is all so friendly and kind. Hotel staff speaks English which was very helpful. Staff was willing to help us with directions and transit and any other questions or concerns we had. The Breakfast is phenomenal. Choices of pastries cereal, donuts, assorted meats and cheeses, assorted breads, scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, yogurt and every kind of topping imaginable, coffee, tea, juices, etc, etc, Large area to enjoy breakfast.
I tried calling the hotel several times to inform us of a late arrival, but they would not pick up the phone. Only on the fifth or sixth time calling them, did I get one of the receptionists on the phone. At check-in, the key card programmer was not working and we had to wait quite a but while the receptionist cycled through 30 cards to try an program one. The hotel is an older building. The rooms are not up to modern standards anymore. The windows appear to be single glazing in metal frames. This makes it easy to hear noises from outside. And Groningen being a student city, there is quite a bit of noise. The rooms are heated by a radiator and controlled by a knob on the radiator. The room was cold on arrival and took quite a long time to warm up. There is no safe in the basic and comfort rooms. There is also no safety lock on the doors. The location is about 15 mins walk from the railway station and 15 mins walk to the city centre.
We stayed at the apartments across the road from the hotel but which gives you all the facilities of the hotel. I really liked it. The rooms were spacious. The lounge, kitchenette area and dining area was great and very well furnished. Our ground floor apartment had a shared terrace outside which was nice to have. You can use the hotel's gym and help yourself to coffee and tea in the hotel reception. The bathroom was a bit small and had no shelves or cabinet to store toiletries which was strange. The cupboard shelves/space was also very limited and we couldn't unpack much of our baggage at all. Apart from that it is well located to city centre and the canals and we'd stay there again.
One night stop over. Got a spacious 4th floor room. Even little earlier than regular check in time. Fast check in, quick wifi, good matress, free coffee/tea in lobby as well Coffee/tea facility inroom. City Centre a few minutes walking. Mainstation ca. 15min walking.
Out of the four hotels we stayed in during our time in the NL, this one was our favorite. Incredible beds and the shower was fantastic. Friendly check in and check out. Great breakfast - fantastic and wide ranging selection. A lot of Germans visit Groningen which is a charming town. Great location that was central to both the town center and the train station.
This hotel is our go-to place when visiting Groningen. Fairly central ( all in walking distance) practical and functional with convenient parking facilities. Staff is normally very helpful. Rooms are clean and mist rooms have nice city views.
The hotel was exactly where we wanted to stay, and parking was reasonable value for such a central hotel. We upgraded to a bigger 'Comfort' room as we wanted a canal view, and this enabled us to have people to socialise with us in the room when all the hospitality venues were closed at 5pm under the new Covid-19 regulations.
Great place to stay for whatever reason: a city visit, but also work visit. Spacious rooms, rather business like. Coffee/tea in room, also free in the lobby (a plus!), and breakfast is very good. I liked the location: easy to reach by car or train, close to the center, but very quiet. Beds are a bit soft, is my only small remark..
Hotel has its own underground parking which is a plus in the city centre. Had a room with a view over the canal. 5 minute walk to the shops and cafes. A good base for a trip to Groningen town. Hotel had good Covid rules. Clean room. Would stay again
If you are planning go to groningen don't Miss this superb hotel! Excellent staff, superclean rooms, perfect location close to the city center (walking distante) excellent quality for money! Don't Miss this hotel
We stayed in apartment 24 for one night last week on our way to Denmark. We had a couple of questions beforehand which were handled quickly and well by Raliaa. When we arrived it was Raliaa who checked us in and she was delightful. A real breathe of fresh air. She wakled us to the apartment
The hotel is close to the city center and within walking distance of the central railway station. The Oosterpoort public parking garage is a stone's throw away where parking costs 12 euros per day (I think the cheapest in Groningen center). The rooms are on the small side (I always take a standard room). But everything necessary is there, including the possibility to make coffee. The internet is fast and easy to connect. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Was in Groningen for work and cannot fault this hotel. Reception staff were very attentive and assisting in booking taxis, which can be a bit tricky in Groningen. They also provided an iron and ironing board, as the room didn't have one. The hotel is fairly central, but on a quiet street, so had a good night's sleep. The building is fairly tall, so the rooms on the upper floors (which I had), had some great views. There is plenty of free tea and coffee in the reception and there is a supermarket a 5 minute walk away, if you don't want to pay hotel prices for water. There is a nice looking bar (which I didn't manage to use) and a large breakfast room. The breakfast was very tasty and plentiful. No complaints about the quality at all. The rooms are large and a bit clinical. Twin beds rather than double beds, which is not ideal. The room has a kettle and tea / instant coffee and a flat screen tv. Beds are comfortable. The bathroom is a tad bit dated, but very large and clean. If I am back in Groningen, this is where I will stay. This is perhaps not as lively as some of the other hotels, but excellent value for EUR 100 and a very comfortable experience. Stayed in June 2019.
The property was in a great location, close to the city centre & train station but was rather bland & soul-less. We were on one of the upper floors so had a great view but the room, although well appointed was unfriendly and rather bleak. The twin beds pushed together is a big negative for couples who are used to sharing a bed - the constant gap between the mattresses was annoying! I get the need for double to twin adaptation but attach the mattresses please! Also make it clear where to plug in the hairdryer in the bathroom - it took me a long time to work that out!! The staff were friendly, efficient & helpful &, of course, spoke English...it is the Netherlands! Parking was convenient & secure. Breakfast was the usual average continental. Coronavirus precautions were clear & concise.
Rooms were large, and clean. Internet worked very well. Reception was friendly and quick. Two points could have been better: 1) there was no airco, and those days temperatures were exceptionally high. Opening windows was not a real option due to street noise until 03:00 AM. 2) Parking was good given that we have a big car, but the need to leave the keys at reception is a bit annoying.
Friendly staff , both at check in and check out. Decent room with great views, but unfortunately the bed was uncomfortable. The car park is small so we didn't manage to get a space. They have a deal with a car park nearby.
Pros: - Room quality: it was spotlessly clean, comfortable bed, tea and coffee making facilities, nice view, very quiet, and good sleep quality. - Location: Very close to the centre but on a very quiet street. It was so easy to get home after our night out, and to walk to the train station the next day. I'd definitely stay here again. - Staff: friendly and helpful upon check in and check out. - Price: overall great value for the location and room. Although see below for slight con. Cons: Air conditioning was €10 extra per night. I expected it to come as standard with the room. I'd definitely stay here again next time I'm in Groningen.
This is a really nice comfortable hotel sharing a modern canal side property with what I assume is some sort of civic / education centre - anyway, the hotel bit is spotlessly clean and very comfortable indeed - staff were informative and professional - ideally situated within easy flat walking distance of the centre, with loads of nice restaurants and bars nearby - parking in the underground secure car park was approximately 18 euros per night - the actual size of the car park is quite small and the hotel insist you leave your car keys at reception so that they can move your car around to let other guests out - I'm not too keen on this as I love my car and I don't like the thought of anyone else using it - when we arrived I deliberately parked the car in such a position that it would definitely not block anybody in and would therefore not need moving for the duration of our 2 night stay, but on our departure, it had been moved !! - not too happy about that !
The hotel lobby might seem a bit impersonal but this is more than compensated for by the fabulous staff. The welcome is warm and friendly, the rooms are spotless and really nicely refurbished, the breakfast is comprehensive and plentiful, and the price is very reasonable for a hotel that manages to combine ease of access to the centre with a calmness more normally associated with a sleepy suburb.
Very good value for money. Nice staff, clean rooms, good breakfast, nice goed, next to good restaurants. Just to get to the 200 songs, I really recommend and. Also the museum, city center is very close.
A nice hotel. Rooms are spacious and clean. The staff is very kind and competent. Large common spaces and a better than average breakfast. I was there for a restricted collaboration meeting and also the infrastructures worked properly.
The hotel is ideally suited close enough to the city centre to be convenient but far enough out to not have the sounds associated with the late night student city activities. Free coffee area makes for a great space to catch up on work without just staying in your room. Parking is offered but try book ahead of time. Breakfasts were typical hotel style but with local touches. Thanks to all who made our stay so comfortable.
Travelled to Groningen for the first time to meet a new client. Travelled with a colleague and wanted a good quality but comfortable hotel in the centre so we could explore. This hotel has apartments and so we chose to stay in one with 2 bedrooms. Very modern, clean and comfortable. Has all the facilities you would want and was quiet. It is near the centre so we could explore and the breakfast was wide ranging and superb! The staff were also very warm and welcoming.
the staff are what makes this hotel so enjoyable the are always polite and helpful and i find this make the hotel a very pleasant place to stay, the price paid was a reasnable price for the standard of the hotel
We booked 3 nights at this hotel, on arrival we drove to a parking space outside the front of the hotel. On checking in we were offered a free upgrade to one of their apartments, we assumed it was within the hotel but we were shown across the road to a beautiful looking house. On climbing the stairs to the top floor apartment we were shocked how wonderful it was! Spacious, great views with a balcony overlooking the water. A fully self contained apartment, coffee machine, oven, fridge, dishwasher etc. Separate toilet and bathroom and lovely bedroom area, plenty of towels, hairdryer, lounge had comfy sofa, table and chairs etc. They valet park your car and parking is an extra cost each day, €17 I believe per day, not too bad. If you're in the hotel itself, there's seating area and free hot drinks in the lobby. We had breakfast on our last morning and it was very nice, plenty of choice and good quality. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone, location is great, easy to drive to, although mind the cyclists! Groningen is a wonderful city, plenty of places to eat and drink. The hotel hires bikes if needed too.
Conveniently close to the heart of the city. We really enjoyed our stay. Room was fresh, well apportioned and has a large bathroom. Breakfast was ok. The hotel is in an historically rich building. Convenient parking under the building but make sure that you are not parked in.
Once we got to the hotel it was great. However, if you are travelling by car you need instructions on how to get to the hotel. All the old town is either one way or completely blocked to traffic. Maybe an updated sat nav would have done better, but I left the car the other side of the water and walked to the hotel in 2 minutes to get instructions on how to drive there (it took 15 minutes - the draw bridge was open). The staff were extremely helpful. The car was parked by staff in their underground park. The room was comfortable and the view over the canals was great. Free tea and coffee is available downstairs. Breakfast was fine. There are loads of places to eat all around. Watch for the bicycles!
Stayed here with in laws on an overnight stop. Good location and had an excellent view of the city from top floor. Plenty of places to eat out within walking distance. Breakfast was good with a great choice. Room clean and tidy. Staff at reception very helpful. Only issue I had was that you had to leave your car keys at reception as they were double parked in the garage. I am not comfortable with this after seeing all the protective foam around the pillars in the garage. Lucky we found space where we did not have to leave keys.
Can not fault the Hotel. Check in was fast and easy, staff were incredibly friendly. Parking Garage is a big plus! The rooms were nice and great size, very clean too, also the views were amazing from the 3rd and 4th floor. Only thing missing was a safe. Location is fab, little Restaurants right around the corner and you can walk into the center. Gym is small but has everything you need. Our son even got a little info and colouring book of Groningen. We were actually dissapointed that we only stayed for one night.
The underground car parking is very good with a lift straight up to your room the bar is good as well as some local beers the staff are very friendly you can help yourself to tea and coffee all day which is good and the breakfast was nice.
Stayed here for 3 nights whilst watching MotoGP. Lovely hotel with very helpful and happy staff. The best western was really clean and the bed very comfortable. Free tea and coffee in the lobby and free fast WiFi in all areas. Will stay again if we come next year
We spoke with 3 receptionist and the 3 of them were friendly and helpful, very good service. Room was nice and compact, with a modern style, and it has a nice view of the city. Good location, very close to the city center and within walking distance from the train station (less than 15 min and a nice stroll). You can buy some local produce as the famous mustard at the reception. However, our room wasn't properly noise isolated. We were accommodate in a room connecting with another one, and unluckily our neighbors were quite noisy at 6:00 am and woke us up. Due to the connecting door, we could hear them speaking as if they were inside our room. There was also some noise coming from the heating furnace pipes. Ultimately, we weren't able to get a good night of sleep.
The hotel itself is quite clean and comfortable. But it had very few visible staff and felt like you had to go look for them as there was never anyone on reception. Some aspects of the hotel are a little tired and the location itself can be very noisy at night. Will try somewhere else when next in town.
Large, clean rooms. Nice place to have breakfast. Friendly staff. Bathroom with toilet, bath and seperate shower. Bike's to hire. The rooms themselves can use an update. Centre for education and students in the hotel.
We have stayed in this hotel every year for over 10 years its clean and good value with helpfull staff we hope the prices do not increase too much now it has become a Best Western. this does not appear to be the case
Great location a stones-throw from the Groningen city centre. Professional staff who was very helpful throughout. The rooms are a bit small; go for the higher floors to enjoy nice views from the city. I really lived the coffee machines in the lobby and Grand Cafe where you can get great coffee / tea free of charge 24 hours per day. There is also a gym which was basic but clean with the basic necessities. Really appreciated the CEO helping us out with the bags - leading by example!
I have stay in this hotel for three times now in previous period. I can say that this is really good ratio of price and service offered. Hotel location is very good, and I really like that I can see improvement of service trough period of time. Staff is very good and helpful. Rooms are quite good and comfortable. Heating is good (I was in winter days) every time. In rooms you have offered coffe or tea for yourselve it is very good.
Stayed one night in a hotel room at the 5th floor. It was freezing outdoor but unfortunately I did not feel warmer in the room. I turned on both the heater and the air conditioner, but they did not help much. The room was still cold. Later, I discovered that the room has a large single glass window, which is definitely not winter proof. I wanted to take a shower to warm myself up, but I found the warm water was not very warm either. Plus, the shower cabin had insufficient lighting, so it was as dark as outdoor. I won't recommend the hotel to anyone.
Super location just 10/15 minute flat walk from the station but also just 10 minute walk into the bars and squares . Overlooks the Canal very pretty at nite when the boats are lite up . Huge most comfy bed I've slept in . Large shower (could have done with more pressure ) big bath . Very clean throughout . Friendly helpful staff .
Hotel is situated in the Int'l School of Management. The hotel used to be exclusively for the students. Due to the popularity the hotel was opened to all travelers. Note: the hotel has no restaurant. You can book a dinnerdeal for nearby restaurants. Quick checkin/-out. Friendly reception staff. We booked ourself a DeLuxe room with twin beds. Nice sized room. Great view over city centre. A/C. Working desk with coffee/tea amenities. Mattress is to soft to our liking. Coffee and tea is also available free of charge all day in the Grand Cafe. Breakfast buffet was enough and of good quality. Parking in the streets surrounding the hotel is limited to 1 hour and costs €2.90 Parking in the undergroud hotel parking is €17.50 for 24 hr.
We arrived early but the friendly staff arranged our check-in and stored our luggage till the room was ready. When we checked in they parked the car for us. The room was a good size and the bed was super-comfortable. We had a good choice of tasty food at breakfast and the hotel was only a five minute walk from shops and restaurants. Highly recommended!
We stayed in an apartment across the hotel. They offered this because we were 3 adults and a child, and that was available. We enjoyed, quiet location, parking underground, not big, good if not too busy the hotel.... The staff was friendly, location was very good, close to restaurants or to the grocery store.
Comfortable hotel in the city centre. Large, clean room with great view. Staff was very helpfull. Great service. They even parked our car.Breakfast was fine too as was the wifi.A safe in the room would be a plus.
We arrived early and it wasn't no problem to check-in. Clean and neat rooms. Room service is on point. And a private car to take and pickup from the city...... Good Job guys! One of the best towels we ever had. And the rainshower ?? is amazing to! Two thumbs up for the staff and crew!!!
We had a good stay here after some confusion with the room booking due to the booking agency not the hotel rooms clean with a nice view everything works very good breakfast in a good location and underground safe parking for motorbikes Paul
Visited April 2018 Location: Pleasant walk around ten minutes from Groningen Central Station where we arrived after taking the train post landing at Schipol Airport (train journey took about 2.5 hours- we had a lot of suitcases with us so would advise purchasing first class tickets to ensure adequate leg room / baggage space). Close to centre and in a quiet location. Surroundings were very pleasant with a canal and quite a few restaurants nearby. We booked on a Hampshire Deal which included a voucher for a two course meal at a restaurant of our choice (you have about 6 restaurant choices)- we chose to go to Hemingways (About five minute walk away) where we were allocated a variety of tapas. Staff: Professional, friendly, they kindly booked the table at restaurant for us as part of our deal Food: We also booked breakfast here, good selection of hot items- bacon, eggs, sausages, tea/coffee, continetal breads / pastry. Room: Our room was equipped with a kettle which was great for making tea/coffee. Room was more spacious than expected with good lighting. We would recommend a stay here for anyone visiting Groningen.
I really liked the room - felt quite recent, with neutral decoration, a good size and a nice view. Also liked the kettle and instant coffee. The bathroom was also very nice but little was provided except for soap dispensers. This being said I had all the rest so I didn't miss anything. Price of the room was reasonable as well, unlike the price for breakfast (a traditional mid range buffet with nothing special) and for valet parking. With these added, I'm not sure that it's such a good value. The location is good (on the edge of the city centre, about 10 minutes walk from the main square and access by car is very good.
On arrival we found cold and unwelcoming staff who treated us like peasants. Wanted £15 for breakfast so we ate elsewhere and on checkout the male member of staff totally ignored us then ordered over to the next receptionist. Generally this hotel has the feel and grace of a prison camp and I strongly suggest you find an alternative hotel !
This is a centrally located hotel in Groningen within the canals of the inner city in short walking distance of various restaurants and pubs in the city centre. Pleasant and friendly staff and the twin comfort room (418) I stayed in, was large enough and clean. But the hotel is in some urgent need of a revamp and renovation. The television (decoder) wasn't working and neither was the climate control. Even when I put it on 30 degrees Celsius, it remained to cold in the room while it was freezing outside. A good shower and availability of several pillows from soft to hard, but the bed/mattress was to soft for my liking. Best Western is the new owner and will have to invest quite a lot in this property to get it up to date again.
