"Good hotel ... BUT"
newmanmw20, 15 Juillet 2018

PLEASE NOTE I have tried to make this review as objective as possible. The Best Western Plus Hôtel Elixir in Grasse is a very pleasant hotel. BUT I booked it in error! I accept this was entirely my own fault. I had enquired about the hotel's rates but then decided I would prefer to stay in Hyères rather than Grasse. When I received a request from Best Western to let them have my credit card details within 48 hours or they would cancel the reservation, I assumed incorrectly that the request had come from Hyères, because I had never confirmed I wished to proceed with the reservation in Grasse, but had made a definite reservation in Hyères. Again I acknowledge that this was my own fault. When I realised my error I asked Grasse to cancel my booking but they refused, stating that I had booked the non-changeable, non-refundable rate. I accept that, strictly, they were entitled to declne my request, but would have hoped, in the interest of good client relations, that they would have agreed. When declining my request they also referred to my 'mistake' in inverted commas, as though they believed I was trying to get away with some sort of deception, rather than having made a genuine error, which again did not impress me Fortunately, Hyères were far more reasonable and understanding and cancelled my reservation there with no charge, so at least I didn't pay around €1,000 twice, though I would have preferred to stay in Hyères. As for the stay itself, as stated above, this is a very good hotel set in pleasant surroundings. There is a small unheated swimming pool in an attractive Mediterranean garden, although the pool itself was not accessible to my partner, who has limited mobility. We had a pleasant, quiet, air-conditioned room which was suitable for my partner and myself, although the shower area in the bathroom was somewhat cramped. The room itself was clean, spacious and comfortable. We arrived later than hoped on our first night and opted to eat in our room. When the meal eventually arrived there was no cutlery and for some reason reception seemed reluctant to accept that we had not somehow failed to find it on our tray. After some time they eventually sent some cutlery up. We took dinner in the dining room on our last night and found the meal to be satisfactory, although the service was very slow. This was possibly because the staff were having to cater for a coach party in a side room. My partner is gluten intolerant and although they kindly provided gluten free rolls and bread, the staff did not seem aware of the dangers of cross-contamination and the need to keep gluten free items completely separate from from other food so some retraining in this area appears to required. We tried the bar menu once, but this basically consisted of soup, which was disappointing. In person, the staff were very pleasant and helpful, and there is a good size, free car park. But for the issues mentioned above, i would have awarded 4 stars instead of 3.

"Country villa feel in center of city"
Tanya H, 12 Juin 2018

I came to Grasse to make my pilgrimage as a perfume lover to the land of perfume making. I rented a car to more easily reach all my desired destinations in a short period of time during a rainy weekend. This hotel was great with its own parking lot and close to all the perfume houses of note (Fragonard, Molinard, and Galimard). My favorite part though was it's hillside location with a villa like view and smells of jasmine, and orange blossoms flowing through the window all night long. A slice of heaven! Friendly staff.

"Comfortable hotel"
Steve H, 21 Avril 2018

Was looking forward to staying here whilst motorcycling down to the French coast. Pleasant clean hotel but on arrival was informed the restaurant was closed. This was disappointing & I believe we should have been told when making the reservation..... Anyway breakfast was nice & the people were pleasant so not too bad.

"Great place with fantastic Staff"
diliniratnayeke, 20 Mars 2018

All the staff members were extremely friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. Stephane in the restaurant was absolutely wonderful and gave each of us individual attention, which was great! I would recommend your hotel very highly to everyone I know. Thank you for such a lovely stay. Dilini

"Great Staff"
Pat E, 04 Février 2018

Nice hotel in a very convenient location. We stayed on a Saturday night and surprisingly the restaurant was closed. The hotel is very comfortable, breakfast was very nice and the staff are ever so helpful and friendly.

"Small but convenient"
Dan K, 15 Janvier 2018

If you are just coming to Grasse for a day then this property will do well for you.The staff is warm and inviting, In season the pool would be nice, the wine pours at the bar were very good. In general it is like a lot of B/W hotels in Europe they are clean and have the facilities that you need but the rooms are tiny but the bed was comfortable. There really is not a great view from this hotel but except for the size of the room it would have been a four.

"Visiting Grasse"

Me and me father stayed there for 2 nights. The staff was amazing especially Maria the lady always sets the breakfast table. And there is the best pizza restaurant nearby. Not bad accommodations for the price A.B Surour

"in discrete location a child toy construct with the basics"
Bardangas, 29 Juillet 2017

Modern with amenities and a swimming pool. Rooms well equipped and comfortable and the receptionists well trained and informed. It is an hotel snugged in an alley-court creating its own artificial universe (in itself by itself, no civic interacting). Grasse is oddly or under equipped with hotels in its centre and this one can is street signed but it cab easily be missed. It was a relief and comfortable.

"This 4-Star (+) hotel exceeded our expectations"
Stan R, 26 Juin 2017

We stayed for three nights at this 4-Star hotel and the room, the service and their restaurant exceeded our expectations. After staying 6 nights at the so called 5-Star Jules Cesar in Arles, we were a little apprehensive about the hotel Star rating system in France. However, the Elixir in Grasse is a 4-Star (+) hotel and 38% of the cost of the so called 5-Star hotel in Arles. The standard rooms at the Elixir are normal North American Best Western size rooms; however, on request and at no extra charge the very friendly reception manager (Carmen) moved us to a significantly larger and more comfortable room that was set up for disabled guests.

"Plain but nice"
Allison L, 09 Mars 2017

My husband and I stayed one night at Hotel Elixir, and it was a pleasant stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The pool was quiet and lovely to sit by in the evening. The food options were limited when we were there, but we were looking to eat at an odd time after traveling all day. The rooms were plain but very clean and nice.

"Friendly welcome"
Casino2102, 10 Novembre 2016

A friendly welcome awaits that is replicated throughout with all staff. The rooms are of a reasonable size. Unfortunately the air con wasn't the greatest hence a mark down. Breakfast was a buffet that had plenty to choose from.

"Nice Hotel"
Snow_1080, 05 Novembre 2016

A very nice Hotel up on the hill in Grasse. The staff is nice and the rooms are clean. The hotel property is back for the main road a bit so it is pretty quite all things considered. There is a morning breakfast too!

"Basic.."
gwen c, 05 Octobre 2016

Basic hotel with basic services. The hotel rooms are rather clean and somewhat practical. My only problem is that for both times I've been, the rooms I get have this bad smell that lingers in the air.. not so nice. Other than that the breakfast has it's basic necessities.. And also difficult to get access to Wifi in some of the rooms.

"Good stay for few nights in Grasse"
FJ2205, 28 Septembre 2016

Welcoming personnel. Free parking. Non heated swimming pool, well maintained. Sufficient breakfast, but delay in undressing and re-dressing tables. Bar service on the terrasse is quite poor. Better order at the bar. Free Wifi, but speed can be improved. Rooms are very convenient, clean, good bed, nice bathroom with italian shower. Complimentary coffee/tea, which is much appreciated. Quite a bit noisy, walld and doors should better retain noise from neighbours and corridor. Table in the room not very convenient for laptop working: quite narrow when curtains closed.

"Comfort, convenient & pleasant"
picolina, 17 Septembre 2016

This hotel makes a good choice for visiting Grasse. If you are just passing by (wedding, in our case), this hotel is convenient for a couple of nights. You will need a car to reach Grasse's old town (within 10 minutes driving distance), overall the hotel is bright, comfortable with all the standards expected of a chain hotel. We did enjoy having dinner by the swimming pool, the food is good and service is up to par. We just wished breakfast was included in the price, we tried their breakfast and thought it was of poor value to have to pay an extra price. Staff was courteous & helpful. Considering the location and amenities, it was overall a pleasant stay.

"Average Hotel with average service"
Stefan T, 08 Septembre 2016

Very average Hotel, that has a nice pool. During the week there was iterally no restaurant open during the day. It was not even possible to order food or drinks to the pool. Even though the staff working there was quite charming, the service was miserable.

"Pleasant surprise"
Lisamarie14675, 10 Août 2016

Nice room, comfortable beds, clean bathroom. Delicious dinner and darling waitress. Pool was refreshing. Easy to find by car. Close to bus line. Friendly and helpful front desk ladies - all of them! Free parking

"Little star(s) "
h-xuan1989, 30 Juillet 2016

We stayed two nights for a friend's wedding in the region and we were told that it was the best deal for a short stay. I can't deny that the place is beautiful, with a terrace by the pool (where we had a drink the first night and breakfast the next morning..) but really, it's the only good thing I can think of. The staff was nice and polite but it doesn't quite make up for the fact that it's pricey, overall not that good value for money. Never seen this breakfast formula before ! You get a list of products to choose from and you can pick 5 of them... For 10€ !! One of my friend chose some viennoiserie and they were tiny.. the buffet is nice but pricey too. Also, not the best location if you're in for a longer time and want to go for a walk in town from the hotel. (Btw, it's a good 35min walk from the station..) next time, I'll make another choice, and do not really recommend... Definitely not my idea of a 4* !

"fine hotel- good location"
countconti, 27 Juin 2016

This hotel was what we expected; clean rooms, free parking and a fine restaurant. We made this our first stop after arriving in Nice. It was about 45 minutes by car so we had a leisurely drive. The hotel was a very shot distance from the center of town which offered restaurants and the ceramics stores. We ate and shopped. The restaurant at the hotel offered a fine dinner. Staff was very helpful.

"Lovely"
rachxhill, 21 Juin 2016

Very nice hotel. Room smartly decorated, clean & well maintained. Restaurant food was tasty. Staff very polite, friendly & helpful. Located 5mins taxi ride from train station and town centre. Bus stop to Cannes/Grasse centre right outside. Would stay again if in area.

"Friendly Staff and Nice Room"
Fenlander70, 20 Juin 2016

Perfectly nice hotel, quite basic. Friendly and helpful staff f. Dinner in the restaurant was good, and breakfast perfectly nice. Pool area looked nice, but didn't get chance to use it. But very expensive for a basic Best Western

"Good Place for a Stay"
Ann F, 10 Juin 2016

I visited the hotel in June 2016. Staff were extremely helpful when I had a problem and immediately responded to quickly solved it. My double room was large enough to move around the beds and the bathroom with shower a decent size. I really appreciated the extras, like Kleenex and a hot pot for coffee or hot chocolate. These are things not usually found in European hotels. The reception area, dining room, and my room were really clean and well maintained, and the air conditioning responded quickly. They even had ample off-street free parking and an elevator! I could not have been more pleased.

"Plain modern hotel a bit pricey"
steve z, 29 Mai 2016

Clean, friendly desk staff, but a bit plain. Had to change rooms becaus air conditioning did not work. Restruant closed Sunday afternoon as are most other things in Grasse.new room ac was fine.refrigerator in room a positive.

"Not worth of so high price!"
Nataša B, 04 Mai 2016

Hotel is ok, but the price are much too high! Rooms are clean but small in this size that I thought I am sleeping somewhere on some Boat(and was costing 170€ for night). Breakfast is not included in the room price, you have to pay for it separately, we did and I was sorry for it, ham was stinking, eggs where old, buffet was half empty, service jung and uneducated. At the end we finished with one night price around 200€. Much too high for this what you're getting for it!

"Ok if you have a car"
Prettyjen, 29 Avril 2016

Pros Swimming pool Nice breakfasts Cons Business type hotel - bit soulless Clueless receptionists on the local area Restaurant shut on Saturdays & limited menu when it is open Be aware this hotel is 25 minutes walk into Grasse- uphill in hot sun. Although were fit, it did become a bit off putting after 2 days. The hotel has nothing nearby except an empty pizza restaurant. Also a lot of Grasse appears shut during the evening during the week.

"The Third most Expensive but..........."
DevonJohn, 26 Octobre 2015

Out of the 125 hotels booked during our trip this was the 3rd most expensive but it really was worth the money. To start with, the reception staff had to cope with us at very short notice but booking in was efficient, courteous and, given the language barriers on both sides, extremely enjoyable. At all times, whoever was behind Reception, was most helpful with information and assistance. I also commend the waiting staff, it is amazing how far a smile goes in making for an enjoyable staff. The food in the restaurant was exceptional in both taste and presentation. The rooms are not out of this world but they are very clean and comfortable. The beds and pillows made sleeping both easy and refreshing. Location is a bit of a journey away from Grasse Centre and on the side of a hill, the entrance to the Hotel is just past a corner and you can easily sail past if you are not watching for it. Our stay here was excellent and this Hotel is highly recommended.

"Beware of this hotel!"
JohnBiggar, 16 Octobre 2015

This is a deeply disappointing hotel. While it no doubt fulfils the technical requirements for its four star rating, we found none of the qualities that should distinguish a four star hotel from one with a much lower rating. Arriving this (Friday) evening after a strenuous day's travel, my wife and I were looking forward to a good Provençal meal in the hotel restaurant, which its website says is open Monday to Saturday. After checking in, however, we were informed that the restaurant was closed but room service was available. Further enquiry produced the answer that "the chef was on holiday". Looking at the room service menu, it offered six options - three cold, and three which had clearly been prepared earlier and would be reheated. It seems incredible - and is totally unprofessional - that a four star hotel's kitchen is incapable of functioning in the absence of the chef. The manager needs to do something to rectify this, and at least warn would-be guests of the situation. We eventually had a good pizza in a restaurant nearby, but that is not what we had expected or wanted. Apart from that, we were surprised to find that the only toiletries consisted of a multi-purpose gel serving as soap, shower gel and shampoo. This was in a dispenser on the walls over the sink and in the shower - more reminiscent of a student hostel than a four star hotel. All in all, we felt this hotel fell far short of the standard expected, and was seriously overpriced, particularly when breakfast (which we will not be having!) is an extra €15 per person.

"Hotel on the hill"
Matti R. S, 01 Octobre 2015

This hotel is excellent for business or leisure. It is brand new and very well equipped. It is on the hotel near small village called Grasse. Without a car it is not very easily approached and I would like to recommend it to the people who want to just relax, being on the pool or do some small exercises in the gym. It has an excellent menu in restaurant with good wines. Especially, breakfasts are great with variety of objects and with quality. Hotel has fours stars and service is excellent.

"Above and beyond"
06cbrocb, 23 Septembre 2015

The hotel itself was pretty good - as the other reviews would suggest, but they went above and beyond for us with the customer service. We had only brought hand luggage with us, as we were only in France for the night, and we realised that at Heathrow we had bought a 250ml bottle of Jo Malone perfume! We spoke to the receptionist and asked if they would kindly post it for us - and the generously agreed. We then quickly received a follow up email with a tracking number and everything - really great service on their part.

"Isolated and badly managed"
MikeJL59, 23 Septembre 2015

The only reason I can see why you would want to stay here is that you have a meeting at the hotel and you need to stay overnight, during the week and not at weekends. Otherwise there are just too many reasons not to. Firstly one needs to be aware that this hotel is over 2 kms from the centre of town so should have all the catering facilities for their guests. They do but not every day. Clearly a management decision, but not a very bright one. It did not start great with reception being with a very nervous trainee. Next we were told that the restaurant that evening would be a barbeque outside...not what we wanted. We did get a table indoor with a non-barbeque menu but this was a very limited selection, but what we did get was very good. It gets worse when the following night there is no restaurant available at all with a suggestion that a local pizzeria should be adequate....we are not in France to eat Italian food and a pizzeria is not a restaurant is my view. Another questionable management decision. The room was small and badly appointed. There are no drawers for clothes and only one small wardrobe, part of which is occupied by the safe. There is a high top shelf but you would need to be over 7' tall to be able to see into it. Clearly they don't expect people to stay for long. Breakfast was a buffet affair but there was no muesli and a generally poor choice of cereals unless you like cornflakes....there were 2 choices for this! Next we had the fire alarm going off in the middle of the night. This sounded in the public areas but not in the room and if we had been awoken by other means we would not have heard it. The reason we were awoken was because of a thunder and lightning storm and initially thought we could hear a car alarm in the distance. There was no indication within the room that there was an emergency. Curiosity took us into the corridor and only then did we realise that there was a fire alarm. Having evacuated to the reception area we joined the huge throng of people wondering what was going on. There was no one to ask! No sign of any staff and nobody managing the situation. Some poor girls had gone out into the storm risking their lives with the lightning and were soaked and looked very miserable. The alarm just ceased. No explanation. No "all clear". No manager Nothing. No apology 6 hours later at check out. The explanation we got some days later was that the receptionist was away from the desk investigating the alarm. I wonder where the manager was? Is there a manager at this hotel at all and if so why are they not taking responsibility. I see very little evidence of competent management at this hotel. The whole thing needs a rethink.

"Excellent customer service"
Causette1, 15 Septembre 2015

I can't recommend the hotel highly enough. I had a great room, the food was good, both the lunch by the pool, and excellent choice at breakfast. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and very helpful. Very easy to reach by public transport.

"Very relaxing"
Jackiestilgoe, 10 Septembre 2015

Spend two weeks at this four star hotel. It was very relaxing and nice and quiet. Rooms were cleaned to a high standard everyday. Although for some reason our plastic cups for rinsing your mouth after brushing your teeth kept being taken and no new ones left which was a nuisance even though we did mention it at reception. Food was amazing but pricey as was the drinks however this is what is expected for this type of hotel. Pool was very cold lol although we manage to go in it. We were able to book the spa area as part of our booking which was lovely. Small gym. Grasses is a lovely old town and well worth a visit. Plenty of other nice towns to visit and eat in around the area too. We had some fantastic meals out. Make sure you visit one of the perfumeries. We were able to creat our own perfum. Was such fun Nd was able to take home too.

"Too expensive"
Andre V, 21 Août 2015

Definitely not a 4 star hotel. Rooms are very small, no ventilation in the bathroom, so there was still a lot of moist the next morning. Wifi only worked after 3 fruitless attempts to log on. Only 1 elevator, so had to wait quite a while. Only reason I stayed is that I arrived late in Grasse, without any reservation, so I was happy to find a hotel room at all. But now I know why there were vacancies

"Conveniently located near the Riviera"
AmirFDM, 18 Août 2015

My family and I were staying at the Elixir Grasse in a family room. The family room consists of two adjoining rooms. In one room was a shower, and a bath in the other room. Rooms are equipped with a coffee set, refrigerator, safe, Wi-Fi (slow) and air conditioning. The rooms are clean, neat and simply decorated. The reception staff, nice, welcoming and happy to help. You can choose between a continental breakfast or a full breakfast, both with additional fee. Breakfast is delicious but with a limited selection of some cheeses, sausages, eggs, yogurt, breads, cereals, jams, fresh fruit coffee and tea. One evening we dined at the hotel and dinner submitted to us was delicious. The hotel also has a swimming pool and a spa.

"too expensive"
ilprofpisa, 14 Août 2015

I did not understand the reason of the price of this hotel. We have been forced to stay here for one night but the price is too high for the services the hotel offers. Furthermore, the people working in the hotel were not able to supply any information about wifi and only pointed to a pc in a corner. However, the wifi was available and working. My suggestion is to stay here only if you have no alternatives.

"Great position "
MerylDubai, 12 Août 2015

We stayed in a third floor room for 4 nights. We expected the room to be a bit on the small side and it was. However very clean, comfortable and perfectly adequate for our needs. Again, bathroom met all our needs. Friendly English speaking staff. Great choice at breakfast, evening menu a little mixed but we found something to suit. Other restaurants nearby. Beautiful pool area and bar/terrace. Typically French. Would recommend this place if you're happy with a French hotel experience ( ie without all the frills!)

"Lovely staff, well presented hotel and a lovely city."
alleynian2014, 21 Juillet 2015

We spent a night here on the way back to the airport from the Alps. Everything was good. The staff deserve a special mention for being incredibly friendly as well as efficient. We would have loved to stay longer! Special thanks to the lady who arranged a taxi for us as we did not realise it is normal to book them about 24 hours in advance here. Hopefully by putting that in this review you will have less clueless English travellers trying to book one for ten minutes time! The room was very clean, well equiped and certainly not cramped. The close up mirror in bathroom was so good i was tempted to steal it. Next time we are in the area we would certainly book.

"Excellent overnight stay"
Jooney49, 31 Mars 2014

From the time we booked in until the time we left the experience was top class. The receptionist was polite and very helpful and the staff member at breakfast was equally friendly. The room was clean and comfortable, complete with a coffee machine. Altogether a great experience on a night when it would not stop raining outside.
