The hotel is full of charm and character. It is old. This also means noise. It is one thing to have traffic from outside, but if you are in room 215 that has the elevators along the room, you will have the clicking of the doors all night. See pictures. I don't mind a small room as a single, but the purpose of a hotel room is quiet. I was informed the web / booking site would have informed me about the noise from the elevator…. Well if the hotel management can show me that please.
Unfortunately I found the numerous positive reviews grossly misleading. The property is rundown, dirty, noisy and stinking. Wouldn't recommend. I was taken in due to association with BW. Thank God, it was one night only on return trip from Northern Europe.
Just by the train station and the Tivoli gardens, plus near a hop on hop off bus stop. unfortunately there was some building works going on across the road which was a bit noisy at times. The rooms were a little dated but clean and the bed was very comfortable. Good value for money and the bar in reception was a nice touch. Breakfast was good with a great selection.
The hotel is old and the rooms have no AC. Hotel is located directly across the street from train tracks, which run all night and can be quite loud. While it was a convenient pickup point for the excursion that we had booked, we will not stay here again.
The positive is the location, very close to the city center and the helpful polite staff. the negative is the proximity to train station and the noise from outside that make it impossible to sleep. There is no ac so you have to keep the windows open and noise from train, nightlife, cars etc is bad. Also, the hotel is historic which means a lot of things are dated and need refresh and upkeep. Bathrooms need a redesign, shower water spills onto the floor. Would not stay here again.
Great breakfast buffet, wonderful helpful staff. We lost pair of prescription sunglasses in Room 206. If located please contact [email protected]. Oliver Sophia and David were exceptioal assets to our Copenhagen experience.
Thank you very much for your wonderful review. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed our breakfast buffet and that our team helped make your Copenhagen experience a memorable one. We truly appreciate your kind words about Oliver, Sophia, and David. We will make sure your compliments are shared with them — they will be very happy to hear your feedback. Regarding the prescription sunglasses left in Room 206, we are sorry to hear about this. We will check with our team and our lost & found department, and we will do our best to assist if they are located. Thank you again for staying with us. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to Hotel Astoria in the future. Kind regards, Emi | Service Crew Hotel Astoria, BW Signature Collection
Overall, we were happy with our stay here. The hotel had a historic vibe to it. The room was surprisingly roomy and clean. The elevators were on the small side (room for 2 people with 1 suitcase each). The bathroom was serviceable with good pressure, though the shower wall should have been a few inches longer to prevent water from going everywhere. The staff was very friendly and helpful in the interactions we had with them. The noise level was very bad in the evenings when nearby nightlife and such was going on. You are right next to the train station, which is a HUGE PLUS for convenience, but the noise is slight drawback at certain points of the night as people are coming and going, particularly on weekend nights.
Dear Ryan, Thank you for giving us your feedback and choosing to stay at Hotel Astoria. We are happy to hear it was a good experience - and are very sorry about the innconvenience with the noise. We hope to see you again! Best Regards, Helene, Reception Hotel Astoria
Basic hotel. I should have done a better research as proximity to train-station it actually means in front of the train tracks. I asked for a quieter room and I was told they are all the same at reception as we are in the center. Actually if you book in this hotel, yes in the centre, I strongly suggest you ask for a room not facing the train tracks. Unfortunately the hotel is also fully booked it seems so no switch is possible. Low rating for Location due the noise and lack of peace due to train tracks
Dear Chri b, Thank you for your feedback and for staying at our hotel. We are sorry about the inconvenience with the noise from the tracks. As the hotel is a historic building built as accommodation for the train drivers, it has its downsides with the noise. However, we hope the historic charm of the hotel can make it worth it. Next time, you are also welcome to ask us for earplugs at the reception:) We hope to see you again at the hotel! Best Regards Helene Reception, Hotel Astoria
Conveniently situated right next to Central Station. The hotel looks a little tired, but was comfortable. It can do with a revamp in the public areas though, carpets on the stairs were scuffed and furniture appeared a little threadbare. The breakfast was sufficient, with a good variety. As the shower has no door, we had to dry the bathroom floor after every shower. Not good value for money in my opinion.
This is a budget hotel that is very centrally located only a few meters from the station and you need to judge it on these terms. Once you do it is actually a really nice place to stay. It feels like it is from the 1930s because it probably is and it has a lot of charm as a result. The rooms were clean and the breakfast very good. The only reason I don't give it score of five is that it is a bit noisy. The trains rumble next to it and the revellers were revelling on both Friday and Saturday. But then you are staying in a hotel next to the station so what do you expect? So if you sleep lightly, spend a lot more and sleep better. If you want to be handy for the station or Tivoli and can tolerate a bit of noise, this is the place for you!
Stayed one night. Very well located just 100 yards from main entrance to central station. I asked for a quiet room and was given room at opposite end to the station. Receptionist told me that this room on second floor would be fine. This is an old hotel and extremely noisy. Terrible racket on street at 4.30am when truck doing some deliveries for 30 mins. Then at 5am the trains started running again, every couple of minutes it felt like the train was going through the room next door Between noise from cars, trains and lorry deliveries, you will be doing well to get 2-3 hours sleep. I certainly will not be coming back here and would not recommend it.
Very central location right by the train station. Reasonable price, but that comes with a price... Cleaning of the room was poorly made, a piece of an apple was left on the table next to the bed. Cleqrly visible mould traces on the silicone sealing in the shower. Warm room with comfortable bed, but it was icecold in the breakfast/dinner and lounge area. Might be wise to visit this hotel preferably during summertime.
Old railway conductors housing converted into a hotel. Tiny (but charming) rooms, good beds, and friendly service. Be warned, you will hear and feel the trains going by, so not for light sleepers. Really great breakfast.
Thank you for your feedback. We're delighted that you appreciated the charm of our historic building, comfortable beds, friendly service, and our breakfast. Your note about the train noise is helpful for future guests, as staying so close to the station can be noticeable. We're glad you enjoyed your stay overall and hope to welcome you back to Copenhagen in the future. Best regards, Emilie | Service Crew Hotel Astoria.
Lovely Decor and some perfect touches. Reception Staff are amazing, friendly and helpful. Main reception doubles as a cosy bar with a happy hour between 4 and 5. Rooms were very comfortable and clean. Overall a very enjoyable stay, 4/5 as some of the decor needs updating. Will definitely stay again.
Dear Guest Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We appreciate your time and feedback, it keeps us motivated and helps us understanding what makes a good stay! We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed staying with us and hope that we can get the opportunity to welcome you another time. Best regards, Oliver, Hotel Manager
Really friendly staff, easy check-in a d out. Good breakfast. Easy to go to/from airport by train. Dirty bathroom, bed lights didn't work. Historic building and my room looked like the day the hotel was build. Really BAD sound insulation, when train was passing the whole building was shaking. You can hear all cars and people passing by. Expensive.
Dear kimmok868, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are glad you appreciated our friendly staff, smooth check-in and check-out, breakfast, and convenient location near the train to the airport. We are, however, very sorry for the issues you experienced with the bathroom, bed lights, and noise. As a listed historic building, some features reflect its original construction, including sound insulation, and we understand this can be inconvenient. Your comments are important to us and will help us improve where possible. We hope you might consider giving us another chance in the future. Best regards, Alfred | Service Crew Hotel Astoria
This was literally the worst hotel experience in last 10 years, during which I've spent 800 nights in over 100 hotels. After this experience for sure I won't stay at BW hotels anymore, as it seems that when your hotel doesn't meet any standards, BW is the only chain that will welcome it. The receptionists are mostly not there, you have to wait; when checking in we agreed that payment will be taken at checkout, but someone charged it to my room a day before, what caused me FX losses; room was dirty with sand on carpet and spider webs; housekeeping thrown away our ear plugs that were next to bed, as well as my wife's hair rubber - nothing what is not in the dust bin should be removed from the room; dirty tea cups and water glasses were neither cleaned, nor replaced; BW status was not recognized (No recognition. I had to ask, if we got any upgrade for Diamond and only then the receptionist checked it. Same was when I've asked for later checkout - they told it's subject to charge and only when I mentioned Diamond status they told it's free), When it comes to breakfast, you arrive to the room, full of tables, and not many people, but there is no place to sit, as there are dirty dishes on 10 tables, even though guest have left. Another day the guy is running with a trolley on which he has a big bucket after yogurt and when collecting plates, he removes leftovers to this bucket - so gross. On top, no water glasses, dirty plates, not checked after dishwasher, missing products and awful powder scrambled eggs.
Hi Michal Thank you for taking the time to let us know your thoughts. - First of all, I am very sorry to hear about your experience. And I would like to address the things that you are mentioning. Regarding the reception staff: * Payment: I am sorry to hear that you were wrongfully charged and the inconvenience it caused. I have spoken to my team about this to ensure such miscommunications will not happen again. * Absence - I am sorry if there were waiting times due to it being busy or if the receptionist had a task to fullfull elsewhere with poor timing of you being there. We will take your feedback to see how we can improve for the future. * No recognition - We have currently just hired new people as well as having interns who just got here. I am sorry if your status was not immediately recognized I will make sure to remind all new staff of the importance! Regarding breakfast, I am sorry if you came in the eye of the storm. We will use your feedback to see how we can further improve ourselves. Regarding the room. This should never occur and I am sorry about that. You are welcome to reach out to me on [email protected] so we can see what we can do about this. Once again, I am sorry to hear that your stay did not live up to expectations, nor or standards. We take this very seriously and will take action on the feedback you have given. I hope that you will give us another chance, for us to show you a remarkably different experience as this is far from the usual standards we pride ourselves in. Best regards, Oliver, Hotel Manager Hotel Astoria.
This is an absolutely delightful hotel with excellent front of house staff who are welcoming, friendly, kind and will do everything to ensure a pleasant stay. I had not researched the hotel before my arrival. I found its history fascinating and it felt like a privilege to stay there. Being next to Copenhagen's main railway station does make it a noisy location, but the earplugs supplied ensured a good night's sleep despite that. If I ever return to Copenhagen I wouldn't hesitate to stay there. I would also recommend it to anyone interested in history or anything to do with railways. I visited Copenhagen to take part in the annual half marathon. The hotel is well situated for this - in 2025 it was at the halfway point of the course, so would have been perfect for anyone bringing friends and/or family who want to watch as it was easy and quick to get to and from the half marathon as well as other places of interest.
Dear Nick Thank you for completing the survey regarding your recent stay at our property. Your business is very important to us and we value your feedback. By telling us what you liked about your stay and how we can improve, you are helping us deliver a superior experience for you and other guests in the future. We hope you will come back and see us again soon. We're delighted you enjoyed the hotel's history, our welcoming staff, and the convenient location—especially for the half marathon! It's great to hear the earplugs helped with city noise. We truly appreciate your kind words and hope to welcome you back whenever you return to Copenhagen. Thank you again for taking the time to complete the survey. We appreciate your loyalty to our brand. Sincerely, Alfred | Service Crew Hotel Astoria, BW Signature Collection
I really enjoyed my stay at this historic hotel, that has been renovated and was originally built in 1935 to host train conductors. It's right next to the central rail station with metro, making it a perfect spot for easily getting around. I bought a 72 hour city pass for unlimited rail and metro upon arrival at the airport and took the train back and forth to the central station and M3/M4 metro trains to see the tourist sites. It's a smaller, cozy hotel of 30-40 rooms with a quaint lobby, 24/7 coffee, and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. I had a Superior King room with balcony (top 3rd floor) and enjoyed sitting outside and people watching. They had one of the best breakfast buffets I've enjoyed in a long time! They have pretty much anything you could imagine, with daily changing hot food items, fresh bread and pastries, fresh fruit, deli meats and cheeses, juices, coffee, & various milk options, plus yogurt, granola and other add-ons.
Disappointing Stay – Not What Was Promised I stayed at this hotel for three nights, and unfortunately, it was a letdown. The room was very basic — no kettle, no tea/coffee, no fridge, and barely any amenities. I get that Copenhagen isn't always hot, but it's summer now, and the lack of air conditioning made the room uncomfortably warm. We had to leave the window open, but then the street noise filled up the room. The room itself felt tired and worn out. The walls were dirty and marked, there was mould in the shower, and no hooks to hang clothes or towels. The hotel looks nothing like the photos online. I honestly felt catfished when I saw the reality. On the positive side, the receptionist was friendly, and the location is good. Breakfast was decent, but that's about it. Overall, not worth the price AT ALL — I wouldn't stay here again.
Bit of a mixed review, starting on a positive it's situated next to the central station and tivoli world ,so if you are arriving by train it's great, it's also within walking distance of most of the places we visited. The public spaces are tastefully designed and clean and all the staff we encountered were excellent. Breakfast was good and well organised with a good selection to choose from. Unfortunately our room was poor, small and in need of a refurbishment, it was clean but no kettle, no fridge and the tv did not work. I know Copenhagen is expensive but for what we paid it was not vale for money. I probably wouldn't stay here again unless in a better room.
A really wonderful art deco style hotel located next to Copenhagen Central Station. Full of character and history, comfortable beds, and a great breakfast buffet is included in the room price. The best part of the hotel, however, is the staff; each and every one has been excellent, friendly, informative, and fun. A great find!
We booked a King bed at the Hotel Astoria in Copenhagen. We got a Queen bed. The staff stated that it was a "European King" bed. Regardless, when I book a King bed it is what I expect. They did not meet expectations.
We booked a large spacious family room for my disabled daughter, elderly mother and me. They put us in a small room with a bed in one part then through a small door were bunk beds. When I complained I was told, very rudely, that it was the same room as a I booked and although completely different to the picture, no apology or refund. The room we had (305 I think) is so poor that there isn't even an image of it on the internet. There were no amenities except a kettle (no coffee etc) no phone to reception and white marks all over all walls. I think they had sold our room to a higher paying customer and double booked. Disgusting hotel with a disgusting manager.
The location is perfect right next to the train station and the area is safe. The reception and the breakfast area is charming and the art deco style which it's build in is still there. The breakfast buffet was good as well. The reception staff was very helpful and nice. We had a twin room which was very basic. The two beds were very narrow and the lamp above the bed was placed so it nearly hit your head when you sat up. There was a fan which was nice as the temperature was high and there is no AC. The tiny bathroom have a quite spacious shower. However there were spots of black fungus on in the corners of the shower, and on the Wales next to the basin there was spots from soap splashes all the way down. Not very attractive.
Do not book this hotel! It is just outside the train station with drunks and homeless sleeping at front door. Super noisy 24/7 they issue ear plugs. Old worn hotel. Dangerous dirty graffiti neighborhood.
Good: Proximity to station, especially given my late evening arrival. Staff friendly. So-so: I didn't like the self-service check in, as the reception area was quite dark and I couldn't see what I was supposed to be doing! Chap on the desk came and helped. Had a single room, and it was - bleak. Clean, but soulless, even though I'm sure they're sticking to the 1930s theme. Disliked: Having just one little pillow. Even single guests need two! ghastly shower curtain. I'm gluten free, but not coeliac. At breakfast I did see a basket of gluten-free crispbreads (if there were any other GF bread products I didn't see them). Trouble was, they were just open in the basket right next to baskets of ordinary bread products. So if you're Coeliac, you'd be very wary about the risk of cross-contamination. And yes, I have mentioned this in the hotel survey. Copenhagen isn't cheap, and even though this was one of the cheaper hotels, it was still pricey. Would I stay here again? Probably not.
Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. We're pleased to hear you found our location convenient and our staff friendly during your late arrival. We apologise for the issues you experienced with the self-service check-in and will work on improving the lighting and instructions in the reception area. We appreciate your honest comments about the room and understand that the 1930s style may not appeal to everyone. Regarding pillows, please know that extra pillows are always available upon request at the reception. Your feedback about the gluten-free breakfast items and cross-contamination concerns is important to us. We will review how these are presented to ensure greater safety for all guests. Thank you again for your insights, and we wish you the best for your future travels.
Looking at the other pictures maybe we got the worst room - but it was basic at best. Didn't feel very clean and was very small. The lobby, bar, restaurant were all very nice and stops this getting a worse rating (not that we used them) - but I would not stay here again for anything other than the location which is right in the center of the city with the meat packers and the center both not far. Staff were all very helpful and polite too.
Thank you for your feedback. We're pleased you found our location convenient and our staff helpful and polite. We apologize that your room did not meet your expectations regarding size and cleanliness. We take your comments seriously and will use them to improve our standards. We appreciate your recognition of our lobby, bar, and restaurant and hope you might give us another chance in the future. Best regards, Emilie Hotel Astoria
Hotel Astoria is next door to the main train station in Copenhagen. The hotel is very central, to all main features in Copenhagen. The area felt safe. Hotel has good wifi. The receptionists were always very helpful. The hotel has a reception area where one can chat, have free coffee/tea/water. The rooms are only cleaned if one asks for cleaning. Also the towels are only changed, if one changes them at the reception. Breakfast was plentiful and varied. Next time in Copenhagen, I would look around for an another hotel, even though i doubt whether there is another hotel, so central, and at the same price budget.
Thank you for your detailed review. We're glad you appreciated our central location, safe surroundings, helpful reception team, and the comfort of our lounge area with complimentary coffee, tea, and water. It's also nice to hear that you enjoyed the variety at breakfast. Our cleaning and towel change policy supports our sustainability goals, but we understand this may not suit everyone's preferences. We appreciate your honesty and hope you'll consider staying with us again, should convenience and location be your top priorities.
A 3 night stay to coincide with the Copenhagen FC semifinal match. Friendly Staff members and free tea/coffee and a pastry on offer in Reception. Brilliant location so close to Central Station saved loads of time. We had 2 x Single rooms with a Queen sized bed, clean, adequate space, nothing glamorous but reflecting the hotel's age and history. Breakfasts were good - room gets full and spaces can be tight to find. Overall, as a place to lay your head, venture out from for the day to walk easily to shops or tourist sites like Tivoli or use the nearby excellent train/metro system, the hotel can be recommended. We would stay there again.
Location perfect Travelling on the train from Oslo and returning to the Airport was a breeze with a suitcase Staff very friendly and helpful Enjoyed all the vintage touches throughout the hotel Even enjoyed the sound of the trains Close to Tivoli
Central located, nice historical hotel. I received Room 104 on the first floor above train line - noisy room, floor/walls vibrated. Heater/radiator was broken. Room wasn't equipped by blackout curtains. Multiple times I contacted front desk to change room but Management ignored me and my massages.
Nicely decorated hotel with some history behind it! We booked the hotel with continental breakfast included - I recommend opting for this as Copenhagen is generally expensive to eat out and travel. This is an ideal place to stay where you are commutable distance to explore Copenhagen and its not too noisy.
