"Convenient, clean, friendly and helpful place!"
Priya J, 15 Décembre 2023

Very nice staff! So helpful and accommodating Hotel is very clean and well run. Room was very comfortable. We had a car that the hotel staff would park for us and pull it out whenever we wanted. Super fast too. It was very convenient for making day trips from Catania. I would recommend this hotel.

"Generally very good, a few niggles"
NY_US_Lizzy, 27 Octobre 2023

Business style hotel in a nice location on a side street away from the main shopping street but within around 10mins easy walking distance. Coop supermarket within 5mins walk. Comfortable bedrooms, although not the largest in size. Some rooms have balconies. My room had a bathtub with a shower over, plus bidet. Bedroom windows have electric blinds but they are quite noisy so can sometimes hear when next door rooms are moving theirs. Vivid blue and yellow colour scheme in the bathroom can be a bit harsh when you're still waking up. Reasonable choice of food at breakfast- breads, pastries, cakes, yogurts, lots of fresh juices, some fresh and tinned fruit etc. Not many hot options but that's expected for Italy. Not many tables in the area where the food & drink are set for breakfast although there are other tables available in a second area beyond. Snacks are available during the day from just behind reception should you want them. Two lifts but both small. One was being worked on as our group were trying to get their luggage down to check out and other guests still going to/from breakfast, which meant a bit of a wait for that single active lift. Overall, despite a few niggles I had a great stay & would go back if I return to Catania.

"Super Hotel"
L3276TAjoannab, 11 Septembre 2023

Very clean Hotel, room was done on a daily basis plus towels where changed daily too. I loved the kettle with cups and free coffee sachets. All that needs adding is a few pods of milk to make a cuppa tea.Super comfortable beds and breakfast a lot to chose from. Shall stay here again.

"Kudos to Stefania"
Ra B, 12 Août 2023

Not quite in Catania's center, yet a very nice 15-minute stroll to Piazza del Duomo. Clean and functional room, valet parking service available, nice breakfast yet the dining room a bit too tiny. But first and foremost - all kudos go to Stefania, for her friendly and professional service as well as a charming smile.

"In the hood"
LivDaley, 10 Juin 2023

It was my second time in Catania and while I like it there, it's kind of ghetto. For example, the buildings along the streets are strewn with graffiti. The area surrounding the Best Western Mediterraneo is no exception. Set up on a hill, it's 15e cab ride from the train station and 10e from Rue Etna. I walked into town in the morning. But would not do so at night. The price was right however as I wanted an inexpensive hotel centrally located with a gym (because my hotel in Taormina is expensive). The gym was adequately equipped and there was a kettle and fridge in the room. The room was clean and fresh. Breakfast was not great for a European hotel: they ran out of eggs and bacon by 9:30 each morning. Although they did make special coffees on request. It was a bit noisy from street traffic.

"Sicily trip"
yeofir, 13 Janvier 2023

Although this was a off season trip staff were very helpful and efficient. They helped organize our sight seeing trips and transport. Room was cleaned to exceptional standards. Location was close to great restaurants and shopping.

"Relaxing, budget hotel"
Quest63072940301, 08 Janvier 2023

I stayed here for 6 weeks whilst working in Catania. It's about a 20min /€25 taxi ride from the airport and a comfortable 15-20 min walk to the city centre or a 3 minute walk to a couple of nearby restaurants. The rooms are comfortable (though I would question the odd colour scheme) and clean with a balcony, though you're unlikely to use it - no view and noisy, as the hotel is located on a mostly residential street, with an annoying barking dog in a nearby flat. (see room preference) The window shutters were very effective in blocking out all light. The air conditioner is effective, there's coffee making facility. Aside from one of the four rooms I occupied during my stay, the WiFi signal was very good. There's power points by the bedside and ample storage space. There's also a Sky TV service available in English. Breakfast was acceptable even though the room itself was small and not particularly welcoming with no natural light and can get hectic. Whenever possible I found it better to go later, once the hordes of tourists had departed for the day. The coffee is ok but better to order one from the machine. I recommend trying the granita. The hotel has a good recycling policy, with a recyclables collection point on each corridor for guests. The room was cleaned daily however the coffee/tea wasn't always replaced. I was grateful for the complimentary bottle of water and the fridge where I could store my own items. All staff were helpful and friendly especially the three main reception staff who all spoke excellent English and made my long stay that bit more comfortable.

"Couldn't be more helpful!"
gf1349, 01 Août 2022

My wife, 17-year-old son and I stayed three nights recently at this hotel. Because of airline delays we arrived in the middle of the night and without luggage. The front desk personnel couldn't have been any kinder and attempted to accommodate us at every turn. Everyone at the hotel assisted us in trying to locate our luggage and get it returned to us. The hotel is in a good location in a residential area. It is about a ten-minute walk to the center of the city, and there are numerous restaurants within a couple of blocks that are quite good. The hotel will point you in the direction of these delicious places, so feel free to follow their lead. Their breakfast is quite good with plentiful options including hot and cold items and custom-made beverages. Overall, the experience was quite pleasant.

"Top service!"
Viktor B, 13 Juin 2022

I had a porly timed exam during my visit to Catania and had to find a place to participate the online exam. Asked in the reception if I could use the lounge area, it was no problem and the service was extrodinary. They came out with coffe and croissant without even ordering to make my test go smooth. I got the wi-fi before i sat down without even asking. So thankful for the service! 5/5 service!

"Great place to stay"
salesvendor, 29 Août 2021

I have been staying here now numerous times and have never been disappointed. The personnel is always extremly friendly and we always found the rooms clean and comfortable. The breakfast is great, especially as the coffee is not coming out of an automatic coffee machine but rather from a typical italian barista coffee machine. I will go back there for sure!

"Good location, best staff, incredible breakfast"
sd_3939, 16 Août 2021

After spending multiple nights in this hotel, I can only say how thankful I am to this staff. They are so helpful, have great local insight tips for what to see in Catania. The hotel rooms have working AC's, great size with balcony. One can arrive easily from the airport and walk to everything in town. From the 6 different hotels I visited in Sicily, this hotel also has the best breakfast and that during one of the busiest times during the year. Highly recommend!

"Total Sham !"
chichien, 17 Avril 2020

I am victimized by Best Western who give their name brand to this international branch and then claim no responsibility to help out the customer to protect its right. We had upfront paid for this hotel - Best Western Mediterraneo Catania and short after COVID outbreak hit Italy and we wanted a refund. They initially said they would pay the refund although it was a non-refundable rate then they took it too slow until a time came they showed Italian legislature as an excuse to refuse refunding but instead provided a voucher although I emphasized so many times that we can't make any plans to visit Italy for touristic purposes for next 12 months any more. This is basically confiscation of our 504 Euro money during a economically sensitive time where everybody is affected. Best Western US office is absolutely saying there is nothing they can do, even a simple request such as at least help modify the voucher as redeemable in US, but as simple as it is I am brushed off. Why do they give their trade name to that hotel if that hotel will not follow Fair Trading Act ? The only reason we chose that hotel is that there was Best Western name there. Total disappointment, I am still looking for ways to get back what I own.

"My experience"
15amilaa, 12 Janvier 2020

Very clean rooms and polite staff but there is no privacy. Walls are super thin and it is noisy. Breakfasts are ok. Only staff members at reception know english others speak only italian. Be careful with traffic. In my experience drivers are crazy. If you want to take a taxi from the centre (via Etnea) to the hotel you'll have to pay 15€.

"Ok hotel"
Robert E, 10 Novembre 2019

Having read reviews carefully we booked BW Mediterraneo for 4 nights as our base for visits around Catania. I agree the staff were excellent The breakfast was nothing special which surprised me - coffee awful, though they will gladly bring from a machine but still poor - cereals terrible though fruit is good, pastries ok if you lucky to get the good stuff / hot water for tea just a bit better than warm - but maybe we were just unlucky. Room comfortable / clean with plenty hot water and good towels. Pretty noisy but we are in a city. Internet (for Sky tv) most inconsistent, dropping out regularly. Initially thought location not great but decided it is actually quite good if you happy to walk 10 minutes (. Which we were) though the Catania streets are not conducive for strolling about after dark / though we didn't encounter any problems. We found this a very busy city (10th largest in Italy) and would choose some where else to tour out of in the future.

"Great stay"
Gwyneth G, 27 Octobre 2019

Great hotel to stay in Catania. The rooms have basic furniture but it was more than comfortable and clean for our family. The breakfast was delicious - you can also ask for a cappuccino/latte macchiato and they will make one from the bar for free!

"Convenient and Comfortable Hotel"
smorrisve0fc, 23 Octobre 2019

As we were planning a trip to Mount Etna, we needed a hotel in Catania the night before. The Best Western Hotel Mediterraneo was a very good choice. The room was well appointed with a lovely comfortable bed. They had Sky TV with a great selection of English channels. Even though we had to leave quite early, breakfast hours started at 7 am so we had lots of time to avail ourselves of the delicious hot and cold buffet. For no extra charge, we were able to leave our car in their secure garage for the entire day which was very convenient. We were delighted how this hotel suited all our needs.

"Excellent choice"
Donna M, 15 Octobre 2019

The location was great for a grocery store, places to eat and shop, and get to the centre square, We found it reasonably quiet and a decent size room. Breakfast for 4 euro was very good. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful.

"Smashing breakfast"
Alison C, 11 Octobre 2019

Comfortable hotel in an interesting neighbourhood, just a short walk into the centre of town. Extremely impressive breakfast with an extensive selection of fresh bakery goods. The pistachio croissants are highly recommended.

"Excellent Choice!"
923karenld, 11 Octobre 2019

Surprised to find that booking directly through Best Western's central reservations was cheaper (95 euros) than any deal offered through the booking services that work with Trip Advisor (140 euros range). Very nice hotel. Well maintained. Clean. Lots of choices for the breakfast that's included in the price of the room. Helpful staff. Location a relatively easy walk to key tourist sites and main shopping street. Only drawback is that the hotel is a mix of smoking and non-smoking rooms.

"Good and well kept hotel. Very central and just round the corner from some great Catania eateries."
Jason P, 29 Septembre 2019

The staff made it very easy to make the reservation. They had my details from a previous visit so it was super simple. The hotel has some private parking just across the road which is very convenient if you're travelling with a car. The room was a very generous size very clean and comfortable. We even had a small terrace. Breakfast was plentiful had us well set up for another day going around the city. Just a block or two away there is a collection of restaurants that serve delicious food and are very reasonably priced.

Very clean hotel with friendly and helpful staff who speak English as well as Italian. Spacious rooms and comfortable beds. Bathrooms have beautiful bright blue tiles. There's a hairdryer in the bathroom, towels are provided. Breakfast was from 7am till 10am and it was delicious. Free WiFi is available on all floors. A kettle is provided in every room. Some drinks and food packets are available in the mini fridge in each room, which aren't free but need to be paid if any is taken. Some rooms have a balcony, but ours didn't. We didn't have any problems and neither did our friends who were also staying at this hotel. The hotel is found on a very quite street about 10-15mins away from Via Etnea. Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much!

"Good value in quiet area"
benz37, 17 Août 2019

I stayed here for a couple of nights, and was very pleased. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the rooms are comfortable and well equipped with all the usual amenities. The breakfast buffet, which is included in all bookings, is quite impressive with fresh baked pastries and plenty of standard items. The hotel is located on a quiet street, and is about a 10 minute walk to the pedestrian area, and a 20 minute walk to the metro station.

"Good hotel in perfect location"
DickZe, 05 Juin 2019

Best Western is always good for a certain standard of quality. No different here in Catania. A nice room with everything you need, including good wifi and a very nice breakfast. The location is in walking distance from the old center and you can see everthing on foot in a reasonable time. Thre are limited parking places, so if you are unlucky you need to go to a parking elsewhere, about 7 mins waling where you can park for 16 euros per night.

"Great staff"
kinnie0001, 31 Mai 2019

From before I arrived at the hotel, when I requested a quiet room, the staff were great. They are super helpful and very pleasant. I had a big room which was quiet, had a balcony where I sat in the evening, and not facing the busy side. Breakfast was fine. Overall an excellent experience

"Very Accommodating"
simimoh, 30 Mai 2019

This hotel is great for group stays and business travelers. The rooms seem like they aren't brand new but aren't old looking or feeling either. My room was huge and I was staying with a friend, so we had two twin beds in the center. Sky network was available on an LG TV, the room also came with a large and comfortable couch, a desk, 3 desk chairs, a generous balcony, full size mirror, kettle with free cups/sugar/tea/coffee/creamer, mini fridge, safe, suitcase bench, a closet and a very decent bathroom with a great Mediterranean tile finish. You honestly really get your moneys worth staying here. Lifts are small but we stayed for 2 weeks and never broke once, stairs are convenient, lobby has good workspace, bar, front desk, free charging a free book shelf and internet access as well as concierge amenities. I never saw the front desk left unattended and the GM always came in to check on my group and I and make sure that we were situated well, always asking us what we needed and if we would like more food and if we were okay. They let all 20 something of us leave huge suitcases here for a couple of days without an issue. Whole hotel is very clean and tidy, staff were always friendly. There is a fitness room that requires key card access on the first floor. Blinds are automated and decoration isn't boring, which I appreciated for the long stay. Everything is generally at a decent noise level, although you are located on a busy street near a hospital. Food here was okay, the breakfast had some great varieties and Sicilian favorites. Good spread of meats, cheeses, fruits, fresh bread and juices. They tried making us eggs and American bacon as well which was lovely of them. Check in and out was very easy and efficient. The hotel is located 10 minutes from the main city center walking. There's also a grocery around 3/4 blocks away. There's a restaurant called 'Big Pizza' about a 30 second walk away that has awesome wood fire oven pizza owned by a local Italian family. Just be aware of 'riposo' where Italians rest and close shop for major hours in the afternoon. The walk back to the hotel is a bit taxing since it's all uphill but it's nothing too bad. Worst comes to worse it's a short taxi ride away from anywhere really in the city and public transport systems (bus and metro) are good in Catania.

"Best Western Hotel Mediteraneo"
guldestebasak, 29 Mai 2019

The hotel is located a bit far from the center, it takes 20 minutes to walk to walk to Piazza Stecissoro where you can take the metro to the Central Train Station which is one station away.It is also close to Via Etnea, the main shopping street. I stayed in a single room which was spacious with a king size bed, a working desk, a long dressing mirror, 2 side lamps,2 chairs, 2 side lamps, one lamp is over the working desk,a baggage rack, an air conditioner,a landline phone, 7 electric sockets( one in the bathroom, 2 next to the bed, 2 sockets work constantly without the door key,one socket under the working desk), a wardrobe with drawers and hangers, a safety box, an extra quilt and an extra blanket in it, a minibar full of beverages and snacks, tea and coffee bags, kettle. The room also has a balcony overlooking the back of the hotel and the buildings. The lightning in the room is perfect, the ceiling lamp lightens all the room, the lamps are adjacent to the wall. The bathroom has body, hair and shampoo dispenser, a bathtub, toiletries, a bidet, a hairdryer. There is a sheer curtain and a roll up blind which operated by a button over the bed.The LCD TV has numerous Italian channels, along with English channels (CNN, DW English) The rooms are cleaned daily and the towels are changed everyday. The hotel has one elevator which is big enough for 2 people. There is a guest computer and a bar in the lobby. The receptionists are helpful and kind towards the guests. The breakfast costs 3 euros and it consists of cereals, coffee, cappucchino, espresso, fresh orange juice, tea bags, fresh fruit, pastries, bread and cheese types. It is served between 7-10 o'clock. The hotel is close to the bus station where the buses to the train station take off. There is a market (Simply) nearby the hotel on Via Androne, which is open between 8-10 o'clock (on Sundays it is open from 08.00 to 13.00). There are also restaurants and small markets on side streets. In short I can recommend this hotel for its facilities, its quiet location and its reasonably priced breakfast.

"Modern, clean and friendly hotel."
DresdenTrip151, 01 Mai 2019

Booked into the BW Mediterraneo for 4 nights B&B. Very friendly and helpful English speaking staff. Rooms clean and modern. Hotel within easy walking distance of all central sites. Large Supermarket 150m away from hotel. Breakfast was good quality. Sky Sports channel on TV and free WiFi. Quiet area of city.

"Comfortable stay"
Zabka, 17 Avril 2019

Staff were very welcoming and our room on the 5th floor was comfortable. The bed was great - I am normally light sleeper in a new bed but I slept like a log the whole night. The location is a bit outside the main attractions and the old town but that makes it quiet and therefore perfect for us. There is a kettle in the room. Towels were soft and shower strong. We would definitely stay here again!

"Almost like a B & B"
370deb, 13 Avril 2019

The staff is very helpful and most speak fluent English. The breakfasts are great. The beds are comfortable. Everything is immaculate. Big fluffy towels. While the hours of restaurants in Catania seem unpredictable, you can always get a great salad or a sandwich or other "snack" at the bar for reasonable prices up to 11pm. After 5 days of late night and other snacking (with wine) are bill was only 118 euros. The concierge helped with transportation to a 2 hour tour in Taormina which was just the right amount of time to be away from Catania which has so much to offer in Roman ruins and museums. The desk was always helpful with cabs and information..

"Hotel with flair and excellence!"
maxx1262, 19 Mars 2019

Hotel is centrally situated, however what made it special were the staff , they are very professional, friendly and ready to give you a helping hand! from the cleaning lady up to the front office desk managers! breakfast is something to dream about. besides the continental offer, they present you with the local produce ! genuine products! have to visit again !

"Catania City Visit"
MUFCTonto, 19 Mars 2019

This Best Western was just the ticket for a City Break base. A little more than a 10 minute walk to the main street in Catania. The staff were friendly and efficient with at least 1 English speaker on reception at all times. They were happy to advise on places to eat and drink as well as organizing airport transfer if required. Buffet breakfast was both hot and cold selection and always fresh. The only slight downside was the limited bar area but as a base it was great.

"Stayed for 2 nights"
teva_tan, 16 Janvier 2019

This hotel is terrible and no privacy. I had the “do not disturb” hanging on my door, I went out to get something to eat, when I returned my electronic key didn't work so I went to the lobby to get my key refreshed... the customer service agent said “my colleague was in your room and noticed you may have been having trouble with the blind that darkens the room”. I said, why was your colleague in my room since the do not disturb sign was on my door? The customer service guy said “my colleague knew you weren't there... I stated that I was not ok with that.

"Modest and near downtown"
Moobs B, 09 Décembre 2018

Had to stay there because of school and it's location made it an easy walk to most everything. The breakfast was vast and had a good variety for everyone. Very filling and made the easy a lot easier. The staff was very accommodating and made sure they addressed any issues. Very friendly and they all spoke excellent english.

"Nice hotel but take care dining nearby"
McTours-Ltd, 24 Novembre 2018

The Best Western Hotel Mediterraneo didn't offer diner when we stayed there but we were reassured that there were an abundance of restaurants nearby and so went off for a wander to find a place to eat. One of my travelling companions owned a stud farm and so had a great affinity with horses. Needless to say he was mortified to find so many of the local diners serving horse flesh, so, we dined on Cheese that night! The hotel is nice though. Well placed in a central location for the historical center and a park. Entered a building that had "three legs of man" plaster work on the ceiling roses but neglected to note where that was other than it was on Via Etna. If you find it please remind me what it was.

"Amazing stay in Catania to celebrate our anniversary"
GrazGrech, 21 Novembre 2018

Hotel is situated in the city centre, 10 mins walk from the Centro Storico of Catania and Via Etnea. Hotel is extremely clean, very good breakfast (it even included scrambled eggs and bacon) and staff are very pleasant and helpful. We celebrated our anniversary last Monday and hotel staff decorated the room with flowers, and provided us with champagne and fruit to top up our celebrations. This 4 star hotel is highly recommended.

"Like it."
michael c, 06 Novembre 2018

Good breakfast, good bed, very clean room, all staff helpfull, and not far to the Centre , 12 minutes walk to open Market and to via Etnea. I tried other hotels in Catania, but this is one of the best hotel in Catania.

"Good Value"
KenDallasTx, 19 Octobre 2018

We stayed at this hotel for two nights, after spending ten days in Sorrento, Amalfi and Palermo. It is convenient for touring Monte Etna. Although this hotel is not a beautiful jewel, our room was clean and comfortable, the staff was helpful and the breakfast (extra 3€ charge) was very nice. All of this was provided for a much lower price than the other hotels we experienced on this trip. Only slight issues with the location and the fitness center. We arrived at night and used a public bus to the Piazza Santa Maria di Gesù, as advised by the hotel. However, the promised six minute walk from that point seemed much longer because the hotel is a little hard to find on a side street in the dark. A taxi would have been easier, but costlier. Also, the fitness center at this hotel is only open between 8:30am-8:30pm, which rendered it useless to us. Overall though, the hotel was a good deal. I can't imagine returning to Catania, but if I do, I wouldn't mind staying there again.

"Comfortable Room, friendly staff, excellent value for money"
Paul L, 16 Octobre 2018

We arrived at around 22.00 after a late flight. We were checked in rapidly and directed to an excellent nearby restaurant for dinner. There was valet service parking for our rented car. Our room was comfortable, well equipped, of a decent size and with a spacious and elegant bathroom. Everything worked including the free wifi. Breakfast was fine. This is a three star hotel and should be judged accordingly. It is really excellent value for money.

"Will go again :)"
SusanAbela, 02 Octobre 2018

Hotel was easy to find and a in a good location. Room was so pretty, vert comfortable bed. Colourful bathroom and everywhere very clean. Breakfast was a real surprise, really amazing, lots on offer cold and hot buffet and was dead cheap too. 5 stars from us :)

"Catania overnight!!"
Nicosia L, 17 Septembre 2018

Very comfortable room ,Close to via Etnea, My room was big and washroom too....compare to the usual rooms you book in Italy... We had a fridge and balcony...I had a wonderful stay ,bed was comfy ..I recommend this hotel and I will return for the price and location worth every penny!! The only issue is if you have a car ..they have parking but can be full so you have to go to a few blocks away to park..The staff very helpful and courteous ...For those who have issues with their mobility they have an elevator ...

"Catania stop"
Maria A, 15 Septembre 2018

Just had to stop in Catania for one Night. This hotel más very good. Easy Access, taxi service, close to main avenue, via Etnea. Excellent front desk service. Clean and spacious. Breakfast was great, very Italian. Nice cool and dark room for a perfect sleep. Close to great restaurants.

"Well-managed and comfortable"
Wsy26, 08 Septembre 2018

Spent a week at the Best Western Mediterraneo Catania. Enjoyed the mix of many European nationalities and heard no other UK guests. It was good value. Staff are friendly, helpful and professional. The hotel is quietly well-managed and the housekeeping immaculate. Thanks for a very comfortable week!

"Marvellous hotel in friendly Catania suburb 5 minutes from Bellini gardens"
getaboutalotwales, 12 Août 2018

Marvellous, hotel with very friendly , helpful efficient staff.Mediterraneo is literally five minutes walk from the hotel in fact you can see the gardens from the hotel. If you decide not longer in the gardens another five minutes walk through the park brings you to Via Etnea the beautiful main street of Catania.Mediterraneo is furnished retro style and is kept immaculately clean. My room had a balcony and a very efficient and quiet Aircon. The bathroom was huge with a bath bidet and powerful shower. My room had a fridge, TV with over 200 channels. My sheets were changed every three days. The staff everywhere were very friendly helpful and always smiling.Stefania, Eduardo, Federico were especially wonderful.Breakfast was served when busy in two rooms.A magnificent spread it was too.Fresh fruit bananas , pineapple, peaches.Other fruits like plums, pears were available too.A massive variety of fruit juices and yoghurts were available too.A choice of scrambled/boiled eggs, bacon, ham, cheeses. There were cakes, breads.A choice of coffee also such as Americano, capuchino were available on request.A great breakfast indeed. Many traditional restaurants were just around the corner. All in all a great hotel to stay in Catania I am very glad I chose the Hotel Mediterraneo. and

"Nice place"
Ramón F, 29 Juillet 2018

An unprepossesing hotel that still delivers it. Not in the very center of the city but still at walking distance. Rooms, cleanness and staff OK. The buffet at the breakfast was just enough, but the room a bit small perhaps.

"Excellent, capable staff, good rooms for the price, and an outstanding breakfast."
88patrick, 26 Juillet 2018

The best thing about this hotel is the friendly, capable staff. They were my allies in my first visit to Sicily and Catania. The young women behind the counter spoke very good English. They gave me a very good restaurant recommendation, sold me a ticket for the nearby bus that goes from the airport to the train station and told he how to find it, They also advised me on how to get a taxi ride at a fair price. (The key is to have the hotel reserve a taxi for you. They do this online, and the appropriate price is settled in advance, Uber-like. If you hail a taxi at the airport, as I did (sigh!) the taxi driver may wind up overcharging you). The other thing that I loved about this hotel was the breakfast. The buffet was abundant, varied, and delicious. The coffee was outstanding--the best I had in my two-weeks in Sicily, and coffee is very good in Sicily. The room was pleasant and comfortable. Not big, but not cramped either. The hotel's downside is that it is in a nondescript neighborhood. You can walk from the hotel to Catania's highlights, but it takes about 10 minutes. The bus that goes from the train station to the airport is only two or three blocks away, though. This bus is a very good alternative to taking a taxi from the airport or train station. If I'm ever in Catania again, I'd stay here. Ah! That coffee and breakfast!

"Comfortable Room - Quiet environment - friendly staff"
pauldaviesuk, 26 Mai 2018

A good sized and comfortable room with a comfortable bed. Small balcony (which we used occasionally). Shuttered windows to keep out the noise and heat. We didn't eat or drink at the hotel - just used it as a base from which we could explore the city and the south-eastern part of Sicily. The only minor complaint we have is that the room preparation staff didn't always replace the coffee pods when they had been used.

"One night stay"

The entire hotel smells like its releasing cigarette scent thru the vents. Out dates and smelly. DO NOT BE FOOLED NO PARKING, except on the street. Breakfast is 3 Euro per person. If you are allergic and hate smoke smell don't waste your time and $. Book somewhere else .

"OK hotel"
Jana N, 16 Mai 2018

We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights. All went ok, the location of the hotel is good, very close to the centre, the hotel is clean and rooms reasonably sized. During our stay, there were some works on the adjacent building however we didn't stay in the hotel during the day and the workers finished around 6pm so it didn't bother us. The breakfast was nice with a variety to choose from. The rooms have coffee/tea making facilities, safe and a mini fridge. Helpful personnel.

"Fair hotel"
jd1234567, 28 Mars 2018

I stayed one night at the Best Western. Though it's on a somewhat dingy looking street, it's actually about a 10 minute walk from the main shopping areas of Catania. The hotel has a small parking garage across the street, and the staff are happy to take care of the car for you, with a very fair parking fee. I'd recommend calling in advance to ensure parking is available for your dates. The staff were very friendly, and the breakfast was a good value. My room was clean, but the furnishings (green furniture and blue bathroom tile) looked rather dated. Based on the price I paid, I'd stay again.

"Very good"
Debora S, 15 Février 2018

The hotel is very good, clean, with a good location. The breakfast is wonderful, with a lots of variety. The room id big, confortable and quiety. The employees are the best: polite and do everything to help the gests. I recomend the hotel sincerely.

I stayed in this Hotel from 1st to 3rd November 2017 and found this hotel to be excellent. Its a very nice hotel and clean. Friendly stuff and nice rooms with 100% very good service. I recommend this hotel to everyone. Very good breakfast. Next time I visit Catania, I book in this hotel again. Thanks for all the stuff. Thanks for a very good service. Carmel Garcia from Malta.

"Etna experience"
KobomvelikbomJanko, 05 Novembre 2017

Comfortable and clean room, friendly and helpful staff, very good breakfast. Fully functional and spacious bathroom. Very good location close to Bellini Park, restaurants and a supermarket. The bright green LED in the emergency light could disturb your sleep. There was some noise from the construction site in the neighbourhood during the day. Luckily, we were away then. Selection of bread for breakfast was limited from time to time, but on a request the staff responded promptly.

ocasey, 16 Octobre 2017

This hotel is a very nice hotel and the staff is very friendly the hotel is very clean and the service is excellent it is centrally located in the city and they have tours at the front desk can order and they come and pick you up at the front desk that is nice only complaint I have is they got it and prove their mattresses they're very hard they're like box springs not soft at all otherwise the place is perfect

"Lovely clean Hotel"
Laurence N, 16 Octobre 2017

Just spent a week here, nice clean hotel! Must mention ladies on reception, very pleasant & helpful! Also the guys at the bar/ restaurant! A special mention for the guy on the carpark, helped solve a difficult situation!???? Good location for the Hotel, only downside, area around Hotel is very rundown! Lots of graffiti, smelly bins & dog mess! Shame, as this is a lovely hotel, that the local services are so poor! Still recommend the Hotel! ????

"Great Location for Exploring Catania"
Fran0812, 11 Octobre 2017

We had only one night at Hotel Mediterraneo. It was in a great location - an easy walk to the center of the city. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was professional as well as friendly. They made sure we had a taxi to the airport so that we were there in plenty enough time to catch our plane. When we visit Catania again, we will definitely stay in this hotel.

"Convenient Location"
SpoiledForChoice, 23 Septembre 2017

For us, location of this hotel in Catania was convenient: relatively easy access and exit from the town by car, yet walking distance to the centre. Moreover local supermarket and restaurants/ eateries were very close nearby. Parking was extra to the price, but probably worth it. Breakfast (€3 each extra per day), wifi, cable tv, tea making facilities were good. Staff were very pleasant and Alberto was particularly helpful. I would be happy to stay here again.

"Ticked all our boxes"
KfordRedSox, 22 Septembre 2017

For a city centre hotel which is located just on the edge of the main area you would be hard pushed to beat the Mediterraneo.10 minutes walk to the centre of town, 2 minutes walk to a few excellent local restaurants, pleasant hotel staff coupled with possibly the quietest hotel room we have had in a long time. Let's start with our room located on the first floor (112), first impressions were that it's roomy and comfortable, the downside was the balcony area was surrounded by large railings with just a view of the air conditioning system, this wasn't important a generally the steel shutters were always down to keep the room cool and we were always out during the day. We arrived at around 1pm following an early flight so a siesta would have been ideal but the hotel was surrounded by building work and drilling was in operation. As we found out, the building work starts at 7:30am and stops for a couple of hours at 2pm but this in no way was an issue for us, as I said earlier the room was otherwise really quiet being end of corridor, we have experienced much worse from inconsiderate noisy guests elsewhere all hours of the day and night. Wi Fi did not work in our room but it is only a 30 second walk to use Wi Fi in the very comfortable lobby area. Don't let these few small issues put you off but it's best to give an honest opinion, the positives far outweigh the few negatives. Positives are the room was comfortable and had efficient quiet air con, the breakfasts are continental with a good range of choice and the hotel appears to be competitively priced with helpful staff. All in all I can only agree with previous good reviews, that's why we booked here and we were not disappointed.

"Lovely Hotel"
mylobirmingham, 21 Septembre 2017

Staff couldn't do enough for us, very friendly , as we were on the front of the hotel. It was a little noisy, we asked if it would be possible to be moved , was sorted within 1/2 hour, upgraded to executive suite at no extra cost, Rooms spotlessly clean , air con a God send in June with the heat....

"Great service, very pleasant hotel, convenient location"
Stanlad, 20 Septembre 2017

Ideal base in Catania for visiting the area. Staff were brilliant - Eduardo very helpful with bookings and travel advice, reception and waiters great. Breakfast (cereal, fruit, yoghurt, cheese, ham, eggs etc) plentiful. Rooms big, clean and well air-conditioned. Good restaurants round the corner - we preferred Baronessa to Barone. Prices good, lovely seafood and good cheap wine by the caraffa if you ask. Also large supermarket (Simply) nearby. Trip to Taormina etc, walk along Corso Sicilia or get Metro to bus station ( Metro: Giovanni XXIII) and buy tickets in Interbus near Via Archimede. Also you can avoid tourist bus to Acitressa (15E) but get 2x1E tickets from any parking meter and get AMT bus 534 in Via Etnea. But do go if you can. Etna Tribe were great for Etna visit (hotel will book) and Enzo was a fine guide. Thanks to him we fought through hundreds of Etna customers struggling for tickets. Massive tourist place with dozens of cars and coaches and ten identical shops selling usual tourist stuff. Very interesting of course, but Etna resembles a giant dusty slag-heap and looks better from a distance! We are in our 60s and managed to walk round town with no problem or worries. It looks a bit run-down in places with graffiti, but it's a nice place. Botanical gardens not far - free and a lovely oasis of amazing plants and trees. Overall, a great holiday at Best Western with their lovely staff.

"3*hotel with 5* staff !"
Mihaela R, 07 Août 2017

I travelled with my friend to Catania and stayed at the Best Western Hotel Mediterraneo for 3 nights. The staff of the hotel are very friendly and helpful, giving maps and info. Antonella's English was excellent and she was very eager to assist us. The room was spacious with 2 large beds, a balcony and en-suite bathroom.Everything was spotless clean. They even change your bedsheets every day if you want, still telling you about environmental and economical issues. Breakfast was only continental but there was plenty of it, tea, coffee, milk, yoghurt, fresh juices, breads, pastries, fruit, cereals, cheeses, cold meats and even boiled eggs and omelettes. You can also order freshly brewed coffee/capuccino and granita ice cream! There is also a selection of gluten free options. We have read other reviews, and we'll write for those who are no longer young and fit! Even if we could walk from the hotel to the city centre, we preferred to spend 8 EURO and get a taxi. Thus, we could walk in the centre and spend more time there. We had an unpleasant surprise with Terassa del Barone which only opened at 8pm. So, no food options during daytime. On the other hand, we found excellent food at reasonable prices in the restaurants near Piazza del Duomo. You could also try Trattoria La Canonica(next to St Agatha Church), which is a beautiful place serving traditional food and wine .As for desserts, you should try a cannoli with ricota cheese, they're delicious. If you want to buy traditional sweets, to take home, ask the hotel staff about Sottile, which is very close to the hotel and has good prices(a cookie 1,5 EURO in Piazza del Duomo and 0,50 in Sottile!). As for the tours, we chose "Katane live" company(the yellow one,in Piazza del Duomo), and the young lady was very nice and helpful and we had a good time going to Aci castello and Aci trezza. They had audio guides in several languages and it was relaxing to sit and listen to the commentary. It was also pretty cheap. We also chose Etna Tribe for 1/2 trip to Naxos Giardini,Isola Bella, Castelmonte and Taormina, and that was an excellent choice. All in all Catania was a wonderful experience!

"All you need"
TacoBellLover, 22 Juillet 2017

This hotel is not expensive and you get the best bargain for your money! The rooms are not small and very clean. The bathroom is rather large. You have lots of TV channels, where you can switch the language to english. The hotel is fairly good located. If you are not averse to walking a bit you can reach everything in Catania by foot (we did). The via edna is just a aprox. 7/8 minute walk through the beautiful Giardin Bellini. Most of the staff was very friendly and helpful. And the breakfast is nearly ridiculously cheap. For just 3 € you get all you need to start the day deliciously. You have a fairly large buffet and you can - and should - order freshly brewed coffee and granita ice cream! Would go back on my next visit.

"Great hotel"

Good rooms- spacious and clean, very good breakfast- many choices, not bad location- 10 minutes from the Main Street, near a nice park, good retaurants near by, very nice and helpful stuff, recommended!!!

"great place to stay in Catania"
ragazza19, 18 Juin 2017

This hotel is well located for the city centre, a short walk away. The surrounding area doesn't look great but I felt perfectly safe there. The hotel has all the facilities needed including free wifi. My room had a terrace but no furniture out there. There was air con, a mini bar and safe (free of charge). Good breakfast choices including fresh fruit and cake. Staff were helpful but not friendly.

"Excellent value for money"
Philipp B, 05 Juin 2017

Due to the late-night arrival of our plane in Catania we decided to stay in Catania for one night. Based on online recommendations, I decided to book this hotel online for one night for a room for two. The staff was very friendly and the room was clean and just what we expected. We paid €64.50 for one night which I consider excellent value for money. As we did not go out I cannot comment on the area. This hotel offers an airport pickup at €25, which was worth it (we got a cab back to the airport the next day to pick up our rental car, which was €23, so the value is also ok). For a short stay where you will just need to sleep I recommend this place. Only downside, as with all of Sicily, that in the early morning the neighborhood can be a bit noisy. That is just something that needs to be dealt with but didn't interrupt our night sleep.

"Don't stay here if you can help it"
Alice C, 18 Mai 2017

The first thing that hits you on arrival is the smell, stale air mixed with bleach! The room smelled bad too, like a school changing room with poor drains. The room was so plain and bare it was like being in a hospital cell, and the single bed was very single... breakfast was poor too. What a shame.

"exellent hotel"
Dalibor S, 17 Mai 2017

Great location with good prize.Very pleasent staff.Near the center of Catania. The room are very clean and comfortable.Breakfest is exellent. If you need some information about Sicily ,you'll get them on reception from kind recepcionist.

"Decent, clean, classic"
depinniped, 17 Mai 2017

The location is not excellent (about 20 minutes walk fron the duomo) but not bad either. The hotel is ugly outside but the rooms are good, with all conforts. Service is good, depending on who's at the desk: there is a guy with a beard who is really rude and unprofessional and a lady who is exactly the opposite (kind and professional). Breakfast is quite good, with fresh cakes and pastries and fruit.

"Great first time in Sicily"
Malleycats, 09 Mai 2017

I travelled on my own to Catania and stayed at the Best Western Hotel Mediterraneo. The staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was very spacious with a very large double bed, a balcony and en-suite bathroom. Breakfast was only continental but there was plenty of it, tea, coffee, juices, breads, pastries, fruit, cereals etc. The best recommendation the staff gave me was to eat at La Terrazza del Barone, a very short 5 min walk from the hotel. The food was incredible! Catania is a wonderful town with lots to do. It would probably also be a good base for exploring the eastern side of Sicily (Taormina, Messina, Syracuse to mention a few). I only visited Mount Etna outside of Catania. Etna is an absolute MUST!!! It's so amazing to stand on the side of a volcano that's active!!! Book with Etna Tribe, they're fab! Very knowledgeable guide, he made the trip very interesting with all his stories and information. Be aware though that, usually, you have to pay to take the cable car up to 2500 m as this isn't included in the tour price. You decided if you only want to go to 2500 m or if you want to go further up Etna (which is in a minibus) and it takes you to approx 2900 m. You can't go right up to the crater as it's too dangerous. But the view... The view is to die for... Once you've taken the cable car and arrived at 2500 m, you can hire walking boots if you haven't got any. There are also toilets, a cafe' and a souvenir shop up there. The main sights to see in Catania are the Duomo (the cathedral) and Piazza Duomo, the Monastery of the Benedictine monks (which is now a university), Sicily largest church San Nicolo (next door to the monastery), the Roman amphitheater, the Greco-roman archeological park, Castillo Ursino (sooooo worth going!) and shops along Via Etnea (the main thoroughfare). Worth a mention is Palazzo Biscari (if it's open and if there's a tour) and the Botanical gardens. Both these attractions are (unbelievably!) free! There was an Andy Warhol (?!?) exhibition at the Castillo Ursino, which was weird.

"Friendly staff"
Janice0333, 27 Avril 2017

Hotel is well situated, in a quiet location and just a short walk from the old city centre. Staff were always extremely pleasant and we really enjoyed Antonella's smile and friendly nature at check-in and every subsequent time we had a question at the reception area. It's always the people that make the difference and the staff here made our stay memorable - from check-in to the young gentlemen who assisted us for storing and recovering our bicycles. Room was quite large and comfortable. Only comment I would give is that while the room was generally quite clean, it appeared that cleaning staff seemed to neglect vacuuming of the carpet.

"Lovely Hotel!"
Kitti E, 09 Avril 2017

We sent 7 nights in BW mediterraneo and what I could say is just how amazing the Hotel is! High standard of customer service! The hotel has excellent location. Close to the Via Etna and the main square. The room was clean and nice. Had a great overlooking for the Mountain. I can just recommend this hotel. They made us an unfortunate experience and we can't wait to visit you again. Thank you very much indeed!

"Very nice clean hotel"
Andrew D, 31 Mars 2017

Very friendly good location. Wifi and sky TV in rooms. Clean and nice breakfast. Friendly helpful staff great place to explore Etna and other places of interest. Trips can be booked by reception. Well worth a stay if in the area

"outside the city centre but to be recommended"
l-a d, 05 Mars 2017

Negative: 1. the pasta al pesto ordered in the hotel was a-tro-cious!! It was rubbery, some bits were uncooked and I was told that it was like that since it had been deep-frozen (cooked pasta out of the deep-freeze and the microwaved, in Italy??) 2. I couldn't work the thermostat and set it to low. 3. There is a constant humming noise from - I guess - the heating/airco system, but you get used to that. However: Positive: 1. Personnel. Really, really very, very kind, helpful and they will go out of their way if you have a request. Very efficient, down to earth. Top marks! 2. The room and bathroom: excellent!!! Very spacious and the bathroom was geared for people in a wheelchair. Requested a tea-maker and got one. 3. Breakfast: very good! 4. The salad was simple but good and if you eat in the hotel, the meal is served in the downstair breakfast room. Centre is less than a 15-minute walk away (turn right, walk to the park, go round the park while keeping the park to your left and as you descend the steps you will reach a street where you can catch the Alibus to the airport at the telegraph office for €4 which will take you there in 20 minutes). Via Etnea is right in front of you.

"Nice hotel to stay..."
Ebru A, 31 Janvier 2017

I stayed at this hotel in January for to attend a conference..The hotel has a very convenient location. It is a 10 minute walk to Via Etnea which is the center of the City and the signs on the way to hotel makes it very easy to find the hotel by walking.. Rooms are small but convenient and clean..Good breakfast..and good price as well...Nice and helpful staff..

"Good Value"
Scorpion2014, 07 Janvier 2017

Stayed for five nights, enjoyed the stay as this hotel has all the facilities, breakfast very good and with a nice choice, bedrooms very clean and staff very helpful. Will recommend for anyone wanting to travel to Catania

"A short break in Catania"
Joseph R, 28 Novembre 2016

I have just returned from a four day break in Catania staying at the Best Western Hotel Mediterraneo on a bed and breakfast basis. The hotel and the rooms are very clean. The rooms are very spacious and quiet. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Room service is very good and rooms are cleaned every day and towels changed on a daily basis. The breakfast was very abundant with a good variety of items included English breakfast. If you intend to visit Catania do not hesitate to book at the Best Western Hotel Mediterraneo which is in the centre of Catania.

"excellent stay with the best value!"
Dongshu O, 27 Octobre 2016

good location, clean rooms and comfort sleep and the best-value of stay in Catania! parking is reasonable. However, the elevator is too small and slow and sometimes it's easir to climb up - but not with kids or big luggages!

"Hidden gem, not far from anywhere!"
Shalini D, 22 Octobre 2016

What a wonderful surprise this hotel was. Every interesting place (fish market, cathedral, elephant square, Bellini gardens etc etc) was walking distance (20-30 min walk). The rooms are excellent with balcony, the wifi is free and breakfast is wonderful. Sky TV channels were free as well. Staff was good and very helpful. Overall, a wonderful experience, I would repeat it again if I came to Catania again.

"Found something I did not expect"
Johan B, 20 Octobre 2016

This Hotel is rated as 3 star but when I used it, I found something I did not expect. This Hotel is to be rated 4 star. Great staff, very nice rooms, good breakfast, free internet, TV with Sky in different languages. It is situated in a quite area of Catania behind Bellini Gardens. 10 to 15 minutes walk from the centre. I really recommend this Hotel.

"whats not to like?"
mroy, 20 Octobre 2016

stayed here beginning of october in a double room on the fifth floor. view to back of hotel so no road noise. it had a large balcony. room was spacious and spotlessly clean. air conditioning was great and so was water pressure. towels and linen changed regularly. Staff were all nice and friendly. They booked trips and showed me how to use their computer which i needed for boarding passes. Large buffet breakfast and again staff were lovely. There is a coffee machine but the waiter will bring you capuchino and anything else you need. The area may not be the prettiest but is perfectly safe. It is only a 10 min walk through a lovely park to the main street. There was nothing i did not like about the hotel and would happily reccommend

"Hidden out of centre but sufficient"
Pavel N, 12 Octobre 2016

Don´t try to find it in the centre. It is 300 m from Giardino Bellini, but far from Cathedral, or Castello Ursini. There is friendly staff. Good breakfast. Just Italian TV programmes and no international press in the lobby. Just Italian. There is supermarket Siply nearby - 10 min walk. Maybe good for business travellers or walking lovers. Not for tourists who want to be in living town.

"Good value hotel"
Gordon A, 08 Octobre 2016

We had 2 nights in Best Western Mediterraneo. The staff were polite and helpful and very willing to assist. Our room on 4th floor was clean and tidy if somewhat dated in decor. But it all worked and the bed comfortable. The breakfast was adequate and very reasonably priced. We found it an easy walk from the hotel to the town Centre to attractions and shops. Dinner we ate at their recommended LA Terrazza del Barone , a 250 metre walk. The food was yummy and very reasonable. We will recommend the hotel to friends.

"Pleasant Hotel."
AndyBetty, 05 Octobre 2016

Nice comfortable hotel about 15-20 minute walk to centre. Rooms are good and nice size. Free Wifi, good breakfast for only 3 euro per person. Staff are very helpful. Nice restaurants close by and in centre. A good choice if staying in Catania.

"Decent"
ufgirl76, 04 Octobre 2016

The staff was friendly and the beds were comfortable. The room had a large bathroom with shower and tub. If you want a washcloth, you will have to specifically ask for them. The streets surrounding the hotel were dirty but we never felt unsafe walking around. I would stay here again.

"Last minute booking"
Gordon S, 01 Octobre 2016

Due to a train strike our plans were thrown into chaos. Booking here at short notice was a godsend as it was in complete contrast to our previous hotel, a 4 star. Staff extremely helpful and friendly, room was large and comfortable, bathroom was excellent. Breakfast once again,a typical European continental, was ample. A 12 noon checkout was good for us as we had a 3pm flight to catch. Situated close to the centre of Catania most attractions were accessible by walking. A good stopover hotel.

"Perfect for short stay."
Bruno1300, 26 Septembre 2016

Very pleased that hotel had read our requests before we arrived and given us a room that had all of our requests. Good sized rooms, comfortable beds, very clean and good air con, city view from balcony, quiet for a good nights sleep. Easy parking, fee for certain hours. 10 min easy walk to Benedictine monastery, then 3 mins to Roman theatre, 2 to Duomo. Good breakfast for 3 euro each. Baronne local restaurant 200m away was good value and entertaining. On top of this was very competitive price. Would recommend and stay again if in Catania.

"Execelente"
luiz0163, 21 Septembre 2016

Excellent hotel. Well located. Great service. Very comfortable rooms. Close to all the amenities of the city and easy access to transportation, but you can reach many tourist points by walking . Unfortunately it not offers free parking.

"All considered is a good hotel"
andrewasroma, 15 Septembre 2016

I stayed in Best Western Mediterraneo from 4 to 12 September 2016 in room 406. There is not much you can say in terms of criticism about this hotel. The rooms are clean and adequate for a short medium stay and there is a balcony. You have satellite TV including all sports. Bathroom is large and there is a lot of storage room for cloths. Breakfast is also good, very tasty and you can also order a "granita". The staff is particularly nice and professional. Location is acceptable. Wifi free and works well. Also free newspapers available at reception.

"Just What We Wanted!"
Oldbags186338, 31 Juillet 2016

Had a group of 40 conducting a battlefield tour for 5 days. The staff were courteous and helpful. The rooms were small (Single) but more than adequate for our needs. AC excellent! Used a Conference Room each day for our pre-day briefings

"Good choice"
pali2fr, 21 Juillet 2016

Excellent value for the price. It's not in the city center, but it's only short walk to most popular destinations. About 45 min walk to the rocky beach. The room was large and clean, with a large shower and great air conditioning. It has a fridge and safe. Our room had a balcony, but no chairs or table. The staff was friendly. They do have a bar and room service. The breakfast selection was large, and the quality adequate. We've had better quality of food at other hotels in Italy. Overall, would go back.

"A Clean Comfortable Hotel"
E N, 21 Juillet 2016

ear Hotel Mediterraneo, We would just like to send to all the staff at your hotel a very Big Thank You for making our stay with you so wonderful and pleasent. We were really blessed that you could find the extra night to stay with you,as there would have been nowhere for us to stay at Catania Airport due to our own mistake,.We found the hotel to be very clean and comfortable, the breakfast gave an excellant amount of choice,

"Very Good Hotel"
ellias447, 30 Juin 2016

I have spent 4 nights here. The room was spotless and large, with all the amenities you expect from a good hotel, including a water kettle and tea and coffee, to make coffee in the room. The only thing that I did not like was that driving to the hotel, you drive through a lot of rundown dirty streets, full of grafitti, which gives you the impression that you are in a slum area. But the street the hotel is situated is not that bad.

"Decent Hotel"
Chi W, 19 Juin 2016

We did all our travelling by public transport so here's a bit of advice as I found it quite difficult - You can get the AMT Alibus from the airport to Catania train station (€4) which enables you to take any other AMT bus within 90 mins of stamping the ticket (you can buy tickets on board). This bus comes every 25 mins and is quite punctual. From the train station you can get the 431N bus which takes you to Via Lago di Nicito (closest stop to the hotel). We tried this option but we waited for this bus at the train station for over an hour (it arrived eventually but the driver left and we didn't have the patience to see him come back) so we eventually walked (about half an hour walk). Instead you could stay on the Alibus and get off at Bellini Ovest and walk through the park (if it's not late and you don't have too much luggage) as that is just a 5-10min walk. We actually got the Alibus from here to the airport. The hotel is fairly close to the city centre (the main shopping/eating area of Via Etnea), there is a park in between which provides a nice stroll and there are a few nearby restaurants/bakeries and a mini supermarket. The surrounding area isn't the prettiest, by day it is quite busy but by night I didn't feel as safe as it is quite quiet, dimly lit and you hear sirens quite a bit. The hotel itself is quite aged but the staff were super friendly and helpful (we had many questions) and our room - 508 - was spacious and clean. The only problem was that our door was quite hard to lock (turn the lock too many/few times and the door would open when you turn the handle - still don't quite understand) and the doors slam quite loudly on close.

"Good Location"
Nir B, 17 Juin 2016

This location is not too large but located in a central location and within 10-20 minutes walk of the major attractions and the beach. It is in a relatively quiet area and some good very local restaurants. Some specialize in Horse Meat - which I did not touch.

"Good hotel reasonable location."
Eviladj, 17 Juin 2016

Located in the heart of the city and a 5 min walk to some descent bars and restaurants. Staff are very helpful, breakfast is your standard euro fair, parking is limited and best left to hotel staff to do for you. Rooms are adequate with descent aircon.

"Good Location in Catania"
bluegene126, 07 Juin 2016

Stayed at this hotel two nights 6-2-16 and 6-3-16 Arrived from Taormina by train and a short 15 minute bus ride to the hotel A short 15 minute walk to the main street in Catania A great restaurant right down the street from the hotel Staff at hotel were nice- good breakfast, good internet, and a short 15 minute cab ride toCatania Airport

"Good business-type hotel"
jrk011, 02 Juin 2016

The hotel is good if a bit nondescript. Full of business people on a Friday; all left by Saturday. The location for a tourist is so-so only; a fast walk to the center of Catania took 20 minutes; we took a taxi back. The taxi driver described the area of the hotel as "Our Bronx". That was a bit of exaggeration, but it sure doesn't look too good. Otherwise, everything worked in the hotel as it should. The staff was a bit overworked, but helpful.

"Just average."
Francesca M, 31 Mai 2016

Clean spacious room however very dated and not aesthetically appealing. Wifi in room is non existent even though there is signal and very limited in the foyer. Breakfast is very basic and not as much range as other Italian hotels. In room kettle was handy however no milk in the room fridge and no iron. Shame about the location of the hotel also as it is surrounded by dirty and rubbish covered streets.

"Good hotel"
Nick M, 30 Mai 2016

I stayed for three nights while attending a conference. The room was spacious and clean and the staff professional and courteous. The breakfast was a fairly standard continental buffet. In general the hotel was very good but not exceptional

One of the things I look for when I book a hotel is internet access. Either free WiFi or paid. This hotels wifi was horrible. The router signal was strong but there was very little data from the provider. You would think that a hotel such as this which caters to business travelers would ensure quick internet access, not this place. I expect better from Best Western. So, the room was very nice and clean, staff helpful, hotel located near center of tourist area, about a 10 minute walk.

"Excellent hotel in a good location"
_jennifer_lorch, 14 Mai 2016

The rooms in this hotel are quite large with a decent sized bathroom with a bath. I had a double room for single occupancy with a king size bed which was very comfortable. The room was quiet. It had a kettle - not very common in Italian hotels; and there was plenty of room in the wardrobe. The staff were exceptionally helpful and efficient. On my last day I managed to lock the safe so that I could not open it - a member of staff came in 2 minutes and opened it. The hotel is conveniently situation near a bus stop into the centre and within 3 minutes of a wonderful restaurant, Il Terrazzo del Barone.

"Very friendly staff!"
martinospiaggia, 13 Mai 2016

All our needs/requests were responded to quickly. The entire hotel was very clean and well stocked. Continental breakfast had variety and was fresh, the tuna salad from the bar I had for lunch was surprisingly fresh and tasty. My barista makes a mean americano coffee...so I had a second!

"Much better than expected!"
BayernRulz, 11 Mai 2016

I wasn't expecting much from Best Western Brand (previous bad experience) specially in Italy but I was very pleasantly surprised. Hotel is ideally located in a residential area , about 5 minute walk to the main shopping street and 30 minute walk to the bus and train station. What I liked the most about our room was the size, it was huge (and came with a balcony) and spotlessly clean. A/C wasn't working but it wasn't hot enough so we just left the balcony open for the night. TV comes with Sky satellite and all the channels you might need. OK this is not the newest hotel and might look a bit dated but it's not worn out our shabby. Breakfast doesn't come with much ( well it's Italy after all) but coffee is great and you can squeeze your own orange juice from the machine.

"3.5 stars"
Ron S, 09 Mai 2016

The room was clean but fairly small and looked dated. Actually the entire hotel looked dated. As did the area and the town itself. Service was good. The staff were friendly and very accommodating. They have a parking garage right across the street for €9 a night. Breakfast was good. Wi-Fi worked well in the room.

"Very poor service"
AnumCM, 26 Avril 2016

My room was very large. Try to get a room ending in 06 as they are spacious. However, the service is very poor as when I would call someone for help to my room, the person sent would try to argue with me and tell me that there is no issue without even looking at what the problem is. He should wait for me to talk and then give his take on it. My safe wasn't working at first and I had to ask for it to be repaired, only for the man to first tell me nothing is wrong. He then saw the issue later and didn't apologise for saying there was nothing wrong in the first place. Secondly, they do not provide irons in the room so you must ask for one. One was brought up to my room but the irons are extremely outdated and need an upgrade!!! The one I was given had scratches on it and pulled on my brand new top that I had not even worn yet. It wrecked my whole top and no one cared to apologise or compensate for it in any way. I tried the iron on another item and it did the same thing. And yes, I can iron properly, the iron was faulty. I asked for another one and yet again the man said I already have one, why did I ask for another? Without even having a look at the issue. Need better training of their staff. Very upset.

"Very nice for this money"
Iulian P, 23 Avril 2016

It is the second time I visit Catania and I haved stayed to the same hotel, Mediteraneo. Again, very good and rich breakfast, very clean hotel and room, very good free wifi, very nice position for those that haven't rent a car. Last year I got a much bigger room that this time but was ok. Good job Mediteraneo

"Comfortable stay in this motel"
southlondonerSE27, 10 Avril 2016

Comfortable spacious room. Clean, quiet. Useful gym. Breakfast OK- but heavily carb based and I would have liked more fresh fruit etc- this was Sicily and the island is overflowing with sumptuous fruits! Great nearby restaurant at extremely reasonable prices. Good base for exploring the area- Etna, Taormina, Syracuse,Ortigia etc. We used the trains which were fast and efficient although the station in Catania seemed to be at the 'rougher' edge of town.

"Always the best choice "
Illo_64, 10 Mars 2016

At the end.... if you're looking at a good base point for your journey in Catania. ..that's "The Choice"!!! Away from city's noise but just around the corner from deeper center that's really my best choice indeed. Quality spot and good service for your need, equipped gim room available for free. ... good breakfast and discount on dinner's opportunity. Last but not least: tasty sweets on the counter desk! !!!!!yummy! !!!!

"Still a darn good place to stay"
aldopata, 08 Mars 2016

Every time I go back to this hotel I feel like going home. The staff are splendid and make you feel like on of the family. The rooms are spacious, clean and well equipped. The wi-fi works always and breakfast is excellent. The freshly squeezed orange juice is a definite asset as well as the tasty ricotta pastry.

"Comfort off the beaten track"
Betty668988, 05 Mars 2016

We weren't too sure about the location of this hotel when our taxi dropped us off. The area seemed quite dark and unfriendly. However as soon as we walked in the front door of the hotel, our apprehensions disappeared. The reception area was staffed with friendly, helpful people. Antonella was especially good to us and printed rail and bus schedules for us, gave us excellent information about city events, called ahead to our next booked hotel to get specific directions for us, and even gave us a personal contact number in case we had difficulties finding a "hard to find" location. Our room was small but very clean with a good bathroom, comfortable bed, good WiFi connections, and a balcony off the room. Our room was quiet. Ones facing the street may not have been, but there did not seem to be much traffic at night to cause any great noise. The breakfast was one of the best we had during a month long vacation. Still dream about the fantastic freshly pressed orange juice and the wonderful machine that juiced the oranges we fed to it. A coffee machine brews a variety of unlimited delicious coffees - a real bonus - and a full array of breads, cheeses, meats, eggs, fruit, cereals, cakes and pastries made it hard for us to leave after three wonderful mornings! The location turned out to be very good as well. We were there during the Carneval season and the festivities honoring Ste. Agatha and walked everywhere from the hotel. Although the area around the hotel was quite dark and deserted at night, we always felt safe walking . We'd go back in a flash.

"Second Home"
MMC82, 16 Février 2016

This is the 10th year that i use the Best Western Mediterraneo in Catania. I found it very clean as usual, and the staff was very helpful with us all the time. In these last 10 years the hotel has refurbished from time to time always for better. For sure you see me again, and keep up the good work.

"Comfortable accommodation but organised disorganization during breakfast"
BrigitteAttard, 07 Février 2016

A hotel which offers comfortable tourist class accommodation, but far from the town center, breakfast was invariably chaotic. The dining room did not accommodate / seat the number of guests at the hotel so that I had a three quarter of an hour wait to find a seat on one day, arriving late for an excursion. Staff did not overlook seating, removal of used dishes and cleaning of tables, let alone setting of the breakfast tables. in a timely and organised manner. The buffet was not replenished regularly to the extent that crockery, cutlery, coffee milk and bread had to be asked for, let alone other food items. One left the breakfast room feeling exhausted after hunting down necessities. I wouldn't return.

"Truly a hotel that deserves 3 stars, unlike many hotels in Italy which display 3 stars but are definitely NOT"
Liz G, 11 Décembre 2015

This hotel had welcoming and helpful staff. It is well located for accessing the historic centre which is a brief stroll away. The breakfast had a good selection of cereals, meats, cheeses, breads, cakes and fruit and more. It is also located a few blocks from where there is a strip of cheap basic Sicilian eating places heavily patronised by the locals with the popular meal being the grillata (displayed as you enter the restaurant), salad and bread, and good local inexpensive house wine. There are also a couple of wonderful pasticcerias in the same area to sample the local pastries and cakes. If you are travelling by car the hotel's location is not a safe area so it is risky to park in the street but the hotel garage is just across the street and offers safe parking. Unfortunately WiFi did not work in our room and we had to sit in the lobby to use the WiFi

"good hotel"
mtias2015, 09 Décembre 2015

very nice hotel, good location, breakfast was great. staff very helpful. we got a room in the top floor, it had a great view with its own terrace. desk clerks are very welcoming and ready to help out with any questions or advice

"Nice room, pity about the breakfast"
NewcastleRobert, 09 Décembre 2015

The hotel is well situated on a quiet street near the centre of town. The room is large and clean and the bed very comfy - I slept like a log. I have a decent sized balcony (no furniture on it) which has a superb view of Mount Etna which is erupting at the moment. I haven't figured out how to use the TV yet. The remote doesn't seem to have much effect on it. My first two days breakfast was a let down. Despite having a heating tray labelled 'scrambled eggs' it was empty. When I asked the rather surly waiter if I could have scrambled eggs he said 'no, only boiled eggs'. This morning there was a pleasant smiley waiter and scrambled eggs with fried bacon! All the rest of the things you'd expect at a continental breakfast buffet were there including a fabulous machine which squeezes fresh oranges for you. The breakfast is free which is a nice touch. WiFi is also free and works well and there are public computers for you to use as well. Apparently there is a fitness centre but I didn't try it. All in all I'd recommend this hotel as a frills free place to stay.

"Great hotel with good location"
Sam75, 23 Novembre 2015

The Best Western is located a few streets away from the main shopping street in Catania and within easy walking distance of all landmarks and the sea. The hotel itself is clean and bright, with free Wi-Fi. The rooms we stayed in were of a good size, clean, well kept and had a balcony to allow you to sit outside. Tea and coffee were provided (although they forgot to fill it up on the first morning and we had to ask for it to be re-filled), as were toiletries. The television is linked to sky, so there are a number of channels to chose from in English. We did have an issue with connection the first evening, but the hotel fixed it for us whilst we were out the next day, after which we had no more issues. The reception staff were helpful and pleasant. We booked our return airport transfers directly with the hotel for a competitive price. The Wi-Fi signal was strong in the room and could also be used in the lobby. The breakfast was plentiful and of a good quality.

"Accommodating Staff"
SpiderSD, 11 Novembre 2015

The room was nice and the staff was very accommodating. We drove and had difficulty locating the hotel, because navigating the streets in Catania is very difficult, even in the morning when the traffic is was light. Give yourself extra time to get to your destination when driving. Hotel parking is available for 10 euros and you do need the parking. Staff will park your car in a locked parking structure across the street. There are banks and restaurants nearby.

"Nice, Clean Hotel"
MaryMargot, 24 Octobre 2015

We often stay at Best Western Hotels because of the consistency in decor, service and cleanliness. We were not disappointed in this one in Catania. Our only objection is that it is not in central Catania, so if clients have ambulatory problems, such as two of our group, they have to rely on taxis.

"Nice room, shame about the staff "
Matthew A, 22 Octobre 2015

Stayed for one night at the Hotel Mediterraneo. Room was nice and spacious with good bed. Had a small patio that was backed onto by a generator, so view was not pleasant. Wifi did not work in the room. Front desk were grumpy and seemed inconvenienced by any questions. I booked the hotel as I read it had parking, but when I checked in was told the hotel doesn't have parking. Breakfast was a shambles with poor supplies in many areas, no welcome and one grumpy staff member on duty, who was not very attentive. Unimpressed at the poor service in all areas. I would choose another hotel next time.

"Good place to stay in Catania"
Steinar S, 21 Octobre 2015

Felt welcom once we got there after a long flight. Spacious room, good bed. Bathroom fairly clean and above all spacious. The room had a balcony, big enough for 2 persons. You have to bring Chairs from room, they are not very comfortable for relaxing. Wiew to street, but not noisy. Air-condition was good. Breakfast good, breakfast service excellent. (Coffee could be better !). Helpfull staff at reception.

"Great value"
Michellekotvas, 15 Octobre 2015

This hotel ticks all the boxes. Good location, good service, good wifi, clean and spacious rooms. What else can you need. We didn't have the breakfast as we had an early connection but the staff offered coffee and take away pastries which was really nice of them even if we didn't accept Awesome value and would stay there again if in Catania

"Absolutely GREAT hotel"
Timothy421, 06 Octobre 2015

From check-in through check-out the stay, the hotel, the services, and the personnel were the B E S T. This team knows how to take care of people and understands hospitality. We had a tremendously great time thanks to the orientation and support we received from the front desk personnel during the day (AND NIGHT !) - very helpful and really people of heart. Would stay here again as often as possible. Breakfast was great ! Coffee was wonderful. The team knows how to take care of guests and the rooms were spotless. This team goes out of their way to make you feel welcome.

"Exellent Hotel"
Anthony P, 01 Octobre 2015

As I said in my previous review Best Western Hotel is one of the Best 3 star hotel in Catania. I stayed there with my family in August and nothing to complain about, restaurants 2 to 5 minutes walk, no doubt about it. I will stay again and again

"Good Hotel for a good price"
Don M, 27 Septembre 2015

We stayed in Catania for two days and visited my wife's family villages in Lentini and Carlentini which is south of Catania. The hotel has very clean and spacious rooms with great showers, The breakfast was probably an 8 on a 1-10 scale. The staff was very helpful in directing us to restaurants and sights around Catania. We rented a car so we also went to Taoromina for an afternoon. The hotel had parking for the car for Euro 9 per day. We found Sicily to be amazing and the hotel lived up and exceeded out expectations.

"short break"
Carmen P, 13 Septembre 2015

woke up to a very good breakfast, nice helpful people. It is kept very clean.the mattress was good and the pillow was even better. It's a bit far from the market area and town centre but did us well walking a bit after all that eating.

"Comfortable hotel"
Denise T, 13 Septembre 2015

No complaints with the hotel but it is not in the best location. Rooms clean and comfortable. Quite a walk to the sights and public transport, through a very scruffy area. Graffiti everywhere. The town is quite disjointed, you have to enjoy roaming to find what you want.
