Learn more about Mannheim

A city of contrasts between two rivers and the third most populous city in the state of Baden-Württemberg with 300 000 inhabitants, Mannheim has many distinctive features. Located at the confluence of the Rhine and the Neckar, it lies between the Palatinate Forest and the Odenwald mountain ranges. Mannheim enjoys a particularly mild climate. Another special feature? Its population of 170 nationalities, which gives rise to cultural contrasts linked to often different ways of life.

After settling into a hotel in Mannheim, a first visit to the city centre is an opportunity to discover how it was designed. The divisions of the city's heart follow a perfect geometry, based on a succession of squares called " quadrate ". Another feature of the city centre is that it is home to the city's largest park, covering more than 5 hectares. Called Luisenpark, this park includes a botanical garden, a zoo and an amusement park, making it one of the most beautiful parks in Europe.

Headquarters of several international companies, Mannheim is Germany's second largest inland port. A dynamic city, Mannheim is also a renowned cultural destination with many museums, numerous theatre and music performances and frequent high-quality exhibitions. Among the famous museums, the Kunsthalle Mannheim presents several collections of 19th-century paintings and sculptures. The Reiss-Engelhorn museum also offers interesting collections, while the Technomuseum is, unsurprisingly, dedicated to technology.

The city is home to Germany's first " pop "-oriented music university, an institution renowned far beyond the country's borders. Its presence underlines the residents' love of music of all styles, from pure classical to modern rhythms and jazz. In summer, music festivals are particularly numerous and there is something for everyone! This diversity partly explains why visitors flock here in this season, which means you should book your hotel in Mannheim early enough.

Mannheim, a dynamic and relaxing city

Getting to the various leisure spots is no problem, as the city is very well served by public transport. There are many destinations, whether sports facilities or places to relax. As soon as you leave the city, you can take superb hiking trails, forest paths or vineyard tracks on foot or by mountain bike.

Vines play a major role in the surrounding area, producing high-quality wines. The city where the automobile, the tractor and the bicycle were born, Mannheim is also a beacon of gastronomy. This love of good food is reflected in several hundred restaurants serving local specialities and many other dishes. The population's historic multiculturalism adds a few exotic touches to both the cuisine and the way of life.
