Berghotel Hammersbach, Sure Hotel Collection by Best Western

We only stopped here for lunch whilst out walking through the local villages back to Garmisch; we never actually stayed at the hotel. The young ladies in their national costumes were very pleasant; their English was very good, with the odd thing I didn't understand. The choice of food and drinks was quite extensive and the setting beautiful. Considering the look of the hotel, the prices were very comparable to other less plus locations. Definitely would drop in again if we walk in the area again.

The highlight of the hotel is its location. Any hotel that is at the base of a mountain like Alpspitze is blessed with fantastic views from outside the rooms. The rest of the hotel is comfortable, while a bit dated. The beds are quite comfortable, and the rooms are an average size for a hotel—we had no problem having a rollaway in our room for our 15-year old. The rest of the furnishings in the room, though were old and scratched. The carpet is worn as are the bathroom fixtures, but everything seemed clean. We were in the main building on the second floor and had a good size balcony with a fantastic view of the mountain. There is not air conditioning, but we left our balcony door open for a while to cool things down and we were fine. Parking is a pain because there's not enough of it. Make sure you find out all the places you can park otherwise you'll have a long hike despite paying for the parking. The free buffet breakfast was good with a large selection of options—eggs prepared different ways, meats (hot and cold), cheese, beans, fruits, yogurts, a huge assortment of bread and jams, and coffee, espresso and tea. Again, the location with convenience to area attractions and views from the rooms are the highlight!

Family ski trip to this lovely hotel. Very friendly staff, spacious rooms, great selection and service in the restaurant with breakfast particularly good. Facilities are brilliant, including ski hire available on site, boot room, pool (although water temp was quite cold), gym and sauna. Bar is cosy but can get busy at peak times- ask to reserve a table. An added bonus for Christmas was the outside bar from 5-6 every evening for mulled wine around a fire pit. The location and area is lovely. The station is on the doorstep for local trains but times can be erratic. Grainau is a short scenic walk with a few restaurants/ shops. Hammersbach village itself is quiet but accessible by train to ski lifts/ ski bars and the main town Garmisch by train in approx 20 mins. Note the trains stop early evening. A car may be useful but at peak ski/holiday periods main roads were busy. Overall would recommend the hotel and area - we had a fantastic time.

The worst hotel experience ⚠️ The cost of any service must be clearly communicated at the beginning of the stay. It is unacceptable to present a bill for charges that were never clearly explained or agreed upon from the start. We made a mistake with the booking dates, and when we arrived at the hotel the receptionist said, “No problem, I'll change it,” without mentioning any additional cost at any point. Our entire stay had already been fully paid through Booking.com. At checkout, we were suddenly presented with a bill. They charged us the difference in dates and for the most expensive room in the hotel (according to Booking prices, we do not book that room) and even included parking for two nights, despite the fact that we never arrived by car. The receipt was provided only in German, making it very difficult for an English-speaking guest to understand the charges. When we complained, Monika Fiedler and Julia at reception were extremely rude. They admitted that the mistake was the hotel's fault (saying the employee who checked us in was “still learning”), yet they presented us with a bill of 360 euros and then “offered” to round it down to 300 euros, as if they were doing us a favor. This made it clear they were taking advantage of us and trying to charge us for something that was not justified or clarified from the beggining. As we were about to miss our train to our next destination, we were left with no choice but to pay the 300 euros they charged us. Additionally, one morning at 7:30 AM, someone tried to open our room door with a key while we were still sleeping. At reception, we were told it was housekeeping and they admitted they should not have attempted to enter without knocking. Overall, we were treated dishonestly from start to finish. Poor customer service, pressure tactics, and no transparency. I do not recommend this hotel at all.

We stayed for a weekend in September in stunning weather - 28' My wife and I had a lovely room in the main hotel - comfy bed, very nice bath/shower room and an outstanding view down the valley from our balcony. Our daughter's family had a family room (one room with a double and a living room with a double sofa bed) with a nice shower room. The main hotel and one of the satellite blocks had underground access to the stunning pool and spa centre but our family's block did not - this meant a walk along the road in the nice robes and slippers (not something you would want to do in winter!!!). The hotel is situated right next to the bus stop and funicular railway station. There are delightful walks right from the hotel, both upwards (a bit too strenuous for us) and through the local fields to nearby hamlets and cable car stations. Our only complaint was how the sunny terrace was run. Getting someone to take your order was difficult (“not my table, I will ask a colleague to serve you”). In the end I had to physically grab a pleasant young waiter and just insist he took our order. The same happened when I wanted to pay. The self service breakfast though was superb with something for everyone from fussy youngsters to picky oldies. We visited Zugspitze mountain (eye watering expensive but well worth it) - use the train or bus to Ebesee (gorgeous walk but very crowded) and get the cable car to the summit - don't forget to get your passport stamped when you visit the Austrian part😃. The Dahlmeyer restaurant was good and thank you to the waitress who allowed our boys to eat their food from the self service in the restaurant. All in all a super family resort hotel with friendly reception staff (thank you for the recommendation of the outstanding Toni Restaurant, a pleasant half hour stroll away).

Very clean and comfortable room that was quite spacious. The room had a couch and table. We were right against the creek so no need for me to use my white noise app! The breakfast was amazing with a huge variety of meats and cheeses, as well as breads, jams, etc. Sadly the weather was bad and we didn't get to hike or visit Zugspitze. I hope we can go back someday and enjoy the area.

Pleasant stay in the hotel with its wonderful surroundings ! We ate dinner there every day and we were very satisfied - nice staff, too. Clean rooms - big swimming pool with very long opening hours.

The main lodge building has charm, but the satellite building where we stayed did not. There were lines at reception, so it was difficult to get advice on the area; breakfast was crowded, and we had to wait for a table; and the hotel is at least a 20 minute walk from town (meaning you either need to drive for dinner or pay nearly 30 EUR per person for a buffet dinner). We paid 200 euro a night for a room, and the value we got in return did not match this price point. The location near the Hammersklamm hike is convenient, and you can see the mountains from some of the rooms (ours had this view but over a parking lot).

If you want to combine active and passive vacation - this is a perfect place for it! It is a beautiful area with many opportunities for walking and hiking. And at the same time the Wellness area in the Hotel is really nice - with lots of saunas and a swimming pool. PS It was the best breakfast I have ever had at the hotel!
