Best Western Plus Royal Oak Hotel

Hotel is out of town and OK for a 1 night stop. we drove in in the evening then straight out after breakfast the next day. Room had a lot of brown decor! Plenty of free parking. There was no dinner served at the hotel but an excellent steak bar opposite. Breakfast was a buffet with a reasonable choice.

This hotel is a good location with a lot to do, and a staff able to advise you. We liked the breakfast and evening happy hour . Room had a good view of the pool, and everything in the room worked well. The best part was the welcome we felt. You may pay a little more here but AAA discount helps. I give this a grade A hotel.

Stephanie in reservations and Juan at the front desk are fabulous! These two displayed amazing hospitality service. They were patient and so sweet. They made my experience very memorable and will definitely be coming back.

We stayed 2 nights in a ground floor unit facing the road, no road noise - was very quiet. Good facilities, they helped us with laundry service. An excellent breakfast was provided, we travelled with friends and wanted adjourning rooms, this was no trouble for them. Nothing was an issue for staff at reception, it was a holiday weekend so a tad expensive. We would recommend this hotel / motel.

We had a reasonable experience at the Best Western Plus Royal Oak hotel--service was very friendly, they accept dogs and have a wonderful fenced in dog area in the back for dogs, and breakfast was pretty good. We probably won't stay again though because the hotel is a tad dated and dark, and there was a horrible fly problem at night where our doors were infested with flies which inevitably swarmed into the room whenever you opened the door. This probably just affected the units facing the back park--request a room facing the street or parking lot and then this would be a better experience.

Check in was easy and Stephanie at the front desk was a pleasure. The front lobby has coffee etc available. Our room was nice. The bed could have been more comfortable. There was a slight funky smell in general in the room and hallway. I think it may be because they are close to the ocean. Once we got the air conditioner going in the room, we didn't notice it anymore. There is a nice fenced in dog run on the upper left corner of the property. It is well lit at night as well. The breakfast was very nice with some extra touches of cut fruit and cheese and salsa for the eggs. Plenty of restaurant choices are nearby for dinner.

Drove up from Bay Area to catch another Reggae Show at Avila Beach Golf Resort. Lodging was so expensive close to the event so we decided on stay in San Luis Obispo at the BW Royal Oak which was about 15 minutes away. Nice hotel, quick easy check in. Close to lots of eateries and about 15 minutes from the ocean. Would definitely stay there again. On a side note....I do know they allow pets which is great, however the elevator totally smelled like dog pee. Too lazy to take the stairs so we just dealt with it...otherwise great stay...oh fresh coffee all and night in lobby....we didn't use the breakfast coupons so can't comment on the breakfast!

We really enjoyed our staff with our furry friend...it helps when you are on business to bring your dog. There is a great dog park just behind the hotel which is fabulous. Hotel has a very friendly staff.

Very clean and new. Comfortable beds. Enjoyed a good breakfast in a large breakfast area. Highly recommend. Parking lot was pretty full when we got back around 11pm, but we did find a spot on the other side. Pool area looked very inviting, we did not have time to take advantage of it. Staff was helpful with directions. We had a great stay.

Good, pet friendly hotel. Nice little fenced in dog exercise area in rear of hotel. Pet fee is $15. Free parking. Nice pool and guest laundry. Weird access to room - all trollies for luggage are in lobby and most of hotel is very inaccessible to lobby. Room was very large with a balcony. Lots of food options across the street including a grocery store. Great park and dog park right next to the hotel.

Stayed for 1 night luckily. Was not informed of any works or disturbance when we checked in. Offered room 318 which is towards the rear. The workmen were finishing off when we arrived so was not aware of the level of noise they had been making. Woken at 8:30 by banging and setting up. By 9 am the noise levels were incredible. Got up and had a look but couldn't even exit the room due to ladders and trolleys. Complained to reception who lied, saying they were not aware of the works...... there is a storage container in the carpark for the materials being used in the hotel. Shocking service and attitude towards a complaint. Needless to say wont be staying again. Rated as 1 as you can't leave 0.

This was one of the best Best Westerns iv'e stayed at and i have stayed at a lot all around the country. Great balcony over looking the pool are. Room was real nice. Big breakfast area. great restaurants very close.

Right next to the Madonna Inn, just off freeway. Short drives to downtown area, beaches, etc... Room was on the smaller side, but comfortable, clean and had a balcony. Our building did not have an elevator, there was a ramp. The building with the office does have an elevator, be sure to call and request that building if you need an elevator. For us, not a problem! Would come again!

My wife and I made a last-minute trip to San Luis Obispo, and made last-minute reservations here. I had read several of the negative reviews, which seemed to pick trivial nits. Our experience was perfect. The front desk staff person (I think her name was Stephanie?) was very friendly and professional. It appears that the hotel has recently had a “refresh.” The lobby was neat and clean, our room was clean and looked great. Although we didn't have time to use the pool, it also looked very nice. Breakfast was included (so was WiFi) and had everything you would usually expect from a breakfast-included hotel. All in all, our last-minute stay was seamless, and we would definitely stay here again.

The hotel has an old feel to it. There are some updates but still feels outdated. The setup is confusing as the rooms are in separate corridors. There was a sliding glass door on ground level which made me a little nervous.

This hotel was really nice, clean with large rooms, large comfortable beds. There was a sliding patio door with a small patio. A good size fridge that was spotless a modern clean ensuite with a powerful shower. Very quiet no noise at all. A swimming pool and a large car park. The staff were friendly and helpful the reception area all had a large bowl of fresh fruit and cookies for the guest to help themselves. A complimentary breakfast was all provided. Across the road was the Madonna Mall please of shops/placed to eat to wander round, also spotless. When we asked at the reception if they could recommend a nice place to eat they did not disappoint and even gave us a 10% off voucher. I would certainly go there again and would recommend to anybody.

This is a best western so don't expect exotic accommodations. It is perfect for a place to sleep while still being close to the main drag. The free breakfast is okay. The on-site pool is also okay. It is great for freeway access. Plus there is a market and other shops just across the street. All in all it's a good spot considering the alternatives. We stayed once at Motel 6 and this was so much better. I recommend this for family accommodations.

Our third stay at BW in San Luis Obispo and it did not disappoint. The courteous staff, the room, and especially the value were all excellent. We have recommended BW to our friends and would recommend it to anyone who needs a comfortable place to stay at a very reasonable rate.

You just can't beat staying at a BW. We have been on Route 66 from Chicago and this is our 10th BW Hotel stay along the Route. They all stay pretty consistent with room cleanliness and breakfast quality. You really can't go wrong. I definitely give it two ???? up.

The room was decent but had a musty odor. The air conditioner did not work particularly well which made the room really uncomfortable to sleep in. The location was fine and the staff was professional.

We've stayed at this hotel before and we are never let down. Stephanie at the front desk is welcoming and helpful, and always willing to offer assistance. The rooms are always clean and updated, and the food at the breakfast bar is fresh. For the money this is a great value to either business travelers or families. the pool and hot tub are nice and well cared for and the fitness center is also.

I visited the property for work. I had a great room with a view of the pool and hot tub, The breakfast was well stocked and had many choices. Juan and Chase checked me in. They and all staff I saw were wonderful

Staff was very helpful. They addressed all my questions. Staff also provided helpful tips for our stay. We stayed at 3 different locations and staff at all three locations were excellent. We used our points for two locations.

I have stayed at the Royal Oaks many times over a ten year period. The property is well maintained. In-room WIFI is good. Having a microwave and mini refrigerator is great.It is within easy walking distance of restaurants and shopping. Maybe four minutes from downtown San Luis Obispo.

Very comfortable beds, nice room, friendly staff, always happy to stay in a Best Western Hotel. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family. In addition, the location was convenient for my needs.

This hotel is ideally located just off the 101. Easy trip to downtown SLO. No real restaurants around, save for the Madonna Inn coffee shop and a Chipotle across the street. Also there is a Ralphs super market nearby. Breakfast room was top-notch, with the usual items offered (cereal, eggs, etc). I know this is a small item, but I appreciated that our room was stocked with real glassware instead of disposable plastic!

We had a pool view room with outside patio, refrigerator, king bed. I usually don't sleep well the first night of a trip, but I had an excellent night of sleep the first night. The hot breakfast was decent, and the fresh fruit was wonderful. The staff was friendly and helpful, the property well maintained, can't ask for much more from a hotel.

My son had a meet in SLO Sunday morning so we needed a place to stay the night before and Best Western fit the bill. Located only 3.5 miles from our venue it was perfect. Hotel was easy to find an located across the street from Ralph's grocery, McDonald's & Chipotle (from what I could see) and next door to IHOP. Unfortunately it rained all day but we visited to downtown area where the mission is and it was less than 10 mins away. Upon check in the reception was warm & friendly. Our room was nice and clean, had all the amenities we needed and more. I was impressed that along with the usual soap, shampoo/conditioner there was a kit with cotton balls, Q tips, make-up remover cloth & floss! How nice! We had a hidden microwave on top of the fridge which is handy with kids and leftovers. I slept surprisingly well and had a voucher for breakfast across the way in the morning. The usuals, make your own waffle, eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, cereal, yogurt, toast. Selection was better than most but was still meh in terms of taste but it's free. To be expected. Parking was ample & free which again, a PLUS. Definitely a great place to stay if in SLO and want to be centrally located.

My family and I recently went on a weekend getaway from Monterey south back to LA. In our travels we didn't plan to stay at San Luis Obispo, needless to say, we didn't have reservation for a hotel. Hence our arrival at Best Western Plus Royal Oaks. Upon arrival the front desk person was helping another couple. You can sense his HOSPITALITY & sincere desire to help them. This put me at ease & hoped that he would take care of us well. His name is Juan T He immediately greeted us with a SMILE and asked what we needed. He listened and booked the best room for us and what we had hoped for. After the whole process was done, he offered options for us to eat, places to stop in for other necessities. He made sure we were familiar with our surroundings to have a good short stay here in SLO. Also, the lady that helped us in the pool area for towels & brought us our cot was great. This place have pleasant people, great location, nice amenities and clean room. Thank you very much Best Western Royal Oaks.

Standard fare for Best Western. Well-maintained hotel, clean and comfortable beds. Large breakfast area located next-door in restaurant. Wide selection at breakfast. Good for short stay. Would have no problems staying again.

Check in was quick and easy with friendly staff. Room was spacious and comfortable with good size bathroom. Used the laundry and the back of the hotel was not as nice as the section we were in. The evening reception was very nice and we met some interesting people. Breakfast was also pretty good so overall a good stay.

Great property. Nice pool (be better if heated) and Spa. Pet friendly is great. Beds were wonderful. Wish we could have turned off the light over our patio so we could leave the curtains open for the pool view at night.

We always stay here when we visit Paso Wine Country. It is affordable, very clean, and convenient to all the wineries. The beds are comfortable and the adjoining restaurant serves delicious breakfast at a discount.

My wife and I stayed at the BW Royal Oak this last weekend (Jan 19 and 20). We chose the hotel because we were traveling with our two dogs, and we wanted a dog friendly hotel for our stay in SLO. We found this Best Western hotel extremely accommodating for having your pet stay with you in your room. The hotel had an enclosed dog run equipped with 'pick up' bags that is easily accessible and kept clean. The refreshing bonus was the service staff from the front desk to food service and housekeeping could not have been more friendly and helpful. They were terrific all the way around. The room was nice appointed, the bed was somewhat hard but comfortable and the room was large enough to put up portable dog crates without tripping over them. The hotel offers a free breakfast package, and while the scrambled eggs were powdered (but tasted alright), the spread included breakfast meats and fresh fruit that were pretty good. Overall, I give this hotel a 5 star rating.

This was our 1st stay here. The staff is very courteous and consciencious. Great location on Madonna Rd. across the street from mall and 1 block from freeway. Breakfast better than most....sausage patties and REAL eggs (not powdered). Pet friendly with a gated pet area for safety. Clean and attractive and rooms are Quite large with balconies.

Hotel was easy to get to off hwy 101. There are a number of restaurants in walking distance and some good ones within a short drive. The pet fee is $15 and there is a park next door for dog walking. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Dad and I took a trip to the SLO/Edna Valley to enjoy the tastes and sights of the area. I am so glad that I booked with Best Western. Not only was a satisfied with the room but really enjoyed the complimentary breakfast and happy hour they provided for guests. The staff were also very attentive to our needs, upgraded the room free of charge, and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. A special thank you to Stephanie who went above and beyond.

Good location easy on off freeway. Across street from outdoor shopping area. Very clean and well kept. Friendly staff. Very nice and well maintained pool and hot tub. Nice dog run area Excellent breakfast.

A very nice motel, and a haven with clean air during the Thomas Fire (12/17). The front desk staff were all very friendly and helpful, providing a map to help us get around town.The room was nice and quiet (except for an occasional loud sound of water running), and I thought the beds were nice and comfy! Breakfast was good, but got a bit "old" after 18 days. As in many motels the maids primary language is Spanish, but we were always able to make our needs known. Plus, you get a 20% discount at the IHOP next door by showing your room key!

We stayed at this hotel on our trip to Hearst Castle. It is close to downtown SLO and about 45 min from the Castle. It was comfortable and clean. Everything was in working order including Wi-Fi. Staff very friendly and professional. Breakfast included all the continental stuff and eggs, sausage, bacon and a waffle station. And if the free breakfast doesn't do it for you it's next door to an Ihop and Denny's. So it was a great value for a great stay. Would stay here again.

Only stayed here one night the week after Christmas. Planned to do a day trip to Cambria and Morro Bay which are less than an hours drive up Hwy 1. Location is close to the Madonna Inn and the price seems much higher at $170/nite using my AAA card than the $90/nite I paid way down in Santa Maria. I also picked a Thursday because I wanted to visit the ever popular SLO Farmers Market with it's award winning BBQ. I only had 3 issues with my room of which 1 I was able to fix on my own. A previous guest turned off the mini frig and I didn't notice this til 6 hours in. I had diary and food products in there which would have gone bad. Additionally my room has a connecting door to the room next to it and it's paper thin. You could clearly hear every conversation in that room especially when they came back at midnite and others are trying to sleep. The TV remote didn't work from a sitting position in bed. Had the clerk change the batteries but still a problem. I think the little sensor on the TV is broken. I didn't eat the free breakfast so no comment on that but the little "Happy Hour" at 6pm next to the lobby was nice with a choice of chips, salsa, meat, and cheese snacks plus 4 choices of wine. Stephanie checked me in and out and very helpful and friendly. Also dealt with Ingamar....he's good too. The bed was great and the room had a balcony with a view of the IHOP next door. If I ever come back to the area I might stay again depending upon the rate. I was told the off season price is $100/nite.

Stayed for a single night to attend a wedding for my niece. We found the hotel to be clean, freshly painted, and nicely detailed. The included breakfast the next morning was great; waffles, eggs, bacon and breads/cereals and juices. Good coffee! Located next to Madonna Inn and a quick ride or Uber into downtown SLO. The best thing was the extraordinary check in-a very pleasant young lady really made it a breeze with her charming banter. I'd definitely go back. I requested a quiet upper unit and received the top unit in the back building. Nice work BW!

We stayed at the SLO BW and would do so again. Location close to the downtown but not in downtown and quiet. Close to grocery, Saturday farmer's market, easy access to beaches. Staff very nice. Breakfast with nice array of choices. Happy with choice of this BW.

We strolled into town and were pleasantly surprised when arriving and feeling the wonderful greeting. Tired, but welcomed with a smile and a very helpful staff. The room was magnificent with a clean feel and spacious. We will be back!

BW is my usual choice when on the road. On this trip with a girlfriend, we were getting off 101 at the Madonna Inn exit and heading to a nearby park. We knew we'd need a motel later for the night and figured we'd pull out our iPhones and look at the options. Then, bingo, there was this Best Western right on the way to the park. We pulled in, marched into the office, and promptly got a room to share. It's a very nice property. The room was well appointed and clean--and also quiet, even though the street traffic can be busy. It was easy for us to get to a restaurant downtown for dinner. The breakfast was okay, not the best I've seen, but the coffee was good. Well rested, we were ready to go.

I can't say enough good things about the experience I had here. I, like many other guests at the time, was fleeing the wildfires in the Santa Barbara area. Evacuating is never fun, but all of the staff were incredibly welcoming and accommodating. Juan at the front desk helped me extend my reservation multiple times and was always knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to help. Also, I was traveling alone with my dog, which can make it hard to do things like access the breakfast area. However, the women staffing breakfast went out of their way to either make me a plate of food to take elsewhere or to hold my dog briefly while I grabbed some food. Really great staff who go above and beyond. Also, no hotel will be completely dog friendly, but this is one of the dog friendliest hotels I've ever been to. It's adjacent to a large park with a good off-leash area, there are well-lit sidewalks for walking at night, and has a sizable pet relief area in the back. It's also across the street from a shopping center with a Petco and multiple fast-casual restaurants (Panera, Chipotle, etc) with dog-friendly patios.

Great clean central location for the business needs in San Luis Obispo. A perfect location for all my needs on the central coast for business. A beautiful hotel inside and out. Nice amenities with pool and close to restaurants.

This hotel is well setup. The rooms have balconies with screen doors for good ventilation. Access from your car is very good. They have a pot of coffee in the lobby all the time. Staff is friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and comfortable. I definately felt like a valued guest when I stayed here.

Clean and quiet. Quaint and comfortable rooms. Great central location to restaurants, shops, and more. Excellent attitude by all staff members. Relaxing breakfast area with good quality food. The attendant at breakfast was very polite and helpful.

Our stay began with a very pleasant check in from Chase. We had a few preferences which he handled . The TV set-up was simple to figure out which isn't always the case for us non-techies. The room was spotless and most comfortable. Honestly the stay could not have been more pleasant.

The rooms were very clean.. the location is convenient to major highways for travel and shopping centers for retail therapy.. nice variety of hot breakfast foods.. the staff was friendly and helpful.. It was a great experience and I'd happily stay at this Best Western again :)

I booked this hotel months in advance through a Priceline bid. When we (wife and 2 kids) arrived to find a room with only one double bed, the front desk staff switched us, without any hassle whatsoever, to a room with two queen beds. The room was clean and well maintained. The breakfast is probably the best hotel breakfast we have ever experienced; the space was immaculate and the food was high quality with plenty of variety. If we ever need a hotel in San Luis Obispo again, I hope to stay here.

I highly recommend this Best Western. The staff are so professional, polite, and helpful. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, the pool area is truly lovely, the pool heated and sparkling clean. Close to everything and easy access to the freeway. With an impressive selection at the hot breakfast buffet, this hotel is one of the best values for the quality of the experience I have found. Oh yes, and 12 pm checkout!! I will be back!

During check in and out, there is no hassle and even the staff during breakfast were friendly and accommodating. The room is almost perfect rating except for one bath towel which is a little bit dirty.

This is a great place in general but the fact they are pet-friendly is a bonus. We have stayed at this specific location many times and have never had anything but amazing service and comfort during our stay.

Nice having glasses, rather than plastic, for drinking. Nice view of the pool area. All Rooms with balconies. Spacious, clean and reasonable. Good location to other attractions, beach etc. Would stay here again and will tell others.

this hotel is a really nice place to stay!! Very clean rooms, nice decor and the breakfast is also better as in the other places we stayed at on our trip through Arizona and California. Easy access from the 101 freeway. When I'm in the area again, I'll definetely stay here again!

This is a very nice property. Rooms have microwave, refrigerator, nice chair w/ottoman. Breakfast very good. Scrambled eggs, sausage, make your own waffles, juice, toast, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, pastries. All very fresh and very good. Visiting family in the area and always stay here.

The room was extremely comfortable. It was very well lighted. The amenities the room offered were excellent. The breakfast they served was also very very good. I would definitely recommend this Best Western to friends and family.

Bed was comfortable, everything was clean and the staff very professional and helpful. Quiet yet Close to Starbucks and access to 101. Bathroom was clean, good towels and for a business trips it was perfect, as the price was reasonable for the area.

Stayed here for four nights on a visit to wine country and was really impressed. Compared to the Embassy Suites down the street, this hotel is an incredibly good value! The property was very clean, the staff was among the friendliest I've ever encountered at a hotel, and there are plenty of restaurants, shops, and a park within easy walking distance. Everything in our room worked although the room seemed a little dark, even with all the lights on. The fridge, microwave and real coffee mugs were a nice touch. The wifi was plenty fast, and we really enjoyed the balcony. We were on the top floor and didn't have any issues with noise, the blackout curtains worked REALLY well, and the beds were comfortable enough to get a good night's sleep. Plenty of hot water in the shower, although the temperature fluctuated more than usual during an average shower, and the exhaust fan in the bathroom worked well. Breakfast was good quality but repetitive. There was lots to choose from, but after four days you're tired of the same sausage and eggs every single day. It seems like most hotels rotate their hot items from day to day. On the plus side, the breakfast area is huge and never seemed crowded, even with a full hotel. The free happy hour was great, and much more enjoyable with better quality snacks/drinks than the "mad rush for free booze" that passes for a happy hour at the Embassy Suites! Be aware that if you don't pay extra for a pool view, your room will have a view of either a parking lot or a rock wall. Overall this was a fantastic hotel and I'd gladly stay here again.

Hotel was dated, but very clean and the staff were especially friendly. The towels were new and fluffy, and they had body wash in addition to the soap and shampoo. This hotel offered a 2-hour happy hour with complimentary beer, wine and snacks.

After a long drive, this hotel was a very pleasant oasis. Close to the freeway, easy to find, very clean, comfortable bed, great staff from registration desk to breakfast servers...everyone. Wish I had more energy upon arrival as a dip in the beautiful pool would have been great. Was just too tired and the bed was so comfy! All this for a terrific price!

We stayed in five different Best Western Plus hotels on a trip to California, and this one was the best in every way -- comfort, service, decor, breakfast. very convenient if driving the Pacific Coast Highway.

Gorgeous hotel, room faced the pool area. Delicious free breakfast . Room was gorgeous and comfortable, very clean big bathroom . Frig, microwave and 2 free waters . Bathroom bath items smelled really nice .

This was our first stay at this hotel for "move in" weekend at Cal Poly. The staff was friendly, the room was clean and the pool was refreshing. Conveniently located - we're staying here again next month!

I loved the hotel over all. The happy hour was great. I liked the pool and spa. The fitness center worked out well. I walked all over the place from the hotel. I would recommend this place to everyone. You will not be disappointed. The employees are real nice.

The check in was fast. Room was very nice, located next to pool. Breakfast is included. We were there on Sunday breakfast for bacon day. The breakfast included make your own waffles and fresh fruit. After breakfast we walked around Laguna Lake. A very pleasant stay.

Very easy to find, could not see from the freeway, however once onto the Madonna Inn off ramp the sign was visible. Best customer service at any hotel. Facility is very clean, and the complimentary breakfast offers many options. Extremely happy with our stay.

Stayed two nights and wish we hadn't. Unless you want to drive or get a cab there is nowhere nearby to eat, other than fast food chains. Breakfast was plastic knives and forks and paper plates, food not too bad. Room was ok but would not stay again.

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night on our way to San Francisco. The front desk staff were very friendly when we arrived. Something that I found very nice was they have a happy hour for the guests and offer 2 complimentary beverages (beer or wine) with snacks...I have never come across that and thought how very nice that was. They also offer complimentary breakfast and it's very good. The rooms were very clean & comfortable. There are a few restaurants within walking distance and it was about a 5 min drive to the gorgeous downtown area where there are plenty shops & restaurants. GREAT HOTEL and we would definitely stay here again

Wow! I really had a great time here! Lots of choices for dinner - I chose Panera Bread within walking distance across the street. I took the dog for a walk at Laguna Lake, also within walking distance. Best of all - the queen bed was extremely comfortable & the curtains blocked out the light - I slept like a baby! The staff were all very riendly and made my little dog & me feel at home. I would definitely stay here again.

Price was fair but should be run of house and not more costly for a pool view. The happy hour was nothing much. Stale chips and crackers. Staff was friendly and helpful. Cookies were good!! Pool was clean but should be more heated.

Overall great 9 of 10 stars! The manager Chase was awesome! He went out of his way to help us with the only issue, the wifi, which wouldn't connect to my laptop. He even came to our room and troubleshot it and contacted support. Eventually he got it working! Wow! No manager has ever done that, his customer support and service was 11 out of 10!! The hotel was very clean, and comfortable. The mattresses were the best we've ever slept on!! I need to get the name of the mattress brand! I would stay here again in a heartbeat! Thank you Chase for great customer service and care! He is a diamond in the rough!

This hotel is is a very nice quiet location. It was easily accessible. I think it might be relatively new as the address was not in my GPS that was just updated. It was very clean and the room we stayed it was spacious. Bathroom was clean all everything worked properly while we were there. Breakfast was in a building behind an ihop next door. They had a traditional breakfast eggs, toast, cereal, pancakes (I think I remember seeing) yogurt and sausage. I just wished they had bacon but it was very good. We will definitely stay here again if we have the opportunity.

This Best Western was very nice, comfortable bed, clean rooms, and friendly staff. A nice view of the pool and a quiet room at the rear of the property away from the Main Street. Breakfast was so so, could have been better.

A great hotel right off the highway. Dog friendly with a small dog park. Hotel has a great pool for relaxing or step out onto your balcony and read the morning paper. Hotel is near the Madonna inn and shopping across the street. In the rooms they all have a desk and fresh remote in a bag!! Beds have extra pillows and comfortable mattress. Free breakfast is available or a discount when you show your room key at IHOP next door.

This is a great hotel with great amenities. They serve a full breakfast buffet complete with eggs, sausage, bacon, waffles, fruit and a variety of breads and muffins. The pool and Jacuzzi is easily accessible and convenient. Parking is generous and free. Location is great. We've met several guests from many European countries( Italy, Germany, Austria) staying here.

We spent a night at the Royal Oak Hotel enroute to Carmel.The check in was swift & the room was impeccable.Apples in the lobby & happy hour mondays to fridays for Best western members,Breakfast was included & was good but nothing elaborate.Shopping mall opposite incl a supermarket & restaurants

The hotel was nicely appointed, clean and included breakfast. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. We were there as a family group attending a nearby wedding Although our four rooms were booked individually they were located close together.

I stay at Best Western almost exclusively and I find it a bit frustrating that there seems to be no standard in terms of location. Some are very nice and some leave a lot to be desired. This location is OK (no complaints), but certainly not that great for the area. The redeeming aspect is the front desk manager Chase was super helpful and went out of his way to give us some information on wine tasting in the area. They have a dog run which seems cool, really the whole city seems dog friendly.

So i attended a wedding with my girfriend at the madonna Inn. Originally we had gotten rooms at the said venue but turns out my significant other booked the room for the wrong weekend and they were completely sold out. Luckily the BestWestern right around the corner had rooms available so that was awesome.

We brought our small dog on this trip and found BW Plus Royal Oak ideal for this purpose. They gave us a ground floor room (so convenient -- our last hotel gave us a 5th floor room, ugh!). The room was clean and comfortable and had a nice balcony. On the property is an enclosed and lighted dog area and within walking distance is an amazing lake-side dog park. Across the street were many restaurants with patio dining. The hotel breakfast was standard, but the fruit was actually ripe and delicious. Well done Best Western!

The staff was very nice but the breakfast quality has gone down. They seem to be using the cheapest products and the coffee was week. There was a nice balcony but it could have been cleaner. The lobby was extremely clean and well organized.

The first time we stayed here was for the San Luis Obispo Marathon a couple of years ago and it was the perfect location for that. Walking distance to the expo, and the finish line. Recently I stayed there again to run a 5K in Pismo Beach, and it was perfect for that too. Great place to stay when visiting San Luis Obispo for a run!

I recently stayed at the Royal Oak as I have throughout the past 20 years. The property has been continuously improved and updated and is my primary choice when visiting this wonderful city. The service of the staff is exceptional, and the amenities of the hotel have been continuously upgraded to enhance the value of my stay. It has one of the best pool areas of any hotel I have stayed in and is very price competitive to other properties in the area. My future stays will continue to be at this lovely property.

This was the best hotel of the 5 we stayed in during a 10 day trip. It is difficult to get much for your money in a moderate price range but this hotel was very good. The hotel was in a convenient location, was clean, had updated rooms, a good breakfast and a nice happy hour drink with cheese and crackers for Best Western members.

The hotel in over all was very good. Very clean and daily renovated although I think the main building the room are all renovated and with refrigerator but not the side that I was in. The mattress was very confortable as well as the pillows and that is very important to me. There are lots of restaurants in the area within walking distance . The front desk personnel was very friendly and we checked in quickly .I would definitely recommend this hotel

Lovely flowers, shrubs, and trees on the grounds, clean rooms, large flat screen TV, microwave and refrigerator in cabinet (very quiet), huge pool and hot tub with lots of pool chairs made for a pleasant 3 day stay. King Bed in our room 238, was Very Hard! Big breakfasts were served in a room behind the IHop restaurant next door--Filling but not gourmet. Parking in the evening was difficult. Dogs were allowed in most rooms and we came across a large raccoon in the walkway. Starbucks, shopping, and McDonalds across the street. I would stay here again.

we stayed as a family of 4 in a two queen bed room and had two dogs. There was plenty of room for everyone and a fenced doggy area for the daily needs of the pets. It was conveniently located to all the beaches and things we needed and wanted to see. I am a runner and the Laguna Lake, Madonna Hill and even the Madonna Shopping Center provided grate place to run before the excellent breakfast experience located right not he premises! Pool was heated but a little cold for us ( we are use to 90 degrees) but the hot tub was awesome. WE highly recommend to anyone looking. The staff was friendly and very well organized. Everything was clean and we worried because we do have dogs but we are meticulous so we were glad to see it didn't 'smell' or appear to be a 'doggie daycare' setting........very pleased.

Despite an issue with the booking, the BW employee found a quick solution to make sure we could rest for the night as expected on the first day of our road trip through 4 US states. The hotel was pretty good. Good breakfast too.

Love staying here. It's reasonable and they have a great breakfast. They are very clean and my daughter enjoys the pool!!! We really enjoyed our stay. They offered us a happy hour which consist of ur choice of wine/beer and some yummy snacks and dips!!!

Staff was great and offered us a secure spot to park our truck and trailer, nice happy hour with wine and cheese, nice breakfast. Overall great value and pleasant folks to deal with. I'll stay here again.

We spent the night of 7/17/17. The location was quite accessible, and the hotel and room were in great condition. The bed was very comfortable. The TV was large, but not high resolution,. The complimentary breakfast was excellent - one of the best in terms of selection and quality. Though I would have liked some yogurt. I would certainly stay at this hotel next time I am in San Luis Obispo, provided the rate was reasonable.

I have stayed here several times and I continue to get rooms with horrible views but this last visit was the worst...AC units and a brick wall. I was told if you want a view you need to purchase a room with a view, at $250 a night I'd appreciate a view.

Spent the night had free drinks and snacks for happy hour at the hotel lobby and in the morning free breakfast the food was great, make sure to have a waffle! Went for work with co worker and we both enjoyed it. This is our second year staying here, we will be back.

You can always depend on a level of cleanliness and customer service, but for us, the best part is that they are pet friendly. Everything is tops except the breakfast which is included with the room. Fast food at its worst, I'm afraid.

Stopped here for the night after a full day of driving. The staff was friendly and our room with a balcony overlooking the pool was clean & comfortable. The breakfast was great & we loved having coffee, fruit, water & cookies available in the lobby.

Great stop-over location while in CA. Good part of town, lots of food selections. Quiet, clean. NO ELEVATORS, be prepared for ramps or steps. Offered cookies at check-in. Beautiful swimming pool, if you are there for swimming.

My initial reason for choosing BW is its pet-friendly policy. However, I was not expecting this location to be so much nicer than the others! Stylish, well-maintained rooms, premises extremely clean throughout, friendly, helpful staff.

Husband and I been together for 24yrs but it was are 1st year Anniversary being married which we made it .(lol) The staff (Juan) who checked us in and the girls who setup the breakfast were all great and i would suggest anyway to stay her if they are ever in San Luis Obispo. Also, there is a great path behind the hotel to take early morning walks and Modonna Inn just a few blocks away which is great place to tour and have Steak dinner..

Very noisy no soundproofing walls or ceilings. The noise from each level could be clearly heard including people walking on the upper floor. Building is built into a hillside so parking is somewhat awkward for mildly handicapped. Staff is nice

Hotel smelled bad and was dirty. I was here for business and thankfully it was a short stay. I would not recommend using this place. I have notified our travel person to avoid using this facility ever again. We do a lot of traveling for training purposes and will not be utilizing this facility anymore.

This place is a solid choice that serves its purpose. It's clean, comfortable and conveniently located near Hwy 101. The staff was very nice and room was all that we needed. The breakfast was fresh and sufficient for us, (there's an IHOP next door if more is desired). Parking is adequate though oddly located for some rooms and accessing our room from the back side was a bit of a head scratcher, but we prevailed.

This BW hotel was extremely nice. We'd definitely stay here again! Conveniently located off the highway, lots of good choices to grab a bite close by, Our room was clean, it smelled fresh, had a comfortable bed & lots of great pillows too! Everything you'd need in a room they have thought to include. The breakfast offerings were good & displayed in an appetizing manner.

We only stayed here for one night, room was clean and great location for shops restaurants etc I would request an upper floor as we was kept up a lot of the night with banging from guests in the room above

They did it again, totally awesome stay with outstanding friendliness and attention. Each time we stay here we meet some really good people and they speak of the great staff like we do. The front desk greets us with complete kindness and professionalism asking if their is anything they can assist us with while at our stay. They provided us with local events and highlights that were going on while there. Help us in locating a deep sea fishing trip provider at a good cost. Always willing to help out if you need their assistance.

Stayed here for two nights while visiting San Luis Obispo. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice it is for a chain of this nature. We stayed at a BW (not Plus) in wine country a few months ago and this is far superior- and less money! Having indoor hallways is nice, as is 24 hour coffee. Coffee was good, too. Beds are comfortable, room is spacious and facility is well maintained. You can stay next door at the Madonna Inn, but why?

Can't say enough great things about all the pet-friendly hotels out there -- especially the Best Western chain. Rooms are strategically placed as close to 'duty' areas as possible (other hotels do NOT plan as well). Keep up the good work BW...

The experience was great. Naomi and Chase were friendly and very accommodating. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. Although we didn't have time to use it, the pool looked awesome. The complementary breakfast was also very good.

Hotel services and staff very good, but the hotel raised their room rates more than 2 1/2 times the norm because of the local college graduation. This type of decision is not ethical as far as I'm concerned, even though other hotels did the same. I will make other arrangements next time I go to a SLO graduation.

We really enjoyed our stay with the folks at Best Western SLO. They could not have been more accommodating. Would definitely stay again. The rooms were very clean and well appointed. Just loved the breakfast and the extra touches in the late afternoon (the cookies and cupcakes!)

I booked this hotel directly 3 months prior to our trip. This process was easy and the did not require credit card to hold room. They gave me a state government discount due to my husbands employment just by asking. I called them one week ahead of time to confirm reservation AND to confirm the lowest available rate. I was told that the rates had actually raised since I booked and I had been guaranteed a lower price than was available today with the same discount. I also called the day of the reservation to advise that we would not be checking in by 4 and offer a credit card to hold the room, they told me that was not necessary. We arrived at approximately 8:30 pm. One person was being helped and a group of senior aged ladies were in front of me. I heard the clerk (man with beard and glasses, reddish hair, no name tag) ask them if they had a reservation or not. They told him they did not, just stopped to see if they had a room available. There were 3 women that I saw (I think there was a 4th that stayed in car outside). He quoted them a rate of $161 per night. My room was reserved at the lowest rate available (ha) of $197. Same room: 2 queen/ 4 person. When it was my turn, the clerk pulled up my information and started the check in. I asked about what rate they had me down for and he confirmed it was $197. I asked why he had given the persons ahead of me a rate (same room/same amount of people) a quote for almost $40 more? He looked at me with blank look and stated they have no control over the internet rates. I told him I booked directly through the hotel. He looked at me, blank look on face, for several painful seconds. I asked him if my rate could be lowered to the rate he just quoted to the other party for the EXACT same room. He told me no. I asked to speak to a manager, was advised he was at break. I then asked him if I can cancel my reservation and check in as a walk in customer? He stared at me for a painful amount of time, not saying anything, just staring. Eventually he started typing on the computer. After probably 4-5 minutes of typing, he told me he had a rate of $169 for me. Still $8.00 higher (maybe a senior discount) than the previous customers, but much better than it was. Overall, the room was fine (419), clean and adequate, breakfast was great. All other staff friendly and helpful. I would not return to this hotel because I feel like that was very bad business practice to charge your guests,(especially who call ahead, make reservations, ask for discounts etc) that much more a night than you do walk-in's. And then to delay, stare, and act completely put out when questioned about the discrepancy is unacceptable as far as I am concerned.

The room amenities and comfort were nice, but the price seemed to be a bit high even after our discount. The staff was helpful and courteous. It is a nice place to stay especially if you are visiting the college.

Nice clean hotel, we went to members wine and cheese and it was very good, large comfortable bed and room. Pet friendly hotel. Average breakfast. Other restaurants within walking distance. Didn't use pool or gym.

This is a convenient location in SLO. A short drive to Cal Poly or Downtown, just down the street from the Madonna Inn and across from a large shopping center. My wife and I stayed the weekend of May 19-21st, visiting our daughter who is a Cal Poly student. In past visits, we have stayed at the Embassy Suites, Courtyard, Quality Suites and Hampton Inn in SLO but we seem to get the best rates here. The room seemed recently remodeled and had a very comfortable bed. The free breakfast is served in a room in the back of the IHOP restaurant, which is next door to the hotel. The free breakfast was fine for us but I suppose if you want something more you could go to IHOP where your room key will get you a discount.

Stayed two days at this hotel and are very glad we did. Very clean and nicely decorated rooms. Free WiFi and a very nice complimentary breakfast. Kudos to the staff for keeping the dining area clean and replenished. Comfortable bed and bedding. Just a really nice lodging experience that offered solid value. I'd definitely recommend this hotel to anyone needing lodging in San Luis Obispo.

If you are visiting SLO area this is a great hotel. The price was good and check in was a breeze. I asked and received a lovely room off the elevator. The only downfall is that if you need an elevator you have to be put into a room on the elevator side. The other section is only stairs. I was surprised that they had a little "Happy Hour" with beer and wine. No restaurant, but plenty around.

This is where my friend and I stay when we want a getaway up the coast to San Luis Obispo. It's conveniently located right off the 101 freeway. Practically next door to the Madonna Inn. Trendy downtown SLO is a short ride down the road. Across the street is a shopping center with a supermarket and some fun stores and several eateries. And right up the road is our favorite SLO attraction - the Sunset Drive-in! The hotel is always clean and the rooms are, too. And believe me, I give my hotel rooms the white glove test. (I have a thing about hair in the bathroom and there was none here.) But that is typical here - the rooms are always clean. The free breakfast is okay. And they typically let us check in early. Staff is courteous. No complaints at all. And my friend is much pickier than I am.

The good an the bad: Very good breakfast - lots of table room, good selection of food, etc. Rooms was very nice - clean, well appointed, everything worked. Had a wine reception for those whom were BW rewards members. Good location for exploring this area. The BAD: Avoid the 300 rooms in the back building. The floor (our ceiling) creaked as the people above walked in their room. We could actually trace their location as they walked. Woke us up at night as someone walked to the bathroom. People in our party were on that floor (not directly above us) and said their floor creaked as they walked around the room, so I assume the problem exists in the entire building. People in our group but not in our building had no such issues. This is the reason for the "poor" rating for sleep quality. Otherwise, it's a great choice.

This has been our "go to" hotel since our son started school at Cal Poly. Always clean, comfortable and affordable. Located right off the freeway and close to shopping and Madonna Inn. We usually arrive for late check in and are always greeted with a smiling employee. Great continental breakfast is a plus! Highly recommend for the price.

Stayed at this hotel on my way back from driving to San Francisco. Did not want to face Los Angeles during the rush hour. It was a very nice stay, the room was comfortable and I would stay here again. The breakfast was very nice. We left refreshed and ready to face the rest of the drive back to San Diego. I would recommend this Best Western hotel.

We were greeted very warmly upon arrival and we received drink and breakfast vouchers with our room key. The hotel was very New, bright and clean. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The room had an ice frig, good TV and a balcony. There is a beautiful and very spacious pool area, and the breakfast area is spacious and comfortable as well. Again, the staff here went out of their way to be friendly. There was a grocery store and several other businesses across the street. There is a beautiful walking trail to a lakeside park next to the property. Lacuna Lake has picnic benches, bBQs and washrooms in nice grassy areas around the ample parking lots.

Perfectly located amid huge malls with great restaurants and convenient to 101, the BW Royal Oak offers superb service, clean rooms with all the bells and whistles. Wine reception on weekday and breakfast daily.

We were glad to visit family in San Luis Obispo during the weekend. We were glad we were able to bring our dog on the trip.Staying at the hotel allowed us to do what we had hoped to do over the weekend.

We selected the Best Western Plus Royal Oak Hotel in San Luis Obispo because it was close to the start and finish line of the SLO Half Marathon (the start was just a few feet away). The room was large and nicely appointed, bathroom was always clean with more than adequate towels and wash cloths, and the view of the pool and sunsets was what was expected. However, the second day we were there, loaded down with shopping bags of local “neat things” we were locked out of our room; it was eventually straighten out (we had reserved the room for three days)(I know those things happen). Being vegan and gluten free, the only thing I could eat at the breakfast buffet was the fruit salad (which was sweet and fresh). I get up early (6 am) to check out the worlds happenings on Facebook, Email, CNN, etc. No such luck with the hotel's wi-fi system; it would not connect (later in the day, everything seemed OK). Tried my Smart Phone and it was also blocked (had to leave the range of the Wi-Fi system to reconnect with the outside world). Many years back, this type of Wi-Fi connections was sort of common, but not in this day and age; it was frustrating and disappointing. Not what you would expect for the price.

Great customer service from everyone I came in contact with. Added benefit of an excellent breakfast, happy hour, and always available high quality water and coffee. Would not hesitate to stay in this Best Western again.

This hotel is very clean, friendly staff. I would highly reccomend The breakfast is good.The pool area is nice, location close to ocean. The bed was very comfortable. What makes this a good hotel is the people who work here, the staff is very courteous.

We stayed the night in this Best Western while visiting our granddaughter going to Cal Poly. I have had some issues with this brand hotel and was a little worried about staying here, but what the heck, it's only one night! We were pleasantly surprised. They had a little reception in the lobby with snacks, wine and beer. The room was fair sized and clean with comfortable beds Breakfast was one of the better we have had at a Best Western. The staff kept area clean and food well stocked. I love the fact the serve real sausage not turkey. Good selection with 3 waffle makers so no waiting. They also have a very nice pool area although it was to cold the day we were there. We will definitely stay again when in the area.

Right off the back, there was one elevator and it was completely on the opposite side of the hotel. My wife and I had to park in the back, carry our luggage up a hill before walking up a few flights of stairs before reaching our room. This was a motel which they are trying to convert to a hotel. Not going to happen. If you are a fan of open corridors and doors facing outside then this is your place. It wasn't for me. The lobby is being remodeled so there is construction everywhere. To compensate they offered free beer and wine in the evening. The problem was it was being offered where there was construction. The rooms were not impressive although the bed and pillows were nice. I slept well. However, trying to walk around in socks sort of freaked me out because the carpet looked tired and old. The cable / satellite was also not working but they didn't tell me that at check in. After about 5 hrs I decided to call and report why my remote wasn't working, and quickly the lady responded that she knew then gave me the "secret" to change channels. Not much to report, other than if you need a place to stay overnight then it will do the job, but it is not going to wow you. If you are not able to walk up hill or climb stairs , then I would ask for a room close to the elevator or go somewhere else. Overall, I would give this place a 3 star.

Convenient location - easy to grab a bite from across the street (panera bread etc.). Room was large and comfortable. Coffee in the lobby was good. Not a fan of the free breakfast, we ended up not bothering the second day. We liked having real glasses/mugs in the room for our use, just wished that housekeeping put new glasses/mugs after the used ones were removed.

The visit started out great when the local managers were willing to move my reservation after I booked the wrong weekend. The staff were nice and helpful, and the hotel is pet friendly. I'd stay there again.

always wonderful staying at the hotel which is why I continue to stay here. Plan accordingly to enjoy complimentary happy hour off the lobby to taste wine from local vineyards and snacks and assortment of other beverages as well. Plenty of other hotels in the area. Have stayed at at least 10 different hotels in the area over past 10 years and this is by far the one I enjoy the most. Stay here at least 10 times a year and there is a reason I stay here.

clean comfortable room. Good service, good breakfast. The hotel/motel is located two blocks from the 101 freeway. with easy access to downtown and nearby locations such as Morro Bay and Avila Beach. Overall not great value, but certainly good value.

We booked the accessible room which had a very large shower to wilth a moveable bench seat if needed. Plenty of room to aide our son. The breakfast was one of the best! Buffet style with really good food. Scrambled eggs done right, not too hard, biscuits & gravy, sausage, fruit. The lobby was nicely decorated. The staff was very friendly and helpful

Had a very positive stay at the BW Plus Royal Oak. Front desk personnel were very friendly and informative. The room was clean and beds were comfortable, with firm mattresses and several comfy pillows. Free wifi provided good, speedy connectivity. As recommended by others, we stayed on a 3rd floor room in the main building, facing the pool. There was a rear stairway to the parking lot near out room, which was convenient. So the room was very quiet. The free breakfast was adequate - scrambled eggs, make-your-own waffles, cereal & granola, fresh fruit and piping hot coffee. Not an "Embassy Suites" full breakfast experience, but met our needs. The attendant in the breakfast room was friendly, energetic and helpful. The only negatives were that the TV and phone would not work - a displayed message on the TV indicated connectivity problems and instructed us to contact the service provider. (huh?) We are not big TV watchers but were just curious about what programming was on, so no big loss for us. The phone was dead when I tried to call the front desk about checking out. Not a huge issue but it just seemed odd. I informed the front desk at checkout about these outages. The front desk person was apologetic and said she would have them investigated.

This hotel is nice and I would stay here again. The rooms are nice enough but the shower in my room is some crazy contraption that sprays water all over the floor. Good thing my room has a lot of towels. So much for conserving water.

I have stayed here before and it is above average. The staff is very good and Chase is excellent. I'll be back the price went up a little bit so I need to check on that but otherwise I was very satisfied.

Good place to stay and is actually really pet friendly some hotels say they are but only for small pets it also has a dog park. Balcony is a plus and grocery store is just across the street. TV needs upgrade

I stayed here with my wife and 2 year old as we were passing through on a road trip, and were pleasantly surprised by the quality and value; great, clean room for the price! We will definitely stay here again.

We've stayed at many Best Western hotels and this was one of the best. Clean room, nice king-sized bed and delicious chocolate chip cookies upon arrival! The room was comfortable and overlooked the pool. Staff members were very courteous and helpful. Breakfast was delicious and offered a variety of items.

Amazing hotel. Staff were very friendly. We were upgraded to a better deluxe room, because our standard king size room was unavailable. Service was extraordinary. It was like staying in a 5 star hotel. Would prefer staying in a best western hotel in the future.

I prepaid for this room and got a good deal. The first room they tried to give me I could not get into because a guy was tiling out in the hall. The second room overlooked the pool and was fine. The bed was comfortable and everything worked fine. Breakfast was free, but it was strange that it is in a room right behind IHOP. Location was close to the freeway and not too far from downtown.

The room was very clean. The king size bed was firm and did not sag in the center, nice! They had a free happy hour from 5-7 which worked at well for us. The breakfast was good.,they had plenty of choices of food. The staff was excellent, friendly and helpful. We will stay there again next we are there. We walked to nice park that was a block away.

I had booked this hotel for three nights but only made it for two because I found bed bugs on my bed! The staff was very accommodating and gave me a full refund. If it weren't for the bed bugs I would recommend this hotel.

This hotel is a great price and includes a great complimentary breakfast! I am usually picky when it comes to breakfast but it was clean, fresh and included a waffle maker which was a nice plus. The rooms are clean and they give you two free drinks. The beds are also very comfy.

$498.00 for a 2 night stay should at the least warrant custodial services. Upon arrival to my room after a 4 hour car ride, toilet wouldn't flush and I was told that it would be at least an hour before someone could come to my room. However I was given a plunger to use and return once I fixed the problem. I had a security concern because I am a woman travelling alone. I voice that concern upon making my reservation but was still give a ground floor room with a sliding glass door that had a broken secondary lock, I had to devise a way to secure the door because the type of lock on the door itself was easy to break into. I bought items to put in the refrigerator and learned that the only temp. was warm so the purchases were wasted. The staff were pleasant but not very attentive. I picked This property because I've stayed at Best Westerns all over CA and at half the price that this one charged. My stays at other Best Westerns were ALWAYS great. the staff on duty during those stays went above and beyond my expectation. That is why I chose this hotel. I thought I would gain the same experience especially for the inflated price I was paying. I was deeply disappointed.

I was very impressed with my very large room here. The bed was very comfortable. The room looked brand new with two comfortable chairs, a desk, large TV, balcony with two chairs, fridge and a large spotless bathroom. The breakfast really put me a good mood to continue my drive. I wish I had more time to spend here. The pool area looked really nice with large Palm trees. I liked having the shopping center across the street with a large Ralph's grocery store.

was very expensive per night for the type of hotel, but it was a nice enough room, tastefully decorated and good for being able to have our dog with us. Staff was very nice, and the breakfast was tasty! It was extra expensive as it was parents' weekend at Cal Poly, so all the hotels seem to jack up the prices that weekend.

The room was very comfortable, clean and had a small balcony where we could relax and look over the pool. We had a good night's sleep in the comfortable bed. We especially appreciate that the hotel is pet friendly. Mid-week rates were very attractive but weekends were too expensive for us. The breakfast room was large enough to hold quite a few guests and the food was more than just the typical carb-heavy fare. The food was prepared and presented very well and was a tasty breakfast. The evening reception was a nice touch for road-weary travelers. We'll certainly be back but likely in mid-week. Ample parking is available for trailers.

We picked this motel once we arrived as opposed to making a reservation in advance and we couldn't be more pleased! Very clean and free WiFi was easy to set up and use. The complimentary breakfast was awesome the hours were from 6:00 to 10:00 So no problem with eating at a decent breakfast time. I highly recommend this motel.

loved our stay there, located in middle of city made easy to accesess. offered breakfast from IHOP loved it. staff provided good information about downtown& best place to visit around. room was clean & presentable.

Renovations were ongoing and I almost felt banished from the new rooms as my room was in the very back of the hotel with an outside entrance. Room was acceptable but definitely dated. Just passing through for the night and used a Hotwire deal. Could have been the reason for the room selection.

This is a clean, good hotel but for the past 6mo during construction (summer /fall ) the rates went up ! I asked staff & NO Discount was offered for the inconvenience of getting to/from rooms. Noise,dust etc...

Especially right now ... currently undergoing construction on half of their property which every room can hear. The walls are so thin I can hear conversations outside, in other rooms, the banging of the construction,the drills,the sanding and then maid staff. There has been multiple times the maids have tried to enter my room, even with my do not disturb on the door. The office has made many mistakes like checking me out and not checking me back in. Had to complain multiple times to the office & they do not care. Worst service ever and I have stayed at many hotels. I even removed my do not disturb off of the door and it took three phone calls to get them to bring it back to me not sure why they needed to be reminded three times. There are a few other hotels in the area that are nicer and have to be better. If you plan on getting any sleep do not stay here.

I stayed for one night as a stop over between San Francisco and LA. Very nice hotel, friendly staff, lovely rooms, very comfortable bed, good little gym, nice pool and free breakfast, plenty of parking. Even got given some free beer/ wine tokens to use....bonus! I'd definitely use this hotel again.

My biggest complaint is that the ONLY internet service available is some strange company (not affiliated with Best Western) that was so insecure that I was not permitted to log on to my university's website! Then after I used the internet, my computer behaved strangely with pop-ups and such. This was not acceptable for me, because I had a lot of work to do at the hotel. I was given a "pool view room" which in one sense was on the third floor (because it was two floors up from the lobby) but it was really on the ground floor because there is an access road right behind my room that was completely accessible to the public. So the only thing between me and the road was the door to my room, and there was police activity right there that night. (A woman was being handcuffed by the police.). My room had also just been painted and was in the middle of a construction zone, so I got a headache from those fumes and the dust from the drywall. Just a terrible experience all-round. Stay someplace else!

We stayed here on our way to the Hearst Castle as all the hotels along highway 1 were booked and it worked out perfect. SLO is a great community and this hotel followed suit. The check-in was fast, friendly, and they gave us local map and suggested places to eat. I have food allergies and it is near impossible to find places. This was a huge help to us. The room was on the top floor on the end as we requested. The room was comfortable and large for two people. It had a refrigerator and bottle water, both a nice bonus. The bed was comfortable and we both slept well. Breakfast was a nice mix of hot/cold cereal, waffles, yogurt, juices, breads, and fruit. I could not eat any of the items due to my food allergies; however, the women putting on the breakfast were kind enough to offer me soy milk (yay!) so I could eat Cheerios and this was huge to me. I greatly appreciated their kindness and above and beyond help. I would stay here again.

Hotel was fine other than one issue. The noise transmission from one room to the next is significant. Unfortunately, this is something not easily correctible. You may be lucky and have a quiet neighbor in the adjacent room. We were not. No fun listening to conversation from the next room at 2 am.

On the up side it was clean and well kept with a friendly staff. The pool are was really nice even if the weather was a bit too cold. The premises are in need of a huge face lift. The feeling is more of a hotel from the 80s. The breakfast room had a feeling of prison cafeteria... No windows. And not so much of a selection. So yes. I slept well and I was just passing by on my trip down HW1. But for this price I expected a lot more than I got.

I've been staying at the Royal Oak for a couple of years, while on business in San Luis Obispo and always enjoy the facility. The rooms are spacious, the bedding and pillows are comfortable, the staff is helpful and the location is so user friendly. The last year, a few additional improvements have been in process for the hotel, and this seems to be adding more quality and value for my expense. I highly recommend choosing the Royal Oak.

Very nice. Thin walls. Breakfast was very crowded with screaming kids. Breakfast was quite good, but tables were so close together you could hardly get in your chair. Have been staying here for years, but at $172 total per night will be looking at another place next time

Looked like our room had recently been redone, it was large, clean, comfortable with a pool view. However, you can easily hear the noise from the hallway, banging doors and I was woken up my someone turning on the bathroom fan and shower upstairs, what a racket! Ok for a night but wouldn't want to stay there longer.

Clean and close to the city. Very friendly front desk staff. The place is pet friendly and it is quiet in the evening despite number of dogs staying there. Breakfast is ok - nothing to spectacular in comparison with your 5 stars hotel. Recommend to book in advance and stay away during College moving in day or graduation week unless you want to pay over $300 per night for a room that's definitely not worth that price.

We stayed in this hotel because it was dog-friendly. The room and small patio were nice, but I will say that the small fenced in area for dogs was tucked away in a corner and was all dirt. I would have preferred an area with grass or artificial turf. The added bonus of staying at this hotel was that the stay came with a nice breakfast.

I really wanted to like this hotel, but it just does not live up to the other tripadvisor reviews. Upon checkin my boyfriend and I were given the handicap room (room 324), which was odd as we did not request this. We bought this hotel on a Hotwire express deal (2.5*) for $166+ fees and taxes. At checkin we requested a quiet room as I am a very light sleeper. The front desk man assured us the handicap room was the best. First morning we were woken up around 7:30 to "clink clunk clink clunk". This was the sound of the maids' service carts and it was very loud (woke me up every day). Our room was on the back side of the hotel, the only area with outdoor cement walkways in front of the rooms. I suspect if we had stayed in the side wing rooms we would not have heard this noise as much as these areas are carpet and indoors. Second, the maid entered our room and cleaned despite our Do Not Disturb sign being outside. I really did not appreciate this invasion of privacy. Third, I found a creepy crawly centipede looking bug in the room. Fourth, the neighbors were very loud and left their alarm going off for about an hour at top volume in the morning. The maids did nothing to turn it off even though it could be heard. Fifth, the breakfast was less than great. It was a combination of pre-made pastries, yogurt, oatmeal, waffle machine, powdered eggs, and very greasy sausages. I guess there is a good reason Ihop gives 20% to guests. This hotel really fell flat. I probably will not return unless it's significant cheaper than other options at the same star level.

My family and I stayed here on our recent trip while driving along the California coast. It was very neat and clean. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a fantastic breakfast included and there was wifi which is very important to my daughter. Great place for a stop over.

Nice property and good view. Very convenient location. However, not greeted when we arrived, room was on top floor with no elevator and no offer to help us. Broken deadbolt and narrow walkway with housekeeping cart and dirty linens on the ground so we had to push the cart out of the way to get past. Clerk did not thank us or acknowledge us when we checked out.

I recently stayed here with friends of mine. The staff is very friendly and i had no problems with anything downstairs. The pool and jacuzzi were great, though the pool was a little chilly due to the cool weather. It was me and my friend in a room on the 4th floor and i did not care for the construction happening all around my room. There was no elevator to the fourth floor so we all had to drag our luggage up a flight of stairs. I could hear many things from my room due to the thin walls. I had no issues with the appliances in the hotel room. Location is meh, across from a great shopping area. Not sure if i would say its worth the price i paid. Overall, a decent hotel to stat in if your staying somewhere for a short amount of time. ps, the wifi sucks in the hotel

This was our second trip to this particular Best Western Royal Oak hotel. It is comfortable and low-key, and near lots of wineries and beaches. Check-in is always easy, and we particularly like the electric vehicle charging station and we able to park there for 4 nights -- a great extra value. Breakfast is good and the afternoon / early evening wine and cheese reception a good way to meet fellow travelers. The room was comfy and quiet, with great temperature controls and a nice balcony to enjoy the weather. Loved the hot tub and pool. The parts of the hotel undergoing some renovation were not loud or in the way at all. The staff was particularly helpful and free wi-fi fast and convenient.

The hotel is quite large and there was no elevator, we needed to drag our luggage for a long time. However the room was quiet, clean and comfortable. Wifi worked just fine. Breakfast was a bit sad in an adjacent building to the hotel.

Clean reasonable size room, comfy beds, No Safe in the room, Noisy AC unit, very loud alarm clock (it wakes you up) all with a balcony onto a car park which is a waste IMHO! Complimentary breakfast was free and cheerful, shops across the road offer more choices for eating, its a quiet area and good for an overnight stay on PCH1

I'm not generally picky about hotels -- a clean hotel room in a decent and safe area and I'm okay. When traveling with my family, I prefer Best Western "Plus" properties because of the amenities, etc. This was nothing more than a motel -- and an older, run-down one at that. I've been a longtime BW guest but won't stay at this motel again. We just took a 9 day road trip, staying in a LOT of hotels (all Best Western) and this was the worst by far -- even the bed was horrible.

For a reasonable price, this hotel offers high level services. There is a swimming pool and a bathtub in every room, that are spacious. Only negative aspect: the breakfast is Served on disposable cutlery only. Bad for the environment. Located close to the highway and less than 2 miles from downtown.

We stayed for the night after driving for hours. The guy at the front desk was SUPER nice and helpful. Free parking. The room was clean and very comfortable with tv and air conditioner. Breakfast was included and was very decent. Overall a very nice hotel and would stay here again.

Our family of 4 stayed at best western in Simi Valley which was great so decided to use best western again on our way up to San Francisco. Our room was on the bottom floor. Location ok, rooms inside are fine but the noise from the room above with not. Everytime someone moved, walked, used the toilet or showered you heard it in our room. This hotel needs upgrading especially the sound insulation.

Great, Best Best Western we have stayed at. Every thing we wanted was close by. Had fun at the farmers market. Great food. Shopped for fruit and vegetables. Nice shopping mall across the street and restaurant next door.

Had a nice, convenient stay for the family of four. Decent enough breakfast, too, with waffles, cereal, and packaged oatmeal. Essentially, we at and slept here, and would do it again, esp. if we were visiting Cal Poly.

We stopped here for the night after traveling all day. The hotel is centrally located and lovely. Chase at the front desk was wonderful and very helpful. He suggested a great place to eat downtown which was Gusieppe Palazzo and it was wonderful. Plus, it allowed us the opportunity to explore the down town. We would stay here again!

Travelling with my husband and our three kids (aged 7-10). The hotel itself is by a busy road and opposite a big retail park. Conveniently situated for the main highway but quite a functional building. We had asked for interconnecting rooms (which they don't have) but were given two rooms adjacent to each other. The staff were ever so friendly and helpful (Jaun on the front desk especially). The big asset of this hotel is the fabulous swimming pool... perfect after a day out. Overall the hotel is simple and the rooms are comfortable if a little functional....the black out blinds are good though so you get great sleep here. Also they provide a free breakfast... its a new initiative so they are working out the kinks in the logistics but it saved us about $50 every morning.....

The whole family (even our 2 dogs) came along to our daughter's student life orientation at Cal Poly, and stayed here. It's very convenient (about 4 miles from the campus); clean facility; good breakfast selection; walking distance to a good number of restaurants around the area; and close to Pismo and Avila beach. We'll be back again and stay here.

We were looking for a place to stay in SLO that had a swimming pool and was close to the town centre. This is your common Best Western, so don't expect amazing views from your window, but it was clean, staff was really helpful and the pool area was all the kids needed. SLO is a very nice place to visit!

Had one night in San Luis Obispo after travelling Route 1. This was a lovely hotel, quiet, good parking, nice free breakfast. Free beer and snacks at night, comfy bed. Couldn't fault any of it. Room was on the second floor facing inward, shower was large and warm, room was plenty big enough. We were really tired so we did little here but sleep, but can happily recommend it

This hotel is a great value. Once the breakfast is improved (which I was told is occurring in the coming weeks), this will be a fantastic value. There was some construction occurring while we were there and it had little effect on us, but shows the investment in the property. Each room has a small balcony, some facing the pool and others towards the parking lot or hills behind the hotel. In any case, this is a nice feature of the hotel. The only complaint I can make (and why I didn't rank it excellent) is because it is a slightly older hotel (but obviously updated) so the walls are thinner than some new hotels and you can hear some noise around you.

We chose this hotel primarily because (1) it is pet friendly and (2) it is a Best Western and we have had good experiences with Best Westerns. This hotel did not disappoint. After a full day of driving from San Francisco and visiting Monterrey, Carmel, and CA route 1 along Big Sur, this was a clean, comfortable place to stay. There are several restaurants across the street within easy walking distance and in the evening the hotel serves beer and wine with tasty snacks. The included breakfast was adequate but not the most impressive that we have seen at Best Westerns. Even though we did not use it, the pool area is attractive. The staff was friendly and we would stay here again with our small dog.

We stayed here two nights, with a dog and a child. The rooms are clean, but small and out dated. Felt a little seedy staying here. If you don't mind the paper thin walls (we heard the next room entertaining), people trying to get into your room (this happened twice Friday night), your door jarring when your neighbor opens their door, then you won't mind staying here. The staff was very friendly and professional and they have an enclosed doggie area, albeit a little walk away from the hotel depending on where in the hotel your staying. To me, it wasn't worth the $250, however thats the going rate in this area.

There are two major things my husband and I want when we stay at a hotel, cleanliness and being comfortable. While we usually use booking services through booking.com, trip advisor and groupon for price, I also use them for guest ratings. The ratings were so wrong. The room had an AC but even after the hotel sent someone to make sure it was on correctly we found ourselves sweating two nights in a row. Also, this is the most uncomfortable bed I have slept on in the 10 years, not to mention the pillows. They have obviously used the cheapest quality products they could or haven't replaced them appropriately. My husband and I are in our 30s and our backs and necks are sore, not to mention the poor quality of sleep. If you can;t sleep in a hotel, whats the point. Only half the buttons on the remote control worked for the tv, and getting into the hotel room took 6 to 8 swipes with the key card. The price here was a joke. We spent a little more last weekend and stayed in pismo with an incredible view and had outstanding service in a comfortable room and were looking forward to a similar experience here, that was not the case. I thought I could rely on best western as an old faithful for reservations but we were sadly mistaken.

The staff at this hotel were so helpful - gave us excellent recommendations for places to eat, and helped with some suggestions on wineries to visit on our way to San Jose the next day. I don't usually like to stay in rooms with 'pool view' because of the likelihood of noise, but the pool/patio in this hotel is a bonus - so pretty to look out on. While the hotel is not in downtown San Luis Obispo, it is not far, and there are plenty of restaurants and shopping close to hand. We would recommend it and stay there again ourselves.

We had planned on driving up to Hearst Castle and back the same day but decided to extend while in SLO. Frantically looking for pet friendly hotels on Trip Advisor lead to this great find. It's one short offramp away from downtown SLO next to the Madonna Inn. Fair pricing and comfortable stay! There were some dumps in the area. We had two queen beds and a balcony. My dog liked it as well. There's a little dog park area in the back, but it was all dirt so we just did little walks out front. Very friendly staff. Breakfast and cocktail hour are a great bonus. Had such a nice time we ended up staying two nights!

I was very happy with The Best Western. It was perfect too because I could take my dog. Very helpful and friendly staff and the room was clean. Prices were fine. I would stay here next time, especially if I take my dog.

Stayed there as part of a college tour of Cal Poly. Convenient to everything. The Breakfast bar could have been a little more embellished, but was OK. Fitness center was too small to be of value. Would still stay there again.

This hotel is very well located in San Luis. We had a conference At Cal Poly San Luis and it was a nice drive there and back to the hotel. There are a lot of restaurants close by, rooms are very clean, very organised staff. I would stay here again next year for my conference.

Michael front desk guy went out of his way after hours to get my children milk and put us in first floor room. Great guy great place to stay. Hotel is undergoing remodel so the decor is not the greatest, but most likely will be.

On our way to Simi Valley, we spent a night at the Best Western Plus Royal Oak hotel. The room was good but a bit noisy from the interior doors slamming. Interestingly, there are no elevators to the second floor but rather a ramp. Nice concept. The bed was great but the WiFi was come and go. Breakfast was quite nice. Close t the freeway too.

A motel style hotel situated on a busy noisy road. Convenient for the large shopping mall with good facilities. No in room safe, but does have tea and coffee facilities, refigarator and microwave The bath/ shower tap needs some explanation as it is not conventional. Two comfortable large beds and good size room for the tour traveller. I did find a 'strange bit of hair ball in my bed' Friendly helpful staff. The breakfast is not great. The wifi needs you to use the access code and it's often down.

The hotel in general is tired and s tad old fashioned. Our room was on an upper floor and there is no elevator. The stairway to our room reminded me of a back stair to a car parking lot (horrible concrete). There is wifi provided, but good luck using it as the connection is bad and the service really slow. Breakfast, if you can call it that, is like a roadside takeaway and there is literally 6 tables for service. I wouldn't come back.

really happy with the king room we got. stayed for five nights while on vacation in SLO. very centralize, next to 101, and all shopping is within a mile range. also really close to Motana de Oro national park, great hiking. love it

This hotel is easy and a great location for my needs. I find the staff helpful and I have a sweet routine to meet my needs when I stay. I also feel it is a great value, monetarily. I do recommend this hotel, however, one should be clearly aware of their needs for a hotel. Mine are for business and I like the way I can make it all work smoothly.

This is more of a motel than a hotel, the room was modern, clean but fairly small. Nice reception area with free cheese and wine on arrival which was a nice touch. Attractive courtyard with chairs and tables. Good for a one night stay and breakfast was included. Stayed for 1 night only, greeted with Cheese and Wine. Nice large room, very clean. Nice swimming pool but too cold to use when we stayed.

Good location to walk to local shopping centre for meals and supplies. Rooms very clean with adequate space and good light from balcony. They may have pet friendly rooms as some quests had small dogs. Well maintained pool. Walls were only gyprock so noise from adjoining rooms may be an issue if your neighbours create noise.

Good hotel in a great location and the staff were wonderful and very helpful. The only thing I didn't like very much is that the walls are too thin and you could hear everything outside our bedroom. Noise wasn't a constant factor. Only a couple of times that people talked loud in the halls. Great location though, close to restaurants, grocery store and shopping.

Newer and nicer Best Wester hotel in a good location. You will still need a car to get you to downtown SLO but still pretty close. Rooms are comfortable and very clean. Good service. Hotel also has a great outdoor area and pool. Great value for all hotel has to offer.

The hotel from the front looks inviting, but when walking to the room it's another story. Elevator did not go to the 3rd floor, back area with service road that trucks use early in the morning. Breakfast was okay for a BW, but there are other place with better.

Very clean rooms, good service overall except for feeling rushed at breakfast. Missed having a hot egg dish at breakfast like lots of other Best Westerns. Pet area is fenced in dirt - very hard to use. They had a very unique beer and wine happy hour which was fun. Overall though, a very good stay.

The folks on reception were helpful on check-in and departure. The room itself was "fine" but not worth $200! What let the place down in a big way was no sign of an elevator and a lousy breakfast arrangement. For some reason you get given a token to give staff for breakfast. This is then to be handed in when you arrive for the "deluxe feast that awaits." Well I think that's the idea. I arrived and the small breakfast room was quite busy. As I walked into the area a member of staff almost snatched the two tokens I had like they were $50 bills (not sure why I had 2 as it was just me in the room). Then found no cooked food available, a choice of 2 cereals and the rest a little lack-lustre. With nowhere to sit and an awful "selection" of food I walked out. It was not even worth wasting my time on an apple juice and coffee. Not sure how this hotel qualifies as "Best Western PLUS" but I shall be avoiding it in future when I next in the area.

This hotel is very well managed, clean and a great value. The staff is very polite and bends over for their clients. I have been staying here for the last few years and have never had a unpleasant experience. Highly recommended.

Location was perfect, easy freeway access or side streets into downtown or campus. Lots of resturants to choose from, literally accross the street. My room was in the back of the hotel, I would recommend avoiding the back, busses and trucks leaving early will wake you up. Lobby hosts a nice coctail event, allowing you to meet other travelers. Wine country and distance to ocean very close.

Stayed 1 night on our way through. Clean, relatively new decor, quiet, fine breakfast (for free continental!) took a 15 minute morning walk to the lake just to the west- nice way to stretch our legs! Shopping center right across the street with grocery store and restaurants. If you read earlier reviewers, note that the free wine and snacks between 5-7 is only M-Thurs. It would be nice if the front desk had wine glasses that you could borrow. But the glass tumblers in the room worked just fine as well!

I stayed in this hotel while I was visiting my son in Calpoly it was not my choice as I booked another hotel better score on the reviews but unfortunately when I arrived they couldn't find my booking and when they contact booking.com it was there mistake and the hotel was fully booked so they try to find for my another hotel close by and available so the found the best western and ask me to go there. The first day I was there I had don't disturb sign on the door but house keeping knocked on the door twice and open the door on me waking me up. I had to talk to her and tel her there is a sign on the door saying don't disturb. The second day I had the sign and I removed it before I left the room about noon and when I came back after 5 hours the room was the same and not clean when I call the front desk the guy try to convince me that they don't clean the room except by the guest request I try to explain to him that this is a hotel and they are supposed to clean the room daily but he couldn't understand so I ask him to give me his supervisor and explain to her what happened. She told me that there was a don't disturb sign on the door that's why they didn't clean and the house keeping work finished at 2. I told her the sign removed at noon. The answer there is nothing I can do. I can send you towels that's all. It is frustrating if your paying and not getting the service.

Nice Hotel. Not too far away from downtown. Nice room with a view of the pool. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. However the only downside was the breakfast - not that great. basically just toast, juice. you could make a waffle if you wanted to but it was just easier to walk to Denny's

Arrived in late, would have liked it to have had it's own restaurant, but it is currently being renovated, as are some room areas. The staff on checkin-in and out were friendly as was the breakfast staff.

Stayed her for a quick trip to see Cal Poly, SLO with my son. Upon arrival, asked for a quiet room. Agent was polite and gave us the quietest room he had available on the third floor, worked out great. Coffee in the morning was great and ample selections for a quick breakfast.

Stayed here for a weekend getaway. Clean rooms, good breakfast. Accommodated our large dog without issues. Friendly, attentive staff. Breakfast had decent selection of food. Grounds were well-kept and nothing smelled of pets.

The room was ok except the WIFI would not work. Its such a problem the owner has pre-printed post it notes with the phone number of their service provider to call and try to get a connection. When we complained after this failed they just shrugged. I asked for a discount but they declined. The room should not be marketed at the same price as rooms with WIFI. There were other odd things that did not work: the TV (wiggled the cord and it started), the sink electrical socket was worn out would not keep a cord plugged in. I would not stay here again.

From the rooms next door, I could hear every conversation, suitcase rolling over carpet, doors opening and closing, faucets and showers turning on, toilets flushing, you name it. Though there were other pleasant/decent aspects of the stay (it was clean, breakfast was fine, no mixups with reservation), the horrible thinness of the walls made this hotel a deal breaker for me. To top it off, housecleaning started at 9am, so even with a "do not disturb" sign on the door, it was far from a quiet morning. I'll never stay at this location again -- especially for nearly $250/night. I've had much better stays elsewhere for half that price.

The room was great. Clean and comfortable and convenient. The breakfast was just average but ok. However, there was no decent place to take a doggie. There was just a tiny enclosed place out back with no grass.

I stayed in another wonderful BW Hotel. Though I don't travel a lot, I always stay at BW when possible. The rooms are always very clean, moderate to outstanding in their decor, and above all clean. I really appreciate that they sanitize the remote controls for the TV. The reception staff was knowledgeable about dining, shopping and directions, especially helpful since I'd never been there before. Had a lovely view of the pool area. And the rooms were very quiet even though I was on a very busy street. There was no noise from adjoining rooms, including the running of showers and flushing of toilets. All very important. Last but not least, the bed was extremely comfortable, including the pillows. CLEAN, QUIET, FRIENDLY STAFF. What more could you ask for.

I travel to the coast nearly weekly on business and have many options of places to stay. The staff and facilities here immediately won me over and this has become my "home away from home". Truly caring people from the top down, the team here has always made my stays amazing. There is a great breakfast in the morning and (bonus!) a beer, wine and snacks happy hour in the evening. WIFI has always been strong, the rooms and grounds are always VERY clean and the location is easy access to all of SLO. I bring my family to stay here when we are visiting the Central Coast as well. I would highly recommend this property for business or pleasure trips!

We always choose the Royal Oak when we visit our son at Cal Poly. Easy location, super clean, love the pool, jacuzzi and breakfast, and the staff is always very helpful. It's close to everything including restaurants and there are some cool running trails in the area as well.

This was a great place to stay, close to everything and it was so great that they allow dogs. It was clean, quite and the staff is very friendly and helpful. We were going to stay somewhere else but the value and location of this hotel helped us make the choice to stay here. The kids had fun at the pool and spa and it was easy for them to walk to the nearby restaurants, and shopping. It is 10 minutes away from Avila beach and nearby to a basketball court. Perfect place to relax and play.

Great stay. Great staff who were friendly and professional. Clean updated rooms. Well maintained. Note: the addition of something simple as a food warmer with scrambled eggs and sausage would be HUGE.

The hotel was generally good. Price was more than I expected. Overall the stay was good. We visited the area to check out Cal Poli University since my daughter has registered there and will attend in the Fall

San Luis Obispo is one of our favorite places to spend away from home. Our first time was our 25th ann. in 1980, and we have gone for special occasion ever since. Our 25th was spent at the Maddona Inn, which is one of our favorite places to dine. It would do you well to recommend their steak house, the food is exceptional, and the atmosphere is great as well as the service. Your location was perfect for us, we did not have to go far to see the things that we were interested in. This is important to us since my husband is now 83 yrs. For seniors it is important that things are convenient an easy to access, which we enjoyed at your Best Western. The final remark is the breakfast area was pleasant, but most important was the variety of food you had and its freshness . Good Job. All in all it was a wonderful time. and it was great. This place is dog friendly, has a good staff, decent complimentary happy hour and continental breakfast, and is located near a very nice park (Laguna Lake park), which includes a dog section, as well as several nearby eateries. On the downside, the facility could use some renovations. For example, noise from the hallway flows freely into the room (we heard the young ladies who loudly came back to their rooms at 2 in the morning). Still, I would probably recommend the place.

This motel possibly has a moisture issue. The bath fan does not run after the light is turned off and has little chance to dry out. When a bath has a shower in it there needs to be better venting. I study, train and consult Building Science. Best Western, would you like to hire me to fix this issue?

We had a room which looked out on the swimming pool and spa. We wished we were not in a hurry to leave the next morning - it would have been nice to just stay and relax. The room was beautifully decorated and exceptionally comfortable.

We stayed overnight Sunday. When I checked in, I forgot to provide my Best Western ID number and when I was checking out, I mentioned this to the clerk on duty, I was informed that on check-in the day before, they researched and found my number and had credited me. The room was comfortable, and dark. It was fairly quiet. Breakfast was continental style, and I was able to put together a good one, from the nice selection of options. I wish the coffee and hot water urns were in the dining room, though. They were not, but were nearby in the lobby area. This was a minor inconvenience.

We stopped at Sans Louis Obispo for one night on our way from Anaheim to Monterey. It was a very comfortable and pleasant stay. The decor in the room was a little dated and had a 70's feel to it but the room was spotlessly clean. The breakfast was really good - lots of choice and the coffee delicious! The coffee is available in the lobby all the time as well. We were on a 3 week trip around California and we stayed in 8 different hotels during that time. For us the staff here really stood out as being exceptional compared with other places during the trip - especially the reception manager Chase. Very helpful, friendly and accommodating.

Staff is wonderful. Room was nice and clean. Breakfast and coffee offerings were extremely POOR. If you care about your health and eating right you'll pass on their food choices. Beds are ok but not great. Noise can also be a problem, you can hear TVs in other rooms and noise from doors opening and closing from other rooms.

The staff at the hotel are really great. We enquired about the SLO night market and the woman at the desk pulled out a map and showed us 2 ways of getting there, told us to go after 6:00 as parking would be free, gave us directions on where we could park and was very helpful. There was a happy hour reception that was a perfect start to the evening - wine, cheese and crackers and other snacks. What's not to like? We had a corner room overlooking the courtyard and it was lovely. It was nice and clean and the bed was very comfortable. We did not have a problem with noise from other rooms, maybe it wasn't too busy the evening we were there. The location is very good, it is close to downtown and the freeway but it is set far enough back from the freeway that you do not get the traffic noise. The breakfast buffet was okay - typical of hotel breakfast buffets. It was a good stay and we would stay again.

Free WiFi, laundry room available ($1.25 soap, $1.50 washing, $0.75 drying, all quarters), free parking. Nice and helpful staff. The included breakfast was ok, it has waffles, biscuits, muffins, orange juice and the continental regular stuff, as well as two fresh fruit options. Good location, in front of a mall with Applebee's and other food options as well as some stores like Bed, Bath and Beyond and the USPS.

This place is a college dorm. the amount of noise coming through the walls, ceiling and door kept us up all night--people having sex next door and the pounding of footsteps from above--I can not believe this place charged me $250 to lose a nights sleep with overpowering chemical smells. We are in the process of moving to SLO and will share our experience with our friends

This is a cute hotel with excellent staff and service. The courtyard is a delight and the location very convenient to US 101 just below Santa Barbara, CA. The hotel prices are a good value compared to Santa Barbara and you do not have to book 2 nights unless you wish. Very pleased with the entire experience and Carpenteria is a cute town complete with beach side and cafes.

Very accommodating staff; pleasant evening reception; variety of breakfast foods. The rooms are large, quiet and clean; the service staff is willing to wait to clean the rooms and do an excellent job; the front desk staff couldn't be more friendly and attentive.

Handsome, meticulously kept, motel with beautiful courtyard and thoughtful amenities, e.g. glasses (real) in room and bkfst, real silverware, etc. WiFi was seamless. Front staff was effortlessly helpful to us in special ways at arrival. Owners obviously take pride in property and service.

Easy on/off the Highway, safe area, close to restaurants and stores, close to historic Downtown SLO. Breakfast isn't anything special but its included with the lodging so how can you complain about free? Quiet and clean room, free wifi, what more do you need for one night's stay?

We travelled from San Fran (BW) to Santa Barbara,)BW) , Anaheim (Holiday Inn) San Luis Obispo (BW),San FRan (BW). Royal Oak Hotel was the best of BW hotels we have ever booked. Breakfast and Happy Hour were both very good with their choices and efficiency. The help with choosing a dinner restaurant was well received by us and suited us perfectly. We would certainly recommend Royal Oak. Well run so the management should be commended.

Pleasant and convenient. Staff was very helpful. Close to Cal Poly and downtown. Close but NOT TOO Close to the freeway. Clean room and comfortable bed. Could here some conversation in room next door, but nothing above what should be expected in a hotel room. TV was large and channel selections were broad. We enjoyed the breakfast and ate too many SLO DO Co cinnamon rolls! I'd stay again.

Our room overlooked the pool. It had a small balcony which was very nice in the hot weather. The room was very clean and the bed comfortable. Happy hour was a nice treat and breakfast was good as well. The only negative was that the ice machine was in an awkward location - it involved going outside, up a ramp, up a flight of stairs to the end of the next building.

our stay at the hotel was wonderful, it was clean, the room was comfortable, in room internet was fast and easy to use. Only complaint is the pool was freezing. I think maybe the heater was broken but it was a quick trip and I didn't tell the front desk.

great location!!!!! pet friendly and very close to an amazing park with great running trails and a dog park. There is also a herd of brood mares with babies in the spring and summer. i stay here every six weeks and travel with my dog. The pet rooms are really nice and that's not always the case :-(

Good Service. Convenient location (close to restaurants, shopping mall, post office, farmer's market, etc). Very delicious breakfast. Friendly staff; allowed my husband and I to have a late check-out (30 mins after the regular check-out time), which permitted us to take care of some important personal business in the area before leaving.

We chose to stay here because of location and it's a pet friendly hotel. We are members in Best Western's 'club' and have stayed at many locations in the U.S. and Europe. This was the top Best Western in terms of overall quality of service, cleanliness, location. We'd highly recommend it!

Friendly staff. Clean rooms. Only complaints are soy milk should be available at breakfast & the luggage carts needed to have wd40 on the wheels they were very hard to turn. Nice to have coffee & fruit in the lobby.

This hotel was lovely, inside and in the setting. Staff were very courteous and helpful. Breakfast was decent. Arrived on Wednesday when happy hour was in effect. Nice touch. Only complaint, internet was extremely slow despite hotel not being full at all.

This was a nice hotel to stay with our little dog. They have a small dog park in the back for the dog to run and go to the bathroom. The hotel is very pleasant and clean. Our only issue was the lack of insulation and hearing the people above us walking late at night and the people next door talking

The hotel was clean, the rooms were comfortable and the staff was most helpful. We had been travelling for about 2 weeks when we arrived at this hotel and had some good and bad experiences so it was very nice to arrive at a place where the staff made us feel very welcome. The rooms were very comfortable and we all wished we had more time to stay and enjoy the area.

This is a clean, pleasant, comfortable hotel with good highspeed internet, tv, and beds. Breakfast was plentious, and the sliding doors kept the outside road nose completely out. Desk staff were friendly and helpful, and you can walk to restaurants and shopping - very convenient. We travel with a dog, and the pet area is small but secure. It even has a bench, and there is a tree stump to pee on!

We were a big group. The check in was a little slow but front desk is nice. We were tucked way at the back ( that was my only complain, asked for a room facing the pool after check in but not available. There is a bunch of restaurants and retail complex also nearby where I convenientl returned redbox DVD. A little bit far from the beach but worth it for the price.

Hotel was nice. Breakfast room was small but they had a lot to choose from. The gym had nice & functional equipment. The room i stayed in had 2 queen beds that were comfortable. I would stay here again if I was passing through town.

The whole experience at this hotel was excellent - from the reception clerk to the breakfast staff - service couldn't have been better. Excellent value - for the price we were quite surprised at how nice this hotel was!!

Our family stayed here in late December in three separate rooms. The rooms were spacious and very clean. Rooms in the back are very quiet, but those have no elevators. The breakfast room was too small to accomodate the number of guests that were there. It was sold out, so it may not always be so crowded. There is a mall across the street with easy access to restaurants and stores. The hotel is right off the exit from hwy 101, but no road noise.

Was headed out of town last min for new years eve, and decided to get a hotel for one night. Everything was great, but the walls were pretty thin and I could hear my neighbors. The heater was pretty loud, but not a huge deal since I sleep with some kind of noise on. Staff was very nice, and had no problems checking in or out. Room was very clean.

Our stay was very comfortable! Our room was clean and had all we needed. Friendly Staff, great hospitality! Good location surrounded by restaurants and close to downtown. We really enjoyed staying here.

I liked staying in this hotel because, it was inexpensive and clean. The receptionist was very helpful and friendly. The amenities the hotel had was great. We were unable to have breakfast because we wanted to leave early in the morning, but the food looked good. Very important to me & my husband.

Staff very courteous and helpful - reserved two rooms because we were meeting up with relatives. They gave us adjacent rooms and didn't have any logistical problems reserving both rooms under my card and then allowing the relatives to check in and pay for their room under their card (at a different hotel earlier this year the hotel's computer system wasn't able to do this). Rooms were clean and quiet with all the basics - hair dryer, fridge, coffee maker, microwave. If you're on the first floor like we were, you *do* hear the footsteps of the people upstairs - fortunately for us, the upstairs guests didn't stay up late or get up early so this wasn't a problem. Breakfast area is clean and well stocked with the basics - two mini-waffle makers, cereal, toast, muffins, fruit, etc.

A month ago I mentioned the grounds were in bad shape. Rain, gardening efforts and attention are overcoming this last area of need! The new pillow and mattresses were nice and the new elevator shows commitment for the long run. Each visit shows signs of upgrade. The lobby was being retiled on the last visit!

We were traveling for a wedding and decided on this hotel, since it was close to the reception. We made reservations well in advance, which proved to be best because the rates in the area went up dramatically. The room was clean and comfortable and very adequate , with a microwave for snacks.

Nicest people who work there and eager to help you. Also, fun evenings in the lobby with wine/beer tastings along with snacks. Staff is far better than you'd expect. I'd stay there over and over again if I had the opportunity to return to California.

Very dog friendly. This is first place I've been at that has an area just for dogs to go in. Unfortunately it's all dirt. Had a hard time getting my dog to go in the dirt. Average simple breakfast, but clean area. Room was nice size. They also have a free evening wine social. Description may say pool view, but getting to pool requires a long walk. Very strange layout. Wifi is terrible. Everyone seems to have the same password. I'm sure I'll stay again.

A well-maintained property. Front desk was most attentive to our request for a quiet room, greatly appreciated. Heating worked perfectly with a minimum of noise. Nice linens, extra blankets. Wi-fi weak. Breakfast could be much better, particularly if you'd rather not binge on carbs in the a.m. IHOP next door offers a 20% discount with room card. Well-located to downtown, though more easily done with a car.

We arrived at Midnight and the Royal Oak was easy to find from the SLO airport. The attendant was alert and playing some good music. The rooms were clean and pretty easy to access. If you have issues with stairs or such ask for an easy to access room as the hotel parking lots are in the hillside with a rolling landscape. The complimentary breakfast was great, make your own waffles, cereal, yogurt, juices, fruit, muffins ect. The wi-fi in the room worked well.

We enjoyed our our stay in San Luis Obispo. We had a very nice room, their staff awas very helpful and friendly. The pool and Jacuzzi were nice way to refesh and relax. The breafast sandwiches, fresh fruit and yougart were good too! We'll be back.

We stayed at this hotel for one night on our way to Los Angeles. We received a very warm welcome, and the staff were very helpful. The room was basic but very large and comfortable. The breakfast was good - there were lots of options. It was perfect for a stop off and we would stay here again. There are plenty of rester aunts in the vicinity - you don't have to venture far to find decent food.

We have stayed at this hotel in the past and are always happy. We appreciate the staff, the easiness of the place and its location. They go out of their way here to make guests feel welcome and even provide an evening reception with food, beer and wine. Will always book this property when in SLO. This stay we were in the process of moving back to Santa Cruz from Hawaii and so enjoyed the overnight as we were needing some rest!!!

We spent a couple of nights here and thought it worked out well. They accept pets, so we brought our lab. It ended up a good place, our dog had a nice small deck he could wonder out on, for fresh air and people watching. It was a busy place but generally quiet. Air conditioner was a bit loud. Would stay again with pet

This was one of and maybe the most relaxing and mellow room -- total experience that you could ask for . The décor and furnishings were very nicely thought through and executed making the rooms relaxing and comfortable. The staff from the front desk to the bell boys are great and are interested in you and your stay

I have stayed here before and I will stay again when in town. The staff are excellent, they helped us look for a specialty store at check in. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. The breakfast was satisfactory for our needs. Forgot about the Happy Hour, but that's okay, we were happy to be there. Will recommend to anyone I know that is staying in the area.

Upon arrival we mentioned our 25th anniversary. We were immediately upgraded. The staff were fabulous. The hotel was the cleanest. We received complimentary drinks and breakfast. We wish we could have stayed in the area longer. Dont look anywhere else for a hotel. You cant beat the price and the quality.

Another win for BW. place was nice and clean friendly staff and the place even had a Happy Hour with free beer!! ok so I had two free ones but you cant beat that after driving all day it was welcomed!! Next time I am staying in SLO I will be back.

Nice and clean very close to shops ,restaurants and tourist attractions. The breakfast offerings need to be upgraded to include hot items like eggs breakfast meats and potatoes. In the late afternoon starting at 5pm they offer a nice complementary beer ,wine and snacks to the guest.

Our church group who went to the Women's Conference did so by having fund raisers through the previous year so our money was budgeted carefully. Some of the ladies had NO extra cash for eating out. Royal Oak allowed our ladies group to bring in Pizza's and salads for a sit down meal to accommodate all 28 ladies . What a huge blessing for us.

Room was comfortable and large with a nice balcony overlooking the pool/hot tub area. There were even chairs on the balcony. The bathroom was really nice and roomy. Staff was friendly, helpful, and very accommodating. Would definitely stay there again.

Overall the hotel is fine, rooms looking into the pool/courtyard seem preferable, rooms could be upgraded/modernized, recommend better pet/dog relief area, just dirt in fenced area off parking lot. Hotel staff professional and pleasant.

Rooms are very nice and the beds are super comfortable. The staff is very nice and willing to make sure your needs are met. Would definitely stay again. The nice part of the stay is that the room had a refrigerator and a Microwave which makes it easier if you want your own food and drinks or need to heat something up quick.

Nice priced hotel, good staff, spacious rooms, Breakfast nice and plenty Good stop off for passing through, good too walk down Madonna Road to view the outrageous Madonna Inn. Plenty of eateries within the area

We were welcomed in the evening with a cheese and wine evening, which was a pleasant surprise. Our room was very comfortable. Liked having a balcony to sit and enjoy a wine, albeit overlooking the car park. Staff were very helpful. Great breakfast and dining area. Excellent value for money.

No real complaints, other than the hallway outside our room was at least 95 deg for some reason. Spent a comfortable, quiet night here. Wish we had time to make use of the pool area, looked really inviting. Large and lots of seating. This place looks more like a modest Caribbean resort from the 70's. All in good repair and clean, just a bit dated looking. One minor thing - while it was nice to have a balcony overlooking the pool area, it came with a roughly 2 zillion watt overhead bulb that could not be shut off. I would have liked to sit peacefully on the balcony without feeling like I was under a spotlight.

This was my second stay in this Hotel. I think it is a great location,convenient to downtown SLO. Both times I stayed here I had an excellent experience. Friendly staff, clean comfortable room .I will stay here any time I come to SLO.

This Best Western is very nice and wonderfully dog friendly with a gated area in the back for your dog to run free a bit and do potty duty. They even provide bags and a disposal can... awesome! The room was very clean even with a sterilized remote for the TV. Pleasantly decorated and the bed was very comfortable. My husband who travels on business a lot and usually stays in another Brand Hotel was pleasantly pleased.
