This is a nicely decorated modern hotel located right on the edge of the entertainment and dining district. We were there for one night, mid-week, and while the district was somewhat busy, we had no issues with noise in our room. The room was modern, with a bar along one wall with high bar stools that afforded us a view of the city below. The bed was comfortable. Good quality bedding and towels. Staff were friendly and efficient. Check in and check out were fast. The relief on the wall by reception which depicts a Buffalo Jump was a conversation starter. Very large parking lot with easy access to and from the interstate.
Unless you are into the downtown nightlife scene, there is no reason to pay as much as these rooms cost. The room is small, there is no fridge or microwave and it's very noisy because of it's location. There is a sign at the front desk warning about the noise but, by the time you see that warning, you've already checked in and paid for the room.
My husband and I chose the Best Western Rushmore hotel because we were arriving a day early for a group tour that began there. The hotel's main clientele seems to be tour groups. We found it to be attractive and In a convenient location in town for souvenir shopping and restaurants. Staff were welcoming and very helpful. However, the hotel has no pool or Jacuzzi. Our room was comfortable, fairly spacious, but lacking in amenities… no microwave, no safe, although they did provide a pod-type coffee maker and small fridge. There were two big down-sides to our stay: 1. Although the restaurant food was available in the bar, or through room service, the restaurant was closed to accommodate tour groups only. 2. The closest grocery store or pharmacy is not within reasonable walking distance.
Nice hotel but offered ear plugs for noise from boy racers at night. Room was ok (but basic as we had booked a deluxe room). Car park was convenient and easy to access. Breakfast was ok but buffet. No local convenience stores. Easy to walk around town.
Great downtown location and pleasant staff. My room had a rustic buffalo wall theme decor fitting or the Black Hills. Our class reunion was nearby as were many stores and museums. The staff was helpful and there was ample free parking in the hotel lot. I can recommend this hotel.
Great location. Rooms were clean but outdated. The 1 star review is for the breakfast buffet I stayed 4 nites first nite sausage gravy had sausage in it everyday after watered down no sausage. The pancakes were like cardboard no taste. On the third day Everything was burnt I heard so many people complaining Saying it was absolutely inedible I ate oatmeal the last 3 days that's what they give you when you're on the bus tour and breakfast is included they could care less I saw the people that ordered breakfast at the hotel and their food looked good but what they give the bus tour Buffet is horrible
Staff when registering on the phone were extremely helpful and accommodating. Hotel lobby is beautiful.Room was missing a refrigerator and we did hear traffic and trains during the night. However room was clean and comfortable. It is in a walkable nice area of downtown Rapid City
The hotel should have been better, the room was OK except for the 3AM train that sounds it's horn. We were with a group and used it's breakfast buffet, what a subpar showing. The eggs were a weird gray color and the other choices were fried carbs. The four Self-Service coffee pot all ran dry, the cereal section was unclean. Had a steak dinner there, they need a new cook.
Dated decor. Housekeeping did little more than change towels. Did not clean countertop. Dust on fixtures like lamps. Only two elevators, which made for long waits at busy times like breakfast. Cannot get to lobby by the stairwell. Breakfast was okay and plentiful, but got a little old by day 3. On the bright side all of the downstairs staff were very pleasant and helpful. The hotel is in a great location, right next to the old downtown area.
Great location, downtown Rapid City. The staff was friendly and helpful. The front desk, bar personnel and shuttle drivers. Only negative had to do with a 10in x8in spot on the shower curtain. I would stay again. This downtown location was perfect for visiting. Great town.
The hotel is nice hotel though it can be somewhat noisy. Railroad runs along one of its sides and blows whistle at 2:30AM. Our room was along main road and motorcycles, Harleys tended to be loud at times. We are used to road noise so no problem. Room itself was nice except double beds in our room. We are used to King so we slept separately. Room was very clean, beds comfortable so no complaints with temperature or amenities - we did ask for body wash since we didn't have any and bars of soap were very small. It offers a breakfast buffet which we utilized. Many items on it, only problem we had was two days no one monitored the Hot Tables. First day food was warm not hot, Second day food was cold. We brought it to the attention of our server and she mentioned the Hot Table was broke. I told front desk of problem and the last day food was hot. Location, you can't get wrong. Very good restaurants within 3 blocks walking. Overall good place to stay.
Right in the center of everything. And even better, it has two options for eating: a bar that offers food and drinks from 11 am to 10 pm. Friendly staff and generous menu. The Enigma restaurant is upscale, white table cloth type place with steaks and chops type meals. They also serve breakfast there. Knowledgeable staff are truly helpful. Highly recommended.
Stayed at the Rushmore Hotel for just one night in mid-May. The hotel is right downtown, close to many bars, restaurants, and shops which we loved. The front desk does have a sign noting that on weekend nights the street noise can be quite loud because of the central location of the hotel so if you're looking for quiet, this might not be the hotel for you. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The bathroom had a sliding door which doesn't provide the most privacy, otherwise the room was great. I would definitely stay here again!
This hotel is located centrally in a lovely downtown full of restaurants and shops. There were wonderful choices of places to eat and listen to music. We were there at the end of the Sturgis Bike Rally and that made for some really great observations. The hotel itself is clean, and has all the amenities we were looking for. The staff were knowledgeable and very timely (as in getting a shuttle to the airport). The room was clean and very nice. I would definitely stay again and recommend to friends.
We had a wonderful stay at The Rushmore. We were not there for Sturgis. Our 36 foot camper was a bit out of place in the parking lot full of motorcycles and their trailers. Parking was an adventure but the hotel staff was amazing and so helpful in getting us space and an exit strategy. We also walked all the president statues…so fun.
We had happy hour at the 445. Sophia, Cory and John were phenomenal! Great service and very entertaining!😀The rooms are always clean! Great location on Main Street to walk to many restaurants, bars and unique shopping experiences. Even a Escape Room.
We would certainly stay here again. Perfect for a one night visit- so convenient to highway and the main attractions in Black Hills. While the room was super clean, the outside of hotel and parking lot were a bit unkept- not a great first impression.
This had incredibly comfortable bedding and pillows for a much-needed rest after our flight. It's easy to walk to downtown and. Heck out the president statues and food. It looks like a stadium is very close as well. It's not too far from Mt Rushmore and Custer State Park. The staff was friendly.
It's an older building that has been recently "renovated", but I have to use that term very loosely. The rooms have obviously been redone in an attempt to make them feel more modern- but if the bones of the place aren't renovated....the place is still going to look old and worn out. There was only one mirror in the entire room (in the bathroom), which makes getting ready difficult when someone is in the shower. The shower was awful as the water had the very distinct odor of boiled egg farts. The mattress was covered in stains (I do a full bug check in every single hotel room we stay in. That ALWAYS includes stripping the bed down to the bare mattress.) The food from the restaurant downstairs was equally as disappointing. Unfortunately, we had VERY few options as we were traveling with a pet and it was a holiday (4th of July) so there were literally 2 options. This was the lesser of the two evils but if we ever have the misfortune of passing through Rapid City ever again, I'll most likely sleep in my car. There is plenty of parking. So if that's a concern for you, you're good to go.
Great stay. Nice clean rooms. Comfortable bed. Great location near lots of bars and restaurants within walking distance. Hotel also has a nice bar and restaurants inside it. Plenty of parking. We would stay here again when we are back in town.
The hotel was very nice however there were just a couple things to note. One - it would be very helpful to have outlets or a charging station near the beds. Also, the carpet could use a cleaning. Besides those two things, the room was spacious, bathroom was tidy and the shower pressure was good.
After dropping off our rental car and getting a lift to Best Western's Rushmore Hotel and Suites ($199.97 per night) for our last night in SD, we were pleased to find out our room was ready. Two queen beds (significantly cheaper than one king) and an all-around nice set up right in the heart of the three main downtown streets. I originally booked us at Hotel Alex Johnson, an historical hotel, but after reading someone's review of the Best Western, the writer mentioned the BW offers a $10 each airport shuttle beginning at 4:30AM. Taxis and Ubers seemed unreliable in the early morning hours when I talked to various hotel clerks, so I switched our resy to the BW. Glad we did. The hotel's own shuttle bus, with room for maybe 12?, met us promptly in the lobby at 5:10A, loaded our bags and those of 3 other couples, and we were at the airport fifteen minutes later. The room was clean and airy. The bathroom had plenty of counter space for toiletries. The aircon worked well. Had a great night's sleep. Definitely would recommend the hotel.
Very convenient location downtown with Walkability to coffee shops, restaurants, breweries, and bars. Staff were friendly and polite. Rooms were in good repair. Only concern is lack of sound insulation under doors of adjoining rooms. This let in even normal volume conversations and tv to be clearly heard. I accidentally found that putting a rolled damp towel from my morning shower dampened the sound adequately. Otherwise, a very good place to stay.
Quiet, safe, comfortable, and cozy. My first time to South Dakota and was welcomed by wonderful hospitality.
The Rushmore is a very nice hotel with a great entry--the floor tiles of Rushmore are awesome. However, one side of the hotel is almost next to train tracks which are loud throughout much of the night. The other problem is there were many motorcycles and "loud tuner" cars on the streets throughout the night.. The hotel is located in a town with not much of a downtown personality--somewhat boring. After a few minutes of viewing the "City of Presidents" statutes and listening to some background comments, there is not much left to do. Keystone is closer to the Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorials. Too bad because the hotel and staff are otherwise excellent except the breakfast buffet was not very warm the three mornings we were there.
When I had a bad experience at the Alex Johnson Hotel, I came here instead. The rates were better, the property is much nicer, and the service is a lot better! The location is just as convenient. Plus there's free parking. I'll be staying here from now on!
We stayed st this hotel as part of a tour. Let's start with the good. It is a great location, in the middle of everything. At noon our room was ready, the staff was friendly, the drinks in the bar were great, bottled water was a buck and the bar food was awesome and no bed bugs that we could see. Now the bad; the room was not clean. There was dust on every piece of furniture, so much dust that you could write clean me in it. There was dust on the alarm clock, dust on the water glasses and dust on the ice bucket. Furnishings looked like they were sourced at local garage sales The carpet was dirty, if you walked around in your bare feet they got dirty. The mattresses were sagging, you could see the indentations where people slept. The AC was super loud, but at least it drowned out the trains that rolled by during the night. The tracks were just across the parking lot. For a Sunday night, there was no food service after 6 PM. Who closes restaurants at 6PM in a hotel? Rushmore hotel, you have to do better. If your hotel is an example of a GW Premier property, I would be scared to stay in a standard GW hotel. Don't be fooled by the photos, they must be from a decade ago because they are not representative of the current condition of the property.
Great location. Very comfortable bed and great air conditioning. Staff was friendly and accommodating. They let us have an early checkin. Property has nice amenities. Walking distance to many restaurants. Free parking was a plus. We were on top floor with a great view.
I've stayed at the Rushmore multiple times for business and pleasure. The staff is always courteous and helpful. The hotel is always clean and fresh. The location is convenient and close to many great restaurants and attractions. I highly recommend the Rushmore Hotel.
Comfortable, clean rooms and great location in downtown Rapid City. Not up to par with other BW properties as far as amenities and staff. Front desk and bar and grill staff give off “snooty” vibe. Not welcoming. Rooms are cool but getting dated….they are remodeling so some things aren't working properly. Location does make up for a lot, however.
Our car was vandalized in their parking lot. Overnight security they said all night in parking lot. NOOOOOOOOO they were rude and said it has nothing to do with them, NOTHING they will do. Hotel is run down and you pay well over $200/night to stay. RUDE RUDE RUDE save your money DO NOT go here.
Was profiled when I walked in and put in run down room. Wood on door was chipped, ceiling was bare unfinished concrete, someone had been laying on the bed as there were big indentations, carpet was in need of replacing, it was dark and dingy also. Phoned front desk and they put us in a better room but one bed was so worn on one side you had to sleep on the other side so you didn't roll off.
I stay here every couple of months. All gym equipment was working well. Housekeeping was prompt and professional. Restaurant staff was kind and personable. The shuttle made a special trip to retrieve from dropping off a rental car. Best visit so far
This hotel was a great bargain, especially being Memorial Day weekend. Room was spacious and clean. Staff was excellent
Great hotel!! Rooms were very comfortable and it was centrally located to all the National Parks and other attractions. Easy on and off the interstate and was within walking distance of several good restaurants. Front desk staff was very helpful.
Kenny and the team at the Rushmore hotel are fantastic hosts! My parents visited the Rushmore as part of their US parks trip and celebrated their anniversary while on the trip. The team went above and beyond to make their stay special. The suite they stayed in was spacious and clean, with separate sleeping and living rooms and a kitchen. The location is great, and would absolutely recommend staying at the Rushmore Hotel!
Could not be more accommodating. The GM could not do enough nice things for us. The hotel is nice and right downtown easy to walk to a bunch of restaurants a definite gem. Now I am filling words because trip advisor is stupid and is counting words
This hotel is awesome. The staff is very friendly and helpful. When I checked in I had trouble walking and they offered me a wheelchair and gave me a ride to urgent care. The rooms are clean and the breakfast at the restaurant was good. I highly recommend this hotel when you are in the area. It is conveniently located near Mount Rushmore.
Staff was insistent the confirmation I had was for another property. Staff was not very pleasant once my room was located. There were blood stains on the towels and staff were not willing to replace when requested. The window was opened by staff and there were papers on the desk that blew all over the room. Staff could have been more aware of the papers. Staff entered the room but did not take the trash or make the bed.
The Rushmore is an older hotel , but it is always updated . Rooms are big , clean and the staff is excellent . Last stay I left my wallet and they called and held it for me , everything was there . Located downtown Rapid City , close walk to plenty of restaurants , breweries and cocktail bars . Lots of night life . The hotels restaurants are excellent for those who wish to dine without venturing out and two cocktail lounges also .
Great customer service. I come back every year and stay here every time. Very clean rooms. Great staff. I always recommend people to stay here.
First the good points: Great downtown location for bars and restaurants. The staff especially in the 445 were very nice. That's it pretty much. The rest: The room: Our room was 922. We were there 9-12 April. Our room was in a disgraceful condition. It was shabby and broken I've attached photos showing the state of it: The tatty worn chairs; The hanging space and weird light/pipe configuration; Broken flooring; No idea what's happened to that bed headboard; Dirty lights and lumps out of the ceiling. We could not get the room warm. The windows were incredibly drafty. We ended up using the sticky paper from a lint roller to seal them a bit. You plug didn't work in the sink The toilet flush was faulty. Missing light switch knob. etc etc. Regarding other issues: I had to go to the desk on two separate days as no coffee sachets had been left. The beds weren't made up the whole of our stay. We had to go back down to reception every single day as the room cards stopped working daily. Of course we only found out when we had come in and gone up to the room. Every day. I read the reviews and knew that I'd only get the standard anodyne GW reply. And having had a peek at another room I didn't think the hassle of asking for another room would be worth it. It was booked as part of a 3 week USA tour by Trailfinders and I'll obviously be feeding back to them to stop them using it. I think it was probably the location that sold it. I'm at a complete loss as to how GW think this place is premium. It desperately needs completely refurbished. Don't stay there.
The hotel was in a great location and our room was beautiful. The staff were very friendly and Helpful. After a few long days of driving this hotel is just what we needed to relax and unwind in such a great environment. Would highly recommend this hotel.
The place was fine upon first review. Friendly front desk and bar staff. The room itself was however quite problematic. It smelled unclean and I was disgusted by the fact that my bed linens smelled and appeared unchanged and were clearly not laundered from the previous guest use.
Bed was made daily bathroom cleaned new towels replaced daily. Definitely will stay there again when I come to visit rapid city . Cus service was awesome. Shuttle was available whenever I needed it. The place was clean. The serving the 445 bar and eatery was excellent.
Great hotel!! Nice rooms and the staff are great. Loved having a bar and restaurant within the facility. The shuttle service was nice also allowing us to just park and enjoy our stay. Just blocks away from some downtown restaurants also. We will be staying again soon.
The Rushmore is the place to stay! The rooms are clean and the beds are super comfy. The Rushmore was completely sold out and they were super busy but that didn't effect the service that we received. The staff was amazing. Katy, Devin, Zac and Austin the 445 Crew make an awesome team and work hard to keep the customers happy and satisfied. Everyone at the front desk were kind and helpful. The shuttle service is great. The steaks we ate were delicious they have great chefs!
Decent. You can walk anywhere: a good Indian place, bars, a good “American cuisine”/burger joint and shopping etc it's a great place and they're super kind. The rooms are just regular and there's no pool/hot tub but there are lots of outlets in said rooms so…that's good.
The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room was comfortable and the location is perfect for restaurants and downtown shops. That they are pet friendly was wonderful. We enjoyed our stay very much.
The only thing with this hotel was room I was in was very loud. Traffic noise as well as the noise from the other room was very loud. I requested a room change but was not able to get one. Motel was clean.
Overall nice enough hotel for a quick night or two (I've stayed about 6 times in the last 3 years), but service/housekeeping has really slipped. Not once in 4 days was my toilet bowl cleaned. Towels were jammed half-folded into the shelves, and the towel on the rack was repeatedly replaced (do we not understand floor=replace and rack=keep?). In fact the only thing I could really see that they did in coming in the room was to make the bed.
The online description failed to mention that a train track ran right alongside the hotel and that the trains went by with constant horn blowing throughout the night. There is a sign on the front desk offering to provide ear plugs. Also, most Best Westerns have refrigerators in the room. Our room had none.
How is this considered a premiere??? Ok. The lobby is gorgeous and check in staff are friendly. After that? Not worth it. The room was filthy. Behind the door was about a quarter inch thick layer of dirt the length of the door. Aka staff cleans with the door open but never cleans behind the door. The ceiling is in disrepair with exposed pipes. If you are light sensitive beware. The lights are fluorescent which was very painful. On to sleep quality. Ever see the movie My Cousin Vinny? Know how he is always woken up by the train? That's this hotel right here. Multiple times a night the train went through blaring its horn. And I dont mean a little toot toot. I mean a HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNKK. HHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNK. for a minimum of 2 minutes. If that didn't get you then the construction did. Speaking of construction...we got evacuated because the construction crew hit a gas line. My husband and I were both very sick when we got to the hotel and were trying to rest when this all happened. We had to climb down 7 flights of stairs sick as dogs then sit in the parking lot because we were told not to start our car in case the ignition sparked the gas. No compensation for any of this inconvenience. I will say though that the staff handled the evacuation very smoothly and professionally and the fire department was thorough and friendly. The firemen saw we were sick and tried to keep us updated and checked on us a few times. Hidden cost allert: don't expect a fridge in your room. It's $10 per night to rent one. Personally I will stick with my regular Best Western and the Plus level. Premieres are more expensive and give you less. Seriously. South Dakota and no fridge???
Due to a rupture in the gas lines leading into the hotel there was no hot water until 10pm. This WAS NOT the hotels fault but the city's. Regardless, as a guest I expected hot water and my disappointment is due to the hotel's lack of solution and/or compensation for the problem. It was dark when I checked in and hot and sweaty from a day of hiking and there was no offer to find me another hotel, or perhaps work with another hotel for showers only or maybe a local gym's locker room. My room could have been cleaner. The staff at check in was welcoming and professional. I did not have any cups in my room and housekeeping responded quickly to my request. I checked out early the next morning and the young man on the counter had in his Bluetooth headphones and was watching something on his computer or phone. When I set down the keys, he glanced up and did a quick nod as a good bye. Although the review in whole sounds nit-picky, I have not gotten over the no solution to the hot water incident and probably would not have mentioned the other issues except they became pronounced since I was already unhappy.
location is convenient and that's about it. our room was some bizarre configuration with a spiral staircase that led to a downstairs (?) what i'll call grotto area with a big hot tub and 1/2 bath. a used soap on side of hot tub. that's ok, never planned to get in it. bed was stiff, uncomfortable with a blanket that was like a kleenex. one tiny wastebasket in bathroom and no more. the bath products provided were the pumps on the wall and all different brands. terrible shower. dirty wine glasses outside our door upon arrival, and still there the next day. all day. no usb port to be found. used the ironing board as a shelf for my clothes as no storage. after being begrudgingly greeted for breakfast (sorry to bother the grumpy old man) the buffet was a joke. buffet? the chafing dishes were covered with towels, yes towels, which were steamy and wet, and everyone had touched them. scrambled eggs were hard and dry, french toast sticks (?) were inedible, and oj in plastic see thru dispenser had separated and was like kool aid, fruit was canned fruit cocktail, bread was still in the bags from the grocery store, no pastry or muffins or bagels or … coffee terrible. thank goodness for yoplait yogurt and granola. just a really bad experience.
Iconic hotel in Rapid City centrally located with easy access to local restaurants and shops. The hotel room was modern, large, comfortable and clean. The bathroom had bright red granite tops (slightly odd in our view) and our shower was not great. There was plenty of hot water but the shower jets were corroded up so we had just a couple of jets working. Staff were friendly and helpful, Breakfast was plentiful but the hot food was cold or at best only just warm. Overall we had a pleasant stay at the hotel and would return again, but we would skip breakfast and eat down the road at someplace else.
I enjoyed my stay at the Rushmore Hotel. The lobby area had some beautiful artwork, the staff was friendly and helpful, the rooms were spacious and clean. The breakfast buffet was very plentiful with good oatmeal. My favorite was you could buy cold water in the lobby for one dollar. It was sooo hot, that was a great added touch. Great location to downtown and Monument Park.
*very* comfortable / comfortably-sized, clean, modern, well-appointed room in a location that makes it very easy to get around rapid. additionally, *modestly* priced airport shuttle service -- and a most accommodating front-desk (and housekeeping) staff. thank you, victoria et al.! ;-)
They do not do a through cleaning of the rooms. Staff at the desk not friendly and rude. Staff at the restaurant was rude and not friendly but waiter very attentive. The lounge restaurant great place to eat and drink.
Very convenient Great staff. Very helpful and courteous. Would definitely come back in the future. Room was clean and everything worked to expectations. Room was comfortable and had expected amenities
This is a great place to stay, already looking forward to our visit next year! The breakfast is great, expecially if Reese is your server. He is a kind and attentive person and we enjoyed our time with him. The hotel's location is perfect too!
Living downtown, we are used to some level of noises. When we arrived, the front desk had a little flyer warning of noises due to its downtown location. What we didn't know was there was a live band playing music so loud we could hear every drum beat from our 7th floor room. The front desk offered ear plugs but those really didn't help. Either the music was so loud or the building was just not built with any soundproofing at all. Had we known about this, we would've stayed elsewhere. We just needed a one-night rest in town.
Devin is the best bartender we have ever had. The food was amazing. Conversation was interesting and witty. Five stars. Will come back for the bar service alone. He made me feel like I was welcome when I'm not from the area!
On a Gate One Tour this was the chosen Hotel. Nice clean rooms location within two blocks of downtown area which has little going on. Front staff is wonderful helpful and always smiling. Bathroom needs a definite upgrade and lighting need to be redone in the rooms. Breakfast Buffet was not good at all but I get it. Large group to feed and get them going. Beds we're comfortable. Towel's were very thin. Would I choose this again if I had to come back I don't think so.
Hotel was in an excellent location but other best westerns offer better rooms and more amenities that are not part of elite collection. Dissapointed that when I asked for batteries for the remote and they said someone would be up that no one ever came.
Clean, comforters hot but no blankets available, beds are comfortable, but we travel with own pillows, no bkfs they have a place to eat but there are many coffee shops all within walking distance so if you don't want to pay for a big breakfast explore all the neat coffee shops around town, no refrigerator, right downtown so you can walk to almost everything. town has a main street square and various activities going on. 1st-2nd week of August is Sturgis rally so avoid or pay higher prices.
The hotel was expensive for what we received. The photo was deceiving when you look quickly through photos and it appeared this hotel had a pool. It did not. That was disappointing. Does not include breakfast! Our room had stains on the duvet cover. The room came with 2 bath towels when it was 2 queen beds. We had to request more towels for the first evening. We had 2 adults and 2 children staying in the room. Then in the middle of the night we had a train go by TWICE that woke all of us up. What a disappointment. We left after only staying 1 night when we were supposed to stay 3 nights total. We got charged an extra fee, but we couldn't stay any longer as we didn't get any sleep due to the train noise in the middle of the night. VERY disappointed in this hotel. Unfortunately I do not recommend.
When we travel we look for Best Western accommodations. We've been very satisfied time and again. But The Rushmore Hotel and Suites disappointed us. Although you earn BW points for your stay, it is apparently not a true Best Western. We were in for a few surprises. This hotel had nice rooms at a premium price, but unlike the true Best Westerns, there was no mini fridge, no microwave, no bottled water at check in, no pool, no breakfast included. True, there is a restaurant on site where you could pay to eat breakfast. The A/C was extremely loud to the point it was not possible to have a normal conversation in the room. Hot rods and motorcycles paraded on the street below us, and although we were on the 5th floor, it was very noisy until after 10 pm. I should have read the small print to be sure the Rushmore had all the things I was looking forward to. If the missing amenities are ok with you, then the Rushmore may be fine, but we were disappointed. I'll go elsewhere next time.
This hotel is generally ok. The room was dated but generally clean but had an odor within that was a bit strange. The clock radio did not work. I booked this hotel in large part due to its airport shuttle. Despite making a reservation for the morning airport shuttle, we arrived at the lobby 2 minutes late. It left without us. There was no warning that it would be this prompt when I made the reservation over a day in advance. The man at the desk was completely unhelpful and just kept referencing “policy.” Do not use this hotel if you are going to the airport.
The sheets were so thin. Very uncomfortable bed. These hotels (all of them) need to check rust and crud and mildew stains in their bathrooms. I would have given 5 stars if not for that. This is a very nice hotel (not motel) otherwise. The desk attendants are friendly. Great location. Walk to restaurants.
This was about the most up and down stay I have ever had in a hotel, there was quite a bit wrong but the staff made up for it. I was there for my Vietnam group reunion so we needed a central hotel that could accommodate 100 people with all the facilities required, hospitality room, banquet facilities etc. On this they get five stars. We checked in and went to our room, I upgraded to be on the "Presidential Flood" ninth floor had to use your room key in the elevator to get there. We went to our room but there was a very confused man already there, we went back to the desk and they gave us another room. I don't know if all the rooms were the same, this one looked like a spare room only used when all the rest were sold out. Small list of problems, not enough towels, no hangers in the closet, especially necessary since there was no dresser, no soap in the dispensers, used coffee packet in the coffee maker which had no plug close by, had to move it to plug in. All in all I have stayed in much better but now on to the plus side. The staff hustled and everything was fixed within 30 minutes, the bed was quite comfortable, we had a nice view. I'm fairly flexible, in my opinion if you aren't when you travel it ruins everything so I would stay there again under the same circumstances, we were there about eight days and the bill was about what two nights would be in a mid range Las Vegas hotel so couldn't complain about that. The only true complaint I have is that only one of the two elevators was working and it had been that way for a long time, since I asked the desk clerk what would happen if the one broke and she said oh it does every now and then so we let the guests use the freight elevator. I hate to think the log jam that occurs during the busy season. One other the location was great, right in the middle of everything, the food at the café for breakfast was good and the staff gets five stars, everyone we ran into was working their butts off since they seem understaffed but their attitude was always good.
The hotel is located right downtown. Great location. Water pressure is horrible. House keeping decided to have a concert/staff meeting in the hallway at 8am. No regard for guests. I would stay somewhere else in Rapid City. Wont be back
Hotel manager have failed at the basics….terrible internet, poorly cleaned rooms and untrained front line employees. management needs to return calls and focus on the customer experience. Will never stay here again
My family checked in a couple days ago for the holiday weekend. Hotel is nice, very inviting, and well kept. Our room was clean and comfortable. We were exciting to see that there would be a live band on New Years Eve. The band was very good and we enjoyed ourselves. It wasn't until we were walking back to our room we saw the front desk gal that checked us in (she was not working at this time) in the lobby area. She was being very loud, possibly intoxicated, and flashing her breasts at everyone around . Some were taking pictures. Very unprofessional in my opinion and not a good look for your company.
This is a great property in an awesome location in Rapid City. Best staff in the business (Victoria is my favorite) and even offers a shuttle service to the airport 10 miles away. Great rates and a memorable place to stay!
Stay someplace else! Is my best advice. This hotel is poorly managed. The front desk is responsible for when the housekeeping happens and they don't come in automatically and you have ask for service. But good luck if you get it. Also service staff in the restaurant for breakfast was two grumpy men who didn't care how fast they moved. The same two men for 5 days and not once did they crack a smile. And the buffet is not great and when you do ask for something off the menu, for additional charge, it takes forever. Only thing good about this hotel is the location!! Also it is very noisy from the street even on the 9the floor and when I asked if my room could be moved to the opposite side, and not on the Main St side, she said both sides where noisy and offered me ear plugs. And remember you get what you pay for so for the rate of $119 a night do not expect soft tissues or toilet paper or nice sheets!!! Also not sure who designed the rooms and thought for two adults in the king bed size room that two tiny draws were good enough to use to unpack . The blinds on the windows were tricky to use, took two of us to figure it out, and the fancy modern lights they have dont give off great light if you can find the on off switches.
We have stayed in numerous hotels over the years and this was by far the worst!!! I can't believe Best Western would let them list this as a premiere hotel or even a Best Western! We stayed on the presidential floor in a presidential suite. We didn't see anyone else up there and when we entered our room, we totally understood why! 30+ year old furniture and carpet. Very small and filthy! I used Clorox wipes on all the surfaces and they were black. I am not kidding!!! The windows were dirty and the chairs had food and whatever all over them! The only thing clean was the bedding and our bathroom was somewhat clean. I wore my socks on the carpet and I had to put my shoes back on. We were suppose to stay a second night and canceled. The young man at the front desk when we checked out could of cared less when I told him about it. Would not recommend!!!
Excellent hotel for its age. Great location, walking distance to food and entertainment. Short drive to chain restaurants. Nothing fancy about the rooms, they have everything you need. I would definitely stay here again.
Very clean, modern hotel in the heart of downtown Rapid City. We did not go to the restaurant or bar but it looked very nice. This hotel is walking distance to Main Street Shops & Park as well as Presidents Statues on street corners. There are a lot of restaurants in the area. The bonus is FREE PARKING
This is within in walking distance of most things in historic downtown. Word of warning, however, if you have your own vehicle. Plan to spend some time in the evenings waiting for a parking spot to open up.
Wonderful experience. The Rushmore is centrally located and everyone on the Staff was overwhelmingly accommodating. Especially the Hotel Manager Stacy. We can't speak highly enough about the great service we had. Everyone from the Airport Shuttle, the Front Desk, the Restaurant and Housekeeping were so pleasant and Customer Service minded. If you are taking a trip to Rapid City, this is the Hotel to stay at.
Quiet, clean, helpful staff. Great location! All in all a 5 star stay. We did not use the restaurant associated with the hotel only because we wanted to get out and walk. Great coffee about a block away and many good food choices within a two block radius.
We found this hotel clean and comfortable. Although breakfast isn't included with your stay we found the restaurant downstairs to be good and very reasonably priced. This hotel is also conveniently located to numerous pubs and restaurants within walking distance. The only issue I had during my stay was that the trains would blow their whistles at 3 &4 in the morning. I don't think that is within the control of the hotel though.
TL:DR: Don't bother with the "Presidential" level. BW & I stayed here for two nights while touring around the Black Hills. While pleasant enough, we would not return. To be clear, this review is of the "Presidential" ("upscale" extra-charge) area of the hotel. I booked this, thinking it would be something special for part of a second (54th?) honeymoon. In some ways, it was perfectly acceptable. Quiet, top-floor room accessible only by key card. Mural graphics of local attractions as wallpaper. Designer chair and ottoman. A really good bed. So, not terrible. But it fell WAY short of extraordinary accommodation for extraordinary price. For example, despite being an "exclusive" area of the hotel, there was no routinely-expected "Presidential" lounge available to the guests who pony up. Towels were exchanged in the bath, but the bed was intentionally not made. This so-called limited service was stressed, along with the repeated "Breakfast is for PURCHASE!" admonishment at check-in. In the bath, the provided shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were in cheap dispensers, hard to use, and the body wash simply refused to come out. The freezer in the in-room refrigerator was so encrusted with ice that we couldn't get an ice cream bar into it. The in-room coffee maker dispensed the cheapest "something" that was mostly undrinkable. Power outlets were inadequate to charging today's routinely carried electronics. The "desk" (a long, narrow bar along one wall) was plainly designed for form over function. Only two dresser drawers; we had to keep most of our clothes in our luggage. And only two small (think old European hotel) elevators to serve nine floors of a tour bus hotel. Imagine the crush in the morning when everyone is trying to get downstairs to the bus. Net, not terrible. But not worth a return trip unless you are on an inexpensive cattle car tour of the Black HIlls in one of the cheaper lower floor rooms.
I would have loved to stay longer at this hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and updated. I felt like I was in a nice Las Vegas hotel room. We walked around the Rapid City town (located right out the front door). A safe area with lots of restaurants and bars and cute little shops. I definitely recommend this hotel and will be back one day.
The hotel staff were very accommodating and willing to help in any way they could. Now the buffet was not something to write home about . All the food was dry and bland. We ate early so there was no reason for that .I hope my review helps you and the problem gets fixed
The hotel is decent but I think it's priced based on location which is cool but the parking lot sucks the back entrance was closed between checking in and parking so I had to drive around 3 city blocks to get back to the lot. Paying for a mediocre breakfast was lame. Eat elsewhere
Stayed at property July 12-15, 2022; paid premium rates for location. Website and staff did not disclose the roaring trains adjacent to property that pass by in the middle of the night. Had to insist that management change my room location, and they finally did next day. Zero consideration or compensation for detriment caused and lack of sleep due to train noise. Not even restaurant vouchers. Further, credit card was overcharged $100 upon check in and took 1 week to clear. The general manager, Ms. Hull, has zero interest in timely correction of overcharge and zero accountability or responsibility for lack of disclosure about property sitting on top of railroad tracks. Trains known to pass by in early morning hours, with roaring noise and whistles. First night, trains passed at 130 and 530 am. Got zero sleep which impacted my ability to work the next day. ZERO disclosure on website, at reservation or upon check in about trains. Unfriendly, indifferent and unwelcoming management and environment.
I am giving a 4 star review versus a 5 only because of the premier status listed when booking. This is a great affordable family friendly hotel but it is NOT premier status. It is an older hotel which we weren't expecting due to the premier status. It was clean and they are dog friendly so that is a HUGE plus. We really loved the location, it was close to downtown but also only 20 minutes or so from Mt. Rushmore and just a little further from Custer State Park. They do serve breakfast here but we did not try it because we were up and on the road early and made a pit stop at Starbucks which is a couple blocks away.
The hotel is well located and an unmissable structure in the unremarkable downtown area of Rapid City and it has a large free car park. However that's about all the plus points. When we checked in (for four nights) we were told there would be no room service, in effect you make your own beds and if you want more towels and tea and coffee supplies come to reception. For crying out loud.... The public areas have a dated feel and reminded us of an Eastern European hotel circa mid 1980's. Our room on the 8th floor had the quirky and admittedly rather charming décor we'd seen on the web site but it was looking worn and had been stripped of any amenities. At least we were pleased to be on the opposite side to the railway track which we noted in previous reviews had caused some guest problems. This was nothing to what we experienced our first night. The hotel bar had an awful live rock band playing till midnight which kept us awake. When they'd finished, some dive across street (Sickies or Thirstys or some such place) took over and continued dreadful live music until past 2.00am. Then their patrons emptied out onto the street and continued to party until the police arrived and dispersed them. We asked to be moved to the other side of the hotel anticipating music again the following evening. As it happens there was none (and we never heard a train until the morning we were leaving). However, there is continual noise from the streets around the hotel and from the hotel plant. You do need ear plugs. We mentioned the noise and got a snotty reply from a member of reception - "you're in downtown Rapid City on a weekend" She barely stopped herself from adding "what do you expect". This second room was not as quirky as the first but was still worn and stripped down. There were no toiletries in the dispensers and the lamps did not work. there were too few towels and no coffee/tea supplies either (coffee was really cheap and thin). How can a hotel release a room like that without checking all the necessities first? Housekeeping did come and rectify all (except the non working lamps). Beds were okay, pillows were not. The bathroom was small but acceptable and we had a fridge that worked. We had breakfast in the hotel as part of our package. It was just acceptable (an indifferent buffet) but the staff on duty left a lot to be desired - miserable and not proactive, they so did not want to be there. Reception staff were not terribly accommodating either except one young man who was very personable and went out of his way to be helpful.
This place is a dump. The website is definitely deceiving. No refrig, no microwave, cheap coffee and condiments. Very noisy, no modern amenities... cheap towels and bathroom products. Air Conditioner so loud you can't hear tV at moderate volume.
I really liked the easy access to the hotel. The parking is free and plentiful with very little walking. Our family of six enjoyed the breakfast in the hotel. Although not free it is reasonably priced. The staff at the desk greeted us going in and out every time we went through the lobby. It is a secure card only elevator at night. It is within a block or two of shopping, eating and drinking. Nice area to sit outside and drink or eat. The band would be great for those who like live music. Our travel tours just put us to sleep in quiet rooms. The beds were amazingly comfortable and hard to get out of with an abundance of pillows. The tubs/shower have the on wall soaps and conditioners we all used. I would stay here again on another visit hands down.
Excellent location. Great front staff. Not the greatest breakfast, but clean rooms. Train near by, but expected for a western town. Lots of good places to walk to and visit. Don't just stay on Main Street - wander off!
We were very disappointed in this hotel it was one of the more expensive hotels that we stayed on during our three week adventure doing the national parks. We found it to be dated not as clean as I had hoped and it didn't provide us with a microwave or refrigerator and when I inquired about the refrigerator I was told it would be $10 a day for it. One thing I hate is being nickeled and dime every hotel we stayed in had a microwave in the refrigerator From the $99 hotel that we stayed in that was fabulous to this which was over 250 a night. It was centrally located although we did not walk into Rapid City it was in the middle of the city it did have a Restaurant it did not provide us with breakfast. this was a very disappointing hotel
Everything appeared ok until we got to the room. I was expecting a wall with Mt Rushmore on it like the pictures showed, that did not happen (kind of disappointing). And in the picture gallery there is a picture of a reception room with a dance floor. I thought it was a pool. I was really looking forward to the pool. Beds are very soft. Pillows even softer - nothing firm on these beds. Which is not a bad thing for some. No longer are the days of professional hotel employees that wear sharp hotel attire and act professional. This one is no different. Staff is short everywhere and you will see it here as well.
nice fairly large rooms, clean, helpful staff, nice restaurant (we had breakfast there), convenient location downtown- easy walking to shops and restaurants, you might hear a train in the evening- we did
Close to good restaurants and surroundings with Presidents statues at each corner of the block. Visited Mt Rushmore, Crazy horse and the National parks as well as Badlands and the Minuteman missile site- very conveniently located.
We wanted to be downtown so we could be close to places of interest. We chose this hotel as it is part of the Best Western family and we are members. When we pulled in to the hotel there were no identifying logos of best western so we were unsure if we were in the right place. We exited the car and immediately our conversation was drowned out by a blast of the passing train, blowing its horn. The track is about 100 feet away. We enter the lobby and again no logo for best western. We went to the counter to check in and the young lady confirmed we were indeed in the right place so we were quickly checked in and on our way to the room. This is an older building but they have updated the facade and decor of the rooms so it looks modern (but the industrial look is sterile, in my opinion). We were on the 6th floor but could hear the traffic and much of it was really loud. This went on throughout the night but once we were asleep it wasnt too much of a problem. However, the train horn at 4am was quite a nuisance. If I had to choose a downtown hotel again it would not be this one.
As we are on a bus tour, the walkability to Main Street is a priority. Hotel is close to restaurants and shopping. Bedding was comfortable. Room was basic and adequate. There is an active railroad track out back but the trains were not really a disturbance unless you are a light sleeper. Their housekeeping seemed obviously compromised by the nation's labor shortage. Upon arrival a corner of our room had fast food napkins, salt packet and a few random fries on the floor. Lobby staff explained on check in that housekeeping staff would not visit during our two day stay unless we specifically requested. That policy was understandable but the trash on the floor was not the best first impression. Breakfast buffet was below average but fine if you stuck to yogurt, fruit and oatmeal. One napkin at our table had lipstick on it from a previous customer. Ick. Staff was friendly and responsive to our request for extra towels.
We arrived here very excited but soon became very irritated by the cleanliness of the room. Bath was filthy, hairs on the toilet and in the draws. Thick dust on the side table where our heads would be when asleep. Floor needed a good hoover, water in the ice bucket from previous people, no iron or ironing board as advertised, nothing to stir drinks, lack sugar and milk. The room itself is outdated with alot of patchwork done to the ceiling. Overall very poor standards. When my partner went down to speak to the front desk the told us they had no other rooms so he asked if someone could come up and clean it. On returning they had gone over it but water still in ice bucket and dirt on floor. Not asking for 5 star accommodation merely what we paid for. Do not recommend
Was on business so spent less time at the hotel than average. Overall stay was pleasant. Access to front desk, parking was bit confusing for first time stay. Meeting amenities were good and food was very good.
The Rushmore is a comfortable hotel within walking distance to many restaurants in the center Rapid City [weather permitting] and an easy drive to Mount Rushmore. The staff is friendly and the rooms are spacious and clean with fun wall size murals of the surrounding areas which is a nice touch.
The staff and the accommodations are exceptional at this hotel. They bend over backwards to make sure you have a great experience. Located in the heart of downtown Rapid City this hotel is a great springboard for anyone who would like the explore the Black Hills of South Dakota
Hotel has nightclub that parties to 2 AM. Can hear every guest returning in the hallway while trying to sleep. Clubbers set fire alarm off at 11 PM, hotel staff apologized but did nothing. 3 of the “staff” telling us to return to rooms were not identifiable as staff - no name badges, no consistent dress, can only assume they work the nightclub. On checkout following AM, front desk philosophy was at least we know the alarm works, which is condescending to the guests. They need to decide if they want to run a hotel or a nightclub.
Lots of noise after 11 pm. People and kids yelling in the halls and banging on doors. Called the front desk, they did nothing. If you need to leave your pets in the room unattended, don't stay here! You have to sign a waiver at check-in. Stay somewhere else.
My family and I stayed at this hotel while stopping in to see Mt. Rushmore. It is a beautiful hotel right in the middle of Rapid City, near just about anything. My only complaint would be that there are no queen double rooms, only full sized beds. If that's not an issue, than this hotel is for you. Overall a great experience!
We stayed there during the first weekend of the BHSS & Rodeo. Amazing & friendly service and value. Great atmosphere. Shuttle service to and from Monument event center was a great perk. Excellent restaurant. Rooms were quiet and clean. I highly recommend this hotel and will be staying there again.
The hotel is beautiful and the decor in the rooms are fun. We had a great time visiting with staff in the lounge. Everyone was kind, friendly and professional, we will be back to visit when we can spend more time and we will stay here for sure!
The room felt unfinished. I could hear the conversation in the room next to mine. I could hear everyone in the hallway. I could hear the elevator every time it moved. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
The staff was fantastic and the hotel spotless. This was the most relaxation we have had with a hotel! The entire experience was perfect! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling in the Dakota area!
Stayed here for 3 nights w Trafalgar tour. Supposedly this and the Alex Johnson hotels are the best in the city. We stayed in the Dakota style rooms. Beware no refrig as we were told by our tour director. No microwave either. There was drilling in the concrete of a bathroom on our floor that was ungodly loud and went on for 45 min.just as everyone on our tour checked in. As mentioned there's a train- didn't bother us. Also in other posts there are bars w outdoor seating that is loud if your room faces Main Street. No partying was going on when we were there Pro: fast elevators, comfortable bed, water gets hot quickly Con: breakfast buffet foods are cold even tho they're on a steam table and no microwave to heat things up. Shower curtain bottom was icky (see photo), and the dimmest lighting of any room I've been in. Also was in a room bc w adjoining door to next room. You could hear noise from the room next door that carried.
home away from home. same bed as i have at home so I slept wonderfully. ordered room service and he was willing to make my food crispy how i like it. It was great. I felt pampered! i will always stay here when I travel to Rapid City
This hotel has a great location close to downtown and easy access to the routes to the National parks in the area. Just be aware, there are trains that come through each night @ 10 PM and 3AM and they use the horn for the crossing extensively! This is not a knock on the hotel, just a reality when you stay here. We thought the positives outweigh this negative. Great staff who are very friendly!
Large room with contemporary decor, comfortable bed, work surfaces, TV and functioning internet. A welcome change from the Spartan accommodations at the National Parks. The hotel was within walking distance ( 1-2 blocks) of the downtown restaurant, bar and shopping district. Great base location for day trip driving to the Badlands, Sturgis, Deadwood, Black Hills etc.
Warm welcome checking in and out, comfortable room, nice restaurant for breakfast and bar for evening enjoyments. Very friendly staff. Shuttle available to/from airport. Felt safe and convenient location for our plans.
Hotel was centrally located in town. Close to restaurants and shopping. Food was ordinary for breakfast buffet. Had refrigerator. Cool map on the room wall. Had live music on the weekend but we were not there to hear it. Had a nice firepit outside at night. .
The hotel is centrally located to all the shops and restaurants. The staff was very nice and helpful. Hotel room was okay, could use updating. Bar area was nice. Loud in the evening. We were on the fourth floor and could here the bar crowd on Friday and Saturday night in our room. Train tracks directly behind hotel and the conductor definitely knew how to use the horn. Restaurant offered a nice buffet breakfast.
room 922 9/17, 9/18, /2021. beautiful hotel situated on Main street. walking distance to bars, restaurants, breweries. wineries. newly remodeled. problem on weekends, it is very NOISY. Train tracks runs along one side of building. Most of the many bars have outside patios, close at 2 AM. people are yelling and talking loundly till 3 AM. Plus, the locals are really into small muscle cars with LOUD exhaust. they congregate 3-4 blocks from hotel at a large parking lot. then they use Main st. as a drag strip. i would not stay there again on a Friday or Saturday night. Other than bars, restaurants and tourists shops, there are no pharmacies or grocery stores within walking distance. DO try the hotel restaurant. it was way better and less expensive than any of the other restaurants we tried. The breakfast and dinners were all excellent .
Hotel was clean and updated. There were not enough outlets in the room to handle my CPAP and electronics and the USB port on the desk unit did not work. The housekeeping staff was great. There was no microwave in the room.
Had mold in the shower, disgusting and filthy toilet, filthy intake for the air conditioner which seem to be admitting really stinky air, and blood on the mattress pad. When I addressed it with the front desk, I was informed there was nothing they could do because it was booked through trip adviser. So when you have an issue with the hotel and you book the trip adviser you have no protection. I would never recommend this hotel.
I loved the hotel. I loved the theming of the guest room's decor, which matches up with the name of Rushmore. There is a high-end restaurant and a bar/lounge on location which is convenient. We had room service breakfast which arrived in 20 minutes. The food was good and hot. The coffee was hot (my happiness)! Really the only negative I had is there was no mini-fridge.
Loved this boutique hotel! Great details throughout. I will say the motorcycles at night were oftentimes VERY loud. I had to turn on white noise on my phone as they woke me up multiple times. Loved that hotel was within walking distance to shopping, food, and the presidents.
beautiful hotel . we were on the 8th floor it was such unquie styling it was a treat. tho the train runs right there. it ran through at 5 am and again at 6 am . not in the distance but it sounded like it went through ur room. other than that it was a nice room . we had breakfast in their restaurant down stairs. very nice affair and good food and excellent service.
The bedding on the beds were very worn with lumpy bumpy comforter. There was a band playing that you could hear on the 6th floor until 11:00 at night. The lobby was pretty and the location was great but do not let the best western and premier name full you. They do not live up to the best western credibility.
Very good hotel. Right in the center of town within walking distance of major downtown sites. Spacious room and very friendly staff. Breakfast is not included but prices are extremely reasonable. DJ in the bar during the evening.
The Rushmore hotel is very nice and it is in walking distance to many restaurants in Rapid City. It is in the heart of city. It was the perfect place to stay while we toured around South Dakota. The rooms are clean, comfortable, nice sized and modern.
For the second straight year we performed shows at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and for the second straight year we gave cast and crew the option to say safer from Covid by staying at The Rushmore Hotel. As a show that travels a lot we stay in a lot of hotels and never have I gotten more positive comments from the cast than the Rushmore Hotel. It is expensive during the Rally as everything in the area is but not unreasonably so and it is a very comfortable hotel with exceptional staff. They were happy to arrange airport pick-ups and drop-offs even for our cast and crew who had opted to stay right at the venue. It's about half an hour from Sturgis so I would recommend it for anyone who wants to check out the Rally and still sleep at night. Also walking distance to several great restaurants, shops and attractions. We would definitely stay again.
We stayed here 4 nights while touring the Black Hils and the Badlands. The hotel is very convenient to a nice selection of restaurants and breweries, all within walking distance. The one downside to their location is their propensity to railroad tracks - 2 of the 4 nights I stayed here, there seemed to be a particularly loud train about 2 in the morning. But otherwise it was a good stay. I was on the fence between 3 and 4 stars but the hotel went out of its way to ensure guests had plenty of places to park while a large concert was held a few blocks away - they kept an employee posted in the parking lot to keep out concert goers.
We stayed three nights in the Rushmore Hotel & Suites as part of our Trafalgar tour of National Parks in Wyoming and South Dakota. We had three breakfasts and the farewell dinner. Our room was on the 4th floor facing the parking lot and train railway. Disappointed that there was no refrigerator in the room. Breakfast spread was the basic egg, sausage, potatoes, oatmeal, sliced bread, yogurt and fresh apples and oranges. For the first two nights dinner, we had at Murphy's Pub and the steak restaurant located walking distance at the back and side of the hotel.
What a great hotel this is in the best central rapid city location with easy access to walking to restaurants and bars. So easy to head how the main road towards keystone too. Big hotel with ample parking and easy checkin with friendly and informative staff. Stayed on the 8th floor in a big, modern and quirky decor room which was very spacious and very clean. The beds were so comfortable. We are staying a very busy weekend due to a bike rally but the only thing I would say is the loudness of the music from the hotel bar till 2am. Fabulous hotel
This hotel was very easy to find and a convenient to all the sights around Rapid City. The walls were decorated with some interesting art work. We stayed two nights and it was nice to be able to walk to dinner.
Not as chic as the pics make it look but great location and muchhhh nicer than many gross motels near by. Clean beds but no frills. Halls seemed a little grimy and the rooms have weird exposed pipes that they couldn't renovate around. Low ceilings. Not gorgeous but It did the job. If you want a hotel it's here or the Alex Johnson. They are probably comparable.
I stayed her for business. This hotel is centrally located with a nice restaurant in the lobby for breakfast and a friendly staff. The rooms are eclectic and clean. I hope to return some day. You can easily walk to the Monument from here or to any of the sights in the city.
Our room was nothing like on the pictures from the hotel site...it was old and disgusting. The toilet was so dirty...never saw anything like that in my life. We were really exhausted after a long day of driving so we did not have the energy to go complain at the front desk where we know we would find that very unfriendly young girl who did the check in. And we paid around 500 $ for that !!!!! On the good side, the location is good . And the restaurant in the lobby is really good and has excellent service (front desk clerk should learn from them).
I was completely blown away by the niceness of this hotel.. I had no choice of staying here because we were on a bus trip and the company choose the hotel. I usually avoid Best Western Hotels because my experience with the chain has been they can be real dumps. This Best Western was more than I could have ask for. It was clean and the management seems to actually care what their guests thought about their stay. Our room was clean and neat and everything in it actually worked. I'd stay there again anytime.
Staying here pictures online are beautiful. But if you don't have to the money or don't want to spend a lot of money keep on walking. To stay here the only nice rooms are in suits. My husband and I were on our honeymoon and got in our room, and decided to leave. The beds were not all the way made, dirty used tissues beside the bed, front desk stated they don't do housekeeping everyday…just when you ask for it. Which is disgusting. We had coffee cups but no coffee maker in the room. Old used flat pillows.
My husband and I spent two nights at the Rushmore hotel prior to a cycling trip. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, The lobby inviting, our room was a decent size with plenty of space for two people to maneuver and the bed very comfortable. That said, the room definitely needs updating. There are plenty of outlets but no USB ports for charging. Well I'm sure the room was clean, because the furniture and carpet it's so faded it didn't feel as clean as it could. The bathroom was a basic single sink with Decent hot water in the shower. There's a free shuttle from the airport that you need to schedule in advance and a very accommodating driver who was able to drop us at our Cycling start location four blocks away upon check out. Breakfast was not included but was reasonably priced for a tourist location. Complementary morning coffee is available but not advertised. It is inside the entrance to the restaurant as opposed to in the lobby and we noticed many people asking about coffee we're going to the coffee shop a block away
Heart of downtown, right in center walking distance to restaurants, shops, presidents statues and all the fun, breakfast is buffet, great wifi. Rooms have shampoo, conditioner, soap, mini refrigerator etc. Great hotel to stay and explore the town.
This was the last overnight on our visit to Grand Teatons, Yellowstone, Rushmore, and this was the nicest of all. We had dinner here and the food was excellent. We also enjoyed nearbu July 4th fireworks from the parking lot.
I wanted to like this hotel more but there were some issues that I didn't care for. First let's start with the positives. This is a nice hotel with food options and a great location to downtown. Very walkable. The parking is also ample for a city hotel. On the flip side, there were some things that were disappointing. First off, the room we reserved showed a fridge in the room. When we called to confirm this, we were told that it wasn,t included but we could have one for $10 a day. Even economy hotels provide fridges these days. Also, this is a pet friendly hotel, which meant we listened to a barking dog the first two nights, Not to mention the train that goes by multiple times a night that will wake you up. So all in all, not bad, but next time I'm going somewhere else
Our group of 4 adults (55 - 69) had a very nice one night stay at The Rushmore Hotel while touring in the Badlands and Mount Rushmore area. The hotel has a good location, ample free parking, a lively bar, and the rooms were clean with a good bathroom.
We just arrived home from our 7 night stay at The Rushmore Hotel & Suites. Overall, our stay was nice. Staff is generally friendly at the hotel. Location is awesome to walk around the city & to travel to all the sites in South Dakota. Room was sufficient. We had 2 connecting rooms (#812 & 813) that were on the train side. Prior to arrival people complained of noise in the hotel & noise from the passing trains outside. We did not experience this because we kept the AC fan running continuously in both rooms. This was perfect white noise that allowed us to sleep through any noise in the hallway or from the passing trains. Our rooms also had refrigerators - which based on reviews some do not. Beds were decent but the pillows were awful! Might as well not even have a pillow to use. Overall, happy with our stay.
I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff was very friendly and check in was quick. The room was clean and the beds were comfy. The elevators were quick and never had to wait long for one. The hotel is located in a really neat area to walk arou d and check out the shops and resturants.
We enjoyed a good night's sleep. Nice small town feel and enjoyed the walk to see statues of Presidents on every street corner. Many nearby walkable eating spots. NO complimentary breakfast. Very close free parking. Ice machine needed to be replaced long ago.
Hotel right in center of Main Street close to restaurants and some shops. We were not happy with the hotel room. Looked like a 2 star motel room. Pipes showing on the ceiling, cracked ceiling, bathroom small, and ugly. Nothing in the room looked pleasant. Mattress however was comfortable. Pictures on the web site placed by hotel are much nicer than what we got. Staff however were very nice to assist us in getting connecting rooms and an extra mattress. Noise from outside is a problem, there are bars outside with loud street noise. We will not stay or recommend this hotel. This is a 2 star hotel not 3 stars.
This is a lovely hotel with uniquely decorated rooms and a nice lobby. We stayed here for one night after having a terrible 3 night experience at Alex Johnson and it was a much better hotel. THE BAD The women at the front desk when we checked ware condescending and seemed very put off that we were being picky about clean rooms after being in a very dirty hotel. We checked out a room before being willing to book and it was obvious the sheets hadn't been changed. The staff didn't seem surprised by this at all and didn't react at all. We ended up booking another hotel because of this for the remainder of our week, but that one was booked up for this one night, so we asked for another room to stay in for one night. We also knew from a friend staying there most of the week that the bar directly across the street is extremely loud wed-sat so we were not too keen to find that out either. THE GOOD very comfortable bed and cozy decor in the room. Incredible art work in the lobby worth seeing even if you're not staying here. Aside from the one room, everything seemed clean.
We found The Rushmore to be an outstanding hotel. The front desk clerk, Anrika, was especially helpful. We had problems with our reservation, totally unrelated to The Rushmore, and Anrika's superior, was beyond helpful. After a long day and great frustration with the company we made our reservation through, she was kind, gracious and helpful. The room was quiet, comfortable and nicely decorated, as was the entire hotel. We ate in the bar and enjoyed a delicious meal and great service. We will most definitely return.
The Presidential floor room decor is nice and location convenient. Furthermore, the breakfast was delicious. However, the mattress had support like an old 1970s waterbed. It felt worn and horrible and gave me back pain despite the fact that I very rarely experience any kind of back pain. Additionally, the toilet paper made from recycled paper felt like school notebook paper, thin and harsh. Simply buy quality mattresses and toilet paper and you will have a very nice hotel. The owner apparently has lost sight of the basic needs of a guest.
$361 for 2 nights. No towels in the room. No maid service at all. Broken lamps and lamp switches. Only one half roll of toilet paper. Only one glass/cup in the very small bathroom. Exposed sprinkler piping at the ceiling, ceiling itself obviously patched over many times, dirty bathroom tiles. Really dumb looking over sized pictures of buffalo taking up one entire wall. Extremely loud street noise. Teeny tiny parking lot. Woman at the desk when I checked out acted as though it was an imposition when I asked for a receipt. We were in Rapid City to see all the tourist sites, and only spent evenings in the room, otherwise I'd have complained a lot more than I did. All other motels around were booked anyway. We were trapped.
I love staying at the Rushmore Hotel in Rapid, on main street, you can walk to great restaurants and enjoy the beauty of our state! Traveling to other areas from this location is also convenient and it seems some awfully nice folks stay here on vacation !
It looked nicer on the pics, than in person. Needs some improvement by front area. It is located downtown, and maybe that is what makes it wanna be “fancy”? Don't know. But there is only once entrance and exit, the front doors don't slide open automatically and it should all be improved. I did like the room paintings of the different landmarks and attractions on the wall. I liked that visual, it was cool, and even helpful.
Great location in Rapid City! We were able to walk to restaurants, shopping and to all the presidents statues. The hotel looks older on the outside but they've done a great job updating the rooms. The three staff members at the front desk were extremely friendly!
This hotel exceeded our expectations. The lobby was tastefully decorated. The young man who checked us in offered to help us with the luggage, a nice gesture. The 9th floor room was spacious and very comfortable. The dining counter facing the window provided a nice view. The bar grub was excellent, definitely try the buffalo chicken wings!!
We were excited to stay at the Rushmore, based on other TA reviews we'd read. The room decor was very cool! Our bed was good - not the best we've slept on, but certainly not bad. Pillows could have been a bit more firm, though. Our only “complaint” would have been the a/c, but my husband just cracked the window to let (cool) fresh air in - so we weren't too bothered. The a/c itself seemed to work, but maybe the thermostat wasn't reading accurately, as it only kicked on a couple of times during our first night (and was needed more frequently). Super friendly staff and QUICK service! We requested extra hangers - on the 9th floor - and Robert had them up in just a couple of minutes' time!
I would give this place 5 stars if not for the crazy loud trains all night long. We were in the Presidential floor. The rooms are just like the pictures show and perfect for the area. The location was good for food and necessities.
We stayed here on our second visit to Rapid City and it was a great choice. This hotel is right down town so you are within walking distance of all the good bars and restaurants and you are in perfect driving distance to all the local sites. The hotel was in good shape and depending on the hotel room you stay in you have a refrigerator which is very nice to have. The in house bar and martini bar provide for endless entertainment throughout the evenings (we went to the 445 and it was such a great time)! Overall you should look at staying at this location because it was a blast to be right in the heart of the city.
I would recommend this hotel it is walking distance to many eateries and shopping, close to numerous attractions. The staff is very helpful and happy to serve. There are rooms that have a beautiful mountain view.
Rooms are large and comfortable. Staff is friendly. As many prior reviews have mentioned the map wallpaper is great. Street noise can be bad especially on the side facing the bars and restaurants. I imagine it would be worse during peak tourism/sturgis. So keep that in mind if you're a light sleeper.
We discovered a dirt sock from the previous guest in our room. I think that says enough about their cleanliness standards. When the issues was presented to the front desk, they made no offer to rectify the situation.
This hotel used to have a pool but no longer does which was very disappointing. Hotel doesn't offer a mini fridge or microwave in room. They don't even keep back-up ones for mother's trying to warm their breast milk. Paid way too much for the quality provided. Won't stay again
Stayed 2-nights 5/7 and 8, 2021. No complaints about hotel and WILL stay again. But the lounge on the main floor is ridiculous! 10P.M. both nights the dj or whatever had the music cranked up to about 8000 decibels and the door wide open to the lobby. Couldn't even sit with others in the lobby and talk without noise from bar interfering. It would be nice to have a QUIET lounge to have a cocktail with others and chat but such was not the case. Asked personnel in bar if they could close the door to the lobby and all I got was a "NO". I could care less if the bar has music cranked-up that loud but how about some courtesy to patrons OUTSIDE the bar.
This motel is well located for sightseeing, shopping and food/drink. The staff was excellent and the room was very clean. We wish the room would have had a refrigerator. We had a city view room and the noise from out side when the bars closed filtered into the room and hallway noise did also. It is an older hotel but well kept and comfortable.
Three nights in April. The hotel is dated, tired, and not very clean. The floor cover in the vestibule was dirty and covered with by pet hair. The carpet in the hallway looked as if hasn't been vacuumed for a while. Now my room. The plus was I had a corner room with windows facing west and south. That was a treat! But..... The carpet was very old and hasn't been vacuumed - saw pet hair, and tiny specks of materials all over the carpet. The sheets, blanket and the mattress cover had stains. The desk top had a glass top and there was dirt under the glass. The desk and the frig cabinet was put together by screws and painted with a yellowish brown sparkly paint. Ugly! The water pipes for the sprinkler system was exposed as if one is in the basement. The decor was ugly. Don't let the photos fool you. I relied Expedia the ratings from Expedia and Trip Advisor, and found it wasn't reliable. The location was very convenient. Restaurants are within walking distance. I do not recommend staying at this hotel.
Clean, quiet, comfortable and well priced. We stayed in an eco-room that featured fun graphics/murals on the walls and contemporary furnishings. The beds were super comfortable! We paid $100 for the night, which seemed very reasonable for the space and convenient location for a trip to Mt Rushmore the next morning. My only complaint is that the water in the shower turned cold when the sink was on, but once we figured out that we couldn't run both at once all was fine. I'd highly recommend a stay here if you are in the area.
Wow is all I can say. Very beautiful rooms with lovely artwork of the area. A giant map paint it on your wall. Very safe very quiet you cannot get into the elevator without a key card. You can get in but you won't go nowhere because without that Keith car elevator will not move. So beautiful and the beds are so soft I'm loving it and no this is not no McDonald's. Because McDonald's is not beautiful like this wow. The only complaint I have is they do not have no laundry facility on property. But what they do have is very friendly and nice staff and the rooms are awesome out of this world. I think my Boss Man will put me up in his room and I think the hotel establishment for allowing me to stay here this is once-in-a-lifetime experience
I have stayed at this hotel 3x on overnight trips to rapid city and it is by far my favorite. It is very updated, clean and modern and rates are always affordable. Easy, free parking with walking distance to downtown rapid for easy access. I highly recommend!
You will every single thing people scream outside. You will hear everything your neighbors are doing. They will cram you on the same floor, even in the off season, so you hear everyone on the floor all night. We could hear toilet flush and sneeze of the person next door. Our door doesn't seal shut -so much for COVID protections! The room was clean enough with many missed spots. Many rooms are industrial and showing their age. Old appliances and annoyingly set up bathrooms. The front desk staff were nice and there was good parking but staying here did not give us the peaceful rest we needed after driving several hours. I am disappointed with this hotel and will not be returning.
We checked in and found little had been done to adapt to the pandemic for guest safety. Luggage carts (do it yourself) not sanitized between uses. Room service food/drink brought by unmasked staff. Crowded unmasked patrons in hotel bar. Funky odd decor in guest room. Yikes.
I chose this hotel in Rapid City for its proximity to the downtown attractions. It was easy to get too, had plenty of parking, and a very comfortable room. Loved the artwork throughout. It looked as though it had been recently renovated.
We loved the hospitality and recommend booking directly with the hotel and not a secondary source. Our deal included a terrific room on the top (9th) floor. Breakfast included and everything we had was really good. Odd thing is the breakfast was included but the waiter gave us a bill each day. Put your name and room number on the tab, leave a tip (if warranted) and away you go. Our breakfast tab was usually about $20 so we would leave a $10 tip. Good deal!
We loved staying 7 days at this great hotel! Our room on the presidential floor was modern and fun. The large map painted on the wall was fun to look at to plan our activities! The Prive Bar and Enigma restaurant were both delicious. We will be back!
The staff at this hotel goes above the normal helpful. The food was delicious and drinks in the bar had the better scotch than you usually find. Several 18 yr olds. Perfect mini vacation. Oh you can walk to several upscale restaurants and other bars all within 2 blocks.
Originally when I planned my trip to SoDak, I do my research, and so should you. From the get, I was going back and forth between The Rushmore and the Alex Johnson Hotels. Save yourself a major headache and stay here!! Be sure to read ALL the reviews about the Alex Johnson! The Rushmore is in a good location, you can walk to everywhere in downtown, they have free parking, the staff were friendly and very helpful AND most importantly the rooms were CLEAN, and good sized and unlike the reviews about the Alex Johnson, the walls were NOT paper thin! We stayed 3 nights here and the only noise that kept me awake was the unrelenting sound of my friend snoring!!! Badlands National Park is about 1 hour East and Mt. Rushmore is about 30 minutes South and Crazy Horse just 15 minutes further SW than Rushmore. I have ) bad things to say about this place, and trust me I am pretty picky!
Our first stay in Rapid City, this is THE place to stay, imo. Location couldn't have been better, within walking distance of the entire downtown, which is a terrific downtown, btw. Lots of restaurants and watering holes, the architecture is classic Western, the establishments are very up-to-date. The hotel supposedly had a very good restaurant, though we did not try it. Free parking, very clean and modern, I don't think there's a better place to stay in Rapid City proper.
What an unexpected surprise at how nice this hotel is and what a great location. Rooms are modern and clean. Felt very safe here and enjoyed our stay. Restaurants and bars all within walking distance.
Part two, from our cross-country trek West, the Rushmore was decided from a list of options, which included the Cambria, Tru, and the Hampton Inn. We picked the Rushmore for its location downtown (easy access/drive to Mt. Rushmore and the West-ward drive southwest). We thought the other options northeast of the city. had nice pools / waterslides, but didn't fit into our drive itineary (plus we didn't want Olive Garden or Red Lobster). Our first impression was this is a very nice business hotel with artistic features. In our trip (in total), the Rushmore had the most artisitically-muraled rooms. The internet was decent, but did the trick for the kiddos. But the one thing I wished this hotel could be better were family friendliness. There's no pool or sitting areas on the main floor, instead a large lounge/bar/restaurant area with celebrity photos. Additionally, the staff didn't really wear their masks 'all-the-time' as other places. I noticed only when customers were around (and inside) did the receptionists keep their masks on. I would recommend this hotel for business and friends staying overnight. If business, the Alex Johnson Hotel is a comparable option as it has the only Starbucks on-site. But the free parking at the Rushmore can't be beat for its location. From rating perspective, for business/friends, I would give 4-stars, but for families, 3-stars. Tip: Go to Murphy's Pub or Firehouse Brewing Company for drinks. Asian food options are good off East Blvd (7-10 mins drive east of Downtown).
Nothing special about front desk check-in or check-out. Trying to make an older hotel modern. Sliding 'Barn door' over the bathroom. No fan in bathroom. Small rooms for the price. Noisy - motorcycles until 1am, Train whistles starting at 4:45AM. Be prepared to pay for breakfast.
The hotel and staff at the Rushmore are fantastic. Highly recommend. Very centrally located in downtown Rapid City. Very quick drives to nearby monuments and historic towns. We would definitely stay here again.
This is probably one of my favorite hotels I've stayed in. Great location, dog friendly, nice bar, delicious restaurant, friendly staff and very clean. The wall murals in the room of Mount Rushmore and map of the area on the other side were awesome. If we ever go back to South Dakota would definitely stay here again.
Very clean hotel with amenities you would not expect to find in South Dakota. Great place to relax after visiting the numerous attractions in the area. Mt. Rushmore is just a short ride through some beautiful country. The restaurant has excellent food and service is fantastic. Highly recommend you stay here if your within 100 miles of Rapid City.
The staff at this hotel is great and it's in a great location, but it's very obviously old and a lousy attempt at updating the rooms has basically failed. Not to mention, the place is filthy and in a state of disrepair. The sidewalk at the front of the hotel is covered in stains and old chewing gum, is coated with dirt and needs to be swept. The glass entrance doors to the hotel are dirty and need to be cleaned (this is hotel cleanliness 101), the floor inside the doors has a piece missing and could be hazardous. I will say that the staff was basically friendly and accommodating upon our arrival, but that's pretty much where the "pros" of this place come to an end. Upon entering the elevator, the floor is very obviously dirty with spilled liquids and needs to be swept. There are fingerprint smudges all over the walls and doors and although I can't see them, I'm assuming the elevator buttons are covered fingerprints and everyone's leftover dirt as well. There are signs inside the elevator indicating that there will be no "stay over" housekeeping service and if you want your room to be cleaned and/or require clean towels, you have to request them - due to COVID 19. After noticing full trash cans everywhere and repeatedly seeing the same bag of trash and dirty wine glasses outside one of the rooms on our floor for several days in a row (i.e., no one is doing any housekeeping/cleaning of common areas) along with all the other generally dirty areas, I think I'm more likely to get COVID 19 in this place. I'm on an extended trip through several states and this is the first hotel I've encountered that has elected to discontinue housekeeping service (and apparently all cleaning in general).
City Center location hotel. They have friendly and helpful staff. The room we stayed in was a 2 double beds guest room, it was clean and comfortable. Normally the city center hotel charges a high rate for parking, but parking is free while you stay in this hotel. I'd come back next time.
Very nice hotel in a great location. Restaurants all around within short walking distance. Went for the bike rally and had a great stay. Thank you for the hospitality and the grand bike tour of the hills! Hotel has a good bar and live music. Very accommodating for all of the riders as well as those of us who wisely trailored their bikes.
Excellent location, and they provide shuttle from and to the airport. Staff made sure to help me with all my needs and to explain all attractions and good restaurants around town. Good breakfast, clean rooms, beautiful decor. I'd come back anytime.
We needed a hotel close to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Monument and chose his one (mainly because it's part of the BW group). The hotel is really neat with all its decorations and even the room had some neat stuff. There was a tripod lamp which closely resembled our equipment tripod. The bed slept good. They have a lounge but we didn't use it and you can get breakfast at the restaurant, if you choose. Be prepared, the parking lot is huge and since we got there kind of late, we had to park on the far end of the parking lot.
We stayed at The Rushmore for 3 nights while doing a family vacation in the area. Hotel was clean and we had no issues. Chris, the maintenance guy, was changing our bathroom light bulb on arrival. He went above and beyond helping us. Our room keys weren't working, annoying after literally just checking in. He immediately took them downstairs for us to fix. He was also kind enough to quickly bring the mini fridge to our room. Pro- Chris was great! He was the only staff we really had interaction with. Hotel was clean and great location. Rooms were quiet, we only heard train others mentioned twice the entire time. Con-Hotel doesn't have complimentary breakfast, no pool and you have to request mini fridge for a small fee. Parking is limited and only one elevator.
Check in went very well, polite and attentive staff. The lobby area was very nice. Once you step off the elevator things go south very fast. Dirty hallway, dingy carpet. Walking into the room was a bit of a shock, exposed sprinkler pipes, dingy carpet, tiny bathroom, the ceiling was patched up concrete, the mattress had well over 200,000 miles on it. Calling it uncomfortable would be an understatement. Someone spilled something in the elevator and the floors were sticky with foot prints for days before anyone cleaned it up. I booked a premium room and what i got was equivalent of a cheap roadside motel
This hotel and service were as expected for a higher end hotel. Every area was very nice and clean except the parking lot. If you come in later in the day, like after dinner, expect to not get a spot close to the door. We stayed in the Rushmore room and we were very happy with it. Pretty cool! The one disappointment was that there is no pool or hot tub.
This hotel is in a convenient location - close to restaurants, shops and the square downtown. If you are a light sleeper, this is not the place for you. It is very noisy, the hotel is not quiet by any means. You can hear toilets flushing all night, there's a train track behind the hotel that runs all night and there are two popular bars just down the street which creates a lot of car/motorcycle and party noise well into the night. The views up high are nice, but the noise is definitely an issue. The room had a musty smell about it and the shower had terrible pressure (have to run around to get wet).. issues not worth reporting but disappointing.
Walking distance to The Berlin Wall and a lot of the downtown presidents. Glad we stayed here. Coffee was good. Didn't eat at the restaurant. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend the Berlin Wall and a walk downtown. This was a great stop on the way to Keystone.
Hotel was excellent. The only issue was the live music from across the street on some of our nights here. Great downtown location, close to restaurants and center plaza. Staff was very attentive. Would definitely stay again, maybe request a room on other side of building.
We made a last minute reservation due to RV broke down. We couldn't get Lyft to accept the ride from the repair shop. The hotel sent a shuttle to get us, had our paperwork ready when we arrived, worked with us to extend checkout due to our uncertainty with the RV rental company, and took us back to the repair shop when we needed. They made our bad experience with the RV company bearable. The location of the hotel is great with many restaurants in walking distance. Highly recommend the hotel!
The location is great, centrally Located for all the beautiful sites to see: Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, The Badlands, The Black Hills, Devil's Tower, Custer State Park, etc. It's easy walking distance to lots of restaurants and the unique statues on all the street corners. The rooms are very clean; however, We visited during COVID so there was no room service, you had to request what you needed at the front desk and they'd bring it to you ( coffee packets, glasses, towels, soap, etc.). I was okay with that but wasn't told that upon check-in so the first day we were there, coming home late in the afternoon, I was not impressed that our room hadn't been cleaned yet. I understand the policy but should have been advised of it upon check in. It's not a quiet hotel, although remodeled, it's really noisy. You can hear whatever is going on in the hall from simple conversations, doors opening and closing, everything. I had ear plugs with me which helped me sleep, even through the loud band that was playing somewhere on Friday night (I think up the street somewhere) my husband said it finally quit sometime past midnight. It doesn't have a pool so for kids who have been in a car and/or hiking all day, there's no pool for them to play in when they get back to the hotel. Having said all that, I'd stay there again, the staff is very friendly and the rooms are very clean, the beds are comfortable and we loved the map on the wall. We visited every site but the Corn Palace (I think that's what it was called). South Dakota is beautiful and a great place to relax and see Another part of our beautiful country.
I really like how they updated this hotel, what a difference modern decor makes. It was nice and comfortable and clean. The only thing that I didn't like was that they were not requiring the guests to wear masks in the hotel. The employees were were masks. I stayed in a room on the 4th floor and I could hear the noise from a nearby bar so it is not very well sound insulated.
Booked for 2 nights in late October 2019. First time staying at this particular place. It was dark and snowy upon arrival, check in went well, went for a few drinks in restaurant, although I can't recall the name, (was in hotel) received great service. Went next day to explore many attractions in Black Hills area, was educational and very beautiful as far as scenery. Returned to have a great meal for supper, and back to really decorative room with wall map showcasing area. Comfy beds, clean washroom. Had delicious breakfast with many options. Could have easily stayed a few more days, but will return based upon this great impression.
This hotel was great. The rooms were clean and the staff were super friendly. The location was great as well. The restaurant was also nice. We didn't have any problem with noisy neighbors which was nice since we have a 4 yr old. There was also a neat street band called High Rise that our son play the drums for one song. Completely made his night.
Okay, so we could not stay cooped up any longer, South Dakota is open and it was worth the trip. We stayed at the Rushmore Hotel and Suites in downtown Rapid City. We arrived around 12 noon, we checked in, the young lady that checked us in stated they had a room available for us even though check-in was at three. She was polite, and efficient checking us in quickly. The lobby area was clean with seating and a bar and a couple of restaurants. There was seating outside as well and free self-outdoor parking adjacent to the hotel. The rooms however really need to be updated, both the sleeping area and bathroom. They are clean however so know complaint as far as that was concerned. Not a deal breaker, but they need to update....The location was great, all within walking distance of good bars and restaurants. We walked to dinner each night and also to the bar for drinks which was across the street. We also were able to do some shopping and never had to use the car to do any of these.
The hotel is located within walking distance to restaurants and bars, in the heart of downtown. It's also close (walking distance) to Art Alley and all of the presidential statues. Parking is free, the staff was friendly, and they all wore masks. Most of the guests did not. The rooms were big and the bed comfortable, but the pillows were pretty flat. The room decor was fun! I would recommend and would stay here again.
Mr. Merali, owner of this hotel, was a lovely and kind man to speak with. He was attentive to our Harley travel needs and treated us and all his guests with great care. When traveling across several states on a motorcycle, knowing that our comfort was important to Mr. Merali and his hotel team made us feel welcome. The hotel was a very clean and newly renovated space with eco-friendly and recycled products. We can't wait to go back to visit someday!
The Rushmore Hotel was very nice. The beds were comfortable and the room was spacious. The best thing was that you did not hear people stomping around in the room above you or the elevator door opening and closing. The a/c unit was a little noisy but we still slept well. It is in a great downtown location that has been renovated with shops and restaurants within walking distance. We liked that Sturgis and Mount Rushmore were about equal distance from Rapid City so we could visit both without a long drive. We plan on returning next summer and bringing the family.
The rooms were spacious, clean and appealing. The view was fantastic. The hotel was close to the historical attractions in the area. It was easy to locate off of the freeway. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They answered all of our questions about the area. They were efficient in checking us in and out. The room was very quiet.
Staying at the Rushmore Hotel was an unexpected pleasure. They are remodeling and doing a very good job of keeping out of the way of guests. The common area patio was very pleasant and relaxing. The rooms are very spacious and the bed was to die for. I want that mattress in my house, The entire Hotel was spotless. I was super impressed.
I'm a little surprised by so many positive reviews. Our stay has been very disappointing. The building feels very old with a cheap remodel. I felt the same about the rooms. I was put in a corner room with the most odd blinds that didn't keep the sun out. I'm actually writing this at 5am from my room and it's bright as day. I can hear every car, truck and motorcycle driving by. For some odd reason every time the air kicks on it sounds like it's raining in the room. I would not recommend
Great stay for a night before getting over to Mt.Rushmore and doing some hiking in the Black Hills. The hotel seems to have recently just gone through a renovation - decor around the hotel and in the rooms were updated - the only thing we did not like is the dry wall on the ceiling did not look complete, throwing off the "newness" feeling of the room. Besides that the room was clean, and bed was comfortable, there was no mini-fridge. There are a lot of dining and bar options within walking distance of the hotel. Location is perfect to get to Mt. Rushmore.
This hotel is nice and clean. They have a restaurant and bar on location. The staff is friendly and location is good. No mini fridge or microwave so bring a cooler. Beds are comfortable and hotel looks updated. Not to far from keystone and Mt. Rushmore.
Location great, grounds clean, room was very clean and attractive . Most of all the staff and family running the hotel is outstanding. My boyfriend and I stopped here for a visit to the Badlands, ended up having car problems and had to extend our stay (extremely happy we did). Tom is a great employee! He even recommended a shop to fix our car and gave us a ride back for pick up. We will definitely return and book again.
Great stay, loved the vibe. Hotel was clean, front desk staff were helpful & kind. Close proximity to many attractions. Will be staying here again in the future. Didn't have a chance to try the food, but will next time.
The Hotel staff was friendly, courteous, respectful and helpful. The Bartenders Jen and Hanna were phenomenal when we went to the activities being held in the Hotel Bar. Overall Hotel staff was great and I will be returning for future visits.
Nice stay. Pros: comfortable and spacious rooms, friendly staff, convenient location. Cons: no full length mirror (may seem silly but I was here for a week long business trip and it is frustrating to not have a full length mirror when wanting to dress professionally and one day I had no room service (which is not a big deal other than I did not get my coffee supplies refreshed). A special shoutout to Will, the shuttle driver who twice provided excellent customer service.
Very clean and comfortable, staff was helpful, front desk gave us information on places to see and excellent places to eat and enjoy a drink. We went with a group and rooms were together. Nice weather to sit outside and enjoy the view.
The hotel was clean, staff was friendly and the shuttle services for the stock show were far beyond our expectations. We will be staying here every year for the Stockshow and we are looking forward to it!!
Clean and spacious room with comfortable bed. Small but functional bathroom with a good shower. Short walk to centre of town and shops. This building has about 6 floors and has 2 lifts. Only one was working on the two nights we stayed there and this led to long waits at busy times. Would stay again.
We stayed one night for a company Christmas party, that was also hosted by the hotel. The food was delicious, the wait staff at the party were very professional and courteous. The room we stayed in had an amazing view of downtown Rapid City. The room was also uniquely designed and extremely spacious it wasn't your cookie cutter hotel room. This is not the first time I've stayed at this hotel and it won't be the last!
We stayed here when we were on our bus trip.It was an ok hotel. The breakfast in the morning was ok.It had the usual eggs ,cereal, biscuts and gravy, etc The hotel is a little older. It was clean and the staff were very friendly.
We needed a close hotel to the civic arena for Beerfest and the Rushmore was perfect in every way! We stayed with 3 other couples and had a free shuttle to and from the arena. Then we were within walking distance of downtown for supper.
Friendly staff, clean hotel and fun room decor. The location is downtown and walking distance to all the restaurants, shops, bakery and coffee shops. Only down side is the noise from outside. one side of the hotel has the train tracks, which get used every day, so train whistles at 3am are not ideal. On the other side of the hotel is the main street with pubs and on the weekends plenty of folks making loud noise while pub hopping. Doesn't help there is an bar in the hotel with sidewalk seating making for a fun social time but not if you want to get to sleep.
I stayed here at the end of October and really enjoyed my visit. I was able to use the hotel airport shuttle service which was really handy. I booked last minute when I landed in Rapid City and the hotel were able to accommodate me with an unscheduled airport pick up which I really appreciated. The driver was friendly and gave lots of local tips which was great. The room was clean and modern. I feel like it might have been recently renovated. WiFi signal was excellent and free. I had dinner in the restaurant on one evening. Although the restaurant was quiet the service and food were great so I'd recommend. The hotel is really close to the central area of Rapid City so I walked everywhere. The staff were all warm and welcoming.
We were in Rapid City for 6 nights & had a suit. It was very comfortable for our stay. After a busy day sightseeing, it was enjoyable to come back to. Many restaurants and shops nearby. Friendly staff. We would highly recommend this hotel .
Arrived on bus tour. The hotel is downtown within easy walking distance even in snowy/icy conditions. There are bikes available through the hotel but I do not know the details. The rooms are nice and clean but lack a microwave and refrigerator. The window coverings on our second floor room were unusual in that they allowed you to look out with the coverings closed. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was good with a good selection of foods. We had a pleasant stay and would recommend this hotel to friends.
This place is a gem. From the rooms, to the restaurants, to the great customer service. It is affordable, clean, and extremely well run. I highly recommend it and look forward to my next stay with them.
Group manager went above and beyond for passenger by arranging her staff to bring medicine to groups ‘ next location after leaving it in a drawer at The Rushmore!!! By the time the passenger reached the next nights hotel it was past business hours at their home. The medicine was necessary within 4-6 hours because of the nature of the illness it was for. So she had 2 staff members jump in their vehicle to bring it and hand deliver the medicine!!!! The guests were beyond relieved as their 9 day trip was just beginning! Thank you Rushmore staff for saving the day and the trip!!! Awesome people!!!
My wife and I enjoyed the stay at the hotel. The suite was extremely roomy and was kept. The hotel was nice because it was centrally located in downtown Rapid City. There are nice restaurants located near the hotel.
Srayed here for 2 nights for my Caravan Tour and also 3 nights pre tour that I had booked to go to the Badlands and Deadwood. The hotel is centrally located downtown and you can pretty much walk to most of the restaurants and shops in downtown Rapid CIty. Had a nice big room with 2 beds, looked like it had recently been refurbished. Breakfast buffet is very good though depending on when you go down it can be crowded if it is near a tour group departure time. 2 negatives. The whole 5 days I was there only 1 elevator was working. A major hassle in the morning when the tour groups are leaving. I didn't really mind walking down 5 flights of stairs but I don't really want to walk up that many. The back of the hotel also faces the train tracks and when a train goes thru you can really hear it. One of the days I was there it seemed like 3-4 trains went thru between 9:30 and 11:00
We stayed her for 2 night as the start of a 9 day tour with Globus vacation. Great town with cute restaurant and perfect for walking. Hotel is perfectly located right in the part of the walking downtown area. We ate at Murphy's one night and the FireHouse Brewery the other. I travel with medical equipment and the Rushmore Hotel graciously accepted a pre trip delivery to their hotel and it was waiting for me when I arrived! The only megative was that one elevator was not working, held up routine trT
We stayed two nights at The Rushmore as our base for a guided bus tour. Based on the parking lot it is a popular for the tour companies since there were buses from several different companies. However, even with the tour people there the hotel didn't seem overly crowded with the possible exception of breakfast.....more on that later. He hotel is very nicely situated in town. It was a short walk to restaurants, and a beautiful park just behind the hotel. Take some time to walk the town and see all of the statues of the Presidents. The hotel itself is obviously an older property, but is nicely decorated and VERY clean. Beds were comfortable and we really appreciated the room darkening blinds in our room. While we didn't have a lot of interaction with the staff, they were always very pleasant and helpful. The breakfast buffet was very good with a good variety of hot and cold items. As mentioned earlier, the restaurant got a bit crowded with all of the tour companies, but in our case they had set aside a nearby room for our group, so after we got our food it was just a few steps to a private dining room. This helped relieve the crowds for other guests....well thought out. Overall, we would definitely stay here again.
Good: comfortable room with great bed. Lots of counter space. Restaurant/bar had great food and drink selection. Bad: only 1 elevator working. Very irresponsible for 9 floors. No coffee in lobby early morning before restaurant opened even though night staff assured it would be ready at 5am. Desk clerk at 530am said he couldn't lift the coffee maker.
We stayed here for the last night of a week-long vacation to Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore. The rooms were very nice - spacious, contemporary and comfortable. The shampoo and soap dispensers were empty which was a bit surprising. There was only one elevator working for a 9 story hotel which made for long delays. We were told the elevator has been out of service for 6 weeks, which is inexcusable. The staff blamed it on the elevator repair company, but coming from NYC where elevators break all the time and are fixed within hours or a couple of days at most, I found this to be pretty feeble. We also had a fire alarm go off at night and many guests walked down 7-9 flights of stairs to find no hotel staff in the lobby to explain what was going on. Our tour guide told us it was a false alarm (Saving is a 9 flight walk), but the hotel staff took entirely too long to let the guests know anything. We also heard that keys were deactivated so one guest walked down 7 flights, then up 7 flights to discover that his key wasn't working. I had the breakfast buffet. Strongly recommend that you skip the buffet and order off the menu. My wife ordered off the menu and her meal was much better than mine. Her home fries were much better than the potatoes on the buffet. The eggs in the buffet were over cooked and dry.
Part of a group set up by a tour company. Only warned about elevator situation just before arrival. Has had a major impact on the enjoyment of the stay. Very, very frustrating. One of two elevators down, Walking 5 flights no fun. Waited 10 minutes to finally get enough room to get up to my room. Would not stay again till elevator fixed.
I expected a much nicer hotel. One of the two elevators was not working. The place was old and dirty. The carpet in the room needed to replaced and the window shades had long past their lifetime. The shower lacked water pressure and hard to get clean, the water temperature kept changing and hard to control. Just a AAA 1 start hotel.
We stayed here 2 nights as part of an organized tour. There was only 1 elevator working and this was commandeered by staff for moving luggage in the mornings as there were several tour parties staying at the hotel. Based on a review I read from 1 week earlier the elevator had been out of order for some time and there was no sign of anyone trying to repair it. Breakfast in the restaurant was mediocre and crowded due the tour parties. The hotel is located near a junction of the railroad and a major road. As a consequence when trains approach the crossing there is a lot of noise from horns and wagons both day and night. There was no greeting or acknowledgement on departure from the reception staff.
Rooms are large and comfortable. Bathrooms are large and have a wide counter. A desk and chair, lots of plug ins for your phone and IPad. A comfortable chair and two places for suitcases make it easy for travelers. There could be more mirrors and the faucet in the sink is awkward but works. The elevator is out so huge crowds trying to use one elevator for 9 floors is difficult. They are waiting for a part since July. On Tuesday night and at 2:30 a.m. a train came through blowing its whistle on and off for quite a while. It woke everyone up. Don't know if this is a regular run but It was a shock.
We were there as part of a tour group and were very impressed with this hotel. The rooms were well appointed and very comfortable. We were right in the heart of Rapid city with restaurants and scenery all around us. A really nice place to stay.
We stayed on 6th floor. Most of the comments in other reviews were accurate. One elevator still not working, but we had no problem with the stairs the one time we used them (our whole bus was going up at the same time). Checkin was very smooth, towels seemed new and nice, hotel is within walking distance of restaurants. Breakfast buffet was good—eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon, fruit, muffins, pastries, juice, hash brown potatoes, yogurt, oatmeal.
The Rushmore is in a great location in the middle of the older part of town where there are lots of shops and restaurants and bars. We were late arriving so we ate in the hotel restaurant which turned out to be a good choice - service and food were very good. If we get back to this area we would definitely stay at this hotel again.
The best thing this hotel has going for it is its location. It is right in the middle of town, very close to place to eat. There was a map of South Dakota on the wall - the entire wall - which turned out to be very interesting over the 4 days we were there. It is a bit worn, but nice enough. Nice wheelie chair at the desk.
One elevator was broken, and the other took forever. It was not very big, and was extremely slow. The water pressure is poor and you will feel it if someone uses the sink or toilet while you're showering. There was food on the floor of our room when we arrived, and it was still there when we left after a 2 day stay???
Stayed here as part of Trafalgar Western Frontiers Tour. Lobby beautiful with a paper machete work of art on wall, tile mural on floor & behind reception desk. Room on 6th floor unique, “funky” lights/lamps kept the room dull (so not enough light at night) & “unique” window treatments did not keep out early morning sun. Bathroom small, pipes visible under sink which should be hidden, towels easily fall off towel pegs & into trash can spot; design would be better with vanity across entire wall. A choice accommodation for many tour companies, but we had up to 5 motor coach groups present when we visited with only 1 of 2 elevators working (1 out of service for a few weeks & elevator capacity is 9 people). Stairs available, however, the narrow width of each step was concerning. My foot is an average size & I had to place my foot on each step a bit sideways so not to catch my heel. The part that makes this a scene right out of “My Cousin Vinny” was the air lines flying overhead at night & the incredibly long freight train (we could see the tracks from our window) that blew its shrill whistle forever. If I owned this hotel, I would be concerned about my financial future!
3.5–Leaves much to be desired. Got “Standard room” with 2 queen beds and “city view.” But I discovered it doesn't come with a fridge, and they charge to provide one. At time of booking, they offered two similar-sounding rooms for the same rate—both “standard,” with 2 queen beds, but one was billed at having “city view” while the other said “refrigerator.” ( In hindsight, this description was significant. But at the time, it seemed like stating an obvious, taken-for-granted amenity.) In this day and age, is a fridge really optional? And is a city view and a fridge interchangeable in terms of value? The thermostat isn't intuitive (no idea what the difference between “set” and “save” is and no instructions). They charge for water despite advertising “free water”. But the beds were firm and comfortable.
....so we were here a couple of nights as part of a group. First the room was very nice, 9th floor, clean, contemporary, quiet. The breakfast/food in the dining room was very good too, as was dinner in Enigma (which was excellent). The big problem was that 1 of the 2 elevators has been inoperative for 4-5 days, awaiting parts via FedEx, they say. So a 9 floor hotel catering to groups is dependent on 1 elevator. Also the mag room keys rarely worked and we had to get replacement keys at least once a day. Other than that....
The hotel was nice but there was no safe in the room. Also, the water in the bathroom was just lukewarm. The beddings were ok and room was clean. If not for the tour, I would love to sleep some more. It's a short walk to few good restaurants at main street. The breakfast from our tour was ok.
I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The reception area was really nice and the lobby had a large paper statue depicting natives chasing buffalo of a cliff. The room was nice and clean and the location was great for exploring downtown. Breakfast was great at the hotel restaurant the next day. I had heuvos rancheros and they were delicious.
My sister and I were vacationing with our 92 year old Mother. Had a WONDERFUL experience at The Rushmore Hotel. The staff were friendly and did a TERRIFIC job accommodating us for our Mother's handicap needs. We enjoyed our breakfast experience each morning...no plastic and paper products! White linen and upscale...VERY NICE! Our Maitre D was so attentive and had a smile ready for us each morning at breakfast. Sandy, at the front desk went out of her way to make sure that EVERYTHING was taken care of throughout our stay...Thank you Sandy! Altogether, just a great experience!
We called at 8pm from down the street looking for a room after a day in the Badlands. Outstanding service, great price, and clean and well decorated room. Really enjoyed this stay. If we're back that way, wouldn't hesitate to stay again.
Stayed 2 nights. Room was clean and comfortable. Very modern and the decor was very interesting and unique. Breakast buffet was average with usual standard foods. As we were with a tour group our interaction with hotel staff was limited.
We booked this room, as non-bikers, in the middle of the Sturgis rally, because we forgot it was happening then. Oops! But no problem. The staff was very organized in terms of partitioning off a big area for bike parking but also allowing others room to park. They seem to have things down to a science in terms of organization around the rally. We were worried because one of our dogs HATES motorcycles! :-0 Well, I think he's cured! Lol The room was cute and modern, with all the usual amenities and plenty of towels. The room was surprisingly quiet too. We heard nothing of the train going by as others complained of, and we didn't really hear the bikes from there too much either. It's in a great spot, within walking distance to all the great spots downtown, which is always a plus for us. We prefer to not have to get in and out of the car once we get to a place, so that was nice. My husband wasn't crazy about the fitness center and said it was sorely lacking in the basics you'd expect, and it was small. But everything else was just lovely! The only other negative was the high price we paid for a BW, but now knowing it was in the middle of the Sturgis rally, I guess that's the reason.
Let me start by saying that if I was just going to review the hotel alone I would give it a 4 star rating. But unfortunately the staffs rude and hateful demeanor over shadowed the hotel. I was greeted by a young blonde girl with glasses at check in, she did not smile or even look at me while I was checking in. After we checked in we decided to head down stairs to have a drink, we had driven from Oklahoma and were ready to relax. As we are looking at the menu board outside of the martini bar area I noticed the bartender (a girl in her mid 20s with long blond hair) staring at my family and making remarks,as well as faces. We were the only people there so it was VERY obvious her and the male bar manager was talking about us. The bar manager took our orders and when someone in my party asked for a frozen drink, he smirked, laughed and said "we" do not have a blender. He walked away and as I looked up the female bartender and another women that worked there was staring at our table again making it very obvious they were talking about us. I had to walk up to the bar to get a drink and she told me I would have to wait for the waiter that she did not serve tables. I walked straight to the front desk and spoke to the female hotel manager on duty, she was very nice and came to the bar and spoke to the female bartender. The male bar manager, which was the same man who was smirking at us earlier, came to the table and apologized but by this time the day and the stay was ruined. He said he would comp our drinks, but I did not care about the drinks, it was the shotty service I wanted changed so I gave him the 50.00 bill for the tip since we were not charged for the drinks. The next day after sight seeing we were exhausted and went to the other bar in the hotel, in order to avoid the last issues we had. This female bartender was nice and courteous, she had short blond hair, but the crazy bartender from the lounge saw us and made a point to come over several times and fumble with glasses and limes while staring me down. IT WAS VERY BAZAAR. Even my companion noticed. I have stayed in hundreds if not thousands and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had, and to top it off I paid almost 1000.00 to be treated this way.
Location is great and walking distance to everything in downtown. The rooms are very nice size for an old building. The hotel is nice and clean with a great staff. The only complaint I have is the breakfast buffet. It needs a lot of help. I stayed two days and the only thing I could eat the second day was a muffin and coffee. The prepared food is quite subpar. The rest of the place was great. Making improvements to the buffet would change the grade to excellent.
Okay so first thing the elevator was broken and we had to take the stairs up which are hidden in the back of the hotel. Next there is no room safe. Then the decor. The bath is in red white and blue. Then I looked up at the light fixture in the hall and it was full and I mean FULL of dead bugs.
You can't help but judge the book by the cover. The interior design makes no sense and the "craftmanship" of recent updates is shotty. SO many different materials - cheap materials. I told my husband we won't be staying in this hotel again, not because of the lack of cohesiveness and quality, but because we didn't sleep well. The bed and bedding weren't comfortable and the AC is either off or freezing. The window wouldn't open. Side note: we stayed on the 9th floor, supposedly the nicest floor. We found the room to be clean and the hotel staff were great. Location might be the number one thing the hotel has going for it.
We were SO EXCITED TO stay here! Room was $200 for the night. We were so disappointed. Thermostat was broken and stayed at 74/73 degrees. Mixed with the very warm, heated floor the (?) Room was way too warm...The floor was so warm our cloths in our luggage were warm as if they had just been taken out of the dryer! Shower water would vasilat from very hot to very cold. Room was VERY dark and lacked lighting. We had to ask for another lamp. Worst part was the cigarette smoke drifting in our room all night long..It truly was miserable. We were so excited to stay here for our anniversary stop on a long road trip but we were so disappointed. The 2 great things? The front desk ladies were so sweet and the room was very clean.
We were there three days and the hallway on our floor was not vacuumed once. Itwas disgusting. Room was contemporary but average. The description said we'd get free bottled water...not true. Breakfast buffet was very good. Location was great.
Kudos to the staff at the Rushmore Hotel. My luggage was delayed upon my arrival In Rapid City. The airline counter told me that they would forward my bag when it arrived. I tracked my bag using the airline's tracking system. It arrived about an hour and a half after I did. But the airline staff never bothered to send the bag to the hotel. Calling the airport was useless - no one answered. Stacie Hull, The Rushmore's general manager, said that this often happens. By 10:00 PM, when the bag had still not arrived, she arranged for Jeff, the hotel's van driver, to drive me to the airport (30 minutes away) and I was able to retrieve my bag. She saved the day, as I was due to leave the following day on a 10-day bus trip, and I really needed my luggage. Thank you, Rushmore Hotel.
It is HARD to find a nice hotel in this area. This particular hotel has gone through *many* ownership/management changes. In its current condition, the rooms have received some slight cosmetic design changes, but it is still an old hotel, that has old bathrooms, hallways, ceilings, and smells. The location is ideal - you can walk throughout downtown rapid city, seeing the presidential statues, finding restaurants (we strongly recommend Harriet & Oak for, well, anything and everything that they serve!). There is free self park adjacent to the hotel. For guests who prefer luxury and/or modern accommodations, there aren't many options in this area, which is a disappointment due to the proximity to the Badlands, Mt, Rushmore, the Black Hills, and a stopping point while heading west to Jackson Hole. The visual updates to the hotel rooms are nice, but once you're inside, it still feels like you are in a rather old hotel that hasn't had upkeep with renovations that consistent management and ownership would have prioritized. The staff was very friendly. Nice sitting area outside of the hotel. From deep sleep in your hotel bed, you can hear noisy guests as they make their way down the hall in the middle of the night (walls are thin).
Situated in the middle of downtown Rapid City, the Rushmore Hotel provides convenient access to restaurants and shops. Be sure to check out the statues of the presidents on street corners throughout downtown. The hotel is clean and quiet and has a nice bar and restaurant. They offer a very good breakfast buffet.
Room was clean and had really cool decor, staff was very friendly and helpful, and the decor in the lobby was stunning! Bed was comfy and hotel was in a good location to get back on the highway in the morning. No complaints!
My wife & I enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The room was updated with a western theme in a modern funky way. The room was ample, clean and comfortable. You can get a good night's sleep here. The staff was professional and attentive. The breakfast buffet was limited, for example, the cut fruit was canned, not fresh; so we opted for the A La Carte Menu. Overall, a very nice stay.
Spent a couple nights here and found it a comfortable, standard experience. Appreciated the shuttle service from the airport -- in unexpected May snow!! Breakfast buffet was convenient. Bit of a snaffu with getting towels replaced but have to say the staff was at our door in a jiffy. Good location - walking distance to some good eateries.
Modern-Urbanist style rooms. Sleek, hip, clean and comfortable. Shuttle service to airport. Restaurant serves quality food and is staffed by an attentive crew. Rooms are of a good size. Bathroom follows Modern-Urbanist styling. Lobby is more traditional.
I just wrapped up a two day stay here with the Caravan tour company and can't say I'm happy for it. As others have stated the location is wonderful. It's right in downtown with many options in easy walking distance - they have a very cool Thursday street festival and many interesting shops. The hotel is another matter. I'll start with the airport shuttle - was 30 minutes after promised pickup time. Check in was good - if anything the front desk may be over staffed for the volume coming in but it was quick and easy. Room was functional. Decor is a strange ecliptic blend. They didn't stock enough towels (2 sets for 3 guests and repeated on day 2) and the towels had holes. Elevators are slow. The stairs are outright scary. The workout room had one precor and 3 knock off machines - one of which had a broken safety clip. Water cooler in the workout room was empty but someone fixed the ac while I was in there. Breakfast was above average. Overall I'd say this property has potential but needs work. The staff seem to be trying but don't have enough to work with. I found out this used to be a Radisson - a troubled brand that is probably following the path that IHG went though with a lot of shape up or ship outs. This one may have been a “ship out” with an owner not willing to make the investment needed.
I stayed here for a 2 night stay while visiting the Black Hills.... The Front Desk Staff is Awesome, above & beyond would be an understatement! I had a couple of issues including lost luggage from the Airlines and they took initiative in getting my luggage from the Rapid City Regional Airport. My room was clean, modern, and nicely furnished. I ate dinner in the Hotel Restaurant: Enigma, Excellent meal with a good value for money! The manager Stacie was very accommodating, she and her crew went way out of their way to make my stay a Great One! I will seriously consider this Hotel as my choice for my next stay in the future...
Best thing about this hotel is the staff. They go out of their way to make sure you are happy. They are friendly, responsive and approachable. I was concerned our room might be noisy and the manager took the time to let me check out other rooms and then he moved us. He was willing to leave his office and take me to a couple different floors. Shout out to the night front desk man - lovely and helpful, thank you! The coffee in the morning in the lobby is nice but huge tour crowds grab it and I sometimes had trouble getting a cup. The decor is unique and perfect for a SD vacationer. The clean, comfortable rooms are very dark and could use overhead or more lighting. The fan does run loud but it's white noise and has an ON setting so it doesn't go on and off and wake you up. The breakfast isn't free and didn't look great so we went to some of the amazing eateries nearby instead. The hostess there was very friendly and let me check it out. Overall a nice stay!!!
Start our western tour in Rapid City. The Rushmore Hotel was the choice and a nice one it was. Check in was smooth and easy. We toured most of the day so we didn't get a chance to use all the facilities. It is located in within walking distance to a number of restaurants and bars. The room had a modern decor and was comfortable. The first night we ate on premise. We were able to to get a light dinner. Which was just what we needed. Would gladly stay here again.
The hotel was just fine location wise as it was downtown in easy distance of all the shops/restaurants/bars downtown. The bathroom did not have grab bars on the tub for getting in and out as well as the toilet is set low compared to the average. For seniors, these are downsides. The staff was attentive to our needs and quick to respond when the heating did not work and got it fixed right away.
This hotel was an oasis on a recent trip through South Dakota. The rooms are very cool and comfortable! Great location too with many dining options downtown. Bike rentals are available which I thought is a great amenity! We enjoyed the live music in the bar as well. The staff was courteous and I have been recommending the Rushmore to my friends and colleagues. I look forward to my next visit!
Perfectly comfortable stay. Extremely cordial and helpful front desk staff, especially Heaven. The low price of amenities was appreciated. Clean rooms, quiet enough. The usual Holiday Inn breakfast, but OK nonetheless.
We gave it a 4 star to be fair since the location was perfect and within walking distance to downtown, restaurants and shops! The breakfast buffet was very good! Our only gripe was that when we went to bed after 10 pm, the sheets obviously had not been changed and were soiled. The front desk were very understanding and immediately sent up fresh linens. We left the dirty sheets in the floor but next morning when maid made up the bed and cleaned the room, she never bothered to take away the dirty sheets. We had a lovely corner room that was modern and nicely appointed but housekeeping needs improvement!
We stayed at the Rushmore Hotel & Suites on 5/7/19. Loved the accomodations! The rooms were a combination of European minimalist and western decor. I know that sounds odd but it works. Everything was clean, staff was helpful, on-site breakfast was good. This hotel is within 2 blocks of downtown so very convenient place to stay and enjoy the great offerings of downtown Rapid City.
Beds are super comfortable. Upgraded complimentary from a double bed room to a queen room. Love the murals in the room as well! Free breakfast and free parking! Probably the best value hotel in downtown Rapid City!
We were impressed by the location of this hotel. It was close by everything, we were able to take day trips to Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Sturgis, Deadwood, Custer State Park & only 20 minutes to airport.
Stayed there when traveling through the Black Hills. Great hotel for the price. Had a good complimentary breakfast in the morning. Great location for access to all the attractions. Rooms were clean and spacious with nice storage.
This hotel was a great value for the price. Easy walking distance to several local downtown shopping and eating establishments. Rooms were clean and staff was friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay here again.
My husband and I traveled to Rapid City for a medical appt. We were thrilled to receive a discount on our room because of this. Let me start off by saying this hotel is in the older secretion of Rapid city. There are none of the fancy, name brand restaurants nearby, but there are all types of little fun bistros nearby, plus the hotel itself has wonderful food. When you first see the hotel you can tell that it is older. But that only makes it more appealing. When you first walk into the lobby, the mosaic of Mt. Rushmore is unbelievable. Made from stone from around the world, The craftsmanship is breathtaking. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner Karim and the GM Stacy. You couldn't ask for more helpful, warm hearted people. The rest of the lobby is warm and homey. The staff at the front desk were also very friendly and inviting. The beds were great. I have a difficult time finding a comfortable bed, but was extremely pleased with the bed and coverings. Our bathroom was really cool with a blue glass barn door. Fun!! The room and the entire hotel were clean and I am very picky about that. More Doctors appointments are scheduled for Rapid City and we have found our home away from home and won't even consider the chain hotels that border the outskirts of Rapid. Thank you Karim, Stacy and the staff! See you soon!!
The Rushmore Hotel and Suites was tops on all dimensions: hospitality, cleanliness, food, transportation, quietness, etc. My every request was responded to with good cheer and efficiency. Among the many lodging options in Rapid City, this is my 'go to' by far; they offer outstanding value.
Awesome hotel, seemed to be recently renovated. Room was amazing, the staff was amazing! Great location and Mt Rushmore is about 20 minutes away. There's also plenty of shopping within walking distance. Parking is also free, which is a plus. Overall, this was an awesome stay and we look forward to seeing you all again on our next visit to the Black Hills!
Back out West again, kicking off in Rapid City, this time with our daughter and partner so just repeated Trip No.1 First 3 nights at the Rushmore Hotel again, this is the best place to stay in Rapid City, close to downtown, like literally a minutes walk and you're at a good bar or restaurant, a bit further and downtown shopping is all around. My favourite shop being Prarie Edge, fabulous place with great items to buy, really descent quality too, and lovely staff. Back to the hotel, I love it here, the rooms are perfect, clean, modern and the staff are something else!!! Special shout out for Mandy Benson the Sales Manager, what a thoroughly lovely young woman. I booked this times stay directly through Mandy as we had a hard job getting in as it was so busy!!! But she came good in the end. We stayed another 2 nights on the end of our trip, which is where we take the car back to the airport, have the hotels mini bus pick us up and just enjoy and reflect on our latest adventure. If visiting Mount Rushmore, you are best placed as it's just a short drive from The Rushmore, or the tour bus from Fort Hays will come and pick you up. Now that trip I can certainly recommend, done it twice. You are also good for the rest of the Blackhills, Deadwood is brilliant and well worth a visit. And just an hour or so's drive from The Badlands. The i90 interstate to the north of town will take you just about anywhere you want to go in South Dakota, Wyoming & Montana. This is a great hotel, nice accommodation, great team of staff and perfect location. What more could you possibly want???
Stayed here one night for business. There was a continuous dripping noise coming from the ceiling but I didn't see water so I just ignored it (earplugs helped). Overall it was fine. For the price you can't really ask for anything special. Had I paid $200+ / night, I would've definitely complained. For the value, it's as expected.
