We couldn't fault the hotel, clean tidy, free parking, friendly and helpful staff. Room 122 was great would be no problems for a disabled point of view. Pleasant sleep, sorry if we had anybody above or aside due to snoring issues, wife says. 10/10 for a best western, breakfast was ample, and happy to visit again
Location of the hotel is perfect. On arrival the staff - Rory and Edina - were so welcoming, acknowledged us with smiles and eye contact. The staff also continued to be pleasant and polite with every interaction. We had a few moments of unforeseen occurrences (left things at home) which the hotel staff went above and beyond to help sort for us. The room was very clean, bathroom was a good size and spotless. Shower was powerful and hot. Beds were super comfy and the room was warm. Good sized tv with plenty of channels. Coffee/tea facilities were full with plenty of options. Even when we got home, and realised we had left behind a vital thing. Rory didn't hesitate when I phoned to go and check the room and then lost property to find our item and organise it back to us. Parking is available right outside the hotel, and the services adjacent to the hotel door has ample food options. Less than 20 steps away. Can not fault this hotel and staff
Great value hotel with free parking. Everything you need for a stay is there. It is ideal to access all the local towns. The room is ideal with tea, coffee etc large lcd tv. to watch your favourite program. Bathroom had a great shows with plenty of hot water. Staff were attentive at all times. Breakfast, self service , was at great times with plenty of choice.
This hotel wasn't what I was hoping for, but might be good for others. It isn't IN town - it is in a pullout with a gas station and KFC. The plusses: It is easy to get to and has plenty of parking. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. The disappointments: The rooms are very small, so I ended up with my suitcase on the floor. The breakfast wasn't included and wasn't very tasty, especially for the price. There is no lift for 2nd floor rooms. The location is isolated except for the gas station, KFC and I believe there are a couple of other places. I wish I had studied the websites more before I booked, because I was hoping for a place from which I could walk around town and visit the local pub. However, those who want a quick in-and-out location will find this hotel suits.
Great value for money motorway hotel! Rooms were spacious and clean with plenty of in-room amenities. Quick check in with option or online check-in. Fast food outlets walking distance. We had breakfast included and there was plenty of choice of full English and cereals, fruit, pastries etc. overall this hotel exceeded our expectations for a motorway hotel.
Excellent service, clean modern rooms, lovely breakfast with lots of choice very pleasant staff, highly recommend, ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Team is always helpful and professional. I go once a month. They always go above and beyond to support customers. On arrival they check you in and give the code for parking barrier, I have had additional requests more than once such as Iron and Ironing board they always provided to me with a smile. Nothing is ever too much for them in hotel. Great team
Clean hotel, water for bath was very dirty may have not been run in a while. Came clean after running for a while. Breakfast was poor, always waiting on food to come out as it is cooked in very small quantities. If booking a Breakfast I'd go elsewhere
Best stay in a small hotel in a long time. The addition of a breakfast in the stunning moderate price was a real bonus. It even included veggie options. It beat all its rivals out of sight. Very impressed with our room and also the front desk was manned at all times. Really helpful staff too
Can't find fault with this hotel, lovely staff, excellent breakfast AND there's a bar for a reeling rest in the evenings
My brother booked this hotel as part of a trip to Cardiff to meet family and see Paul Heaton at Cardiff Castle. Sadly on the date we chose the Foo Fighters were on at the stadium so central Cardiff hotels were not available. But the city was easily accessible from this hotel. I find myself writing a mixed review based on the experiences of guests in our two rooms. I found my room to be comfortable and have everything that I needed, however my brother and sister in law felt differently having had to ask for a fan to replace the noisy one in their room and on day two having no toilet roll or coffee and milk after asking to have their room cleaned. I experienced a little inconvenience with breakfast as I asked for vegetarian sausages and after waiting ten minutes was told the oven was still heating up, then after waiting again I was told there were none, meaning my brother and sister in law had finished their breakfast and I held everyone up. Credit to the lady in charge who came over and apologised as well as informing me I would not be charged for my breakfast. The next morning we walked to MacDonalds for breakfast which was a little tedious as there is no pavement. Only one star lost as I was generally happy and I had a good nights sleep.
Breakfast adequate. Great location and close to local amenities. Lovely walks from the hotel and up to the canal. Rooms were very clean and set out well
Staff friendly and helpful. Great Welsh hospitality. Fantastic range of breakfast food - both continental and cooked. Scrambled eggs were fantastic! Quiet despite being on a main road and near fast food eateries. Bed was very comfortable.
The breakfast was very disappointing, scramble eggs looked made yesterday no beans until I asked for them the bacon hardly had any bacon lots of fat, the coffee was Luke warm. I asked the manger for hot coffee and he said breakfast was finished at 9 30 even though I came in at 920 and refused to warm the machine up. I'm glad it was free.
great place to stay , good breakfast, brilliant staff, close to cwmbran town for shopping and a few fast food restaurants next door, with larger restaurant near by
Reasonably priced hotel for overnight onward journey. Good sized room and bed. Clean and modern with bonus of breakfast on us.
Very nice hotel!! Good location and the staff were very helpful and polite. We enjoyed our stay and I highly recommended for a short break to this part of Wales. You have all the amenities near you and places to go to have something to eat. The bedrooms are clean and tidy, only missing a little fridge for keep your drink cold but this is a minor problem if you only go for a short break.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Hotel spotless and very comfortable. Good beds and bedding, slept really well. Breakfast very good for a small restaurant area they were Highly organised. You can easily walk to the canal which goes on for miles. Highly recommend.
Very friendly welcome. Rooms ok. The hotel is situated on a small retail type park next to a service station, KFC and Mcdonalds (note the KFC has to be the worst one I have ever visited!). Breakfast was a shambles with all sorts of items and crockery running put and not being replaced until you could find a member of staff to help. However we did pay very little so we were satisfied overall
The rooms are very comfy, maybe a tad on the cosy side if staying for more than a couple of nights but they have everything you need, beds very comfy too. Breakfast buffet was basic but mostly eadible, choice was a little limited at times though. However...... we were booked on a pre paid dinner bed and breakfast deal via a booking agent, the hotel were " trialing hot food for evening service" THEY FAILED miserably, to the point we contacted our agent and had them cancel our food allowance, they have no chef, the staff appear to have had little or no training in food prep or service and with just one member of staff available for everything from checking in, food service and bar service. the kitchen looked to be little more than a cupboard with just a microwave, a costa style sandwich oven and very little else, my advice to the hotel...... don't serve evening food until the staffing issue is resolved, my advice to guests...... use one of the many local outlets instead, kfc, mcdonalds, gregs, subway and harvester all within a short walking distance. All this having been said i cannot fault the service recieved from the staff that were available, in particular Ben, he really was a star from start to finish, that guy deserves a medal, he really went above and beyond, not just for us but for everyone who came through the door. My star rating is purely for the room and for Ben, cannot praise him highly enough
This was an excellent stay. Just what we needed after a super long day. Mikela was extremely helpful and went above and beyond to provide us with a positive experience would 100% stay here again. Super easy to find but wouldn't reccomend the KFC across the road.
I booked this as I wanted to be close to the Beacons and for our bikes to be safe. I liked the look of the carpark and I wasn't wrong. The carpark is flood lit all night. And the blinds are blackout so you don't need to worry about that. It is next to a cheap fuel station, a KFC and a McDonalds. And only a minute from aldi and a pub restaurant. They do breakfast but we didn't have it, it did look nice. The bar drinks were reasonable price. When we checked in Mikaela checked us in and was very helpful, she was the only receptionist to acknowledge us. The morning lady on the 31st didn't even look up at us. (the cleaners were all chatty) The room was very clean and tidy, a fan to use which is always welcome. A large tv with lots of channels. We couldn't cast our tablet to the tv even though it was a feature as the internet kept dropping off. The only real issue. We will stay here again for sure.
Lovely hotel, easy to find even in the dark. easy check in we had a room overlooking car park, very quiet. morning lady at breakfast was super nice and helpful plenty of choice for breakfast hot and cold food. rooms not big but very clean we picked this hotel because of the price would definitely stay again
I've stayed in many times now , it's always cheap but that's never always an indication of quality expectancy . Yes there is no dinner BUT there is a great harvester across the road a KFC and McDonald's next door if you don't mind that for a night and here's the best bit. The rooms are so clean and the beds are so comfortable that even some best westerns charging £50 more fail to meet the standards set by this one . Quick mention to the staff , I'm not sure if it's a welsh thing but they have always been very friendly and helpful too. If you're looking to stay in this area I can highly recommend you stay here
We came to Pontypool to watch our granddaughter perform in a show so we didn't need anything apart from a bed to sleep in. The room was spotless and the beds comfy. The room didn't take long to warm up once we had turned the radiator on. The price was reasonable and we got a discount by joining the rewards scheme.
Usually pick the nearby Premier Inn but thought to give this hotel a try following the discovery of an astronomical price over the road for the night I needed. Whilst the Premier is better overall, this hotel was good for the price. Room comfortable, warm and clean, noise from the nearby dual carriageway generally not that bad and I slept perfectly well. The bar is quite pricey and not a lot of food options so decided to eat at one of the nearby fast food outlets instead. The 1p deposit for the room upfront to cover potential damages made me chuckle but the overall stay was pleasant and, with Premier Inn prices still massively high, this is a very good alternative and I'll stay again.
The price was the first attraction but having stayed I was very impressed. The staff were all quietly efficient and friendly. Parking was easy not always the case in many city hotels for instance. The room although not huge was adequate, clean, bright, but more importantly, comfortable.
The room is clean although smaller than its leading competitor, similar comfy bed though. Easy parking and close to a Harvester a short walk away. The negatives are that it is a hotel of two sides, one side is very noisy at night as it backs onto a busy duel carriageway, the other side is quieter and faces a car park. I have learnt to ask for the car park side in future. Breakfast is average with some cooked items missing, the remainder was cool, the scrambled eggs had a strange grey tinged colour! I would visit again and would request a room on the quiet side, also I would pass on the breakfast, there are a couple of lovely places nearby. The standard of our room was good value for money but unfortunately very noisy through the night. No noise from other guests just that awful road.
Not sure who was to blame tripadvisor, travel up or best western bit when i turned up at the hotel, Travelup had not paid the hotel the money i had already paid for the booking so i had to pay best western again for the room. Then both companies refused to refund me. So i paid twice for the same room. When i re-checked Travel up was the only option on Tripadvisor. The best western manager informed me that he had never heard of Travel Up and that they only except pre-paid room via booking.com and expedia!!
This is a very nice comfortable hotel we were a little concerned about the proximity of the road but did not hear a thing. Breakfast though extra was very good. Check out was very simple and fast the outside was clear of litter even though there are two fast food outlets
The staff in this hotel were absolutely phenomenal, particularly Dean who could not do enough for me. The outstanding customer service I received was an incredible display of brand standards and dedication to guest satisfaction for this company. My room was perfectly clean and the pizza they offered was beautiful. I cannot recommend staying here enough
The first time I have used Best Western but it won't be the last, very reasonable prices for a very reasonable room, spotlessly clean with very friendly staff, especially Michaela, the reseptionist who advised us where to eat ( and where not to) in the area, very helpful and such a lovely person. One very slight "niggle" our room was on the motorway side so we could not open the window during the night for some fresh air but this was not a huge problem All in all a very reasonable 2 nights stay perfect for our requirements, we will be back!
Spotlessly clean as always. Warm welcome from staff. Appreciate the biscuits on the hospitality tray and good to have glasses instead of plastic cups in the bathroom. Hairdryer provided in the room. Pillows and bed very comfy. Easy to control heating and shower easy to operate. A very pleasant and relaxing stay, excellent value for money.
Booked this Best Western Hotel in Pontypool as it was central to what I needed this past weekend. I booked online and got a decent rate. Quiet clean accommodations with convenient restaurants within walking distance. Rooms are not huge by any means but good enough for a good nights sleep. Breakfast was fair to good, it was nice they had a bit of a bar service at the front desk.
Plenty of hot water, fluffy towels, nice reception area but would you like to sleep on badly stained mattress topper & stained chair. After being told the hotel does not have extra bedding, thankfully staff appeared with a replacement telling me I was lucky an extra one had arrived today…..it had obviously been taken off another sofa bed (which I was grateful for) Quite put off after this!
We were unlucky with our room allocation, just inside the main door to the rooms. The door was banging shut until the early hours as guests arrived back. The result was a very disturbed night sleep. Breakfast area was too small so you may have to do a bit of planning to ensure a seat. Great value, not quite as nice as a Premier Inn. No Aircon. Clean room and bathroom, the shower over the bath is very narrow so expect the curtain to keep sticking on you, very annoying. I would not return unless it's possible to ensure a room away from the reception area doors, I suggest you do too. Shame as I had a very long drive to get there and the same long drive home in the morning after a very poor night sleep.
A recent 3 night stay at this hotel exceeded our expectations. The staff were friendly, informative, hardworking and happy. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Although we did not have breakfast at the hotel for an extra cost a full cooked breakfast was available and had lots of choices. The room, the public areas and outside seating area were spotlessly clean,.The hotel is located within a service area, which we found confusing at first but for some could be ideal as it was among a KFC, Esso garage, McDonalds, Outlet shop etc. and across the road from a Harvester Restaurant. Its location to Pontypool, Cardiff etc.and the surrounding South wales resorts and landmarks is ideal and well signposted on the main roads accessing the hotel. In summary cannot praise this hotel enough for its location, above standard cleanliness and value for money, thank you
Stayed for a couple of nights at this hotel and was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were spacious and clean with all the necessary facilities. Bathroom again was clean with a powerful shower. Breakfast provided a variety of cold options, cerals, yoghurts with some fruit. Hot options included, sausages, beans, bacon which were all tasty and unlimited supply of juices. There was a small bar on reception which you sit down and enjoy a drink or outside. In terms of food in the evening there is KFC, McDonalds, Greggs a very short distance away and a 5 minute walk is Harvester. Food is good and staff very friendly but may need to book if eating at peak times. I will stay at the hotel again in the future.
On arrival Staff where very helpful checking in was simple snd easy free parking, Ben on reception was wonderful nothing was too much trouble, comfy room comfy bed all you need really, breakfast was OK would return
The hotel is good value for money. It is nicely positioned for visiting South Wales and the surrounding areas. The hotel is basic, clean, free parking and a good breakfast. We have stayed at this hotel a number of times over the last few years.
It is nice and remote for quiet nights sleep with easy access to cardiff in a car/taxi. Stagf are friendly, everything was in working order. Stayed here for a 2nd time as I trusted it was reliable and enjoyable from the 1st visit
Very good Hotel staff excellent breakfast was way above expectations will definitely stay again we had a family meeting and wanted somewhere local could not have chosen a better place to stay. The staff were helpful and professional
Wish the double beds were bigger but overall this no-frills hotel is good value for the price. It's in a handy location in Wales. Coolest rooms in summer are on the ground floor. Fans are provided as well as tea and coffee making facilities,
A short stay but the hotel was very nice and a good value for money. Rooms were nice and comfortable and the bar is open all night. Breakfast was good value and buffet style suited me well. Internet was very quick and could do work on the desk in room.
I have previously stayed in this hotel on many occasions and it's been fantastic These days you just get fined for parking in their advertised as free parking site Staff never told me of any changes Yet I get a £100 fine come through the door why would anyone want to stay in a hotel that fines you for parking in their advertised as free parking hotel Phoned them up (best western) and they say it's not their responsibility as they no longer own the land
Excellent service at this hotel staff always very helpful and willing to help. Good value for money. I have been staying at this hotel for good few years its like a home away from home , staff are very helpful and always willing to help.Breakfast is superb , good value for money.
Happy with customer complaints team but extremely disappointed in my stay and resolution to the issues. After all the problems iv had solely caused by the pontypool staff not ones have they accepted responsibility and apologised for how iv been treated. The comment from them on the email I received is that they have refunded my money as a gesture of good will. I find this comment very inappropriate seeing as there is no gesture of good will involved, you simply returned the money you wrongly took from me in the first place and have the cheek to make out like your doing me the favour. I will be leaving as meany poor reviews as I can. Not that it will make any difference as the pontypool team clearly doesn't care about the service they provide to there customers.
My partner and I had to make a short notice trip to Wales following a family death. Best Western had an available room at a reasonable price. We had a twin room which had adaptations for disabled customers, not that either if us are but that did not concern us. The staff were friendly and the room was clean. The wet room / bathroom did have some rust streaks on the tiles from some if the disabled fittings but it was not terrible. My only concern was having to enter my car registration number into a parking eye touchscreen at reception, it was slightly ambiguous and I could not see a space bar to separate the reg number. I had to enter the car registration number on a booking in form at reception also so wondered why there was a need to use the parking eye terminal as well? Overall a descent stay
excellent hotel good value for money , can't fault this hotel been using it for a good couple of years no reason to complain at all.the breakfast is good and staff arae very friendly and alwasys willing to help you.
Hotel was ideal. Stayed for 2 nights while visiting Cardiff to see WWE with our 12 year old son. 30 minute train to Cardiff Central. Easy check in/out. Rooms clean. Everything I needed. All staff amazing. I would highly recommend.
Booked in 30th Aug - 2 Sept 22. (Room 226) On arrival was met by young man who was brilliant, explained everything and had a good laugh. The rest of the staff were of the same ilk, friendly and very helpful. Went into the room and first impressions were ok. The bed is a standard double. not good when you have a bed hogging wife. The sheets were clean and fresh and although small the bed was comfortable. They could do with putting plug sockets on both sides of the bed. Its a small bed so wouldn't need too much cabling. The bath is ok if you are a size 0, however, any larger, forget it. I couldn't get my lardy arse into it. But on the plus side, it was clean and tidy. Issues with the bathroom, Went I went for a tinkle in the middle of the night, I burnt my retinas out because the lights are super bright, not what you need at 0200hrs. maybe a night light or mirror light could be installed. A little more attention to the carpets would have been nice, found some shirt buttons that had been missed (previous occupant must have got lucky) because they were in different areas of the room. Breakfast, We went twice, first day at 0900hrs, it was ok, little on the cold side, went again on last day at 0800hrs and it was perfect. Tasty and hot. My biggest issue is the heat. the room was a sauna, I must have lost at least a stone. the fan given in the room is as much use as a chocolate fire guard. I hardly slept the three nights we were there as it was way too hot. even, the wife (who practically sits on a radiator) struggled. Wasn't the best hotel I've stayed in, but certainly not the worst . Over all 7.5/10
No air con, wouldn't be so bad if the fan provided wasn't full of dirt! Dirty mirror opposite bathroom. Useless shower due to perhaps the worst water pressure possible. Will not be returning here ever again.
I stayed at this hotel as I was completing my training for the Welsh ambulance service. The hotel was only a 10 minute drive to my location, lots of choice of food&drinks around the hotel and good service.
On 11th August I drove with my husband from Poole, to arrive at about 5pm. After confirming my reservation, a man at reception started talking quickly so that I could not take in some info. Therefore when went into room 214, my husband couldn't find the wi-fi password. He then needed to call the man at reception, who told me the password was on the back of the piece of paper with the number to get out of the carpark. I had packed a cool box, so on the 12th I needed the ice packs to be kept frozen, and also my asthma inhaler and antifungal medication kept in a fridge. I spoke to a lovely lady (originally from Toronto) who said that I needed to talk to the man from the previous evening. Because he was busy at reception, she eventually asked for my room number, wrote it on paper and took my items away. This evening, I asked a young woman on reception for the ice packs, and for a fan that worked properly, because it was hotter and the fan in the room would not work properly. She asked me to wait, because she was rather busy with other customers. When she came back, she could not find anything relating to room 214 in the freezer, so told me that she needed to phone somebody, My husband and I went up to the room and, after a while, the young woman knocked on our door with the found ice packs. We then stayed downstairs as long as we could and my husband took the fully-working fan back to our room. At about 10:30pm., we were both getting very tired and needed to go to bed. After packing away items in order to leave on 13th, I realised that I had not collected my refrigerated medication. My husband kindly went back down to reception and asked the young receptionist for them. She could not find anything twice, and my husband told me that another woman and a man, who were also at reception were not helping at all. My husband told the receptionist that the lost medication could be life threatening and returned to our room. Yet again the young receptionist knocked on our room door, I answered the door and there was my green carrier bag that had been found. I took it and told her that I could've died without my asthma inhaler!
Stayed for one night overnight. It wasn't anything out of the ordinary but the rooms were freshly decorated. Well presented showerhead adequate shampoo and body wash. We were on the ground floor room was a little small but adequate. It was reading Nice decor adequate towels etc. The only two little points would be I wish the TV was a larger size on the wall. For a walk down to TV needs to be bigger so that you can be comfortable for the bed, and they were only two teabags in the room which means like us we had an evening cup of tea but there was nothing there for the morning when we woke up. Not big points but just something with mentioning.
My regular place to stay when visiting vamily in the area. Beds are comfortable; en-suite shower/washroom good; breakfast usually excellent. Bottle bar serves a good selection of beers and lagers, also wines and spitits. Staff are always helpful and accommodating, doing their best to meet any reasonable demand requested by a guest. May not quite be the Ritz or the Savoy, but it's rather better value-for-money than either of those. As to other customers complaining about the location: You have Google Earth, sat nav or even Ordnance Survey maps - use it!
£180.00 for a room only, in what I can only describe as a two star hotel, next to a petrol station! No proper bar or restaurant, had to eat in the reception area. No air con, small double bed with tired looking linen.
No Air con, Staff could not be bothered to try and assist with the heat issue, asked for a bucket of ice and got two glasses of water. The food was just as bad, They only do Chicago frozen pizza due to "Covid" £1.00 at Iceland but they charged £9.99 for it. This hotel has to be the worst one I have ever stayed in, from uncaring staff to uncared for room, please avoid at all costs, why Best Western has giving it their seal of approval is beyond me
No air conditioning, (too hot to sleep on a 23 degree day) noisy, shower leaked, staff weren't helpful. I would spend the extra and use the premier inn across the road. The area wasn't great either, lots of rubbish around, no atmosphere in the bar/reception area, completely empty on a Saturday evening despite the hotel being full. There didn't seem to be anywhere within walking distance either.
Really comfortable, great staff, clean rooms. Good location, asked for extra bedding and got it. Blackout blinds work well so can get a good nights sleep and rooms are quiet. Free parking which is handy.
Breakfast was not value for money would rather have gone to Harvester across road for breakfast. Room was ok no air conditioning and noisy if you left window open. Good job it was just a stop over for one night
booked this as it was cheaper than the Premier Inn. Although the breakfast didn't have as many cooked items it was absolutely fine and cheaper. You could also get a drink from the bottle bar in reception if you wanted one.
We chose this hotel because of the reviews. It was our grandsons first hotel stay and he loved it. Very clean. Staff were friendly and very nice. Especially the guy on the desk at our arrival. Sorry did not get his name. Breakfast was good.. I would recommend this hotel. Thanks
As a seasoned traveller and on this occasion, travelling alone on business, I prefer to book my accommodation direct via their website (easy.) Great location with easy access to Pontypŵl (Pontypool), Cwmbran and Y Fenni (Abergavenny). Upon arrival I was met by the smell of percolating coffee coming from the Starbucks café in the light filled lobby. The scenery was surprisingly beautiful and it was lovely to be welcomed into such a quiet and peaceful environment after experiencing the loud and busy surrounds. Registration was straightforward and I was provided with a much-appreciated upgrade and the pleasant front desk staff allowed me to check in early. A big “Thank you” to all the professional staff who were efficient and pleasant. Staff took my bag and showed me to my clean and quiet room. The Internet strength was excellent. The room price reasonable and I would stay here again as it exceeded all my expectations.
Stayed here on Saturday for a date night, with my partner. First thing I noticed was how clean everywhere is. Pleasant staff, Lovely welcoming reception/ restaurant area, quick check in and our room, although on the smallish side, was spotlessly clean and modern. Tea coffee and biscuits provided in room and toiletries in bathroom, plus a fab shower with some gorgeous fluffy towels. Breakfast in the morning was hot and plentiful with a nice choice. The car park was big and secure, and I would have no hesitation in staying again Thanks Best Western you've got a gem here
Wifi didn't work. I advised the receptionist(s) on a number of occasions. They both had a ‘couldn't care less' attitude. I won't be staying again. If you want a business hotel, go elsewhere. I wish I had.
Lovely place and boys at front was very kind and helpful. I paid £278 to stay for 4 nights but I only stayed for 2 nights despite that I never asked for refund when I left the place.but only yesterday when I was checking my bank account the hotel withdrawn £150 from my bank account. When I rang them up and asked why I got charged for the amount of money they accused me of smoking in the room when I never.I smoked outside with the rest of the people and it's a few times I was out there smoking when one of the employee's was outside having cigarette break as well. I like to no why didn't they get in contact with me seems they had my phone number and email address to inform me what I've been accessed of and instead of withdrawing £150 from my bank account to me that's theft for poor accuse to take someone's money. Even though I stayed there for 2 nights instead of 4 nights I left the room all clean and tidy. I'm not happy with this at all it's shocking and I will be refunded my £150 as well I want let this lie. How many other people they done this to just taking money from their accounts
We spent 2 nights here while visiting my partners daughter nearby we can really recommend Best Western metro Pontypool we couldn't fault it comfortable well equipped room and staff were very helpful, self serve breakfast bar was very good and continually replenished. We would definitely stay here again in future. Colin & Tina
Stayed for two nights to visit the area. The hotel is ideally situated to access all main routes. The secure car park has plenty of spaces. The welcome on arrival was very warm and friendly. Everything was explained very clearly. The room was compact but had everything you could need and was very clean and well maintained. Toiletries and tea and coffee were provided. Would be happy to stay here again.
The room here had everything we needed and some nice little touches like a laundry bag. It was very clean and quiet- barely heard other guests. Incredibly comfortable bed and ability to control temperature of the room with the heater. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.
Fine room, clean etc. How is the bar closed on a Saturday night?! Abrupt service when asked if they could serve. If you are staying somewhere, should allow residents to drink alcohol bought from the bar. Baffled.
Hotel is in a brilliant location. Staff brilliant and very friendly. Check in was easy. Our room was on the second floor and faced car park so nice and quiet. Bedroom very clean and tidy however bathroom was a bit dirty. It smelled of drains so we kept the door shut to stop room smelling - we stayed one night so not a big deal. Bed comfy and loved the duvet! We would stay here again :)
Staff were not helpful. Were sick and coughing and did not wear masks, despite posting signs saying masks were mandatory. Made excuses when we complained that the room had not been cleaned in 6 days (of our nine day stay); did not enforce mask wearing of guests, were not friendly (with the exception of one staff who also ran the Starbucks counter). We were disappointed in the quality of the room, the bathroom was a disabled room and the bars and things were rusted. We had to ask for clean towels and toilet paper and for our garbage to be emptied and even at that we were given grief by the staff. I would never stay in this Best Western or any Best Western again.
Hotel was lovely and clean! The reception and cafe staff were polite and couldn't help enough! Even the clean lady was polite and very smiley and happy! Value for money was well worth it and will stay again next time we need to stay in the area!..
I arranged a motorcycle trip for a group of 12 friends to tour in the Brecon area. The Best Western offer of 3 nights B&B for the price of 2 was £104 in total. In the event, 3 of us decided to stay an extra night which only cost an additional £57. 4 nights bed and breakfast for a total of £161 you would have to go some way to better. The room was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Well done and thank you Best Western.
Firstly after reading most reviews on here i genuinely must have stayed at a different "hotel" because i have never been so sorry to hear my sat nav say "you have reached your destination" The setting is awful (basically a service station) just off a very busy roundabout on a very busy road with a McDonalds ,a garage an over priced spar shop and a 24 hour KFC drive through around 10 feet away (not shown in pictures on website) The "hotel" itself is in my opinion very basic for the rates charged with small basic rooms running 15 feet parallel away from a very busy road so you are unable to open windows when hot but you do have a small fan. The facilities again are very basic and again not the impression i got from the online pictures The small reception area is also the bar area which is also the dining area where you can "enjoy" breakfast consisting of what appeared to be microwaved bacon, rubber scrambled egg which again seemed freshish out of the microwave some dry sausage and some beans which you can accompany with some make your own toast and make your own tea/coffee, i did actually call prior to booking to ask if they did a full English breakfast the answer should have been NO WE DONT I have also read reviews stating you can get good value drinks from the "bar"?really? £4 is a good value bottle of luke warm beer served from reception which you can then enjoy in a car park watching a queue for a takeaway drive through how ambient We booked here for 2 nights were going to leave after 20 minutes but stuck it for 1 night, Can not fault any of the staff who were helpful and friendly but i would question the description , images and some of the reviews of this "hotel" which is described as" boutique" not a word i would use
We were just looking for an overnight stop, traveling from North Wales to the South coast and this came up as an option. Cheap, comfortable and clean with very helpful friendly staff. With lots of covid precautions in place, breakfast was a takeaway bag containing a bacon or sausage roll, a tub of fruit and a coffee. KFC next door provided an ample evening meal. What more do you want? Perfectly located for the M4 motorway.
Very efficient service, clean room and very comfortable bed. The hotel is conveniently placed near food and fuel outlets, also on the junction of a number of main roads. Despite its position our room was quiet (with the window shut!) a cooling fan is provided in the room.
I had 4 bad nights in Premier Inn then came to BEST WESTERN - far better..!! Friendly smiling faces, professional service, super clean room, nice to have a bar aswell and finally a good nights sleep. Defo the best of the limited choice in Pontypool - Best Western is defo the best..!!
Very convenient and did its job without fuss. It was clean, pleasant and had friendly staff. It was very easy to get to work from here because it is situated close to the main bypass road. I prefer this to others hotels in the area.
Stayed here to visit friends who live local and the room and service was extremely good. Nice shower and bathroom, hairdryer, fan and heater all provided in the room. The room layout was spacious for a couple and the decor and room makes the stay relaxing and enjoyable for whatever length of stay is needed. I will be using this venue again in the future.
This hotel is really nice having very clean rooms. With tea coffee and Biscuit which is a nice touch. Next door is a KFC and a short walk Mcdonnalds The across the road is a Harvester. But the hotel reception do a great pizza on site. Also drinks available on site if you fancy a nice beer at a reasonable price.staff very helpful and friendly. It good value for money with private free parking and electric vehicle charging on site. It is situated at a busy service area but the hotel is quiet and a ideal stop off on route to holiday or business trip. I think you cannot beat the quality of the rooms for the price..
For what was paid for the room was excellent value, requested double bed and was not disappointed very comfortable and nice décor. Due to the covid situation, breakfast was a little disappointing. a carry out bag and not the best of quality, but hats off they were doing their best
Great hotel with up to date decor in the room. Extremely clean and facilities all close to hand.....WOULD DEFINITELY recommend staying here!! Quick and easy check in facility and although given the current circumstances (Covid-19) the staff were extremely ameniable and nothing was too much trouble.
We booked this hotel on the day of our travel as a very last minute thing. It was very cheap and convenient for where we were travelling from and to. The hotel bed was very comfy the pillow could of been a little softer. The chaps at the front desk very helpful and gave us the name of a good Indian restaurant which was lovely.
Very good value and spotlessly clean, lovely interior and everything you need for an overnight stay. This was my first stay at a Best Western hotel and would definitely stay again. We were visiting friends nearby and the location was perfect. Can highly recommend this hotel.
We booked the hotel purely for a night's stopover on the way to West Wales, and had low expectations. However, we were very pleasantly surprised. The room was spotless, with a large bathroom and very comfortable bed. Social distancing and hygiene measures were good. Very quiet room despite being near a main road. The price was right, and very good value- but the real credit to the hotel is the check-in staff. You usually expect service to be fairly sterile at places like this, but we were taken aback by how genuinely friendly and welcoming the desk staff were- a really pleasant surprise! They are a credit to the business and left a very positive impression. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a stopover on the way west/east or who wants to explore the Valleys- an underrated and fascinating part of the country.
Visiting family and friends close by and booked a couple of rooms for our family to stay the night. Nice to have your own room and wifi to rest and relax overnight. We were re-charged to do activities the following day.
The receptionist couldnt have made it any more clear she didnt like being there! The room wasnt cleaned the beverages or towels replaced as she was so rude no point in complaining. The shower flooded the room so we had to use the towels from the previous day to dry up the water. Probably the worse place I have stayed. The breakfast was only fit for the bin!
Mostly we are very plesed with Best Western but on this occasion the beds were not acceptable. Twin beds, ok, but they should be 3ft, you let yourself down!!, to add to that they were very uncomfortable and the pillows were awful. I'm not sure if that was just our room or standard?..
I used this hotel before lockdown and my return on the first day they had re opened was like I had never been away. Spotlessly clean, friendly and a feeling that the team had thought of how to make your stay safe and welcoming rather than sterile and distant which was an experience from another hotel locally the previous week
Due to the restrictions there were no facilities to get hot food, not the hotels fault.National takeaway chains in the same carpark.Under the circumstances the staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was adequate,Loads of pillows and slept really well.Limited breakfast on the morning, due to virus. Continental to go if you wanted it
I stayed for one night at the B W Pontypool last week, good points friendly helpful staff, the room was good, electric car charging points. Areas I feel let my stay down, the bar area just serves bottles and mainly microwave meals, the lady did point this out when I checked in. Breakfast was ok but again the hot food was microwaved. For the price paid though I can't really complain, it would make the hotel much better if there was something decent in the way of food available. There is a KFC and McDonalds next door and also a pub across the other side of the roundabout.
I have stayed here many times now on business. Everything is superb especially the very friendly staff. I cannot fault this hotel. Back to the staff everyone of them go the extra mile and I would like to mention Ashleigh , whom for us, has been exceptional and has gone not only gone the extra mile but well over and beyond. Keep up the great work as it makes working away from home a little easier.
Very good price for a short notice booking Cosy, modern room, with just the right mix of facilities ( kettle / simple bathroom with plenty of hot water ) Good location, easy parking Comfy bed with LOTS of pillows
we were impressed by the friendly and helpful staff who went out of their way to make our stay a pleasant one. The room was adequate for our purpose of an overnight stay. we would stay at a best western hotel again
Although it's locate outside the town, the hotel was worth the stay The rooms were modern clean and tidy, although not large the rooms are decorated and well appointed, everything was replaced daily. The breakfast area was not large but the food was plentiful and tasty. There are a number of fast food outlets outside so being out of town was no concern.
Pros: Great staff, esp. Ashleigh & Ben Well appointed rooms Windows open Good shower Comfortable enough bed Good selection for breakfast if you book online for £6 Cons: Noisy if staying roadside Need a maintenance man or someone who can change a light-bulb
All the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Our room faced the parking lot side, not the side on the road so road noise issues were not a problem. However, we always travel with earplugs so regardless, it wouldn't have been a problem. The room was compact and there was a fan provided in the room in case it was a little stuffy. We did use the fan. The WiFi was a bit slow, especially in the early evening but not overly so. We loved that you could buy beer & wine from the front desk at a reasonable price and sit in the comfortable lobby seating to enjoy. We hated to drive and venture anywhere in the evening so our choices on eating were limited to what we could walk to. That was a KFC, a McDonalds or Subway. Not great, but we didn't starve. The breakfast buffet had good variety and was quite good. The coffee was excellent. We thought the hotel was a very good value for the money.
This hotel was close to the venue with easy access. Great value for money and the staff were helpful and friendly. I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again. It's also close to other amenities.
If you like being woken by heavy traffic noise at 5.30 in the morning, this is the hotel for you! Room had a pungent smell upon entry from a smelly shower curtain and took some effort to get the receptionist to do anything about it. One side of the hotel is directly adjacent the busy A4042 so you won't enjoy any views or be able to open the window for fresh air I will not be staying here again. Rest of staff fine.
I was very impressed with everything about this hotel. All the staff I dealt with were happy, friendly and very efficient. Check in was quick and easy. The room was very clean and well equipped with plenty of spare bedding. The only downside was the road noise but it didn't interfere with my sleep at all as I closed the window. Breakfast was a good selection of continental and cooked options. It was served in the main lobby which was nicely set out. It was quiet at 8am but may have been a little crowded earlier on. All in all excellent value for money with great service. Well done to the staff!
If you need your laundry done, find another hotel. Everything else was average. TV and internet were not good. Having to log in and out on use was very time consuming. My room was on the side of the road. I had to have window open and was very loud if the room had Air Conditioning, I coulod've had my window closed.
Not my first stay at the Bestwestern Pontypool metro, however, they rarely disappoint. It is not a 5* hotel, but having stayed in many of similar (and higher) priced options, I can say that you get friendly and efficient service. It only has a bottle bar (but when you have work next day this is more than adequate). Evening meals, are limited but what they have is tasty. Location is convenient for many things, but there is a limit to where you can go other than buy car. Why excellent? It is rare that you find somewhere that makes the most of what it is and exceeds expectations and achieves a level of consistency... Like some budget options.. but with personality...
Rubbish rip off hotel .charging extra money on my bank card for nothing be aware giving your bank details to these people because you may get a shock and we didn't find out until after we had left so couldn't confront them about extra charges don't give your bank details
Odd numbered rooms face a busy road and are quite noisy. Book an even number room which are on the opposite side of the hotel. Room itself was clean and the breakfast was acceptable. Good value for money.
N one of our bridge jaunts and couldn't get a room in Newport on our budget so ventured a few miles out. Haven't stayed in a Best Western for years and what a lovely surprise. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the beds are comfortable. Everywhere is very clean
good hotel for business stay . close to major roads and easy check in . very quiet for a good nights sleep . would be better if it had a separate breakfast are and not in main entrance of hotel. Next to a garage and two eating places which is great if your arriving late for a business trip
Very welcoming and helpful staff, comfy beds and well organised rooms, good buffet style breakfast and onsite parking- we would return. On a very warm night with the window open there was traffic noise, fortunately there was a fan in the room and with the window closed this helped. Good location for trips to Abergavenny, Monmouth and local attractions.
Stayed here for a wedding party in the area. As we came through the car park there was some kids shouting abuse at my car. I think they were making their way to the park. I explained I was worried about my car to the reception. They couldn't of done more for me. They offered me the disabled car park space for the night, so they could keep an eye on my car. Lovely room, comfy bed. Nice bar area. Brilliant staff. Great stay.
Stayed 1 night as a couple .we don't smoke but when we got home found that the hotel had taken 150 pounds from our bank for smoking .absolutley fuming .don't give your bank details to these thieves .uncarimg when we tried to sort this out with them
Within 10 mins of entering my room I was back at reception advising there was no active wi fi in my room and requested it be changed. I was told that the hotel was full and this would not be possible. I checked the BW app and, suprise suprise I could book a room for the duration of my stay. Even though the receptionist claimed they were full. I then explained that as I was working I needed working wi fi so wanted to check ut and find alternative hotel. I was then told that I would not be eligible for any refund for the 3 nights I had pre paid for. I emails best wstern customer services and, as yet (4 days after the event) have not had a reply. I had an odd room number and, as others have said these are VERY NOISY as they are next to a main road.
A warm and welcoming hotel. Staff are very friendly. We had a twin room and although the beds were a little on the narrow side they were comfortable. Room was clean with all the ammenities. Good breakfast; a nice array of breakfast items and the area was well maintained by staff. Some other hotels resemble feeding time at the zoo! Definitely going to stay here again.
Fantastic room , clean warm great bar , close to garage , macs , kfc, harvester pub ! Would stay again ! Keep up the good work as of all Best Western hotels ! The bed is so comfy, Power shower , The list goes on !
It was perfectly located for a visit to the Brecon Beacons. Staff were friendly and there were nearby food options with a petrol station, KFC. GREAT value for money. Housekeeping was a bit slap dash. Had to specifically ask for towels not to be removed every day (would expect the 'leave them on the floor' message to be standard by now).
Stayed 1 night left the next day and found out we had been fined 150 pounds and that they took it from our bank account for smoking in the room ,we do not smoke so complained to the hotel and the owners ,we were told of evidence in the room of smoking which was obviously a lie as we don't smoke ,so please be aware when giving your bank details to these thieves ,
Although adjacent to many busy useful facilities the Hotel was quite, well maintained and staffed with friendly polite local people. Rooms are just the right size and well facilitated. The exterior parking entry/exits are minimum.
Hotel was nice, had everything you need for a business trip. Rooms are a bit small but enough. There are some nice restaurants around for food and the hotel does so food aswell. Breakfast had a good variety and the staff were really nice.
Room and bath area were very clean, the beds were comforable . All staff personnel were polite, courteous and professional. The hotel has ample parking and easy access from highway. Shopping is within a few miles with fast food restaurants just beyond the parking area. Sites and attractions are scattered all around this area from castles to a wonderful historic coal mine. I would definitely stay again when passing thru.
Had a one night stay with special offer.Staff efficient, friendly and helpful.Room generous in size and adequately equipped.Bathroom, though not requested was.for disabled persons' use so larger than usually found in en suite hotel units.Breakfast was included but as the deal hadn been so good anticipated a Continental style breakfast. However a complimentary English breakfast was available in addition which we enjoyed. Normal prices may be similar to nearby hotels but if you manage to find a special offer you're going to get a bargain.
10/10 for everything, including the location of the hotel for our overnight needs & in particular the Manager, Stephen, from Dublin, who was the true Master of Ceremonies & helpful, well done Stephen you deserve the accolade...
Amazing staff - did everything to be very helpful . The road side is not bad - aircon works fine window closed either way. The staff are honest about the dinner menu, its microwave but still looks good .. will stay again when passing
The Best Western Pontypool Metro Hotel, may be quite small and similar in some respects to certain chain hotels of the budget variety - but the customer service and atmosphere is far more friendly than it is "chain". I have read some comments about the road side rooms, this puzzles me, as while the traffic noise can be heard at rush hour, in general I did not find it an issue at all; especially given the convenient location and compared to some I have stayed in else where . Rooms are clean and tidy, staff excellent and prices reasonable and the showers excellent, as a business traveler I can not ask for more and would not hesitate to recommend it. It is a bottle only bar, and the menu is not expansive - however this did not cause me any problems, after a long day, a few drinks, bit of food and a good nights sleep...is all want.
Firstly, I must say that the staff were fantastic in both their professionalism and their friendliness - the rating would have been lower without them. When booking I was expecting a standard Best Western which from experience is an individual hotel with its own character -especially as the blurb about this one says it is a "boutique" hotel. Unusually, I obviously did not pay enough attention to the reviews as overall it had a rating of 4.5. It is a motel style of accommodation in a service area, a taxi ride away from anywhere. We had a room on the roadside (All odd numbers for anyone about to book) and being on a Saturday night there was traffic noise throughout the night. If service was 5 star, location is 1. The wifi seemed to have a limit of 1 hour which wasn't a problem for us but could be for people on business. The bed is quite hard but that suits us but the bathroom is very tight. As our stay coincided with a rugby match at Cardiff we ended up paying over £100, plus breakfast, which is expensive for this type of accomodation in its location. Thanks anyway to the staff for all their help
Stayed one night .When we got home found out they had stolen 150 pounds for smoking even though we don't smoke .don't give your bank details you might get a shock like we did no chance of getting our money back
If you fancy a visit to the grand prix but can't afford it, room 115 at the BW Pontypool is the room for you. You can spend the night listening to cars, lorries and motorbikes as they hurtle down the A4042, with the advantage being that your room is only a few metres away from the circuit offering the additional thrill that if one comes off the road, you'll get an even closer view. Internet speed is pitiful.
We stayed at the Best Western in Pontypool for a stopover for a weekend away. The location of the hotel is very good and situated very well for the area we visited. When we arrived we were greeted by a lovely friendly man who couldn't have been anymore helpful. He was also on the morning for breakfast and was exactly the same, nothing was too much trouble and he was also very happy. We also met a lovely lady on reception who was lovely, friendly and very knowledgeable. Our room was extremely clean, crisp and very spacious. Even with the sofa bed out for our son, there was so much room. The shower was also very good, and we had some lovely coffee and tea. There was also a lot of available parking. We had breakfast at the hotel, which was included in our room price. I was very surprised for a hotel that doesn't have a restaurant at how tasty the food was and how much was available. I am both vegetarian and gluten free and was given gluten free cereal (never had this before anywhere) and had so much selection of foods to eat, I cannot fault at all. Overall, we were all very sad that we had only booked for one night we would have loved to stay for longer. The hotel is very family friendly with amazing staff and we cannot wait to come back and stay again.
Visited as I had business in Cwmbran. Although the rooms very clean & staff lovely - I had to spend over 6 hours on their support line to fix the wifi. It cut out every five minutes, sometimes less, and was very slow. As I was here on a business trip, and it was crucial I could do conference calls on Skype it completely ruined the whole trip and I couldn't do my work.
Stayed for one night ,we are non smokers ,but the next day found the hotel had stolen 150 pounds from our account for smoking in the room, absolutely not true ,be aware people they can rip you off, tried to complain but they were not interested in what we gad to say ,they didn't take the money until well after we had left
Stopped at Best Western Pontypool Metro Hotel for a night whilst visiting family in the area. Absolutely brilliant. You are greeted in reception very warmly with a charming receptionist and directed to your room. The rooms are presented immaculately, bed very comfy, good lighting and very clean. Great for stopping over and will definitely be stopping next time visiting family.
wanting a place to sleep after a social occasion nearby, we booked primarily because we got a very good deal. Situated on a busy roundabout on the A4042, it is an easy drive (about half an hour to the centre of Cardiff) and close to the lovely market town of Abergavenny. We were lucky to get a quiet room on the car park side of the building, at the far end, it had all we needed - a comfortable bed, good clean bathroom with shower and nice fluffy towels. As other reviewers have mentioned, the staff go out of their way to offer a friendly service and are very helpful booking taxis etc. Breakfast is completely self service, but adequate for our needs
Stayed for 2 nights while visiting the area on business. Initially concerned with the location very close to a main road. My room was very nice, great decor, comfy bed and good bathroom. Yes, I could hear the traffic but despite having a room on the 'wrong' side of the building, the noise was acceptable. The road was quiet overnight. Friendly staff and buffet breakfast was ok.
We have stayed at this hotel a couple of times now while visiting friends close by as they are renovating their house as would really recommend it. The rooms are really clean and have the most comfortable beds!! Staff are very friendly and it is perfect for what we needed.
This hotel had a lovely friendly feel I stayed with my 2 grown up daughters in a family room which for the 1 night we stayed was perfectly adequate with tea coffee making facilities free Wi-fi and a large TV. My only niggle was that having booked for 3 adults the room had only been prepared for 2 so had to ask for extra supplies and how to put up the pull out 3rd bed
Very nice hotel, clean, well designed. Wonderful staff, very kind and helpful. They were helping with all my requests as I stayed there to work night shifts. I highly recommend the place, especially because of the professional staff.
Nice enough hotel, our room 109 was very noisy with traffic noise all night. Bed very compfy and room very clean with everything you need for a nights stay. Great staff both on reception and at breakfast, buffet style breakfast was ok. The hotel is not near a train station so if your going into Cardiff you either need to drive to Newport train station or get a taxi.
Stayed for a business meeting, no AC so if it's hot your only option is to open the window, however the racetrack to the rear means you wouldn't open the window, you have 2 options, melt or don't sleep due to the noise. The breakfast was very basic. Disappointing
We have just returned from a short break at The Pontypool Metro and had an excellent 4 day holiday. We were delighted with our room which was well serviced and comfortable and would particularly like to thank Ashleigh and Tracey for their warm and friendly welcome. Small things like big fluffy towels and easy to use showers. I did not have very high expectations of this short holiday having been warned that Pontypool is industrialised and scruffy and it always rains in Wales. Neither was true. The Metro is not in Pontypool itself but in a services area which for us was quiet and convenient as it is on an island with roads leading in all directions. Also available on site is a KFC, McDonalds and a Harvester Inn. The weather was mostly sunny and the places we visited (Abergavenny, Blaenavon and the Big Pit, the Brecon Beacons etc.) were a delight, We found the Welsh people we met helpful and friendly and we will definitely go again.
My partner and I Stayed here for a couple of nights whilst we had the builders in !!! Staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful, the room was spacious and very comfortable. Breakfast was good value,
All good with room / cleanliness / facilities / price. - but unfortunately roadside rooms are noisy due to main dual carriageway right outside. Position is slightly odd tucked away beside a KFC and petrol station.
We stayed here for a night and booked a triple room the staff were very friendly and the premises was very comfortable. Would highly recommend everyone. Thanks every at Best Western Pontypool. It is in the middle of Brecon Beacons , Cardiff and Newport
We had a disasterous start to the night when we booked into another hotel and had to leave because it was unsuitable. After much searching and driving around we finally found this hotel and let out the best sigh of relief... it was after midnight when we checked in, the man on the desk was friendly and I cannot fault the hotel at all.... thank you... we slept like babies after a fraught few hours prior to finding it!!!
My partner and I have stayed here twice this year so far. The staff are lovely, the breakfast is nice. There has never been any issue with our room or anything. Quite close to Usk. Surrounded by McDonald's, KFC, petrol station (shell one so expensive) the only down side is that there are big signs for Starbucks and disappointingly it is just a machine in the hotel. Which both times we've gone to use it, it's been shut down. That didn't effect our stay though. No doubtfully we shall be returning again this year as we go to visit family.
I stop at this place 2-3 times a year. Secure parking. Immaculate rooms, comfy beds and most importantly friendly, helpful staff. The manageress runs a happy crew and each one made the effort to ensure a comfortable stay.
We were on the way to Tenby and to cut the journey booked a stay here. The hotel was fine in terms of the bedroom but I expected more in terms of a bar area given previous Best Western stays. Luckily there's a Harvester you can drive to in two minutes which was nice. Sleep quality good as we had requested a quiet room in advance. It's a typical service station hotel but the staff try hard to give good customer service.
Had a very good nights sleep, and an equally good breakfast. No complaints at all, it's by a busy road, but that is clear before you book, and didn't cause me any issues. Clean and tidy, nice shower, and basically that's all i came for.
Unfortunately the hotel is right by a busy road so I couldn't leave the window open at night, and even with the window shut it wasn't quiet. An unhappy looking receptionist refused to give me any paperwork for my stay! A very poor first impression!
I stay at this hotel most weeks, and as most people who travel for work know, hotels, however fancy they are come down to people. The whole team here are just lovely, nothing is too much hassle, even when it should be! The place is spotless, homely and has a charm about it very difficult to find in a business or casual stay hotel. Rooms on the car park side are the quietist, and in summer, especially this one are quite warm, no air con. Don't go thinking this is in the heart of some scenic setting, it shares a location with KFC and McD's, but not 5 mins up the road you are in the most glorious countryside, dotted with some great little pubs, walks and runs. Seriously if you stay away here, bring your bike, from the hotel you can cycle out away from the traffic, down cannels and into quiet little lanes. If you are looking to stay somewhere for work or to catch a match or concert in the area or you are looking for a room that wont break the bank, have clean rooms, great showers, a little bar, fresh breakfast and a chat with the team, then this is the place for you
3 of us stayed in this hotel, 2 adults and 1 child. We were made to feel very welcome. We had breakfast in the morning and the breakfast staff were very very attentive. We travel to wales quite often and generally stay in the premier inn but this little hotel is another on our list now so we will juggle between the two from now on.
Stayed a couple of nights while my own Bedroom was been decorated at home. Surprised how competitive price-wise and free WiFi was included. Staff where lovely although they seemed slightly stretched at times, but they still made every effort to accommodate us. my first stay with Best western. wont be my last
Unpolite and careless welcome, room in a pittyful state (no cofee, no shower gel, not enough towels), the sink was leaking and we needed to listen to it all night cause they didn't mind to take action on our requirement. The cups were dirty, not even a bottle of water in the room. The rooms are faceing a busy motorway...so you can imagine the level of noise. There is no elevator, so you need to drag your luggage on the stairs...but what about disabled persons??? Considering the other comments, rather favourable, once might say that I was simply unlucky. Even so, try to avoid this
We booked a family room 223 for ourselves and our daughter just for the one night. We checked in at 1 pm earlier then actual booking time we just wanted to leave our bags however our room was ready so the lady was happy for us to go straight to our room. The room was very clean and fresh the temp outside was hot something like 27 and they provided us with an electric fan which I was expecting. (Big thumbs up) Only downside was the road noise needing the window open because of the heat i pretended they were sheep to try and get to sleep however the hotel is next to a main road so you can't expect anything else other then road noise! Bed super comfy! Wouldn't hesitate recommending.
The staff make this place Great. They are kind, curteous, and always available to help. The rooms are modern and clean with flat screen TVs and comfortable beds and high quality linen. All you wish for on a busy schedule.
Pros : Good price, fantastic staff (Jen I think in particular was great), good breakfast. Fan supplied, free car park, McD, KFC, Spar (with Subway), Harvester, all nearby. Cons : No air con so in a heatwave is a bit of a challenge. Window has security lock so only opens a little bit. Would have been better if we could open the window fully. Also we had a room looking at the dual carriageway so had to choose between heat or noise! Bar is a couple of drinks behind reception. But overall, all good. Staff are a credit to the company.
We returned to this hotel in July having stayed there in February Upon our arrival this is the conversation we had when checking in Them - Good evening are you checking in? Me - yes please Them - Your name please Me - O'Keeffe Them - Have you stayed with us before? Me - yes we have Them - Recently? Me - Yes in February Now imagine this conversation took place instead - how would I feel as a valued guest Them - Good evening are you checking in? Me - yes please Them - Your name please Me - O'Keeffe Them - Ah, welcome back Mr O'Keeffe, it is nice to see you again and thanks for coming back to stay A CRM system that brings up guests names and that they have stayed before, and acknowledges that you have stayed before has a huge impact on culture and guest experience Just a thought as the hotel is nice
The location is not the most exciting (at the back of a petrol station and McDonald's drive-thru, along a main road) but the hotel is impeccable and the staff extremely helpful and friendly. We had booked a family room and the spare bed was comfortable and big. The linen was crisp and the bedding felt extremely good quality. We had to leave before breakfast but a little bag to take away was prepared for us. There is a little village nearby with a pub and fish&chip shop and there is also a Starbucks in the reception area which is small but comfortable. The prices are usually reasonable but all the hotels in and around Cardiff were extremely expensive the weekend we had booked due to the Ed Sheeran concert in Cardiff. We had a room facing a busy road so it was a bit noisy but overall a very positive experience.
I expected this hotel to be similar to a Travelodge given the price but it was much better. The decor was tasteful and the fabrics luxurious. There were little bottles if shampoo and conditioner. A hairdryer was supplied in every room. Everything was spotlessly clean. I was a bit disappointed it was a shower rather than a bath but it was a very good shower, bigger than normal and very good water pressure. Buffet breakfast a little expensive at £7.50 but that seems to be the going rate these days. Staff friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.
Stayed here three nights. It was lovely and clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing seemed too much bother for them. Any issues were dealt with straight away. The rooms are not the biggest but then you only sleep in them so it wasn't an issue. It's easy to access lots of places to visit in the area such as the big pit and St Fagins. We would definitely stay here again.
The room was nice and clean if not a little snug. It was ok for a few nights but would be limited if staying for longer. Breakfast was good with a choice of Continental of traditional hot items, sausage bacon etc. Very close to a dual carriageway so could be a bit noisy.
we booked last minute after being let down on the previous day by a disgusting B & B. we got a good price for a very comfortable room, excellent service and a great breakfast, especially for a small property with no large kitchen. The room was comfortable, as was the bed, we had a great night's sleep.
I would have given this hotel 5 were it north for the obnoxious jobs-worth serving in the Starbucks in the hotel lounge. She also seemed to be the cleaner, as she made a point of vacuuming and then mopping, around us as we drank our coffees. So what happened? We ordered coffees and I asked if they had a coissant, but was told that as it was 10.00 and breakfast was over, she'd just thrown them all away! To be honest I'm appalled by the waste! Why not continue to offer them through the morning? They had a really sweet looking chocolate covered thing, which I didn't want. As I needed the food to help me take some tablets, I sat down and took out a biscuit. Straight away she was on me, before I'd even taken a bite. “I don't want to be picky, but I can't let you eat in here”. I explained I just needed to take the pills that were on the table in front of me, but she told me I needed to go outside. Well actually I think that is really picky. We were the only people there, we'd bought coffees, I'd tried to buy a pastry. I just needed to take the pills, which would have taken a few seconds. The whole incident and her unsympathetic attitude made me feel really unwelcome and really upset me at the end of an otherwise nice stay.
Lovely staff. Clean rooms. Well kept reception and lobby area. We were made most welcome by all the staff. Went for a family wedding so was convenient for the venues. No noise at all from traffic despite being by the main road.
Very quiet hotel with friendly staff. Room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Only drawback is the limited bar and food choices but there is a Harvester with in easy walking distance. Also near a service stop with the usual chains and petrol.
Several family members stayed at this hotel for a family get together. Quick and easy check in, 1p on your card for ID. Warm and friendly staff. All placed on the ground floor in large clean and tidy rooms. Private parking available with a token given to exit the car park. Very close to KFC, McDonalds, Greggs and a petrol station. Plenty of choice for breakfast buffet highly recommend. Would recommend this hotel and would definitely be my choice when we return to Wales again.
Great room friendly staff and nice buffet breakfast. Private parking close to local services, and late check in. Didnt have to dash out too early in the morning either. Would certainly stop again when in the area.
easily found on pontypool service area, good base for exploring south wales. motel style best western, nearby fast food outlets and harvester restaurant within walking distance, tabletable a few minutes drive away. room nicely decorated and furnished , bed comfortable. staff friendly and courteous. although no restaurant in hotel food is served from reception, well presented and tasty. selection of wines and beers also served from reception. hotel is very quiet even next to a dual carriageway. breakfast very good and served with a smile.
Came to Best Western Pontypool to have a quick tour around south Wales an Cardiff. It is ideally situated and easy to reach off the M4. It has it's own large private car park, exited via a token from reception with a number of eating venues close by. Overall impressed.
Ok this isn't a five star in the traditional sense but relative to value for money, convenience and service this was excellent. Room had everything we needed albeit that it was not large. Good coffee, good tea, biscuits, very comfortable bed, nice towels, effective shower, good sized TV, nice and clean. Staff are friendly. We only had breakfast one day and it was better than expected although breakfast area is quite small. I have stayed in more expensive hotels that don't achieve the same standards of cleanliness and comfort.
Thank you Best Western, arriving at the Metro after an horrendous journey was a joy, the receptionist ,Melanie, was calm and very courteous as she booked us in,explaining, in detail all the facilities available to us at the Metro. The hotel was warm and very clean with a large bathroom, with extra towels and plenty of bathroom essentials, shampoo, shower gel etc,Melanie informed us that if we required anything else just to ask. After a busy, cold, day spent locally it was great to get back to a warm room well cleaned. We ordered breakfast for the following morning, the area for breakfast being rather small, however at first light the "breakfast ladies" Mary and Ashley were great and so very organised, the breakfast on offer covered everything from cereals, fruit, danish pastries, yoghurt, to a full, help yourself English breakfast, with options of scrambled or fried egg, A really nice stay which we hope to repeat next time we are in the area.
hotel is in a service area just outside pontypool next to a petrol station, kfc, harvester etc it is well run and staff are very welcoming and efficient. my room looked to be recently renovated and was perfect for my stay. only downside was that the bar did not have any draft beer and so i had to cross roundabout to the harvester. it did stock plenty of choice if bottles are sufficient. breakfast was in the bar and was good quality - probably better than holiday inn express standard wifi was free and good i would stay again
we stayed at the Pontypool hotel the night before we went to Cardiff airport. It is only a 45 min. drive to the airport. The hotel looks like and felt as it has just had a make over. The room was very clean. we had a good nights sleep. The staff very friendly couldn't do enough for us
Looking more like a cross between a Prem Inn and a Travel lodge you could be forgiven for thinking its unlike any BW hotel you have stayed in before, however the staff were super. The reception doubles up as a bar/restaurant and although we did not use it in the evening the breakfast choice was excellent. The evening bar menu looked reasonable. The room was very comfortable , spacious, and considering it is adjacent to a main road , very quiet. The entrance to the hotel is situated on a service road off a large roundabout, and you have a McDonalds, KFC and Fuel Station all there, in addition there is a Harvester Inn within walking distance - so plenty of choice food wise and a great location for the business traveler. Very good value and would stay again.
Wanted a base for the match in Cardiff without having to be in the city, this was absolutely ideal! Easy access, loads of secure parking and welcome faces! We were looked after extremely well and the staff could not have been better, nothing was too much trouble and always done with a cheerful smile! Room was not the largest but was clean, tidy and had all the standard amenities expected. breakfast was buffet style, good choice of items, all fresh and well topped up. thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would go back again! Thanks
My arrival at the hotel was very confusing. The reception doubles as the bar and also the lounge and breakfast room. The welcome was warm and friendly. As the hotel is situated alongside the busy road between Newport and Abergavenny, you should expect some road noise. I found the room to be very cramped and poorly lit; as I say in the title, this hotel is not for the claustrophobic. I also felt the room was beginning to look a bit tired and dusty. The blind fell down from the window on one day, which is not a good sign. Breakfast is served at 7am, which is a bit late for most guests who appeared to be contract workers. This resulted in most guests wanting to eat at the same time, creating a crowded and most unpleasant experience at breakfast. The hotel does provide parking at the rear and if you want a more quiet stay, I would suggest asking for a room overlooking the car park. Pontypool is not the most exciting place to stay and there is not a great deal of choice. This hotel may be the better of the two nearby establishments but not if you suffer claustrophobia.
Polite, happy staff checked me in. Room was clean, tidy and comfortable. Little bar for an evening drink. Mcdonalds next door for a morning coffee, harvester across the road for dinner. Simple but effective accomodation. Have recommended to colleagues and will return.
We stayed 3 nights here and to be fair the room was ok, clean, warm, comfortable. Breakfast the first morning was very average, nothing very hot, it had stood for a while .... second morning even worse, no juice in 3 of the pots, no brown bread, fried eggs like rubber, scrambled eggs were mush, bacon very pale and limp, again all cold, We thought we would give this morning a chance .....plenty of bread and juice which was a good start, but once again food cold, rubbery eggs and cold pale bacon, Breakfast is not worth it if it's not included, pretty grim, also it's right by the door to car park which of course is opening and closing all the while and so pretty cold.... Hotel is warm, clean and staff nice enough......
Very good value. I had an email a week or so back asking if I wanted the room for £32. Great value for such a great clean, comfy hotel! Would 100% return once a week, due to my job, if I could get that price.
My wife and I had the most wonderful time at this hotel we spent 5 nights there and traveled around South Wales it was brilliant, had Christmas dinner at the Harvester 5 minuets walk away. The staff at the hotel were excellent very friendly and helpful, a special mention to the poor lady with the sore throat she was incredible. I want to also thank the wonderful housekeeping staff working up-to Christmas Day. The rooms were excellent very clean very comfortable bed and excellent breakfast. Being in Pontypool was perfect for traveling we drove all around the Brecons and to the coasts also drove to Snowdonia National Park it's spectacular. I will recommend this hotel to everyone it's wonderful.
Good value hotel ideal for business use in South Wales. You will need good quality (silicone type) ear-plus if your room faces onto the busy dual carriageway. Comfortable bed, good TV and quality tea and coffees bags in room albeit only two of each.
This hotel is far superior than the other two main players in the area. The hotel is fresh and bright when you walk in with a lounge area and small bar area. Rooms are boutique style and bright colours. Comfortable beds, just what you want after a long drive.
My debit card was charged for £150 by the hotel manager. We were never advised of charges and only discovered the withdrawal when checking our account. We contacted them and they advised us that the charge was made because they claimed that we had been smoking in the room. We absolutely deny their claim but they stated that the room smelled of smoke. They had their money so no matter what we said would change their minds. We are currently taking action to recover our money. Just to warn everyone that once you sign conditions form, you might be open to accusations made after you leave.
I spend a lot of time in hotels and having stayed here a couple of times in the last few weeks, I've had some of the best sleep here than many other hotels. People should know they don't have a restaurant on site for and evening meal. In walking distance, there is a KFC and McDonalds and a garage shop. However a short drive away there are some local food options. Access is via the services, not off the main road. While it's next to the road, I didn't hear any noise.
Spotless Hotel, friendly staff, quiet setting, plentiful at breakfast well worth the £7.00 , reasonably priced bar. Need a car to get around. Harvester restaurant across the Roundabout but very busy road so need to take care . Macdonalds and KFC and petrol station all right next door . Will definitely be back
We stayed here for the weekend to go and see Anthony Joshua fight at Cardiff! What a lovely hotel! Half hour from Cardiff by car Hotel is next to 24 hour McDonald's! Defo needed that when got back lol Harvester, KFC and petrol station! I can't complement the staff enough especially Melanie and Kelly what lovely ladies! They were both so helpful throughout the whole of our stay, they always had a smile on their face and was lovely to chat to and told us all the info we needed to know ie getting to Cardiff! The hotel itself should be very prod to have such lovely friendly staff! Rooms were very clean and comfortable, ideal location if you would like to explore other surrounding areas such as Newport, Pontypool, Abergavenny etc bar was open all day/evening Would definitely stay here again well worth the money! Thank you for having us
Excellent Staff and the rooms are well presented. As it's a small hotel, the menu in the evening is limited but there's other options available nearby. Very cosy hotel will definitely stay again when in the area.
My wife and I wanted to visit an aged aunt and uncle in Newbridge and to make a "pilgrimage" to Abertillery, my wife's birthplace. This modern hotel is located off a large roundabout next to a Shell petrol station, Kentucky Fried Chicken and MacDonalds. Within the Shell complex there is a convenience store, including a Greggs bakery outlet and "Sub" sandwich counter. The lodge type hotel allows check in from 2.00pm. A full breakfast can be had for £7.00 per person, but not being much of a breakfast eater, the adjacent outlets provided all I needed for a couple of pounds. Good clean facilities with free wifi. We would certainly use this place again. Despite being next to the main road, our room was quiet.
We stayed here for one night and were impressed by the overall quality of the hotel The room was very clean and well laid out with everything you need. There is a small restaurant for breakfast and a well stocked bar should you choose to use it. All of the staff encountered were very pleasant and happy to help. We have stayed at Best Western hotels in other parts of the country and always found them to be good value for money. Worth considering without fail if you are looking to stay in the Pontypool area.
Stayed here for two nights whilst attending a wedding in Newport and was not disappointed. Reception staff were pleasant, efficient and helpful. Although the room was not as large as we have had in previous hotels, it was clean and equipped with all the usual toiletries you expect from the B.Western brand. Also tea/coffee was also provided. The bed was extremely comfortable so we had a very good sleep after a six and half hour journey from the north of England. The hotel was very quiet also. We had a good breakfast to. On arrival we had a snack in the cafe area, which although was a microwave meal, it was fine for our needs. If you want a more substantial meal there is a Harvester restuarant just across the bypass or a KFC for the usual fast food. If I was in this area again I would certainly come back.
BW Pontypool Metro is a 'motel' rather than a hotel. Ideal for overnight stays. The establishment is well presented and well run. Rooms are small but spotlessly clean and nicely furnished. A good 3 star facility. Spacious secure free car park.
Really efficient response when booking with a specific request re room booking:I had initially booked a twin instead of a double in error which they immediately switched for me. On arrival at reception the lady confirmed that my room request / booking was as promised as per specific request (away from road & on an upper floor). Thestaff were exceptionally friendly & welcoming. The room was spotless, totally devoid of any traffic noise. The bathroom was very clean, gleaming and the shower was great. Late in the evening I rang down to reception as I had forgotten toothpaste - the receptionist responded immediately & pleasantly delivered it (& extra tea bags) to the room immediately! Breakfast was fine - basic, filter coffee is poor which is the only complaint I can find with this hotel. The staff are lovely - ALL very helpful & friendly. Good value for money.
Stayed here for weekend as base for walking in the Black Mountains. Good location and great value but as in 'Services' we were expecting a very basic 'travelodge' experience. However the rooms were very clean, comfy bed, good towels and toiletries. The reason for the high score though is due to the staff..efficient but friendly and personal service. Will stay again.
Had booked a room online for BH Saturday to break the journey en route to Swansea. Paid £54 for 2 including breakfast. What a bargain. All Best Western hotels are privately owned apparently. We found out that the gentleman who owns this Metro, used to furnish hotels and this was reflected in the cleanliness and decor and attention to detail. This site used to be a Travelodge and if all Travelodges were like this then Premier Inn would be out of business pretty quick. Lovely toiletries, and the bar area is 24hrs. Complimentary tea/coffee in room with usual long life milk but if you want real milk you just have to ask at reception. There is a Premier Inn over the busy main road with a Harvester next to it. Also McDonalds and a service station with onboard Subway and Greggs in adjacent. Special mention must go to Melanie who was on duty when we arrived. We were an hour early for check in and popped in to ask if it was ok to use the private car park (was going to take lunch in Harvester, but Mel asked her colleague to see if our room was ready (it was) and immediately arranged for us to book in. The hotel was fully booked so we reserved breakfast for 8am Sunday morning. The only criticism here was that someone forgot to put a filter in the coffee machine so we both got a mouthful of nasty. That was easily overlooked with a conveyor belt toaster that actually browns both sides adequately after the bread takes just one journey! If we have a requirement to return to the area then this will be our number one choice to book.
Booked two rooms, a family and a double for a quick visit to family and too increase the adventure for the little ones. Very impressed with the welcome and the hotel in general. Both rooms were spacious, clean and tidy. Also close together so never felt out of contact with the teenager in his own room. Both rooms had all you need including additional toiletries, bedding and towels. Reception staff were welcoming, clear and efficient ensuring we had what we needed. Reception/bar area is appealing and smart. Plenty to offer all travellers and tastes too. Will definately stay again.
We stayed here for 4 nights recently and I have to say it was faultless. I have my daughter with me and she is a world class complainer and even she could not find fault!!!! LocatIon worked for us, just out of town with MacDonalds amd KFC close by. The room was immaculate. Very comfortable bed with quality linens. We had a bath and a shower. Lots of hot water and great pressure on the water. Massive fluffy white towels. We had breakfast. It was £7, what a bargain. As much as you can eat and drink, but it was all very good quality. Her who moans, even thought the bacon was delicious and very tasty. I stay in a lot of hotels and you can always tell which ones have good managers, you can tell because of the staff's attitude. Staff here were really helpful and friendly. Breakfast and reception staff are clearly a good team. In summary you get the quality of a Marriott with the price of a travel lodge.
I cannot fault this hotel, room was great, bed very comfortable, bathroom modern and plenty of hot water Breakfast very good Staff friendly and helpful Great location, easy to get around. Highly recommended
We found that this hotel met out needs for our trip to South Wales. We found the rooms to be comfortable and clean albeit a little on the small side. The breakfast set us up for the day, however the staff at breakfast were a little sharp and felt overpowering. On the whole I would recommend this hotel for a one night stay if you were requiring easy access into Cardiff, as we were.
Max value for money; the room have everything you need, top cleaning, powerful shower, comfortable bed with 6 pillows, and top service: To ensure the most quiet room we got a top floor room facing the parking lot – and we didn't hear a sound any of the nights (with open window). Parking is free and location is perfect with 15 minutes walk to a world class Indian restaurant. Only minus is the breakfast; that is a sincere waste of any sum of money. Suggest instead you eat at McDonalds or Subway next door. Would definitely stay here next time we are in the area; this is comfort you can count on.
Excellent hotel. Spotlessly clean the friendliest staff on the planet. Superb breakfast. Outstanding value for money.Nothing was too much trouble. Will definately return. The staff even helped us with the details of our return train journey. Thankyou.
Pros: Cosy room with a comfortable bed, good location for motorists, friendly staff, good roller blinds. Cons: The automatic car park gates do not recognize motorbikes, which led to a bit of a hassle each time we wanted to enter the car park. Some parts of the room were not dusted for a while as well.
Nothing like a 'star' rated hotel, but it was cheap and extremely cheerful for its price. Reception was cheerful and welcoming with both bar and dining facilities within the area of the foyer. A night service was available, with the bar closing when you fell off your stool. The rooms were not the largest, but for their intended purpose they were very comfortable, as were the beds. Extra towels and toiletries in a draw were a big plus. Breakfast was a hot and cold buffet affair with a reasonable choice, sufficient to set up a locally working contractor or onward travelling businessmen. ultimately, would I stay there again and /or recommend to some one else? no contest, yes.
Hotels looks a bit like a conversion from a Travel Lodge or similar. Rooms a bit small but adequate. Bed, shower facilities all good. Small breakfast area, better to book time. However there is a Greggs and Subway next door which do the trick. Comfortable enough if passing through.
We stayed here after doing the 4 waterfalls trail. + perfect location; + starbucks inside the hotel; + petrol station next to the hotel; + greggs next to the hotel for a selection of bread; + iron and hairdryer is in the room. - smaller room than expected; - small bathroom; - limited selection on breakfast; - no airconditioning but a fan is included. Tips: + if you like starbucks, you can upgrade your breakfast from £7 to £9 with a tall Starbucks.
Stayed for 2 nights whilst on business in the area, this is the second time I have stayed here and I was not disappointed. Staff are lovely, rooms are a tad on the small size but has everything you would want. As it's a Metro Hotel is has no dining room but you can purchase and eat food in the small area of Starbucks. Although I didn't have any the menu was very nice. If in the area I will stay here again.
My wife and i stayed there 3 nights, it is a new modern hotel , in a really good central location, as it is new everything is spotlessly clean, very comfortable beds, nice bathroom , but the thing that really makes this a 5 star hotel at a mid range price, is the staff, all three of the ladies that we saw were ,very yery helpful, knowledgeable about thing to do in the area, , the breakfast buffet is good with lots of choices, but a bit pricey at 7 pounds, when the Harvester across the stree t is only 5 pounds ,but that's just a nit pick,we would stay there again, superb.
I booked this hotel as i wanted a hotel that was easy to access after a 19 hour flight and a 3 hr drive from Heathrow. The welcome was genuine and the room comfortable. The best part was having a kettle to brew a tea then falling into the most comfortable luxurious bed imaginable. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for convenience and a guaranteed fantastic good night sleep.
I stay here approximately once a month. The rooms are spotlessly clean and the beds so comfortable. Lovely flat screen TV with a good selection of channels. Bathroom spacious with a powerful shower and lots of pure whie, fluffy towels. Staff are incredible and can't do enough for you .
Stayed here for 2 nights on business. On arrival was greeted by the very friendly staff, who made it seem nothing was to big or small to ask them! The rooms are finished to a high level, very clean and comfortable. Even though you are near the A4042 the road noise is kept to a minimum. They offer a small selection of food in the evenings as well. It is surprisingly good, although it would have been nice if they had a note somewhere mentioning they didn't have one of the meals that I REALLY wanted! Overall I would wholeheartedly recommend staying here.
we stayed here over Easter whilst visiting family, the hotel and rooms were spotless and very well decorated. the staff were so welcoming and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. the buffet breakfast was well worth the extra cost and everything was served freshly cooked. Great having a bar and Starbucks on site for that evening drink. would definitely stay here again.
After a rotten start with my company card not being accepted as a deposit (own fault not the hotels) I had a really nice stay here. I was in 202 which was really comfortable and has everything you need in a hotel. The shower was really powerful and kept its temperature well. The bed was really comfy and my room was freshly made everyday. The one thing I think they could do better with is the pillows. I didn't complain or ask for anything else as you have 6 pillows on the bed. But mine were pretty thin and hard. Didn't make me sleep and less though. Didn't use the food and drink facilities but they looked popular. I'd stay here again
Easy to book, good price, easy arrival and departure. Comfortable room. Reception called me after I left to say that we had left items in the bathroom which they would keep safe until we returned for them.
I travel to this area for work purposes and I honestly would not stay anywhere else. The hotel is a small and clean hotel. The staff are amazing here and that is why I keep coming back. Extremely attentive, polite and helpful. They are always happy to help and constantly have a smile. The rooms are of a standard size. Good TV with freeview, excellent storage, tea and coffee facilities and it is quiet. The bathroom has an excellent shower!!! There is also ample parking The beds are simply the most comfy beds I have ever slept in and the pillows are plentiful and good quality!! You will sleep well. They also serve Starbucks coffee and have a computer with Internet access should you need to use. There is also a vending machine. I think the breakfast is really good. All the basics you need for a full English plus all the continental...it costs about £7 for breakfast - which is a buffett, what a bargain!!! Location - it is situated on an area of a "services" but don't think motorway services. You have a KFC, McDonald's, Subway and Greggs on your door step. BUT the hotel also serve their own food which is really tasty and the prices are not rediculous!!! This hotel has a mixture of business and leisure guests - I personally like this hotel as a lone female traveller I feel completley safe. You will really enjoy a stay here, whether for one night or several. This is my go to hotel!!! May I say thank you to all the team who work here :)
Had a lovely stay at the great western .staff were lovely .Only thing was i asked for a ground floor room but got one on second floor .no lift i booked on internet didn't make a fuss should had said somthing .only other downfall was the room we had was small .It was really clean and had everything we needed nice decor to .would stay again
Great little friendly hotel, lovely rooms and simple lovely facilities like a mini starbucks on site...breakfast is fine good choice..lovely coffee... Good location for us..to access local area to see family ..would happily stay again
Lovely staff, clean rooms, everything you need. Just an overnight stay for us. You can get a drink or a coffee in the bar/reception area and there is plenty of places where you can get a bite to eat nearby. All in all a lovely stay would definitely stay again
I stayed here to meet up with my business partner to catch up with some work. Hotel was easy to find with loads of parking. Rooms were really large, new looking with comfortable beds and excellent tea tray etc. Room even had an armchair and a little sofa. Immaculately clean with nice toiletries. Bath was tiny. You need to be aware food is very limited - no restaurant just a tiny cafe. That said breakfast was fine. There is a Harvester nearby or Macdonalds. Would definitely stay again.
Comfortable hotel and very cosy and clean. Staff very welcoming. However, do not have the breakfast if its not Buffet. As there was not a lot of customers the hotel decided not to run with the Buffet Breakfast and cooked individual orders. We ordered the usual Full English for £7 per head. Amazed at the speed from order to plate arriving on the table...3 minutes flat. However all the items were microwaved, Sausage were like tubes of leather, baked beans so hard that they could be used in a pea shooter and bashed up non flavoured boxed scrabbled egg....only thing that was passable was the 1 rasher...pop over the road and there's a KFC, Mc Donald's and Harvester where food is actually cooked.
I found this Hotel one week when there was a conference on in Newport and needed a reasonably priced room. This is a motel style hotel, loosely approximating a small travel lodge in terms of room dimensions. The rooms are well decorated, but will degrade rapidly due to the lower quality of the fixtures and fittings. However these hotels are meant to be refurbished regularly so it should maintain the current quality of the investment is there. The hotel is nice and quiet if the windows are shut. If you are on the side facing the main road, you can only sleep if the windows are shut, and I even used ear plugs as I am a sensitive sleeper. On the car park side it is quieter, and better when everyone doesn't stand outside smoking and chatting. This is a function of the very small bar area cum breakfast room, which means there is a tendency to stand outside in the summer. The Hotel is located next door to a Kentucky Fired Chicken, a Petrol station and a McDonalds and there is a Harvester just across the road. I had breakfast one morning which you pay extra for and really didn't think it was worth paying for, so didn't bother on return visits. All in all the Hotel is comfortable and adequate. Not somewhere you would want to be for more than two nights. It does exactly what is says on the tin, and therefore one cannot complain.
My Son and i stayed for one night on Sat 12th Nov, as a base to go too Cardiff to Watch the Rugby, Good place to stay, staff very helpful and pleasant,i asked how near is the park and ride too Cardiff and they even suggested catching the train from Cwmbran too Cardiff which we did, Thanks again to the two Girls on the reception, Next time my wife and i visit Wales, if there are any rooms we will book this Hotel
Excellent check-in with very helpful lady on the desk. Room and bathroom very clean, facilities fully stocked (tea, coffee, biscuits, toiletries) and all in good working order. Plenty of room for clothes, shoes etc. Very quiet and had a great night's sleep
As we arrived on the 4 Nov , the checking in staff ( woman) was very polite and welcoming, the rooms were lovely and clean and comfortable , however the noise level through the night of returning guests was appalling !! Guest had. O consideration of other guests trying to sleep ! It came to a point in which I had to shout from my room shhhhhh be quiet as at this stage, i was very irritable due to lack of sleep!! Every time I dropped off to sleep I was woken up by guested chatting away very loudly I could understand if our room was on the road side but it wasn't it was room 124 . I was staying in Pontypool not Cardiff ! Breakfast was 2 out of 5 due to not being hot and the bacon that dry you couldn't cut it . Only nice thing was the toast which was fresh !
Stayed at the hotel for a weekend for my friends wedding, wasn't put with the wedding party but was put in the middle of a group of young rugby lads. Had to complain on the first night because of noises levels and the children running around and playing loud music. Staff where really good with sorting out the issue straight away. On the second night at gone 2am again from the rugby lot the adults came back drunk and where making so much noise. Shouting in the corridor. However, breakfast was good in the morning and staff where very helpful when you needed something. Rooms was lovely, very well clean and looked very impressive. I would easily stay again.
Great friendly staff clean modern rooms always a smile at reception breakfast was good lovely bacon KFC and McDonald,s next door Bar at reception nice jack Daniels and coke free wifi and good freeview Will def stay again when in pontypool.
This hotel is in a practical rather than attractive location but we were very pleased with it. We had paid a very reasonable price and we're impressed by the welcome and continued greetings from the reception staff. The room was newly decorated it seemed and very smart and most important had generous features for tired travellers: a good bed.huge bath sheets, plenty of bath products drinks and biscuits.nice lighting and a good TV.The shower was new and efficient.Breakfast(extea) was standard but good for the healthy options.
Came across the hotel by chance when searching for somewhere cheap to stay on the way back to Kent from Pembrokeshire, and it was a reasonable place to stay. The price was good, with toiletries and a selection of drinks included. The room was clean and tidy, and better than expected. Staff were very friendly. Only issue in my room was the water pressure which came and went, making a nice shower suddenly boiling hot !! Would certainly stay here again if I am in the area.
The staff here was excellent. We were still getting used to visiting a new country and felt very welcomed even though we arrived mid evening. It was nice to know that there was a 24 hour staffed desk. The breakfast buffet was satisfying and well supplied. The location near the highway was easy to find but still quiet.
I chose this hotel for a 2-night work trip. I received a warm welcome on arrival and my room was ideal. Coffee/tea facilities in room and a regular hairdryer. Bliss. There was also mini toiletries which I hadn't expected to see. Breakfast offered a selection of fruit juice, cereal, toast and the usual bacon, egg and sausage and you could even boil your own egg. I think most tastes would be catered for. We also had a couple of evening meals and even though they most probably were pre-packed/frozen type meals, they were tasty and good value for money. All that is left to say is how lovely the staff were. We were greeted warmly at any point we saw them which was lovely and very much appreciated. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
Stayed for two nights this week. On arrival and throughout staff exceedingly friendly and helpful. Room spacious, maintained well and kept very clean. The small bar and eating area was a bonus for us as we did not want to drive out. Will definitely stay again.
Booked to stay for three nights with husband, 2 year old and 7 month old baby. Turned up late after getting caught in traffic and ran in with baby and begged for help unloading car as kids were overtired and not very happy! Kara was supercool just took our luggage in, showed us our room and peace was restored! The cot the hotel provided was already set up and our room was on the ground floor and next to reception. The room was big, perfect for the four of us, it was clean warm and comfortable. The babies had a nice bath together before bed each night and we were all asleep by 9! The hotel beds are huge and the mattress topper just means you kind of sink in and sleep, we were near a busy road but couldn't really hear it. Reception wasn't noisy either but you may hear other guests walking (talking!) past your room. The breakfast was fab, lots of choice - the 2 year old thought all his christmases had come at once seeing the buffet! We used the hotel high chair too so again something else we didn't have to pack. Our room suffered a leak during our stay unfortunately, it's not something that could have been foreseen or prevented but the wonderful staff took great care of us and if anything it makes me recommend them all the more. You know if something does go wrong - they will really look after you. We have stayed here previously and will stay here again, special thanks to Kara and Pam who were just fantastic! Thank you!
One night stop-over on the way home from holiday but the Best Western Metro at Pontypool is a gem. When I phoned to book earlier in the week Pam on reception was pleasant, helpful in sorting out ground floor rooms and on checking in even offered to help us assist my inlaws who are in their 80s to their room. The rooms may be small but more importantly have everything you need, are pleasantly decorated and have TVs with a full range of channels. Bathroom is well lit and shower was excellent. Everything was immaculate. Given proximity to a busy main road it was surprisingly quiet. Breakfast was fine - choice of cereal, fruit, yoghurt, toast, bacon, scrambled and boiled eggs, tomatoes, baked beans, sausages. Bethan was busy keeping everything topped up and tidied up and added a friendly, sociable touch to the start of the day. Outstanding. We've paid far more and received infinitively less at a great many higher starred hotels over the years.
Stayed for 2 nights, asked for a quiet room which it was, amenities as you would expect. Staff helpful and friendly. Room clean and a good shower. Basic food available if you require it or there is a Kentucky and a McDonalds next door. Pub at other side of roundabout
Stayed here recently for a short weekend and would thoroughly recommend this hotel. At check in the lady was extremely pleasant and welcoming. Asked if we had stayed before and gave us a full rendition of the hotel and its amenities. The rooms are very comfortable with tea making facilities, open fronted wardrobes including a plasma TV. The bathroom is not overly big but clean and bright non the less. The shower is narrow with a curtain which does what all shower curtains do and tries to stick to you whilst showering. The breakfast was ample plenty of tea, coffee toast & cereals, for me it just looked that everything was cooked in a microwave. The only other draw back is the dining area is restricted and doubles up as the check in/reception and bar area too so can get a little crowded especially at checkout time. This hotel looked to be wheel chair friendly, but there are no lifts to the 1st floor I would stay here again. There is a Harvester, KFC and McDonald's all on the same roundabout as the hotel
Beds are big and comfy, the tv actually works instead of two channels like in most hotels! There is a bar/ Coffey area by the reception which is reasonably priced for a hotel, meals served at certain times. Friendly staff, rooms are quite well sound proofed even if you are in a room by the main road, the shower is warm and most importantly the entire hotel is very clean. On the same site as the hotel is a fuel station, KFC, McDonalds and just on the opposite side of the round about a harvester pub. I always use this hotel when I come up to work on the pontypool & Blaenavon railway and wouldn't want to stop anywhere else
Very nice place to stay for the weekend it was clean, very friendly, comfy and very good value for money. stayed to go to show in Cardiff and was fantastic base to stay. Very good location nice and quiet. Staff were so helpful and friendly made to feel very welcome.
We always stay at Metro Pontypool when visiting family in Cwmbran. Clean, concise rooms at a sensible price. Staff are always helpfull and courteous. Buffet breakfast are very good expevially if you need to get away on time.
This hotel is placed in an area of good road systems to get anywhere in the south wales area and beyond. Far enough from the roads so you do not hear traffic noise. A pleasant 2 nights stay with a room on the ground floor.
I stay at this place regularly and is my preferred choice if I have to stay in that area. This is because of the staff. They are helpful and welcoming. Rooms are clean and well maintained. Overall, good value for money.
We arrived at 12 noon and booking in is at 2 pm. The allocated room was not ready but a run upstairs (by the one of the Jill Friday's) to see the maid, found a room that was ready. We were promptly transferred and duly retired upstairs. All this with a smile and no effort. We returned in the evening to the same friendly reception and enjoyed drinks at the bar. Breakfast was described as continental but had assumed the mantel of a near full English and at £7 should not be missed - again the same friendly, efficient, and ever attentive staff. How the ladies cope is remarkable but with never the hint of other than a smile. The drinks at the bar and the Starbucks coffee are reasonably priced and the ting ting snacks are quite cheap. MacDonalds and KFC are on the same site and a full and enjoyable meal can be had at the Harvester at Cwmbran rather than the local one. In an earlier life the hotel was a Travel Lodge but has been fully refurbished and is some we have light and airy. The rooms are a little smaller than some but as the saying goes, -small but perfectly formed - and hey GLASS tumblers in the bathroom, the beds were very comfortable but the water pressure adequate but a little low' One point about access. The computer map I was using showed the hotel on the A4042 south of the junction with the A472. It is actually AT the junction directly opposite the A472 on the MacDonalds site.
We booked a family room which ticked all the boxes. Bed was comfy had a bath and shower. Room was clean. A lot of our relatives stayed as it was my grandparents wake and they all feel the same. The staff were lovely and on the Saturday evening we took up the whole bar area. We were made to feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble. If we were going to Wales again we would definitely book here. And recommend it to anyone. 5 stars!
Our large family descended upon this relatively small hotel this weekend and the staff really helped to make our stay special :-) We occupied several rooms and then had our local family join us in the bar/lounge one evening and found that nothing was too much trouble for these lovely ladies! They even helped to entertain some of our younger guests which allowed us adults to catch up properly (thank you girls) We would most definitely stay here again!
Quiet location, convenient for travellers off the M4. Good to access the Brecon Beacons and the South of Wales. Excellent service from the staff. Clean room with all one needs. Thought it was a bit overpriced for what it offers.
Nice hotel, clean & tidy. Stayed in Room 116 which smelt very faintly of sewerage, other than that a nice modern but quite small room. The receptionist on arrival was warm, friendly & chatty made us feel very welcome. Would recommend & stay again. Thanks
From the pictures it doesn't look like the hotel is in a service area. When we arrived we thought OMG what have we done. However, once over the shock we were pleasantly surprised. We were greeted by nice friendly staff with smiles around. Their keycard machine was on the blink for 15mins, so we were shown to our room, which was lovely. The rooms are of a good standard and very clean. We thought it would be noisy being on the front near the road, but far from it. In the morning it was very quite, inlike the Novotel we stayed on the Saturday after here. Breakfast was great, we were shown around the selection by a lovely lady. So overall we were pleasantly surprised. Thank you.
We knew the location of this hotel as we had stayed there previously when it was a Travelodge. We only stayed one night and were given a quiet room overlooking the car park as we requested. The rooms are much improved and the small bar and food area are a great addition. The lady on reception was very friendly and welcoming. Location makes it more suited to a quick stopover.
Friends from Camberley Surrey kindly took our offer to visit us in South Wales so a convenient place just off the M4 was in order. Situated off the Pontypool bypass behind the Shell petrol station and near a railway line thought at first this was going to be noisy to stay...but no, very quiet. A Great Western Metro hotel a pleasant, clean welcoming entrance - smart reception and lobby with comfy chairs and tables accommodating the dining area for morning breakfast and serving of 'Starbucks' coffee. After a warm welcome from Adam on reception we made our way to our room. Room standard double bed en-suite bathroom flat screen TV - tea / coffee/hot choc. making facilities. Bed extremely comfortable. Breakfast looked good for price but didn't partake over the time we were there, settling for only a coffee. A Harvester is available close by as is a KFC and McDonalds. Stayed for 3 nights an enjoyable stay - all staff very helpful. Price for rooms very keen when booked in advanced.
I found this hotel on one of the accommodation search engines that are around as part of mini tour of South Wales. I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the renovations to the hotel and the room. The staff were all very helpful & friendly and the breakfast was good even though it was help yourself. The only downside is the hotel is located in a service station area so it is probably best to eat before you arrive. Also it does not have a lift.
Lovely clean rooms that are newly decorated. Great service from reception staff who recommended somewhere for us to eat and booked us a table. Breakfast was a bit chaotic as it is served in the reception area and space was limited, but the food choice was sufficient. Perfect for a short stay.
Stayed here for 3 nights. Very clean hotel lovely staff and in a good location only 5 mins drive to cwmbran shopping centre. We didnt avail of the breakfast but i had one evening meal which was very nice and handy as we didnt want to go out that night. Only downfall is breakfast finishes at 9 which i tbought was a bit early. Will defintley boom here again as its great value for money and has everything you need.??
I was given such a warm welcome and had a lovely, relaxing visit. The staff were kind, friendly and always went above and beyond to make sure I had a pleasant stay helping arrange room service and taxi journeys for me. After a long journey I really appreciated the kindness of the staff. Couldn't rate them more highly.
Enjoyed a really good stay, a warm welcome at reception, the room could not be faulted, much better than I expected. Had a really good nights sleep followed by a breakfast well worth more than the small extra charge. Everything spot on I shall look forward to returning.
Warm welcome and a convenient stopover on a long journey. Room was clean, although not large but very comfortable bed and quite a good restful night. Would definitely use again, if we travel that way, always nice to find a stopover somewhere without unnecessary frills.
We arrived here early as check in is not until 2pm and relaxed in reception with a beer. The receptionist got our rooms ready early for us which we thought was great. The room was brilliant, far better than expected, tea, coffee and hot chocolate available in the room. We even had a fan I asked for an iron from reception but she forgot to bring it up to us so I had to go down and ask again, she couldnt have been more apologetic. We would definitely use this hotel again
The weather was great. Breakfast was lovely and the room service on point. It was indeed wonderful time hanging out here at Best Western pontypool metro hotel. The rooms are so cozy expect that they don't has air conditionals. I wish they had a swimming pool also. Nice ambience.
We booked 3 rooms for 2 nights over the last bank holiday with breakfast included. This hotel is very clean & tidy in both the rooms and public areas. The rooms are spotless with large screen tv & tea & coffee facilities, the bathroom though not large does have a decent sized shower. Breakfast is a buffet but includes hot items with staff available to help. there is also coffee snacks and a bar available 24 hours. All the staff from reception to housekeeping were excellent, & friendly. Stay here with confidence.
Stayed just as a convenient stopover on the way to see family . Meets all my expectations. Very warm welcome, staff always available and friendly. Nothing too much trouble. Room and public areas clean and tidy. Good value for money. Lovely selection of breakfast. All in all a pleasant stay. Highly recommend.
Best Western Pontypool Metro gave us a comfortable night at a reasonable price. The approach to this hotel, behind a petrol station, is not inspiring. But the hotel has good car parking and is close to the main road at a strategic roundabout. The staff were cheerful and professional. My wife and I were lucky enough to get a family room which was spacious and well equipped. The ensuite had a bath/shower, The regular rooms are rather smaller, and just have a shower, but are still perfectly acceptable. The lounge/dining area is not large, but coped easily with the numbers. The hot breakfast was very welcome. Evening meals are also available on site, which is unusual for a hotel at this price point. I understand they are micro-waved, but it still sounds a useful facility, where other hotels offer nothing at all. When we were there the lift was out of order and a room card-lock failed; the staff helped with a will, and I suspect both snags are rare. We will certainly use this hotel again when in the area.
Stopped for one night while visiting relatives and going to a gig in Cwmbran. We paid just £43 room only and plentiful breakfast fare was available for £7 per person. This is a clean modern hotel in which everything is as it should be and the very best thing is the staff, all of whom were excellent.
Very basic considering the 3star rating more like 2 star. Room however was small but clean and bed very comfortable. Breakfast was not up to Best Western standard however all staff were extremely polite and efficient. Not recommended for more than one night.
This is a very friendly hotel. We have stayed there many times and are made very welcome whenever we arrive. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the food is usually very good. Although close to a main road the rooms are quiet and there is adequate parking. They have a limited evening menu, but there is a Harvester and other food outlets very close by.
Excellent service Manager ,and all staff was very helpfull,Room was clean and warm and well appointed,The shower was hot and there was plenty of clean towells to hand Cant comment on the breakfast as we went to harvester for it,If i had one complaint it was traffic noise at 6 30 am but that is out of hotel,s control
I stayed here for a business meeting the following day and ensured that they had wi fi before booking. When I got there I was told it wasn't working and hadn't been working all afternoon. I had left my email and my phone contact and at no point was I informed of this which meant I could not prepare for my meeting the following day. They were still advertising the room as having working Wi Fi that same day and following day even though this was untrue. The lady at the desk assured me they were working on it and would keep me updated but no one bothered to do this. No apology either. Just a KFC or A Macdonalds to eat at. The food I ordered from the limited Starbucks menu wasn't even available. Very bad experience.
Very good hotel, staff are very friendly and the breakfast is ok, Rooms are slightly smaller but still more than adequate, plenty of parking and only a few hundred yards from a harvester, for the kids there are KFC & McDonalds right on the door step. If you like a pub meal try the Horse & Jockey 2minutes away, Brilliant food and friendly people.
room was cold , heating off, took 1 hour to get it warm, bad smell inside the room, manager was rude , hot water in the shower started after 10 minutes , dirty bed , kettle not working , never ever book this hotel again
A very nice good quality affordable hotel to stay in, very clean and well situated. Would be really good if a light breakfast could be included in the price, this would really put these hotels in a really good competitive position, another well known chain does include a good buffet breakfast for the same price, so this should be seriously considered.
I was recommended this hotel by a business colleague and it was in exactly the location I needed. The hotel is modern, clean and convenient and most of all the staff were very friendly and professional - in fact some of the best I have come across and I use hotels a lot for business stays!
Checked in given a room that had not been made up, given a new room this was ok. No restaurant on site, snacks and microwave meals only, after working all day I don't need to be searching for something to eat.
I stay in hotels a lot as a result of my job and usually tend to stay loyal to those I know well. Unfortunately or fortunately in this situation my regular hotel in this area was fully booked due to the rugby over the next couple of days. Given that I now needed somewhere else to stay I went on a hotel booking site and this hotel came up, which is actually closer to my intended destination. My rate for the evening was £45 so it was cheap but I wasn't expecting much. The pictures from the outside also implied it was a generic 'Travelodge' style hotel and if I'm honest I have little faith in Bester Western branded hotels - usually grotty, HOWEVER!! I couldn't have been more wrong about this particular hotel. Yes ok upon arrival you pull off a roundabout to a generic looking building like any other major road services hotel BUT after parking and approaching reception it was evident that this was no boring roadside accommodation. The reception was beautifully designed, modern yet with a slight heritage feel, globes, wooden furniture and alike adorned the reception. Behind reception was a well laid out bar and the Receptionist was lovely and polite with a big beaming smile, very friendly, something lacking in most visitor environments these days. I was quickly and attentively dealt with and pointed towards my room. I stayed on the ground floor in 103. Again although reception was well designed I was still not expecting much for the room, after all I only paid £45!! On opening the door I again couldn't quite believe how well designed the rooms were. Ok so they're not massive but from a design point of view they are definitely on par with 4* hotels you expect in major cities. Bathroom again was lovely and light and came with miniature toiletries of a good standard. My only criticism would be that they give you a large shower (great in itself) but it means the sink and loo are very close together. I consider myself fairly slim and it was tight for me. This however did not detract from the quality. Beds are increasingly comfortable and they have probably some of the most comfortable pillows I've slept on. Although the hotel was so close to the road you wouldn't know it, with trees behind and good glazing I didn't notice it at all. I'm a very light sleeper and traffic usually bothers me but not here! On check-out I was again dealt with by a lovely receptionist who was quick and friendly. I also had chance to have a quick chat with the GM Liz, who was lovely and very passionate about her hotel and Best Western. I also found that having a Starbucks counter inside was great, all your favourites without having to leave. Given that Premier Inn is across the road and charges £65-£80+ there is no way I would choose bog standard over this hotel for less or the same. A brilliant hotel that I'm very glad about stumbling across. Thanks!
We were visiting family and this hotel completely fit the bill. The room was comfy and the service was excellent. We felt very welcomed by the staff, who went the extra mile with helping us to find things to do on a rainy afternoon with our young grandson.
It seems the entire time I was here it was extremely windy outside of the hotel. When I went anywhere else, this was not a problem. So I assume it's the particular area creating some kind of wind tunnel effect. Anyway, the staff were absolutely lovely when I visited. They had no problem making special arrangements for me in the morning for an early breakfast, as I had to drive into Cardiff for a meeting both days. They were friendly and professional at all times. Everything was clean, and nice. They had galaxy hot chocolate in the room, and it was delicious! There was also a selection of tea and coffee. The glasses and mugs were all clean. A kettle was supplied in the room, obviously. There are nice looking toiletries lined up in the toilet (shower gel, shampoo, consitioner, soap). I didn't use them, but they looked very professional - and seem unscented for those allergic to things. There is a fan in the wardrobe, though I did not use it. The heating seemed to take a while to kick in, as it seems it was only one radiator with a temperature adjustment slider on it - and it didn't really heat the whole room. The room was not very warm. The curtains were able to block out all of the light, which helpped a lot with sleep. I often find curtains don't block out all of the light or don't close properly. This was not a problem in this room. Food is available throughout the day, though I did not order from the menu or eat at the restaurant. They do, however, have a Starbucks on site for coffee lovers. The best part of the entire stay, however, was the shower. I'm sure many travellers have had their struggles with hotel showers - hard to decipher how to use, low water pressure, etc. I had no problems with this one. In fact, this is better than my home shower. It was extremely easy to use - just two well labelled knobs for turning. And the water pressure was amazing! There didn't seem to be many other people staying in the hotel, as there weren't many cars in the parking lot. (And you really need a car to get to this place, as it's off the motorway). There wasn't really any noise problems. To get out of the gate in the night, you need a token, which can be obtained from a bowl in reception. I have no idea what the purpose of this is. However, no token is needed to enter - just drive up to the barrier and wait. It's also right next to a KFC, a petrol station and a McDonalds.
Me and partner decided a last minute drive into Wales and managed to find this hotel online it had a fantastic winter rate and the reviews written sealed the deal for us. We were greeted by a lovely receptionist who welcomed us quickly and gave us some great pointers on where to go for dinner and places to explore the next day. The room was spacious and very clean and everything was in working order, the bed was comfortable and we had a pleasant sleep with noise from the road it backs onto. Breakfast in the morning was freshly cooked and had a nice choice and variety. Staff are warm and friendly and it is the perfect quiet place for a few nights if you are passing through and are off out exploring the surrounding cities
My sisters and I stayed here when our father passed away as he lived in South Wales. We stayed here about 4 times while we sorted out his affairs and had the funeral. Staff were very friendly. Breakfast was okay but my egg didn't do well in the funny egg cooker on a stick! My room was noisy as it was right at the end on the first floor on the right, by the road. Pillows hard and I mentioned it to staff the next day. They said I should have let them know as they would have given me others.
Thoroughly recommended as a base for visiting this area of South Wales, very close to shops, pubs and takeaways and around a 30 min drive to Cardiff. Expected noise at night due to the proximity of dual carriageway and two fast food outlets, but never heard a thing! Much quieter than our last weekend away at a rival hotel chain in similar suburbs outside Liverpool.
We've stayed in the metro a number times when visiting family in Pontypool. The staff are really helpful, very friendly and offer a smile every time. The rooms themselves are a little on the small-side but are clean, freshly decorated and have everything you need for a very reasonable price.
Have stayed 2 nights, very well run ,room was excellent, very clean, tidy and comfortable, the staff were really friendly and helpful, the only thing that i would say let it down which is not really the hotels fault is the litter because of KFC and Mcdonalds nearby, its a shame these companies are not keeping the area free from litter as it lets them down as well. anyway would be happy to stay again.
The hotel was clean and moden. It has a small lounge/reception/breakfast area and a coffee bar (also a bottle bar.) Breakfast was basic but plenty of it from cereals, fruit, yoghurt to bacon, scrambled egg, sausage and beans. The room was small, basic but adequate for our usage. It had toiletries, coffee making facilities and a hairdryer. Plenty of plugs, free wi-fi and a decent flat screen TV. All the staff were very helpful and polite. Nothing was too much trouble from more towels to extra milk and coffee. The car park has plenty of room and is next to a KFC, McD's and a petrol station. Over the island is a Harvester and down the road is a Beefeater type place. In the town there is a Tesco with a petrol station (which is the cheapest in the area) and a few shops and a Wetherspoons. It was a great price considering it was New Years Eve so would definitely recommend staying here.
Upon arrival this metro hotel was clean throughout. We were greeted by great staff and this was throughout our stay, they were helpful to us by offering to find stuff out, directions, ordering taxis, and just to chat,. It became like a second home. The breakfast we had was excellent. We did not have dinner etc as it was expensive and as its a metro its not freshly cooked but it is what it is so you cant grumble at it. We stayed for 4 nights and when we were out our room was cleaned and stock replenished though if things are short just pop down and you will be given what you need within reason. Its very quiet, beds were comfortable, the family room was adequate and has freeview tv. free use of the internet in the lobby or wifi though this was slow. all in all we are returning again next year, dont go for hotels in the bigger towns such as cardiff or newport as this is nicely placed for travel. Thie staff at this hotel made our experience staying extra special and thank them for that, and making our short break even better.
My husband and I have just spent 3 nights stay at this hotel, and although the location of the hotel is not ideal the staff who work here made our stay most pleasurable. We had a very warm welcome and were told if we required anything we were to ask. Our room was small but adequate and clean. It does have many characteristics of a Travelodge which I believe it used to be. On our first morning we went to breakfast, which combines with a Starbucks cafe, quite unusual, but we were amazed at the waitress, come chef, come receptionist, who managed the whole affair. The lady had some very demanding customers, who she managed with professionalism, calmness and politeness. She was simply SUPERWOMAN! I have never seen anyone have to do so many jobs all at once! The other staff whom we met were all very friendly, and welcoming. I hope the Best Western managers appreciate that they have a very hard working team at this hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel, not for the area but most definitely for the warm, efficient, welcoming staff. Many thanks to you all.
This is at least the sixth occasion we have visited this hotel and find that the staff continue to maintain the very high standard we expect of them.. Whilst the hotel was owned by Travelodge we stayed at the Premier Inn on the same site but this chain are in danger of pricing themselves out of the market except for business provided by Reps. Undoubtedly the best value for money in our experience and we shall be back in the spring D.V.
We stayed here as we was going to a Xmas party close by. The hotel was clean, good value for money and the staff were friendly. The rooms very nice and modern. The bar was open till late and staff were in hand 24/7. Sufficient parking and Petrol station close by.
We stayed here Sunday 13th December this place they really do go the extra mile nothing was too much trouble from Mary who helped bring in the luaggage, check-in was quick and efficient. We had to go to a funeral on the Monday and for some reason nothing was laid on for family and friends afterwards so we said lets go back up to the Metro Hotel and have coffee so we took 14 people back where we wereserved with coffee by the two girls who were on duty and again great service.. Would recommend this place to anybody.. Great..
Very pleasant. Could not fault them. Friendly staff, spotless throughout. Good breakfast and excellent value for money. I will use them again when I next visit the area. The only comment I can make is that there is no restaurant within walking distance. There is a KFC and McDonalds beside them if you just require fast food.
New modern very clean and warm motel type hotel with breakfast room, some room service items, small lounge bar facilities, very clean and friendly helpful staff. Good soundproofing - adjacent to main road. Accommodation on two floors - no lift. Rooms a little on small side. Good value breakfast with self service elements and some good products. We both slept well - but I woke up with bad back as mattress too hard. Also prefer as a woman a shower with movable rather than the fixed head provided. Bath sundries supplied. Close to KFC drive in, filling station and other restaurant facilities. Other than a mattress which did not suit me, perfectly fine and good value as a 1 night stop ove.
Chose the best western at 8pm on a Saturday night after being let down by a hotel in USK. First thoughts were great price so we booked in. Staff were very friendly helpful and knowledgeable on the are. The room was newly refurbished, very clean and modern, as was the whole hotel. No troubles through out the stay at all.
OK, some of this is "my fault". I did not see the words "Metro" attached to the name for this Best Western. On arrival it had the words "Travelodge" written all over it. Turns out is was one 2 years ago. This means that there is no restaurant/bar on site. Yes, you can buy a beer from the fridge in the lobby and the breakfast is there too but it does not have the warm, cosy Best Western feel that I have got used to. But there is a KFC (Kan't Flippin Cook), Shell garage and McDonalds nearby. The hotel is at the Southern end of a large roundabout. Opposite is a Harvester and a Premier Inn. Sadly there is no footpath along the road so you take your life in your hands by walking along the road to get there, or you can walk on the grass. Not helpful if it's raining/damp. The rooms are quite small and the bathroom even more so. Forget having a bath as most seem to have just a shower, with a curtain that just reaches the tray. Not what I was expecting at all and one reason why I no longer stay at Travelodges. Not often I stay in a room smaller than my bedroom at home. That roundabout has another surprise in the morning. Traffic on the roundabout has priority of course. Thanks to the A472 and southbound A4042 traffic it can take a very long time to get onto the roundabout. Finally a roundabout that WOULD benefit from traffic lights. The saving grace was that the breakfast was of a good standard.
Great place to stay, staff really friendly and helpful. Immaculately clean and tidy, Starbucks coffee and a good self service breakfast option. Micro evening meal if you choose, but there are other places nearby to eat. Reasonably priced and would recommend if on business overnight.
Pontypool Metro Hotel is ideal for a short stay. I recently returned from a two-night stay while visiting Cardiff for the Rugby World Cup. Excellently located for short drive to Newport station and then short (and cheap) train journey into Cardiff. The room I was assigned was very clean and the bedding of excellent quality. Note that there is no restaurant, but a wonderful pub (Horse and Jockey) with excellent food just down the road. Buffet breakfast is very good. The front-desk staff are courteous and very helpful.
We were staying here during the RWC in Cardiff; very comfortable hotel, great staff who were very helpful and welcoming; only criticism would be that the rooms are slightly on the small side; nonetheless, the amenities in the room were first class and we really enjoyed our stay. Would recommend to family and friends in future. Very good location to base yourself if you were wanting to explore the locality which is in the middle of beautiful countryside.
The Hotel looks like its undergone recent renovations especially from the inside. the hotel is tucked away behind a petrol station which at first doesn't seem quite fitting. but works done the less. Its located quite close to the duel carriageway but from my room I was not aware of any traffic noise. The staff are very friendly and helpful and took care of any questions or queries I had. My room was clean, neat a little small to what I'm normally used to but it was comfortable and did the job for the night. If I were in Pontypool again I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
Sole business traveller. Outside the town, off a main road behind a petrol station. Might not sound great but actually very convenient. KFC on the doorstep and McDonalds a 2 minute walk. Hotel is modern, clean and staff are very friendly and helpful. Small bar and they have a small range of microwaveable meals available that are not too bad, after a long day it saves you trying to find somewhere around.
Located near the roadside, the noise from the road was very minimal and did not disrupt our stay at all. Room was very well decorated and although not the biggest, it was ideal for the two of us. Didn't eat there as there is a Harvester, KFC and McDonalds within spitting distance of the entrance to the hotel and we decided to use these to eat at. Overall, it was good value for money as everywhere else was either sold out or ridiculously priced due to the rugby World Cup !!
This must be the third or fourth visit we have made to this hotel since it was taken over from Travelodge. As with previous visits we left having had a first class experience in every way. Without exception, the staff could not have done more to make our visit a very worthwhile experience. In fact it is difficult to add any more to what we have said previously since all our visits have been excellent value for money. We would visit more often if we could afford it.
I have stayed here twice & pleasantly surprised. Rooms are very clean & Staff all very welcoming. Great little bar (Alcoholic Drinks are a bit pricey though) & I love the fact the they're so Honest by actually admitting to serving Microwave meals. Personally Im not a fan of micro meals but at least theyre honest & tell you. The family rooms are nicer than the boxy double room we had & had no shower. All in all it is what it is & very good at it too. Not as cheap as I would of thought but I know sometimes you can get good deals on. Great base for exploring Wales & business stops. only down side is awful smell of KFC next door!
