Walked into the lobby and waited 20 minutes just for someone to show up to check us in, I tried calling the hotel but we could hear the receptionist phone ringing in the lobby. When we got our room key we parked in a dirty garage with a kitchen knife pinned in the corner, trash, and children's toys laying on the floor. We then had to walk up a dimly lit staircase to a room that wasn't properly cleaned and we even had to kill a fly in the room, visible shower stains, and coins on the floor. The room itself was incredibly small but the "closet" is basically a second bedroom with a microwave, so you lose a lot of usable room space for unused closet space. The furniture was visibly damaged, the television stopped working suddenly, and the balcony with a "view" was viewing into someone's residential home. We wanted to wash our hands but there was no hand soap in the bathroom, we called asking for some but after 30 minutes of waiting we went to get it ourselves, only to be handed facial soap as they told us they ran out of regular hand soap! The front desk is atrocious, we immediately tried to get a refund after an hour of checking in (40 min. of which was calling Expedia to get a refund) all they could say was "nothing we can do, no refunds" and didn't offer anything like changing a room until AFTER we stormed out of the office and called us in our room. So we were forced to stay the night, only to learn our balcony window doesn't close properly and the heating made the air quality so poor that I couldnt not stop coughing, so I had to choose between shivering and being able to breath. We do not feel safe staying somewhere with hostile staff and I do NOT reccomend coming here.
This place is a DUMP. I drove up and had a sinking feeling when I saw the outside. It is just an old, run down motel. Despite its stellar location near Asilomar, it has none of the charm of its Pacific Grove location. Inside the rooms they are not at all nice. They are very run down, and they haven't been remodeled in what looks like decades. The furniture is cheap. The bathrooms are full of caulking keeping things together, and the configuration of the rooms is strange. There was a sign on the front door to the building we were staying in that said “do not close door” (an obvious security risk for guests), but I think the reason was because they had mold or something in the foyer outside our room. It had a foul smell that was disgusting, like the sewer had broken and they were trying to dry it out. On a slightly more positive note the towels were new and soft, and the sheets and bed fine. But I felt very icky staying in this place and for over three hundred dollars a night it was a pure rip off. Stay away from here!!!
I reserved two rooms. One for my husband and I and one for my son, his wife and their baby. We got there Sunday afternoon. My son's family couldn't make it on Sunday because my son got off work late. They decided to meet us on Monday morning for breakfast. So we paid for two rooms even though we only used one. They got stuck in traffic and wouldn't be able to make it till closer to noon. Being a caring mom and grandma, I got them a few bagels and cream cheese from the breakfast room. The manager, Ali, followed me and gave me an angry look. Then he approached me and gave me 2 breakfast tickets which I have never heard of. I have been traveling for 50 years and have never been given breakfast tickets. I told him the situation and he said that no one is allowed to take food outsdie of the breakfast area. There was no sign anywhere stating that. I told him why isn't anyone else been given the ticket and I refused to take them because he was signaling me out. He said that if I don't take the tickets, he would check me out and we had to leave. I told him that was fine with me as long as I do not get charged for the night we are not staying there. He said that's fine. But while we were packing and leaving, he called in the room and said that he spoke with the district manager, and I will charged for the night we are staying there. I just got the hell out of there.
The location of this hotel is wonderful. It's tucked away in a quiet neighborhood but very close to main area of Pacific Grove. The hotel is clean and comfortable. We stayed in the downstairs room with a fireplace which was lovely. It was an apartment. If we had known beforehand that breakfast was going to be basically nonexistent we would have bought supplies and cooked in the room. If you only want carbs for breakfast it's for you. But we went into town for breakfast
We stayed in unit 17, which was more like an apartment than a hotel unit. There was a full kitchen (with equipment), dining area, living room, large bedroom, and a sizable deck. The deck did have a drawback, though, as it was fully enclosed by a six-foot fence. No view except of the sky above! The unit was comfortable and nicely furnished. The inn is located in a residential area a short walk from the coast. It was very quiet and peaceful. Typical Best Western breakfast buffet offerings. There is a small fitness center that unfortunately does not open until 8 am. The ice machine was out of commission, and there wasn't an ice tray in our fridge, a small annoyance. The non-Tesla charging station also wasn't working properly. Other than those maintenance issues, it was a pleasant place to stay, and so handy to have the kitchen.
The suite is the only room I will request. The 2 bedroom was horribly uncomfortable. Beds were bad, carpet filthy and extremely hot and uncomfortable with no AC in July. Suites were okay because there were more windows to open for air circulation. Bed in suite was comfortable. Was very roomy. Ask for the suite. We rented both for our family. Never again will we rent the king and queen room. Hot! Location is beautiful, other than carpets, place was clean. Parking was tight but there is street parking if you can't fit. Breakfast was good for families. In room coffee makes need to be replaced. Nasty. All that said, we would return but only if we rent the suite, preferably room 104
Great location in Pacific Grove. I traveled with 6 family members and I booked two 2-bedroom suites with a balcony. The rooms had good energy, functioning shower and toilet, mini-fridge, microwave, TVs in each room. It was quiet and calm. We all had a good night's sleep after a big celebration from my daughter's graduation at UCSC. Individual parking garages are available for free. Breakfast was the usual waffles, coffee, bagels, fruit, etc. I was a bit disappointed that they had packaged hot breakfast sandwiches instead of cooked eggs, bacon/sausage and potatoes. Overall experience was wonderful. I would come back if I was in the Monterey/Carmel area.
What can i say . This place used to be your favorite place to stay they have given up on keeping it up woke up with a backache every night no telephone service cable TV that we can work. We need to invest more money into the place and get it up to Best Western standards see photos.
This BW is located in a residential area so it was extremely quiet. It was easy to get to the beach and most natural features. There were a few restaurants within a half to one mile walk. Shopping was less than a five minutes drive. Access to highway 1 was also a five minutes scenic drive. This BW was nice in that the units were in separate houses with our spacious one bedroom up one level from the ground floor. The carpeting and upholstery needs some deep cleaning and updates. The kitchen was not essential for our stay but a definite convenience and option. The bathroom was not large but fine for a couple. There was a small living room with a separate flat screen. There were two patio areas but we did not use them due to cold. We would definitely return to this BW for future visits to the Monterey Peninsula.
We've been staying here for the last 5 years and for the most part have enjoyed our stays. While there have been always been maintenance issues that we manage to overlook, the decline in customer service has been sad. The help here no longer seems happy, there is no joy nor smiles offered by the staff here. I think there is new ownership here. During our stay we spoke to a male staff member working the night shift about a negative issue that was their responsibility, he was about as cold as you can get and was not apologetic despite their being at fault. We used to have friendly staff checking us in, thanking us for being Platinum Best Western members, wishing us a happy stay, not so our last 2 stays here. Something has changed here and not for the better. The customer service here sucks!
The property is well located. We have gone here for 25 yrs and have loved the place. Now the front desk "kid", merely a part time employee, runs the show. There is no manager and the owners aren't involved. THere are many comments made here on Trip Advisor about this individual and how he shows no compassion orinterest in taking care of the guests. I wrote a review on Trip Advisor but it never was posted.
I am unable to use stairs, the room I was given had a flight of stairs to get to it and more stairs in the room itself. The manager was incredibly rude, and unkind and said I had no choice except for a third floor room with 2 flights of stairs. No sympathy AT ALL. He reminded me as I left that I still had to pay. Also manager refused to let me leave a bag with him while I was waiting for my room to be ready when I first arrived before I knew about the room situation.
We loved this place! For less than a single room in most hotels we opted for the “family” room and it was the best! I highly recommend if you're traveling with someone who snores or has different sleeping habits as there's a door that separates the two beds, basically two rooms. The layout is also brilliant as the rooms were staggered so you have no one above or below you. The setting is so peaceful and we will definitely return!
This is not a hotel/motel. It is a converted condominium complex. It has three floors and no elevators. It is located in a residential neighborhood in the woods (deer sanctuary). The nearest Starbucks or shops is around 1.2 miles away. If you have a bad back, hips or are elderly, this is not the place for you.
This was by far the worst experience we've had staying at a hotel. We are not ones to ever write a negative review or complain about any of our stays. However the level of customer service that was given to us at this particular hotel was terrible. We arrived at this best western in Pacific Grove for a wedding on Thursday 10/5. Everything looked great, the room was spacious enough for us to be able to fit our pack & play and our 1 year old daughter was able to have enough space to walk around. It was also nice that they had a kitchen for warming up baby bottles/food. But the rooms are definitely outdated and the first night we were met with no AC and a room that was well over 85 degrees. We had a ceiling fan that was circulating hot air and opening the windows did not seem to make a difference. We called the front office and asked if they had AC to which they rudely replied no and proceeded to state it wasn't environmentally friendly and its not typically this hot and told us to just open a window. We just went about our night. However, the following day was even worse, our baby was starting to get worn down because of the heat and the room faced a direction that was right in the sun so that room was unbearably hot and unsafe to stay in with a baby! We called the front office again and asked if they had any portable ac to which again they rudely replied no. It got to the point where we couldn't stay in the room. My husband who works remote needed to spend the time in there to work but could not because of the heat and due to this, he had to take time off of work so we could get our baby out of the hotel. Frustrated, we called the front office to ask for a refund for the day and proceeded to tell them this was because we could not stay in the room until it cooled off (which according to the weather forecast was later that night). They told us there was nothing they could do and to call hotels.com who we booked through for any credits. So we called hotels.com who gladly provided us for a 1 day refund for our first night due to the issue. They offered to try and find us a different hotel, but because the weather was going to be cooler on our last two nights, we told them it was okay (what a regret). Everything seemed fine until best western calls us 8 hours later and asks if we are checking out the following day. We told them no, and this was not something we ever discussed. They proceeded to rudely say there was no way they were giving us a free night and that we needed to check out. So we called hotels.com again, who stated they never told best western that we were checking out early. It was a nightmare fight back and forth to which best western decided they wanted to make our room available on the day of the wedding and stated that they already booked it to someone else and we had to leave a day early. So basically they double booked our room and told us we needed to leave even though we reiterated that we did not want to check out and we had nowhere to go because all the rooms were booked by that time. Ultimately, we had to check out of the room and find somewhere else to go last minute on the day we had to be at the wedding. This was on Saturday 10/7, and we were due to check out Sunday 10/8. On the day we had to check out, we had to move most of our stuff into the car and I had to run to be with the bridal party as i was part of the wedding. We took off at about 930. Check out time was at 11 so we figured we were okay. My husband came back to the room at 10 to feed our baby and move the rest of our items only to find a cleaner who was in the room already cleaning up and had the rest of our belongings outside the hotel room in trash bags. This was the absolute last blow to our stay. To have someone come into your room and mess with your belongings knowing we were still there, is NOT okay. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. As stated in other reviews, they do not care about their guests. To Best Western Pacific Grove, learn to have some customer service and maybe train your people to be more courteous and support their guests.
Our room was 82 degrees throughout the stay and they do not have air conditioning. We received a refund for 1 night because of the issue but the hotel ended up kicking us out a day early because they apparently double booked the room thinking we wanted to leave early since they refunded us for 1 days (we never told them we wanted to leave early). They were supposed to help us find another hotel nearby that could take us in but they never called me back and we were forced to end our vacation a day early since we had no where to stay. Then on the last day, we went to get breakfast at 930, then when I came back to my room at 10 there were cleaners in there who took my babies milk out of the fridge, had it in a garbage bag and had moved our other stuff near the front door. Checkout was at 11 but I ended up having to leave the room at 10 since the cleaner continued cleaning even after I sat down to feed my daughter. I had a do not disturb sign on the door, there should have been no cleaner in our room until 11. Overall, horrible experience.
We often stay at Best Westerns, especially when traveling in the western US. This hotel was not up to the usual Best Western standards. While our accommodation was a huge suite, and clean, the inn is in need of some sprucing up. Everything seemed old and worn. The location is great, and the breakfast was adequate. For that area, the price was good, but I think with some renovations, it could be a great property.
Okay for a nights stay. We had a good sleep here. Beds are good. Pillows a little hard but okay. Great big rooms with balconies. It's nice and quiet at night. The only thing you here is a woodpecker in the morning. Beautiful surroundings. Breakfast is okay but not a breakfast you will remember. All in all we can recommend.
My wife and I stayed here for one night during our honeymoon to California, and wow were we impressed! When we booked (~4-6 months in advance, I can't remember exactly), there wasn't much available, and all they had was a king suite with a fireplace and kitchen. When we walked in, my jaw dropped. The suite was massive—and we paid less for this room than for some of the motels on our trip. I'm not sure if we just got lucky, but the value was incredible. The neighborhood felt extremely safe, getting there was easy, front desk had helpful suggestions for places to grab dinner, and there was indoor parking available directly underneath our room. The premises were clean, well-decorated, and the room itself was spotless, ginormous, comfortable, and well-maintained. My wife and I could have easily stayed here for our entire trip if we had known how nice it would be. I can't speak for all the other room styles they offer, but if its anything like the one we stayed in, I can't imagine you being disappointed.
A surprisingly lovely and comfortable hotel in pacific grove. The hotel is in a secluded and quiet location near the butterfly sanctuary in pacific grove. The grounds are lovely. The rooms are in a series of buildings with 3 rooms in each one. We stayed in king room where we were on the top floor, with soaring ceilings, skylights, and a small, but functional, balcony. The rooms are generally well maintained. The layout was a bit strange - a large “closet” room which has the fridge, coffee maker, and a roll-away bed - which shares the bathroom area through a pocket door from the main room. Great for a couple or perhaps with kids, but no privacy for the shower from that closet room. There are 3 free chargers for EVs. First come/first serve. Two are for Teslas and one is standard j1772. Continental Breakfast is a nice touch. Good to have coffee and snacks on-site. The hotel was full the night we were here and we never heard any neighbors at any point. Without hesitation, I would stay here again.
This hotel was across the street from Asilimar Conference Center which has has beautiful lovvy and beach area. Room was very clean. EV charger was a perk and the reason that we booked this particular hotel. Thank you! Caution: If you book thru an outside agency, i.e. EXPEDIA, you are not able to change any part of your reservation. EXPEDIA and BEST WESTERN should be in agreement that both reservations are of equal quality.
Two rooms - one with king and the other had 2 queens, which each had tvs and door between for privacy. Nice breakfast from 7-10am and in quiet neighborhood that's close to many activities in Monterey. The shower curtain was worthless - water got on floor each time. Mini fridge and microwave with counter for food was nice addition. We also enjoyed the private balcony.
Interesting property. My room was comfortable and quiet. Great location, just 2 short blocks (walking distance) from the Asilomar Conference Center grounds. The continental breakfast was very nice and had a lot of variety.
Really nice hotel. The room was comfortable and large. Bed was very comfortable. The breakfast menu was good but no hot meals. Great selection on tv as it had Directv. Parking included under cover which was nice.
Older condo hotel that could be very good, but mgmt refuses to fix issues or update broken items. Doors that don't close and are broken, thermostats that constantly turn off, near non-existent TV service. Really sad Best Western has their name on this hotel. A real money grab for the owner, shouldn't be under Best Western flag. Employees are underequipped to handle issues and mgmt too afraid to call guests back when needed.
Daisy (front desk) gave us an excellent service. Our room is very clean and relaxing. The bed is very comfortable and we had a quality sleep. We will definitely come back and highly recommend to our friends and family.
Found great stay at a tucked away Best Western in Pacific Grove. Short walk to Asilomar Beach and proximity to Monterey and Carmel. Unit was quiet, bed was comfortable, and suite had a fireplace which made unit more comfortable. A big plus is some of the garage parking spaces have EV charging set up which was a big convenience for us.
The King suite was large with a full size kitchen and a huge balcony. However the kitchen was not fully stocked with utensils and dishes. With the full kitchen I expected it to be stocked like at a timeshare or Airbnb. The other downside was walking into an old dusty smell and sticky carpet. After going to dinner, we stopped at the local market for a scented candle and air freshener spray.
This is our go to place in the Carmel, Monterey, Pacific Grove area. The hotel is located at a very quiet area, right by Asilomar State Beach. Even though we cannot see the ocean, we usually open the window (slightly) to listen to the waves. We usually start the days walking at the beach boardwalk and visit Carmel, Monterey, Laguna Seca, etc. It is our perfect weekend getaway and the EV charging stations in the garages are very convenient too!
Interesting property. It was clearly at one time a condominium or apartment complex transformed into a hotel. Definitely create an interesting stay. Our room was large and it seems like all rooms have a balcony. I could hear the ocean from our room. (Kind of like the ocean from a distance so the waves are more steady white noise than crashing as the noise blends together). Anyway, our room was clean and unique. We have large cathedral ceilings and an odd, bathroom set up. Nothing wrong with it, it really was overall a unique set up! I really enjoyed that aspect. The shower I loved. It was a very very large shower. I felt like a kind because it was so large. I am not sure, but I suspect the rooms are not at all uniform because of the property layout. The staff were fine. I didn't really have much interaction with them. The few moments I had were fine. The breakfast is a standard hotel breakfast carbohydrate oriented breakfast that nobody will ever say ‘Wow delicious” to. Would I stay at this property again? Yeah, I guess I would. Would I recommend it? Depends. It is in a residential neighborhood, kind of close to the ocean. Kind of depends what you are looking for. it isn't a far drive from places and is kind of out of the way.
A lot of room for the money, but this is not a "make it special for you" kind of place. The guy at the front desk is useless. They don't make a big point of it but the "1 king + 1 queen room" is two separate rooms with a bed in each. A great arrangement.
Perfect location along running trail close to asilomar beach, comfortable room with microwave and fridge, and Tesla chargers! Clean room, friendly staff. Looked like basic breakfast. Tired furnishings but super clean.
Quiet, close to the beach, the environment is nice. Saw deers outside the hotel. The room we stayed was nice and the space was big like one bedroom apartment with full kitchen(king suites with patio). Will definitely come back.
Clean, basic, unusual setting and room layouts, great quiet location. Slightly worn, but still acceptable. If you have mobility issues, check that your room isn't on a second or third floor. There are many stairs even to closest rooms and no elevators.
Was looking forward to my stay here as the location was close to many sites we were planning on visiting (Monterey Aquarium, 17 Mile Dr, Asilomar Beach) and the pictures looked nice. No where on the site does it state that you may have to navigate 3 sets of stairs if you are on the top floor, as these units look like condos that may have been converted to a hotel. We did not ask for an "accessible" room as neither my husband or I are handicapped. I imagine that those may have a ground floor access or ramp. Since we were on a 2 1/2 week vacation visiting the Pacific Northwest area, our luggage was rather large and it was no easy feat schlepping our suitcases up all the stairs. I wish we were told about the steps. Also, the room that we had, had a SMALL stall size room that the toilet was in. I have been in public restrooms that were larger than this. I am not a large person (5'5" 130 lbs) but I had to squeeze between the toilet and door to fit in this tiny room. My husband (again NOT a large person 170 lbs) was having a hard time navigating this also. The pictures on the website do not show the type of bathroom we had. In fact they show a large glass walk in shower with a toilet (not in a separate room). The pictures must show the best rooms which we certainly did not have.
We traveled as a family of 4 adults and we found this one of the most peaceful places we stayed. We found the staff helpful and courteous. We liked the fact that this is a smaller establishment. We liked the feel of the way the apartments are set out. Breakfast wasn't the best for the vegetarians in our group, but the others said their breakfast was fine and got them through the morning. The only thing I would say is the rooms are a little dark inside, but we found our room to be clean, quiet and comfortable. I will definitely book again.
The hotel is located close to the Asilomar beach, and few years ago it was nice hotel. But now the hotel needs updates, it overpriced and outdated with luck of maintenance, and the customer service needs training how to treat customers with equality and respect.
Worst king size mattress in Room 127 that caused severe back pain for 3 different people who tried sleeping on it. No healthy breakfast options except for apples and bananas. The staff who worked there were always as helpful and friendly as can be , they were exceptional!
Check in was a little slow as we were told to leave and come back due to our card being locked, which wasn't the case. The front desk employee was a little lost on how to get us checked in which alarmed us because we thought we would not have a room. Next day issues were resolved so yay! Sheets are always super soft with no previous stains missed by the average eye. Great location. Always parking available in the garages which gives a sense of security. No theft, homeless, sketchy characters, all-night partiers, or negative vibes. Seems that a lot of elderly and small families use the hotel because it is not close to a lot of establishments but it is a 5 min walk to the ocean! I have stayed here more than once, so this review is assurance that it is clean EVERY time. Prices are very reasonable especially if you are a rewards member or sign up to be one.
great location, friendly staff, rooms very functional. smaller motel. 3 rooms per building, maybe 10 total buildings. In a neighborhood. Walking distance to ocean and enjoyable neighborhood to walk in. very quiet.
It's old. Run down. No air conditioning. Just not a great place. I was not expecting anything espectacular but the room was not in great shape at all. Patch work everywhere. Old furniture and doors. Just didn't like it at all.
Very nice place to stay. Walking distance to Asilomar Beach. Driving distance or long walking distance to downtown. The hotel was very clean, and the employees were the best. Very friendly and helpful. They have a free breakfast which was good (cereal, yogurt, fruit, waffle iron) The coffee needs some help though !
The location is great, near Asilomar beach, wonderful restaurant a short walk from hotel (Fishwife). Just be prepared, this is your grandmother's old condo. Room is Ok, staircases are narrow, rooms are dated. Don't think the cost was worth it for us.
Room was not the same as those pictured on hotel website. The room was old, shabby, had paint peeling off the furniture. Dirty sliding glass door which was smeared with who knows what. Threadbare carpet as were the sad little towels. No maid service. Had to ask for toilet paper, tissues, clean towels etc.
We were booked in the double room, King Bed Accessible. We have attached pictures and you can judge for yourself. We made the staff member on reception aware of our views that in our opinion that the room was not fit for letting in that condition. They could not offer an alternative room as fully booked and said they could arrange a refund if we wanted to look elsewhere. Easier said than done when you are visiting from abroad, have booked through a tour operator and don't want to start trawling around at night to find alternative accommodation and have an early start in the morning. We put up with it for the 3 nights. Pictures attached show:- safe not attached to anything so is easily lifted out (totally useless, the staff on the desk said that it was ok as that room had never been broken into), stained dirty carpets (wear your shoes), cracked shower tray (bathroom also flooded after a shower so try building a dam with spare towels), sink coming off from behind wall, stained dirty chairs (avoid using), we found a piece of wood from the garden to jam the window shut as it didn't lock ( we left that in place for the next guest), rock jammed between the fridge and the broken shelf above to support the microwave, light broken in the fridge, burst rubber guard on edge of bed which kept falling off (take care not to cut your leg as I did). We appreciate it was a 2 star hotel and didn't expect the Ritz, but we did expect it to be clean and functional. The complimentary breakfast was poor and breakfast room very small. Better to bring your own breakfast and have it on the patio. The best bit was having our own parking bay. We asked for our concerns to be reported to the manager and the same member of staff on duty when we arrived said that they had done so and that hopefully they would do something about the room. We are putting a complaint though our tour operator also.
Hotel room was spotless, well appointed, great Wolfgang Puck coffee, excellent breakfast with a great variety of items to choise from and friendly staff member to assist guests. Totally enjoyed this property would definitely stay here again.
A nice hotel nestled in a quiet residential location . Apparently a converted condo. If you like peaceful location this works.you just can't walk to a restaurant or anything else. There is no elevator also. I can deal with driving to dinner. Elevator another story. There was a charging station fo our EV. But all in all a very nice little hotel.
Wonderful stay in king suite, rooms were clean, staff was friendly, and continental breakfast provided. The location is wonderful, we visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium, it was an easy 8 min. Trip and had no traffic issues.
Beautiful area, huge room with full kitchen, TV sitting area, fireplace and patio with seating for morning coffee. Short walk to the ocean. Lovely stay, wish we could have stayed longer. Breakfast available daily.
I recommend this hotel for anyone! My husband and I went for our anniversary trip and were more than satisfied with our stay! The hotel is extremely clean, organized and well maintained! We had a kitchen available with utensils etc.
This is one of the best hotels we have stayed in on the Monterey Peninsula. Our “room” was extremely quiet (unlike many small motels in the area), spotless and very spacious. It was actually two rooms, each complete with a bed & TV - the second room also had a kitchenette and a bathroom. White linens, a balcony, high ceilings and a fan made for great ventilation. We were about a 10 minute walk to the beach and 20 minute walk to downtown. Breakfast was bleak, but it is at most of the PG hotels. We went out. I would gladly return here again.
We were pleasantly surprised with the size and comfort of our suite. I was able to sleep in a separate room with a fireplace while husband stayed up late to watch TV. Room was clean, very spacious. Nice patio and great breakfast options. Hot waffle was nice. A short walk to beach. We had room 104, which is downstairs. We loved it and will be back. Rates were very reasonable.
Nice room. For the most part very quiet. Walls are quite thin but fortunately everyone asleep by 930. Rooms are large and plenty of space to spread out. Great location with Asilomar beach nearby. would stay here again.
The rooms were clean! Super clean. The room itself was like a little condo unit with a balcony which I loved. It was spacious with a big closet area so you could put your luggage in there. Everything worked well, I really just enjoyed the place. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were great, not your typical hotel bedding.
Hotel proudly boosts the are in the upper 5 percent of all Best Westerns and a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Metals without merit. Manager is absent for most part of the week as he handles other properties. Clerk just texts him, then texts the owner in Texas. Refused breakfast and called police when I insisted on meeting the manager. Jean Macnurdo president of the Chamber of Commerce is trying to help. Help she is not getting from the hotel.
Incredibly friendly staff! They were honestly concerned with our comfort. Very clean, great bed and the gas fireplace was a nice touch. The office was well stocked with drink and food for consumption at any time. The grounds were clean and tidy, well lit and had beautiful plants. It is obvious that the property receives constant attention. The quiet location was perfect. We would definitely stay there again!!
Skip this placre, really. Super funky, mildew-smelling, tired “motel” not up to BW standards. Felt like a mom and pop place from 1970. Definitely not worth $20/night and we paid $200. Next time we will stay at Asilomar.
this is an apartment complex turned hotel. no maid service due to COVID. seems like an excuse to save money. While I have stayed in several hotels this year, this is the only one where the room was not serviced daily.
We booked our reservation months in advance, and when we called to confirm two weeks prior to going, it had been canceled. The front desk seemed unapologetic and said we needed to call the 800 number for Best Western Reservations. Thank goodness they fixed the problem and rebooked us for the same room and rate as we originally did. The reason for the cancellation? Someone in the hotel office mixed up our Best Western Rewards number with someone else's who had the same last name. Very frustrating! We booked the King patio suite with kitchen, which is very hard to find for the area and within our budget. The place is in a great location, they are converted condos in a very quiet residential neighborhood within walking distance to Asilomar beach. The outside of the property is lovely with a little pond and very well kept. The rooms however, leave much to be desired. 1. The thermostat for the heater was very confusing, so it was difficult to set the room temperature. There should definitely be a more user friendly thermostat and/or directions on how to operate it posted on the wall next to it. 2. The kitchen was barely functional. No oven, and a very tiny microwave that you couldn't even fit a whole dinner plate in. No dish strainer, no dish towels, a dirty used sponge under the sink that smelled up the cabinet really bad, no toaster to toast bread or bagels, and a super small trash can. Lots of counter and cupboard space with nothing in them. Very frustrating. 3. The bed was terrible and needs replacing...BADLY! It sinks in the middle and is very noisy. Every time you move it sounds like a creaking wooden ship. The bed condition really is the most important item at any lodging. Gotta get a good night's rest. 4. The sliding patio doors were extremely hard to open and close. 5. A little wet bar which seemed unnecessary, and had no corkscrew or bottle opener. 6. The only closet, because they converted the one near the bed to a wet bar, is near the kitchen. No hangers, so no way to hang up your clothes and jackets. 7. The patio furniture had filthy cushions on them, so we were unable to enjoy sitting outside. 8. The couch was very hard, dirty and uncomfortable to sit on and enjoy watching a movie. 9. The carpet had stains, and clearly hasn't been cleaned in awhile. 10. The drapes in the room needed cleaning and the one in the kitchen was falling apart. 11. The dining room chairs were stained and in need of cleaning. 10. Shower wasn't clean, and had mold growing in the corners. 12. The toilet didn't flush right, and continually ran. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic I can see that there might be issues that wouldn't have been, if things were different. But here's the thing, it is an issue when things are neglected. When you are faced with challenges you either meet them or ignore them, and in this case, the lack of care and maintenance shows.
This is an out of the way hotel that's nestled in a nice, quiet neighborhood and is a 10 minute walk from Asilomar beach. Walking around the neighborhood you may well see several deer ( we encountered deer many times on our walks). If you're looking forward to being close to the Aquarium, restaurants, etc., you may want to look elsewhere. If you're looking for a quiet, comfortable getaway, though, this is the place. We encountered a couple of small problems during our stay -- the fireplace and a remote for one of the TVs wasn't working. They were not deal breakers. If I were to rate this place on just the location as a quiet getaway it would be easily 5 stars, but because the accommodations are basic, like most BWs, I have to give it 3. But, like I said, if you want quiet, clean, comfortable lodging that's affordable in this otherwise pricey area, this place fits the bill.
Somewhat of a unique property being that it used to be condos. I would give it 2.5 stars overall. Just "OK". Not as good as I was expecting after reading reviews. Read on for the pros and cons... PROS: *Relatively reasonable price for the area. *Set in a quiet residential neighborhood, although we had noisy neighbors our first night in the next room. *Spacious rooms, but odd layout due to the fact they used to be condos. *Complimentary limited buffet breakfast consisting of items like oatmeal, bananas, yogurt, apples, juice, coffee, tea, muffins, cereal. We ate it in our room as there's nowhere else to eat during Covid at least. *Bedside lamps with plugs in them for charging. Safe, iron, microwave in room. *Limited parking -- we had to park on the street most nights after we came back from dinner, but we could always find parking. Some of the parking is in a carport under the building if you can get it. (A little tight). *Convenient to the surrounding area sights like 17 mile drive, Pacific Grove, Monterey, Carmel, Los Lobos. CONS: *May have to climb stairs to your room *Customer service was average at the front desk -- not bubbly and friendly at all. The front desk person was also serving as the breakfast refresher -- at one point I had to ask if there were more bananas and they were replenished (without a smile). *No maid service during our stay -- we had to ask for fresh sets of towels as the towels wouldn't dry well. In the foyer of our building, there was a large bag of trash where you could empty your trash (which mounted up as you'd put your breakfast items in it). Not sure if no maid service is a Covid thing, but getting your bed made, your trash taken out and dry towels would have been nice. *VERY noisy fan in the toilet. (Separate to the rest of the bathroom) *Odd room configuration due to the fact they used to be condos. *Not enough hooks in the bathroom. *Somewhat dated and tired. *Due to a booking snafu on our part, unfortunately we had to change rooms on our last night. (I was hoping the staff could arrange it so we didn't have to do this, but unfortunately they couldn't). That room was worse -- the master bed was so noisy and creaky that we slept in the non-master room. The toilet was dicky and the water in the shower burned me. I've never had that happen in a hotel.
We have stayed at the Best Western The Inn & Suites Pacific Grove many times over the past eight years. We stayed there this week (11/24 - 11/26) for two nights including Thanksgiving, and the quality of the hotel was horrible (fireplaces in most of the suites were not working, we found holes in the ceiling of the kitchen, there were very dirty/worn carpets, and the front desk staff was rude and not customer-focused). There are much better hotels in Monterey and Carmel than this one!!!!
Customer service at this hotel was atrocious. Front desk was not helpful at all. They charged almost double what the going rate of the room was and have a policy not to work with you on price after you make a reservation. The heater sounded like a jet taking off in the middle of the night. One of the TVs in the room didn't work so I tried to use the hotel phone to call the front desk it didn't work either. I had to walk down to the front desk for them to come in and jiggle the wires behind the TV so that would work but then we could no longer turn the TV so that we could see it from the bed. I've stayed at quite a few hotels and it really seemed like the owner/manager don't care about their guests.
No one at front desk and no way to notify anyone I was there. Light in refrigerator out. Enough kitchen gear to fix meals unless you need to cut something (no knives). Fireplace didn't work. Phone didn't work. Corroded showerhead-no spray, just dribble. No milk for cereal just large cartons of almond milk. I won't stay here again.
We stumbled on this gem in Pacific Grove, and plan to return the next time we are in the area. The bed was comfortable, and the shower was large. The breakfast was basic, but we did not expect much given the times of COVID. My husband and I came to see the Monarch butterflies in late October, and were not disappointed. Remember binoculars. We also went to the beach and Pt. Lobos during low tide. We recommend the Red House for breakfast, and Passion Fish for dinner. The rooms here were clean and pleasant. The staff was helpful.
Our third night (of a three-night stay) was beyond miserable due to an annoying, high-pitched tone, cycling on and off every minute or so for most of the night. We had our worst sleep in months. We downloaded a white noise app and turned on a loud bathroom fan to try to mask the noise but neither could block it out. The source of this annoying tone was a malfunctioning juice machine in the breakfast room, right below our bed. It did not make the noise the first two nights of our stay, which were perfectly fine. The staff's response was as bad as the noise. When I first reported the problem to the front desk, the night clerk said that it was probably coming from the breakfast room but was completely uninterested in investigating. When I insisted that we look around the breakfast room and later asked him to turn off the malfunctioning machine as it was was interfering with our sleep, he refused, saying that turning it off would spoil the juice, I pointed out that he would rather ruin our sleep than his juice. The clerk said that he would call his manager but never got back to us and didn't take any action. The following morning the day clerk acknowledged the problem but said that I would need to write an email to request any compensation. I wrote the email, sent a gentle reminder and followed that up with a phone call. Despite twice being promised that the manager would get back to us, four weeks later nothing but radio silence. This problem was completely within the control of the hotel staff to fix but they couldn't care less. They didn't offer a different room, compensation, or even a simple apology.
The location is wonderful in a quiet residential neighborhood blocks from the beach. We brought our bikes and rode along the coast. Separate bedrooms within the 2 bed suite. Bag your own breakfast in the mornings with lots of little attractive cafe tables and chairs for dining outside. Pleasant helpful service workers. Furniture in the rooms could be updated.
Clean, QUIET, refreshing, thougthful & relaxing!!! Our nights stay was in a king sized room w/ balcony!. A breakfast to-go was available in the morning with cereal, muffins, danish, fruit, drinks all ready for you to choose & bag up to go! We will be back!
This was probably the strangest hotel I've ever stayed in - it definitely is more like an inn than a hotel (hence the name I guess). It had all of these separate buildings with a few rooms in each, each room on a separate "quarter floor" meaning they weren't on the same level but not directly above one another, just a short flight of stairs separating each. The only bad thing about this setup is that as we were on the "top floor" we had to lug our very heavy bags up numerous flights of stairs (no elevators). Definitely not a good hotel for people that need an elevator. The room was a good size, though, which was nice. No air conditioning but luckily it was a nice night so we left the sliding door open until we went to bed and used the fan for the rest of the night and that was cool enough. There was a vending machine outside but it didn't take dollar bills so we called down to the front desk to ask if they had change and they told us to come to them and they'd give us free water - they ended up giving us 4 free bottles which was very nice. While there was a sign in the bathroom mentioning water conservation due to the terrible drought the shower was literally like a fire hose as far as water pressure. So much wasted water. Toilet was in a separate little room from the rest of the bathroom which was interesting. There was also a large walk-in closet which housed the closet and the kitchenette as well as a cot if we had needed it. We ordered in food to be delivered which was nice to get the food right to our hotel door. Very close to all of the main tourist attractions in Monterey (the aquarium, 17-mile drive, etc.) It actually is in the middle of a neighborhood so it was very quiet, which I appreciated. While this was a strange little hotel I would definitely stay there again.
Nice large rooms, friendly staff, well equipped rooms. Modern building. Very quiet location Electric chargers for EV Convenient location close to beautiful Asilomar beach, and to many Pacific grove restaurants.
Never thought that a two stars hotel could be so comfortable and warmful. The only regret was that the king size mattress was too soft in the king size family suit, however the last night we moved to king suit, the bed was good.
The stay was extra comfortable and the room was very clean. Amenities were great considering COVID restrictions. The grab and go breakfast was presented well and drinks and utensils paper plates and bowls were all available. If staying in Pacific Grove or near Monterey, this quiet place will definitely keep you recharged - plus it was only a minute drive to the beach.
We have stayed here twice, once on the top floor in King sized room, and once in the King Suite. I would recommend the suite, it was spacious and felt like a apartment, it had a large bedroom with fireplace, a living room, kitchen with a dining area, and a large patio. It is a in a quiet neighborhood and was very peaceful. A short walk from Asilomar beach, and we saw deer every morning.
I needed 2 rooms for my family and I found it at Best Western The Inn in Pacific Grove. This Inn was set in a quiet beautiful setting and not too far from the ocean. The lobby was clean and the staff provided kind and professional service. Our room was very clean and spacious. Room was divided into two large rooms with king bed in one room and queen in the other room, and each room had flat screen tv's. Good size bathroom including soaps, shampoo etc..(refrig and microwave included) Beds were comfortable and the night was quiet for a safe good night sleep. Great Best Western place, I'll be back.
The location is nice and walking distance to Asilomar State Beach. Our room was spacious but needed a lot of maintenance. For instance the gas fire place did not work. (This was one feature we were looking forward to). The shower drain was slow. The TV remote controller did not work for one of the TVs. Exposed wiring was present in the kitchen ceiling. The phone did not work due to a broken cable. The staff was unable to provide any repairs.
Was ready and eagerly awaiting our stay at this hotel. When I arrived I was greeted with a rude and awkwardly individual by the name of Michael. Being a BW platinum member I am familiar with staying at a variety of hotels and am always greeted by friendly helpful front desk folks. Tried to check in early and was denied rudely, then asked if I could just register instead and come back closer to check in. I was told no, come back at 3pm and no earlier. I asked Michael if my wife could use the restroom because of the long drive we just had. His response was "we don't have a restroom in the lobby." WTH??? How does he use the restroom then? He told my wife to use the restroom elsewhere after we asked him like three times. Totally unacceptable! We called the hotel about an hour before check-in asking about information related to the rooms kitchen, Michael could not even let us know the right information about the room. We asked if they had an oven he said he wasn't sure, then said no, then not sure again. We asked about pots and pans he said no they were removed due to Covid...WTH? We finally just gave up asking questions and got to the room, there was no oven but there were pots and pans...So much for the plans to make a nice dinner that night because we thought there were no pots and pans. Michael ruined the whole experience for my wife and I. Although we did really like the room and if we ever returned I would be sure to ask for a manager next time.
This is an ideal location, walking distance to beach front. Welcoming staff and top notch accommodations! Especially nice to have covered parking and quick breakfast each day. Family character makes this a comfortable place for small or large groups.
Great place to stay in Pacific Grove! I am a bridal hairdresser who travels all around Northern California. This hotel always accommodates my needs with quiet rooms a wonderful location. Everything is always clean and a good breakfast in the morning. This hotel tends to attract a more mature crowd and is not a party hotel which is important as I am often up at four in the morning to prepare for weddings around Carmel Valley. Comfortable beds nice balconies and peaceful surroundings.
This property looks like a condo development re-purposed as a motel. I suspect it is exactly that. It's clean, well run though just a tad rustic, and situated in a quiet residential neighborhood near Asilomar State Park and Beach.
This location was beautiful, quiet and clean. The location is in a residential neighborhood and may seem out of the way, but it is a very short drive to any place you want to go on the Monterey Peninsula. Pacific Grove is a charming town along a beautiful stretch of coastline, with great shops and restaurants.
We've returned to the Best Western in Pacific Grove several times and we'll return again in the future. The rooms are very comfortable, clean, and safe during the pandemic, and the location is great, just a short walk to Asilomar beach.
We stay at the Best Western in Pacific Grove due to golf tournaments in the area. Best Western has always treated us well, however they are going through a change of staff as far as management. The staff is always friendly and helpful and Best Western never gouges you when a big event is in town. They are one of the only hotels we will stay in because of their convenience, cleanliness, service and price.
The hotel is Comfortable and quiet. This is the place I stay 2-3 times a month. But it is time to update the carpet and paint for a fresher look. Drew at the front office is very friendly. Prices are reasonable.
Pacific Grove is a nice quiet location. Glad we took the advice of friends suggesting we not stay in the main downtown area. The room was clean, on the large side and the bed was comfortable. We were pleased that breakfast was still offered and noted the cleanliness of that area, along with all the food, drinks etc, that were offered.
The Beat Service and friendly establishment I have ever been too. Each individual employee was amazing and I'm so appreciative of them. This is a must stay at hotel! They made my stay very enjoyable and I've already planned a vacation with my family to come to Pacific Grove partially due to my stay her.
Very convenient location - about 10 minutes walk to the beach. We booked a suite with a kitchen. Everything we needed was included. The room was super clean which very important to us. The winter rates are very affordable and a good value.
Broken beds and heaters not working in most expensive rooms. Not offered no comp or discount had to unpack and pack 3 times in a overnight stay. I'm also an essential worker that frequently visits due to work. Only good thing here is location
Loved this location! The location is just a few blocks away from the beach, and it is tucked away in a very quiet neighborhood. Spanish moss hanging from the branches outside the windows gently swayed leaving us feel so relaxed. The woman at the front desk was so sweet and made us feel welcomed. Our room was a king suite with a kitchen. It was very spacious, and the patio/deck was huge. We cooked our own meals and ate on the patio. It couldn't have been more perfect.
Stayed in the kitchen suite, room 101, for 3 nights. These are obviously former condos (I'm guessing 1970s-80s era) that have been broken up into hotel rooms, so you can hear noise from the rooms above. Great location; nice short walk through Asilomar to the beach. Comfortable king bed. Gas flame fireplace is a cozy touch. Robust heating. Big sliding doors to the deck (which we didn't use because it was too cold/shady) under oak trees. Average bathroom. The kitchen itself is a good size with many empty cabinets. This is among the most poorly equipped of rental/hotel kitchens I have encountered: besides tableware, there is only a set of totally trashed nonstick cookware, a cutting board, & some cooking spoons. No kitchen knives whatsoever, no mixing/prep bowls, no spatula, no dishrack. We asked for a salad bowl & knife & were given a cheap serrated fruit knife. Basically do not expect to do any actual cooking in this kitchen. It works fine for microwaving takeout food. They do provide dish soap & sponges. Despite my complaints about the kitchen I would come back here due to the excellent location. Since I drive to get here it's not hard to bring some kitchen equipment with me. I liked their covid protocols: masks required, Plexiglas partition at the front desk, windows & doors open to air out the room when we arrived.
We stayed at the hotel for a few nights in October and enjoyed it. The hotel resembled a suburban apartment complex. It even had garages, albeit without doors. We booked a studio with a kitchen. It was a big apartment with several areas on different levels, although no walls between them. There was a large patio as well. The apartment was clean, but the decor looked a bit old-fashioned. The kitchen had bare necessities, but was missing quite a few utensils and cooking tools. Most AirBnBs are better equipped. Because of COVID, breakfast was not served. Instead they offered a "snack package", which was really underwhelming. Location was in a quiet residential neighborhood right next to Asilomar conference center. We could drive to downtown Pacific Grove in ~5 minutes and to Carmel in ~15 minutes. There was a Trader Joe's close by. We enjoyed our stay and would consider them again in the future.
This was our first trip since COVID. Coming from Sacramento and Jjust wanted to get away for a few days. We booked a suite so that we would have access to a kitchen (microwave, fridge). Room looked just like the pics shown in their website. Separate living room/bedroom. The location is "off the beaten path" (nice & quiet) but just a few minutes drive from major grocery stores. And all the sights are nearby also.
The property has a strange layout for a motel. Several buildings seem to contain one room each at three levels; at least ours did. Nice for privacy as no one walks past your windows. But it just seems odd and must be a nightmare for the housekeeping staff. Given that this trip occurred during Covid times, it's hard to criticize things like housekeeping and breakfast offerings. The motel resides nicely in a neighborhood, so little traffic will bother you. Our room had a heater preprogrammed to blast Sahara Desert winds. We awoke as if we had taken our vacation in Death Valley in July. I learned to coexist by setting the temperature to hold at a comfortable 71 degrees in the evenings, then turning off the heater altogether until the next morning when I could once again set a comfortable "hold" temperature. We did get to recharge our electric car, which was handy, but not essential. Overall, the place is adequate but a bit dated. OK value, but nothing special.
The Inn was clean and the grounds were well maintained. The rooms were very spacious. We enjoyed the balcony for an evening drink and our morning coffee. During our covid-19 stay, the room seemed to be very clean and disinfected.
The location is great, and the rooms are spacious. I have enjoyed pervious stays at this property. However, in our most recent stay, cleanliness is a huge concern! Both beds in our room had DIRTY sheets upon arrival (Hair, leaves, crumbs- clearly not changed.) They did move us rooms, but that room had garbage left from a pervious guest. We had to go purchase Clorox wipes and cleaning products to clean the room because we were not convinced it had been thoroughly cleaned. In this time of COVID, I'd expect cleaning to be top-notch. I am not picky, but I expect a clean room and clean sheets. I am hopeful that they fix this and that it isn't a regular occurrence. The customer service was great, but cleanliness is a high priority for me.
Need a getaway given the covid-19 travel constraint; Safety is our number concern; Then you usual location, amenities, cost, etc... Best Western Pacific Grove has delivered The entire hotel is ultra clean, especially the spacious room. It is a couple blocks to the beach; We had a really nice quiet stay.
We love staying here and returned for three days over Labor Day Week-end. Its close to Asilomar State Park and Beach. The staff is awesome. They do a good job. Check-in, out, housekeeping, maintenance and area are nice. We like the layout of the rooms; we get the suites. There is a private outside area (large), kitchen, living room/TV watching area, and comfortable king size bed. There is a fireplace there as well. We thoroughly like the room. There is a hidden feature in the room in the larger nook area above the curtains. In July we had a bicycle, this time a statue of a golfer. Its a kinky but fun thing. Parking is free and there is both garage and outside parking If get back too late, there is good parking on the street. Breakfast due to the virus was grab breakfast bag style. It was ok Prior to the virus, breakfast here was a highlight. Its nice they are still able to provide some nurishing food at this time. That's nice. While some may like the more luxurious water front lodging in the area, we have visited many times and find this now 'our home away from home.: its easy to get to all area of the Monterey/Carmel Area.
We typically stay at Best Westerns since I'm a rewards member. I had to book my two nights separately since I used points for one night and paid for the other. Check in was odd since the clerk didn't check me in for both nights even though it was for the same room. I had to come back the next day to check in again, sign paperwork and get new keys. Not a big deal- but just odd. Anyway, we had a standard king room and it was a good size. The shower was spacious. The only thing is, the room had a bad smell because of the cleaning products they use. We just kept our sliding door open to air out the smell. The location was nice- easy walk to Asilomar Beach. I'd probably stay here again if I got a good rate.
The location of the hotel is great, away from traffic and city noise, walking distance to Asilomar Beach, and only minutes away from Trader Joes and the 17 mile drive. The rooms are a bit old and dark. An upgrade of the furniture and carpets is greatly needed. Overall it is acceptable, especially if a discounted rate is available.
If you want a place to rest and enjoyed the service and friendly staffs and roomy With the kitchen, fireplace, extra sitting room and a private deck ! Did I mentioned quite, we enjoyed our time here and not hesitate to come back on our next visit
During this ongoing crisis we had to leave our space because we shared resources with a 72 year old ALS elderly person who had had renal cell carcinoma. . We left to not infect him as we had to go grocery shopping and did not want to take any chances of getting him ill. We checked into this Best Western for 27 nights and were told we could extend through the end of May at the same rate. They discounted it because there were no people coming due to shelter in place. On April 23, 2020 we found a bogus note on our door saying we had 24 hours to vacate because only essential workers could be at this property. It was a lie. We contacted the Health Department who told us we had every right to be there as they did not want us putting this elderly man at risk. They put notes on everyone's door and kicked out an elderly guy who had bought 1 months worth of food and a couple with a 2 month old baby who were trying to protect it. What I found out from the workers and Nick the manager is that the guy who checked us in had gotten sick and they quarantined him at the property. It took many conversations to find out what was happening. With only 3 days before our first reservation ran out, we then found out they wanted to raise the rates beyond the 10% they were allowed to do because of COVID 19. The front desk woman wea condecending. The assistant manager sent me a text saying he was going to contact me and never did. The workers were afraid of getting COVID 19 and told me they had no idea what was going on. It caused us an extreme amount of anxiety as I am in a high risk group ie I am 64 going on 65. We had to pack our stuff and find another place to stay. Exposing ourselves again to another location. Not. once did they apologize. We had to leave even though the assitant manager had already told us we were good to go and could extend for the same rate without changes. All the owner wanted was more money. They raised the daily rate to 109.00 with the front desk lady saying 'maybe you need to find a lesser property' meaning a cheaper one. It was the worst place to sleep. They have the worst insullation ever. You could hear everything from someone going to the bathroom to what people were saying to each otherr. When the people walked above us it was like an elephant was in our room. The wals were that thin. It was the worst experience ever. It shows not everyone cares about the welfare of others.
Leaks from a Toilet in Room above me took nearly a week to fix but somehow that was not the worst of my stay. The worst part was being Lied to by the management of Best Western when I went in after a week there and gave them my new Best Western Credit Card to replace the Holiday Inn card I'd checked in using. At that Point I repeated that I wanted to Stay for as long as possible as this was during the COVID19 mess, and they told me that the max was 27 days and I'd have to check out for a couple days and could then come back. We then discussed the Rate and I was told that the would do it for the same rate that I had. I told him to go run my card as I was ready to rack up the Required amount to collect my Signup Bonus. There was no Paper work signed due to this COVID19. About a week later I come back to a note on the door saying I had to vacate unless I do not live in the area AND I am considered an essential worker, I met both of those requirements so the GM, Brandon, told me not to worry about it. I told him also I could furnish a letter if that would help his Documenting my eligibility and and he said he'd appreciate it if I'd get him a copy. NOTHING was mentioned about any rate change or having to leave in a few days as we had already reached an agreement several days earlier. Then not even two days later I'm getting a call from the Weekend Clerk that I had to leave. I told her I had an agreement with the GM to stay and that I had $400 worth of Groceries I'd bought in the room and I couldn't go anywhere. SHe then proceeds to tell me that the Owner of the Hotel had decided he wanted to raise the Rate to Non COVID times and NEARLY TRIPLE what I had booked and what was agreed to extend for the entire 27 days just days before with the Hotel's GM I told them I had no intention of leaving or Paying the Highway Robbery Rate that then now wanted to charge. They then threaten to call the Police and I told them to go ahead. An hour or so later the Police had to come tying up them from doing important work and dealing with a Hotel Who doesn't want to honor their agreement to an Essential Worker during a worldwide crisis. OH and the Sewage Leak . . . One evening I notice I had water all over my computers and a monitor I'd setup on the Kitchen Table. I immediately notified them and was told they'd have it looked at the next day. It would only leak periodically so I knew it had to be when someone used water, not a supply line. This went on for nearly a week with me offering to help their maintenance guy find it and have them not book the room above me where it was coming from. I return home one day to find the Maintenance guy and a Cleaning lady cleaning up. I asked him what he found, he didn't speak English so I asked in Spanish and he told me that it was from when they would flush the toilet above that a drain pipe was leaking. But he didn't think that the actual "Poop was escaping because it was a very thin hole so it effectively filtered it and just let out the Grey sewage water. Evidently this is OK where he was from. Oh yeah and numerous Electrical Outlets don't work, or don't now, come to think of it they are near where this leak was so maybe they have been affected.
The housekeeping here is deplorable. They ask you to leave a card for the time you want your room done, but they never show up at that time. Sometimes they don't show up at all. Gym and breakfast weren't available because of Covid. Rooms are ok, very somber. There are so many hotels in the area, it would be better to go elsewhere.
The good: We booked the king suite. It was nice and big, and quiet. Bed was comfortable. Agnes at the front desk was excellent and very kind and helpful. The bad: Fireplace didn't work and didn't get fixed Breakfast was an apple and a plastic-wrapped pastry -- they promised us eggs and bacon and all kinds of things Room service didn't clean the room Fire alarm ran out of battery and beeped all night(also didn't get fixed) No glasses in the room But the absolute worst problem was the front desk person named "Branden", a tall, bald-headed African-American with pearl earrings that were crookedly stuck into his ears. It's one thing to not be able to help with a request. It's another thing entirely to be passive-aggressive about it and to behave as if you're annoyed to even have customers talking to you at the front desk at all. He was highly disrespectful to my girlfriend and when I called him out on it, he coughed on me -- during the coronavirus crisis! He is a disgusting human being with zero empathy and he does not belong in customer service. I will do what I can to make sure he gets replaced. Other Tripadvisor reviews are unhappy with him as well.
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary with a week long stay at the Best Western in Pacific Grove! I consider it our home away from home! Great price, the best staff and the rooms are amazing! Thank you Best Western Pacific Grove!
LOVED this hotel! It appeared more like a condo complex. Units were 3 rooms, one on each floor. We were on the top floor. We had a king-sized bed, outside deck, and a large spacious shower and bathroom. There was also a kitchenette (microwave, fridge and coffeemaker) inside a walk-in closet which was large enough for us to set up the in-room cot for another sleeping space. We had the option to park in the 2-car garage attached to our building. I noticed the garage had a plug for electric cars. The location was clean and well-manicured, wooded and near the water (you can hear the waves) in a quiet residential area. Breakfast was included and included a mix of hot and cold items along with grab and go options. Rooms were comfortable and clean.
Absolutely perfect place to stay. The feeling at this hotel is like being at home. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing, accommodating and complete and clean and comfy. The next time I am in the area, my wife will be with me and we will be staying here! I loved it and you will too! Don't stay in a box, stay in a home!
We have stayed in the Monterey peninsula many times but some how missed this hidden gem. The staff was great. The rooms were very clean and roomy. The heater worked great! Good parking! Overall stay was GREAT!!
This unique Best Western is hidden away in residential PG, a renovated condo complex with nicely-done landscaping, friendly management and spacious rooms. I was beyond delighted to learn we'd get free charging for my Tesla and that alone would make me return! The rooms have been renovated nicely and we had a pleasant tree'd view from our balcony. The property offers you a choice of cleaning times, a nice touch, and it is generally quiet and relaxing to be here. Unlike other Best Westerns, however, they do not have a kitchen, so the only hot breakfast food available is the waffle grill and egg and meat sandwiches you can heat up in the microwave or in your room. (They have fridges and microwaves). Otherwise, very complete and nicely done. Biggest room for improvement would be making things more eco-friendly, to go along with the Tesla chargers. All the dining room plates, cutlery etc are throw-away. Without a kitchen, then at least clearly labelled compostable items (that really get composted) would be a start. Likewise, in the rooms, the plastic cups and small toiletries need to be replaced by glassware and bulk dispensers, or at least have recycling bins in the rooms for the plastic.
We had a very nice week-end at the Best Western Pacific Grove. We had one of their suites. The comfy bed is by the fireplace. There is a sitting room to watch TV. And there is a big kitchen; it has limited kitchen wear, but it works for a week-end. There is also a huge outdoor private sitting space. I used the exercise room. While small, it has some very good cardio and strength building equipment. The location of the Best Western is also great for taking an extended walk at Asilomar State Park as its a short walk away. There is also nice walking in the neighborhood. The Best Western guide also gives additional ideas to get some exercise. The breakfast in the morning was so good. It was nicely laid out showing which items were protein, sugar, and so forth. Lots of fresh fruit, protein bars, breakfast sandwiches, and so forth. There was also bakery items and ability to make your own waffles. The staff there is superb. One can sit in the breakfast room, outside, in the gazebo, or there is a tray in one's room to go pick up one's breakfast and enjoy in one's room. The staff is amazing. Great location in the Monterey Peninsula. The grounds are nice. I liked the koi fish. And yes, we'll be back!
I brought my family ( 1y.o. and 3.5 y.o) for a 3 day stay during the power outage in SF Bay Area. Stayed in the suite with full kitchen. Everything we needed was there ( bring your own food and condiments though- Safeway is 1 mile away) Rooms were clean and comfortable with lots of space for the kids to run around. Free breakfast was super helpful and the staff was very accommodating. Asilomar beach is a short 10 min walk and is great for the kids. Sunsets were amazing. Front desk referred us to a good family friendly fish restaurant nearby ( FishWive). Great meal and wait staff was very tolerant of our young children. Keep in mind- this isn't a Ritz or Four Seasons, but i thought it was great value and just what we needed for a couple of days for the family.
We stayed at this inn a total 4 nights on our recently concluded vacation. The property is a failed condominium project located in a residential area, but close enough to all the attractions of Monterey Bay. Each of the original units has been converted into 3 suites with our 3rd floor unit requiring me to negotiate 3 sets of stairs multiple times to unload the car. The man staffing the front desk, who I later discovered lived across the street, was exceptional in providing information and responding to the myriad of questions I posed. The property is well maintained with both lot and garage parking available. Our bedroom was spacious, nicely appointed and included a private porch. A second room housing a mini refrigerator, microwave, rollout bed and some hangers turned out to be little more than wasted space. The bathroom included a large walk-in shower and vanity, but the separate room housing the toilet was so small that you had to navigate around it to close the door. We were disappointed to discover there was no air conditioning which was a problem even though there was a ceiling fan during the day when the room temperature hovered in the upper 70's. One exceptional touch was you placed a notice on your door each morning indicating the time you wanted your room serviced. This worked out perfectly for us since we like to return mid-day for a rest before venturing out again. A typical chain hotel breakfast is provided with us limiting ourselves most days to orange juice and coffee.
I stayed in two different types of rooms: King+Queen Suite and 1-King Bed Suite. I personally preferred the latter. It is like a 1-bedroom apartment, spacious with a kitchenette. The patio is really nice for reading a book or just relaxing. The linens were clean but the finish is a bit outdated. I wish it was brighter in the room, which would have made my stay even better. The hotel is in a quiet residential area and within walking distance to the Asilomar Beach. Great place for a relaxing vacation! I plan to stay at this hotel in the same type of room next time.
This was a real fine! Within walking distance to the beach, in a quiet neighborhood complete with Acorn Woodpeckers and deer! The room was spacious with all the amenities I needed for an enjoyable stay. I particularly liked the view from the front room because I could see the birds in the area.
My husband and I spent 2 nights while visiting the Monterey Peninsula area. The Inn, as others have mentioned, is set amid a somewhat rundown housing area. The hotel buildings and grounds are next to a walking path, and are well kept with a fish pond, trees and nice plantings. There's even some covered parking and a fitness room. We had a Patio Suite with King Bed and were impressed with the unit size, which included a kitchen, bathroom, sitting area and bedroom. It does appear these were once apartments. Decor is attractive. The patio was spacious and above ground for security, and had a table and chairs. We watched deer grazing outside in the evening next to some duplexes, and overall it was very quiet other than some noise from the guests above us. To get to any businesses means a drive into town. The unit overall was clean except for the dark colored carpet which had dirty stains and needed shampooing. The 3 sliding doors all needed greasing, were tough to open and close, and one sliding screen was off its track. There's no AC but a ceiling fan worked well to circulate a breeze when the doors were open. The bathroom woodwork needed refinishing, especially the door which was scraped up. The light fixture over the sink had some faulty bulbs or wiring because the bulbs kept flickering so we turned them off, and the toilet didn't always flush completely. Furniture was in good condition and the bed was very comfortable. Overall the best part was the size of the unit for the price in this area. Breakfast in the morning had a nice assortment of options, although the breakfast room off the small lobby only had 4 tables so it got a bit crowded. Staff were friendly and helpful. In the future we might choose to stay in Pacific Grove or Monterey, but would expect to pay more.
I was welcomed as if I was returning home by Brandon, the GM and night mgr. He was friendly, outgoing and very helpful with biking recommendations. All the staff I interacted with were super friendly and happy to be at work! Room was large, accommodating and well appointed but slightly dated.
Every interaction I had with employees was excellent; smiling & helpful. Pretty darn good breakfast too. Problem was in venue; it just felt it could use a facelift. Carpet was threadbare in spots, plastered over holes in walls & chunks out of molding throughout room. Further, I mentioned the breakfast is pretty good - which it is - but the dining area is very tiny so perhaps plan on bringing items back to room.
Really love this BW, more like a boutique hotel. Great room with a fireplace and kitchenette, beautiful grounds, friendly staff and great location near the beach. Good breakfast, but PLEASE change the brand of coffee at breakfast time, it's pretty bad. I'll come back anyway, great place!
Website photos of room are fabricated.Very small, no room to move about. It was stifling hot and No air conditioning, and ceiling fans very small, inadequate and squeals. Tiny bathroom. Think a little larger than airplane size. No seating other than on the bed, except for a chair at the desk. No restaurants near, located in an older slightly run-down neighborhood. Our stay lasted about 5 minutes before we checked out. On the plus side, the property was clean.
I found the property to be more or less what I expected. The room was spacious, but not overly comfortable. Our unit was a Patio Studio, the bedroom was a stepdown and the stairs were adjacent to the suite entry, clumsy and not very safe. The layout was odd, the single bath was next to the kitchen and far away from the sleeping area. The Inn and rooms are clean, but dated. Unfortunately, I did not find the furnishings comfortable, the living room is tiny, with only a convertible sofa. The reading chair in the bedroom was also not very comfortable. We were in Room 136, there was a problem with the maids meeting for meals and breaks every day near our room and making a lot of noise. We stayed for eight nites and used the room during the day, so this was annoying. You could also hear voices and footsteps from the unit above our first floor unit. The Inn provides a very good continental breakfast, but after a few days something else is nice. I would rate the property 3.5 stars.
I'm not sure why this place has so many stars. We originally booked this place because I could get a separate room for our kids. The extra space is nice, however that's the only good thing about this place. First off, I came at high season but the room was still quite expensive compared to other properties in the area. Our room was musty and smelled like mold. The sliding screen door to the balcony was broken and completely of the hinges. The bathroom was cramped, there was a hole in the wall from the doorknob, and the carpet was old (I did not want to touch it with bare feet). We came back after a day of sightseeing at 3pm and our room had not been cleaned. I needed towels and saw the housekeeper outside the building. I asked her about whether or not they service rooms daily and I was told if I wanted my room cleaned early to put out a sign. There was no “sign” in my room, and service before 3pm does not seem like “early cleaning service” to me. This place is a dump, I do not recommend it and will not be back. I regret booking this for a family vacation.
Parking under apartments, easy in and out, rooms spacious, separate rooms in family suit. Beds good size and comfortable. Bathroom in our apartment pretty dated with shower over bath but practical I guess for short stays. Free WiFi although a bit slow. No pool. We booked through booking.com and turns out would have been cheaper if turned up without booking, guess that's the chance you take.
Our upper-floor room (103) was spacious, with a large bathroom, big shower, private toilet, large closet. Cathedral wood ceiling gave it a luxury cabin feel. The breakfast was very good, with waffle maker, cereals, breads, pastries, hard boiled eggs, yoghurt, juices. Short walk to a gorgeous beach. One of the best motel experiences I've had in years. Highly recommended.
We have stayed here on prior occasions and have always had a good experience. This time we were fortunate to get a room upgrade so our room was very spacious and comfortable. Room was also very quiet. Front desk staff were very nice. Very good experience.
Good location, clean, comfortable room, free parking, pet friendly, coffee and fridge facilities in the room. We stayed on the disabled room, but for someone with disabilities the bathroom door would be very difficult to manage. We didn't give it 5* because the breakfast was limited to muffin, cakes or fruit, and there was nowhere to eat than on your bed in your room.
This was our first time at this BW in Pacific Grove and it was very nice. It is in a good location, short drives to downtown and minutes from Monterey. The hotel was quiet, deluxe continental breakfast, comfy room and albiet it was warmer (90s) than usual for PG - we did well in the room with the ceiling fans.
We enjoyed our stay st this resort. It appears to be townhouses converted to a hotel. The room was clean and spacious with a deck. It was in a quiet neighborhood perfect for walking. It is a beautiful quiet 15 minute walk to the ocean. At the ocean there was a beautiful trail system. There was an exercise room and free breakfast.
Very nice Best Western in converted townhouses. very close to Asilomar Conference Center and beach. very friendly and helpful staff. Clean rooms, stayed in 2 room (1 king, 1 queen) with frig, microwave, mini sink, 1 bathroom. perfect for family of 4.
Beautiful property. However fireplace did not work, not did phones. Great location, good breakfast with lots of carbs. Quite and close ocean, golf and restaurants. Needed brightening up colors in the room, but decor was current. VERY large room with full kitchen.
This property is located in a residential area that is very quiet. A big plus is that you can walk a block to Asilomar and walk on the beach. We had a large sweet with a living room and kitchen that was very comfortable. The bed is extremely comfortable. The only thing that would improve it is to have a little better landscaping around. They are not able to prepare a hot breakfast as there is no kitchen but they do the best they can with not having a kitchen on site. So you could make waffles and they had things like hard boiled eggs and yogurt as well as bread and pastry items.
It appears that this property may have been built as a small apartment complex and then converted to a motel. It is quite expensive relative to the room quality and the breakfast quality. If you stay here, you are paying a premium for this particular location.
Clean, well equipped, very quiet location, about 10 minutes drive west of Monterrey, 5 minutes walk to Asilomar State Beach. Not a lot of amenities or restaurants close by, as this facility is located in a very quiet residential neighborhood. Good for a night or two
Let us be truthful; all the hype, regarding the location of the property, was embellished! This property sits in the middle of a residential community - adjacent to an overgrown, vacant lot. It must have been an apartment complex or set of condominiums that have been repurposed. It has no proximity to any of the attractions of the city and walking is not a prudent option. The rooms are dated and in desperate need of updating. The carpet is worn and a health risk. Upon entering the room, a musty odor is noticed and the proclivity to leave the main building door ajar is a conduit for insect infestation - mosquitos and other winged biting bugs. Hopefully, dengue fever or the zika virus has not migrated to the Central California Coast. The bathtub/shower did not drain well and overall the bathroom was not modern. The entire establishment shows its age and the wear of use; certainly, a thorough modernization is required.
This place is awesome! The rooms are big and remind me of a condo of some sort! Fire place, patio, full kitchen and very clean. Staff is excellent!!! The breakfast is excellent! The grounds are well kept! Love staying here.
We stay at Best Western's because we can expect a specific level of quality. This property met and exceeded most of our expectations. Where could they improve? Better coffee! The Farmers Bros. coffee they serve is atrocious. I ended up going into town to get decent coffee every morning. The room and location are great. We stayed in a king suite and took full advantage of the kitchen and space. A quick walk through Asilomar and you will find yourself at the beach. While the buildings are a little dated and the screens on the deck could use some maintenance, this is a nice property. They just need to find another source for their coffee!
Please be advised that this "hotel" is in a very scary neighborhood. I don't mean just near one, but literally in the middle of one. We paid extra for a patio suite that looked into a grassless, scummy back yard. We told the front desk that we were afraid of the area and asked if this was safe and her reply was, "honey, you live in Texas and you're worried about here?" After we got in our room, I expected Don Draper to be sitting on the edge of the bed. The fireplace worked the next morning as we were trying to heat the room to something acceptable. The water heater roars as one showers so, do that during normal hours and not when someone is sleeping.
This hotel is tucked away in a beautiful neighborhood setting. Close to the beach, short drive to Monterey. Hotel is clean with beautiful gardens, Koi pond and friendly staff!! Pacific Grove has many restaurants and cute shops to look around in. Only a few minutes from the beautiful 17 Mile Drive,
The best western in pacific grove was one of the best we have stayed at. The rooms use to be apartments so the layout is very roomy. There is plenty of parking and the location is walking distance to the main downtown part
We enjoy this hotel because it is small and away from the main drag. It is in a quiet neighborhood and is serene. The ocean is a short walk away and it is a beautiful area. Lots of deer and beautiful flowers are all around. This is not too far from the aquarium and the wharf.
This was a great condo like place to stay. It was bear Monterey and Pebble beach. Really convenient to 17 Mile drive. Great breakfast. Room was very clean and plenty of space. Great privacy with 3 rooms to each building. There was parking in a small garage for two cars.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this Best Western. The room had a gas fireplace and all of the amenities we needed. The bed was very comfortable and had plenty of pillows. The motel is in a very quiet area and conveniently located close to Asilomar State Beach.
We usually stay in Monterey for the Pro-Am this year we stayed here and used Uber. We never spent more than 15 minutes travel to and from the event. Any one who has used the shuttle knows it can be long, this hotel is a few blocks from the Pacific Grove entrance avoiding all the traffic. Many restaurants are just a short distance away with everything from BBQ to seafood. Delivery options are numerous.
What a nice surprise. Our room was wonderful. The fireplace was nice as well. Would have liked to stay longer, but we were there for just one night. I can see a family reunion at this property in our future.
Really liked this place! Had a King Balcony room which was quite spacious. Comfy large king bed and appreciated the extra walk in closet room with its own private door. It had a roll away bed, microwave, and frig in it and was large enough to sleep in! Bathroom counter was large with lots of space! Enjoyed the view from our window with the Spanish moss tree outside. Balcony with chairs as well. Very quiet. Only building noise I heard was doors closing from the other units in the morning. The heater/fan works well but it is loud. Had to turn it off at night when sleeping. Water pressure in shower ok but could be a bit stronger. Great continental breakfast with a good variety of choices including breakfast sandwiches and hard boiled eggs. Friendly staff. Loved the koi pond in the parking area near the entrance. Quiet area but close enough to all the attractions. AsiloMar beach is beautful.
2 bedroom suite with very large comfortable beds in each room. The decor in the rooms and hotel in general seems in need of refreshment. There is a microwave and a nice range of toiletries. Good air conditioning. Breakfast buffet with plenty to choose from. Kitchen area is a bit small for the total number of hotel guests. The hotel is set in a quiet wooded area but only a few minutes drive to the beach at Asilomar. Close to the town of Pacific Grove for some good restaurants. Overall I would recommend this hotel.
We will probably stay here for all of our future beach getaways. Very good location. Enjoyed so much, we may not do our annual Mid California Coastal vacation as ritually and come here more instead!!!
When in Pacific Grove I always try to stay at this hotel. The room is immaculate and spacious, the toiletries are lovely, and the free self parking a definite plus. The curtains eliminate all light in the morning and never a sound is heard from the outside.
This was perfect for us to spend a couple days in Monterey and Carmel. Location was great. Not far from beach, few minutes to the Aquarium, Cannery Row and next to 17 mile drive. Hotel is a little aged but very clean, quiet and the staff is excellent and accommodating. Price was very fair.
We especially like this place because it is extremely quiet. It is located on a side street. At one time the motel was likely condominiums. The breakfast was decent, with many choices like waffles, pastries, coffee, juice, cereal, hard boiled eggs.
My wife and I just spent a fantastic 2 day get away at the Best Western Inn & Suites Pacific Grove. We have busy lives and just wanted a quiet place to call home for a few days and we explored the Monterey/Pacific Grove/Carmel area. This place was exactly what we needed. As others have said it is a former Condo complex so the rooms had some perks that you will not find in most hotels in this price range. 1. covered parking directly below your room. The have taken the doors off the former garages and turned them into carports. 2. Huge walk in closet! It was so great to be able to put suit cases, ice chest, etc. all in the closet out of the way. Didn't think this would be that big of a deal but it was so nice that I now wish all hotel rooms had it. 3. Vaulted ceiling. We stayed in a standard king room but it felt bigger because of the vaulted ceiling. 4. nice balcony- because these used to be condos there is a nice sized balcony. It looked like the rooms on the ground level had an even bigger outside area. 5. Quiet neighborhood. This property is in a very quiet residential area. So quiet and relaxing. Just what we needed! 6. centrally located. This property is walking distance to the beautiful Asilomar conference center & BEACH! Took a beautiful walk to catch the sunrise & sunset during our stay. So beautiful. The location is a quick drive to everything you want to see while visiting the Monterey Bay Area. We spent one day hiking the trails at Point Lobos state park. It is a must do. Absolutely beautiful! The property was spotless. Good selection at the continental breakfast. Friendly staff. We will definitely be back!
Our home area was totaling engulfed by smoke from the Camp Fire in north central California. Fortunately we had previously made reservations for a 4 day trip to the Monterey Peninsula. At the recommendation of a friend we tried the Best Western. Its located on a quiet street, yet only about 6 blocks from the ocean and maybe a mile and half from the main street of Pacific Grove with all its shops and restaurants. It's also close to the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary and the entrance to the 17 Mile Drive. . The motel consists of 5 buildings each containing mostly 6 rooms for a total of 31 accommodations with some containing fire places. The rooms are spacious, clean and well appointed. The personnel couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating. The complimentary breakfast was very substantial with a wide variety if items. If you are interested in a restful motel and away from the chaos of Carmel or Monterey proper but convenient to the entire Monterey Peninsula, this is the place. The only challenging item was idiosyncrasy of the thermostat. Not a significant problem but be aware.
We stayed here in December 2018 and it was a great place. It is about two blocks from the Asilomar Conference grounds and close to the beach and all of Pacific Grove and the Monterey Peninsula. Good staff. Coffee available at all hours. Simple breakfast in the morning. Good beds, clean, spacious and comfortable. A little pricey, but a great place for to use as home base, or to kick back and relax and recover from a day at the aquarium, Carmel, Big Sur and all the wonderful places nearbye.
We stayed in Monterrey at the Best Western for 3 nights. We truely appreciated the 2 bedrooms. We are a family of 4 traveling with a 6 and 8 years old and having that extra bedroom was perfect. The last day, we walked to the Beach ( 15 min walk) and I wish we had done that the first day. The hotel is a bit remote, but we actually liked that. Pretty quiet in a beautiful environment. I highly recommend this hotel especially if you travel with kids.
Great location, nice spacious room with Kitchen space, fantastic breakfast. The hotel is central to everything and walking distance to the town. It is also in a relaxing location close to the golf courses.
Really Nice! Comfortable! Down right homey! From first phone call inquiry to checking out, it was as if we had been staying there years and we all knew that! Right friendly Staff, CLEAN and Tiddy and catered to us smokers outside in a nice gazebo! Nice simple breakfast afair and clean dinning/kitchen area! We'll be back!
We stayed for 3 nights at BW The Inn & Suites Pacific Grove which is a convenient place to stay but is good only to sleep there. The location is close enough to walk to the oceanfront trail to walk along. It is a close drive to the town center which has a good selection of nice restaurants. We had a king bed balcony room, but were disappointed in the unattractive view from the balcony looking at neighborhood houses. The breakfast room is tiny with no hot prepared food such as eggs except packaged food to microwave. The toilet room is tiny and enclosed so it's tight to fit into. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful.
You can pay a lot more at many other places here in the Monterey Bay zone. Chances are you won't get a room that was once intended to be part of a three-story condominium/time share. As a BW "Diamond Select" rewards member, I try to patronize BW properties when I travel. They are usually nicer quality properties, and often a bit lower priced than other places in the vicinity. Here, you may find deer visiting in the afternoon, and if not here, they are all over the area nearby. Close to the Asilomar conference center, just a couple of miles from the center of Pacific Grove and the Cannery Row portion of Monterey Bay. Very quiet residential area, also close to west facing beaches along Sunset Drive, and just a few blocks away from access to the 17-Mile Drive through the Pacific Grove gate.. The money you'll save by staying here can be allocated to visiting the Aquarium (can book two-day admissions for the price of one using the computer at the office), or for dining, souvenirs, or the toll to view the 17-Mile Drive.
Price was right place as very quite and located in a residential area. From what it looks like they took an apartment complex and made it into a BW. No complaints. but note is out of town and nothing is in walking distance. Also if your own the 2nd floor you will have to talk the stairs. Not a big deal for us.
Huge room for our family of three. Complete with full kitchen. Brought continental breakfast back to the room and enjoyed it. Wish our stay was longer so we could enjoy everything longer. Sofabed was not a hit. Fireplace was great for March
Surprise by our stay. Though this is set in the back areas of Monterey in a neighborhood setting surrounding by pine trees, it was peaceful. Our room was like a suit with a separate area for the frig, closet & microwave, then a big bathroom with a large shower. the room had all the items a room needed and more. The desk had great suggestions where to eat and it was written on there welcome sheet with a map. We enjoyed the food at a Mexican place called Michaels that was just minutes to the hotel. We got a special deal and it was last minute too , it may have been found on Trip Advisor site for a little over 100 or so. It was well worth it. I would stay again and again. We loved it !
A very different kind of lodging--in a good way. As it turns out, this Best Western was built as a time share and converted. It has spacious rooms in an extremely relaxed environment. Walkable to a few restaurants and--if you don't mind walking further--to fabulous Monterey Peninsula beach scenery. Like being part of the neighborhood. This is not the place for those who want to be close to action--for that you'll want a short drive. But it's quiet with typical peninsula trees and water sounds (if not views). Very nice.
Nice quiet location away from the noisier parts of town. Rooms are large although a bit dated. Pleasant stay except that we had a clogged bathroom sink. Maintenance and quality of breakfast could be improved. Still giving 4 stars because it was otherwise a nice tidy property.
This hotel was clean with excellent size rooms. There were three of us and it had 2 bedrooms with cooking facilities. Safe included. Really close to Monterey and Pebble Beach. Would definitely recommend.
Situated in tranquil Pacific Grove, amongst a leafy setting, this BW turned out to be a great choice for 2 nights. We stayed in room 114, very spacious with a small balcony to sit out on in the evening. Very comfortable king bed and so quiet, no sleeping worries here. Breakfast choices consist of good quality products too, although hot options are not available. Nearby is a coastal walk which is very pleasant to undertake, and we saw many wild deer grazing in nearby open spaces. We really liked it here, and is a well priced choice for the location, away from the hustle and bustle of nearby Monterey.
I had thought of staying in Monterey as part of our trip from Pismo Beach to San Francisco, but so glad I stayed at this gem of a hotel in Pacific Grove. We were looking for a family room as there are three of us (14 year old son) on this journey and we found the perfect solution here. He has his own bedroom, which is ideal. Rooms were excellent, free WiFi (unlike so many larger hotels), kitchen area, plenty of parking for each unit, perfect. Main building provided great choices for the continental breakfast and the staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. Location is quiet, which is exactly what we wanted. Within a very short walk to the beach, or a short drive to the centre of Monterey. Perfect location, great staff and a great price. Would recommend.
Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. Hotel was in a good location- quiet and comfortable. Paths to walk on- close to beach area. Good if you want to be away from tourist areas but close enough to drive 10 minutes to Monterey.
Well located in quiet setting. Very clean, spacious units with small balconies and carport parking attached to teach three-unit building. Owners are exceptionally cordial and helpful. Pretty good continental, help your self, breakfast room. TV and WiFi reception above average. One of the best values for your dollar in Pacific Grove.
My husband and I had the most wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff is friendly and helpful. The shoreline is walking distance and the rooms are spacious and quiet. We felt like we were in a resort. Don't miss the friendly koi in the pond across from the office!
We were pleasantly surprised! After a full day of enjoying California's Highway 1 this was a perfect end to the day. The location is wonderful, not on a busy highway and within walking distance to the beach. Upon arriving, the exterior of the property is appealing and welcoming. Check in was a breeze. Our room with 2 beds was more like a 1 bedroom condo or town home...roomy and comfortable. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. Gym was adequate to burn off a few extra calories consumed while travelling. Breakfast was good! Overall, very nice stay!
We found Pacific Grove and the Best Western to be a gem we didn't expect! Rooms were spacious, clean, and had everything we needed. Breakfast was great and many options. The woman who checked us in was helpful and gave us great info to spot whales (no whales, but we saw dolphins) and a great location for beach walking! Thank you!!
My wife and I spent the night here. The desk receptionist was very freindly and helpful about the area. Our room was more like a small resort apartment complete with a nice sitting area and small kitchen. The bathroom suite had an open washbasin area, a tiny commode chamber and a small shower stall. The balcony looked over a small foot trail. Very clean and quiet.
Having stayed here before and being very pleased, we were disappointed. Nice location. First, the room we were assigned at close to 4 pm, had not been cleaned/made-up, so we were assigned another room/suite. While the suite was satisfactory, and clean, the porch area was dirty and had a lot of spider webs. One of the TV controllers didn't work. The stopper in the bathroom basin was lying loose and we had to fix that ourselves. The room thermostat needs an instruction sheet. Breakfast was OK.
The hotel was completely remodeled two or three years ago and is very well maintained and in excellent condition. The kitchenette units have a range top, full-size refrigerator and a board range of utensils but no oven or dishwasher. The complimentary breakfast offers pastries, cereals, waffles and refrigerated breakfast sandwiches. The staff is EXCEPTIONAL. Our only criticism is the cable channel selection; it's very limited. But the internet speeds are good and easily support streaming HD video. If you're planning to visit the aquarium you can buy tickets thru the hotel computer and get a ticket for the standard one day price which is good for 2 days.
This was a delightful lodging experience — every room was a townhouse with its own bedroom, kitchen, and small living area. Our room was very clean and nicely furnished. There was also a garage, patio, fireplace, and safe. The staff was unusually friendly and helpful, assuring us that they are available to respond to whatever needs we might have. Our only complaint — my wife has limited mobility, and we communicated that fact when we made our reservation. We learned upon arrival that even the first floor rooms have steps and the room itself had several levels. We made the best of it, but would have appreciated knowing what we were getting into beforehand.
Because of a knee injury, I had a handicapped room. The room and bath were very nice. The parking spot was right in front of the room. Breakfasts were fine. Good location. Close to many restaurants (within short driving distance). Close to 17 mile drive through Pebble Beach.
Stayed there for the big Sur marathon the wheelchair accessible rooms were awesome roll in shower, beautiful king bed nice terasse breakfast, peaceful neighbourhood we wanted to stay longer, they were unfortunately full. Will be my first choice anytime I visit Monterey. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay.
Charging is NOT free. They charge $10 which is a lot given other BW provide with w/o charge. This is not a nice BW, and would recommend looking at other options in the area: there are several. Room was clean but not well maintained. There was as no one at the desk at check out.
As others have said, it was like having your own apartment! We had a large bedroom, a huge shower, a separate toilet room and utility style room with a fridge and microwave. It also had a spare bed available to fold out in this room if required. Was clean, spacious and breakfast the following morning was perfect, my husband particularly enjoyed using the ‘make your own waffle' machine! Plenty of cereal choices, yoghurt, pastries, bread, and microwaveable egg muffins etc. They also catered for gluten and lactose intolerance. Staff were helpful and friendly, I would highly recommend and would definitely stay again.
Very nice floor plan with fireplace, full kitchen and two floors of living space. Super fluffy towels were also a bonus! Great location, close to beach and nice place if you enjoy walking. Quick service and friendly workers.
It was like we were staying in a personal apartment. The staff was amazing, rooms were spacious, breakfast was spot on. It is located near a residential neighborhood making it a very quiet, peaceful sleeping experience.
This is not a typical hotel. Appears to be a former condo complex. Very spacious. Somewhat of a strange layout with bathroom at one end and bedroom at the other and a change of level with three steps in between and yet it worked exceeding well for us. Separate area for TV watching and a fireplace in the bedroom. High ceiling and lots of windows. Very pleasant. We stayed three nights and were very satisfied. Breakfast is included and is quite decent. Great base for exploring the area.
Situated next to the famous 17 mile drive, this was a great place to stay, we had the lovely town of Carmel on one side and Monterey on the other. The hotel was spacious, clean and provided a complimentary breakfast which was adequate. The staff pointed us to a local fish restaurant which we could walk to, it was very good. One of the highlights of our stay was to drive to the Spanish Inn on the bay golf club where each evening at sunset they have a Piper coming up the 18th playing Scottish tunes!
Stayed here for a few nights and used Pacific Grove as a base for our travels around MRY and SFO. Check in / Check out was easy...front desk staff were extremely helpful with requests and questions. Rooms and bathrooms were of a good size, well maintained and clean. Thank you Best Western The Inn & Suites Pacific Grove for such a memorable stay.
Incredible hotel for the price. The room was clean and comfortable, the service was great, the breakfast was awesome. We will definitely be staying here again! This stay has changed my view of best western.
We had a great 2 night stay here in winter . Great value offered for off season king suite, friendly helpful service, good standard breakfast, lovely setting in middle of woods, clean, spacious room and bathroom, very comfy bed.
Service is very average. When we arrived at the front desk, we had to wait until someone come and do our check-in. We stayed there on our way to Say Francisco and on our way back from there. The first stay, was terrible. It was impossible to connect to the wi-fi. The room telephones weren't well plugged so they only worked after a person traveling with me fixed it. After fixed, I tried to reach front-desk around 20:30 to ask about the wi-fi and no one ever answered me. On our second stay, was way better. Everything was working as it was supposed to. Service was again average. The really good thing about the hotel is that is super close to the entrance of 17 mille drive.
When I booked the 2 suites at Best Western, I knew that it would be a clean, well maintained hotel with a free breakfast and reasonable rates. I was shocked at finding a Best Western in this location, a quiet residential area, with lots of trees and you could hear the ocean when sitting on our balcony In our suite there as a kitchen, living room , bedroom with a gas fireplace. It felt cozy and warm. Instead of looking like a Best Western hotel room it felt like a retreat with the high beamed wood ceilings and very spacious . Very clean. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. The breakfast was amazing. Thank you for making our stay a memorable one .
Made our reservation on 12/31/17, the front desk called on the morning of 1/30/18, to say our credit card had been declined... I contacted our CC and the BW had submitted the wrong expiration date for the CC. Almost a 4 hour drive to get there with some bad traffic in Monterey. We were greeted by Ed, Brandon, & Pam. To make amends, they gave us a complimentary bottle of wine for my birthday and said our room was an upgrade. Not knowing what any rooms they had, we were on the 3rd floor landing with an OK view of a garden area. The room was nice with a separate closet/room with roll-away bed, refrigerator, microwave, safe, and coffee maker. The shower was large but the "water closet aka toilet area" were VERY small. I had to stand against the wall just to close the door - it would have been a good place for a pocket door than sectioning off the main bedroom from the bath/dressing area. The HVAC runs like a 747 jet taking off in your room. Thank God the weather was so nice, we only used the heater when we showered. All-in-all, the grounds & accommodations were nice-we would definitely stay there next time we go. The breakfast was not as nice as some BW's - they have no kitchen so no hot eggs, bacon, sausage... they provided breakfast sandwich that had to be microwaved and the standard waffle makers. The fruit was fresh and the service was polite & helpful.
We stayed in a big suite, which was so nice and at an affordable price. There was a fireplace inside, spacious bedroom area with a television and sliding door, which opens up to a large patio area (if repainted to match room decor, it would look a lot nicer...like painter dark brown or very light brown rather than blueish), a couple of steps leading to a living area with a couch and additional television, kitchenette and dining room area and bathroom. The location is nice and quiet, in the middle of a neighborhood. Staff was very friendly, and I was even given a free bottle of wine as a gift since it was my birthday. We didn't get a chance to use the fitness center, but we did wake up in time for breakfast, which was pretty good (waffles, cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries, different beverages, etc). I would stay again because of the location - it feels like a nice little getaway spot.
We came here on the recommendation of a friend and chose the king suite with "full" kitchen. Re the kitchen first: It is large but no oven and the barest of necessities when it comes to silverware, plates, terrible knives, no mugs only tiny cups and we had to ask for a wine opener which was fine. The cookware was old old old non-stick which was all peeling. No way would I use that. The bathroom is all the way across the suite from the bedroom and up 3 steps. Not good at night. Dangerous actually. Luckily I brought battery candles to light the steps. The view was horrific. Out the back to a shanty. The deck was large enough but with that view, why sit there? The upstairs guests could be heard all night long trudging up the stairs. I would not stay downstairs in this hotel given a second chance. On the plus side, the fireplace was really nice, bed comfy and nice heater as it was cold while we were there. The location couldn't be better for playing golf at Poppy Hills, Spanish Bay or anywhere in the area actually. The staff was helpful and the breakfast room had what my husband wanted..a tiny muffin and coffee. For me, the cons outweigh the pros on this property and I will be looking around for other digs.
We have been here 3 times and love the place. The staff is very friendly and helpful, we love the location, and the bed is very comfortable. We come for a few days to relax after seeing the grandkids. Wonderful!
This was a pleasant surprise, the room was large and well appointed, all staff were welcoming and helpful, the continental breakfast was fabulous, from pancakes to fresh fruit lovely, I would recommend this establishment wholeheartedly.
Recently stayed at the Best Western, Pacific Grove. We had a great visit. Our room was comfortable, clean, and we loved the full kitchen and fireplace. The staff was very helpful and kind. We would stay here again.
Recommended by a friend, we chose to stay close to the conference site at Asilomar. The staff were great when we raised a concern about the kitchen facilities in the suite. They immediately found another suite for us,much larger and still very comfortable. We liked the office table which was large enough and had enough electrical outlets for two phones and two laptops. The breakfast was excellent with lots of "make-your-own" choices as well as fruit and OJ. We can't say enough about how warm, friendly and accomodating the staff were. Parking is sufficient with some spots outside the door. The suites are arranged like a condo but noise was not an issue. I would stay here again.
An absolutely amazing place to stay. Very very clean, friendly staff, quiet place, free parking, free internet, and free breakfast. Reasonable price, a few minutes away from the beach. We travel every year, and definitely, we will stay again in this hotel.
This is our preferred place to stay in the Monterey/Carmel area. It's located outside the main commercial zones in a wooded setting with the beach a short walk away. Location provides easy (car) access to a host of local features and attractions. Room size and amenities are excellent.
If you are looking for a quiet location and lots of space, I highly recommend the BW Inn Pacific Grove! My 2 teens and husband stayed 4 nights before the holidays. This place is a great stay for families with teens who want their own room or space. We had two rooms, a single room with king bed on the 3rd floor and a suite with king/queen sofa bed and kitchen on the 1st floor. Even though they are not side-by-side, they are right on top of each other between 2 short flights of stairs. The single room was very spacious with high ceilings and a closet that had plenty of room for the rollaway bed (included) to be laid out for a private sleeping area off the bathroom. The kitchen had lots of counter space, and came with a set of dishes, pots/pans, cooking utensils and utensils. The king beds were very comfortable. The heating and hot water worked well. The location is right next to Asilomar conference grounds and beach, on a residential street -very quiet. The complex is older and the rooms are not "glamorous", but clean, comfortable and spacious. Housecleaning service was good and consistent, plenty of towels, soap, shampoo, etc. The continental breakfast is basic, but enough to provide fruit, cereal, make-your-own waffles, and yogurt to start the day. We will be back!
We had a great time in Monterrey and Carmel. Hotel was pretty reasonably priced. Had a decent to pretty good breakfast selection. I'd stay here again. Some late night drunkards frolicked thru the complex late Friday. Not management's fault. But, detracted from the stay. Saturday and Sunday night were without noise issue.
Very enjoyable night. Staff were excellent. Room was clean and large. Very comfortable bed. Motel is nestled in a green area a five minute walk from the ocean. Breakfast was continental with lots of choices from fruit to cereals, although I do prefer a hot breakfast.
A lovely little spot a block away from the beach. Even though the Inn was full it did not seem that way. Snuggled inside a community that was rich with a variety of trees and gardens, it was hard to believe that it was located in a city. We were impressed by the variety of birds, hummingbirds and butterflies that could be seen and heard. Even had deer in the area. There was a lovely water feature that delighted a pair of hummingbirds as they stopped to bathe. Our room (2 bedrooms) was basic .... and somewhat difficult to navigate around some old heavy furniture. If refurbishing is on the agenda, we would encourage the use of less bulky furniture so that one could get around easier. The main bedroom had the small balcony while the adjoining bedroom had the sink, fridge and microwave ... an inconvenient set up. The breakfast consisted of a variety of packaged foods ... typical of most Best Westerns. What was disheartening was the lack of recycling! Everything went into the garbage. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast room very small, overflow outside or back to your room. Pacific Grove: Loved the old the old theatre downtown and were stunned to see and hear a huge number of Herring Gulls that circled the town at sundown. Quite a dramatic effect!! Pacific Grove is a lovely town and we would definitely stay there again.
Great place, reasonably priced, walking distance to Asilomar. Had a good experience with checking in and out, and the staff was very helpful. The breakfast was good- maybe coffee could be a little stronger?
This hotel was a condo complex that was converted to a hotel, so it is much different from most other Best Westerns. The hotel was clean, comfortable and there was enough parking for all the guests. The beds were very comfortable so we slept great. The only downside was that the breakfast area was too small for the number of rooms in the hotel. The 4 tables in a tiny room made it quite crowded at peak breakfast time. The breakfast had a good variety, but it was mainly packaged foods.
We booked a suite with king size bed and got an apartment complete with fireplace. Staff was outstanding and very accommodating Breakfast was about average. Internet intermittently required new sign on. Book early and get the best value.
We stay at this hotel every time we visit Pacific Grove and have been coming for years. It has a quiet neighborhood setting yet close to the beach and downtown area. It has recently been remodeled and updated, rooms are spacious, clean. The suites include a king bed, fireplace, living room area, two televisions, bathroom and a full kitchen. There is also a sitting area outside with two decks, one enclosed. Staff always friendly and helpful. Complimentary breakfast in dining lounge. I highly recommend this hotel, can't wait to return.
Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights to attend a family wedding. Location was great and within walking distance to the Ocean. Breakfast was good and had enough selection to help start your day. Staff was very helpful and friendly.
Guaranteed Rest, Marvelous Free Deluxe Breakfast, Snacks Throughout the day, Close to the College. The staff was ridiculously nice and went out of their way. Nice swimming pool, there is a hot tub that works, and most importantly a sauna that gets the job done. This is a place of solace. Great wine and farmers market all around. I forgot to mention the. Walmart near by.
Overall a good place to stay. The downside for us was unseasonably hot weather coupled with no air conditioning. We are told no one in Monterey has a/c as it never gets too hot. Not the case when we were there - it was stinking hot. Really nice room in quite location, good breakfast, good staff. Add air conditioning for 5 stars.
This hidden hotel in Pacific Grove was in an awesome location. Short walk to Asilomar Beach, a little longer but nice walk to Lovers Pointe. Close drive to Cannary Row and Carmel to name a few. Nice clean room, covered parking available, continental breakfast, we had a great experience and will be back.
Unexpected Hotel in residential area very close to Asilomar -- approx 1 mile to downtown Monterrey. Very large suite with high sloping ceilings and deck. Large kitchen; Walled in deck for privacy. Very relaxing. Front office (Branden) excellent host. Parking in lot under suites often filled up but there was no problem parking on street.
We loved this hotel. The rooms were large, clean and well laid out. The location was perfect as it was close to many things we wanted to do. Staff were great and went out of their way to be helpful to us. We loved everything about this hotel. The breakfasts were great also. No kitchen but a refrigerator full of food that can be microwaved. Had waffles, and lots of breakfast cold foods. Great breakfast. In a residential area so very quiet and serene.
Pacific Grove is a beautiful place for a romantic getaway and the Best Western was a great place to stay. Friendly staff, nice accommodations for a reasonable price. We loved how close it was to all the activities we had planned. It was the perfect place for a romantic getaway.
Great location! Room was very spacious and comfortable. The room had three separate living areas. A bedroom, living room with a separate TV, and a kitchen with a dining area. There were two private patios for outdoor living. Overall our stay was very relaxing and enjoyable. I will definitely stay here again when visiting the Monterey Bay Area.
I was pleased with my unit with large rooms. This hotel is much better than I expected because of renovations. As others have previously mentioned, it is located in a quiet area close to the beach. The breakfast area has a good selection of food.
We have stayed here on several occasions. King room with kitchen beautiful. Private deck, fireplace, internet, clean rooms, comfortable beds, kitchen has utensils, coffee cups, wine glasses, silverware for 4. Dishes and microwave and full refrigerator. Walk to ocean from room, nice walk, not to steep. Overall great stay!
This Best Western is truly a gem. It was a great find for us and wished we could have stayed longer. The surrounding area was residential and park-like. From our terrace we could see deer wandering about close to the property. Rooms were ideal. Staff was great. Exceeded our every expectation. Helpful staff who recommended several restaurants based on our likes and dislikes. We even walked to one!
This hotel was of a very high standard with friendly helpful staff. One of them even picked us up as we were walking into the town. The rooms were of a very good size and clean. The breakfast was self service but the variety of food to choose from was excellent.
I actually doubted all the perfect scores on Trip Advisor, that is until I stayed there. It was great having our own little apartment. I loved the wooded setting, deer walking around and quick walk to the beach in addition to a great fish restaurant down the block. It is only a few blocks away from The 17 Mile Drive and Pebble Beach Golf Course. We did need to keep the slider opened at night for some air, but at no time felt unsafe about it as our unit was so high off the ground and with our own deck. There were quite a number of stairs to get to our door, so this might be a problem for some. This is not a fancy hotel. No bar or restaurant on site, but it is a nice place to stay. Having our own garage was nice too.
We stay here in a suite every September for the Monterey Jazz Festival. It is very comfortable. The high point for me is walking the beautiful 1920 neighborhoods and to the ocean. Deer wonder about freely and it is very peaceful. There is a seafood restaurant within walking distance but no shopping. Pacific Grove downtown/village is a short drive. There are wonderful little shops and plenty of really good restaurants. It is very peaceful and beautiful.
Clean, quiet, relaxed, friendly and helpful staff, great coffee in the breakfast area, close to everything, very easy to get around. I will definitely stay here again the next time vacationing in this area.
This Best Western is small, woodsy and fits with the location, across the street from Asilomar. Rooms are modern, and recently remodeled bathrooms. Great staff. Serve yourself breakfast, healthy granola and dried fruit ,and other cereals too, yogurt, toast, make your own waffles. Quiet location, clean, comfy beds. We especially liked the two bedrooms (one bath). Easy to walk thru Asilomar to the beach.
The Best Western Inn and Suites Pacific Grove California is a quiet, spacious facility. It is near 17 mile Drive between Monterey and Carmel. The room was very clean and well maintained. The breakfast provided was better than the standard chain hotel breakfast.
Thanks to Best Western, and how well they treat and honor their guests, the entire staff made sure that myself and my wife had the best experience stay, were comfortable. It's one vacation we will not forget, Best vacation yet!
A good option to more expensive hotels in Monterey, close to the 17 mile drive. Clean rooms, but a bit small. Parking just outside your door. Good breakfast. Some of the staff were not so service minded. Terrible wifi, which we pointed out, but we were ignored. Nothing was done to try to fix this.
Loved this hotel - in the middle of a residential district. Relaxed and comfortable. Walking distance to Asilomar beach where you can lay on the sand and watch the surfers and the waves. Room was comfortable and roomy. Landscaping outside lovely - little ponds and fountains, and places to sit. Fabulous being away from the commercial centre of Monterrey but easy to get in there to see the attractions, and easy to get into Carmel too. Easy driving to Safeways and gas stations. Really recommend this hotel.
Great stay for several days here. Nice balcony. Oddly arranged room, but new and comfy. Nice indoor and outdoor breakfast areas and gazebo. Nice landscaping. Price varied wildly from day to day and week to week ($120 to $210!) for the same room, so be sure to get the best price, which is often BWRewards price. No AC, so don't stay during a heatwave (like they are having now). We were lucky because it was foggy for the five nights we stayed. It's not close to town, but we preferred the tucked-away location for peace and quiet and quick access to Hwy 1 via 68. If you have limited mobility, beware. No elevators, and if you don't get the one handicap room we saw, you may do lots of stairs. I was told 14, but in actuality it was 26!
Great place to stay for a mini vacation just a few hours away from home! Comfortable, clean, and attractive property nestled in between beautiful residential homes and areas. Lots of trees and quaint neighborhoods to walk along the neighboring streets.
We had a lovely stay here! The location was perfect- close to town center and beach but a little away for a relaxing and quiet stay. Also right on the start/end of the 17 mile drive so a perfect location if you're traveling/on a leisurely trip. The rooms were impeccably clean and the bed was super comfortable. It was very quiet and relaxing. The staff were super friendly, helpful and professional. We would definitely come back here again in the future if we're in the area.
I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The staff at check in was very friendly. The room was very spacious. We had a standard room that included two bedrooms. It was very quiet. The area that it is in is just lovely! We saw deer just a block from the hotel! We did not have breakfast here at the hotel but I believe it is a cold breakfast since they don't have a kitchen onsite.
Lovely staff with clean rooms and quality service .. quite and calm area for relaxing.. this my second time here and i will visit again .. enjoyed using the gym, but i wish the breakfast has more cooked food..
The staff were helpful and very friendly. The rooms were clean, comfortable and HUGE. I stayed in two room types, and the suites are massive! The location is quiet and peaceful and a 10 minute walk to asilomar and a stunning beach! Great experience!
I give this hotel a "B+". This hotel offers a different take on the hotel experience. It was marketed to me as each guest has their own private cottage, but that is not the case. You're actually sharing a building that has different "mini apartments" in it. The pros are that it's in a quiet residential area, it had a nice size private deck area, and the fireplace was a nice touch. We got a suite, and it was worth the upgrade. The cons were that there is no pool, and there's not much for kids to do. It's in a nice residential area, but there's not much privacy as the neighbors can pretty much see right into your hotel room. Lastly, there was very little room to walk around in our room. What's worse was that there was a doorstop for the front door right in the middle of the walkway. In fact, my wife tripped over it twice; me once. That's a basic safety issue.
We like this hotel as it is centrally located for the 17 miles Drive, Carmel, and just a few minutes from town down Monterey and the Aquarium. There are some great restaurants close by and it is a set in a forested area where the deer often come down to craze.
Our room was perfect for a family of 4. The area is quiet, the front desk was responsive, and we had a ton of space for hanging out when recovering from outdoor activities. This hotel is about 15 minutes from Point Lobos and 30 minutes from Elkhorn Slough. We bought groceries in town and were able to refrigerate and cook some of our meals and snacks (and the hotel serves standard continental breakfast).
Best Western Inn is a great place to stay! Simply lovely area and a great headquarters to enjoy the Monterey Peninsula! Close to the beach, the monarch butterfly sanctuary and public transportation. We walked to downtown Pacific Grove and loved the quiet, the architecture, and the scenery!. We spent all day enjoying the historic Victorians, walked to Lover's Point and the Pacific Grove Farmer's market. And then we walked to Asilomar Beach to watch the sunset. Just breathtaking! Caught a bus to Monterey and enjoyed the Aquarium one day and Cannery Row/Fisherman's Wharf the next. I highly recommend the Best Western and this gem n the Pacific!
Old apartments converted to motel. I liked what they did. Super funky. Staff incredibly nice. Seriously, the front desk gal was a sweetheart. This is not a fancy place. I've stayed all over Monterey. I'd stay here again. The beds however were hard as a rock
This is nice hotel in the area, quite, good breakfast, short walk to the beach, fine bedding, close to Monterey, 17 miles drive, and Carmel. Our room was clean, had nice balcony. The staff was friendly, and helpfull.
This is a very nice hotel in Pacific Grove. The rooms are spacious and clean, the location is perfect whether you like to walk on the beach, walk to the 17-th mile drive or go anywhere around in this beautiful area. There is a refrigerator and a microwave in the room which is a very convenient addition in case you don't want to go out for each meal. The price was a little bit high this time, but it was a Holiday weekend and what else can you expect at this location.
If you want to stay here n pacific grove for more than just a night, then BW would be your best choice. Remodeled rooms, friendly staff, and home style breakfast. Close to the ocean. We will definitely come back
This was a great place to stay. Very peaceful and beautiful area. My room was extremely spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff was wonderful. I loved staying here and will stay here again. I enjoyed the entire experience! Check out my photos.
Quite location in a residential neighborhood, 5 minute walk to Asilomar beach and 5 minute drive to the aquarium. Close to Trader Joes which was invaluable for having a casual dinner in the room (microwave and frig). Spacious rooms.
When our GPS told us you have arrived at the BW, we could not visually find it. What we saw was a series of condominium cluster,2 "duplexs" with a garage. Each cluster consisted of 6 rooms/suites. We had a king room on the top level. Huge room, 4'x6' walk in show stall, lag walk in closet with a twin fold up bed, frig and microwave. Clean, comfortable and 25-30% less than nearby name brand motels/hotels.
Very large accommodation, converted condos, large bedroom, huge shower & kitchenette. Pleasant staff, clean and tidy. Not luxurious by any standards but well worth staying here. Location fab. Eat all you want breakfast and plenty of free parking. 10 mins walk to beach and one if pebble beech golf courses.
Arrived at 1:30, told room not ready until 3, asked to use a restroom after our drive, told not available. That night no secure internet (no password required).., next morning power outage.check out poor, wanted to divide check... hotel did auto check with all charges on one persons credit card... then instead of $156 a night, were auto charged $170... all in all disappointment all the way
This reconverted set of condos has been turned into a best western--and boy does it look like someone got stuck in a time machine!! Layout of room was weird and the room was dark, very dark. Cable reception was spotty.
Lovely big hotel rooms (we had the King suite) with exposed wood beams and brick fireplace, modern bathrooms and full kitchen. The little touches helped make our very long stay a lot easier. Loved the clean remote, the helpful and cheery staff, the grounds, the proximity to the beach, the excellent water pressure and super comfortable beds. Shout out to Brandon who let my daughter give the koi their fish food in the mornings.
Finding this place was not easy. Do not enter Best Western Inn and suites in your GPS it takes you to another location, we found it by entering the street address (660 Dennett St) We rented the suite as two couples fully expecting to each have our own room. However, the set up on these rooms does not allow for any privacy at all. Room number one has the entry and room number two has the bathroom. So, if the couple in room #1 needs to use the bathroom they have to go through couple #2's room. If couple #2 has to leave they need to go through couple #1's room. When asked about this layout the counter person told us it is set up "family style". We could not see any advantage to this set up. It was certainly inconvenient and totally NOT private, and really messed up our 39th anniversary plans. The rooms were clean. The breakfast was good. Disappointed
They had two separate bedrooms. One had a king bed and one had a queen bed and also a great breakfast. You could make your own waffles and they had breakfast sandwiches. Delicious! Walking distance to the ocean, and right next to the Asilomar conference center.
Lovely spacious suites set in a very peaceful area, convenient for beaches and nearby Monterey attractions. Great variety of breakfast options, with additional outdoor seating for romantic/private dining. Walking distance to several quality restaurants, beaches, and the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary. Conveniently located in quiet residential area, and close to start of 17 Mile Drive.
Stayed here for 3 nights while I was in the area for the Big Sur International Marathon. Room/suite was huge, comfortable and clean. Great area: walked to the beach every evening. Staff was wonderful! They gave us great suggestions on restaurants in the area.
Set in a residential neighborhood, quiet, reasonably priced compared to other accommodations in the area, a warm welcome at the front desk from Maria (if I remember her name correctly). I appreciated the breakfast that includes healthier options such as yogurt, granola and hard boiled eggs. If we return to the area, we'd stay again. Great location to explore Point Lobos, the 17 mile drive and the lovely trail along the beach.
We had a large group staying at this hotel and even though there was some confusion upon checking in, the staff there was very friendly and helpful in resolving the confusion. A Very quiet pleasant location and would recommend to my friends anytime they're in the area. Love that they turned this place from apartments to hotel, so there are some spaces to park in a garage.
Our first time staying here, and it was quite nice. Room was clean and had good wifi, nice gas fireplace. Free breakfast was better than usual at hotels in this price range. Staff was very helpful, and parking was easy. Definitely will stay here again.
The room is very nicely appointed. The king bed was extremely comfortable. We couldn't get the safe to work, but since we didn't need it, we did not report it. The hotel was located in a residential area and very quiet and peaceful. The beach was within walking distance and restaurants were in close proximity. We have stayed here before and will definitely return.
This hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood of Pacific Grove. It clearly used to be condos, but have been converted to hotel rooms, with the largest including a kitchen. I feel this is a much better option that the overpriced hotels on touristy Cannery Row in Monterey.
We decided to stay 1 night near Monterey so we could visit the aquarium early in the morning. Although this hotel is situated out of the way in a residential area, it was easy to find and very quick to drive to Monterey the next morning. The staff were very helpful at check in and let us leave our car in the registration bay as our suite was just above the reception area. The suite was very nicely appointed with a large main bedroom, a separate bedroom and a bathroom. All furnishings were modern and comfortable. Breakfast was simple but enjoyable, with two self-serve waffle makers that our kids loved.
Overwhelmed. Set is a residential are close to the Pacific each separate modern low rise building that makes up the hotel has been brilliantly designed to provide space and privacy along with plentiful parking. Breakfast was good. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are very well equipped large (fridge and microwave) and very comfortable and quiet. The location is excellent- a pleasant walk through an up market residential area and you are on the Pacific and can walk around the coast path. A Trader Joe's (vital in our family for healthy food and unhealthy drink) is less 5 minutes drive away. The only quibble is there is no on-site laundry but who would want to visit this beutiful location to do washing?
Good location away from the bustle around the downtown area. Very quiet. locartion. Walk to beach. Rooms were clean, but sorely needed an update. Very "brown" a little dark and depressing. Some garage parking available. We did not get the room we reserved, which was to have a fireplace. A bit disappointing. They gave us a two room suite instead, but we were looking forward to the family room with the fireplace. Breakfast room was very small for the facility and a bit disappointing.
Pacific Grove is a lovely quiet town adjacent to Monterey. This small inn is off the main road and within a ten minute walk to the beach. The layout is like a condo with different type of rooms / suites on each of the three levels. There are several buildings with 6 rooms total in each building. We stayed on level 2 with 2 bedrooms and one bathroom suite. The beds are comfortable (King bed in one and Queen in the other room). The bathroom is a good size but lacking towel bars and hooks. The suite comes with a mini fridge and microwave. Free continental breakfast (bread, danish, bagel & cream cheese, cereal, boiled egg, breakfast sandwich, yogurt, make your own waffle) is adequate. There are a vending machine for drinks and one for snacks. This is the best vending machine I've seen. Chips, candies, pop corn is only $1 each. There is even aspirin for $2.25. Biking and walking around this residential neighborhood or along the beach are lovely.
We stayed for a night on a Road trip from San Fran to San Diego, lovely little inn, set in gorgeous woodlands next to a stunning beach. Highly recommended and also head to fishwife for dinner only a street away
We planned to stay for two nights but ended up staying three. We really liked this hotel. Large spacious suites, very clean, very quiet and plenty of free parking. An easy walk to Asilomar beach and a short drive to Carmel or Monterey. Quiet residential neighbourhood. Friendly and helpful staff.
Lovely location in a residential neighborhood near the crashing waves of Asilomar State Beach. Nice (apartment style) rooms with two TV's and gas fireplaces. My fireplace was non-operational. Delightful staff. Very impressive self-service breakfast. Had trouble with WiFi, only to learn that the desk clerk had given me an expired password. Grrrrr!
We had a wonderful stay, can't wait to return. Perfect location, friendly staff, nice rooms. The breakfast was good, we had two rooms which the kids loved. Behind the hotel was a nice walking trail and Asilomar is never close.
The room was a surprise being quite large and with a full kitchen which was great for heating up leftovers from the night before's dinner. The "suite' was comfortable with a separate sitting room and table in the kitchen. Everything seemed fairly updated and the room and bathroom were clean. One drawback is that the property is in a neighborhood so it is not that enjoyable to sit outside looking at houses with boats in the front yard and vehicles parked all over the place. Also it is not near anything to walk but driving it was only a few minutes to downtown. We thought the breakfast was very subpar to the point that we only got coffee and tea the next day. Room options for those things were limited. However others seemed to be enjoying the "free" food. I would rather pay less and be able to make a piece of toast and decent cup of coffee in the room or go out.
Nice place to stay for vacations, rooms are nice size and balcony is a nice touch too. My only issue is that I could not receive a closing statement when I checked out and the front desk did not have a solution, said she would email my closing statement, I'm still waiting, I did not receive one from Trip Advisor either, this is a problem when I travel for business and need receipt for my expense report!
This hotel was very nice..clean room and very big! We enjoyed the fireplace in our room. Convenient location, we walked to the beach and theres a nice little trail around there. great service and we will definitely go back!!
Terrible service, incompetent unapologetic unhelpful staff. Not worth what you pay. Not ample parking. Did not provide access to WiFi. Have me the wrong room and did not provide any discount or anything in return. Ridiculous!
Room 103 is on 3rd floor without elevator. Looks like Best Western bought a defunked condo complex and converted it. Bed and pillows great. Bathroom huge, walk-in closet converted to storage and kitchen which is good. Quiet neighborhood Because of inclement weather we spent tiime in room. Chairs uncomfortable. Poor lighting. Breakfast terrible. No maid service Would ne'er stay there again
I can be short about my stay here, we love the area,17 mile drive is around the corner and the city center is a short drive. The best Western is a good place to stay quiet en clean, spacious rooms ,I think they all come with 2 bedrooms one with a king size bed and one with a queen size bed, very comfortable beds, good size bad room. Breakfast is simple but fine to start the day. The area is expensive, but I think you get good value for your money. All in all noting to complain about.
Unique set up but not of the best kind. Be prepared to cart your luggage up flights of stairs with no help. We had a queen/king room. The door walks right into the king size bed. In the room there's a tiny table and chairs. Sliding door to a small balcony with 2 chairs. There is a door to the adjoining queen bed room. This room has a washroom (where the king room does not) a kitchen with fridge and microwave and a chair. Both rooms have a TV. The set up didn't work for us. There was no common area to sit and talk or even watch ate. We had to pick a bed and lie on it to watch TV. We had to leave the door between the rooms open so the person in the king bed could use the bathroom, in the Queen room, in the middle of the night. Breakfast was continental. They ran out of coffee twice while we were having breakfast and the milk was full but wouldn't come out. The room was almost $200. I understand the area is expensive and this is one of the less expensive hotels, but we've stayed in a variety of kinds of hotels/townhouse condos on our trip and this is one of the most expensive and our least favourite.
We continue to like this place and recommend it as a place to stay. The suites are very nice indeed, although more pricey. Ralph, the previous manager has left and the manager who greeted us was on her last shift - nothing personal we hope! A new manager is needed, providing some supervision for housekeeping, who came to service our room very late one day, had not come at 3:30pm the next day and we had to request that the room be cleaned. The following day, we were asked if we wanted the room serviced, when I thought that would be a given. However, it was all very pleasantly done with no ill feeling. Breakfast was, as usual, continental type, but perfectly ok, served immacutely. I do think some supervision should be provided now that people travel from countries with different habits. The area is lovely and peaceful, the bed in our room superbly comfy and I slept very well. A lovely end to our trip in spite of the little service problem.
I've been there many of times in the last few years I believe 4x prior. This time it was bad as the beds that my wife and I slept in it was to firm that on awaking up in the morning our shoulders were bruised from the bed. Putting that aside It's a lovely place and well centralized in PG.
Private parking garage, and safe. Comfortable bed. & very clean. Large rooms, almost like staying in a condo. Great Breakfast, nice selection. Staff very helpful. GPS a little confusing, but worth finding.
When we first walked in, I was a little skeptical, because it seemed dark and not the type of room we're used to, but it ended up working perfectly for our family of 5! It was like a little condo. There was a large bed (King?)in a lower part of the large room with a TV, dresser, etc., and in the upper part (maybe like 5 steps separating the 2 parts), there was a pull-out couch with another set of drawers & TV, and the bathroom, kitchen & Dining area. The kitchen was set up with flatware and dishes. We never cooked there, but used the dining room table and the full-sized fridge/freezer for restaurant left-overs, beverages, & ice-cream. It was super handy. Garden Grove isn't a far drive, but we seemed so spend most of our time in Monterey, which seemed like about a 10-15 minute drive? The hotel is in a quiet semi-residential area. We walked to the beach in less than 10 minutes, with kiddos. There's a continental breakfast that includes the basics---cereal, yogurt, fruit, milk juices, pastries, waffles--which is perfect for kids & I actually liked too. The staff was friendly and the room was perfect for us. Parking was free. The only drawback was there wasn't a pool.
We arrived at night in thick fog so couldn't see the outside at all. Great welcome and there was undercover garage parking. The hotel rooms were in individual buildings with I think 6 rooms in each. We were in an upstairs suite with a stunning room. Kitchen and spare room, great shower, big bedroom with loft space. In the morning when we opened the drapes we were thrilled to be up in the trees ... Great view. Room was very clean. No air con but they loaned us a fan straight away. Super staff and good breakfast. Located in lovely village community area. We saw deer as we left. A really special night One of the best rooms we had in a three week Road trip with 12 hotels.
This was a great location where we saw deer daily and the odd racoon. The room was spacious, comfortable and more like a studio flat. Fully equipped with fridge and microwave. The breakfast was ok more continental, the only hot meal was toast or waffle. Overall a great place to stay and would definitely return.
This was the most amazing place I have ever stayed, due to its location and unique property characteristics, the value and it's immaculate cleanliness and attention to order and detail. I love Pacific Grove. This little gem should be one of its best kept secrets for my sake.
Room was very clean. Our room (103) was great, except for the bed. It was very hard and could not get a good nights sleep. The staff was very helpful. Place was in a quiet neighborhood, no traffic noise at all.
My wife and I spent one night in this facility on a trip along the West Coast. The room was spacious, very clean and comfortable. Pleasant reception. Breakfast was good. In a very nice location around a wooded area. Short drive to beach; easy access from 101.
Staying in Pacific Grove California is always good. It's fun watching wild deer wander about. There is magic in the forest, and walks through the village and at the sea coast are very uplifting. The hotel is very convenient. We book a large suite with a kitchen. Stop at Trader Joe's for snacks to fill the frig so we don't have to go out to eat every meal (eating out in Pacific Grove is not a hardship). The roomy suite is quiet, clean, and very nice to spend time there. It isn't cheap, of course, but worth the price for us.
Been here several times and once when it was a Howard Johnson's. Stayed in a family suite with separate rooms which was nice. Close walk to Asilomar State Park and beach. Cable tv is good, newspaper available, ice machine, snack machine. Very quiet and peaceful beachside "condo-like" residences. Breakfast is adequate with yogurt, coffee, juice, sweet rolls, oatmeal, four kinds of cereal, toppings, toast, bagels and breakfast room. Exercise room but rather stroll the beach and breathe the ocean air. We hiked up and down the coast from our hotel and drove 17 mile drive. Sea otters, dolphins, sea lions off shore as well as surfer dudes on the beach. Close to town and we went to church at St. Angelas and dined on Thai food which was across from Post office in P.G. Love the area. Love the accomodations.
This BW was a big surprise! It was arranged as groups of 2 or 3 large condo-like suites, with a large kitchen with a dining table ;, a smallish living room with large flat-screen TV; a large, nicely appointed bedroom with it;s own wash basin and large flat-screen TV; and an average-type bathroom with an extractor fan. The suite was very clean and well maintained for the three nights we were there. Service was excellent. Breakfast was average, without starter fruit, and refilling empty milk dispenser took at least 10 minutes. The two sliding doors in the suite had faulty locks, and one electrical outlet did not work. A nice location, quiet, and convenient for enjoying local attractions and restaurants.
Clean, quiet, comfortable and very family friendly. The included breakfast was a great selection and the area was so quiet! Our room included a small kitchenette which was very handy. Would certainly stay again.
I have been to Pacific Grove and Monterey several times and have stayed at a few different hotels in the area. I found this hotel to be the best for these reasons - great location - very easy walk to the beach, quick walk to the Asilomar Conference grounds (was there for a conference), a peaceful neighborhood, and the cozy homey feeling of the townhouse style rooms. The rooms are spacious with balconies. The breakfast was just ok.
This hotel is 2 miles from Monterey downtown area and near the 17 Mile Must Do Drive. Older property which could use some updates, but large. In residential area, about a 10 minute walk to beach. No air conditioning, but didn't need it. Only waffles and dry items for breakfast. (No eggs, sausage, etc.)
We had a small 1-bedroom apartment that was a very nice place to sleep and had all the amenities you would expect from a Best Western. It is tucked away from the ocean, for the good and the bad... It just feels more of a place to sleep rather than a vacation or nature place.
The rooms are a junior suite and have a full kitchen and sitting area. Lots of room with a deck to sit out in the evening and have a glass of wine. We were quite pleased with the overall experience. Close to the beach, biking and hiking areas.
The Best Western Inn and Suites in Pacific Grove has nice size suites are spacious, clean with comfortable beds. The Best Western is centrally located, within walking distance of restaurants and the beach. I will definitely visit again!
Where to start? This place is a fantastic find: the main bedroom was huge with a very comfortable king-size bed. The bathroom had a fantastic shower and there was an additional small room with a fold-up bed. Breakfast was lovely every morning (plenty of fresh fruit and juice, waffles, pastries...). We're trying to think of excuses to go back again for another break! The only minor issue we found was that the wifi was pretty patchy and kept cutting out.
A nice Best western in a great location. Close to the beach, Town, Monterey and Carmel. Will stay again, Great places to eat on the wharf. Beautiful beaches and walking trails. Decent breakfast in a small room. We will be back.
I was attending a conference at Asilomar, but needed a bigger room for my accompanying family. Turns out I made a good choice. Stayed in one of their 2-bedroom, 1-bath suites that was a bit tight but worked and was well appointed. Hotel consists of multiple 2- and 3-story buildings without elevators. Parking provided in outdoor lot and underunit garages. Decent continental breakfast (don't expect cooked eggs or hot food though). Maid service tends to come later in the afternoon. Good wifi. There's no AC but it's not really needed given the climate here and there are ceiling fans and openable windows. Super convenient to Asilomar Conference Center (5 min walk) and sandy Asilomar Beach, which has a boardwalk that can take you north and south towards Pebble Beach. Located close to one of the gates to 17-mile drive. But you'll need to drive to get to the aquarium and Cannery Row. Would stay here again at my next conference.
Only stayed here when all the hotels we had chosen in Monterey were booked, but very pleased we did. This is a unique hotel obviously converted from a townhouse complex. We had a top unit with a huge bedroom, separate space for ironing, kitchen etc plus vaulted ceilings and an enormous shower with a window. We also had a balcony, although there wasn't much to see. It is in a residential area and we saw deer nearby. The breakfast area is a bit small but the food was good. Pacific Grove is beautiful - the short drive along the coast to Monterey is spectacular. The hotel is also near one of the entrances to 17 mile drive. A very pleasant stay.
This is definitely a different kind of Best Western that offers an experience closer to a condo. There are garages and our unit had a kitchen, dining room, family room, bathroom, bedroom and balcony. Yet unlike a condo you get maid service each day. And free breakfast was so convenient. Not a lot of room to sit and eat there so we just took our food back to our room to eat instead. They have a washer and dryer we used for a small fee. The dryer was broken so we had to wait a few days but did get to use it before we left. Unfortunately the units are not well sound insulated so hear everything from people above and outside. Location is in a nice quiet area though.
Clean and quite comfortable,In a very quiet residential area close to 17 mile drive, Looks more like an apartment complex with some rooms having carports. Would consider this property again. No pool though.
Best hotel to stay. Had everything you would expect of a hotel. Great breakfast, comfy beds, clean and nice bathrooms and enough toileteries/towels. Will stay again. It is a townhouse kind of setup in residential neighbourhood but peaceful and convenient to beaches and monterey. Glad did the right choice.
I think Pacific Grove is the best place to stay on the Monterey Peninsula. Much quieter than Monterey itself. The gate for the 17 Mile Drive is very close to this hotel and you can walk to the Asilomar beach (and check out the conf center, designed by Julia Morgan who also did Hearst's Castle). We had room 101 which had a gas fireplace, kitchen, king bed and pull out sofa. Everything was great including the breakfast. Being from the East Coast, we did find it surprising that we actually used the fireplace in early August! Nice all around
All intereractions with the staff before our arrival were great (thanks Joy and Sagel). We originally booked a standard room however Sagel was able to upgrade us to a King Suite a few days before. The room was HUGE and nice. It was a split level with the king bed on the lower level with a fireplace. The pull out sofa was in the middle level, and the full kitchen and bath on the upper level (just a stair or two between each level). The rooms were very clean and nice. We loved the location. It's a 5 min walk to the Asilomar Beach area and was so pretty and quiet. It's also convenient with the 17 mile drive starting about one block away so we could use it to avoid the Monterrey traffic. The breakfast was very good with waffles, and the standard continental fare. We loved it here and would definitely stay again. Thanks also to Pam who immediately made us feel welcome upon arrival and gave us a great recommendation for dinner. We wanted something very closeby and the Fishwife was great. Thank you!
From arrival and check in to checking out we couldn't fault this hotel. Although in Pacific Grove, it is only a few minutes drive to the Monterey Aquarium and Fishermans Wharf. Located in a quiet residential area, GPS is useful, the hotel is made up of blocks of 6ish rooms. The rooms are large clean and have most of what you need. The beds are large and we found them comfortable.the breakfast is like most, and at times was busy, however no complaints from us. All in all I would highly recommend this hotel.
Very neat, clean, affordable place to stay in a good location for enjoying Monterey. Semi-detached cottages with rooms on two stories - a throwback to an earlier time of unique local hotels/motels. Even though pretty full, no noise or disturbances. A few blocks to ocean scenery. Management extremely accommodating.
Huge room, huge toilet, huge everything. breakfast is awesome (compared to all other hotels i stayed). parking downstairs directly. staff so nice. only thing the location is not that fantastic though. but quiet!
i love it here. .i will definitely be back. it was quiet and just absolutely perfect. it was very accommodating, the only thing is that it had no ac.they had fans but were inadequate because they were placed so high up
We spent quite an enjoyable three days at BW Inn & Suites Pacific Grove in July 2016, The premises took some finding as it is literally surrounded by neat residential properties in woodlands. It is a good base to visit this lovely region, being very close to the famed 17 Mile Coastal Drive. The premises is rather an untypical BW premises though the interior decor is rather dark, and needing some updating. Ed, the Manager on site works very hard to welcome and help clients. The breakfast area gets extremely congested, being small in area, though if the weather actually gets warm and clear there is some scope to eat outside. For a quiet, secluded place away from the hustle and bustle of nearby Monterey, we recommend this inn/hotel, though it is not a cheap place to stay.
We were a group of ten, so we had a total of five rooms. Best Western is usually a safe choice, with clean rooms and a nice breakfast. These rooms were exceptional. Each was comparable to a small condo. It had a large sleeping area with a fireplace. The living area was small but sufficient. It was the kitchen that made our weekend so special. It was light and had plenty of space. There was a full kitchen table, and a sliding door to a large deck. This allowed us to assemble our group easily, cook and dine together as desired, and just relax. We WILL be back!
I stayed at BW Inn & Suites Pacific Grove for one night in July as part of a road trip down the west coast. I arrived about 20:30, parked up and went in to the check in desk. I walked upto the counter (quite loudly) and stood there waiting to be checked in. The lady behind the counter was, what it looked like to be sewing and didn't notice me. I stood there for about a minute awkwardly before asking to be checked in, startling the lady (sorry). The lady explained the process of the hotel, breakfast, first come first serve parking etc and then i went to my room. I was on the third floor in the second block. The room was massive and in 3 separate blocks, There was the bedroom with a balcony, a dressing room/bathroom with a walk in shower and a utility/kitchen room with a fully fitted kitchenette etc. The bed was really comfy but struggled to see the tv clearly from the headboard end. I was woken up early by people slamming doors etc. Noise really does travel through these rooms and i heard everything on the stairwell. Really noisy. I finally got myself up after being woken up and decided to go for breakfast. Breakfast was great they have pretty much everything. Normally with these free breakfasts you just get the basics but they had a great choice including full size waffle makers, not the rubbish machine made ones. After breakfast i tried to get back into my room and it wouldn't take my card. I went to reception and the woman told me sometimes cards deactivate on check in day? I explained i had to leave the room to get breakfast so found this quite bizarre. I checked out soon after. It's a shame i didn't arrive a bit earlier as i would have like to have made use of the balcony and the room a bit more (was pretty expensive). The only downside was the noisiness from other guests/rooms and the Wifi is terrible, disconnecting constantly resulting in me using all my Data up costing me a fair bit. Other than that it was a good stay and i would return
This hotel had a king suite that fit our family of 5 perfectly with one child in a sleeping bag. Full kitchen and nice deck made eating at the hotel easy. Quick walk down to Asilomar beach made this hotel a great location for getting away from it all and just having a relaxing few nights away.
The hotel is in a quiet neighborhood, yet only a street away from the entrance of 17 Mile Drive-Pacific Grove Gate, beach and Pacific Grove main streets. We had a 2 bedroom suite which was greatly appreciated by the kids and my husband. The facility was very well maintained. Everything was cleaned and well stocked. The continental breakfast included good choices for fruits, cereals, yogurt, toasts, bagels, waffles, coffee and juice. My only wish is that there could be more inside seating for breakfast time.
This is a converted condo complex located off the main thoroughfaire It is well maintained on the outside with a nice in room arrangement. Management appears to be taking its job seriously as the outside is very quaint. Feels more like home than in a hotel off of a highway.
We booked a king bedroom suite with fireplace and kitchen and 2 back decks which were above ground. It was very clean and spacious and we loved it. It is also reasonably priced for the area. We went by several hours early and were able to check in at that time. The staff was pleasant and accommodating. The Inn is in a very quiet neighborhood close to Asilomar. We have been going to the Monterey Peninsula for many years and were not aware of this property. In the future, we will be staying here.
Decent size rooms, good staff, very clean updated rooms. Converted property makes for some interesting room layouts. Good pickup breakfast, good beds, Ample parking. Not a resort type property. Close enough to for a long walk to the beach.
BW Garden Grove is best place to stay in Monterey. This hotel is not near the busy area. it's very quiet neighbor and close from beach. It's best place to go to relax vacation for meditation. rooms and shower rooms are spacious and clean.
This is an average run of the mill hotel, 3 star, neither good nor bad. The location near the beach is handy, wifi is easy and the mattress was comfortable, easy close parking and a quiet environment but the rooms are dated and some maintenance is needed.
We were in town to play Links @ Spanish Bay and Spyglass and didn't want to pay the $$$$ to stay on-site. This place is literally outside the gate of Links @ Spanish Bay and a block off 17-Mile Drive. Fantastic location...but it doesn't stop there. The facility is wonderful. Our room (2-bedroom Suite) was roomy, clean and very quiet. The people were also FANTASTIC. Upon check-in the lady informed us that they would have a "grab-n-go" ready for us in the morning (since we would be up early for golf). The next morning I went to get the "grab-n-go" and the front desk guy asked if we would also like the full breakfast...he opened it up an hour early just for us. We HIGHLY recommend Best Western The Inn & Suites Pacific Grove and we will be back too. Thank you for a WONDERFUL stay!!
This was one of the lower priced rooms in Pacific Grove, but I thought it was a solid value. The rooms are much larger than most mid-grade hotel rooms (I have traveled a lot on business using Courtyard, Fairfield Inn and similar properties). Decent buffet also comparable to other mid-grade hotels. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The beach was a short walk (about 1/2 mile) through the Asilomar Conference grounds and there was a wonderful walking path around the beach from there. I've attached a few pictures from the walking path. The hotel was not adjacent to any major attractions or restaurants, but we liked the quiet location and it was only a few mile drive to Monterrey and many nice restaurants. We thought this hotel was an excellent value for the price.
This property is in an excellent location. The rooms are unique and huge as the property appears to be converted condos. The pull out couch was comfy. Our room was on the first floor and had a very nice patio.
This property is a hidden treasure. The rooms are very spacious and the service is outstanding. I have stayed here several times over the past 6 months and am grateful to know 'my' spot in Monterey. The location is close to all the great spots in Pacific Grove (like Asilomar Conference Center, Butterfly preserve, etc.) and Monterey. It is just minutes from downtown Monterey with great walking routes right out the front door. All this in a very quiet neighborhood off of the main drag. The suites are pretty much the size of an apartment with a kitchen and lots of space. Regular rooms are quite large and homey with lots of space for gear or rollaway bed. The staff has been very helpful and always friendly and professional. On one occasion, I had a last minute need for a room and they were able to accommodate me in a comfortable, reasonably-priced room with very short notice. I highly recommend this property for anyone who would like to explore Monterey and the area around it.
We had ants in our room (walking over the bed). All the rooms are full so we could not get another room. The lady at the frontdesk has sprayed the room, but the ants were not gone. The hotel is in a very beautiful neighbourhood near the coast. Except for the ants I would strongly recommend this hotel.
Beware when making reservations. Make sure you keep copies of your confirmations and reconfirm the day of your arrival. They may tell you that your reservations were for a different day! Once you arrive to the hotel, that is a different story. The staff was very helpful and apologetic.
Formerly a condo complex, this property is tucked into the trees. However, because of the layout, there are no elevators. Front desk check-in was very welcoming. Because of the condo conversion, the room layouts were very interesting and spacious. Good breakfast buffet. Very reasonably priced considering the area. Would definitely stay here again.
My cousin and I stayed here four nights while in town for his son's/my Godson's wedding. The hotel is tucked into a private little corner of a residential neighbor and is so hidden that my Godson didn't even know it was there....and he lives in Pacific Grove!!! Front desk people were friendly and helpful and there was a computer and printer for use in the lobby area. The rooms were very nice (we had a two bedroom 'suite'), very clean, and the beds slept wonderfully. They also had a small refrigerator, a microwave, and a sink/counter in one of the bedrooms as it was a somewhat strange layout with no real separate sitting area. Parking was convenient. Two negatives led me to give it four stars in lieu of five....first, there was only one small closet in the room, which could have held up to four adults, and was certainly crowded for just the two of us and all of our wedding and rehearsal clothes. Second, the breakfast offerings included stale muffins, out-of-date yogurt, and no milk to drink. Don't get me wrong, I found plenty of good things to eat and I was sustained, and the coffee was as good as it gets in a hotel environment (it was outstanding), but food should never be set out stale or out-of-date.
Large clean 3 Room Condo with large outside decks ,kitchen and living room. Spacious parking, ok breakfast and in room fireplaces. Front desk could be better trained. Would recommend for anyone to stay here. Quite and private off the beaten track .
We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely Inn. The only problem is the stairs. Several of the units are three stories with stairs only. Try to request a first floor room when you book. You are right across the street from the entrance to Asilomar in a very quite neighborhood.. Pacific Grove is a small town so it only 5 to 10 minutes to anywhere you want to go.
We had a great 1 week stay in a king suite with a kitchenette. The room was clean with updated furniture and good linens. Bathroom was nice with granite countertop. Kitchen was exceptional- very spacious with tile floors, full kitchen table and 4 chairs, full size fridge, sink, microwave etc. The room also had a separate small lounge area with a love seat-sized couch, coffee table and additional TV. There were 2 portions to the outdoor patio, with the lower section being completely private. Breakfast was great with waffle and pancake makers in addition to a good selection of the typical buffet foods. Location was very quiet and private and in a residential, wooded area. Just a few minutes drive to downtown PG, Carmel or Monterey. Walk to ocean is about 5-7 minutes. Only minor complaint was the worn condition of the carpets.
Great stay nicely laid out. Neat tucked away location yet close to ocean. Garage parking well lit with charge station. This was our second stay and plan to return for the races at Laguna Seca next year. Have stayed at many different places in Monterey including bed and breakfast inns. We love the bed and breakfast experience however very pricey and we spend all our time at the race track.
Startegic place on our way to Napa Valley, coming from Big Sur. Minutes away from 7 mile drive. King size bed, quiet neibourhood. Garage for your car. Great place! Restaurants are near, as well as beach.
This hotel is in a very beautiful, peaceful setting a few minutes from Asilomar beach. Overall, the room was clean but the layout was odd. We had a two-room suite with one king and one queen with sink and fridge. The king bed was very hard. There was no real sitting area other than a small table with two chairs. There was a small balcony with some additional seating. The tub was a little clogged up during showering, but the bathroom was clean. The breakfast was fine, nothing special. Overall, I've spent a little more and had better in this area, but for a clean place to stay it worked fine.
Tucked away in the middle of the suburb this hotel seemed out of place. It however proved to be great accommodation for the price. The suites are really comfortable and well equipped. Parking is available underneath your unit, which proved very welcome in the rain. There are bicycles to hire too. The standard sugar and carbohydrate rich American breakfast is provided.
Things got off to a bad start as the manager tried to put me in a standard room, when I'd reserved a superior one. But I got moved, and had a nice upper floor with an outdoor balcony. The location is quiet, in a neighborhood (with a little on street lending library across the way), and I very much enjoyed having wine and snacks out on the balcony, looking up at the beautiful redwood trees. I'd say this is a very good choice for Pacific Grove and I chose it over nearby Asilomar Conference Grounds. Breakfast is pretty much American style continental fare (too sweet), and they don't have enough tables/chairs to accommodate the number of guests. Excellent parking available.
The King Suite was spacious and very comfortable, except for the sofa which has seen better days. It was very quiet at night, but noise from departing guests and cleaners was noticeable in the morning. The full kitchen was a great bonus. This is a very well-run place with a peasant staff, and the garage was the cleanest we've ever seen!
Our stay was definitely not a typical Best Western experience. The accommodations were the best I've had yet, and we have stayed in Best Western hotels in Idaho, Oregon, Washington and, of course, California. You enter into a living room and around the corner was a full kitchen complete with cooking utensils and dining table with a small porch off that. . A few stairs down in the opposite direction was the bedroom with fireplace.
Stayed one night. Spacious, quiet room and good breakfast provided. Slightly out of the way of the main drag but that suited us. You would need a car if staying here. plenty of onsiite parking. Recommended
This Best Western is tucked away in Pacific Grove, CA. It was beautiful, clean and quiet. I highly recommend this hotel. The staff was friendly and my friends and I had a fantastic time. This is a perfect location and close to Pacific Grove downtown and Carmel Valley. Great Wine tasting near by and great Restaurants.
Anyone travelling to the area of Pacific Grove, Carmel or Monterey MUST make reservations at this establishment. Without a doubt one of the most wonderful places to stay. CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN. Beautifully landscaped, staff members exceptionally pleasant, knowledgeable and efficient from the Front Desk, Housekeeping & Maintenance. Every member of this Best Western Team gives 110% to assure every guest is treated as a VIP. We had such a wonderful experience, THANK YOU!!!
This is a renovated condo complex so I would warn everyone who isn't able to drag their bags up a couple flights of stairs to give this place a pass! Considering the layout of the property, a bit of help with bags greatly would have improved our welcome. We were aware that there would be stairs involved, but assumed that we would be able to get assistance from the hotel's staff. I had prepaid our room using the Air Miles Canada program. The clerk working the desk on arrival was completely befuddled by my confirmation, but I left my credit card information and we proceeded to our room, a king/queen suite on the second of three levels. The room itself was very attractive and we really appreciated the fact that we could each have our own room and TV. There is a very noisy fan in the bathroom that blasts heat whenever the light is turned on and this was a bit annoying; however, our first overall impression of the room was overwhelmingly positive. A few minutes later, the desk clerk was at our door, saying that the BW Rewards program had no record of my reservation. I explained AGAIN that I had paid for the room with Air Miles, a completely separate program. The clerk gave me a number for BW, and a conversation that of course proved fruitless followed. So frustrating. Because of the muddle, I had to contact Air Miles the next morning to sort out the confusion. I was told that no matter what happened, and even if I were wrongly billed for our stay, that Air Miles would handle the issue. It was nice to deal with someone knowledgeable who cared that our vacation was enjoyable and didn't want us to waste more time resolving what never should have been an issue in the first place. That same morning, my friend and I were awakened at 7 am by the front desk, in response to our request for a WIFI password. Unfortunately, neither of us had asked for it! It's sad to say that the clerk who woke us much too early was the best staff person we encountered. On our last afternoon in the room, my friend said she had just killed 3 little ants in her bed in the past 5 minutes. I called the desk, and spoke with Ralph, who manages the property. I said we had found ants in a bed, and he asked if they were little black ones. (They were.) Therefore, we concluded we weren't the first to complain about this issue. We were not offered another room, but Ralph did come by shortly afterward with a can of insecticide. In the meantime, we searched and found several more ants in the bed. This didn't seem satisfactory so I walked to the office to ask to be moved, only to be told the hotel was full. After a few minutes, I was told that we could have a room across the courtyard from ours. I decided this was a good plan and took the key. The room was very different and one of us would have had to sleep on a hide-a-bed. But the bigger issue was that I was told we couldn't get any help to relocate, meaning we would have had to pack everything, drag our bags down stairs and then lug them up a second set. My friend and I, both women over 60, didn't think this was acceptable, so she chose instead to rip the bed apart and spray every square inch. Happily, we didn't see any more ants. This wasn't a satisfactory resolution as a more competently-managed property would have arranged for someone to help us. We were already inconvenienced by staying in a bug-infested room, but to have to handle our luggage ourselves went beyond the pale. We were very glad the next morning to be able to pack our bags and leave the BW-PG behind. It's such a shame that a property with so much potential is staffed by people who made our stay far less than ideal.
This is a converted townhouse complex located right next to Asilomar Conference Center. Was always referred to by my name by the staff. Has garages for your car. Rooms are kinda weird as they are reconfigured tow homes. Not that it's a bad thing, just sayin it is unique in that it is not your typical hotel. Breakfast is a continental breakfast. Waffles, cereal, etc. no eggs.
The Best Western in Pacific Grove is well located, quiet, clean, and a great family value. We stayed for 3 nights and had a good time. This is close to the beach and to Pacific Grove/Monterey. The condominium style hotel is a great layout for families traveling together.
Well maintained older motel, but really needs screens on the windows to keep bugs out. The staff was friendly. The room was clean. The rooms had ceiling fans. The motel is close to a large sandy beach. There are plug ins for electric cars.
We called before we arrived, to find out if we could check in early. They had a handicap room available so we took it. It was spacious with a king size bed and a large bathroom. Of course the handicap shower made it difficult to contain the water from getting all over the bathroom. The wifi worked well so we could stay connected. The breakfast was mainly cereals, coffee and juices but you could also make your own waffles or pancakes. Its location on a side street made it quiet at night. It is only a few minutes drive from the restaurants in Pacific Grove and the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
What a great place to go!....Ralph the owner is awesome and keeps a this hidden gem a clean place to visit. Ralph went beyond awesome customer service and this is why I will go back. He let us check in at 11:30 am and already had a room ready for us. This is a hidden gem and close to everything. Quiet and small so its really like home away from home. I recommend anyone with family or not to stay here!
Such a beautiful setting. When we first turned onto the street we thought we had the wrong address. It is among single family houses but very woodsy. We even saw deer on the street next to this hotel. it was very seren and quiet. The amenities were nice but the beakfast room is way to small and we had no place to sit. Even the outdoor seating was taken.
Room was below what I expected. Needed maintenance. Condo layout is kind of funky. Not too bad, but overpriced. The area of Pacific Grove is beautiful. Next time I will stay at another place though maybe closer to the lighthouse.
This property is in a great location, close to Carmel and Monterey, quiet, and with a good free breakfast. The management is very hospitality driven, making sure his guests are well taken care of. We spoke with him every morning at breakfast. We can't wait to return.
Walk to beach, close to nice restaurants/shopping in lovely pacific Grove. Few minutes to Carmel if you feel the need. I lived in Carmel for 5 years and always found myself in Pacific Grove or point south like Point Lobos.
For a simple stay, the hotel was quiet and satisfactory. It is located close to Asilomar Beach and the Monarch reserve. We were happy that were on the third floor because the walls seemed a little thin.
I liked this hotel because of its location. It was very quiet with no road noise at all. It was also within 1/4 mile from the ocean with nice walking and biking paths. BEWARE!! there are thieves!. Somebody stole my bicycle pump off my bike while I had gone to my room for no more than 5 minutes. Do not leave anything of value unattended.
A hidden gem. Out of the hussle bussle, very quit, very clean. The bed was comfortable and had a nice little balkony. It is also a great value. Had to use navigation to find the place, but well worth it. Would stay there again anytime.
My husband and i spent three nights there in February. We were very impressed with the cleanliness and size of the suite. The bed was comfy and huge. The kitchen had tons of counter space, and all new appliances. Wifi was quick and free. The location of this property was perfect. It was in a residential area, so it was quiet. However, it was close to the beach, town with good restaurants, and the entrance to 17 mile drive. The staff was quite helpful. We did not have their breakfast, but it was available if we wished. I would highly recommend staying here. When I am back in the area, I will stay here again.
This hotel is in a residential neighborhood. That made it private and quiet. Everything was clean and orderly. There was enough of everything. Abundant bathroom supplies like towels, abundant breakfast bar. Abundant internet. A beautiful flowing fountain that you see when you drive in.
This is a wonderful location and just a couple of blocks from Asilomar State beach. The facility has covered parking for most units. I think the facility was once a condominium complex. It is very quiet. I was surprised at the limited breakfast menu. Most of the Best Westerns that I have stayed at have scrambled eggs/omelets and sausages available. This place does not. You can get soft boiled eggs, yogurt, packets of instant oatmeal, cereal, toast, fruit, and sweet rolls. Also note that you will receive a receipt via email the day you leave. Oddly, the email receipt says it is from "Howard Johnson Express." I thought it was a scam email and I asked the front office staff about it. She said that it used to be a Howard Johnson Express three years ago and the owner needs to change it. Owner needs to take care of this.
converted condo complex equals spacious rooms, full kitchens, vaulted ceilings and large bathrooms front desk staff and manager friendly and accomodating, best of all just far enough away from city but close enough to not be a hassle. You can walk to the beach or borrow a bike and hit the boardwalk. We will be back
We stayed 2 nights for our wedding weekend. The hotel is set in a quiet neighborhood just a few minutes from the beach. It was very relaxing and peaceful. We loved the spacious King Suite with the fire place, very cozy and romantic. The kitchen amenities were great too. only negative thing I could really say about the room was the weird statue they had for a decoration on a very high ledge ( was just kind of creepy). We will definitely come back and stay here again.
My wife and I loved the very clean, modern and open floor-plan of our suite. There was a large kitchen area and spacious master bedroom and sitting area. This hideaway offers luxury in an intimate, non institutional setting in a residential neighborhood. It was very quiet, yet close to everything the area has to offer (Monterey Aquarium, Cannery Row, 17 Mile Drive, etc.). The bed was extremely comfortable. Staff was courteous and very accommodating. We are sure to return.
We stayed a night there. It was a room with King and Queen beds. The room was very clean. It had all the regular amenities. We had a quiet night stay at the hotel. The breakfast was also the standard and the service was excellent.
We stayed here 2 nights and had a great time. Property was clean and safe. Very quiet area. Rooms were clean, comfortable and a great size for 3 people. We had the 2 bedroom suite with one queen bed and one king bed. Nice balcony you could sit on with 2 chairs. Beds and pillows were good. Everyone has their own taste and needs for mattresses. Breakfast was a great variety. All staff answered my questions quickly and very friendly. Check in and check out was a breeze. Would recommend to anyone staying in Pacific Grove.
A lucky find! The owners are the loveliest people. We had a two story condo with full kitchen so, did not even use the breakfast area. Very clean, quiet and while no direct view from our little patio, we could hear and feel the ocean waves at Asilomar state beach just a 5 minute walk away through the Asilomar grounds. Highly recommended, especially for a longer stay or retreat, or just to chill out.
Love this place. Anytime we go to Monterrey or Pacific Groves we never consider staying any place else. Clean, comfortable, friendly and so peaceful. No need to go out to breakfast. They offer waffles, pancakes, eggs, toast, muffins, pastries, cereal, yogurt, fruit and coffee and juice. Right by 17 mile drive. 10 minutes to fishermans wharf. and 10 minutes to canary row.
We were revisiting the area we were married in 45 years ago. "How nice"! We booked a suite for the two day stay. We had loaded some of our luggage into the room when the card key failed. We waited 4 hours (7:30 pm to almost 11:30pm) on a rainy night to receive our luggage in a lesser room. OK... things will happen! We were given the option to call it quits and head back or move to another room for the stay... ok... that was a fair request, but we decided to stay in the lesser room for the remainder of the stay. We had a golf outing planed for the day so everything was settled... wrong! After a fine round at the local municipal course and fine lunch at one of the fine eateries and fun drive down 17 mile drive... we get back to our room to find that it hadn't been serviced and all the staff have left for the day... go figure! don't know what to think!
Very decent double rooms. Close to aslimor beach, 17 mile entrance and to the butterfly sanctuary. Room charge Also includes breakfast - waffle, pancakes, cereal, eggs, coffee etc. parking available very close to your rooms. Room layout very different.
Outstanding service. Last minute reservation - no problem! Quiet, clean, generous accommodations, covered parking option, great breakfast options. Very friendly staff. Close to Asilomar and the village of Pacific Grove. Easy access to beach and downtown Monterey.
We had stayed for previous 3 nights in nearby Monterey, however much prefer the quiet and proximity of the Ocean in Pacific Grove, Already in the area we had the chance to check out what we wanted for next 3 nights, Ralph was very helpful and arranged for us to look at King room and also King suite, we actual chose the King room rather than the suite as we prefer a shower over a bath. We had an excellent stay everything is very well looked after, parking is easy and it is in a beautiful location, we also regard it a very good value for money. But as always best book direct with hotel you will get a better deal by doing so, no matter what on line travel site tell you.
No view of the ocean but the area is very quiet and peaceful and just a short way from the beaches and Cannery Row/Monterey Bay Aquarium. The room was clean and comfortable. The beds were soft. The free breakfast was good. They had a large assortment of pastries, yogurt, cereal, waffles or pancakes. The grounds are pretty. There is a washer/dryer available which was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
We stayed here for three nights, and 2bd, 1bath hotel room we stayed in was perfect for my family and I. They had a lovely Koi pond, and it was great to just have to go downstairs for breakfast. It was a wonderful stay!
We spent one night at this property in a two-room suite. The rooms themselves were quiet and nice and had everything one could need -- almost. However, the pillows were SO springy and uncomfortable that we had trouble sleeping. It seems like Best Western really cut corners in this area. For this reason, we would not stay here again unless we remembered to bring our own pillows. We didn't get to take advantage of the hotel's location near the beach because we were there such a short time, although we did get to the aquarium --about a 10-minute drive-- the next day. (By the way, avoid the Monterey Bay Aquarium between Christmas and New Year's! Incredibly crowded.)
I booked on line with hotels.com so did not speak to anyone to book the rooms. Unfortunately we did not mention that my wife uses a wheel chair and that we needed a ground floor room. When we arrived there was no available ground floor room so we could not stay, but the hotel insisted on charging us anyway. I feel that this was very unfair of the hotel.
I traveled to Pacific Grove for a business trip, the hotel was more then I expected. the rooms are huge, I stayed there myself but I would recommend these rooms to a family or group of people traveling together. Full kitchen with a dining table, BBQ patio, fireplace and so much more room. My stay was only for 2 nights, I wish I could have stayed all week.
Fantastic base to explore Monterey Carmel area. Close to amenities and an easy walk to walking trails and ocean beaches. Quiet neighborhood at night. Rooms were spacious and well presented. The two bedroom suite was unexpected and provide much more space than usual hotel rooms. Very good experience and we will be back soon.
Huge rooms and bathrooms; kids had a two bedroom mansion, we were upstairs in an enormous room. Front desk (Ralph?) the most charming man on the planet (apart from myself, of course); he couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Located real close to Monterey but without the traffic and crowds. Perfect spot and yes, definitely stay here again.
I booked the hotel and crossed my fingers since my friend had never heard of it. It was a pleasant surprise when we opened the door and found an amazing room 117. It was great, a fireplace, a full kitchen, and a comfortable bed. The only thing that happened while we were, we were sound asleep at 8:30am and some maintenance workers decided to do some drilling right under our room. There is a gazebo next to the room and I think they were doing some work on it but it would have been nice if they had waited until at least 9, or even better until when we left.
This was an excellent choice. The rooms, service and overall competence of the staff is well above average for even those hotels with higher rates. The staff is extremely helpful and guided us throughout our stay with helpful directions and suggestions about the Monterey area. We would definitely stay there again.
Have been staying here on and off while remodeling our home in Pebble Beach. Honestly didn't know it existed as it is tucked away in a residential neighborhood minutes from Pebble Beach, Pacific Grove and the ocean. Relatively small property with a condo/townhouse feel. The upper units are very spacious with high ceilings and large bathrooms including a walk in shower. Very nice. Rooms seem very recently remodeled and are done quite tastefully. Staff has been very friendly and efficient. Continental breakfast is better than most. Only downside is that given its location, there are no restaurants, bars or stores nearby. All would be a short car ride or long walk.
Set in the middle of a wooded area only 15 minutes walk to the Pacific Ocean, this is a delightful hotel. Reminds me of a good quality timeshare type place. We booked a two bedroom town house style apartment and the accommodation was spacious and clean. Good strong shower, bath essentials and coffee and tea all in the apartment along with a microwave. Gym available to use. Good and helpful service from the front desk and a complimentary buffet style continental + breakfast. One downside was that the breakfast area was too small for the peak breakfast rush in the morning and it felt very overcrowded. We booked in advance and were rewarded with very competitive rates. Best as always recommendation is that we plan to return in the future.
My husband and I were passing through Pacific Grove and decided to stay here 2 nights after viewing the room, then added an extra night. We stayed in a suite. We loved our king bed, not too hard but firm enough for us. There is a very nice walking path right behind the Inn with the beach a little over a mile away.
When one enters the room and say - we need to come here again - I know I have picked a great place to stay for our one night in Monterey/Pacific Grove/Carmel Area. We were looking for a comfortable place to stay with a fireplace, a nice area to watch the football bowl games on the television, and a nice kitchen area. We found all three in this very nice Best Western in Pacifica. it is very close to Asilomar Conference Grounds in a peaceful neighborhood area. We liked our room. The king size bed by the fireplace was perfect. There is a couch, coffee table, and flat screen TV in a 'living room" type arae. The kitchen is wonderful and complete with cook wear. There is a microwave, but not an oven. Its large. The room we had had a very nice view from the kitchen table area. The outdoor deck and seating area was large and very pleasant. Check-in was delightful. The hotel grounds have koi fish and gazebo. Staff is wonderful. Since we are Best Western premium members, they greeted us with their "blue bag" complementary bag - orange, chips, and water. We had their breakfast in the morning. Since we arrived when lots of others were there too, we opted to take our breakfast back to our room for a leisurely breakfast. We made our own coffee and tea in the kitchen. Its a wonderful place to stay if one wants a peaceful area. Staff was delightful and good. Check in and out was easy. There is a gym on site. There is also bicycle rentals. There are both children and adult bikes. WIFI is free.
Stayed here over the Christmas Holidays at a family room- which the website touted as having two beds. We were under the impression that there would be two rooms- one having a king sized bed and another housing a queen sized bed. What we got is rather strange- the family is really just like a one bedroom suite with the living area cleared to make room for another bed. The family room is also up two flights of stairs. The layout aside, the rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. The hotel is found in a residential area close to Pebble Beach, the 17 mile drive, and the Butterfly Sanctuary. Cannery Row in Monterey is a short ten minute drive. While the hotel is close to all these sights and attractions, the immediate neighborhood of the hotel is basically dead at night. The hotel serves a complimentary continental breakfast onsite and has well equipped gym. All in all, I thought the hotel served our needs and minimum expectations were met- but just that.
We have stayed at this hotel twice, and had good experiences both times. We stay in a king suite, as we have young children and need the fold out couch. We especially love the fireplace, and kitchen with full apartment size refrigerator/freezer and stove. The patio/private deck area is quite enjoyable, as you can hear the ocean from outside of both rooms we have used. There are stairs to access the rooms, and two steps down from the living area to the bedroom (which I fell down at one point when trying to quietly return to bed. Just watch your step!) The continental breakfast is good. It includes fresh fruit, yogurt, boiled eggs, hot oatmeal, fresh made waffles, and the typical pastries, toast, bagels and the like. The kitchen in the room includes dishes, utensils, and cookware, too, making this place great for a longer stay. It is very close to the Asylomar beach, and there are plenty of nearby dining options. It was a 5 to 10 minute drive to Cannery Row and the aquarium, but it's well worth the extra time to take the scenic route down by the ocean. :) There was some noise from other guests on our recent visit, but nothing you wouldn't expect (footsteps and voices as they walked by our door, and footsteps over the kitchen/living areas of our room.) Overall, we really enjoy this facility for our quiet family of 4, and will most likely return.
We've stayed here twice and had very different experiences. The first time was in the spring, and my husband, toddler daughter and I stayed in a lovely 1-bedroom suite with a kitchenette. It was an incredible deal for the price and very quiet. On our recent stay, however, we were less than impressed. We stayed in a 2-bedroom "suite" with my mother-in-law, which turned out to be two conjoined bedrooms with not so much as a sitting area. The bathroom was inside the second bedroom, making middle of the night bathroom trips disruptive. That being said, the room was satisfactory, if a bit awkward. Our main issue was that our room was directly above the reception area. We could hear the conversations down there clearly. Granted, I'm a light sleeper, but my husband sleeps like a rock and also thought it was crazy loud. At 11 pm, my husband and I went down to inform the office staff member and ask for earplugs, which apparently they didn't have. We finally were able to settle down, only to have the alarm in the second bedroom that a previous traveler had apparently left on go off at 12:30 am. Argh! We were then awoken at 6 the next morning with breakfast set-up downstairs. Talk about a disappointing night's sleep, especially with having to get our young daughter back to bed repeatedly. I really don't know what to rate this establishment, with one such stellar experience and one really mediocre one under our belt. I'd stay again in a one-bedroom suite if I was ensured a better location. The property itself is beautiful, reasonably priced for the area, and the complementary breakfast was quite good on both stays. That being said, a poor night's sleep on vacation is pretty inexcusable.
This hotel was unable to process our cancellation which was made weeks earlier directly with the hotel, by phone, the only option, so staff phoned us 11pm Christmas eve to tell us we would be charged for a stay we obviously weren't making. I am quite ill and had two unpleasant conversations with staff who were powerless to offer help, the manager on vacation until the New Year. Booking and cancelling directly with the hotel is extremely problematic. Book some other way and beware.
Very nice place. Quite and maintained. Nice people. very clean and liked the setting. we really enjoyed our stay at this location. This will fill the required requirements for this site. have a great day.
Room was advertised as a bedroom suite. I thought that meant a bedroom in an actual 'room', but it was really the lower portion of a loft...surprise! Kitchenette was nice, but not necessary for my visit. Sitting area/sofa bed area very small. It was OK for business, but I wouldn't recommend it for staying a weekend. Make a different choice, if possible
The room was quiet, clean and sufficiently supplied. The hot water was hot, the cold water cold and not even Donald Trump could whine about the shower water pressure. I would have like the bed to be a little more comfortable, it seemed to be a need for new mattress or perhaps just a new cover to smooth out the lumps, however slept fine once asleep. It was very conveniently located to the beach trail and the Monarch butterfly grove which was my purpose for going. There was no view, but most of everything was within walking distance anyway.
This location is very close to Asilomar where I attended a conference. It is set in a residential area with lots of trees and a walking path that runs behind the hotel. I didn't stay in the room for much, but the service was great and the room was pretty big, with space for a king size bed plus 2 chairs and a desk. There was even a walk-in closet. There was a microwave and fridge in the room too!
We arrived at Best Western in Pacific Grove to find that it is Renovated Condominiums with garages below. We upgraded to a suite at a great price. The room was very clean, had a nice gas fireplace and a full kitchen with a full size refrigerator, stovetop stove, all the trimmings. (dishes, silverware etc.) It was very quiet, comfortable, the bed was great. We would strongly recommend staying here. Our experience meeting Ralph, the owner/manager was delightful. He did everything in his power to make us feel at home. A great place to stay.
Great customer service, comfortable rooms with plenty of space. Large area for dressing, with microwave, larger than normal refrig. The shower stalls are also large and comfortable. The security of the rooms was also good. The rooms has an apartment type feel to them.
The hotel is very quiet. You feel like you live next to a forest or a national park. We really wanted to stay longer but unfortunately can only stay one night. All buildings of the hotel are the same. Previously, they must be townhouses. Each room is different. Some comments don't like this style. But we like our two bed room because it feels like a holiday rental house.
A lovely inn, exactly what you need. Self catering. Beautiful fire place, cozy, special. Friendly and helpful management. Nice clean accommodations, well taken care of. Perfect location and lovely setting.
We stayed here for one night prior to returning to San Francisco but wish we had been able to stay longer. We assume the complex must have been apartments before becoming a hotel. The room we had was huge, on the top floor with a large walk in shower and a utility area. The only downside was that the toilet was in a rather small room which you had to manoeuvre in and out of. The hotel was in a very quiet area and we had a very restful night. The breakfast offering was the usual, nothing fancy but adequate. The hotel is only a short drive to the coast and not that much further to Monteray. It was nice to walk along the coast and see the seals playing in the sea or basking on the rocks. This was the last hotel of our trip and had to rate as one of the top three hotels that we stayed in during our three week road trip. We would certainly stay here again.
The BW in Pacific Grove / Monterey California is a terrific place to stay if you are visiting the Carmel / Monterey area. Its location near Cannery Row and downtown Pacific Grove is excellent. Very convenient to get to around to the Aquarium, shops, and restaurants, as well as Carmel by the Sea which is about 10 min away as well. The room was very large with a separate walk-in closet that had the coffee maker and fridge located in as well. The bathroom and shower were large too, but my main complaint was the water pressure in the shower was not very good (probably a byproduct of California's draught problems). The bed was pretty comfortable, but he pillows were a little stiff. I enjoyed having a balcony -- sitting out in the amazingly fresh air was nice. The wifi speed was good (and free), and the TV/Satellite service was ok (my remote didn't work properly so that was a little annoying, but not a deal breaker by any means). There is a nice little self-serve breakfast area....the food was what I expected - not great, not terrible. But did the trick before setting off for the day. And the parking was plentiful. We had no trouble finding a spot (most are "covered" as well which is nice). Overall I would say for the money that this a nice place to stay and would consider staying there again in the future. Overall I would say this a nice
This is a quiet, well-kept place that is so different than any other hotel at which I've stayed. The double rooms made it more private, and the quiet neighborhood near the beach allowed for peaceful sleep and fast, easy access to fun.
Wow! I think this was one of the nicest Best Westerns we have been to and it exceeded our expectations. We had a King Suite and it was huge ... complete with a fireplace, enormous decks, TV sitting room, eat-in kitchen, decent sized bedroom area and bathroom. Plus, the finishes were quite nice, from flooring to kitchen counter tops. When we first arrived we even spotted a deer outside our deck! These are converted condos, parking was in garages and never an issue, the staff was very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a first floor suite, which as mentioned had a huge deck and overlooked a residential street that was very quiet. We look forward to returning and highly recommend this establishment.
We've staying at several hotels around Monterey and Pacific Grove, but this one is my favorite. We got a nice room with 2 bedrooms, a King bed in one and a Queen bed in the other, perfect for the family. Plenty of free parking, free WiFi, free breakfast, no problem doing early check-in, everything about the weekend went great.
Very clean comfortable . Staff very helpful. Centrally located so easy trip to restaurants, golfing, beach walks, ets. Quiet area so easy sleep - beds very comfortable. I would recommend this hotel to families, friends reunions, couples. Great value for large open rooms. Good breakfast selection.
Hotel and Staff are fabulous, great condo style two bedroom hotel with free covered parking. Updated decor, flat screen tv's in both rooms, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and balcony. Great location close to everything yet tucked away for a peaceful stay. Free breakfast and ability to use computer and printer in business center priceless. thank you!
Excellent place! Friendly staff, nice facilities, good breakfast, reliable internet connection, and proximity to my work venue made this a great location. The rooms were comfortable and bed was excellent. Bathrooms were clean and in working order
I love staying at this location! I've stayed on two separate occasions in two very different rooms. One room was on the top floor and had a vaulted ceiling. The other room was on the bottom floor and was a full suite with a complete kitchen and separate living room area. Both rooms were beautiful, spacious, and comfortable.
Our two bedroom unit was adequate and clean but a little smaller than we had expected and you had to access the second bedroom to get to the bathroom. Ok for a one night stay but could have been tricky for a longer stay. Complementary breakfast was good. Staff could have been friendlier. Well located for whale watching at Monterey - about ten mins drive away.
Although the actual rooms were decent, because there is no AC you must leave the windows open. But you can't because there are no screens. I asked the front desk about this situation and they said they couldn't put in screens until corporate headquarters allowed screens. Absolutely ridiculous. Monterey and Pacific Grove hotels have the affectation that they don't need AC (all the Seaside hotels have AC) because you can just open your windows. Well then, let us open the windows. I don't know anyone who would leave their windows open overnight without screens. This is definitely a deal breaker.
Stayed for 3 nights beginning end of Sept. Nice room with fireplace and kitchenette. The only issue is the number of stairs to get to room. All rooms require going up flight of stairs to get to door, no elevator. This can be difficult with carrying luggage and for someone with any disability. Also, 3 steps going from bed area to rest of room as well as a door stop that sticks out. Makes for a trip hazard when going to restroom at night. It is close to shopping, aquarium and restaurants. If stairs are not a problem for you, then this is a nice place to stay.
Loved the individual units and very quiet location of this hotel in a residential area yet very close to downtown and coast. Front desk was very helpful. Rooms were large, clean and very comfortable. Would definitely recommend.
We stayed one night on a road trip down the Pacific Coastal highway. It is a very nice quiet hotel in a residential neighbourhood. We were a bit concerned that we would be too warm as they were having a heat wave, but as it got darker it cooled off nicely and we were comfortable. The bedroom was large and it had a very large bathroom with lots of counter space. There was another room that had a fridge and microwave and huge area for suitcases. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony with deer wandering down below. We visited the aquarium but wished we had another day to see more of the Pacific Grove, Monterey Carmel area.
Stayed last week at this Best Western. My brother and his wife and myself booked the 2 bedroom without the kitchen since we would be eating out. Room was very clean and no complaints at all about the service. Very quiet and bed was extremely comfortable. Had read the previous good reviews before I decided on this place. Breakfast had lots of choices and don't be swayed by the remarks about the small breakfast room. It is a decent size and besides that if it's crowded when you get there you can go outside and sit at the tables next to the nice koi pond or take it back to your room. Very close to Asilomar Beach and a quick drive to Cannery Row. I liked having the microwave in the room, it came in handy for our dinner leftovers the next morning. Ralph, the manager, was extremely pleasant and after a conversation with him upon leaving I felt he really cared about his guests. Would positively recommend this as a place to stay if you're going to the Monterey area.
No a better place to stay in the Monterey Area! Feel like you could be in a campsite. great scenery and super quiet for some good rest. The rooms are large with all the conveniences you would ever want
Stopped here for overnight stay en route down west coast. A bit isolated, but well worth the find. Very scenic and offered great free breakfast. Rooms lovely. Very unusual and very clean. Would spend more time here on next trip. More than you expect from a Best Western.
We stayed in a two bedroom suite, which was above the office. King bed, and queen bed. Only one bathroom, shower over the bath. Small balcony, which was pleasant to sit on and enjoy a glass of wine. Frig, microwave, and kitchen sink, coffee maker. Ceiling fans, no a/c, but it wasn't needed. We were able to leave the window open to get fresh air. Parking was easy. The lady in the office was most helpful, giving us directions (and a voucher) to the local seafood restaurant which was a 5 minute walk away. We wanted to leave early the next morning, so were the first to breakfast, and it was more than adequate. Liked the boiled eggs. Our only negative was the ceiling fan in the bathroom - it came on when the light was turned on and was very noisy. I mentioned it when we checked out, and we were told it would be looked at and rectified. Free wifi was just ok. Would stay again if in the area.
