We got a great rate, esentially because we called the hotel directly after 5:00 p.m. The room wasn't huge, but certainly big enough for two of us. It's called a suite, but I'd advised against having more than 3 adults in the room. There's a "sitting area" with a separate TV, a writing desk, and pull-out sofa. The staff was courteous and helpful. The place shows its age in small ways, but the benefits outweigh the minor issues by far. Furthermore, it's right on the ocean!

We stayed 1 night to see our son that is stationed in Norfolk. The hotel sits right on the beach with excellent views from the rooms. The room was clean and beds were comfortable. The afternoon and morning desk staff were great! We definitely recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here again.

We are centrally located between several of the bases in the area so visiting military family is very convenient. Plus with being right on the bay with homecomings and deployments, you can see the ships coming/going right behind the building.

We enjoy staying here. Love the view and sound of the waves. Love that they are dog friendly. But, the price charged upon check out was not the price quoted. The clerk that gave us the quote denied the quite despite having documentation. And, 4 days later, the manager still has not returned our calls. We would like to stay there more frequently, but unfortunately the administration ruins the experience.

The breakfast was a slightly better version to the standard BW breakfast. The front desk staff were friendly. The room had a microwave, safe, and a balcony looking over the ocean. A little pricey for one night but you get what you pay for. I'd stay there again.

The hotel over looks the Chesapeake Bay and always has the best view in town. Once checked in, off to the beach for a stroll then its out to dinner or just making something in the room. This hotel is central to pretty much anyplace around in under 30 min. Lots of channels on the TV and really fast WiFi makes this a 5 star for all travelers.

third time is the last try. the room smelled terrible and was not clean. i was surpised because i always expected best western and windom to be great hotels. i would not recomend this place to anyone. i travel for work, now i know which place to avoid unfortuantely

The room was ok. The staff was great and friendly. Complimentary breakfast wa provides and there was direct access to the beach. The location was great, close enough to the downtown area and other landmarks.

We originally asked if we could change our room to the first floor. I just couldn't handle the stairs! The manager had already agreed but said we have an elevator. We couldn't find the elevator! I said we are fine then, he said well do you want to go higher for the view? So he moved us up to the fourth floor. He also personally showed me where the elevator was located. The only thing that could be considered a con was there was an odor in the frig but it still worked and the freezer kept ice cream frozen!

I do remember our conversation about moving to a ground floor, and then talking you into a higher floor...while you can see the bay from all of our balcony rooms, they higher you go the better the view, and it was my privilege to show you where the elevator was located, although it was short, I enjoyed our chat we had while walking to it. I do hope that next time you are heading to our area that you decide to stay with us again.

Can't review the property as when we TRIED to check-in on a confirmed reservation we made by calling the Hotel Front Desk directly at (757) 583-2621, at least one week prior to arrival, the type of room we paid for and reserved - Pet Friendly, King Suite with Ocean View and Balcony, wasn't available! Front Desk, including the Manager (Joe) started giving us all sorts of excuses why the above Suite they confirmed we had reserved, wasn't available, trying blame "Goggle" (once again, I called the Hotel directly for our reservation) and that they never confirm any customer will get a Ocean View Suite with Balcony, when calling the front desk, and especially when making a reservation through Joe, who BTW, I never spoke with him) Meanwhile, there were two other couples that had already tried to check-in before me, that had Reservation Problems as well, with their Room type they also Booked, not being available HORRIBLE HOTEL RESERVATION MANAGEMENT and Front Desk Support! We will be contacting Best Western's Corporate office regarding above

We definitely apologize that there was a mix-up with the room that you were supposed to have, we have been looking into why someone would have quoted you a pet friendly king room with a balcony when we do not have any rooms of that type available. We have our standard two queen pet room, our king junior suite pet room (which does not have a balcony), our standard suite pet rooms, our double queen balcony pet room, and our handicap accessible pet room. After researching your reservation we did discover that it came into our system as being booked through Google, as a two part reservation, one for a double queen balcony pet room, and one for a king junior suite pet room, and we did offer to accommodate you in a room that had two queens and a balcony. We do understand how frustrating it can be when situations like this arise, and are looking into why it happened and working with our Third Party Booking partners to prevent it from happening in the future.

I chose this hotel based on reviews that stated that it was a nice hotel. First of all, it is in a very run down area. The police were across the street on a couple different occasions. The hotel itself has been redone in different areas. Our room had a new paint job and new carpet but the beds were horribly hard. One of the scariest things was the door to the balcony. The door did not latch properly. It looked like someone had a homemade plate for the latch to go into. The balcony door, even when locked, could be pushed partially open. I felt that someone could potentially break in the room through that door. During our stay there was a group of people there who decided to have a huge party. Not sure if all were guests or if one had a room and the rest were just party guests. LOUD AND ANNOYING. Also, all of the party guests decided to use the pool that we paid for. The private beach could have been nice but wasn't due to the fact that no one takes a rake and cleans up the beach to keep it nice for the guests. All kinds of debris. Ocean debris and guest debris. The beach was private and most guests didn't use it. Pool was warm but the railing going down into the pool was very loose. I can't forget to mention breakfast!!!!! The breakfast room is two guest rooms made into a breakfast room. There may be 6 tables. The place is always packed and flies everywhere. Very sparse pickings also. The setup makes it that if someone in line wants waffles everyone else is waiting for the line to move. It takes 2 minutes to make a waffle so the line just gets backed up. The waffle makers should be along another wall so that the line moves quickly. Not thought out very well. The hallways are dark and you just worry about who is around the corner. Also, flooring on hallways, steps, etc needs to be repainted. Looks dirty. Trash cans all look dirty and always overflowing. We asked the girl at the desk for extra towels and she acted like she didn't want to get them for us. She said how many. There were three of us standing there so obviously at least three. She gave us two. My advice is not to stay here. Spend a little extra money and stay right in Virginia Beach. If I had it to do over, I would have spent the extra money for a better hotel and I am sure that the hotel experience would have been a lot better making the whole trip better. My rant is almost over but I can't forget the burrito that was in the parking lot for 2+ days and still there when we left. Please choose a Virginia Beach hotel!

We typically would stay by the Virginia Beach board walk but decided to try out this hotel this time. The property is a little bit more into the bay, has direct beach access, so we were hoping for some good fishing on site. GOOD: - It's right on the beach that you can access any time. It's not too crowded on the beach either - The suite we got has a kitchen, which is nice. However, it's not automatically equipped with kitchen-wares; you'd have to ask the front desk to give them to you. Also you'd have to bring your own plates and cups if you unit has a kitchen (not a big deal but good to know in advance) - The free breakfast is a nice feature. The dining space is a little bit small and it could get a little bit crazy on weekends - The staff seemed nice and helpful. We had an issue with the wifi for the whole entire stay, which the contract IT company was not able to fix, but the front desk fairly gave us a price adjustment at check out CONS: - The room we got was a little bit dated. Carpet is older and had some odor. The AC unit is old and loud. It looks like they are doing some renovation to the whole property so maybe things could be better in the future. - If you're into fishing, this location doesn't seem to be a good spot for on-site fishing, since the water is pretty shallow. Luckily we found a near-by pier, located in a community park, where you can do fishing & crabbing without paying any fee. - Swimming on the beach during this time of the year is hit or miss, depending on the tide. Since this hotel is further into the bay, coupled with the shallow water, the water tend to get really warm around this time of the year. It looks like there could be some red algae that clouds the water a little bit. Overall, the hotel is decent and reasonably priced. The location with beach access is nice for the price.

Not a 5-star hotel, but serves its purpose. The rooms need a bit updating, as well as the exterior, but for the price during peak season, it's a nice place on a private beach. Pool is nice, and overall the rooms are clean. Beds were a little hard for my liking. Jason, the manager, is excellent. Very friendly and helpful, and really makes an effort to go above and beyond. Breakfast was sufficient. Nothing too fancy, but enough.

This is a great place to escape as a relaxing getaway or vacation with your family. The complainers on the reviews are the same people you meet along life's path that are never happy. Free breakfast, how do you complain about great eggs, delicious bacon, sausage gravy,waffles as many as you want, hot delicious coffee, fruit choices and lots more. Whiners complain about a crowed breakfast room. Its because the food is good and the friendly personnel .The pool is beautiful and well kept.Sandy beach is always nice and space for comfort. Variety of room choices and very reasonable rates. Linens have always been fresh and bed very comfortable during our many stays. If you request any needs the staff is at your door right away.We are very frequent guests for many years and will leave you with this thought. Book it & Enjoy!!

I visited here for 4 nights with my family from New York. Last vacation before school starts. Very comfortable. Nice pool and easy beach access to miles of beautiful beach. To my surprise, I booked a suite. We had a separate bedroom with a bathroom and tv, as well as 1 queen bed and a pull out couch and another tv. No arguing over who gets to watch what. Perfect for a family of 4. Our room had a small kitchenette which made it nice not having to spend a lot of money out for food. Close to a lot of shops and restaurants. Friendly front desk employees. Good breakfast, not much but just enough to start your day off right before hitting the pool, beach or just hanging out.

The room I was in which was 219 was HORRIFYING ! The linen is not the cleanest , I broke out in a rash which has never ever happens to me at any best western . House keepers need more work if they don't like they job don't work there.

I recently stayed at the Best Western Plus Holiday Sands Inn & Suites with my preschooler. Our room was great, with a separated living room area and bedroom with a king size bed. The beachfront was very quiet and the pool was clean. I would stay here again.

The two desk agents who worked the night I checked in were awesome!! I really wanted to get their names but never had the opportunity too. I know we bombarded them with a lot of question as we've never been to the area and they were both very patient and understanding. We had a suite and the room was very hot, but the desk cleaned a fan and brought it to us and let us use it our whole stay!! The breakfast was decent, but I definitely recommend going earlier because after about 8:30, it was always packed. I loved the private beach! The pool seemed chilly, but it did rain a lot so I didn't mind much. Before leaving, we approached the GM about a couple of issues we had during our stay. He was very polite, an active listener, and offered wonderful customer service. I couldn't of asked for better hospitality. He did inform us they are currently going under renovations and we definitely plan on coming back after they are done! The only reason I didn't give a 5 is because housekeeping needs some work, but we expressed our concerns and feel confident the new GM will make some good changes!

My daughter and I stayed here last week (Mon-Thur) and just LOVE this place! The location is far away from the frenetic tourist area in Virginia Beach, the dunes are lovely, yet small enough for a short walk to the beach. The waves (wavelets?) are tiny, and perfect for babies and toddlers. I'm 57 as of 2018, but the beach is just no fun if there aren't toddlers and young children to play with! The pool has a beautiful view of the dunes, and we were here right after the dragonflies had matured, and they were swarming above the pool area - AMAZING!!!! SO beautiful!

The hotel was easy to find, parking was good. The view from our room was GREAT. We were on the 5th floor in a suite with 1 king bed and a pull out sofa. The room was super comfortable - even the sofa bed was comfy.

We come here every year for vacation. John and the front desk staff is so kind and helpful. The room has been redone and are clean and fresh. We get to bring our dogs with us. The breakfast is the best. And I love the beach.

So many things to do while visiting!! Swimming and fishing are perfect here. The water is much easier here than Virginia Beach for children. Watching dolphins from the balcony and exploring the many points of interest. The motel is not fancy but affordable and the breakfast is great!!

My family of 5 (children aged 8 and under) stayed here for an entire week. The staff was absolutely amazing and very accommodating. The facility itself is very clean and attractive. The rooms are spacious. The pool area was an 8/10 as it could've been kept a little cleaner though this was mostly due to guests being inconsiderate and leaving their trash behind. The hotel offers private beach access and even offers free beach chairs for its guests. The breakfast was a full one complete with waffles, bacon/ sausage, eggs, hot and cold cereal, pastries, juices, coffee, fruit, etc. We are very much looking forward to returning!

We picked this hotel because they accepted pets. We tried to check in at 3:15pm was told to come back at 4:00pm which I knew they have a guarantee check in at 4:00pm. We understood so we left and came back at 4:00pm, and was told again our room wasn't ready due to the rain. We had to wait almost 2 hours with our dog with no where to go, it was to hot to stay in the car so we had to wait outside the hotel with the wind blowing the rain on us. The front desk worker was so rude to us, I think her name was Kleo. We asked for a oceanview room, but when we got to our room, we could barely see the ocean due to the sand dune in front of us. We was told that we had to stay on the first floor because of our dog; which was never mentioned when we made our reservation in MAY. Speaking of dogs, they are NOT allowed on the beach between 10:00am until 6:00pm, which is hotel policy. The free breakfast was good. We always say if you can walk around barefoot in your hotel room without getting your feet dirty it's a clean hotel , but our feet got dirty we had to wear socks. The beach was not busy though. The housekeepers was nicer than the front desk workers.

No issues for us at all. We stayed in 752 on the tower side and had a King with a kitchenette and balcony. Great view, loved the balcony! Kitchen and cooking supplies had what we needed, we brought some basics (s&p, oil, knives, paper towels, etc), no issues there. Shower had THE BEST water pressure and bathroom and room in general was nice and clean, nice fluffy towels too. The bed was super comfy, I normally have trouble sleeping in hotels but no issues here either. Room seemed a little dated but because of all of the above, who cares! We didn't use the pool but it seemed to stay busy. The beach was awesome, not crowded at all and nice sandy bottom which I loved. Staff very helpful and we Ubered to nearby restaurants for dinner, didn't eat the breakfast provided since we love going to different breakfast places. Nearby places we ate at that were great, Razzo and Captain Groovy's for dinner, Smokey Bones BBq for lunch and Sandfiddler for breakfast. Happy folks over here for time we spent at this BW. PS I looked at places on the Oceanfront and couldn't justify the prices. After seeing pics of the crowds there I wouldn't dream of booking on the Oceanfront as this beach experience is exactly what I'd rather have any day over that madness and at a much lower rate!

We had some issues with rooms but the staff was excellent to remedy issues. The rooms are large and mostly clean. Carpet very wet from storm day before. Also leak in ceiling fan creating a horrible odor. The staff was quick to find us a different room. The staff was great. They rooms were a little rough due to a storm the day before, but ultimately clean and tidy. The price is a little high for the room quality. It was a beachfront hotel, but sheesh the price was high the night we stayed. The breakfast was alright- the attendants tried very hard to keep up with demand. Seemed like everyone was coming in at the same time- very small room for the breakfast option.

The property itself was just "OK". The ocean view we expected ended up being quite ridiculous thanks to the poor room layout. The window overlooking the beach was located in the kitchenette area..so we had to go stand in there to look outside. Also the sun shining in at 6am through crappy white blinds was not amusing. The breakfast room was so crowded and noisy we ended up avoiding it. One if the worst hotel breakfast situations I've encountered. This could all be overlooked... but the noise issue was unbearable. We had a teenage neighbor who made SO much noise... sounded like he was punching walls ir throwing things - we complained at least 2x a day for 3 days and nothing improved. 2 nights in a row, this kid fought with someone - screaming and HITTING - we called the front desk multiple times, threatened to call police, and NO ONE DID ANYTHING. we couldn't sleep for two night bc this psychotic family was yelling and physically assaulting each other and the hotel staff did NOTHING. These people should have been asked to leave... but instead, we were told they were "handling" it. Clearly, they did not. Our daughter ended up in bed witg us every night bc the noises scared her so much. Upon checkout, when I mentioned the noise issue, I was told: "Next time, just tell us!"... We did. We did tell you. Multiple times. Unacceptable. We would have slept better in the car.

Let's start out by saying the good stuff-close to the beach and the beach was never crowded. Breakfast was fine, but often very crowded, they could use more room. The breakfast variety was good and changed daily. Our room was clean, but worn out and old. The bedroom did not have a door on it-strange. The bed was extra hard but the shower was really good. The outside of the motel was dirty and not well kept. The pool area was kind of trashy and sloppy. There was a light inside the pool that was hanging by a dangling wire. The lights never came on in the pool at night, but ugh!! Not safe at all. I realize that hotels can get a lot of money because they are so close to the beach, but come on Best Western, take a little pride in yourself and put some of the money back into the hotel. Your guest will thank you!

We had stayed at the BW in Norfolk last June and thought it was a great place. This year lived up to our memories. On the Chesapeake; very nice pool; breakfast is wonderful; staff is great and Joe DeBeasso (Guest Service Manager) does a superb job with staff and guests. It's beachfront so there's a lot of sand. LOL.

We stayed three nights in this hotel at the end of May. We could tell the hotel was undergoing a renovation, and it seemed the interior of our room had already been renovated. There was renovation work ongoing during our stay, but I don't feel it detracted from our stay at all. The staff was friendly and the location was great for our taste. It is not in a super touristy area so it was quiet and calm. If you like to be in the middle of everything, this may not be the hotel for you. Our room was clean, the breakfast was truly a full breakfast we could start our day with, and we felt we had a great experience for the price we payed.

I have to say I am more than satisfied. Staff is always friendly and willing to . Management is responsive and professional. Rooms are always clean and well kept. Security has not been a problem. Rooms are not paper thin and amazingly quiet. Views of the bay are beautiful. Easy access to clean beach. I highly recommend this location for business or family fun.

Staff was great at check in and check out and also recommended a place to order food from took the time to bring coupons to the room. Room was nice, beds were comfortable,shower had good water pressure, great view of the water also this hotel was very quiet. Only thing negative was the breakfast. The eggs were good and the coffee and juice but the sausage was terrible.

"Nothing "Plus" About These Accomodations"

There is nothing "Plus" about this hotel. In fact, I would give it a negative rating if possible! It does NOT compare to any of the BW "Plus" properties I have stayed in recently. The only thing this hotel has going for it is the front-row seat to the Chesapeake Bay. The hotel's curb appeal needs serious tending - a new paint job, a deep clean of the parking lots and breezeways, a mow around the "dog walk" and new pool / outdoor patio area. The maintenance staff seems to pile all sorts of odds and ends around the property - Clean that up! The hotel's layout is split between a two-story "inn" and a four-story "tower of suites". My room was on the first floor of the tower. The hotel room's interiors are OK with clean sheets and towels. The bathroom is also clean (Thank God). Unfortunately, the furniture and amenities leave little to be desired. Old, chipped, torn and rusting. The laminate floor collects EVERYTHING. Lastly, I am NOT impressed by the customer service shown by staff at this hotel. The receptionists showed little professionalism upon check-in (too busy chatting with each other) and the breakfast attendant looked unkempt. The staff put no pride in working at this property and it shows. I will never stay here again.

I am terribly sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay with us. As you mentioned, we are currently in the process of renovating the property. As you many have noticed, we are currently in the process of painting the exterior of the buildings, and other upgrades to the building. Over the past few months, we have replaced all the carpeting in the rooms, plus flooring in all of our pet friendly rooms, replaced all of our sleeper sofas, and repainted all of our rooms. Still to come this year is finishing the paint on the exterior of the property. Next after our summer season we have plans to replace all the furnishings in the rooms, expand our breakfast area, and completely redo our pool and patio area.

Good sized bedroom with King Sized bed and separate living room with sofa and lamps with a desk area also. Each room had its own large Flat screen LG TV. Room also included a Microwave and refrigerator. Water pressure was great and water was hot. Morning breakfast was very good with plenty to eat. Hotel had a large pool with a very large sunbathing area that included BBQ for cooking and a large private beach for all to use. Didn't get a chance to use the pool or beach, but will the next time I am there again.

The Best Western Plus served the purposed needed of resting at night. The staff is wonderful, friendly and courteous. The rooms though need updating though functional. If you like us just used the room at night then no worries. While I took pictures, I did not stroll the beach area. Pool is open Memorial to Labor Day so we could not use it.

We spent only 2 nights and one day. Place was clean (sanitized remote!!) and good sized (double) we asked for a ground floor b/c of all our luggage. Still had a bit of ocean view over the dunes. We from higher floors must be breathtaking! reception was clean, service fast and good. WIFI worked great, outlets on the little desk and bedstand useful. On check out, they provide a “to go” bag wit water, apple, granola bar. Nice gesture!

It was a great weekend at the beach and we didn't have to drive to it. It was in our back yard. the staff and everyone there were so nice and accomadating. Breakfast was wonderful however the room is too small. And the to go bag on check out was wonderful. Good job.

We used to live in Ocean View - so staying there while visiting was important. The Best Western Holiday Sands was terrific. We had an ocean front room with a balcony. The room had a large plate glass window that gave us a fantastic view of the beach and ocean. At night we could see the lights from the bridge tunnel. The room was spacious, and very clean. The housekeeping staff were very helpful and so kind. Breakfast was really great, and the room was very large. This is an old motel. But it has been updated and is very clean. Planning more trips to the area now that we know a good place to stay. Ask for an oceanfront room with a balcony - you will not be sorry. The wifi worked great. The bath products were superior - I love the lemony smell. Towels were very nice.

The location sold this hotel choice to me. It is right on Chesapeake Bay. My room and balcony had a full, unobstructed view. The pool and patio below me had direct access to the beach. Only residential buildings (single family, apartments, condos) to the left and right. No commercial, including restaurants, in the immediate vicinity. A busy road, but I heard the waves, not the traffic. This is an older hotel, but I had a clean room with a very comfortable bed, microwave, refrigerator, dated but clean bathroom with plenty of hot water and good water pressure. The usual food in a breakfast room. A busy crew was here early in the season repairing damage from winter on a seafront and apparently about to repaint the whole building. General renovation and upgrading are also said to be underway. I did not want to be in a downtown hotel when I had the opportunity to be near the beach. This hotel was so well-located that I could get to downtown Norfolk and VA Beach very easily. I think this modest hotel in a very good beach location was a real find, and I will be back.

My wife and I had previously booked this hotel for a 5-day stay back in December 2014. At that time we got a great rate by booking through a discount website, but the trade-off was a tiny room at a time of year when the weather tends to be nasty. This more recent 11-day stay in April 2018 was also booked through a discount website, and although the rate was twice as much, the room was much better -- in fact, a 2-room suite with king-size bed, 2 TVs, 2 heating/cooling units, a substantial desk, and a hide-a-bed. Evidently, the hotel is in process of renovating many of the rooms and converting them to similar suites. (We learned that our 2014 room has now been converted to storage space!) The personnel (front desk, cleaning crew, and breakfast area) are all very friendly and accommodating. The complimentary hot breakfast has variety and abundance. Although the dining space is a bit cramped, especially on weekends in warmer weather, the hotel apparently has plans to expand it. (It will be interesting to see how they can pull that off while continuing to make the space available to guests.) The hotel has a fitness center with appropriate equipment, but for people like us who prefer fresh air and sunshine, both the beach and sidewalks are good for long walks or jogs. (The Pinewell neighborhood next to the Ocean View Golf Course is a great place to walk/jog, especially in spring.) Our only real complaint is noise: noisy weekend guests and an unexpected amount of road noise. (Even though the road has a closely observed speed limit of 35mph, something about the shape of the hotel seems to amplify the noise of passing vehicles.) We dealt with the noise by keeping the fan on. Also, the exhaust fan in the bathroom was ineffective and left the mirrors too fogged for shaving even after short showers. On the whole, though, we had a very pleasant stay and will certainly stay there again if we can get comparable rates.

Our check-in went very smoothly and we checked-in early so We could get to the Virginia Arts Festival. The manager was Pleasantville And gave us some names of local restaurants. Our suite was clean and Laid out nicely for 2 couples to share. There were separate rooms with 1 bathroom and a kitchenette. There was a nice patio and just a few steps to the beach. Breakfast was included and there was a nice selection of food.

The Best Western Hotel in Norfolk is a wonderful place to stay. The location is amazing and the service is excellent. I would highly recommend this hotel. Stayed here for 2 nights. Location is great but does not look like a typical BW. It looked like a motel that BW bought and slapped their sign on. Beds were like sleeping on bricks. Tub did not drain-water was over your ankles in minutes and this is with the drain plug completely removed. When someone closes the door to their room, everyone nearby hears it. Room had an odd smell to it. Toilet sounded like a jet engine when flushed. Location and desk staff were the best things about it.

The guy working at the front desk implied that I was a prostitute simply because I was alone and had a local address. He even called my room a few minutes after I checked in. I left and asked for a refund but couldn't get one since I booked through Priceline. Shady business, I do not recommend!

Had a great stay here. Clean rooms, located well and the staff was exceptional. Beautiful view! Very accommodating with our preferences for view and an unexpected early departure. The room had a defective bed with a pipe protruding that gave me a horrible gash which I now have to seek medical help for. The maid covered the defective piece with the dust ruffle so you could not see the piece but it was a long piece that clearly was sticking out an extra foot from the edge if the box spring.

I really enjoyed this hotel. (I booked through a 3rd party and my main concern was to be in the airport area during my stay) Upon my arrival I was a a little grumpy from a 6 hour drive. The Hotel receptionist that signed me in was extremely polite plus she signed me up for their rewards program. I was not expecting a full kitchen, an additional bedroom, sleep sofa nor an Ocean View!!!!! I was soo excited and relaxed at the same time...After Christmas with my family ..I stole the final night for myself to relax at the hotel and enjoy the Ocean view...Best vacation ever... Breakfast was great tooo..Bacon or sausage..eggs..home made waffles..fruit..cereal hot or cold..& soooo much more Thank you for your Hospitality!!!!!!

We visit this Best Western at least once a year, some years twice. Very close to beaches, bases, and all types of food. Access to and from interstate highway is very easy. The breakfast here is also very tasty and filling. Highly Recommend this Best Western.

I have been going hear for 30 years first visit was with my wife and kids when they were infants now there grown and have there own now me and my wife travel now with our dogs lots of memories hear for us but since we only travel with our 2 dogs now they say there pet friendly but they can only go out to the bath room and that's it they are not allowed anywhere else on the property I don't consider this place pet friendly at all so if your traveling with pets don't stay hear .

While we are a dog friendly hotel, and we love to see our guests with their furry travel companions, we do have some places such as our breakfast room and direct pool area where health codes prevent pets from accessing. Also area such as the beach which has time restraints are regulated by the city and not by us. We do ask that in other area dogs remain on a leash, and be mindful of guests who may have a fear of dogs, so that all of our guests, pet owners and non pet owners can enjoy their stay.

Our first day, we enjoyed watching a pod of dolphins swim by. Loved waking up and looking out at the water. The entire hotel hotel staff was very friendly and make us feel very welcome. We have stayed at this location about 7 times - always over the Thanksgiving weekend. The buildings are in the process of being renovated and updated. By summer, theyshoud be awesome!

I chose this hotel for my wedding night because of its location on the beach. Driving up on the street side was a little underwhelming for my new bride, but that all changed when we walked into the room. The king sized bed in the suite was very comfortable and the view from the balcony was amazing. We were able to watch the sunrise over the Chesapeake Bay with dolphins swimming by. Our choice of a romantic walk on the beach was a perfect way to wind down from the wedding. Thank you and your staff for making our first night as a married couple so very special.

Checked in to an ocean view room for 2 nights. It may have faced the ocean, but there was no window. When we opened the door, the musty smell hit us in the face. Changed rooms. It did have a beautiful ocean view with a lovely beach but again smelled nasty and was very old and not well kept. We did not stay there.

The rooms are outdated when it comes to their carpet and furniture. The rooms were clean. I had the manager apartment room so it had two bedrooms, with a living room and kitchen. I liked the space but the room decor made it unpleasant. The front desk staff didn't really go out of their way to make our stay special. I requested a noon checkout but the front desk woman gave an attitude with a no and wouldn't give an explanation.

Location was very convienent. Room felt damp and had a pungent musty odor. Decor was old and threadbare. Lighting throughout was harsh. Air contidioner was extremely loud and woke me throughout the night. There were no incidents, but the layout of the buildings make for a desolate entry to your room at night... not sure what the surveillance is assure safety and security.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone. We always stay here if we are traveling to this area. The staff is accommodating, the breakfast is delicious and generous, everything in the room works efficiently. We particularly enjoy the balcony so that we can see the ocean. Even though the weather was not good this time, we still enjoyed viewing the outdoors.

The hotel is the same price as many more upscale hotels in the area but falls well short of the standard. We stayed there because they were pet friendly but we will be going elsewhere next time. The room did not feel clean, there was something slippery on the shower floor that had not been cleaned, I don't believe the bed runner and top linens had been washed. It felt musky and yuck in the room. Most staff were kind but a gentleman in management was not accomodating at all.

Good room, room could have been cleaner with attention to detail on vacuuming. Parking lot needs to cleaner, Very nice and friendly people here. You have a bay and ocean view. The room was clean and neat. We were there for 3 nights and they only came to make up the room once. The towels were replenished but the beds were left unmade. The room faced a parking lot and overlooked the garbage cans, which they picked up on Monday morning at 4:45 am with the beepers on and lights flashing. We stayed in a suite with a small kitchen and 2 bedrooms. There were no utensils/ pans or plates so the kitchen was useless except the refrigerator.

The BW Holiday Sands Inn is at an excellent place(shore line) and wonderful check-in staff but the overall sense of the "Tower" and room looked warn out and in need a some new paint on walkways and walls. The room had an excellent overlook of the shore line but several small problems like a desk light acting like it had a short and the tub drain plug needing to be held open by a waded up wash rag. A little paint and updating of rooms could mean an excellent rating.

when you call for reservation they tell you one price and when you check out its another but that time your gone and see it on your credit card. Call speak to manager and his answer is it changes every day. BEWARE ASK DAILY WHAT THERE PRECIES are next day will be $50.00 higher and this was Wednesday and Thursday not even the weekend. Beach was nice, breckfast was good. Old needs lots of repairs, Dirty.

As with many hotels, our nightly rates are not stagnant (meaning we don't set our prices at one price and that is the price every night) so it is not uncommon to stay 3 nights and the rate be different for all three nights, and prices can change daily (if someone check a rate one day, it may be different if they check it the next). However, once someone book their reservation, the rate is locked in from what it is when they booked and does not change unless someone request a change to their reservation such as adding an extra day or changing rooms to a more expensive room type. We try our best to make sure there are no surprises to our guests in this area, and with every booking we ask all of our guests for their email address so we can email them a booking confirmation that shows what the rate and taxes are for each night or their stay.

The girl at check in was amazing, the bed and pillows were super comfortable and clean, the room and pool were spotless. The neighborhood was a little scary but they seem to be doing a lot of new construction. Hopefully this will bring in more beach rentals and less "undesirables"

Pluses: this place is right on the beach, although many miles north of the active "Virginia Beach" area. Minuses is that it is on a busy road with nothing nearby. It's a worn hotel but a good place if you intend to spend your entire vacation on the beach BUT make sure that you get a room facing the beach. Other rooms are depressing.

I would be very wary of staying at this hotel, they do not change the sheets for every new guest, We traveled with our family and i noticed sand in my bed and asked for it to be changed, they said that they don't have any available sheets and gave me one flat sheet, I didn't notice that the kids bed was dirty, but it apparently was too, our two kids go some sort of boils, the next day, I am very upset and grossed out, will NEVER stay at a Best Western again.

Our stay here was absolutely pleasurable. The staff was friendly and our room was awesome. We had an Ocean View/Balcony room and it was divine to open the balcony door in the morning and hear the rushing waves of the ocean. The water pressure in the shower was AMAZING!! The breakfast area was a bit small for the size of the hotel, but overall we loved our stay. I would definitely stay here again.

We stay here for a few days in Aug 2017 (2 adults, 2 kids). We had two queen beds suite - it's a huge nice room with ocean view, very recomended. As per my understanding other rooms are different. I was very impressed from the manger of the hotel - she is great person. Children were exited to recieve small presents upon check out. Location is the best - huge beatiful and clean beach - only few meters from the room. Pool is not heated - this is the only one minus I can notice, but in the sunny day it's not a problem.

Our second visit to this property. Right on the bay so you can walk from the pool to the beach, extremely per friendly and as a bonus it has a dog run which is great for early AM and late PM walks. Breakfast provided daily. Very close to some great dining options and near all the major military bases and a 10 minute drive to VA Beach. Would visit again.

When we need a little beach getaway with the kids and dogs, this is our favorite spot! Their outdoor swimming pool and waterfront location is great. We wake up and take our dogs for a walk on the beach to watch a gorgeous sunrise. There are not a lot of waves, so the kids and dogs can enjoy a relaxing dip in the bay. The staff is fantastic and always go out of their way to make us feel at home!

First, let me say the staff, at every interaction were exceptional! Unfortunately, that is where outstanding stopped. We were in the newer hi-rise section. As such, we were expecting refurbished "newer" decor, it was not. The beds were comfortable and the balconies a nice asset to the room. However, it rained on the second night of our stay. In the morning the floor was soaked; literally when you stepped on the floor, water puddled over our feet. After the shock of wet, cold feet, we looked for the cause, as both the door and windows were closed. Water came in arou d the seals of both the window and door. Upon telling the front desk, their response was "that happens when it rains".. No, just No! The beach was nice, but nothing is close to eat at. All in all, I would not stay again.

I had a great time at this hotel however, there were a couple issues that didn't sit well with me. First of all, check in time is supposed to be at 4 but I waited until 4:30. The staff didn't seem to be alarmed by the fact that our room wasn't ready on time which is a red flag to me. Upon entering our room, we discovered that the entire floor in front of our bathroom was soaking wet. I knew it was from the air conditioner above so I adjusted the temperature and didn't worry too much about it at the time hoping it would stop. When we woke up the next morning, it had not stopped. We also discovered the TV wasn't working. I contacted the front desk who said they would send someone but never did. We waited a couple hours with no luck. By this time it was after 3pm & our room still had not been serviced. We called the front desk again to remind them about the leak, the TV and to request towels and they acted as if we were asking them for a huge favor. They actually acted bothered by my request. I will say after the second call, a nice maintenence guy named Youree came almost immediately to take a look at the leak and the TV. Unfortunately the leak wasn't something that could be fixed right away but Youree put down towels and brought a fan in an attempt to dry the carpet. He was able to fix the TV however. We expressed how housekeeping still had not serviced our room so he took it upon himself to fufill our request for more towels. He came back several times during our stay to check on the leak & carpet. Although the leak was never fixed during our stay, I was very satisfied with Youree's concern. I could never say he didn't try to fix the issue because he did try to the best of his ability. I'm pretty sure he said something to housekeeping about not servicing our room that first day as well because they came every day after we brought it to his attention. Aside from our issues, I loved our room. We had a 2 queen bed suite. It was exactly what we needed and surprisingly, very spacious. The pool is nice and the outside deck in the back is great. My friends and I sat out there several times during our stay. I enjoyed the free breakfast as well however, they don't have enough seating in the breakfast area which was annoying. 2/3 days we were there, we had no where to sit. Overall, this is a nice hotel. It would've been nicer if we didn't have so many problems during our stay. If it weren't for Youree and his help, our stay would've been ruined. This guy is great & honestly deserves a raise for all the hard work he puts in at this property.

My wife was approached by a weirdo as she went to the pool. Anybody can approach unaccompanied women. It is not in a safe looking area. They give you a pass for your car, but anyone can walk in. Not a place I felt safe in.

We recently returned from a 3 -night stay at this Best Western. I was very happy with the location and staff. Ebonie (I am sorry, I know I have spelled her name incorrectly) was very efficient at our check-in and we experienced no problems during our stay. We were fortunate enough to have a balcony room in the, what appears to be, newer building. I was apprehensive at first when making a reservation because I had called the hotel directly for some information on the web page saying the first night is due at the time the reservation is made and also the cancellation policy. The female I spoke with had absolutely no clue what I was talking about and did give us the wrong information. We were not charged the first night even though when making the reservation, it said we would be and also, you can cancel prior to the cancellation date and get a refund if, in fact you are charged. I called the 800 number and they were able to help me and give me the correct information. Breakfast was very nice in the am, there was a couple hot items along with the waffle maker. All staff were more than helpful. Rooms were very clean and housekeeping took care of all our needs. We will absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone coming to the area.

My friend and I were visiting a niece and we needed a place that was pet friendly and close to her. The motel fit the bill. We had a room with a real kitchen, right on the beach. Our stay included good, free WIFI, a great breakfast with just about anything you might want and a good night sleep. We didn't use the pool but it was clean and lots of places to hang out and enjoy the water. Our room was clean and the kitchen well equipped. All that said, the place could use a bit of sprucing up. The best part was the staff. Everyone was friendly, very helpful and considerate. Karen at the front desk was accommodating and interested in ensuring we had everything we needed. We were five minutes from my niece's so it was an ideal location.

Our hotel room was mediocre at best: it smelled musty, the baseboard was broken and it was very no-frills, but at least it was clean. Breakfast area was extremely crowded. What we enjoyed was the view of the bay, the beach access and the pool overlooking the bay. It's motel-style and a blue-collar kind of place, but it suited our needs.

The hotel had great beach access and not overly saturated so we were able to really enjoy the beach. The staff were very friendly and had good customer service. We stayed in the 2 bd rm suite, however, only the front room had air, the 2nd bd rm had a ceiling fan but it was still pretty hot in that room. The breakfast was just mediocre but they did offered a variety of typical hotel food. The room had a full kitchen which I initially thought was a plus until I started seeing roaches which ultimately made me have no desire to utilize the kitchen, eat or even stay in this room. I travel a lot and have no problem paying for what I want as I like to be comfortable. I expected to pay more for the room because of it's location to the beach. I do however have a problem with not being able to relax and having the thought of taking roaches home that I did not bring with me. I ultimately checked out and reported the roach situation to the front desk clerk who was very apologetic and advised she would take care of it right away. She also offered a discount on the room. Although the location to the beach was great, the roaches were a deal breaker for me.

I stayed here at for the entire month of July while on military orders, and I'm glad I chose this hotel. From my experience, the staff was friendly. I had one pay issue on my fault and they were able to work with me on that. The room was always clean, and the room had a great view of the ocean. You can literally walk right up to the ocean from the hotel, which is nice too. I would gladly stay there again when visiting Norfolk. I know some prior complaints were about outdated rooms, however I saw them renovating rooms during the entire month of July, so not sure if that would still be an issue.

Check out was very cold and rude from the employee in charge (Mike). He is kind of want to check out ppl without even asking about their experience. When we asked for check out @ 12 he arrogantly rejected and when i asked for details invoice he said i should get it from wherever we booked from. Pool, it has no policy specially when it comes to ppl going in the pool with full cloth on and underwear. when i complained, i was told "what do you want me to do" so i asked them you should escalate to the hotel in charge and go talk to the family and tell them this is not appropriate. However nothing happened.

We were able to check in early It was raining when we checked in.. our vacation plans were a wash out. We went shopping and went out to eat and did get to play on the beach for a short time.It rained for 2 days we enjoyed our stay at Best Western. The Breakfast Buffet was delicious and had a good variety of Breakfast food. Ocean View has a lot to offer on a rainy day. The nearby library has the Ocean View Museum We enjoyed that. We also went to the mall. It was a still a great vacation ...with all my children anyway.....

Pros: *On the Beach. Beach is away from most tourist, so it was not over crowed and the waves were calm. *Nice size rooms with perfect lay out for families *Very friendly staff Cons: *Understaffed Housekeeping. Housekeeping didn't come to our room until we asked for the manager half way through our stay. (Manager never called us back) *Although the rooms come with a full kitchen, they are not supplied due to recent DOH regulations. The pots and pans need to be checked out at the front desk, but the pots were non stick and rusted and therefore unusable. Hotel is good for a short visit but too outdated and understaffed for us to rebook for another week long vacation.

The staff in the office as well as the cleaning and kitchen staff were all very friendly and courteous. The pool was a little warm but then it was upwards of high 90's when we were there. The room was clean. There was a second bedroom but could not get the AC to work during our stay until the morning of check out found a control that controlled the AC separate from the main area. Left them a note stating this should be mentioned someplace in the room.

Book with Priceline for July 23-July 25. Priceline screwed up the reservation. Karen and Tashina were extremely professional and kind when trying to get us checked in. They are truly amazing. Chelsea also helped with an issue unrelated to the hotel. All of the staff are so professional and extremely kind and caring. The hotel is older but the room was clean and didn't have that funky smell some hotels have. They are doing updates to the rooms. My dogs enjoyed the night walks on the beach. My nephew loved the pool. The breakfasts are amazing. Waffles, eggs prepared differently each morning. They change what meats each morning. So one morning might be sausage and the next might be bacon. They have cereal, oatmeal, muffins, bagels, juice, hot chocolate and coffee.

This beach is more secluded from the "main drag" and the waves are gentle- great option if you want to get away from the crowds and hustle of Virginia Beach oceanfront. We loved that it was so clean and beautiful at the beach without the massive crowds. Clean, nicely maintained pool with a beautiful deck area that opens right out to the beach. They do have oceanview rooms available. Be aware that the balconies to these rooms do have the A/C unit for the room in the same space so there is going to be hot air from the A/C unit blowing right onto the chairs on the balcony. Staff were friendly and helpful, room was clean and comfortable.

This hotel should be closed for renovation. At least the section I was in. The room was musty. The carpet was raggedy. The smell could not be eliminated. You should not have to pay to stay in a hotel that has construction waking you up first thing in the AM.

We had a very nice time here. The beach that is just moments away is very beautiful. My children loved it. We swam with the dolphins. The shower had plenty of hot water for 6 people. The rooms were clean and they gave plenty of extras without any hassles.

We came to Norfolk for a wedding and then spend some days at the beach, Williamsburg, and the Delmarva Peninsula. Though the motel is older the units were good condition and the staff very friendly and helpful. I would strongly recommend the Best Western Plus Holiday Sands Inn. It is a good value compared to any other property in the vicinity.

The location was great and would advise you take your own bike so you can get everywhere you would want to go. The breakfast area needs to be ventilated much better, our clothes smelled horrible everytime we left breakfast. We got two double beds because that was all that was left and the beds were sunk in in the middle so we couldn't sleep in bed together or we would sink in the middle. Hotel is very clean and updated nicely. The soap and shampoo dispensers in shower area were great. The pool area needs updated and green stuff under rim of pool needs cleaned off, was otherwise refreshing the one time we got in the pool.

I just returned from a short beach vacation with my friend. This hotel was perfect for us! The beach was right behind it with 24 hour beach access! The staff were all wonderful, very friendly and helpful. The free breakfast was absolutely delicious! The women in the breakfast dining area were so kind and welcoming and were working hard to keep it as clean as possible. Our only issues were not with the hotel itself but with the other guests who seemed to come and go very loudly at all times of the day and night. Nothing we felt needed to be complained about though. Also, this isn't really a tourist town so if you're looking for that feel, this area isn't for you. If you're looking for a nice, clean, cheap place close to the beach, this is a great choice! We would definitely stay here again!

This hotel is right by the Chesapeake Bay. You just walk through the dune and there is a clean, quiet beach. It is a cheaper and more secluded option than the busy beachfront resort area. Only 30 minute drive to va beach. The hotel was clean and the staff was helpful and pleasent. We will be staying here again. They also have a good discount for military/government employees.

This is a great location for families. It's right on the beach and the water is shallow and does not have any waves so it's perfect for younger children. There's no boardwalk or crowds. We love coming here but our main issue every time we come is the housekeeping. This time the rooms were clean except the floors seem to never be vacuumed. The first room we were given had black dirt or charcoal all over the carpet and the bottom of our feet and socks were completely black. The next room we got didn't have visible dirt on the carpet but our feet and socks got almost as dirty. Whenever we passed the housekeeping staff there was never any evidence of vacuum cleaners being used, just brooms and mops. So I would not recommend this hotel for a family with toddlers that are going to be crawling around the floor.

My group went to this hotel for a sad occasion (memorial service for a dear friend's son). The Best Western Holiday Sands staff is the best! They took great care of us, and our experience was way beyond what we could have expected. While the staff is the best part, the location, on the beach in Norfolk, is also excellent, and the accommodations (lodging and food) are also great, Even our housekeeper, Cassandra, got involved in helping us get through our sad experience. I'd love to go back here for a vacation. Recommend most highly!

The staff at this Best Western are the best. The hotel is well situated on the beautiful Chesapeake Bay with wonderful sand beaches. The rooms provide everything needed for a nice stay. Stove, microwave, frig, and the office will provide pans, etc. Breakfast is really spot on.

This hotel was very nice for our group looking to have fun at the beach while on a budget. The room was quite comfortable and having the kitchenette saved us tons of money on food. A hot breakfast was served every morning and the food was actually quite good. There was a selection that could please just about any person. Checking in and out was quick and easy with knowledgeable staff willing to do what they could to make our stay enjoyable. We also loved having the guest laundry where we could wash our clothes. It was inexpensive as well. I love this place and look forward to returning in the future.

We arrived 4 hours before check in time. Receptionist called housekeeping and our room was done so they checked us in early. Room had plenty of room for 2 adults and 3 children. The kitchen was not equipped anything to eat with or on!! The shower also did not drain properly! Other than these few things it is located right on the beach and breakfast was good! Staff is very friendly! Would stay again!

Wonderful and friendly staff who are always happy to say Hello! Front desk support will help in anyway they can. Plan to go somewhere else for breakfast. The food is mediocre at best. Regarding ammenities, the pool is great and it is fantastic having a clean dog park where he pooch can be walked and do his duty.

Beautiful views from pool and beach access is great. Our room was filthy, the carpet was gross. I felt dirty after staying there. The only thing that made it worth it was our view, the pool, and beach. Breakfast was nice as well.

We love this "Best Western", stay there quite often when we're heading south & north . This time we had more time so stayed there 2 nights going south and 3 nights going north. There are many interesting things to do in the area including aquarium,science center,museums & naval related tours.

The location could not have been better and the staff was very friendly and helpful. You step off the patio and onto a very quiet beach. Perfect spot for a couples or family escape. Watch the sunrise and sunset from the patio, beach or your own private balcony. We will be back!

Hotel was dirty. The room had cuts and holes in the couch. The room smelled stale. Went to get extra towels and they didn't have enough. Creepy neighbor would just sand outside our door and stare at us each time we left the building.

We were made to feel welcome from the moment we walked into the lobby. Staff went out or there way to make us happy. The view and the room were the bomb! Although it was windy and cold we were able to enjoy the balcony and the view from out bed. Well worth the money!

Horrible experience. The room smelled, the front door to the room was broken, shower drain was broken. For the price of the room, I was highly disappointed! I travel frequently and this was an embarrassment. Could not wait to leave.

HVAC unit was very loud, sounded like a small Diesel engine. Hotel is fairly old and could use a renovation. Location is very nice, as it it right on the beach, and compared to other hotel in VA beach, this was much less expensive.

Hotel was old and rundown, noise was a problem throughout the night. Breakfast was marginal. Beach access convenient. Rooms were old but functional, could use a refresh. No restaurants close by. Convenience stores within walking distance.

We checked in and had issues with that. Front staff not friendly, except Carissa or Clarissa. Got to our room, had a bad smell in the room. Air did not work in the second bedroom in the queen suite room. Maintenance guy was high when he came to fix it that night and never did fix it, said he would be back and never came back. The day maintenance gentleman/manager was a gem and figured it out within 10 minutes. I had the wrong remote and it still did not cool down the room like it should have. We had a large group....I would say about 50-75 people and everyone of them had issues with their rooms with something not working. One of them found a roach in her kitchenette! Major maintenance things, like stripping the paint off the concrete should have been done in the off season. Pros: Good location, quiet, breakfast workers were pleasant, breakfast was good and had a variety. They supplied beach towels and supposedly beach chairs, did not see any.

We absolutely loved the location of the hotel which was right on the beach and was fantastic. We were made very welcome on arrival and our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Breakfast offered a good choice with hot and cold buffet available - great start to the day. Staff were very friendly and helpful, Free wifi in the room was great. Large car parking facilities available next to the hotel and voucher required to be placed in the car at all times. Would definitely stay at this hotel again and would recommend it.

I was staying at the Best Western in Norfolk, VA. I had an amazing experience. When we arrived everyone was very friendly and helpful. Check in took less than 3 minutes! Compared to waits at other hotels. Once we got to our room and unpacked we took a look around and the decor was very updated! The room itself was spotless clean. We had forgot some of our toiletry items and the hotel actually provided us with them complimentary which was surprising! The pool was very clean and just made the trip even more amazing. Waking up the next morning was super easy considering we had breakfast waiting for us down stairs. They had a wide selection of items to eat and drink. Get a balcony room it is so worth it! The only thing that I wish they had was a hot tub! Overall amazing!

I booked a room for my wife and two dogs for a visit with my daughter. I read the pet policy and we were fully compliant. When we arrived at 7:30ish pm, they stated that our reservation didn't mention pets, so they didn't have a pet friendly room for us. They had rooms but basically told us, that we were totally out of luck and have a nice night (elsewhere). I argued that I selected a pet friendly hotel on the BW website and they popped up, that in itself should have flagged my reservation. They were clueless and also couldn't tell me how I should have represented that I was traveling with dogs . After 20 minutes of back and forth and mindless responses, another guest came in and heard the dialogue. She "solved my problem" because she was "so out of there"... For reasons separate from the hotel, she was leaving the hotel. However, regardless that we were taking her room, they charged her for the night plus myself. Really!!!!!! After all this was sorted out, (being paid twice for the room), they agreed to us taking the room. They wanted 5 minutes to tidy up, but took 1 1/2 hours. We finally got the room around 10 pm. Room wasn't bad, however, not the king I reserved. Clean and well kept. Great shower. Has a dog walk area, easy access to the beach, too cold for the pool. Free Breakfast was decent... Things missing, a functional website, a staff that is empowered to make their own decisions and use common sense. The simplest of issues and the rating of this review could have been better, with a few dollars for web site improvements and/or empowering their staff. Suggest that "if" you are staying with a dog, call them to ensure they acknowledge you have a dog.

This hotel is right on the beach. We enjoyed a beach walk in the rain shortly after we arrived. It's also convenient to the airport. The breakfast was OK. The internet connection was fast and reliable. I booked a Friday night stay, and the rate was nearly triple the Thursday night rate. So I found it relatively expensive given how dark and dingy my room was.

Location is really nice and although next to a major road, relatively quiet. We stayed here last year so thought it would be nice to visit again. First the good: the staff are extremely helpful, King, and prompt in their response to concerns. The two ladies running the morning brunch are always cheerful with a greeting for everyone walking in the door. Now, I must be honest. We are in a "suite" with two double queen beds and a small kitchen. Although we are not cooking any meals, we're wondering how anyone could since there are absolutely no dishes, silverware, pots, pans, anything! The cupboards are bare. There's an a/c in both rooms, but the one in the bedroom does not work. I took a look at the filters and I truly don't think they had every been cleaned. There was at least 2 cm of dust on them. The maintenance man was very quick to clean them when I reported this, but the a/c still did not work. We were told they'd have a specialist come in, but if they have, it still hasn't fixed the problem. The sofa also does not look as if it has ever been cleaned, nor the carpet. I'm sure it's been vacuumed, but not deep cleaned. Beds are relatively comfortable. We didn't have a do not disturb sign for the door. All in all, we will most likely NOT return here next year when we come to visit family.

We have stayed at Best Western Plus hotels before and they have been excellent. This place is like a run down motel. Needs to be totally updated. It was clean and the desk staff were pleasant and helpful and it is right on the beach. The breakfast was also disappointing.

The Best Western Holiday Sands Inn & Suites is a well-appointed hotel on the shore of Chesapeake Bay. Most rooms have a water view, and have all the usual amenities. My room had a small balcony with a view of the bay. It featured a coffee make, small fridge, and microwave. In the morning they have a fairly good breakfast buffet, although the seating area is somewhat limited. My only complaint was that there was no place to eat within walking distance.

After seeing other reviews, I chose this bw because of the location on the beach and it was the closest bw to an event I attended at the Scope (25 min.). I am a Rewards member and have stayed at numerous other bws. The staff was friendly and professional but it was obvious that the hotel was old and was recently acquired by bw. Some of the grounds had been updated and painted but other areas were dirty, rusty (salt air) and dated. We stayed in the five story tower. The room had a kitchenette and was adequate. The carpet, furniture and bed appeared newer but the walls were dirty and the fit and finish of the tile and bathroom area was below bw standards. We found several small insects in the window curtain when we moved it. The breakfast had the good quality and variety and the staff was very helpful and friendly. With the price being around $130 it is not bad if you want to be on the beach but I hope bw gets to work on renovations.

We stayed one night for a family event nearby. I chose a 5th floor room to enjoy the view despite only being in the room overnight. The view is nice and the bay breeze was worth the extra few dollars. The hotel is older and the rooms are dated but I saw no cleanliness issues other reviewers have cited. The bathroom is teeny. It's too bad the doors to the balcony don't stay open because it would have been great to sleep to the fresh air and breeze. Despite that, I had the best night sleep on a very comfortable bed. The staff at the front desk were exceptional. The men employees watched me struggle with the door trying to return the cart. Plus the cart had a bum tire.

Stay was great and the staff was wonderful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone I know that are going to the Virginia Beach or Norfolk area. The hotel is conviently located and easily accessible from the interstate and also to the Naval Base. There wasn't traffic congestion coming or going to the hotel.

What started out to be a one-night stay turned into a week. Karen and her staff are great people to work with. The girls in the breakfast room and the breakfast which changes each day are very good, the breakfast room is always neat and tidy. The hotel staff make sure your room is clean your needs are met and they work well together. Plenty of hot water the water pressure is great beds and pillows are extremely comfortable. Will definitely stay again when in the area.

Stayed here just for the night while traveling to the Outer Banks. Staff was friendly, professional, and informative. I knew when I booked in advance my room came with a fridge & microwave, but I thought it would be a mini fridge & microwave. My room came with a small add on kitchen, which in addition featured, a small range with oven & stove top, sink, and cabinets. If you're traveling with multiple people / children and are on a budget this is great as you can cook / prepare meals in your hotel room. The front desk also has plate / dinnerware available if need @ no charge. You of course have wifi, gym, continental breakfast, and they also have computers w/printers at the front desk if needed. Also there's of course the beach, which is right in your backyard. The only reason I didn't give them a 5 star is because the bathroom does need some TLC, like some caulking and I could tell there was some water damage behind the shower walls. But again, for the price, I can deal with that.

I booked this hotel for our family spring break using our reward points with our credit card. Upon arrival, we were concerned about our safety in the surrounding area. We decided to check in and take a look at the room, hoping that our concerns could be compensated. When we opened the door, the first thing we noticed was the smell, it was stale and was not fresh. Next we noticed the age of the decor and the rips and tears in the carpet. The couch cushions were misshaped and the pull out bed was dirty. The view out the window in the bedroom was of the dumpster and all the trash on the ground around it. We immediately decided to check out and decided that it would be in our best interest to pay out of pocket and loose our travel reward. The staff did ask if there was anything that could be done to fix the problems, however, they cannot fix the location, nor allow funds for an update of the facility.

Good thing it was on the beach although weather was to cold and windy to use it bad timing on our part. Place was old and in need of fixing up. Carpet was worn, microwave did not work clock on it worked but that was it room 123, Breakfast was normal but good. If ever in the area again will not stay here.

We stayed here for the weekend. It was reasonably priced and with that there are always little things, but nothing to really complain about. Wasn't exactly hip to no smoking on the balcony, in the rooms I understand, but it's not acceptable on the grounds at all. For the nonsmokers, this is a big plus, but for us a little bit of a buzz kill. Luckily, we were too busy away from the hotel for it to much matter. Water pressure was great, breakfast was a little different each morning, the staff were courteous and helpful and it was on the Beach Front. What else could you ask for, for this price? Only reason it got 4 stars, rather than 5 for me is it did kind of bug me they didn't have more handicapped parking, the no outside smoking and the TV was a pain.... Otherwise, pretty good.

This hotel provides good accommodations and good value in an area with few other options. The staff is very friendly, and the complimentary breakfast is good. You can walk out onto the beach on the Chesapeake Bay. On this trip I stayed in the hotel's high rise building on the top (fifth) floor. From my balcony I had good views of dolphins in the bay. The area around the hotel is not great, and there are few places to eat nearby, but the hotel is fairly convenient to a lot of attractions in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area.

The B.W. Holiday Sands Inn & Suites was the nicest Best Western we have used in recent years. It was so nicely furnished, the kitchen area was so convenient and of course, it was nice to look out the window at the Bay. Everything was immaculate . Unfortunately, we arrived late and left early the next morning so didn't have an opportunity to enjoy it as much as we would have liked. We will certainly come back there another time and refer it to a group who might be interested in coming for a reunion.

The room we have has a living area with a pull out couch and a separate sleeping area with the king bed. It is a great set up for families or for people traveling with another couple. Staff is friendly, breakfast is good. The only critique is that the pull out couch is very dated and needs to be replaced. Location is good.

Spring for a beachfront room, and you can sip coffee on your balcony as the waves lap on the shore about 50 yards away. Very pleasant. The motel itself is pretty tired -- could use a makeover. Cracked plaster, creaky elevator, etc. Staff was extra friendly and helpful. My first room stank, probably because of water damage from recent passage of Hurricane Matthew. Manager upgraded me to a much nicer one. Cox Cable TV broke; the staff got it fixed while I was at breakfast, which was a good deal better than the standard motel fare, scrambled eggs etc.

I spent two nights here and was very satisfied. The room was quiet, clean, and comfortable. A full breakfast, free parking, and free wifi was available. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The hotel was easy to find; my only "complaint" is an inability to find a regular restaurant nearby, but this was not an issue since I spent both days in downtown Norfolk.

My husband and I have stayed here twice now. Both times we were pleased with what we received. This place isn't very fancy and both rooms we stayed in were outdated, but the staff, location, and cleanliness was awesome. I do believe there are some rooms being updated, as my in-laws stayed in a room upstairs from us and theirs had new carpet and furniture. Both times we stayed we had our dog with us. There is a fenced in area for the dogs and the beach is dog friendly certain months out of the year. The beach is clean and you can walk right onto it from the hotel property. Plus the water is WARM! It's like taking a bath. Can't beat the price for being on the beach! Also, the lady tending to breakfast and cleaning around the grounds (Can't remember her name) is so sweet! This last time we stayed my mother-in-law had passed away and we were there to handle her affairs. This lady spent time talking to my husband and showering him with kindness during his time of grieving. I know this kindness and meant so much to him and it is so appreciated. Thank you ma'am!!

We were wanting access to a beach front hotel---this definitely fit the bill! The price was much more reasonable than I had expected to pay. There is a wide range of motels along the street, but this one was just what we were looking for. The room was average, but nice---comfortable bed and clean. The A/C was a little musty, but otherwise everything was fine. We had a small balcony with a couple of plastic chairs. This was not a "high-end" roomy type of balcony, but for someone looking for a relaxing place to sit in the evening and enjoy the view of the bay/ocean, it was perfect. Guests have access to the beach from the hotel. We went swimming in the evening and morning. Don't expect a fancy paved walkway to the water, but access on a budget. Be sure to mention that you want a balcony room if that is something you're seeking. Breakfast was typical Best Western breakfast, good and satisfying. The breakfast and desk workers were all very pleasant and seemed to enjoy working there. We would definitely check into staying there again. (Our visit was in July, 2016.)

Good Value for a base from which to sight see and tour. Staff members are very accommodating. Access to the beach is a plus. Breakfast is good, fast and well served. Pricing is great. Good on sight parking and on main road.

My mom and I stayed at the Best Western Plus Holiday Sands Inn & Suites from 6/27/16 thru 6/30/16 and was not happy with our stay at all. We thought we booked a gem after it was recommended by Hotwire and was a beach front property. What a nightmare our stay was, we thought we had a double gem when the staff gave us a room on the first floor which was a big mistake. Since the property is beach front no one went to sleep at night! We had constant crowds walking past our room loitering in front of our room, talking and shouting loud after drinking and carrying on into the early morning hours. After one night we called the front desk to complain because we could not get any sleep! Our dream vacation with beach access became a restless nightmare for us. The staff did nothing to assist, Greg from the front desk did sympathize but management didn't do anything to make up for our horrible restless stay. We have decided to never stay here again and never book a beach front hotel because you won't get any rest. This hotel is not family friendly, it is more suitable for those who want to party and hang out all night which is fine for those who desire this. Please think carefully before staying here, if no rest on vacation is ok with you then go ahead and book a room. The hotel is on the older side and does need some renovations also.

"Bad ending to a great trip"

This hotel has been recently refurbished and was very clean and spacious (although after we left, Hurricane Matthew did some damage to it.) The staff was warm and welcoming...we especially enjoyed the evening night clerk who checked us in and the women who staffed the breakfast room. The complimentary breakfast was very good and offered a wide variety choose from...nothing cooked to order, though. On the whole it was a great experience as we were there to take a family cruise on the USS George Washington. However, after we got home, we realized we had left a somewhat expensive sweater in a dresser drawer...shame on us! When we called the office they said nothing had been turned in, but they would check on it. When we didn't hear back, we called and spoke to the manager. He, also, said he would check on it. When we didn't hear back from him, we called again and he stated that he was very busy with the damage from Hurricane Matthew. We felt bad for him, but if he had followed up in the beginning he could have solved the problem. We called Corporate as well and felt that neither the manager nor corporate really cared about looking in to finding the sweater. Bottom line...if you stay at this hotel, don't leave anything of value in your room, because you won't get it back...shame on them!

Although we were not able to find your item, I actually spend quite a bit of time at the post office mailing guests' lost items back to them, everything from children's toys, clothing, jewelry, to electronics, usually sent out at our expense, and 90% of the time they hear from us about their left behind items before they know it is missing.

I had a good experience last week until I got home and realized I left a very expensive sweater in a drawer. I called immediately expecting it to have been turned in by housekeeping. Wrong. Long story short-don't let them in your room and triple check everywhere-even drawers you don't think you used-before check out 'cause after you check whatever you left will be up for grabs. I feel the manager passed the buck instead of check in person.I felt he should have questioned housekeeping himself. I even allowed time since I knew they had hurricane damage. A bitter ending to an otherwise good experience. Lesson learned--check and check again.

This is a really a wonderful place to stay because of the staff, the location, the parking, and access to many other sites for both the business person and the vacationing family. Walking on the beach is the best spa one can have, and it is right there! Wonderful sunrises and sunsets without the noise of life.

Good place to stay for the price. The ocean views are spectacular. The hotel is a little older and could use some updates but they do a good job of maintaining. The staff was super friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the typical continental breakfast that was offered. Free parking! The only real negative thing I have to say is that the bathroom was dirty upon arrival and the room had a musty smell to it so the maid service could be a little more attentive.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The ocean view rooms really have a spectacular view. The rooms are a little worse for the wear, but it's to be expected having all that salt water and humidity. The staff was very friendly and we were pleased with our choice to stay here. Not the fanciest part of town, but not bad either. We weren't worried for our safety or anything like that. We would stay here again!

The moment we walk into a room, we always check the beds. Well upon checking, we found 6 strains of hair on the sheets. We had gotten a room with 2 queen beds so we were able to sleep in that one, of course we checked that bed too. The linen rack was falling off the wall too. When we checked out, we mentioned this to the front desk, their response was, "Sorry. Will you be using the same credit card to check out?" They basically dismissed us. Also, I must say, I didn't feel safe there. The only thing that was good about this stay was the view of the beach from the balcony although it's not enough for us to come back. Sorry.

This is the 4th stay for me, this time for 3 nights. I visit family and it's near their house. There are no other options in this immediate area that are as nice or as clean. Every time I stay here, it is better. The rooms are clean first and foremost. The rooms are quiet seemingly from solid construction. The towels and linens are of excellent quality and were clean and soft. The AC was excellent. Bathroom was spacious, spotless and clean (a little dated but fully functioning). Lots of hot water, water-saver showerhead. Free Wifi. Free good breakfast with a variety of foods. Friendly employees. Great deal. Nice size TV. Mattresses are getting a little worn but still comfortable. Kitchenette (on this stay only) was very nice and very clean. I am very picky and travel several times a year, and this hotel checks all the right boxes. Highly recommend.

hair on toilet from previous occupant. Dust in the vents of the airconditioner. hair in the ice bucket from previous occupant. I feel the cleaning staff is not taught the importance of their job involving hygiene and infection control... Breakfast selection was poor - all sugar filled processed cereals, oatmeals, muffins, etc. The bed was extremely uncomfortable! My back is still sore from our 4 day visit. I didn't sleep well. I travel a lot and have stayed in other hotels - I will not be staying at a best western again. They can't take the time to educate their staff on the importance of cleanliness, I can't take the time to visit.

I attend the Airshow at NAS Oceana every year. Those F-18 Hornets are truly the sound of Freedom. The Holiday Sands allows you to be a part of the hustle and bustle of the Virginia Beach area but it's location on Chesapeake Bay allows you a chance to slow down. You can follow the sunset as it set's over a sleepy cove. Get advice on the small hidden gems that serve great food. Go to sleep comfortable bed and wake to see the sunrise. It's time for breakfast and the start of another day at the NAS Oceana Airshow.

Although this was only a one night stay, we were so pleased with the hotel and the staff. The room was great, overlooking the water. Beautiful surroundings, access to the beach. we didn't use the pool but it was spotless. The staff was more than helpful, with directions for the rest of our trip. We would, without a question, stay here again!!

My friend and I went in all directions from this hotel to find neat things to do. I continue to return to the Norfolk area just because there's so much there to see and do. This hotel was a very nice part of our last visit; we had very inexpensive rooms, so not much to write home about, but the people were super friendly and the breakfast was great. Unfortunately we didn't get to use the beach or pool - wrong season - but still, it's within easy driving distance of Yorktown, Virginia Beach, the Ferguson Center for the Arts in Newport News, all the many things to do in Williamsburg without the high prices for lodging there. I'd go again without hesitation.

Do not stay in this hotel there are bed bugs we left after walking into the room when the lights would not turn on and the sheets were dirty. we ended up at dubble tree. save yourself the stress and pick a different hotel

If you love the beach, this is the hotel for you! Great Breakfast, Great room, Great View, Great location! Kevona at the front desk is a pleasure! My daughter and I loved her! All the staff was helpful and polite. The only issue was the breakfast room had a lot of flies flying around, not too nice, but the food was delish!

Stayed for 3 days/nights. Beach access is great, pool is great, service was excellent, rooms were clean but show the age of the hotel. The property is non-smoking but there were always people trying to smoke there. I would stay again if in the area and in need of an east coast beach vacation.

So we booked 2 rooms while travelling to the Outer Banks and the price was reasonable and staff very friendly and helpful. Our room was a second level with2 queens - very clean, spacious, cute view and a kitchenette so that room we would give a 4/5. The lower room was the pet friendly room and was musty, worn out and the air conditioning rattled so 2.5/5. I would recommend for a stop over and it was close to many restaurants but not for the pet friendly rooms.

The hotel itself is located in a beautiful area, beach front with a nice, clean pool. The room decor was a little out dated, but I did find that the bathroom was clean and tidy as well as the bed. We stayed in a Jr King Suite which has 2 rooms. The sofa pull out bed was missing springs and was very uncomfortable. My daughter decided to sleep on the sofa without the bed pulled out for that reason. We always bring extra sheets to be fitted to the sofa/bed so we are not laying directly on the fabric. Our king bed was more firm than we prefer at home, but it wasn't terrible by any means. The chairs placed in the room near the breakfast table had a few stains on the fabric top, we did not find a need for them anyway. Nice desk area with rolling chair for those traveling on business. All in all, for what I paid, the hotel served my needs. I think that if it had a small "face lift" the rooms would be superior. Breakfast was hot and different each day of my stay which was nice. I have stayed in nicer Best Western's, so in my opinion is that this one just needs to be updated, paint, carpet, furniture. Staff was pleasant and price was right.

The location was convenient to our travel needs (a one-night stay) and it was right on the bay beach side so the view was beautiful. We could see the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel from our private little deck, big enough for 2 plastic chairs. The room was typically small - 2 queen beds even though I wanted a king, but did have both a microwave and refrigerator which was perfect for us. The room was OK; decor is old, there was some paint peeling off the ceiling and it smelled a bit musty but was VERY clean. The pool is small and you can see the beach from the pool deck but it was crowded with lots of kids so I wouldn't call it relaxing by the pool. The price was a bit high in my opinion considering the size of the room, the age of the place but it is on the water so I guess that is the price you have to pay. If what you want is a bay view with a beach for the kids to play on, this is it. If you want to swim with waves and relax reading a book by the pool, this is not the place to go. Weigh the convenience with what you want.

We got in pretty late due to traffic on the way in, so we checked in around midnight was greeted by the lovely young lady Victoria. She was very outgoing and helpful. She had a great personality as we asked the same question about where breakfast and the beach access was, she was still very pleasant with a smile. our room was very clean. breakfast was great a little cramped but overall excellent. I would definitely come again for my vacation next year !!

The staff was excellent and very friendly! I stayed there for two days with family from out of town . The rooms were clean and beds were comfy.We loved being able to swim in ocean that was calm and the kids enjoyed the pool as well.I stayed there many years ago and was the same then except this tome we had a breakfast included.I thought the breakfast was very good.I think that the flies were because people kept leaving the door open when they entered or left the room. I had to close the door twice while I was there. Very enjoyable stay!!!

This hotel had such great reviews and came highly reccomended by a new friend, so we couldn't wait to check in and start our vacation! We expected clean rooms with an awesome view of the beach, helpful/friendly employees, and the best complimentary breakfast ever! With all of that for a much lower price, who needs to vacation on VA Beach Boardwalk! Anyways, what we got was completely different. When we checked in the employee hardly spoke to us let alone made eye contact. When we asked questions about our stay she gave us short and indirect answers. She notified us that our room would not have a beach view and when we booked the room over the phone, we were told we couldn't be guaranteed a view but our chances were VERY good at getting one and it would be noted in our reservation. Besides that the room smelled musty upon entering. Our toilet made a terrible whistling sound when flushed. Instead of giving us a new room they sent maintenance. I then found a giant rip in the carpet where there was also water dripping down the window and A/C onto the floor(explains the musty smell.) I decided we would leave since they wouldn't give us a new room.When I went to check out they agreed to give us a new room ?? which we took since it was about 7 and were from Pittsburgh. The second room was MUCH better than room 114. Then we went to the "beach" which besides having sand, was nothing like the ocean. Had no waves, dead fish, and had garbage everywhere. The pool was heated but could use a good cleaning as well. The whole hotel had chipping paint and looked kind of dirty. But regardless we tried to make the best of our stay and got a good night's rest after going night swimming in the heated pool. Which was the best part of our stay! Last but not least, the amazing breakfast everyone talked about. It's in a small room with about 5 or 6 tables and was packed! Flies flying everywhere and workers trying to freshen up what's being served. It was much like every continental breakfast you get at hotels now. Fruit, yogurt, cereal, waffles or pacakes, and several hot options. Could've been better but also could've been worse. We will not be going back or reccomending this hotel to anyone. If you are looking for a nice BEACH/OCEAN vacation, don't rob yourself by booking here! Spend the extra 2 hundred and stay on the Boardwalk in VA beach. Heck if you stay a street over the Clarion's rates were very similar to this BW! We are not hotel snobs by any means but I wish we wouldn't have wasted one night here.

I have stayed at many hotels and other Best Western locations. This hotel was located in a remote area in an undesirable neighborhood. The hotel website description is misleading as far as the number of rooms which have balconies and ocean views. This facility has two sides: one of which looks like a 2-story motel and another in a mid-rise building. The website description makes it seem all of the rooms are located in the mid-rise building, some of which have ocean views. The complimentary breakfast was satisfactory at best; however, the eating area was bombarded by flies which made enjoying a meal impossible. The housekeeping staff was pleasant. My children enjoyed the pool but the ocean was not like the clear beach at Virginia Beach. I selected this hotel as an alternative to the resort area at Virginia Beach but it failed in comparison. I would never return to this hotel even if I was given a complimentary stay. Choose somewhere else!

We had a great stay at the Best Western Plus Holiday Sands Inn & Suites. The rooms were clean and spacious. The bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever had away from home. The saltwater pool was clean and warm. The beach was easily accessible. Our view was incredible and we could see dolphins swimming in the bay. Staff was friendly and helpful and the breakfasts were varied and very tasty.

"Great VA Beach Alternative"

We stayed at this hotel in May and also made a Return trip in August. The weekday rates are excellent and we have been super happy with this hotel.Staff is amazing and whiling to help you in anyway possible. The beach and pool are easy to access and are well maintained. Rooms seems to be fairly updated and well maintained. Breakfast is amazing. There is usually two ladys working hard to keep the food full and fresh. Baked goods, cereal, waffles, eggs, sausage, bacon, and gravy and just a few items on the menu. Warm and cold beverages as well as fresh fruit. We stayed in a suite, which has a living room with a couch/tv area, and then it has a separate bedroom with a king bed. Very roomy and comfortable.

"Worst Western is more like it."

A very shabby hotel that has not seen any updates since probably the 80s. Our room was a king "suite", which really means a short wall separates the "sleeping area" from the "kitchenette/bathroom area". The toilet and shower are in a very cramped room with the sink outside the door. The bed was very hard. Plugs were inaccessible. We were using the sofa bed (which I think they should have figured out since when we reserved the room it was for 2 adults and I kid). I had to go back downstairs to get bedding and we were given a blanket that smelled like urine. The topper was finding a Western Conifer Seed Eating Bug on my wife's pillow in the morning (at least I think it was a Western Conifer Seed Eating Bug). We were supposed to stay 3 night. After 30 minutes in the room (we checked in very late around 9 p.m.), we were using the free WIFI to find a different hotel. Not a good way to start a vacation. The "free breakfast" was in the opposite side of the building. This is a fairly large hotel, but they had six (6) tables in the breakfast room. Definitely not worth the cost.

Very nice hotel especially for the money. Beautiful pool area, right on the beach, dog-walk park, breakfast, fitness room, balcony, and friendly staff. Good place for family vacation. Located on the bay at the top of the Virginia Beach area with easy access to roadways throughout Norfolk/Virginia Beach.

We came here with our family dog, so the accommodations would have been better if we were facing the ocean, but the place was still good. They could repair the sofa bed, as the springs came loose when our kids slept on the bed. The Ocean is right there, that's the best part. The city ordinance only allows dogs on the beach before 10am and after 6pm. They have a dog run so your pet can get a little running and playing in. The staff were great! Very helpful and accommodating.

If this hotel were in a different neighborhood i may have recommend this hotel.It was clean and the staff were professional.BUT, A lot of unsavory looking people hanging out on the streets all hours of the night. Other guests smoking pot on the balcony below ours. Just didn't feel safe!

Hotel could be updated & the mattress on the pull out couch was horrible. The springs were coming thru the mattress which made it hard for our kids to sleep on. Reported the problem & informed them that it needed to be replaced.

8 family members stayed there while visiting our son nearby. We drove by several that were close by when we arrived and this was by far the best! Hotel was great! Beach literally right outside your room! Beach was very clean, beach chairs available for free at front desk to check out, Area to bbq outside a nice sized pool and large patio area with many chairs. No elevators, but I definitely would recommend a second floor bay view for beautiful sunrise view. May have elevators in the tower portion of the hotel because it was 5 floors but that was a separate part we weren't in.

This hotel was very much as expected. The check in was very smooth and the room was perfectly acceptable. The view was great and our nighttime walks were perfect! Be sure to take a flashlight and check out the 'ghost' crabs going in and out of their holes after dark. Very fun! We did not have any of the breakfast offerings but appreciated that they were available if we desired. The cost is a bit high but you are paying for the oceanfront property. We had a great stay!

We visited the norfolk/virginia beach area this past week july 20th through the 24th. I researched hotels in the area, a picked this one, because of the other reviews, it was right on the bay, the price, and it was near my family. The rooms are very clean, dated yes, but again this is a best western not the ritz Carlton. And anyhow, when u are on vacation u dont spend your time in the hotel room, u just need a nice clean comfortable place to stay, and this hotel delivers. Its right on the bay, so there arent big waves at all, so dont expect that. The hotel has a beautiful view. The price is alot cheaper than staying ocean front on Virginia beach, about half the price, and is close in price to decent hotels in the city, but this one has a view of the bay. Its on ocean view so u can drive on oceanview/ shore and hit all the beaches in the area, ocean view, east beach, chics beach and virginia beach. If u are looking for a nice clean hotel to rest your head at night, at a recent price, if u want something cheaper, then pick a super 8 or motel 6, and take tour chances. If u want top of the line, then pay the high dollar and dont complain about this one. The staff here is also VERY friendly and helpful, our housekeeping was crystal, and she was such a delight.

Nice hotel, clean and the front desk crew just so friendly.If you know Ocean view or Norfolk 75% of both is not safe to walk the streets at night and even the day..This hotel area is the safest I found in that area and the price is not bad.Now the beach including Va beach the water for me is nasty compared to Myrtle Beach. As for places to eat in that area got to say not much got to hoo in the car and drive away to find a descent place.I recommend this place if visiting Ocean view area but few miles away you got the local thugs and crime area..

I don't understand how this hotel got such good ratings. The website lists an indoor pool and hot tub. Not so. Rooms are mediocre. Staff ranges from friendly to argumentative. It is cheaper than others, but that is because of its location. To get to anything is a drive.

The staff is very friendly and will go out of their way to help you. Even though the receptionist had another customer in front of her, she still acknowledged me when I walked through the door and stood in line. The room was very clean and ready for my arrival. For my stay the location was perfect, the was access to a quite beach right behind the outdoor pool. The pool was clean and the pool deck was well organized. I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a quite reasonably priced hotel in the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area.

the room was clean, although the exhaust in the bathroom comes on with the light and was extremely loud (room 217). Great location on the beach, hotel offered no umbrellas around pool or on deck. There were chairs, although they were plastic, so very uncomfortable as they stretched and became very hot. Would have been better if the room had a balcony. Housekeeping forced us out of our room one day because it was their last room to clean (4:00). We had just come from the beach and was trying to relax before going out. So that was a big disruption. the room where free breakfast was served was very hot and full of flies. Disappointed but it was just OK.

This hotel is located on the bay/ocean view beach. I always prefer to stay in this area than fighting the crowds at the Virginia Beach boardwalk area. I hadn't stayed here in years and was pretty sure what I was getting into. A decent place to stay on the beach at an affordable price. The room was clean and the staff friendly. The breakfast was standard best western although the dining area was small ( a room turned into an eating area). There are restaurants nearby but if you want a upscale restaurant you will have to drive a few minutes. Hotels on the boardwalk in Virginia beach have much higher rates and honestly are not that much nicer. I will stay here again in the future. Remember you get what you pay for $350 a night on the boardwalk or $150 a night here.

There were no nice eating establishments nearby. There was no attractions to see within walking distance. I did not feel safe at this hotel.

This Hotel is just ok. I was not able to book a room with a Balcony that may have made the stay better. Booked 3 nights stay .I was attending the Norfolk JazzfFest. The hotel was in a excellent location. To enjoy the beach during the day and attend the Fest in the evening. The rooms are old and drab but very clean , the beds were comfy. Other then sleeping, you do want to spend any time in this room. All of employees that I had dealings with were very professional and pleasant. The Breakfast was was not appealing to me. The breakfast room had too many flies flying around. There did seem to be a variety of choices but I didn't eat anything. The hotel does not supply any beach lounger,towels or Umbrellas which i think is pretty much the norm for this type of facility. The beach water is very shallow only about 3 ft. it is more of a wading beach No waves. An adult can't really swim it's too shallow, You should bring a blowup float device to sit or lay on in the water. There are also lots of biting sand fleas very annoying. This hotel /beach property is perfect for families with small kids. Not so perfect for teens and Adults..

We have been using this hotel for over 40 yrs, gone downhill in the last few years. Hardly any chairs on the patio, (glad we brought our own), only 4 tables on the patio with no umbrellas (again glad we brought our own even though we had to rope it to broken poles) Patio not hosed down nearly enough, bags of garbage piled up beside the cans and not picked up frequently enough, Chairs and picnic tables missing from breezeway area. Sad to say it isn't what we remembered or expected for the money.

We chose this hotel because we have always liked Best Western Hotels. This place was 2 story 3rd rate motel. The photo on the website didn't look like the hotel at all. The room were tired and badly in need of renovation. The breakfast room was so small that most guests fought for some food to take back to their rooms. For the price paid, other than the fact that this place is near a beach, this experience was an expensive mistake.

The lobby looks nice but that is about it.One positive it's by the beach. Of course if the bush growing up next to that entrance doesn't get trimmed soon it will be blocking that too. Dirty flooring, breakfast area so hot you could barely stand it, room door had to slammed shut every time, tv remote, and it goes on and on.

Check in staff is friendly. Great breakfast with awesome women in charge of it. Cleaning staff is an excuse factory that either doesn't clean room or takes forever to do it. Room was not cleaned and ready for 4:00 Pm check in and was never cleaned at all the next day because cleaning staff told management that dead bolt lock was locked. This is not is possible since we weren't in the room. This one is getting too pricey during peak times of year for what they offer.

Well... It hasn't been pleasant so far. This hotel has a policy that states you must have the complete amount on one card even if you are splitting the Payment. However they don't tell you that up front and it's not on the Best Western web site. When we finally get into the room it's musty! It smells like there has been water sitting in the room. Since we can not find another room in Norfolk we buy air freshener and Lysol and try to make the best of it. Then we pull out the sofa bed this evening and it like a pancake, one side of the bed is falling apart and there is stain on the mattress. And... No sheets! The outside is not clean. There is trash around the fountain and unkept plants all around the outdoor areas. The one good thing I can say is the staff is very friendly, hopefully they will be kind enough to give us a new room tomorrow.

The staff was helpful when we were given an uncleaned room number at the start. They moved us immediately and things were ok after that. The rooms need updating and they had water damaged ceiling panels that need attention. We had a room with a balcony that looked out over the bay, it was very nice.

We were in Norfolk for the weekend, and decided to risk the Ocean View area. We travel with our dog (rescue puppy) and it is hard to find a hotel/motel that takes pets. We were very surprised. The room was older but clean, ALL the staff was wonderful. The breakfast was OK. The coffee was not that bad. And, like the pictures show, the Bay was only a couple of hundred feet away. On a sadder note there was a significant pet per day fee. ( it was posted, I just did not read it) And get this, the grand kid left this Nintendo on the beach. We thought there goes $200. A visitor turned it in AND THE STAFF FOUND IT AND RETURNED IT TO OUR GRANDSON. This speaks volumes about the quality and integrity of the folks working there. YES WE WOULD STAY THERE AGAIN!

My wife and I entertained our two nine-year old grandchildren at this facility, and or grown son and girl friend joined us also. We visited Virginia Beach for more engaging activities, but really enjoyed the private beach, pool, and other amenities of this facility.

We stayed at this Best Western on our way to Cape Charles. The place could be super nice but it needs a deep clean. The rooms are clean but the entrance door to the room needs cleaned, the carpet needs replaced, spiderwebs in the room, outside area needed freshened up and cleaned.... just little things. They have a great patio area and pool but not enough chairs. There are grills on the patio which were nice. The patio was great for star gazing. The breakfast is good and area was clean. Very friendly staff. They kept the area clean and organized. Our room was big and spacious. The bed was good. The beach is great here, not over crowded. If your looking for a cheap beach get a way this is it. Especially if you have kids. Some rooms had little kitchenette so you could have dinner right there. Vacation on a budget.

The staff members were extremely helpful and genuinely friendly. Suite was spacious and very nicely decorated. We enjoyed the pool, and also that the location of the hotel was so close to the beach. The outside decor of the hotel is very beach-y so didn't feel like I was in a highrise - this really added to our beach vacation experience.

This hotel was a quick choice for us because it was one of the few on the beach that accepted dogs. The beach here is nice for walking your dog, but not so clean for swimming, at least in June. The room had a full kitchen which was very useful, and the mattresses were quite comfortable (firm). The carpet was indoor, outdoor and smelled a bit musty and the AC left a lot to be desired. On top of that, they tried to charge me for the room prior to check out even though I'd paid through Expedia.

The check in and check out clerks and breakfast attendants were so welcoming! Great staff. Our room also had a balcony overlooking the beach right behind the hotel which had a gorgeous view. We went there for a concert in Norfolk and the hotel just made the trip so much more enjoyable. The pool was also nice to swim in right after a hot day of walking around and checking out the area.

We checked in late night, set the temperature at 65 because the room felt hot. The air conditioner made noise but, the room never was cooled. Considering the price we payed, we were very dissatisfied.

We have stayed at the Best Western Holiday Sands for many years on our annual fishing trip with Four Winds Charter Boats. We have always had a clean room, comfortable beds and great housekeeping. This year we were pleased to find new carpet in our room. The patio and pool area are always clean. The staff is great and even know us by name! The breakfast is delicious and the staff in there go out of their way to speak to everyone and make sure you are satisfied. The hotel offers private beach access. Great place to stay!

This was the perfect spot for our vacation since we wanted to visit the Atlantic Ocean beaches and historical places like Williamsburg. There is also plenty to in Norfolk. The staff at this hotel is very friendly, the breakfast is good, and the view from the balcony is amazing! The beach and water are RIGHT THERE. Fun to watch the ships and the sunset. The room could use some updating, especially the carpet, but overall it was clean. The price was right for the location and value we received. We would stay here again.

Pros: Continental breakfast & hotel is ocean front. Cons: Not all rooms are oceanview which they portray in the pictures. They need to specify Oceanfront view/Non Oceanfront view in the room selections , especially for the rates they charged us. There is only one pool, it is not kid friendly at all. The rooms were not that clean..furniture & carpet needs to be replaced. They need to place the bathroom in a neutral area between the rooms in the suites...not inside the private bedroom to be shared by your other room guests. Also, they should switch up the breakfast menu. The staff was ok. We have stayed in better places than this for this rate. Thanks!

Broken/outdated appliances and HVAC systems were not adequately repaired after reporting them multiple times. Needed to use ice to keep my fridge foods chilled. Had to unplug unit since frozen freezer fan was making horrible loud noise; all maintenance did was plug it back in; freezer worked fine but not the fridge. Main room unit ventilator did not blow cool air; had to keep bedroom door open to cool the main living space for the kids. A few other service-related problems as well, including carpet not being vacuumed prior to our arrival. This was the second year in a row that our club reserved a block of rooms for an annual event; this year's stay was a much worse experience for us compared to last year.

I would go out of my way to stay here! Great staff, service and atmosphere! It is a true gem. The fitness center is well done, access to the beach was 30 yards at most and it is accented by a pool. I think it was under repair at the time, but will be back up shortly I am sure. Clean and well stocked rooms that feel like a second home once you check in! You will not be dissapointed!

This hotel is not worth the several hundred dollars per night that we paid. We did not feel safe in our room with the archaic door lock. This hotel needs a full renovation. The staff was great considering what they have to work with. I don't know how they keep their smiles. I find it insulting that the bestwestern.com website describes the hotel as: "The history of the area draws cultural enthusiasts and history buffs to the area, and it is the perfect destination for a romantic getaway." I feel sorry for the gal that is brought here for a romantic getaway.

Overall a wonderful stay! Fantastic location. Gorgeous view from the 3rd floor of the tower. Room was very clean & spacious. Beds were comfortable, shower was clean & pillows were fluffy. The outside of the hotel looks a little sketchy, but the interior rooms are a nice surprise. We truly based our stay onTrip Advisor reviews & AAA reviews. There were nice updated beds, television, furniture, clean carpet, etc. our balcony needs a good power wash & fresh paint but it was still nice. Nothing compares to a nice water view! You can see the bay bridge tunnel with the ocean just on the other side. You see some really neat massive ships coming in & going out to the ocean. The check in staff were amazing! Smiling face, polite & friendly. Our room was even ready early which is always SUPER important to me ?? We enjoyed our stay & we will be back!!!

Went down to VA for friends retirement of 30 years in Navy, This hotel was close to Navy base and right on the beach, which I never had before. The room was clean, only had a smaill stain in rug...didn't smell. The doors stuck a little, but that's probably due to being on the beach. wish the weather was warmer...but took a walk every morning and night during our stay. All in all for the price I would definitely stay again!

Was there on a Thursday. Staff is very nice and polite. Alrhough the rooms are a bit dated. It is clean, the linens are fresh and the bathroom is in good shape. The only concern was the layout of the room, could have had a great ocean view if not for the bad layout, the bathroom and kitchen blocking the oceanview, but that is another story and does not affect the great service I got. Highly recommended

My boyfriend and I travel a lot of concerts and conventions. This was our first time in this hotel and we are already planning on coming back this summer! Fantastic staff! Great rooms! Right on the beach! Definitely would recommend this hotel to anyone! We were out late the previous night so we slept in and only had ten minutes to get breakfast and check out. Breakfast staff was more than accommodating and super friendly. The staff truly made me feel like they cared about my stay. Best western will now we the first hotel I check for when staying in other areas as well!

The published price per room includes all fees! We choose a beach front room and was pleased to find a private balcony to enjoy the view. The bathroom sink was large and located between the enclosed bathroom and the beds. The bathroom included toilet and shower/tub and was claustrophobic. However, the shower pressure was great. Breakfast was plentiful.

The hotel was clean, with a great view of the bay. On the second day, we watched dolphins playing in the water. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Ours included a kitchen with cookware. Breakfast was included with our stay and they offered a nice variety of food. The staff was very friendly and overall it was a great experience. We had only planned to stay one day, but when we decided to stay in the area for one more day, we came back to stay for another night. The one thing worth mentioning, though, is that there are not many dinner options in the immediate surrounding area.

Stayed here two nights with my daughter while looking for a new home in the area. I want to give them 5 stars or even 4 but this place needs a serious upgrade on the outside. As I pulled up I almost didnt go in and go elsewhere but after 8 hours of driving I was tired... The staff was VERY nice and gave my free upgrade for having diamond card without a hassle. Some places lie or get mad when you ask. The elevator was nasty... Reminded me of an elevator in middle of the Bronx smelled like urine and was very rundown so after my first trip up I took the stairs. The room was small but good enough for us. It had a beautiful view which is the best perk here. The bed and the room itself were okay, no major complaints. Price was very reasonable probably due to the outside conditons. I think this place could really be great if they fix it up.

We had booked two rooms and when we arrived they said they couldn't put us in two rooms, even though we booked them, when we asked if we could get a single double-bed room she wanted us to pay AGAIN for a new room, without offering us a refund. Finally after talking for what seemed like hours she gave us a refund, really reconsidering where I should stay.

I would defiantly recommend this hotel to anyone in the area if they get the door seal fixed on the room I stayed in. Everything was excellent about this hotel, the staff the room the comfort of the bed, but the noise comming from the wind and the people talking loud and slamming doors late and late night road noise is the only downfall. I am a platnum member with Best Western and stay with them a lot, but this issue needs to be addressed, fix the door seals and you are great, I don't like to be a complainer but just being honest.

First time visit to BW. Not impressed with the room or amenities at all. The staff was wonderful, the location is great, just walk through the breezeway to the beach. Room had multiple problems, plumbing was having issues, fridge was working incorrectly, broken chairs at the table, couch was very old.

We stayed three nights in an ocean view room with two of our grandkids. The staff was great and I mean that. The front desk was very accommodating and friendly. The room was comfortable, larger than the average motel room, clean, comfortable bed and a kitchenette. The breakfast room is large enough and has a good selection of cereal, eggs, waffles, bacon and sausage etc. I would rate the overall experience a 2 1/2 star, a very good value for the area. I would stay here again.

Stopped in for a night on our way home. The clerk was especially helpful and friendly. Our room was large, included a kitchen, and overlooked the Chesapeake Bay. The room had been recently renovated, with new carpet, bath facilities, and paint. Breakfast was included. There was some noise leakage from other rooms, but tolerable.

Nothing's cheap near the water, so this is a pretty good value. Solid work-horse hotel. Staff is very friendly, Everyone we dealt with, from check-in to check-out, was great. Beautiful location, right on the water, and close to a variety of restaurants and other amenities appealing to young and old.

While working on a governmental project I returned to this BW again and once again received great service, quick attention to problems I encountered with the phone, and incredible round the clock service quality by all who worked the hotel. I received great instruction on how to get where I was going, avoid traffic jams, and get mail and shipping services as well. The staff is well informed, sincere about making one feel at home. The views are inspiring,and the towels soft and supple--not cardboard like other BWs. WOW! I will come back.

This hotel is right on Chesapeake Bay with a very large open patio on the back side of the dunes. It clearly has been around for decades but you can tell the owners have made multiple upgrades over the years. There appears to be a newer multi-story wing attached but we stayed in the older 2-story part. Our room (124) was almost like a 1 bedroom apartment. It had kitchen with refrigerator, range, sink and cupboards. There was separate bedroom with a queen bed in back (bay side) and in the main living room there was another queen bed with a hideabed. I could see how this would be a nice room for a family vacation. There is a free breakfast buffet that has the standard hotel breakfast buffet fare. The buffet room is clearly too small for the number of rooms at the hotel. It was also extremely hot (in March) so I can't imagine what it would be like in the summer. This is a decent, clean (if a bit frayed around the edges) place to stay in Norfolk on the Bay.

Will constantly complain about wanting to go home. Will argue with what your getting to eat, then make the atmosphere very tense and uncomfortable.

Unfortunately, noise from late arrivers above us and traffic outside kept my wife awake much of the night and a non-requested wake up call in the morning did not help either. The other possibilities in the area pale in comparison. This is the best venue. This hotel is reasonably priced except in the summer time. In summer the rates are more than I am willing to pay. The breakfast is much like other Best Westerns. One morning omelets were offered. I could not finish mine. Instead I ate the waffles which are always a good choice with Best Westerns. Enjoy the easy accessibility to the bay beach.

I booked this hotel for some business in the Norfolk area. This property is adjacent to the water and is a old motor court-style hotel from the 1960's that's been renovated a few times, also there is a more recent tower addition attached to the hotel. Access was fairly easy from the Interstate & major roadways. I was a very late arrival, check-in was uneventful and quick at 3 AM. The room featured two queen beds, flat screen TV and a kitchenette. The appliances were older but all appeared to be in working order. The room was mostly clean, however some peeling paint and noticeable wear on all furnishings was noted, as well as dirt & dust on the carpet along the bed nightstands and a musty smell in the room. The bed was comfortable and the heat (it was COLD outside that night!) worked well. The following morning however, things went bad as the hot water went from good temperature to ice-cicle cold in less then 5 minutes (Property is on a central water boiler, my guess is the boiler quit). Towels were marginally soft but well used. There was a complementary breakfast till 11 AM on site, but I didn't get a chance to check it out before leaving unfortunately. Management offered no compensation for the difficulties with the hot water on check-out. Hmmmph. This is a good property for the value, price point was below the average in the Norfolk area. I might return stay here if I returned to the area again, but given that I HATE cold showers I'm really on the fence here. Normally I'd rate this property very good, but the water issue & indifferent management drops it to medium-average.

Ocean View is a funky area with very few amenities but this is a well-maintained motel with direct access to the Chesapeake Bay beach. The rooms are very small but very clean, and the complimentary breakfast is good. I got a good rate by calling the motel directly. Staff is very friendly. Good restaurants are a fairly long drive away. This is a good location for a low-cost stay with direct access to the Chesapeake Bay beach.

This is my second time staying at this hotel for business and it is right on the beach which is wonderful! The hotel is a good value, room amenities pretty good, bed extremely comfortable, but the wireless internet was very slow. Other than that, I enjoyed my stay. The breakfast was pretty good as well if you are used to eating the standard American breakfast.

Very upset with my stay. About 5 minutes after turning off the lights, I turned the light back on to turn the heat down. To my dismay, there was a very large disgusting Water Bug crawling across the floor. I grabbed a briefcase and with both my hands swung it as hard as I could to smash this monster. I immediately called the front desk. They offered to move me to another room. Before the manager showed up, this creature started moving again. I tried several times to smash it with my shoe, but it continued to run, even though I was pounding it with my shoe (size 13). It ran into the closet where I finally was able to beat it to death. After my day long meeting, I came back to find my hotel door standing wide open. I slammed it closed & tried to take a nap. A few minutes after laying in bed, the door swung open again. The room was very small. I am 6'4 & there was barely enough room to walk around the bed.

A darling little motor hotel on the beach. Clean with nice amenities (pool when in season, free breakfast) It has a great price, and the customer service is excellent! It is located off the beaten path of Virginia beach, so you escape the touristy prices and expensive parking lots.

Room was clean, but had a stale smell like it needed to be aired out. Nice view of the bay. Breakfast consisted of eggs and biscuits with gravy along with the normal pastries, coffee, etc. I checked rates online, but did not make a reservation. When I called en route I was told that to get the rate I saw at bestwestern.com I would have to book online. That was inconvenient since I was driving, but I worked it out. Desk clerk was very helpful and professional during check in.

So I booked this room because it was right on the beach and a great price .. It's re modeled inside new tub/walls sinks carpet is real soft (walked on) but room was dirty as hell I was upset there was even trash left in one of the trash cans ( not from us)

Difficult to find in this area. Make sure if you want a balcony that you request the tower. All other rooms either do not have ocean view or if they do there is only a window and you can't step outside which seems a design flaw to me. Very nice staff, reasonably priced for the area and within 10 minutes or so of Ghent and the Downtown Norfolk shopping and restaurants.

This hotel is right on the beach. We only stayed the one night, but enjoyed it and would come back. The breakfast was included and so was the internet. You also get free coffee and juice in the hotel lobby 24x7. Our room included a kitchenette too which had a large refrigerator.

We liked the oceanview with balcony, overlooking the chesapeake bay. The bed was good, the room looked good. The cook did great with the scramble eggs and sausage gravy! (she really have big chunks of sausage, not specks and most hotels have.) They had little waffles and offer syrup and strawberry topping and whipped cream....Wow! She was very helpful and pleasant. The clerk we had was terrific. Suggested a great seafood place.

We stay at this hotel every year for Christmas usually stay 2 or 3 days. Last year we had a very bad experience there with rudeness from housekeeping staff our rm was just nasty. But the hotel is located in a great place. So we decided to give it another chance. WOW ! Our room was spotless we got a rm with new carpet freshly painted our rm had never been so clean.staff so friendly. Our housekeeper I believe her name was Irene older African American lady. Just as sweet as can be. Tamesha love her always great to us each year. We did have the pleasure to meet Karen as well what a hoot morning,noon,and night always around making us laugh. Even brought us up some homemade cookies for the kids she made herself. My son who is 12 had a book report to write while on break. Karen took time out of her evening and said ok I will help you do it. Now that was just upon n beyond especially considering it was on Anne Frank. I don't know where she came from n who found her. But she is a GEM! As well as Tamesha and Irene. You all made our stay very special this holiday.Thank you

I needed a place that could handle a medium size dog and this hotel worked great for that. It was also great because you could just go out the back and take a lovely walk on the beach. The bed was very comfortable. The room was a little dirty and a little smelly but I think this was b/c it was designated a "pet" room. The off-season price was just fine. Also, it was very easy to get to and close to major highways.

This is my 2nd stay at this location. The staff is super friendly, attentive, and accommodating. The hotel is in a great central location. The view was awesome. Very close to the Navy base but far enough away to avoid the traffic. A great landing spot for rest, but close enough to go anywhere without a long drive. This will always be our hotel of choice when visiting Norfolk.

The facility itself wasn't bad, it was on the beach, had a good breakfast & the check in staff was friendly. However the fridge did not work properly (everything froze, even on the right temp) & the maids came around knocking on the door at 9am. I understand they have a job & they'd like to get it done, but don't go around knocking on doors at 9am!! People paid good money to have a peaceful relaxing stay, not get woken up because of your noisy carts & you knocking on doors because you're ready to go home.

We specifically selected this hotel for its dog friendly status. Traveling with animals limits ones options and this hotel surpassed expectations. I liked that it is a smoke free - PROPERTY and pet friendly and water front and reasonably priced. The reservation staff was very helpful booking 3 rooms with different requirements and getting them close together. The building and décor is a little dated but the other amenities made up for the lived in appearance. I would definitely return.

If you want to get away with your best love; this is one of the places to stay at for a nice quiet get away. All you hear is the the bay front water all day and night. Even when a thunderstorm had came on my last day; it was a great sight during the night hours and you can see the Chesapeake Bay Bridge at a distance from the beach.

Good room for the price. Kind of an isolated area, but not far driving wise from the destinations you probably need to go in Norfolk. Very helpful and courteous staff. Nice view of the beach from my room. Lobby food amenities could be better. Not much in the way of eateries nearby, but the staff can recommend local restaurants that are pretty good. Had an issue with the wake up calls, but not a big deal. I'd go back there again.

This is the second time we've stayed here. It was ok the first time too, but we've never been overly excited. This time was a little more difficult... We stayed in a king suite.. REALLY small two rooms and the bathroom was tiny. Maybe I was just expecting too much, but... The King Balcony room that we had the last time was FAR larger. The noise level was almost unbearable. I realize that the hotel can't really be responsible for the noise that other guests make, but perhaps a little sound-proofing would go a long way. I could literally hear every conversation that took place outside, in normal tones... I could hear the neighbors popping the top of their beer cans, the doors slamming, carts rumbling down the sidewalk, heck, one night I was SURE someone was moving furniture above us! The housekeeping really left something to be desired on this trip as well. We stayed four nights and the garbage didn't get emptied until the morning of the fourth night. The sink, tub, and toilet didn't get touched until at least the third day. It was never vacuumed. The bed was made every day, but they didn't even bother to pick up the little decorative pillow from the floor at the foot of the bed on the first two mornings. Didn't replace the in-room coffee items the last two days either. The location was perfect for us as it is only a few blocks away from relatives. The location on the beach might be great during better weather, but we didn't get to enjoy that this time around. I'm not sure we'll be staying here again though. The location doesn't really balance out all of the other issues. I think we'll be staying elsewhere on our next trip.

I stayed here twice in September, the 2nd time was much better (the first time was right after Labor Day, and I guess they sprayed for bugs because we saw a couple! Yikes!) Both times I met a friend who was driving up the East Coast and needed to stop overnight on her trip before continuing on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel..so we met for girls night out and gabbed into the night! The views were spectacular and we enjoyed our coffee on the balcony, and also sitting around the outdoor pool. We were lucky to have good weather both times. The AARP discount brought the price down to a very reasonable rate (we split it, so it was about $55 each for the night.) Beds were comfortable, and the rooms were clean (well, except for that one incident on the first stay, we saw two roaches! But we recovered, and it wasn't bad enough to prevent us from going back a second time - which turned out to be bugless!) They seem to have a pretty good free breakfast, although neither of us indulged, we were happy to just have coffee and a few snacks we'd brought. Appreciated the fridge in the room, too.

I was in Norfolk for the USS Cole Memorial service on Monday, October 12 and stayed here on Sunday, October 11. The décor of the hotel both from the outside and inside was great. We stayed in the towers which offered a beautiful view of the ocean and skyline. Room was super clean and very fresh. Tameska at the front desk offered several places to eat.

After finding this hotel in 2004 when my daughter began college in Norfolk, this will be my last visit. I have been very disappointed in how the service and hotel facilities have not been kept up as I think they should have been. And I have found reporting a complaint does no good. They smile and listen very attentively but then proceed to ignore your complaint and offer no accommodations or assistance.

When we walked up to the front desk, I was worried when they said, "You're really staying HERE for 7 days???" When I saw the room, I knew I was right to be worried. I had no idea this was a motel because of the misleading pictures on their site. One site even said it was a mid-range hotel! The staff were very kind, offering to upgrade us to a nicer ocean view suite when it opened up. Unfortunately, the noise from neighbors coughing, flushing toilets, taking showers, and slamming doors plus the traffic outside and the AC unit that sounded like a dying beast mating with a possessed train made it impossible to sleep. There were also strange lights coming through the drapes and blinds which wouldn't close. Not to mention the neighborhood; we walked down the street to find a restaurant and made sure we left before it got dark. Fortunately, we only had to stay 1 night. Once we found out how horrible it was, we found an open rental condo in Virginia Beach, got a refund for our stay at best Western minus 1 night, and spent the rest of our vacation overjoyed to get a good night's sleep. I feel tricked into choosing this motel, and not only will we never stay at a Best Western again, we will tell our friends to avoid this chain of motels.

I selected this hotel because of its location (in Norfolk and on the beach). Our family was in town to welcome our Sailor home from a 7 month deployment in the Middle East. We were looking forward to family fun on the beach, grilling on the sun deck and maybe even a dip in the pool. It rained from check in to check out. Aside from the fact that the room was overpriced for the time of year (not peak season), the rugs and upholstered furniture was old and FILTHY. We kept our feet covered and put sheets down on the furniture. We had two rooms. In my son's room the ceiling in the bathroom leaked until it flooded the floor. We called maintenance and they said the upstairs guest had taken a shower without closing the curtain. They offered no cleanup or repair. The check in clerk was probably tired when she checked us in that evening, but so were we. I had driven 7 hours and then waited several more for my son's flight. He was literally on planes for 24 hours. The clerk was curt, bordering on rude. My son wanted to pay for my room, but was not allowed until check out and then when he questioned about the difference in our room rates (for the same room)-he paid half what I did, he was told that it had to do when I booked the room. He was treated poorly and told that at ten minutes past the check out time (he was waiting in a long line) that they could charge us an additional day's rate. We were happy to leave. We didn't let the hotel staff or the rain get us down. We are so happy to have our Sailor home and we had a great family weekend despite the conditions.

We loved the view of the beach and the sleep was so peaceful. it was quiet and pleasant. We will definitely book our stay at a Best Western for another trip. I don't get to take vacations as much as I want but getting away for a couple days at a place so relaxing makes it worth the moments I can take off.
