Best Western Plus Hotel Dragon Gate Inn, Los Angeles

Room was on small side of Best Western rooms I have stayed. Repair problem. The smoke detector was lying on the ground. Front desk gave me 30 minutes of extra check out time when I asked for 1 hour. This was so as not to inconvenience the cleaning ladies. There was an over $18 parking fee added on to my room rate (am a Platinum Rewards cutomer.) First time this was done in my decades long relationship with Best Western. This was not calculated in the online web materials.

Hello Kdeetz: Sorry you thought our rooms were small. They are actually bigger than most rooms in Downtown Los Angeles. Just like all major cities, parking is a premium. All properties charge for parking. We don't have a late check out for the maids. We have a late check out because we are sold out all the time and need the time to clean the rooms to get them ready for the next customer. We stayed in the ADA room and there was plenty of space to move around. Although there is free parking, no one displayed a handicap placard, so I was forced to park in the aisle way. Also there doesn't seem to be 1:1 parking space for all the guests. I was disappointed at all the people smoking in front of their rooms, which made our room smell like smoke. The room was clean and comfortable. We would like to come back after the cafe and gym are finished with their remodel. It would be nice if the hotel made the smoking section outside of the hotel rather than the atrium. I am sure it would make a cleaner environment for all.

We've stayed here before and returned because of the location and clean, nice hotel. We were able to walk to the Cathedral and Angel Flight (about 1 mile). Sadly, many Chinatown businesses are shut down. The hotel's local shops area all boarded up. I hope people will stay here and help honor and revive economy in this area.

I stayed here recently and was quite surprised. The staff was kind and accommodating, room was spacious, and the complimentary breakfast was pretty good. Definitely a prime location, being a walk away from all the food Chinatown has to offer. I would stay here again the next time I'm visiting LA!

I had a fantastic stay at the Dragon Gate Inn. The staff was very accommodating, breakfast was delicious, and room was spotless. Easy in and out of the garage. I'll be staying here again on my next visit.

Liars, combative, makes promises and does not deliver. Working on a film and a cast member was staying at the hotel. He secured the reservation on his own and I (in the production office) called to change the card info on file so I would be charged. I called several times as the front desk person was busy “with customers” and asked me to call back later. I was finally able to make the change over the phone on a Friday night days before the cast member was to check in. I asked if I needed to come in and was told no. Fast forward to Monday where I'm told the cast member was given a hard time because of the card change. I needed to call and speak with the manager. I called at 3:45 and was told the manager is the only person who could help me and she wasn't going to be in until tomorrow... this saga is too long to write but to sum it up I WILL NEVER, EVER STAY AT THIS HOTEL OR BOOK IT FOR ANYONE!

Arrived at Dragon Gate Best Western from train station as it is convenient and close. Large spacious Room. Quiet, safe and well organized. Breakfast good. Walked to Chinese restaurant for dinner - felt safe and this was a pleasant surprise.

A surprise. Hotel close to train station. Room big, bright and quiet. Breakfast adequate. Felt safe throughout including walking to Chinese restaurant in the evening. Excellent for and a surprise as it was in downtown Los Angeles.

Convenient and clean hotel and good parking but did not care for paying $15 per night for parking. The parking attendant was superb. The front desk clerks were also very helpful. The rooms were very clean the bed was a little hard.

I stayed here for a conference. We booked late and everything was sold out. The hotel was clean and the location worked well. We had to drive/Uber to the convention center but overall it never took too long. Free breakfast in the morning.

Everyone affiliated with the hotel was extremely helpful, especially the parking attendant, and desk reception person. My room was clean, and I felt safe, within the grounds. The immediate area has many interesting things to see within a short walking distance.

Location was excellent, and room was very well appointed, very clean. A big plus was that they allowed our pet dog to stay for a nominal fee. Valet parking was convenient, with in and out privilege. We only wish the internet connection was more stable.

Great location, ideally located in Chinatown, You are within walking distance of all kinds of cool sights, shops, restaurants, and historical markers. It is only a 15 minute walk to the LA Metro Union Station as well. from Metro you can be anywhere in the region within minutes, even Hollywood BLVD.

Good location as it is close to the highway and Dodger Stadium. We were greeted warmly. Our room was very comfortable and quite spacious. Vanity area was small and the bathroom was small but it is an older hotel. Parking is valet only but was not a problem although space is limited. Breakfast was adequate. Good variety of restaurants in the area. Decent experience.

Stayed overnight after a basketball game at the Staples Center. This hotel is a good distance from most L.A. attraction. Also very conveniently located in Chinatown if you want to walk around. However, they do charge a daily parking rate of $15 a day. I wasn't impressed with the front desk. Not very helpful. I'm a gold member, but I noticed that the gold member "treat" was not in the room also. When I asked the front desk, they just blew it off even thought the display for the reward basket was sitting up front. I do have to say that they did a nice job with the breakfast. The servers there were attentive and helpful. Also, the person in the front desk when I left seemed to be more on top of it. Rooms were kind of smaller for a best western plus in comparison to the other BW Plus that I have stayed at, but maybe it's the location. I like the location so I may give it a try a second time.

the experience was great. Reception employees were welcoming. Though there was a less space for car parking; I guess they arranged for valet parking, 24 hours. Breakfast variety was good. Chef himself/herself used to wait outside to get feedback from the customers.

Hotel was clean and right in the heart of the asian area of Los Angeles. I found the beds to be uncomfortable and the breakfast variety was not great nor well stocked. Be advised there is underground parking so if your driving an oversized vehicle you might not fit. The staff were all kind and helpful they were the best part of the stay.

Stayed there 2 week-end nights around a dance event we were attending nearby at the Red Cat Performance space and a business meeting, it became one of LEAST memorable stays there! Yes, the small hotel is located very close and in some cases by walking distance, to several excellent and decent prices Chinese restaurants, the Los Angeles renovated downtown section, Amtrak's major train station, 3 major museums, Little Tokyo and the famous Frank Gehry performance hall which hosts the LA Philharmonic Orchestra but also conveniently located within a mini-size commercial plaza which also includes a postal office, a pharmacy, a nail/hair saloon type store and a convenience store, where free breakfast used to be taken by the Best Western Dragon Hill hotel guests till its breakfast room opened. Two floors of rooms will bright yellow and red colors, some of the rooms can be a bit dark although very large sometimes, depending where located on the 2nd or 3rd floor, for which sometimes it is faster to use the steps to reach the ground floor and lobby. The 2-night long stay could have been OK if we could have access to a PLUNGER in the middle of the night/early morning as that single item CANNOT be used before 8 am and after the maintenance staff get's back to work at the hotel. Yes, a stomach flu or an upside down/hurting stomach as a result of food poisoning can happen any time of the day! Have stayed many times at this hotel during the past 5 or 6 years but this December 2019 one will be kept in my memory as the worst one and for a while!

I'm sure there's some $600/night hotel nearby, but if you want a great view of city hall, a clean room, a wonderful decor outside, and a great price; then you're not going to do any better than here! The rooms are modernly decorated and clean, The receptionist at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. It's also walking distance from Olvera Street, and Union Station.

Dragon Gate Inn was fantastic. With two rooms reserved, the reservation desk made sure we got two adjoining rooms just as we requested. Other hotels would not guarantee our rooms would be together. The price is very reasonable and the service is always fantastic. Thank you!

Just around the block is the loading/unloading area of the SHUTTLE BUS that travels to LAS VEGAS. The bus leaves at Chinatown area 6:45am so this is your best hotel stay option just 4minutes WALKING...then on your return trip back to LOS ANGELES from Las Vegas the bus again unloads here at about 7:30 evening so easy to go back again to the hotel and they do accept luggage safekeeping

My car was broken into the first night I stayed. The only thing taken was my old ipad and the attendant for the parking garage suggested I go get the video from the front desk. The young lady at the front desk(I believe her name was Jocelyn) says it's no problem so, I wait. No follow up. I go down again to ask for the video. I was ask for more specific times of the incident and that I would be informed of what happened. No follow up. The following day I go down to speak to the front desk because maybe they had the video by then. I spoke to Stephanie and she just blew me off by just giving me the phone number of the company that runs the parking garage. After insisting that I get the video, that i didnt even want in the first place. She acquiesces, and takes the times of the incident. She calls later saying that she saw nothing happen to my car. Things were very obviously missing and my car was ransacked! I say that that is impossible so she offers to send me the video via email. No follow up. Now worst of all was the boy at the front desk, Melvin. When I approached the front desk, he was watching videos on his phone flirting with some girl. Fine. I bring up the issue and he becomes immediately defensive. Strange. As I start to tell him my situation, he then begins to speak very rudely and insult me in front of my partner. I leave the front desk very angry. Then I over hear the front desk agent tell another guest about my situation. Later I see him insulting me behind my back to the garage attendant. I was done. I wanted to speak to a manager. So I did so in the morning. I spoke to Brenda the Front desk manager. As I spoke stephanie was overhearing and begins to butt in very rudely and starts to raise her voice, in front of her manager! And brenda did nothing. I told her my situation. And Brenda did nothing. I told her how her staff treated me and brenda did nothing. All I got was a blank stare and an empty apology. Dispite this incident, the breakfast staff was amazing and the house keepers did a hell of a job I cant in good conscience recomend this hotel. I was disrespected, mistreated, and insulted.

We stayed at the Hollywood Best Western Plus last year, and it was so nice that we trusted the Best Western Plus brand enough to try this place in Chinatown. What a mistake. * The room and bathroom were clean but I've seen more personality in hospital rooms. Beige. Black. Melamine. Absolutely institutional. * The elevator was set up to require you to use your card to access the upper floors for security purposes, but that wasn't working. * As I waited in line to check out, I heard the man in front of me arguing with the front desk because his car had been broken into in the hotel garage. He asked for a discount but they refused. * The bed sheets are horrible, horrible polyester. Sleep on plastic :-/ * The air conditioner didn't work when we first got to the room. A circuit breaker had to be reset. * The eggs in the steam table at breakfast were disgusting. The scrambled eggs were sitting in an inch of water, and the fried eggs were stored in their sides, hard and rubbery. * There was also a notification posted next to the elevator that said construction was ongoing in the first floor from 8am - 6pm daily and noise should be expected. The hotel did not mention this on their website. What a cheap shot. * There was loud music playing downstairs which we could hear in our room till around 11pm, but it was quiet after that. * The only good thing I can say about this hotel is that if you go around the block to the other side there's some pleasant Chinatown shopping and restaurants. We'll never stay here again.

Very close to Downtown LA. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are comfortable,although the bed was a little firm for my taste. Also, although we were in a suite there was a bit of road noise. We went to the Ahmanson Theater and felt comfortable walking the 1 mile back to the hotel at 10 pm. At $15 the parking is reasonably priced. I have stayed here a few times and will do so again.

I love Best Westerns. However, upon arriving I realized they were undergoing a remodel. Not a big deal, but I wish I'd been informed of that when booking. Noise from 8am through 5pm 7 days a week. The vending machine was broken on my floor so I had to drink tap water. Then the elevator broke down and I had to walk up to floor 3 which is difficult because I'm not well (surgeries and such). Thicker walls would be nice as I was given quite a show courtesy of my neighbors late at night. There was a confusion with my booking as I had changed my plans and changed the number of nights via a phone call to a customer service rep. The customer service rep (she was very nice) acted like everything was taken care of. Until I was called to the front desk saying I was late to checkout as I had only “booked for one night”. Not a great stay. Too bad as it's now deterring me from staying at a BW ever again. :(

plus the staff was friendly, helpful and on top of things - especially the breakfast area. We found the beds to be comfortable and the location was ideal for being able to get around on public transportation and we did also use the underground parking and found the attendant to be courteous and helpful. Would definitely stay here again if staying downtown.

Upon arrival, I was worried I may have made a mistake in picking this place. The front looked a little seedy, and major construction on the building was underway. I arrived early and used the hotel PC while I waited for a room. Bottom line: on balance, was good for the one night. STAFF: All front desk staff members were friendly, professional, and helpful. But: a guy looking like an employee or construction worker was sitting back, smoking a cancer stick in the courtyard, and nothing was done about it. The building has outdoor corridors lining the cement courtyard, with rooms facing in on either side, so the whole area reeked of smoke. BUSINESS SERVICES: One of the 2 PCs was clearly not working, and the other kept trying (unsuccessfully) to dial up a broadband connection. The display on the working PC was also out of whack, way too big for the screen. Since I had time to kill, I fixed the Internet connection & computer display, with the text medium-sized, for older guests. Until they make the Control Panel inaccessible to guests, don't expect a working PC. PERKS: Being a BW rewards member (free), I got to choose either a boatload of points or a small (nice!) gift bag of snacks. Took the bag, which also included two water bottles. BTW, there's a place to refill your own water bottles, in the breakfast area. TIP: learn the emergency exit route, at least in case you can't use the elevator (only one). Getting out by stairs was a bit confusing. ROOM: The room smelled a bit musty and at first glance, looked really out-of-date. However, I think it was just a poor choice of carpet. (They should fire their interior designer. The smell later dissipated.) Upon closer inspection, it was evident that all the tile and fixtures–including door handles–were new. (See photos.) There was even a rain head shower, if you like them. (I prefer strong water pressure.) There was a small balcony, but what looked like gnats were swarming there, so I didn't open the door. The remote had been sanitized. NOISE: Construction noise was loud but could have been worse. You can hear your neighbor's A/C unit humming. There's street noise and an elementary school of screaming kids nearby. Not a place for peace & quiet during the day, and cars occasionally rumble by at night. OVERALL: Very clean and still new, despite being furnished like a 70s motel room. I had to leave before breakfast, but the front desk had already prepared a “grab & go” bag with an apple, granola bars, and a bottle of water. Only due to noise, not a place for an extended stay, otherwise one of the best in its class.

This is a nice clean hotel with comfortable, updated rooms. The bed and pillows made for a great night sleep, the shower has a giant rain head with plenty of pressure and hot water. The staff was super polite. The breakfast was hot and offered a good variety to start the day. This hotel is easy walking distance to Union Station (all Amtrak arrivals/departures were easily met) plus is just a block or two from a metro station. I did not walk at night, I took a $6 Uber ride from Union Station. I walked during the daytime and was completely comfortable. I was weary about booking a hotel in L.A. with all the stories you hear about the neighborhoods and we do not like staying in them either. But this place turned out to be perfect for us. The rooms were very clean and neat, the neighborhood felt safe and everyone around was pleasant. The staff was very understanding and helpful, especially when we wanted to extend our stay last minute. We were able to stay in the same room. The breakfast is great. So many selections and if you see Anna there it's like you're at home. She personally tends to everyone and keeps it all clean and she is so sweet. Not to mention there are so many stores and restaurants around the place.

My husband and I celebrated our 20th anniversary and had a great time! The property was super clean. It was quiet and everyone was friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was fantastic! The location was great too! We walked to Dodger Stadium from the hotel. I highly recommend this property!

We booked our room on late notice, but I didn't see anywhere that the hotel was under construction. A sign at the elevators says that guests may be without water at some times during the day. Also that workers may be loud during 9am to 5pm. I must say parking was easy and our rooms were clean. I wrote on our check-in that we wanted to arrive at 130pm, but they did not allow us to check in until 3pm. The staff was otherwise nice. I just wish there would have been a warning about the construction. The free breakfast was ok with coffee, juice, scrambled eggs and has browns and pancake and waffle machines.

We stayed here as a family of four for two nights. We loved the size and cleanliness of the rooms, really great for families. The rooms were modern and newly decorated. They have fridges and coffee makers which is always good. However the area isn't brilliant but I can't fault the hotel ! We weren't keen on LA in general ( we visited a few cities on our stay and this was our least favourite) but if you want a clean, friendly hotel with large rooms I would recommend this hotel - by far the nicest rooms on our road trip.

The place has an awkward entry area , but u get used to it. The underground parking is nice I had no problem getting in and out. They will move a vehicle if necessary. The rooms are clean, large, great shower head. Restroom remodeled. Hd tv. It was convenient location for the concert at dodger stadium. great Chinese food good down west on Hill st is Great seafood Restaurant is recommenced. Considering Best Western which is s budget chain they did a good job. I left before breakfast which is included.

My 2 Sisters and I stayed on Sunday. To our dismay, the parking fee of $15.00 is outrageos and they refused to waive the fee with a Disabled Plackard. The employee failed to understand that the Public off the street should be charged for events, of course, but to charge hotel guest and Disabled guests is outrageous. The price of the room was $186.00. Very disappointed.

After travel plans changed, we showed up at the front desk without a reservation asking for a one night reservation. We wete charged more than twice the rate advertised on this site with the explanation that there was a "convention" nearby. What a rip off. We came all the way from New Jersey to Los Angeles and we were greeted by a very repulsive attitude by a staff member named Stephanie. She would argue with us on everything and even asked us to leave the hotel and that she didn't care. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

Staff were really helpful, quick check in, great suggestions for restaurants, large modern room, which was very clean, comfortable large beds and super clean bathroom. Breakfast was included, there were many options even options for me who has food allergies. Overall it was a very comfortable and pleasant experience. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Good place to experience old Chinatown, try some Chinese food. The hotel provides breakfast which is good. The hotel is clean and the team members are kind and answer questions thoughtfully. It's close to LA downtown to easy tour a few major sightseeings

The hotel is a bit far from the main streets like hollywood walk of fame and rodeo drive but since we were in a car it was ok. It's in a quite China town street, it clean and without a main Chinese decor. The breakfast it a major plus in this hotel, it's very good and with great variety the Wi-Fi works very well. We'll return for this hotel if ever came back.

This place was an excellent choice for an overnight stay while doing a game at Dodger Stadium. China Town is very unique and the hotel operators made us feel completely at home. A big shout out to Johnny who works the parking garage which is in the basement of the hotel. Johnny was so friendly and professional that he makes all other valet parking experts look like cub scouts. You're the best Johnny! The hotel is aged but the owners are doing a great job keeping up with the times. Nice wood floors in our room give the place a clean look. Recently remodeled bathroom was nicely done with the limited space available. Glad we stayed here as Dodger Stadium is a very short drive away. Keep up the good work Dragon Gate!

Stayed here for a day on a recent visit to LA. The only positive thing about this hotel is the clean rooms. The hotel is not in a good location. The reception looks more like a hostel reception.Its around 10min walk to the union station from which you can connect via Metro to downtown LA and other tourist attractions. Everyone says its not safe after 830pm to go out of the hotel. Not recommending.

The staff that I encountered were great and very helpful. They offered plenty of great options and suggestions. My main gripe was that it appeared to be a motel but I was not able to tell that when I booked it. When you step outside of your room you are outside. It also would have been helpful to have the channel lineup. Other than that it was a great stay. Great location! I would stay again if in the area.

Booked two nights n for an employee of mine through the reservation line and was told he could process the charges over the phone (I found this odd, since every other hotel I've booked for employees requires a credit card authorization form-he reassured me he could do it). When my employee showed up at the hotel, with only her debit card, she was told she would have to pay for it herself. I spoke to Alcius (sp?) and he reiterated company policy over and over to me, refused to correct the mistake Best Western made and then hung up on me. I sent over the credit card authorization form and they said they would process and refund her money. It is a week later and the company credit card was processed and our employee hasn't received the refund in her personal account. Spoke to manager Joanie, who apologized and sent us something stating that the refund was processed, but it hasn't. Here's my traveler's tip: Oh, and when you call to speak to a specific person, they have usually "just stepped out" until you make it clear you are upset. Then you get transferred to that person, who happens to stepped back in and already at their desk.

The hotel - in the heart of Chinatown - was decent but all night long I heard doors slamming/closing, people talking etc. This is one property that could really benefit from double doors to enter each room. Since room access is from outside (i.e. no inside corridors), there aren't a lot of option to reduce outside noise other than double doors.

They upgraded me to a better room because I was a BW member. WiFi worked fine & room was clean, but air conditioning didn't work. I called down to the night clerk and all she could say was non else has complained. If you aren't going to train your staff, you could leave some operating instructions. Won't stay again.

Great location, and very friendly/professional staff. The room was large, clean and welcoming. There is a $15 parking charge for guests, but well worth it with the limited street parking in the area. The free breakfast was good, a basic BW type layout. The wifi was great had no issues. Will stay here again!

Thin walls and doors, neighboring room wasn't overly loud but we could definitely hear their conversations. There was a surprise $15 charge to park our car and had to leave keys with attendant, and staff did not mention we wouldn't be able to drive out after 10am because streets would be closed. Breakfast was mediocre compared to Best Western standards. Internet kept cutting out on our devices, medium signal strength when connected.

This is an example how the small faults can spoil the good impression. The location is fine, close to downtown and not far from the metro station. The service is perfect, also the room was big. But: - There was a tobacco smell in the room - although the hotel is no-smoking - The WiFi was unstable, and I hardly could use it.

This is a unique set up in chinatown. parking is very tight and you must use elevators to go up to reception and your room- ie, no stairs. The room was small and basic. Again, location for our purposes was good .

Great front office staff, custodians, breakfast operaqtion, and most helpful & trustworthy parking valet. And only a 15 minute walk to the Courthouse! Perfect location next to the entrance to all of Chinatown's amenities including shops, restaurants, and more. Been here several times and it is always a treat.

I can only review what I saw, but the power was out for much of my visit. Room seemed clean based on the light from my phone. Halls and stairs were unsafe due to lack of emergency lighting. Front desk staff was indifferent to the issues - very unhelpful. I had to carry my bags up four flights of stairs. Really thought I deserved some sort of bill adjustment, but none was mentioned when checking out so I just left - never to return. Too many other choices that actually want my business.

Stayed here 1/17/2019. Got in late at night. I was told they were having issues with the power and it would be fixed within an hour. It was out my entire stay. No backup power. I used the light on my iPhone and got changed. I didn't use the restroom due to it being so dirty my feet were sticking to the ground upon arriving. This place is awful. Stay away! I only stayed here because it was paid by work. 0/5!

Before entering my room, I was worried I was going to regret staying here. However, I loved my stay. The hotel does not look fancy on the outside but in the inside it is very nice and clean. All of the hotel staff was very helpful, especially the parking lot attendants and breakfast attendants. Parking is kind of like valet, leaving your key with the attendant and is $15 and lets you go in and out so its not bad. I thought breakfast was very good, having many options such as pancakes, waffles, bagels, muffins, yogurt, cereal, and more. The only downside I would have to say is the noise, but it is tolerable. You do hear many noises due to thin walls but it is not that bad. I was very surprised in the end how good of a stay I had and will definitely stay here again when visiting Los Angeles. Less than 10 minutes to drive to the Staples Center.

The room stays cold often because the thermostat in the heater is off, there are no microwaves in the room--which at the price the property asks is inexcusable. The shower well leaks water because of the lack of a proper curtain, nearly causing my father to slip and hurt himself--a whole lot of corner Cutting made the stay unpleasant. When the issue was raised with the general manager--Brenda, we were told to stay somewhere else if we didn't like it. Despite the fact that we've spent over 30k staying with the properties managed by her, we were told the amount we've spent doesn't matter. Avoid this place if you can- they don't care about you. Just your money.

Another wonderful BW experience... the staff were wonderful. I was so exhausted from my travels and lack of sleep for over 48 hours, that all I did was crash on the comfy bedThe room and bathroom was spotless thanks to Jenny, who also volunteered to help me with my bags at checkout...I was traveling alone and this BW was perfect. I had a very long flight in to LA, then the next morning I took Amtrak from Union Station.. WOW the location was perfect.I am looking forward to coming there another time and enjoying the hotel amenities and the interesting places in walking distance also...

We stayed one night at the Best Western Plus Dragon Gate Inn, in Chinatown, LA. We choose this location primarily because it was close to our daughter's apartment. The hotel was ok. It was clean and rooms were ok. We booked with our points to I'm glad we didn't have to pay to stay here. We didn't have any issues. Being a Best Western Plus I expected the breakfast to be better. The food didn't look good and thought the quality was poor. When we check out no one asked how our stay was. Very little communication from the staff. They do charge $15 to park. We stayed at two other Best Western Plus's on this visit, one in Palm Springs and one in Manhattan Beach and this one hotel would rank #3 out of them.

The hotel is beautiful. The noise is not so beautiful. If you like to sleep - probably don't stay here. Besides the noise level - the WiFi is spotty and the elevator situation a bit confusing. We had been at the hotel for a bit - up and down from our room on the second floor several times and then suddenly we couldn't access our floor and were asked if we swiped our keycard. In Chinatown, but walking distance from Downtown and the transport links. Themed in Chinese fashion and at the end of a tiny Chinese shopping mall, we were warmly greeted and soon found our room. The rooms are on walkways surrounding the mall, and are spacious and well equipped with a sitting area. The breakfast was excellent, served in a spacious room and well maintained/topped up at all times. Not expensive considering it was near downtown.

We stayed here for Game 4 of the World Series. It was a perfect location for games at Dodger Stadium. The front desk staff recommended Yang Chow Restaurant for our first night's dinner. The food there was terrific and very close to authentic Chinese food. The breakfast at the hotel was a great start to each day. The breakfast staff is so friendly! The workout room is adequate and available 24 hours a day. The room was spacious and clean. We enjoyed the added touch of complimentary drinks, popcorn, and peanuts at the front desk during each afternoon of our stay. I don't know if they do this when the Dodgers are not playing a home game, but it was a neat touch nonetheless (even though we were there as Red Sox fans!). Uber pickup was always 1-2 minutes from the time we requested it. We would definitely stay at this hotel again! I rated the value as Very Good vs. Excellent simply because I think the price of the rooms was a little inflated due to the World Series being in town. Even so, the prices were in line with what other hotels were charging so we didn't have a problem paying the advertised rate.

Parking is 15.00 a day/night. In downtown LA so reasonable. We were upgraded to a 1 BR suite using my Best Western rewards points. It was nicely furnished and very big and spacious. We were in the heart of China Town and it was culturally interesting. Very clean and the breakfast was good which was included in price of Room.

I was impressed with the cleanliness of this hotel although it seemed like an older building. I even looked in the corners and shower no mold whatsoever. I received a very friendly welcome from the staff. The breakfast had plenty of variety. But, the eggs didn't taste real, very artificial like. The breakfast room had plenty of seating for everyone. I felt very comfortable here, would return but would skip the eggs for breakfast.

We were going to Microsoft Theater to attend an event and this was a good and reasonable price for a room. we also love the clean room and the service especially the staffs in breakfast room. The only draw back is parking fee, but I think you have to expect that on most hotel in downtown LA.

Check in was easy, parking underneath hotel for $15/night--the cheapest I have seen in LA! Employees were helpful and friendly, rooms were clean and spacious. Great location in middle of Chinatown, 10 minute walk to Olvera St., not far from Dodger Stadium, and around the corner from Yang Chow, the BEST Chinese restaurant I have ever been to in my LIFE!! (Get the Slippery Shrimp!)

I loved the service and breakfast was great and rooms were spotless. My only issue was the parking garage which had low-hanging pipes which did $900 damage to my car. The garage attendant who directed me did not warn me.

Typical budget Best Western chain hotel, but no complaints. Rooms were spacious and clean with comfortable beds. Staff were helpful and friendly and there was convenient parking. It's a perfect place to stay if you want to visit Chinatown and it's great restaurants. The only let down was the inclusive breakfast. Whilst being wholesome and adequate, the kitchen struggled to keep up with guests needs and you had to wait for individual items to be cooked, by which time the other contents of your plate were cold. I was not impressed with the paper plates, cups and plastic knives and forks either. Not particularly environmentally friendly.

Downtown LA hotels are fairly expensive. Dragon Gate is very close to downtown LA and a good location from where you can easily set off to any direction. Rooms are reasonably priced. Rooms are very clean and large. Very helpful staff. Quick check in. Complimentary bottled water which is so handy. Very decent breakfast to start your day. I recommend.

Seemingly cute and adorned with chinese decorations, this place is definitely a tourist trap, as it certainly was for my partner and me. What was supposed to be a leisurely trip to Los Angeles for the Labor Day weekend turned out to be a nightmare. Not only was it a deserted ghost town (both day and night)- but my room faced the back of a remote building with many dumpsters, the beds were cheap and uncomfortable where I constantly felt the springs poking my back, but more alarmingly- I encountered rude, unprofessional, and prejudiced staff. After calling the front desk to have housekeeping come to clean my room, I was shocked by brazenness and lack of professionalism. They gossiped and spoke demeaningly about us in our native tongue of cantonese, not thinking that we understood every single of word of what they said! I just stood there frozen and appalled. The 2 ladies from housekeeping said they they hated their jobs and couldn't believe that we had the nerve to leave our Do not disturb notice on the door handle in the morning. And hated guests like us and that they had to come in the late afternoon to tidy our room! My partner and I just couldn't believe it. In all the years I've traveled, I have never experienced this level of discrimination. To make matters worse, when I brought my concerns to 3 different BW front desk employees, including Brenda, who stated she was the manager, she was defensive and boldly denied the accusations, telling me that she had never received complaints of her staff before. Honestly, what kind of unprofessional response is this? She did not even take the time to investigate my claims before shutting me down. She, herself, is non-Asian, so without speaking or understanding the cantonese chinese dialect, how can she even make such a preposterous claim? I was simply at a loss for words after that. The only saving grace of this place is the breakfast, as the staff that work there seem to genuinely love their job and care about the hotel guests staying there. I saw many food requests made of them, and they happily obliged to make guests feel special. Even so though, a tasty breakfast does not warrant the mistreatment and discrimination of guests. If I wasn't chinese myself, there would've been no way for me to understand or catch what they were saying. But as a hotel guest paying $200+/ night to stay there, there are way better hotels to stay at in DTLA. Plus, discrimination of ANY KIND is not okay and simply unacceptable. Please save yourselves the trouble of booking a room at this overpriced and poor excuse for a Best Western property.

This hotel is situated over a car park and within a small mainly empty shopping complex. The reception staff were excellent as was the car park man who went above and beyond. The rooms were adequate but clean and breakfast ok. Overall a very good but unusual hotel, slightly out of the centre.

From check-in to check-out you'd be hard pressed to find a friendlier, more accommodating staff. The rooms are not large, in fact the bathroom is very small. However regardless of the size, its functional with new fixtures. The room is spotless, its obvious the staff prides themselves in cleanliness. There are 3 floors on top of retail space laid out in a U shape. They do include a breakfast which has the usual choices. However, again its better than other complimentary breakfasts, due to awesome attendants!

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Best Western Plus Dragon Gate Inn in LA. We were in LA to see a show at a theatre downtown and this hotel was a short taxi ride away. The rooms are spacious and clean and the beds are very comfortable. Negatives are: the hotel front desk could not recommend a good Chinese restaurant that served food and drinks (beer and wine). As the hotel is located in Chinatown that seemed odd to me; the hotel is non smoking but the 2nd and 3rd floors had a large ashtray with 2 chairs beside it so people could smoke (there is a large open air courtyard in the middle of the hotel). If people want to smoke that badly they can go outside the hotel to do so; the hotel should offer real butter pats not just margarine at breakfast. Overall, a good place to stay.

Nice to see something more than a generic square box hotel. Like the oriental theme. Help was great, breakfast good, just skip the eggs. Location was right where I wanted to be. Really just stumbled upon the place, but I turned out to be the best place we stayed on our vacation. : )

Decent value, nice area, some good restaurants. Not too far from San Antonio Winery. Breakfast served, and also has a fitness room. Easy to find from the freeways. Has fun shopping nearby, and also a nice bakery, Phoenix.

I enjoy staying at this quaint hotel in China Town that is only minutes from my daughter. Convenient parking located at the hotel ($15 overnight). If you get there late at night, see no attendant, and notice orange cones blocking you from parking, just move the cone and park in the spot. This is done to save spaces for hotel guests. The staff is helpful and breakfast included in rate is a nice addition. I also like that I can walk just outside the hotel and get a great foot massage. Going across the street, one is able to get a back or body massage. The Imperial Suite is a wonderful accommodation; ask about it.

I stayed with my family on a Sunday during spring break. It was a little more down-at-the-heels than other Best Western Plus locations -- but earns the "plus" for me with a good, hot breakfast. Room was clean -- we had an adjoining door, and our neighbors were fairly loud (talking, TV noise) until about 10 & then quieted down. Parking was pretty easy, nice guys in the basement lot will need to double-park and valet your car due to space constraints. Good price, interesting Chinatown location w/ some cool shopping around the corner -- would stay again if needed a low-priced, downtown-adjacent stay.

Good location central 1 subwaystation from Union station. Nice breakfast. Spacy room (carpet to old). Clean. New bathroom.Wifi only worked outside the room! This part of Chinatown less coosier than other chinese communities.

I stayed at this hotel during NBA All-Star Weekend 2018. The hotel is located in Chinatown which is surprising close to downtown Los Angeles. It was an effortless commute the whole entire weekend. The hotel has a China theme and vibe going on. The pros about staying at this hotel are. The location from there to downtown Los Angeles is a short trip. The hotel staff is super friendly and very accommodating. It's the perfect location to explore Chinatown on foot or bike. The cons about staying at this hotel are. My first night staying there I was unable to get the A/C to work. I was told by staff that the A/C is set on a timer. The rooms are located outdoors and you can only access the floors by using your key. I paid for valet and I self-parked my car the whole stay. The valet employee was nice, friendly, and did not park my car once.

Disappointing stay. While staff was courteous and helpful, the hotel was not business traveler friendly. My room was not tidied up nor provided with fresh towels on the second day. While clean, the bed was sagging and uncomfortable. There were no convenient a/c outlets for computer/cell phone charging in the room (I had to use my own extension cord strung across the room to charge my cell phone at the bedside table). A small thing but there were no notepads/pens available in the room. Breakfast service was not open until 7:15 am, definitely inconvenient for a business traveler needing to be on the go first thing in the morning. I could not find soft drink or snack vending machines in the hotel, a convenience a business traveler needs.

We have extra ones located on the desk next to the television. As for the pens and note pads they are located in the desk drawer. Please in the future, just ask the front desk if you can't find anything. All Best Western properties are required to have these features. For your breakfast, we do have to go breakfast all ready at the front desk. Its just a grab and go. Vending machines are right in front of the elevator and also there is a convenience store right on the property. Please always just ask the front desk person. They will all help you enjoy your stay. We wanted to see Candide at the Dorothy Chandler but were unable to find accommodations in the immediate area, so we picked the Dragon Gate Inn in Chinatown on Hill Street. It is within walking distance from Union Station, the Dorothy Chandler, the museums and Grand Central Market. We felt safe although we have to be honest, our walks were during the day. We did go out at night for dinner, but only immediately around the Inn, and there we felt safe as well. The Inn is quite clean, with spacious, comfortable rooms. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Their advice on restaurants was excellent. We came by train, so we had no experience with the parking or the garage. We would definitely stay there again.

This was a last minute booking for us it was simple to book. Its in China town it has covered parking plenty of places to eat at. If you don't like Chinese food that's ok you can order something to your room for cheap. The rooms are very nice what you see in the pictures is what you get. It had plenty of room for me and my family. Down the block is the restaurant from rush hour. I would stay there again any time. Great breakfast options also.

BW in general has a good reputation, with the Dragon Gate hotel following their reputation. It's in a good location in the middle of China town, close to lots of different venues downtown. Rooms are very spacious, clean and modern. A better than average breakfast, will stay here again when in the area.

Great location, easy access- subways/bus/car rental because stations are walking distance. Cost of parking around hotel is cheap. Saw Malibu to Manhattan beach/ all sites in LA easily. EXCELLENT HOTEL- staff was kind, kept everything clean, breakfast decent. service equal to Ritz/4 seasons. Internet was good. Great value. Spacious rooms.

This Best Western is a great in every way. The decor and the feel of the hotel is peaceful and relaxing. From the hotel's exterior to the hotel's guest rooms, I have nothing bad to say about it. The beds were comfortable, the breakfast was outstanding and the most essential part of ANY hotel.. the employees. Every employee that I encountered was ALWAYS willing to assist, even if there was a language barrier between some of them. This hotel is a little hard to find (only cue when driving down the street is the big and high up red BW sign). Front lobby appearance was a little tacky, and it was kind of funny how it is positioned in the tiny mall. The room is nice, very well kept and modern looking. Staff are very nice and friendly. Its close to downtown and J-town. Free breakfast is nice. Great value.

We were evacuated from the Creek fires. We booked 2 nights at this hotel. Very comfortable. Close to many restaurants and close to work. We were happy to stay and the rate we were given was fair. We tried other hotels but very expensive in the area. This was definitely reasonable

Decent rate walking distance to restaurants, very good Chinese rest. nearby. Breakfast is quite good but would be better if served on real plates, which is uncommon in the US. Rooms are large, bathrooms nice. Location is China Town which is interesting. TV in rooms.

I spent one night at this hotel before a morning train from Union Station. The hotel is conveniently located in Chinatown less than one mile from Union Station. The desk clerks were very nice and they served a nice breakfast. The breakfast room staff was really nice allowing me in a few minutes early while they were still setting up. My room was large but oddly shaped. The bed was comfortable and the T.V. and Internet worked great. The bathroom was very small, especially the vanity area. It was a little noisy in the night. All the rooms open into an outdoor courtyard with shops on the first floor. The noise from the courtyard echoes and there was a bit of noise when a group returned to the hotel late at night.

I was a bit weary to stay at this hotel. However, from the moment I drove into the garage, I felt ok. The attendants were nice, room was comfortable (though traffic was audible) and breakfast was good. I would probably stay here again.

People on reception helpful and friendly, bedroom large as disabled room (only one left on boking). Very clean. Not best location as start of Chinatown. Not a lot to do and very limited on good restaurants. Nearest station about 20 minutes walk, which in searing heat not good. Public transport only other option. Doesn't have a bar, just a breakfast room and small room with 2 computers. Breakfast room although clean its a Throw away Hotel. Breakfast was quite good but very off putting with paper plates and plastic knives,forks,spoons and cups.coffee machine in room but paper cups! !!!! Cleaning staff cannot speak English. nothing to do in evening apart from restaurants. Went to one which had been recommended and it was very nice. The other couple of days went to an Italian restauran which again had been recommended but needed to get taxi. Area very sad and quite dirty

Howlin' Rays - its the newest rave restaurant Philip The Original - Little Jewel of New Orleans Chego Yang Chow Lasa - made the Jonathan Gold list Burger Lords - gourmet burgers. These restaurants are all with in walking distance. I'm sorry you went to the main terminal for Amtrak. There is actually a Chinatown Station that is right around the corner from us. Please, in the future. Always speak with any front desk person no matter which property you stay at. They will always know where to eat, where to catch the train, bus or in our case the DASH which is mini bus that serves Downtown Los Angeles. We booked this room directly through Best Western for a really reasonable rate. The room was huge and extremely clean. Even though it's off a busy road, it was extremely quiet. We couldn't check in early because they were booked, but they still let us use their bathroom early. I would definitely recommend this place!

We booked a room for an overnight stay after seeing an opera at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.This property is perfectly located for visiting the museums and concert halls on Grand Ave. A lot of reasonably priced restaurants within walking distance in the area (Chinatown). I believe that it's convenient to Dodger Stadium as well, as there were Dodger fans there for the playoff game during our stay. The room was very clean, seemed to have been recently renovated. There is a lot of space in the guestroom but the bathroom is quite small - almost no room around the sink to place or hang anything. They could have allocated the space a little better. Also the room had a refrigerator but no microwave.

Excellent price for the proximity to downtown LA. Very clean, nice decor, large room, extremely pleasant staff all around. My only complaint was the bed sagged slightly, but not uncomfortably so. Could probably use a replacement in the near future. We will definitely stay again if we're in the area.

I am a SOLO traveler and I was traveling since march. In USA most of the Hotels ask a deposit at the arrival. Everyday I changed hotel and if I need to hold a deposit on the credit card is just crazy because the bank hold the amount for days or months, on top of that, the credit card has limits as well, so make some payment will be a nightmare for who change everyday hotel. I asked at the Receptionist to take the payment of the room straight away and if they could take the deposit in cash but I was happy because they do not ask for a deposit at all. AMAZING! The Receptionist explained everything about the hotel, check in, check out, elevator and breakfast. The hotel is in Chinatown but it is quiet an clean. They have a private parking for $20 at night with video surveillance. They are very nice. The breakfast is included and is very good. In USA, in a lot of hotels, they do not have Breakfast included at all. Was a surprise. The rooms are big, clean and the bathroom was renovated. The hotel is central, you can walk to all museums and bars. I was supposed to stay one night but I decided to stay 2 nights because was one of the best quality/price/service hotel in Los Angeles area and I felt welcomed. The customer service was amazing, breakfast was amazing, rooms are perfect. I suggest this hotel for Solo travelers but also for couples and family. No suggestions at all for you. Thank you. Remember: The important thing for a client is to be helped and understood, the furnite is a must!

Negative: Smoking is allowed right outside non-smoking rooms. Smoke enters the non-smoking rooms. Our room was on a very noisy street, even though I asked for a quiet room. Positive: Rooms are very clean and good size. Breakfast staff are very polite and helpful.

This had a nice big room, open to the outside. Not seen that in a while. No view. Bed are ok but a little firm. Nice desk people. Short walk to a lot of Chinese Restaurant and of course China Town. Nice breakfast. I would stay there again, Union Sta within walking distance.

Rooms are clean, the front desk receptionists were very friendly and helpful, offered water bottles and cookies everyday. The hotel staff could not provide thin pillows when requested. The breakfast was all cooked in a microwave and the very friendly server confirmed it when asked, anyone could find it quickly from the food texture and after tasting it. The parking is in the basement and a parking attendant guides you to park and take out your car. No pool. The Hotel is located in Chinatown. A good Chinese restaurant, Yang Chow Restaurant, and other Chinese shops are located only a block away.

The higher the room#, the further away from Hill St. your room will be. Having no carpet in the room was a Big Plus for me. While I didn't go to China, I did go to Japan and the courtyard the hotel is wrapped around reminded of that backstreet/neighborhood ambiance I came to love during my time in Japan. And then of course, it's in Chinatown! Loved the shower. I'm 6'2" and I fit under the rain-drop type shower head! That didn't happen in many of the hotels I've gone to. Took a picture. Great morning buffet. Great people working there.

I was attending a sorority luncheon in Beverly Hills. It was difficult to find a Best Western in the area that took pets. I have a welsch corgi and they take pets. When I checked in, they gave me a bag with dog treats and a cute plastic bone filled with poop bags.

The hotel's location is a definite "plus" with Union Station and Gold Line Chinatown metro stop nearby. Besides the metro and train connections at Union Station, both the Dodgers Express and the FlyAway bus to LAX also stop there. Its location affords easy public transport to Universal Studios and Hollywood by the Red metro line as well Good breakfast, nice variety of hot and cold foods. Being on the edge of Chinatown, there are plenty of good eating options (Chinese food) in the area. The area around the hotels seems a bit dodgy but we did not feel unsafe at any time. The hotel itself has very good security.

We also have the DASH mini bus which just circulates in Downtown Los Angeles and runs every 5 minutes from 6 am to 6 pm for $0.50 per person. Loved the decor and whole chinatown appearance of the property, helpful staff, gave free treats to my puppy, breakfast was included in the room rate and had lots of good stuff, location of the hotel is safe even so I prefered doing my walking around in the day time.

Amazing across the board for the room. Vibe of the Hotel was ultra cool and walking distance to anything I needed even though I had a car. I would come back and highly suggest this to anyone as a place to stay going to a dodger game or to see the Lakers / Clippers play.

I stayed at the hotel for three nights on a business trip and it had everything I needed. The rooms are very large and nicely done - the bathroom and shower looked like they had been recently renovated and I had a nice view of city hall and downtown. There was free internet, a suitable desk, and a very nice flat screen TV. The elevator was slow but there are only three floors, so it wasn't much of an issue. The parking garage below does have tandem spots, but the staff was quick to move cars when I was blocked in, and the in/out privileges was definitely worth $15 a night.

Dragon Gate Inn is right in the heart of Chinatown. The décor and location gives you a taste of Chinatown. I would definitely come back and stay here. Only negative NO POOL...but it wasn't needed as I was barely in the room I was out exploring.

The Dragon Gate Best Western has been very caring for many years, but to our surprise they have now remodeled and made it very cozy. Located in China Town the decor fits very nicely. Not only do they have the breakfast but they also have a very nice market just down the hall from the entrance that has the usual snacks but also pizza and sandwiches and right across the walkway are several small shops. It is centrally located to all the shopping and restaurants of China Town. Employees are awesome and attentive and the rooms are clean and cozy. Any problems are taken care of immediately. The only draw back is no swimming pool.

I reserved a non-smoking room. My family and I had to spend the night in a room that will filled with a residual nicotine odor. It gave us a HORRIBLE headache the entire stay. Before you post a room as non-smoking, you should examine the room and make sure there are no residual nicotine odors, if so, then clean the room thoroughly.

Breakfast starts late 15 $ / night parking fee Room were clean You must ask to replace your bed sheets there is a card in each room to do so Front desk were friendly No parking warden available after 10 pm. So if your car parked behind a two row parking lot you will be stuck and can not pull out your car from parking. It is at middle of Chinatown

normally I stay near union station los angeles. this hotel is futher away but in walking distance of union station. very nice hotel. with oriental desighn. management was friendly and helpful. the room was very large and clean. very quiet and near shopping. fast food -subway and burger king are a 15min walk away. I was very surprise of the amont of food for breadfast. very good.enjoyed my stay.

I was a seniore traveling solo with a child. We had a lay over in LA. Dragon Gate seemed like a good choice to amuse the child. Great staff, Very welcoming. We felt safe. The room was spacious and well appointed. Clean. Quiet enough in an urban setting. The SHOWER was possibly the best I have ever used. Breakfast was well above average.

We originally booked 3 nights here but when we arrived we found that our reservation had been cancelled. Since I booked through another service I think it was their mistake not the hotels. The girls were very nice at the desk and could accommodate us for one night. I will note that they would not help us get a room for the next 2 nights. It was a super busy weekend with a huge concert going on at Dodger Stadium. Our night there was fine, nothing super special. Room was clean, that's what counts. We were surprised to find 2 sets of ear plugs sitting on the bedside table. It was quiet though. And our room was right up front. $15.00 to park was pretty steep. Elevator was really slow. I liked the area, it was fun wandering around Chinatown. Seemed very safe.

Front desk should have told us before taking our payment the elevator was broke, especially being our room was on the 4th floor! The worse part was after making it from the underground parking up to my room with luggage, seeing the cleaning crew using the elevator telling me it only works sometimes........ not cool.

Safe, clean, convenient location. Good stay. As an older adult woman I was totally safe to wander China Town alone. The hotel was clean, off street parking was great. The room was quiet and well appointed. Breakfast was wonderful, I was able to have gluten free products, but you have to ask for them. Dodger Stadium is one mile away and if you use the Academy Gate D, you are in and out in a jiffy. We left a concert and were back to the hotel in 8 minutes (I timed it) that is incredible!! I would definitely stay here again.

This hotel had a good location for exploring LA: we parked in the hotel´s garage (15$ per night) and used Metro (Union station at a 15 min walking distance from the hotel) to reach Hollywood. We then got Hop on- hop off passes for a day, and used the "purple line" to get back to the hotel. Walking around Chinatown was fun as well, also only a 10 min walk to Olvera street. Breakfast was good (pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon/sausages, fruit, pastries/bagels/bread, cereal) and staff exceptionally friendly and helpful. Room was basic 2 queen bed: beds comfortable, room clean but little worn down. Dinner options in the neighbourhood are mostly limited to Chinese food (not surprisingly ;)), the voted "best Chinese restaurant" situated just behind the hotel. We also tried "Burgerlords" (walking distance), which we liked.

I recommend the Dragon Gate to people all the time. I take classes at USC Medical Center, regularly, and it is my go to Hotel. It is very close the the medical center, downtown, and is in the middle of China Town. It's also a stones throw from Dodger Stadium. I have walked around the China Town district all hours of the day, and up to 10 at night, and always felt safe. It is amazingly clean, with appropriate Chinese decor, and surrounded by great restaurants. Before and between classes I like to wonder around China town. It has an amazing street market, and wonderful street vendors one block behind the hotel. If you are looking for character, cleanliness, efficiency, and the best breakfast buffet you have ever had at a hotel.. this is the place for you. Speaking of the breakfast buffet. You get your choice of. Cereal, Fruit, Pastries, Waffles, Pancakes, Eggs, Potatoes, Sausage.. I probably forgot something. You even get cheese and salsa for your potatoes. I really like it.

Stayed at a number of Best Western Hotels during my West Coast road trip. This Best Western hotel was very clean and nicely furnished and I would stay there again. However, I would not drive my SUV through the courtyard, down the ramp to the underground garage. The curve entering the ramp is much to narrow and hazardous to large vehicles.

Nice hotel in downtown Los Angeles in walking distance to Overa Street, restaurants, and museums. We took buses that stopped on same block. Breakfasts every morning with hot and cold foods got us going.

We enjoyed this hotel. It was only a $6.00 taxi ride from Union Station. The rooms are big and clean. The courtyard has a cute gift shop and an affordable and very good massage place. All in all, a bit pricey for what it is, but that's LA for you! It included breakfast that had a nice variety and the staff were all pleasant to deal with.

Very friendly welcome and service. Clean and comfortable, ample varied breakfast. Highly recommend! Try to ask for third floor to avoid hearing footsteps from above if you are a light sleeper, but they provide earplugs!

I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. It was clean, quiet, and was decorated with lovely Chinese details. It was right in Chinatown and seemed like a safe enough area. We walked both ways to Dodger's Stadium with no problems. We really enjoyed strolling around Chinatown and dining there. All of the staff were super friendly, and they provided a really nice breakfast. The parking attendant was a really polite and friendly guy who always greeted us with a big smile. It was a good value for being downtown LA.

The recently remodeled rooms were clean and nice. Good water pressure in the shower, and comfortable bed. Great location, walking around Chinatown was nice, and it's extremely close to downtown and Union Station.

When we arrived my booking had been cancelled, and I had to pay for an upgrade in a suite at a reckless price for 2 nights as all hotels were booked close by. Receptionist and manager were not helpful, even disrespectful and refused to help and compensate. Had to book on line again in order to stay with my colleagues again at a reckless price of 300 dollars way above the value of this hotel. Then during the stay during two night there was a lot of noise in neighborhood rooms and my colleagues couldn't sleep at all. Not recommendable characters were wandering around and reception did not want to do anything nor calling the police. On top of that breakfast is just below acceptable standards for a chain hotel. In summary if you think about going to this place, just forget it and find another place.

We had a great one night stay. The staff were very pleasant. We asked to get checked in early since we've been driving for 3hrs but unfortunately they're very strict on sticking to the 3PM check in no matter what. They did offer to have your luggage be left at the front desk if necessary. We walked around Chinatown and ate at a couple of restaurants that are just walking distance. We parked our car at their underground parking which is 15$ a night. We took uber to the dodger game that night also and it was very convenient. The noise level wasn't too bad. The only loud noise you'll really hear at night would be the AC turning on automatically. The room looked renovated and it was clean. We had breakfast the next day and it wasn't too bad either. They had both pancakes and waffle makers. Dry cereals and pastries. Plenty of drink choices. We noticed they even have a little fitness center and a section for computer use. Overall the stay wasn't too bad. Like I said the staff were helpful and friendly just wished they'd let people be able to check in at least a couple hours earlier if rooms available.

We loved this darling hotel in the middle of China Town in LA. The staff were wonderful, helpful and had excellent customer service. It was close to public transportation which was a plus. We would stay there again.

Picked this place because it was close to the dodgers ballpark (walked there took about 20-25 minutes each way). There is a free shuttle the city offers a few blocks from the hotel if you would prefer that to walking. Rooms were standard and clean. Check in and parking ($15night) was friendly. Breakfast was standard. Bathrooms were modern and new. Our room #308 (top floor) was pretty quiet. The hotel could use to add a door sweep as there is a 1" gap and this would help with sound dampening.

Stayed for one night in May 2017 before catching a flight from LAX the next day. Was very pleased with the room and the service at the front counter. Breakfast was OK. Liked that it was walking distance from Dodger Stadium and really enjoyed waking around Chinatown.

We came on a busy weekend. Over $200 a night and we were lucky to get that. Room was comfortable and relatively quiet. (Why do people raise their voices in hotel hallways)? We were a straight shot down the lovely 110 freeway from Pasadena. Only issue was Internet being slow. Not sure how to access the advertised T1 line. But the wifi in the room was definitely on the slow/stop side.

You have to give your keys to a guy in the car park while you're not driving your car so he can drive it and move it out of people's way if need be and my room and cigarette butts all over our balcony

As for the parking. It isn't uncommon for parking attendants to ask for your keys. As you know. We are in an urban downtown location. Land is very scarce, so we have to do what we can to provide parking for our guests. Being able to move cars around is just one of the many things that we have to do to accommodate our guests. This is the only way we can keep your parking rates reasonable, unlike to other properties that charge upwards of $50 per night for parking. I can understand why you would be upset with the parking arrangements if you aren't used to a downtown location. I do hope you give us another chance to earn your business. I traveled with my two teenage boys to see Billy Joel in concert at Dodger Stadium. We stayed at this Hotel between downtown Hollywood and the stadium. This hotel was clean, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the rooms were recently re-furbished. the parking was underneath the building, and very tight, but the attendant was amazing. he helped us park and had our car pulled out and ready when we checked out. The breakfast was filling (even for two 17 year old boys!), and had a nice variety of foods. The fitness center is large, but the machines are a little old. Around the block is one of the best Chinese food places ever! Yang Chow! Try the lemon scallops!

This hotel makes a lot of sense if you're planning to spend time in both downtown and Echo Park. The rooms are fairly large and clean, and the bed was comfortable. It's darker and more spartan than some of the newer hotels downtown, but it's also at a different price point, especially on weekends. Chinatown is becoming an interesting destination, with great food within a block of the BW Dragon Gate at Howlin' Ray's Hot Chicken and Baohouse, and a cool bar another half block in the other direction at Melody Lounge. Take the train to Union Station and you can walk.

Your chances of being disappointed with this hotel are very slim when you are looking for a very comfortable, nice, and clean hotel with extremely friendly front desk people. I have been here often and certainly plan on being there often again. It is very close to Dodger Stadium and very near downtown LA. It is in China Town and feels very safe. Great place to stay!

We were in town for two nights to see the Dodgers and visit Universal Studios and we needed a dog friendly hotel. I was impressed with the clean, comfortable room and the excellent service from the staff. Parking was only an extra $15 and was in an underground monitored lot. I was able to walk to the game in 25 minutes, although it is uphill all the way (estimated $5-7 ride share or $10 taxi). I also drove a couple of our party to and from Universal Studios in 20-30 minutes straight up Hwy 101. I would defintely stay here again.

The Dragon Gate Inn far exceeded my expectations. Rarely in my travels with my family do I come across a hotel that shows this level of dedication to service. The staff was so nice, gave wonderful tips on places to eat, brought out welcome Disney bags for my kids to keep, checked in numerous times to make sure our stay was going well and were kind and understanding when I spilled waffle mix all over the counter. The room was impeccable and looks like it had been renovated very recently and was current and comfortable. My kids go to bed at 730 so we are very noise sensitive and we really happy the hotel was inset in the block so the rooms were not directly on the street. It was nice and quiet and we were all able to get a wonderful sleep. The breakfast was fabulous as well. They had eggs, bacon, sausages, a veggie hash, made to order pancakes and waffles, fruit, rolls, cereal, oatmeal, many types of coffee and much more. The neighborhood was great, safe and perfect for walking to sites in LA. My only regret is that we spent the beginning of our trip staying at an overpriced, mediocre Hilton and were not able to enjoy this gem longer.

Was so scared to book any hotel from reading alot of reviews. I literally booked this the same day. It was kind of hidden but if you pay attention you will see the sign. I grew up close to chinatown so i felt at home. It was a beautiful room. Nice staff and good breakfast.

Entry not well marked & down driveway to garage too narrow for full sized trucks; scraped my right fender! Entry to rooms open aired over center retail area and busy area--lots of outside noise. Room clean and large. Staff excellent. Breakfast marginal for eggs & meat. Breakfast room small and very crowded; difficult to get to some items while people doctor their choices, etc. Central to lots of LA sights.

This might be the strangest Best Western I even stayed in. It has a bunch of Chinatown shops on the lower level! The location is great and the price is okay considering it is LA. But this hotel is so noisy they leave ear plugs on the night stands! Don't stay in a connecting room. I think they must have redone the rooms and replaced the carpet with laminate flooring. That means the connecting door is no longer long enough and there is a huge gap at the bottom. I heard EVERYTHING from the neighboring room. The breakfast room tables were sticky. This was definitely a below average Best Western but with the Chinatown theme, it was pretty unique.

I could not get a place closer to the business district in downtown L.A. so I booked here. The neighborhood is not the best. But the hotel was clean and cheap. There were earplugs, nice courtesy, but not needed. The self serve breakfast was a nice touch. A good place for a brief stay.

Breakfast is amazing, big and good. You an also make pancakes and waffles!! The room is big and confortable and clean: there is also the hair cap (an optional not present in most of the American hotels). Wifi is free and well working. We were there by car so to move was not difficult but wehad the impression that without a car it would have been difficult as we have not noticed any facilities (markets, pharmacies). The car park is not included and not well structured: when we arrived in the evening we had to leave the car behind another and they called us early in the morning asking our car's keys even though the other one did not need to go out.

Car parking available for a small charge. Typical Chinese facade. The room was very spacious and of a very good standard. There was no view to speak of and was a bit noisy, ear plugs were provided , not a necessity though. Staff were very helpful and the complimentary breakfast was good. Though need to get there to get a choice of the full selection. Easy transport links to get in and out of the city without any hassle.

Stayed two nights while my son was in the hospital. Only a 1 1/2 miles away and I didn't have to get on the freeway. What a plus. Nice big clean rooms with hardwood floors. Beds were comfortable and plenty of pillows. Front desk clerks were very nice and check in was smooth. Free breakfast was offered with cold and hot food available. Parking is available in the garage for 15 dollars a night. We would definately stay here again.

This is a nice hotel. Ground level consists of lobby and breakfast room and then a bunch of shops with an open air central courtyard. Rooms are all on upper floors with outside entrances from the courtyard area. It's a small hotel overall, but our room was HUGE! Just a standard room, but so impressed with how much space there was. The room was VERY clean and appeared to be newly renovated. Hardwood floors instead of carpet made the room feel even more up-to-date and clean. Comfy beds. Sink area separate from toilet/shower room. Would stay here again.

I'd call this a very Chinese-friendly hotel, even down to the daily newspaper they supply. Neighborhood is quite busy during the day; not so much at night when streets appear almost empty. But the rooms were comfortable and equipped with personal earplugs to suppress the exterior traffic noise and morning playground screams. There's a nice free breakfast in a parlor off of the lobby. I really liked the chocolate chips which I added to my pancakes and cereal. Hotel offers Wi-Fi plus two desktop computers near the lobby. I also had in-room coffee and a small fridge. You can park on-site for a small fee. Overnight street parking is free but you'll have to move by the morning. The location offers many bus routes including Dash B, lots of Chinese shops and restaurants and is near Union Station and Dodger Stadium. The reception is open 24/7.

Not a nice hotel was there on business and was scared my car would be broken in to. The rooms were not nice i was afraid to walk barefoot on the carpet. Loud all night and I'm pretty sure we witnessed a drug deal in the hallway.

My daughter and I stayed here on a weekend trip to LA for the Neon Cruise (separate review). As we were arriving by train, it was great that this hotel is only about a 10 minute walk from Union Station. It's about a 20 minute walk to downtown, so the location is perfect for exploring LA's many attractions. This hotel is way nicer than you might think looking at it from the outside. The rooms appear to have been very recently redone, and there are new beds, carpet, you name it. Nice vanity area with excellent lighting; shower has a new rainfall-type showerhead. Very spacious room; plenty of room for two queen beds, an armchair, and TV stand/cabinet with fridge. Breakfast came complete with waffles, eggs, yogurt, oatmeal, cold cereal, etc. The pretty lobby is decorated in Chinatown style, with a wonderful gold dragon. Staff was very nice, and we had no problem storing our bags the next morning while we explored after we had checked out. Highly recommended!

When visiting downtown Los Angeles for either business or pleasure, this hotel is in a very good location. Located at the edge of Chinatown, it's a short walk to visit and explore. Also a short, easy drive to the Music Center, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and museums.

Have been staying at this hotel very often on business travels, it is really well located in china town, has a really nice open design... The rooms are huge, very clean, good loo's... The breakfast is basic , but is good... A good value for money hotel in central lots angeles

Spent $20 more to have a decent room near downtown and were pleasantly surprised. Super clean room, friendly staff, underground parking with attendant $15 fee but worth it 4 blocks from music center. Nice bed tv bath non smoking room nice. Recommend for business or pleasure.

We were met by a parking attendant and we were told we had to give him our car keys and we couldn't get them back until we were leaving. We were then charged 30 dollars for parking. We went up to the room and after reading other reviews we decided to leave because of fears over our safety. The rooms were easily accessible from the street and the room smelled terrible. When we went back to get our car it had already been moved by the attendant for absolutely no reason.

Hello James: I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I can assure you we are in the safest of all districts in Los Angeles. NO ONE can access the rooms from the street. One must use the elevator to go to the rooms. Elevator will not work unless you have a elevator security card. With out the security card , you can't go to your floor or even access your room. People are friendly the staff is helpful. Prices are a little bit pricey but it's well worth it the area is a good location went there stay there for medical doctors appointment for wife at USC only 15 minutes to get to the medical center and the restaurants around there excellent.

This was very clean and the staff friendly and helpful. Updated bathroom with nice shower. Basic foods in the breakfast room, but good to have without other breakfast places nearby. Second and third story rooms over some small shops ---busy 4 lane street, but noise level was OK. Chinatown location, but neighborhood without amenities ---walk a couple city blocks to find restaurants or fun stores. We did have a good meal at Yang Chow around the block on Broadway. We choose for being close to Dodger Stadium to get to games easily --used taxi called by hotel. A free shuttle also from nearby Union Station. Used SuperShuttle.com reservation airport to hotel door and back, cross town for $15.

It was alright for a one night stay to attend the gnr concert August 18th. Thank goodness for the guy at the front desk who knew that they accepted Apple Pay. No one else knew. He said they had the technology to do so we tried it and it worked. So... Apple Pay accepted here FYI. Really loud area but they give you free ear plugs. There's a gas station down the street really close for when the shops at the hotel close down.

We enjoyed our stay here it is a great location walking distance to area dining and attractions. The room was good sized and newly remodeled. The only problem we encountered was with parking, we gave them the keys and the woke us the next morning at 7am looking for our keys.

awesome stay, had some issues with internet but other than that it has everything that I was looking for. best part was breakfast. the location is china town so you have to expect more of chinese population. there is a market close by which looks exactly like any other asian market.

We stayed here after our air b and b let us down (we're due to stay in downtown LA). We preferred the quieter (and seemingly less rough) neighbourhood compared to where we were due to stay (a dive minute walk from Hollywood boulevard). The Dragon gate Inn was a bit of a distance from the center, but our uber to grand central market cost around 5 dollars which illustrates how easy it was to get around. The room was clean and large. Clean sheets and towels. Enjoyed our stay.

Not many options close to Dodger Stadium, but this was the second year in a row I've stayed here to attend a game. It's a short walk to Union Station where you can get on a free shuttle to the stadium.

I can't say enough about how accommodating the staff was - always asking if we need anything, polite and friendly. Our toilet clogged and the response time for a maintenance person to fix was literally minutes. I heard the front desk person refer to it as an "emergency" and they weren't kidding. Breakfast staff was also very accommodating, constantly asking if they could get us anything and making sure we were happy. Building has been there awhile (its old) but the room was modern, updated and clean. Close proximity to stadium, train station and freeways. Hotel parking was $15 a night which was a drag but it is the big City and real estate is prime. Hotel is smack in the middle of Chinatown, walking distance to local stores, Starbucks, outdoor market.

As for design this is hotel is perfectly placed in Chinatown Los Angeles but apart from that, it is out of the way for most of LA 's favourite attraction. Taxis work out expensive if you do not like walking. It is a bit of a hike even to union station. The best part is that the rooms are very clean and staff are very helpful. It is just the location that sucks!

Hello T: Sorry you didn't like our location. I wish you have asked our staff how to navigate in our area. Its sooooo easy. Not sure why you had a tough time with the TAXI service. They are all parked about 2 blocks from us and just waiting to be hailed. However, almost all of our guest use UBER.. We are located on Hill St. which is major access point to everywhere, plus its right off the freeway. With many people driving right through Hill St. So access to UBER is really easy. We are also 1 block from the Gold Line Station, across the street from DASH. Both of these lines take you right to Union Station, I'm sure that's where you wanted to go. We stayed at this hotel because of proximity to Dodger stadium. Great hotel for the price. Near downtown and also close to various interstates going in all directions. The hotel staff was very helpful with directions. Great breakfast.

This was our third visit to the Dragon Gate Inn and the staff was attentive as usual, but we were pleasantly surprised that the owner remembered us and looked after us like family, a detail that goes a long way when we have plenty of other choices of places to stay. The rooms are spacious, modern and clean - what's not to like?!?! Chinatown itself is also a fun place to stay and explore when we're not taking care of business. This is our favorite place to stay whenever we need to come to LA, largely because the location is perfect for our various day trips all over the greater LA area. But aside from that, the staff is always unfailingly cheerful and helpful and the rooms are spotless and good sized. We also take full advantage of the nice spread they put out for the complimentary breakfast unless we go for the awesome dim sum a mere half a block away.

Location is OK, close to downtown LA, Hollywood, universal studios, all reachable by car in less than half an hour (traffic permitting!!). Parking is available in the hotel @15 dollars per night. Rooms are big and clean, service is fine including breakfast. Only negative was the elevator: too slow !!!!

Love this place for proximity to downtown (as opposed to paying higher room rates/parking/ extras or having to stay 10 or more miles away and fighting traffic). Had 5 appointemnts on day 1 and made it to all with ease and quickly back to the hotel. Relatively quiet in the evening. Staff is very helpful and a good breaksfast is available each morning.

Excellent hotel with excellent breakfast. We stayed on top floor facing the city. The only reason the hotel hasn't got a 5 star rating from me is because Best Western no longer accept the travel card for payment. It wasn't an issue for us but could be for other British tourists

We needed a hotel close to Union Station for our morning train trip to Yosemite Park. If you have experienced LA traffic in the morning rush, you will appreciate this. Rooms face an inner courtyard through a single entrance. Even so, the hotel feels perfectly safe. This is Chinatown which has great Dim Sum places in abundance, and feels very foreign. Room was spacious and very comfortable. No bathtub. Free wifi and fresh complimentary breakfast are a plus. Moderately priced for an LA hotel of good quality. Staff was friendly and responsive, especially in view of our very late (after 12am) arrival on two non-consecutive stays. Huge gym also serves as a martial arts studio.

I chose this hotel simply because we needed a hotel in walking distance to Union Station and were mindful of our budget. The room was spacious and appeared as if it had been newly renovated, it did have a musty smell, not sure if this room had not been used for a while. We arrived at the hotel about 9:00am after a long flight from Australia and were given a room immediately which was most appreciated. Breakfast was adequate and staff extremely helpful. I would recommend this hotel for an overnight stay, but for a longer stay in Los Angeles there are better alternatives.

If you are looking for a clean hotel at a reasonable price you could do a lot worse than going to this hotel. We were in LA for baseball games and we actually walked to Dodger Stadium from the hotel. The free breakfast was excellent and the parking was very convenient on site. I would use this hotel again when in LA.

Great little gem! Decent sized rooms with great bathroom, staff were very helpful and parking supplied. Close to the Dodgers Stadium but wouldn't walk if you have young kids as it is an uphill walk, easy enough to purchase parking at the stadium.

Very clean room, close to great restaurants. I would recommend asking for a room on the top floor, because you can TOTALLY hear people walking around above you. The staff was friendly. Beds were comfortable. Not being from Los Angeles, I was nervous about the location at first, but it was very safe.

I've stayed here many times. It's in a great location, close to everything DTLA and Burbank. Easy to find and great places to eat nearby, some places are open well after 10pm. There is good shopping within walking distance, too. The rooms are nice and quiet. I like the open courtyard and Chinese style lighting and decor. If you want a Chinatown experience, this is THE place to stay. The restaurant where Jackie Chan's RUSH HOUR was filmed is a few blocks down the street and the Bruce Lee memorial statue is also close in the historic shopping center across the street.

Chinese style hotel, close to the highway. Rooms are good, nice bed and showers. There seem to have been some savings on the walls, it's pretty noisy from adjacent rooms. Service is ok, breakfast could be better (100% self service, plastic plates, forks and knives...). All in all good for a few days in LA when all you really need is a good sleep and shower.

Chose this hotel as close to getting to Dodger Stadium. Location is right there in Los Angeles Chinatown. During the day, we spent a few hours walking around the area checking out the Chinatown stores; wish we had time to have some dim sum at one of the many restaurants. Hotel was easy to find and basement parking was readily available. It?s not in the nicest part of town, but the room we stayed in was very clean. We also appreciated the complimentary breakfast that included pancakes, waffles, sausage, and eggs. We would stay there again if going to a Dodger game.

Be sure you know the people on either side of you at this place because the walls provide a visual barrier only. You will hear everything they say (and do!) and they you, so be on your best behavior. The room was otherwise adequate, but the price, given other choices, was outrageous.

Great experience staying in this hotel. Easy access to most of locations. Quiet hotel and the family loves the ambiance and decor of the room. Room is clean and looks like it was just remodeled recently. Staff are very courteous. Breakfast is OK as with the other hotels we stayed.

Great hotel in Chinatown!! Quiet, very clean and nicely decorated. Very secure. The fluffiest pillows I've ever seen in a "budget" hotel! Fast check in, friendly and courteous staff. Convenient to freeway and easy to get in & out of. Also, really good price for L.A. Only drawback, there was only 3 cable channels to choose from, but no big deal. I would stay here again.

Excellent start with early check in after a hard overnight journey. Thanks! The room was as expected from the website information and was quiet. Good location for downtown. Wifi worked but it was not always fast. Breakfast was ok but did not start till 7.15. Gluten-free items were advertised for breakfast but were not available even on request, so take your own GF bread if you need it. Taxi driver took us to another hotel which claimed to have the same name!

We booked this hotel based upon the excellent price-quality range and location close to the Amtrak station in Downtown LA. Check-in was swift, personnel was polite, however the elevator broke down twice during our two-day stay, so had to haul our luggage all the way to the third floor and back again. The room was large, clean, but felt a bit outdated - not sure whether this one (room 301) had been renovated? The bathroom was minuscule, with not a shelf in sight to store shampoo et cetera. Beds were comfortable, except for the pillows. My main concern is the fact that I did not feel very safe in our room, as it can be easily accessed by anyone from the street without accessing the hotel itself, and the doorlock was very feeble... Furthermore, breakfast did not appeal to me, rather limited choice.

We stayed at this hotel because we were overnighting in LA before taking the train to Seattle. The hotel is only a 10 to 15 minute walk to the station or around $10 in a taxi. Check in was easy and the staff were friendly and efficient. Our room had recently been refurbished and was spotlessly clean and very functional. Wifi was free and breakfast was also included and whilst not extensive was quite adequate and very enjoyable. The hotel is in the middle of Chinatown and is surrounded by restaurants, one of which was recommended to us by reception and was excellent. Not a lot of sightseeing to do within walking distance but I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone who wanted to stay close to Union Station.

We were on Amtrak vacation, and this is one of the closest hotels to Union Station in LA. Reasonably priced, recently remodeled rooms, knowledgeable and friendly staff . Decent breakfast. Only concern was slow wifi Close to Amtrak

We selected the BWP Dragon Gate Inn due to its convenient location to Dodger Stadium. The check-process was easy, the lobby area was neat & clean. The staff pointed out the free shuttle to the stadium, the free morning breakfast and apologized for the noise because of remodeling. We reserved a handicapped room which met all of our safety needs and we would recommend this inn to our family & friends.

Reviews about this area of LA & this particular hotel had us a teensy bit nervous but we were thrilled. Newly remodeled room, very clean, friendly staff, close to Dodger Stadium (UberX thank you!). For nostalgia's sake, we walked to Philippe's for breakfast rather than taking part in the Continental offered -- but did get coffee in the hotel. The breakfast looked good. Coffee maker in room, internet worked great. Just nothing bad to say about the place. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is it would be misleading to say this is a 5-star place. As my title says -- perfect for us and we not only plan to come back, we do recommend.

Very good in all aspects. Much more than expected. Would recommend for friends and relatives. Good cost/benefit ratio. The only small disturbance was a little construction during the stay, but we were informed in advance.

This hotel was great location for our visit to a Dodgers game and a short drive to many attractions. The staff were very pleasant and went out of their way to help with anything we needed. They had a decent breakfast included with the stay.

room was very clean and roomy. Only complaint was there was only 1/2 a shower door so showers made bathroom floor wet and slippery. Why? Install the other 1/2 shower door please! Breakfast was so-so, nothing special. Limited foods, but well maintained. Location is good for those using Amtrak and need close place nearby (.7 of a mile) from station. Oh and elevator is very very slow; probably biggest grip except for the shower situation. Otherwise, nice stay.

The book is a way better than the cover. Really nice freshly remodeled rooms. All the staff went out of their way to be helpful. The breakfast items where typical items, but they where a better quality than most. Sara, Eric, and Stephanie where stellar. Overall great visit!

The Hotel is Very clean. The shower was spotless. The sink was on the outside of restroom, so we could get ready with out holding up the bathroom. They had a couch and chair in the room. They have a Very good breakfast. And Friendly staff. I liked that we could open window and get fresh air. The Downer is...paying for parking

The location of the hotel could have been better if not in downtown. The front office staff is not very friendly. Some of the staff housing keeping do not understand english. This was challenging if we need to seek help. No phones are provided on the floors. My room key got deactivated and did not have a phone access to call the front office for help.

Having picked this hotel for its proximity to downtown, we were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the hotel, the location, and the room. We loved the Asian decor and color scheme and the room was attractive and clean.

We found this deal from Costco and were satisfied with the room as well as the service. It is located in Chinatown and very convenient to go to nearby restaurants. Exterior of the hotel looks kind of old, but the guest room was remodeled very nicely and modern. The room is also very spacious too. The kids love it. One thing though ... parking is $15/night. I think I saw a garage parking nearby (just a block away) for under $7/day. We arrived late so didn't have chance to look around so we just parked there for the convenience as we had to leave early the next day. Other than that, we love the hotel. Front desk was very nice and helpful even though it was really late in the night.

I couldn't find a reasonably priced room for a one-night stay in my usual haunts in downtown Los Angeles. So, I opted for the Dragon Gate Inn in Chinatown, a few blocks away from the civic center. I was pleasantly surprised. Excellent staff, good, clean room, good breakfast, and lots a restaurants in the immediate area (most of them Chinese).

A good deal, at least $75/night CHEAPER than hotels in the downtown area and well worth the money. My room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The staff was very polite and helpful. The free breakfast held me over until lunch. My activities were centered around meeting a friend in Hollywood and a seeing a show downtown. A fairly good location, the Metro station is a bit of a hike -- I suggest Uber if you don't have a car.

The price is a tad on the high side, but the location is top notch. It's in the middle of Chinatown, so don't look for fast food. The rooms are going through a refresh. Huge rooms, two free bottle waters, comfy beds. There is a lil cafe that sells lotto, chips and Italian sodas (go figure in Chinatown) as well as boba drinks hot or cold. Parking is $15 so keep that in mind. Work famous phillippes is just around the corner, as is Union station for Amtrak as well as Metro trains. I had to leave at 4am so. I breakfast for me, but other swear by it. I'd stay here again no problem.

I haven't been back to LA in while... but man my last trip was awesome. The hotel staff remembered me from a few months ago which made me feel very good. The neighborhood is a good mix of old culture + gentrification. The funny thing is everyone seems to really get along. People I pass by on the streets are so friendly and helpful. I noticed that they recently went through some renovations. I really like the new look of the bathroom!!!

The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The property was a little disjointed with the valet parking in the basement and the room layout was functional but "unique". It was very easy to find a good neighborhood restaurant close by.

This property is in a quiet neighborhood but the China Town train station is a 5 minute walk to the East and the trains are very noisy. It is scarcely decorated and the accessible bathroom, while great for someone who needs it, is below par for someone who does not. Not a good value for the price paid.

Personal Whereabouts and info given out. Had to leave night of arrival due to intruder. Still had to pay in full even though I did not stay at the hotel. Hotel needs better security and need to pay attention to intruders and non guest lingering around.

The location of the hotel is a few blocks from a subway station and half of a block from bus transportation to downtown. Visited from out of town using mass transit and was convenient. Friendly service with provided breakfast each morning.

I found the accommodations clean, well-maintained and inviting. Every room is high-end in appearance, yet prices are modest. Rooms are spacious and well-suited for the business traveler, as well as the tourist. Has its own gym, restaurant, laundry service, paid parking, and serves an excellent, varied, free breakfast. Close to many downtown attractions.

This is ithe worst Best Western I have ever stayed at. It is in a quite area but the train woke us up several times. The hotel is sparse and run down with few outlets and cold floors. We apparently got the last room as it was handicapped accessible and the shower was terrible. There was no water pressure and the handheld wand was super low making it impossible to take a real shower. The mattress was uncomfortable and had a big indentation in the middle. For the price we paid $219 plus $10 parking it was definitely not worth it. I would expect to pay $80 per night for this type of hotel anywhere other than LA. I cannot recommend it nor would I stay here again.

Small hotel with an exotic Chinese atmosphere, located in the middle of Chinatown's bargain markets and among many Chinese restaurants. Nearby key museums and other cultural landmarks located around downtown, also next to the authentic and landmark train station of Los Angeles and easily accessible by car via several highways. Hearty complimentary breakfast! PS. Some rooms are rather dark or would need a face lift from the outside access....

Mold in the showers, construction also going on with power tools in neighboring rooms. hotel did not advise this was happening during booking. it really sucks. Found my outside door to my patio open one day also. be sure to look at the curtains for boogers too. i found a bunch that were dried on.

This would have been wonderful stay except that a major renovation was underway, and construction was taking place in the room next to ours. This meant hammering and drilling all day in that room AND on the shared wall! It was so loud that it was impossible to work, converse, or have a phone call, much less relax or nap. Although construction was supposed to be between 10 and 6, the workers arrived much earlier and so loud conversation and cleanup/prep were already taking place. The hotel was fully booked and they could not move us, and our feedback was met with vague apologies and no compensation. It was too bad, since the location is good, the decor is good, the breakfast is very nice, and the staff are all very friendly. It has good potential, but do not book this without calling them and inquiring about the construction.

On the plus side the room was clean and spacious. The beds were super comfortable, enough towels and a good steam iron with board. The TV had a good selection of channels. The bathroom was small and dated, but clean and functional (except one early morning where there was no hot water, they fixed it the same day, but unfortunately was forced to take a cold shower at 5am). The A/C was loud! Since it was January, I kept the window open and A/C off. However, that did get the traffic noise in. For me that was not an issue, but if you're a light sleeper consider staying somewhere else. Complementary breakfast was very basic, but enough to have a good start of the day. The DIY waffle-iron was a very nice touch. The 24-hour free coffee machine was very much appreciated. There was a small inconvenience that the room was uneven, making working at the desk a challenge since the rolling office chair kept rolling back to the middle of the room (even while sitting on it). They are in the midst of a renovation, so maybe this can be looked at when they get to room 323. Staff was very helpful and cheerful (including parking). The parking fee was a super deal at $10 per day. The area is quiet but glory forgone. I had no problems with safety, but it's not an area I would bring my family for a holiday either. The restaurants were disappointing for a China town. I ended up having meals in other areas or have them delivered. To summarise, an average hotel to stay for business if you need to be close to USC. But lower your expectations regarding area and overall look and feel of the premises. (This last point might change after the renovation.)

My rating is mainly for the issue I had when checking in and apparent miscommunication between front desk and parking attendant. I get to the hotel about 2:45 parked my car in hotel parking lot and was planning to wait the 15 minutes til check in time as stated online. A man comes up to my car telling me I can't park here without a parking pass when I tell him I have a reservation I'm staying here for the night I'm sitting and waiting til 3 to check in he repeatedly was telling me I had to leave I had to park outside the hotel just to wait for check in then come back in. Obviously I'm upset when I'm paying $100+ for one night then having to be told I can't wait in the parking lot for 15 mins. So I call front desk right there from my phone had it on speaker asked for management however Marvin at front desk said they weren't in. I told Marvin what was going on and that I was not going to move my car just to go check in. He said it was ok to come in and check in early. We hung up then the guy tells me I have to give him my keys! At that point I'm completely done with the hotel I told the attendant I am not giving him my keys that's ridiculous. My boyfriend was with me so he stayed with my car while I go to check in. I will never give a rude stranger my car keys. Period. When I go to check in with Marvin he then tells me there's a $10 fee to stay in the parking lot. Didn't really have a choice but to pay it, that is the very first hotel let alone a Best Western where I had to pay to park in the hotel parking lot. I told Marvin I thought it was crazy that a person who is paying to stay cannot sit for 15 minutes to wait for check in he replied "yea" and kind of just brushed it off. First impressions are everything and I will never stay there again or recommend it to anyone.

Stayed here 2 nights and it was perfect. The hotel is located in the heart of Chinatown, and is easily walkable from Union Station. The surrounding neighborhood looks a little scruffy at first but it is quiet and feels perfectly safe. Check-in was a breeze; the lady working at the front desk acknowledged our room request and also gave us a nice goody bag filled with snacks for being BW Rewards members. The hotel is 3 floors arranged in kind of a U shape with all the rooms around an open center courtyard. On the ground floor are small businesses; everything from a coffee shop to a kung-fu studio, but it was always quiet. The room was fairly large with a king-size bed and a nice seating area with a small sofa and easy chair. We had a view looking towards the L.A. City Hall building and directly outside was a rear parking lot that seemed to be used by the employees/owners of other local businesses. As such, it was empty at night and very quiet. The bathroom setup was very functional: the shower (with excellent water pressure) and toilet were together behind a door, while the sink was located outside of this area. There was a sort of pass-through right next to the sink area which was very useful to place all of your toiletries so you didn't have to clutter the sink area with them. The bed was firm but very comfortable and came with plenty of pillows. The room also had a nice large refrigerator. Breakfast was perfectly satisfactory by BW standards: eggs, sausage, cereal, fruit, waffles and pancakes, etc. But the employees were outstanding here -- constantly cleaning and replenishing the food items. One young lady in particular was doing a great job -- she was asking everyone if they wanted waffles or pancakes, then she would make them and bring them to your table! Checkout was also quick and efficient; the price was exactly as promised and our emailed receipt arrived while we were still standing at the counter. Overall, a great example of a BW hotel and we would definitely return.

Downtown LA is pretty creepy, especially at night. Surprisingly, not a lot is open in Chinatown at night. Plenty of homeless panhandlers. The hotel was OK. The bed was extremely comfortable. The tv was new and there was a fridge. However, the bathroom was old and small. The breakfast was OK< but the lady serving was so friendly and anxious to please. The front desk staff were very helpful in suggestions of where to eat. That made up for the hotel being a bit disappointing.

Needed a place for one night close to USC Health Sciences/Norris ($15 cab ride). Older hotel, but felt safe tucked inside mini mall type building. Have to use room key to operate elevators. Was quiet and clean. New furnishings and fixtures. Plumbing older, but plenty of hot water. Great location near downtown, but you're not paying downtown hotel price and it is nicer/better quality than a room for $100 or less a night. Will stay again when in town for USC visits.

The Front Desk personnel were very professional and helpful. They made the check-in process very smooth. I needed to stay downtown because I had a doctor's appointment at nearby USC Spine Center. Because of the notorious downtown traffic during rush hour I needed to stay downtown. This Chinatown Best Western hotel fit the bill. It was convenient (4.5 miles from USC medical center), very clean, and safe. We walked to dinner.

This hotel is in bustling Chinatown but is very quiet and comfortable. Parking is underneath, safe and very accessible. The value is good without fanfare and fancy furnishings but good solid amenities and service that made our stay memorable.

My two elementary age daughters and I stayed here as we enjoyed a non-Disney vacation highlighted by the Pasadena Rose Parade. My semi-complicated hotels.com + Best Western Rewards Night combination reservation was granted without a hitch. That was a relief. I thought the desk staff was responsive and helpful while I figured out the best way to get to the Rose Parade. I also want to note that the valet in the below-ground parking area was very friendly and helpful with our multiple in & outs. We took the Gold Line Metro to the Rose Parade and back (Chinatown station). It was an easy, 10-minute walk. The room itself appears to have been recently updated, with decor above my expectation. The bathrooms had a dated look, but they were functional and provided hot water, etc. It appeared that numerous rooms on the 2nd floor were in the process of being remodeled The neighborhood is obviously in the middle of Chinatown and North Hill street is dirty and somewhat depressing. To be fair, I wouldn't describe it as unsafe. I didn't see homeless and punk kids roving the streets...it was mostly older Chinese residents carrying plastic bags. So not intimidating/dangerous. I enjoyed the complimentary breakfast. Luxurious hours (7:15 - 10:15am), pancakes, wafflemaker, bagels, toast, lots of cereals, coffee/hot chocolate. We saved at least $25/day eating breakfast at the hotel. In summary: This isn't a destination hotel. I wouldn't want to hang out in the neighborhood for several days, but if you have a car or can use the metro and just need a clean, quiet, modest room to recover after a long sightseeing day, this hotel is a good deal.

It's close to the Dodger's stadium plus you're in the heart of Chinatown if you want to shop. The place is descent enough. It's just the aircon was too loud at night. Their free breakfast was great. The valet guy was so nice and your car is well secured. To park at the Best Western was only $10.00 per day.

First, let me qualify the one-star rating. The hotel is getting this poor rating because of one factor, which is, to me, an indicator of other potential problems. That factor is their decision to ignore a $20 Best Western incentive gift card. The card's instructions were to present it at the time of check-in and $20 would be deducted from your bill. Simple enough, right? Wrong. The front desk clerk who checked us in was pleasant and professional, and noted that she could not apply the credit, only a manger could do so, and they would do it the next morning. But late the next morning when we checked out, we found the manager had not done so, and once again the front desk clerk, pleasant and efficient enough, could not do so, but assured us it would be dealt with. Well, after submitting a one-star Best Western review with explanation that went back to the hotel and receiving no response, and submitting a complain to Best Western corporate and days later receiving no response yet, I think it's time to submit a public review. If management is willing to stiff regular Best Western customers on a Best Western "rewards" card, and risk a highly negative review over a $20 obligation that they have through Best Western, what else are they willing to do? That said, I want to give kudos to the staff we dealt with at the hotel. The front desk clerks were as professional and personable as could be, as was the parking attendant (but be prepared that parking is an extra charge). The breakfast was OK, and the room was clean with proper amenities, though oddly organized with a large furniture-less section of the room that seemed out of place. The location for the hotel is great if you want to explore Chinatown, or downtown LA, Little Tokyo, etc. We went for a walk one evening and stumbled onto a Chinatown outdoor shopping area near Hop Louie's where a commercial was being filmed with dragon dancers, which was entertaining. If you enjoy craft cocktails, General Lee's is your destination for cocktails utilizing Chinese herbs and the Chinese Zodiac - to a delightful end. Tuesday night at General Lee's is jazz night upstairs. A great find. But I remain concerned about a hotel management that may be so cheap that they don't honor their own rewards card and are willing to lose a customer over it. I've encountered problems with other Best Western hotels and have had management responses in 24 hours or less, with everything resolved positively. Not here, and that's not good. I'm disappointed in the management here and their poor choice they made in how they chose to treat us as customers. They sabotaged the good work being done by their own staff. That's not acceptable.

Hello Sir; I'm not sure if you knew all the events that happened regarding your travel card. The travel card you tried to redeem was EXPIRED. Management contacted all the channels through corporate to try to get your card extended. This card was denied for payment. Manager took it upon themselves to honor your card at their expense. You are correct, management should have told you all the work they did regarding your EXPIRED card. Older property in the midst of china town. The entrance was a little difficult to find in an alley way, reminiscent of the orient. Service was good and the place was clean. Bathroom was very small. Breakfast was good, with the exception of the syrup which was strange tasting.

floors were filthy, had to wash our feet before going to bed. Not much around the hotel, in a run down part of china town. The ad says the city is minutes from the hotel, but I don't know if that is walking distiance, more like driving.

When visiting LA, location is everything. Staying at the wrong place could end up costing you hours stuck in LA traffic, and trust me that can ruin your day. At the same time you don't want to end up a shady hotel. The Best Western Plus Dragon Gate Inn offers both the perfect location and great value. Its located in the heart of Chinatown and close to freeways and other attractions. On the day of my arrival i was trying to check in early and called the hotel. I know check in time was not until later but i arrived at noon and just wanted to drop off my bags and hit the town. I was greeted by Blanca who not only checked me in but gave us a great room. The room was perfect. Nice, clean, spacious. It also seemed like it had been renovated so that was a plus. When going to LA, its all about location, location, location, and this hotel has it. It was in the middle of china town which is perfectly safe for the family and its pretty fun to walk around and see where some movies have been filmed. Its also like a mile away from plazita olvera which has many great mexican gifts and food. You can also hit the Santee alleys which is like 15 min on city streets. I came to visit family that live in San Gabriel and even that was only 20 min on freeway. Perfect location. During our stay we had breakfast both days. The breakfast was delicious. Good variety and fully stocked, but the best part was the mexican lady that works the breakfast, she was awesome. She greeted everyone and went beyond her job to cook your pancakes and deliver anything you needed to your table. She left a positive impression. Overall this hotel is just perfect. Location, rooms, staff, breakfast. No complains. We are already planning our next trip and we have decided to stay at this hotel. Keep up the good work.

Stayed here twice on boys trip. Basic accommodation very close to Dodger stadium. We were there for NBA at the Staples center which was only a short uber ride away.Some shopping and plenty of chinese food in the area.Breakfast was ok and I liked the pancake machine.Hotel doesn't deal with need for three beds at all. Not fancy but seemed clean and bed was comfortable enough.

I stayed at this hotel for business in downtown LA. I picked this hotel mainly because it is within walking distance to the government offices (20-30 min max). It's probably a short drive to get to either Staples Center or Dodger Stadium. The decor in the room was nice and the bed was comfortable. The TV channels were alphabetical on the networks so I didn't have a hard time specific channels! The room's decor seem a little dated but I had no problem with that. The hotel breakfast was very good highlighted by a yogurt bar, make your own waffle/pancake, scrambled eggs, sausage, and bacon, in addition to standard hotel breakfast food. Overall, staff was friendly and efficient from breakfast and check-in/out. Also, parking was 10 dollars. This is a hotel I'd say is good for its value and would highly consider going to again.

We stayed at the hotel to visit fashion district during our visit to LA. The hotel is in Chinatown with great walking scores. However , the property is aged and it will be great to have it upgraded in room facility.

i like this hotel for location, and nearby attractions- dodgers, lakers, clippers, kings. beds are comfy. i was unable to try their breakfast bc i was heading to lax. also has close proximity to the disney concert hall. i havent tried going to disneyland from the hotel yet, but i understand there is a contractor for this as well

I was desperate to find a good & sate hotel online in LA near the LA Convention Center downtown under $200 a night. The hotel is nested in a quaint corner of Chinatown just a few blocks from Hwy 110 so it's convenient to downtown. The area is quiet & safe with many older Chinese residences. A couple of doors down is an Asian supermarket & in the courtyard is a convenience store which was super handy and not over priced. Around the corner are many great Asian restaurants and stores. Plus only a couple of blocks is a train station and the bus station to LAX is several blocks away but within walking distance. I was pleasantly surprised how clean the hotel and courteous the staff was including the cleaning lady, breakfast servers and the front desk help. In my room I had a refrigerator, very comfortable bed, 2 bottles of water and plenty of clean towels. I had wifi in my room as well as the TV with a wide variety of quality channels without requiring my to pay extra. The breakfast was a choice of pancakes, eggs, waffles, sausages, yogurt bar, cereal, croissants and bagels. I don't eat pork so the server kindly asked if I'd like a turkey or vegetarian sausage which was yummy. I will stay there again next time I visit LA.

better watch what they said in their website and ask for all they offer...you will be surprised. They offer a parking, they charge you but if there is a problem, they send you to a third party..worst, they denied their responsibility and literally tell you that that is your business

this property need a good renovate, internet took a S__t, not working at all, if you are here for business, make sure you don't stay here. room was not as expected as BW plus, more like a 2 star motel.

The staff here are awesome. They were extremely helpful, kind, caring and understanding. The beds were super comfortable and the room was very spacious. The breakfast was great. I never saw a make your own pancake station till I stayed here. That was a great touch. Well done.

Ok place to stay. Room was average in size, rate came with breakfast. Breakfast was plentiful. Close to the Stadium and highway. Awesome Chinese restaurant around the corner. Close to the train station however we had a car so didn't use it. Right near Chinatown. Had to pay extra for parking which was disappointing.

The hotel is located in a safe area in Chinatown, a 10 minute walk from the train station and a 15 minute walk if you go to a Dodgers game. Also, it is close to Olvera Street, the oldest part of Los Angeles with its Mexican marketplace. There are many good restaurant choices if you like Chinese food, and fresh fruit and produce vendors along the streets. Our room was surprisingly big and very clean; we had a king bed and a sitting area with a couch. The free breakfast was great, lots of choices for every taste and the coffee was excellent. The hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. We didn't have a car during our stay, so I don't know the parking situation, but I think they charge $10/day for parking. This place is a real gem and I would recommend it to anybody who looks for a decent hotel rate in LA in a charming neighborhood.

It was a pleasant experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Free breakfast is a real treat. It normally cost $30 for a couple in other hotels. We would highly recommend to our friends and relatives to stay at this hotel for musical and sporting events. You get your money's worth.

Hotel was clean. In the heart of Chinatown. I was shocked when they told me at check in that I would have to pay for the parking both days. When we were done at our event at the dodger stadium, after coming back to the hotel, we discovered that there was not one single business open anywhere that we could get something to drink or eat. Overall...good place for after an event at the dodger stadium.

This hotel was a nice surprise even though it is located in Chinatown. The neighborhood is safe. My room was very big, and the bathroom as well, I ended up staying in a handicap room, I had more space than I deserved. The AC worked well (it was very hot) and isolated the noise coming from the outside. The hotel was clean and organizes. The ladies from the front desk are the highlights of this hotel, they were very graceful, thoughtful and gave me excellent recommendations to have dinner and breakfast. I forgot the name of the restaurant I had my dinner, but remember the one I had my breakfast: Urth Caffe, you should give it a try. It is a must see (actually eat) and it is 10 min drive from the hotel.

Don t know about walking around in the dark anyway in LA after 9 pm but it doesn't bother us as we are looking for a decent hotel where druggies/panhandlers are absent around the corner. Room was adequate and breakfast was basic. If you want a decent meal, go to Sam Woo Chinese restaurant nearby for some yummylicious food. I would come back here on special rates and advance bookings. The metro is quite a few streets away but on late nights you get the fears of who or what is around the corner. If you can afford a bigger budget (+$40 more) you can go to Miyako hotel in Japantown or upmarket to Double Tree not too faraway from this hotel. Overall ok for a restful nite - clean n bug free!

Vegetarian sausage at breakfast!!! Parking was confusing-no attendant on duty when we came in, no signage, then we got yelled at for doing it wrong when we tried to leave. Otherwise everyone was great. Decor is nice- subtle individual touches that nod to history of Chinatown

We stayed at this hotel in March 2015 and although it was not the fanciest, we did not expect 5 star accommodation. The room was fine and the continental breakfast was good. However, when we returned from our holiday we had not realised that we had not been charged for the room, when we had fixed up our account at the end of our stay. It was not until July 2015 that our credit card was charged for our stay. What possible reason would you have to delay charges to our credit card for this period of time. Please note we sent an email on 24 of July requesting an explanation for this and it was never responded to. On a positive note you will be pretty close to Lucky Deli around the corner the best and cheapest asian food outlet in all of LA.
